- 1:38Carmen Lezeth: So welcome.
- 1:40Carmen Lezeth: I first want to start with a few announcements that everybody knows I'm really really excited about, and the SAG After Strike is over, yay.
- 1:52Carmen Lezeth: So it's a little tentative, although everyone has come out.
- 1:56Carmen Lezeth: Fran Dresser just sent, who is the president of SAG After, sent everyone an email.
- 2:03Carmen Lezeth: We've been updated on a pretty daily basis from SAG After.
- 2:06Carmen Lezeth: They've been amazing as a negotiating committee but also just keeping us all informed, and it's going to be ratified Hopefully on Friday.
- 2:14Carmen Lezeth: It's just so kind of exciting.
- 2:16Carmen Lezeth: They really, from what we know, we haven't had the ability to read it yet, but we got what we wanted.
- 2:23Carmen Lezeth: So, for the most part, I'm sure there's a lot of negotiation, but the AI part was a really big one.
- 2:30Carmen Lezeth: So, 118 days.
- 2:31Carmen Lezeth: Shout out to all the actors that were on the picket lines, also to IOTC, all the other unions, wga.
- 2:39Carmen Lezeth: I also want to give a shout out to all the other people who are impacted.
- 2:42Carmen Lezeth: Again, I cannot stress enough this impacted, you know, all the people who work in the crews caterers, makeup artists, people who do hair and costume design, editors.
- 2:55Carmen Lezeth: It impacted restaurants, location scouts.
- 2:58Carmen Lezeth: This didn't just impact actors, it impacted so many people.
- 3:04Carmen Lezeth: So thank you for everyone who stood with the union and I'm just so excited and everyone's going to get back to work.
- 3:10Carmen Lezeth: So, yay, and Rick, you and I can have our show that we want to just talk about Stargate.
- 3:19Rick Costa: Finally.
- 3:20Carmen Lezeth: Movies now and television, and we've been really trying to not I've been trying to not do it.
- 3:26Carmen Lezeth: It has slipped a few times with guests or with people, but Rick, let it out, let it out, can't wait, yeah, so I just wanted to give that announcement.
- 3:36Carmen Lezeth: The other thing I wanted to just throw out there I already mentioned Fran Drusher, but I just want to say I know people know her from the nanny, but I am just I love amazing, fabulous people, and who would have thought the actress from the nanny would have become the powerhouse president of SAG AFTRA and then lead us through this?
- 3:59Carmen Lezeth: I just find that I just love fabulous, amazing people who stick to their guns and do it their way with their style, so I wanted to give a shout out to her.
- 4:07Carmen Lezeth: You know, just amazing.
- 4:09Carmen Lezeth: Okay, I just want to see how you guys are doing first before we go into our next thing.
- 4:15Carmen Lezeth: How are you guys doing, cynthia?
- 4:17Carmen Lezeth: How was your week so far?
- 4:25Carmen Lezeth: Yeah and you can't see one of us.
- 4:29Carmen Lezeth: So glad you could hear us.
- 4:31Carmen Lezeth: That was good.
- 4:46Carmen Lezeth: I didn't know that Okay it has been given.
- 4:49Carmen Lezeth: Do you want to share what happened this week?
- 4:54Carmen Lezeth: That's just, you don't have to.
- 4:58Cynthia Ruiz: It's just a stressful week.
- 4:59Cynthia Ruiz: You know the hospital is crazy and everyone coming in with COVID and flu oh yeah, numbers are going back up.
- 5:07Cynthia Ruiz: It's been a little crazy at work.
- 5:10Carmen Lezeth: I mean, I mean, is it numbers coming back up to like we might be afraid?
- 5:14Carmen Lezeth: Again or it's just this is going to be the new normal in the fall, or something.
- 5:19Cynthia Ruiz: It's going to be the new normal.
- 5:20Cynthia Ruiz: It's definitely going to be the new normal, but I mean they're not making the mass mandatory right now, so the numbers aren't that crazy, which is good, but I mean it's going to be just like the flu.
- 5:31Cynthia Ruiz: Every year you're going to have to, you know, just be precocious.
- 5:37Carmen Lezeth: I just went and got another COVID shot.
- 5:39Carmen Lezeth: Like I'm kind of, oh, I got the COVID and the flu shot just two days ago.
- 5:42Carmen Lezeth: I'm kind of over it, I have to tell you, but I'm going to do it.
- 5:46Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, joy, how is your week?
- 5:49Carmen Lezeth: How are you doing anything wonderful, joyous or miserable, like Cynthia?
- 5:57Joy Gouge: No, so good, Just getting ready, packing, getting ready to fly out to East Tennessee again on Saturday.
- 6:05Joy Gouge: So why are we going to Tennessee?
- 6:08Carmen Lezeth: We why?
- 6:09Joy Gouge: are we going?
- 6:09Carmen Lezeth: to.
- 6:09Cynthia Ruiz: Tennessee.
- 6:12Joy Gouge: Well, I'm going back to East Tennessee to visit my family.
- 6:15Joy Gouge: Oh, are you there for the holidays?
- 6:17Joy Gouge: Or like early and just going for a week this time, and then I will.
- 6:22Joy Gouge: We'll be back for Thanksgiving here in Memphis and then I'm flying back the first week of December.
- 6:32Carmen Lezeth: Oh, okay, traveling, you're always traveling, by the way.
- 6:35Carmen Lezeth: That's what I noticed.
- 6:36Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, traveling Queen over here.
- 6:40Rick Costa: Yeah.
- 6:41Carmen Lezeth: Okay, cool, but you had a great week.
- 6:42Carmen Lezeth: Great or good week, it was good.
- 6:45Carmen Lezeth: It was good.
- 6:46Carmen Lezeth: Good car that don't sound like it was good.
- 6:48Carmen Lezeth: But okay, we don't know what, that we don't go.
- 6:50Carmen Lezeth: Andrea, I already know some of skip you for now.
- 6:53Carmen Lezeth: We're going to do it later, because we already I already know that's gonna be a conversation.
- 7:03Rick Costa: It was okay.
- 7:04Rick Costa: Work was weird because they're still moving buildings and they still haven't finished.
- 7:09Rick Costa: I don't know who's where what building y'all are in and I'm like people call can I talk to?
- 7:13Rick Costa: I don't know where he's at right now.
- 7:15Rick Costa: So works been very weird and they haven't even shipped most stuff that should be shipped by now.
- 7:20Rick Costa: But anyway, and there was some backlash from last week that I did not discuss with you because I didn't want you to get upset about it, but I got thrown into the show.
- 7:30Rick Costa: Yeah.
- 7:32Carmen Lezeth: I got enough backlash, but I got some good stuff to.
- 7:35Carmen Lezeth: I got good backlash.
- 7:37Rick Costa: So the funny thing to me was the funny thing to me was so said person was on another person's broadcasts who used to be mortal enemies, now they're best my besties with their clothes and like mind blown.
- 7:50Rick Costa: And then the other one said oh, rick Costa, oh I, he's a fraud.
- 7:56Rick Costa: I talked to him, to him on absent.
- 8:00Rick Costa: I proved he was a fraud.
- 8:01Rick Costa: I'm like I never even talked to you in my life.
- 8:04Rick Costa: What are you talking about?
- 8:05Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, crazy and I think that's about as much as we gonna give that issue.
- 8:09Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, I'm done on the show, but you know what it's like.
- 8:14Carmen Lezeth: Here's the good news.
- 8:15Carmen Lezeth: I got, first of all, some of the most amazing Compliments.
- 8:19Carmen Lezeth: I got so many more people who are following the podcast to like.
- 8:24Carmen Lezeth: Some of my old school friends were like finally, the real Carmen came out.
- 8:29Rick Costa: Sassy Carmen is back.
- 8:32Carmen Lezeth: Somebody was like we like this Carmen better than the polished Carmen.
- 8:37Carmen Lezeth: One of my clients who was crying Melanie's like yay, tony's like damn.
- 8:51Carmen Lezeth: One of my clients was watching this show.
- 8:55Carmen Lezeth: I was cracking up because he talked about it.
- 8:58Carmen Lezeth: He was like you know what?
- 9:00Carmen Lezeth: That's how you have to rally the troops here.
- 9:02Carmen Lezeth: I want you to swear, but I got.
- 9:18Carmen Lezeth: I Thought it was really good and I think I think one of the things that's really interesting about life is Again and I'm not trying to keep saying this, but when you can actually find the joy in things.
- 9:33Carmen Lezeth: You know, and what I realized.
- 9:35Carmen Lezeth: I was speaking to someone today who watched the show, who said one of the things that I loved about watching you is that we're so used to seeing the polished Carmen and not that we want to see that person all the time, but it was nice to see that other side of you, you know, and and I was like I can't believe you saying this to me, you know- that, that's, that's the car.
- 10:00Cynthia Ruiz: And what with that picture you posted?
- 10:10Carmen Lezeth: Oh my god.
- 10:11Carmen Lezeth: So yeah, I you know what I say always stay away from the negativity, grab on to the positivity and ignore what you can.
- 10:18Carmen Lezeth: Had a moment where I wasn't good at ignoring, but you know that was also on my show, so alright, everyone buckle up, andrea I.
- 10:32Andrea Nunez: Always stay away from the negativity.
- 10:34Andrea Nunez: I was like, okay, fine, everybody, crap week.
