- 0:00Speaker 1: Even though a contract may say NET thirty, you're probably
- 0:03Speaker 1: not going to get paid for NET two hundred.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Hi everyone, welcome back to another episode of Clyde Confidential.
- 0:14Speaker 2: I'm excited to introduce you to my guest today. I
- 0:16Speaker 2: well guess actually, I have New York City girl and
- 0:20Speaker 2: fashionista Lily Sisto with me and her head of brand,
- 0:24Speaker 2: Sophie Crackoff, and we are live from the Hampton's doing
- 0:28Speaker 2: today's episode.
- 0:29Speaker 3: So thanks for being here.
- 0:31Speaker 4: So excited and honored to be here. This is my
- 0:33Speaker 4: first podcast that's crazy crazy and really hard to believe.
- 0:37Speaker 4: No better place to do it than out in the Hamptons.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Well, I'm honored to have you both and so excited
- 0:41Speaker 2: to learn more about you and your story, and I'm
- 0:44Speaker 2: just so impressed by you. So it's very yay Sophie.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Where are you dialing in from.
- 0:50Speaker 5: I'm in the city Upper east Side, so it's pretty
- 0:55Speaker 5: good weather all things considered. I think there was like
- 0:57Speaker 5: a tornado here yesterday.
- 0:59Speaker 6: I know.
- 1:01Speaker 2: If I was okay, I was like I would probably
- 1:03Speaker 2: start checking the weather. But yeah, anyways, thank you for
- 1:06Speaker 2: dialing in. So I guess my question I will start like,
- 1:10Speaker 2: how long have you guys been working together over three years.
- 1:14Speaker 4: I think three or four years.
- 1:15Speaker 5: They'll be four years for four years at the end
- 1:21Speaker 5: of the year. Yea.
- 1:22Speaker 3: And how did you guys initially meet each other?
- 1:25Speaker 1: So we initially met just through the fashion industry. Sophie
- 1:29Speaker 1: was working in influencer marketing for a big beauty brand
- 1:33Speaker 1: and I was working in PR at the time, and
- 1:35Speaker 1: I think we just went for drinks at the Crosby
- 1:38Speaker 1: Street Hotel and then we just kind of became friends
- 1:41Speaker 1: from there. And I remember a few months later, Sophie said,
- 1:45Speaker 1: you know, I'm going to start my own agency, and
- 1:48Speaker 1: I didn't have any representation at the time. I was
- 1:50Speaker 1: it was fairly new to me, a new industry and
- 1:54Speaker 1: new era. And I said, well, I'll be your guinea pig,
- 1:57Speaker 1: you know, let's see how this goes. And here we
- 2:00Speaker 1: are four years later.
- 2:02Speaker 3: I love it.
- 2:03Speaker 2: I mean, it's so I think working with friends can
- 2:05Speaker 2: go one of two ways. So you guys obviously must
- 2:07Speaker 2: have felt a deep sense of trust and knew intuitively
- 2:12Speaker 2: that like this is something that would work because I've worked.
- 2:15Speaker 3: With friends and it's you.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Know, unfortunately gone south. So you guys clearly have like
- 2:20Speaker 2: such a strong foundation.
- 2:22Speaker 3: So good for you, guys.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Yeah, we were lucky. I think it was also nice.
- 2:26Speaker 1: We weren't like best you know, we didn't like start
- 2:29Speaker 1: as like best friends and like, it just was this.
- 2:32Speaker 1: It was such a perfect balance of being friends but
- 2:35Speaker 1: also colleagues. And I don't know, and over the years
- 2:39Speaker 1: it's taken us, I mean, it's taken us time to
- 2:41Speaker 1: get into our groove and figure it out. And but
- 2:45Speaker 1: whatever we have going on works so well and.
- 2:48Speaker 3: We're very lucky, amazing.
- 2:49Speaker 2: So before you started doing content creation and being the
- 2:54Speaker 2: fashionist so that you are today, what were you doing
- 2:57Speaker 2: career wise?
- 2:59Speaker 1: So I started my career in PR. I was an
- 3:01Speaker 1: assistant at Tory Birch.
- 3:03Speaker 3: You were an assistant.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I was an assistant, and I quickly learned that being
- 3:09Speaker 1: an executive assistant was not I was not put out
- 3:12Speaker 1: for it. I am just way too creative in add
- 3:15Speaker 1: And this was back when there were landlines, guys, and
- 3:18Speaker 1: the call would come in and I'd have to you know,
- 3:20Speaker 1: there were like five numbers you'd have to transfer, you know,
- 3:23Speaker 1: if Honor was calling or whoever. And I would always
- 3:26Speaker 1: mess it up and it was just funny. And I
- 3:29Speaker 1: also learned quickly that I really enjoyed being on the
- 3:32Speaker 1: VIP side. More so when I was at Torri and
- 3:35Speaker 1: I became really good friends with the VIP girls.
- 3:37Speaker 4: I was like, can I help you with the styling
- 3:39Speaker 4: and the projects, and just kind of getting my hands
- 3:42Speaker 4: on whatever I could.
- 3:44Speaker 1: And then I went to Love shek Fancy and I
- 3:47Speaker 1: was there for three years and I did all of
- 3:48Speaker 1: their pr an influencer in VIP, which was incredible.
- 3:52Speaker 4: I mean, what Rebecca has created.
- 3:53Speaker 2: She's one of my clients, but she is. Yes, I've
- 3:55Speaker 2: gotten her every assistant who now works for her. We
- 3:58Speaker 2: love Rebecca.
- 3:59Speaker 1: I mean the world of love Shack Fancy and what
- 4:01Speaker 1: she's created is incredible. And it was so I think.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I was there at such a fun time. I had
- 4:06Speaker 1: so much freedom. If I wanted to make an idea happen,
- 4:09Speaker 1: I could and it was so fun. And then I
- 4:12Speaker 1: was like, you know, I really need to test out
- 4:14Speaker 1: luxury and so I went to Margella, Marnie and Jill
- 4:17Speaker 1: Sander and I actually three months into the job, I
- 4:20Speaker 1: got laid off.
- 4:21Speaker 4: And it was the best thing that could have ever
- 4:23Speaker 4: happened to me.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Blessing in disguise, complete blessing in disguise, and it was.
- 4:27Speaker 1: It was actually right when Sophie and I started working
- 4:29Speaker 1: together and I had already I had like just started
- 4:34Speaker 1: making more money influencing than I was, you know, whatever
- 4:38Speaker 1: the PR salary was.
- 4:41Speaker 4: But you know it's scary.
- 4:42Speaker 1: You're like, Okay, I really have to take a leap
- 4:43Speaker 1: of faith here and figure it out and work my
- 4:45Speaker 1: butt off because that you're the one paying the bills.
- 4:49Speaker 1: And I think that, you know, getting laid off was
- 4:51Speaker 1: the best thing that could have ever happened because it
- 4:53Speaker 1: made me.
- 4:56Speaker 4: Where I am today.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Yeah, and here we are.
- 4:58Speaker 5: I was also leaving the corporate world, so I feel
- 5:00Speaker 5: like we're both leaving corporate at the same time. Oh yeah,
- 5:04Speaker 5: like looking at each other like okay, we have to
- 5:07Speaker 5: make this happen, Like.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Yeah, we don't have any other option. They're all going
- 5:12Speaker 1: back to corporate, that's for sure.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Once you're out of corporate, you cannot go back.
- 5:16Speaker 4: No.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I only worked one year of a corporate.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Job, and I never I mean I never looked back
- 5:20Speaker 2: because I was an assistant in my office was like
- 5:22Speaker 2: remote and then my boss's house, so I was only
- 5:25Speaker 2: in a cubicle for one year.
- 5:26Speaker 4: But everyone, I think everyone needs to do it.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I do think as a little disservice to this younger
- 5:32Speaker 1: generation to just automatically want remote jobs and to be
- 5:36Speaker 1: at home, because you need to be in an office
- 5:38Speaker 1: and be around people and see what it's like and
- 5:41Speaker 1: get yelled at.
- 5:42Speaker 3: You know, it's one thousand persons. It build character, it does.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Yeah, Sophie, what were you doing before you decide to
- 5:48Speaker 2: start your agency?
