- 0:07Speaker 1: Jake.
- 0:07Speaker 2: We'll get to his last name in just a second.
- 0:09Speaker 2: From John Boy Media is joining us. Thanks to Bamadi
- 0:12Speaker 2: Jones for joining us in hour number one. He is
- 0:16Speaker 2: the host of Talking Baseball with Trevor Plouffe. Am I
- 0:19Speaker 2: saying that last name.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Correctly, nailed it, nail all.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Right, and also talking Yanks and I can't wait just
- 0:25Speaker 2: what I need another Yankee fan on the zoom here?
- 0:28Speaker 2: But Jake, how do you pronounce your last name? Because
- 0:30Speaker 2: I asked you this before we started. I asked you
- 0:32Speaker 2: a question and you answered the question about your last
- 0:35Speaker 2: name with a question.
- 0:36Speaker 3: So so story Lee, I think is where we traditionally
- 0:40Speaker 3: land story Realey. See, I don't even know. I think
- 0:42Speaker 3: I just told you story aale before we have on
- 0:44Speaker 3: the mics, and then story al comes up that man,
- 0:47Speaker 3: I it's one of those things. Just as a little kid.
- 0:50Speaker 3: You heard all of it, and I don't really care,
- 0:53Speaker 3: and nobody in my family gets that like Italian tough
- 0:56Speaker 3: about it. So I don't know. Story Ellie.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Sure, yeah, but it's your fucking la. Listen, Okay, my
- 1:01Speaker 2: last name was Wiener. I heard all of it.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Okay, you didn't hear anything. Just how you bron out
- 1:06Speaker 1: your last night.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Call me, Jake Wiener. I don't know. I'm good with
- 1:10Speaker 3: I'm good.
- 1:10Speaker 2: With all of it, all right, Jake Wiener is with
- 1:12Speaker 2: us here Odd Steve Gotson company, Jake. Before we get
- 1:18Speaker 2: to I know, we want to discuss some baseball, but
- 1:20Speaker 2: I'm wondering just more of a macro thing here with
- 1:23Speaker 2: the game.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Are you in favor of someone who loves baseball?
- 1:26Speaker 2: Would you want to see a salary cap installed in
- 1:29Speaker 2: Major League Baseball?
- 1:30Speaker 3: So I do not. I I originally did when when
- 1:33Speaker 3: we first got into this, As you know, we kind
- 1:36Speaker 3: of got thrown into the industry by accident a little
- 1:39Speaker 3: bit because I love the beauty of sports. I love
- 1:42Speaker 3: you know. I that the bottom part of baseball is
- 1:46Speaker 3: a problem, and I believe in competition and a fair
- 1:49Speaker 3: playing field. But a salary camp isn't the answer to that.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Like that's other sports have that, and we see teams
- 1:56Speaker 3: that still struggle year in year out with it that
- 1:58Speaker 3: it's how you run your organization. And as we got
- 2:02Speaker 3: close to the players, I guess this is the part
- 2:04Speaker 3: that I don't know if I've been too blinded by it.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Players will never accept a salary cap and when I
- 2:09Speaker 3: saw the Otani contract and the way players have talked
- 2:13Speaker 3: about it, like that's why so they they will never
- 2:17Speaker 3: and there's not there really isn't a need to except
- 2:20Speaker 3: kind of we just see it in the other sports
- 2:22Speaker 3: and like, oh, that's what they do, but that doesn't
- 2:24Speaker 3: mean it works. So no, I am not.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Is there a small part of you that wonders if
- 2:29Speaker 2: it was capped, if the Dodgers would be this good?
- 2:33Speaker 1: Yeah, right of course, yes.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Come on, man, it's no I you know, I know
- 2:38Speaker 3: we're gonna get into a little bit of recent Yankee nostalgia.
- 2:41Speaker 4: But like.
- 2:43Speaker 3: The way that people talk about the Dodgers are kind
- 2:45Speaker 3: of the Yankees teams I grew up with that. I
- 2:48Speaker 3: don't send a lot of hate towards the Dodgers there.
- 2:51Speaker 3: They're One advantage that I still don't know how I
- 2:54Speaker 3: feel about is if every good Asian player wants to
- 2:58Speaker 3: sign there instead of somewhere else. That's kind of tough
- 3:01Speaker 3: because by the way they won the last WBC, Japan
- 3:04Speaker 3: did so that is the one advantage. Otherwise they can
- 3:07Speaker 3: do whatever, like it was called the Coen Tax. The
- 3:11Speaker 3: Yankees used to be that team. So I don't get
- 3:14Speaker 3: as bothered by it as everyone else. And then my
- 3:16Speaker 3: jab to the Dodgers on the way out. If IKF
- 3:18Speaker 3: gets a secondary lead, they don't win the last World Series.
- 3:21Speaker 1: So nice Jet, well done.
