Latest / Halo Territory: A Los Angeles Angels Podcast / UNDER CONSTRUCTION: It wasn't a full tear-down, but the Angels have embarked on major rebuild
Transcript
- 0:08Speaker 1: Well, Hey, Angel fans, and welcome back to Halo territory.
- 0:12Speaker 1: I am Mike Dgievanna form Ala, Times Baseball writer and
- 0:15Speaker 1: host of the show, joined by Mark Trumbo, my regular
- 0:18Speaker 1: co host and former Angel slugger, and our regular guest
- 0:21Speaker 1: contributor Sam Blumer of The Athletic.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Well, guys, it's Monday evening.
- 0:25Speaker 1: The trade deadline has passed, and it was a bit
- 0:28Speaker 1: of a doozy for the Angels. They stopped short of
- 0:32Speaker 1: a full teardown, but started a significant rebuild by trading
- 0:36Speaker 1: five players today off their big league roster Jose Soriano,
- 0:40Speaker 1: Ryan Zephyr, John Joe Adell, Brent Souter, and Kirby Yates
- 0:43Speaker 1: and acquiring eight prospects. And if you throw in last
- 0:47Speaker 1: week's trade at Chase Silseth and Logan o'happy to the Rangers,
- 0:50Speaker 1: that's seven big leaguers for nine prospects. The three best
- 0:54Speaker 1: players acquired in these deals were Blue Jay's shortstop prospect
- 0:58Speaker 1: Arjun Nomala, who was slotted into the number two slot
- 1:02Speaker 1: in the Angels' rankings by MLB Pipeline Pipeline, and Guardians
- 1:07Speaker 1: catching prospect Jacob Cozart, who slotted into the number eighteen
- 1:12Speaker 1: spot and they also got a guy Mark's pretty fond
- 1:15Speaker 1: of Cubs backup catcher moices by Asteros, and he will
- 1:20Speaker 1: join the Angels in Baltimore on Tuesday. Of note, the
- 1:24Speaker 1: Angels did not trade the two players who probably were
- 1:28Speaker 1: their most coveted and would have garnered the biggest returns.
- 1:31Speaker 1: That's pitcher Reid Detmers and Zach Netta. So I want
- 1:35Speaker 1: to start our reactions on the panel today with a
- 1:38Speaker 1: tweet from Sam today. What the Angels are doing today
- 1:41Speaker 1: is unrecognizable from their method of operation and long overdue.
- 1:46Speaker 1: If they someday, if someday today turn this around, be
- 1:50Speaker 1: it next year, the year after, or even twenty twenty nine,
- 1:54Speaker 1: today will be a necessary first step.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Sam, you want to kind of elaborate on that.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean this is what big league teams do.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Right when you play terrible baseball and you're not in
- 2:05Speaker 3: a playoff position, you look at what you have and
- 2:07Speaker 3: you assess and you decide, okay, this is we have
- 2:09Speaker 3: to make a change, right Like, And that's what literally
- 2:12Speaker 3: what Gemalzlax said. So I you know, it's like I said,
- 2:15Speaker 3: it's a first step, right. There are so many other
- 2:17Speaker 3: parts of this organization that I think need a hard look,
- 2:19Speaker 3: including you know, personnel that work there that you know,
- 2:23Speaker 3: other players on this roster, processes like everything. Right, It's
- 2:27Speaker 3: not just making trades of the deadline, because they you know,
- 2:31Speaker 3: they're worse team today than they were yesterday in terms
- 2:33Speaker 3: of their actual on field product. But I think they're
- 2:36Speaker 3: a healthy organization in terms of process and making smart decisions.
- 2:41Speaker 3: So that's what I mean by that.
- 2:42Speaker 4: Right.
- 2:42Speaker 3: It's a first step, but I think it's a really
- 2:43Speaker 3: good first step. And now they've got some real, you know,
- 2:47Speaker 3: potential talent in that farm system. It gives them some
- 2:50Speaker 3: flexibility that allows them, if they are able to, you know,
- 2:52Speaker 3: make some some additions I think through free agency. I mean,
- 2:56Speaker 3: then you can actually start to build a foundation for
- 2:59Speaker 3: a successful team.
- 2:59Speaker 5: Right.
- 3:00Speaker 3: I think that's the combination you need to be able
- 3:02Speaker 3: to go into the off season add players in free
- 3:04Speaker 3: agency depending on what the lockout, what things look like
- 3:07Speaker 3: post lockout, but also then have a base of talent
- 3:10Speaker 3: that continues to come through your system. And that's you know,
- 3:13Speaker 3: when you're bad, you use deadlines to make yourselves better
- 3:16Speaker 3: for the future. And they finally did that. It's such
- 3:18Speaker 3: an easy, simple concept that has eluded them for far
- 3:21Speaker 3: too long.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Mark, what was your reaction to the day's events.
- 3:28Speaker 5: Watched for the majority of the day as the deals
- 3:32Speaker 5: materialized or didn't. I think that I don't have anything
- 3:38Speaker 5: that can really top what Sam just said. He you know,
- 3:43Speaker 5: this is why he gets paid to do this for
- 3:45Speaker 5: a living. But I did my contributions can hopefully be
- 3:50Speaker 5: maybe shedding some light on the players then were acquired.
- 3:54Speaker 5: I'm not going to pretend that I know them intimately.
- 3:58Speaker 5: I think a lot of people do that. And and
- 4:01Speaker 5: you know the thing with prospects, people you know, especially fans,
- 4:04Speaker 5: can get up in arms about you know, who was
- 4:06Speaker 5: traded away and all these things. They don't really know
- 4:08Speaker 5: these guys. They don't know what they do or what
- 4:11Speaker 5: they can do, and on the flip side, get overly
- 4:14Speaker 5: hyped about. But I think the Angels got at least
- 4:16Speaker 5: two very good players in return during this trade deadline,
- 4:21Speaker 5: and that's really going to help for the future. They
- 4:23Speaker 5: also shed quite a bit of payroll. If you combine Soriano,
- 4:27Speaker 5: Adel and o'hapi, what they may have made next year
- 4:31Speaker 5: could have been in exus of fifteen million, So that
- 4:34Speaker 5: probably is good for somebody at least.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Yeah, one of my takeaways is that Arty Marino appears
- 4:42Speaker 1: to have finally relinquished the reins.
- 4:44Speaker 2: You know, I don't think.
- 4:46Speaker 1: I was talking with Bill Shaking, my former Early Times colleague,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and we were wondering, you know, would Perry Meanesian have
- 4:52Speaker 1: been able to do this? Would have would there have
- 4:55Speaker 1: been some excuse, Well, I wanted to do this, I.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Wanted to do that. Are Already wouldn't let me do this?
- 5:00Speaker 2: Or that?