- 10:45Andrea Nunez: It's been really hard at some work stuff.
- 10:48Andrea Nunez: It's been happening since last Friday.
- 10:50Andrea Nunez: I'm losing sleep, I got like it's just been rough and I'm trying to take care of Everybody's feelings and expectations, which is not.
- 11:01Andrea Nunez: You know, you can't really discuss what happened or not.
- 11:04Carmen Lezeth: We cannot discuss.
- 11:05Carmen Lezeth: I do know Andrea and I went out to dinner last week and we ate and we talked, and so I I do know what happened and I'm just so sorry I'll put it in this terms it's, it's always difficult when you manage a team of people and and you have to keep lifting people up.
- 11:25Carmen Lezeth: It's really hard, especially when your clients upset or whatever, and that's what I'll say.
- 11:30Carmen Lezeth: That kind of puts a little button on it.
- 11:31Carmen Lezeth: But so I feel for you and I'm just sorry you're still going through it and and yeah, alright, well, we wish you well.
- 11:38Carmen Lezeth: Well, hopefully you'll have a little bit of laughter today.
- 11:41Rick Costa: My joy right here if you're not up yourself but you got to make everybody else, that's even harder.
- 11:46Andrea Nunez: Oh yeah, yeah, that's true.
- 11:49Carmen Lezeth: Well, how do you guys deal with that?
- 11:51Carmen Lezeth: If you are not feeling great but you have to lift other people up, how do you get yourself there?
- 11:57Carmen Lezeth: That's actually an interesting question.
- 11:59Rick Costa: Fake it till, I make it.
- 12:03Carmen Lezeth: That's fair.
- 12:03Carmen Lezeth: Fake it to you, make it Yep.
- 12:06Cynthia Ruiz: Cynthia, pretty much the same.
- 12:07Cynthia Ruiz: You show one side to your team and then you can go to the bathroom and cry your eyes out if you need to.
- 12:14Andrea Nunez: Oh, andrea um, I mean, yeah, a version of that, for sure, you know you have to Be polished right, put on the face and like, put that out there for everybody.
- 12:24Andrea Nunez: But for me I have to have someone like you or somebody else that I can then go and be like you know you got.
- 12:34Andrea Nunez: You have to have that outlet, you know joy.
- 12:37Carmen Lezeth: How do you deal with it?
- 12:38Joy Gouge: I'm the same way you know, because you just have to compartmentalize it and Move on and focus on your team and not focus on yourself, which is hard, yeah, it's really hard sometimes.
- 12:52Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, I don't know if I do any of that.
- 12:54Carmen Lezeth: I Don't know, I don't know what you do.
- 12:57Carmen Lezeth: Well, I mean, I think that's why my client was so funny, because he was just like I want you to swear more, like I'm not gonna swear, but it's really hard for me to hide when I'm disappointed in people, or you know, look at, most of times people call me to fire people or, you know, things are a disaster.
- 13:17Carmen Lezeth: That's when people want to hire me, right, and then I have the maintenance clients that I keep on, but what ends up happening is I never end up firing most people because it's usually Not their fault.
- 13:26Carmen Lezeth: It's usually the person who hired me setting up unrealistic, realistic expectations or whatever it is.
- 13:32Carmen Lezeth: And I think one of the things I'm really good at and I don't mean this, to go back to last week's show, I don't have a problem at confrontation and I've learned how to Look it, and this is a stylistic thing.
- 13:45Carmen Lezeth: This is not something I recommend to anyone else, because I've been burnt so many times too as I went through this process.
- 13:51Carmen Lezeth: I think we just all have different styles, but when I'm not feeling up or whatever, is probably when I shine most.
- 13:57Carmen Lezeth: And, andrea, I was telling you at dinner.
- 13:59Carmen Lezeth: I was telling you at dinner the other night, like I think I have been doing Oscar worthy like Performances in front of my clients.
- 14:07Carmen Lezeth: Just I feel like so many times I'm like just acting through it all.
- 14:14Carmen Lezeth: So maybe that's how I handle it.
- 14:18Carmen Lezeth: But I I don't have a problem telling people exactly what I think is.
- 14:23Carmen Lezeth: I guess I Think you all saw a version of that.
- 14:27Carmen Lezeth: But just even in in regular life, and when I'm tired, I tell people I got time for this, I'm tired, let's talk about this tomorrow at four o'clock.
- 14:34Carmen Lezeth: That's my opening on my calendar, like and I'm very blunt about it, you know or I'll tell people to stop texting me, like I told one team the other day no more texting me after six.
- 14:45Carmen Lezeth: We're just not, I'm not answering it, you're all on silent.
- 14:48Carmen Lezeth: So if there's an emergency called a police, fire department or your boss, you know, to me, no art, don't bother me, I'm not paying that much.
- 15:03Andrea Nunez: Yeah, slow and deliberate and make sure that whatever I say is what I actually want to say.
- 15:11Andrea Nunez: So I try to really take a beat and Let my emotions calm down so that I can deal with the situation in the way that I actually want to, versus being like super reactive.
- 15:24Carmen Lezeth: I'm super reactive, yeah, super no, but even that work, I just yeah, I don't.
- 15:33Carmen Lezeth: It's not that I don't care, I Think there's.
- 15:36Carmen Lezeth: I mean, I know what you're saying, you know, yeah, I totally get that, but I all this is, it's just a different style.
- 15:44Carmen Lezeth: I think I also really do trust my initial gut and emotional instinct.
- 15:49Carmen Lezeth: You know, I was talking to Ted today, ted Hicks, who we love, whatever and I was asking him how do you deal with?
- 15:58Carmen Lezeth: You know, like, let's be honest, ted Hicks has a pristine image, like on the internet, like everybody loves to, and I was like how do you deal, though, with people or when things erupt, or whatever?
- 16:13Carmen Lezeth: And he was like I don't.
- 16:15Carmen Lezeth: And I was like, yeah, okay, okay.
- 16:17Carmen Lezeth: But he's like, no, no, carmen, I I don't Walk away from it, I ignore it, I would ever.
- 16:25Carmen Lezeth: And I was like, see, that's a whole other level of skill I will never have, you know, because I think there's a level of patience there or like I Don't know what it is, but at some point people are gonna piss me off enough and I'm gonna say something.
- 16:41Carmen Lezeth: Oh yeah mute and sneeze.
- 16:42Carmen Lezeth: That was so good, because then it makes it easier for me.
- 16:46Cynthia Ruiz: I was like Andrea I.
- 17:09Rick Costa: Love how you.
- 17:21Carmen Lezeth: I brought up 10 Hicks.
- 17:22Carmen Lezeth: I did that for a reason because I thought it'd be an easy way segue.
- 17:25Carmen Lezeth: So Ted Hicks wanted me to ask you all, joy you to, even though you weren't there last time.
- 17:30Carmen Lezeth: I guess the guys want to do another collab, but they want to do it in December.
- 17:35Carmen Lezeth: And I said I didn't hear.
- 17:38Carmen Lezeth: My people said they wanted to do it again.
- 17:43Andrea Nunez: It would be a lot of live on the air.
- 17:50Carmen Lezeth: You can think about it, mull it over and let me know.
- 17:54Andrea Nunez: I'd be happy to do it.
- 17:55Andrea Nunez: I just got it.
- 17:55Andrea Nunez: You know like December is a rough month, but yeah Well, cynthia joy I.
- 18:02Joy Gouge: Will try.
- 18:03Joy Gouge: I guess it depends on what time.
- 18:06Carmen Lezeth: Well, it would be at six o'clock, it would be at the same time, but it would be on a Friday.
- 18:09Carmen Lezeth: So it's gonna be one of the December Fridays.
- 18:11Carmen Lezeth: Did I say that right?
- 18:13Carmen Lezeth: A Friday in December.
- 18:14Carmen Lezeth: So I'll send you guys an email and I mean I, all of them want to do it, or whatever, and which is kind of cool.
- 18:24Carmen Lezeth: I just didn't even think about it because I thought we're gonna do it Maybe quarterly.
- 18:27Carmen Lezeth: But he has a idea, a theme, what he wants to ask questions about.
- 18:34Carmen Lezeth: I'm like, okay, cool.
- 18:36Joy Gouge: Is he gonna host?
- 18:37Carmen Lezeth: this time.
- 18:37Carmen Lezeth: I think I mean he hosted last time I didn't host.
- 18:41Carmen Lezeth: Well, I mean like on his.
- 18:43Carmen Lezeth: So the reason why we weren't using his is because he can't have the comments on oh I, it's because they don't have, so he has to be reading them and then putting them up one by one.
- 18:54Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, you know what I mean and, and I don't know, it just seems like a lot of work if all of us are on there and yeah, no, do you want to be on?
- 19:03Carmen Lezeth: Oh, he invited you on his show, so you're all game if it fits in your schedule.
- 19:07Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, I'm not feeling a lot of enthusiasm, I guess because you're being recorded, so we'll talk about it later and I'll take the blame for saying no, it's okay, you All right.
- 19:19Carmen Lezeth: So I sent you guys all a little list and I wanted to ask you all what is something extraordinary that you've done that you may or may not do again, and I went skydiving back in 2005.
- 19:30Carmen Lezeth: It's a great video, it's hilarious.
- 19:33Carmen Lezeth: It was cut down to one minute, but I found the 15 minute one.
