- 2:04Speaker 1: Well, that is a major drop in the ball.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I was not ready for that, but I will be in a second, I'll just go right.
- 2:13Speaker 1: There we go.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Oh my god, music, wow.
- 2:19Speaker 1: What a way to end the 2024 season.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Here we go.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Yeah, working again.
- 2:42Speaker 1: And sorry for the delay, folks, you know I'm supposed to be.
- 2:48Speaker 1: You know I wear a cowboy hat.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I'm supposed to be monitoring it and I'm monitoring it right now, but after 55 seconds, for some reason, microphone gave out.
- 2:58Speaker 1: But that was just covering all.
- 3:00Speaker 1: We'll cover those at the end.
- 3:04Speaker 1: We're talking about Happy New Year, right?
- 3:06Speaker 1: And what does everybody do for Happy New Year?
- 3:08Speaker 1: There's always New Year's resolution.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I've heard of dry January and it's a time of month where people just don't drink for a month because they drank so much over the holidays and that type of thing don't drink for a month because they drank so much over the holidays, and that type of thing I'm looking at and it's more like this is something been my outlook all along is that I've always there's so much whiskey and bourbon in my possession I just have to take it easy, except for the times when I'm going out and about.
- 3:44Speaker 1: But even when I go out and about.
- 3:47Speaker 1: There's a certain aspect of being a podcast being professional.
- 3:51Speaker 1: You want to have some, you want to have fun, but you don't want to take it too far and, honestly, being in this industry, you've got to really respect and you kind of learn how to not take it too far.
- 4:09Speaker 1: So what really kind of will get you every once in a while is when you're emotional.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Sometimes you're emotional and your emotions can lead to maybe drinking a little bit too much one way or another.
- 4:23Speaker 1: But the thing of it is is you always got to keep it under control.
- 4:27Speaker 1: A lot of people I would say if you do have alcohol, you do have to keep it under control.
- 4:34Speaker 1: If you can't, you really just have to stop.
- 4:36Speaker 1: We don't promote anything that's bad for your health.
- 4:40Speaker 1: We don't promote anything that's bad for your health.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Whiskey and we've podcasted about this many times is healthy for you if you do it right.
- 4:50Speaker 1: There's a reason why it was the medicine before penicillin on this planet that everybody used.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Alcohol was used for sterilizing.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Whiskey was sterilized on the battlefield, excuse me, in the Civil War.
- 5:04Speaker 1: So there's so much stuff that whiskey can be, but you still have to respect it, and that's one thing over this past holiday.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I have completely.
- 5:15Speaker 1: I mean honestly.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I wanted to talk a little bit about Stacey Pritchard and Sarah Evans came up from Kentucky, bardstown, kentucky and Louisville, kentucky, and stayed at Gervasi.
- 5:29Speaker 1: We had at Gervasi Vineyards our Christmas party and there was about 30 people this year, which is a record to have 30 for the Christmas party is a record to have 30 for the Christmas party.
- 5:41Speaker 1: So with the Scotchy Bourbon Boys themselves, we had six actual cast members and then we had Walker, which would make seven, which helped out, but then we had about 23 other people come from all over, you know, from Northern Cleveland, come from all over, you know, from Northern Cleveland, southern, you know, from Cincinnati.
- 6:08Speaker 1: People came from you know we had people coming from everywhere and locally.
- 6:13Speaker 1: So it was a fantastic party.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I have to shout out to Matt Lison of Cleveland on the Rock Actually, I've got I think it's right back here.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I've got for Matt if he's watching, which I don't think he is yet, but I got him through Stacy Pritchard, she got us a nice larceny hat for Matt, so that's going to be cool.
- 6:33Speaker 1: And then people, his friends Aaron Conkle was there, his wife Casey, and then his friends.
- 6:44Speaker 1: I mean, it was just a whirlwind is what it was.
- 6:49Speaker 1: But that Super Nash came up from South Carolina on Thursday.
- 6:53Speaker 1: So I had Christmas Eve, christmas Day Thursday.
- 6:59Speaker 1: We went up to Cleveland on the Rocks and Matt and spent some time.
- 7:01Speaker 1: We shout out to Thomas at River Root.
