- 0:00And what is the soul?
- 0:01The soul is a part of God When we consider his ultimate goodness, we realize that even our perceived wrath in life is life.
- 0:18That even the negativity that we may suffer through in our life, in reality, that negativity is only in order for us to improve ourself, to refine our life.
- 0:37Good morning, everyone.
- 0:39So today we are going to review Psalm 30, 31, 32, 33, and 34.
- 0:49Mizmor Shir Hanukkat Bayit L’David is Psalm 30.
- 0:54And this psalm, the essence of this psalm is a hymn of gratitude to Hashem.
- 1:02This psalm composed by King David, was meant to be sung by the Levites during the dedication of the Beit HaMikdash built during his son, King Solomon, reign.
- 1:17It's a custom from some group of Jews to read it during, Hanukkah.
- 1:25So we can ask, what is the relation between Hanukkah and this psalms?
- 1:31First of all, the name say, Mizmor Shir Hanukkat L’David.
- 1:36So here already we use the word Hanukkah.
- 1:41Singing, to God expresses a longing to merge with him.
- 1:48And there is two type here of a synonym of the word shir.
- 1:56First is the word mizmor, and then the word shir.
- 2:01What is the difference?
- 2:03The sages says that mizmor is a, a song that include musical instrumental.
- 2:14And shir is more a voice.
- 2:18So when we use a musical instrument, is something more material.
- 2:25When you use the voice, it's something more ethereal.
- 2:30And even there is two type of singing, and in prayer too.
- 2:36One that is the one that we use clearly our voice, and another one is a, a tune that we keep in, inside us.
- 2:49That is a way more subtle and more delicate than the first one.
- 2:56This means that there is different levels of a mizmor, and also is poetry, is a poetry that we are reading.
- 3:06And is in the Shacharit, in the morning prayers, and it appear at the beginning of the prayers.
- 3:14To invoke a sense of trust and gratitude for commencing the day.
- 3:22We start the day and we feel also grateful to Hashem for a new cycle of life, a new 24 hours that we are here During the festival of Hanukkah, it is read it through the eight days.
- 3:38Meanwhile, we are watching the, candles of Hanukkah lit up This psalm consists in the, in a gratitude and exalt Hashem.
- 3:54So why we exalt Hashem?
- 3:57Because Hashem continuously, give us protection.
- 4:02So this psalm says,"I cried out to you, and you healed me." You healed me is a moment in despair.
- 4:11We feel better physically, also we sing this psalm because this psalm is a psalm of gratitude when Hashem heal us.
- 4:23The psalm continue and says,"You have raised my soul from the lower world.
- 4:30You have kept me alive.
- 4:34His anger has only a moment," Mean, that the anger of Hashem is temporary.
- 4:42Always He only want to help us, and He listen to us.
- 4:49The psalm says,"In the evening, one retires weeping, but in the morning there is joy.
- 4:57My God, forever will I thank you." So that is the meaning of this psalms, words that concentrate the essence of the gratitude to Hashem.
- 5:10David stresses yielding and subduing the ego to let our divine soul govern and refine our emotion, which is the foundation of character refinement.
- 5:25When we subdue our ego, when we recognize that Hashem is the one that is in charge of everything that happen in the world, and is in charge of our life, and is the one that in reality is helping me, is assisting me through my journey in life, that create in me a bitul.
- 5:54I feel more humble because doesn't depend of me.
- 5:59If I am able to do any kind of action, it's not because I am more intelligent from others.
- 6:08It's not because I am more able to do it is because Hashem give me a gift.
- 6:16And through my gift, I can fulfill my mission of sharing everything that I have, that I am capable to do with the rest of the people around me.
- 6:31In Hebrew, the word Refaeni, that means healing, has another, synonym that means weakening.
- 6:41So what is this healing of Hashem is a healing that subdue my evil inclination and help me to control my animal nature.
- 6:57Because ego represent, the part of us, the part of our life force that protects us.
- 7:07But at the same time that protects us can override on top of us, and then we may forget the source of our life force, is in our soul.
- 7:24And what is the soul?
- 7:26The soul is a part of God When we consider his ultimate goodness, we realize that even our perceived wrath in life is life.
- 7:42That even the negativity that we may suffer through in our life, in reality, that negativity is only in order for us to improve ourself, to refine our life.
- 8:00Hashem give us test constantly.
- 8:05Every day is a day of testing, is a day that we don't know what the day is going to bring us.
- 8:15I open my eyes and I go forward in the life.
- 8:21I don't know what to expect.
- 8:23What will happen through my driving, to work?
- 8:28What are the encounters that I am going to have in my life?
- 8:33So everything, Hashem, makes of obstacles, but those obstacle are only a catalyst f in order that I will refine myself.
- 8:49I will overcome these, obstacles, and then I will dance.
- 8:56I will, change the obstacle in something that will give me joy.
- 9:04Is the same thing when a sport man is preparing for the Olympiads or for any great event, or a singer is preparing to sing in front of public.
- 9:18They have to prepare.
- 9:19We have to prepare ourself, and that preparation makes is the case of a singer, the voice get better.
- 9:28And if in the case of a person that is going to swim for to be a champion in swimming, he also needs to practice the exercise constantly The summary?
- 9:41Psalm 30 composed by King David is hymn of gratitude for God's protection and healing.
- 9:49It emphasizes the importance of subduing the ego to refine emotion and character, highlighting that even perceived wrath or difficulty is ultimately for life growth.
- 10:09When to say the Psalms?