- 3:24Speaker 5: But Jake, you compare it to the Yankees teams that
- 3:28Speaker 5: we grew up watching, and they were the problem, you know,
- 3:31Speaker 5: back then, but they were also built on homegrown players
- 3:36Speaker 5: that they then paid. They weren't built on Oh that's
- 3:39Speaker 5: the best player available from that market, I'm going to
- 3:42Speaker 5: sign him. Because you look at this Dodgers lineup top
- 3:44Speaker 5: to bottom and it's like two guys that came up
- 3:47Speaker 5: through their system.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Yeah, you're right. I guess the where they deserve more
- 3:54Speaker 3: credit is eight. They're ahead of pretty much every organization
- 3:58Speaker 3: on every front. So like they've had aspects, they just
- 4:00Speaker 3: trade them like they they traded for Mookie bets that
- 4:03Speaker 3: one didn't end up hurting them. And then the other
- 4:06Speaker 3: thing where they do deserve credit is yes, they're spending money,
- 4:09Speaker 3: but how many teams do we talk about them having
- 4:11Speaker 3: that one contract that kills them. The Dodgers don't really
- 4:15Speaker 3: have that. Like, yes, they get a little bit more
- 4:17Speaker 3: flexibility around their pitching, where they had a ton of injuries,
- 4:20Speaker 3: and they could take a chance on Glass now they
- 4:22Speaker 3: could take a chance on Snell even though they have
- 4:24Speaker 3: an injury history where other teams don't have to do that.
- 4:27Speaker 3: But Matt Freddie Freeman was a free agent and didn't
- 4:30Speaker 3: want to go there, remember the hole. He wanted to
- 4:32Speaker 3: stay in Atlanta. Like they have where they have spent
- 4:36Speaker 3: their money, They've done really good at it, so they
- 4:39Speaker 3: they deserve credit on all fronts. And yes, it's you know,
- 4:43Speaker 3: there's a lot of teams that wish they could spend
- 4:45Speaker 3: half of what the Dodgers do, So I I do
- 4:47Speaker 3: get that part of it. But the Dodgers, no one
- 4:50Speaker 3: should be knocking what they've done like they've They've crushed it.
- 4:53Speaker 6: Gay Dodgers clear best team in baseball. They add Kyle
- 4:56Speaker 6: Tucker Edwin Diaz to kind of address the only weaknesses
- 4:59Speaker 6: they have. It feels like this year going into the season,
- 5:03Speaker 6: the gap between like teams two through twelve is razor thin,
- 5:08Speaker 6: and it just kind of comes down to what you prefer.
- 5:10Speaker 6: Who do you think is the second best team in
- 5:13Speaker 6: baseball as we enter this season.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Man, we just did power rankings because as oh wow,
- 5:18Speaker 3: I'm sure Stu knows like that click has worked throughout
- 5:22Speaker 3: time and it is such a losing exercise, especially right
- 5:26Speaker 3: now with where baseball is at, that I honestly and
- 5:29Speaker 3: this wasn't for the click, This wasn't for the view.
- 5:32Speaker 3: When I was looking at all the teams, the team
- 5:34Speaker 3: I feel the second most confident about is the Milwaukee
- 5:37Speaker 3: Brewers because I know on the pitching side of the ball,
- 5:41Speaker 3: they are advanced above most other teams, and they actually
- 5:45Speaker 3: have talented like ms Rowski's a freak show, Brandon Woodriff
- 5:49Speaker 3: when you actually go through his numbers, who he has
- 5:51Speaker 3: been since the twenty twenties, like he's the leader, That
- 5:54Speaker 3: they have a great bullpen every year, they catch the
- 5:56Speaker 3: ball every year and between contrarasts between Cherie, between Yelich
- 6:01Speaker 3: and then everyone else on their team who runs well,
- 6:04Speaker 3: catches the ball well, and does something else well. Like
- 6:07Speaker 3: I know that they're gonna put a good product out
- 6:10Speaker 3: there that I put them second on my power rankings,
- 6:12Speaker 3: and I power rankings. Where it gets tricky is if
- 6:15Speaker 3: you just look at talent on paper, I don't know
- 6:17Speaker 3: if I pick them, but when I look at the
- 6:19Speaker 3: uniform and who they have, I do.
- 6:22Speaker 5: Who's a team that you're kind of lower on that.
- 6:24Speaker 5: A lot of people are are really.
- 6:26Speaker 3: High on Ooh, this is makes the fun part. Yeah right,
- 6:33Speaker 3: let's see. The team that got the most mad at
- 6:35Speaker 3: me was the New York Metropolitans. I had them at eleventh.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Right when you say they got mad at you, Jake,
- 6:41Speaker 2: I'm sorry to cut you off.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Like what happened there?
- 6:43Speaker 2: You put out the power rankings and someone from the
- 6:45Speaker 2: Mets reach out to you.
- 6:46Speaker 1: What happened?
- 6:47Speaker 3: So you well know, like we're it's a losing game
- 6:50Speaker 3: and where our social media team couldn't get more excited
- 6:53Speaker 3: when we do power rankings because.
- 6:54Speaker 2: We're right, because they know they know they're mindless and
- 6:56Speaker 2: fake and they mean nothing.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, preseason based ranking. Really you're really in it
- 7:03Speaker 3: that the Mets fans like they arguably had a top
- 7:07Speaker 3: three off season, but they're also okay, if I'm respecting
- 7:11Speaker 3: the Brewers Jersey, I still see a little something with
- 7:14Speaker 3: the Mets Jersey, and they had an epic collapse last
- 7:18Speaker 3: year while also losing their franchise leader in home runs
- 7:21Speaker 3: like the Lindor injury. Now going into the season, they
- 7:26Speaker 3: have a lot of positions that are open in different
- 7:29Speaker 3: ways that like I shouldn't be in love with the Mets.
- 7:33Speaker 3: I see, there's a lot of talent there, but that
- 7:36Speaker 3: was probably the one that people were the most hot about.