- 7:04Speaker 1: He gave us an awesome barrel thieving tour which was spectacular, and then came back, finished smoking a brisket on Thursday, did our bookers of the year podcast.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Jimmy's batch, which is batch four, is our bookers of the year, which was pretty cool.
- 7:24Speaker 1: And then we basically got up the next morning Everybody was here and we did a 10 o'clock podcast, which was our holiday podcast, where we narrowed down all the bourbons of the years that everybody everybody's allowed to enter to.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Some overlapped.
- 7:41Speaker 1: So there was about 14 of them to narrow down to, which we narrowed down to five.
- 7:48Speaker 1: So of those five then we finished up that podcast of our holiday podcast, talking about the the year.
- 7:56Speaker 1: And we had ct.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Uh, whiskey was in the driveway but he was working because it was on a Friday, so he worked kind of cramped, his style.
- 8:07Speaker 1: And then we went to lunch at the Winking Lizard.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Shout out to the Winking Lizard.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Here in Northeast Ohio, the Winking Lizard is a great restaurant, great pours, great barrel picks, super place.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Went there for lunch, came back, did a 2.30 podcast and named our Bourbon of the Year.
- 8:25Speaker 1: I have not released that podcast on here so I'm not going to tell everybody what our Bourbon of the Year is yet, but if you watch live you know what our Bourbon of the Year is.
- 8:36Speaker 1: But that happened at 2.30.
- 8:37Speaker 1: We finished, we all had brisket that I had smoked the night before and some spadinis.
- 8:42Speaker 1: And then people started coming for the Christmas party.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Stacey and Sarah showed up right as we were serving the brisket.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I mean, it was just a nice dinner.
- 8:52Speaker 1: And then we went to Gervasi and a shout out to Sean, mike Alefferton and the ownership of Gervasi, the still house, but also a shout out to Shea Pride Moore.
- 9:05Speaker 1: He is the master distiller there.
- 9:07Speaker 1: He came to the party and gave us a tour of the distillery right there during the Christmas party.
- 9:15Speaker 1: So that added a little special thing to it, everything that he was doing.
- 9:21Speaker 1: He went over spectacular.
- 9:22Speaker 1: It was good to talk to Shea.
- 9:25Speaker 1: And then Mike had some fantastic pours, we smoked some cigars and then the band not remembering the band's name, but the band that they had hired for that night there had to be at least 200 people there between the Scotchchy bourbon boys, people that follow the band and the people who come.
- 9:45Speaker 1: The place was hopping on that friday night and we all had a good time but singing, whatever.
- 9:51Speaker 1: But then we finished up here.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Uh, had a special pour at about two o'clock in the morning and everybody went out.
- 9:59Speaker 1: But it was just a fantastic new year.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Randy.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Randy ford he came up from florida.
- 10:06Speaker 1: I, you know, I don't even know how I can miss you.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Walker came up.
- 10:10Speaker 1: He's from fort knox.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I mean, it just was spectacular and uh, it's just held, for, yeah, great, we're getting some held messages.
- 10:20Speaker 1: I like those for review anyways.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Uh, there's like there must be a decent amount of people on youtube.
- 10:28Speaker 1: There's, um, a couple guys uh commenting and it's good to see and uh, so that was just spectacular.
- 10:37Speaker 1: And then we hopped in our car me, casey Walker, sarah myself, super Nash, roxy and CT all headed back, ct headed home, but we all headed back to Kentucky.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Now we got to Maker's Mark, me and Roxy and Super Nash, mark, me and Roxy and Super Nash.
- 11:13Speaker 1: And I just got to say, now comes the fun part.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Oh my God, oh my God, all right.
- 11:17Speaker 1: So we got to Maker's Mark.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Let's just see if I can do this.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I am going.
- 11:26Speaker 1: I don't want to do that.
- 11:27Speaker 1: I'm going to try real quick.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Nope, I can't.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Oh, I'm going to go over here.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I think this should not pause it.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I should just be able to keep doing it, but I should be able to look at it able to keep doing it, but I should be able to look at it.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I just need to do my due diligence and I'll do that.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Let's do that.
- 11:48Speaker 1: It should still be working.
- 11:49Speaker 1: I come over here and I come this.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Why is this like that?
- 11:53Speaker 1: And where is she?
- 11:56Speaker 1: Okay, I'm just doing.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Okay, okay, I got it now Back to YouTube.
