Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken.
- 0:02Speaker 2: It's your dose of the hottest influencer and pop culture
- 0:05Speaker 2: news twice a week. I'm Sophie Torber and coming up
- 0:08Speaker 2: on today's show, Georgia Love opens up for the first
- 0:12Speaker 2: time about her split from husband Lee Elliott, Shameless Media's
- 0:16Speaker 2: off-brand interview and our Friday debrief.
- 0:20Speaker 1: But first, speculation is mounting that Tammy Hembrough and Matt
- 0:23Speaker 1: Sikowsky are on a break, with.
- 0:25Speaker 2: The couple appearing to live in separate states Kate, the
- 0:28Speaker 2: Love Island contestant was missing from his stepson Wolf's birthday celebrations. Yeah,
- 0:32Speaker 2: for those playing at home, that's three special events in
- 0:35Speaker 2: three weeks.
- 0:36Speaker 1: So Easter, Tammy's birthday, and now Wolf's birthday.
- 0:40Speaker 2: To be fair, Wolf's biological dad, Rhys Hawkins, was also
- 0:43Speaker 2: missing from the celebration.
- 0:44Speaker 1: This makes me feel so.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Sorry for Wolf because if anything, it seems like he
- 0:48Speaker 2: and Matt have developed quite a special bond over the
- 0:50Speaker 2: past year. They seem to do a lot of boy
- 0:53Speaker 2: activities together. And it's clear that Wolf is really looking
- 0:55Speaker 2: at him as a father figure. I mean, he is
- 0:57Speaker 2: his stepdad now. And it's not like Tammy was hiding
- 0:59Speaker 2: the fact that he wasn't there. She documented the celebrations
- 1:02Speaker 2: across her Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat. She even shared vision
- 1:05Speaker 2: of her setting up the party by herself without her
- 1:08Speaker 2: wedding rings on. You could see she was very emotional
- 1:11Speaker 2: in the lead up to his birthday as well.
- 1:13Speaker 1: He turned 10 and she was.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Talking about how he's always been that constant fixture in
- 1:18Speaker 2: her life. And I wonder if it's because she's reflecting
- 1:21Speaker 2: on some of her failed relationships and that Wolf and
- 1:25Speaker 2: her kids have been there through.
- 1:26Speaker 1: All of it.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Well, thankfully, it seemed like Wolf had a good time
- 1:29Speaker 2: despite Matt not being there. And Tammy said Wolf had
- 1:33Speaker 2: the best day ever. So they went laser skirmishing and go-karting.
- 1:36Speaker 2: And afterwards, he cut cake at home alongside his mum,
- 1:40Speaker 2: his aunties and younger cousins. Again, it was quite clear
- 1:43Speaker 2: that Matt wasn't there.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Wolfen's just such a sweetheart. This is what he said
- 1:47Speaker 1: to his family after they bought out the cake.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I want to know where he's getting this English accent from.
- 2:02Speaker 2: This is a big point of discussion on TikTok. Everyone
- 2:04Speaker 2: is like, he speaks so proper.
- 2:06Speaker 1: He's so well-spoken. Where did this voice come from?
- 2:09Speaker 2: Yeah, it's definitely not a Gold Coast accent.
- 2:11Speaker 1: It is very sweet.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Now, that night, Tammy revealed she and Wolf were having
- 2:15Speaker 2: a Marvel movie marathon in her bed, making it even
- 2:18Speaker 2: more obvious that Matt wasn't there. Now, Matt also didn't
- 2:21Speaker 2: wish his stepson a happy birthday on Instagram, similar to
- 2:24Speaker 2: the way he ignored Tammy's birthday. He did, however, dedicate
- 2:28Speaker 2: a photo dump to his sister's golden retriever puppy. So
- 2:32Speaker 2: he shared five photos of him cuddling up to the
- 2:34Speaker 2: puppy at a local footy game in Melbourne. Now, this
- 2:37Speaker 2: post seemed to anger a lot of Matt's followers, and
- 2:40Speaker 2: it led to them asking what is going on. There
- 2:42Speaker 2: was a user called Megan who asked why he wasn't
- 2:45Speaker 2: on the Gold Coast celebrating his stepson's birthday, to which
- 2:48Speaker 2: he replied these photos were taken four weeks ago. The
- 2:51Speaker 2: woman then said, but you weren't in Tammy's snap or
- 2:53Speaker 2: anything for Wolf's birthday today. And he said, who said
- 2:56Speaker 2: I wasn't Megan? Focus on your own life. Now, Matt
- 3:00Speaker 2: ended up deleting those comments, but Megan had already screenshot
- 3:03Speaker 2: them and ended up uploading the exchange to her own
- 3:06Speaker 2: Instagram story. So on a Reddit thread, she explained that
- 3:09Speaker 2: she tagged as many people as possible. One of those
- 3:12Speaker 2: being Tammy Hembrough, who ended up viewing the story. Now,
- 3:16Speaker 2: it seems like that public pressure caused Matt to then
- 3:19Speaker 2: upload a photo the following day of him and Wolf
- 3:22Speaker 2: sitting next to each other at a cafe with blue
- 3:24Speaker 2: love hearts. It does seem like the photo was an
- 3:27Speaker 2: old one, though, and not from the recent celebrations. Yeah,
- 3:29Speaker 2: I mean, it tricked me because when I saw this
- 3:31Speaker 2: pop up on Sunday, I was like, oh, he must
- 3:33Speaker 2: have been there. But as you say, Kate, I think
- 3:36Speaker 2: it did look like an old photo.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it was one from the archives.
- 3:39Speaker 2: And I just feel so sorry for Wolf in this
- 3:40Speaker 2: situation because as you touched upon, Sophie, Tammy and Matt
- 3:44Speaker 2: were very public about how much Wolf adored Matt when
- 3:47Speaker 2: they first got together. And it was probably so nice
- 3:50Speaker 2: for him to have this father figure around, especially with
- 3:53Speaker 2: his dad living in Bali.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Now, Matt spoke at.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Length on the Inherited podcast this week about what a
- 3:58Speaker 2: blessing and privilege it is to be a stepdad, particularly
- 4:01Speaker 2: considering his struggles with fertility.
- 4:03Speaker 1: We will discuss the full interview later.
- 4:05Speaker 2: On, but when he was asked about what the key
- 4:07Speaker 2: is to being a supportive step-parent, Matt said he liked
- 4:10Speaker 2: to respect boundaries. So he explained he doesn't like to intrude,
- 4:14Speaker 2: but he does jump in when Tammy needs his help.
- 4:16Speaker 3: He then said this, But I keep a friendship with them.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Like me and Wolf are best buds. Like honestly, he's
- 4:22Speaker 3: like a little mini me. Me and him get along.
- 4:24Speaker 3: We watch movies together. I literally, I'll go out or
- 4:28Speaker 3: go to the shops or something. I'll be like, I've
- 4:29Speaker 3: got to go do something. And he'll be like, can
- 4:31Speaker 3: I come? Can I come? And he'll like literally like
- 4:33Speaker 3: run and grab his shoes and me and him will
- 4:34Speaker 3: go like just out to the shops or go get
- 4:36Speaker 3: a coffee.
- 4:38Speaker 2: I have heard that sentiment shared from a lot of
- 4:40Speaker 2: step parents who they don't want to overstep the boundary
- 4:43Speaker 2: and necessarily discipline someone else's kids, particularly when they're a
- 4:46Speaker 2: little bit older. It's nice to see that they clearly
- 4:49Speaker 2: have a strong bond, but again, it makes it even
- 4:51Speaker 2: worse that he wasn't there for Wolf's birthday. I mean,
- 4:54Speaker 2: surely it just proves there's a lot going on behind
- 4:56Speaker 2: the scenes. I mean, the Daily Mail is reporting that
- 4:58Speaker 2: sources close to the couple have confirmed that they have
- 5:01Speaker 2: quietly split with Matt relocating back to Melbourne. So they
- 5:04Speaker 2: quoted a source as saying, Matt and Tammy are on
- 5:06Speaker 2: a break. They're not saying it's over for good. But
- 5:09Speaker 2: for now, they're taking time apart. They're both emotional people
- 5:11Speaker 2: and they've decided to put their marriage on pause for now. Look,
- 5:14Speaker 2: I usually call a bit of bullshit with the Daily
- 5:16Speaker 2: Mail sources, but this feels bang on. Maybe they don't
- 5:21Speaker 2: necessarily have an actual source who said that, but they
- 5:23Speaker 2: have some sort of intel and this is the way
- 5:25Speaker 2: that they're telling this story. Yeah, well, all of this
- 5:27Speaker 2: is coming as Tammy Hembrough continues to appear on her
- 5:29Speaker 2: social media without her engagement rings on. I mean, I've
- 5:32Speaker 2: lost count at how many times Matt and Tammy have
- 5:35Speaker 2: unfollowed each other and refollowed each other. But now Tammy's
- 5:38Speaker 2: best friend has jumped in on the action. So Isabel
- 5:41Speaker 2: Laws also unfollowed Matt over the weekend. Look, I think
- 5:44Speaker 2: Tammy and Matt have made the choice that they're not
- 5:46Speaker 2: going to continue the unfollow, but clearly the friends can
- 5:50Speaker 2: do whatever they want.
