- 0:00Because funck you. That's why it is a founding member of the odd Pods
- 0:03Media Network. Awesome, five A four A three, let's just give you.
- 0:48Oh, I was like waiting for you to do the numbers. Is
- 0:51your hand? Oh all right? I supposed okay, yeah, five?
- 0:59Hello, welcome, Yes, take the rain? All right? Go ahead?
- 1:03Okay, hello and welcome to b F. I t w if we
- 1:07sound a little weird, well we are. Sorry, it's just weird.
- 1:17Is you knew that right? If you've been listening all along, you knew
- 1:22that. Yeah, you guys, I'm letting all you take the rings because
- 1:26I have something of a cold that has been plaguing me for weeks, but
- 1:29did not stop me from making this trip, which is awesome. I'm glad
- 1:34you made it. Yes, guys, yes, it would have been a
- 1:37weird brotherly time with you. Cool but uh yeah. But if we sow
- 1:44weird, it's because we're talking out a phone. Why are we talking out
- 1:47a phone? Well, we're not in our studio right now. Why are
- 1:49we not in our studio? Well, it's because we went on a trip.
- 1:53Trip trip. I spoiled that. Sorry, you set up a bit.
- 1:59We didn't hear it. On a trip. Maybe you didn't understand if
- 2:01you didn't say that name of the place. That's true, I didn't.
- 2:04Yeah, it's still still not a spoiler unless he puts it in the title
- 2:07of the episode like he always does. I won't remember to do that or
- 2:14not, so have a guest already by that. It's also subtle. Context
- 2:25went down like a hammer in the face. Yeah, it subtle as a
- 2:30hammer in the face. We've gone to MAGFest. In fact, we are
- 2:35still technically there still. Yeah, technically it's our last day, but we
- 2:42would love to talk to you guys about our trip. Yeah, let's start
- 2:46it out. First of all, what is MAGFest. Well, it's music
- 2:50and games festival. I've talked about it a couple of times before, and
- 2:53it's basically a twenty four hour venue where you can just come in, hang
- 2:58out, play video games, check out panels, go do whatever. There's
- 3:01tabletop room you can play board games, the board game room, the arcade,
- 3:06the venue, all that stuff, the giant console room. Those are
- 3:10all open like twenty four hours, so you can just go down play video
- 3:14games to your heart's content. At four in the morning if you want,
- 3:16that may be the best time to do it whenever we go, Like everything's
- 3:21friggin full. But we did manage to get some gaming in while we were
- 3:25at it. But I'm jumping in at any event. There are concerts,
- 3:29there are performances, there's guests of all stripes, there's a lot of voice
- 3:35actors usually come to these things. And yeah, it's without going into too
- 3:42much more detail, it's just a really fun convention that ties both music and
- 3:47gaming together in a really neat and really kind of open arms and progressive kind
- 3:53of way. The vibe is immaculate at MAGFest. Everyone is cool and anyone
- 3:59who has shown the error of their ways pretty quickly. So yeah, that's
- 4:04basically the basic rundown of what MAGFest is. Super simple. Yeah, and
- 4:10the the short button is that I have been going for years, and I
- 4:14have been trying to get these dipshits to come with me for years. I
- 4:18mean, how to years was it? You said five? Allowed more than
- 4:24five more than I was. I want to say it's closer to seven.
- 4:27I'd like my excuse to be somewhere amongst those five plus years there was a
- 4:31pandemic, so that I'll just go, I mean that is fair. They
- 4:34did not as for the other years, Well, you know, if I
- 4:41recalled the dam what's your excuse they did not skip? I mean they might
- 4:45have skipped twenty twenty one, I think they might have. I remember twenty
- 4:48twenty two they you had to have the vaccine, you had to have proof
- 4:53you had the vaccine, and you had to wear a mask the entire time.
- 4:57It was not allowed to go mask us under any reason. And there
- 5:00were fewer people there that it was about ten thousand, which actually for me
- 5:03was like heaven, that's perfect. Nothing was you know, overfull. You
- 5:09can always get in to do something like there wasn't any issues with that at
- 5:13that particular cont Now since then, obviously it's gone back up to its twenty
- 5:17grand people in one venue kind of numbers. So yeah, So occasionally you
- 5:26might find, you know, all the Pimel machines taken, or you might
- 5:30find a freaking irritating every single board game table in the tabletop room taken,
- 5:33super irritated on a bitch, we'll get but what can you do? So
- 5:40anyway, So that's that's the basic history. This year, I did successfully
- 5:44manage to get these guys come. CJ was supposed to come with us as
- 5:46well, Magnus cock thunder you might know about it. But unfortunately he got
- 5:55sicker than I am. I just have a cold. He has the full
- 5:58blown play like he wound up with a fever. Got the magnus Syphilisphilis is
- 6:10gonna be the title of this one. There were no idea so he unfortunately,
- 6:18which sucks because it would have been It would have been more fun with
- 6:21him around, would be good top But and to make matters worse, like
- 6:29every year I go and I see very specific friends who come to Manifest all
- 6:32the time. My buddy map en Rude meaning to have on the show forever
- 6:38and uh and previous guest George LaDou, Yeah, the voice actor Shredanair who
- 6:45did our voice acting episodes so much that was fun and he is an absolute
- 6:50delight and a gentleman through and through and absolutely love that man. Uh and
- 6:56he he was not invited this year for a couple of reasons. MAGFest Versus
- 7:01was pausing for a year. I think the people behind MAGFest Versus needed to
- 7:08take a break. They were burned out, I think. And one of
- 7:12the things George L. Dude does at MAGFest every year is voice the villain
- 7:15of them, so they're probably going to save him for that. And it's
- 7:19also very obvious that the voice actor guests that they asked to appear this year
- 7:26are not straight old white men, correct as they have been, any of
- 7:31them, not any I can tell any of them that in Arantine this year
- 7:39there is a straight middle aged white man. We hung out. We'll get
- 7:43to that point. The old the only old white men there were us seem
- 7:50right. No, So yeah, there's your context. There is the MAGFest.
- 7:57But we had to get there, and our trip was not nice,
- 8:00wasn't it. I think so? I mean, what what the the sadness
- 8:03that we were getting our other buddies to go with us. I think the
- 8:07trip itself out here down here, I should say, from Buffalo was pretty
- 8:11uneventful. I think we did good, Like I enjoyed it. It was
- 8:15like what six to seven hour dry. Yeah. The scariest part was leaving
- 8:20Buffalo because oh yeah, this is so weather. The weather in Buffalo was
- 8:24insane. It got worse after we left. Oh yeah, because it was
- 8:28a foot we left. Yeah, everybody, everybody who lived in Buffalo decided
- 8:33to let me know how bad it wasn't Yes, as if I haven't lived
- 8:37there, years of my life. I hit it myself. But getting on
- 8:41getting out of the Buffalo area was fine. We went a little east first
- 8:45and we started. It just got lighter and easier from there, and the
- 8:48traffic was fine. Yeah, it no no real issues. It wasn't until
- 8:52we got close that things started to slow down. But by then we were
- 8:56so close that it was like minute, it's not a big deal now.
- 8:58Before we actually got into the d C type area, we were at here
- 9:03in National Harbor, we stopped to get some food because we were grub hungry
- 9:07at one point and we needed to eat something. Yeah, so we pulled
- 9:11into just a little plaza just to get some food, and we saw Chinese.
- 9:15Yeah, we saw a Chinese at first, but it turned out they're
- 9:18refurbishing or re renovating or something. Yeah, they were. They were closed
- 9:20and they were gonna open. They were gonna open with a new name.
- 9:24And it was like, oh, well, what else they got? And
- 9:26we managed to stumble onto the geekiest pizzeria in Pennsylvania. Somehow, we just
- 9:35managed to find the fucking I think it's called Brothers. Yeah, the brother
- 9:41Brothers Pizzeri was well, brother Pizzeri. We have the menu. We just
- 9:46do not have the menu on us right now. I think it's in the
- 9:48car stick. I believe it is called Brothers Pizzeria. It's little pizzeria in
- 9:54a plaza, especially a way if you if you want to get there,
- 10:00take the exit to you Come Town. Yes, that's there, you come
- 10:07before or after East Cockysville. I believe it's before, Yes, yeah,
- 10:11you comes down was first? Then was first we saw was first for Cocky
- 10:20Yeah, you take the eggs to Cometown and you will find a small plaza
- 10:24fill those stories and Brothers Pizzeria. And when we walked inside, we saw
- 10:28a massive collection of geek para from the Nerdus geekyest stuff video games like master
- 10:37chiefs, helmet like collectibles. There was a reproduction of the Game of Thrones
- 10:43thrown and the Eggs with the dragons and three dragons, and there was a
- 10:48little dragons the eggs. There was a giant statue of Deadpool as if he
- 10:52were in the video game Fallout us like he wore a power helmet it and
- 11:01he was in his full Deadpool armor with helmet. Helmet was colored red and
- 11:07black like assume it's pretty amazing, uh, And he judged us while we
- 11:13ate, yes, partially harshly, and there was a lot of really neat
- 11:16stuff, like all the whole place was plastered and they had arcade games.
