- 0:17I'm Jessica and this is Pebaki Rambles, where a couple of
- 0:20friends review Korean dramas and we're back out of hiatus really
- 0:23fast. To do a review with two of my
- 0:27really good friends, I've got Sammy from Korean from contact
- 0:30slash BL Buddies podcast. Hey Sammy, what's up?
- 0:35And I have Liliana with me from Tian Soju podcast.
- 0:39How are you Liliana? I'm.
- 0:41Good. Thank you.
- 0:42How are you? I'm doing well, so we were just
- 0:45giggling before we got on this podcast talking about a whole
- 0:49other thing which is only for Love, the currently airing sea
- 0:53drama with Wong Hoodie and by Liliu.
- 0:59Yeah, so we'll just be. I'll just switch my.
- 1:01Brain. Yeah, I'll just be switching my
- 1:04brain. I've out switched.
- 1:06We've been, yeah. So we basically have to change
- 1:10gears here to talk about Duna. And the reason why we're doing
- 1:15this podcast is because Sammy really wanted to talk about
- 1:20Duna. And she was like, are you going
- 1:21to cover Duna? Have you watched it?
- 1:23And I was like, no, I hadn't. And then Liliana was also like
- 1:26I'll volunteers tribute to talk about Duno with you guys.
- 1:29So then this trio like came to be and I have not made it a
- 1:36secret about my feelings on Duna as I've been watching.
- 1:41It's taken me longer than usual to watch 9 episodes of a show,
- 1:47but we are finally here to talk about it, hash it out and just
- 1:51have a good time. So before we do, if this is your
- 1:54first time listening, thank you so much.

- 2:42So I'll just go ahead and give the Asian Wiki synopsis, go
- 2:45through the cast, which is not very extensive, and then we'll
- 2:48just like get into it. OK.
- 2:51Sounds good ladies. Yeah, I'm ready.
- 2:55I'm already laughing, OK, the Asian Wiki synopsis reads.
- 3:02Yi Duna was a member of an idol girl group.
- 3:04She was the main vocalist and the most popular member of the
- 3:07group, but she suddenly announced her retirement.
- 3:09She now stays at a shared house located near university and
- 3:12rarely goes out. Meanwhile, Yi Wanjun is a
- 3:15university student. He's warm hearted ordinary.
- 3:19The most fact that they call him ordinary.
- 3:21It's pretty funny. OK, warm hearted ordinary young
- 3:25man without anything special in his background.
- 3:28He begins to stay at the shared house where either not resides.
- 3:31His warm heart gives either not comfort.
- 3:33They get attracted to each other.
- 3:37That's basically it. So that's that's it.
- 3:41That's the story. That sums it up perfect.
- 3:44That's all nine episodes. Yeah, so it aired on October
- 3:4720th, 2023. So we are less than a month
- 3:50after its complete airing. All nine episodes dropped at the
- 3:54same time on Netflix. It is directed by actually a
- 3:57very like, prolific director. We have Yi Jung Kyo and he's
- 4:02directed. Romance is a bonus book.
- 4:04The Good Wife, My First Time, A Witch's Love, Heartless City In
- 4:08Need of Romance 2012. But most importantly, this man
- 4:11is directed Crash landing on you.
- 4:15That makes sense. That makes a lot of sense, but.
- 4:19One of my faves. Aha.
- 4:20Are you in like 50 million other?
- 4:24People I know, right? I know, so popular.
- 4:27So it was written by Minsong A, who also wrote the web comic
- 4:30that this is based on, which I believe is called The Girl
- 4:33Downstairs. And who is the Girl Downstairs?
- 4:38It is BAE Susie. She plays Duna.
- 4:41She's been in Anna, Startup Vagabond while you were sleeping
- 4:45uncontrollably fond goo family book Dream High.
- 4:48We've actually covered This is the 4th drama from Susie that
- 4:53we've covered on the podcast 'cause we did Dream High while
- 4:55you Were sleeping and startups. So there's episodes for each one
- 4:58of the shows in the back catalog.
- 5:02How do you guys feel about her? How do you guys feel about
- 5:04Susie? I think A big, like breath.
- 5:11Before because like I will say she's a very, like, divisive
- 5:16actress. Like lots of people really love
- 5:18her When they really, really love her, Like they are very
- 5:21vocal about it. That's great.
- 5:26I think she's improved from earlier dramas.
- 5:32I mean, she's not necessarily an actress that I'm like, Oh my
- 5:34God, it's Susie. I need to check that drama out,
- 5:37if that makes sense. But I will say I have seen quite
- 5:40a few dramas of hers. I saw, you know, while we were
- 5:43sleeping and I saw start up and I feel like she has slowly been
- 5:47improving on her acting. So yeah, that's all I that's my
- 5:51two sides. I think I.
- 5:53Think I have to. I have to agree.
- 5:54I mean, I did. I think while we were sleeping
- 5:57was probably the first one I saw her in and.
- 6:01I I enjoyed her, but I wasn't like, Oh my God, like you said,
- 6:06I'm going to follow her everything she comes out with
- 6:09kind of thing. But I yeah, I agree that she's
- 6:11gotten better in her acting. This character in and of itself
- 6:15was kind of like bland. So I didn't feel like she needed
- 6:20to act a lot. Yes.
- 6:27So I've my thoughts on Susie are so well documented because we've
- 6:31done 3 episodes now on a show at first.
- 6:34But yeah, she's improved over time.
- 6:37But I personally can't get over like, it's Susie, right?
- 6:42I'm never lost. And like, Oh my God, I didn't
- 6:46even realize that that was Susie.
- 6:47She was like totally different character.
- 6:49I was so immersed in her performance.
- 6:51Never, never, never. I'm always like, oh look, it's
- 6:54Susie. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:58I'm never bamboozled, never hoodwinked into whatever role
- 7:04that she's playing. And I think her best.
- 7:08I think her best show is start up.
- 7:09To be quite honest, I thought I had problems with while you were
- 7:12sleeping and it was more plot than her in particular.
- 7:15And then dream high. Like if you go back and listen
- 7:17to that episode, we really ranked on her and her
- 7:21performance. It was just terrible.
- 7:22That was the first thing she was ever in.
- 7:23That was 2010. It's now been 13 years, and I'm
- 7:28still a little bit like, where's the, you know, people improve
- 7:32for less, People improve, project to project.
- 7:36And I feel like it's just marginal for her in this role.
- 7:40She's playing almost like a facsimile of herself because she
- 7:45used to be AK Pop Idol. So she is a former K Pop Idol.
- 7:51She knows how to sing and dance. She was trained and JYP which is
- 7:55a whole nother thing but. Yeah, you know, this feels like,
- 8:00I don't know if you guys saw that movie.
- 8:01Marry me with Jlo. Oh, and Owen Conagh?
- 8:07Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I think I.
- 8:09Have Wilson, Owen, Wilson. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:12Where Jlo's playing an aging pop star with a very similar
- 8:18aesthetic to her own Jlo career in real life.
- 8:22And she was dealing with a lot of the same issues that she
- 8:26deals with in her regular life. So it felt very on brand.
- 8:30And she, Jlo excelled in that role because it was playing off
- 8:34of the own. Her own.
- 8:37Yeah. So this show could have done the
- 8:41same. I think it could have been like,
- 8:43Oh my God, like this is so revelatory and all this stuff.
- 8:46And wow, she really understands like the concept and it's so
- 8:50meta and whatever else. No, I didn't necessarily.
- 8:55Feel like that. But she plays opposite Yang
- 8:59Sejong who plays one June, the student that gets a They have an
- 9:03attraction and he's been in a lot of stuff like doctor,
- 9:07romantic, dual temperature of love, still 17 in my country,
- 9:10the new Age. How do you guys feel about this
- 9:13guy? Have you seen him in a lot of
- 9:14stuff? I think I've watched him in a
- 9:18couple of things. I watched him in Temperature of
- 9:21Love and Doctor Romantic and still 17 as well.
- 9:25I think still 17 is probably one of his best roles to date.
- 9:29That is a really, really, really good drama.
- 9:33But then again, his leading lady leaves for no question in that
- 9:37one. So yeah, I I don't know.
- 9:43Like he's OK again. I've enjoyed his role so far,
- 9:47but it's not like somebody that, you know, I'm chasing after
- 9:51every every, you know, for every, every drama that he does,
- 9:57right? This was actually my first time
- 9:59watching a drama with him in it, OK?
- 10:02And I really enjoyed him. I thought he was.
- 10:05I like how they kind of described him as plain.
- 10:08And, you know, I don't know, I guess I kind of liked that
- 10:11aspect about him. Because, yeah, he wasn't.
- 10:14He was like, I think it made it slightly more believable.
- 10:17It wasn't this like stunning man, you know, just all of a
- 10:21sudden being a college kid, it was just an an average guy.
- 10:25He's very handsome, average guy, but just just an average guy.
- 10:29So I did, I did like him and I thought he definitely acted a
- 10:34lot better than Susie did. I I I connected more to him.
- 10:41I felt his feelings. More than hers.
- 10:45So yeah, I think that I, I did like him and I probably would go
- 10:48back, 'cause I I do know that temperature of love.
- 10:51I've seen like bits and pieces of it, and it looked really
- 10:53good. So I might, like, go back, yeah.
- 10:56So I might go back and watch some of his stuff.
- 11:01Yeah. I also watched my country, The
- 11:03New Age. I didn't finish it because.
- 11:05And you should watch it. Oh my God, Sam, 'cause it has
- 11:08who? The one in it.
- 11:09Yes. Oh wait, that is he the the
- 11:11opposite lead. Oh my God, I didn't even.
- 11:15OK, I do know him then. I've seen, I've seen bits and
- 11:17pieces. Then I do know him.
- 11:19I didn't even realize that was him.
- 11:22Yeah. Oh wow.
- 11:23It's like a long haired, wusha type hero.
- 11:27So definitely give that a shot. It was just kind of like super
- 11:30heavy. And it was, I don't know, like I
- 11:33just wasn't feeling it. So maybe I should go back and
- 11:35watch it, 'cause I dropped it like at episode like 8 or
- 11:38something and it was a 20 episode show with like hour long
- 11:42episode 20. Episode shows are killing me
- 11:44now, man, girl, tell me about it.
- 11:47So. That being said.
- 11:50Minus the Chinese dramas that go from 50 plus, you know, like.
- 11:54I was about to. Say a drama realm.
- 11:58Yeah, I I I think also it's because when it comes to K
- 12:02dramas, it's so rare for it to be an hour or less.
- 12:06It's like an hour 10. Some of them are pushing an hour
- 12:0820 an hour and a half. And I'm just like I can't do
- 12:10this. Like I need it to be at maximum
- 12:14do an hour. I can do with, you know I can
- 12:16deal with that an hour is OK. Even though like my sweet spot
- 12:20for an episode is like 40 to 45 minutes but I know K dramas
- 12:23don't do that. So an hour.
- 12:25But no they they just love pushing it to like an hour 10 an
- 12:28hour 20 or you know do a hospital playlist and do like
- 12:33almost two hours per episode And I'm like, I can't.