- 5:50Speaker 5: So I was working in the influencer social space for
- 5:55Speaker 5: seven or eight years. I was at a mix of
- 6:00Speaker 5: like bigger conglomerates like I was. I started at Este Lauder.
- 6:05Speaker 5: I went on to work for a small boutique creative
- 6:08Speaker 5: agency called Metier, where I was working not just on beauty,
- 6:14Speaker 5: but we also had like Miami Design District and some
- 6:19Speaker 5: other really cool clients. And then the pandemic happened, and
- 6:25Speaker 5: I worked for Halsey's beauty brand and I was on
- 6:28Speaker 5: like the pre launch team, so I was like the
- 6:31Speaker 5: second marketing hire, and I saw what it was like,
- 6:34Speaker 5: you know, going from a bigger company to a tiny
- 6:38Speaker 5: agency to a startup. And then I ended up back
- 6:41Speaker 5: at another big conglomerate. I was at Schoseado after About Face.
- 6:44Speaker 5: So I really like Lily tried like every size and
- 6:51Speaker 5: like facet of the industry I was in.
- 6:53Speaker 7: And when I left.
- 6:55Speaker 5: I was a senior manager of Integrated Comms at Shoseado,
- 6:58Speaker 5: So I was all the paid.
- 7:02Speaker 7: Paid partnerships, doing all the like.
- 7:05Speaker 5: Brand trips and negotiating with agents and meeting with talent
- 7:11Speaker 5: all the time.
- 7:12Speaker 7: And it was something.
- 7:17Speaker 5: That I had no experience in really managing talent.
- 7:23Speaker 7: But I spent a lot of time with talent.
- 7:24Speaker 5: Obviously, you know, it was a small Those teams are
- 7:27Speaker 5: really small, and you know, you spend so much time
- 7:32Speaker 5: with the people that you're working with that we were
- 7:36Speaker 5: working with for Crusado, you know, go on trips with
- 7:39Speaker 5: these creators or I would just you know, always every
- 7:42Speaker 5: week going out to dinner. So I knew I liked
- 7:46Speaker 5: being around the creator space, but I decided to just
- 7:51Speaker 5: try going on the other side. And yeah, it was
- 7:55Speaker 5: really just like a perfect timing for and I were
- 8:00Speaker 5: able to start working together like immediately. So yeah, when
- 8:05Speaker 5: people ask like, how did you get Lily as a client,
- 8:07Speaker 5: It's like she was just we were it was one
- 8:12Speaker 5: of it was the first her first manager and my
- 8:17Speaker 5: first you know client, So it was it was great,
- 8:21Speaker 5: And yeah, I haven't looked back. Obviously it's completely different
- 8:28Speaker 5: from what I was doing before, but that experience was
- 8:31Speaker 5: really helpful. I think just having seen the brand side
- 8:35Speaker 5: of things and then now being on the creator.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Side totally, that's so important, especially when you're negotiating and
- 8:41Speaker 2: doing deals for her. I feel like that that prepared
- 8:44Speaker 2: you so much.
- 8:45Speaker 5: Yeah, even just like when we were starting out, like
- 8:49Speaker 5: you know, I was constantly approving content for the brand
- 8:55Speaker 5: and just having that like background of you know, you
- 8:59Speaker 5: when you're filming beauty ad you need the packaging to
- 9:01Speaker 5: be like facing forward. You need to have the product
- 9:05Speaker 5: be in the first three seconds, like those things that
- 9:08Speaker 5: no one thinks about, or you know you just watch
- 9:10Speaker 5: like an influencer video and you don't realize how many,
- 9:13Speaker 5: like how much of it is actually like highly produced.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Such an incredible eye aside from being you know, an
- 9:23Speaker 1: amazing business person and negotiating and all of that. Like
- 9:27Speaker 1: she's so creative, like Sophie which a lot of people
- 9:30Speaker 1: probably don't know, takes all of.
- 9:31Speaker 4: My photos, oh my videos, edits.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Everything, So she's a jack of ultra incredible.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Yeah, because we don't have an assistant.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Right, No, we've tried it and we ultimately we just
- 9:45Speaker 1: work so well just the two of us and yeah,
- 9:50Speaker 1: we tried it and we're yeah.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Well, now you've got a girl.
- 9:54Speaker 2: So when you're ready for a new a new person
- 9:56Speaker 2: to enter the chat as you guys continue to grow
- 9:59Speaker 2: your empire, you call me.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:03Speaker 2: So what I guess drew you guys to each other
- 10:06Speaker 2: initially besides the fact that you were friends or what
- 10:08Speaker 2: made you realize that you were about to get down
- 10:10Speaker 2: this career path and you needed someone to help drive
- 10:13Speaker 2: the ship And Sophie, I guess the same for you,
- 10:16Speaker 2: Like what made you realize that like this felt like
- 10:18Speaker 2: your next calling.
- 10:19Speaker 1: I mean, I think eventually you realize. I mean I
- 10:22Speaker 1: think a lot of people try and do it on
- 10:23Speaker 1: their own for as long as you can, but having
- 10:25Speaker 1: someone that can negotiate on your behalf and kind of
- 10:28Speaker 1: vouch for you behind you know, I'm also the type
- 10:32Speaker 1: of person I like being very, very involved and you know,
- 10:36Speaker 1: on every email and knowing like exactly what's happening and
- 10:40Speaker 1: all of that.
- 10:41Speaker 4: And I think, you.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Know, Sophie was like, you know, you need to like
- 10:45Speaker 1: let me, I got this, let me handle it.
- 10:48Speaker 4: I will do it.
- 10:49Speaker 1: And even you know, we recently brought on. We have
- 10:52Speaker 1: an agent too. I have the best team. I'm so lucky.
- 10:56Speaker 4: Who is your Uta?
- 10:57Speaker 3: Uta? Amazing?
- 10:58Speaker 1: The best team in the world, and so the fact
- 11:00Speaker 1: that we all work so well together and you know,
- 11:03Speaker 1: but it's been a learning curve. Sophie's like you have
- 11:06Speaker 1: to let go a little bit, like you cannot be
- 11:07Speaker 1: on every email because it's not it's not good, Like
- 11:10Speaker 1: I don't need to be seeing the back and forth
- 11:12Speaker 1: negotiations and like, you know, all the.
- 11:16Speaker 4: All of the ins and outs.
- 11:18Speaker 1: But it's been amazing too, because I feel like this summer,
- 11:20Speaker 1: I'm like, now I'm actually doing what I'm supposed to
- 11:22Speaker 1: be doing. I'm creating, I'm making the content. I don't
- 11:25Speaker 1: need to be on every emil. Yeah, and it's been
- 11:28Speaker 1: great and so yeah, I'm like, did that answer the question?
- 11:31Speaker 4: But yeah, I don't know.
- 11:33Speaker 1: I think I saw Sophie's like drive and determination and
- 11:39Speaker 1: I feel like it's always a feeling. And I knew
- 11:42Speaker 1: very early on that I trusted Sophie, and you know it.
- 11:45Speaker 1: I would say, this is like it's a very intimate
- 11:47Speaker 1: relationship because the only person that knows how much money
- 11:50Speaker 1: you're making and you discuss everything. I mean, I think
- 11:54Speaker 1: it's like a marriage. Sophie is my first call in
- 11:56Speaker 1: the morning and the last call at night pretty much.
- 11:59Speaker 4: And yeah, we probably talk.
- 12:03Speaker 7: Yeah, you can't like hide anything.
- 12:05Speaker 5: Yeah, you know everything that's going on in your personal lives,
- 12:08Speaker 5: each other's personal lives, and especially with being a content creator,
- 12:13Speaker 5: like you have to have people on your team that
- 12:16Speaker 5: are clued into what's going on because you know, you
- 12:20Speaker 5: have good days and bad days, and you know there's
- 12:23Speaker 5: days where you just don't really want to film, and
- 12:26Speaker 5: just having someone who you've worked with for a period
- 12:30Speaker 5: of time who like understands when you need like a
- 12:34Speaker 5: day off camera, Like that's that's so important.
- 12:38Speaker 1: I feel like, and I feel like we pick up
- 12:40Speaker 1: on each other's moods so quick, like if I don't
- 12:43Speaker 1: know if there's anything like going on personally, like I know,
- 12:46Speaker 1: I could not be on Instagram for three weeks and
- 12:49Speaker 1: so we've got it handle, Like she.