- 11:20Yeah, at the run of the place. It was wild. This place
- 11:24was incredible. It was discovering a head jests. It's not like it felt
- 11:28like an omen like we're heading to a geek con. Here's here's a geek
- 11:31pizzeria to go with it. Dude, it wasn't even in the same state.
- 11:35It was like the hell like what it was so totally rand loved it.
- 11:41But yeah, but eventually it was good too. Oh yeah, no,
- 11:45the food was actually really good. I got to look at that.
- 11:46You toyped pizza broccoli because I'm pepro because I'm a blad white guy. Well
- 11:56after marriage faulted on pizza tags. We made her away to the capital.
- 12:05It's air and what a bland assholes something I will do it. Eventually we
- 12:18made it down to our nation's capital. Didn't we close the way by?
- 12:24We waved so we said high, Yeah, we were here not too long
- 12:28ago. We don't need to soil yourself with us again. We gave it
- 12:31the old American Saloon and the river. We looked off across the atomic,
- 12:39but Aaron got us an amazing Airbnb, Like I'm really really pleased. Yeah,
- 12:48this is basically like a suite, you know, it's like a small
- 12:50apartment for the post part. And we originally had one. It was gonna
- 12:56be it was gonna be just the four of us, the three of us
- 13:00TGIC and then Zia's eternal almost came with us. Yeah, so I had
- 13:03to find it. I had to find a different place than had five people
- 13:05in it that could support five people. And this one was available, and
- 13:11and it was cheaper than the one we had before, which is great.
- 13:13So I was like, okay, yeah, signing me up. So I
- 13:16changed the reservation. We got this place. It looked good from the pictures,
- 13:20but when you get here it's it's actually like, wow, this place
- 13:24is a decent apartment. It's a decent Apartment's bigger than my apartment at home.
- 13:31Yea. And it basically cost us double our part because we were splitting
- 13:35it before we were splitting it for a way, is it basically cost us
- 13:37forty dollars per person per night. Yeah, that's not bad like that that
- 13:41was that was nothing. When you're looking at it like a convention, hotel
- 13:46room or yeah, hotel room a convention, They're going to be outrageous.
- 13:48They more than double these things on purpose because they know people were coming to
- 13:52this ship. Oh yeah, if we got in a room at the actual
- 13:54Gaylord almost was the name of the resort, it would have been four times
- 13:58that much, been one hundred and sixty per person per night. Yeah,
- 14:05literal thousands. And it's one of the reasons I do not do cons anymore,
- 14:07because I'm like, yeah, it's for no reason other than they want
- 14:11more money because they could survive obviously fine doing what the regular toss because they
- 14:16do it for every other month, no problem. Well when the cons come
- 14:18by, it's like nope, referring to the hotel have been the cons are
- 14:28what bring in that revenue. But this place is awesome, Like, I'm
- 14:31very impressed with everything in here. We we've got two bedrooms and there's a
- 14:37bed in the living room. I'll pull out couch bed. Yeah our bedroom
- 14:43bed, Yeah, yeah, very big. I barely notice, Like I
- 14:48sleep in a corner and I'm looking at the bed and it looks like I
- 14:50haven't touched the other like three just like a corner flap. I get in,
- 14:54I close it. It looks like nobody's touches bed. If I had
- 14:58a deckl Every time see me has offered me to enjoyed him his bad this
- 15:03trip. You could have paid for breakfast this morning. I could have paid
- 15:07for the trip again. Probably, I felt so bad for Aggie because because
- 15:13I went full urban survivor and decided to couch surf instead, which was fine,
- 15:16Like the bets were huge, he had more enough for him to come
- 15:18and join me if you wanted, But he knows what's gonna happen? Are
- 15:24you sharing a bed with me? But he stayed out on the couch.
- 15:26And the only downside of this place is we couldn't find any extra blankets.
- 15:31The only extra blankets are these little throw blankets. And we're on the two
- 15:33kingsides beds, and everything else is a sheet and the comforter. So we
- 15:37give Augie the two little blankets. I give him two like pillows. So
- 15:41in the bed, I'm like five foot nine, so I need two of
- 15:46these blankets to fully cover my body. Once one covers from down past my
- 15:52features like a half a foot to about above my knee covers the rest,
- 16:02Yes, yes, so you know it's awesome, but yeah, it's just
- 16:11it's wild. But yeah, I've been enjoying it though. And again,
- 16:14as I said, I've gone full like urban survivalist. I've been doing everything
- 16:18for making sure we have like anything good about me, checking everything, make
- 16:26sure we have everything clean, nothing's like out of place. I even boiled
- 16:30some motherfucking water so we had purified waters. I don't trust their goddamn taps,
- 16:37my own taps. I'm not gonna know that's fair places, especially this
- 16:41place. They just had a warning and telling people, yeah, boil your
- 16:44water. Oh really yeah. I saw it on the news and I was
- 16:48like, oh, I thought that's why you were doing it. No,
- 16:49no, you we're just doing thank god. Yeah, but thanks for telling
- 16:59me that, because I feel justified and not crazy. Yeah at all,
- 17:03not crazy at all. But at this point I think Aaron was gonna go
- 17:07and chill out for a bit, and Aggie and I got ahold of our
- 17:10buddy Chad. Yeah. Yeah. I was a little napery after the trip,
- 17:15and I was thinking about it until long drive in a car. I
- 17:18wanted to take a nap, but I was weirdly energized by you know,
- 17:21getting in and finding the place, and it was cool, a very nice
- 17:25place, very cool Salaka Hotel six. This is awesome. Didn't wind up
- 17:29taking that nap, but they went out and you picked up Chad yep,
- 17:32John Medus on the Metro or we went Menimental train station from the Metro and
- 17:36then we went north. It was pretty awesome because we had to get our
- 17:40medicine, so we went out to our dispenser here, got ourselves a bait,
- 17:45got some joints, and then we busted back to the house to chill
- 17:48and we just hung out for the night pretty much here, like we just
- 17:52all you and I smoked and then we got food and we just now,
- 17:56really we really didn't do anything ordered in I'm trying to think, like,
- 18:00I don't remember I got really stone, you can't he got I got stupid
- 18:03high, because I mean it's a long time. But I guess that's all
- 18:11excuse all of the same. Oh. Yeah, So we call it in
- 18:15for the night after fitting our good friend Chad farewell yep, uh and yeah,
- 18:19and then we prepared ourselves for the next morning for our first day at
- 18:25MAGFest. Yeah, Thursday, Thursday morning, mag day one. Should we
- 18:27take a break, but I believe it's about time for us to take a
- 18:32break, so we will return for our first day at MAGFest. After this,
- 18:38we interrupt this program to bring you a new splash Michael Jackson's ghost scene
- 18:42out of Yankees game Cinnamon does crunch now with a shrimp in every bite.

- 19:07And we are proud members of the Odd Pods media Network. And welcome back
- 19:18to b FY tw talks about MAGFest. We are back with our Day one
- 19:22of MAGFest. Day one to backfist. I only remember day one a bag
- 19:27best because for one reason, is currently the picture in my hand. Oh
- 19:33yeah, one of the best things there. One of the smartest things we
- 19:38did. Yeah, we got in, we parked, who walked to the
- 19:41venue and I was like, what do you guys want to do? You
- 19:44guys want to get breakfast or coffee? So we didn't have coffee in the
- 19:48air VNBA and we didn't bring any I did not think that far. So
- 19:52we were like, well, let's get let's get something. And we're like,
- 19:56it's going to be horribly expensive because we're in the hotel. Actually coffee
- 20:02there not that not that not much more expensive than it would be in any
- 20:06other Starbucks, at least at home. More expensive. Yeah, it was
- 20:10actually more expensive than this Starbucks was social. So yeah, I got myself,
- 20:15like, I got myself a venty hot chocolate. I got myself a
- 20:18blueberry muffin and an apple turnover. It all costs like fourteen bucks. And
- 20:23then we got and I was like, for a hotel, that's pretty good.
- 20:27Yeah, it really breakfast. And we got two and I was full
- 20:33and I was happy and I was I was caffeinated up yeah, and was
- 20:37only like twelve bucks smooth or yeah. So like we got to like Venti
- 20:41mochiado caramel bullshit, I don't know, screaming with caffeine in it, and
- 20:49it was like it was like five seventy five something something like six. It's
- 20:55like six bucks a piece, and it was like, wow, that's way
- 20:57cheaper than like the eight dollars we spent back home for something similar. But
- 21:03yeah, we sat down, we drink our extremely warm coffee. Oh yeah,
- 21:07apparently thirsday's coffee. The coffee and my hot chongol were steaming, scalding
- 21:14hot. So I discovered all the nerve endings of my tongue are dead.
- 21:18Because while they were bitching about their liquid hot mag bind their mouths, I
- 21:23was chugging it like it was water. Either my coffee wasn't as hot as
- 21:29ears or yeah, my tongue as fucked. It was hot, but it
- 21:33was good. I was. It took me a while to be able to
- 21:36drink it, which I had to let it sit open for a long time.