- 10:12When we feel that we, were saved from a difficult situation, then is the moment to recite the Psalm, if you have any question, you can interrupt me any time.
- 10:27I always, open.
- 10:30Continuing, Psalm 31, the essence of Psalm 31 concentrates in the meaning of trust in Hashem, is the meaning of bitachon.
- 10:43There is other psalms that also are connected with trust, but this one especially is about trust.
- 10:52Why?
- 10:53Because says in the psalm,"I entrust into your hands.
- 11:00I commit my spirit.
- 11:03You have liberated me.
- 11:07Adonai, Almighty of truth." Each morning, Hashem returns our souls.
- 11:15This is the most profound demonstration of His love Every morning I wake up, I should have sleep forever, but I am here back into this world.
- 11:29I praise Hashem, and that is reason that we say Modeh Ani lefanecha.
- 11:35Thanks, Hashem.
- 11:36I am thanking i before you because you return my soul to me.
- 11:44When to say?
- 11:45For protection, and also against evil eye.
- 11:51Psalm 32 this psalm addresses the theme of forgiveness of sin, and the blessing bestowed upon those who sincerely repent and confess to God So when we confess to God, because all of us know when we make a mistake, when we do a misdeed, when we use words that are hard to other person, mostly to our loved ones.
- 12:28When we realize that, we have to retreat.
- 12:32We to ask for forgiveness.
- 12:36And actually, in our prayers, in the three Amida, we pray morning, afternoon, and night, we have the part of the Amida that says that we ask for forgiveness.
- 12:52And there is two.
- 12:54One is the one that say teshuvah, that is returning to God, and the other one says selach, that is forgive me.
- 13:04So when I ask for teshuvah is my connection.
- 13:10I am the one that I am interrelating with the other person and asking for that person I want to return.
- 13:22I am realizing that I did something wrong, that I spoke in a tone that was not the right tone but there is two type of teshuvah.
- 13:34One teshuvah that we do because of fear, because I have interest in that person and I don't want to lose their friendship And there is another level of teshuvah that is the highest one, that is the teshuvah of love.
- 13:54I don't do it, not because I am afraid of the separation in my relationship, but I do it because I love that person and the relationship by itself.
- 14:09That's why I don't want to be disconnected.
- 14:14Because when we do something that is negative towards our fellow or towards, any person, we create a, a separation, a breaking of the relationship And so that are the two step.
- 14:34Then we ask for forgiveness.
- 14:38So the forgiveness doesn't depend of me.
- 14:41The forgiveness depend from the other side, how the other side is going to respond to me.
- 14:50Also a relationship with God.
- 14:54So when, for example, there is a difficulties in the relationship between husband and wife, that represent a higher, difficulty, is we are dissociated from Hashem.
- 15:13The same way that you feel dissociated, in certain degree from the other person, that is an equivalent of a higher dimension, that is the dimension of godliness This psalm is a psalm that use a very particular way of directing the psalm.
- 15:38Doesn't use the emotion, doesn't say a, a song, doesn't use mizmor.
- 15:44Use the word maskil.
- 15:47And what is maskil?
- 15:49Comes from the word sechel, that is mind, intellect.
- 15:54So means that in this psalm, we are using our intellect in order to understand the situation of this dissociation or separation between other person and us.
- 16:15So forgiveness comes from returning to God.
- 16:20Punishments, severity decreases with repentance.
- 16:26Means that when we create a negative situation through different ways, through our speech, through our action, that will create a change of action or reactions.
- 16:48And that change of reaction will create what for us will be perceived as a punishment, a severity.
- 17:01So how we can reduce that?
- 17:04We reduce it through our repentance, through our teshuvah, through our reconnecting to the situation, to reconnecting with the other person, to reconnecting with God.
- 17:23So God forgives those who return whole-heartedly and genuinely intend to avoid future sins.
- 17:34So what this means?
- 17:37This means if I, am-- I understand that I have a trait in my characters that are negative And I want to repair that.
- 17:52So in order to repair, the first step will be to recognize my mistake Secondly is to when I will confronted with a situation that will repeat, that created my negative reaction, I will be able to control myself.
- 18:17So when I am able to control it, means that I overcame my ways of behaving, in the negative way.
- 18:30Because we, we have thousands millions billions and trillions of thought in our head.
- 18:39We have a way to react to the world that is in front of us, depending of our personality, depending also of our education.
- 18:53Because the education that is external is a, a very important factor that we have in our reactions in life.
- 19:05So there is two ways we can react, and in a better way, a higher way, is to know how to control our thought.
- 19:19So in order to control, first I control my thought, I furthermore, I will control my speech, and furthermore, I will control my action.
- 19:30Is a change reaction that exists from mind, speech, and action.
- 19:40That are the three garments of the soul.
- 19:44Hasidut teaches that there is three garments of the soul, thought, speech, and action.
- 19:53So we are made in a certain way since we were born, and you can see different characters and different, attitude from the beginning that we were babies.
- 20:13A baby shows his character to the parents.
- 20:17He shows his character to the person around them.
- 20:21So they, that personality that is in you is part of our nature, we have to transform through life And how we transform by also learning and studying and knowing how to control.
- 20:45If we don't control, we become very miserable because the world will respond to our action.
- 20:55The world will respond, or the other side will respond to my negativity.
- 21:01And when they respond negatively to me, that create a event, a situation that, make me feel bad and doesn't allow me to grow and to progress and to be successful in my life.
- 21:24Could be at home, could be at work, could be socially.
- 21:29So socially, for example, there is people, they don't are attractive to friends, and that make them to feel solitary.
