- 0:45Speaker 1: first incredible, even after Cem Punk gave her the death
- 0:48Speaker 1: clare of all death players on Saturday Night. So Jackie's

- 1:05Speaker 3: Coming in he did. He wanted to get in and uh,
- 1:08Speaker 3: we're gonna let him on. We're gonna we're gonna give
- 1:10Speaker 3: him a test test, run, a little taste test, and
- 1:12Speaker 3: uh see if he can pull off a little moose Booh.
- 1:15Speaker 1: No, he killed it because I thought he was gonna
- 1:17Speaker 1: be more just like crazy, like you know, rabid inspired
- 1:20Speaker 1: Habs fan.
- 1:20Speaker 2: But he was like he's a coach.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I didn't realize that, Like he's yeah, he's a very
- 1:23Speaker 1: knowledgeable hockey fan.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Yeah, you know.
- 1:25Speaker 3: I mean listen, every game I played growing up, I
- 1:27Speaker 3: called him afterwards, and even I mean he watched my
- 1:30Speaker 3: games and I was playing in San Jose's thing up
- 1:31Speaker 3: to like two in the morning. Yeah, and I'd call
- 1:33Speaker 3: him after every game and I'd get a little bit
- 1:35Speaker 3: of a uh a breakdown of what he did right
- 1:38Speaker 3: and what he did wrong. So and then I always
- 1:40Speaker 3: have my mom in the background being like, you did great,
- 1:43Speaker 3: played like shit, not your game. My dad would just
- 1:46Speaker 3: say you look tired kind of right, A little bit.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Of that true.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Today's Cinophile in sixty is a non to producer. Twel
- 1:55Speaker 1: He just directed a documentary with the Hartford Whaler.
- 1:57Speaker 2: So I watched that. That's gonna be my cno file.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Review This week Love the documentary I watched Why to
- 2:02Speaker 1: interview Toe but more Bully, I talk about my journeys
- 2:05Speaker 1: backron Amazon Prime that has been done now that has
- 2:07Speaker 1: ceased with the regular season over. You just came back
- 2:09Speaker 1: my friend from Portugal. Talk to me about Portugal.
- 2:12Speaker 4: Portugal.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Yeah, we went to Lisbond and we stayed in Aljs
- 2:18Speaker 3: for three four days. We went quickly for with my
- 2:20Speaker 3: dad for his birthday. It's his birthday, was.
- 2:23Speaker 4: It yesterday's seventieth birthday? No? Sixty sixty four?
- 2:27Speaker 2: Oh man, young man.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Man, No, it's not a miletone young We just wanted
- 2:31Speaker 3: to go. We haven't really done a trip would just him,
- 2:34Speaker 3: me and my brother I think, you know, ever growing up,
- 2:36Speaker 3: and we did some little ones, you know, but nothing
- 2:38Speaker 3: overseas like that where it wasn't for me playing hockey like,
- 2:42Speaker 3: you know, because we did a trip in Switzerland and
- 2:44Speaker 3: all that when I was playing though, So this was
- 2:45Speaker 3: us just hanging out.
- 2:47Speaker 4: It was great.
- 2:47Speaker 3: I mean, I didn't expect to love Portugal as much
- 2:49Speaker 3: as I did. The food was absolutely incredible and funny enough.
- 2:53Speaker 3: There's a guy that lives there who my dad coached
- 2:57Speaker 3: growing up, who was my brother's age, so he was,
- 2:59Speaker 3: and he loved my dad as a coach so much
- 3:01Speaker 3: so he took a three hour train when he found
- 3:03Speaker 3: out we were in town. No, he did it and
- 3:05Speaker 3: came and took us around the city for two days.
- 3:07Speaker 3: So we like got went to all these like cool
- 3:10Speaker 3: little niche restaurants and high in spots. We went to Cappadoca,
- 3:14Speaker 3: the most western part of Europe. Beautiful country, beautiful city,
- 3:19Speaker 3: was amazing. Drank a lot of white wine and what
- 3:23Speaker 3: else did we drink? We drink all that we had
- 3:25Speaker 3: drink a lot, so it's good. But it was an
- 3:27Speaker 3: amazing city, amazing time. Loved it and made it back
- 3:30Speaker 3: in time for a New Jersey wedding, Not a New
- 3:32Speaker 3: Jersey wedding, a Bronx wedding. Last night, Wow landed and
- 3:36Speaker 3: went right to a Bronx wedding on the tits.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Well, eventually, hopefully I get out there just to see that.
- 3:40Speaker 1: In the meantime, Loan enjoy some hockey love with everybody else.
- 3:43Speaker 1: So we early impressions the Avalanche and the Stars, you
- 3:46Speaker 1: and I have said, you know, at least on paper,
- 3:47Speaker 1: it feels like it's gonna be the best series. The
- 3:48Speaker 1: opening round, Mackenzie Blackwood coming in the thought was going
- 3:51Speaker 1: to be hey first playoff action of his career. Would
- 3:53Speaker 1: he be able to quit himself? He stops twenty three
- 3:56Speaker 1: of twenty first shots. He looked excellent. For the Avalanche,
- 3:58Speaker 1: McKinnon has always was great, had a three point game.
- 4:00Speaker 1: And for the Stars, they've now lost game one each
- 4:02Speaker 1: of the last eight playoff series going back to twenty
- 4:05Speaker 1: twenty two, so in auspicious sign for them. But the Avalanche,
- 4:08Speaker 1: they did as advertised, took care of business against the Stars.
- 4:12Speaker 3: This is Mackenzie Blackwood's coming out party. This is his
- 4:15Speaker 3: Olympics audition. We will see him as most likely either
- 4:21Speaker 3: the one or two on Team Can in the Olympics
- 4:23Speaker 3: because of what people are gonna finally see and get
- 4:25Speaker 3: to realize. I mean, none the saves he made last game,
- 4:28Speaker 3: Like listen, Colorado twenty four shots, but they give up
- 4:32Speaker 3: Grade eight chances because they're so fast, so fast and
- 4:35Speaker 3: high octane on the transition that they will give up
- 4:38Speaker 3: stuff because they always throw d into the rush and everything.
- 4:40Speaker 3: They'll they'll sell the farm to get a scoring chance.
- 4:43Speaker 3: And I mean he made a save on Mason marchmant
- 4:46Speaker 3: off his hip that was I mean, he scored the
- 4:49Speaker 3: Marchman scores that goal, and it's a different game. I
- 4:52Speaker 3: think it was two to one at that time, and
- 4:53Speaker 3: then they went and scored that dagger. Devon Tave's up
- 4:56Speaker 3: a beautiful pass by Josh Manson. That pass was unbelievable
- 5:00Speaker 3: by the way, Yeah it was a great But what
- 5:02Speaker 3: scares me right now big time is here's the thing
- 5:06Speaker 3: with Dallas. They've now lost eight in a row. Miko
- 5:09Speaker 3: Ranton is nowhere to be seen. Uh, mira Hei skin
- 5:13Speaker 3: In hopefully can come back.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Most critical piece. If you can get him back, it's
- 5:16Speaker 2: a different.
- 5:17Speaker 3: He seems like he's skating. I think he's going to
- 5:19Speaker 3: be back. If they don't get him back, I mean,
- 5:20Speaker 3: I think if he's not back in game two, they'll
- 5:23Speaker 3: be two in the hole. And then it's tough. You're
- 5:25Speaker 3: going to You're going to ball Arena. That Colorado building
- 5:29Speaker 3: is no joke. It's it's gonna be tough to win
- 5:32Speaker 3: in that building. And I think Gave Landeskog will probably
- 5:35Speaker 3: they'll probably play him game three if he gets in
- 5:37Speaker 3: the lineup. That's what I think they do. They play
- 5:39Speaker 3: him at home in game three. I think it's the
- 5:42Speaker 3: best place to play him, but it was a great
- 5:44Speaker 3: I I you cannot if you're watching that. You know
- 5:47Speaker 3: in hockey, you tell people go watch a hockey game.
- 5:50Speaker 3: It's really fast in person and on TV doesn't do
- 5:53Speaker 3: a justice the Colorado Avalanche on TV or as fast
- 5:56Speaker 3: as in person. It is incredible to watch. They are
- 5:59Speaker 3: so fast, They're so quick up ice, the way they
- 6:02Speaker 3: move the puck, they move in sync, it's it's.
- 6:04Speaker 4: A sight to see.
- 6:05Speaker 3: So this team fully loaded with Mackenzie Blackwood. I mean,
- 6:09Speaker 3: this was my picks at the start of the playoffs
- 6:11Speaker 3: to win the Cup. And they looked at and know
- 6:14Speaker 3: no one more than McKinnon, who is a fucking beast.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Last night he.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Looked right out there, as I said, three point outing.
- 6:21Speaker 1: And generally, if I don't have a dog in the race,
- 6:22Speaker 1: I just want as much hockey as possible. So I
- 6:24Speaker 1: hope Dallas bounces back in game two makes it more
- 6:26Speaker 1: of a serious because you're right, if Colorado goes up
- 6:28Speaker 1: towo oh, they're not gonna relink with that lead.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Now.
- 6:30Speaker 1: A very exciting Game one was Blues Jets because the
- 6:32Speaker 1: Jets getting braidlat with respect going in no gavel already
- 6:35Speaker 1: no Nikolai Eelers and the Blues dragging them into the fight.