- 21:41We were almost done drinking by the time or her we got to really
- 21:44start sipping on his. Yeah, it was. It was. It was
- 21:47upsetting how hot it was. But the inside of that area, that mean
- 21:52massive thick of like an amphitheater inside. Yeah, the acoustics like people were
- 21:59singing and they music going that was bouncing off all the walls and it sounded
- 22:02great. Yeah, like it didn't even sound like. The acoustics are incredible
- 22:06in there. Yeah. Absolutely. So it's a great place to just eat,
- 22:10sit and eat breakfast and then we went and we're like, well,
- 22:12what do you guys want to do now? And like we walked around for
- 22:15a bit and we're like, oh, everything's still closed. This this was
- 22:21massively disappointing because I was like, let's go over to the to the you
- 22:23know, we we we registered, Yeah, we had got registered. It
- 22:26took us like two seconds and that was literally just walked into the line and
- 22:30then walked out of it. It did not take long. We went to
- 22:34the expo halls, all of them were closed, didn't open until two pm,
- 22:38and we were there ten o'clock was registration right, Yeah, we made
- 22:45it in at nine, so we were we got registered super early and super
- 22:51easily, did not have to wait long. No, And even as we
- 22:56were exiting, the line wrapped around the XO hall like all the way down
- 23:02crazy quick. So we we definitely made the right move there, and and
- 23:07we walked around and see what we could see, and all the other expo
- 23:11halls were still being set up, so we're like, oh, nothing's open.
- 23:15All right, Well, we checked out. The museum also closed later
- 23:18today. I was like, well, this is disappointing. What about the
- 23:21tabletop room Tabletop rooo's got to be ready. So we eventually rolled over there
- 23:25and sure enough it was ready. They got and there weren't a ton of
- 23:27people in the so we had been pretty much the entire selection to our you
- 23:33know whatever, our choice. So we rolled in and we're like, yeah,
- 23:37let's play Scythe because Aggie and I like Scythe and Stevie had never played
- 23:41it before. And then and Stevie steam rolled us. Yeah. So the
- 23:47thing is, Aaron and I have played slide a couple of times before,
- 23:49once I was on the show Masters of Boredom. Yeah CJ. Yeah,
- 23:56uh, then again in private because the game that much. Yeah, great
- 24:02play. I played it a third time with my mother. I like it
- 24:04that much. It's awesome. This would be the fourth or fifth time I've
- 24:08played it. And this mother fucker guy, I've never played this before,
- 24:18which I haven't ye never to be fair, as far as we know,
- 24:22as far as we know, as far as I know, he's never played
- 24:26anymore. Seriously, it's the only thing we can be sure of as far
- 24:30as he knows, he's never played it before. But anyways, Yeah,
- 24:36so we started playing or like explaining the roles to it was like okay,
- 24:40okay, and we're like, oh, it takes a while for me to
- 24:41really get the count. Yeah, yeah, confused, there's a lot to
- 24:45do. By turn two, you're like, okay, I think I got
- 24:48this. By turn three, probably you weren't able to do it, move
- 24:52completely out of your own non assistant. By turn four you made Aaron and
- 24:56I am nervous. Yeah, it didn't didn't take a long heed yeah out
- 25:02of him, all of his workers out and gained a start immediately four turns
- 25:07in to gain a single star is the insane like speed run kind of cool.
- 25:11Yeah, So we were like, we're like and then when you were
- 25:15like, when my beck moves, it takes all these people, they were
- 25:19like yeah. And then he marched north. Yeah, so we just started
- 25:26carrying. He just started carrying this massive lump of workers with him wherever he
- 25:30went, and he would just be like, I need seven iron plates,
- 25:33more like seven sweet Our jaws would drop, Yeah, I need to make
- 25:40another back next, and then he's like, Okay. For whatever reason,
- 25:45he got nervous when we started exploring outside a little areas they were in because
- 25:51we were trying to go towards like the middle area to get the special warehouse
- 25:55car, the factory car, and get some of the quest cars. Really
- 26:00cool benefits for having something in there and grabbing up some of the resources that
- 26:03was not afforded to us in our little area. I would just you have
- 26:06to grab them. Yeah, he took it as a thread. I'm America,
- 26:14he played, but he played them like the American. Yeah, like,
- 26:21oh there coming for me, get him now. And that motherfucker saw
- 26:23oil and it is ingrained in his brain. If there is oil in them,
- 26:38ll I need them. We gotta take it. I'm American. Play
- 26:44your flag there. It is so fun. I've never really put that together
- 26:47at all until you started explaining what was going on. I'm like, holy
- 26:49shit, I am an asshole. Oh we need to get this resource for
- 26:55our little town and let's go get so he's gotta cross this little river.
- 26:59Oh ship, look all those next comedy and he crushed us. He went
- 27:03straight for my dude where I was sitting in the factory. Crushed that person,
- 27:07sent them back the base, not even a contest. You sure,
- 27:12yeah, immediately marches towards my base, another one of my macs. Immediately
- 27:19when's the whole game? Because he just crushes us. There was nothing you
- 27:23could do. He was. He was one step away from starting a fight
- 27:26with my hometown. Like this is I had a one dude in one tip
- 27:30point and your character managed to just sidle up there and just staring at you
- 27:37across the border, like try it you. I think I had three victory
- 27:42points stars that entire game. Yeah, I had had. I had four,
- 27:48He had what six? He had six? Yeah, I don't even
- 27:51know what that means. And I think at the end of the game,
- 27:53I had like he had like ten or twenty coins more than either of us.
- 27:56Yes, and he had terry. Yeah he his resources were the ones
- 28:03that did it. He quite literally crushed us. Yes, you have enough
- 28:06peop right away. It's like those those resource games. Get as many people
- 28:11as you can and just ship. We were playing a little fun, little
- 28:15mel resource game and Steven was back over there playing Warhammer. Okay, first
- 28:22of all, you just give me, give me mets. Yeah, we
- 28:26gave him. We gave him him like you gave him. Are meant to
- 28:32kill things. It was even funnier is that there's a bunch of roles that
- 28:36you play besides like the factions like you do with the Crimeans like I said,
- 28:41yeah, there's a bunch of roles you could play. I was playing
- 28:42like industrial. You were playing something I don't remember. Yeah, you were
- 28:48playing Patriotic, which I thought was hilarious until you start using it properly,
- 28:53and that's what this is no longer funny stopping so I'm like, no,
- 28:59that's funny. Ended that game feeling like we'd been hustled. Yeah, we
- 29:04literally somebody had us. They played You didn't hear this part because you were
- 29:10in the bathroom. I walked up the Arab like, so I think he
- 29:14fucking hustled us. Dude, like yeah, it was like a fool shark.
- 29:18He's like, I've never played this game. Let's make a friendly wager.
- 29:26He just absolutely stopped us, absolutely stopped us. We didn't even get
- 29:30close. I've never seen anything like that. Yeah, it was at any
- 29:34time he played, I've never I had fun playing, and it was.
- 29:38It was a good fun like day one coffee caffeine, great time playing borgains
- 29:44with my buddy's, great time. I was so worried that after they came,
- 29:48like, oh, they're going to be pissed at me all weekend.
- 29:57Oh my god. It's like we've never played. Oh my god, you
- 30:02know we still had fun. Yeah, your culture, you leave it at
- 30:10the table. Yeah, but you remember, Yeah, you can see like
- 30:15the next time we place, I am not going to don't don't. I'm
- 30:21like, I've never played this before. You on your face, don't worry.
- 30:26We will get to that. However, there was more that went on
- 30:30that day. That's all I really remember. It was so good. Yeah.
- 30:34After that, more panels did in fact open up. I don't quite
- 30:37recall the whole adventure too though. I think at that point the stuff was
- 30:42starting to open. And did I give you guys the tour at that point?
- 30:48Yes, I remember I started. Yeah, I started showing you guys
- 30:51around and I was like, hey, there's stuff over here. I show
- 30:55you guys the expos we saw the Danny Debato exhibit. Shy about this is
- 31:03amazing. Okay. The whole time I'm texting our other rooming cybernetic, I'm
- 31:11like, dude, who's a dandy DeVito Shrine? And he's like, I
- 31:15have questions? And all I could respond was I wish I had the answers.
- 31:23How it started? Why start? I mean, I know why I
- 31:27started, Danny the Vito Bowl. It started right. I have no idea.
- 31:33I have no idea what this came about. I've been out of the
- 31:34con like scene for like ever, and I don't know if it's something just
- 31:40to this con or if it's something that a lot of them do. Now
- 31:42what So any idea about the Danny de Vito Shrine, None whatsoever. So
- 31:47it's just it's a mystery. I am an old man, and I am
- 31:51frequently out of the loop. If you are a frequent Bagfest goer and you
- 31:56know why Danny DeVito Shryan is there, please send in a voicemail or bus
- 32:02and explain it to us. We're actually genuinely interested. We are. I
- 32:06love Daddy DeVito's I know why. Please, Although I know I made me
- 32:12your own punishment here, Oh god, please don't call and simply leave the
- 32:15word egg. No, that doesn't I mean, I'll just ignore it and
- 32:25move out to the next I mean, that's fair, that's fair anyway,
- 32:30We're not conspiracy. So yeah, I showed him around. The stuff is
- 32:34starting to open up. I had a panel I wanted to get to at
- 32:37like two thirty in the jam space. Oh yeah, oh them space was
- 32:40cool. I was this okay, seriously, like all straight, Like,
- 32:45I love this idea. This concept is amazing. Tell everybody with the jam
- 32:50for going space. So anyone who wants to can come down and bring an
- 32:52instrument or they can play one of the instruments that are there and you just
- 32:58jam together like you jam sessions together with with with actual like uh what the
- 33:05calloss? No sheet music? Oh for actual video game tunes. When we
- 33:10walked in, when we walked in, there was like a jazz fusion jam
- 33:15of the Airman theme from Mega Band two. Uh. And it was awesome.