- 12:13Speaker 1: It should still be going.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Yeah, are we still live?
- 12:19Speaker 1: Yes, hopefully, didn't lose anybody, don't think.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I did, but we'll see.
- 12:27Speaker 1: It's not paused, I'm still there, all right.
- 12:33Speaker 1: So there we go.
- 12:34Speaker 1: We got to Maker's Mark.
- 12:36Speaker 1: I got what I needed.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Let's see Was that?
- 12:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I got what I needed.
- 12:41Speaker 1: And when we were driving down we decided we saw that on the Maker's Mark website, which is fantastic that there was a tour available which was called.
- 12:52Speaker 1: The tour was called Sip and Stroll and it was at 530.
- 13:00Speaker 1: We were getting there about 315.
- 13:02Speaker 1: And there was only two tickets left.
- 13:05Speaker 1: So we had talked to Super Nash and he was driving down in his car and we were talking back and forth and he thought we bought the two tickets.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Then, when he looked, there was one he could buy one, so he bought the one.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Well, it turned out we didn't buy the two.
- 13:20Speaker 1: We were asking him, so he bought the one, so we bought the other, so we're two tickets for three people.
- 13:24Speaker 1: So when we got there, we walked in and it's a really cool story, frank.
- 13:39Speaker 1: There was three people at the desk there was a woman and another guy, and then there was another guy that looked very important and it reminded me of walking up to the desk in Home Alone 2, when Tim Curry was at the desk with his employees, which was Rob Schneider I forget the woman's name, but the three of them are there and Kevin was trying to check in.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Now this was kind of what.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Super Nash went up and told the woman the story while the other man was standing there and it just reminded me that you know.
- 14:08Speaker 1: And so while he was standing there we kind of explained our story that we had messed up the tickets, we only have two and whatever.
- 14:19Speaker 1: And all of a sudden she looks at him and he says how many would you need?
- 14:26Speaker 1: And we were just like just one.
- 14:28Speaker 1: And this is maker's mark.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Okay, huge distillery, I mean maker's mark, supplies the whole united states.
- 14:34Speaker 1: It's got its name and I we weren't expecting, because we've been in at distilleries where they've told us when you ask for an extra ticket and it's no well said, we're the scotchy bourbon boys.
- 14:45Speaker 1: This happened, blah, and we messed up on the tickets and we'd want, would like to go.
- 14:49Speaker 1: And he looked at us and he said he goes, how many do you need?
- 14:53Speaker 1: And I said we just said one more is all we need.
- 14:55Speaker 1: He goes, we can accommodate you.
- 14:57Speaker 1: So I was like very impressed.
- 15:01Speaker 1: So they added another ticket to the tour, and I'm not saying they do this for everybody, but this is the kind of distillery this is for the people.
- 15:11Speaker 1: So I got his name, frank, and I told him I would mention this and Maker's Mark on the podcast.
- 15:18Speaker 1: But then I said to him that we were coming down March 7th to do a podcast with Rob Samuel, and we are, and we were going to, you know, do the podcast.
- 15:30Speaker 1: And he said well, I saw that on the schedule he goes, I'll be the person that will be showing you around and getting you all set up before so you do the podcast with Rob and I'm like great to meet you.
- 15:42Speaker 1: So his name is Frank Krockenberger and he is.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I found out later from Stacey Pritchard, he is director of marketing.
- 15:54Speaker 1: So I was impressed that it just was the unique scenario of that time.
- 16:03Speaker 1: You know where the people that were standing there and then, instead of saying no or trying to whatever, he said yes.
- 16:09Speaker 1: So I a shout out to frank for that.
- 16:12Speaker 1: But then when we had some great uh, when you wait, we had about an hour and 45 minutes to wait and we were and 45 minutes to wait and we were right there.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Beautiful property, it's all lit up with the sip and stroll, is baseball Christmas, okay, and it is lit up with lights, all the everything's decorated.
- 16:34Speaker 1: They have a.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Uh, I can actually show the people on Facebook real quick If I go to share.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I think I can do this.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Let's hit it Share, and it would be these, and then I would just hit share.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Oh, where is it?
- 16:55Speaker 1: Oh, it's right here.
- 16:56Speaker 1: What just happened?