- 12:35I can't the. Movie is calm down.
- 12:39It's insane. So I dropped a Spaniard show one
- 12:41time and it was such a good show, but each episode was
- 12:44almost two hours long and I was like, I can't sit here for two
- 12:47hours and watch one. It's.
- 12:50Wild my my my partner watched for some reason got hooked on
- 12:55this like Turkish show and it's like 52 episodes, 2 1/2 hours
- 13:01each, 2 1/2 hours each, 50 plus episodes and he watched the
- 13:05whole thing and I'm like I don't understand it's that is that is
- 13:09that is commitment. Yeah, I've only watched one
- 13:12Turkish. This is such a side tango.
- 13:13But I've only watched one Turkish show and I couldn't
- 13:16finish it because it was so long.
- 13:17The episodes were so long, but I still remember the the leading
- 13:20lady. Her character's name was Fadi
- 13:22Day. Does that ring any bells for
- 13:25anybody? I can't remember what it's
- 13:26called for the life of me. Anyway, if you're listening and
- 13:29you know what Turkish drama I'm talking about, please, like hit
- 13:32me up and be like you watch this.
- 13:34Because I couldn't finish it. It was wonderful, but I couldn't
- 13:36finish it. OK, so anyway, what did you guys
- 13:41think about Duna? And I don't know.
- 13:42Who wants to go first? I will go last everyone.
- 13:46First, because I think I'm going to be like the middle ground
- 13:51here. Because I reckon Sam loves this
- 13:55show. Jess doesn't necessarily like
- 13:57this show and I'm like the meh. It's like, you know I didn't
- 14:03particularly have that explosive feelings towards it either way.
- 14:09I was just like, you know, I I I will say I finished it because
- 14:13we were recording this because otherwise I would I would just
- 14:16be like I I don't I it's not there's nothing really grabbing
- 14:20me. But yeah, it's not like I was.
- 14:22Isn't that invested? Like it's literally you know
- 14:26that sound when you just go, you know, it's it's like it's middle
- 14:30ground, middle of the ground, so to speak.
- 14:33So yeah, that's my my thoughts on it.
- 14:36You're just kind of meh. Yeah, like I don't.
- 14:38I don't know why it I. We'll get into it into in the
- 14:43spoilers, because I feel like I'll probably spoil some things
- 14:47if I explain why that's my reaction.
- 14:49So without like spoilering anything I think like also I did
- 14:55binge this yesterday like I watched it all in one sitting.
- 15:00I I was very deliberate with my not.
- 15:05I didn't Fast forward, but I did put it on like a 1.75 speed.
- 15:10At one point I was just like I this is fine.
- 15:11They speak. Very slowly.
- 15:13So I can keep up with it. Like if I can keep up with
- 15:17Chinese dramas when they're going 10 miles an hour speaking,
- 15:21I I can deal with this one, which was like they, I feel like
- 15:25they deliberately spoke slowly, like throughout the drama.
- 15:28So I was like, you know, I can speed it up, It's fine.
- 15:32So yeah, that that's how I binge this whole thing yesterday.
- 15:36In one sitting. I don't know if it would have
- 15:39affected me if I had watched it like an episode a day or
- 15:43something like that, if it would have, if my feelings would have
- 15:46been slightly different. But yeah, that was my two cents
- 15:50on it. Like, I didn't think it was the
- 15:53worst thing I've ever watched. But it's by no means the best
- 15:57thing I've ever watched either. It's like a very middle of the
- 15:59ground. More towards the lower end
- 16:04rather than the. Higher end, yeah, the lower.
- 16:07End rather than the higher end. So, yeah.
- 16:10All right, Sammy, talk to me. Well, OK, I it's OK Where do I
- 16:17begin? Because I did.
- 16:19I really did enjoy it. But I understand why people
- 16:24don't. And I and I can almost agree on
- 16:28some points like. Actually a lot of points like.
- 16:31I agree with her. It wasn't this riveting, like,
- 16:35you know, amazing drama. But for some reason I feel like
- 16:39I just. I really something about it just
- 16:44like hit me. I don't know what it is because
- 16:47like I I completely understand why people didn't like it.
- 16:51But for me it it just like. I'm not going to spoil because I
- 16:58don't want to spoil like, she said.
- 17:00We'll wait for that. There was there was points where
- 17:02I was very angry and there was points where I was like, I hate
- 17:06this show and then I was like, but at the same time the reason
- 17:12I hate it is why I like it. So that's it's kind of like that
- 17:18that that feeling I would and I I would almost say I'm in that
- 17:22same middle range. As Liliana, but on the other
- 17:26side of I would recommend it. I did enjoy it, you know, I
- 17:30would like tell people to watch. It I I kept thinking, do you by
- 17:35any chance think because it's. I don't know how to phrase this,
- 17:40but because you write books that are kind of like almost in the
- 17:45same world, they're not the same by any chance, but you know.
- 17:50And then they would that affect or skew like your opinion of it
- 17:53do you think? It could have simply because I
- 17:56am writing AK Pop series right now that maybe I was like oh AK
- 18:03Pop Idol. I need all the inspiration and
- 18:06this is great and kind of thing. So maybe it could have skewed my
- 18:10my view. Yeah, I never thought of that.
- 18:14But yeah, that could be could be a reason.
- 18:17It's an interesting take, Liliana.
- 18:20I do not go ahead books and again like I've watched a lot of
- 18:26musical K dramas, as I said in the Dream High episode, and
- 18:32they're usually pretty pretty fun if nothing else.
- 18:35And I think I was expecting it to be a little more lively, I
- 18:42guess. And it wasn't.
- 18:43It was more of a quiet show. And there's nothing wrong with
- 18:48quiet shows. I love quiet shows.
- 18:49Like, I just talked recently about my liberation notes and I
- 18:54love that show. It's very quiet, introspective,
- 18:59probing. And the show duna is not that,
- 19:03even if it wants to be. So I think it was boring the
- 19:10most, the best, the worst crime I think is that it's boring to
- 19:13me and that nothing really happens.
- 19:15It's literally just episode upon episode of Susie outside chain
- 19:21smoking in near freezing temperatures and.
- 19:25Very little clothes, scantily clad, a lack of clothing,
- 19:31alarming lack of clothing. And then Yang Sejong just coming
- 19:35upon her and being riveted for some reason by this pop star out
- 19:41of her element. And I there's nothing to latch
- 19:46onto to me for either character because they don't really go
- 19:50into that much detail. Every bit of back story that you
- 19:54have for each character is told in these sort of flashbacks.
- 19:58And when I mean flashbacks, it's not like a big scene.
- 20:02It's literally flashes of story, like a little vignette here, a
- 20:07little thing here. Never a complete scene that
- 20:10gives you the full context. And so you just kind of have to
- 20:14make of it what you will and connect the dots.
- 20:18And in a nine episode show, you'd think this would be really
- 20:22tight. I was like they have space here
- 20:25to expound and actually tell us some of the story and get to the
- 20:29meat of the issues and either one of their traumas so to
- 20:34speak, or like what they're what they're kind of running away
- 20:37from. And I don't think they ever got
- 20:40there and it was just sort of implied.
- 20:43Why are we implying like just like this isn't a 16 episode
- 20:48show, this is a nine episode show.
- 20:50And why is there still empty space?
- 20:54I think also for me, there was a lot of like side characters that
- 20:58were not necessarily needed in the drama.
- 21:00I would have rather them have like focused completely on our
- 21:06main couple and their story. Because at the end of the day,
- 21:09without knowing where these characters come from, there's no
- 21:12way you're going to be able to connect them and like believe in
- 21:17their relationship and why they were kind of like so dependent
- 21:20on each other for that amount of time.
- 21:22Like you can see it, but it's not.
- 21:25Do you know it's not like hard set in stone if that makes
- 21:29sense. So I I thought there was a lot
- 21:31of time used elsewhere that wasn't necessarily needed and I
- 21:36don't, I was about to say I don't think I've, I don't watch
- 21:39a lot of like K pop based dramas.
- 21:42But for example there was one and I think it was either last
- 21:45year or the year before and it's called Le Coupe or something.
- 21:51Did you guys watch that one? No, I don't.
- 21:53Think so. This is another show and it's
- 21:55always. Nodding my head, no, no, no,
- 21:57it's I can't remember what it's called now, but that's I think
- 22:00it's something called lacoop or something and.
- 22:03That is what made me think about this drama is because that is
- 22:08about a failing girl group and they're about to be like
- 22:14disbanded and they say we are going to turn this around but
- 22:18after we hit a number one, we will still disband.
- 22:22And they did such a beautiful like pacing and that's a 12
- 22:26episode. So it's only like 3 more
- 22:28episodes than Duna and they touch on a lot of things that
- 22:33Duna touch. Pictures on.
- 22:34But they do it so beautifully and they do it like really
- 22:37nuanced and what not. So when I was watching this, I
- 22:42kept thinking this could be as good as that one, but it's not.
- 22:47So I in the back of my mind, I kept like thinking about that
- 22:50one. I'm going to have to look up the
- 22:52name of it. It's called Idol, the Coupe.
- 22:54Yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah, that's the one.
- 22:57It's a fairly like underrated K drama for me.
- 23:00I think. OK, but.
- 23:03It's basically it is set in the K pop world and like I said, it
- 23:07is about a girl group who is failing miserably called Cotton
- 23:11Candy. Yeah.
- 23:12And their company is about to like disband them.
- 23:15And there's a lot they talk about stalkers, they talk about,
- 23:19you know, sassangs. They talk about a lot of things
- 23:22from the industry that Doona kind of like touched on so
- 23:27quick. Yeah, it hints that so quickly.
- 23:29And yeah, I think that one did a better job.
- 23:33Handling like those storylines. So while I was watching this, I
- 23:36I will say I may be very biased because it kept me bringing back
- 23:40to that drama and thinking this could have been like, I know
- 23:44there's a way to do this better. They just didn't quite land it
- 23:49in Doona, I think. I agree.
- 23:51I think you know. I also agree with the whole
- 23:54There was characters that I don't think we're necessary, and
- 23:57if they were supposed to be necessary.
- 24:01That should have been made way more apparent in like the
- 24:05beginning. It was just kind of like they
- 24:07just kind of got kept getting thrown in randomly and you're
- 24:09like, wait, why did this person just come into the plot line and
- 24:13then just leave the plot line? And I I do get that.
- 24:17Yeah, the mom. Yeah, the mom.
- 24:19Yeah, I I even had that as a note that I said.
- 24:23I was like, why is she even here?
- 24:26Like you mentioned her, such a big name to Kim Sung Young.
- 24:29Exactly. You could have mentioned her,
- 24:32left it at she was a shitty parent, and then just never
- 24:37brought it. Like never.
- 24:39You know, expounded on that. But you brought her in to just
- 24:44already reaffirm that when that space, like you said, could have
- 24:47been filled with something else, like their relationship,
- 24:50figuring out whatever. Yeah, I think that this
- 24:54relationship, this couple, they just like the idea of each
- 24:58other. Yeah, and they never really got
- 25:01to know each other ever. They are a little bit toxic in
- 25:07my mind because they are very, very reliant on each other.