- 5:51Speaker 1: And this is a very big statement from one of
- 5:52Speaker 1: her best friends.
- 5:53Speaker 2: I mean, if you look at all their social media behavior,
- 5:56Speaker 2: Matt has not congratulated Tammy on her business. He's not
- 5:58Speaker 2: liked or commented on any of her posts. And with
- 6:01Speaker 2: Matt appearing on the Inherited podcast, again, Tammy didn't pump
- 6:04Speaker 2: that up or say anything about it. He did upload
- 6:07Speaker 2: that weird photo dump, though, last week where she appeared
- 6:10Speaker 2: in a couple of the photos.
- 6:11Speaker 1: They were individual photos of her.
- 6:13Speaker 2: So it's almost like he's trying to say we're still together,
- 6:16Speaker 2: but then we haven't actively seen them in the same
- 6:19Speaker 2: spot for weeks.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I mean, I took one for the team and I
- 6:22Speaker 2: listened to Matt's podcast this week and he couldn't have
- 6:25Speaker 2: made it any more obvious that he's moved back to
- 6:28Speaker 2: Melbourne and The saddest part is I think he and
- 6:30Speaker 2: Anna were trying to get people off the scent, but
- 6:33Speaker 2: they failed miserably. So Matt brought up how he'd received
- 6:36Speaker 2: a bunch of messages off the back about sharing that
- 6:39Speaker 2: he went to the movies by himself. And he referenced
- 6:42Speaker 2: Tammy and her kids saying, oh, I like to go
- 6:44Speaker 2: to the movies with my partner and stepkids, but if
- 6:47Speaker 2: no one's interested in going to a specific movie, I'll
- 6:50Speaker 2: just go by myself.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Well, that must be nice for him.
- 6:53Speaker 2: I mean, Tammy's at home getting the kids to bed,
- 6:55Speaker 2: organizing all of the admin when it comes to them,
- 6:57Speaker 2: and he's.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Out at the movies.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Yeah, well, Anna then went on this spiel about how
- 7:00Speaker 2: she would hate to go to the movies by herself,
- 7:02Speaker 2: but the one thing she does by herself is go
- 7:05Speaker 2: get a coffee and a croissant from her local cafe.
- 7:07Speaker 1: She then dropped this. In fact, you've been in my
- 7:11Speaker 1: area recently quite a lot working.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Yeah, I don't really talk about my work,
- 7:16Speaker 3: do I? So, I've been working for my dad. So,
- 7:18Speaker 3: he obviously has a company down in Melbourne, which I
- 7:21Speaker 3: used to- A pool company. A pool company that I
- 7:22Speaker 3: used to work for. And I was doing a bit
- 7:25Speaker 3: of work while I was up on the Gold Coast
- 7:27Speaker 3: Forum here and there. But he's had some people leave,
- 7:30Speaker 3: some people retire. So, I've come down now to just
- 7:33Speaker 3: be on the ground. It's easy. We found it was
- 7:35Speaker 3: easier that way to go see the clients, go see
- 7:38Speaker 3: the boys on site and all that sort of stuff. So,
- 7:40Speaker 3: I've been down, yeah, helping him out a fair bit. So-
- 7:43Speaker 3: It's good to be back out there.
- 7:44Speaker 1: And aren't they expanding to the GC as well?
- 7:47Speaker 3: Well, yeah, there is talk of that. Definitely looking into that.
- 7:50Speaker 3: I'm just, you know, seeing sussing stuff out, getting contractors,
- 7:54Speaker 3: seeing building licenses and all that sort of stuff. So
- 7:56Speaker 3: we're looking into that, yeah.
- 7:58Speaker 1: I'm so confused.
- 7:59Speaker 2: I thought Matt apparently still worked for his dad's company
- 8:02Speaker 2: on the Gold Coast. So does that mean he left
- 8:05Speaker 2: his job to marry Tammy? Therefore, now that they're seemingly
- 8:08Speaker 2: on a break, he's had to go back to his
- 8:11Speaker 2: job in Melbourne to pay his bills.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Potentially.
- 8:14Speaker 2: I mean, I feel like his dad could find another
- 8:16Speaker 2: contractor to help him with the job that Matt's doing.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I don't think Matt is so indispensable in this role
- 8:20Speaker 2: that they couldn't do his job anywhere else. So he's
- 8:22Speaker 2: got to leave his wife and stepkids in order to
- 8:25Speaker 2: you know, keep everything together in this business. You think
- 8:28Speaker 2: he might reference the fact that, oh, you know, I've
- 8:30Speaker 2: been flying back on the weekends to the Gold Coast
- 8:32Speaker 2: to see Tammy. Like there was no reference of her.
- 8:34Speaker 2: I mean, this pool company in question is called PJ
- 8:37Speaker 2: Pools and it has been in Matt's family for the
- 8:39Speaker 2: last 50 years. So his grandfather started it and his
- 8:42Speaker 2: dad ended up taking it over. Funny enough, Matt has
- 8:45Speaker 2: been working.
- 8:45Speaker 1: At this business for years and years.
- 8:47Speaker 2: He actually appeared on an episode of The Block back
- 8:49Speaker 2: in 2021, assisting a team with their pool.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Oh, I did hear an influencer updates.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Again, I don't know the validity of this, but someone
- 8:57Speaker 2: sent in saying that they continually see Matt, at least
- 9:00Speaker 2: four times a week on a local Melbourne walking track.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I actually seen that floating around TikTok too.
- 9:07Speaker 2: But then even today, he shared him on a walk
- 9:10Speaker 2: with the background looking like Melbourne.
- 9:11Speaker 1: He was incredibly cold.
- 9:12Speaker 2: He had a beanie on. There was like frost coming
- 9:14Speaker 2: out of his mouth. It definitely wasn't the Gold Coast.
- 9:16Speaker 2: And he was talking about how he was doing the
- 9:19Speaker 2: camping out at the MCG with entrepreneurs. And I was like,
- 9:23Speaker 2: you couldn't make it more clear, mate, that you're not
- 9:25Speaker 2: living on the Gold Coast. Yeah, I mean, I think
- 9:27Speaker 2: Anna was trying really hard to help push this narrative
- 9:29Speaker 2: that he and Tammy were still together, like saying, well,
- 9:32Speaker 2: aren't they expanding to the Gold Coast?
- 9:33Speaker 1: But Matt couldn't even take the bait.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Yeah, she's clearly trying to desperately help him out. Now,
- 9:38Speaker 2: we have to talk about the Inherited podcast because, as
- 9:40Speaker 2: you touched on, Kate, Matt appeared on it this week
- 9:43Speaker 2: and there was a lot of surprise. that Shameless would
- 9:46Speaker 2: platform someone like him because the episodes are known for
- 9:49Speaker 2: being quite deep discussions with very well-known Australians. There was
- 9:53Speaker 2: a bit of backlash there. I mean, it was the
- 9:55Speaker 2: shortest episode that they've ever had. So it ran for
- 9:58Speaker 2: 37 minutes. They usually run for around, 50 minutes to
- 10:01Speaker 2: over an hour. I felt so bad for their host,
- 10:03Speaker 2: Ruby Hall, because she was having to work in overdrive
- 10:07Speaker 2: to extract anything from Matt. So she would ask a
- 10:10Speaker 2: question and it almost come back at her with like
- 10:12Speaker 2: a yes, no response or something very short that didn't
- 10:15Speaker 2: lead on to anything. Like that is A interviewer's worst nightmare.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Yeah, she really earned her paycheck after that interview.
- 10:23Speaker 2: I mean, clearly the majority of the interview was always
- 10:25Speaker 2: going to be about Matt's relationship with Tammy, but there
- 10:27Speaker 2: were a few interesting tidbits about what Matt was doing
- 10:30Speaker 2: before his appearance on Love Island. So he spoke about
- 10:33Speaker 2: how he did some catwalk modelling for five years and
- 10:36Speaker 2: apparently he modelled in London and Milan.
- 10:39Speaker 1: After that, he became a wrestler. This was my favourite
- 10:42Speaker 1: part of the chat. So his stage name.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Was Charlie Matthews and he was known, according to Matt,
- 10:48Speaker 2: as the guy who won the genetic lottery. You could
- 10:50Speaker 2: tell Ruby was like, what the fuck?
- 10:52Speaker 1: Is this guy serious?
