- 0:06Speaker 1: Hey, welcome on in.
- 0:07Speaker 2: It's a winning week, Sainte Sway, so I actually got
- 0:09Speaker 2: a smile on my face for real.
- 0:11Speaker 1: I don't have to talk about how we lost or whatever. No,
- 0:13Speaker 1: how we won.
- 0:14Speaker 2: My dog Tyler Shuck put two of the end zone
- 0:17Speaker 2: by himself on the ground, feet working. My young Buck
- 0:20Speaker 2: Devin Neil scored his first touchdown in the NFL. Shout
- 0:23Speaker 2: out to the Saints beating the Buccaneers or Buck Cantiers.
- 0:26Speaker 2: It depends on how you look at it.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Either way. You know, I'm super excited.
- 0:30Speaker 2: You know that not only guys are here off the
- 0:32Speaker 2: edge the podcast with me, your host Cam Jordan, but
- 0:35Speaker 2: I got to introduce one of my guys that I've
- 0:38Speaker 2: known for quite a long time, inadvertently on the other
- 0:41Speaker 2: side of the league. You know that the NFL, then
- 0:44Speaker 2: there's the NBA. You know the talle as hell they
- 0:46Speaker 2: make all you know, they make great plays and their
- 0:48Speaker 2: own rights. But he even had a little touch, a
- 0:50Speaker 2: little stint with football. We'll get in that later, but
- 0:53Speaker 2: I'm talking about Michigan State alum.
- 0:55Speaker 1: You know it was spartan if you will.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Fourteenth season with the Golden State Warriors, time NBA champion
- 1:01Speaker 2: four time NBA All Star, one of the greatest picks
- 1:05Speaker 2: in the image of second round picks and NBA Draft,
- 1:07Speaker 2: one of the greatest.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Defenders that we're gonna talk about, and Dremond Green.
- 1:10Speaker 2: It's time for this week's Drive for Success Conversation, presented
- 1:13Speaker 2: by Toyota.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Let's go places, my guy.
- 1:18Speaker 3: What's up, my brother? How are you?
- 1:19Speaker 4: Man?
- 1:20Speaker 2: You know, just from a guy who who loves defense,
- 1:23Speaker 2: loves Washington defense being played.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I love I love the aggressive manner in which you
- 1:27Speaker 1: bring to the table.
- 1:28Speaker 2: You know, I say all basketball players are soft, but
- 1:31Speaker 2: I don't mean all of them. I mean the new
- 1:32Speaker 2: ones and I really mean, you know, like the ones
- 1:35Speaker 2: that don't have a defensive mindset like yourself.
- 1:37Speaker 1: We talked about this before.
- 1:39Speaker 3: I appreciate that, brother.
- 1:40Speaker 4: You know, I agree with you, like a lot of
- 1:42Speaker 4: basketball players are soft. That's just the reality. I think
- 1:46Speaker 4: the game has gotten a lot softer than it is.
- 1:50Speaker 4: And you know, I think the toughness that a lot
- 1:55Speaker 4: of guys used to bring to the NBA isn't really
- 1:57Speaker 4: accepted in the NBA anymore. So I I agree with you,
- 2:01Speaker 4: a lot of guys are soft. You're not wrong.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Yeah, Look, you know my My wife played ball over
- 2:06Speaker 2: in California, went to uh, you know, went to Marlborough
- 2:09Speaker 2: High School McDonald's all American back in the gap, back
- 2:11Speaker 2: in like two thousand.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Who lord, when we got out high school.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Two thousand, she was twenty twelve million in two thousand
- 2:16Speaker 2: and eight. Who yeah, yeah, way back way back then.
- 2:20Speaker 2: But you know, she talks about you know, her favorite
- 2:22Speaker 2: point guard was was Isaiah Thomas. So she talks about
- 2:24Speaker 2: the Detroit bad Boys all the time. So she's like, yeah,
- 2:26Speaker 2: the game soft woo the wool. It's always you know,
- 2:29Speaker 2: everybody old always wants to talk about how the game
- 2:31Speaker 2: used to be playing, like it's it for next game now.
- 2:34Speaker 3: And it's definitely it's definitely a for next game. Listen.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Like I said, I agree that the game is softer.
- 2:40Speaker 4: I do also think like there are some guys that
- 2:44Speaker 4: are more physical than the game allows, you know, but
- 2:47Speaker 4: the rules that say Isaiah Thomas or you know, older
- 2:51Speaker 4: guys played or that we're not allowed to play under
- 2:53Speaker 4: those same.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Rules though, you know, so it does piss me off
- 2:56Speaker 3: on some of those.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Guys going to be like yeah, they soft as hell,
- 2:59Speaker 4: and like the game soft as hell, like because we're
- 3:02Speaker 4: not in control of all of that, you know what
- 3:03Speaker 4: I'm saying, Like, yes, there's a group of soft guys,
- 3:06Speaker 4: but by the way, just so we're clear, there were
- 3:08Speaker 4: a group of soft guys that played in the league
- 3:10Speaker 4: back then as well, Like everybody wasn't tough that played
- 3:13Speaker 4: in the league in the nineties, you know. So there
- 3:16Speaker 4: is a group of guys that are soft, but there's
- 3:18Speaker 4: also a group of guys that are physical, that play
- 3:21Speaker 4: the game physical as well, And you're.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Not always allowed to play that way.