- 7:39Speaker 3: But that could also just be Mets Yankee stuff.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Taylor and Mike have been annoying me because they're upset
- 7:46Speaker 2: about the vibes around this Yankee team because they are
- 7:49Speaker 2: running back basically the same exact team as they had
- 7:52Speaker 2: last year. How do you feel about the vibes of
- 7:54Speaker 2: the Yankees And can you tell Taylor and Mikey to
- 7:57Speaker 2: shut the fuck up?
- 7:58Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 7:59Speaker 2: Wow, No, I mean, I love you guys, but vibes
- 8:03Speaker 2: the Yankees running back the same team.
- 8:05Speaker 1: I mean, the team is good.
- 8:07Speaker 3: The team is good. And that's where it's two different
- 8:10Speaker 3: things here. It's the Yankee fans we're told to be
- 8:12Speaker 3: and it's the Yankee fans we are now, Like we're
- 8:16Speaker 3: talking about the Dodgers on a different pantheon, which, okay,
- 8:19Speaker 3: that should be strike one right there. And then if
- 8:22Speaker 3: you go through teams two through twelve kind of like
- 8:25Speaker 3: Taylor mentioned, like they're the same right now and that's
- 8:29Speaker 3: not what the Yankees are supposed to be. So in
- 8:31Speaker 3: that way, it's right. In another way, they do have
- 8:36Speaker 3: some pitching depth and some you know, they had technically
- 8:39Speaker 3: the best lineup last year, which there's some judge funny
- 8:42Speaker 3: business math in there, but they also have that guy.
- 8:45Speaker 3: So let's take the funny business math. And I just
- 8:48Speaker 3: think maybe Baseball's I don't want to say Baseball's problem
- 8:52Speaker 3: right now, because there's a couple of them. But it's
- 8:54Speaker 3: two seasons. It's survived the first half of the season
- 8:58Speaker 3: and see how good your team is, and then the
- 9:00Speaker 3: trade deadline fill your holes. The Yankees brought in a
- 9:03Speaker 3: whole different back end of the bullpen last year, like
- 9:05Speaker 3: you can add at the deadline now if you're willing
- 9:09Speaker 3: to give up actual prospect capital. And the Yankees actually
- 9:12Speaker 3: do have some real prospect capital this year, not the
- 9:15Speaker 3: Yankees heype machine prospect capital.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Which team in Major League Baseball top to bottom has
- 9:20Speaker 2: the best pitching staff?
- 9:21Speaker 1: Is that obvious? Is it the Dodgers or.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Yeah, the Dodgers aren't an interesting scale. I guess if
- 9:27Speaker 3: it's not.
- 9:28Speaker 2: That you talk about baseball and exclude the Dodgers from
- 9:30Speaker 2: the conversation, that's.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Kind of what it is, and that's that's insane. But
- 9:35Speaker 3: I would say the two teams that jump out are
- 9:37Speaker 3: Seattle and the Phillies. The Phillies off, Zach Wheeler comes
- 9:41Speaker 3: back and is that Zach Wheeler. Their bullpen on the
- 9:44Speaker 3: back end is actually stronger than it's looked like in
- 9:46Speaker 3: past years with Doron and they Brad Keller, who's kind
- 9:50Speaker 3: of one of those new starters who's transitioning to the
- 9:53Speaker 3: bullpen very well. And Seattle like they're somehow we've become
- 9:57Speaker 3: bored with their starting pitching group, but they're there and
- 10:01Speaker 3: you know, they kind of made their first leap next year.
- 10:04Speaker 3: This is kind of the real test of like, all right,
- 10:06Speaker 3: who are they going to be?
- 10:07Speaker 1: Yeap?
- 10:08Speaker 2: Seattle's just boring, right, Like, we don't care about Seattle.
- 10:11Speaker 2: It's so far removed from all the other states, Like
- 10:14Speaker 2: it's just up there in the Northwest. It's by Canada.
- 10:16Speaker 2: It's close to Vancouver. I mean, the Seahawks won a
- 10:18Speaker 2: Super Bowl and everyone yawned.
- 10:20Speaker 3: You know, it's an interesting because you know they got
- 10:23Speaker 3: that Pat the twelfth Man, right, No, man, it's bizarre.
- 10:27Speaker 3: I had a weird I'm on my couch last night
- 10:29Speaker 3: and I see the video of Julio Rodriguez coming off
- 10:32Speaker 3: the coming off the team Bus for Team dr And
- 10:34Speaker 3: I'm like, okay, so we've got one of the most
- 10:36Speaker 3: handsome fellas on the planet place maybe my favorite position
- 10:40Speaker 3: defensively as well as anyone. And it's like, and okay,
- 10:43Speaker 3: they're Catcher's big dumper, Like what what simulation is this that? Yes,
- 10:48Speaker 3: there should be something a little sexier about Seattle.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Right, except you feel like you need a passport when
- 10:54Speaker 1: you travel there.
- 10:54Speaker 2: I mean it's a different place. Yes, I can tell it.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Put that on the poll. Do you need a passport
- 10:59Speaker 2: when you travel to seat?
- 11:00Speaker 4: Go ahead, Jake.
