- 0:00Speaker 1: The Book of the Courses of the Heavenly Luminaries, Chapter
- 0:04Speaker 1: seventy two through Chapter eighty two. Chapter seventy two The Sun,
- 0:11Speaker 1: Chapter seventy two, The Book of the Courses of the
- 0:14Speaker 1: Luminaries of the Heaven. The relations of each according to
- 0:18Speaker 1: their classes, their dominion, and their seasons, according to their
- 0:22Speaker 1: names and places of origin, and according to their months,
- 0:26Speaker 1: which Urial the Holy Angel, who was with me, who
- 0:29Speaker 1: is their guide, showed me, and he showed me all
- 0:32Speaker 1: their laws exactly as they are, and how it is
- 0:35Speaker 1: with regard to all the years of the world and
- 0:37Speaker 1: unto eternity, till the new creation is accomplished, which dureth
- 0:42Speaker 1: till eternity. And this is the first law of the Luminaries,
- 0:46Speaker 1: the luminary. The Sun has its rising in the eastern
- 0:49Speaker 1: portals of the Heaven, and its setting in the western
- 0:52Speaker 1: portals of the Heaven. And I saw six portals in
- 0:56Speaker 1: which the sun rises, and six portals in which the
- 0:59Speaker 1: sun sun sets, and the moon rises and sets in
- 1:02Speaker 1: these portals, and the leaders of the stars in those
- 1:06Speaker 1: whom they lead, six in the east and six in
- 1:09Speaker 1: the west, and all following each other in accurately corresponding
- 1:13Speaker 1: order also many windows to the right and left of
- 1:17Speaker 1: these portals. And first there goes forth the great luminary
- 1:21Speaker 1: named the Sun, and his circumference is like the circumference
- 1:25Speaker 1: of the heaven, and he is quite filled with illuminating
- 1:29Speaker 1: and heating fire. The chariot on which he ascends the
- 1:33Speaker 1: wind drives, and the Sun goes down from the heaven
- 1:36Speaker 1: and returns through the north in order to reach the east,
- 1:40Speaker 1: and is so guided that he comes to the appropriate
- 1:43Speaker 1: literally that portal, and shines in the face of the heaven.
- 1:47Speaker 1: In this way he rises in the first month in
- 1:50Speaker 1: the great portal, which is the fourth those six portals
- 1:53Speaker 1: in the cast, and in that fourth portal from which
- 1:56Speaker 1: the sun rises in the first month are twelve windows
- 2:00Speaker 1: openings from which proceed a flame when they are opened
- 2:03Speaker 1: in their season. When the sun rises in the heaven,
- 2:07Speaker 1: he comes forth through that fourth portal thirty mornings in succession,
- 2:12Speaker 1: and sets accurately in the fourth portal in the west
- 2:15Speaker 1: of the heaven. And during this period the day becomes
- 2:19Speaker 1: daily longer and the night nightly shorter. To the thirtieth
- 2:23Speaker 1: morning on that day, the day is longer than the
- 2:27Speaker 1: night by a ninth part, and the day amounts exactly
- 2:30Speaker 1: to ten parts and the night to eight parts, and
- 2:34Speaker 1: the sun rises from that fourth portal and sets in
- 2:38Speaker 1: the fourth and returns to the fifth portal of the
- 2:41Speaker 1: east thirty mornings and rises from it and sets in
- 2:45Speaker 1: the fifth portal. And then the day becomes longer by
- 2:49Speaker 1: two parts and amounts to eleven parts, and the night
- 2:52Speaker 1: becomes shorter and amounts to seven parts, and it returns
- 2:56Speaker 1: to the east and enters into the sixth portal and
- 3:00Speaker 1: rises and sets in the sixth portal one and thirty mornings.
- 3:04Speaker 1: On account of its sign on that day, the day
- 3:08Speaker 1: becomes longer than the night, and the day becomes double
- 3:11Speaker 1: the night, and the day becomes twelve parts, and the
- 3:15Speaker 1: night is shortened and becomes six parts, and the sun
- 3:18Speaker 1: mounts up to make the day shorter and the night longer,
- 3:22Speaker 1: and the sun returns to the east and enters into
- 3:25Speaker 1: the sixth portal and rises from it and sets thirty mornings.
- 3:30Speaker 1: And when thirty mornings are accomplished, the day decreases by
- 3:34Speaker 1: exactly one part and becomes eleven parts, and the night seven.