- 19:37Carmen Lezeth: I'm not going to make you all watch it, but I'm going to redo it because the music on it, which is really cool, it's Eminem and it's YouTube.
- 19:48Carmen Lezeth: Every time I try to post it it gets taken down because it's not licensed.
- 19:52Carmen Lezeth: But the skydiving place did it.
- 19:53Carmen Lezeth: So I found the actual original video and I'm going to try with all my new editing skills to redo it with some different music so that I can show it, because I think it's kind of cool.
- 20:05Carmen Lezeth: But I love that video, not just because it's me skydiving, but I'm talking to the camera guy.
- 20:12Carmen Lezeth: You would think that I was talking to him.
- 20:15Carmen Lezeth: He can't hear me, but I'm talking to him.
- 20:20Carmen Lezeth: You're like get this light, I'm having a full on conversation with nobody, because Mario can't hear me and Nathan is the camera guy, clearly can't hear me, but it looks like I'm having this whole conversation.
- 20:35Carmen Lezeth: It's just kind of cool and anyways, but I would do that again in a heartbeat and so it got me thinking about that and I just wanted to know if there's anything extraordinary that you guys want to do, haven't done, already did and never want to do again.
- 20:48Carmen Lezeth: Andrea.
- 20:49Andrea Nunez: Well, mine is also skydiving, so I don't know if that's cheating.
- 20:53Carmen Lezeth: That's not cheating.
- 20:53Carmen Lezeth: Did you go skydiving and I didn't know?
- 20:56Andrea Nunez: Yeah, so I'm reluctant to bring this up, but so I was skydiving on my 30th birthday and like there was a whole group of people and I don't know why is like, why weren't you?
- 21:10Cynthia Ruiz: there.
- 21:10Cynthia Ruiz: I'm so sorry yeah.
- 21:13Carmen Lezeth: Wait, what age was this?
- 21:17Andrea Nunez: My 30th birthday.
- 21:19Carmen Lezeth: Okay, so I think we're getting to a point right.
- 21:22Andrea Nunez: This is why you're reluctant because you got upset about the surprise party that you were somehow not invited I know that you were not invited to this, but I have no way to prove that.
- 21:39Carmen Lezeth: That's such a bullshittery.
- 21:40Carmen Lezeth: I had a surprise party for me.
- 21:44Carmen Lezeth: I didn't know about it.
- 21:46Carmen Lezeth: Now you're mad at me for not inviting you.
- 21:49Andrea Nunez: Okay, you want to go back here?
- 21:52Carmen Lezeth: Because you just think you went skydiving, which I never knew that you went skydiving and you've been lying to me all these years.
- 22:00Carmen Lezeth: You want to talk about how you didn't invite me to the skydiving party.
- 22:09Andrea Nunez: I feel like I would have invited you All, right, okay, I don't actually remember.
- 22:15Andrea Nunez: Here's like it was a group of people, so it was my boyfriend at the time who which was who do.
- 22:21Andrea Nunez: I know.
- 22:21Carmen Lezeth: Yeah.
- 22:24Andrea Nunez: You know didn't like him and my mom went your mom went to.
- 22:29Carmen Lezeth: I love.
- 22:31Joy Gouge: Your mom was skydiving.
- 22:33Cynthia Ruiz: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:34Andrea Nunez: Yeah, and then a couple of friends, but I honestly don't remember who.
- 22:41Carmen Lezeth: Well, I can't believe your mom went and you didn't invite me.
- 22:47Andrea Nunez: So we went to this place.
- 22:48Andrea Nunez: I know I invited you.
- 22:54Andrea Nunez: I was in San Diego where you could see the water, which was really nice.
- 23:00Andrea Nunez: And we get there and everyone's you know you have to sign the waivers and everything.
- 23:07Andrea Nunez: You're not really thinking.
- 23:07Andrea Nunez: You're trying not to think about it, Right?
- 23:09Andrea Nunez: You're like, oh okay, Like we could literally all die and I was like this could be the actual worst day of my life.
- 23:17Andrea Nunez: I was in love with her.
- 23:20Andrea Nunez: I could die in front of me, or my boyfriend, who I love, or one of my friends.
- 23:27Andrea Nunez: Like this was a horrible idea, but not Carmen, because she wasn't there but.
- 23:31Andrea Nunez: I didn't like love it.
- 23:33Andrea Nunez: You know what I mean Like.
- 23:34Andrea Nunez: So I just feel like I'm I'm good, I don't need to do that.
- 23:37Carmen Lezeth: Oh, you don't need to do it again.
- 23:39Andrea Nunez: Oh no.
- 23:40Carmen Lezeth: Did you video tape it?
- 23:41Andrea Nunez: Yeah, there's a video.
- 23:42Andrea Nunez: Oh my God, I've never seen the video.
- 23:45Carmen Lezeth: Wow, I've never seen it.
- 23:46Carmen Lezeth: I've never seen it.
- 23:47Cynthia Ruiz: I've never seen it, I've never seen it.
- 23:48Carmen Lezeth: I've never seen it.
- 23:49Carmen Lezeth: I've never seen it.
- 23:49Carmen Lezeth: I've never seen it.
- 23:50Carmen Lezeth: I've never seen it, I've never seen it.
- 23:57Rick Costa: You've been, you've been hiding it because this is a fight We'll have offscreen, that's okay.
- 24:01Andrea Nunez: I think Andrea was saving your life subconsciously.
- 24:03Andrea Nunez: That's what I choose my life I've already gone skydiving.
- 24:05Andrea Nunez: Yeah, she didn't want to risk you again.
- 24:07Andrea Nunez: Your skydiving In 2005,.
- 24:09Andrea Nunez: That was after my.
- 24:09Cynthia Ruiz: Yeah, that was way after her.
- 24:11Joy Gouge: Not way.
- 24:12Cynthia Ruiz: I was like oh, I'm like 25 years.
- 24:19Andrea Nunez: That was like me, sorry.
- 24:24Carmen Lezeth: I can't stop laughing.
- 24:26Carmen Lezeth: Okay, we're going to talk later.
- 24:27Carmen Lezeth: I feel like there's more to talk about that and I feel like we're even, because I I can't believe you're laughing.
- 24:34Carmen Lezeth: I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 24:45Andrea Nunez: I can't believe your mother didn't invite me.
- 24:47Andrea Nunez: That's the weird you.
- 24:48Andrea Nunez: That's why.
- 24:48Andrea Nunez: I believe you were invited, but anyway, we can oh wow, we know what or that I wasn't invited.
- 24:53Carmen Lezeth: Oh my God, I got it.
- 24:55Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, I'm.
- 24:55Carmen Lezeth: I'm going to pull a 10 X and I'm going to just ignore.
- 25:00Rick Costa: Ignore.
- 25:03Carmen Lezeth: I'm pulling a 10 X.
- 25:04Carmen Lezeth: Okay, joy, what about you?
- 25:07Joy Gouge: You know, the weird thing is I don't know if I'm really done anything extraordinary.
- 25:12Joy Gouge: I would like to go parasailing again.
- 25:16Carmen Lezeth: You don't think that's extraordinary parasailing?
- 25:18Carmen Lezeth: I don't know.
- 25:19Carmen Lezeth: Oh my God, don't keep her head just like that, but it really was a lot of fun, though it really was.
- 25:24Carmen Lezeth: Is this because you're so bougie?
- 25:31Joy Gouge: It's kind of one of the regular basis Parasailing, parasailing, parasailing, parasailing, parasailing.
- 25:36Cynthia Ruiz: Parasailing.
- 25:36Carmen Lezeth: Parasailing, parasailing, parasailing, pararasailing.
- 25:42Joy Gouge: Can you come over?
- 25:43Joy Gouge: Well, the funny thing, you know, we're talking about skydiving.
- 25:48Joy Gouge: And I was laying in my hospital bed right after I had a blood clot in my lung and the doctor walks in.
- 25:56Joy Gouge: The very first thing he says to me is no skydiving for you.
- 26:00Joy Gouge: My mom was like Thank you, jesus.
- 26:02Joy Gouge: And then he's like Uh, it's Like he's planning to going to.
- 26:08Carmen Lezeth: Oh, you were gonna go, I was planning it yep.
- 26:13Carmen Lezeth: I think power sailing was scarier than skydiving.
- 26:16Carmen Lezeth: I've never been power sailing, but I would think that's scarier To me.
- 26:20Carmen Lezeth: It would be.
- 26:20Joy Gouge: It's like, once you get up in the air, it's like so peaceful because it's just silent, you know, and I mean you can see the ocean.
- 26:29Joy Gouge: I was on the ocean and you could just it was just, it was beautiful, it really was beautiful.
- 26:35Carmen Lezeth: When you're really up high and it feels like you're going slowly and how long were you up there?
- 26:41Carmen Lezeth: Probably about 10 minutes.
- 26:43Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, no, that's too long.
- 26:45Carmen Lezeth: No, no, no, no, no.
- 26:46Andrea Nunez: That's where you're like, attached to the boat, right With a parachute, yeah, yeah, no, that always looked fun to me.
- 26:51Andrea Nunez: But then you see the video where they get detached and then they like float off somewhere.
- 26:58Joy Gouge: Yeah, no, I can't think about that, that's hand gliding right.