- 10:53Speaker 2: She said something like, I'm not familiar with that character
- 10:55Speaker 2: because I think she thought it was a well-known character,
- 10:57Speaker 2: not something that he's just come up with himself. Because
- 10:59Speaker 2: he was talking about it as if she should know who.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Charlie Matthews was. I mean, it's an amateur wrestling thing.
- 11:05Speaker 1: It wasn't like a big deal.
- 11:07Speaker 2: And he spoke about how part of his role was
- 11:10Speaker 2: to act really arrogant whilst he was going out onto
- 11:13Speaker 2: the boxing arena and how he would flick his hair.
- 11:17Speaker 1: To hit the other boxers. It was fucking hilarious. I
- 11:21Speaker 1: would pay good money to see some of this wrestling.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Well, someone in our Facebook community has shared that Charlie
- 11:26Speaker 2: Matthews has his own Instagram account. So there's some vision
- 11:29Speaker 2: and photos on there. How many followers has he got?
- 11:31Speaker 2: I think it was like 2000. Look good on him.
- 11:34Speaker 2: It would take a lot of confidence to get out there,
- 11:35Speaker 2: but this just makes me feel like he is very
- 11:37Speaker 2: much into, being famous, getting his name out there, trying
- 11:41Speaker 2: to attract attention.
- 11:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Well, on the topic of fame, Matt spoke about how
- 11:45Speaker 2: he regularly goes to therapy to deal with the intense
- 11:48Speaker 2: public scrutiny. And when asked if there was a time
- 11:51Speaker 2: that the pressure of media noise had gotten too much
- 11:53Speaker 2: for him, he said this.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Yes, quite recently coming up to what was meant to
- 11:58Speaker 3: be the most, well, it was the best moment of
- 12:01Speaker 3: my life, the best day of my life. A lot
- 12:02Speaker 3: of people wanted to take it down. And it hurt
- 12:05Speaker 3: people that didn't know me for one. And then people
- 12:07Speaker 3: that did, who were just out for revenge and wanted
- 12:09Speaker 3: to be evil. It just hurt. It sucked to see that.
- 12:13Speaker 3: I thought people were better than that. And it was
- 12:15Speaker 3: disappointing to see.
- 12:17Speaker 2: He was really throwing some serious shade at his ex
- 12:19Speaker 2: Jen there. And what he's referring to is that a
- 12:21Speaker 2: couple of weeks before his wedding, Jen seemed to give
- 12:24Speaker 2: some information to so dramatic. So Megan Passetto had this
- 12:27Speaker 2: series of podcasts where she was really diving into how
- 12:31Speaker 2: there seemed to be some crossover when he first started
- 12:33Speaker 2: dating Tammy and potentially he had.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Apparently slept with Jen. Yeah, well, it clearly affected him
- 12:38Speaker 1: leading into his wedding. Matt really did praise Tammy for
- 12:41Speaker 1: the way she can block these sorts of things out
- 12:44Speaker 1: in the media scrutiny.
- 12:45Speaker 2: What also didn't help in the lead up to their
- 12:47Speaker 2: wedding was that I feel like it was a month
- 12:48Speaker 2: or so before they unfollowed each other on Instagram again.
- 12:51Speaker 2: That was, I think, a couple of days before their
- 12:53Speaker 2: joint party. So they really weren't doing themselves any favors.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Definitely not.
- 12:57Speaker 2: I mean, it seems like there is a clash between
- 13:00Speaker 2: Matt and Tammy on the way that they like to
- 13:02Speaker 2: address things. So Matt said people in his camp have
- 13:05Speaker 2: advised him not to address things, but he said it
- 13:07Speaker 2: gets to a point where sometimes he just wants to
- 13:10Speaker 2: shut things down and tell the truth.
- 13:12Speaker 1: I can see that.
- 13:13Speaker 2: It would be very frustrating, particularly because he is always
- 13:16Speaker 2: made to look like the bad guy. I mean, it
- 13:17Speaker 2: just made me think about that episode he did on
- 13:20Speaker 2: his podcast where he tackled those Grand Prix cheating allegations
- 13:24Speaker 2: head first, but it just made him look really bad
- 13:26Speaker 2: because he and Anna, I know they've got a podcast
- 13:29Speaker 2: and they've had.
- 13:29Speaker 1: It for many years, but they are not media trained.
- 13:32Speaker 2: No, I mean, it was also interesting to hear him
- 13:34Speaker 2: discuss on Inherited how he and Anna quite often clash
- 13:38Speaker 2: heads and how they've had arguments in the podcast studio,
- 13:40Speaker 2: which I mean, is refreshing.
- 13:41Speaker 1: We argue all the time, but it was interesting. I
- 13:44Speaker 1: wonder if he is a bit.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Hotheaded when it comes to his relationships with people and
- 13:48Speaker 2: his way of dealing with it is perhaps having a
- 13:50Speaker 2: shouting match. Well, what I got from that is that
- 13:52Speaker 2: Anna McEnvoy is the brains behind the operation and she
- 13:55Speaker 2: wants to get into media and wants the podcast.
- 13:59Speaker 1: To be better.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Well, it's interesting because she does now have her own
- 14:03Speaker 2: spinoff podcast about motherhood, which he clearly is not involved
- 14:07Speaker 2: in because yeah, he was saying that She's always wanting
- 14:09Speaker 2: to plan out the episodes and know what they're talking about.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Whereas he just preferred to rock up and do it
- 14:14Speaker 2: off the cuff. I mean, it seems like Matt has
- 14:17Speaker 2: also gone down a Reddit rabbit hole recently. So he
- 14:20Speaker 2: spoke about how toxic anonymous forums are about him and Tammy.
- 14:23Speaker 1: This is what he said.
- 14:25Speaker 3: And it's just like, how are you over people that
- 14:28Speaker 3: you don't know? So bitter and so angry. And just
- 14:32Speaker 3: want to like, And to be frank, like they're fans.
- 14:35Speaker 3: They're like full fans. Like they're taking our content from
- 14:38Speaker 3: different platforms and posting about it and making theories about
- 14:41Speaker 3: it and going on their own like spirals. And it's
- 14:43Speaker 3: just nuts to see when I get it sent to me.
- 14:45Speaker 3: I'm like, what the fuck?
- 14:47Speaker 1: I mean, he does have a bit of a point there.
- 14:49Speaker 2: I'm not a fan of these toxic threads and faceless communities.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Who just go to town on people.
- 14:55Speaker 2: And you would feel as though if these people are
- 14:57Speaker 2: that invested in your life, that they are a bit
- 15:00Speaker 2: of a fan.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I mean, but they keep giving them material to talk about.
- 15:03Speaker 1: That's what I don't get.
- 15:04Speaker 2: It's like, okay, have your fights privately, but don't go
- 15:06Speaker 2: and unfollow each other and do these things and make
- 15:09Speaker 2: it really obvious that you're not at special occasions. But
- 15:12Speaker 2: it's when people take it too far. I've seen some
- 15:15Speaker 2: awful threads commenting on his body. I've seen screenshots of
- 15:19Speaker 2: people taking photos of him in the pool and commenting
- 15:21Speaker 2: on his physique, which Would be tough for anyone. I mean,
- 15:24Speaker 2: I think we think, oh, men aren't affected by these comments,
- 15:26Speaker 2: but they definitely are.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I mean, it's unusual that men's bodies are being commented on, really.
- 15:30Speaker 1: I mean, it is.
- 15:31Speaker 2: But again, that's a lot of the conversation that I've
- 15:33Speaker 2: seen people saying, oh, he's not very good looking.
- 15:35Speaker 1: I mean, he was on Love Island. He's obviously a
- 15:37Speaker 1: good looking guy.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Well, he plays a wrestler that won the genetic lotto.
- 15:40Speaker 2: So he obviously is good looking. Now, Matt also spoke
- 15:43Speaker 2: about the early stages of his relationship with Tammy, and
- 15:46Speaker 2: he seemed quite reluctant to give a real timeline on
- 15:49Speaker 2: those early moments, claiming he didn't know the exact times.
- 15:52Speaker 2: And when asked if he and Tammy had discussed marriage
- 15:54Speaker 2: before he proposed three months into the relationship, Matt said this.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Yes, we spoke about marriage.
- 16:01Speaker 4: Yes.
- 16:01Speaker 3: We were planning on eloping. And I just thought to myself, okay,
- 16:07Speaker 3: I came back to Melbourne to do something. And I
- 16:09Speaker 3: spoke to Anna and I told her, she was one
- 16:11Speaker 3: of the people I told. We had a date booked
- 16:13Speaker 3: in at the courthouse. And she said, well, you know,
- 16:16Speaker 3: you're going to the Maldives in like four days. Why
- 16:18Speaker 3: don't you do something there? So my idea was originally
- 16:21Speaker 3: to get like a promise ring and be like, look,
- 16:24Speaker 3: I understand we're not doing it traditional, but then I
- 16:27Speaker 3: saw a ring there and it was gorgeous and I
- 16:29Speaker 3: fell in love with it. And I was like, okay.