- 3:39Speaker 1: And the sun goes forth from that sixth portal in
- 3:42Speaker 1: the west and goes to the east and rises in
- 3:45Speaker 1: the fifth portal for thirty mornings and sets in the
- 3:48Speaker 1: west again in the fifth western portal. On that day,
- 3:53Speaker 1: the day decreases by two parts and amounts to ten
- 3:57Speaker 1: parts and the night to eight parts, and the sun
- 4:01Speaker 1: goes forth from that fifth portal and sets in the
- 4:04Speaker 1: fifth portal of the west and rises in the fourth
- 4:07Speaker 1: portal for one and thirty mornings on account of its sign,
- 4:11Speaker 1: and sets in the west. On that day, the day
- 4:14Speaker 1: is equalized with the night and becomes of equal length,
- 4:18Speaker 1: and the night amounts to nine parts and the day
- 4:21Speaker 1: to nine parts, and the sun rises from that portal
- 4:25Speaker 1: and sets in the west and returns to the east
- 4:28Speaker 1: and rises thirty mornings in the third portal, and sets
- 4:32Speaker 1: in the west in the third portal, And on that
- 4:35Speaker 1: day the night becomes longer than the day, and night
- 4:38Speaker 1: becomes longer than night and day shorter than day till
- 4:42Speaker 1: the thirtieth morning, and the night amounts exactly to ten
- 4:46Speaker 1: parts and the day to eight parts, and the sun
- 4:49Speaker 1: rises from that third portal and sets in the third
- 4:51Speaker 1: portal in the west and returns to the east, and
- 4:54Speaker 1: for thirty mornings rises in the second portal in the east,
- 4:58Speaker 1: and in like manner in the second portal in the
- 5:01Speaker 1: west of the heaven, And on that day the night
- 5:04Speaker 1: amounts to eleven parts, in the day to seven parts.
- 5:07Speaker 1: And the sun rises on that day from the second
- 5:10Speaker 1: portal and sets in the west in the second portal,
- 5:12Speaker 1: and returns to the east into the first portal for
- 5:16Speaker 1: one and thirty mornings, and sets in the first portal
- 5:19Speaker 1: in the west of the heaven. And on that day
- 5:22Speaker 1: the night becomes longer and amounts to the double of
- 5:24Speaker 1: the day, and the night amounts exactly to twelve parts,
- 5:28Speaker 1: and the day to six, and the sun has therewith
- 5:31Speaker 1: traversed the divisions of his orbit, and turns again on
- 5:35Speaker 1: those divisions of his orbit, and enters that portal thirty mornings,
- 5:39Speaker 1: and sets also in the west opposite to it. And
- 5:43Speaker 1: on that night has the night decreased in length by
- 5:46Speaker 1: a ninth part, and the night has become eleven parts
- 5:49Speaker 1: in the day seven parts, And the sun has returned
- 5:53Speaker 1: and entered into the second portal in the east and
- 5:56Speaker 1: returns on those his divisions of his orbit for thirty mornings,
- 6:00Speaker 1: rising and setting. And on that day the night decreases
- 6:04Speaker 1: in length, and the night amounts to ten parts, and
- 6:06Speaker 1: the day to eight. And on that day the sun
- 6:09Speaker 1: rises from that portal and sets in the west, and
- 6:12Speaker 1: returns to the east, and rises in the third portal
- 6:15Speaker 1: for one and thirty mornings, and sets in the west
- 6:18Speaker 1: of the heaven. On that day the night decreases and
- 6:22Speaker 1: amounts to nine parts, and the day to nine parts,
- 6:26Speaker 1: And the night is equal to the day, and the
- 6:29Speaker 1: year is exactly as to its days three hundred and
- 6:32Speaker 1: sixty four. And the length of the day and of
- 6:36Speaker 1: the night, and the shortness of the day and of
- 6:39Speaker 1: the night arise through the course of the Sun. These
- 6:42Speaker 1: distinctions are made literally, they are separated. So it comes
- 6:47Speaker 1: that its course becomes daily longer, and its course nightly shorter.