- 6:38Speaker 1: This is a tight game for much of it. Connor
- 6:40Speaker 1: Hellibuck looked leaky. Three goals in seventeen shots. This is
- 6:43Speaker 1: playoff Helly again, he might win a heart trophy, but Buddy,
- 6:46Speaker 1: you better step up in the second season. Kyle Connor
- 6:48Speaker 1: gets the game winner ninety six seconds left. Felt like
- 6:51Speaker 1: a huge relief JD for the Jets to get this win.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Otherwise it could have been a real problem losing that
- 6:55Speaker 1: game at home.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I think they would if they'd have lost that game,
- 6:58Speaker 3: and you could you could see the ernest effort by
- 7:01Speaker 3: the Blues. Everything was shooting high with traffic on hell
- 7:04Speaker 3: He gets deep in his net, he's back, he gets
- 7:07Speaker 3: a little bit two square, and he doesn't look for
- 7:10Speaker 3: the puck, and he did not look good early. But again,
- 7:12Speaker 3: I think this was more what we didn't see last
- 7:16Speaker 3: year versus this year, is they didn't really have the
- 7:18Speaker 3: team to hold on and hold into a team structure
- 7:21Speaker 3: to kind of bail him out a little bit, bail
- 7:23Speaker 3: out Hellibuck, and I thought they did that game. I mean,
- 7:26Speaker 3: the third period was one of the best periods I've
- 7:28Speaker 3: seen played by a team, and the Jets specifically, this
- 7:31Speaker 3: was their calling card all year. They didn't give up anything,
- 7:34Speaker 3: what two to four shots, They didn't give anything up
- 7:38Speaker 3: to Saint Louis, and they absolutely dominated him. Kyle Connor
- 7:41Speaker 3: specifically was was unbelievable. So I was a little worried
- 7:44Speaker 3: with Nikolai Eilers being out, and you know, I didn't
- 7:48Speaker 3: think I was in Gay Velardi as well. I was
- 7:51Speaker 3: a little nervous, and rightfully so. But listen, Hellibuck made
- 7:54Speaker 3: that save on Jordan Cayrou, which was probably it was
- 7:59Speaker 3: three to two Saint Louis and it was gonna be
- 8:02Speaker 3: probably game over there, and he makes that say so,
- 8:04Speaker 3: he made the same when it counted and he settled in.
- 8:06Speaker 3: But I think from here on out it's probably gonna
- 8:08Speaker 3: be Winnipeg most likely, They're gonna kind of be in
- 8:11Speaker 3: the driver's seat, and they just needed that win big time,
- 8:14Speaker 3: big time.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with you.
- 8:16Speaker 1: You would think that all of a sudden, they go
- 8:17Speaker 1: that kind of gives him a push right now, that
- 8:18Speaker 1: kind of give him a little bit.
- 8:19Speaker 2: That's a relief.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the that's the deep sigh, that's like the
- 8:23Speaker 3: woo Like Okay, here we go and like we can relax.
- 8:26Speaker 3: I bet you, I bet you. Connor, Hellybuck is a
- 8:29Speaker 3: great game. Come game too. I think he's gonna be
- 8:31Speaker 3: really good.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:33Speaker 1: That's where you say to yourself, okay, like all of
- 8:34Speaker 1: a sudden, if he feels pretty good, then then, as
- 8:37Speaker 1: you said, it's relief and you don't play your best
- 8:38Speaker 1: but still.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Get the victory and from there you start to feel
- 8:40Speaker 2: a bit better.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Obviously, a great scene of Winnipeg, by the way, I
- 8:42Speaker 1: mean this, We're gonna be talk without these playff atmospheres
- 8:44Speaker 1: are unbelievable.
- 8:45Speaker 2: I mean the white out there Winnipeg. And I liked
- 8:47Speaker 2: your play.
- 8:47Speaker 1: But deep in the net I was watching He's not
- 8:49Speaker 1: quite Don Granado, but Tony Garnado was an NHL network
- 8:52Speaker 1: today and Tony kept saying, deep in his net that
- 8:54Speaker 1: was the problem with hell about you nailed it?
- 8:56Speaker 3: Not confident and was I breaking down there Kyle Connor goal,
- 9:00Speaker 3: there's set face off play by the.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Winter go ahead, do that's right, jdp I loved it, but.
- 9:03Speaker 3: They I just thought it was a great and it's funny.
- 9:06Speaker 3: I wanted to break it down little jdpov, But they
- 9:10Speaker 3: run this face off play where they send Mark Shiffley.
- 9:12Speaker 3: They only do it on the right side with Schifley's
- 9:15Speaker 3: line and when Josh Morrissey's on the ice. They did
- 9:17Speaker 3: it twice in the second period. We're off the draw,
- 9:20Speaker 3: they'll win it to the right side, so Scheiffer be
- 9:23Speaker 3: in his backhand and he'll win it to usually I
- 9:25Speaker 3: think Morrisey's with Peank, so.
- 9:27Speaker 4: He'll win it to Peank.
- 9:28Speaker 3: And then they go dd D quick and Shiffley just
- 9:31Speaker 3: sprints behind the net and comes out as fast as
- 9:33Speaker 3: he can and he comes so he just tries to
- 9:35Speaker 3: get lost and then Morrissey will find him basically a
- 9:38Speaker 3: low to high to low sorry, and then he either
- 9:41Speaker 3: looks for a one time or to Josh Morrissey or
- 9:44Speaker 3: which he tried and it didn't work. But then on
- 9:46Speaker 3: the second time they ran it, which was the game
- 9:50Speaker 3: tying goal. Was basically Schiffley took it. They kind of
- 9:54Speaker 3: took Morrissey away and he just hit the hole and
- 9:56Speaker 3: he saw Kyle Connor got lost in coverage. It's just
- 9:58Speaker 3: a beautifully set face off. I'm a huge fan of
- 10:01Speaker 3: set face offs, and that's kind of the game within
- 10:03Speaker 3: the game during playoffs, so obviously Saint Louis is going
- 10:06Speaker 3: to adjust to that. So now it's like, how do
- 10:08Speaker 3: they adjust and how does win? How does Winnipeg stay
- 10:11Speaker 3: one step ahead? But it's just an amazing set play
- 10:14Speaker 3: that they ran twice and ends up with a huge
- 10:16Speaker 3: goal for Kyle Connor there, but yeah, Connor.
- 10:20Speaker 4: That's JD's POV.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Bitches love it. Check it out once again on social media, telefriend.
- 10:25Speaker 2: It's all good stuff when it comes to jdpov.
- 10:27Speaker 1: In our previous episode, we provided a preview of Kings, Oilers,
- 10:30Speaker 1: Devil's Hurricanes, Stars, Avalanche, Lightning, Panthers, and Senators May Beliefs.
- 10:34Speaker 1: If you want to revisit our take on those series,
- 10:36Speaker 1: check out that last episode that leaves us with three
- 10:39Speaker 1: series left to previews. So Jets and Blues, it doesn't
- 10:41Speaker 1: feel like a one versus eight, like, you know, the
- 10:43Speaker 1: Jets win the President Trophy at the Blues, we're so
- 10:45Speaker 1: good down the Strets. Jets did take three or four
- 10:47Speaker 1: against Saint Louis this year. Saint Louis had that great
- 10:49Speaker 1: twelve game winning stream. We kind of talked about it
- 10:51Speaker 1: in depth here right now, but it feels like with
- 10:53Speaker 1: Winnipeg winning that first game, you know, Jets are missing
- 10:55Speaker 1: a couple of key pieces I mentioned in Vallardian Eelers
- 10:57Speaker 1: Blues or mid out, Dylan Holloway should be stuggery pretty good.
- 11:00Speaker 2: But now you get that game one feels like Jets
- 11:02Speaker 2: and six.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Yeah, like they'll get some games in. You never know
- 11:06Speaker 3: what's gonna happen in game two. It that's that's a
- 11:08Speaker 3: big pivotal game. And but that Areno was rocking, and
- 11:11Speaker 3: man does Winnipeg show out the fans the original white out.
- 11:14Speaker 3: It's it's cool to see and listen. You know, Saint
- 11:18Speaker 3: Louis is missing a big piece in Dylan Holloway. I
- 11:20Speaker 3: think it's a different series if Holloway's in. Uh, he's
- 11:23Speaker 3: a catalyst for that team. So it's I'm anxious to
- 11:26Speaker 3: see kind of what happens in how this plays out,
- 11:29Speaker 3: but I can't. This is Winnipeg's chance.
- 11:31Speaker 4: They don't win.
- 11:32Speaker 3: It's everything's getting blown up. But I think they seem
- 11:34Speaker 3: more common understanding of what they need to do and
- 11:36Speaker 3: how they need to play. And to your point, Saint
- 11:39Speaker 3: Louis was dirty, they were cheap, they were running him,
- 11:42Speaker 3: and I think it was one of those moments where
- 11:43Speaker 3: last year Winnipeg might have taken their foot off the gas,
- 11:46Speaker 3: but now they brought there's a reason they brought in,
- 11:49Speaker 3: you know, Luke, Shan, Brandon tannef guys like that to
- 11:52Speaker 3: kind of mitigate that and kind of drag the guys
- 11:54Speaker 3: into the fight. And I think they did just that.
- 11:56Speaker 3: It was a dirty game. It was a great hockey
- 11:58Speaker 3: game to watch if you're a hockey fan. It just
- 12:00Speaker 3: was constant after the whistle, Shenanigans and tom foolery and
- 12:04Speaker 3: ballyhoo and a lot of face washes oh so much,
- 12:07Speaker 3: and just I just think it was a good tone
- 12:09Speaker 3: setter and Winnipeg didn't back down, which is huge.
- 12:12Speaker 1: And Tal just pointed as well in our group chat
- 12:14Speaker 1: Luke Shen knocking guys in the rastles all night, the
- 12:16Speaker 1: human eraserse.
- 12:17Speaker 2: He was known for years one of the great hitters
- 12:18Speaker 2: of all time.
- 12:19Speaker 3: Humana Raith Luke Shen loves to eat. Luke Schen loves
- 12:23Speaker 3: to eat, cross him on the pod.
- 12:25Speaker 1: And we have absolutely he's a good buddy a Thomas
- 12:27Speaker 1: Sickies as well. Golden Knight's Wild. Vegas won all three
- 12:30Speaker 1: matchups against the Wild this season, including a five and
- 12:32Speaker 1: win in Minnesota. March twenty fifth. Minnesota's healthy again. They
- 12:35Speaker 1: got Corolla Priest off back, Joel Erickson ech back, both
- 12:38Speaker 1: playing well. But Vegas has been a Legit Cup contender
- 12:41Speaker 1: all season long. I like the Wild stand a chance
- 12:43Speaker 1: against like Vegas is too good. I call Vegas in
- 12:46Speaker 1: five just for fun, and we keep saying six, I'll
- 12:47Speaker 1: say Vegas in five.