- 5:01Speaker 1: I just feel like, Uh, it's a step in the
- 5:04Speaker 1: right direction for Already to give Johnsaylock all the power
- 5:11Speaker 1: and and the wherewithal and and and you know that
- 5:14Speaker 1: he put it in his hands. And I think today
- 5:16Speaker 1: was a very necessary step. Agree with Sam completely very
- 5:20Speaker 1: painful step. If you're an Angel fan and have tickets
- 5:23Speaker 1: for the rest of the season, Uh, you know where
- 5:25Speaker 1: does this leave the Angels for the rest of this season?
- 5:28Speaker 6: Guys?
- 5:29Speaker 1: Uh, it's probably not going to look real pretty. But
- 5:32Speaker 1: as I know, you see it either way, that's true.
- 5:38Speaker 1: They were probably even with this team, they might have
- 5:40Speaker 1: lost a hundred games.
- 5:41Speaker 2: They certainly might have I think.
- 5:43Speaker 5: Eleven straight losing seasons.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, it's just part of the pain isn't it, Mark?
- 5:49Speaker 1: I mean you you lived in Baltimore, uh for a
- 5:52Speaker 1: couple of years.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Right.
- 5:55Speaker 5: I've been on a few lousy ball clubs the Diamondbacks,
- 5:59Speaker 5: we didn't win too many. The ools were good until
- 6:02Speaker 5: they weren't. And this is the business side of the
- 6:06Speaker 5: game and as necessary, and for the guys leaving, I'm
- 6:11Speaker 5: sure Soriano being a homegrown player, there's going to be
- 6:13Speaker 5: a lot of mixed reactions. In season trades are more
- 6:17Speaker 5: difficult in my opinion than off season ones. For the
- 6:20Speaker 5: player to adjust brand new city. Your whole life's up
- 6:24Speaker 5: ended and you got to make it work. So that
- 6:27Speaker 5: is the risk too. For teams acquiring players that maybe
- 6:30Speaker 5: haven't been through the process before first timers, there is
- 6:35Speaker 5: an adjustment period. Can you count on immediate contributions. I
- 6:39Speaker 5: don't really know. It's up in the air. Well, I
- 6:41Speaker 5: don't know, because not always is the answer. Sometimes they hit,
- 6:45Speaker 5: sometimes they take a little while.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Yeah, And like we said, they could have gotten they
- 6:49Speaker 1: could have really did a full tear down if they
- 6:51Speaker 1: traded Debt Meers and zach Netto, who were a lot
- 6:56Speaker 1: of speculations surrounding them. This past week, we did talk
- 6:59Speaker 1: to Mo on a press on a zoom call today
- 7:02Speaker 1: and I asked them specifically about Debtmer's and Netto and
- 7:05Speaker 1: let's see what you had to say. Hey, Mo, how
- 7:10Speaker 1: close did you come to trading debtmers and or Netto?
- 7:15Speaker 1: And what should we read into the fact that they
- 7:18Speaker 1: weren't traded? I mean, are these two guys you feel
- 7:21Speaker 1: like you want to build around moving forward?
- 7:26Speaker 2: You know? A couple thoughts on that.
- 7:28Speaker 4: To begin with, when we approached the trading deadline, we
- 7:32Speaker 4: didn't have any vision of saying we had to move someone,
- 7:36Speaker 4: especially when you're talking about players that had years of control.
- 7:40Speaker 4: What we did approach the trading deadline with was that
- 7:44Speaker 4: we're going to be open and listen to anyone that
- 7:47Speaker 4: we thought made sense to us, and more importantly, if
- 7:50Speaker 4: we felt like there was a value in what we
- 7:53Speaker 4: were getting in return, that was something we would would pursue.
- 7:56Speaker 4: I do think in the dept Meers Siano sort of equation,
- 8:02Speaker 4: I think teams were not sure how to think about
- 8:04Speaker 4: that in the sense of like maybe value one versus
- 8:07Speaker 4: the other, and I think that kind of split the votes,
- 8:11Speaker 4: if you will, to some degree. But ultimately we didn't
- 8:14Speaker 4: feel comfortable with just moving someone to say we move them,
- 8:17Speaker 4: and so it really was more of a valuable equation
- 8:21Speaker 4: than simply just trying to move players.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Today, how do you look at short Stop moving forward,
- 8:26Speaker 3: obviously acquiring our zone with having Zach still, what do
- 8:30Speaker 3: you I mean? I know he's probably a year at
- 8:34Speaker 3: least a couple of years away, but how do you
- 8:35Speaker 3: look at the future at that position.
- 8:37Speaker 4: I look at it that we're in a very good position.
- 8:40Speaker 4: Obviously we have mister Netto for three more years. In
- 8:44Speaker 4: the meantime, we now have a young, talented prospect to
- 8:48Speaker 4: your point on a timetable, I think is realistic to
- 8:52Speaker 4: be in the big leagues in two years. So I
- 8:54Speaker 4: think the timing of that is perfect. So yeah, the
- 9:00Speaker 4: death we now have at a very high level of
- 9:03Speaker 4: short stop, So that's exciting.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Sam Ware, Do you feel like this leaves Neto? I
- 9:10Speaker 1: personally think, and I said this in our last show,
- 9:12Speaker 1: I think they'd probably better off just sort of waiting
- 9:15Speaker 1: till the winner and really putting together a good package
- 9:18Speaker 1: for this kid if they do intend to trade him.
- 9:21Speaker 1: But this short stop they got from Toronto is a
- 9:24Speaker 1: year or two away, but not that far. He's a
- 9:26Speaker 1: pretty good looking prospect. Do you think they're going to
- 9:30Speaker 1: look to really trade this guy this winter?
- 9:32Speaker 3: I would think so, to be honest with you, I
- 9:35Speaker 3: mean it makes sense to me that that's you know,
- 9:37Speaker 3: even in that answer, while it is a little bit
- 9:39Speaker 3: of a vague answer, I do think he is kind
- 9:41Speaker 3: of saying, you know, we kind of look at you know,
- 9:44Speaker 3: Namala as this guy that will take over for Netdo
- 9:47Speaker 3: in a couple of years when he's ready. I mean,
- 9:48Speaker 3: that is what he said. So if I'm Zach Netto,
- 9:51Speaker 3: I'm probably looking at the writing on the wall. You know,
- 9:54Speaker 3: even these last couple of weeks, it seems like it's
- 9:56Speaker 3: been you know, getting to him, to some kid. We
- 9:58Speaker 3: talked about it on the last show, right, it's gotten
- 10:00Speaker 3: to him a little bit. So you know, I'd be
- 10:03Speaker 3: curious to kind of see how these next two months
- 10:05Speaker 3: go for him in terms of how he you know,
- 10:08Speaker 3: how he feels, how he looks right like they're playing
- 10:12Speaker 3: irrelevant baseball. How does that manifest itself in Zach Neto's
- 10:16Speaker 3: you know world will be interesting to watch. But yeah,
- 10:19Speaker 3: I mean, if you're listening to an answer, you're reading
- 10:21Speaker 3: the writing on the wall. Like if I'm Zach Netto.