- 11:01Speaker 6: It feels like me and mikey a align on most
- 11:04Speaker 6: things when it comes to Yankees. One of the things
- 11:07Speaker 6: recently that we kind of had a disagreement on. I
- 11:10Speaker 6: don't think CC Sabathia is Jersey retirement great when it
- 11:14Speaker 6: comes to the Yankees, And I'm curious where you kind
- 11:16Speaker 6: of fall there.
- 11:18Speaker 3: It's CC listening, No, I man, I don't know. I
- 11:24Speaker 3: what CC Sabathia represented for the Yankees coming over from
- 11:27Speaker 3: OH nine winning that World Series. Who he was as
- 11:31Speaker 3: a leader, and I guess where he is in baseball history.
- 11:34Speaker 3: The thing that we've referenced on talking Yanks, because you know,
- 11:38Speaker 3: CC when you look at the career stats and all
- 11:40Speaker 3: pitchers are in this place right now that the Hall
- 11:43Speaker 3: of Fame is gonna have to kind of change how
- 11:45Speaker 3: they look at starting pitchers. CC is the third lefty
- 11:48Speaker 3: ever to strike out three thousand hitters. And when you
- 11:51Speaker 3: think about that, you're like, ok, I think Carlton and
- 11:54Speaker 3: Randy Johnson. So like, I don't know who c C.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Sabathia is in the game. I get that there's a
- 12:01Speaker 3: Yankee side to that argument that you know, if you
- 12:03Speaker 3: started ranking each Yankee by uniform number, CEC's probably towards
- 12:08Speaker 3: the bottom third there. There's a couple others behind CEC.
- 12:11Speaker 3: That it is what it is that like, I don't know,
- 12:15Speaker 3: I'm I'm not out here to knock who Reggie Jackson
- 12:17Speaker 3: was because I didn't feel like who he was in
- 12:19Speaker 3: that moment. Cecy's larger than life. He represents New York. Well,
- 12:23Speaker 3: he's still around the team. That it's I don't know,
- 12:25Speaker 3: I'm not punching pillows at home, Like can you believe this?
- 12:29Speaker 3: Like and it's a fine number to retire, like in.
- 12:31Speaker 1: That when do you punch pillows at home?
- 12:34Speaker 2: What makes you like we're talking yeah.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Uh that's uh no, I'm not going there, not going But.
- 12:43Speaker 1: How many of those strikeouts came as a Yankee?
- 12:46Speaker 2: You know, it's like you hang around the team, doesn't
- 12:48Speaker 2: mean you get your jersey retired.
- 12:50Speaker 1: I mean it's the Yankees, man.
- 12:52Speaker 3: I know, I know, And maybe maybe I'm part of
- 12:54Speaker 3: the problem now that I this is you Yankees have
- 12:58Speaker 3: let each little half inch that we've gotten to this point.
- 13:01Speaker 3: I don't know of all my qualms with the Yankees
- 13:04Speaker 3: organization in doctoring CC more into the family, I'm I
- 13:08Speaker 3: have no qualms with that, Stu.
- 13:10Speaker 6: As a Yankee fan, it feels sacrilegious. When I'm walking around,
- 13:13Speaker 6: I'm like, hey, maybe we didn't need to retire Paul
- 13:16Speaker 6: O'Neil's number.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Yeah, well yeah, it's act religious.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I think he might be more deserving.
- 13:23Speaker 2: But if I'm sitting there and I'm rattling off Yankee
- 13:26Speaker 2: greats in terms of pictures, it's gonna take me a
- 13:28Speaker 2: while before I get to C. C.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Sabbathia, you know.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Ah, So that's where I get caught up. And now,
- 13:34Speaker 3: if we're really doing this, like the Yankees, pitching lifetime
- 13:38Speaker 3: is a lot slimmer than the hitting that I think
- 13:40Speaker 3: CC might crack that rotation. Are you a Whitey Ford guy?
- 13:44Speaker 1: I am a white I just it's so funny.
- 13:46Speaker 2: I just wrote down Whitey Ford on a piece of
- 13:49Speaker 2: I didn't finish it.
- 13:50Speaker 1: I wrote fo R. But that just reminds me that
- 13:52Speaker 1: it's Ford.
- 13:54Speaker 3: I've got other illusions for it. No, man, this is
- 13:56Speaker 3: where I don't have the historian side yet. I think
- 13:59Speaker 3: that's gonna be like my upcoming midlife crisis where I
- 14:02Speaker 3: deep dive into all of the Yankee stats and I can,
- 14:04Speaker 3: but like, I don't know. I heard I heard Kellerman
- 14:07Speaker 3: and Simmons the other day debating if Gidrey's number should
- 14:10Speaker 3: be retired, and I don't know. I see him show up.
- 14:13Speaker 3: He's got a sick nickname. Some of the numbers are
- 14:16Speaker 3: I mean, comparing Gidrey and Sabathia. I can't. I can't
- 14:23Speaker 3: have that conversation currently.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Here's the way I like to do these things, Jake.
- 14:27Speaker 2: If I were to ask you, okay, one game scenario
- 14:29Speaker 2: start for your life, Okay, Ceec Sabbathi or David Cone?
- 14:33Speaker 1: Who you take it?
- 14:34Speaker 3: Oh?
- 14:36Speaker 1: You're taking code? I don't.
- 14:40Speaker 3: I mean what age? Am I getting them at?
- 14:42Speaker 1: Prime? You're getting prime of both Okay, did.
- 14:45Speaker 3: The Yankees have prime Cone?
