- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:32OK, it's a very foggy, drizzly, weird morning here.
- 0:37Girls are kind of quiet right now, all out here pecking
- 0:40around. Anyway, we're talking about
- 0:43burnout today, something that I know very well 'cause I used to
- 0:47do it all the time. And I've often been asked how do
- 0:51you control burnout? How do you stop burnout?
- 0:55Well, first and foremost, you have to recognize that you have
- 0:58a propensity for it. You have to recognize that it's
- 1:01the way you think. That puts you in that place
- 1:03where you just say, OK, I'm going to go into the situation
- 1:08and whatever it is, I'm going to pour all of myself into it.
- 1:12That's one way to burn out where you just do it for so much that
- 1:15you just burn yourself out doing physical activity.
- 1:19But there's another way that's pretty insidious and not doesn't
- 1:22get talked about a lot, but it's the emotional burnout of
- 1:25something and it's the perpetual looping going back and forth to
- 1:29get back and forth, back and forth, back and forth in your
- 1:31own mind about what am I doing. This doesn't make any sense, or
- 1:36just the the drudgery of the job where you just keep thinking
- 1:39about the job. Over and over and over and over
- 1:41and over and over and over. Or the tasks of it, so to speak,
- 1:44and you start to emotionally burn out.
- 1:47And that, my friends, is even a more dangerous one.
- 1:51Because when you're emotionally burned out, it is hard to come
- 1:55back from that. It requires a very deep
- 1:59cleansing of your thoughts, your patterns, your soul to come back
- 2:03from it being burnt out from something.
- 2:06What, No matter what it is, if it's a job, if it's a
- 2:09relationship, burnout is real and it should not be ignored, it
- 2:15should be dealt with. The question is how do you deal
- 2:18with it? And every person is different.
- 2:20So when I'm coaching people on this, I always have to have a a
- 2:24decent understanding of what got them into that headspace.
- 2:28Like, you know, what are the patterns that are causing that
- 2:30to show up? Then we know exactly how we can,
- 2:33you know, tether a line in there and back out of it.
- 2:36But for the purposes of what we're talking about today, this
- 2:40has to be something you identify on your own right now.
- 2:43So you have to start looking at when do you start experiencing
- 2:47it. You know, my mother used to
- 2:49experience burnout from her job. She worked Monday through
- 2:53Friday, and she was, she's worked for Texas Instruments,
- 2:57and she started every day at 7:00 AM and she got out every
- 3:02day at 2:00. So she would leave very, very
- 3:06early. She was up at 3:30 every morning
- 3:09because she wanted to get things done before she left.
- 3:11And she left the house at, think it was like 6:10 every day.
- 3:16And then she would drive to work and she would, you know, go do
- 3:20her thing and then come home, take care of everything at the
- 3:24house. Now here's the here's the thing
- 3:26about this. She was burnt out on that job
- 3:29for years. And you could tell in her
- 3:32patterns, her language, the things that she said I had.
- 3:35I felt bad for her because I used to say all the time do
- 3:39something different and she's like, I I can't go back to
- 3:42school at this point. Da, da, da.
- 3:44But she wouldn't take the risk of going back to school.
- 3:47She wouldn't take the risk of doing something different.
- 3:50So she stayed in the phase of burnout.
- 3:52And her burnout started early, like, I mean, it was always in
- 3:57her. Let me be very clear about that.
- 3:58She was burnt out. But she would repeat the loop of
- 4:02burnout every single weekend. It would start.
- 4:05She'd be done. She'd be like, yeah, it's the
- 4:07weekend. And then by Saturday night she
- 4:10would start talking about Monday.
- 4:12On Saturday night she would start talking about Monday and
- 4:15how I wish I didn't have to go back to work all the time.
- 4:19And you know, this was one of those things where you hear it
- 4:22enough and it becomes glazed over.
- 4:25You just don't even pay attention to it anymore.
- 4:27And by Sunday, she would say back to the grind, back to the
- 4:31grind. Tomorrow back to the grind.
- 4:33So she wasted all of her free time that she had on Sunday,
- 4:38future pacing the pain of Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday and
- 4:43Thursday. And during the week she'd say
- 4:45two more days till I get some time off.
- 4:48And it was such a struggle for my father and I to hear that
- 4:53because she wouldn't do anything about it.
- 4:54And she had options, but she didn't want to take any of them
- 4:57because she was stuck in that myopic view.
- 5:00So how do if you're in that space and you're recognizing
- 5:04yourself in that story that you're doing that, I want you to
- 5:08hear that there is a way out. There really is a way out.
- 5:12You just have to interrupt your pattern and say, what's another
- 5:15way I can think of this? What's another action I could
- 5:18do? What is any action that I could
- 5:20do? What's one small step around
- 5:23this that I could take? What's another thought?
- 5:26What if I stopped future pacing? Oh, that is the biggest one, my
- 5:31friends. What if I stopped future pacing?
- 5:33But remember this, No one can do this for you.
- 5:36You have to start. So you have to start stopping
- 5:40the burnout inside of you first, because you can change your mind
- 5:44about things and they can become easier emotionally first.
- 5:49So remember, today we're talking about the not the physical part
- 5:53of it, but the emotional part. And you can work with that
- 5:56immediately. So give it a try.
- 5:58All right, my friends, I'll see you tomorrow.
- 5:59I hope you have a blessed day. Bye.