- 12:48Speaker 2: What do you got?
- 12:50Speaker 4: I have Vegas winning.
- 12:51Speaker 3: But if there was an upset, I kind of talked
- 12:53Speaker 3: about it the last couple of months, was Minnesota wild
- 12:56Speaker 3: if they would have got the Jets. I think it
- 12:59Speaker 3: was a possibility. But man, no one's really talked about
- 13:02Speaker 3: Vegas much this year and they've just had a ho
- 13:04Speaker 3: hum season again. They win the Pacific, they're healthy now,
- 13:08Speaker 3: and it's a team that's kind of battle tested. So
- 13:12Speaker 3: I think Minnesota is gonna make it a lot harder
- 13:13Speaker 3: than people think you do.
- 13:15Speaker 2: But coming back obviously it's huge.
- 13:18Speaker 4: One hundred percent.
- 13:19Speaker 3: But I think Vegas has the best path to the
- 13:21Speaker 3: finals is definitely them. I have Colorado winning because they
- 13:24Speaker 3: just think they're so good. But I think Vegas has
- 13:26Speaker 3: the best path because you know, I think that you know,
- 13:30Speaker 3: La is really good, and I think they're probably gonna
- 13:32Speaker 3: beat the Oilers, but either way, I think wover comes
- 13:34Speaker 3: out of that probably won't get past uh Vegas. And
- 13:38Speaker 3: but again, listen, they have Zeeve William coming in. I
- 13:41Speaker 3: know a lot of people are like, oh, Kenny young
- 13:42Speaker 3: kid really impact the game as much as all over them.
- 13:45Speaker 3: I think he's going to be like a Kyle mccarr asked,
- 13:48Speaker 3: not that he's Cale mc, but he's going to have
- 13:50Speaker 3: an impact like Cale did when he came into the playoffs.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Like I don't think he's Cale mccarr. I think he's
- 13:55Speaker 3: a great defenseman. Uh and he's I think people are
- 13:58Speaker 3: gonna be really surprised. And they already have a really
- 14:00Speaker 3: stout decoor you know they got when they're healthy. They
- 14:03Speaker 3: got Spurge and Roadine favor a little small, but then
- 14:06Speaker 3: ze Bullyam you had him with Faber. It's a great,
- 14:09Speaker 3: great top four, you know. So I just think it's good.
- 14:13Speaker 3: And then you can have you know, the Jake Middleton's
- 14:15Speaker 3: and the and the Merrills and the and the bogot
- 14:17Speaker 3: You can have those guys the Bogosians down there and
- 14:19Speaker 3: can run around and be physical. So I just you know,
- 14:23Speaker 3: I think it's a team that is gonna give all
- 14:26Speaker 3: that Vegas can handle, but I think Vegas will handle him.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Zee buoyam. Now on the all name team, that's only
- 14:31Speaker 1: top of the fact you include a Vern Fidler. You
- 14:34Speaker 1: had a Vern Fiddler reference racing on an episode that
- 14:37Speaker 1: was in talking about Ray Shiro Fiddler on the roof.
- 14:39Speaker 2: All time great name.
- 14:40Speaker 4: There on the roof.
- 14:43Speaker 2: So it gets to the halves of the Capitals.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Listen, I'd love to you, know ingratiate myself further to
- 14:47Speaker 1: the great people of Montreal and call Ahabs.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Wait first plaif appearance is twenty twenty one, but I
- 14:52Speaker 2: just don't see it now.
- 14:53Speaker 1: I mean the Caps are without starting goaltender Logan Thompson protest,
- 14:56Speaker 1: is it a great year? Is not in the lineup,
- 14:58Speaker 1: So maybe Montreal has what it takes. But you just
- 14:59Speaker 1: said in the previous episode, and watching what we all
- 15:02Speaker 1: kind of limp towards the finish line, you go, hey,
- 15:04Speaker 1: they'll but they're not gonna be able to make any magic.
- 15:06Speaker 1: So I think you're skeptical they can actually pull off
- 15:08Speaker 1: a series.
- 15:09Speaker 3: I have Caps in like five. I think they I
- 15:12Speaker 3: think the Bell I think the Bell Center gets them
- 15:14Speaker 3: a win. I definitely think that, but I think everybody
- 15:17Speaker 3: I think and listen, Marty Sanluis been there, done that.
- 15:20Speaker 3: So they have a good coach to kind of get
- 15:22Speaker 3: their minds reset. But this was one of those things
- 15:24Speaker 3: where no one really expected them to to make the playoffs.
- 15:27Speaker 3: They had this magical run near the end after four
- 15:30Speaker 3: nations to kind of give them that push. But they're
- 15:32Speaker 3: still like a minus twenty goal Differentially, they're they're really
- 15:36Speaker 3: bad defensively. They take a lot of penalties. If their
- 15:40Speaker 3: penalty penalty kill can hold up and Samuel Montinbau can
- 15:43Speaker 3: steal a couple of games. But you know, the only
- 15:45Speaker 3: thing that worries me with Capitals is their goaltending and
- 15:47Speaker 3: can they can those goalies find their form that they
- 15:51Speaker 3: had at the start of the season when they're on
- 15:52Speaker 3: that run and I you know, it's going.
- 15:54Speaker 4: To be interesting to see. Time will tell.
- 15:55Speaker 3: But you know Montreal has that youthful exuberance as we
- 15:59Speaker 3: call it, that they just don't care. They're just going
- 16:01Speaker 3: to go out and play and say, you know, fit.
- 16:05Speaker 2: And young, dumb full of combs that were trying to
- 16:07Speaker 2: tell that's it.
- 16:09Speaker 4: Yes, there he goes, don't you dare cut that tell. Yeah.
- 16:14Speaker 3: But I think Washington, I think they're big physical. I
- 16:17Speaker 3: think they're they're gonna impose the yeah, well, this will
- 16:23Speaker 3: be stunned. I just think they're I think their coaching
- 16:26Speaker 3: staff is too smart too. I think they have a
- 16:28Speaker 3: they have a smart Kirk Muller's there, he knows, he understands,
- 16:31Speaker 3: he's who was with these Canadians guys. I think they're
- 16:33Speaker 3: gonna match up very well. And I think it's it's
- 16:37Speaker 3: just a game where it'll be. It'll be a fun
- 16:40Speaker 3: series to watch. I think it'll be high scoring and
- 16:42Speaker 3: some drama filled moments. But if Washington can say out
- 16:45Speaker 3: of the out of the penalty box, I think Montreal
- 16:48Speaker 3: will be in trouble.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Well by special request, who cares what me and Jason
- 16:51Speaker 1: de Murse think about the Habs and the Capitals. I
- 16:53Speaker 1: wanted a diehard Montreal Canadiens fan. I got who's been
- 16:56Speaker 1: living and dying with us, who's been texting his son?
- 16:58Speaker 1: How about the habs brings right now? The passions be
- 17:03Speaker 1: coming through this podcast. Daryl, Jason's father joining us to
- 17:07Speaker 1: stock cabs. There's no better hockey city than Montreal. There's
- 17:10Speaker 1: no better feeling than Montreal's in the playoffs, breaking this
- 17:12Speaker 1: four year run.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Daryl, it's great to see you. Congratulations. How are you feeling.
- 17:17Speaker 5: I'm so excited. I got tourista last night.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Right out of the gate.
- 17:24Speaker 4: Got the shits.
- 17:26Speaker 5: Oh wow, we can use those words online.
- 17:28Speaker 4: That's great. Yeah, I love it.
- 17:31Speaker 5: I'm fired up, excited.
- 17:32Speaker 6: Uh, it's it's like I think I told Jason over
- 17:36Speaker 6: the last couple of months, since he's not playing, I
- 17:39Speaker 6: don't really.
- 17:40Speaker 5: Watch much hockey, but I'm a huge Diingard Habs fan.
- 17:43Speaker 1: What is that vib like for those who explain what
- 17:45Speaker 1: it's like his house from Montreal? Obviously Jason as well.
- 17:48Speaker 1: But if somebody doesn't know it, I know it's announce there.
- 17:50Speaker 1: You know, I grew up in Kingston, but like being
- 17:52Speaker 1: in Montreal, what's that passionate like for someone who hasn't
- 17:54Speaker 1: experienced it.
- 17:56Speaker 5: I don't think it's anything like anybody's ever seen before.
- 17:59Speaker 6: I was just driving down having breakfast with my with
- 18:02Speaker 6: my wife this morning, and you see lags out of cars,
- 18:05Speaker 6: I mean Canadian flies out of cars. Haven't haven't seen
- 18:09Speaker 6: that in maybe ten years. People in this town are
- 18:16Speaker 6: super excited about the the.
- 18:19Speaker 5: Habs in their season they had.
- 18:21Speaker 6: I think the fact that they just added Demidoff a
- 18:25Speaker 6: week ago, the fact he didn't play much in the
- 18:28Speaker 6: second game, only about nine and a half ten minutes.
- 18:31Speaker 5: Now they're all saying the only reason he played nine
- 18:33Speaker 5: and a half.
- 18:34Speaker 6: Ten minutes, all the conspiracy theorists, it's the fact that
- 18:37Speaker 6: they're going to play him a ton in the first
- 18:40Speaker 6: two games. I this morning in practice, he was on
- 18:45Speaker 6: the first power play line with Cawfield.
- 18:49Speaker 5: Oh yeah, oh yeah.
- 18:51Speaker 6: So you know, there was a lot of people, a
- 18:53Speaker 6: lot of my friends asked me, why did he play
- 18:55Speaker 6: much in that second game?
- 18:56Speaker 5: And I didn't even know. I thought, okay, coach, he's
- 18:59Speaker 5: got to earn his steps.
- 19:01Speaker 6: I don't think it's that. I think they're going to
- 19:02Speaker 6: play him a lot tomorrow night, a lot more. And
- 19:04Speaker 6: people think, and I think.
- 19:05Speaker 3: You got what do you got, Pops? What do you
- 19:08Speaker 3: got Montreal's chances against Washington? How do you think this
- 19:12Speaker 3: series plays out?
- 19:14Speaker 2: Well?