- 21:40When a person is solitary, in solitude, they are not happy with themself because we are social people.
- 21:50We want to connect with others.
- 21:53We don't want to be in our bubble.
- 21:57So that create a reaction of situation of, attitudes and ways of react from us.
- 22:08That make a person feel that he's not being loved, or he's not being successful externally or in his inner domain, in his relation with his family.
- 22:26There is people that are very successful as at the level of socially.
- 22:32They can be artists.
- 22:34They can be whatever kind of, even a president of a country.
- 22:41They can reach very high level socially.
- 22:46But in their inner life, they are a mess The idea is that socially and inner, world, I also, I am successful.
- 23:01When to say, seeking divine compassion and mercy from Hashem, and I will say also when we were to seek the forgiveness from other people towards us.
- 23:15Continuing.
- 23:17Psalm 33 is a song of praise, but a praise from the righteous people.
- 23:26Says, Al-Tsadikim.
- 23:29Tsadikim means righteous.
- 23:33This psalmist asserts that deliverance is not contingent upon the might of victors.
- 23:40Mean, if a warrior capable to win a war doesn't depend of the strength of the warriors.
- 23:50Depend only by the deliverance of HaKadosh Baruch Hu.
- 23:55So if Israel, for example, wants to be successful in a war, that success depend Above everything, depend only in God.
- 24:11So the Psalms impart a message to righteous and upright individuals.
- 24:19Righteous also, there are people that they consider that they are very proper, very correct in everything that they do.
- 24:30This psalm is urging them to extol God's greatness with knowledge and comprehension.
- 24:38So a Jew, how we grow spiritually, we grow in our service to God when we learn the secrets and the wisdom of the Torah.
- 24:52When we learn, for example, right now, we are learning the secret of the Tehillim that are part of the Torah.
- 25:02This is the the Psalms are part of a part of the Torah that is called writings.
- 25:09So here we are learning the secrets, the understanding of a psalm that is very poetic.
- 25:17Many times we don't understand even that we read the translation, we don't understand the meaning of the words.
- 25:25So that is the reason of these classes.
- 25:30The righteous recognize that God's decrees and laws are just.
- 25:37Correct?
- 25:38We need to recognize them.
- 25:40When faced with personal difficulties, they praise God with joy, acknowledging that whatever befalls them stems from God and ultimately for their benefit.
- 25:56At times, God implements righteousness with kindness, and at times with justice.
- 26:04His justice is tempered with kindness.
- 26:08Is the two side of one hand, we have the right hand that is the hands of kindness, and the left hand that is the Gevurah, the hand of severity.
- 26:22Hashem always goes between those two wings of a bird.
- 26:29A bird cannot fly with one wing.
- 26:32He needs two.
- 26:34He needs to balance his body in order to fly and soar So when to say these psalms?
- 26:46When suffering from distress, because it teach you how to recognize second, for parents whose children pass away, is because of one of the, verses written in the psalm.
- 27:04And third, when visiting the burial place of a righteous.
- 27:09When we go, let's say, to Safed in Israel and we go to the burial of all the tzadikim, we read this psalm.
- 27:20Continue, the last one is Psalm 34.
- 27:24The psalm, the essence of Psalm 34 is an advice, is a list of advices of how we have to behave in life.
- 27:37And so is, these psalms impart teachings and sage counsel, guiding individuals to a life aligned with divine principle.
- 27:50So that is the moral, the essence of the Psalm 34.
- 27:57And here there is a list of different, advices that David HaMelech is giving to us.
- 28:06It expresses gratitude for God's blessing, acknowledging them in times of reason and folly.
- 28:15There is the psalm, say about, David HaMelech when he was captured by Avimelech, the king of the, Philistine at that time.
- 28:27In order to save himself, he feigned that he was like a madman.
- 28:36And there was a miracle, and the miracle was that Hashem sent angels and the Philistine think,"Okay, there is no reason to have this stupid king.
- 28:50He doesn't have any value." And they expel him, and that's why he escaped So that's why we have also, we have moments in life, moments that we use our reason, our intellect, our processing, mind and there is moment that we have to fake, and that is what it means.
- 29:17Second says the Psalm encourages the humble to rejoice and emphasize that those who wear tefillin, tzitzit, and mezuzah will not sin as God's angel will rescue them.
- 29:35So when a man put tefillin on his front head And in his arm, he is protecting him.
- 29:45He is creating a connection between mind and between action, because the arm are the tools we have in our body to materialize a creation.
- 29:59The same way that we are connecting mind with action, we are connecting our mind, with the divine mind, and we are connecting our arm with Hashem spiritual arms.
- 30:16So that is a perfect connection.
- 30:19Then tzitzit is a garment that the religious Jews, they put on, before or after when they are getting dressed.
- 30:30And this, tzitzit have, have fringes that are in the four corners of the garment.
- 30:39And then we have the mezuzah.
- 30:41The mezuzah is a parchment where the, parchment we have the name Chakai written in, the Shema Yisrael inside the, parchment.
- 30:55We hung this parchment in a little box in, every door of our house, not only in the front door, but every door except the restroom.
- 31:10So thus, the mezuzah, the tzitzit, and the tefillin, they are made in order to protect us.
- 31:21The person that carry all of three has the protection and the help from Hashem to control the, his, negativity, that they have that may lead the person to sin The number three says it concludes with a call to taste and see that God is good and to trust in him.
- 31:51Use the word taste because taste is a sensory that we have in our mouth, in the tongue, that help us differentiate between different, savors, between different flavors that we are eating.