- 17:00Speaker 1: Oh, there it is.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Share, there's the share screen.
- 17:02Speaker 1: So let me show you this.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Awesome, there it is.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Share, there's the share screen.
- 17:05Speaker 1: So let me show you this.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Awesome, there it is.
- 17:07Speaker 1: That's it.
- 17:08Speaker 1: It's an awesome.
- 17:10Speaker 1: People on YouTube can't see it, but people on Facebook can.
- 17:14Speaker 1: It's this awesome Maker's Mark Christmas tree made of Mark bottles that were dipped in red.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Just a beautiful thing on the premise.
- 17:25Speaker 1: And then another thing, real quick, is that they had the carolers going around and it was really cool there.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Let me see, I think I got a quick.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I do, I could show you them.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I'll give you a little video.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Not there, you could see them there on the screen, but I'll come back down and I think I could play the video.
- 17:52Speaker 1: So listen to them.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Caroling with Roxy.
- 17:55Speaker 1: I will actually play it.
- 17:58Speaker 1: There we go.
- 18:19Speaker 1: So that was kind of cool, I mean.
- 18:22Speaker 1: And then these drinks that they made were fantastic.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I don't yep, I got it right here.
- 18:29Speaker 1: You could see me right there.
- 18:30Speaker 1: It's big ice.
- 18:31Speaker 1: But that was Hannah's Old Fashioned, and Hannah's Old Fashioned was honestly one of the coolest drinks old-fashioned I've had and one of the best.
- 18:45Speaker 1: So one of the reasons why it's so good is because it is Maker's 46 Cast Strength with figs and dates, I believe, and raisins added to it for three weeks, and that is what they use for the bourbon.
- 19:08Speaker 1: And then they have sorghum, maple sorghum, simple syrup made from sorghum on the property that they grow, coconut liqueur and I don't remember the bitters, but that drink was spectacular and we had two of them.
- 19:28Speaker 1: And then, on this, I mean, the sip and stroll was $35 and it came with what you started off with a complimentary hello drink where you basically got a small coffee cup.
- 19:45Speaker 1: It was filled with apple cider and a generous helping of makers mark bourbon, and then that's what you went out to, sip and stroll.
- 19:54Speaker 1: But not only that, but they let you, uh, dip this fantastic holiday bottle, but because it's closed and I did that before, I don't know why but because the distillery is closed.
- 20:11Speaker 1: The cool thing was is that this nice bottle we got to dip our own, but you got to do it on the bottling line.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Normally everybody dips in the gift shop.
- 20:23Speaker 1: They have it set up to dip in the gift shop.
- 20:25Speaker 1: This was actually going onto the Maker's Mark bottling line, seeing everything up close and dipping your own Fantastic experience.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Check out my shorts on this.
- 20:36Speaker 1: I've got Roxy, myself and Super Nash dipping these bottles.
- 20:41Speaker 1: I got a really cool one.
- 20:43Speaker 1: I felt it wasn't, it was a you could see almost the full neck covered and I've got like a little little ones there but I got like a really cool.
- 20:54Speaker 1: What is that?
- 20:56Speaker 1: A spill, like almost a spill, not a drip.
- 20:59Speaker 1: So I was like really happy with this dip on this holiday bottle.
- 21:03Speaker 1: But the coolest thing after that was they had they let us and informed us at the beginning of the tour but they had 2024 cellar aged and this is a hard, hard bottle to get.
- 21:22Speaker 1: I find this to be one of the most fantastic things ever.
- 21:30Speaker 1: The experience was great.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Frank took care of us.
- 21:32Speaker 1: He actually then did our tour.
- 21:35Speaker 1: So that was even cooler that he jumped on to do our tour.
- 21:40Speaker 1: So at one point, also on the tour, they serve you bread pudding some of the most awesome bread pudding I've ever tasted.
- 21:52Speaker 1: So you've got so much going on.
- 21:56Speaker 1: You know that it's just, I mean honestly, the whole thing there.
- 22:05Speaker 1: That holiday thing you can't not If you're going to go down to Kentucky, one of the best places to go.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I've been at the other distilleries.
- 22:15Speaker 1: They do a really good job at Christmastime.
- 22:17Speaker 1: But Maker's Mark and their property, the way it's decorated, the actual what would you say?