- 19:15Speaker 6: I think the first game is going to be important,
- 19:16Speaker 6: That first five minutes is going to be important. The
- 19:18Speaker 6: fact they're not playing here, uh, it gets I'm a
- 19:22Speaker 6: little concerned about that. I think if we would have
- 19:24Speaker 6: started at in the Bell Provence. Well, I think it
- 19:30Speaker 6: would have been tough for Washington come out and match
- 19:32Speaker 6: that fan energy. So and and as Jason would say,
- 19:38Speaker 6: playing in Washington, it's kind of a weird rink. Even
- 19:41Speaker 6: watching on TV, the lighting is weird, it seemed. I
- 19:44Speaker 6: don't know what it's like live. I've never seen a
- 19:46Speaker 6: game there, but it just looks dull, just a tad
- 19:49Speaker 6: dell for me. So I think if we, if somehow
- 19:53Speaker 6: we can put them asleep and sneak in game one,
- 19:57Speaker 6: I think we win this in six.
- 20:00Speaker 3: I think, wow, talk in the Caps rink unbelievable.
- 20:05Speaker 6: I do really. I just think that they were super tired.
- 20:09Speaker 6: I was nervous the last four games of the year,
- 20:12Speaker 6: being out shot, absolutely annihilated on the shot clock. I
- 20:17Speaker 6: just think the kids got tired, just really tired. Hudson
- 20:21Speaker 6: was tired. But I saw I was watching uh stippets
- 20:24Speaker 6: of the practice this morning, and I'm telling you, they
- 20:28Speaker 6: were flying. And if Silkowski decides he wants to play
- 20:32Speaker 6: tomorrow night, he wants to bang some guys around. My
- 20:35Speaker 6: concern with Jane and I talked about it last week.
- 20:38Speaker 6: It's the Wilson factor. It's the Vshkan factor. If they
- 20:41Speaker 6: if they're banging tomorrow night on that d, I think
- 20:45Speaker 6: we're in trouble.
- 20:46Speaker 2: When's the last week were this excited about a rookie
- 20:48Speaker 2: in latee Hudson.
- 20:50Speaker 5: Man, I'm telling you, I don't even it.
- 20:52Speaker 4: Was the last time that yeah, because.
- 20:55Speaker 6: Yeah, I was gonna say Steffan. I think Stefan riche
- 20:58Speaker 6: was probably I couldn't believe it, like when he was
- 21:01Speaker 6: playing and how hard that shot was and Hudson. But
- 21:06Speaker 6: then I watched, you know, Demodoff. I couldn't believe his start,
- 21:11Speaker 6: his first three shifts. He was doing stuff in practice
- 21:15Speaker 6: this morning, like watching some of the plays. He goes
- 21:18Speaker 6: around defensemen like they're nothing. Now it's practice, doesn't mean anything.
- 21:22Speaker 2: But still your son buried him for his lack of backchecking.
- 21:26Speaker 4: Well that third goal on that Yeah, he's right, No,
- 21:29Speaker 4: he's right, he's right.
- 21:30Speaker 6: But I think when you're superstar level. I've set the
- 21:33Speaker 6: jay a million times. There's two NHLs. There's the A
- 21:36Speaker 6: Division and the B Division, So A players can pretty
- 21:41Speaker 6: much get away with anything. B players can't. And I
- 21:46Speaker 6: think Demodoff is an A player that was bad what
- 21:49Speaker 6: he did, But you got to take. He's coming back
- 21:51Speaker 6: on jet lag.
- 21:53Speaker 5: I heard his.
- 21:55Speaker 6: You know how long it took him to get back.
- 21:57Speaker 6: It took him two days of flying from Turkey. So
- 22:01Speaker 6: I don't know, I can't wait. I'm fired up.
- 22:05Speaker 5: I'm so fired up. I don't know what else to say.
- 22:08Speaker 6: Like I said, I got tourista yesterday, and I think
- 22:10Speaker 6: it was all due to the Canadians.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Well, honestly, Darryl, I love the fact you're so passionate.
- 22:15Speaker 1: I did not realize you were so involved in Jason's
- 22:18Speaker 1: career as a coach, so clearly you o kudos from
- 22:20Speaker 1: anybody who's a fan of Jason Burs not only forty
- 22:22Speaker 1: he did as a player, but as a person. Obviously
- 22:23Speaker 1: loved the fact you're listening to pod and most importantly,
- 22:26Speaker 1: go Habs Go. Thank you for the time. We'll have
- 22:27Speaker 1: you back again with the Habs upset the capitals.
- 22:29Speaker 5: In six beautiful. Thank you very much.
- 22:32Speaker 1: All right, keep it eye with my cousin San Lazarre
- 22:34Speaker 1: as well. It's Darld Demers. Lots of more coming up
- 22:35Speaker 1: here in NHL and scripted after this. Our next guest, celebrator, broadcaster,
- 22:52Speaker 1: and reporter who has covered the NHL from every angle.
- 22:55Speaker 1: She can currently be seen on TNT covering the NHL.
- 22:58Speaker 1: She is also front and center covering WWE and coming
- 23:01Speaker 1: to us from WrestleMania. Of course, she's a dear friend
- 23:03Speaker 1: of me and Jay's from her time at H Network,
- 23:05Speaker 1: and I dearly miss the fact. Nothing better than being
- 23:07Speaker 1: at the gym pretending to work out while gossiping with
- 23:09Speaker 1: my friend Jackie Redmand who joins us now.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Jackie, it is great to see you and prove of
- 23:13Speaker 2: what a good person you are.
- 23:14Speaker 1: You're joining us in the midst of the day wrestlingia
- 23:16Speaker 1: the biggest sports medical world.
- 23:17Speaker 2: That you're giving us twenty minutes. You're amazing.
- 23:19Speaker 7: You know why, because I got nothing but love for
- 23:21Speaker 7: you guys, and I love that. I love the intro
- 23:23Speaker 7: because not a not a second of that was fabricated.
- 23:27Speaker 7: Like if I was working out at the NHL Network
- 23:29Speaker 7: gym and I saw a v stroll in, I just
- 23:32Speaker 7: start taking the pods out now because we're having a
- 23:34Speaker 7: forty five minute conversation, like forget the pump, it's over,
- 23:39Speaker 7: it's no longer happening. We are gonna shoot the shit,
- 23:42Speaker 7: as they say, and share some tea with each other.
- 23:47Speaker 1: The best would be like you'd like one more thing
- 23:48Speaker 1: that I gotta pump some iroy and then the one
- 23:50Speaker 1: five more things?
- 23:51Speaker 2: Were you?
- 23:52Speaker 4: Now?
- 23:52Speaker 8: For shoot?
- 23:53Speaker 5: Were you?
- 23:53Speaker 4: It was adding in a suit when he was going there?
- 23:56Speaker 7: Never never, it was casual admin, casual admin.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Uh, listen, we're gonna get to hockey if I want to
- 24:02Speaker 1: start with wrestling because we're talking about listen, see him Punk, unbelievable.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I watched the video that wtweeted out.
- 24:08Speaker 1: I mean it is tough, Jack when a situation like that,
- 24:11Speaker 1: God bless you. You just you went there, but you
- 24:13Speaker 1: looked at me borderline betterfied asking what happened?
- 24:17Speaker 7: Well, you know what, you know what it is is
- 24:19Speaker 7: and you know this av like c M. Punk is
- 24:22Speaker 7: such a huge hockey fan, and I've known him for years,
- 24:25Speaker 7: years before I worked for WWE through hockey because he's
- 24:28Speaker 7: such a legitimate fan of the sport, and so I
- 24:32Speaker 7: knew when he was coming out of gorilla as we
- 24:34Speaker 7: call it in this world, I'm like, this guy is
- 24:37Speaker 7: going to be so dejected from what has happened, Like
- 24:40Speaker 7: he is, I knew what this night meant to him
- 24:42Speaker 7: to finally main event Mania. But of course, because I
- 24:45Speaker 7: have such a great friendship with him. They were like,
- 24:48Speaker 7: you have to be the one to go ask him, like,
- 24:49Speaker 7: if he's going to stop for for someone, No, big dal,
- 24:51Speaker 7: I am sort of punk. My entires right here. But
- 24:53Speaker 7: if he's going to stop for someone, it's going to
- 24:55Speaker 7: be you. And he did stop. But anyone that's been
- 24:59Speaker 7: around Punk, No, he's never short of words. Like the
- 25:01Speaker 7: man loves to talk and say what he thinks. And
- 25:04Speaker 7: he just had nothing to say. And I just in
- 25:07Speaker 7: that moment, I'm just looking in Phil's eyes and I'm
- 25:10Speaker 7: just like he this man is lost for words right now.
- 25:14Speaker 7: It was. I haven't watched it back to see what
- 25:16Speaker 7: I look like, but apparently I look like a deer
- 25:18Speaker 7: in headlights. Just I'm not sure what was gonna happen,
- 25:22Speaker 7: But yeah, I still can't believe that he was betrayed
- 25:27Speaker 7: to the level that he was. I mean, you can
- 25:29Speaker 7: never trust anyone in this business, and certainly not Paul
- 25:32Speaker 7: Hayman of.
- 25:33Speaker 4: All people the Double.
- 25:36Speaker 7: Cross, but like the Double Cross, and to end up
- 25:41Speaker 7: standing next to a man in seth Rawlins, who has
- 25:45Speaker 7: been more vocal than anyone since Sampunk returned about his
- 25:49Speaker 7: displeasure him and Drew McIntyre probably the top two. To
- 25:53Speaker 7: be betrayed is one thing to be betrayed and then
- 25:55Speaker 7: watch that person join forces with your arch nemesis.
- 26:00Speaker 9: Even worse, even worse, Oh my god, it would be
- 26:05Speaker 9: like it would be like Sidney Crosby leaving the Penguins
- 26:09Speaker 9: and playing for the effing Capitals, Like the Pensmans would
- 26:12Speaker 9: just be.
- 26:13Speaker 7: Like, what are we doing? You can't go there?
- 26:18Speaker 4: Can't.