- 32:12And it's also a way of protection because we taste, we can find out if what we are drinking or we are eating is good, fresh, condition, or is harmful to us.
- 32:26So that's why they, the Psalm use the word taste.
- 32:30So we have to taste and see that God is good and to trust in him.
- 32:38That is the advice.
- 32:41Next, where God's essence is revealed and present, good result to be expected.
- 32:49So one practice in our life before leaving home or even in the morning, is to place the name, the essential name of God, the Yud Hey Vav Hey, Yud Hey Vav Hey in front of us.
- 33:09So when we put the name of Hashem in front of us, that is another way of be connected with God and having his presence in front of us all the time Next, who desires life and longs for a long life to see goodness?
- 33:31Everyone, right?
- 33:33Guard your, guard your tongue from evil and turn away his soul from it.
- 33:42He who guards his mouth and tongue guard his soul from affliction.
- 33:50Seek peace.
- 33:52He's teaching us, seek peace and pursue it.
- 33:57This is what David HaMelech is saying.
- 34:00Seek peace, seeks a completion.
- 34:04Next, here the Baal Shem Tov taught something that I would like to express because it is very fundamental.
- 34:15The fact that a person observes fault in his fellow is a prompt from heaven to address that same flaw in himself.
- 34:29When you see something negative in someone, is you are seeing a mirror image from you.
- 34:39So when we understand that, We are connecting now through the internet, but there is an interconnection not only through the internet, there is an interconnection in the cosmos.
- 34:54There is an interconnection between minds.
- 34:57You can heal someone that could be at miles and miles of distance.
- 35:04That is also possible.
- 35:06The Chinese people, they have a way to heal and even to do surgery without cutting the body.
- 35:17So they use a force that is completely an energy force in order to heal the body.
- 35:26This is extraordinary you can cause some good to others and also you can, create bad to others.
- 35:40It's the evil eye.
- 35:43The evil eye exist when a person, he's jealous from other.
- 35:49When you have a married woman that is not capable of having children, she is infertile, and she sees her friend being pregnant, even if she doesn't want to hurt the friend, but only the desire of being pregnant may affect the other woman.
- 36:12So that is what is called evil eye.
- 36:17Not evil tongue, evil eye.
- 36:21Continue.
- 36:22God is close to and hear the prayers of those who humble themselves and repent of their misdeeds.
- 36:32That is very important to remember.
- 36:36Don't think that if you don't see the answer immediately, it's because Hashem doesn't listen to us.
- 36:44Hashem always listen to our desires and to our prayers.
- 36:52Of course, if they have to be legitimate and they have to be holy.
- 36:58Next.
- 36:58Even if many afflictions Hashem come upon the righteous, God will save them from them all.
- 37:11Believe in that.
- 37:12Hashem always want to save us, let's says I am driving in the highway and a few minutes after that I pass certain, distance, I see in my behind a, a accident.
- 37:27So if I will be in time for the accident, God save me for that accident.
- 37:35So that is a way to say thank you to Hashem.
- 37:42So the the last one that I have here, God says, you have 248 limbs.
- 37:51All of us, we have 248 limbs.
- 37:56That includes sinews, that, that include every part of, of, of the body, and that correspond of the 248 positive commandments of the Torah.
- 38:13What that's mean?
- 38:15That if you maintain the 248 commandments that are positive and the 365 you abstain from them So then that is a, a psalm of 613 commandments.
- 38:36Hashem will maintain and protect your body, and will protects us from any disease, a spiritual disease as well as physical disease.
- 38:51When a person has a problem in the knee, that means it's not only the knee, it's not only a, a trauma or a, or a degeneration of the of the joint.
- 39:06It's also an emotion that a person capture or hold in that place.
- 39:14So everything in our body has a counterpart that is spiritual.
- 39:21When we follow the laws of Hashem, we are going to be protected and be able to heal ourself.
- 39:35Okay, so when to say this psalm?
- 39:37For traveling in a journey, before delivering a speech, before facing an important authority.
- 39:48So this is my today talk.
- 39:53This is the review of those psalms.
- 39:55I think that is very, very useful because when we were, reviewing the psalm, we didn't have this focus in those points that are so important.
- 40:10Okay, so now is your turn, and I don't know who would like to, start.
- 40:19always, let's see.
- 40:22Hannah, you want to start?
- 40:25Sure, no problem.
- 40:26I, I'm just, like, overwhelmed in a good way of, so many teachings.
- 40:33It's really special, those five psalms, as you mentioned.
- 40:38yeah, it, it's a guide, and there's a lot of...
- 40:41It, it, it touches on many points that throughout the years you've been discussing with us.
- 40:47It just readdress from Betul to the teachings of the Baal Shem Tov, uh, on husband and wife.
- 40:55I, I really enjoyed it.
- 40:57I do have, something that is, like, a question, I'd say.
- 41:01When, we women, we don't wear tzitzit or we don't wear tefillin if we're not commanded by the Torah to, to wear it.
- 41:10So from the three items that are mentioned here to garment, our, ourselves, only the mezuzah in our houses, what...
- 41:20Is there anything you wanna say about this?
- 41:23Yes.
- 41:23The, yes, it's very important what you are asking, and it's a very good question.
- 41:28Yeah.
- 41:29first of all, the woman was created from Adam.
- 41:37So the level of the woman is, spiritually is higher.
- 41:42Don't tell your husband, but it's true.
- 41:46Okay?
- 41:47Is, in a, in a way that we have a little higher refinement, in, than in men.
- 41:59And actually, in general, not always, women are a little more spiritual oriented than men.