- 14:47Speaker 2: Because the follow ups here, I mean, just one picture.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Choose what Jesus, what was your question? What was the
- 14:53Speaker 2: second question?
- 14:53Speaker 3: Did their prime on the Yankees?
- 14:55Speaker 2: There cecs prime on the Yankees, David conees prime on
- 15:00Speaker 2: the Yankees.
- 15:02Speaker 3: I think I would go cee cee just that when
- 15:04Speaker 3: he initially came over, he comes off that like Milwaukee Run.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Where do you remember he took the ball every third
- 15:11Speaker 3: day for the Brewers, just to do it like that's
- 15:14Speaker 3: He's one of the last dying breeds to ever do that.
- 15:17Speaker 3: And I feel like Coney when he came to the Yankees.
- 15:19Speaker 3: He was David Cohne, but he was a little older
- 15:21Speaker 3: David Cone. That that that's all I'm going off.
- 15:23Speaker 1: I think older David Cone was better. It was Cagy.
- 15:25Speaker 1: I mean he.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Was like, hey, I've got no again, Like this is
- 15:29Speaker 3: the beauty. We could do this at the end of
- 15:31Speaker 3: a bar all day and there's right or wrong and
- 15:33Speaker 3: that's Hey, that's the beauty of it.
- 15:35Speaker 4: Let's doings.
- 15:37Speaker 1: We'll get the blind ranking for the second. I can't
- 15:39Speaker 1: wait for this. C C.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Sabathia game for your life, big game for the Yankees. Usena,
- 15:44Speaker 2: CC Sabathia.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Who are you going with?
- 15:47Speaker 3: Oh Moose. Moose was a bad man.
- 15:50Speaker 1: He was a badass.
- 15:51Speaker 3: Yeah, he was such a Stanford guy, but like out
- 15:55Speaker 3: of his mind a little bit. I'll take Moose.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Oh your go Moose? Okay, how about Wells? How about Wells?
- 16:04Speaker 2: There's too many Yankee pictures. That's what I'm trying to say.
- 16:06Speaker 2: My larger point is CC Sabathi is not one of
- 16:08Speaker 2: the five greatest Yankee pitchers of all time.
- 16:10Speaker 1: He's just not.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I like in my head CC over Wells. But
- 16:15Speaker 3: this is where I'd have to I'd have to go
- 16:17Speaker 3: through the numbers a little more, you.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Know, numbers, numbers. Yeah.
- 16:23Speaker 3: I like the mound presence. I like the six nine,
- 16:26Speaker 3: three hundred pounds Sabathia coming downhill ed.
- 16:28Speaker 2: You Yeah, I like that. I won't even go to Pettitt.
- 16:32Speaker 2: I know you'll choose Pettit. That's an easy one for you, right, Yes,
- 16:34Speaker 2: Pettit over everyone.
- 16:36Speaker 3: How might take Andy Pettit today? You see him in
- 16:38Speaker 3: the Team USA jersey Like that's.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, looks like you'd still throw it.
- 16:41Speaker 6: Yeah, yes, Jake, on the topic of the entire MLB,
- 16:46Speaker 6: when you're looking at the MVP odds this season Judge
- 16:49Speaker 6: plus one eighty five, Otani minus one thirty five most
- 16:54Speaker 6: massive favorites and in one hundred and sixty two game
- 16:57Speaker 6: sample size, if you took those two out of the equation,
- 17:00Speaker 6: who would you take for a l n L MVP.
- 17:04Speaker 3: God, It's it's ridiculous. I'm on uh in the NL.
- 17:09Speaker 3: This is just a weird thing. I can't shake this offseason.
- 17:12Speaker 3: I'm on a weird Ronald Acuna Junior kick. I think
- 17:15Speaker 3: we've underappreciated how talented he is. He he has such
- 17:19Speaker 3: raw skills with speed, power, throwing arm like some of
- 17:23Speaker 3: some of those are insane. I didn't really He's a
- 17:26Speaker 3: career three point eighty one on bass guy that like
- 17:29Speaker 3: normally when you think of dudes that have that kind
- 17:31Speaker 3: of uh contact speed power, like, you don't think of
- 17:35Speaker 3: them as on base guys. That Ronald Cuney Junior is sneaky,
- 17:39Speaker 3: been the whole package. And when we last saw him
- 17:42Speaker 3: win the MVP, like he stole seventy plus bags that
- 17:46Speaker 3: I don't know Ronald Cooney Junior could be Like if
- 17:49Speaker 3: Otani's out, He's the guy in the AL you want
- 17:52Speaker 3: to lean towards cal Rally, but that felt Actually it's
- 17:55Speaker 3: Bobby Wit junior. Like Bobby Witt has probably the biggest
- 17:58Speaker 3: complaint with a Tani and judge that if those two
- 18:02Speaker 3: didn't exist, he would be the best player, the best
- 18:04Speaker 3: shortstop baseball lineage that like Bobby Wood Junior in a
- 18:08Speaker 3: different timeline is is he's Mike Trout. He's Mike Trout
- 18:12Speaker 3: ten years ago.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Who's the best manager in baseball?
- 18:16Speaker 4: Oh?