- 25:10She needs him to heal herself, if that makes sense.
- 25:14And he kind of needs her a little bit as well.
- 25:18And then you see the reversal towards the end where she's
- 25:21like. You know, I don't quite need you
- 25:23anymore, but I want you. And it's like, well, that should
- 25:26have been the case kind of like all along.
- 25:29Because if you're reliant on somebody else for that happiness
- 25:33and that that relationship is like doomed to to to fail in a
- 25:38sense like, I understand. I also think like one of the
- 25:42themes. And this is like my take away
- 25:44from, you know, the drama as a whole.
- 25:46I think one of the themes that they were trying to work on was
- 25:50like timing and how timing is so key in like relationships in
- 25:55general. Like when they first meet, she
- 25:58kind of needs them. It's like, you know, that's
- 26:01their timing to, you know, because she needs them.
- 26:04But later on, she doesn't anymore.
- 26:05Like that relationship just doesn't sit well anymore in the
- 26:09time in their lives that they are at that point.
- 26:14But but yeah, I I don't know. I don't know.
- 26:16I feel like this was slow and fast all at the same time.
- 26:20The pacing was off, especially the last three episodes.
- 26:24I was like, I this is ridiculous.
- 26:27I don't expect this out of AK drama.
- 26:29I you know, K dramas are known for.
- 26:33Being good. Like to me at least, like when I
- 26:35think of a K drama, I think of really good storytelling in
- 26:38general and by norm, not all the time, but by norm.
- 26:42They tend to have like, you know, good pacing and storyline
- 26:46and whatnot, and this just felt like a little bit all over the
- 26:49place. A little bit.
- 26:50I know a little bit. The first, Yeah, that's the one
- 26:54I was looking for. Like for the first six episodes
- 26:56we were telling one story, and then for the last three episodes
- 27:00we wanted to cram in everything. Yes.
- 27:03So we told 50 stories at the same time.
- 27:06And I'm like, this is not good editing.
- 27:10This is not good storytelling like.
- 27:13I just, there's no need for it. There is no need for it.
- 27:16And like all of a sudden, everybody's story matters and we
- 27:20need to know what's happening to every character.
- 27:22And I'm like, we don't. We really don't like, we don't.
- 27:27So yeah, I have other thoughts, but I'm like, I I don't want to
- 27:30spoil. I don't know the spoil section.
- 27:32Yeah, I think that the pacing issues really stem from the
- 27:36writing, and it's written by the web comic Minsonga.
- 27:41And unfortunately you see this all the time.
- 27:44And like the West too is, you can't have if you don't.
- 27:47If you write books, you don't necessarily automatically know
- 27:51how to write a screenplay. And that's the case of, here's a
- 27:56great example, JK Rowling with the fantastic Beast series.
- 27:59That is a train wreck of ignoring all the controversy
- 28:03around JK Rowling. Those Fantastic Beasts movies
- 28:06are hot trash, and it's because she was the sole screenwriter on
- 28:12it. And.
- 28:14I never watched them, so I have no idea.
- 28:16Oh God. Well, I'm have been blessed to
- 28:19have watched all two of those movies and thank God they have
- 28:24totally done away with that franchise.
- 28:26They're not trying to make more movies because they're they just
- 28:28suck so bad. And it's the same for, jeez, no,
- 28:35this doesn't. This is, I was going to invoke
- 28:37George Lucas. I don't want to do that because
- 28:40what I mean is you need to have, you know an editor or somebody
- 28:45that's there telling you no or some kind of sounding board.
- 28:48And usually authors are just doing, you know, they have their
- 28:53own outline. They have things they want to
- 28:56accomplish. They have characters that are
- 28:57their favourites and they write to that and then when it goes to
- 29:00a publisher, they edit it. Yeah, but for screenplays,
- 29:05there's no screenplay. Like, there's no hierarchy in a
- 29:08screenplay, right? It's however it is like it's all
- 29:12loosey, goosey. They might bring in someone
- 29:13later to jazz it up and change, make some changes and it go
- 29:17through multiple hands. But at the end of the day, it's
- 29:20all case by case, and her being the slow screenwriter on this
- 29:26makes me think they were like, oh, we'd love your webtoon,
- 29:29we're going to adapt it into a show.
- 29:32Why don't you write the screenplay?
- 29:33And there was like nobody else saying.
- 29:37Hey, this is not a good idea. Paced like she started.
- 29:41I felt like it was almost like she started writing it.
- 29:45She was like, oh, I can get through this, you know, blah
- 29:47blah, blah the like. The pacing was good for six
- 29:50episodes good. And to me, well, the pacing was
- 29:55good. And then all of a sudden, like
- 29:57you said, they rushed all these characters and they rushed all
- 30:00these plot lines in that if they had been built up throughout
- 30:05those first six episodes, it wouldn't have felt rushed.
- 30:07So I almost was like she was writing these six episodes and
- 30:09went, oh crap, I only have three left, OK, just put everything
- 30:12else in here. I'm not going to focus on, just
- 30:14get it all in. Like I got to fix it all the
- 30:16characters and blah, blah, blah. So yeah, it felt like a dream as
- 30:20well. Like, I don't know why the whole
- 30:21show feels like a dream sequence.
- 30:23Yeah, it doesn't feel. I think, again, I think that's
- 30:25the way it was filmed. I think that's the way it was.
- 30:27Shy. Yeah.
- 30:29Yeah. OK.
- 30:30So I don't have really have that many other things to say other
- 30:33than like, I was very displeased by this show.
- 30:35I probably would have dropped it had I not been like been boozled
- 30:39into doing this episode. So I I want to thank you guys
- 30:44for, you know, watching this show with me.
- 30:47I think Liliana was the only other person on here that was
- 30:49like, I would have dropped it. I would have.
- 30:53We have integrity people. We watched the whole.
- 30:56Thing I didn't even watch it on a faster speed I.
- 30:58Oh, I did regular speed and I was very distraught because.
- 31:04And then the other thing was I didn't think that they had
- 31:06chemistry. Did you guys feel like this?
- 31:09This couple had tremendous amount of chemistry and it was
- 31:11worth. It I watched.
- 31:13I for me, I don't think it's necessarily a, again, actor,
- 31:19actress problem. In this case it stems from the
- 31:22writing I think because I am a firm believer in to, you know, a
- 31:27good actor and a good actress can't make a script good it.
- 31:31There's just no way they can. And I feel like because to that
- 31:36point we haven't really seen them build the relationship or
- 31:40anything like that. Their story hasn't been told
- 31:44well for me personally. I wasn't really that invested.
- 31:47And if I'm not invested they can have like the best on screen
- 31:51chemistry. It's probably not going to work
- 31:53for me because I'm like, you know, I'm not invested in this.
- 31:57Like it's not. OK, so I think they were OK.
- 32:02But again, that I feel like that's just my impression for
- 32:05the whole thing. It's just like it was OK, but
- 32:09it's not even like it was OK. It's not like that, you know,
- 32:12underwhelming. I feel like I was a little bit
- 32:15underwhelmed with their, their chemistry.
- 32:17So yeah. I I had moments where I liked
- 32:22their their chemistry was really good.
- 32:25And then? There were moments where I was
- 32:27like, are these two even in the same drama, Like, and and that's
- 32:32coming from someone who enjoys the show.
- 32:35But, like, it's true, 'cause there was just moments where I'm
- 32:38like, I do you two like each other.
- 32:40And then there was other moments where it was like, oh wow, like
- 32:44there's there's a connection here.
- 32:46So it was very. Yeah, touch and go.
- 32:51And again, like she said, I don't know if I can necessarily
- 32:54blame them and their acting, if it was the writing that, you
- 32:58know, kind of steered them in that direction.
- 33:00Right? Right.
- 33:01I heard a crazy, bold claim on TikTok that this was some of the
- 33:05best kissing ever in a cave drama.
- 33:07Absolutely not. Listen, my, pardon my French
- 33:10book, get the. Fuck out of here.
- 33:13Listen, I love. I.
- 33:15Let's be real here. I will.
- 33:18Sometimes start K dramas because of a kiss I saw on Instagram or
- 33:23TikTok and I'm like, I need to know more about this and I will
- 33:28watch the entire show that while they had their moments,
- 33:32absolutely freaking not. Absolutely not.
- 33:37Forget whoever said that doesn't watch K dramas.
- 33:43Or they're like they're very young and don't understand.
- 33:48No. No.
- 33:50Like, I will say no no, because like, I literally started the K
- 33:55drama. Oh, revenge marriage something.
- 33:59Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Perfect revenge marriage.
- 34:01Yes, yes. And I'm like that is good
- 34:05chemistry. That is good build up.
- 34:07You know I I'm all down for that one and literally I've only seen
- 34:11three episodes and I'm like, I'm sold.
- 34:13Give me more right now. So you know that's like and
- 34:18that's that's like a muck Jung. So you know if if people are
- 34:22hooching and chooching about a Mac Jung and chemistry in a Mac
- 34:25Jung, you know it's going to be good.
- 34:27And like I I will say, I will also say in defence of this
- 34:32drama a little bit, I am watching really good dramas
- 34:37right now. So you can't.
- 34:39You can't. But but I do think it does
- 34:42affect me a little bit because I'm like.
- 34:45When when a drama, like when you're watching something that
- 34:49you're really, really enjoying, for me personally, it works that
- 34:52way. When you're watching something
- 34:53that you're really, really enjoying and then like, you swap
- 34:56to something that you're not enjoying as much.
- 34:59And it's like it almost like the flaws become even more obvious,
- 35:04if that makes sense. No, it makes 100% sense.
- 35:07Because you're like, no, no, no, Because you're like, but you've
- 35:09just watched this and this works really well.
- 35:12Like, why can't you make it work?
- 35:14So I feel like that, to me, was also the place that I was at as
- 35:18well, because I've been. Guys, I've been, I've, I've left
- 35:21the house Friday morning and then I've not left the house for
- 35:24three days because I've just been in my house watching
- 35:28dramas. It's been a great weekend.
- 35:30So I was like, this is getting, you know, ridiculous.
- 35:34So I feel like I was even getting more frustrated for the
- 35:37fact that I was like I could be watching anything else right now
- 35:41and living the time waster. Life and this is what I'm
- 35:45watching, so this is wasting my time, is what you're saying?
- 35:49Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, it was.
- 35:50It was OK. So Sammy, if you can just
- 35:54briefly just what pinpoint exactly what you loved about the
- 35:59show? I think you it actually it
- 36:03didn't have to do with the main two couple like the main couple.
- 36:08It actually had to do with the the one friend Jinju.
- 36:15The the girl, I don't want to spoil it.
- 36:19The second lead essentially I she was a character that I
- 36:24really fell in love with. And I, you know, I was kind of I
- 36:30was more interested in her story arc throughout the story.