- 33:21It was hot, Like the drum guy got a solo, the bassis
- 33:22got a solo that was neat. It was just all you people off the
- 33:28front and the projectors projecting the note the sheet music. Yeah, it was
- 33:31It was cool, like just the concept, like there's a lot of people
- 33:36here with a lot of interest and everything. But I have the idea of
- 33:37like, yo, what if people want to bring their instruments to hang out.
- 33:39We should just have an area where anyway can come and play it,
- 33:42not just like oh it's the band only, or we got to be on
- 33:45the stage or you have to be a guest. That is so smart.
- 33:47That was it. And then shortly after that ended and it became what was
- 33:53it, video Game music Charades, Yes, which was funny. It's kind
- 33:58of a misnow where it's actually raids video game topics and stuff like that,
- 34:05but it is. But you have to you have to incorporate an instruments somehow,
- 34:12either by playing it or by using it as a prop. So everybody
- 34:16these instruments and only occasionally when they like play a note or some notes to
- 34:21try and get something across, but they're trying to get the audience to guess
- 34:24like a phrase or a character or even just a single word or how many
- 34:30people got into one note. It was actually pretty pretty impressive that the audience
- 34:36got almost every single one of them right. Really yeah, Like they they
- 34:39were timed so they only had like a minute. Oh, I mean,
- 34:43well that makes sense, you've got so many, you got so many to
- 34:45get through. But it was genuinely impressive that the audience almost never missed.
- 34:52So yeah. And it was hosted by my favorite bisential gargoyle and yours Erki.
- 35:01Yes. Erki. She is a voice actress and and a I don't
- 35:08know what you call it, like a content streamer, I guess she she
- 35:12does a lot of live role playing playthroughs, a lot of D and D
- 35:16some vampire, she does a lot of stuff for a dropout dot TV,
- 35:22which you should be a member of if you're now already. And uh,
- 35:28and she's just a phenomenal human being. And I was so excited to see
- 35:30that she was coming to this. It was like the like everything else that
- 35:34I was coming to see MAGFest usually has gone and I'm like, oh,
- 35:37here's this new thing. Oh, by the way is going to be here.
- 35:40I'm like, Okay, that almost makes up for it makes up for
- 35:44it by itself, because she is a goddamn delight. And I enjoyed watching
- 35:50me in sanity because it was insanity. It was absolute insanity. Like at
- 35:54first it was just like very simple, like you know, prospects ideas and
- 35:58things like Mario getting a power simple okay, And then it turned things like
- 36:05they got spicy. Oh, they got difficult. They started mixing things together
- 36:09and it was like the Ace Attorney objects to Manicuma and Daniel Rovo was one
- 36:15of the things. Oh my god, Yeah, it got why to be
- 36:17obscure. It was holy cram. So yeah, there was some really cool,
- 36:23some really cool charades being played nice and and again Erica was a goddamn
- 36:30delight and she mentioned she was going to do signings later on and I was
- 36:35like, cool, I'll look into that. And and yeah, I think
- 36:37that that was. That was the first of two. I can't remember what
- 36:40the second panel was, I think at that point. But the break,
- 36:45we took a break between you guys did not go to this, you guys
- 36:47somewhere else. So we went to medicate outside away from everybody, because that's
- 36:52what we needed to do. Yes, and it is recreational and medical.
- 36:59But what we ended up doing is vandalizing some stuff. Oh yeah, vandalism
- 37:05place. Now I must understand, do you want to explain the vandalism.
- 37:09It's not we're not It's not like spray peating things. There's actual vandalism.
- 37:15Plaquins hung up around the place, banners all dotted throughout this place, and
- 37:21very specific banners that you could vandalize, like literally like hey, draw here,
- 37:27vandalize here, don't do the hotel. They'll never invite us back.
- 37:30So we took it upout ourselves and the several stickers we brought with us to
- 37:36stick every we had a quest. So again, if you've gone to bad
- 37:42best. You probably saw our stickers there. It is the black and red
- 37:46hydrate or d drate with a little b fy t W in the back bottom
- 37:51right corner on every single one. Well it wasn't that first panel. Yeah,
- 37:59we just went through and just frea game tagged everything we could. I
- 38:02was just like cannon stuff to people and I completely coincidental, though I did
- 38:07see all the people writing hybrade or hydrade all of mine that banners as well.
- 38:12I can't contextually place the time frame, so I have no idea if
- 38:16they were on there before we did ours or after, so I'll just say
- 38:21that everybody just had a good idea and hydrated. Yes. Well anyways,
- 38:27Yeah, so we were off doing that lawyer and was enjoying his panel.
- 38:30But then what did we do after the I don't really actually remember what happened
- 38:36after. You see, at that point Stevie and I were high, So
- 38:39there goes armit. Yes, Eddy, real question is what happened after that?
- 38:45I know we explored around. Yeah, I got out of three and
- 38:49the next thing we did was Dave Damino's panel at five point thirty. So
- 38:52in between in between must have done other things. Yeah, so we went
- 38:57to the arcade. To the arcade, that's where we went. That's what
- 39:00it was. Yeah, do you guys want to take a break here or
- 39:04do you want to keep going? We got two more days to get through.
- 39:07That's true. Okay, we gotta get through this. Stay quicker.
- 39:09There was so much to do. There was so much to do. We
- 39:13went to the arcade, which is a warehouse full of arcade, and a
- 39:15warehouse like straight up holy crap, like done nicely, but everything you could
- 39:22possibly think of from arcade youth like back in the days, man like,
- 39:28it was everything, pinball like stand ups. There was an air hockey table
- 39:31I saw. It was all the shooter like guing games. Yeah, it
- 39:36was cool man. Lots of co op which was nice, so you can
- 39:38play with a lot of people. It was just a shame that we got
- 39:42there when we did, because every last arcade was taken. Yes, oh
- 39:45my god. We couldn't do anything that first time we got it. Opened
- 39:50it two. We got there at four. They were already full. Yeah
- 39:53nothing. I mean, everything you could play for free, didn't cost anything.
- 39:55Yeah, everybody had a machine already already patchful. So I think what
- 40:02we did is we walked to the other side. Yeah. Yeah, we
- 40:06went through the went through the indie the indie section. Yes, there were
- 40:12a few other options there. We wound up sitting down and playing Cannon Commander
- 40:15or was it, well you played it? This this canon Custodian, that's
- 40:22what it was, Yes, by Ai Bon Games, by our good friend
- 40:25Mark Miller from lil He's the guy who runs lil Con believe it or not,
- 40:30and he is at medcost every year as well. And we caught him
- 40:36hawking his game and you know, with his uh, with his h the
- 40:39guy who's doing programming for it, and we're like, yeah, we'll check
- 40:44it out absolutely. And I sat down to play it, and I thought
- 40:45at first, oh, this is just Missile Command. I didn't think anything
- 40:50of it. I'm like, this is Dismissile Command. It's gonna be that
- 40:52good. I had high hopes, but I'm like, all right, maybe
- 40:55I'll have to let this guy down gently. So start playing. You know,
- 40:59you get into like the round two, round three of the different enemy
- 41:01show ups, start doing different things, and I'm like, okay, that's
- 41:05that's a little bit more creative. I like it. Just keep playing.
- 41:08Round five comes up freaking Boss commands. Boss fight comes in. I'm like,
- 41:15oh snap, this is kind of awesome. So I start fighting the
- 41:19boss, and I take the boss out without losing too many of my little
- 41:21pods. And then you know, they start getting into like round six,
- 41:25round seven, round eight. The enemies start getting a little bit more when
- 41:30more convoluted, like these giant spiders that come down and take multiple hits to
- 41:35take out. There are these little grabby baskods who run along behind you and
- 41:37you have to drop grenades behind you in order to stop them. Uh.
- 41:42And you know, all the while you're trying to shoot all these things up
- 41:44top, you're getting power ups, power ups that actually do things where you
- 41:47like you turn your beam into a laser, you can actually wipe enemies off
- 41:51the screen, or you get like a bomb that takes out a certain contection
- 41:54of the screen. All the while, these enemies are getting more and more
- 41:58convoluted. Round ten comes around another box. This one's harder and it's got
- 42:04a much more different week spot and I'm like, okay, keep going,
- 42:07and it just gets more and more and eventually, like I'm starting to go,
- 42:10I can't cover everything. And I was like I was fighting for my
- 42:15like and I was hanging on you were doing so good to get down like
- 42:19one pod. Yeah, I would get down one left and pull it back
- 42:22and I'd be like, all right, I'm saving. I wound up getting
- 42:25the new high score first try. We'll check in. You were there for
- 42:35a while, Yeah, Yeah, it was cool. I played for a
- 42:37while. It was a lot of fun, and I was like, Okay,
- 42:40maybe there's more to this game than I gave it credit for. So
- 42:44yeah, it was definitely one of those where you sit down and you think
- 42:46one thing and then you're biting. By the time you're done light You're like,
- 42:49no, this is entirely another thing. It's very well done. Yeah.