- 42:09Man is more grounded, more practical.
- 42:14They only understand what, where is the benefit of what they are doing.
- 42:21But a, a woman is a little more uh, refined.
- 42:27I will say the word refined.
- 42:29Not always the woman is more refined, but we have that potential to be more refined.
- 42:37And they says that, once I heard a kabbalist answer the same question, and he says,"When you bake challah- And, and, you, that is we have, three mitzvot that are only for the woman.
- 42:58That is taharat hamishpacha.
- 43:00Mm-hmm.
- 43:00That mean is going to the mikvah, The mystery the laws of niddah, the laws of separating when a woman is, the time of the menstruation.
- 43:11Right.
- 43:12And so that is exclusively a mitzvah for woman.
- 43:17In the same way, the man can go to the mikvah, but doesn't have the same, is it doesn't have the same dimension of the mikvah for niddah.
- 43:29The second one is hadlakat nerot in Shabbat.
- 43:33So when we light the candles of Shabbat, we bring light into our home.
- 43:41We bring wisdom into our home.
- 43:45We bring the Torah into our home.
- 43:48So that is a huge, important mitzvah.
- 43:53Then we have the challah.
- 43:56So when we bake bread...
- 44:00And what is the bread?
- 44:01The bread is the symbol of sustenance.
- 44:09We, when, the sustenance comes from the bread.
- 44:13Yeah.
- 44:14And the bread is, we say, when we, we say the blessing, hamotzi lechem min ha'aretz, that Hashem is bringing the sustenance from the earth So that, and, and when we do the excuse me, when before baking the challah, we add, we not for beauty, not for that looks nicer.
- 44:43We, we spread egg on top of the, of the loaf that is not baked yet.
- 44:54So that create a reflection because it's something shiny.
- 45:01When you do, the, the bread is shiny.
- 45:05So that shine represent also a connection.
- 45:09It's the connection between...
- 45:12Everything is a connection between the spiritual.
- 45:15That is the connection between the sun and the moon, because the moon is the representation of a woman and the sun is the representation of, of a man.
- 45:31So those three mitzvot that are exclusively given as a responsibility by the woman are the equivalent of, of these mitzvot of tzitzit and the Perfect of tefillin.
- 45:48Perfect.
- 45:48I love it.
- 45:49Thank you so much.
- 45:50I just wanna make a, a quick note so I don't take, too much time from the others.
- 45:55I love also that you explain a little further on the challah and the egg, because I've seen, many times people saying,"Oh, we don't need to make challah.
- 46:06We can, do the, the blessing, on, on, on the sourdough, like two loaves of, of sourdough." But it's not the same, right?
- 46:13Absolutely.
- 46:13It's not the same.
- 46:14No.
- 46:14Right?
- 46:15Okay.
- 46:15I love that.
- 46:16Absolutely.
- 46:16And, and beside, it's a, a, it's a omen for the home to bake challah every Friday.
- 46:27Yeah, I love it.
- 46:28Thank you so much.
- 46:30Okay.
- 46:30Thank you.
- 46:31All right, Anita, do you want to, to jump in?
- 46:36I'm jumping.
- 46:38Okay.
- 46:38At first, it seems, uh, the, the first in number 30, That David is con- considering all of the things he might have done wrong in the past.
- 46:54I don't know.
- 46:55There was a line in there that was just, it made me feel like he was, he had And I, and I don't know where it is now, No, it, it's only that I David is the example.
- 47:11David has many, defects in, as a person.
- 47:17Right.
- 47:17Okay?
- 47:18Mm.
- 47:18The, many many defects.
- 47:20He first of all, he was a warrior, and he splet, splet, no, spilt, spilt, blood.
- 47:28He spilt blood, right.
- 47:30Okay?
- 47:31So, and this is the reason that he couldn't build the Beit Hamikdash, because of that.
- 47:37Right.
- 47:37He also, he committed, eh, there is explanation by Kabbalah, but anyway, at the, open eye, he also committed a, a sin with Bathsheba and also sending her husband to war.
- 47:57Correct?
- 47:58Right.
- 47:58So that was a huge sin.
- 48:01So he, eh, but the difference between David HaMelech, that he has the potential to become a tzadik.
- 48:10He was How, how does he become a, a, a tzadik?
- 48:14He became a tzadik, but, the proof is all what he's teaching us.
- 48:19He is a very He, but he represent the potential of every one of us to transform our negativity in something very holy and positive That is the essence of David Melech That's what I was trying to figure out.
- 48:39Okay.
- 48:40so that is that he always, he says,"My sins are, are, going after me.
- 48:49I, I feel, pursued by, my, by my sins." No pursue.
- 48:55Pursue is another...
- 48:56In, in, in Spanish means, not something else.
- 48:58But what I mean is I...
- 49:01the sins are going, go after me all the time.
- 49:04Hunting.
- 49:04Maybe haunted.
- 49:05Haunted, right?
- 49:06Haunted me all the time.
- 49:07Correct.
- 49:08Oh, haunted.
- 49:09Okay.
- 49:10Okay?
- 49:10And this is this is what happened with us personally, too, because our mistake haunt us all the time.
- 49:20You, And some of them, you feel that you cannot repair them.
- 49:26Right.
- 49:27So you cannot return a person that is alive, that is dead and, and tell him forgiveness.
- 49:35So how do you make Teshuvah with, with a person who has passed?
- 49:40Okay.
- 49:40uh, depend of what is the, the sin.
- 49:45Depend, beside that we know that Yom Kippur will erase those kind of, of mistakes.