- 27:03Carmen Lezeth: I mean, there's a difference between power sailing and hand gliding.
- 27:05Carmen Lezeth: I would never go hand gliding, for sure.
- 27:07Joy Gouge: Now see, when I was in San Francisco I was actually going to try to get with one of my friend, chris, for a city.
- 27:15Joy Gouge: He knew somebody that was doing the hand gliding but the timing just didn't work out for us.
- 27:21Carmen Lezeth: But I was actually going to go hand gliding.
- 27:22Carmen Lezeth: No, that I wouldn't do Wow okay, you're an adventurous, yeah, I was yeah, here.
- 27:32Carmen Lezeth: I thought I was all cool being the only one who wins skydive.
- 27:34Carmen Lezeth: Clearly not, yeah, and clearly I'm not the only bougie person in the room.
- 27:39Carmen Lezeth: So, okay, cynthia, and I just want to give a shout out to people.
- 27:43Carmen Lezeth: If you still don't know who Cynthia can't see.
- 27:45Carmen Lezeth: Blah, blah, blah, okay, has anything changed, cynthia?
- 27:50Carmen Lezeth: Nope, okay, well, whatever, yeah, what about you?
- 27:55Carmen Lezeth: What about you?
- 27:57Cynthia Ruiz: I don't think I've done anything extraordinary, but I do want to swim with dolphins.
- 28:01Cynthia Ruiz: Oh, me too.
- 28:04Carmen Lezeth: I do want to do that.
- 28:05Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, that does nothing for me, but yeah.
- 28:10Cynthia Ruiz: I love dolphins.
- 28:11Carmen Lezeth: I'm sorry, joy, go ahead, sorry, go ahead, joy.
- 28:14Joy Gouge: I'm going to try to do that next year, yeah.
- 28:17Carmen Lezeth: Cynthia, what are you planning to do it?
- 28:18Carmen Lezeth: No idea.
- 28:19Carmen Lezeth: Do you like swimming in the ocean?
- 28:26Cynthia Ruiz: No, so do I?
- 28:26Cynthia Ruiz: No, but it wouldn't be in the ocean, it would be like in a tank, like you know how, like they have like in Vegas, how they have like a whole dolphin show.
- 28:38Cynthia Ruiz: You can actually swim with them in the tank In Vegas.
- 28:43Carmen Lezeth: Okay, wow, you just ruined the thought.
- 28:48Carmen Lezeth: I would think you were doing it in the ocean.
- 28:51Cynthia Ruiz: No, not the ocean.
- 28:52Andrea Nunez: No, they don't have the trained dolphins in the ocean.
- 28:54Andrea Nunez: You can't just jump in and swim with them, right?
- 28:56Andrea Nunez: They won't come near you, I would imagine.
- 29:00Joy Gouge: Actually they can.
- 29:01Joy Gouge: Yeah, they can.
- 29:04Cynthia Ruiz: Yeah, I'd be too scared of sharks coming to try to eat them and eat me.
- 29:07Cynthia Ruiz: I don't know.
- 29:08Carmen Lezeth: Okay, I'll tell you.
- 29:09Carmen Lezeth: When I used to go kayaking in the mornings in Malibu, we would all go kayaking at like six in the morning.
- 29:14Carmen Lezeth: It would be so cool to see the dolphins, you know what I mean, and it'd be.
- 29:19Carmen Lezeth: I was surrounded by a lot of triathletes and I was like scared out of my mind because I respect and love the beach.
- 29:26Carmen Lezeth: Everyone knows I live by the beach and I do.
- 29:28Carmen Lezeth: But being in the water is you're never gonna see me wanna do that.
- 29:32Carmen Lezeth: So that was a lot for me.
- 29:34Carmen Lezeth: But we would see the dolphins you know what I mean In the morning with the surfers, which is pretty cool, like when they're like alongside them or whatever.
- 29:41Andrea Nunez: But yeah, and they're like jumping over the waves.
- 29:44Andrea Nunez: I've seen that.
- 29:45Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, they're just so beautiful and elegant.
- 29:47Carmen Lezeth: But of course I was like that looked like a shark, that didn't look like no dolphin and they'd be like oh my God, Carmen, I'm like it just looks like a shark, Like I see the fian, Isn't the fian like it should?
- 29:55Carmen Lezeth: I'd be like Carmen, Like you can't take the city out of the girl, right?
- 30:00Carmen Lezeth: No matter where you go.
- 30:02Carmen Lezeth: You only be so.
- 30:03Andrea Nunez: What is it?
- 30:03Andrea Nunez: I wanna watch them.
- 30:04Andrea Nunez: Cynthia, what is it Like?
- 30:06Andrea Nunez: Why do you wanna swim with the dolphins?
- 30:08Andrea Nunez: What is it about?
- 30:09Cynthia Ruiz: Oh, I love dolphins I've always loved dolphins.
- 30:11Cynthia Ruiz: I just think they're so pretty and so smart and just I love them.
- 30:17Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, the ones in Vegas in a pool.
- 30:19Carmen Lezeth: Okay, maybe SeaWorld.
- 30:21Carmen Lezeth: How about that?
- 30:22Cynthia Ruiz: I don't know.
- 30:23Carmen Lezeth: We thought it was a red blue.
- 30:24Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, I would prefer that.
- 30:26Carmen Lezeth: I'm like I'm the biggest one.
- 30:29Carmen Lezeth: Carmen's okay in your SeaWorld trip, but not your biggest SeaWorld trip because they're probably at least trying to help the dolphins, but do they even have dolphins in Vegas anymore.
- 30:38Andrea Nunez: I don't think they do.
- 30:39Andrea Nunez: No, they don't.
- 30:40Andrea Nunez: Kate.
- 30:41Andrea Nunez: We've had everything in Vegas.
- 30:42Andrea Nunez: Carmen, oh yeah.
- 30:44Carmen Lezeth: The only thing I wanna see in Vegas is you two in the sphere, or whatever it's called.
- 30:48Carmen Lezeth: That's all I wanna see, but I'm waiting for those tickets from someone who might be watching the show.
- 30:54Carmen Lezeth: No, it's not.
- 30:56Carmen Lezeth: Hello, hello.
- 30:57Carmen Lezeth: Okay, rick, what about you Swimming with sharks?
- 31:01Carmen Lezeth: Maybe?
- 31:03Rick Costa: I also actually like dolphins a lot because they're so flipping, smart, but controlled environment.
- 31:09Rick Costa: I ain't going in the middle of the ocean with no dolphins.
- 31:11Cynthia Ruiz: No, thank you, no, thank you.
- 31:13Rick Costa: No, sorry, no, ma'am, no, no, no, yeah, water and me?
- 31:17Rick Costa: No, thank you.
- 31:20Rick Costa: No, unless it's in the shower, no, which is another reason why I'd amuse me.
- 31:26Rick Costa: Parks, if they have a water park.
- 31:27Rick Costa: No, I just know, even though that's controlled.
- 31:31Rick Costa: But still, me getting suddenly wet anybody that knows me just ticks me off, ruins my day, really makes me mad.
- 31:38Rick Costa: Don't make me go out in the storm and rain.
- 31:40Rick Costa: I will be so pissed.
- 31:42Rick Costa: Don't let gang suddenly wet.
- 31:44Rick Costa: I'll do rollercoasters, I'll do anything upside down, flip me up anywhere you want to, but don't put me out of water ride.
- 31:50Rick Costa: No, sir.
- 31:51Andrea Nunez: Oh my gosh, the wicked witch on Wizard of Oz.
- 31:53Andrea Nunez: You're like yeah.
- 31:55Rick Costa: Exactly, Exactly, but the last time they had I forgot what it's called, but it's like a pool but they have these huge waves that they make in the pool, of the wave pool, yeah.
- 32:05Rick Costa: And actually went into that and they were like Rick, I can't believe you're in here and I'm like I know.
- 32:11Cynthia Ruiz: I'm like I tried something.
- 32:12Cynthia Ruiz: I'm actually scared of that.
- 32:13Cynthia Ruiz: I don't go up to my waist in the wave pool.
- 32:17Rick Costa: Yeah, I went to the wave pool.
- 32:18Carmen Lezeth: I don't know what that is.
- 32:20Cynthia Ruiz: So it's this really big pool area and every so often there's a wave that starts at the end and it starts off huge and everybody always wants to go and just jump the waves and it's yeah, it's a kind of dangerous.
- 32:35Carmen Lezeth: The main impact would wave in a pool.
- 32:36Carmen Lezeth: Yes, yeah.
- 32:38Rick Costa: But it's like huge, so you're like bobbing up and down as the water.
- 32:41Rick Costa: Yeah.
- 32:44Carmen Lezeth: But it's in a pool.
- 32:45Rick Costa: It's huge, right yeah.
- 32:46Andrea Nunez: Not the ocean.
- 32:48Joy Gouge: None of that.
- 32:49Andrea Nunez: It's like to give you the feeling of being at the beach without the sand.
- 32:53Andrea Nunez: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:57Rick Costa: Hand gliding.
- 32:57Rick Costa: I would try that, nope.
- 33:00Carmen Lezeth: I would try that.
- 33:00Carmen Lezeth: Too long, too slow.
- 33:02Andrea Nunez: See, that's funny.
- 33:02Andrea Nunez: Our things are in the air and the sea, or the water, I guess, maybe not the sea.