- 3:25Speaker 4: You're not allowed to do the things that they were
- 3:27Speaker 4: allowed to do back in the day.
- 3:29Speaker 3: So I think there's you know, there is some truth
- 3:31Speaker 3: to every statement, you.
- 3:33Speaker 4: Know, but I think a little bit of it is
- 3:36Speaker 4: pushed a little far because they try to make it
- 3:38Speaker 4: like one size fits all, and that's not the case.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Absolutely absolutely.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Look, you know, guys, guys looked at you know, ray
- 3:44Speaker 2: Lewis the way he would come down to smack a
- 3:46Speaker 2: receiver in the middle.
- 3:46Speaker 1: You can't do that anymore, you cannot. I used to
- 3:49Speaker 1: look at it gone, you know.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Safety safety Joey Brown aer over it at the Minnesota Vikings.
- 3:56Speaker 2: They called him the claw, like he was going by
- 3:58Speaker 2: and snagging you from your neck is not loud anymore.
- 4:02Speaker 2: You can't do that, Like I know, there's rules in
- 4:06Speaker 2: just the advantage of time.
- 4:07Speaker 4: It happens, absolutely, I think, you know, you can even
- 4:11Speaker 4: go like more recently, a cam Chancellor like Cam Chancellor
- 4:14Speaker 4: couldn't play INNFL today, He just wouldn't. He'd be suspended
- 4:19Speaker 4: every other week. No, you think of a Vantae perfect
- 4:22Speaker 4: who was suspended a lot even during.
- 4:24Speaker 1: His time, but he lay in heralded in the nineties.
- 4:28Speaker 4: Absolutely, but you look at when he played and even now,
- 4:32Speaker 4: like taking a step further to advantage played now, you know,
- 4:36Speaker 4: and he played well years ago.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, he's been kicked out two times over. They
- 4:41Speaker 2: were trying to kick it out while he was playing exactly.
- 4:44Speaker 3: So I think you know when you look at it.
- 4:45Speaker 4: But that's also like the sports were more violent then,
- 4:50Speaker 4: but they didn't make as much money as they do now,
- 4:52Speaker 4: you know, And so you look at taking some of
- 4:54Speaker 4: the violence out and what the revenue did. You know,
- 4:57Speaker 4: It all makes sense at the end of the day.
- 4:59Speaker 4: So we can on complaining to be like, oh man,
- 5:01Speaker 4: they call it too soft, you know, or yeah, you know,
- 5:03Speaker 4: on both on both sides of the NBA and NFL.
- 5:06Speaker 4: But at the end of the day, it's clearly has
- 5:09Speaker 4: some benefiting. I don't I'm not complaining about that. I
- 5:12Speaker 4: know you're not complaining about that. So it is give
- 5:15Speaker 4: and take with.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Everything, no doubt, no doubt.
- 5:18Speaker 2: So do you see the uh you saw the Chargers
- 5:21Speaker 2: uh Eagles game, you know, and the way it concluded.
- 5:24Speaker 1: You saw the just charge of squeak one out.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I said, okay, okay, you know, justin Herbert trying to
- 5:29Speaker 2: go celebrate with his with his with his teammates, trying
- 5:32Speaker 2: to be a team guy.
- 5:33Speaker 3: You know.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Laura Relative, who I think is a great, a great reporter,
- 5:36Speaker 2: comes up, Hey, you gotta get a second with Hey,
- 5:38Speaker 2: I'm trying to celebrate my teammates. Yeah, I hear you
- 5:40Speaker 2: come talk to me, you know. And then I thought
- 5:43Speaker 2: nothing of it. But I see, you know, social media
- 5:45Speaker 2: going on rampage, like you know what you play. You know,
- 5:48Speaker 2: somebody say, you know how much you make and you
- 5:50Speaker 2: have to you have to do these report, you know,
- 5:52Speaker 2: talk to the reporters. I'm like, in the moment, he's
- 5:54Speaker 2: trying to celebrate with his team. I see from both sides.
- 5:57Speaker 2: I don't know if you got to got a chance
- 5:58Speaker 2: to see that.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Yes, I did see it. I see it from both
- 6:01Speaker 3: sides as well.
- 6:02Speaker 4: You know, that goes back to like just talking about
- 6:04Speaker 4: the money of it, right, like the business of football,
- 6:07Speaker 4: the business of basketball. I was talking to a friend
- 6:09Speaker 4: of mine yesterday who plays overseas and he used to
- 6:12Speaker 4: play in the league, and he was just telling me,
- 6:16Speaker 4: like some of the complaints that he has over there,
- 6:19Speaker 4: you know, like we all shore our complaints with our boys, right,
- 6:21Speaker 4: and he was telling me like some of the complaints
- 6:24Speaker 4: that he has. And when he finished, I just said
- 6:27Speaker 4: to him, I said yeah. He was like, but all
- 6:30Speaker 4: in all them good, bro, Like it's great. And when
- 6:32Speaker 4: he finished, I said, yeah, the business of basketball, because
- 6:37Speaker 4: you know, you dealt with the business of basketball in
- 6:39Speaker 4: the NBA. You go overseas, you're gonna deal with the
- 6:42Speaker 4: business of basketball there too. It's not going away, you know.