- 10:23Speaker 3: I'm thinking my future in Anaheim is measured probably months
- 10:27Speaker 3: at this point, and if it is years, it's probably
- 10:29Speaker 3: not a lot of years.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Mark.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Was there any disappointment that, at least as far as
- 10:35Speaker 1: you were concerned, that they didn't go all the way
- 10:37Speaker 1: and trade Detmer's and Netto as well? Or you think
- 10:41Speaker 1: these are two guys you'd like to have around in
- 10:43Speaker 1: terms of a you know, rebuild, however long that takes.
- 10:47Speaker 5: Well, I'm trying to be an analytst. I'm not a
- 10:50Speaker 5: fan of the club, so you know, reactions like this,
- 10:54Speaker 5: I just try to be neutral. I mean half joking,
- 10:56Speaker 5: but yeah, I don't have any uh, probably with the
- 11:01Speaker 5: decisions of those more capable than myself. Moe is although
- 11:06Speaker 5: from what I was reading with the Cardinals, they never
- 11:08Speaker 5: really had to do something like this or anywhere near
- 11:11Speaker 5: to the same extent, so he appears to be a
- 11:14Speaker 5: very competent negotiator. Hasn't always been the case here, I think,
- 11:19Speaker 5: although sometimes you know Zephyr John was a player acquired
- 11:23Speaker 5: via trade I believe for Garcia and now flipped for
- 11:26Speaker 5: uh some really good players, or at least one when
- 11:29Speaker 5: Balisteros with a big power bat the body, it's going
- 11:32Speaker 5: to look a little more like Alejandro Kirk, but he can.
- 11:36Speaker 5: He hits the out of the ball, so that's good.
- 11:42Speaker 5: It's a good thing. If you're Zach netto Mike, do
- 11:46Speaker 5: you think one or two like I guess you're maybe
- 11:50Speaker 5: he could view it as he's just so talented that,
- 11:53Speaker 5: you know, teams just couldn't meet that asking price. Do
- 11:55Speaker 5: you agree with more of that that side of it?
- 11:58Speaker 1: I think Mo and rightfully so put a high price
- 12:03Speaker 1: on a higher price on Netto and debts than he
- 12:06Speaker 1: did on at least in the pitching side than he
- 12:08Speaker 1: did on Sorriano, and I think he's right to do so.
- 12:11Speaker 1: There is really no there's no need to trade him
- 12:14Speaker 1: right now. I felt like he would have had to
- 12:17Speaker 1: have gotten blown away with an offer to trade netto
- 12:20Speaker 1: right now.
- 12:20Speaker 2: And who knows.
- 12:21Speaker 1: As Sam says, let's see what happens over the next
- 12:23Speaker 1: few months. Maybe somebody gets to him. Maybe you know,
- 12:27Speaker 1: some of these issues that we've brought up in the
- 12:29Speaker 1: show can be ironed out and eliminated, and maybe he
- 12:32Speaker 1: comes back next year with the fresh start, maybe they
- 12:34Speaker 1: make some moves over the winner that I'm a little
- 12:36Speaker 1: more confident about the team in the short run, but
- 12:39Speaker 1: I'm okay with them holding on to zach Netto at
- 12:42Speaker 1: least for now. He were to take a quick break
- 12:43Speaker 1: for a word from our sponsors, and we come back,
- 12:46Speaker 1: we'll talk about Mike Trout, and then we're gonna let
- 12:49Speaker 1: Mark tell us some more about these prospects the angels
- 12:52Speaker 1: getting in these deals.
- 12:54Speaker 7: It's the summertime, aj and this is a time to
- 12:57Speaker 7: feel free wild make some phone calls that you're overdue for,
- 13:03Speaker 7: and also get some deals that you should be getting
- 13:06Speaker 7: that you deserve.
- 13:07Speaker 6: Yeah, it couldn't be any easier though. It's just one
- 13:09Speaker 6: price for unlimited talk, text and data. It's really simple.
- 13:14Speaker 6: It is one price for all the data and all
- 13:16Speaker 6: the phone calls you could want per month.
- 13:18Speaker 2: It's simple, that's right.

- 13:57Speaker 1: And welcome back to Halo Territory with Mark Trumbo's Blum
- 14:00Speaker 1: and Mike Dgvanawall. Before we start breaking down these individual trades,
- 14:04Speaker 1: want to address one more big picture topic, and that
- 14:08Speaker 1: is Mike Trout.
- 14:09Speaker 2: And we did ask MO about him today.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Did you feel or entertain any serious inquiries about Mike Trout?
- 14:20Speaker 2: No, I did not.
- 14:23Speaker 4: Was I just spoke with Mike a couple of weeks ago,
- 14:28Speaker 4: and as far as like putting him out there, we
- 14:32Speaker 4: decided that.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Just was not going to happen.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Was that him saying like I just won't wave the
- 14:37Speaker 3: trade clause no matter what, or was that based on
- 14:39Speaker 3: the like a more holistic conversation on the future.
- 14:43Speaker 4: I think more holistic and I will share this with
- 14:46Speaker 4: you guys. I did invite him into the trade room
- 14:49Speaker 4: just to take a peek at it the other day,
- 14:51Speaker 4: and yeah, I thought it was a pretty interesting process.
- 14:54Speaker 4: And you know, he truly loves the game of baseball,
- 14:58Speaker 4: and so he was just curious on what this whole,
- 15:00Speaker 4: I hope thing look like. And uh, I mean, obviously
- 15:03Speaker 4: he's the face of this franchise, and from where I stand,
- 15:09Speaker 4: my standpoint from being around him is like, we want
- 15:12Speaker 4: to get this better for him and for others, because
- 15:16Speaker 4: our fans want to see winning and that's the goal
- 15:18Speaker 4: of what we're trying to accomplish.
- 15:20Speaker 5: You get credit for any of these trades.
- 15:23Speaker 2: No, but if he takes credit for it, please let me.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Oh, where where does this leave Mike Trout moving forward?
- 15:32Speaker 1: Sure doesn't a peer that he wants out or you know,
- 15:35Speaker 1: he's made any kind of demands. A lot of speculation
- 15:38Speaker 1: about him as well, can't Mark, especially you you're a
- 15:42Speaker 1: teammate of Mike's. Can this team still build around Mike Trout?
- 15:46Speaker 1: Can he still be a significant part of a team
- 15:49Speaker 1: that's it still looks like it's going to be a
- 15:52Speaker 1: year or two away from competing. Can he be a
- 15:54Speaker 1: big part of that still? I think you may have
- 15:59Speaker 1: answered part of the question. I sure it's going to
- 16:03Speaker 1: be towards the end of his contract. You're going to
- 16:06Speaker 1: need some of these guys to kind of really click,
- 16:11Speaker 1: and you might have to go out and spend some
- 16:13Speaker 1: money and acquire some talent on the free agent market.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Is it a definite that this is going to be
- 16:19Speaker 1: a thing.