- 26:19Speaker 3: I mean, how how was it backstage after you? I
- 26:22Speaker 3: know you talked about cmpunk, but like, just how was
- 26:24Speaker 3: everybody the vibes and even going in today? Because that
- 26:28Speaker 3: was just cataclysmic what Paul Hayman did last night.
- 26:32Speaker 7: I mean it was a lot of people were similar
- 26:35Speaker 7: to Punk in the sense that they just it was
- 26:37Speaker 7: just jaws on the floor. Can't believe what we just witnessed?
- 26:41Speaker 7: And what does it mean?
- 26:42Speaker 2: Right?
- 26:43Speaker 7: Like, I think everyone is wondering what this means? A
- 26:46Speaker 7: Seth rawlins Paul Haman alliance? Where does that go? What
- 26:51Speaker 7: is that? It is disgusting. I was just starting to
- 26:54Speaker 7: like Seth. Me and Seth had some good banter, and
- 26:56Speaker 7: now I'm like, oh, now now I don't like you
- 26:59Speaker 7: anymore because you're not a good human.
- 27:04Speaker 1: How about the Hall of Fame ceremony yesterday started in
- 27:07Speaker 1: like one Eastern and at like two am Pacific.
- 27:10Speaker 7: The Hall of Fame Ceremony. I learned in my rookie
- 27:13Speaker 7: year here that you can't speaking of trust, you can't
- 27:17Speaker 7: trust what anyone says about the run time of the
- 27:20Speaker 7: Hall of Fame ceremony because you gotta take me over,
- 27:23Speaker 7: like we're going over. It's just a matter of how
- 27:26Speaker 7: over are we going? Yeah, I'm not gonna lie. I
- 27:30Speaker 7: did the Red Carpet Show, and I probably shouldn't admit this,
- 27:33Speaker 7: but I will because who cares. I watched the ceremony
- 27:36Speaker 7: from the hotel I wastel Listen, Love, I Love, love you,
- 27:42Speaker 7: Hunter Love everybody to got inducted a huge honor. I
- 27:47Speaker 7: don't think my presence was missed. And I had a
- 27:49Speaker 7: big show. I had a big show the next day,
- 27:51Speaker 7: so I was like, I gotta get my z's you
- 27:53Speaker 7: know the same thing. No, Byron, Byron. Byron's a good
- 27:58Speaker 7: company man, he says, for the whole thing. He's a
- 28:03Speaker 7: good company man. And I, on the other hand, you know,
- 28:05Speaker 7: every once in a while, I make the selfish choice.
- 28:09Speaker 4: It's the smart, the smart Jackie.
- 28:13Speaker 3: I want to ask you like you've been doing you know,
- 28:15Speaker 3: live TV for a long time now, and you know,
- 28:19Speaker 3: things happen, like you just mentioned off script things, things
- 28:22Speaker 3: that you have to adapt to on the fly. Do
- 28:23Speaker 3: you have any moment that stands out where something was
- 28:26Speaker 3: so unpredictable that you just kind of were so stunned
- 28:29Speaker 3: but had to adapt.
- 28:31Speaker 7: I would say one of the more shocking ones. And
- 28:34Speaker 7: there's there's a section of the of the WWE fans
- 28:37Speaker 7: that won't even believe this, but it's the truth. And
- 28:39Speaker 7: it was the WrestleMania kickoff show. A couple of years ago.
- 28:43Speaker 7: We did a big event, in a big press event
- 28:45Speaker 7: in Las Vegas, and it was it was the one
- 28:49Speaker 7: where Rock came out and had the whole bloodline tree
- 28:52Speaker 7: and Cody was there and the infamous slap that happened
- 28:55Speaker 7: on stage, all that goodness.
- 28:57Speaker 4: And.
- 28:59Speaker 7: I halfway through the show, I'm told, hey, we want
- 29:02Speaker 7: you to interview Triple H at the end of this event,
- 29:05Speaker 7: just about what's happened at the event, and if anything
- 29:08Speaker 7: happens at the end, just his reaction. But that's it.
- 29:11Speaker 7: It's just gonna be a very straightforward, you know button
- 29:15Speaker 7: on the evening and then of course, the slap happens,
- 29:18Speaker 7: and now I know, okay, well there's something juicy to
- 29:19Speaker 7: talk about. But still it's just gonna be you and
- 29:22Speaker 7: Hunter backstage. And so when the Rock rolls up and
- 29:27Speaker 7: starts dropping f bombs, yelling at Triple H two guys
- 29:31Speaker 7: who in the attitude era, like like preteen Jackie is
- 29:34Speaker 7: like watching them in feuds and stuff, and I'm like,
- 29:37Speaker 7: are we are we running it back right now? Like
- 29:40Speaker 7: are troopleated? And the Rock about to throw down and
- 29:43Speaker 7: the Rock is swearing and we're on live television, Like
- 29:45Speaker 7: my like truly jaw like hit the floor. I was
- 29:49Speaker 7: just like you said the bad word on the TV,
- 29:52Speaker 7: like what is happening? Like? That was a truly unexpected
- 29:56Speaker 7: one And adapting that moment, I mean, I don't know
- 29:59Speaker 7: if I adapted well. I just held the mic out
- 30:01Speaker 7: and tried to capture whatever was happening. I didn't say anything,
- 30:05Speaker 7: you know, like Roman showed up next, and I just
- 30:08Speaker 7: kind of tried to make sure I captured the moment.
- 30:10Speaker 7: But that was certainly one. I'm trying to think of
- 30:13Speaker 7: a hockey one that's happened to me.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Well that deals with hockey.
- 30:18Speaker 1: I was gonna say you know, you do such a
- 30:20Speaker 1: great job on Turner and being with an exact no,
- 30:22Speaker 1: it's absolutely true. And I was talking to Andy Bachillo
- 30:24Speaker 1: about this, and Andy knows, like when you're a reporter
- 30:26Speaker 1: in the game, it is very challenging. You only get
- 30:28Speaker 1: a few hits per game. You're bugging the producer trying
- 30:30Speaker 1: to jump in. Maybe there's two in the booth, maybe
- 30:32Speaker 1: there's a ring CT reporter as well, Like.
- 30:33Speaker 2: It's very hard to get.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Yeah, but I find it's always, you know, critically, you go, okay,
- 30:36Speaker 1: maybe I can get three or four hits and let
- 30:38Speaker 1: me give you some information, something that's interesting, something I
- 30:40Speaker 1: got from morning Skate, and then of course the interviews
- 30:41Speaker 1: of the coaches, which.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Leads me to this.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Having done last year, you do start to develop a
- 30:46Speaker 1: rapport with certain coaches.
- 30:47Speaker 2: And I find you the same as me.
- 30:48Speaker 1: I know you're Leaves fan, but you end up rooting
- 30:50Speaker 1: for people rather than teams R because.
- 30:52Speaker 7: You hate totally.
- 30:52Speaker 1: To me, that's a great story, et cetera. So with
- 30:54Speaker 1: that being said, I found this show. I mean rooting
- 30:56Speaker 1: for the Flames. I like Ryan Huska so much, or
- 30:58Speaker 1: I root for the LEAs because Craig Ruby was good.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Who is the coach that you were particularly fond of?
- 31:02Speaker 1: And if you want to answer it, a coach that
- 31:03Speaker 1: was a little great Popovich.
- 31:05Speaker 7: Ask, okay, so I'll start with the first one. And
- 31:11Speaker 7: he has since won a Cup. But you know I
- 31:13Speaker 7: covered the Panthers on their first run to the Cup final,
- 31:17Speaker 7: and you know, Paul Maurice was so good to me,
- 31:20Speaker 7: like an absolute pleasure, gave me so much time, not
- 31:24Speaker 7: just like what people don't understand, and to part of
- 31:26Speaker 7: what you were talking about, Adnan, is the prep work
- 31:29Speaker 7: for everyone on a broadcast, but for us, you know,
- 31:31Speaker 7: ringside reporter. I put together like fifteen twenty ideas before
- 31:37Speaker 7: the game, knowing that I might get one or two
- 31:40Speaker 7: in and then if the game completely dictates something else,
- 31:42Speaker 7: I'm trying to think of stuff during the game that
- 31:44Speaker 7: I can do, right, I'm like scouring the internet looking
- 31:47Speaker 7: at stats, you know, figuring out what I can pitch.
- 31:50Speaker 7: And so the meetings that we have with the coaches
- 31:52Speaker 7: on game days are so crucial to what I do.
- 31:55Speaker 7: Like if I have a nugget or a stat on
- 31:58Speaker 7: a line or a player, if I can get some
- 32:00Speaker 7: insight from the coach on that very thing, or the
- 32:03Speaker 7: power play or whatever. It makes what I'm saying more
- 32:06Speaker 7: credible the point that I'm trying to make in the report.
- 32:08Speaker 7: And Paul Maurice, you know, his son has been involved
- 32:12Speaker 7: in the media a little bit, and I think because
- 32:13Speaker 7: of that, he has a newfound respect for what we do.
- 32:16Speaker 7: You know, he told me multiple times during that run,
- 32:19Speaker 7: anything you need, let me know, any question you have, like,
- 32:22Speaker 7: because you know how it is like the media scrumbs there,
- 32:26Speaker 7: you got all the big wigs are there, and like,
- 32:28Speaker 7: you know, I feel like I'm just I'm just a
- 32:30Speaker 7: ringside reporter. I'm relatively new at this particular thing. Like
- 32:34Speaker 7: I'm not asking the first question, and sometimes there's twenty
- 32:37Speaker 7: questions asked, and I'm like, oh, it's okay, Like if
- 32:39Speaker 7: you don't have time, like I'll hit your next game.