- 6:44Speaker 4: And it was just kind of like my subtle reminder
- 6:47Speaker 4: for him of like, yeah, we played this game, but
- 6:50Speaker 4: don't forget.
- 6:51Speaker 3: About the business of basketball, you know.
- 6:52Speaker 4: So speaking the law, she's going to do her job,
- 6:55Speaker 4: which which like you said, she's a great at it.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Take nothing away from her.
- 7:00Speaker 4: And her job isn't really going to require her to
- 7:04Speaker 4: have any feel right, So she ain't, you know, She
- 7:06Speaker 4: just like, I gotta get this interview because that's my
- 7:09Speaker 4: job and that's what I'm required to do. Justin Herber
- 7:12Speaker 4: hand surgery a week ago, comes out, play through a
- 7:15Speaker 4: lead these guys getting crushed like he's been getting crushed
- 7:18Speaker 4: all year. Still leads these guys to victory. And that's
- 7:21Speaker 4: who we need to talk to. She's doing her job.
- 7:24Speaker 4: I can't be mad at her for doing her job.
- 7:26Speaker 4: But in that moment, he want to go. He want
- 7:30Speaker 4: to go celebrate with his teammates. Now here's what I
- 7:33Speaker 4: will say. He's probably a little pissed off in that
- 7:35Speaker 4: moment about something, right although they want, it's pissed off
- 7:39Speaker 4: about something that taking place in that game.
- 7:41Speaker 3: So I really don't feel like.
- 7:42Speaker 4: Talking to you right now. I'm gonna go over here
- 7:45Speaker 4: and talk. I'm gonna go over here and celebrate with
- 7:47Speaker 4: my teammates. I really don't feel like when she grabbed
- 7:49Speaker 4: I'm going to celebrate my teammates. Where I will give
- 7:52Speaker 4: Justin Herbert credit is he stopped. He did the end,
- 7:55Speaker 4: you know, and I can respect that. To your point,
- 7:59Speaker 4: I didn't think it was a very big deal either.
- 8:01Speaker 3: And then I saw people like, well, you know how
- 8:04Speaker 3: much money you making? How much?
- 8:05Speaker 4: And I'm just like, hmm, if all Justin Herbert wanted
- 8:08Speaker 4: to do his interviews, he don't make that money. So
- 8:12Speaker 4: miss me with the you know how much money you made?
- 8:15Speaker 4: You got to do that? No, no, no, what he
- 8:17Speaker 4: has to do is what he did. He has to
- 8:19Speaker 4: go win football games. And if he win football games,
- 8:22Speaker 4: he makes that money for being a quarterback.
- 8:24Speaker 3: He don't make that that type of money.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Tom Brady makes that type of money for talking about
- 8:30Speaker 4: the game. Just Herbert doesn't make that type of money
- 8:32Speaker 4: for talking about the game. So miss me with the
- 8:35Speaker 4: when people try to act like, oh man, you just
- 8:37Speaker 4: got to do this, and I don't have to do
- 8:38Speaker 4: anything but go play this game.
- 8:40Speaker 3: And as long as I play this game at a
- 8:42Speaker 3: very high level, even.
- 8:43Speaker 4: If I don't do the interviews Mark Shawn Lynch, they
- 8:46Speaker 4: still gonna pay me at a very high level.
- 8:48Speaker 3: So miss me with that.
- 8:49Speaker 2: I was.
- 8:51Speaker 1: What fills the seats is the talent involved.
- 8:53Speaker 2: You know, like Justin Herbert is a is a is
- 8:55Speaker 2: a headliner.
- 8:57Speaker 1: You know that there's nothing throws he made.
- 9:00Speaker 2: There's a reason why they won, you know, and that's
- 9:03Speaker 2: the reason why they want to interview him.
- 9:06Speaker 1: When you make big plays, you get big questions.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Exactly, they didn't go interview the third string quarterback. So again,
- 9:12Speaker 4: don't tell me it's it's responsibility and that's why he's paid.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Stop with that. That's not why he's fade.
- 9:18Speaker 2: It's not, no doubt. Look, that's that's I just wanted
- 9:22Speaker 2: to see if he was taking a spin. I was
- 9:23Speaker 2: just like you, you're on the podcast side. I'm on
- 9:25Speaker 2: this podcast side. I was like, I get both sides
- 9:27Speaker 2: of it, you know, like we can you know, we can,
- 9:30Speaker 2: we can pivot, you know, as pro pro athletes says dads,
- 9:32Speaker 2: you know, congratulations your fifth one coming up. Well, I'm
- 9:36Speaker 2: saying in advance, you know, whenever, whenever, Uh, as long
- 9:39Speaker 2: as as long as the baby's healthy. That's all we
- 9:41Speaker 2: really pressed for his dads.
- 9:43Speaker 3: That's it. That's it. Healthy baby, healthy mama. With the birth.
- 9:46Speaker 4: You know, everything goes smooth. You know, we get them
- 9:49Speaker 4: through it. Uh, but that's a little rough right now.
- 9:51Speaker 4: My grade's about to pop through this die and start
- 9:54Speaker 4: coming back.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Yeah, you know he's gonna put the die out there.