- 12:52Speaker 4: Not a doubt in my mind.
- 12:54Speaker 2: How do you on that note, like, how do you
- 12:56Speaker 2: decide when you're doing content what feels too personal versus
- 13:00Speaker 2: what you're going to share Because your job is I
- 13:03Speaker 2: guess your followers they all want to know certain things
- 13:05Speaker 2: it's like, how do you balance that.
- 13:08Speaker 1: I feel like I have done a very good job.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I think I decided early on, like I'm not going
- 13:12Speaker 1: to overshare too much of my personal life because it's like,
- 13:16Speaker 1: I mean, the Internet, it's a really scary place, so scary,
- 13:20Speaker 1: really really scary, and Reddit really freaks me out, and
- 13:24Speaker 1: so anytime, like I see something on there, I'm just
- 13:26Speaker 1: like you. I mean, you just kind of have to
- 13:28Speaker 1: laugh about it because the things that people say are
- 13:30Speaker 1: so ridiculous.
- 13:31Speaker 7: But Reddit, I.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Don't look any more. I don't look anymore.
- 13:36Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean I I don't share my relationship.
- 13:40Speaker 1: I don't share my my family. Yes, because my sisters
- 13:45Speaker 1: are now creators, we're together.
- 13:49Speaker 4: That's great.
- 13:50Speaker 1: But like I try, I really try and not post
- 13:52Speaker 1: anything personal because everyone has so many opinions, and then
- 13:55Speaker 1: you feel like you owe people explanations and people are
- 13:59Speaker 1: just so quick to jump to conclusions and you know, X,
- 14:03Speaker 1: Y and Z. So I try and just keep it.
- 14:06Speaker 1: I try and keep it real though, Like I I think.
- 14:09Speaker 4: I built my entire platform.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I'm being authentic and I am the same person sitting
- 14:14Speaker 1: here that I am online. But the Internet doesn't need
- 14:17Speaker 1: to know everything.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it is a scary place, and like people will
- 14:21Speaker 2: come at you like it's like the person coming at
- 14:23Speaker 2: you as like an older like sad.
- 14:30Speaker 4: You know.
- 14:31Speaker 3: That's like when like you're on.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Your couch like judging everyone's outfits from like them that
- 14:35Speaker 2: gala and you're like sweatsuit, Like do you know those
- 14:37Speaker 2: memes that I'm talking about. It's always like the person
- 14:39Speaker 2: who's just like it's like, what do you do in man?
- 14:42Speaker 4: Yeah, and never say never.
- 14:43Speaker 1: But I do not think that I will share my
- 14:46Speaker 1: children on social media.
- 14:48Speaker 3: I think that's really healthy. Yeah, I think that's really healthy.
- 14:51Speaker 1: But I feel like you have to make the decision
- 14:53Speaker 1: you either show them or you don't, putting the photo,
- 14:56Speaker 1: the the emoji over the face.
- 14:59Speaker 3: I know, I know. That's like it's like huh, like
- 15:02Speaker 3: it's like why, Yeah, I did see.
- 15:06Speaker 2: I forget her name, but there was an influencer who
- 15:09Speaker 2: had been posting her children and somewhat one of her
- 15:12Speaker 2: fans showed up at the school that her kids go to,
- 15:15Speaker 2: or I guess went up to one of her children
- 15:17Speaker 2: being like, are you so and So's daughter? And like
- 15:20Speaker 2: I used to not really understand why people didn't show
- 15:22Speaker 2: their kids until I saw that posting and realized how
- 15:26Speaker 2: scary and creepy and risky it is.
- 15:28Speaker 3: It's really free that social.
- 15:31Speaker 1: And I think the weirdest thing is I like, I
- 15:33Speaker 1: remember I was walking around, you know, West Village, and
- 15:35Speaker 1: I saw I recognized someone's children with the nanny, and
- 15:38Speaker 1: I was like, this is so creepy that they're not
- 15:40Speaker 1: even with the mom yet. And I just know what
- 15:42Speaker 1: these kids look like from social media.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Yeah, so yeah, well I really respect that decision.
- 15:48Speaker 6: It's a lot we'll see, Yeah, but yeah, no, I
- 15:52Speaker 6: think we do a good job of keeping everything private
- 15:56Speaker 6: and not oversharing respect.
- 15:59Speaker 2: So when when you guys are negotiating a deal, walk
- 16:02Speaker 2: me through that process. So it goes to Sophie first,
- 16:05Speaker 2: or does it go to your agent first?
- 16:07Speaker 1: It did go to so Sophie was negotiating every deal
- 16:11Speaker 1: back to her being the jack of all trades, and
- 16:13Speaker 1: when we recently brought on Uta, so it goes to Uta.
- 16:19Speaker 1: They negotiate the deal, they present you with the offer,
- 16:23Speaker 1: and then Sophie's I mean, Sophi, you can explain the
- 16:27Speaker 1: next ups.
- 16:27Speaker 5: Once you accept the offer, then there's a separate execution
- 16:32Speaker 5: thread that's created, and that's where I step in. So
- 16:36Speaker 5: before I was doing you know, the pre offer negotiation,
- 16:40Speaker 5: the contracts. Now Uta handles all that, which is amazing,
- 16:44Speaker 5: and I handle everything from post sale, so like you know,
- 16:50Speaker 5: getting the look book, having Lily help, you know, helping send,
- 16:56Speaker 5: send in whatever products she needs to be ordered, getting
- 17:00Speaker 5: the brief, downloading Lily on that, shooting the content with her,
- 17:05Speaker 5: sending it in, you know, doing the edits needed, sending
- 17:08Speaker 5: it in, getting feedback from the brand, sending in new content.
- 17:13Speaker 7: Hopefully no reshoot.
- 17:16Speaker 5: Usually there's no reshoot, but if there's a reshoot or
- 17:18Speaker 5: something like that, you know you can't predict, and then
- 17:23Speaker 5: making sure everything goes live, and then sending in the
- 17:26Speaker 5: analytics after. So it's they're long email threats, like it's
- 17:31Speaker 5: not you know, I think people just think someone's gets
- 17:36Speaker 5: a check to promote a serial and they just hop
- 17:39Speaker 5: on TikTok and say whatever they want and it's it's
- 17:43Speaker 5: all super you know.
- 17:44Speaker 7: There's a there's a long system. Usually it takes weeks.
- 17:50Speaker 5: Sometimes the brands want it turned around very quickly, but
- 17:54Speaker 5: in order to do that, you're you know, you're on
- 17:56Speaker 5: a chain of like sixty emails that for a three
- 17:59Speaker 5: day time and around so everything moves very quickly, and yeah,
- 18:05Speaker 5: it's a.
- 18:06Speaker 7: Lot, it's a lot of back and forth, but.
- 18:09Speaker 5: I used to be doing all of that on the
- 18:11Speaker 5: brand side, so it feels like very second nature and
- 18:15Speaker 5: it's great.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like a lot of people don't realize
- 18:18Speaker 1: so much back and forth there is, from when you
- 18:22Speaker 1: get when you get a deal to when you see
- 18:24Speaker 1: it live on Instagram or TikTok, like to Sophie's point, like,
- 18:28Speaker 1: I mean I've seen some threads that have one hundred
- 18:30Speaker 1: back and forth. And obviously some clients are absolutely incredible
- 18:34Speaker 1: to work with and it is so easy and seamless,
- 18:37Speaker 1: but it's usually the smaller brands that are so picky
- 18:42Speaker 1: and demanding and sometimes not very kind to work with.
- 18:46Speaker 1: I mean we've had, I mean I've worked with over
- 18:49Speaker 1: like one hundred and fifty brands, Like.
- 18:52Speaker 4: Yeah, some of them are. Yeah, it's it's kind of crazy.
- 18:55Speaker 1: I mean obviously with email, you know, people can hide
- 18:57Speaker 1: behind an email username and not be right, very enjoyable
- 19:02Speaker 1: to work with.
- 19:02Speaker 4: But then it's fine because then we don't work with
- 19:04Speaker 4: them again.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's super shocking to hear and very
- 19:08Speaker 2: unfortunate because it's like they should be grateful that you're
- 19:11Speaker 2: willing to work with them and collaborate.