- 32:41Speaker 7: And he really made an effort to be like, no,
- 32:43Speaker 7: what do you need. I know I've already been talking
- 32:45Speaker 7: to the media for twenty minutes, but like, whatever you need,
- 32:48Speaker 7: like let me help you out, like you know. And
- 32:51Speaker 7: and so I have a huge amount of respect for
- 32:54Speaker 7: Paul just in his you know, things that he has
- 32:57Speaker 7: done for me in the time that he's made and
- 32:59Speaker 7: so when he won the Cup. I was very very
- 33:02Speaker 7: happy for him. I shot him a text thanked him
- 33:04Speaker 7: for everything, and he once told me, you know, he
- 33:06Speaker 7: remembers being a brand new coach in the league and
- 33:08Speaker 7: not always being given time by people or taken seriously,
- 33:12Speaker 7: and so he really makes an effort to make sure
- 33:14Speaker 7: people feel like they can do their job. And so
- 33:18Speaker 7: that's one person that I really really wanted to see
- 33:20Speaker 7: when and he did, and so I'm so I'm forever
- 33:23Speaker 7: happy for him. Plus he's just fun. I mean the
- 33:26Speaker 7: number of like one liners this guy will give you
- 33:28Speaker 7: mid game too, and you're just like it's the middle
- 33:30Speaker 7: of the game and you're like joking around. I got
- 33:33Speaker 7: a playoff game, no less. So he's great. And then
- 33:36Speaker 7: the other one, like no one's ever been like rude
- 33:41Speaker 7: or like or anything like that. But there's a couple
- 33:45Speaker 7: people where I'm a little bit more nervous, Like I
- 33:50Speaker 7: don't know what it is about Dean Ebison, but like
- 33:56Speaker 7: the first time, the first time I had to do
- 33:59Speaker 7: like an on the bench interview with him, and we
- 34:01Speaker 7: didn't hadn't really crossed paths that much, we didn't know
- 34:04Speaker 7: each other that well.
- 34:05Speaker 4: Like I was.
- 34:06Speaker 7: Legitimately shaken in my boot. So I was like, don't
- 34:09Speaker 7: ask something stupid. Redmand like, don't let this guy bury
- 34:13Speaker 7: you on team. I was so afraid. And it went fine,
- 34:16Speaker 7: but and he was he was totally fine, but I
- 34:19Speaker 7: remember being very intimidated by him.
- 34:22Speaker 4: Is there ah?
- 34:23Speaker 3: You know you tak Paul Maurice is probably your best
- 34:26Speaker 3: coach interview, but do you have a player in the
- 34:28Speaker 3: league right now? That's like, I know Seth Jarvis is
- 34:30Speaker 3: the talk of the town in terms of handed answers,
- 34:34Speaker 3: but anybody that sticks out to you, You're like, Okay,
- 34:36Speaker 3: this is gonna be a good interview. I'm kind of
- 34:38Speaker 3: in the clear and not having to, you know, pull
- 34:41Speaker 3: through some of these guys.
- 34:43Speaker 7: I mean, I think there's a few guys that that
- 34:45Speaker 7: are pretty good. I mean, I know he's retiring now,
- 34:48Speaker 7: but Pat Maroon was always amazing on all those runs
- 34:52Speaker 7: to the Cup finals. He was always great. Brad mar
- 34:55Speaker 7: Shan is always like I always know it's going to
- 34:57Speaker 7: be easy work with him. Even when he is serious
- 35:00Speaker 7: and maybe he's not joking around, it's like he understands
- 35:03Speaker 7: the assignment. Like he's not giving you some like cliche
- 35:08Speaker 7: answer that's not even he's not even thinking about your question.
- 35:11Speaker 7: Like to me, you don't always have to be like
- 35:13Speaker 7: fun and like mister personality. But if you just actually
- 35:16Speaker 7: listen to the question and give me like an engaged
- 35:19Speaker 7: response to me, that's worth just as much as a
- 35:21Speaker 7: guy like telling a joke or whatever. So Brad, Brad's
- 35:25Speaker 7: always been good. Steven Stamcos is always amazing. He's actually
- 35:30Speaker 7: he's got a great personality too. Then I'm not sure
- 35:32Speaker 7: that the league has tapped into as full as they could.
- 35:36Speaker 7: You know, whose personality I would love to see more
- 35:39Speaker 7: that you don't see in media, but that actually is
- 35:42Speaker 7: is awesome. Lean Drysidel like he gets a little he
- 35:46Speaker 7: gets a little curmudgeony, like he's a little bit of
- 35:49Speaker 7: a grump when it comes to the media. Hopefully he
- 35:51Speaker 7: won't hate me saying that if he ever sees this.
- 35:53Speaker 7: But like when the cameras aren't on and he's just
- 35:56Speaker 7: in the rink or at practice, or like you run
- 35:58Speaker 7: into him at the lobby at the whole like he's great,
- 36:02Speaker 7: He's got so much person he's so funny. So I
- 36:05Speaker 7: wish we could get that out there a little bit more.
- 36:08Speaker 2: His teammate Conor mc David not nearly his upbeat. I
- 36:10Speaker 2: AI interviewing Jackie.
- 36:12Speaker 4: They're both dry though they're both dry.
- 36:15Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, yeah, player, I want to ask.
- 36:23Speaker 1: You about the Jackie Rebmind Show on the NHL's YouTube.
- 36:26Speaker 1: This is awesome because I remember one of those conversations
- 36:28Speaker 1: in the gym we would have is you were reluctant
- 36:30Speaker 1: to leave NHL Network because the fact you are opinion
- 36:32Speaker 1: it and it's been great what you've done. Yes, you know,
- 36:34Speaker 1: there's so many hosts who are not We're naturally deferential,
- 36:37Speaker 1: past first point cards, all the rest of it. But
- 36:39Speaker 1: you're like, no, I watch hockey, I haven't opinion, I
- 36:41Speaker 1: have stuff to say. So I thought one thing you
- 36:43Speaker 1: were worried about leaving NHL networking, go, if I'm on
- 36:45Speaker 1: turno oid doing these quick hits, I won't give a
- 36:46Speaker 1: chance to have that voice.
- 36:48Speaker 2: How Yeah, to have this point now with the Jackie
- 36:50Speaker 2: Rebmind Show.
- 36:51Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, it's so funny. And by the way,
- 36:53Speaker 7: like credit to the to the NHL Network and all
- 36:55Speaker 7: of you guys working there to like allow me to
- 36:58Speaker 7: have the space to feel comfortable to be a part
- 37:00Speaker 7: of the conversation, because like the truth is that's not
- 37:03Speaker 7: always the case right like that, it's just like that's facts.
- 37:06Speaker 7: But everyone, like both of you, everyone that EJ. Raddick obviously,
- 37:11Speaker 7: Mike rought, Mike Johnson, like all of you guys were
- 37:14Speaker 7: so good about it. Because it's one thing for like
- 37:17Speaker 7: producers to say, hey, Jackie's gonna like have an opinion
- 37:20Speaker 7: on this one, but for the talent to also be like, yeah,
- 37:22Speaker 7: we're cool with that, or like hey, no, your role
- 37:24Speaker 7: you're a host, you know, it is really nice. So
- 37:27Speaker 7: that was always something that I'll always make sure I
- 37:30Speaker 7: say about the network and you guys there as well.
- 37:33Speaker 7: And then in terms of like I still do miss
- 37:35Speaker 7: the network because you know, two hours four to six
- 37:38Speaker 7: heading til now, like that was a lot of that
- 37:40Speaker 7: was a lot of.
- 37:41Speaker 2: Lee sh a V.
- 37:42Speaker 7: Like I could just go off. I don't quite have
- 37:45Speaker 7: that with the Jackie Redman Show. We've kind of made
- 37:48Speaker 7: it a little bit more into sort of an interview
- 37:51Speaker 7: special if you will, but it does give me a
- 37:54Speaker 7: little bit of that as well. And so I still
- 37:57Speaker 7: miss I still miss the network days though I got
- 38:00Speaker 7: to come back there more.
- 38:01Speaker 4: Jackie.
- 38:02Speaker 3: You know, you go from winning to let drafted to
- 38:04Speaker 3: all these things you're doing now and you work so
- 38:06Speaker 3: hard in this industry, But was there ever a moment,
- 38:08Speaker 3: because no one's paths really linear in this industry, is
- 38:12Speaker 3: there a moment that kind of tested your resilience and
- 38:15Speaker 3: and you were kind of like, uh, is this gonna happen?
- 38:18Speaker 3: Am I going to get to this level that you're
- 38:20Speaker 3: at now?
- 38:21Speaker 7: Yeah? One hundred percent. And that happened when I was
- 38:24Speaker 7: still living and working in Toronto, right. I was working
- 38:27Speaker 7: at sports Net shout out the Score where I got
- 38:29Speaker 7: my start av NOS and so, you know, I was
- 38:34Speaker 7: working in Toronto at sports Net, and you know, I
- 38:36Speaker 7: was doing well for myself. I was doing a lot
- 38:37Speaker 7: of things. I was hosting countdown shows. I was doing
- 38:41Speaker 7: sports at Central, which is like you know, the Canadian
- 38:44Speaker 7: version of Sports Center Highlight Show on the weekends, and
- 38:47Speaker 7: like things were good, but hockey was always what I wanted,
- 38:50Speaker 7: Like that was my dream and I was trying to
- 38:53Speaker 7: sort of break in there at sports Net for a
- 38:56Speaker 7: long time, and I did you know, I did some
- 38:57Speaker 7: American Hockey League games. I did some Canadian college hockey
- 39:01Speaker 7: games listen. I had a great time doing that. Like
- 39:05Speaker 7: I went out east to cover like the CIS Championships
- 39:08Speaker 7: college hockey had an absolute blast, partied with all the
- 39:12Speaker 7: guys after, like it was amazing. Those are my younger years.
- 39:15Speaker 7: But you know, I really wanted to cover the NHL,
- 39:18Speaker 7: and I got to a point at sports Net where
- 39:21Speaker 7: I just felt like I wasn't going to be given
- 39:24Speaker 7: that particular shot. They did a lot for me, they
- 39:26Speaker 7: get you know, Greg Santoni gave me so much opportunity
- 39:28Speaker 7: to do so many other things. So I don't want
- 39:30Speaker 7: it to come off like they didn't see it in me.