- 16:20Speaker 5: Obviously not. I think it's maybe a little bit more
- 16:23Speaker 5: of a long shot. And only one team is going
- 16:28Speaker 5: to win the World Series every year, So I'd like
- 16:31Speaker 5: to see it for Mike, I think, I know, you know,
- 16:34Speaker 5: I have to assume he would like to see it.
- 16:36Speaker 5: I don't pepper them with these types of questions. Does
- 16:38Speaker 5: he want to win? You know, all these people love
- 16:40Speaker 5: to hear all of those things. The assumption is absolutely yes,
- 16:43Speaker 5: he wants to win. If you're playing pro sports and
- 16:48Speaker 5: you're into losing, I just don't. That's not a thing.
- 16:51Speaker 5: That's that you know, nobody wants to do that. It's
- 16:53Speaker 5: part of the reality. But hopefully sooner than later. I
- 16:56Speaker 5: think we speculated, or at least my guess was twenty thirty,
- 16:59Speaker 5: twenty twenty nine, twenty thirty. So the math is, you know,
- 17:03Speaker 5: it's tough, but I hope so Sam.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Any thoughts on where Mike is moving forward.
- 17:09Speaker 3: I kind of go back and forth will in this one,
- 17:11Speaker 3: because it's like, you know, if your Mike, do you
- 17:13Speaker 3: really want to sit around and you know this team's
- 17:15Speaker 3: going to just be in a tough spot. It's it's,
- 17:18Speaker 3: you know, he's got to think more short term than
- 17:20Speaker 3: I think others do. I mean, it's his career, it's
- 17:22Speaker 3: you know, I don't know what what kind of player
- 17:24Speaker 3: he will be in three years when this maybe all
- 17:26Speaker 3: looks a little bit different.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 17:28Speaker 3: And again, the other side of it is he's also
- 17:29Speaker 3: been here for a long time, and I think he
- 17:31Speaker 3: knows that just because of one good trade deadline or
- 17:34Speaker 3: you know, one positive step in the right direction, you know,
- 17:39Speaker 3: like you you referenced earlier, are already kind of taking
- 17:41Speaker 3: a step back. Like I think that's I think that's
- 17:43Speaker 3: a lot to kind of assume right now. You know,
- 17:46Speaker 3: this is still the Angels, right, you don't get to
- 17:49Speaker 3: this point without you know, I mean, they're they're they're
- 17:52Speaker 3: like the laughing stock of North American sports at this point.
- 17:55Speaker 3: So I think that there's just so much that still
- 17:57Speaker 3: needs to happen that if you're Mike Trout, like, you know,
- 18:00Speaker 3: do you really really really want to, you know, go
- 18:02Speaker 3: through your whole career like just nightmare after nightmare. But
- 18:06Speaker 3: at the same time, like if there is a hope, right,
- 18:08Speaker 3: if there is a glimmer of a hope that this
- 18:10Speaker 3: could get better, Like, isn't it isn't that payoff gonna
- 18:14Speaker 3: be worth it? So I think that's maybe where he's thinking,
- 18:16Speaker 3: if he's if he's really even considering this at all.
- 18:19Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, like I think
- 18:21Speaker 3: that's you know, that's that that's the optimistic way of
- 18:23Speaker 3: looking at this. And and you know, like like Mark said,
- 18:26Speaker 3: for his sake, right, you you hope that uh he
- 18:29Speaker 3: can be a part of that in some capacity, because
- 18:32Speaker 3: he certainly deserves it. The career he's put up is
- 18:35Speaker 3: worthy of of having some moments in those big, big
- 18:38Speaker 3: games that he just hasn't had yet.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, let's get into some of these trades,
- 18:42Speaker 1: hopefully all of them, if you have time. The big
- 18:45Speaker 1: one Jose Soriano, who I believe had two more years
- 18:48Speaker 1: of control, sent to the Toronto Blue Jays for shortstock
- 18:51Speaker 1: prospect our. June Namala, outfielder Eddie Micleddy Junior and right
- 18:56Speaker 1: handed pitcher Angel Rovero Mark I assume the stop. He
- 19:01Speaker 1: was the headliner of the day. What do we know
- 19:03Speaker 1: about him?
- 19:05Speaker 5: First generation Indian American. Yeah, I saw that he is
- 19:10Speaker 5: a very good baseball player. Drafted in the first round.
- 19:14Speaker 5: You may have said that he's a shortstop and he's
- 19:18Speaker 5: going to stick there. To me, I see nothing to
- 19:20Speaker 5: say that he won't. He has the look, the athletic look,
- 19:25Speaker 5: which I guess goes without saying, but not everyone in
- 19:28Speaker 5: baseball does. What I saw is a swing that projects
- 19:35Speaker 5: as a powerful swing that uses the whole field. I
- 19:39Speaker 5: was really impressed to see him use the whole field.
- 19:41Speaker 5: I had read a report that talked about a big
- 19:44Speaker 5: uppercut that was not true in my opinion. If anything,
- 19:49Speaker 5: he's a little steep, which may be part of the
- 19:52Speaker 5: issue with his numbers against the breaking ball are not elite. Well,
- 19:56Speaker 5: they're not very good right now, but this is a
- 19:59Speaker 5: young kid who is learning, and that's an adjustment. He
- 20:02Speaker 5: absolutely can make the swing comp I'm going tentatively to
- 20:06Speaker 5: say the good version of George Springer. Maybe not quite
- 20:10Speaker 5: as much power, but it's approaching that and from a
- 20:12Speaker 5: mechanical standpoint, visually that that's what I saw. Eddie Mikletty good.
- 20:19Speaker 5: Not great player, very well rounded. I did like his
- 20:25Speaker 5: swing from a mechanic standpoint, the left he has left
- 20:28Speaker 5: handed I think a depth piece at worst. Maybe he'll blossom.
- 20:33Speaker 5: He's already twenty four years old, so without any major
- 20:36Speaker 5: league experience, and the last one on hell Rivero nineteen
- 20:41Speaker 5: years old gas coin flip. I don't know, nineteen years old,
- 20:46Speaker 5: young guy. Rookie ball got up to ninety seven. I
- 20:50Speaker 5: think he's undersized to five eleven and seventy two pounds,
- 20:53Speaker 5: so a body type. You know, guy's gonna have success,
- 20:58Speaker 5: but he's not a big hulking I like the return
- 21:01Speaker 5: for Yates as a big boy six six.
- 21:06Speaker 1: I was pleasantly surprised they're able to get anything for Yates.
- 21:11Speaker 2: How were they able to pull that off?