- 19:13Speaker 3: And you're so nice.
- 19:14Speaker 2: I can't imagine someone giving you a hard time, but yeah,
- 19:17Speaker 2: it is shocking.
- 19:18Speaker 5: Like yeah, but then and I'm not confrontational at all,
- 19:22Speaker 5: So that was another thing where like I'm definitely have
- 19:25Speaker 5: more the manager personality than I do the agent personality.
- 19:30Speaker 5: Like I'm not someone who likes to have hard conversations.
- 19:35Speaker 5: So for UT to come in and you know, be
- 19:38Speaker 5: like that that's their bread and butter, that's amazing. I
- 19:42Speaker 5: feel like, you know, we try to be as accommodating
- 19:47Speaker 5: as possible, but sometimes, yeah, we'll get like a crazy
- 19:49Speaker 5: email or some crazy demand, you know, or something where
- 19:54Speaker 5: it just it's not organic for Lily. And yeah, you
- 19:58Speaker 5: you know, you want to please everyone and especially the brands,
- 20:01Speaker 5: but you do have to like protect the creator too.
- 20:03Speaker 2: You know totally, because you want to protect the authenticity
- 20:07Speaker 2: of your own right.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Like it's funny because like some brands will be like,
- 20:10Speaker 1: you know, we want X, Y and Z, and it's like, well,
- 20:12Speaker 1: then you should have hired a model in a studio
- 20:16Speaker 1: to shoot this, not I make my organic content because.
- 20:20Speaker 4: That's what performs well yeah.
- 20:22Speaker 1: So, but I mean it's it's so cool to be
- 20:25Speaker 1: able to test out working with all these different brands
- 20:28Speaker 1: and see who you like working with and who are
- 20:30Speaker 1: the best, and then those are like the people you
- 20:32Speaker 1: keep working with and work with again.
- 20:35Speaker 4: Yeah, totally.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Has there been a pinch me moment since you started
- 20:39Speaker 2: doing all of this or a favorite project that you
- 20:42Speaker 2: guys have worked on together.
- 20:43Speaker 4: I mean so many. I feel like, like Sophi and
- 20:47Speaker 4: I text each other weekly.
- 20:48Speaker 1: We're just like we can't believe what we've created and
- 20:50Speaker 1: what we've been able to do. I think the first
- 20:52Speaker 1: was I did a collection for Dillard's. This was like
- 20:56Speaker 1: the shoes, right, it was clothes and shoes and bags.
- 21:00Speaker 1: And I just remember being in we had the party
- 21:02Speaker 1: in Dallas because I went to school in Texas and
- 21:05Speaker 1: there's a huge Diller store at the North Park Mall there.
- 21:08Speaker 1: I just remember like seeing my name there in the
- 21:10Speaker 1: store and like seeing young girls coming to shop.
- 21:12Speaker 4: I just like, this is crazy. And it was in
- 21:15Speaker 4: I think it was in like three hundred and fifty stores.
- 21:18Speaker 3: That's insane.
- 21:18Speaker 4: So that was You're so sweet. That was incredible.
- 21:22Speaker 1: This Roller Rabbit collection was really amazing because I had
- 21:25Speaker 1: been a fan of Roller Rabbit since I was in
- 21:27Speaker 1: high school.
- 21:28Speaker 8: We all grew up wearing the like yes, the monkey, Yeah,
- 21:31Speaker 8: the monkeys.
- 21:33Speaker 1: There's there's so many And I think Sophie and are
- 21:36Speaker 1: very good at setting milestones and you know, saying like
- 21:38Speaker 1: we want to hit X amount of dollars this year
- 21:40Speaker 1: or whatever, and so when that happens, were just it's crazy.
- 21:46Speaker 3: So cool.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Are you guys manifesting working with a certain brand or
- 21:50Speaker 2: company this year or is there anyone on your hit list?
- 21:54Speaker 1: There's a lot I think in the doing more in
- 21:59Speaker 1: the food space, like dream Dream Dream would be like
- 22:02Speaker 1: a shake Shack menu item. I think that would be incredible.
- 22:06Speaker 1: I don't know, we have have a lot, what do
- 22:08Speaker 1: you think?
- 22:08Speaker 7: So I think food for sure.
- 22:11Speaker 5: The great thing about working with Lily is that you
- 22:15Speaker 5: know she's like a true lifestyle creator. So it's not
- 22:19Speaker 5: just fashion obviously, you know she has great style, but
- 22:23Speaker 5: her audience loves food and travel and home design and beauty.
- 22:32Speaker 5: So I think food would be a really fun one.
- 22:35Speaker 5: We're both very big foodies and it's such a creative
- 22:41Speaker 5: space to play in and there's so many overlaps with
- 22:45Speaker 5: fashion obviously, between those two worlds. So I think it'd
- 22:49Speaker 5: be really exciting to bring her sense of style into.
- 22:54Speaker 7: Food in some way, maybe shake shack.
- 22:59Speaker 4: Listening.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Yeah, and I also, I mean eventually starting my own brand,
- 23:04Speaker 1: so we're working on it.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Hell yeah, I feel like you're very close to that.
- 23:09Speaker 3: I mean, what you've built is incredible.
- 23:11Speaker 2: My digital team is like, if you want to have
- 23:14Speaker 2: a social media podcast and presence, you need to start posting.
- 23:17Speaker 2: And I'm like, this is so unnatural to me. So
- 23:20Speaker 2: they were like, do it on your personal So I
- 23:22Speaker 2: made a Meg from Clyde account.
- 23:24Speaker 3: I have like two followers.
- 23:25Speaker 4: Oh, I need to follow that. You're private nothing.
- 23:28Speaker 2: My personal is private, but my Meg from Clyde I
- 23:31Speaker 2: have like zero followers. I'm like, just starting out, it
- 23:34Speaker 2: is so hard. It is so hard, and I'm very
- 23:38Speaker 2: good at having conversations with people, but putting myself out there,
- 23:41Speaker 2: I'm not that It's been a learning curve for me.
- 23:44Speaker 3: So I just respect you so much.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Like it's tough out there.
- 23:49Speaker 1: It is, and it's like a weird I mean, I
- 23:51Speaker 1: remember in the beginning, I can't remember who said this, actually, Okay,
- 23:55Speaker 1: Audrey Peters, I think she said that. She said, you know,
- 23:57Speaker 1: it's cringe until your success full. And it's true, and
- 24:02Speaker 1: people will make fun of you and tell you not
- 24:03Speaker 1: to do it. I mean, I remember when I started.
- 24:06Speaker 1: I'll never forget I started. I was living in La
- 24:09Speaker 1: I started the Instagram in La.
- 24:11Speaker 4: Yeah, three years. I was working for Tory in La
- 24:14Speaker 4: Cool have a tiny press office.
- 24:16Speaker 1: But I remember, I think it was twenty eighteen and
- 24:18Speaker 1: I said, I'm just going to start on Instagram. It's
- 24:20Speaker 1: called Lily's Latest. I'm just going to share what I
- 24:23Speaker 1: love because I always That's.
- 24:25Speaker 4: Why I started it.
- 24:25Speaker 1: It was like sharing the latest skincare product or the
- 24:29Speaker 1: best burger or whatever it may be, or the greatest hotel,
- 24:33Speaker 1: and I would just like post school screenshots.
- 24:36Speaker 4: But I remember my sister.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Saying, this is such a saturated market area, we don't
- 24:41Speaker 1: need another blogger, we don't need another influencer.
- 24:43Speaker 4: And I'm like, look at me, not literally like and yeah,
- 24:49Speaker 4: So I mean I remember doing that.
- 24:50Speaker 1: And then it was during it was right after COVID,
- 24:54Speaker 1: so like a little bit past the TikTok kind of
- 24:57Speaker 1: blow up era. But I when I was working at
- 25:00Speaker 1: Love Shak Fancy, I was living in this cute little
- 25:02Speaker 1: studio in West Village, and I was like, I guess
- 25:04Speaker 1: I'm just gonna post my outfits every day going to work,
- 25:07Speaker 1: and I would prop up my phone, you know, on
- 25:10Speaker 1: Perry Street and do a little twirl like I feel
- 25:13Speaker 1: like I started this twirl but that's kind of how
- 25:17Speaker 1: it started, and people like loved it. And I actually
- 25:20Speaker 1: started more on TikTok doing the outfits and being like,
- 25:24Speaker 1: come to work with me fashion pr.