- 9:58Speaker 4: The Beijing Absolutely, it's not Beijing. But I did die
- 10:02Speaker 4: for sure. No, I you know, I am not ashamed
- 10:05Speaker 4: about it.
- 10:06Speaker 1: I'm not.
- 10:07Speaker 3: I'm not.
- 10:07Speaker 1: I'm not there yet. I'm not there.
- 10:08Speaker 2: I got I think I got a couple, but I'm like,
- 10:11Speaker 2: you know, I keep it normally. I keep it low anyways,
- 10:13Speaker 2: And what does when it does sticking out? It's just
- 10:15Speaker 2: a few, and I'm cool.
- 10:18Speaker 3: A few checked this out.
- 10:21Speaker 4: So this past summer, my wife and I great friends
- 10:24Speaker 4: with Taylor Rooks, and we goes to Taylor's wedding and
- 10:28Speaker 4: Taylor does this thing where the portraits and the black
- 10:32Speaker 4: and white, and so we go take the portrait and
- 10:38Speaker 4: we get the portrait, and I with my wife, I'm
- 10:41Speaker 4: like holding her like like this, like like the way
- 10:45Speaker 4: that she's like sitting on the stool and my arm
- 10:47Speaker 4: is like wrapped around the shoulder and I'm leaning in.
- 10:52Speaker 3: And man, my wife.
- 10:52Speaker 4: Looked gorgeous, like she looked like a beautiful young lady,
- 10:55Speaker 4: and I looked like her grandfather. I had like the
- 10:59Speaker 4: gray stuck out so crazy on the black and white portrait.
- 11:03Speaker 3: It was that day that I said, oh I'm done.
- 11:06Speaker 3: That's it.
- 11:06Speaker 4: Like I hit my barber bro. I was so anti
- 11:10Speaker 4: like all of the enhancement stuff.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Bro.
- 11:12Speaker 4: I used to go crazy at my barber. I'm like, bro, like,
- 11:15Speaker 4: don't spray up. I hit my barber. As soon as
- 11:19Speaker 4: he walked through walking the door. He walked on the door,
- 11:22Speaker 4: he started cutting my hair. I'm like, blince to die
- 11:24Speaker 4: like where. He's like, what what you talking about? I'm like,
- 11:26Speaker 4: blin is to die, Like it's time, bro. And he's
- 11:30Speaker 4: sitting there like.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Like like, what are you talking about?
- 11:33Speaker 3: Bro? Like like I need to die blaz. He's like,
- 11:36Speaker 3: what you coming on to the other side.
- 11:38Speaker 4: I'm like, yeah, bro, it's time. We door dashed to die.
- 11:42Speaker 4: And we've been rewinding it ever since.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Rewind time. You know, you just want to look good.
- 11:49Speaker 1: You just want.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Especially on the court, y'all ain't got no help. Macy
- 11:53Speaker 2: all hide nowhere, you camera here no more.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Man. They after you know, everybody saying I'm older than
- 11:59Speaker 3: what I am.
- 12:00Speaker 4: I'm like, nah, bro, I'm getting up there, but I'm
- 12:02Speaker 4: thirty five.
- 12:03Speaker 3: I can still go out, and so I'm like, nah,
- 12:04Speaker 3: I gotta go.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I gotta go. I mean, that is hilarious.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I just think with four kids, how much how much
- 12:13Speaker 2: locker room access do they get? Do they get the
- 12:14Speaker 2: whole you know, I got I got four kids, right,
- 12:17Speaker 2: you know, and my son gets come with me. You know,
- 12:19Speaker 2: my girls like, Dad, can I go to work? I
- 12:21Speaker 2: can't bring you to the locker room. Baby, I'm not
- 12:23Speaker 2: gonna lie to you. Guys, get guys, get undressed there.
- 12:25Speaker 2: I can't bring you.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Sorry.
- 12:27Speaker 2: I can bring you, know I can. I can bring
- 12:28Speaker 2: you to the to the field. I can bring you
- 12:31Speaker 2: to the game. Can't go to the locker room. So
- 12:33Speaker 2: as Saturday's I take my kid, my boy tomorrow, Davis,
- 12:36Speaker 2: he brings his kid. I make him run. They do
- 12:38Speaker 2: routes at this point, like last couple of weeks, you know,
- 12:41Speaker 2: they're like they're like, man, how hard are we going?
- 12:42Speaker 3: Now?
- 12:42Speaker 2: We're gonna go get in the morning before it starts up.
- 12:45Speaker 2: I get my little jog in with you. But like,
- 12:46Speaker 2: how much access do your kids get?
- 12:49Speaker 4: You know, Steve curR is incredible about family and so
- 12:53Speaker 4: like my kids, my wife, they can fly on our
- 12:58Speaker 4: team playing anytime they want, like whole trip, one flight.
- 13:05Speaker 4: Steve Kerr has been or is and has always been
- 13:09Speaker 4: amazing about that access any practice, any game.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Break them. You know, like my son comes in the
- 13:22Speaker 3: locker room.
- 13:23Speaker 4: My girls, they come down the stairs from the game
- 13:26Speaker 4: with us and they go to the court, you know,
- 13:28Speaker 4: Like they go off to the court and it's it's
- 13:31Speaker 4: like a full blong daycare, like like they're they're out
- 13:34Speaker 4: there running a month, you know, and and.