- 22:24Speaker 1: The actual, the show or tours they put on were fantastic.
- 22:32Speaker 1: It was, I mean, once we were in the gift shop we're able to purchase, you could purchase anything.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I ended up with a fantastic makers mark red, red makers mark hoodie for it.
- 22:43Speaker 1: They had sizes, everything that.
- 22:45Speaker 1: It was just a fantastic experience.
- 22:46Speaker 1: It's not the first time we've been there.
- 22:48Speaker 1: But also, knowing that I'm an ambassador and my barrel now is five and a half years, I'm really excited for when it goes because I'm going to buy all the bottles I can of the barrel.
- 23:00Speaker 1: It's a single barrel, maker's Mark.
- 23:02Speaker 1: When you do it and your barrel's there, they just take the barrel, they proof, it down to Maker's Mark proof and you're on your way.
- 23:10Speaker 1: So I'm looking forward to that.
- 23:12Speaker 1: But the cellar age is that that we're able to get is aged longer in the cellars the limestone cellar, which is then cool.
- 23:22Speaker 1: So it's aged longer, but in a cooler environment than where they have it in the houses.
- 23:26Speaker 1: But also, it's not proofed down, it's served at barrel proof.
- 23:31Speaker 1: So it's a fantastic bourbon and I'm going to have some right now because I, since I got that bottle and another one I actually can pull from my bottle and I'm excited for this.
- 23:45Speaker 1: And yeah, I keep getting the same message for review Someone's not being nice, and that's the way it should be.
- 23:54Speaker 1: It's the way it should be, folks.
- 23:56Speaker 1: So what does the new year bring?
- 24:05Speaker 1: So we're going to the next podcast on Thursday.
- 24:08Speaker 1: I'll talk about the spirit of the industry, what's going on in the bourbon world.
- 24:15Speaker 1: I like to do that podcast.
- 24:18Speaker 1: This will be the third year that I did that podcast, but it's.
- 24:21Speaker 1: What is the outlook for 2025?
- 24:23Speaker 1: So we're not looking at that.
- 24:28Speaker 1: I mean, we did Kentucky Bourbon Festival, new Orleans Bourbon Festival and Bourbon on the Banks, and then also the Ohio Craft Distillery Festival.
- 24:44Speaker 1: So we did four festivals this year.
- 24:47Speaker 1: We attended, we had multiple trips Record for the Scotchie Bourbon Boys.
- 24:53Speaker 1: We were down in Kentucky multiple times barrel picking.
- 24:59Speaker 1: We went on a barrel pick with the state of Ohio at Starlight.
- 25:02Speaker 1: We went on a barrel pick with the Kentucky Bourbon Festival for Chicken Cock and then also Bluegrass Distilleries and then also Bluegrass Distilleries and then one more.
- 25:13Speaker 1: I believe Chris Thompson went to the Augusta Barrel Pick.
- 25:18Speaker 1: So the Scotchy Bourbon Boys as far as going on barrel picks, plus, we did our own barrel pick from the Spirit of French Lick, the Lillian Sinclair and the William Dalton, which are still available.
- 25:32Speaker 1: They still make holiday gifts if you need something.
- 25:36Speaker 1: And then also it's just some great bourbon.
- 25:39Speaker 1: So if you're interested, contact me through Messenger and I'll get you what you need to be able to taste those wonderful barrel picks.
- 26:34Speaker 1: And then just all those barrel picks going down, plus all the trips to Kentucky.
- 26:40Speaker 1: You know we go down the whole week before Kentucky Bourbon Festival.
- 26:46Speaker 1: We were at a Means, we were at Larkin Whiskey Thief multiple times.
- 26:52Speaker 1: I think I've been to Whiskey Thief one way or another, probably seven times this year.
- 26:57Speaker 1: The drive to Kentucky is becoming like the back of my hand.
- 27:02Speaker 1: So that's been fantastic.
- 27:05Speaker 1: What are some of the things that you guys are doing?
- 27:07Speaker 1: Let me know in the comments.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Doing a research project in the middle of the way between the alcohol industry and the public health.
- 27:18Speaker 1: That should be interesting.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Honey, who's worried about you at all?
- 27:22Speaker 1: I'm just reading some of the comments, folks.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean there's so many different places and stuff to do throughout the.