- 42:52It was very impressive, very very It was genuinely, genuinely fun.
- 42:57I dug it. I absolutely dug it. Hell yeah. Uh. And
- 43:00then we went from there to the console side. Oh yeah, and we
- 43:04checked out the consoles and this is a room full filled with CRT TVs and
- 43:09old school consoles and oh my god. Yeah, and again it's an entire
- 43:16warehouse full of them, and you can do everything like PlayStation PS three,
- 43:21PS four. There's like, you know, even modern consoles are there,
- 43:24so you can play what pretty much whatever you want, because they have a
- 43:28ton of games and if you want to, they have a ton of them
- 43:30out already. But if you want to swap one out, you can just
- 43:32ask somebody and then they'll swap the game out for you. It's so cool,
- 43:37right, Yeah, so it is absolutely wild and we just sat down.
- 43:42I think I can't remember what we played the first time we played Street
- 43:44three age two. Was that we came back and play the later, Yeah,
- 43:47but we played something for a little bit in that first time. I
- 43:51can remember at one point again, I played Twisted Mountain, Yes, but
- 43:54that was the second day. I don't remember when what it was. The
- 43:58second day, so we played something, but obviously we didn't take too much
- 44:01stock in it. It was Burnout or was that the second group game?
- 44:08Yeah? We revenge. That was actually fun. That was a lot of
- 44:13fun, incredibly high speeds and like knocking guys off the was that was that
- 44:23was That was cool And then we rolled from there to a panel run by
- 44:29former guests of the fy t W. That was awesome. Yeah, has
- 44:35been going to Manifest for a lot longer than me. He was part of
- 44:38a group called X Rank Studios that made these fabulous absolutely wonderful little video game
- 44:46style movies like they made River City Rumble, that was they made Resident Horror,
- 44:54both of which I highly recommend. They are cheesy as fucking hell,
- 44:58like obviously do not expect Hollywood type plan, but I mean, the heart
- 45:04of these guys is absolutely there and the the I absolutely adored those movies.
- 45:10So they've been coming to MECAS forever. This is I think one of the
- 45:15first times that Dave's got in his own panel. Really, yeah, I
- 45:19think this. And he did a panel called the Not Quite Triple a voice
- 45:25Actor, and he talked about his experiences making a living as a voice actor
- 45:30in a non massive market for for voice actors like New York, LA or
- 45:36Dallas Fortworth, Texas. So it was it was a fascinating panel. I
- 45:42thought he was great. Yeah. No, he goes over like so many
- 45:46helpful tips about about what microphone to get use, many many options option want
- 45:55to avoid, all sorts of really full information, and he has the entire
- 46:01presentation available online at a moment's notice, so you can just look it up.
- 46:05Yeah. Uh so, and then after that we decided to go get
- 46:08some dinner. Yeah, we were like, we went to we went to
- 46:13that Chinese place, so we left. Yeah, like, what was it
- 46:16called? It was something like it was Kung Fu Kitchen cum Yoo Chen,
- 46:21which is honestly a very silly name for what is actually a really nice restaurant.
- 46:25It was really good both aesthetically and the food was delicious. Yeah it
- 46:31was. This was a chopsticks place, and he had met with chopsticks and
- 46:35I did my damn you did my job job. It was amazing. I
- 46:39ate chicken chopsticks. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but you did a great
- 46:44job with that as well. You got chicken Google. It's amazing. Yeah,
- 46:47genuinely, as a guy who has a cold, probably should have gone.
- 46:52But I got the the crispy sweet and sour port, which had a
- 46:57honey glaze on the top of it as hell. Yeah, oh my god,
- 47:01stuck to my damn teeth. But it was so good. But there
- 47:07was so much food. There was a lot. There was so much it
- 47:09was a goddamn pile. Like I was unbelievable. I was like, I'm
- 47:14a big dude and I could eat, but damn, I was expecting like
- 47:19a stamp. I didn't even finish half of it. I didn't finish half.
- 47:22This was this thing looked like the bowl, like I don't mean this
- 47:27to be like it looked like a kitchen sink. Well you know, it
- 47:30looked like they took a vase and open wide. It was cool. But
- 47:39no, no, it was great and it was delicious, so much of
- 47:43it we happened. It was so good. It was so good. We're
- 47:45having that leftovers tonight for sure. I had some spicy pork fried rice thing,
- 47:51which I felt the next morning. It looked good. It was freaking
- 47:52amat. It had spot. You had a kick to it at first time,
- 47:55and all of a sudden, I'm like, oh yeah, I liked
- 48:00my spicy sween there, my crispy sweet and sower pork. But there was
- 48:05so much of it, so choch, so much of it, Like holy
- 48:07shit, I couldn't believe it anyway, So yeah, we ate. It
- 48:12was reasonably priced too as well, so I hope we ate there. Brought
- 48:15the food back leftovers, and then we played video games, wind out for
- 48:20the night until we want down for the night, and went to bed.
- 48:22Yeah. The first night was really chill, yeah, like not no real
- 48:27issues, not too many people. Yeah nice. So we'll get into day
- 48:30two, but we're going to take a short break. I think, yeah,
- 48:32we will take a short break and get into day two and strap it
- 48:37as since to be a long one. Right right now, we can go
- 48:40through days two and three a little faster because we copied some of the stuff
- 48:45we did day one, but fair enough. Well, then day two and
- 48:49maybe three after this. Hey you there, We've got a question for you.
- 48:54Are you tired of clickbait stories and the loudest voices driving discussions and culture
- 49:00entertainment? If so, I'm Dylan, I'm Kendall, and I'm Corey,

- 49:37fun and laid back you'll forget you're not actually hanging out with us, so
- 49:43search at from the midpod just like it sounds, or check us out everywhere
- 49:46you can find podcasts and welcome back to bfygw's venture through Macfest. We are
- 49:55quickly moving on to day two and three. Day two started off the exact
- 50:01same way as Day one. We like the way day one started, so
- 50:04yeah, we did the exact same way. It's a good Day one.
- 50:07We got line at the cafe, we got coffee, I got blueberry muff
- 50:10and apple turnover. We sat, we ate breakfast and it was delightful and
- 50:14also not scalding hot anymore, no regular warm. Yeah, I think they
- 50:19just it was literally perfect. I absolutely adored it was. And we went
- 50:23down walk quicker. This time we went for board games again and this time
- 50:27I picked out Lords of Water because see we hadn't played that either, No
- 50:30h, I played that. Yes, so once again this is the refut
- 50:35and I had played Yeah, this is the worker replacement one. And you
- 50:38have to complete quests using workers that you get to find fighters and ages and
- 50:45rogues and yeah tubes, and you're looking to complete quest to game victory points
- 50:51to win the game. And each of us is just basically like an NPC
- 50:55who hands out quests if you want no exactly don't makes sense. So we
- 51:04played, and once again, Stevie got Aggie and I very nervous once again
- 51:07because he just started playing aggressive and he's slapping me with a mandatory quest and
- 51:13I'm like, you, son of a thing. I'm not going to say
- 51:15I got a lot of heated at the table. Well, well here's what
- 51:19I got. But there was definitely some friendly yeah. So I started being
- 51:23friendly to Oggie and giving him stuff and see who was like, oh all
- 51:30right. I gently slapped him back with a mandatory question that was not as
- 51:35bad as what had given me, but just just a little slap on the
- 51:40nose and be like, behave and to be fair, every card I had
- 51:45was an aggressive card, and I'm just like, this sucks. And for
- 51:51pretty much the rest of the game, we all kind of helped each other.
- 51:53Really, all right, I'll go to your place and give you We'll
- 51:57help each other. We all just kind of stopped fighting you ever, started
- 52:00playing with each other, and we had a blast. It was it was.
- 52:01It was a lot closer than I thought it would be with everything being
- 52:06equal. I think I think Stevie's bonus points was very nearly took the took
- 52:09the win. You were like seven points behind me in the end. I
- 52:13think he was he was, yeah, but he was, yeah, but
- 52:20he was. He was good though. He got really far in especially we
- 52:22were all above hundred. That's right, it was you because he had a
- 52:30ton of endgame bonus points and almost come. I got I got the Bard
- 52:35where you get you get like plus four points for every piety you completed,
- 52:40and I completed every piety and warf request. I could get my hands off.
- 52:45He came so close, he almost took it, but I was just
- 52:50seven points ahead him and won the game. It was It was a lot
- 52:52of fun. I really dug that. And then we moved on from there.
- 52:57I think we just kind of messed around. We did for a little
- 53:00bit. The next thing I had to do was the signing, which is
- 53:04that Yeah, because you went to the signing, and we wanted to go
- 53:07to the VR cookoff, because there's there's a VR cookoff. I just wanted
- 53:10to go to the tournaments at noon, yes, And I was like,
- 53:14I don't know what I want to do. I'll just float around, I
- 53:15guess, right. So we checked that out and it was pretty cool.