- 36:35Yes, I I did enjoy the two main characters a little, but it was
- 36:40more I I ended up enjoying the side characters more.
- 36:45Than the main couple by the end. And I think there was a lot of
- 36:53lessons that you kind of learned but not fully learned through
- 36:57every single character. And I liked those lessons.
- 37:01I just wish that they were completed a little bit more.
- 37:04But I think I liked I I liked Jinju.
- 37:08She was probably my absolute favorite character.
- 37:10Did you like the second couple? I did love the second couple.
- 37:14I saw the 2nd couple. That's the second couple.
- 37:16Yeah, they were. Which, which, which, who, who
- 37:19who are? We Could so was like the workout
- 37:20guy. The workout guy and the
- 37:22Brazilian. Girl oh, Oh yeah, She and you
- 37:25know the living daylights out of me, but.
- 37:28She's very good. She was speaking Portuguese.
- 37:30Portuguese Yeah, that's right. When you know when.
- 37:34In the beginning when she was yelling at the at the
- 37:37ex-boyfriend. Because she's from Brazil, like
- 37:41she lived in Brazil. Oh.
- 37:43I'm going to have to have a look at that because I missed that.
- 37:46Completely. Well, to be fair, she was
- 37:48watching it at speed up speed because like the girl was
- 37:52intermixing Portuguese and Korean, so you might have not
- 37:54heard the Portuguese and only heard the Korean ending of
- 37:58things. Also there is there is like yes,
- 38:01Brazilian Portuguese is still considered Portuguese, but if
- 38:05you get down to the nitty gritty of it, it's very different to
- 38:08like mainland. Europe like the one that I.
- 38:11Like Spain and like Spanish and Spain and Spain.
- 38:14Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Very similar.
- 38:16But I completely miss this. I I will have to go back.
- 38:19That's why she was wearing, like, all the Brazil shirts.
- 38:23I caught the fact that she was like, coming from Brazil and
- 38:28whatnot. I caught all of that.
- 38:30But I did not like, catch the She's speaking Portuguese.
- 38:34That's really bad. Oh God, I'm going to get my
- 38:36Portuguese card revoked at this point.
- 38:41I thought you would for sure have an opinion on that.
- 38:43Yeah, yeah. All right.
- 38:45That's bugger. I'm gonna have to watch that and
- 38:47like, see how good it is or how bad it is.
- 38:51Yeah, I at first I didn't understand like why they were
- 38:54bringing her in, but I kind of liked her being brought in at
- 38:57this. I liked all those secondary
- 38:59characters. I just wish that they had
- 39:00brought them in in a more timely fashion, like they introduced
- 39:05the two roommates, the two guy roommates.
- 39:08Right off the bat, 'cause he gets to the thing and whatnot,
- 39:11but then you don't really see or hear them for like 4 more
- 39:15episodes and then they all of a sudden come back in.
- 39:18But I wanted to like grow with them.
- 39:21And that whole house share thing on, well, that was something
- 39:26that I saw online was that people were like, oh, I really
- 39:28like the female relationships in this show.
- 39:32What all 5 minutes of it that you got and I was like, what?
- 39:37I I liked it. I wish there was more of it.
- 39:40But yeah, I can't say that that I just.
- 39:43I think I liked the characters individually especially, like I
- 39:47said, especially Jinju. But yeah, I think that's that's
- 39:52why I liked the show. I liked there's there was things
- 39:55that I felt could have impacted more, but they did make an
- 39:59impact on me at least. Gotcha.
- 40:03Well, I think we have come to the end of our rope here in the
- 40:06non spoiler section, so I'm going to break for spoilers if
- 40:10you guys are OK with that. But before we do, what would you
- 40:13rate this show Out of Five's Hold you bottles?
- 40:17Why do I keep laughing? Because they're like it was.
- 40:19Because you hate it. I like it.
- 40:22Liliana's mid about it. OK oh, since I'm mid about it I
- 40:26I will go three like I really wish I would go more 2.5 but OK
- 40:332.52.5. I'd say I'd say like 42424.2 all
- 40:44right, so 2 bottles, that's really high.
- 40:49Look at Jessica. I was like 4.
- 40:52Should I go 39? Should I go 3.93 point nine OK
- 40:553393.9 All right 2 bottles 2.53 point 91.5.
- 41:02Wow, I'm shocked you even gave it.
- 41:04Yeah, I was like I I thought. She was going to go like point.
- 41:07I thought she was going to go point .2 bottles.
- 41:11A singular shot, 1 1/2, so 2 bottles.
- 41:19Because if I like the second couple.
- 41:21I thought the last episode was pretty good.
- 41:24All the things considered. I think maybe I was just happy
- 41:27it was over, but I was like, all right, we can move on.
- 41:33Let's just get into the spoilers like shit.
- 41:35So if you don't care about spoilers, keep listening.
- 41:37If you've watched the show, keep listening and we'll see you on
- 41:40the other side. You want to come in?
- 41:49All right. We're on the other side of
- 41:50spoilers, so I'm not sure where you guys want to start first.
- 41:53I'm totally open. I don't even know.
- 41:56I don't even know where to start, where to start.
- 42:02See, this is the thing, right? This right here says everything
- 42:06you need about this drama. It's the fact that whenever you
- 42:12do a review about a drama and you're dying to just jump in to
- 42:16spoilers, that shows that like, how excited you are.
- 42:20If you're like, I don't even know where to stop and not even
- 42:23go to weigh so. See, I know where I want to
- 42:27start, but that seems ridiculous.
- 42:29Yeah, you just go like it doesn't matter.
- 42:31Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 42:32I just agree on it. I want it to start at the end.
- 42:34OK, let's do it. Because I have a very strong
- 42:39love hate relationship with The End, simply because you know, so
- 42:47she goes back into her idol life.
- 42:49But why? Yeah.
- 42:51First of all, why oh why? She goes back?
- 42:53Wait, she I She goes back because she doesn't have the
- 42:56money to break the contract. Yeah, she can't get out of the
- 42:59contract. Yeah, can't get out of the
- 43:00contract, so they convince her to go back, but as a so she
- 43:04wears up and down that that's not why she went back.
- 43:07Yeah, but it is. It is, but it is.
- 43:09And and well, then she also says that she started singing again.
- 43:15They gloss over that song. I was like she.
- 43:18Started humming. She started humming, and I was.
- 43:21Like she was. Thinking she's humming,
- 43:22Congrats. And then all of a sudden she
- 43:24meets with one of her old group members and you know, the group
- 43:29member. I again, I liked these other
- 43:31characters because the group member goes, I know why you
- 43:35could like I believe you that you couldn't sing, because I
- 43:38feel that way too. And like I wish they expanded on
- 43:42that. You know, the stress of being an
- 43:44idol, like causing this, like panic and and you know, these
- 43:48kinds of things that just like could destroy their career.
- 43:51Simply dynamics. The group dynamics, the
- 43:55animosity that they seem to have.
- 43:56Towards each other and then you know that, and then that manager
- 44:00who's an absolute piece of. Garbage for her, and I thought
- 44:05there was something sexual going on between them and I.
- 44:09Would have been there. Definitely is because he kind of
- 44:12like almost. I don't I I'm gonna say he
- 44:15almost grooms her in a way. Like he almost grooms her
- 44:20because he approaches her when she's very, very young.
- 44:23And I will say this kind of speaks to something in K Pop in
- 44:27general that's happening in Korea right now.
- 44:30It's the fact that they are having.
- 44:32Literal kids debut and singing these over sexualized songs and
- 44:37you know, it's ridiculous. I I think there should be a set
- 44:42like. Age for you to be able to debut,
- 44:46but this is very much shown in here.
- 44:48She did not have a great childhood.
- 44:50She, you know, her childhood was garbage and he took complete
- 44:54advantage of that by approaching her and offering her this whole
- 44:58new life and saying I can give you this, I can, you know, make
- 45:02everything better and then specifically asked would be be a
- 45:06family. Yeah, And because that's what
- 45:08she said she was like. Yeah, because.
- 45:10That's what she wants, that's what she's been missing and then
- 45:13like. He abuses that.
- 45:14He really abuses that. And then he is playing on her
- 45:19feelings. He knows she has fallen for him,
- 45:22but it's not like the type of love where she's in love with
- 45:26him. She just like is so desperate to
- 45:29have a family and everything that like this guy that she sees
- 45:33as his savior, as a savior is like everything to her.
- 45:36Like he is so toxic to her. And I hate the fact that the
- 45:41drama kind of like. Made her go back into that world
- 45:46and but the the problem with that being is it's not that it
- 45:49made her go back into that world.
- 45:51It's that it made her go back into that world.
- 45:53And she was like I'm happy now and I'm like but what has really
- 45:57changed? You haven't shown me what has
- 46:00changed for you to be able to be happy.
- 46:02Like you can't have the male lead come in all of a sudden,
- 46:06he's fixed her and then like. Bye.
- 46:09Bye. I want nothing else to do with
- 46:11you. And now like I have my life and
- 46:13it's exactly the same life you had previously.
- 46:16And yet now you can sing. And yet now you can do all of
- 46:19these things and you are happy like I It makes no sense to me.
- 46:23I. Agree.
- 46:24I agree. I didn't understand why she.
- 46:26Here's the thing. She could have gone back to the
- 46:29art because she can sing. She's got it back again because
- 46:32he helped her. You know, overcome those issues
- 46:36she had, but not with that manager, the man who literally
- 46:41caused her to do like to be what she was, to do what she did to,
- 46:46you know, all of these issues. And then like when she walks out
- 46:49of the hospital after she like sprained her ankle and he
- 46:53literally just continuously gaslights her, saying it's all
- 46:57her fault. That they're in this predicament
- 47:00he has, it's not his in any which way.
- 47:02And it's like, excuse me Sir, for her to go back to him pissed
- 47:08me off because she could have easily.
- 47:10And then he said he wiped his hands of her.
- 47:13But then he all of a sudden is her manager again.
- 47:16And you know, in that same thing that I, there's a lot of things
- 47:19again. They were trying to tell us like
- 47:212 + 2 = 8 and I'm like what are? You talking about?
- 47:26So she goes back to being an idol, which, you know, I always
- 47:31kind of saw that was going to happen.
- 47:33I was hoping, like you said, it wasn't with this same toxic
- 47:39thing that like is around her. But what pissed me off was
- 47:43really the end where, you know, she sneaks out to go and see him
- 47:50and he basically says he's like. They're done.
- 47:54They're broken up and whatever. And so then she goes back to see
- 47:58him again and she and she like, you know, she has this argument
- 48:04where they throwback, they threw back words that he had said to
- 48:08her previously like tell me you're sorry, tell me you love
- 48:12me, you know, that kind of thing.
- 48:13So here I am thinking that they've made-up, they're going
- 48:18to work on this relationship because she even said.
- 48:22That after her contract, like or you know, they can wait a year
- 48:27and then the the world will be less angry about her dating
- 48:32somebody. So I was seeing all these things
- 48:34as hopeful lines of they were gonna have a happily ever after
- 48:38even with this world. And then to see them not have
- 48:42that pissed me off. Pissed me off because yes, you
- 48:48know me. You know me.