- 33:09Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, and Jared, would you do the swimming with dolphins Hell?
- 33:12Andrea Nunez: no, I don't like fish.
- 33:13Andrea Nunez: I don't even want to go to the sea.
- 33:16Rick Costa: They're not fish, they're mammals.
- 33:18Andrea Nunez: Whatever.
- 33:18Andrea Nunez: I don't like fish, I will swim in the ocean.
- 33:23Andrea Nunez: I don't mind that, but I won't go too far out, but I don't want to be touching water.
- 33:31Carmen Lezeth: Do you cook fish?
- 33:32Carmen Lezeth: I've never known you cook fish.
- 33:33Carmen Lezeth: No I love that about you.
- 33:39Andrea Nunez: I will eat it at a restaurant some, not all, but I don't want the smell of it in my house and I just think it's, I don't know, they creep me out.
- 33:47Carmen Lezeth: Melanie said I'd rather do a water ride than a roller coaster.
- 33:52Rick Costa: She's opposite, she's opposite.
- 33:54Andrea Nunez: You guys don't want to be upset.
- 33:56Rick Costa: I love a roller coaster.
- 33:58Carmen Lezeth: Roller coaster or water ride Joy.
- 34:02Joy Gouge: Oh god those.
- 34:06Andrea Nunez: You're just one here, I love roller coasters, love them.
- 34:14Carmen Lezeth: You know what I was going to say.
- 34:15Carmen Lezeth: The ones where you have the harness that comes over your head and, like those, make me claustrophobic.
- 34:21Carmen Lezeth: And you know, most of them are that now, like I'm used to the old rickety ones where we were all going to fall out Remember we were going to have to do a little tiny bar.
- 34:31Rick Costa: Just a bar and that's it 80s kids.
- 34:35Carmen Lezeth: we really did not.
- 34:36Carmen Lezeth: We were not very well protected.
- 34:42Rick Costa: And yet we survived.
- 34:43Carmen Lezeth: And yet we survived.
- 34:44Carmen Lezeth: We didn't have to eat else.
- 34:45Carmen Lezeth: Remember that.
- 34:47Rick Costa: Oh yeah.
- 34:49Carmen Lezeth: OK, wait, Do you remember?
- 34:50Carmen Lezeth: Ok, I don't know about you guys, but when I was growing up, you'd walk into somebody's house and everybody was smoking.
- 34:56Carmen Lezeth: They'd talk to you and they'd be like smoke in your face.
- 35:01Carmen Lezeth: Now, if somebody's smoking a mile from it and I do this all the time because I'm ex-smoker I'm like, oh, I'm going to get cancer.
- 35:12Carmen Lezeth: It's horrible, You're leaving me 80s kids.
- 35:16Carmen Lezeth: We didn't really.
- 35:17Carmen Lezeth: We really had it different.
- 35:19Carmen Lezeth: Oh yeah, You're a feral.
- 35:22Carmen Lezeth: What did you say?
- 35:24Carmen Lezeth: I said we were feral.
- 35:25Carmen Lezeth: I don't know what feral means.
- 35:27Andrea Nunez: What does that mean?
- 35:28Andrea Nunez: Like a wild cat, you know what I mean.
- 35:30Andrea Nunez: They say a feral cat.
- 35:32Andrea Nunez: You're just out on your own trying to survive.
- 35:38Carmen Lezeth: But you know what, I don't ever remember seeing it that way, but when you look back you realize you really were yeah Well, you don't see it that way, because that's just your life.
- 35:48Andrea Nunez: When you look back and you're like, oh, what was the reason you never know writing our bikes until midnight, I don't know.
- 35:57Carmen Lezeth: We used to play.
- 35:58Carmen Lezeth: This is how I knew we were out late at night.
- 36:01Carmen Lezeth: We used to play something called flashlight tag, which means it had to be dark out.
- 36:08Carmen Lezeth: We all had flashlights and it'd be the same thing.
- 36:11Carmen Lezeth: But then you would have to go find people, You'd have to put the beam of light on them and then they'd be it and everybody would be on rooftops under cars.
- 36:20Carmen Lezeth: We'd be climbing trees and I'm like, oh my god, if any of the kids in my life would do that now, I'd be like, are you crazy?
- 36:28Carmen Lezeth: But it would be 9, 10 o'clock at night.
- 36:31Carmen Lezeth: Anthony just said every 80s kid either stood up in the front of their mother and father's car or rode jammed pack in the back of the station wagon.
- 36:42Cynthia Ruiz: The station wagon, yes, the station wagon Head of the truck right.
- 36:46Rick Costa: Dangle in my feet at the back of the car.
- 36:47Rick Costa: Head of the truck.
- 36:48Carmen Lezeth: Oh, come on Right on the pickup truck, what other crazy 80s things do you remember that you would especially the parents in the room and the God grandparents I think that's all of you except me right that we do that you wouldn't let your kids do or your nieces and nephews do.
- 37:06Rick Costa: What was that thing that spun around?
- 37:07Rick Costa: And you just held on to it for dear life.
- 37:10Rick Costa: And they spin like crazy, like the playground.
- 37:14Cynthia Ruiz: I don't think they would fly those anymore.
- 37:16Rick Costa: They don't fly?
- 37:17Cynthia Ruiz: I wouldn't fly today.
- 37:18Carmen Lezeth: Well, I'm shocked that they have those cushion things at the playgrounds.
- 37:21Carmen Lezeth: You know, when you walk on the floor of a playground, it's like a gymnastics floor, it's all cushion.
- 37:26Cynthia Ruiz: Yeah, you like bounce.
- 37:28Carmen Lezeth: I'm like what the hell is this?
- 37:29Carmen Lezeth: And then, like the bottom was like it's so that the kids don't hurt themselves.
- 37:34Rick Costa: I'm like and now they don't want metal slides, they want plastic.
- 37:38Rick Costa: So you don't burn your butt, I guess, or whatever.
- 37:40Carmen Lezeth: Ooh I used to have them skin burns when you wore the cords, but isn't that?
- 37:45Carmen Lezeth: How Look?
- 37:46Carmen Lezeth: I'm not saying kids should be hurt, but isn't that part of learning?
- 37:50Andrea Nunez: Yes, well, I've talked about this a million times with you, carmen just like the inability of kids today are not able to make decisions for themselves.
- 38:02Andrea Nunez: They have like almost zero independence, and I actually read this whole study about how that could be, in addition to certain other things happening nowadays, part of what leads to like these skyrocketing depression and things like that, and just the ways people think about kids now, how they're, the way they are in the workplace, like they just we were out making decisions for ourselves what we wanted to eat, when we wanted to eat, who we wanted to hang out with, when we wanted to leave, what we wanted to play.
- 38:32Andrea Nunez: I mean, we were making all of those decisions for ourselves at a very young age and kids now do not even have an opportunity to do something like that.
- 38:44Cynthia Ruiz: But the difference is, I think back then, even though we made all those decisions, we still had respect for our elders.
- 38:50Cynthia Ruiz: These kids nowadays can't make a decision and have no respect for their elders.
- 38:56Joy Gouge: Exactly.
- 38:57Joy Gouge: Go ahead, joy, explain no, you're right.
- 39:00Joy Gouge: You're right, I mean, granted, I'll have in the number one, most crime written area in America.
- 39:08Joy Gouge: We got that title and you see it every day in Memphis about there's no respect.
- 39:18Cynthia Ruiz: None.
- 39:19Joy Gouge: Wow.
- 39:19Joy Gouge: No respect for themselves, no respect for the elderly, nothing.
- 39:25Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, the whole elderly thing is weird to me.
- 39:27Carmen Lezeth: Let me just answer something Melanie just wrote.
- 39:30Carmen Lezeth: Melanie said we would play flashlight tag in a fenced-in yard.
- 39:34Carmen Lezeth: We didn't have a yard, but I hear you, I got you and yeah, it was a merry-go-round at the playground.
- 39:42Carmen Lezeth: That's exactly what it was, Melanie.
- 39:43Carmen Lezeth: I think that's what it was called.
- 39:44Rick Costa: The world was our yard.
- 39:48Andrea Nunez: Her yard was a football block.
- 39:50Carmen Lezeth: I'm shocked by the lack of respect for the elders, but I will admit that I made a mistake with one of my clients.
- 40:00Carmen Lezeth: So one of my clients is originally from Texas.
- 40:03Carmen Lezeth: I handle a lot of properties that they own in Texas or whatever, and one of the things that's really great about her is that the way she raises her kids is they have to say yes, ma'am, no ma'am, and it's really refreshing.
- 40:16Carmen Lezeth: I'll just be honest, it's weird.
- 40:18Carmen Lezeth: When I first met them and I walked into the house and they call me Ms Carmen and they say yes, ma'am, no ma'am or whatever.
- 40:25Carmen Lezeth: And the first time one of the kids said it to me I said oh, you don't have to say ma'am.
- 40:29Carmen Lezeth: And my client came running over no, he does.
- 40:33Carmen Lezeth: It was really interesting because here I was kind of poo-pooing the whole ma'am the ma'am thing because I feel old if somebody says that.
- 40:42Carmen Lezeth: And then what my client told me was like I'm from down south, my kids will always be respectful, they will always say that, and it's so refreshing and now I realize that's actually an honor, like I love what they call me Ms Carmen and I get it.