- 53:17Because the VR cookoff was pretty fun. There's all these different sections of people
- 53:22playing against each other the whole it was the whole time, Tho, I
- 53:28can't putting that ship out freaking like get pink eye somehow that's not happening,
- 53:37there's not I'll watch round VR. But knowing then now, I would be
- 53:42like, Okay, I'll bring my Oculus next time and I'll look it up
- 53:45to there like that. Yeah. It was kind of cool because a lot
- 53:47of places, including the game area the consoles and stuffs, to bring their
- 53:52own consoles and controllers, which is awesome. Absolutely could the same with the
- 53:57land the computer land room. Yeah, your own everything and network and playing
- 54:00games with other people in the same room. It's a lot of fun.
- 54:05It's so smart. And then we went to the Mortal Con or we would
- 54:07we would looking for the Mortal Kombat tournament, which, yeah, it was
- 54:12an outworld or some ship because it was an anywhere else around there, but
- 54:22in the survivors came back later, yeah, they were walking around. Yeah,
- 54:24So instead we stared at the qualifiers for a Smash tournament. Yeah,
- 54:30there was a Smash tournament qualifiers going on at that time, so we said
- 54:36there and just watched that for a while. It was awesome cool, it
- 54:38was pretty bad. I did call my shot by the like, that's my
- 54:43game. Ye all, you would probably destroy all of us in there.
- 54:45You've got Mortal Combat, part's got street Fire. I'm like, I grew
- 54:50up playing that game. And at that point, you know, I had
- 54:53to back outside so I can medicate again. And while we're out there,
- 54:57I found two suspicious motherfuckers. It looked like Bob. So we had a
- 55:02couple of cosplayers out there, and I'm like something about jungle, right,
- 55:07So I got a photo with them and they were we were smoking. It
- 55:12was very bad, so they were pretty cool. And then at that point,
- 55:15I think is when we started to meet back up. Yea, because
- 55:16we met back up again. While they were down there, I went and
- 55:20I explored the museums. Yeah, oh yeah, you went to the museum.
- 55:22Yeah. You guys eventually went to the museums too. Yeah. Yeah.
- 55:25Eventually I went up to the Console museum and looked around. Pretty much
- 55:30everything was taken, but I did manish to spend some time with the Steel
- 55:34Battalion. What game I remember that? You remember? It's like a game?
- 55:40Yeah, full rig oh, it's got like two big joysticks and it's
- 55:44got tons of I remember. See, It's like it's like actually piloting a
- 55:50mech with all these switches and things, and you even just starting up your
- 55:53mach requires like a sequence of button presses to get it to swell an aircraft
- 55:58like yeah, yeah, and only by holding the star button down will it
- 56:01actually starts, Like you have to prime me. Yes, yes, that
- 56:07sounds it was. And if I could have figured out how to move,
- 56:10I probably would have enjoyed it. But I couldn't figure out how to move.
- 56:14I could turn, I could turn me look around just fine, but
- 56:15I could not move, and I eventually got destroyed by something I could not
- 56:20see behind me, and I was like, what the fuck? So that
- 56:23was probably user error. I could have used like a tutorial sequence. I
- 56:28was in the middle of somebody else's game and somebody left and I just just
- 56:30stepped up and was like, all right, I might play with it.
- 56:34But I had a blast. I'm like, this is so cool. I'm
- 56:37like I should have bought one of these when I had a chance. Goddamn
- 56:38it. Man, I looked around. The Arcade Museum is actually kind of
- 56:45anemic. It's kind of a disappointment. I don't really know why they still
- 56:49have it, because they might as well have put those games in the actual
- 56:52arcade, and the actual arcade is a better arcade museum than the arcade muteam
- 56:57is. I mean, there's some cool old stuff in there. They have
- 57:00the six player side by side x Men that actually puts two monitors together,
- 57:07but it's seamless. You can't tell. It looks like it amooks almost like
- 57:10one for on screen. Yeah. Yeah, that's a really famous machine.
- 57:15There's a couple other ones I had there that were pretty cool too. But
- 57:19eventually I met back up with you guys, and that's when you pointed out,
- 57:22oh, hey, you should register for this timing. Oh yeah,
- 57:24because I was like, I did not. I did not realize. But
- 57:27you have to be registered you want to get auditor. There's only so many
- 57:30spaces, which I get, Beau. They don't want their desk to be
- 57:31sitting out there forever too. So it was like, got me that thing,
- 57:37and I you the line and I hung out and I waited for for
- 57:39Eric to get there. We went back to the game. She was fifteen
- 57:44minutes late, which which is normal for our I've heard it's pretty normal for
- 57:50our gremlin queen. But everybody there knows and understands that accept this this,
- 57:53so we just kind of nodded our heads and it's okay. But I have
- 57:59now come to recognize her run when she is late. Her run is iconic.
- 58:02When she is her shoulders, her shoulders are in tight, her head
- 58:07is forward, her legs are rapidly moving, but never more than fifteen degrees
- 58:10out. For the first time, it's like a fast shuffle. Yeah,
- 58:14it's like it's an extremely fast shuffle. It is adorable. So absolutely enjoyed
- 58:20that too. So you saw her shuffle again. We saw her coming in
- 58:23from the hallway looking at her on trying to find out where she can it
- 58:30go and everyone, are you looking for you? She's like, yeah,
- 58:32I'm over there. It's so funny. But I got I bought both of
- 58:39her things. I bought a pin and I bought her poster. I had
- 58:43her sign her poster, and she was really sweet, really nice. Uh
- 58:46and I really enjoyed the experience, not as much as you did the next
- 58:50day, but we'll get to that. Uh. Yeah, And I walked
- 58:52off because I didn't want to. I didn't want to spend a lot of
- 58:55time with her. I didn't want to keep her when I do. She
- 58:59had so many other people to see, so I was just very kind of
- 59:01like, thank you very much, and I just walked away and I said
- 59:06I hope you had a good manifest And that was pretty much it. And
- 59:07then I met up with you guys and then we were like, well,
- 59:10it's about three o'clock. Do you want to see if Dave is down for
- 59:13a meal? Yeah, because we couldn't eat with him the day previous,
- 59:16so I called Dave, let's say let's go get food. Yeah, and
- 59:20Dave was like, yeah, perfect timing. We just came out of the
- 59:22thing and we're looking for something to do and we're like, yeah, let's
- 59:24kind So we went and we ate at the public House, which is really
- 59:29it was interesting. It was different. It's different than I remember. I
- 59:32don't remember automatic ordering being a thing. Yeah. Basically it was like contactless
- 59:37ordering. So essentially they put qrcos on their tables and you would scare them
- 59:42with your phone and would take you to their website and you could see their
- 59:44menu. From there, you could order your meal. Yeah, I phone
- 59:47your phone either individually or you could do it as a group and then you
- 59:52basically you basically opened a tap effectively, and you order the food and don't
- 59:59even have to talk. They literally just show up. But you like,
- 1:00:00they'll come up to the table and did somebody order the pepsi and some Yeah,
- 1:00:05and then they give me the pepsi. Yeah, same thing with food
- 1:00:07and they'll come up with the table. I just know which table it is.
- 1:00:09It was kind of odd. Yeah, I don't know that. Yeah,
- 1:00:15like I didn't hit it and it I get it during a pandemic.
- 1:00:17Yeah, perfect. Yeah. There was only one minor snag with the meal,
- 1:00:21and that was that I ordered a root beer and did not know that
- 1:00:23they their machine. Their machine was broken. It happened the CAG the CAG.
- 1:00:29They needed to replace it and they couldn't. So I eventually said,
- 1:00:34you know what, it's fine, I won't have a root beer. I'll
- 1:00:36just do the I'll just take a coke and it'll be fine. Uh,
- 1:00:37and that cop ought to be straight away. They took the root beer off
- 1:00:40with a bill and they didn't charge me for the coke. So so,
- 1:00:45all in all the pleasant experience, but hanging out with Dave was the real
- 1:00:47priest. Yeah, yeah, really, absolutely fantastic. Dave is such a
- 1:00:54delight, and we we talked over like our studio, that we can do
- 1:00:59it. We talked so much about stupid technology. I talked to him a
- 1:01:02lot about the Fane audio book that I would like to become a thing and
- 1:01:07needs to I need to do a kickstarter because I don't have the money for
- 1:01:08it. But kickstarter will probably help fingers crossnock on Wood succeeds. Uh.
- 1:01:15There'll be more about that later, but we're we're very much, very close
- 1:01:19to launching that, so keep your eyes on this face. But we talked
- 1:01:23a lot of business, but we also had some fun talking about Harrison Ford
- 1:01:29who should play him, only to find out that Dave has never seen an
- 1:01:32Indiana Jones movie. Oh maybe we should cut that one. People send him
- 1:01:39letters. Don't want his face to get melted off like that. Nazia d
- 1:01:46yees, Oh my god. Yes. So we had a great time at
- 1:01:50the restaurant, and then after that, we're a couple of animals I wanted
- 1:01:53to catch, and we caught them and they were right after one after another.