- 6:52Speaker 1: And this is the law and the course of the Sun,
- 6:55Speaker 1: and his return as often as he returns sixty times
- 6:59Speaker 1: and rises. In other words, the great Luminary, which is
- 7:03Speaker 1: named the Sun forever and ever, and that which thus rises,
- 7:08Speaker 1: is the great Luminary, and is so named according to
- 7:11Speaker 1: its appearance, according as the Lord commanded. As he rises,
- 7:16Speaker 1: so he sets and decreases not and rests not, but
- 7:20Speaker 1: runs day and night, and is light is sevenfold brighter
- 7:23Speaker 1: than that of the moon, but as regards size, they
- 7:27Speaker 1: are both equal Chapter seventy three. And after this law
- 7:32Speaker 1: I saw another law dealing with the smaller luminary, which
- 7:35Speaker 1: is named the moon. And her circumference is like the
- 7:39Speaker 1: circumference of the heaven. And her chariot in which she
- 7:43Speaker 1: rides is driven by the wind, and light is given
- 7:46Speaker 1: to her in definite measure, and her rising and setting
- 7:50Speaker 1: change every month, and her days are like the days
- 7:53Speaker 1: of the sun. And when her light is uniform, in
- 7:56Speaker 1: other words, full, it amounts to the seventh part of
- 7:59Speaker 1: the light of face the sun. And thus she rises,
- 8:03Speaker 1: and her first phase in the east comes forth on
- 8:06Speaker 1: the thirtieth morning, and on that day she becomes visible
- 8:10Speaker 1: and constitutes for you the first phase of the moon
- 8:13Speaker 1: on the thirtieth day, together with the sun in the
- 8:16Speaker 1: portal where the sun rises, and the one half of
- 8:20Speaker 1: her goes forth by a seventh part, And her whole
- 8:23Speaker 1: circumference is empty without light, with the exception of one
- 8:28Speaker 1: seventh part of it and the fourteenth part of her light.
- 8:32Speaker 1: And when she receives one seventh part of the half
- 8:35Speaker 1: of her light, her light amounts to one seventh part,
- 8:39Speaker 1: and the half thereof, and she sets with the sun,
- 8:42Speaker 1: and when the sun rises, the moon rises with him
- 8:45Speaker 1: and receives the half of one part of light. And
- 8:49Speaker 1: in that night, in the beginning of her morning, in
- 8:51Speaker 1: the commencement of the lunar day, the moon sets with
- 8:55Speaker 1: the sun and is invisible that night with the fourteen
- 8:58Speaker 1: parts and the half of one of them. And she
- 9:02Speaker 1: rises on that day with exactly a seventh part, and
- 9:05Speaker 1: comes forth and recedes from the rising of the sun.
- 9:09Speaker 1: And in her remaining days she becomes bright. In the
- 9:12Speaker 1: remaining thirteen parts, Chapter seventy four, and I saw another course,
- 9:18Speaker 1: a law for her, and how according to that law
- 9:21Speaker 1: she performs her monthly revolution. And all these Uriel, the
- 9:26Speaker 1: Holy Angel, who is the leader of them, all showed
- 9:28Speaker 1: to me and their positions, And I wrote down their
- 9:32Speaker 1: positions as he showed them to me. And I wrote
- 9:35Speaker 1: down their months as they were, and the appearance of
- 9:38Speaker 1: their lights till fifteen days were accomplished. In single seventh parts,
- 9:44Speaker 1: she accomplishes all her light in the east, and in
- 9:47Speaker 1: single seventh parts accomplishes all her darkness in the west.
- 9:53Speaker 1: And in certain months she alters her settings, and in
- 9:56Speaker 1: certain months she pursues her own peculiar course. In two months,
- 10:02Speaker 1: the moon sets with the sun in those two middle portals,
- 10:06Speaker 1: the third and the fourth. She goes forth for seven
- 10:10Speaker 1: days and turns about and returns again through the portal
- 10:13Speaker 1: where the sun rises, and accomplishes all her light, and
- 10:17Speaker 1: she recedes from the sun, and in eight days enters
- 10:21Speaker 1: the sixth portal, from which the sun goes forth. And
- 10:25Speaker 1: when the sun goes forth from the fourth portal, she
- 10:28Speaker 1: goes forth seven days until she goes forth from the fifth,
- 10:32Speaker 1: and turns back again in seven days into the fourth portal,
- 10:36Speaker 1: and accomplishes all her light, and she recedes and enters
- 10:41Speaker 1: into the first portal in eight days, and she returns
- 10:44Speaker 1: again in seven days into the fourth portal, from which
- 10:48Speaker 1: the sun goes forth. Thus I saw their position, how
- 10:52Speaker 1: the moon rows and the sun set in those days.