- 25:26Speaker 4: Girl and it was yeah, so cool.
- 25:29Speaker 1: But I remember kind of feeling not embarrassed, but like
- 25:32Speaker 1: a little worried, like at work, like.
- 25:34Speaker 4: What would everyone think? And right?
- 25:36Speaker 1: But I actually think it kind of helped because I
- 25:39Speaker 1: would like show cool ways to wear love shak fancy
- 25:41Speaker 1: and kind of give it my like edgy twist to it.
- 25:44Speaker 3: That's really cool. It's very authentic. I love your story.
- 25:47Speaker 3: I think it's like, I mean, it is an.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Oversaturated market and there's so many girls and guys out
- 25:53Speaker 2: there trying to do what you've done, and it's hard.
- 25:57Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:58Speaker 1: And I think the other thing is too, is like
- 25:59Speaker 1: you can't copy and paste, like as many people try
- 26:02Speaker 1: and copy you and do what you want, like there's
- 26:04Speaker 1: only one me, so you can't you can't copy what
- 26:07Speaker 1: someone else is doing. You will be successful at whatever
- 26:10Speaker 1: you may be doing because you are original and bring
- 26:13Speaker 1: your own perspective and have your own ideas and.
- 26:17Speaker 4: Your own career.
- 26:18Speaker 1: And these girls that just copy and paste and you know,
- 26:21Speaker 1: I want to do exactly what you're doing.
- 26:23Speaker 3: Good luck, I agree. I agree.
- 26:25Speaker 2: I'm going to ask both of you this, Lily, first,
- 26:28Speaker 2: what is an important business lesson that you've learned since
- 26:31Speaker 2: you've been in the space.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Oh so many? Well, I think it's like being a
- 26:36Speaker 1: first time founder. I mean, these are things that you
- 26:38Speaker 1: do not learn in college. And I mean doing your
- 26:41Speaker 1: own taxes and realizing that you really have to stay
- 26:44Speaker 1: like on top of the finances and knowing that you
- 26:48Speaker 1: have to delegate things that you might not be good
- 26:51Speaker 1: at to other people, Like Thank goodness, I have an
- 26:53Speaker 1: incredible bookkeeper. I'm an amazing tax person. I'm a great
- 26:56Speaker 1: finance person. I you know, weekly so and I go
- 27:00Speaker 1: through the finances and making sure like there wasn't an
- 27:03Speaker 1: invoice missed. Realizing that even though a contract may say
- 27:08Speaker 1: net thirty, you're probably not going to get paid for
- 27:11Speaker 1: net two hundred. You have to chase brands for many
- 27:14Speaker 1: It was so crazy.
- 27:15Speaker 2: I had a client who will not be named, who
- 27:18Speaker 2: ignored emails from us for two years and it was
- 27:23Speaker 2: a very tiny invoice and it was very it just
- 27:28Speaker 2: felt disrespected.
- 27:31Speaker 3: And then they asked.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Us to set up a payment plan over the course
- 27:35Speaker 2: of another year and we finally got paid I think
- 27:37Speaker 2: this year, but it was from twenty twenty two and
- 27:40Speaker 2: it was my goodness, So I understand that. And it's
- 27:43Speaker 2: it's it's offensive, it's it's like I have to pay
- 27:46Speaker 2: my Yeah, I have to live.
- 27:49Speaker 4: I mean, it's crazy. There are there are.
- 27:51Speaker 1: Still brands from partnerships in twenty twenty five I haven't made.
- 27:56Speaker 4: It's crazy.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Well, then you just don't work with them again.
- 27:58Speaker 4: Yeah, it's so.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I think like the business ins and
- 28:03Speaker 1: outs and like really running a successful company and making
- 28:07Speaker 1: sure it's running smoothly and getting paid on time, and
- 28:11Speaker 1: that has been a learning curve, but.
- 28:13Speaker 4: You just have to stay on top of it totally.
- 28:15Speaker 4: What do you think?
- 28:15Speaker 7: So yeah, no, I agree, I think, yeah, to your point, like.
- 28:21Speaker 5: Delegate things that you're not great at, like something that
- 28:25Speaker 5: UTA now handles is like chasing those payments, which is amazing.
- 28:29Speaker 7: Like they have a whole system.
- 28:31Speaker 5: I mean, they know, they know that you can't expect
- 28:35Speaker 5: to get paid for everything, which is so crazy that that's.
- 28:38Speaker 7: How it is, but it's just the way.
- 28:42Speaker 5: Yeah, it's the freelance Like the freelance world is like
- 28:47Speaker 5: payments get missed all the time. So yeah, having people
- 28:52Speaker 5: who can who can support you with that. But I
- 28:57Speaker 5: would say just the the balancing act of it all.
- 29:03Speaker 7: And prioritizing is like so important.
- 29:05Speaker 5: You know, you have so many things that you can
- 29:09Speaker 5: be doing and should be doing, and you know, a
- 29:12Speaker 5: lot of a lot a lot of days there's organic
- 29:16Speaker 5: content and ads and replying to dms, and they're all
- 29:22Speaker 5: like in very different headspaces. So just making sure that
- 29:27Speaker 5: like you stay on top of everything. It's very it's
- 29:32Speaker 5: very hectic, and the events and a lot of moving
- 29:34Speaker 5: parts and meetings.
- 29:37Speaker 4: The multitasking, I mean, it's great.
- 29:40Speaker 3: I can't even imagine.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Also because my brain, like Sophie, is so calm and
- 29:45Speaker 1: methodical and very like very very organized, where my brain
- 29:50Speaker 1: I'm like, Okay, well I have this idea this morning,
- 29:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna film these ten things right now and then
- 29:54Speaker 1: but I need to go to run to that event,
- 29:56Speaker 1: but then I also need to take ten meetings later.
- 29:58Speaker 4: Like so it's very very hard to a lot.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Yeah, time management and all of that, but we've gotten
- 30:06Speaker 1: we have figured.
- 30:06Speaker 4: Out such a good groove.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Like Mondays we're like, okay, Mondays are pretty much admin days.
- 30:10Speaker 1: We both like, sit down, go through all the emails,
- 30:14Speaker 1: figure it out. Tuesdays we film, So I mean, no,
- 30:18Speaker 1: no day or week is the same. Also, because I
- 30:20Speaker 1: have an insane travel schedule.
- 30:22Speaker 2: I know, I feel like you're always somewhere. I'm an
- 30:25Speaker 2: avid follower. I love it, but I don't There's one
- 30:29Speaker 2: other person that I know who travels as much as you,
- 30:31Speaker 2: and it is like, I don't know how you do it.
- 30:33Speaker 4: I don't know either.
- 30:35Speaker 1: I've just I think I'm so used to it and
- 30:37Speaker 1: I've just become so accustomed.
- 30:39Speaker 3: But how fun too.
- 30:40Speaker 1: It's so fun, And I know it's not gonna last forever. I'll,
- 30:44Speaker 1: you know, when I have babies and I'm gonna have
- 30:47Speaker 1: to not settle down, but like it won't, it won't
- 30:50Speaker 1: be as hectic as it is right now. But I
- 30:52Speaker 1: love it, and I've gotten into such a good groove
- 30:54Speaker 1: that I know I can fly in somewhere for twenty
- 30:56Speaker 1: four hours.
- 30:57Speaker 4: It's work, and I'm out of skill it's a skill,
- 31:01Speaker 4: so it's good.
- 31:03Speaker 3: It's amazing.
- 31:03Speaker 5: You're also someone who you're very good with people, obviously,
- 31:08Speaker 5: and that's I mean, that's something well that's unique to
- 31:13Speaker 5: you as an influencer. I think like a lot of
- 31:15Speaker 5: people think that all influencers are like the most bubbly,
- 31:19Speaker 5: outgoing people because they're speaking to this huge audience every
- 31:22Speaker 5: day and it's really such a mix. But Lily's like
- 31:26Speaker 5: a social butterfly. You're very extroverted, So you're someone who
- 31:30Speaker 5: like thrives in those environments like always, you know, seeing
- 31:34Speaker 5: new people and going to events and traveling and making
- 31:37Speaker 5: new connections. So I feel like it's not draining because
- 31:42Speaker 5: you naturally enjoy it.