- 13:37Speaker 3: So they get access. I'm very grateful for that. My son.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Last week, I hadn't seen my son in a month.
- 13:45Speaker 4: With our with the way our schedules, the way our
- 13:48Speaker 4: schedule were, I hadn't seen him in a month, and
- 13:50Speaker 4: so we were home and I was going to be
- 13:54Speaker 4: able to see him for twenty four hours. He sat
- 13:55Speaker 4: on the bench with us that day, you know, like
- 13:57Speaker 4: and he gave a handed out time and stuff. Again,
- 14:01Speaker 4: like Steve curR is amazing when it comes to that stuff,
- 14:04Speaker 4: And that was so important to me just to spend
- 14:06Speaker 4: that time with him, Like even when I'm about.
- 14:07Speaker 3: To gain because i haven't seen him in a month
- 14:09Speaker 3: and I'm about to be gone in.
- 14:10Speaker 4: Twenty four and I got twenty four hours and I'm
- 14:13Speaker 4: about to be gone, you know. So I'm very grateful
- 14:17Speaker 4: in that aspect that our organization is great about that
- 14:20Speaker 4: you allow them to spend as much time as they
- 14:23Speaker 4: want to spend or we want to have them, So
- 14:25Speaker 4: I appreciate that side of.
- 14:26Speaker 1: It, no doubt. Have you introduced them to the coltels yet.
- 14:30Speaker 3: My son has been in the colt My girls have not.
- 14:34Speaker 3: But he's hopped in there and these kids. Crazy man,
- 14:37Speaker 3: He's like, oh yeah, oh he embraced it.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Hey, good for him. Bro, I don't believe in the Kolto.
- 14:45Speaker 2: But my son was having some growing pains, you know, like,
- 14:48Speaker 2: oh damn, my ship's hurt, my knees hurt. I said, hey, bro,
- 14:51Speaker 2: I know a way to get you right. And you
- 14:54Speaker 2: put them in to put them in the Kolto. My man, Dad,
- 14:57Speaker 2: what is this. We're not supposed to be here, going.
- 15:00Speaker 1: To goat up. I don't, I don't. I don't.
- 15:03Speaker 3: All these years, you're not in the Kolto.
- 15:05Speaker 2: No, sir, I believe in heat. I believe in heat. Restore,
- 15:09Speaker 2: restore me at my fullest. I'm from Arizona, with school California.
- 15:14Speaker 2: I've been in the South of the last fifteen I
- 15:16Speaker 2: deserve heat. If it's ninety degrees, I'm happy. If it's
- 15:19Speaker 2: sub seventy five, what are we doing? Oh my god, Hey,
- 15:23Speaker 2: I'm big.
- 15:24Speaker 3: I'm big. Hot tub.
- 15:25Speaker 1: I didn't even get to the hotel to year ten.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Look, right around twenty nine thirty, I started like, all right,
- 15:32Speaker 2: I gotta really start taking care of my body. I
- 15:34Speaker 2: really used to just flex it. I'm here for all
- 15:36Speaker 2: the smoke with none of the repercussions. And now I'm
- 15:39Speaker 2: in all the rehabs. I'm in all the prehabs.
- 15:43Speaker 3: I'm in the hotel every day, steamroom.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I mean, all of it, all of it.
- 15:48Speaker 2: But I mean, you know, as we get older, you know,
- 15:51Speaker 2: mortality catches up with all of this.
- 15:53Speaker 3: You know.
- 15:53Speaker 2: I used to be like I getting up, I get
- 15:55Speaker 2: in a hot to. I used to treat it like
- 15:56Speaker 2: people drinking coffee. Now I'm eventually gonna get there. I
- 15:58Speaker 2: was like, when I get old enough, i'mnn get hot tub.
- 16:00Speaker 2: I'm gonna give me some coffee too. I was like,
- 16:02Speaker 2: what do you do after that, some some zin.
- 16:05Speaker 1: I'm like what, I don't know. I might start taking
- 16:08Speaker 1: energy drinks.
- 16:08Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I don't know. I wake up and go get it.
- 16:13Speaker 3: After that, you get class, you go home.
- 16:15Speaker 1: You go home.
- 16:17Speaker 2: You know, God, look anything past some flower seats. I'm like, dang,
- 16:20Speaker 2: he's old. So like now now now I'm on the
- 16:23Speaker 2: other side in the hot tub, like, dang, I mean
- 16:25Speaker 2: these meanings, you know what I do need some flower seeds.
- 16:28Speaker 1: I gotta.
- 16:30Speaker 2: It's different anything anything past like what thirty in the league?
- 16:38Speaker 2: Is anything past thirty? I get the question, Hey, man,
- 16:41Speaker 2: so how many more years you're gonna play for the NBA?
- 16:44Speaker 1: You got y'all got a longer career.
- 16:45Speaker 2: But as you know, as you get, as you get
- 16:47Speaker 2: up there he is, year fourteen, thirty five, he starts up.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Hey, how much long are you gonna play? Is there
- 16:53Speaker 1: an answer?
- 16:55Speaker 4: You know? What's correctly? My boy asked me the other day.