- 21:12Speaker 5: Guys, I mean under the hood analytics.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Yeah that's true.
- 21:19Speaker 3: It's not a big return.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Yeah yeah.
- 21:23Speaker 1: The Zephyr John deal to the Cubs, uh Bias Steros
- 21:29Speaker 1: came up on an earlier show as a guy maybe
- 21:31Speaker 1: the Cub the Angels would want to target. Sounds like
- 21:34Speaker 1: more of a bat first catcher. But they the prospect
- 21:38Speaker 1: they got in the Cleveland deal sounds like a pretty
- 21:40Speaker 1: good defensive catcher. What are we getting in Moises by
- 21:42Speaker 1: the stereos?
- 21:43Speaker 2: Mark?
- 21:43Speaker 1: And how about the other guy throwing into that trade,
- 21:46Speaker 1: son of Mark McGuire, Mason McGuire, a right hander, another
- 21:51Speaker 1: local kid that should be pretty fun to have. Maybe
- 21:53Speaker 1: maybe we'll have the slugger around spring training every now
- 21:56Speaker 1: and then. But what do you make of that deal?
- 21:58Speaker 5: Mark, Well, Biasteros has a left handed power bat. I
- 22:03Speaker 5: know mo wanted more left handed pop and this guy's
- 22:06Speaker 5: got it. Advance contact skills, adaptable swing, and emerging power.
- 22:11Speaker 5: Those are sourced from elsewhere. But from what I've seen,
- 22:16Speaker 5: he knows what he's doing with the bat in his hands.
- 22:19Speaker 5: The body type, it's not going to scream, as I
- 22:22Speaker 5: said on Namala, This might be closer to the opposite.
- 22:27Speaker 5: Doesn't mean he's not a very good ballplayer. He's going
- 22:30Speaker 5: to get on base, and I think that they should
- 22:32Speaker 5: give him every chance to stick at catcher. I don't
- 22:36Speaker 5: know exactly. I guess it's the mobility that's probably up
- 22:40Speaker 5: for grabs behind the plate. But you know, he's a
- 22:43Speaker 5: young guy. He's twenty two years old, so there's a
- 22:45Speaker 5: lot to like about him. As far as Mason Maguire,
- 22:48Speaker 5: I don't know as much. I know he's been up
- 22:50Speaker 5: to ninety nine miles an hour and he's got a
- 22:53Speaker 5: nice lineage. But you know, as far as the return
- 22:57Speaker 5: for Zephyr John on his own, I think this was
- 23:00Speaker 5: really good. What I'm more interested in with the Cubs,
- 23:03Speaker 5: they had a clear need and to go up. And
- 23:06Speaker 5: maybe Sam can weigh in on this. Any team that
- 23:08Speaker 5: wants to challenge the Dodgers, in my opinion and many others,
- 23:12Speaker 5: are going to need premium left handed pitching, and Demer's
- 23:16Speaker 5: made a lot of sense. I do wonder if there
- 23:18Speaker 5: was a bigger package discussed and a smaller package discussed
- 23:22Speaker 5: and it ended up being the smaller package. Because the
- 23:24Speaker 5: Cubs have two very intriguing prospects. They're number one and
- 23:28Speaker 5: Josiah Hartshorn and they're number three and oh and Ires
- 23:31Speaker 5: both well. Hartshorn is a outfielder first base and Ayers
- 23:36Speaker 5: is a catcher first base. Heartshorns from Orange Lutheran and Mashes,
- 23:41Speaker 5: So both of these guys could be potential And I
- 23:44Speaker 5: don't know, maybe Sam you can talk about I don't
- 23:47Speaker 5: know if Nolan Shaanawall exactly fits what Moe is looking
- 23:50Speaker 5: for in a first baseman either.
- 23:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I think with Shaana Well, do you mentioned that
- 23:55Speaker 3: there were some like there was some calls on him
- 23:57Speaker 3: and they didn't feel like they needed to move him.
- 23:59Speaker 3: But I don't know exactly where he fits really on
- 24:01Speaker 3: any big league team in the sense not saying he's
- 24:03Speaker 3: not a big league player, but like I think it's
- 24:05Speaker 3: he's just an interesting kind of fit because he's a
- 24:07Speaker 3: first baseman and who doesn't have doesn't really offer power.
- 24:12Speaker 3: Now he's at a home run in quite a long time,
- 24:13Speaker 3: So you know where where where does his value as
- 24:17Speaker 3: a big league you kind of stand. I mean, he's
- 24:18Speaker 3: a decent defensive player, he's got doesn't really have any speed.
- 24:21Speaker 3: I think he's, you know, contact guy who is very
- 24:24Speaker 3: good baseball instincts. So yeah, I don't know. I mean,
- 24:27Speaker 3: I think he was someone I kind of thought would
- 24:30Speaker 3: be a dark horse to go, just because it seems
- 24:32Speaker 3: to me that Mozailak wants to kind of move on
- 24:35Speaker 3: from a lot of these, you know, the Perry era players.
- 24:39Speaker 3: I don't necessarily think that means that Shaanna Well is
- 24:42Speaker 3: going to be a long term first baseman for the
- 24:43Speaker 3: Angels at this point, but you know, him not being traded, uh,
- 24:48Speaker 3: the Angel is not making it a priority to move him.
- 24:51Speaker 3: Suggests that at least there's a chance that he's he's
- 24:53Speaker 3: there long term, or that you know, they're at least
- 24:55Speaker 3: willing to give him that that look. But to me,
- 24:58Speaker 3: I think for Shaanawall to be a deffective big lead
- 25:00Speaker 3: player for a long time, he'll need to be like
- 25:02Speaker 3: a you know, closer to on the closer side to
- 25:05Speaker 3: four hundred on base. You know, he needs to be
- 25:07Speaker 3: as close to like an Luisa Rise as possible, and
- 25:11Speaker 3: he's just not quite there yet. He's had flashes a
- 25:14Speaker 3: really good July, but what is that, you know, where
- 25:16Speaker 3: does that kind of leave you as a you know,
- 25:18Speaker 3: viable big league player over a longer period of time,
- 25:21Speaker 3: And I don't know where that is for Shanwallah.
- 25:24Speaker 1: At least Biasteraurus gives them some power from the left side,
- 25:27Speaker 1: which is a huge need for the Angels right now. Hey,
- 25:30Speaker 1: we're gonna take one more break from a word from

- 26:39Speaker 1: And welcome back to Halo territory with Mark Trumbo, Sam Luman,
- 26:42Speaker 1: Mike Figivanna Well Angels did a straight up one for
- 26:45Speaker 1: one trade with Cleveland. Jo Adell to the Guardians for
- 26:48Speaker 1: catching prospect Jacob Cozart. For all you Halo fans with
- 26:52Speaker 1: tickets to jo Adell's Bobblehead night with the home run robberies,
- 26:56Speaker 1: don't worry, They're still going to give them out. I
- 26:59Speaker 1: didn't look at the schedule. I think I don't know
- 27:01Speaker 1: if Cleveland's in town, but still a great night. I'm
- 27:06Speaker 1: sure that'll be a great Bobblehead. Coz Art seems like
- 27:09Speaker 1: a pretty good defensive catcher. Rave reviews Mark for his
- 27:12Speaker 1: some of his intangibles, game calling skills, framing, handling, pitching staffs.