- 31:45Speaker 4: But then I do need like two weeks.
- 31:46Speaker 1: At home, yeah, to rite on my couch and not
- 31:50Speaker 1: see anyone.
- 31:51Speaker 3: I can imagine.
- 31:52Speaker 1: As much of an extrovert I am in the business world,
- 31:55Speaker 1: I love doing that, like just being home. Yeah, Like
- 31:59Speaker 1: that's why the summer has been so nice, because it's
- 32:01Speaker 1: just it's been like good, such a breath of fresh air,
- 32:05Speaker 1: not just not that many work events. I also think
- 32:09Speaker 1: as we've grown the business like and evolved, I don't
- 32:12Speaker 1: have to say yes to as many things, whereas when
- 32:14Speaker 1: you're first starting out you need to go to every event,
- 32:17Speaker 1: you meet every person where It's like now you can
- 32:20Speaker 1: be more selective, which is I mean, I'm very grateful
- 32:22Speaker 1: for that good.
- 32:25Speaker 2: So guys, what are some funny moments that you've had
- 32:29Speaker 2: working together or is there one particular story that was hilarious.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Oh, I'm trying to think so many.
- 32:39Speaker 7: I mean, we've had some crazy trips around.
- 32:42Speaker 3: The world, or maybe it's a memorable trip.
- 32:46Speaker 7: Our first Paris Fashion Week trip was very memorable.
- 32:49Speaker 5: You know, we were just starting out, so it wasn't like,
- 32:53Speaker 5: you know, the big hotel room that you see influencers
- 32:56Speaker 5: posting in, like we were in this little airbnb. I
- 33:00Speaker 5: think the plumbing stopped working at one point. Like we
- 33:03Speaker 5: were there for ten nights. I think, like did not
- 33:06Speaker 5: need to be there the entirety of fashion week. But
- 33:09Speaker 5: we were just so happy to be there and like
- 33:15Speaker 5: honestly grateful to be.
- 33:18Speaker 7: Going to things. And you know.
- 33:22Speaker 5: Now we've done like six or seven seasons together in
- 33:26Speaker 5: Paris and now we've added Milan, and but that first
- 33:29Speaker 5: trip was so it was so fun, like there was
- 33:31Speaker 5: really no pressure that we put on ourselves.
- 33:34Speaker 7: It was like.
- 33:37Speaker 5: Really just like learning, like how how it all works,
- 33:42Speaker 5: because you know, no one tells you like, Okay, so
- 33:46Speaker 5: you're gonna go to fashion Week and this is what
- 33:48Speaker 5: you should do?
- 33:48Speaker 7: Like we had no we were.
- 33:50Speaker 8: Just having fun and there's no there's no toolbook for it,
- 33:56Speaker 8: which I think is I mean back to like the
- 33:59Speaker 8: learning curves and it's like no one teaches you about
- 34:03Speaker 8: this industry and there's not.
- 34:07Speaker 4: Totally.
- 34:08Speaker 5: You're just like with millions of followers, you know at
- 34:12Speaker 5: the Bristol and you're like, okay, I'm here and I
- 34:16Speaker 5: or maybe a lott I'm you know, somewhere behind the middle,
- 34:19Speaker 5: and I want to be one day like that, Like
- 34:21Speaker 5: what what do you do? Because you don't just show
- 34:23Speaker 5: up to Paris? No, you could, but kind of have
- 34:27Speaker 5: to have some idea of a plan.
- 34:29Speaker 2: So well, now you guys are probably veterans for Fast Week.
- 34:32Speaker 4: We're getting there. It's it's fun.
- 34:34Speaker 1: It's it's such a fun time too because everyone that
- 34:38Speaker 1: you might not get to see in New York you
- 34:40Speaker 1: end up having drinks with and meeting new people and
- 34:43Speaker 1: it's just fun.
- 34:43Speaker 4: You can't take it too seriously.
- 34:46Speaker 7: My husband came one time.
- 34:48Speaker 5: That was another funny memory, and he got to see
- 34:50Speaker 5: her walk into on Armani show in Milan, and you know,
- 34:55Speaker 5: he's like, doesn't know anything about that world really, and
- 34:59Speaker 5: just seeing like the kerfuffle that happens outside these shows.
- 35:04Speaker 5: You know, it's not like in New York. It's tons
- 35:07Speaker 5: of photographers and people screaming and seeing like how we
- 35:13Speaker 5: work with a photographer before the show to get images
- 35:15Speaker 5: of her outfit and walking her in and what that
- 35:18Speaker 5: looks like.
- 35:18Speaker 7: So that was fun to like show him a little
- 35:20Speaker 7: behind the curtain of.
- 35:23Speaker 5: What what actually happens, like what going to a fashion
- 35:26Speaker 5: show even means?
- 35:28Speaker 7: What you know what that is.
- 35:32Speaker 2: It's such a crazy cool I've gotten with Jen when
- 35:35Speaker 2: I was her assistant. We used to go with your
- 35:38Speaker 2: so I went four times and you're right, like it's
- 35:42Speaker 2: so chaotic, Like walking behind her, I would always have
- 35:45Speaker 2: like fortunes and like she'd look stunning and I'm like
- 35:48Speaker 2: this is crazy, like that pop Ratsy would come out
- 35:50Speaker 2: of like a tree, like a bush, and You're like,
- 35:52Speaker 2: where did you come from?
- 35:53Speaker 3: Like it was it's so chaotic and.
- 35:55Speaker 4: It's so intimidating.
- 35:56Speaker 3: It's so intimidating.
- 35:57Speaker 1: You're just like I am the little fish in this
- 35:59Speaker 1: big Yeah you just but Sophy's like, you walk in
- 36:03Speaker 1: there with confidence if you got this.
- 36:06Speaker 5: So yeah, I am really try to be a hype
- 36:10Speaker 5: woman in those situations because yeah, I mean I would
- 36:13Speaker 5: be terrified.
- 36:14Speaker 7: Too, but it's just, oh, he needs one person telling
- 36:19Speaker 7: you to be confident.
- 36:20Speaker 2: So well on being confident and being a boss woman.
- 36:25Speaker 2: What is a piece of advice or pieces of advice
- 36:28Speaker 2: that you would give a younger human who's trying to
- 36:32Speaker 2: do what you're doing, okay or not younger, but anyone
- 36:36Speaker 2: who's trying to.
- 36:37Speaker 1: I think the most important thing is that you have
- 36:40Speaker 1: to be kind because you know we were talking about
- 36:43Speaker 1: all these other clients and stuff. People don't forget how
- 36:46Speaker 1: you treat them. So you just have to have a
- 36:49Speaker 1: very good attitude and be excited about every opportunity and
- 36:54Speaker 1: not have an ego. And I think, you know, back
- 36:57Speaker 1: to like this younger general, but this I feel like
- 37:01Speaker 1: these younger girls they don't want to work as hard
- 37:03Speaker 1: as I mean, I remember when I was an intern,
- 37:06Speaker 1: Like I would stay until midnight. It was unpaid, and
- 37:11Speaker 1: what can what can I do to make your life
- 37:14Speaker 1: easier and your job easier?
- 37:15Speaker 4: And like I just want to learn.
- 37:16Speaker 1: From you, whereas like nowadays, I'm gonna We've had like
- 37:19Speaker 1: horrible interns.
- 37:20Speaker 4: They're like, I need to leave at five o'clock.
- 37:22Speaker 3: And then I'm not going to be on my phone
- 37:23Speaker 3: from when.
- 37:24Speaker 1: I leave, not gonna be on my phone, Like as
- 37:27Speaker 1: if you're inconveniencing them. It's like, but you're not going
- 37:30Speaker 1: to get very far. Like you have to want to
- 37:32Speaker 1: work hard and work your butt off and help because
- 37:36Speaker 1: this this younger generation generation is in trouble.
- 37:40Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's unfortunate because as much as you're like,
- 37:43Speaker 2: is the gen Z thing like a real thing?
- 37:45Speaker 3: It's a real thing.
- 37:46Speaker 2: And I'm not here to lecture you guys, but I
- 37:47Speaker 2: want you to know how hard it was for us
- 37:50Speaker 2: you were interns.