- 10:56Speaker 1: And if five years are added together, the sun has
- 10:59Speaker 1: an overplus of thirty days, and all the days which
- 11:03Speaker 1: accrue to it for one of those five years, when
- 11:06Speaker 1: they are full, amount to three hundred and sixty four days,
- 11:11Speaker 1: And the overplus of the sun and of the stars
- 11:14Speaker 1: amounts to six days. In five years, six days every
- 11:18Speaker 1: year come to thirty days, and the Moon falls behind
- 11:21Speaker 1: the Sun and stars to the number of thirty days,
- 11:24Speaker 1: and the Sun and the stars bring in all the
- 11:28Speaker 1: years exactly, so that they do not advance or delay
- 11:31Speaker 1: their position by a single day unto eternity, but complete
- 11:35Speaker 1: the years with perfect justice in three hundred and sixty
- 11:39Speaker 1: four days. In three years there are one thousand, ninety
- 11:43Speaker 1: two days, and in five years one thousand, eight hundred
- 11:46Speaker 1: and twenty days, so that in eight years there are
- 11:50Speaker 1: two thousand, nine hundred and twelve days. For the Moon alone,
- 11:54Speaker 1: the days amount in three years to one thousand, sixty
- 11:58Speaker 1: two days, and in five years years she falls fifty
- 12:01Speaker 1: days behind. In other words, to the sum of one thousand,
- 12:05Speaker 1: seven hundred and seventy there is to be added one
- 12:09Speaker 1: thousand and sixty two days, and in five years there
- 12:14Speaker 1: are one thousand, seven hundred and seventy days, so that
- 12:17Speaker 1: for the moon the days in eight years amount to
- 12:20Speaker 1: two thousand, eight hundred and thirty two days. For in
- 12:24Speaker 1: eight years she falls behind to the amount of eighty days.
- 12:28Speaker 1: All the days she falls behind in eight years are eighty,
- 12:32Speaker 1: and the year is accurately completed in conformity with their
- 12:36Speaker 1: world stations and the stations of the Sun, which rise
- 12:40Speaker 1: from the portals through which it the sun rises and
- 12:43Speaker 1: sets thirty days, Chapter seventy five. And the leaders of
- 12:49Speaker 1: the heads of the thousands, who are placed over the
- 12:51Speaker 1: whole creation and over all the stars, have also to
- 12:55Speaker 1: do with the four intercalorie days, being inseparable from their
- 13:00Speaker 1: office according to the reckoning of the year, and these
- 13:03Speaker 1: render service on the four days which are not reckoned
- 13:07Speaker 1: in the reckoning of the year, and owing to them
- 13:10Speaker 1: men go wrong therein for those luminaries truly render service
- 13:15Speaker 1: on the world stations one in the first portal, one
- 13:18Speaker 1: in the third portal of the heaven, one in the
- 13:21Speaker 1: fourth portal, and one in the sixth portal, And the
- 13:25Speaker 1: exactness of the year is accomplished through its separate three
- 13:29Speaker 1: hundred and sixty four stations for the signs and the times,
- 13:33Speaker 1: in the years and the days. The Angel Uriel showed
- 13:37Speaker 1: to me whom the Lord of Glory hath set forever
- 13:40Speaker 1: over all the luminaries of the Heaven, in the heaven
- 13:43Speaker 1: and in the world, that they should rule on the
- 13:46Speaker 1: face of the heaven, and be seen on the earth,
- 13:49Speaker 1: and be leaders for the day and the night. In
- 13:52Speaker 1: other words, the sun, moon, and stars, and all the
- 13:56Speaker 1: ministering creatures which make their revolution in all the time,
- 14:00Speaker 1: chariots of the heaven. In like manner, twelve doors Uriel
- 14:04Speaker 1: showed me open in the circumference of the Sun's chariot
- 14:08Speaker 1: in the heaven, through which the rays of the Sun
- 14:10Speaker 1: break forth, and from them is warmth diffused over the
- 14:14Speaker 1: earth when they are opened in their appointed seasons, and
- 14:18Speaker 1: for the winds and the spirit of the dew when
- 14:21Speaker 1: they are opened, standing open in the heavens at the ends,
- 14:25Speaker 1: as for the twelve portals in the heaven, at the
- 14:27Speaker 1: ends of the earth, out of which go forth the sun, moon,
- 14:30Speaker 1: and stars, and all the works of heaven. In the
- 14:33Speaker 1: east and in the west, there are many windows open
- 14:37Speaker 1: to the left and right of them, and one window,
- 14:40Speaker 1: at its appointed season, produces warmth, corresponding as these do
- 14:45Speaker 1: to those doors from which the stars come forth, according
- 14:49Speaker 1: as he commanded them, and wherein they set, corresponding to
- 14:53Speaker 1: their number. And I saw chariots in the heaven running
- 14:57Speaker 1: in the world above those portals in which revolve the
- 14:59Speaker 1: star that never set, and one is larger than all
- 15:03Speaker 1: the rest, And it is that that makes its course
- 15:06Speaker 1: through the entire world and of Section ten