- 16:31Speaker 3: So I got an engagement ring for her.
- 16:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:34Speaker 3: And then did the proposal. Organized it quickly with the
- 16:37Speaker 3: people at the Maldives. I said, look, I'm planning on proposing.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Can you organize like a thing for me and organize
- 16:42Speaker 3: a dinner, yeah? Yeah.
- 16:43Speaker 1: It's a dinner, yeah. Am I the only one that
- 16:46Speaker 1: was super confused by that?
- 16:47Speaker 2: Because reading between the lines, what I think happened is
- 16:49Speaker 2: that they planned to elope to the Maldives and then
- 16:52Speaker 2: make it legal at the registry office upon their return. No,
- 16:55Speaker 2: I mean, I feel like I've got a PhD on
- 16:57Speaker 2: this topic at the moment. I feel like I've listened
- 16:59Speaker 2: to way too many podcasts about this. But I think
- 17:01Speaker 2: what he was saying is that they initially planned to
- 17:04Speaker 2: elope and to get married at a courthouse. Her sisters
- 17:08Speaker 2: then got involved and told them that it was a
- 17:10Speaker 2: terrible idea. So then he thought, well, I'm going to
- 17:13Speaker 2: the Maldives. I'm just going to propose anyway. It's so
- 17:16Speaker 2: weird though, because then they'd already discussed marriage. So the
- 17:19Speaker 2: proposal was just fake. Well, the proposal was, I think,
- 17:23Speaker 2: the sister's way of making them have at least a
- 17:25Speaker 2: year leading up to it. So it gave them room
- 17:27Speaker 2: to get to know each other a bit more. I mean,
- 17:29Speaker 2: it's just looking more and more like this whole thing
- 17:31Speaker 2: was staged.
- 17:33Speaker 1: I don't think it's that it was staged.
- 17:35Speaker 2: I just think that they are both impulsive people who
- 17:38Speaker 2: had these conversations and it was a bit of a
- 17:40Speaker 2: fuck you to everyone else who doesn't think our relationship
- 17:44Speaker 2: is serious.
- 17:45Speaker 1: I cringed so hard when Ruby asked, what was it
- 17:48Speaker 1: that made you first fall in love with Tammy or
- 17:50Speaker 1: was it love at first sight?
- 17:51Speaker 2: And he said, well, look at her. She's incredibly hot.
- 17:54Speaker 2: And then it was backed up by the fact that
- 17:56Speaker 2: she also liked movies.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Horror movies.
- 17:59Speaker 2: He's such a movie buff. He seems like a 12
- 18:01Speaker 2: year old kid. I mean, he is reading Goosebumps. I
- 18:04Speaker 2: don't want to go hard on him at reading Goosebumps
- 18:06Speaker 2: because on an episode of their podcast, Anna McEnvoy was
- 18:09Speaker 2: saying how sorry she felt for Matt that everyone was
- 18:11Speaker 2: having a go at him about reading Goosebumps because good
- 18:14Speaker 2: on him for trying to read. So you can see
- 18:16Speaker 2: where she's coming from. I mean, this is a real
- 18:17Speaker 2: person at the end of the day. I think it's
- 18:19Speaker 2: just hard because he comes across as such a character.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Like he seems like this quintessential himbo, particularly with the wrestling.
- 18:25Speaker 1: But when I listen to him on podcasts, I don't
- 18:29Speaker 1: hate him. Like he seems sort of sweet. He just
- 18:31Speaker 1: seems like this.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Again, golden retriever energy, this puppy dog who doesn't seem
- 18:35Speaker 2: to know any better, which is sort of like, it's
- 18:38Speaker 2: not alluring, but it's sort of like sweet.
- 18:41Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like I feel a bit
- 18:42Speaker 1: sorry for him.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like they need to take a microphone off
- 18:46Speaker 2: him because he just doesn't know what he's saying. Like
- 18:48Speaker 2: I don't think he's a bad person. Like he is
- 18:50Speaker 2: quite entertaining on podcasts. He says it how it is,
- 18:53Speaker 2: but I don't necessarily think it makes him a particularly
- 18:56Speaker 2: good partner, particularly for someone who's got three small kids.
- 19:00Speaker 1: I think Tammy needs someone who's a bit more mature.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it's probably not the right match to take on
- 19:04Speaker 2: three stepchildren. Now, as we predicted, Matt spoke about his
- 19:08Speaker 2: fertility and it's not the first time he has, but
- 19:10Speaker 2: for those who are yet to hear and speak on
- 19:12Speaker 2: the topic, he confirmed he is unable to naturally conceive
- 19:15Speaker 2: as he has no sperm. He is hopeful a surgery
- 19:18Speaker 2: may be able to help the situation, but the result
- 19:20Speaker 2: is unknown until he undergoes it. Again, this was a
- 19:23Speaker 2: section of the podcast where I felt slightly sorry for
- 19:26Speaker 2: Ruby because she I had a bit of a giggle
- 19:28Speaker 2: because it is a serious topic, but Matt said something about,
- 19:31Speaker 2: oh yeah, I've got no swimmers. And it was just
- 19:33Speaker 2: said in such a comical way that it was almost
- 19:34Speaker 2: a way that you'd share it with another man, not
- 19:36Speaker 2: necessarily a young girl who's interviewing you.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:39Speaker 2: I think in that moment, he didn't know quite how
- 19:41Speaker 2: to articulate himself. I do want to give him a
- 19:43Speaker 2: lot of praise though, because it's not something we hear
- 19:45Speaker 2: men talk about and he was very open about it.
- 19:48Speaker 2: So I think hats off to him on that regard.
- 19:52Speaker 5: Don't want to feel like I've let anyone down, which
- 19:55Speaker 5: is so silly because it's not about anyone else.
- 19:58Speaker 4: It's just about us.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Georgia Love has tearfully opened up for the first time
- 20:04Speaker 2: about her split from husband, Lee Elliot. The former bachelorette
- 20:07Speaker 2: admitted it feels weird calling him her ex-husband and spoke
- 20:10Speaker 2: candidly about the impact her 2021 cancellation had not only
- 20:15Speaker 2: on her marriage, but her mental health. So if this
- 20:17Speaker 2: interview comes two months after the couple announced their separation.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Yeah, it was back in early March.
- 20:22Speaker 2: So a couple of days before their upcoming fourth wedding
- 20:24Speaker 2: anniversary when Georgia and Lee confirmed the news. And there
- 20:28Speaker 2: had been growing speculation for quite some time that a
- 20:30Speaker 2: breakup announcement was on the cards. They hadn't been seen
- 20:34Speaker 2: publicly together for four months.
- 20:35Speaker 1: And they weren't wearing their wedding bands. Also, Georgia was on.
- 20:39Speaker 2: A solo trip in New York over Christmas. So everyone
- 20:43Speaker 2: felt like something was going on in the background. Yeah,
- 20:46Speaker 2: it was like we were just waiting for this statement
- 20:48Speaker 2: to drop. And they did confirm it in a joint statement.
- 20:51Speaker 2: shared on their Instagram story, reiterating that there was no
- 20:54Speaker 2: drama or bad blood and that they had simply grown
- 20:57Speaker 2: in different directions. There was a big emphasis put on
- 21:00Speaker 2: the fact that they would be remaining friends and had
- 21:02Speaker 2: a lot of respect for one another. I mean, we
- 21:05Speaker 2: see this a lot in statements put out by couples. Yeah,
- 21:08Speaker 2: it is sort of the go-to line now. There was
- 21:11Speaker 2: a lot of sadness around this announcement because they were
- 21:14Speaker 2: one of The Bachelor's biggest success stories and they.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Seem like such a solid couple.
- 21:19Speaker 2: There were a lot of theories floating around at the
- 21:21Speaker 2: time about what actually caused the split. I know we
- 21:23Speaker 2: had a lot of people sliding into our DM saying
- 21:26Speaker 2: it was X, Y, and Z that caused the breakdown.
- 21:29Speaker 2: I mean, no one knows what happens behind closed doors.
- 21:31Speaker 2: I mean, one thing that is clear is that everyone
- 21:33Speaker 2: felt like they had this vested interest in the couple
- 21:36Speaker 2: because we've watched their love story unfold online.
- 21:39Speaker 1: And when it ends, you feel like you deserve to
- 21:41Speaker 1: know what happened.
- 21:42Speaker 2: I think also because they appeared so solid and have
- 21:44Speaker 2: the perfect relationship. People then assume that something drastic has
- 21:48Speaker 2: happened in order for that split to happen. And we
- 21:50Speaker 2: haven't really heard either party really open up about the separation.