- 37:51Speaker 7: Unfortunately.
- 37:52Speaker 5: I think I had someone tell me like not to
- 37:54Speaker 5: cut my hair when I was an intern, and that
- 37:58Speaker 5: like long hair.
- 37:59Speaker 7: They me with long hair. It's just you can't say
- 38:02Speaker 7: those things. That's crazy. It's a different world.
- 38:04Speaker 2: But like the unpaid internships, like all the summers of that,
- 38:07Speaker 2: and then like staying late and going around to everyone
- 38:10Speaker 2: on the floor, how can I help? You don't get
- 38:12Speaker 2: that these days, don't And also the outfits when we
- 38:16Speaker 2: were interns.
- 38:16Speaker 3: I remember literally wearing Tory Brich flats.
- 38:19Speaker 1: And sho my gosh, I would like wake up so
- 38:21Speaker 1: early to be like what am I going to wear today?
- 38:24Speaker 2: Polished and professional and these kids they don't.
- 38:29Speaker 3: It's nuts.
- 38:30Speaker 2: They were athleisures or like a crop talk and like
- 38:33Speaker 2: booty shorts and you're like, wait, but I know that
- 38:36Speaker 2: this isn't a total corporate environment, but we need to
- 38:39Speaker 2: be better here.
- 38:40Speaker 3: Totally crazy.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Yeah, what do you think so best piece of advice
- 38:44Speaker 1: you would give?
- 38:45Speaker 3: Yes, what is the best piece of advice?
- 38:47Speaker 5: I think if you want to work with a creator,
- 38:51Speaker 5: like be on their team, try to either get experience
- 38:56Speaker 5: before you I mean before you hop to being like
- 39:00Speaker 5: an assistant or you know, joining their team in some capacity.
- 39:05Speaker 5: Try to either get some experience on like the talent
- 39:09Speaker 5: agency side or on the influencer marketing side so you
- 39:13Speaker 5: can understand kind of how the business works. Because again,
- 39:21Speaker 5: it's not something that you can you can look up
- 39:25Speaker 5: and get.
- 39:26Speaker 7: A very clear picture of.
- 39:29Speaker 5: It's very you know, secretive, not secretive in a bad way,
- 39:32Speaker 5: but it's private. You know how deals get done and
- 39:36Speaker 5: if you're not in it or you haven't seen it,
- 39:40Speaker 5: it can just that would definitely give you a leg up.
- 39:43Speaker 5: And I would also say like being really on top
- 39:48Speaker 5: of social media. I mean that's something that all young people,
- 39:52Speaker 5: I think have that advantage of, like being very dialed
- 39:56Speaker 5: in and being on social a lot. But yeah, you
- 40:01Speaker 5: kind of have to. You're expected to know kind of everything.
- 40:06Speaker 5: And I'm thirty one now and I still try, like
- 40:11Speaker 5: I spend an insane amount of time online every day
- 40:14Speaker 5: trying to understand like what's happening in the space and
- 40:20Speaker 5: what can we adapt for Lily and what's her strategy
- 40:23Speaker 5: looks like.
- 40:24Speaker 7: And you never stop learning.
- 40:26Speaker 5: So you know, I taught myself countless, like editing apps
- 40:31Speaker 5: and all these things that.
- 40:34Speaker 7: I would have never.
- 40:35Speaker 5: Thought I would learn, But yeah, you have to just
- 40:39Speaker 5: keep learning, and it's yeah there the more you know,
- 40:45Speaker 5: It's like when people used write on their resume, I know, Excel,
- 40:48Speaker 5: and it would be like, okay, check, like now you
- 40:52Speaker 5: know everything, you know every tracking analytics platform, like put
- 40:57Speaker 5: it all on there, because it's really it's really helped
- 41:00Speaker 5: good advice.
- 41:01Speaker 2: People Actually don't put that on the resume.
- 41:03Speaker 4: No, yeah, like no one cares about word and.
- 41:08Speaker 3: I hope you know how to use we want to
- 41:09Speaker 3: know if you.
- 41:10Speaker 4: Can use cap cut and editing YouTube, And.
- 41:15Speaker 3: That's great advice.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Actually, I hope whoever's listening, if you're interested in this
- 41:18Speaker 2: space or social media or whatever it is, put.
- 41:22Speaker 3: That on your resume, definitely.
- 41:24Speaker 2: So having worked together for four years, now, how do
- 41:28Speaker 2: you guys maintain trust and what's a boundary that helps
- 41:31Speaker 2: keep your relationship healthy?
- 41:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I think.
- 41:37Speaker 1: I think as intimate as our relationship is, like, I
- 41:41Speaker 1: think trust is the most important thing. And very odd
- 41:45Speaker 1: we just said, you know, we I think we do
- 41:48Speaker 1: so many things that like are only I know about them,
- 41:51Speaker 1: and only Sophie knows about them, and it's no one outside.
- 41:54Speaker 4: It's the circle of trust.
- 41:55Speaker 1: No one outside, even like my partner or Sophie's husband
- 42:00Speaker 1: or whatever, like it is just us that we.
- 42:02Speaker 4: Don't talk about. And I don't know, we just established
- 42:05Speaker 4: that really early on. And I literally would trust Sophie
- 42:09Speaker 4: with my life.
- 42:10Speaker 1: I do trust Sovie with my life. So I don't
- 42:13Speaker 1: know if there's a perfect answer for it, but we
- 42:15Speaker 1: just I don't know. Trust is the most important thing.
- 42:18Speaker 1: If trust is lost and there's no going back, there's
- 42:22Speaker 1: no going back. And I think we're we've It's taken
- 42:25Speaker 1: us a bit to get into a groove around boundaries,
- 42:28Speaker 1: but we're very good at Like on the weekends we
- 42:30Speaker 1: try and not really talk about work and both kind
- 42:33Speaker 1: of shut off and really like, you know, take the
- 42:37Speaker 1: time to be with our loved ones or friends or whoever.
- 42:41Speaker 4: But it's hard because I mean we talk.
- 42:43Speaker 1: One hundred and fifty times a day, so I don't know,
- 42:46Speaker 1: we just have a good groom and we're very lucky.
- 42:49Speaker 7: Yeah. I think.
- 42:53Speaker 5: To the trust part, I think that you know, trusting
- 42:58Speaker 5: each other with ideas and you know, we're obviously we
- 43:05Speaker 5: do a lot of things separately, like Lily will travel
- 43:08Speaker 5: for events and I'll be in New York, or you know,
- 43:14Speaker 5: just having like that inherent trust that we're both working
- 43:20Speaker 5: to build something together and doing our parts. Like obviously
- 43:24Speaker 5: what we do is very different, but we're coming together
- 43:27Speaker 5: for one common goal. So you know, she trusts me
- 43:31Speaker 5: with social trends that I think she should try, or
- 43:37Speaker 5: if she wants to talk about something on her channel
- 43:40Speaker 5: like our channels, I'll trust her inherently with that. I
- 43:45Speaker 5: think you have to like believe that the other person
- 43:50Speaker 5: believe in their ideas and trust that, like.
- 43:55Speaker 7: Just trust them.
- 43:57Speaker 5: And in terms of boundaries, yeah, it's really hard. I mean,
- 44:03Speaker 5: I think in the beginning it's it's when you're just
- 44:08Speaker 5: starting something, you want to be talking about work constantly,
- 44:12Speaker 5: and we're both very passionate about what we do. But
- 44:18Speaker 5: I think now that we've been doing this for a
- 44:21Speaker 5: handful of years, my biggest concern for Lily is always
- 44:26Speaker 5: just and I guess for myself too, it's just protecting
- 44:28Speaker 5: from burnout because I think that's something a lot of
- 44:31Speaker 5: creators struggle with. And yeah, just even figuring out times
- 44:40Speaker 5: that we can shut off on the weekends.
- 44:43Speaker 7: You know, it's not always like that.
- 44:44Speaker 5: A lot of times content needs to be done over
- 44:47Speaker 5: the weekend, or there's like events on a Friday or
- 44:50Speaker 5: Saturday or Sunday, so it's not always the case. But
- 44:54Speaker 5: trying to trying to unplug as much as you can,
- 44:59Speaker 5: because it's it's really it's like you have to rest.
- 45:04Speaker 5: It's like being a singer. You have to rest your voice.