- 48:51I write romance. I watch romance.
- 48:53Romance ends with a happily ever after.
- 48:56So here I am watching this expecting that and I'm not
- 49:02freaking getting it. And if I could have accepted, it
- 49:06was not going to be a happily ever after if you didn't put
- 49:09romance in the title or in the in the little categories.
- 49:14So I found the ending completely open-ended.
- 49:18I didn't think it was a hard stop on their relationship.
- 49:21I just thought they were going to go maybe there's, I mean,
- 49:24they didn't even say, they didn't say that they were back
- 49:27together. They didn't say that they had
- 49:29rekindled their relationship. But because they hugged in the
- 49:32in his room, in his like, rented room or whatever, where they had
- 49:35that argument and she was like, say sorry, blah blah.
- 49:38I was like, OK, they've reconciled.
- 49:41So that's a good place to maybe rekindle their relationship.
- 49:46And even though they were in the same place at the same time,
- 49:47they didn't see each other or they passed by each other,
- 49:50whatever. And it seemed kind of negative.
- 49:51I saw it as, oh, they could definitely still get back
- 49:55together. This is just one day in their
- 50:00lives post reconciliation. And I thought it was more of
- 50:04like a positive ending. It was pot.
- 50:08I get it because it was. I agree it was open-ended.
- 50:13But I need the ending. I think I need it.
- 50:16I just. I want it.
- 50:18For me personally, it kind of like just shows that they're
- 50:22both going their separate ways. For a little bit because they
- 50:26need to learn who they are as people and to grow apart from
- 50:31each other independently because they were too what's the word
- 50:36I'm looking for yeah Co dependent on each other and they
- 50:38need to like walk away from that because that sort of
- 50:41relationship doesn't necessarily I personally don't think it
- 50:44would work. So I feel like they need that
- 50:48space and that time to and what I saw it as the ending was they
- 50:53that kind of like. Reconciliation of them, you
- 50:56know, first of all, I don't understand why she needed him to
- 51:00say sorry and why she needed him to say, you know, he regretted
- 51:04it because because no, like it was on her part.
- 51:09She kind of, like started to walk away.
- 51:12She ghosted him. So I don't understand.
- 51:15He tried that. That really.
- 51:19Eve me off like nobody's business because there is no
- 51:22need for that. She's in the wrong.
- 51:24Not him, like he tried, like he understood that this was
- 51:28something she had to do and he was being supportive of her.
- 51:31She was like, he was like, I miss you texting her.
- 51:34She nothing. Nothing.
- 51:36And like, they could have gone around to that.
- 51:39By being like she didn't have her phone on her, like her
- 51:42management, she said. She didn't have her phone.
- 51:45But it's like management did take her phone, but it's like
- 51:47she took her phone when they moved into that house.
- 51:49That's great, right? Fine, She took.
- 51:52She had no phone. But why the heck does he have to
- 51:54apologize then? Like, I don't understand it,
- 51:56that that whole scene is just, like, you know, ridiculous to
- 52:01me. But what I saw it as was them
- 52:05putting their past to rest. That's it.
- 52:08That's like, you know, done. And then moving forward, growing
- 52:12up independently. And then I feel like the door is
- 52:15left open for them to be able to rekindle.
- 52:18Now, do I believe that a relationship between them would
- 52:21work? I don't think I do, but that's
- 52:24another case of whether you know, their story just wasn't
- 52:28told well enough to me. I am not a person who needs like
- 52:32the happily ever after. I I don't if the story, if the
- 52:37story doesn't necessarily warrant it.
- 52:39I didn't think they would end up together right from the
- 52:42beginning. I didn't think they would.
- 52:44The story would be happy by the end.
- 52:46I really didn't because it didn't seem like that type of
- 52:48vibe and that type of drama to me.
- 52:51So I wasn't like that disappointed or even that, you
- 52:55know, shocked that they went the in that direction.
- 52:59And I was like I kind of saw this coming, like it feels like
- 53:02this is where they're gonna come from.
- 53:05So but yeah, that scene just really annoyed me because I was
- 53:09like, I don't understand why he's the one apologizing and.
- 53:13She needs to work on herself a lot more.
- 53:15Like she is broken and she is like messed up and she kind of
- 53:19like needs. And also it's like if she's gone
- 53:22back into that world, what's there to say for her to not fall
- 53:26into that, you know, space again?
- 53:28And it's like, why does he have to keep picking up the pieces?
- 53:31It's like it's not fair on his character when he's like trying
- 53:36to move on and to make something out of his life.
- 53:40So. So yeah, I do.
- 53:41You know what Hot take? I really, really wanted him to
- 53:44get back together with the Is it Ginger?
- 53:47The You want him with Ginger? Yeah, I feel like they could
- 53:51have worked out. I feel like after because like
- 53:54they. I feel like she like.
- 53:57I feel like she had the most growth as a character, 100%.
- 54:02It's ridiculous that a side. She's my favorite.
- 54:05Yeah, it's ridiculous to me that a side character grew so much
- 54:08and beautifully. Like, I loved her storyline.
- 54:11She went from this very sheltered, you know, all
- 54:13encompass, and she took herself out of that situation.
- 54:17It's like she didn't need a man. She didn't need any, but she
- 54:20kind of like took herself out of that situation.
- 54:23And yes, she was in a really bad place for her.
- 54:25A while. But once she's like, I love the
- 54:28fact that she's like, I like you and he says, I don't like you
- 54:31back. You know, we've missed that
- 54:32train and she's like, fine, but we can't be friends right now.
- 54:35I need to heal from this. So she walks away.
- 54:39She takes herself first, she walks away and when she's comes
- 54:43back, she has healed and she's become like this very like
- 54:47different person. She grew up.
- 54:49That's what I feel like she did. She grew up and the other
- 54:51characters like, especially our main couple, certainly did not.
- 54:55And that's probably what I'm seeing, especially our female
- 54:58lead. I feel like she's very stuck in
- 55:00that, I don't know, child, not child, but like the stage where
- 55:04the manager kind of picked her up, if that makes sense.
- 55:07So I. Almost wish.
- 55:09I almost wish they gave that character arc to Duna because
- 55:17that not necessarily because in a.
- 55:20In a way, it almost kind of is very similar.
- 55:23Where they had these not great father figures and you know,
- 55:31like you said, Jinju removed herself from that.
- 55:35She grew up and she became this amazing, you know, happy, full
- 55:41of life, person, well travelled, all this stuff that, you know, I
- 55:46wish that Duna had done. And I wish that's what I think
- 55:51it is. I think, you know, I wish Jinju
- 55:53was the main character, like if that was the main character's
- 55:56arc, I probably would have liked it more.
- 55:59I will say I think there were positives like you said, you
- 56:04know Duna and I can't remember his name our.
- 56:08Male lead. The male lead they they came
- 56:13into each other's lives. I feel at a time that they both
- 56:16needed each other and. They kind of helped each other,
- 56:21work on different things. Did it end up being slightly
- 56:25toxic? Absolutely.
- 56:26But I think, like with her, she taught him or showed him how to
- 56:30be how to cut loose on certain things.
- 56:34Like, OK, yeah, you can skip a class you, but you won't miss
- 56:36all this stuff. You can, you know, you can enjoy
- 56:39doing this. You can, you know, do all these
- 56:41things while still being that studious person he was.
- 56:44And then he kind of gave her this.
- 56:47He allowed her to be the child she couldn't be when she was a
- 56:50kid. Like when they were hitting the
- 56:53they were playing that Mallet game and you know playing I
- 56:56didn't see that at all. I saw that the Mallet game was
- 56:59just a more healthy way of of. Getting her anger out getting.
- 57:03Anger out versus just chain smoking.
- 57:05Of of course, yeah. It that's another aspect of it.
- 57:08But when they were like, you know, picking up the the toy,
- 57:10The Little Mermaid toy and stuff like that, I feel like he kind
- 57:14of gave her, like I said, the childhood.
- 57:16She didn't. So here's I'm going to jump in
- 57:20here and just say the thing that really irked me about Duna and
- 57:26one June was that Duna felt like a Manic Pixie Dream Girl.
- 57:33She just felt like someone who was reckless and loose and just
- 57:36flitted in and out of his life, and he was this uptight dude who
- 57:40needed to get out of his comfort zone.
- 57:43And for her, like you said, the lesson that she teaches them to,
- 57:46like, cut loose and not everything has to be so serious
- 57:49and he could skip class and whatever the hell.
- 57:51And that seemed like the more damaging thing to the show was
- 57:57that Duno was they did not spend that much time dissecting what
- 58:04the hell her trauma was. You just kind of had to like, be
- 58:07like, Oh yeah, she's just K Pop Idol, and she's just traumatized
- 58:10for the entire experience. The visual of her drowning on
- 58:14stage is supposed to somehow give.
- 58:18Us. The entire thing give us the
- 58:19entire story that Oh yeah, no wonder she lost the ability to
- 58:24to sing and how she just broke down on stage and couldn't
- 58:27continue the performance and left the group and like we're
- 58:31just supposed to inherently understand her issues and that
- 58:37is not the case at all. We can infer as much as we can
- 58:41based on like what we know about the industry and how toxic and
- 58:44and sort of predatory it is and how the manager treats her when
- 58:48he comes back into her life. But honestly, I'm missing a lot
- 58:52of connective tissue here, and it makes her seem like she is
- 58:56this Manic Pixie dream girl who's just there to help the
- 59:00male lead along in his life and his journey.
- 59:03And not help herself and not help herself.
- 59:06Like, where is her personality? How did she get to be here?
- 59:10Why is she stuck here in this house and can't leave?
- 59:13Like, she just made it seem like the manager dropped her off at
- 59:15this house with like, what? What do you mean he just dropped
- 59:19you off here? Like, what is your purpose?
- 59:21Like, do you feel like singing is truly the thing that you
- 59:24enjoy? Like, I We never got to that.
- 59:26Yeah. I feel like they did Her Story
- 59:29really, really dirty because I feel like.
- 59:33The writing, like I said, an actress can't make a script
- 59:37good. And if her story isn't there,
- 59:41like, I I don't know what they expected.
- 59:43Like they spent so much time. There's so many scenes, like
- 59:47Jess was saying, there was so many scenes where she was just
- 59:49outside chain smoking and I'm like, you could be telling me a
- 59:52story right now. I don't need to see her.
- 59:55Like, I get it, She smokes, whatever.
- 59:57Like I don't need to keep seeing it over and over and over again.
- 1:00:01I understand she's in a bad place.
- 1:00:03Tell me how she got to this bad place and then tell me how she's
- 1:00:07going to get it out of it. Like there's no, it's like all
- 1:00:10of a sudden she's OK. It's it happened within the span
- 1:00:14of like 5 minutes of drama where she suddenly couldn't sing And
- 1:00:19then now she sings and now she's on stage and now she's happy and
- 1:00:23now she's saying she's happy and I'm like no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 1:00:27I'm missing a whole chunk of drama right here, like in in her
- 1:00:31storyline. Like I just feel like the
- 1:00:34writing is a complete let down to all of the the drama as a
- 1:00:39whole and to me like I can, I can all my signal by directing a
- 1:00:45little bit acting you know. But bad writing, That's like
- 1:00:49what a drama stands like on if the writing is bad, then
- 1:00:53everything else is not going to be good.