- 49:53But always there is a residue that is, with us especially, and, and is behind our minds constantly.
- 50:03We feel very sorry that we make that mistake Correct?
- 50:08mistakes that we do constantly.
- 50:10I, I, I make a, a wrong decision to, to sell my house, for example.
- 50:17I should keep it, my house.
- 50:20Okay?
- 50:21So those are things that we have in our mind that, make us feel that, negatively about ourself Okay, I...
- 50:33Yes But what Hashem's saying is not to stay in that energy is what we're, what, I'm understanding from Psalm 30.
- 50:41Is that correct?
- 50:43Repeat again.
- 50:44I didn't understand your word.
- 50:46Your first sentence.
- 50:49So what I'm understanding from Psalm 30 is we're not supposed to stay in that energy.
- 50:55Right.
- 50:56Correct.
- 50:56Okay?
- 50:57Correct.
- 50:57Because you can't get to your greatness, you can't get to your, you can't be who you're supposed to be if you're staying in that energy of all that guilt or shame Correct you have to move past that, and the question is, how do you move past that so that you can be able to live in your greatness and really, your divine self?
- 51:19yes.
- 51:19'Cause otherwise you're really in your Absolutely.
- 51:21Absolutely you're in your animal soul if you don't move on and you don't move past.
- 51:27There's no way that you can really stand in your greatness and your purpose when you're stuck in guilt or shame or whatever it Of course and not forgiving.
- 51:39Of course.
- 51:40The whole idea, as King David is you have to be willing to forgive.
- 51:44You have to be willing to move past it.
- 51:46Find a way that works so you can move past it, because if you don't, it's gonna weigh you down, and you can't feel your greatness.
- 51:56Yes.
- 51:56You'll never get to your Yes because you're stuck in that negativity.
- 51:59You're stuck in those blockages.
- 52:01You're stuck in illness, disease.
- 52:03You'll never get there.
- 52:04So that's what I think is really being said with King David is,"No, I made some really bad sins, but I'm able to move on." yes.
- 52:17this is the point.
- 52:18And we have that, the, the Torah give us tools to reach to that estate, and that is the three prayers in the Amida.
- 52:31There is the, the Shema Yisrael L'ha-Mita before going to sleep.
- 52:35All the we are forgetting, and Shema Yisrael says, Hayom, means today.
- 52:43We have to live the present moment.
- 52:46We cannot be, stuck in the past or, or have imagination of the future that will create in us also anxiety for a future.
- 52:58So we have to be be present.
- 53:02We have to feel the presence of Hashem in front of us all the time.
- 53:07So that is our protection, and this is the meaning of all the psalms.
- 53:12And this is the teaching of David HaMelech.
- 53:15and, and in fact, like I said before to to Anita, I David haMelech transformed himself.
- 53:22That's right.
- 53:23He was able to make a completely 180 degree turn, and be from a person that was a sinner to a person that became a tzadik.
- 53:39And this is the potential, this is the capacity that all of us has, but it's very difficult to go over that.
- 53:49It's a whole work.
- 53:51It's a work of work and work, focus and concentration, that we need to create in our life in order to overcome that, all this negativity that we have by default.
- 54:09Isn't Psalm 32 also asking for forgiveness?
- 54:13so that kind of yes, yes It's true.
- 54:15Yes.
- 54:16It's also asking for forgiveness.
- 54:18Yeah.
- 54:18But has a different hue, a different Okay a different perspective.
- 54:22But, this is the idea So the the, the 30 is more an hymn of gratitude.
- 54:30I thank you, God, because you save me.
- 54:34That is the number one.
- 54:37So because Hashem save, the, the land of Israel and the Maccabees in Hanukkah- and save also during Purim, save the Queen Esther and Mordechai, that they had a decree of extermination like the Nazis, exactly the same decree of extermination, we thank Hashem.
- 55:03So the purpose of the psalm is gratitude.
- 55:07Okay, let me see here down.
- 55:10Invite...
- 55:11Oh, Natalie is here.
- 55:14invite, so I, Inga is here.
- 55:18Let me give to Inga the, the work because she is not feeling so well today.
- 55:25I've been awake.
- 55:25I, this is a wonderful lecture.
- 55:28It's, I...
- 55:29Allow me a moment of egocentricity.
- 55:31It just was endowed with so much traits and so much of what I have gone through and experienced, it felt like was a total dedication to my life.
- 55:40I can't thank you enough how eye-opening, and heart-overflowing this lecture was today.
- 55:46and Baruch Hashem, I stayed awake.
- 55:50Okay, good.
- 55:51Good.
- 55:52Shira, you want to, to say a few words?
- 55:57no, I thought it was, really beautiful.
- 55:58I like what you say about, bitachon, and, it was really great.
- 56:03It was a, a good...
- 56:04Learned a lot from these.
- 56:06Thank you.
- 56:06Thank you.
- 56:07Dr.
- 56:08Yun?
- 56:09Yeah.
- 56:10talking about, the forgiveness and, and then I wanna, um, make a comment on, the Psalms 34 that it says God save, God wants to save us, even if there are many afflictions.
- 56:24the connecting to the parsha this week, Noah, and, there's such a Yeah and Noah being righteous, and Hashem tried to save him and that, and I think we see flooding as maybe, it's like a destroying the world, but, I read a commentary by Rebbe that he said, the lower world is reflection of a higher world.
- 56:48So in a higher world, there is no evil.
- 56:50There have no...
- 56:51There is no place for evil.
- 56:53So in the lower world, there is no evil.