- 1:01:57The first one was ten Years of Task Spot, which for those who
- 1:02:00don't know tas Spot is an automated speed running machine basically so crazy and speed
- 1:02:07runs games and breaks them to the point that you can execute your own code
- 1:02:13and start doing even more insane shit like The last one he talked about was
- 1:02:19the try four percent run of I think it was Ocarina of Timely in sixty
- 1:02:23four Legend of Zelda game. He broke the game very specifically to such a
- 1:02:30point that they were able to stream video straight to the n sixty four over
- 1:02:37controller courts two, three, and four, And so they showed a scene
- 1:02:42that didn't exist from Breath of the Wild on a Nintendo sixty four really running
- 1:02:51through the hardware and had everyone on Twitch type the words here together, as
- 1:02:59you know, try to heal after the pain of the pandemic, and so
- 1:03:02the words here together just kept popping up all over the screen rapid fire,
- 1:03:07like insanely insanely uh, beautiful moment and gesture in a video game to have.
- 1:03:16But otherwise, like they just talked about it, they didn't show it.
- 1:03:20So I was like, oh, I wanted to see videos, Yeah,
- 1:03:27I don't want to see it there, And then the last panel was
- 1:03:30again Eric, she was on it. Oh my god, that was so
- 1:03:32good. It was an It was a panel called I Said What, and
- 1:03:37it was basically like half quiz, half Q and a like these these apparent
- 1:03:42these podcast hosts. I don't know who this podcast, has never heard of
- 1:03:45him in my life, but they apparently came up where they would ask these
- 1:03:53voice actors. They would give these voice actors a line, no context,
- 1:03:58just the line and no livery, just like as bare bones they could,
- 1:04:01and then the voice actor would have to guess what character of theirs said that
- 1:04:06line because it was the voice line that they had said at some point in
- 1:04:12their Yeah, and they started with softballs. Pretty much everybody got there their
- 1:04:15opening one right, except for poor Erica. It was kind of funny,
- 1:04:19but to be fair, they told her that they also could have quolled for
- 1:04:25her years upon years, hundreds and hundreds of hours of role play sessions,
- 1:04:30which is absolute you know how hard that would be a lot of character.
- 1:04:40Yeah, well, things you'd come up with too, Like most of the
- 1:04:44other sort of like lines they did not write for Erica, there'd be things
- 1:04:47that she came up with, Like, you know, so, I don't
- 1:04:51wonder if it might actually be easier if you're like oh, I came up
- 1:04:55with that line that was mine. You know, maybe it didn't win.
- 1:05:00Imagine her. He didn't wind up coming up. So there was a lot
- 1:05:01of fun as they tried to guess their lines on this. There was a
- 1:05:04short Q and A. They had people lined up to ask questions. They
- 1:05:09all answered them and it was a pretty good panel. It was a great,
- 1:05:12great panel. And this is where this is where Stevie found out who
- 1:05:15even was. Yeah. I was like, it turns out he's been playing
- 1:05:18as her. He called duty forgotten his whole months months. I just like
- 1:05:27when I got that purple knee on hair and shit, I was like,
- 1:05:29oh, I'm gonna play this one. This is awesome. I'm just like
- 1:05:30kicking ass. He's got like an eye patch and ship. I'm just like
- 1:05:33destroying people. And come to find out it's like, oh, this is
- 1:05:35her. Oh fuck, Yeah, that is so cool man, Like we
- 1:05:39all have a connection to the same person different like different reason games and voice
- 1:05:44acting, but you know, different reasons in those. Yeah, and that
- 1:05:46right there gave you me that extra Oh shit, I want to learn a
- 1:05:49little bit more about her and like to see what else. So I started
- 1:05:53deep diving a little bit more. I'm like, it's kind of cool.
- 1:05:55Yeah, I've been out of the voice. I think, like look up
- 1:05:57game forever, like I've done it so long. So that like wound down.
- 1:06:02Day two, we came back to the airbnle we played video game.
- 1:06:06You'll it starts with coffee and board games that ends with a video game.
- 1:06:16It's like a break all right, and a lot and real quickly we can
- 1:06:23do day day three. Yeah, day three you seem to go buy it
- 1:06:25way faster. Yes, it was definitely a widening down day. Yeah,
- 1:06:29and once again started with coffee words same as that coffee is because I was
- 1:06:32like my stomachs doing good getting the same thing again. Played a different board.
- 1:06:38Yeah, we played Ascension, which Stevie destroyed us at yet again,
- 1:06:44and this time we saw it coming and we were just kind of, oh
- 1:06:46that was the card game. Yea. Yeah, we're just we're just gonna
- 1:06:50We're just gonna let it happen. It's fine. Stevie absolutely destroyed us in
- 1:06:55that game and we just kind of let it be. Uh And from there
- 1:07:00hebe wanted to go get Eric's signature himself. Yeah, So it was I
- 1:07:04think right before we left the Airbnb I was like, fuck this, I'm
- 1:07:10signing up to get her autogram. So I jumped on my phone real quick.
- 1:07:14I signed up for her noon fifteen. I think it was Moon fifteen
- 1:07:18on the signing and I was like, all right, cool, well what's
- 1:07:21started heading over that way? And we did, and then that's where we
- 1:07:25broke off because I was going to stand in line, yeah, and while
- 1:07:28they went and did what they did. So I stood in line for a
- 1:07:31bit and I had my cane. It was cool, and then they ended
- 1:07:33up. I was pretty it up in front. I was like first fifteen,
- 1:07:36yeah, and then they split the line in two. They said,
- 1:07:39oh, this is for who's going Now, We're gonna make an art line
- 1:07:42right here next to you for Eric She. I was like, oh shit,
- 1:07:45so I move over and I'm like fifth. I'm like okay, so
- 1:07:47I'm from from like fifteen to fifth. I'm like this is kind of cool,
- 1:07:50and I'm talking to somebody else and we're just like bullshitting. And they've
- 1:07:53only been to MAGFest once before. It was a couple behind me and they
- 1:07:56were only here for like a day, and I loved it so much,
- 1:07:59and they came out this time still, I went a ball and they said,
- 1:08:00this is our kind. It was really neat talking to them for a
- 1:08:02bit, and then the people are heading up in front of me and it
- 1:08:08was my time to go, and I hobble my little broken ass up to
- 1:08:11her table and she's like, oh my god, thank you so much for
- 1:08:14waiting so long. Wow, it's okay. I was really excited for a
- 1:08:18couple of reasons. Why I found out really who she was, and I'd
- 1:08:21like to say, characters all the damn time. And two because I brought
- 1:08:25our signage book that I used to bring to all the conventions, Like you
- 1:08:28the anime North I haven't. Yeah, so this book, I don't know
- 1:08:32if you guys ever seen the anime. It's called Death Note. Check it
- 1:08:38out. It's really good. It's only two seasons, I think. Yeah,
- 1:08:41it's like twenty four episodes. It's awesome. It's really good. Pretty
- 1:08:45much, if you write a name in this book, that person dies how
- 1:08:48you write it or whatever. So I've had multiple actors, voice actors and
- 1:08:53whatnot getting people sign this book throughout the years and years. So I brought
- 1:08:57that with me. As i'm holding it, I'm about to handle her the
- 1:08:59book and she almost stands up like no, no, no, no,
- 1:09:02no, no, no no no, not putting my name in that book.
- 1:09:06And I started to laughing. I was like, listen, listen,
- 1:09:08there's the story guy that explained her to the story. She's like, okay,
- 1:09:11I'll do it for you. And I opened it up and what I
- 1:09:13was using for a bookmarker inside the book was our hydrate or diedraate new logo
- 1:09:17button that had to be a Y on it. And I was like,
- 1:09:19oh cool. And I was like, oh, this is for you,
- 1:09:20and she took the button. She's like, oh my god, this is
- 1:09:24great. I'm going to keep this. And I told her about the podcast,
- 1:09:28told her about how I was big in the Call of Duty and stuff
- 1:09:30and how you were into dangan Ropa and you spoke with her yesterday or whatever,
- 1:09:34and she's like, I saw your tweet earlier this morning. And I
- 1:09:36was like, that's cool because she liked that. And then from that point
- 1:09:42I thanked her for everything, like hooking all us all up and stuff,
- 1:09:45and she's like, I'm going to make sure I keep this so I can
- 1:09:46remember your podcast. I was like, I really appreciate it. We had
- 1:09:49two hundreds and stuff. It was really cool. Apologies, I had a
- 1:09:54diametic sorry, but no, it was cool, like she laughed about and
- 1:09:59everything. We talked for like a like maybe another thirty seconds. It was
- 1:10:01really neat, like we're there for a little bit. And then I walked
- 1:10:04away, said thank you and whatnot, and met up with you guys at
- 1:10:08that point. Yeah, and she wrote inside the death note on her page,
- 1:10:14I will never I'll never die. I'm good on it forever. And
- 1:10:18I was like, that's amazing. So that made me so happy. And
- 1:10:23that's when I met up with you guys at that Yeah, I hobbled over
- 1:10:27to where you guys were playing video games, I think, yeah, yeah,
- 1:10:30Doggie and I were doing our own thing. We played some pinball and
- 1:10:34I rolled around for a bit on some of those machines. I found one
- 1:10:38of that didn't quite work, kind of a it's a very popular machine though
- 1:10:44it's a Valley's Theater of Magic. It's really really solid pinball table when it
- 1:10:47works. Part so we had but we had some fun with that, and
- 1:10:53then Stevie rolled up and then we were like, okay, we're getting close
- 1:10:57to the time to the video improv. Oh yeah, and this is the
- 1:11:04extra studio guys so good in collaboration with guys called Whose Role is It Anyway?