- 1:00:55Like they can't make good scripts, you know?
- 1:00:59But I mean bad scripts. Good.
- 1:01:00And I feel like her character was done really, really dirty
- 1:01:03because again, they had the time. 9 episodes.
- 1:01:06Like, don't come at me saying, oh, they only had nine episodes.
- 1:01:109 episodes is plenty of time to tell a full story.
- 1:01:15Like you don't need that much. There was so much time spent on
- 1:01:20things that I don't need to like that scene that Jess was talking
- 1:01:24about, about her jumping into the water.
- 1:01:25We saw that scene like three or four times throughout the whole
- 1:01:29shot. And it still wasn't explained.
- 1:01:30I get it. Like, I get it.
- 1:01:32She's she's falling into a pool of water.
- 1:01:34Great, great. I have seen this scene, but what
- 1:01:37exactly? Happened to her on stage.
- 1:01:39Oh, what is? Fall off the stage, Yeah, and
- 1:01:41she collapsed. Like what is what happened
- 1:01:43actually? Yeah, they, I feel like they
- 1:01:45they. They would bring up things about
- 1:01:50her trauma, but then not real like you said, Not really dive
- 1:01:53into them to the point where we could understand her.
- 1:01:56Like when she got locked in the bathroom, she starts freaking
- 1:02:00out. OK why is she freaking out?
- 1:02:02Why is she? Why does she not like this?
- 1:02:04When the lights go out, she starts panicking.
- 1:02:06Why does she start panicking when she you know?
- 1:02:10You know, when she jumped off the stage to 'cause this whole
- 1:02:13thing to happen? Why did she do that?
- 1:02:16Like, they really never got into the nitty gritty of her
- 1:02:19character and why she, you know, feels these these ways.
- 1:02:23And like, even when she's like, oh, I have a stalker and he's
- 1:02:27literally watching us and like, points to him and you know,
- 1:02:31shaking, she's terrified. But then they just leave it.
- 1:02:34It's like, no, this girl should be dealing with this shit.
- 1:02:38And I think, I think what bothers me is, you know, as
- 1:02:42people who are seeing it from the outside, we know that mental
- 1:02:46health issues are a problem in the K pop world.
- 1:02:51And they tend to get swept under the rug, which is really
- 1:02:54unfortunate because these kids need that mental, you know, they
- 1:02:59need therapists, they need psychologists, they need these
- 1:03:01people. And I think this just kind of.
- 1:03:06Brought that to attention, but then didn't fix the problem.
- 1:03:09They didn't get her a therapist. They didn't get her a
- 1:03:12psychiatrist. They just said yeah, no, she's
- 1:03:14mentally unwell, OK. And you know, and you know
- 1:03:19what's frustrating about it? This is a Netflix production.
- 1:03:23They could have gone there. It's not an in house Korea
- 1:03:27production, it's a Netflix production.
- 1:03:29They can push a lot more on Netflix productions that they
- 1:03:34can on in house, like Korean productions.
- 1:03:37And I feel like they could have taken this to be a drama that
- 1:03:42can just kind of like show the other side, show the ugly side
- 1:03:46of it. And I suppose they don't want
- 1:03:50that because they don't want, you know, people to see that it
- 1:03:54can get really, really bad. But they could have been like,
- 1:03:59look, this is a problem. This is how we're going to fix
- 1:04:01it. And they could have been like
- 1:04:03this, could have been something. Yeah, they could have had him
- 1:04:07telling her she needed to go to therapy or when like.
- 1:04:11She did 100% she needed therapy like and it was just like why
- 1:04:16not get that therapy while you're literally stuck locked in
- 1:04:21this one little room? Or like if anything make him a
- 1:04:25psychology or major or whatever so that he could be the one
- 1:04:29analyzing her and like helping her in some way.
- 1:04:33It was just those kinds of things.
- 1:04:35I get it. I get why people don't like the
- 1:04:37show and I can't tell you why fully, why I loved this show so
- 1:04:41much. But like I did, and I think it
- 1:04:44again, I think it had to do with all those secondary characters,
- 1:04:47especially Jinju. I really loved her character
- 1:04:50development and I think I can see why they said, like some
- 1:04:53people said, they liked the whole girl friendship thing.
- 1:04:57Because I do. I did like how.
- 1:05:02Duna reacted with Jinju's father.
- 1:05:07Like, you know when he called and he's like you stupid bitch,
- 1:05:10you just think you can be out all night, blah blah blah.
- 1:05:12And she like realized what kind of situation she was in and
- 1:05:16like, befriended her to, like, help her out of that situation.
- 1:05:21I think it had its moments of being good, but I'm I also.
- 1:05:26Don't like how, oh, go, go ahead.
- 1:05:28No, I was just about to say, you know, related to that comment,
- 1:05:31if she can help somebody else out of that situation, why can't
- 1:05:34she help herself out of the situation?
- 1:05:37I know it's like look. You're right, right, right
- 1:05:41situation and you know, I did the.
- 1:05:44The manager who's telling her things about herself and telling
- 1:05:47the audience things about her. That I'm like, why can't we just
- 1:05:50figure this out on our own? Like they're not showing us,
- 1:05:53they're just telling us. Because in Episode 5, the
- 1:05:56manager goes, be careful when you're alone in a crowd.
- 1:05:58It's obvious your loneliness, your desperation to be loved, to
- 1:06:01try to compensate for never having it.
- 1:06:03You're afraid of losing people's interests.
- 1:06:05And I'm like, what the this astute like observation about
- 1:06:09her coming from the worst person?
- 1:06:11From the worst person in the show and he knows it and then
- 1:06:14doesn't fix it. It's like so toxic.
- 1:06:16And she doesn't. Like we're not told.
- 1:06:19And that's why I say he gaslit her.
- 1:06:21He blamed her for all of that, like all of those issues.
- 1:06:24When it was him who caused those those problems and her mindset
- 1:06:28of things. It was her.
- 1:06:29It was him. It was her mom and then the
- 1:06:34grandma. I was confused by that whole
- 1:06:38thing, the grandma, So that house that she was in, that she
- 1:06:42takes. 1122 It's her grandma's house because that's where she
- 1:06:48was staying when her mom left her.
- 1:06:50Yeah, I feel like, Oh, yes, sorry, it's just going back it
- 1:06:56just. Clicked.
- 1:06:57It's just like it was. So first of all, why didn't he
- 1:07:00just ship her off to that? Because there's red one there.
- 1:07:04She would literally be by herself.
- 1:07:06She wouldn't cause a single ruckus.
- 1:07:07She would not. She would just be in this house.
- 1:07:11Why the group house? Why the?
- 1:07:13Yeah, why the shared home? Like, what did he think that?
- 1:07:17And then like, on top of that, there was a hold on, there was
- 1:07:20another plot hole. And now I can't remember it, but
- 1:07:22it had to do with that. Like, there's so many plot
- 1:07:24holes. There's so many plot holes in
- 1:07:26this, oh the plot hole of them eating JA Jong Yun together.
- 1:07:32And it like leaking that you know she's having dinner or
- 1:07:36she's. Having Oh, right, right, right.
- 1:07:38There was a paparazzi. There and everyone's like, yeah,
- 1:07:40and everyone. They were photographed together.
- 1:07:42Yeah, everyone's hating on her for eating and you know, like
- 1:07:45having this life with a person and all this.
- 1:07:49They're hating, whatever. But then she goes to a club
- 1:07:52where we actively see someone recording her.
- 1:07:55Yeah, but nothing from that. Nothing comes of that.
- 1:07:59I'm sorry, You You're telling me that there's more people in a
- 1:08:03Jajang Mun Chinese restaurant at frigging midnight than at a
- 1:08:08club? Sharing what?
- 1:08:11What? The paparazzi like Angle just
- 1:08:15annoyed me? God.
- 1:08:17Why do I like this show? Can I question myself on I, I
- 1:08:21right, I like this show. The thing is that the more I
- 1:08:25talk about it, the more annoyed I get.
- 1:08:27Right. I think.
- 1:08:28I think I loved it because I hated it.
- 1:08:30Now I'm like feeling this, like maybe it wasn't a real love.
- 1:08:34It was just I love to hate it. I yeah, I, I, I and then she.
- 1:08:39She just. I didn't think she liked the
- 1:08:41guy. I didn't think she liked one
- 1:08:43June at all. She likes the idea of him.
- 1:08:46I like messing with him and like, 'cause, like, she, yeah, I
- 1:08:50think she liked the idea of him and like, she's really broken
- 1:08:57and damaged and I feel like she just likes playing around
- 1:09:00because that's what people have done to her.
- 1:09:02So that's how she kind of, like sees the world and does her
- 1:09:04thing, but that's no way to treat a person.
- 1:09:08Again, I This is why I keep saying I don't think they would
- 1:09:11have worked. I I think he deserves like,
- 1:09:14better than her in a sense. And again I think it is, it's it
- 1:09:19all like to me, it all stands to bad writing.
- 1:09:21This show was badly written and that has just like made it, you
- 1:09:26know? Again, I I would have not
- 1:09:30finished it unless we were recording this because I just
- 1:09:33don't like, you know, I just don't think of it as anything.
- 1:09:36There's so many potholes, like the relationship is not
- 1:09:41believable for a second, and I feel like there's a there's a,
- 1:09:47there's a line that separates loving somebody and being in
- 1:09:50love with somebody. Like she may have loved him but
- 1:09:54she wasn't in love with him. I don't think she knows what
- 1:09:57that is until she kind of, like works on herself and fixes her
- 1:10:03her problems. I wished, you know what?
- 1:10:05I wish this story would have gone down.
- 1:10:07The line of this shared house becomes like a really good
- 1:10:10fountain family and she kind of like fixes herself up and she
- 1:10:14launches herself back into her career with a different manager
- 1:10:18and like. That's what I was hoping.
- 1:10:19I would have loved that story. I would have eaten that up like
- 1:10:24nobody's business. And I get it.
- 1:10:26It's based on a webtoon and you know the story is already told
- 1:10:30in the webtoon. But again, that's not, you know,
- 1:10:35exactly the. 3rd house thing is really done well in so many
- 1:10:40other K dramas I don't understand.
- 1:10:42Why so many? Like I remember there was one
- 1:10:44that I really loved and I love the season One of it.
- 1:10:46Hello, my 20s. Oh yeah, I know that's true.
- 1:10:48I haven't watched it. But I do know.
- 1:10:50Talk about a girl power and like, female relationships in
- 1:10:54the shared house thing, I was like, Oh yeah, this is great.
- 1:10:56I love. Laughter.
- 1:10:57And Waikiki was another good one I like.
- 1:11:01There was one with Jisu who's been cancelled.