- 56:56So the flooding is like, this comment is from, Torah class before, but, the flooding is just the Hashem is trying to purify us like a mikvah.
- 57:08And I know that there are, in a commentary, 40 by 40, 40 nights, 40 40 days and nights.
- 57:15So it's not destroying the world because of the wickedness, but Hashem tried to save us and tried to purify us by giving us mikvah.
- 57:26So it's like in Arizona, we had some good rain recently.
- 57:32So if I see rain, I feel like, oh, Hashem is, not only blessing the plants, for their survival, but also give us mikvah.
- 57:41So it's like, it it feels like purifying ourselves through this beautiful rain, Mm-hmm.
- 57:47Yes?
- 57:48Mary, may...
- 57:49Are you finished, Yun?
- 57:50Yes.
- 57:51May I add something?
- 57:52Let me ask, Dr.
- 57:53Yun, do you finish?
- 57:55Yeah.
- 57:56Okay.
- 57:56Yes, Inga.
- 57:57water has traditionally been described as a purifying agent.
- 58:01Correct.
- 58:02And so rather...
- 58:04and you triggered this for me, you, when you said that, the flood was to destroy the world, when in essence it was Hashem trying to cleanse the world as it was from its evil.
- 58:14Unsuccessful.
- 58:15the two temples came down, one of them because of unwarranted hate between ourselves.
- 58:21Unsuccessful.
- 58:22Sodom and Gomorrah, cleanse the earth of evil.
- 58:25Unsuccessful.
- 58:27So Hashem, as, this is pure conjecture of course, and all triggered by what you said, Yun, just now, that, what are we looking at Hashem?
- 58:35Because Hashem is so complex.
- 58:37One of us can see it one way, and the other can see it a, yet another way, and the third can see it four more times.
- 58:42So we don't really fully understand what is happening, and yet, today, this day and age, we are challenged to see, that we are tested again.
- 58:52We...
- 58:52Are we going to be cleansed or are we going to be destroyed?
- 58:56And, as far as the monsoon rain that you're so enjoying, thank you that you are,'cause I'm miserable,'cause everything is activated for me.
- 59:04But, it doesn't matter that I'm suffering, enormous pain.
- 59:07the monsoon is a wonderful gift to this earth, to here to Arizona, and just the beauty of the rain every night is something so soothing and uplifting.
- 59:18Very good.
- 59:19Very good.
- 59:19Okay, I would like to hear from you.
- 59:22I'm just sitting here thinking about whether I wanna talk about this.
- 59:26Here it comes.
- 59:27I, I just have been reflecting about, I, about my past, my life, in, in that, growing up, I was in a, my...
- 59:38We belonged to a conservative synagogue with, and it was also before, in, even in conservative, with a, an orthodox rabbi.
- 59:48And I was always jealous of the, the boys because they got to read Torah, and I, my bat mitzvah, in, when I was bat mitzvah'd, I did the Friday night service, which I think was pretty traditional back in those days, and...
- 1:00:03But I was always jealous that I, the guys got to read Torah and I couldn't.
- 1:00:09and then, in my more adult life, continuing to be in a conservative synagogue, conservative atmosphere, then the egalitarianism came in and that, for me, I liked the idea of being on an equal plane.
- 1:00:26I never could understand the Orthodox, or the way of looking at, of, of having different roles for men and women.
- 1:00:35I, I was into the whole egalitarian thing.
- 1:00:39And, and now here I am at CBT and learning so much and finding the beauty of being a woman and having the, the distinction and the difference between what men's duties are, men's rights or whatever are, and, and what are their roles, what men's roles are and their duties and the roles of the woman.
- 1:01:01And so it's almost a full circle except that Yes resented it.
- 1:01:06As a child, I resented it.
- 1:01:07And as an adult, I, it's beautiful, and I'm so appreciative.
- 1:01:10So thank you for, I no, today about this link women and men, they are two dimension, two different dimension with two different roles.
- 1:01:21The woman is inner, internal.
- 1:01:25The man is the exterior world.
- 1:01:28We are the, the one that protect the man.
- 1:01:34We are the one that receive the, the children and are the beginner in the education and the formation, and we are the doctors of the house.
- 1:01:47We take care of our children, our husband.
- 1:01:52We are the one, if someone, our, like our grandmothers, if someone has A flu, a using remedies, home remedies to heal.
- 1:02:04So the woman in the past, they were the, healers.
- 1:02:09In the time of the, Middle Age, the women they were the healers.
- 1:02:15And because of being the healers, they were killed in the estad because the men they did, they were afraid of the power of the woman.
- 1:02:25And in the Torah, there is so many great womans in the Torah.
- 1:02:30I, I-- now I don't have time to exalt all of them.
- 1:02:35but only look at Sarah, look at Rivka, look at all of them, all the beauty of those woman.
- 1:02:43But the woman is in their home.
- 1:02:47The woman is the one that create the foundation of the home.
- 1:02:52You are the foundation.
- 1:02:54You are the light.
- 1:02:56That's why we light the candles in Shabbat.
- 1:02:58You are the one that heal, and that's why you take care of the food that enters in the house.
- 1:03:05There is no other one.
- 1:03:07Your husband, no.
- 1:03:07Your husband can-- if he is kind enough, he can-- and he likes, he can do some shopping.
- 1:03:14But the one that is putting everything together and creating, wonderful flavors and delicacies is only the woman in the kitchen.
- 1:03:25So we are the one that create the the house.
- 1:03:29We one-- are the one that create harmony and peace in the house.