- 39:33Speaker 7: But it's hard, right. Hockey is like the golden ticket
- 39:35Speaker 7: in Canada, and there's not really unless someone leaves, there's
- 39:39Speaker 7: no new spot, you know what I mean. It's like shah, yes,
- 39:43Speaker 7: as they should, as they should. And so it was
- 39:46Speaker 7: one of those things where, you know, when I had
- 39:48Speaker 7: the opportunity to go to NHL Network, I was afraid
- 39:52Speaker 7: because I was doing well at sports Net and I
- 39:55Speaker 7: had success, and I knew I had people there that
- 39:56Speaker 7: believed in me. But I really wanted hockey. And anytime that,
- 40:00Speaker 7: you you know, move your life and you go do
- 40:02Speaker 7: this show, you have no idea if you're going to
- 40:05Speaker 7: be good at it, right, Like I had not hosted
- 40:06Speaker 7: a two hour live talk show in my life, and
- 40:09Speaker 7: I was going to go do it, and I remember
- 40:11Speaker 7: asking my dad like, I don't know, maybe I should
- 40:13Speaker 7: stay here, stay in Toronto. I'm doing well, like I
- 40:16Speaker 7: don't know what this road is or if I'll be
- 40:19Speaker 7: good at it or what the actual show is. And
- 40:22Speaker 7: you know, I'll never forget my dad just saying to
- 40:24Speaker 7: be like, listen, if you and you know to be fair.
- 40:29Speaker 7: During my time in Toronto, someone once told me that
- 40:31Speaker 7: I didn't stay in the box enough to cover the NHL,
- 40:35Speaker 7: that I was a little too lucy Gussie. We've come
- 40:38Speaker 7: a long way in like fifteen years with like personalities
- 40:41Speaker 7: and like the Paul Bissonettes of the world, but back
- 40:44Speaker 7: then it was like, listen, you got to stay in
- 40:46Speaker 7: your lane, you got to stay in the box, and
- 40:48Speaker 7: you don't really do that. And so I just felt
- 40:52Speaker 7: like I wasn't going to break through that and I
- 40:54Speaker 7: didn't know what to do. And I remember my dad
- 40:56Speaker 7: telling me, well, listen, you can start staying in the
- 40:59Speaker 7: box and not being yourself and maybe you'll get some
- 41:02Speaker 7: success eventually years down the road, but you could also
- 41:06Speaker 7: wake up two years from now and being your exact same. Yeah,
- 41:16Speaker 7: can you guys still hear me.
- 41:18Speaker 10: Yeah, So anyways to wrap that up inside along with
- 41:23Speaker 10: an answer, is that orror you can't said on yourself,
- 41:27Speaker 10: go Nytel, that work, that's screw.
- 41:29Speaker 7: That you belong in the hops world. And if it
- 41:32Speaker 7: doesn't work.
- 41:33Speaker 11: Out, at least you know you went down swaying like
- 41:35Speaker 11: you went for it. You didn't like to play scared,
- 41:38Speaker 11: and so I said, you know what, I can't play
- 41:40Speaker 11: scared in life. So I'm going to go do this
- 41:43Speaker 11: show and I'm either gonna stink or I'm gonna swim.
- 41:46Speaker 11: And luckily, you know I had water wings up start,
- 41:49Speaker 11: and then.
- 41:50Speaker 2: I made it.
- 41:50Speaker 7: I'm able to swim.
- 41:52Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, last question round up by the music.
- 42:03Speaker 1: You're beloved me beliefs Jackie. If ever there's a ton
- 42:05Speaker 1: the Leaves are gonna go deep, it's this they get
- 42:07Speaker 1: to avoid the Panthers and Lightning. They win the Division
- 42:09Speaker 1: Battle Ontario first round. How are you feeling about the buds?
- 42:12Speaker 7: You know, you know who you know who would be
- 42:15Speaker 7: cheered up immediately if the Leafs lost Game one today?
- 42:19Speaker 7: See him punk like I would not hear the end
- 42:21Speaker 7: of it. Aside from being aside from being able to
- 42:28Speaker 7: beat up Paul Hayman. Nothing would nothing would make see
- 42:34Speaker 7: them punk happier than the Toronto may Police losing today.
- 42:38Speaker 7: So he could just blow me up like he would
- 42:41Speaker 7: just love that. He would love it. Let's hope that
- 42:45Speaker 7: doesn't happen him and with it the spectacular brought him
- 42:49Speaker 7: back around, brought it back around.
- 42:51Speaker 2: That's a real host. You can catch that. Cant all
- 42:53Speaker 2: playoff go ahead.
- 42:55Speaker 7: One last thing I'm gonna say, if I don't see
- 42:57Speaker 7: the sends, ride in the bike right after the game
- 43:00Speaker 7: doing the postgame like like Elf back in the day,
- 43:04Speaker 7: Like you're not missed opportunity, like you need Brady and Chuck.
- 43:08Speaker 7: You need to be on the bike doing your post game.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Could score post game.
- 43:13Speaker 7: He just.
- 43:15Speaker 2: Wade interviews.
- 43:20Speaker 7: It's so good.
- 43:21Speaker 1: Amazing cat you can catch on w W at Wrestle Media.
- 43:25Speaker 2: Phenomenal job. We love and miss your NHL network. This
- 43:27Speaker 2: is awesome. Jack. You're the just celebrated birthday, by the way,
- 43:29Speaker 2: so happy thirty three. We'll talk to you.
- 43:31Speaker 7: Yay, Yes, Amy, love you guys, Thanks for having me on.
- 43:35Speaker 7: Miss you both and I love seeing that you guys
- 43:37Speaker 7: both continue to crush. So enjoy the playoffs.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Apologies but honestly stop on the sixties.
- 43:50Speaker 1: Waned a little bit post to Oscars, but I got
- 43:52Speaker 1: more than a few DMSPO want to know more about
- 43:53Speaker 1: Magazine Dreams, So I gotta read a couple of quick
- 43:55Speaker 1: blurbs here about the movie, and I'm gonna get the
- 43:57Speaker 1: Twels movie, which he directed, because our producer is also director.
- 43:59Speaker 1: But this was from Carlos Agiir of the Rap What
- 44:02Speaker 1: Majors does the writer director Elijah bud his Magazine Dreams
- 44:05Speaker 1: is Killian Maddocks, an alarmingly single minded bodybuilder stirring straight
- 44:09Speaker 1: into the abyss of his own despair. Is the kind
- 44:11Speaker 1: of earth shattering showcase that turns an actor into a legend.
- 44:14Speaker 1: His unclassifiable potency leaves us the audience to grapple with
- 44:18Speaker 1: the fearlessness on display. And one of the ones for you,
- 44:20Speaker 1: Owen Gliberman here, who's a long term career entertainment week
- 44:22Speaker 1: one of my favorites.
- 44:23Speaker 2: You race for variety.
- 44:24Speaker 1: At certain points, Killian goes crazy, yet Major's brilliant performance
- 44:27Speaker 1: cues us to the grander note of despair that's always
- 44:29Speaker 1: driving the explosion. Travis Bicklin taxi driver was crazy too,
- 44:33Speaker 1: but the beauty of that movie is that his disconnected,
- 44:35Speaker 1: pent up fury expressed something that's there in all of us.
- 44:38Speaker 1: Magazine Dreams creates a character haunting in its extremity, but
- 44:41Speaker 1: his dream becomes ours, as does the heartbreaking prospect of
- 44:45Speaker 1: being stuffed before our eyes. Check out Magazine Dreams wherever
- 44:47Speaker 1: you can on bod right now sounds great. I mean
- 44:49Speaker 1: you got to see, dude, You're gonna love it. Passion
- 44:51Speaker 1: right there, speaking of being locked in our man, tal
- 44:54Speaker 1: Pinchewski co directed the Way New Documentaries I watched on
- 44:58Speaker 1: S and Y fantastic.
- 44:59Speaker 2: I mean, listen, I lived in Connecticut for nine years.
- 45:02Speaker 1: When I got the job at the ESPN, I said
- 45:03Speaker 1: to my wife, a Ki, I went to live in Hartford,
- 45:05Speaker 1: I said, growing up the Whalers. And I got Randy Latiser,
- 45:07Speaker 1: are you kidding? And then the first thing I talked
- 45:09Speaker 1: to my buddy David Ambery, he said, you're not living
- 45:10Speaker 1: in Harford. I know what I got to know, Civic Center.
- 45:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna live right there.
- 45:12Speaker 2: I'm gonna think about old Samuelson.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Every day because no, no West Harford or Avon, that's
- 45:16Speaker 1: where all the ESPN guys live.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Okay, Well, Harper Hartford's terrible.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Now we got relocated to Harford right down Temper two
- 45:21Speaker 1: much when it came from Toronto, And he's right, it's
- 45:23Speaker 1: a nine to five town.
- 45:24Speaker 2: The city shuts it after five.
- 45:25Speaker 1: I couldn't believe him is coming from Toronto, where I
- 45:28Speaker 1: lived in North York for years. There's you know, rabbos
- 45:30Speaker 1: twenty four to seven. Here, there's nothing open after five. Dude,
- 45:34Speaker 1: it's horrible to get groceries to go to the gas station.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Where the hell am I Hartford has gone? It's gone
- 45:38Speaker 1: to shit. Having said that, tallis documentary, very nostalgic, but
- 45:42Speaker 1: at a time where people loved Harper and they were
- 45:43Speaker 1: mentioned cities which of course I knew.
- 45:45Speaker 2: They mentioned Avon, they mentioned Farmington West. Harper is a
- 45:47Speaker 2: community area.
- 45:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:48Speaker 1: The Whalers were the best part of it. I texted
- 45:50Speaker 1: John Fords in the media group text. There's a there's
- 45:52Speaker 1: a shot of Forestland the final game. He goes on
- 45:54Speaker 1: a meaningless night, a night that has such meaning. I'm like, yes, talent,
- 45:57Speaker 1: including Forestland. He goes the final light here for a
- 45:59Speaker 1: Whaler's game.
- 46:00Speaker 2: It really hits you.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Jay again, not being from Hartford but having lived in
- 46:02Speaker 1: Connecticut nine years. You know the hash we have as
- 46:05Speaker 1: hockey fans, the sports fans to have a team where
- 46:08Speaker 1: he had no other major sports team, to have it
- 46:10Speaker 1: and then lose it. I mean, I appreciate the film
- 46:12Speaker 1: because it made me appreciate what the fans were like.