- 16:58Speaker 4: We was in Cleveland, live in Ohio, and he was like, man, man,
- 17:03Speaker 4: it's been great. Bro, Like so dope, Bro, Like what's
- 17:07Speaker 4: naxt And the way he said it, I was like,
- 17:11Speaker 4: so I slowed him all little bit. I'm like, oh yeah, man,
- 17:13Speaker 4: you know, bro, I feel great, you know, competing at
- 17:17Speaker 4: a high level. You know what I'm saying.
- 17:19Speaker 3: He's like, yeah, bro, you don't have a great run. Man.
- 17:21Speaker 3: He started naming off stuff. He like, so what's next?
- 17:24Speaker 4: I started defending myself again, and like I'm going to
- 17:27Speaker 4: full defense mode now.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Because I'm like, all right, that's two times. He just
- 17:31Speaker 3: what's next? Me?
- 17:32Speaker 4: So I go on, I go to defending myself like, hey, bro,
- 17:34Speaker 4: I was third in defensive Player in the Year Voter
- 17:37Speaker 4: last year, first team All Defense at thirty five, Like
- 17:40Speaker 4: I'm still playing at a high level. I don't know
- 17:42Speaker 4: what's next year? Like you mean, what's next? Like I'm
- 17:45Speaker 4: still doing this and I'm doing that. I love, Like
- 17:47Speaker 4: I don't know, like you know, I'm gonna do some
- 17:49Speaker 4: TV stuff, but ain't no what's next.
- 17:51Speaker 3: I'm still so I got real defensive about it. I
- 17:54Speaker 3: had to take a step back like yo, you're all right, bro,
- 17:56Speaker 3: like you know and saying all of that. So then
- 18:00Speaker 3: I had to go there with him, like, no, bro,
- 18:02Speaker 3: I'm gonna go.
- 18:02Speaker 4: At least another three you know what I'm saying, two
- 18:04Speaker 4: three years at least, you know what I'm saying.
- 18:06Speaker 3: I'm at top of the DP on why I still
- 18:09Speaker 3: do this?
- 18:09Speaker 4: At least another three Like I said, so if if
- 18:12Speaker 4: my fault, if I'm there, even if I fall a
- 18:15Speaker 4: little bit, my fall is still out hot.
- 18:18Speaker 3: You know. So That's where I'm at with it. Broke
- 18:20Speaker 3: another two three? I love that.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Yeah, when were you getting mad about it? You through
- 18:23Speaker 2: you realize you know this passion there, this passion. I'm
- 18:26Speaker 2: not willing to give it up yet.
- 18:27Speaker 3: I'm not not yet.
- 18:28Speaker 4: Like I thought, if you asked me this two years ago,
- 18:30Speaker 4: I would have probably told you two years. Two years later,
- 18:33Speaker 4: I'm like, ah, like I'm still doing this at an
- 18:35Speaker 4: eligue level, and I still love to compete, Like I
- 18:39Speaker 4: still love going out there battling with these young guys,
- 18:42Speaker 4: you know, Like how went at it with Winby two
- 18:46Speaker 4: games in a row a few weeks ago, Like well, actual, yeah,
- 18:51Speaker 4: well yeah, well it was two games, so we stayed
- 18:53Speaker 4: in San Antonio, we played Wednesday Friday, and like just
- 18:59Speaker 4: like competing at that level with guys who's like he's
- 19:03Speaker 4: closer to my daughter's age and he's closer to my age,
- 19:05Speaker 4: you know, and like having those battles with young guys
- 19:09Speaker 4: to where you then got old guys who's long gone
- 19:13Speaker 4: talking about me battling a twenty one year.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Old and like, oh man, you know this, that and
- 19:20Speaker 3: the other the era you play.
- 19:22Speaker 4: But you're saying this twenty one year old is great, Right,
- 19:26Speaker 4: I'm thirty five and you're saying hum, but you're arguing that.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Oh man, you're doing this to him. These arguments ain't
- 19:34Speaker 3: really making sense.
- 19:35Speaker 4: To each other, you know, So I'm enjoying this still,
- 19:37Speaker 4: bro and competing at that level.
- 19:39Speaker 3: Is it's nothing to replace it?
- 19:41Speaker 4: Like I do the podcast, you know, I do the
- 19:44Speaker 4: TV stuff like it's all fun, it's all great, but
- 19:47Speaker 4: it's nothing like when you step out there on that
- 19:49Speaker 4: floor at seven o'clock and it's twenty thousand fans and
- 19:52Speaker 4: you know, everybody in case you walk in the arena and
- 19:54Speaker 4: everybody you dramon like it's nothing like that.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Come on, who needs coffee?
- 19:59Speaker 3: When I exactly like, it's nothing like that.
- 20:03Speaker 2: And you say that until you know and one day
- 20:06Speaker 2: when you do put it up, are you gonna look
- 20:08Speaker 2: at the game like, dang I should come back.
- 20:10Speaker 4: I'm sorry, can, but I have zero interest in playing
- 20:16Speaker 4: basketball at forty four, coming out of retirement at forty four.
- 20:20Speaker 3: What I do, what I do believe is.
- 20:25Speaker 4: I've given so much to this game, and I'm still
- 20:28Speaker 4: giving so much this game.
- 20:30Speaker 3: When I'm done, I won't have.
