- 0:00Jeezo, Pete. Well, welcome back.
- 0:03New podcast, BDP episode 37 or something.
- 0:08I don't know how many episodes, but the good news is that we got
- 0:14some new additions to the pod studio.
- 0:17Look at this freaking Bute over here.
- 0:19You know, temporary spot, but I'm jacked up on it.
- 0:23Super jacked up on it Joey. Cheers bud.
- 0:27We got these so story behind these ciders.
- 0:30We were at a event sitting in the Bow and Arrow shop booth,
- 0:37and the girl next to us was running the bivouac cider booth.
- 0:41And I got to chatting with her, got to bring a possible job
- 0:45lead, which is great. And we go to leave, right?
- 0:50And I go, hey, can I grab a couple of those to take home?
- 0:52She goes, do you just want to take off a whole case?
- 0:55And I go, huh? She goes, you want to just take
- 0:58a whole case home? I go, yeah, oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:02So of course, I walked to the car with a whole case.
- 1:04So shout out to Bimouac. I think you your inquiry on
- 1:09bringing a couple home was a little bit less understandable
- 1:12than how you made it seem right there, but yeah.
- 1:15Yeah, it was a little. A little more slurs.
- 1:20Yeah, a little. More slurs.
- 1:22I will say, you know, I, I, you know, I'm, I'm having a lot of
- 1:27sober days this year where 0 beverages, but at a party, I'm
- 1:30still, of course I'm, I'm still down to party.
- 1:34So that day, you know, I had been on, on the wagon for, for a
- 1:38while and just went after it. And then she offers free ciders
- 1:42and like, just lead the horse to water, why don't you?
- 1:46So I ended up getting the just a little bit saucy, nothing crazy,
- 1:51you know? On the wagon for a while.
- 1:54Three days, Three days. Hey, it's not bad, dude.
- 1:59Pennsylvania was so much fun. So yeah, so we do have a guest,
- 2:03Joey, The he probably gives me a run for my money as the group
- 2:07degenerate. You know, it's either me or him,
- 2:09but I think he might have I. Think I'd take that case.
- 2:11I think he did I. Think you do fan favorite.
- 2:15Oh, we got to turn my light on. Reach over.
- 2:18You know what? It's not even in the shot.
- 2:19It's not in the shot. Never mind.
- 2:20You could still flip it on, though.
- 2:22But anyway, a kid made me. There's a little switch.
- 2:25Gotcha. So let's talk about Joey.
- 2:28So Joey been, I don't know, probably in a half dozen videos
- 2:32at this point on the channel, if if not more so, you know,
- 2:36somewhat channel regular, but. It's clearly been an impact
- 2:40someone wanted to take. A picture great story we'll get
- 2:44to that. But PA was your first tack
- 2:48right? Yep, and Brianna had a great
- 2:50idea of having a first time tack shooter on on the pod so.
- 2:57Made it so much more than that because it's like it's not just
- 2:59his first tack, but it's like that.
- 3:01Correct me if I'm wrong, is that your first also like 3D shoe out
- 3:04of state as well? Yeah.
- 3:06Yeah. So I mean.
- 3:08Yeah, quite a few different things.
- 3:09Quite a few firsts, but why don't you tell me you kind of
- 3:13got put in the game late. You were basically a pinch
- 3:16hitter on the trip, you know what I mean?
- 3:17Yeah, one of the guys went on the injured list and we needed a
- 3:21fill in. So you.
- 3:22You sound. Making it sound.
- 3:25Like, no, no, not so with like 2 weeks left, you just friggin and
- 3:29said yeah, I'll do it. Which is a bold move, yeah.
- 3:32So what was your initial? Audible move that weekend.
- 3:36To add on to that though, like before the tax season even
- 3:39started, I did mention to you like, hey, if you have any
- 3:42openings, let me know. I'm I'll, yeah, I'll hop on.
- 3:44Absolutely. Given back then I was employed,
- 3:47had a good job before I got fired.
- 3:50So we got two people. On the couch, on the job hunt,
- 3:53right? Now, yeah, two jobless people.
- 3:54At least he makes money on the side right now.
- 3:57I just don't like, I do not want to go back working for myself.
- 4:01It's just too much, too much foot, manual labor and trying to
- 4:06grow this gut out, you know? Yeah, you got to get the dad bod
- 4:09really going, you know? Yeah.
- 4:11Yeah, so I got the shade style guy.
- 4:14Oh yeah, I was. So I was saying that at the
- 4:17party, at the party this weekend, all three of us had the
- 4:23really cool. You know, we look so cool, all
- 4:26of us just glasses hanging. Yeah.
- 4:27We the. Real bride, yours were hanging
- 4:29on by barbed wire. You know how you do it.
- 4:32That's badass. So tell me, tell me what your
- 4:34thoughts were when you got the call and you said, yeah, put me
- 4:37in, coach. What?
- 4:39What were you kind of thinking? Well, the first thing was, how
- 4:45the hell am I going to pay for this?
- 4:48But so Brooke actually ended up I talked to Brooks, asked her if
- 4:55it was something that we can make work because at the time we
- 4:57didn't have the coffee trailer open full time at Print Akanas.