- 18:16Speaker 3: Best manager in baseball? Uh? I saw Tito Francona in
- 18:21Speaker 3: the crowd at the Arizona College basketball game last night,
- 18:24Speaker 3: and that did something for me. I'll go, hey, I'll
- 18:28Speaker 3: tie in my brewers. Pat Murphy man I the fact
- 18:31Speaker 3: that he actually manages. His quote last year about salth Freelick,
- 18:36Speaker 3: one of his best players, he said, I don't know,
- 18:38Speaker 3: he's five nine, a buck seventy, like he should have
- 18:41Speaker 3: his resume ready for him when baseball's done for him.
- 18:44Speaker 3: And it's like, what, like we don't get to see
- 18:47Speaker 3: guys actually do that any anymore, Like how MLB players
- 18:52Speaker 3: are treated and positivity and it's the toughest sport, so
- 18:55Speaker 3: let's keep it high like he was tough on them
- 18:58Speaker 3: and it worked he managed the team, So I'll go there.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Taylor put it on the poll.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Have you ever seen Terry Francona anywhere and it's done
- 19:06Speaker 2: something for you?
- 19:09Speaker 1: Like? What did it do?
- 19:10Speaker 4: Jake?
- 19:11Speaker 1: What happened when at the Arizona game?
- 19:14Speaker 3: Hey, so we're in this sports kind of show hold that.
- 19:18Speaker 3: I was like, I don't want to watch Arizona Iowa State.
- 19:20Speaker 3: And then I was like, you know what, I'm going
- 19:21Speaker 3: to watch Arizona Iowa State. And then they cut to
- 19:23Speaker 3: Tito in the crowd and I was like, he didn't
- 19:25Speaker 3: have to be there, but he went to the game.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Like Tito was me in that moment. We both went
- 19:30Speaker 3: to the game spiritually.
- 19:32Speaker 1: I love that.
- 19:34Speaker 4: Jay snorted.
- 19:35Speaker 1: I'm laughing so hard.
- 19:36Speaker 6: God, Jake could have said any name for that Brewer's manager,
- 19:40Speaker 6: and would you have been able to verify?
- 19:42Speaker 3: No?
- 19:43Speaker 2: Hell no, I mean Jesus Laus, it was ned Yost.
- 19:46Speaker 2: I think not Bob Belvin, maybe counsel. Did you got that?
- 19:51Speaker 3: What ned Yost? Sneaky had a I think he had
- 19:55Speaker 3: a Verizon or he had a cell phone commercial. But
- 19:57Speaker 3: if you didn't know baseball, you would have no idea.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Was ned Yos? He tells like a hunting story that
- 20:03Speaker 3: he like fell out of his hunting thing in a tree,
- 20:06Speaker 3: and you just if you have no clue, you'd have
- 20:08Speaker 3: no idea. It's ned yos. That one's mostly for me.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Who's the who's the baseball player or manager that you
- 20:14Speaker 2: haven't had on yet that you haven't had a chance
- 20:16Speaker 2: to interview that you're dying to get on your show,
- 20:19Speaker 2: one of your shows, I.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Mean Showhey would just be a wild ride if we
- 20:26Speaker 3: if we could, if we could really do it, if
- 20:29Speaker 3: we could.
- 20:29Speaker 1: But like most baseball conversations, let's exclude the Dodge. Let's
- 20:32Speaker 1: pick from another team.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Yes, I'll try to, I'll keep I'll try to keep
- 20:37Speaker 3: the Yankees out of it too, just just because that's
- 20:40Speaker 3: too close to the sun. Let's see the Padres have
- 20:44Speaker 3: some cool guys. Uh, give me is its schemes? No,
- 20:53Speaker 3: I don't even know. I feel like Mookie used to
- 20:55Speaker 3: be the personality guy that it was like, let's let's
- 20:57Speaker 3: get MOOKI in the mix. I don't know. Give me
- 21:03Speaker 3: cal Riley, give me that big old butt.
- 21:05Speaker 1: That's a good choice like that.
- 21:06Speaker 2: No, that's a great choice, right but Seattle, Yes.
- 21:10Speaker 3: Okay, so no international matters. How to bring it back
- 21:14Speaker 3: to the US, maybe Rome and Anthony. Who's that kid
- 21:17Speaker 3: going to be?
- 21:18Speaker 1: That kid was in my house.
- 21:20Speaker 2: That kid spent more time in my house growing up
- 21:22Speaker 2: here at South Florida. He's very good friends with my daughter.
- 21:24Speaker 2: I can get him on for you if you'd like.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Let me get him on here first, and then I'll
- 21:27Speaker 2: get him on for you.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Yeah, sir, I'm so worried. He's going to be amazing.
- 21:32Speaker 1: He is amazing. You're so worried about it, Jake.
- 21:36Speaker 6: I feel like a player who's in that kind of conversation.
- 21:39Speaker 6: Is Pete Crow Armstrong this season and what kind of
- 21:42Speaker 6: version the Cubs are going to get out of him?
- 21:45Speaker 6: How much of the Cubs success this year depends on
- 21:48Speaker 6: if they get first half PCA versus second half PCA.
- 21:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think it matters because PCA can play
- 21:56Speaker 3: defense at a premier position and he can run that.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Even if he's not killing it at the plate, he's
- 22:01Speaker 3: still a plus player. So I don't think he tanks them.
- 22:04Speaker 3: I just think he gives them the ability to be
- 22:07Speaker 3: an elite team that you know, first half PCA was
- 22:10Speaker 3: gonna be top three in the MVP.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Yeah, he was.