- 21:54Speaker 1: And how they're feeling until now.
- 21:55Speaker 2: I mean, we have seen from Lee over the past
- 21:58Speaker 2: couple of weeks some thirst traps.
- 22:00Speaker 1: I mean, we're not complaining about the photos that he's
- 22:02Speaker 1: been uploading. He's been renovating his deck. A big deck, actually, Kate. Yeah,
- 22:07Speaker 1: and there's a lot of deck stuff.
- 22:08Speaker 5: Puns.
- 22:09Speaker 1: I mean, he's known to like puns.
- 22:11Speaker 2: He and Georgia Love used to do a lot of
- 22:12Speaker 2: puns on the Instagram stories together.
- 22:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:14Speaker 2: And I mean, I don't think anyone's complaining that he's
- 22:16Speaker 2: been getting his shirt off in the photos, but it
- 22:18Speaker 2: seems like it's a bit of a thirst trap for
- 22:20Speaker 2: some new ladies out there.
- 22:21Speaker 1: That's the impression that I'm getting.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:23Speaker 1: It didn't thrill me and I wouldn't have been happy
- 22:25Speaker 1: if I was Georgia.
- 22:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:27Speaker 2: And those photos have led me to think, what is
- 22:29Speaker 2: actually going on behind the scenes? This would be very
- 22:31Speaker 2: difficult if you were Georgia seeing these posts. And she
- 22:34Speaker 2: chose to open up for the first time about her
- 22:36Speaker 2: separation on Mama Mia's No Filter, where she spoke to
- 22:39Speaker 2: Kate Langbrook. And I really think that this was the
- 22:42Speaker 2: perfect platform for her to open up on, particularly because
- 22:46Speaker 2: Kate was just so.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Warm and sensitive during this interview.
- 22:49Speaker 2: I love Kate Langbrook. She is just like a big,
- 22:52Speaker 2: warm hug. And when you listen, I mean, I cried
- 22:54Speaker 2: several times during this interview. I just loved how patient
- 22:57Speaker 2: she was with Georgia. She wasn't pushing too much to
- 23:00Speaker 2: get anything out. And that's why I think we got
- 23:02Speaker 2: so much from her. Yeah. She seemed to have this
- 23:04Speaker 2: genuine care for Georgia, almost like a motherly figure. It's
- 23:08Speaker 2: also interesting to note that Georgia works for Mamma Mia.
- 23:11Speaker 2: She has had a podcast on the network for a
- 23:13Speaker 2: couple of years now called Everyone Has an Ex.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I didn't realize that was a Mamma Mia podcast.
- 23:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:17Speaker 1: So she probably also.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Felt confident that the interview would be respectful and they
- 23:21Speaker 2: wouldn't cross any lines or throw in any rogue questions.
- 23:24Speaker 2: I mean, I did feel awkward the segue initially when
- 23:27Speaker 2: Kate said, I mean, you've got a podcast called Everyone
- 23:30Speaker 2: Has an Ex and You Have an Ex.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I was like, oh, but then after it was dealt
- 23:34Speaker 1: with such sensitivity.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Yeah, well, it was that comment that led Georgia to
- 23:37Speaker 2: kind of be at a loss to what she refers
- 23:39Speaker 2: to Leigh as.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Let's have a listen to what she said.
- 23:42Speaker 6: When did you start to realize that you and Leigh
- 23:45Speaker 6: were beautiful husband, ex-husband.
- 23:48Speaker 4: Ex-husband? Well, not yet, really. I don't know. I don't
- 23:51Speaker 4: know what to... You're still in that muddy period. We are, yeah.
- 23:54Speaker 5: We've agreed to separate, but we're, yeah, there's certainly no
- 23:59Speaker 5: paperwork or anything done.
- 24:00Speaker 4: All that takes a long time anyway. Oh, that's terrible.
- 24:03Speaker 5: I feel very weird calling him my ex-husband. He doesn't
- 24:06Speaker 5: feel like that.
- 24:08Speaker 2: This made me feel as though maybe this separation isn't final. Oh,
- 24:12Speaker 2: me too.
- 24:12Speaker 1: I was like, is this opening the door for some
- 24:14Speaker 1: sort of reconciliation?
- 24:15Speaker 2: Yeah, because she made a point of saying that they're
- 24:17Speaker 2: still very much ingrained in each other's lives and she
- 24:20Speaker 2: is never going to look back at their relationship as
- 24:22Speaker 2: something she completely moves on from. I mean, either it's
- 24:26Speaker 2: the fact that maybe she's leaving the door open or
- 24:28Speaker 2: potentially it's so fresh that she just.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Isn't able to even move on at this point.
- 24:33Speaker 2: It made me wonder if it was Lee that was
- 24:36Speaker 2: pushing the end of the relationship. I mean, they said
- 24:38Speaker 2: it was mutual, but it did seem like she wanted
- 24:42Speaker 2: to be back with him.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Well, she spoke very wistfully about the relationship and said
- 24:46Speaker 2: that they had this beautiful life together and it feels
- 24:49Speaker 2: like she's not really ready to close the door yet
- 24:51Speaker 2: on it. I enjoyed listening to Georgia speak on this
- 24:55Speaker 2: podcast because I actually don't listen to her.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Everyone has an ex podcast. I only see her on
- 25:00Speaker 1: social media. Which isn't the best platform for her, I
- 25:02Speaker 1: don't think. No, I think this was a way better
- 25:05Speaker 1: platform for her. And it reminded me of why I
- 25:08Speaker 1: liked her so much when she was on The Bachelor. Yeah,
- 25:10Speaker 1: because unfortunately, I mean, she's the same age as us.
- 25:13Speaker 1: We're millennials. And I think she has.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Looked at platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels and thought, okay,
- 25:19Speaker 2: I've got to jump on some of these trends.
- 25:20Speaker 1: I've got to do comedic videos. And I don't think
- 25:23Speaker 1: that they're the best fit for her. They're not landing.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Well, yeah, they're not landing. They can be taken out
- 25:27Speaker 2: of context. And I don't think it's the true essence
- 25:29Speaker 2: of who she is as a person. She's very intelligent.
- 25:32Speaker 1: That's what I took from this whole interview.
- 25:35Speaker 2: And it was very clear that she had the intelligence
- 25:37Speaker 2: to understand this intimacy that the public feel like they
- 25:40Speaker 2: have with her and Lee because everyone watched her fall
- 25:43Speaker 2: in love on TV. And she said that she understands
- 25:46Speaker 2: this sense of entitlement that the public have because they've
- 25:49Speaker 2: been very invested in her nine-year love story. And what
- 25:53Speaker 2: really seemed to weigh heavy on her during this interview
- 25:55Speaker 2: and something that I didn't even consider was Was this
- 25:58Speaker 2: sense that she had let the public down due to
- 26:01Speaker 2: this separation?
- 26:02Speaker 1: Here's what she said.
- 26:03Speaker 4: And I understand that.
- 26:06Speaker 5: So that's been a big part of what has been
- 26:09Speaker 5: difficult about making the public announcement that we have decided
- 26:15Speaker 5: to separate because I don't want to feel.
- 26:19Speaker 4: Like I've let anyone down, which.
- 26:21Speaker 5: Is so silly because it's not about anyone else. It's
- 26:24Speaker 5: just about us. But people have been so wonderful following
- 26:30Speaker 5: our story along since the start. And I feel sorry
- 26:35Speaker 5: I'm getting teary about this because it's so silly because
- 26:37Speaker 5: it's not.
- 26:37Speaker 4: About anyone else. But so many people.
- 26:40Speaker 5: Say often that they look at our relationship and feel
- 26:45Speaker 5: like that gives them hope.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Yes.
- 26:47Speaker 5: That they'll find their person. And I really, yeah, I've
- 26:51Speaker 5: been very sad about feeling like I've let people down
- 26:55Speaker 5: or we've let people down.
- 26:57Speaker 4: Very much believe in love. We have not fallen out
- 27:01Speaker 4: of love.
- 27:01Speaker 5: There has always been deep love there, but I don't
- 27:05Speaker 5: want people to be disappointed.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Listening to this, I just thought it's clear that she's
- 27:11Speaker 2: a perfectionist, that she doesn't want to ever disappoint everyone.
- 27:14Speaker 1: She's an A grade student, She's always done well at
- 27:17Speaker 1: her career.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Well, I think what hurt is that she was not
- 27:20Speaker 2: only breaking the illusion for other people.
- 27:22Speaker 1: But for herself.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Because it would be hard admitting that whilst your relationship
- 27:27Speaker 2: looked really perfect online, that you were struggling and there
- 27:31Speaker 2: were things going on behind the scenes. It's almost like
- 27:33Speaker 2: you're dropping this mask and it would feel very exposing.