- 40:57Carmen Lezeth: I think there's also something to it that I'm not saying that kids are at fault for not respecting.
- 41:03Carmen Lezeth: I think their parents are not teaching them that.
- 41:06Carmen Lezeth: But we also kind of push away this thing about becoming elders right, like this is weird thing, like we all have to be cool and hip I'm doing air quotes, hip or whatever and not fall into that category.
- 41:20Carmen Lezeth: So I feel bad, cause I think this generation doesn't get to make those decisions because again, not a parent, but I'm gonna throw this out there they're sheltered from day one.
- 41:32Carmen Lezeth: You don't let them go outside and play.
- 41:34Carmen Lezeth: You create play dates.
- 41:36Carmen Lezeth: You don't let them take chances.
- 41:39Carmen Lezeth: Or I had someone the other day on TikTok make a comment about what do you mean?
- 41:45Carmen Lezeth: You used to drink out of the hose.
- 41:46Carmen Lezeth: I'm like what are you confused by?
- 41:49Carmen Lezeth: You would get in the middle of it.
- 41:52Carmen Lezeth: Somebody had a hose and you'd be thirsty, you'd drink some water.
- 41:55Carmen Lezeth: They were like oh no, I would never, I would never.
- 42:01Carmen Lezeth: We were thirsty, we drank out of the hose, somebody's you know garden or whatever, and I say that loosely in the streets of Boston, but you know what I mean.
- 42:11Carmen Lezeth: I'm not blaming parents.
- 42:15Carmen Lezeth: I think it's just the world we live in and that's why I think kids gravitate towards the internet so much, cause that's kind of their playground.
- 42:23Carmen Lezeth: And it leads me to the next question I had, which I told you all.
- 42:27Carmen Lezeth: I wrote a blog post this past week.
- 42:29Carmen Lezeth: I don't know if y'all had a chance to read it, but I should probably tell people.
- 42:33Carmen Lezeth: So I have two websites all about the joys.
- 42:36Carmen Lezeth: One website which is just kind of our clips and is more of a place where I just kind of put stuff that's happening.
- 42:41Carmen Lezeth: But for over 20 years I've had my own website, which is carmenlesetcom or carmenswarscom, and every week I post a blog.
- 42:48Carmen Lezeth: That's probably a little bit, as I was called, spicier, spicier and then what you hear here.
- 42:57Carmen Lezeth: But one of the things I talked about in that blog post was I wonder if the disconnect between my generation which I think is everyone in this room Gen X and maybe millennials and Gen Z, is this different idea of how we use the internet Like to me.
- 43:15Carmen Lezeth: In the blog post I wrote, the internet is just a tool.
- 43:18Carmen Lezeth: It's not my everyday life.
- 43:20Carmen Lezeth: I can live without the internet.
- 43:22Carmen Lezeth: It is just something I use to do things.
- 43:26Carmen Lezeth: It's kind of like to me, no different than a microwave or a television set.
- 43:30Carmen Lezeth: It's just another thing in the toolbox that I own.
- 43:34Carmen Lezeth: But my question was is it possible that millennials and Gen Z that other generations the internet is there every day.
- 43:44Carmen Lezeth: It's them walking outside.
- 43:46Carmen Lezeth: It's like us walking outside, growing up and hanging out For them.
- 43:50Carmen Lezeth: This is their reality and maybe that's where the disconnect is.
- 43:55Carmen Lezeth: I'm just asking.
- 43:58Rick Costa: Like little kids can't even fathom that there didn't used to be an internet Like what you had.
- 44:03Rick Costa: No internet Like it's barbaric or something.
- 44:07Andrea Nunez: Yeah, not even little kids.
- 44:08Andrea Nunez: I mean people in their 20s may have no experience of life without the internet or even social media really in their memory.
- 44:20Cynthia Ruiz: So I think that makes a lot of sense that they're just made out of it and they're gonna allow that social skill of actually meeting someone talking to them.
- 44:29Cynthia Ruiz: Everything is just on the computer, on their phones.
- 44:36Carmen Lezeth: Joy, what do you think about it?
- 44:38Joy Gouge: No, I agree, because there's no personal skills, there's no true interaction and for a lot of times, when there's interaction between young kids, it's either bullying, it's either cyber stalking it's crazy, and I'm talking about like fifth and sixth grade kids.
- 45:06Joy Gouge: Yeah, and it's sad.
- 45:09Joy Gouge: It really is sad, because when you see a lot of kids and not all kids are like this please not trying to label all kids as like but in even like 20 somethings, they don't know how to interact with people.
- 45:26Joy Gouge: Yeah, you know, they just don't and it's sad.
- 45:31Carmen Lezeth: Well, I think that had a lot to do with.
- 45:33Carmen Lezeth: I'm just gonna shout out and say that Melanie said that she used to drink from the sink as well as the hose.
- 45:39Carmen Lezeth: What do you mean?
- 45:40Carmen Lezeth: The sink?
- 45:40Carmen Lezeth: Oh, we would just drink water from the sink.
- 45:43Rick Costa: Yeah, because today people are like ew.
- 45:45Carmen Lezeth: Oh yeah, that's right.
- 45:47Carmen Lezeth: I didn't think about that.
- 45:47Carmen Lezeth: That's right.
- 45:48Andrea Nunez: Nobody drinks from the sink.
- 45:49Andrea Nunez: Well, nobody drinks, they're sink water maybe it's a toilet water.
- 45:51Andrea Nunez: You know what I'm talking about.
- 45:54Carmen Lezeth: It's not the water.
- 45:54Carmen Lezeth: Right here.
- 45:54Carmen Lezeth: I was thinking that maybe, you know, I think that might be a lot of the disconnect between my understanding like people are having full on relationships, romantic relationship, they have best friends they've never met, I you know, up until I started thinking about it, especially from what happened last week on the show.
- 46:15Carmen Lezeth: That's why I started thinking about this and I was just completely thrown by this concept that I'm best friends with somebody or that I'm supposed to be something with somebody, with people I've never even met or had any type of relationship with.
- 46:31Carmen Lezeth: And and Andrea, you and I had dinner and we were that's kind of where, this kind of square drug having this conversation with you, and I wonder if it's even fair Like it's probably not fair to tell people go meet people in person Cause they, for them, that's their world, their world is actually getting up every day and getting online and that's them going outside.
- 46:55Carmen Lezeth: Does that make sense?
- 46:56Carmen Lezeth: That's how.
- 46:58Andrea Nunez: I'm saying it, yeah, yeah, that's not the world they grew up in, right, even what I was talking about, like they didn't grow up in a world where you go outside to play with the neighborhood kids and you know we can look at all of the different reasons.
- 47:12Andrea Nunez: That almost doesn't matter at this point, cause that's just not what happened, mm-hmm Right.
- 47:18Carmen Lezeth: So but does that make us our situation better and there's worse, like are we losing something with everything they've gained?
- 47:27Andrea Nunez: I mean, maybe, maybe not.
- 47:29Andrea Nunez: Right Time will tell, I suppose.
- 47:31Andrea Nunez: But like it's just different, you know they have skills we don't have.
- 47:36Carmen Lezeth: Exactly.
- 47:36Carmen Lezeth: Well, that's the big one.
- 47:37Carmen Lezeth: And let me just read what Anthony just wrote.
- 47:41Carmen Lezeth: He said is that US?
- 47:44Andrea Nunez: or us, us the net savvy and tech nerds.
- 47:46Andrea Nunez: All right, keep going.
- 47:48Andrea Nunez: Have it attributed to the way kids are?
- 47:50Andrea Nunez: When I was a kid, this was new and it was like revenge of the nerds or war games.
- 47:56Andrea Nunez: We've made it the normal, making it a double-edged sword.
- 47:59Andrea Nunez: Yeah, oh, good point, it's a really good point.
- 48:01Andrea Nunez: Great movie war games by the way I could watch that not that long ago.
- 48:06Carmen Lezeth: Yeah that's a great movie, since we can talk about movies.
- 48:08Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, I think I'm excited.
- 48:11Rick Costa: I heard somebody say like if you want to punish your kid, don't say go to your room, just turn off your router.
- 48:18Cynthia Ruiz: Yeah, yeah turn off your router.
- 48:21Carmen Lezeth: I think there's something to this idea.
- 48:24Carmen Lezeth: And then you know, look it, I'm always open to changing and look it.
- 48:27Carmen Lezeth: I'm not just talking about kids, we're talking about 30-year-olds.
- 48:29Carmen Lezeth: So let's be very clear, we're talking about millennials here.
- 48:32Carmen Lezeth: That's what I'm.
- 48:33Carmen Lezeth: I think kids I'm just going to be straight up Gen Z kids like my goddaughter, juliana, are actually in a lot of ways and Andrea, you can tell me, isabella is the same way, but kind of just, there's a lot of rejection of technology and there's a lot of embracing of what they think the 80s were like right, like they all have turntables.
- 48:57Carmen Lezeth: They all think we lived in like friends, like in big apartments in New York and we all hung out at the car.
- 49:03Carmen Lezeth: Now, in a lot of ways, she's not wrong, you know what I mean but I see a lot of rejection to like she won't wear labels and, rick, you and I were talking about this at one show Like we were all about, like Nike Jordash, to the point, and so I really want to be clear.