- 46:14Speaker 1: But it may be upset again what it must have
- 46:15Speaker 1: been like to lose a hockey team in the Whalers,
- 46:17Speaker 1: because it's never been the same in Connecticut.
- 46:19Speaker 4: Well, sequel for tal Quebec City, Yes, nice tow. I'm
- 46:25Speaker 4: just saying.
- 46:26Speaker 3: The Nordiaks have Darryl de Merce who is still wrought
- 46:30Speaker 3: with pain that they were ripped from the hands Barcelo
- 46:34Speaker 3: bu My dad works for a wholesale mirror and glass
- 46:37Speaker 3: company and they basically built the videotron center that was
- 46:41Speaker 3: gonna supposed to house the Nordiaks.
- 46:43Speaker 2: Oh so that that.
- 46:44Speaker 3: Building that the junior team plays in now is this
- 46:47Speaker 3: incredible building that does not have an NHL team in it, so.
- 46:52Speaker 4: Needed up upgrading, right, yeah, upgrade yees. So they did
- 46:55Speaker 4: the videotron the s.
- 46:57Speaker 2: But as far as well, here's the craziest thing. I mean,
- 46:59Speaker 2: you were importuately you didn't have a chance to watch
- 47:01Speaker 2: it yet.
- 47:01Speaker 1: But the best part, Tell, Tell, the best part was
- 47:03Speaker 1: when you should these celebrities there who are supporting the Whalers.
- 47:06Speaker 1: Roger Staubach, the great quarterback. Here's the best was a
- 47:09Speaker 1: tennis guy, Evon Lendall. Talk to me about that. Include
- 47:12Speaker 1: that video.
- 47:12Speaker 8: Ev Yeah, so that was pretty fascinating.
- 47:16Speaker 12: So after Howard Baldwin, the founder of the team, sold
- 47:19Speaker 12: them to a different group, they brought in basically a
- 47:23Speaker 12: celebrity board that included Staubach, Bobby or Ivan Lendel.
- 47:28Speaker 2: Oh.
- 47:29Speaker 12: Yeah, basically they were all kind of buddies of the
- 47:32Speaker 12: new ownership group and they needed they wanted some names
- 47:34Speaker 12: to bring in because they didn't really have names on
- 47:36Speaker 12: the ice help prop up the team. And so they
- 47:39Speaker 12: did these commercials for the Whalers, which we have in
- 47:43Speaker 12: the film, and it's a little surreal, like you see that,
- 47:46Speaker 12: you know, Ivan Lendell wearing the full whaler's gear and then.
- 47:49Speaker 8: Going whenever I'm in Hartford, I always go to see
- 47:52Speaker 8: the Whalers.
- 47:53Speaker 12: Or Roger Staubach, who knows a Stabach actually made it
- 47:56Speaker 12: out to a Whaler's game, but he did a commercial
- 47:58Speaker 12: selling tickets for the Whalers, saying whenever I'm in Hartford.
- 48:02Speaker 12: I always go to see the way it was a
- 48:04Speaker 12: you know that the team was sold and moved not
- 48:07Speaker 12: long after that period, but uh yeah, there's just there's
- 48:10Speaker 12: a lot of fun, strange moments like that in the
- 48:13Speaker 12: history of this franchise, and we tried to tap into
- 48:16Speaker 12: all of them.
- 48:17Speaker 1: Best interviews obviously, I mean Larry Plow great accent, Olf
- 48:21Speaker 1: Samuelson very good.
- 48:22Speaker 12: But my guy Chris Berman, he is fantastic and we
- 48:25Speaker 12: we we interviewed over thirty people for the film, including players, coaches,
- 48:31Speaker 12: ownership executives.
- 48:33Speaker 2: Howard Baldens your guy, he's bald guy and.
- 48:36Speaker 12: Was a great, great advocate for the film. He lives
- 48:40Speaker 12: out here in Los Angeles. He's actually a neighbor of
- 48:42Speaker 12: mine and we've talked.
- 48:43Speaker 2: You gave him a special thanks at the end. He
- 48:44Speaker 2: had like his own car.
- 48:45Speaker 12: He was fantastic. He was a tremendous advocate for the project.
- 48:49Speaker 12: But you know, we Jackie Redmond mentioned Paul Maurice and uh,
- 48:54Speaker 12: you know, we we got him.
- 48:55Speaker 2: She Stu Grimson was great.
- 48:56Speaker 12: We got Dean Evisman, we got Stuve Grimson, we got
- 48:59Speaker 12: Brian Burke, I mean we we uh you know, we
- 49:01Speaker 12: got a lot of great people.
- 49:02Speaker 2: Cause I mentioned the one that was glaring missing, Ron Francis.
- 49:06Speaker 12: Yeah, so Ron Francis, we were told by the crack
- 49:09Speaker 12: and we would get him. They had they then had
- 49:12Speaker 12: a year. Yeah, and then well yeah that was towards
- 49:16Speaker 12: the middle of the city and they had turnover. Well yeah, exactly.
- 49:21Speaker 12: Then they had turnover in their communications department, so he
- 49:24Speaker 12: had new people to deal with, and then their season
- 49:28Speaker 12: just fell off a cliff. And once that happened, it
- 49:30Speaker 12: obviously got much harder to get him. So we're still
- 49:34Speaker 12: working on it. But yeah, that was obviously a glaring omission.
- 49:37Speaker 12: I think it's my understanding is it's not a topic
- 49:41Speaker 12: he really cares to talk about that much.
- 49:45Speaker 4: Was fantastic, Yeah, I think, yeah, Ron Ron really doesn't
- 49:49Speaker 4: want to talk about that. I wonder why.
- 49:51Speaker 12: That's something that I mean, maybe it's because he gets
- 49:54Speaker 12: asked about it and has been asked about it so much,
- 49:56Speaker 12: and he wants to be maybe known more as an
- 49:59Speaker 12: They make himself.
- 49:59Speaker 2: Like a god like Boomer goes he could run for governor,
- 50:02Speaker 2: I mean he is.
- 50:05Speaker 3: Why wouldn't he maybe take the Rangers gig we can
- 50:10Speaker 3: get We can get into that later in this episode.
- 50:13Speaker 8: But yeah, but he was he was one glaring omission.
- 50:16Speaker 12: But we really were able to get pretty much everyone
- 50:18Speaker 12: else wanted to talk whalers, which was a lot of fun.
- 50:21Speaker 8: And appreciate you checking it out.
- 50:23Speaker 3: Of course, send me the link because I I will
- 50:27Speaker 3: harbor I have the whalers a couple of things, and
- 50:29Speaker 3: you gotta say. They have a music video they put
- 50:30Speaker 3: out about the whalers. There was a song they would
- 50:32Speaker 3: play was Verbacon. To tell them, hey, listen, he told
- 50:34Speaker 3: Brookie Goes, stop playing the song. The guys don't like
- 50:36Speaker 3: it feels like Mickey Mouse here, like, okay, we'll stop
- 50:38Speaker 3: playing the song.
- 50:39Speaker 4: We had. Yeah, we it was like holiday sweater in
- 50:41Speaker 4: San Jose holidays.
- 50:43Speaker 1: But the best part about is this. This is the
- 50:45Speaker 1: single best part. As we know every year they lose
- 50:49Speaker 1: the bruins of the HAPs as far as they told me.
- 50:51Speaker 1: I asked me because dude, there was one year we
- 50:52Speaker 1: had the seventh best record in hockey and we were
- 50:54Speaker 1: fourth in our division. Like it was brutal every year,
- 50:57Speaker 1: but this is the best part. To out, there was
- 50:59Speaker 1: a parade after they won one round. There was a
- 51:03Speaker 1: joke and to check out, they had a parade at
- 51:05Speaker 1: Harper they won one round.
- 51:07Speaker 12: I love that tho incredible and in a weird way,
- 51:10Speaker 12: it's like uniquely Hartford. They lost to Montreal in the
- 51:13Speaker 12: second round in eighty six. Montreal went on to win
- 51:16Speaker 12: the Cup that summer. That the you know, the contention
- 51:20Speaker 12: around Hartford was, well, if they had just beaten Montreal
- 51:23Speaker 12: in game seven, that was the Claude Lemieux overtime goal.
- 51:26Speaker 12: If they just find a way to win that game,
- 51:27Speaker 12: they maybe they go all the way and then Hartford
- 51:30Speaker 12: wins the Cup and that there's this universe where they're
- 51:33Speaker 12: a Cup winner and the team still they have prayed
- 51:36Speaker 12: for losing the parade for winning a playoff series.
- 51:39Speaker 8: Yep, they did.
- 51:40Speaker 4: Yeah, that's unreal. I gotta watch that.
- 51:42Speaker 1: No, definitely check it out. And honestly, the coolest thing.
- 51:44Speaker 1: I love people watch the logo. Like to this date,
- 51:47Speaker 1: it's still well the highest selling memorabillage. And the guy
- 51:49Speaker 1: who defined the look, I think this is Peter Good.
- 51:51Speaker 1: He does a great stray but out the whale. Every
- 51:53Speaker 1: think it was really really cool stuff.
- 51:54Speaker 2: All right.
- 51:54Speaker 8: He passed away not long after we interviewed him.
- 51:56Speaker 2: Actually you mentioned the credits he passed We were.
- 51:58Speaker 12: Really grateful to be able to get him and talk
- 52:01Speaker 12: to him. And yeah, it's airs not a.
- 52:02Speaker 2: Hockey guy, not even logo he did, Yeah, not at all.
- 52:06Speaker 12: It's airing on some regional sports networks right now in
- 52:09Speaker 12: the US. I'll keep you guys posted as far as
- 52:11Speaker 12: where people can catch it next.
- 52:13Speaker 2: Please do.
- 52:14Speaker 4: Yeah, check out Titty Pinchewski.
- 52:17Speaker 1: She's just taken that nickname and run with it. Thanks
- 52:19Speaker 1: so much to Darreld Demers and Jackie Raven and the
- 52:21Speaker 1: entire crew. Thank you for listening to NHL Unscripted. We'll