- 1:11:12I think, which is like an improv a d n D slash podcast
- 1:11:17slash performing event. I don't know exactly what they do, but they're all
- 1:11:20pretty good. They did some fantastic impro It was funny as hell. It
- 1:11:26was the audience members come up from recidly every schop yeah in the end one
- 1:11:31right, yeah, pretty much and it was done so well yeah, and
- 1:11:35they were all you can do they did it, and then Dave up there.
- 1:11:42Yeah, like somebody you know, Dave is an incredible solorious Oh my
- 1:11:53god, that impression was on what was great? It was delightful, lifeful.
- 1:12:00Imagine that you're playing love Connection. Yes you kind of you kind of
- 1:12:04get what Dave was doing. It was so good, so good, it
- 1:12:09was so good god. So yeah, so we had fun. We saw
- 1:12:13Dave one more time. I signed his copy of Fame, which was awesome.
- 1:12:17She brought all by himself and I signed that, so that was like,
- 1:12:20that was me. And then he signed Stevie's Death No. Yeah,
- 1:12:25so I got Dae as well, which was great because it just right after
- 1:12:30Eric. Yeah. So Dave wrote to my Brosky Stevie keep on rocking the
- 1:12:35mic and geeking out with me about said Mike's and I was like hell yeah.
- 1:12:42I I every now and then have a tendency to just like message Dave
- 1:12:46like yo, you got time to talk shop, and usually it's like yeah,
- 1:12:53And I was like all right, No, we talked for like five
- 1:12:54minutes. It's been cool, like connected that. It has been fun.
- 1:13:00Yeah. Yeah. And after that we just kind of we wandered around.
- 1:13:03We wanted to see if there's anything else we wanted to do, because there
- 1:13:06was. There was another panel after that, but I wasn't terribly interested in
- 1:13:10it. Oh yeah, it's a video game named that too. And also
- 1:13:13it was filling out fast, right, Yeah, that's one of the more
- 1:13:15popular ones. I don't know why they don't put it in like a bigger
- 1:13:18venue, like that should be in panels. One that should be in a
- 1:13:21face room, because it's always standing room only every time I go to it.
- 1:13:26You think this year, I was like, you know what, I
- 1:13:29can give it a pass. I usually don't know the songs anyway. They're
- 1:13:32usually from newer games, which kind of stinks for me. The one more
- 1:13:35retro, not even I mean, the only current game I play. It
- 1:13:39is like like Call of Duty, and it's just like I feel I can
- 1:13:42reliably I can reliably name songs from video games I like from the PS two
- 1:13:46and Xbox Era on back, but anything past that is a little bit more
- 1:13:51difficult. So it was just like, it's I probably won't enjoy it as
- 1:13:56much as others. So I was like, I'll give it a pass.
- 1:13:58And I was like, is there anything else you go want to do before
- 1:14:00we leave? Because there's you know, once we leave, we're probably not
- 1:14:02going back for Sunday. So we were like, let's see if we can
- 1:14:08play board games. Our game place was full. It was absolutely packed,
- 1:14:13ridiculously filled. We could have sat at three different tables we wanted there weren't
- 1:14:17playing with other people. There were a few individual seats open here and there,
- 1:14:21but sitting the three of us together with nyon impossible. Keep it bye
- 1:14:27is Saturday, it is the peak. Ye, people who couldn't come on
- 1:14:33Thursday Friday because they were working are now going to be there. And yes,
- 1:14:36yeah it was. It was as full as MAGFest. Well that's okay
- 1:14:41because as I said it earlier on in our episode, we are white old
- 1:14:45men. Yes we were. We got today, so we were. You
- 1:14:53know what, We're just going to call it an early day. We've had
- 1:14:56as much fun as we can pack into MAGFest this year and to all this
- 1:15:00stuff. There's extra stuff that I would have liked to have done, but
- 1:15:02only if they'd been here, and they weren't here this year. So I
- 1:15:06was like, you know what I got. I got to meet Eric.
- 1:15:09She agreed. We all got signatures, and I got a bunch of I
- 1:15:14got a bunch of merch. Oh yeah, one of those points when I
- 1:15:16think, I think one of those points when you guys were separated from me.
- 1:15:21Like I took like a half trip through the Fender area and I dropped
- 1:15:26eighty five bucks. I bought a ton of prints. I am bringing them
- 1:15:31all home and putting them up immediately. So good, Like I got,
- 1:15:36I got rid of a lot of merch. Yeah, it made me happy
- 1:15:39as fun. Like seriously, I'm glowing the fact that we loved today and
- 1:15:43nothing, it was nothing left. He gave it out to everybody, everybody
- 1:15:45I could were like it was cool, Yeah, it was. It was
- 1:15:50a fun time. Is it my first time here at Macfist. I gotta
- 1:15:54say the same. It was really nice. Compared to other conventions I've been
- 1:15:58into the past, this was seems more my speed. Yeah, agreement,
- 1:16:02it's a very It's the thing I love the most about MAGFest is it is
- 1:16:06very is very chill vibe. It is is a very everybody's got to be
- 1:16:12cool, uh, you know sort of attitude. So everybody, everybody's helpful,
- 1:16:15Everybody is nice and pleasant, and it's very easy to strike up a
- 1:16:18conversation with a stranger, which I don't usually do. I mean, the
- 1:16:24at MAGFest, I feel a little bit more comfortable doing it because I know
- 1:16:27people are more likely to be cool. I mean there's always going to be
- 1:16:30an asshole or too yes, you know that never happens, but MAGFest attendees
- 1:16:34and staff and security are going to make that person see the air of their
- 1:16:40ways pretty quickly. Tell there's there's not a lot of tolerance for for being
- 1:16:45a jerk, and that's a lot of tolerance for the intolerance. Yeah,
- 1:16:47exactly. And everything is very progressive and cool, uh. And there's so
- 1:16:53much to see and so much to do. Just walking around with the cosplay
- 1:16:57that was all around us was incredible. Well, that one the first day
- 1:17:01we met this woman riding him around. My god, it was absolutely amazing,
- 1:17:06incredible, everything more particulated and it was everything I boot this new.
- 1:17:15Yes, it was pretty amazing. So yeah, so MAGFest has an absolutely
- 1:17:20immaculate five. It is always a pleasant place to be and there there is
- 1:17:26a lot to do. Granded sometimes they're taking up, but it just means
- 1:17:29you have to wait a little while, which is fine. There's always as
- 1:17:31long as your patient, you will get a chance to do the thing you
- 1:17:34wanted to do. So it's nice. I would say plane ahead, especially
- 1:17:41because I say about that until I've looked in I say plan ahead if you're
- 1:17:45going to go to a panel show up half an hour early. It's just
- 1:17:46the smart thing to do. Another good thing is to bring a small backpack
- 1:17:51or a small thing that you can keep light food and snacks in because keep
- 1:17:57buying them from a store, expect it in the In the hotel can be
- 1:18:01pricing. Yeah, the the Starbucks fees are reasonable. Everywhere else is not.
- 1:18:08Yeah, so yeah, so that's a thing to be aware of.
- 1:18:12You should always have liquid on you some kind generally speaking, and of course
- 1:18:16bundle up and stay warm because it is always in like the third or second
- 1:18:20week, so it's always gonna be fucking cold. I don't know what possessed
- 1:18:29them to choose this time of year, but maybe it was just because it's
- 1:18:31not a lot of other counts going on this year. Probably availability, yeah,
- 1:18:35it's probably available forever. And also, yeah, just be prepared to
- 1:18:41enjoying music at a moment's notice. That third that third day of coffee,
- 1:18:45we were sitting listening to an entire choir in order. It was the first
- 1:18:50thing they did was the Halo theme, which was for absolutely all the years
- 1:18:59playing Halo, and they had an electric guitar to playing the electric guitar.
- 1:19:01Yeah, perfect. It was just it's just it's such a lovely place and
- 1:19:09so much music. Just you're just walking down toward the expo halls and you'll
- 1:19:13hear somebody playing something you know, or you'll be heading back to the lobby
- 1:19:17to getting ready to leave and there's a string court tap playing for some reason.
- 1:19:23It's just it's just Macfest the way it is. The music is everywhere.
- 1:19:27It's delightful as out it really is. I would definitely come back here
- 1:19:30again. Yeah, I would definitely drag your asses back here. Hopefully when
- 1:19:35Matt ben Ruine is back, and George la and we'll just make it a
- 1:19:43we'll do the trifecta. And da he's not back, we can just drag
- 1:19:50him along. I'll we got table. Oh my god, not kidnapping a
- 1:20:02voice. Yeah, he's a friend. I'm pretty sure we've already run long.
- 1:20:10Oh yeah, I definitely run long. And I don't know about you
- 1:20:12guys, but I'm exhausted. Yeah, I'm sorry to talk about. Finally,
- 1:20:16that was b F I t w's adventure through MAGFest. I hope you
- 1:20:20all enjoyed listening. I hope you all who were listening attended as well.