- 22:14Speaker 3: He was and That's my Cubs joke that I've kind
- 22:17Speaker 3: of stumbled into this offseason is it feels like they
- 22:20Speaker 3: have the second or third reserve for every All Star position.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Like when they do the All Star Game this year
- 22:26Speaker 3: and they go down the third baseline, you could see
- 22:28Speaker 3: the whole Cubs lineup, like none of them. You're like,
- 22:31Speaker 3: they should be the starter. But man, they're really good.
- 22:33Speaker 3: And I want the Cubs to work because like, aren't
- 22:35Speaker 3: they aren't they how they want? We want baseball to operate.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Like they've had some guys come up, they've signed some
- 22:41Speaker 3: free agents, they've made some big trades that like, I
- 22:44Speaker 3: want the Cubbies to work.
- 22:45Speaker 1: But all the Dodgers are the starters. That's the problem, right.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Yeah, so if we take them out, we're.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Good stugats here.
- 22:53Speaker 2: College basketball is NonStop, big games, tight spreads, momentum swings

- 24:47Speaker 2: Before we get to blind rankings here, Jaken, we appreciate
- 24:49Speaker 2: the todd What does Opening Day look like for you?
- 24:53Speaker 2: It's like a national holiday, right, like you can't wait
- 24:55Speaker 2: for this thing?
- 24:56Speaker 3: Yeah, so you know, unfortunately we've mixed business with pleasure
- 24:59Speaker 3: of here that we you.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Know, unfortunately you're making money off the thing that you love.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Hus terrible. Yeah, I dare you? I mean this, Jake Wiener,
- 25:07Speaker 1: I gotta tell you that.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Well, Jake Weener checking in that we have we have
- 25:12Speaker 3: the Yankees. They have their own opening Day this year,
- 25:14Speaker 3: so we're doing that as a live stream on the
- 25:16Speaker 3: Wednesday night and then the second Opening day we live
- 25:20Speaker 3: stream the whole thing. So yeah, I pretend it's a
- 25:22Speaker 3: first world complaint, but no, it's funny. I didn't realize
- 25:25Speaker 3: how cool Opening Day really was because the Yankees every
- 25:29Speaker 3: Opening Day, it's forty two degrees and it's raining that
- 25:32Speaker 3: like Opening Day. Wasn't that juicy that I lived in
- 25:35Speaker 3: Denver for a little bit. I lived in Texas for
- 25:37Speaker 3: a little bit. That I saw those opening days and
- 25:39Speaker 3: I was like, oh, this makes a little more sense
- 25:42Speaker 3: than yes me, every hitter, every hitter shaking their hands
- 25:47Speaker 3: after fouling off a pitch every day.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Mike, yeah, are we ready here for blind rankings? I
- 25:55Speaker 2: have no idea what the topic is going to be.
- 25:56Speaker 2: I can imagine what it will be based on guest is,
- 26:00Speaker 2: but I'll go ahead, mikey take it away.
- 26:02Speaker 5: Okay, So blind rankings is Yankee players since two thousand
- 26:08Speaker 5: must have played a minimum of three and a half seasons.
- 26:11Speaker 1: With the team.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Wow, so since two thousand when you started watching baseball
- 26:15Speaker 2: three and a half seasons?
- 26:17Speaker 4: But thanks so.
- 26:18Speaker 2: No Mantle, no Ruth, no Garrey, no Damaggio, no Guidry,
- 26:23Speaker 2: no your.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Era, no Reggie Jackson.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Misses the cut here.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Donnie Baseball.
- 26:29Speaker 6: And just to be clear, this is not a top ten.
- 26:31Speaker 6: This is just a blind ranking of ten.
- 26:34Speaker 4: Yes, this is a blind ranking.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Oh my god, the blind ranking of ten.
- 26:38Speaker 2: He has ten names, uh, and you have to slot
- 26:41Speaker 2: him in and we have no idea which name is
- 26:42Speaker 2: coming up next?
- 26:43Speaker 4: Sorry, okay, you're ready.
- 26:45Speaker 1: We're all doing those are just Jake, all three of you?
- 26:47Speaker 4: Oh well, all right, you're ready.
- 26:49Speaker 5: Yeah, we're gonna We're gonna start with Jake because he's
- 26:52Speaker 5: the guest. First name up, Jim Carlos Stanton, Oh.
- 26:57Speaker 3: God, strictly as the Yankees twenty ten. I'm gonna put
- 27:02Speaker 3: I'm gonna put him at seven.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Three and a half season since two thousand, John Carlos?
- 27:07Speaker 1: Did he won a World Series? Correct with the Yanks?
- 27:09Speaker 1: I think he did? Yes? Yeah, no he did.
- 27:11Speaker 4: Now he didn't.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Oh he hasn't. Oh, I'm gonna put him ten.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Then nobody since so nine he said.
- 27:17Speaker 6: Ten For me, I wrote the same as Jake seven.
- 27:20Speaker 1: All right, I wrote ten Stanton ten.
- 27:23Speaker 4: All right. Next name up, Brett Gardner.
- 27:27Speaker 3: Garney, Yes, Rick Gardner.
- 27:30Speaker 2: So I know Stanton's a better player, but just certain
- 27:32Speaker 2: Yankees mean more to the Yankee fan base, and Gardner
- 27:35Speaker 2: is one of those players.