- 5:02So I'm usually the taxi, I'll drive it to and from events.
- 5:06And she had a few events like booked for that week.
- 5:09But once we opened the coffee trailer up full time, it was had
- 5:13to put it on cinder blocks. I'm like, unless it's for a
- 5:15specific dollar amount, I'm not going to be throwing tires on
- 5:17and off to haul that thing to and from, you know, this tanch
- 5:20work. But so she decided that she
- 5:24wanted to keep it stationary and and just in its permanent
- 5:30location. And I told her about the the
- 5:36offer for the shoe. She told me to send her the
- 5:41flight details. And so she ended up paying for
- 5:45my ticket. Shout out to my sugar Mama.
- 5:47Nice. I love it, dude, I love it.
- 5:51So that was that was a real cool, cool surprise or slash
- 5:54gift that she gave me. It was kind of like a thank you
- 5:58for for taxiing her to in front of her advance.
- 6:00Dude, she's been killing it with with.
- 6:02Oh yeah. She killed it at BD three baby.
- 6:05Yeah, I mean everybody that tries her coffee.
- 6:07I mean, you told me if I'm wrong, but they're just.
- 6:11It's. Delicious.
- 6:12Once you go black, you never go back, baby.
- 6:14I do love black espresso blinds fire I do.
- 6:17This, I don't know this blueberry one right now.
- 6:21Was it good? It's so good, why don't you do
- 6:24it? If this isn't on the menu, she
- 6:25needs to add it to the menu. So she made it like a what, like
- 6:30a TikTok or Instagram reel Post it while we were in
- 6:34Pennsylvania. I showed you and I'm like to
- 6:37this just looks so good. It's delicious.
- 6:39So she needs to get like a a board that she could like, you
- 6:43know, if she's ever like trying out new things or whatever.
- 6:46And it's not on the main like a menu thing that like people can
- 6:53see so they know what like creative new options or
- 6:58currently if it's ever like something that's not on the
- 7:00menu, but it's like, I could make this right now.
- 7:02I got the supplies in the trailer or something that they
- 7:05could also see it. It's a lot of people.
- 7:07Like you get like 3 things at a coffee shop.
- 7:10Either it's on the menu or your coffee connoisseur and you've
- 7:13got your own concoction that you can just stout off and usually a
- 7:17shop can make it or three. Because coffee people are
- 7:21creative. They usually have some drinks
- 7:24that they know but are not on their menu.
- 7:26It's like a secret menu almost or just a sign that says like
- 7:30ask about the secret menu. And that way if it's not
- 7:35something that like she makes all the time, they have an
- 7:38option like ask what's available because.
- 7:43Dude, she's like the Walter White of coffee.
- 7:47Crazy coffee. It's insane.
- 7:52But to get back on track. Coffee it's.
- 7:57So hard it is, but a shout out to That's right, Brooks.
- 7:59Cafe Brooks Cafe, It's at America Pernicanos.
- 8:04It's how's the? What's the How do you say the
- 8:06word? It's Pernicanos Italian
- 8:08restaurant, so if you're a local it's right across from the El
- 8:11Cajon Ford dealership. Best coffee you'll have, and I
- 8:16mean. 1000 first. Time everybody falls in love
- 8:19with her when they meet her so she's just the sweetest, most
- 8:22genuine person that if they can walks the face of this earth so.
- 8:27She is so anyways not to so sugar baby Mama, baby Mama, she
- 8:33is a sugar baby Mama right now. So all of those things.
- 8:38No spoiler alerts, but. Yeah, so she she gives you a
- 8:44flight. Gives me a flight, decided to
- 8:46send it show up with Scott, James, Bree for sister Brittany
- 8:57and then I'm told I'm going to be rooming with the one and only
- 9:03MFJJI. Never met the guy before.
- 9:06I mean other than like just saying what's up in the
- 9:10photosciple shoes? And it went from like supposed
- 9:12to be 4 dudes in that room to like just.
- 9:17So we had a very intimate night together the first night.
- 9:19Nice. Not intimate enough for him to
- 9:21remember my name, but. That's funny.
- 9:26I always, you know, sometimes, like, should I put my ear to the
- 9:29door and see if they're like, you know, having little fireside
- 9:33chats in their room at night from across the bunks or.
- 9:37I do love a little. Like there's so much room for
- 9:39activities. I do love a bedtime chat with a
- 9:41pal when you're like sharing a room and you're like, I know
- 9:44you're, hey, what a nice day. You're just going back and
- 9:47forth. Oh, so I heard he says that he
- 9:49snores, but I've never heard it. So it's not that bad.
- 9:52It's not that. Bad.
- 9:53Not like James's gutter old freaking dude.
- 9:57That was like coming from the depths of like Valhalla or
- 10:00something. It was insane that last night
- 10:03in, in Pittsburgh, you know, really kept warning me like, or
- 10:09like threatening me not to. I said I'm going to put him in
- 10:13your bed. It's your call if you get him
- 10:16too late like he is yours for the night.