- 45:06Speaker 5: You have to You shouldn't be constantly.
- 45:10Speaker 3: On, especially like online.
- 45:12Speaker 2: I feel like that could be tough if you fall
- 45:14Speaker 2: into like the whole of.
- 45:15Speaker 1: Oh it's yeah, it's crazy, But like I mean, I
- 45:18Speaker 1: delete the Instagram app off my phone all the time,
- 45:21Speaker 1: all the time.
- 45:22Speaker 5: And I think it's good to like good for you
- 45:24Speaker 5: be outside and like experience new things and you know,
- 45:29Speaker 5: not always be filming something, but like go to a
- 45:31Speaker 5: museum or you know, go to local shops and that's
- 45:36Speaker 5: like that's where she gets inspiration for the things that
- 45:39Speaker 5: she shares that are so loved. So you kind of
- 45:43Speaker 5: have to like nurture nurture that part of yourself as well,
- 45:47Speaker 5: because if you're just constantly on your phone, you're not
- 45:51Speaker 5: going to see anything out there and get inspiration from anything.
- 45:55Speaker 5: You can't just look at you know, yourself all the time.
- 45:57Speaker 5: You have to experience the world.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Yeah, And also it's not to say that we don't
- 46:02Speaker 1: disagree on things. I mean, I think every healthy, like
- 46:05Speaker 1: every business relationship, personal relationship, it's good to have disagreements,
- 46:08Speaker 1: but we always come to we talk things through, We
- 46:12Speaker 1: come to a conclusion at the end, and we always
- 46:15Speaker 1: make a decision together, like we will talk it through.
- 46:18Speaker 1: We'll be like here are the pros, here are the
- 46:20Speaker 1: cons Do we like this brand?
- 46:22Speaker 4: Is this a good look? You know X.
- 46:25Speaker 1: There's a million different factors, but we always like really
- 46:29Speaker 1: talk it through. Before making a big decision, and we
- 46:33Speaker 1: and we've turned we turned things down all the time
- 46:35Speaker 1: because it might not align with my values or our
- 46:39Speaker 1: future goals, or we have too much on our plate.
- 46:44Speaker 1: Like I remember last year something in the beauty space
- 46:47Speaker 1: I was like really excited about, but then we like
- 46:49Speaker 1: really talked it through and we're like, this doesn't make
- 46:52Speaker 1: sense for right now. We will put it on the
- 46:54Speaker 1: back burner. And like, I feel like it was a
- 46:57Speaker 1: good thing that we you know, that.
- 46:59Speaker 2: Kind of like makes it like I have a criteria,
- 47:01Speaker 2: have a standard, like if not, it's important not to
- 47:03Speaker 2: say us to everyone, I.
- 47:04Speaker 1: Think totally, yeah, Because I mean when we've gone through
- 47:08Speaker 1: certain periods where we're like we're like we're soburned out,
- 47:11Speaker 1: like we cannot take on one more thing, And like
- 47:15Speaker 1: I feel like right now we're in a season where
- 47:16Speaker 1: it's like it's nice.
- 47:18Speaker 3: It's like a little bit of like we're chilling.
- 47:21Speaker 1: We're chilling, yeah, and but have so many exciting things
- 47:25Speaker 1: to come.
- 47:26Speaker 2: And yeah, I'm sure fall is gonna be nuts, probably.
- 47:29Speaker 1: But I'm soaking in every minute of not having too
- 47:33Speaker 1: much to do out here.
- 47:34Speaker 2: So good good Between the two of you girls, who
- 47:38Speaker 2: is more organized, Sophie. Oh, who's the first one to
- 47:47Speaker 2: arrive to dinner.
- 47:48Speaker 1: Sophie, unless, But I only take the subway in New York,
- 47:51Speaker 1: and I think that the subway is faster. So if
- 47:53Speaker 1: she's in an uper, she's arriving later.
- 47:56Speaker 7: I am very sensitive too.
- 47:59Speaker 5: It's a hot summer day, both, girl. I love an
- 48:03Speaker 5: ac Sometimes I need any or a taxi.
- 48:07Speaker 2: I love the subway station by my old apartment was
- 48:11Speaker 2: really scary.
- 48:12Speaker 3: Fourth Street one.
- 48:13Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, so any other one? A lot of
- 48:16Speaker 4: time there, I'm sorry. I love the subway. I'm a
- 48:20Speaker 4: subway girl, through and through.
- 48:21Speaker 3: It's definitely more convenient.
- 48:22Speaker 2: But like, the closest one to me was so scary,
- 48:25Speaker 2: so I just could never So I would.
- 48:27Speaker 3: I would be the last one to die.
- 48:29Speaker 1: That's a scary one.
- 48:32Speaker 2: Who takes longer to respond to texts, Sophie.
- 48:36Speaker 1: I either respond in thirty seconds or three to ten
- 48:40Speaker 1: business days.
- 48:42Speaker 3: I think I'm the same too. Yeah.
- 48:45Speaker 2: Who's more likely to convince the other person to say yes?
- 48:49Speaker 4: I think me. I don't take no for an answer.
- 48:52Speaker 7: It's true. Yeah, I'm more cautionary.
- 48:55Speaker 3: It's good to be cautionary. Who is the bigger perfectionist?
- 49:00Speaker 4: I think we both are, but in different ways.
- 49:02Speaker 5: There are a lot of things that I'm not a
- 49:04Speaker 5: perfectionist whatsoever about, but they don't apply to my career.
- 49:09Speaker 5: I would say at work, I'd try to be as
- 49:12Speaker 5: as much as possible. I hate typos, I hate I'm
- 49:16Speaker 5: very I don't know. I was an English major, so
- 49:19Speaker 5: I like cross every.
- 49:20Speaker 4: Yeah you take the cake, perfection.
- 49:22Speaker 3: Well, now we've got chats, so yeah, you know who
- 49:27Speaker 3: is more emotional?
- 49:29Speaker 7: Me? Yeah, Lily so emotional. I'm better.
- 49:34Speaker 5: I like to handle someone else's emotions, maybe not myself,
- 49:37Speaker 5: but that's why I'm a manager exactly.
- 49:40Speaker 7: I manage not.
- 49:42Speaker 1: But I will say, like a learning I think a
- 49:44Speaker 1: learning curve has been like you, I realized you can't
- 49:46Speaker 1: be emotional in the business world. So I'm very emotional personally,
- 49:49Speaker 1: but I'm actually in the business world like very matter.
- 49:53Speaker 4: Of fact, your boss.
- 49:54Speaker 1: You can't take anything to like personally, nothing if.
- 49:58Speaker 4: You don't get invite to something, too bad whatever.
- 50:04Speaker 3: Who spends more time on TikTok?
- 50:07Speaker 4: That's a tough one. We spend the one.
- 50:08Speaker 7: We're both pretty obsessed.
- 50:10Speaker 1: I think I love it, but for consuming, not as
- 50:14Speaker 1: much for posting.
- 50:14Speaker 4: I mean, I love posting on TikTok.
- 50:16Speaker 3: It's really fun.
- 50:17Speaker 1: It's very unfiltered, very like whatever I'm doing that day,
- 50:20Speaker 1: but I love it, Like I scroll for hours more
- 50:24Speaker 1: than I have.
- 50:24Speaker 5: Like half of my scrolling is for work purposes, like
- 50:29Speaker 5: you know, gathering data about what we could be doing better,
- 50:32Speaker 5: what we should be doing. And then the other half
- 50:34Speaker 5: is like my personal, non work personality, so like cat
- 50:38Speaker 5: videos that has nothing to do with amazing.
- 50:41Speaker 2: My mind is golden retrievers, healthy food recipes, and then
- 50:45Speaker 2: like interiors, that's what I need.
- 50:47Speaker 4: Not all I've eaten this summer is chicken tenders. I
- 50:50Speaker 4: think try a different one every day. I need some veggies.
- 50:55Speaker 4: What are my favorites out here?
- 50:56Speaker 1: Ron Swamped so good farming for it in South, Yes,
- 51:02Speaker 1: they do have one in South but they have a
- 51:03Speaker 1: little outpost and it's so cute.
- 51:05Speaker 3: They're amazing, so yummy.
- 51:07Speaker 1: And what was the other one? Brent's Fried Chicken. It's