- 27:36Speaker 5: You know you needed a slap single in the bottom
- 27:38Speaker 5: of the ninth, Oh, he was gonna give it to you.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Yeah, or leg out an infield single, just something, right,
- 27:43Speaker 2: Just hustle.
- 27:44Speaker 3: The opposing team. Hated Brett Gardner.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's a great sign.
- 27:48Speaker 3: That's a great sign. Give me him at give me
- 27:52Speaker 3: him at five.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Okay, putting him at five, Taylor, where are you going here?
- 27:56Speaker 2: I'm gonna put him so much higher. And then all
- 27:58Speaker 2: of a sudden iron joke, you're just gonna come h it.
- 28:00Speaker 1: I'm fucked.
- 28:00Speaker 6: I mean, Jesus, Mikey, I haven't met six six.
- 28:05Speaker 2: I'm gonna put Breck Gardner at number four. I'm just
- 28:08Speaker 2: putting GUARDI down.
- 28:09Speaker 5: Okay, all right, ready for your first curve ball here
- 28:14Speaker 5: chin ming wong.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Ah, Jesus, that hits.
- 28:20Speaker 3: At the very least, that hits a soft spot.
- 28:24Speaker 5: Back to back, nineteen game winner, nineteen game win back back.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Pillow left both of his hamstrings on the field for
- 28:30Speaker 3: the end.
- 28:31Speaker 4: Yes he did.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Does that mean something when in terms of how you
- 28:36Speaker 2: rank him? I mean got a ring, right, yeah, and
- 28:40Speaker 2: he left both hamstrings.
- 28:41Speaker 3: I mean so is standing in a way.
- 28:45Speaker 1: No, Stanton's hamstrings were gone before he got here.
- 28:47Speaker 4: He left them in Miammi.
- 28:51Speaker 3: So god, I'm going eight. I'm going eight. I've got
- 28:57Speaker 3: stand stand still thing. His resume to Stan was good.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Last Yeah, he was, he was good. He is good.
- 29:04Speaker 4: He plays, Yes, both games he plays, he's always good.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Just god forbid. It's a day and night double Edder.
- 29:13Speaker 4: Go ahead, Taylor, I'm putting trimming along nine.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, I'm putting him nine too, all right? Next name, CMW?
- 29:22Speaker 1: Is that okay?
- 29:23Speaker 4: That's exactly what I did?
- 29:25Speaker 3: Exactly what dim CMW?
- 29:28Speaker 1: I feel like you're all my kids. This is amazing.
- 29:32Speaker 4: Shut up, dad, Next name up, Johnny, damon.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Johnny, have his number if you need a Jake, just
- 29:40Speaker 2: so you know.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Same with Pete pro Armstrong.
- 29:42Speaker 3: Just so we're clear, Johnny, I also have Pete's number.
- 29:45Speaker 3: Not to flex back at you.
- 29:47Speaker 2: I'll go John, he responds to me. I mean, I
- 29:49Speaker 2: don't know if he responds to you. I'm just telling you.
- 29:51Speaker 2: If I reach out right now and say go on
- 29:52Speaker 2: with Jake, there's a good shot he'll do it.
- 29:54Speaker 1: I won't have John.
- 29:59Speaker 3: Too much red sock.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I'm still I get very much red sock. Autum. I
- 30:02Speaker 1: like that. I like that. But he was good as
- 30:04Speaker 1: a Yankee man.
- 30:05Speaker 3: He really was underrated all time.
- 30:07Speaker 4: Like just ahead, we was Taylor's upset by this one.
- 30:10Speaker 4: I can see it.
- 30:11Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't love my list right now because I
- 30:14Speaker 6: have Johnny Damon eight, so that leaves me with one
- 30:17Speaker 6: through five and ten.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Yep, all right, I'm gonna put Johnny Damon at seven.
- 30:22Speaker 2: I like I like Damon Damon at seven. He's two
- 30:25Speaker 2: spots aad of CMW.
- 30:27Speaker 3: Man Damon Damon. Stan is an interesting one. I don't yeah,
- 30:31Speaker 3: I don't know Stan.
- 30:32Speaker 1: I'm not all right.
- 30:33Speaker 4: Next, well, thank you, you're welcome for this one, Taylor.
- 30:35Speaker 4: Next name up, Aaron Judge.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Since two thousand and three and a half years.
- 30:41Speaker 3: This is this is where these are a trap?
- 30:43Speaker 2: Yes, oh no, he's trying to trap you, make no
- 30:46Speaker 2: mistake about it.
- 30:47Speaker 6: Let's just talk this one out for a second. What
- 30:49Speaker 6: names are we worried about coming up? Like a Rod Jeter.
- 30:53Speaker 1: It doesn't mean they're gonna be there, just I mean
- 30:54Speaker 1: you know that.
- 30:56Speaker 4: Yeah, we're just talking it out.
- 30:57Speaker 1: So is Jeter post?
- 30:58Speaker 2: Yeah, Jeter's post two thousand and a half years, right,
- 31:00Speaker 2: A Rod is as well.
- 31:02Speaker 3: I'll go too, I'll go Judge too. I got it.
- 31:05Speaker 3: I'm leaving. I'm leaving the Jeter slot.
- 31:08Speaker 1: You're leaving it open for Jeter. Rivera is post two
- 31:11Speaker 1: thousand right?
- 31:12Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 31:13Speaker 1: Ooh shoot, I'm gonna put Judge.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Jesus, I think Judge is better than Jeter, so, but