- 27:36Speaker 2: I know we spoke in our podcast a little bit
- 27:38Speaker 2: towards the end of last year about whether Georgia and
- 27:41Speaker 2: Lee were together. And it made me feel bad when
- 27:43Speaker 2: I heard Georgia talk about the toll the public scrutiny
- 27:46Speaker 2: took on her. In saying that, though, she said she
- 27:48Speaker 2: understood it because she's a journalist. Yeah, and she also
- 27:52Speaker 2: spoke about how tough it was to actually decide when
- 27:55Speaker 2: to go public with the news of their separation.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Here's what she said.
- 28:00Speaker 5: With Lee and I separating, one of the hardest parts
- 28:04Speaker 5: of that has been choosing to enter into a period
- 28:10Speaker 5: of loss and grief again.
- 28:11Speaker 4: Right.
- 28:12Speaker 5: Because I'm so tired. And it was very, very hard
- 28:19Speaker 5: at the end of last year. There was a lot
- 28:20Speaker 5: of speculation around whether we had split. You know, we
- 28:24Speaker 5: were being followed a bit to see if we were
- 28:27Speaker 5: seen together.
- 28:28Speaker 4: Or whether we were wearing our wedding rings or anything.
- 28:31Speaker 5: And I understand that that's part of being in the
- 28:34Speaker 5: public eye, especially because we met in a public way.
- 28:37Speaker 3: Yes.
- 28:37Speaker 5: I do understand that. So I don't begrudge that. But
- 28:41Speaker 5: it was very, very hard while I was trying to
- 28:43Speaker 5: come to terms with what was happening because Lee and
- 28:48Speaker 5: I have made this decision together. Doesn't mean it makes
- 28:51Speaker 5: me happy.
- 28:52Speaker 4: It doesn't. I'm really, really sad about it.
- 28:55Speaker 5: And trying to process that myself.
- 29:01Speaker 4: Was hard enough.
- 29:03Speaker 5: Deciding to or knowing when was the right time to
- 29:07Speaker 5: Put it out there publicly, which no one should have to,
- 29:12Speaker 5: and no, we didn't have to, but we felt like
- 29:14Speaker 5: that was the right thing to do.
- 29:16Speaker 4: But that's not a reason to stay in something either.
- 29:22Speaker 2: It was really hard to hear her breaking down so
- 29:24Speaker 2: many times during this interview, but I think that a
- 29:26Speaker 2: lot of people going through the same thing would take
- 29:29Speaker 2: a lot from it. One thing that I wasn't aware
- 29:33Speaker 2: of was just how quickly Georgia lost her mum following
- 29:36Speaker 2: the airing of The Bachelorette. So her mum, Belinda... sadly
- 29:40Speaker 2: passed away from pancreatic cancer a day after The Bachelor
- 29:44Speaker 2: finale aired. I just can't even comprehend how difficult that
- 29:48Speaker 2: would have been for her because She spoke about the
- 29:50Speaker 2: fact that that year she had the highest of highs
- 29:53Speaker 2: and the lowest of lows. When she said it, the
- 29:55Speaker 2: timing did ring a bell. I remember it was quite
- 29:57Speaker 2: close to the finale and they actually had to cut
- 29:59Speaker 2: her press tour short. So normally The Bachelorette and her
- 30:02Speaker 2: partner would do this big press tour and talk to
- 30:04Speaker 2: every radio station. But thankfully, she didn't have to do
- 30:07Speaker 2: that while.
- 30:08Speaker 1: She was grieving. It was clear that it was really.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Special for Georgia that Leigh got the opportunity to meet
- 30:13Speaker 2: her mum before she passed away. But what I found
- 30:16Speaker 2: really interesting was the fact that He first met her
- 30:19Speaker 2: extended friends and family.
- 30:20Speaker 1: At her mum's funeral.
- 30:22Speaker 2: And I think that just demonstrated what a special person
- 30:24Speaker 2: Lee is, that this was the start of their relationship
- 30:27Speaker 2: and he was able to support Georgia through this unimaginable
- 30:30Speaker 2: grief that she was going through. And during the interview,
- 30:33Speaker 2: she came to this realisation that Lee has always been
- 30:37Speaker 2: by her side during those really difficult times.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Here's what she said.
- 30:42Speaker 5: I've never had to go through a really hard period
- 30:44Speaker 5: without him.
- 30:45Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 30:48Speaker 4: Which I probably never thought about that really until just then.
- 30:52Speaker 2: I haven't.
- 30:52Speaker 5: The first bad thing that ever happened to me was
- 30:54Speaker 5: losing my mum.
- 30:57Speaker 4: Give me a hand. Oh, my darling. Yeah, and I
- 31:03Speaker 4: think that's a really hard part of this as well.
- 31:05Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 31:06Speaker 4: We are helping each other through it as much as
- 31:08Speaker 4: we can.
- 31:09Speaker 5: But realistically there's obviously parts that we can't either deal.
- 31:17Speaker 4: Yeah, it's hard. I've just never, I never expected to
- 31:20Speaker 4: be here.
- 31:21Speaker 2: I actually cried during that bit and then again when
- 31:25Speaker 2: Georgia was speaking about how difficult it is going through
- 31:28Speaker 2: the separation without her mum and just wishing that her
- 31:31Speaker 2: mum was there, this is what she said.
- 31:35Speaker 5: One thing I really have grappled with and that's been
- 31:40Speaker 5: very difficult.
- 31:41Speaker 4: For me is the fact that Liam met mum. She
- 31:46Speaker 4: was very, very sick when he did.
- 31:49Speaker 1: But she knew him.
- 31:50Speaker 5: Yeah, she died knowing I was with him.
- 31:54Speaker 4: But I feel sad that she.
- 32:01Speaker 5: Thought my life was going one way and that path
- 32:05Speaker 5: has changed.
- 32:08Speaker 2: I think it's so easy to go on social media
- 32:10Speaker 2: and dehumanize people and forget that they are real people
- 32:14Speaker 2: that go through things. And you look at Georgia Love
- 32:16Speaker 2: and the nine years that she has been in the spotlight,
- 32:19Speaker 2: she's had, as she said, the highest of highs, but
- 32:21Speaker 2: also the lowest of lows. I mean, losing her mum
- 32:24Speaker 2: and now going through a marriage breakdown publicly and.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Also her cancellation. I want to talk about that.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Well, Kate Langbrook made a point of saying at the
- 32:32Speaker 2: start of this episode that listeners would fall in love
- 32:34Speaker 2: with Georgia Love. And I think that this interview has
- 32:37Speaker 2: really given her the redemption arc that she needed because
- 32:41Speaker 2: when she first appeared on The Bachelorette, she was incredibly popular.
- 32:44Speaker 2: I think she was seen as being Australia's sweetheart, essentially.
- 32:47Speaker 2: I mean, it was a great series. You had Maddie
- 32:49Speaker 2: J who was runner up. Obviously, Lee won the show.
- 32:52Speaker 2: It was the golden time for The Bachelor and Bachelorette. Yeah,
- 32:55Speaker 2: it was such a feel good show. But then fast
- 32:58Speaker 2: forward a couple of years in 2021, one Instagram story
- 33:02Speaker 2: changed the perception that many people had of Georgia. So
- 33:05Speaker 2: while she was working as a reporter at Channel 7
- 33:07Speaker 2: in Melbourne, she posted a video of a cat sitting
- 33:10Speaker 2: in the window of a Chinese restaurant and wrote shop
- 33:13Speaker 2: attendant or lunch alongside some crying face emojis. And instantly,
- 33:18Speaker 2: Georgia's post was widely condemned and slammed as being racist.
- 33:21Speaker 2: I remember seeing the story and being like, did she
- 33:23Speaker 2: mean to post that on close friends or was this
- 33:26Speaker 2: a private message that has gone live to her story?
- 33:29Speaker 1: It was just unbelievable.
- 33:30Speaker 2: And at the time, anti-Asian hate campaigner Alyssa Ho said,
- 33:34Speaker 2: described Georgia's actions as reckless. She said, it makes me
- 33:37Speaker 2: sick just as much as it makes me genuinely sad
- 33:40Speaker 2: to think people like her can so openly share things
- 33:42Speaker 2: that completely disregard the harm they cause to the Asian community. Now,
- 33:47Speaker 2: Georgia did immediately apologize for the offense that she caused
- 33:50Speaker 2: and thanked her followers for calling her out and said
- 33:53Speaker 2: that she would learn from this and do better. Now,
- 33:56Speaker 2: as a result of the post and the backlash, Georgia
- 33:58Speaker 2: actually ended up losing her job at Channel 7.
- 34:01Speaker 1: I didn't realise that.
- 34:02Speaker 4: No, I didn't either.