- 1:11:04Oh, my first first love. Yeah.
- 1:11:08That's a good. One, I was AGI was a G SU Stan
- 1:11:10so hard. I was oh, that hurt me.
- 1:11:14Yeah. My car was literally I I named
- 1:11:16my car when I first got it years ago, 'cause it was, I think
- 1:11:19cheer up had just come out, and I named my car G Pajoon, 'cause
- 1:11:23that was his character. And cheer up, So yeah.
- 1:11:27I'm very upset about the GC thing.
- 1:11:30My condolences. So anyway, what I'm trying to
- 1:11:33say is the shared house thing could have been something, but
- 1:11:36it wasn't. Agreed.
- 1:11:39That's why I said I liked all those characters they brought
- 1:11:41in, these characters that I I could see, like you said,
- 1:11:45building that family of, you know, people she never had, that
- 1:11:49she needed and you know. That she needed in her life to
- 1:11:53build. Like when the girls all moved
- 1:11:55in, I was excited about that. I'm like, this is great.
- 1:11:57They're gonna, you know, there's gonna be this big family kind of
- 1:12:02growth and then it kind of just instantly fell apart like they
- 1:12:06were living together and all of a sudden Ginger was like.
- 1:12:08I'm out. I can't, I can't live with, you
- 1:12:10know, one June. And like, I was like, wait,
- 1:12:12wait, wait, wait, What's happening?
- 1:12:14There was that scene with Duna and Jinju where she goes to her
- 1:12:20house because she can't get a hold of and like, see, that's
- 1:12:26that's what we. But even then she has like, this
- 1:12:28shoulder to cry on. And she could have opened up and
- 1:12:32she chooses not to. She like, she chooses not to.
- 1:12:35And I get it. It would have been awkward at
- 1:12:37that stage because, you know, she's crying over the guy that,
- 1:12:41you know, Ildri's kind of like trying to get over.
- 1:12:44But I really appreciated her character even while not doing
- 1:12:47the because she was like, I know why you're upset, but I'm going
- 1:12:53to focus on the fact that you need a friend right now rather
- 1:12:56than the fact of the why you're upset.
- 1:12:59And she's still offered that support.
- 1:13:00And I feel like, again, I feel like the drama is like Much Ado
- 1:13:05About Nothing. It's kind of like it's
- 1:13:07everything and it's nothing at the same time.
- 1:13:11And that that's like my description of it.
- 1:13:13It's kind of like, you know everything and nothing at the
- 1:13:16same time. And it could have been.
- 1:13:19It feels like they were trying to tell 3000 stories and nine
- 1:13:23episodes and they wasted 6 episodes of not doing pretty
- 1:13:27much nothing and then three episodes of we're going to do
- 1:13:30everything. So, you know, I I am very much A
- 1:13:35and I feel like that's something that's been happening lately
- 1:13:38where cage dramas try to be be a few different genres in 1K drama
- 1:13:43and it doesn't necessarily work. And this one, I feel like it's
- 1:13:47that it was trying to be a romance, drama and a mellow
- 1:13:50drama and you know, a bunch of genres in one thing.
- 1:13:55Yeah, exactly. And it's like pick one and be
- 1:13:58really good at that one. That's going to give you an even
- 1:14:01better chance at it, you know, at being successful rather than
- 1:14:05picking 345 and being subpart at all of them.
- 1:14:10So that's like, yeah. Going back to Jinju for a
- 1:14:13second, because you guys really seem to like her.
- 1:14:16I found her a little bit annoying because she was trying
- 1:14:18to make a relationship happen. Fuel a relationship with Wanju
- 1:14:25based on nostalgia and you can't do that.
- 1:14:30Like she was. Like we liked each other in the
- 1:14:32past, we had these great experiences.
- 1:14:34We grew up together. That was her sales pitch,
- 1:14:36basically. For the relationship And like,
- 1:14:41it's dead and buried basically. Yeah.
- 1:14:44But what I am in the beginning, yeah.
- 1:14:46I was going to say what I appreciate about that is yes,
- 1:14:49she did have that. But then she kind of like steps
- 1:14:52away from it, and I think she realizes that, yeah.
- 1:14:55And she's like, you know, after he's, he explains to her.
- 1:14:58Like, I don't like you in that way.
- 1:15:00That's not. I feel like she has the grace to
- 1:15:03sort of like step back and walk away from it and then like, I
- 1:15:06think in retros because, like, it's kind of like what they say.
- 1:15:09Retrospective is great for everything, isn't it?
- 1:15:12So I feel like at that point, once she kind of, like steps
- 1:15:14away, she realizes that and then she goes off and like, she does
- 1:15:18brilliant. Like she lives this, her best
- 1:15:20life out of all the characters. I feel like she had exactly.
- 1:15:24She had like an arc, you know, gross.
- 1:15:28And she was like, I'm taking myself out of this.
- 1:15:30I'm going to be doing being a me for a while and that's what she
- 1:15:34does, so I appreciate that. I like that she had that whole
- 1:15:38thing where she was presenting a a false facade.
- 1:15:41She was this rich girl with a really good life and she had a
- 1:15:43great family when in reality her dad was insane machismo.
- 1:15:47My God, so bad was. Abusing them.
- 1:15:51And I think I wanted to sit more in that, like that whole thing
- 1:15:56was very familiar to me. Like I said, I'm Hispanic and
- 1:15:59so. My best friend came from that
- 1:16:01background growing up and she came to live with us and
- 1:16:05everything to get out of that situation that she was in with
- 1:16:07her dad and the scene of like the dad cutting the sister's
- 1:16:12hair that. Was horrible.
- 1:16:13I was like, oh, that's too close to home.
- 1:16:15Like for me, I was like, oh, I got chills.
- 1:16:18And that's just like, again, a little vignette that they're
- 1:16:20throwing at us, a little flashback vignette versus a
- 1:16:23really deep connection that we're.
- 1:16:27Granted for Jinju, that character and it's, I think it's
- 1:16:31a problem, right? Like they gave her such an
- 1:16:33interesting story and she gets such a great arc and like you
- 1:16:40barely see her in the show. I think that's one of the major
- 1:16:43problems for me about this drama and it just doesn't apply to
- 1:16:46her. It applies to every single
- 1:16:48storyline. It's the fact that they try to
- 1:16:51tackle really big issues, whether that be an abusive
- 1:16:54father, an abusive manager, whether that be the background
- 1:16:58you come from and then they gloss over them.
- 1:17:01It feels disrespectful to people who you know are in those types
- 1:17:06of situations. It just feels, it doesn't sit
- 1:17:08well with personally, it doesn't sit well with me.
- 1:17:11The way they we just kind of like gloss over really big
- 1:17:16traumatic events and it's like okay, that's it, just showing
- 1:17:22you this, let's move on. That's kind of like the
- 1:17:24impression I got from a lot of these really big events.
- 1:17:27And I think that's, you know, apart from the bad writing.
- 1:17:31That's one of the things. And again, this stems from that
- 1:17:34bad writing. It's the fact that they gloss
- 1:17:37over really, really traumatic things.
- 1:17:39And it's not like it doesn't land well, like that.
- 1:17:44That to me is never going to land well, I don't think.
- 1:17:46Yeah. The second couple.
- 1:17:48So let's quickly go through the second couple.
- 1:17:51I love them. I thought they were the star of
- 1:17:52the show. By the end of the show, by
- 1:17:54episode like 6 or so, I was like.
- 1:17:56This is it. Like we can stay here with them
- 1:17:57and we don't need to go back to the 291 June because and I
- 1:18:00called them the jiu jitsu couple, yeah, that makes sense.
- 1:18:04Facts. Yeah, because he was sort of
- 1:18:07annoyed with her and she was like this, so bubbly and
- 1:18:10extroverted and loud, and he was very quiet.
- 1:18:14And it was the grumpy sunshine trope that I like love.
- 1:18:18Exactly. It was grumpy sunshine.
- 1:18:20I tend to love that trope, but for some reason it just didn't
- 1:18:23land for me. I don't know if by that point I
- 1:18:25was just so annoyed with again I benched the whole thing.
- 1:18:30So I don't know if by that point I was just so annoyed with the
- 1:18:33show that I was like, I this character is very loud, very
- 1:18:37chaotic, a very I, I, I. Didn't like her until they
- 1:18:42started pairing her up with with.
- 1:18:43Agreed, 100% agreed. She was very obnoxious.
- 1:18:48She was very rude, Like, and I'm like, are you just saying all
- 1:18:52foreigners are obnoxious and rude?
- 1:18:54Because I feel like every time they throw, you know, somebody
- 1:18:58not Korean or pretending not to be Korean into these things,
- 1:19:02they tend to be these like very kind of negative stereotypes.
- 1:19:05Wait, was she not meant to be Korean?
- 1:19:08No, she was. She was.
- 1:19:09She was Korean, but she moved to Brazil.
- 1:19:12So, like, I got that. OK.
- 1:19:14Yeah, yeah. OK.
- 1:19:14So she was like, I think when she gets kicked out of the
- 1:19:16school, like she gets kicked out of the door, she said she
- 1:19:19because I'm a foreigner and. Lost.
- 1:19:21So yeah, she. Was very don't even consider her
- 1:19:24Korean. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:19:26And so she's like very, you know, loud.
- 1:19:28And what I'm very loud. Like, I can't argue that that's
- 1:19:31some of us over here. I will say, I will say, I will
- 1:19:34say that does kind of now thinking about it, that does go
- 1:19:40with Brazilian culture and Portuguese culture in general.
- 1:19:44We tend to be very loud people. I'm Hispanic and Italian.
- 1:19:48I'm always loud. Like, we're loud by nature.
- 1:19:53People like, a lot of the time they'll question me.
- 1:19:55They'll be like, why are you arguing with your mom?
- 1:19:56I'm like, I'm not arguing with my mom.
- 1:19:58I'm like, I'm having a nice conversation.
- 1:20:00Like, I don't understand what you're talking about.
- 1:20:02It's because we tend to be very loud in general.
- 1:20:05I used to be called out in school constantly for how loud I
- 1:20:10was like, they would my parents, Oh yeah, yeah, my parents would
- 1:20:14be like, my mom would be called in.
- 1:20:15And she's like, she's a bit disruptive to the classroom,
- 1:20:18'cause she's so loud. And I'm like, I'm sorry, I can't
- 1:20:21tell. Because you don't even realize
- 1:20:23that's the volume you're talking about.
- 1:20:26So, so she. Was like that she they they
- 1:20:28built her a little different than the other characters
- 1:20:30getting. Pretty obnoxious because she's
- 1:20:34like not reading the room and she's like not not kind of
- 1:20:37considering other people. And that's that's fine up until
- 1:20:41like, they get to her and Jong UN.
- 1:20:44And what I liked about them was that they showed the moment that
- 1:20:47he fell for her. And I was like, oh, this is
- 1:20:51great because they're eating after like the jujitsu thing,
- 1:20:55and it doesn't even matter what they're talking about.
- 1:20:57But all of a sudden she starts eating.