- 27:17Speaker 2: What do you like about this kid?
- 27:20Speaker 5: Don't know much beyond what I did try and find
- 27:25Speaker 5: as much video as I could. I would agree with
- 27:27Speaker 5: the receiving and the blocking look good. The arm looked mediocre,
- 27:31Speaker 5: and I wasn't in love with this current swing mechanics.
- 27:35Speaker 5: Kind of the same thing I've talked about with guys
- 27:38Speaker 5: being He's got some of the things that I've talked
- 27:42Speaker 5: about with Logan though, the neflex, the heavy neflex and
- 27:45Speaker 5: it's kind of limiting some of his power output. Looks
- 27:49Speaker 5: like he has a very good eye in the batter's box.
- 27:51Speaker 5: But I think it'd be good to maybe hear Sam's
- 27:54Speaker 5: thoughts on with Joeydell. The guardians are getting what they're
- 27:59Speaker 5: getting a player with I was actually kind of surprised.
- 28:04Speaker 5: I believe it was your comment Sam on Joe that
- 28:07Speaker 5: the sprint speed cratered and some of the defensive tools
- 28:11Speaker 5: may have raided it even worse than I thought this year.
- 28:13Speaker 5: The arm strength, I.
- 28:16Speaker 3: Mean less than the art. I mean, you just go
- 28:17Speaker 3: on like Baseball sivon. His arm strength is like in
- 28:19Speaker 3: the bottom two percent of big leaguers. I believe in
- 28:22Speaker 3: his sprints, he doesn't steal bases anymore, right Like that
- 28:25Speaker 3: was that was a part of his game that I
- 28:27Speaker 3: always felt like was going to be really strong if
- 28:30Speaker 3: he figured out kind of the instincts element of it. It
- 28:32Speaker 3: always felt like his you know, instincts for stolen bases
- 28:35Speaker 3: were kind of the issue. Less so the speed. But
- 28:37Speaker 3: if you look now, I mean his speed's Prince speed
- 28:39Speaker 3: is still like above slightly above average, but it's it's
- 28:42Speaker 3: declined quite a bit from where it was, and he
- 28:46Speaker 3: doesn't really attempt them anymore. And you know, I don't
- 28:48Speaker 3: think he's you know, considered a supremely fast player necessarily
- 28:53Speaker 3: at least the play at least that in the way
- 28:55Speaker 3: that he maybe was to me, like you know, me
- 28:58Speaker 3: Adele is as of right now. I mean he's basically
- 29:03Speaker 3: a replacement level player. I mean, that's what the numbers say. Uh,
- 29:06Speaker 3: you know, he's his on bas is around two eighty.
- 29:09Speaker 3: I think you know, his he can't really hit right
- 29:13Speaker 3: hand and pitching, and so I think if you're the Guardians,
- 29:17Speaker 3: I mean you probably look at him as and I
- 29:19Speaker 3: don't know exactly what they'll how they'll use him, but
- 29:20Speaker 3: I would think he's more of a platoon player, like
- 29:23Speaker 3: and he's really good against left handed pitching. I think that,
- 29:25Speaker 3: you know, it is and beyond all, like just the
- 29:28Speaker 3: numbers and everything. I mean, joeid Dell is a good
- 29:29Speaker 3: addition to clubhouse. He's a good guy to have around.
- 29:31Speaker 3: I think he's you know, and I think, you know,
- 29:34Speaker 3: it's fair to acknowledge that his time in Anaheim was
- 29:37Speaker 3: up and down. But and you know, this is kind
- 29:41Speaker 3: of a weird end to an error here, but you know,
- 29:44Speaker 3: he was. He was someone that I think put in
- 29:46Speaker 3: every every once of effort he had into being a
- 29:48Speaker 3: really good big leaguer. I think we saw flashes of that. Uh,
- 29:51Speaker 3: there's a reason he's getting that bobblehead at the end
- 29:53Speaker 3: of the year. There's a reason, you know, he had
- 29:55Speaker 3: thirty seven home runs U last season. He put in
- 29:58Speaker 3: a lot of work. It's just I think, you know,
- 30:00Speaker 3: right now, he's not necessarily a really good big league player,
- 30:04Speaker 3: and that's probably why the return is, you know, kind
- 30:06Speaker 3: of one minor leaguer who may or may not pan out,
- 30:08Speaker 3: but it's it's tough. You know, it's a tough game,
- 30:11Speaker 3: and I think he kind of embodied the fact that,
- 30:14Speaker 3: you know, you can have those great moments, but he
- 30:17Speaker 3: can also really really struggle to do that consistently. And
- 30:20Speaker 3: I think that was a hard thing for him. And
- 30:22Speaker 3: hopefully he gets that opportunity in Cleveland is able to
- 30:24Speaker 3: at the very least be a strong platoton player there.
- 30:27Speaker 1: I was surprised how extreme his splits became this year.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Mark.
- 30:31Speaker 1: I didn't look up the exact numbers, but I don't
- 30:33Speaker 1: remember him struggling as much against righty says he has
- 30:35Speaker 1: this year is that a cyclical thing with a guy
- 30:38Speaker 1: like Joe, Or is there something maybe you saw on
- 30:41Speaker 1: a swing or approach that really hinted him against Righty's
- 30:45Speaker 1: this year.
- 30:48Speaker 5: Thanks for giving me any time to prep for that question.
- 30:52Speaker 5: He's not a layup. Joe's whole game this year has
- 30:57Speaker 5: been an intriguing at the plate. I feel like he's
- 31:00Speaker 5: he's a better all around hitter for most of the year. Recently,
- 31:03Speaker 5: you know, some of those line drive hits weren't happening
- 31:07Speaker 5: with as much uh, you know, frequency, maybe tapping in
- 31:11Speaker 5: more to the power. I think, as you know, some
- 31:13Speaker 5: of his power numbers are going to be the best
- 31:15Speaker 5: on the Guardians. They really don't hit for much pop,
- 31:19Speaker 5: and hopefully he you know this, this is a guy
- 31:21Speaker 5: that could go there and really contribute to a team
- 31:24Speaker 5: that's going places whereas here maybe not so much. And
- 31:28Speaker 5: he's kind of you know, rush to the major leagues.