- 49:20Carmen Lezeth: I feel like there's a and it's not all people like Joy, how you said, it's not everyone, but I'm talking about older people who are in the 30s and 40s who are really kind of, maybe in that mesh of being involved with the internet in such a way that I actually do think is unhealthy, right.
- 49:42Carmen Lezeth: And yet I see what the brilliance of.
- 49:45Carmen Lezeth: I would have never met Joy or Rick or Ted Hicks or Melanie or Anthony Davis if it wasn't for the internet, right, like.
- 49:54Carmen Lezeth: And when I say meet, I mean having these conversations and just having the ability to connect with people in other countries.
- 50:00Carmen Lezeth: And you know, I mean I have so many quote unquote friends.
- 50:03Carmen Lezeth: I think about Nazim, who I saw on Facebook today, and you know so they're a great benefit, but I wonder if there's more harm being done because of the lack of ability to have an interaction in person.
- 50:19Carmen Lezeth: Maybe I'm wrong.
- 50:21Andrea Nunez: I mean, that's what we're designed for, right Like humans want that interaction.
- 50:27Andrea Nunez: It's a very natural, animalistic thing.
- 50:29Carmen Lezeth: I mean, I really believe that, and so yeah, but is that different if you do it online versus in person?
- 50:34Andrea Nunez: Yeah, I do think it is.
- 50:36Andrea Nunez: So I do think something lost, you know.
- 50:39Carmen Lezeth: I'm going to argue with you.
- 50:40Carmen Lezeth: I'm going to say what does it matter if it's in person or not, like I just?
- 50:44Carmen Lezeth: I mean.
- 50:45Andrea Nunez: I really can't say like put my finger on it, but like you and I can have our phone.
- 50:50Andrea Nunez: You know, I'll just use us as an example.
- 50:51Andrea Nunez: Right, we can meet here online and we can have our phone calls, but there's something different about, I would say, the way both of us feel when we have a chance to get actually together in person.
- 51:06Carmen Lezeth: you know, Right, but we met before the interwebs was a thing, right?
- 51:11Carmen Lezeth: Well, I can't?
- 51:12Andrea Nunez: I mean, if that's the criteria, then I can speak to it, because I don't know what it's like to be here, right?
- 51:17Andrea Nunez: No, no, no.
- 51:18Carmen Lezeth: But that's kind of my point right?
- 51:19Carmen Lezeth: My point is someone who's grown up with having the internet as their way of having interactions on a regular basis.
- 51:26Carmen Lezeth: Does that make their relationship less real?
- 51:30Carmen Lezeth: Because they're never gonna meet another.
- 51:33Andrea Nunez: I'm not in their mind, I wouldn't think, but, as you were saying in my mind, maybe it does right.
- 51:41Andrea Nunez: Maybe I'm judging, I have never met Rick.
- 51:46Carmen Lezeth: I've never met Joy.
- 51:47Carmen Lezeth: Does that mean that my relationship is less important or less of substance because I haven't met them in person?
- 51:56Carmen Lezeth: Is the question.
- 51:57Carmen Lezeth: It's something I'm grappling with.
- 51:59Carmen Lezeth: I think, it depends on each person.
- 52:01Carmen Lezeth: So you're saying Joy is the better person, so that's a good relationship, but Rick sucks.
- 52:06Carmen Lezeth: So yeah, yeah.
- 52:11Rick Costa: I'm just kidding, In my Facebook memories today there's this woman that she was kind of big on the Periscope days and all that stuff too, Very motivational type personality and everybody loved her, whatever.
- 52:22Rick Costa: And so we talked, we liked each other, whatever.
- 52:25Rick Costa: And then she goes.
- 52:26Rick Costa: You know what?
- 52:26Rick Costa: I'm gonna be in Massachusetts, but I'm gonna be in Connecticut to airport because I'm going to Bradley.
- 52:32Rick Costa: She goes.
- 52:32Rick Costa: You wanted me.
- 52:33Rick Costa: I was like heck, yeah, let's go, let's meet.
- 52:34Rick Costa: And so we did and I have pictures and everything.
- 52:36Rick Costa: We met up but like nothing changed.
- 52:40Rick Costa: Like just because I met her in person, it's still nothing changed.
- 52:43Rick Costa: We're still like each other, the same, equally.
- 52:45Rick Costa: Nothing really changed just because I met her in person.
- 52:47Rick Costa: I'm just, that's the case with Rick anyway.
- 52:51Carmen Lezeth: So you would say, based on that example possibly, that whether it's in person or meeting online, it's the same thing.
- 53:00Rick Costa: It can be.
- 53:03Carmen Lezeth: Melanie says every generation has things that the previous generation didn't have.
- 53:06Carmen Lezeth: Who wants to live in pre-industrial revolutionary days?
- 53:10Carmen Lezeth: This is what I'm talking about, melanie keeping that bar up, girl.
- 53:15Carmen Lezeth: That's incredible.
- 53:15Carmen Lezeth: It's a great point.
- 53:18Carmen Lezeth: It's a great point.
- 53:20Rick Costa: And something that would be interesting to talk about maybe too one day is how much would our lives, each of us, be upended and thrown upside down if suddenly something happened in the world and there was no internet?
- 53:32Andrea Nunez: I said I think about that all the time In a bad way.
- 53:35Carmen Lezeth: I think that would be a great thing.
- 53:38Andrea Nunez: I do too, but it would be a rough couple of weeks.
- 53:43Rick Costa: For the kids especially.
- 53:44Carmen Lezeth: My kids would be trust Parents of kids.
- 53:47Carmen Lezeth: Michael just said I believe you can have a connection with someone on the net.
- 53:52Carmen Lezeth: Love frequencies can be felt from great distances.
- 53:55Carmen Lezeth: That's fair enough.
- 53:57Carmen Lezeth: I look at.
- 53:59Carmen Lezeth: I'm gonna start wrapping this up because I did talk to Ted and his show is gonna.
- 54:02Carmen Lezeth: He's like I said we'll get off so he can have a show at 7.15 or whatever.
- 54:08Carmen Lezeth: But here's the thing.
- 54:09Carmen Lezeth: I'm a little old school.
- 54:13Carmen Lezeth: I really believe there is something different to meeting someone in person.
- 54:18Carmen Lezeth: I am gonna try to be more open to the idea that some people for me it's also the romantic relationship thing that's killing me.
- 54:28Carmen Lezeth: Maybe that's a more detailed conversation to have Can you have a romantic relationship with someone who you've never met?
- 54:39Carmen Lezeth: And that's kind of like that.
- 54:40Carmen Lezeth: Some people believe that they can.
- 54:41Carmen Lezeth: I guess so, but that's the one that's harder for me.
- 54:44Carmen Lezeth: Do I think Joy and Rick would still be good friends if I met them in person?
- 54:48Carmen Lezeth: Of course I don't think that would not be, because I feel like I'm getting to know that.
- 54:52Carmen Lezeth: But could I meet someone online Like to me?
- 54:55Carmen Lezeth: Okay, this is what I said today to somebody I was talking on the phone.
- 54:58Carmen Lezeth: I said I have always been in love with, let's say, indiana Jones.
- 55:03Carmen Lezeth: Right, because that's you and everybody knows I.
- 55:05Carmen Lezeth: Indiana Jones, that's my man, right there, that's my man.
- 55:08Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean.
- 55:08Carmen Lezeth: The actor is 80 something years old today.
- 55:12Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean.
- 55:13Carmen Lezeth: Like, the reality of who he is is not the character he portrays to be.
- 55:20Carmen Lezeth: Do you see what I'm saying?
- 55:22Joy Gouge: Like to me when I think of me and to show catfish.
- 55:25Joy Gouge: Exactly, show catfish.
- 55:29Cynthia Ruiz: Oh, so catfish is basically people who have met other people online and they so-called have fallen in love with them, and the other person on the other line is not who they really are.
- 55:40Carmen Lezeth: Oh yeah, that's a scam.
- 55:41Carmen Lezeth: That's a scam.
- 55:42Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, Mike said.
- 55:43Carmen Lezeth: Many people meet on the net and end up getting met.
- 55:47Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, I don't have a problem with that, but they actually meet each other.
- 55:50Carmen Lezeth: What we're talking about when you've never met anyone, Michael.
- 55:53Carmen Lezeth: I totally hear you, Anthony.
- 55:55Carmen Lezeth: The internet has helped people meet that they would have never met in real life.
- 55:59Carmen Lezeth: But if all of this were to be destroyed, it would throw us back into the era of the 1950s and maybe even now, Absolutely.
- 56:06Carmen Lezeth: And let me be clear what I'm talking about.
- 56:08Carmen Lezeth: I think the internet as a tool to meet new people is brilliant.
- 56:13Carmen Lezeth: I'm not against.
- 56:14Carmen Lezeth: I love social media, I love the internet and I love that I've met all these people.
- 56:18Carmen Lezeth: But eventually I would think I would meet people in person, especially if I'm in love with them, Right, If I'm having a romance.
- 56:26Carmen Lezeth: That's where it gets a little weird for me, and I hope to someday meet.
- 56:31Carmen Lezeth: Well, Rick and I are going to Portugal.
- 56:33Carmen Lezeth: He said it once.
- 56:34Carmen Lezeth: I'm holding him to it.
- 56:35Carmen Lezeth: Look at, he's like what?
- 56:42Rick Costa: Yeah, it's right on my passport.