- 1:20:58She's like, Oh my God, this is so the little happy doing the
- 1:21:02happy. And he is like, Oh my God, like
- 1:21:05you could see his like the heart eyes.
- 1:21:08Yeah, I love when? He asks.
- 1:21:10The the other roommate, like, what does it mean when, like,
- 1:21:14you feel this kind of way when somebody just, like, does this
- 1:21:17and he's like explaining it like, I thought that was so
- 1:21:21cute. I agree.
- 1:21:22I think they were the cutest couple.
- 1:21:24I loved them. Like their couple made more
- 1:21:28sense because. Again, they were the grumpy
- 1:21:31sunshine and they worked together to like make themselves
- 1:21:35like at the end when they like kind of Fast forward and they're
- 1:21:38living together and like, she comes out and she gives him a
- 1:21:41hug and they're all like so cutesy together and they are
- 1:21:44like. Oh, I loved it.
- 1:21:46I absolutely loved that. I thought it was so flipping
- 1:21:50cute. They are your very
- 1:21:52straightforward romance from com couple though, aren't they?
- 1:21:56So it I mean it they these couples tend to land in general
- 1:22:00because it's the true and tried formula of of romance I think.
- 1:22:06I did like the other housemate you did.
- 1:22:09Because I didn't like. Him he No, I didn't.
- 1:22:11OK, let me, let me rephrase this.
- 1:22:13I didn't like him in the like in that whole, like in the shared
- 1:22:18house. But I loved.
- 1:22:19Him in the future, where he's literally deciding
- 1:22:24heartbrokenness to sell women on how to get men.
- 1:22:28I thought that was absent. I was like that is.
- 1:22:31Perfect. That like they nailed that
- 1:22:33character. That was hilarious to me.
- 1:22:36I did enjoy that. This is what I mean.
- 1:22:38Like the friends are living in a comedy ROM com world.
- 1:22:42And then like the Wayne couple is like living in LA, You're.
- 1:22:47Right. You're so right.
- 1:22:49You're so right. It's like two different stories.
- 1:22:52It's two completely different stories.
- 1:22:55And also, I love the fact that our male lead is described as
- 1:23:00this very, like, ordinary, very plain guy, and yet everybody's
- 1:23:04in love with him. Can we just?
- 1:23:06Literally, right. Everybody's in love with him.
- 1:23:08Dude is in. All three women.
- 1:23:10All three women are in love with him at some point, so.
- 1:23:13Also like, what's there to like about him?
- 1:23:14Like, let me just let me just go for one June for a second
- 1:23:18because I'm confused about what is appealing about him other
- 1:23:22than he's hot and he's hot. Really don't like ordinary
- 1:23:26ordinary. He was like having conversations
- 1:23:27with people and I'm like. Where's the personality?
- 1:23:31Like land. Yeah, he's a bit, yeah.
- 1:23:34I think he's the type of character that is just like a
- 1:23:37people, people pleaser. So he'll just kind of like go,
- 1:23:40go along, you know? I saw some people like making
- 1:23:44reference that he's kind of like a golden retriever and I'm like,
- 1:23:47no, I don't think so. I don't.
- 1:23:49He was. I felt like he was socially
- 1:23:51stunted with women. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:23:52Because when he talked to his buddy, he was all like, he was
- 1:23:56very chatty. He could talk about anything,
- 1:23:58everything, whatever. But when it came to the women,
- 1:24:02he was very awkward and like, and it was maybe because he did,
- 1:24:06you know, he liked Jinju. So he was like, awkward about
- 1:24:09the fact that he had told her he liked her and she dipped on him
- 1:24:12like completely ghosted him kind of thing.
- 1:24:15That wasn't that was on her too. Yeah, no, that wasn't on her.
- 1:24:17And then I think with, I think with Duna it was more the whole.
- 1:24:23At first she was very standoffish to him and he didn't
- 1:24:25know why and he was like, OK, I'm just gonna like, who is
- 1:24:28this? Like she?
- 1:24:28Why does she hate me so much already not realizing that the
- 1:24:32hoodie he was wearing that his friend gave him was her group.
- 1:24:37First of all, how do you not know that as your best friend is
- 1:24:41the biggest fanboy of this? Group and he gives like he's an
- 1:24:43idiot. Logo on it.
- 1:24:45How is he in engineering or whatever for he's in?
- 1:24:49But yeah, so like, that was with him and with her.
- 1:24:52And then the other one, he just absolutely hated her.
- 1:24:56Simply because she was friendly, right?
- 1:24:59She wasn't. She was.
- 1:25:01I mean, she was a lot to handle. It was a lot, but she wasn't
- 1:25:05like that as a kid. She just wanted to be a friend
- 1:25:07as a kid. Well, yeah, but some people
- 1:25:09don't want to be friends. I'm like.
- 1:25:11I guess you keep pushing and keep pushing and keep pushing,
- 1:25:15like if you're imposing on somebody like like I.
- 1:25:19Mean I think it was well I think with their relationship it was
- 1:25:22more so the the the parents had started that and so she had this
- 1:25:27mindset of. I he's he's my future husband
- 1:25:31and whatnot, so maybe that's why she became so pushy, but yeah.
- 1:25:36OK, so let's talk about things that don't make sense, like
- 1:25:40every whole show. The what?
- 1:25:41Besides the whole show, I'm referring to their sex scene,
- 1:25:45which begin with oh, I'll take off my shirt.
- 1:25:49My wet. Shirt I can't.
- 1:25:50I can't. But I was like I.
- 1:25:54Was like homegrown. First of all, it's a crop.
- 1:25:55Top Second of all, it's loose fitting.
- 1:25:58Third of all, it's not like like athleisure that's like spandex
- 1:26:03and stuck to your body and that when it gets wet, OK, maybe you
- 1:26:05need a little help getting it off.
- 1:26:07I was like, how can she not take off her shirt?
- 1:26:10I was truly baffled by take Off My.
- 1:26:13Shirt, I will say, though they're they're kissing under
- 1:26:18the bridge. That was OK.
- 1:26:22I I don't know you guys which? 1 the.
- 1:26:27First one or when they're sneaking off.
- 1:26:31It's probably the first, I don't know the.
- 1:26:33First one, I think by the by the shared house still.
- 1:26:35Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:37I I will say though, I don't know how well this was at normal
- 1:26:41speed because I did not watch it at normal speed.
- 1:26:44And sometimes speed up kiss scenes work like a charm.
- 1:26:48They make them so much better. So I don't know, but at the
- 1:26:51speed that I was watching, that kiss scene worked pretty well.
- 1:26:56I I liked their kiss scenes. Their kiss scenes were great.
- 1:27:00Were they the best I've ever seen?
- 1:27:01Absolutely not. I did enjoy.
- 1:27:04I did enjoy the reverse countertop as I've called it and
- 1:27:10like. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:27:11The. One being pushed up to the
- 1:27:13countertop. I really liked that.
- 1:27:16I thought that was really like. I thought that was a good one I
- 1:27:20did like. Both under the bridge scenes,
- 1:27:24under the bridge kiss scenes where they were like sneaking
- 1:27:28off and he like pushes her into the into the wall and then I
- 1:27:32think she spins him and pushes him against.
- 1:27:34I liked, I liked their kissing scenes.
- 1:27:36I did enjoy their kissing. Scenes.
- 1:27:37It was all right to me. Yeah.
- 1:27:39It was OK. It was, yeah.
- 1:27:41OK, I saw it wasn't the best. I did like them though.
- 1:27:43I did like them. I just, yeah, I feel like I
- 1:27:47should change my rating of this. After after everything, after
- 1:27:52everything I've complained about like I can't, I can't validate
- 1:27:56MY39 based on jinju, you know. Do we have anything else that we
- 1:28:01want to talk about? Because I we can't sit here for
- 1:28:03another hour and just really bash on this.
- 1:28:06Show I know, I know. I don't think I have anything.
- 1:28:11You're good. Yeah, I'm good.
- 1:28:13Like I it's done. I'm, it's behind me.
- 1:28:16I don't intend on revisiting again.
- 1:28:19I'm going to go and go back to my only full love after this for
- 1:28:23some therapy. Fair enough.
- 1:28:26Fair enough. Anything else you wanted to add,
- 1:28:28Sam, about the show? No.
- 1:28:31I I honestly, I like after after doing this.
- 1:28:34I'm kind of like enraged by the show that I'm like, why did I
- 1:28:38like this? So much.
- 1:28:40There was also, like the two faced CEO of the company, the
- 1:28:44entertainment company. They were like the manager made
- 1:28:47it a point of saying I'm not the one that's suing you, it's the
- 1:28:49it's the president. Or.
- 1:28:51The CEO who's doing it. So then they finally show the
- 1:28:53CEO later when she's saying when Dunas like I'm going to come
- 1:28:56back and I'm going to be a soloist and all this stuff and
- 1:28:58the. CEO is super.
- 1:28:59Agreeable. Yeah.
- 1:29:01And she. Was like, yeah, that was
- 1:29:02confusing. I was like, wait, wait, wait, If
- 1:29:04this was, if this is how it could have been, why didn't you
- 1:29:07just do that? And she wouldn't have even had
- 1:29:09to leave and all this kind of stuff.
- 1:29:11I think for me as my last point, the thing that I'm most mad
- 1:29:15about this, it's the fact that the show had so much potential
- 1:29:19and they wasted it because that is also that is like a crime to
- 1:29:25waste like potential that yeah that's that's all my my
- 1:29:32thoughts. Can I tell you when I first saw,
- 1:29:35like, even the trailer or like those, you know, two second
- 1:29:39teasers? Oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:29:40Yeah, of this show. Can I tell you I thought it was
- 1:29:42a horror show because the font gave me horror vibes.
- 1:29:50Yeah, the Duna font. The Duna.
- 1:29:52Font is very like oh. What is is this a thriller?
- 1:29:56Is this like a psychological thriller?
- 1:29:57Like, I literally thought that and like all of these like, you
- 1:30:00know, little things that they would they would hint at, like,
- 1:30:04you know, her little hanging photo card.
- 1:30:06I'm like I I was waiting for blood to splatter on it.
- 1:30:09Like, I literally, when I first saw the ads for this, I was 100%
- 1:30:15convinced it was a horror show. You know what?
- 1:30:17I wouldn't put it past a Korean drama to do that.
- 1:30:21It makes a lot of sense. You know what?
- 1:30:22It would have been way more interesting as it would have
- 1:30:24idle horror. Yeah, that would have been cool.
- 1:30:27Like like there's a, you know she left the industry because
- 1:30:32there was some sort of a murder or something around that would.
- 1:30:36Have. Yeah.
- 1:30:36And she, like, had to stay safe from that stalker person.
- 1:30:41That would have been a good reason for like her, yeah.
- 1:30:45And it's another idol that's committing the murders, which is
- 1:30:48why the exactly. Look at this guys.
- 1:30:51We're writing our own. Look, just hire us already,
- 1:30:54yeah? We're available, oh.
- 1:30:57My God. All right, so that was our pitch