- 31:31Speaker 5: It's well documented, and you talk about the you know,
- 31:35Speaker 5: ability to steal bases. It's best learned down below, not
- 31:38Speaker 5: at the big league level. So if you never get
- 31:40Speaker 5: the confidence to do it when the pressure is a
- 31:42Speaker 5: little lower, you're probably not going to get it when
- 31:44Speaker 5: the guys can really catch and throw up here, you know,
- 31:48Speaker 5: and he's unfortunately, he's a very easy player to root for.
- 31:51Speaker 5: I should say that great attitude filled some of the
- 31:54Speaker 5: leadership void on the flip side. Probably also a non
- 31:57Speaker 5: tender candidate at least an average chance of that over
- 32:01Speaker 5: the winner, you know, maybe a salary of upwards of
- 32:03Speaker 5: eight million, you know, with a raise per the arbitration process,
- 32:07Speaker 5: making five this year. So the Guardians will figure that out.
- 32:11Speaker 5: And I wish Show the best because he did put
- 32:13Speaker 5: it in his best effort, always ran hard, you know,
- 32:16Speaker 5: and hopefully he takes off over there and becomes a
- 32:18Speaker 5: fixture for them.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree that play made for his third home
- 32:22Speaker 1: run robbery will be etched in the minds of Angel
- 32:25Speaker 1: fans forever. My goodness, that is just risking life and
- 32:29Speaker 1: limb to do what he did that night. The final
- 32:31Speaker 1: two trades, I guess you'd classify them as minor Brent Suitor,
- 32:35Speaker 1: the lefty reliever Veteran went to Atlanta for third baseman
- 32:38Speaker 1: Nacho Alvarez, and as Mark mentioned earlier, Kirby Yates the
- 32:43Speaker 1: Pittsburgh for a right hander named Kyle Robinson. Mark, anything
- 32:47Speaker 1: in the profiles of these two guys that jumped out
- 32:49Speaker 1: at you.
- 32:52Speaker 5: Not Schoe Alvarez Junior. I think another local guy I
- 32:57Speaker 5: was highly rated for the Braves prospect. I think he's
- 33:01Speaker 5: dealt with a number of injuries and didn't really click
- 33:03Speaker 5: when he did get a look in the big leagues.
- 33:07Speaker 5: He's a guy that I'll have to wait and see
- 33:09Speaker 5: on It looks like the defenses maybe outpacing the bat.
- 33:13Speaker 5: I didn't see tremendous bat speed and and the clips
- 33:16Speaker 5: I did see, but you know, I'm not I don't
- 33:20Speaker 5: have a wealth of stuff to go off of them,
- 33:22Speaker 5: kind of you know, scratching a clawing for what I can.
- 33:26Speaker 5: As far as the Yates return, Kyle Robinson, you know
- 33:28Speaker 5: I said earlier he's a big boy. Hopefully he throws gas.
- 33:32Speaker 5: I know he does throw, you know, nineties, but who doesn't.
- 33:35Speaker 5: And some command issues. But as far as Kirby's value, uh,
- 33:40Speaker 5: you know, wasn't very high. So that's that's not unexpected
- 33:45Speaker 5: what I am interested in. Uh. I know we can
- 33:47Speaker 5: get back to this, but nice attempt by Francis Romero.
- 33:52Speaker 5: A couple uh type machine type tweets and lots of
- 33:57Speaker 5: interest in Jorge. Uh, I gotta I gotta Pinocchio on
- 34:02Speaker 5: that one.
- 34:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I think if I think if there was an
- 34:06Speaker 3: interest in oris Celia would have been it would have
- 34:08Speaker 3: been taken up on by the Angels, who I can't
- 34:10Speaker 3: imagine will have him on the roster for the rest
- 34:12Speaker 3: of the season.
- 34:13Speaker 2: But I don't know.
- 34:16Speaker 1: I do want to close the show with a little
- 34:19Speaker 1: conversation about the interim general manager. Now, I didn't clip
- 34:22Speaker 1: of any of the video from today, but we did
- 34:24Speaker 1: ask him if this, uh, if he's feeling more confident
- 34:28Speaker 1: or any feelings more positive about maybe staying here long term.
- 34:33Speaker 1: I don't know, Sam, I just got the feeling when
- 34:34Speaker 1: you make the moves like you did today, you know
- 34:36Speaker 1: he's not just going to cut and run. I think
- 34:39Speaker 1: he's committing himself to this organization when you have a
- 34:42Speaker 1: daylight today, he sure sounded like he's very much open
- 34:45Speaker 1: to staying whether I think that's still gonna include hiring
- 34:49Speaker 1: a general manager. So maybe the Angels will end up
- 34:52Speaker 1: with a structure like the Dodgers, with the president of
- 34:54Speaker 1: Baseball option a general manager. From what you heard today, Sam,
- 34:58Speaker 1: do you think Moe was here to stay?
- 35:00Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 35:01Speaker 1: I do.
- 35:01Speaker 3: I mean I think he I certainly think he wants that.
- 35:03Speaker 3: It's a I imagine that, you know, Like, I think
- 35:06Speaker 3: he's being cautious because that's probably has still a contract
- 35:09Speaker 3: that is he set to expire, probably hasn't been agreed to.
- 35:12Speaker 3: And you know, I'm like, I think when he says
- 35:14Speaker 3: we got to sit down with Molly and Artie, that's
- 35:17Speaker 3: that's reflective of, you know, kind of dotting the eyes
- 35:20Speaker 3: and crossing the t's on figuring that out and also
- 35:23Speaker 3: probably making sure it is something he wants. I mean,
- 35:25Speaker 3: it's only been here six weeks, and I think that,
- 35:27Speaker 3: you know, there's still some some runway to maybe making
- 35:30Speaker 3: a decision like that, But I mean, clearly it seems
- 35:32Speaker 3: to me that he wants to do it. I think
- 35:35Speaker 3: the allure of being the savior of this team is
- 35:39Speaker 3: a hard thing to pass up, especially when you consider
- 35:41Speaker 3: the way things maybe ended for him in Saint Louis,
- 35:43Speaker 3: where it was a little bit unceremonious, and you know,
- 35:47Speaker 3: even the Cardinals kind of figured things out right, you know,
- 35:49Speaker 3: to some extent, right after he left. So you know,
- 35:51Speaker 3: this is a legacy, this is a legacy thing. To
- 35:53Speaker 3: fix the Angels would be what you remember it for
- 35:56Speaker 3: if you do it. And I can't imagine, you know,
- 36:00Speaker 3: when you still have that that desire in your life
- 36:03Speaker 3: to work and to be successful, that like if you
- 36:05Speaker 3: have that chance, I mean, those does don't come around
- 36:07Speaker 3: very often. And so you know, he's done the first
- 36:09Speaker 3: step here of kind of you know, at least, you know,
- 36:13Speaker 3: changing the dynamic of ownership in the front office in
- 36:15Speaker 3: a way that we haven't seen here in a long time.