- 20:31Speaker 4: Nothing left, like like I won't have a YO in
- 20:35Speaker 4: three years. I'm no, I'm done, Like I've left it
- 20:40Speaker 4: all out there. I've seen guys over the years that
- 20:43Speaker 4: you know, they leave stuff in the tank and then
- 20:45Speaker 4: they're either going longer than they should be going, you know,
- 20:47Speaker 4: or always trying to come. It's because you didn't get
- 20:50Speaker 4: everything out of the tank that you need to get
- 20:52Speaker 4: out of the tank. I'm getting everything out to tank
- 20:55Speaker 4: that i need to get out of the tank when
- 20:56Speaker 4: I'm I'm done. Congrats to Philip, you know, if his
- 21:01Speaker 4: dream was to come back with the Indianapolis coach, more
- 21:04Speaker 4: power to him.
- 21:06Speaker 3: But I do not foresee that being the path for me.
- 21:09Speaker 3: I just when I'm done, they can have it.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Like I'm moving on, We'll be right back. You've played
- 21:17Speaker 2: your entire career with the Warriors. I played my entire
- 21:19Speaker 2: career with the Saints. Like there's the pride that you
- 21:22Speaker 2: have for playing with one team, you know. Like I've
- 21:25Speaker 2: never seen free agency. I've like, if I get close
- 21:27Speaker 2: to the end of a contract, I'm like, man, come on,
- 21:30Speaker 2: just update me to be I don't need to be
- 21:32Speaker 2: top dollar. I just want to be respected, you know.
- 21:34Speaker 2: And then that's like I've gone peer off respect dollars.
- 21:37Speaker 2: After I walked to the game, I said, oh, wow,
- 21:39Speaker 2: if I could get ten million dollars, And once I
- 21:41Speaker 2: passed that point, I said, man, I never have to
- 21:43Speaker 2: work again.
- 21:44Speaker 1: So now I'm playing for what I want.
- 21:46Speaker 2: I want the black and go to win the Super
- 21:47Speaker 2: Bowl I want and that's what I hunt for every
- 21:49Speaker 2: year and if it comes short, whatever, This might be
- 21:52Speaker 2: the first time I've like am entering free agency or
- 21:56Speaker 2: whatever that looks like at fifteen, completely different landscape than
- 21:59Speaker 2: it would be at entering free you know, a free
- 22:02Speaker 2: agency at year eight. But just the idea that you
- 22:05Speaker 2: could play for another team, does that do something for you?
- 22:09Speaker 3: Not really? No.
- 22:10Speaker 4: I over the course of my fourteen years, I've entered
- 22:14Speaker 4: free agency a couple of times. Once I was a
- 22:18Speaker 4: restricted free agent after my first three years, which I
- 22:21Speaker 4: never truly hit free agency like that, we got a
- 22:25Speaker 4: deal done in like day one restrictor freance here at
- 22:28Speaker 4: day two.
- 22:31Speaker 3: And then after this this current contract I'm on.
- 22:37Speaker 4: I was a free agent technically for a little but
- 22:43Speaker 4: so they changed the rules to where you can negotiate
- 22:46Speaker 4: with your team before you can negotiate with good team.
- 22:50Speaker 4: And so I was, you know, I was in free
- 22:54Speaker 4: agency and we were working on a deal right like
- 22:57Speaker 4: I was about the free agency, and we got a
- 22:58Speaker 4: deal done. So I've never really gone through the full ringroup,
- 23:02Speaker 4: you know, of what free ac is taking meets from
- 23:05Speaker 4: this team, meets from that team, you know, being towed.
- 23:07Speaker 3: But I've never gone through that, and I'm appreciative of it.
- 23:12Speaker 3: I've never really wanted to go play for another team.
- 23:16Speaker 4: I understood that in this business there would always be
- 23:18Speaker 4: the chance, you know, or you know, I'm not going
- 23:20Speaker 4: to be disrespected on my contract and just say, oh man,
- 23:24Speaker 4: I just want to play for this team, so you
- 23:26Speaker 4: can disrespect me. But to your point, I've never gone
- 23:29Speaker 4: for just absolute top dollar either, you know, where you know,
- 23:33Speaker 4: I could have waited six months and went for the
- 23:36Speaker 4: full total max. I've never done that. I've always just
- 23:38Speaker 4: done extensions. Uh you know, I've done extensions that helps
- 23:43Speaker 4: me financially, that helps the team financially, that allows us
- 23:46Speaker 4: to continue to build. But yeah, just like at this
- 23:50Speaker 4: point in my career, especially going to play for another team,
- 23:54Speaker 4: it's like, I don't want to do that at this point,
- 23:58Speaker 4: as I said, always going to want to respected for
- 24:00Speaker 4: what I bring, you know, and be at some sort
- 24:03Speaker 4: of level that of page that say yeah I'm respected
- 24:07Speaker 4: in that aspect, but they don't have to be the
- 24:09Speaker 4: absolute most I can make, like I'm doing all right.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Yeah, just respect me.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Just don't disrespect me, Like, just don't go out to
- 24:17Speaker 2: way and be like, hey, this is it.
- 24:18Speaker 3: This is it?