- 1:03:35So we are the supporters of the house, the foundation of a home.
- 1:03:42The only-- the problem with the woman is they don't know their own value That is the problem.
- 1:03:50Good.
- 1:03:51And in the Torah, and Yiddish That's true and in Judah, it's not.
- 1:03:54We elevate the woman very much, and that's why in Shabbat we say eshet chayil.
- 1:04:02Eshet chayil.
- 1:04:02Okay?
- 1:04:03So that, all this thing is a, a confirmation, a verification of the importance of a woman in Torah.
- 1:04:15So there, then...
- 1:04:17But unfortunately, it is a problem of ignorance and lack of a good quality of education.
- 1:04:25That is the problem.
- 1:04:26mm-hmm, Okay?
- 1:04:27Thank you I, eh, I don't know if, someone still is here.
- 1:04:31I think that, eh, Renee, I don't know if you want to add something.
- 1:04:37Julie, I didn't, give you enough honor today.
- 1:04:41Please.
- 1:04:42my children just arrived from Colorado, so I'm gonna go.
- 1:04:46Oh.
- 1:04:46But I, what I found was fascinating was, is that, and I'd like to understand more about it, was, is that you said that all our diseases are linked to an organ in our body, Correct what spiritually that means, and I'd really...
- 1:05:02I was fascinated by that, and I wanna understand more.
- 1:05:06And, so that's where I was at right now.
- 1:05:08But they just arrived, I'm gonna go.
- 1:05:11Okay.
- 1:05:11Okay.
- 1:05:11Enjoy.
- 1:05:12Enjoy.
- 1:05:12But, and, I...
- 1:05:13Eh, ask me the same question next week.
- 1:05:16Okay.
- 1:05:16And, and, this is a very fascinating topic.
- 1:05:21Very fascinating.
- 1:05:22Very fascinating.
- 1:05:22I'm very interested in finding more.
- 1:05:24Is there a book that I can also read that has to go, that goes with it, too?
- 1:05:30in this moment, I don't recall any, any book that, Okay have that as a, a theme of the book.
- 1:05:37I don't...
- 1:05:38I, Okay it's very cryptic because it's more a kabbalistic concept.
- 1:05:43Oh, I'd like to hear very I'd like to hear a lot more about that.
- 1:05:47Okay.
- 1:05:48Okay?
- 1:05:48Next week.
- 1:05:48Next week.
- 1:05:49Okay.
- 1:05:49Have a good day.
- 1:05:50Enjoy your family.
- 1:05:51Thank you so much.
- 1:05:52Bye, everyone.
- 1:05:53Enjoy.
- 1:05:53Enjoy.
- 1:05:53Bye.
- 1:05:53Bye.
- 1:05:54Bye.
- 1:05:55Thank you.
- 1:05:56Bye bye.
- 1:05:56Okay, my dear friend.
- 1:05:57I have something here that is A-L-K.
- 1:06:02I would like that if you are so kind to be in, to show your face, if you can, show your video, your image, or to say your name.
- 1:06:17and another thing, if you have any question, I would love to respond.
- 1:06:23Are you there?
- 1:06:24I have a question.
- 1:06:26One second, Inca.
- 1:06:29Okay, sure.
- 1:06:30Yes.
- 1:06:30and I don't...
- 1:06:31let me see if I can work out here.
- 1:06:35Oh, you are not present.
- 1:06:38Oh.
- 1:06:38aha.
- 1:06:39Yes.
- 1:06:41yes.
- 1:06:41I, I would like to hear from you what is...
- 1:06:44Do you have any comment?
- 1:06:47Oh, it's Yes isn't it?
- 1:06:48Amy?
- 1:06:48Yes.
- 1:06:49Yes, Miriam.
- 1:06:50Hi.
- 1:06:51Hi.
- 1:06:51hi, hi.
- 1:06:52this is, I'm trying to work through your Zoom, setup here, and I got on through an email, but I wasn't able to work all the controls for Zoom, so I'll get back to you later on that.
- 1:07:04But, I, I'm really fascinated by your recent comment that, women need to recognize their value.
- 1:07:13I, I wanna take another side to this, and that is I think women do understand and recognize their value.
- 1:07:22I think there's another component of this, that the men do not recognize the value necessarily of the women.
- 1:07:33What is your take on that?
- 1:07:36This is true.
- 1:07:37It's for both side.
- 1:07:39Because for example, when you have a relationship between two person, and if one is weak as, in, in his auto confidence, so that person will be swallow for the other.
- 1:07:54If the other side, if he, that person, one of There is in a marriage, for example, you can find that the woman is very strong, and the man is like a, looks like a, a follower of the woman.
- 1:08:10So depend of the confidence and the strength of the person, so that will make that person to be recognized and considered.
- 1:08:24and in and in the, if you look at the history, for example, you find in the time of Spain, I, comes to my mind that to remember, they were, for example, a very rich woman.
- 1:08:39she was Jewish.
- 1:08:41And she help and save a, many families, by her strength and her power.
- 1:08:50So even it was the time where woman, they were not recognized at all.
- 1:08:56It was always woman that a stand, and they were recognized because they were very strong.
- 1:09:06So that, that is what we see here.
- 1:09:10Even the Queen Elizabeth.
- 1:09:11I think that Queen Elizabeth was a very strong woman.
- 1:09:15And she knew how to present herself.
- 1:09:19it depend, again, I consider depend of the confidence and the self-understanding of that person.
- 1:09:27Who, how, that person i-identify herself, how she sees herself.
- 1:09:35So depending on how you see yourself is how others will see you.