- 34:03Speaker 2: I was quite surprised when I heard her talking about
- 34:05Speaker 2: it because I think a lot of people were calling
- 34:07Speaker 2: out Channel 7 saying that she needed to be fired,
- 34:09Speaker 2: but I didn't know she actually did get fired.
- 34:11Speaker 5: I hate the term cancelled, but that's the term that
- 34:15Speaker 5: people use. A few years ago when I lost my
- 34:18Speaker 5: job after that.
- 34:20Speaker 6: Was this in 2021?
- 34:22Speaker 4: Yes.
- 34:23Speaker 6: Was this the cat picture, the cat in the restaurant?
- 34:26Speaker 6: This is so crazy to even say that as a sentence.
- 34:31Speaker 6: But that led to you losing your job.
- 34:33Speaker 4: Yeah, it did.
- 34:34Speaker 5: I posted something on Instagram that I didn't realise on
- 34:38Speaker 5: posting that would or could be taken as offensive. I
- 34:42Speaker 5: was immediately called out on that and told that it
- 34:45Speaker 5: was and was mortified, immediately took it down and apologised.
- 34:49Speaker 4: But I had upset and offended a lot of people
- 34:53Speaker 4: in that.
- 34:54Speaker 2: It is interesting to reflect on the timing of that incident.
- 34:57Speaker 2: So it was at the end of 2021 when... Sydney
- 35:00Speaker 2: and Melbourne were in and out of lockdowns and there
- 35:03Speaker 2: was this massive crackdown on influencers and people holding them
- 35:07Speaker 2: to account. I mean, that's when our podcast really took off. Yeah,
- 35:10Speaker 2: it was at a time when everything felt very amplified
- 35:13Speaker 2: online and I think it was also due to the
- 35:14Speaker 2: fact that the only news that was really out there
- 35:17Speaker 2: was about COVID or about online indiscretions because no one
- 35:21Speaker 2: was getting out and about.
- 35:22Speaker 1: There wasn't much going on.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Everyone was very angry and Georgia said that this is
- 35:26Speaker 2: why she thinks there was such.
- 35:28Speaker 1: A huge reaction to that incident.
- 35:30Speaker 2: I mean, in saying that she did acknowledge that the
- 35:32Speaker 2: timing didn't take away from the fact that she offended people,
- 35:35Speaker 2: but she did say that she felt like there was
- 35:37Speaker 2: an element where people were harsher on her because she's
- 35:41Speaker 2: a journalist and should have known better.
- 35:42Speaker 1: I mean, that was my mindset. I think she also
- 35:45Speaker 1: said that people felt like it was a bit of a.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Sport to condemn reality star contestants as well. So it
- 35:51Speaker 2: was a bit of a mix of It was really
- 35:53Speaker 2: interesting to hear her take on opinion pieces, which were
- 35:56Speaker 2: written about her at the time. She said that she
- 35:58Speaker 2: was used as an example of the worst type of racism.
- 36:01Speaker 2: And most of the commentary came from people that she
- 36:04Speaker 2: didn't associate with. So I'm assuming that she's saying that
- 36:07Speaker 2: those are journos that she hasn't crossed paths with before,
- 36:10Speaker 2: because it would be really weird to be in the
- 36:12Speaker 2: media and to know how they operate, but to then
- 36:16Speaker 2: have your fellow peers writing about you. Well, from memory,
- 36:19Speaker 2: I think it was someone from her newsroom or someone
- 36:22Speaker 2: that used to work with her that wrote this opinion
- 36:24Speaker 2: piece on her slamming her. And she obviously wanted to
- 36:27Speaker 2: put it out there that that person never reached out
- 36:29Speaker 2: to her.
- 36:30Speaker 1: To discuss it privately.
- 36:31Speaker 2: Well, she essentially said that she wanted those people to
- 36:33Speaker 2: tell her face to face what she did wrong and
- 36:35Speaker 2: give her ways to learn from her. I can't say
- 36:37Speaker 2: I agree with her take there because I don't think
- 36:40Speaker 2: it's up to people, particularly those from those marginalized communities,
- 36:43Speaker 2: to give up their time to do so. They're giving
- 36:45Speaker 2: up their time by putting their words into an article.
- 36:48Speaker 2: I don't mean to sound like a PR statement, but
- 36:50Speaker 2: you're meant to put the time in to do that
- 36:52Speaker 2: for yourself and work out what was wrong about it.
- 36:54Speaker 1: You don't expect others to do it for you.
- 36:56Speaker 2: The thing that does make the story a little bit
- 36:57Speaker 2: different from her perspective is that she did work in
- 36:59Speaker 2: the media. So maybe she felt like people should have
- 37:01Speaker 2: given her the heads up that they were going to
- 37:03Speaker 2: write about her and give her the respect of seeing
- 37:06Speaker 2: where she was coming from.
- 37:07Speaker 1: I think that's probably.
- 37:08Speaker 2: What she more meant to say, but maybe it didn't
- 37:10Speaker 2: come across like that. She did say at the time
- 37:12Speaker 2: she felt like public enemy number one and it really
- 37:15Speaker 2: harmed her mental health for quite some time. She said
- 37:18Speaker 2: it was a really difficult time for Lee as well
- 37:20Speaker 2: because he was trying to pick her up throughout it.
- 37:23Speaker 2: Here's how she said the cancellation changed her.
- 37:26Speaker 5: If anything, that period has made me more aware guarded,
- 37:32Speaker 5: not guarded about what I say, really guarded in myself.
- 37:36Speaker 4: I put a lot of walls up from that.
- 37:40Speaker 5: That period really damaged me and really has changed me
- 37:46Speaker 5: as a person. Not my nature or my core, but
- 37:52Speaker 5: the way I react to things or where my mind
- 37:55Speaker 5: jumps to, you If or when my boss calls me,
- 38:00Speaker 5: my heart sinks and I go, oh, God, what's happened?
- 38:02Speaker 4: What's happened? I can't shake that.
- 38:06Speaker 5: And, you know, I've done work and I've moved on
- 38:09Speaker 5: from that period in my life, but it really has
- 38:11Speaker 5: changed me.
- 38:13Speaker 4: It made me probably go inwards.
- 38:16Speaker 5: A lot more and be a bit more independent in
- 38:20Speaker 5: myself because it's probably taught me that you can always
- 38:26Speaker 5: only rely on yourself. Everything you do and say, you're
- 38:30Speaker 5: the one that's accountable for.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Again, I really appreciated her insight into this cancellation because
- 38:37Speaker 1: it's one of those things where you see it and
- 38:39Speaker 1: then the news cycle moves and you forget about it,
- 38:42Speaker 1: but you don't really know the long-term effect it.
- 38:44Speaker 4: Has on someone.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Particularly because it sounds like it did affect her marriage somewhat.
- 38:48Speaker 2: And I think there's been this whole idea lately that
- 38:51Speaker 2: no one can truly be cancelled. But I feel like
- 38:54Speaker 2: in this case, she was because She copped the ultimate punishment.
- 38:57Speaker 2: She lost her dream job and it severely impacted her
- 39:00Speaker 2: mental health and also seemingly her relationship.
- 39:03Speaker 1: It changed her as a person.
- 39:04Speaker 2: I suppose the word cancelled means, you know, the show's
- 39:06Speaker 2: over and there's no coming back from it. So people
- 39:09Speaker 2: definitely are punished by their actions online, but there always
- 39:13Speaker 2: is a bit of a redemption arc. And as you
- 39:14Speaker 2: said earlier, I think that this interview is a great
- 39:17Speaker 2: start for her return.
- 39:20Speaker 1: It's time again for our Friday debrief.
- 39:22Speaker 2: And it always makes me think of those listeners who
- 39:24Speaker 2: message saying that they eat McDonald's when they listen to
- 39:27Speaker 2: the Friday episode.
- 39:28Speaker 1: I can't get that out of my head. That was
- 39:29Speaker 1: a happy moment. moment for me.
- 39:30Speaker 2: I felt like, yeah, we've chosen the right day to
- 39:33Speaker 2: release it because there's nothing better than like, I love
- 39:36Speaker 2: when I associate a particular day with a podcast coming out.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Like it's almost your signal that the week is almost over.
- 39:41Speaker 2: You're getting to the weekend.
- 39:43Speaker 3: Yes.
- 39:43Speaker 1: I'm glad that we can be that podcast for some people.
- 39:46Speaker 2: Now I need some help from the listeners because it's
- 39:49Speaker 2: five weeks out from my son Jack's birthday and I
- 39:52Speaker 2: still haven't set a.
- 39:54Speaker 1: Location for his birthday party.