- 24:19Speaker 2: Not like you're forcing my hand to go somewhere or
- 24:22Speaker 2: you know, like in my mind, I've always I've always
- 24:24Speaker 2: gone through it. Like it's crazy. You think about some
- 24:26Speaker 2: of the greats of all times, right, and you see
- 24:28Speaker 2: him in another jersey. Right, you got Ricky Jackson, who's
- 24:31Speaker 2: with the New Orleans Saints for thirteen years, and then
- 24:33Speaker 2: you got two years with the.
- 24:34Speaker 1: San Francisco forty nine ers. I'll be it a championship year.
- 24:37Speaker 1: But it's like, dang does that so what.
- 24:40Speaker 2: It taints the New Orleans Ricky Jackson that I that
- 24:43Speaker 2: I think about, Like, I'm not think's Ricky Jackson.
- 24:45Speaker 1: I think New Orleans.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Then all of a sudden you put him in a
- 24:47Speaker 2: red and gold jersey. You know, you got Jerry Rice,
- 24:51Speaker 2: and all of a sudden you put them and not
- 24:52Speaker 2: in a Niners Like yeah, you get.
- 24:54Speaker 1: The what it looks different? Yeah, the random Seattle jersey.
- 24:59Speaker 1: You're like, wait, wait a.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Minute, what what is that that's.
- 25:03Speaker 1: I don't Yeah, it didn't feel like it feels disloyal.
- 25:06Speaker 3: It does. It's just like you've been viewed a certain way.
- 25:11Speaker 4: You put on a jersey for so long, like you
- 25:13Speaker 4: become kind of synonymous with that jersey.
- 25:16Speaker 3: Once you take that jersey off, you know, and it's
- 25:19Speaker 3: one thing.
- 25:20Speaker 4: Once you put on a different jersey, then it becomes
- 25:23Speaker 4: a totally different thing, you know, and it just looks different,
- 25:27Speaker 4: like it's not it's not easy on the eyes, you know.
- 25:30Speaker 4: And so I think for me personally, I don't I
- 25:34Speaker 4: don't want to ever put on another jersey, but I
- 25:38Speaker 4: don't want to be forced into retirement and I can
- 25:40Speaker 4: still play, you know, or like just because say my
- 25:44Speaker 4: team that I've been with, it's like we're kind of
- 25:47Speaker 4: at the end of it now if I still got
- 25:50Speaker 4: some left to give, and I got some left to give,
- 25:52Speaker 4: but I don't want to.
- 25:54Speaker 3: I don't have interest in play for another team. I
- 25:57Speaker 3: just don't see it, Like it don't add up to me, right.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Even if it was a home team. You're a Detroit kid.
- 26:04Speaker 1: I'm an Arizona boy. Like, yeah, I mean as.
- 26:09Speaker 4: Dope as it would be to play for the Pistons.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Got respect what they got going, you know, they got
- 26:16Speaker 4: they got a good, young, physical team. They're putting it together.
- 26:19Speaker 4: I always like to see the Pistons do well. So
- 26:21Speaker 4: as dope as it would be to like be like, man,
- 26:23Speaker 4: I'm playing at home, like go to State is my
- 26:27Speaker 4: home now, you know, like NBA basketball, that's my home,
- 26:33Speaker 4: you know, like, yeah, I'm from Michigan. Still got a
- 26:35Speaker 4: sacon Off area code nine A nine that will never change,
- 26:38Speaker 4: you know, like I will always be rooted there, no question.
- 26:43Speaker 4: That's that's home for me, absolutely, But when it comes
- 26:47Speaker 4: to NBA basketball, like the Golden State Warriors is my home.
- 26:50Speaker 4: I'm lucky enough to be one of the guys one
- 26:53Speaker 4: of the few guys in this league.
- 26:56Speaker 3: That can say, yo, I have a home like and
- 26:58Speaker 3: I don't take that for granted.
- 27:00Speaker 1: No doubt.
- 27:00Speaker 2: All Right, last, when I'll get you out of here,
- 27:02Speaker 2: who's your favorite NFL player to watch?
- 27:05Speaker 4: My favorite NFL player to watch today today, I would
- 27:12Speaker 4: say Jamiir Gibbs.
- 27:13Speaker 3: He he he.
- 27:15Speaker 4: He's an electric man like you, like you just need
- 27:19Speaker 4: to get the ball into his hands and like once
- 27:21Speaker 4: he got the ball in his hands, like anything goes.
- 27:27Speaker 3: So I I truly enjoy watching Jamiir Gibbs.
- 27:31Speaker 4: And then that's an offensive guy from a from a
- 27:35Speaker 4: from defensive siety.
- 27:36Speaker 3: Ball. It's impossible to not watch Miles Garrett. Miles Garrett.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Miles Garrett is insane, Like.
- 27:46Speaker 4: Like the stuff that he's doing, the euro Steps, what
- 27:50Speaker 4: we call you're like on these euro Steps is like
- 27:56Speaker 4: like they don't fit in the they don't fit in
- 27:58Speaker 4: the camera.
- 27:59Speaker 3: Like, I mean, it's insane. So what he's doing. And
- 28:03Speaker 3: then I have a huge appreciation appreciation for what Trent
- 28:05Speaker 3: Williams is still doing as well. Elite, elite level office alignment.
- 28:11Speaker 2: There's only one I'm gonna argue on. I can appreciate that,
- 28:15Speaker 2: no doubt, no doubt. Shoot, I appreciate you for tapping.