- 36:17Speaker 3: And I think there are maybe some more steps to
- 36:19Speaker 3: be taken, So I clearly think he wants that. Also,
- 36:21Speaker 3: one small correction. Joey Dell's arm value is what's rated
- 36:24Speaker 3: at the bottom two percent style. It's his arm strength
- 36:27Speaker 3: is still somewhat high. So it's one to make sure
- 36:28Speaker 3: I correct to that because interesting. Yeah, so it's he's
- 36:32Speaker 3: maybe accuracy elements of it are in as good but
- 36:35Speaker 3: or decision making. But yes, it's just a small correction.
- 36:37Speaker 5: Right, Thank you, Mike. I had one question for you
- 36:40Speaker 5: before we go. It looked like a fairly modest crowd
- 36:44Speaker 5: for them is on Sundays. Oh man, could you hear
- 36:49Speaker 5: that from work?
- 36:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it wasn't as much as he did
- 36:52Speaker 1: the previous weekend. Yeah, I got we'd be remiss to
- 36:55Speaker 1: not mention Walbert Urania's six shutout of innings against the
- 36:58Speaker 1: Brewers Sunday. Wow, that was a heck of a game.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Miz was popping it he I think he threw seventeen
- 37:04Speaker 1: hundred miles an hour pitches in the first few innings,
- 37:06Speaker 1: but I think the heat certainly drained him at least
- 37:09Speaker 1: if a couple ticks off that radar gun. He really
- 37:12Speaker 1: struggled with the mound, and Sam and I actually both
- 37:15Speaker 1: talked to him after the game. As you know, the
- 37:17Speaker 1: mis his extensions probably right up there with Tyler Glass.
- 37:20Speaker 1: Now I didn't look it up, and I'm assuming it's
- 37:22Speaker 1: one of the longest crazy extensions. So yeah, his landing
- 37:27Speaker 1: spot is further down the mound than probably anybody who's
- 37:30Speaker 1: thrown off that mound this year. So by the third inning,
- 37:33Speaker 1: I believe he dug a pretty deep hole and they
- 37:35Speaker 1: had to have the ground screw come out twice fill it,
- 37:38Speaker 1: pack it down, and he was still having problems with it.
- 37:42Speaker 1: And as I think Sam ended up writing a story
- 37:44Speaker 1: off it, that's a huge injury concern. When you're throwing
- 37:48Speaker 1: that hard and your your torque and you're lower, you're
- 37:50Speaker 1: getting that much of your lower body into your pitches.
- 37:52Speaker 1: So that was a bit of an interesting day. Yeah,
- 37:54Speaker 1: the crowd was a little disappointing. I'm going to attribute
- 37:57Speaker 1: to the to the heat. I don't know, Sam to
- 38:00Speaker 1: the tarpsof guys takes Sunday off. I hadn't, I hadn't
- 38:03Speaker 1: been out there.
- 38:03Speaker 3: Maybe, you know, day games are usually a bit of
- 38:06Speaker 3: a different crowd, so especially in that he did especially,
- 38:09Speaker 3: I mean, I think, you know, I don't blame people
- 38:11Speaker 3: for not going Angels games. I mean, at this point,
- 38:13Speaker 3: why would you. I mean, I guess it's to see
- 38:16Speaker 3: Jacob Mizerawski, but that would be the reason to go yesterday.
- 38:18Speaker 3: But you know, I don't. I don't know if if
- 38:21Speaker 3: you know he's not he's if you really cared about baseball.
- 38:24Speaker 3: I think he's kind of a superstar name at this point,
- 38:26Speaker 3: but he's still growing into that. Uh you know, it's
- 38:28Speaker 3: not like the biggest his name is not yet the
- 38:31Speaker 3: biggest like maybe ticket draw that you'll you'll see in baseball,
- 38:34Speaker 3: even though he might be the best pitcher out there.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and boy, Trek scuobl would have been a nice
- 38:39Speaker 1: addition of their rotation. Are the Dodgers running baseball I
- 38:46Speaker 1: think the Tigers can take a little credit for contributing
- 38:49Speaker 1: the Dodgers running baseball this week. I don't know why
- 38:53Speaker 1: they felt like they had to make that trade. It
- 38:55Speaker 1: was Saturday, right Saturday night. I mean, they had a
- 38:58Speaker 1: full day and a half for the deadline, you know,
- 39:01Speaker 1: play that offer against another offer.
- 39:04Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 39:04Speaker 1: I'm sure there are more than one other, you know,
- 39:06Speaker 1: I'm sure there are more than the Brewers and the
- 39:08Speaker 1: Dodgers in the mix, you know. I they got a
- 39:14Speaker 1: good player and hope for sure, But the other two
- 39:18Speaker 1: I'm not sold on. I just think even though he's
- 39:20Speaker 1: a rental, my goodness, he's the best pitcher in baseball.
- 39:23Speaker 1: He increases your chances of winning World Series for the
- 39:25Speaker 1: team that gets them by a considerable amount. And as
- 39:30Speaker 1: Bill Shakan wrote a really good column on this in
- 39:32Speaker 1: The Times this morning, it's like the Brewers are. They
- 39:36Speaker 1: are a model organization. They have done everything right. Their
- 39:39Speaker 1: organization is the best, their farm system the best in baseball.
- 39:42Speaker 1: They do it on you know, in the smallest market
- 39:45Speaker 1: in the country, with a tiny payroll. When are you
- 39:48Speaker 1: going to go all in? When are you going to
- 39:50Speaker 1: really try to win the World Series? To me, this
- 39:53Speaker 1: was it. Schooble was the perfect fit for them. You know,
- 39:55Speaker 1: imagine going into a five game series with those two
- 39:58Speaker 1: beasts and have to beat them, and they still have
- 40:01Speaker 1: to score runs. They scored one run in each game
- 40:04Speaker 1: in the NLCS against the Dodgers last year. I just
- 40:07Speaker 1: thought this was the year to do it. I'm no
- 40:10Speaker 1: Brewer fan, I'm no closet Brewer fan. I just felt
- 40:12Speaker 1: like it would have been really good, cool for baseball
- 40:15Speaker 1: for the Brewers to get schoolball and not the Dodgers,
- 40:18Speaker 1: because you know, and imagine, you know, good luck Dave
- 40:21Speaker 1: Roberts telling show, Hey and Glass now and Rokie again,
- 40:25Speaker 1: you're not going to be part of the playoff rotation,
- 40:28Speaker 1: but boy are they running baseball? I don't think so.
- 40:32Speaker 1: It's good to have a villain. But if they don't
- 40:36Speaker 1: win their third straight World Series is going to be
- 40:38Speaker 1: a massive upset or disappointment. All Right, We're going to
- 40:41Speaker 1: close the show with that. Hey, thanks for joining us,
- 40:43Speaker 1: Mark Trumblin, Sam Blumber is always thanks for watching, Thanks