- 39:55Speaker 2: So he is a winter baby and I'm finding that
- 39:58Speaker 2: really difficult because I'd love to go down to a
- 40:00Speaker 2: park and just set up a party there and have
- 40:02Speaker 2: it really easy because I don't want to have it
- 40:04Speaker 2: at my house after seeing you stress about your baby
- 40:07Speaker 2: shower and, you know, having to clean it all up.
- 40:10Speaker 2: And I've got two golden retrievers there that are probably
- 40:12Speaker 2: going to steal food from the table. To be honest,
- 40:13Speaker 2: the cleanup wasn't the worst bit. It was the fact
- 40:15Speaker 2: that we had renos happening at the same time.
- 40:17Speaker 1: Yeah, but I don't have a lot of time.
- 40:19Speaker 2: And the one thing I want to focus on is
- 40:21Speaker 2: actually making a beautiful cake, making a few desserts, getting
- 40:24Speaker 2: some nice decorations and having a fun time. So I'm
- 40:28Speaker 2: thinking I might.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Have it at a pub. But then there's not a
- 40:32Speaker 1: lot of space for the kids to crawl around and
- 40:34Speaker 1: do stuff.
- 40:34Speaker 2: But then the shit thing about having it at a
- 40:36Speaker 2: pub is do you have to then have a bar
- 40:38Speaker 2: tab for everyone?
- 40:39Speaker 1: Well, I think if it's a kid's birthday party, you don't.
- 40:42Speaker 1: People aren't meant to be drinking at it. Well, my
- 40:44Speaker 1: son is going to be a June baby too.
- 40:46Speaker 2: And that is the shit thing about having a birthday
- 40:47Speaker 2: in winter because generally you could just go down to
- 40:49Speaker 2: the park, you have a couple of eskies out, some
- 40:52Speaker 2: soft drinks, like a barbecue.
- 40:54Speaker 1: But this weather makes it difficult.
- 40:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to know if anyone has any suggestions
- 40:58Speaker 2: for a location because I was looking into holes. They're
- 41:01Speaker 2: all so drab and they don't really look very nice.
- 41:04Speaker 2: My husband was paying me out saying, oh, it's all
- 41:05Speaker 2: for the gram. I'm like, no, it's about the atmosphere
- 41:08Speaker 2: going into a hole. You know when it smells like kids'
- 41:11Speaker 2: dirty feet, like the gym? I would offer my house
- 41:14Speaker 2: to you as a bit of a venue so you
- 41:16Speaker 2: don't have to clean up, but that potentially is the
- 41:18Speaker 2: week that I'm going to be having my son, so
- 41:20Speaker 2: I don't think that that would be the best idea. Oh, well,
- 41:22Speaker 2: if you're not here, I could just, you know, set
- 41:23Speaker 2: it up here. I have one last question, though, to
- 41:25Speaker 2: the listeners. I am tossing up between which cake to
- 41:28Speaker 2: make in the Women's Weekly Cookbook. So obviously Jack can't
- 41:31Speaker 2: choose at this point. So the birthday party is going
- 41:34Speaker 2: to be like teddy bears picnic. There's a theme going
- 41:37Speaker 2: around called Berry First Birthday. So you're one of those
- 41:40Speaker 2: basic bitches who's doing the teddy bear theme for.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Your kid's birthday.
- 41:43Speaker 3: Yes, I am.
- 41:44Speaker 1: I decided that about six months ago that that's the
- 41:46Speaker 1: theme I wanted to do. Not lemons?
- 41:48Speaker 2: I mean, I've had every lemon thing. No, it's not
- 41:50Speaker 2: a citrus theme. Now, there is a cake in the
- 41:53Speaker 2: Women's Weekly Cookbook that is a teddy bear. I might
- 41:56Speaker 2: post it on our Instagram story.
- 41:57Speaker 1: So I thought, well, do I do the teddy bear
- 41:59Speaker 1: or do I do the iconic one?
- 42:01Speaker 2: The one will probably save you a lot of time
- 42:03Speaker 2: if you end up having to do it at your house. Well,
- 42:05Speaker 2: that's what my husband said. He goes, I'll just do
- 42:07Speaker 2: the one because I'm scared you'll stress too much about
- 42:09Speaker 2: the teddy bear, but that made me want to do
- 42:10Speaker 2: the teddy bear even more. I don't know why we
- 42:13Speaker 2: put all this pressure on ourselves because then you end
- 42:15Speaker 2: up not actually enjoying the lead up. I decided when
- 42:18Speaker 2: I was having my in-laws over to randomly make cinnamon scrolls,
- 42:22Speaker 2: which I'd never made. And then over Easter, I thought
- 42:25Speaker 2: it was a good idea to make hot cross buns
- 42:27Speaker 2: from scratch.
- 42:28Speaker 1: I feel like this is some weird nesting thing that's
- 42:30Speaker 1: going on. Well, that's what I'm trying to do.
- 42:33Speaker 2: I'm trying to eliminate the difficult jobs so I can
- 42:35Speaker 2: focus on the ones that I want to do. Because
- 42:38Speaker 2: one thing about having a baby that I've been looking
- 42:40Speaker 2: forward to the most is organizing a birthday party. Look,
- 42:43Speaker 2: I think the number one thing is lollies, cheese platters,
- 42:46Speaker 2: and getting some desserts from the bakery down the road.
- 42:48Speaker 2: That's what I did for my baby shower. And it
- 42:50Speaker 2: was a godsend not having to make too much. Don't
- 42:53Speaker 2: put too much on your plate. Just make the cake
- 42:55Speaker 2: and order some extra food. Well, that's why I'm thinking
- 42:58Speaker 2: the pub because it's catered. And then I just bring
- 43:00Speaker 2: the cake and we don't have to clean up after. Well,
- 43:02Speaker 2: that sounds like a good option to me. I want
- 43:04Speaker 2: to talk about my nurseries. So I thought that I
- 43:07Speaker 2: was going to be one of those pregnant women who
- 43:09Speaker 2: had it all organized months before.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Yeah, you were giving me so much shit about my nursery.
- 43:14Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's because we've literally had so many other
- 43:16Speaker 2: renos to do that this has been sort of the
- 43:19Speaker 2: last one on our list because it's supposed to be
- 43:21Speaker 2: the easiest. So This year, we've done up our kitchen.
- 43:23Speaker 2: We've also done up our laundry. We've done up our
- 43:26Speaker 2: lounge room.
- 43:26Speaker 1: All in a pursuit for making your home a hotel.
- 43:28Speaker 4: That's right.
- 43:29Speaker 1: Hotel Hancock. We've done up our outside area. We've got
- 43:31Speaker 1: a new deck. So this has really- Deck or deck?
- 43:34Speaker 3: Deck.
- 43:35Speaker 2: I mean, it's a big deck, isn't it? It's really
- 43:37Speaker 2: full and short though on our list of priorities, but
- 43:41Speaker 2: the room currently is full of boxes. So I've got
- 43:43Speaker 2: my cot and everything sorted.
- 43:45Speaker 1: I've got like a dressing table. I've got a lot
- 43:46Speaker 1: of the things ticked off. but they're not.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Made and the room is not ready. So over the weekend,
- 43:51Speaker 2: we are locking in a time to have carpet put
- 43:54Speaker 2: in our bedrooms, which is going to be quite a
- 43:55Speaker 2: task because then we're like, where is everything in the
- 43:58Speaker 2: room's going to go? But luckily our actual plan for
- 44:01Speaker 2: the nursery, we're doing quite a simple one. I'm being
- 44:03Speaker 2: a beige mom. So it's going to be a very
- 44:06Speaker 2: vibrant white color. And then I'm going to have a
- 44:09Speaker 2: lot of browns and those sort of tones throughout the room.
- 44:13Speaker 2: But I'm just so excited to have it done because
- 44:15Speaker 2: I've been seeing all of these like nesting videos where
- 44:17Speaker 2: mums put in all of the clothes and they sell.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Out all of the little essential items and the nappy caddies.
- 44:22Speaker 1: And I really want to do all of that. I'm
- 44:24Speaker 1: just feeling a bit stressed that it's not done.
- 44:27Speaker 2: I mean, if you're not planning to do all of
- 44:29Speaker 2: your feeds in the nursery, then I wouldn't stress too
- 44:32Speaker 2: much about having it perfectly organized because your baby doesn't
- 44:35Speaker 2: end up sleeping in their overnight until way later on
- 44:39Speaker 2: but i feel like it's a safe space and a
- 44:41Speaker 2: calming space where you can do your feeds you can
- 44:42Speaker 2: do all of your changes it's.
- 44:44Speaker 1: Just i just want to have it organized and i
- 44:46Speaker 1: will put up a bit of.
- 44:47Speaker 2: A nursery tour once it is done i have to
- 44:49Speaker 2: put that out there and make myself accountable well on
- 44:52Speaker 2: that note we better leave you to start your nesting
- 44:55Speaker 2: journey now this podcast was recorded on the traditional land