- 56:46Carmen Lezeth: Well, look, it's something to think about.
- 56:47Carmen Lezeth: I really appreciate it.
- 56:48Carmen Lezeth: The last thing I want to talk about we have a few minutes, and this is really to two people, so I'm going to start with Rick and then I'm going to go with Andrea, and then I'm going to go with Joy and then I'm going to go with Cynthia.
- 57:00Carmen Lezeth: When is it appropriate to put up a Christmas tree, if that is your thing?
- 57:07Cynthia Ruiz: OK.
- 57:07Carmen Lezeth: Rick, why don't you start us off baby?
- 57:11Rick Costa: I mean, it's definitely an individual thing.
- 57:12Rick Costa: Everybody's different about it.
- 57:13Rick Costa: Some people have an attitude of I can listen to Christmas music all year round, and other people are like, no, it's just during the Christmas season.
- 57:20Rick Costa: Me, I feel like wait till we get past Thanksgiving and then go crazy.
- 57:27Rick Costa: Before that I'm like it's a little bit early, but you do you.
- 57:32Joy Gouge: Andrea your thoughts.
- 57:35Andrea Nunez: After Thanksgiving for sure, without a doubt for me, and I would even lean towards maybe like get into December.
- 57:42Andrea Nunez: Really that's interesting Like a beat yeah yeah, like December.
- 57:47Andrea Nunez: Have it be an actual separate holiday OK.
- 57:51Andrea Nunez: I hear you Living, take a beat Christmas.
- 57:54Andrea Nunez: Ok, go ahead, joy.
- 58:00Rick Costa: All right, sorry, and you're pointing perfectly at it.
- 58:07Rick Costa: Great job, joanie.
- 58:08Rick Costa: There's the answer, no words necessary.
- 58:17Joy Gouge: How long is this going?
- 58:18Carmen Lezeth: to take.
- 58:18Carmen Lezeth: Ok, we know, we got to get you back, we got to get you walking.
- 58:23Joy Gouge: She's going to show us how Go ahead you got to bring it.
- 58:26Joy Gouge: I'm still there, right, ok, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait wait, wait, wait, wait wait, wait, wait, wait, because it's too high up.
- 58:33Carmen Lezeth: We're looking at the ceiling a little bit more.
- 58:35Carmen Lezeth: Ok, good, now go around the room.
- 58:37Joy Gouge: so we can oh that actually looks pretty though OK here's my little one.
- 58:40Joy Gouge: I'm not finished with yet.
- 58:42Carmen Lezeth: I've got all this.
- 58:43Carmen Lezeth: Oh my gosh, you got the garland up.
- 58:45Carmen Lezeth: Ok, bring it down again.
- 58:46Carmen Lezeth: We can't really see.
- 58:47Carmen Lezeth: We're seeing the ceiling.
- 58:48Carmen Lezeth: Ok, got it.
- 58:49Carmen Lezeth: Wow, girl, when am I present?
- 58:51Joy Gouge: You have Joy Right now.
- 58:53Joy Gouge: Just take it on.
- 58:54Joy Gouge: I've got one little one.
- 58:55Joy Gouge: How?
- 58:55Andrea Nunez: many are you going to have by the end of this decorating situation?
- 59:00Andrea Nunez: I'm not sure.
- 59:03Carmen Lezeth: So cute Is my present there.
- 59:05Carmen Lezeth: It's a big.
- 59:08Carmen Lezeth: I see you didn't let us see the bottom of the tree because I was going to put the car in my place.
- 59:13Rick Costa: She didn't wrap it yet.
- 59:14Cynthia Ruiz: It's not really feeling me and Joy are on the same page.
- 59:18Carmen Lezeth: I thought I went the way I went, ok, but I think Joy has you be.
- 59:22Carmen Lezeth: But go ahead, cynthia, why?
- 59:23Rick Costa: aren't you, cynthia, about to turn her phone around?
- 59:27Carmen Lezeth: That's OK.
- 59:27Carmen Lezeth: You did it good.
- 59:28Carmen Lezeth: It's perfect, cynthia.
- 59:30Cynthia Ruiz: So usually November 1st, I put up my tree right after Thanksgiving.
- 59:35Cynthia Ruiz: I didn't do it this time because last weekend I was sick, so it's going to go up this weekend.
- 59:43Andrea Nunez: Oh goodness, Are you like it's so?
- 59:46Cynthia Ruiz: I'm so itching to put it up.
- 59:48Carmen Lezeth: I mean, I put that question on here because I saw Joy post it on Facebook.
- 59:53Carmen Lezeth: I was like this is the.
- 59:55Carmen Lezeth: I loved it.
- 59:59Carmen Lezeth: I loved it.
- 1:00:00Carmen Lezeth: It was so good.
- 1:00:01Carmen Lezeth: Oh, you're in there, you're into it, you know what.
- 1:00:05Carmen Lezeth: Here's the thing.
- 1:00:06Carmen Lezeth: I was going to tell you guys what my theory is, and I don't think it's a bad thing.
- 1:00:09Carmen Lezeth: I think the thing about Christmas, whether you are religious or not and I can say pretty easily with Andrea and myself hey, ted, I'm a word, we're jumping off on time the day after Halloween, but it needs to be taken down before that's what Ted just said in the comments.
- 1:00:30Carmen Lezeth: I think the reason why you know people like Christmas is because of joy, and I don't mean my friend Joy, I mean because it elicits happiness and joy and it's like we crave that so much.
- 1:00:46Carmen Lezeth: But I think it's actually a sad thing.
- 1:00:48Carmen Lezeth: Right, we have to put up Christmas and I'm not saying we have to, but I think that's what it is and it's getting earlier and earlier every year.
- 1:00:56Carmen Lezeth: So I want to find joy somehow in Halloween or in like fourth of July or something.
- 1:01:03Carmen Lezeth: Well, I'm lucky because I have a friend who was born on the fourth of July, so we can have joy on his birthday.
- 1:01:09Carmen Lezeth: It's actually Joe Lava who we had on the show his birthday on July 4th.
- 1:01:14Carmen Lezeth: Let me see.
- 1:01:14Carmen Lezeth: Anthony just said we have a rule about the Christmas tree in our house.
- 1:01:18Carmen Lezeth: We put it up between December 10th to December 16th.
- 1:01:22Carmen Lezeth: I think that's normal baby, because my brother's birthday is on December 15th.
- 1:01:26Carmen Lezeth: To take it down then take it down is always on January 2nd or 3rd.
- 1:01:31Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, having a birthday during that time period makes you have to change the game a bit.
- 1:01:35Carmen Lezeth: Could it be all about the joy and Tony is trying to promote the show, but?
- 1:01:46Carmen Lezeth: But so I'm going to close this off a little bit and move us through and move on to making sure we go check out Ted's show.
- 1:01:54Carmen Lezeth: Thank you everyone For stopping.
- 1:01:56Carmen Lezeth: Can I just say no, no, no.
- 1:02:00Cynthia Ruiz: OK, I'm so bummed that I can't see joy.
- 1:02:04Cynthia Ruiz: I want to see all her Christmas stuff.
- 1:02:08Cynthia Ruiz: You can see it.
- 1:02:11Rick Costa: Oh man.
- 1:02:12Carmen Lezeth: Right, you cannot see joy.
- 1:02:14Carmen Lezeth: You still can't see her.
- 1:02:16Carmen Lezeth: All you see is a.
- 1:02:18Rick Costa: Oh, I bet, when you open Joyce door, a stereo kick sign.
- 1:02:21Rick Costa: All I want, a lot for.
- 1:02:22Cynthia Ruiz: Christmas.
- 1:02:25Andrea Nunez: That's your doorbell.
- 1:02:27Carmen Lezeth: I was good you brought it back.
- 1:02:28Carmen Lezeth: I forgot about that whole thing at the beginning.
- 1:02:30Carmen Lezeth: But, yeah, you haven't been able to enjoy.
- 1:02:32Carmen Lezeth: But you know, until the very end you'll be able to go watch the replay, you'll be able to see her.
- 1:02:37Carmen Lezeth: But her Christmas stuff looks cool but she ain't even because what she she doesn't realize.
- 1:02:42Carmen Lezeth: We all noticed, right, she, she panned the camera and we can see that she started.
- 1:02:46Carmen Lezeth: She started to put some other stuff up like this, whatever.
- 1:02:51Carmen Lezeth: I saw that she got that place hooked up.
- 1:02:54Carmen Lezeth: So we'll see you again next time, joy, when you have it all full on.
- 1:02:58Joy Gouge: Cynthia frame me on Facebook.

- 1:03:20Carmen Lezeth: I know people don't think that's a big deal, but to me it's huge.
- 1:03:23Carmen Lezeth: And I don't know what happened the other day, but we got a whole bunch of new followers on the podcast.
- 1:03:29Rick Costa: Sassam Carmen came out.
- 1:03:33Carmen Lezeth: But anyway, thank you to everyone and I appreciate everyone's kindness and uplifting spirits about my family on the East Coast.
- 1:03:40Carmen Lezeth: I did go home for an unfortunate passing of one of our sisters, one of our favorite people, who died unexpectedly.
- 1:03:47Carmen Lezeth: So thank you for everyone who reached out and, yeah, everyone, we'll see you again next week and remember, it's all about the joy.