- 10:20It won't save me much, but at least get it more than like 2
- 10:23feet from my ear. With that being said, if anyone
- 10:25who watches the show happens to work for a CPAP company, go
- 10:29ahead and reach out and let's get me cooking.
- 10:32I would love it. So that would be sick.
- 10:36Another theme. I'm kind of we're jumping back
- 10:38and forth, but I'm going to I'm going to flash forward a little
- 10:40bit. We, we kind of, you know, we got
- 10:45on a kick on the trip about Jager bombs, Jager bombs, Jager
- 10:49bombs, Jager bombs, and we ended up having.
- 10:53Quite a fair. Amount a few Jager bombs.
- 10:55I haven't had them since I think that video originally surfaced,
- 10:59yeah, back in what, 2012 or 2013, I think I said.
- 11:04It was like 07. Yeah, because that was a re
- 11:07upload. The original was like 07/08,
- 11:10like one of the first videos on YouTube.
- 11:12Yeah, my new haircut. If you guys don't know what
- 11:14we're talking about, go on YouTube and look up my new
- 11:17haircut and it's this total freaking fool bag Guido dude
- 11:22from like Jersey or something that just absolutely broke the
- 11:26Internet when that thing came out.
- 11:28That and drinking out of cups. Do you remember that video?
- 11:31I don't even seen that one drinking out of cups.
- 11:33It's a. Lizard that it's like this dude
- 11:35made it when he was tripping on acid or something and he just
- 11:38like does a voice over for this like real, almost like
- 11:42claymation video of this gecko. It was what are you the fucking
- 11:46tree Meister? Oh, Mr. Walkway, Mr. Lead me to
- 11:50the building. It's just, if you know what I'm
- 11:53talking about, YouTube. Originate somewhere in the
- 11:55ghetto of like the northeastern line cities or something.
- 12:01Why does all these very original like OG YouTube come from
- 12:06apparently like? The.
- 12:09East Coast, real strong accents. Yeah, it's all like real heavy,
- 12:12like New York accents, but I cannot believe you guys haven't
- 12:15seen. That no, I have not.
- 12:16I need to watch it. Absolutely.
- 12:17So anyway, we get there, you find out, you know, you're,
- 12:21you're rooming with jobs. How did you?
- 12:22Bring up the Jager. Pause.
- 12:24Was that just a fun factor? It was about our the snoring
- 12:27story that the Jager bomb. Basically what?
- 12:31Oh, it doesn't lead to your snoring, but it definitely, you
- 12:34know, enhances. It's a little fuel on the fire
- 12:37or. It's there regardless.
- 12:39You're lucky to join with the rumblement shots, dude.
- 12:42When I get hammered, I just pound those things.
- 12:45It's like a Peppermint Patty shot, but it's actually, it is
- 12:49so good. It actually.
- 12:50Smelled great. I did.
- 12:51I did sniff it and I might even give it a sip at that one place.
- 12:54Yeah, it was. Oh man.
- 12:55I love Pittsburgh. On a side note, I really like
- 12:58Pittsburgh. I like the architecture.
- 13:03The, I guess community, if you will, is kind of disappointing
- 13:10given how historic that city is and how kind of woke the culture
- 13:16has just been overtaken by woke culture.
- 13:20Like seeing those churches from like the early 1800s just
- 13:24littered with pride flags is it's just disrespectful.
- 13:28I mean, I'm a huge Christian, so.
- 13:32I just thought you just got that, guys.
- 13:34Yeah, yeah. Very exciting.
- 13:35You beat James to it. At this point, I'm just I'm
- 13:39going to wait to do it with James Junior One.
- 13:42Junior. Though, So yeah, but but yeah,
- 13:46so we show up, you find a roommate and we're shooting the
- 13:49next day at I believe it was 2:30.
- 13:54So we're slated to shoot Jack links.
- 13:57OK, Now we pull up at 10 to do a little practice shooting sign in
- 14:02things like that on a Thursday because that's a that's a four
- 14:05day shoot. So we show up Thursday.
- 14:07What did you what was your first impression of parking, walking
- 14:11into the vendor village, all that stuff the check in like
- 14:15just kind of get. The invite to yourself.
- 14:16Yeah, give me a little summation of your.
- 14:19Village. Well the vendor we pull up and
- 14:24was the parking lot full the first?
- 14:26No, we we were last past the end of the parking the first day.
- 14:31Every other day we, well, besides the last day anyways,
- 14:35get the ass into the parking and I'm just, I look down and see
- 14:39all these booths and trailers set up and I'm like, dude, these
- 14:44are all companies that I've like been like interested in their
- 14:48products, but it's you can't really get a look at them
- 14:52online. You know, you just have a
- 14:53picture. You can't hold your hands, you
- 14:55know, you can't meet the people behind the product.
- 14:58So as soon as I saw all that dude, I felt like a kid at
- 15:01Disneyland. And I told Brooke the same
- 15:02thing. I'm like, dude, this is like the
- 15:05happiest place on Earth for me and like just filled with
- 15:10excitement to walk in there and I'm walking in with like
- 15:14legends, you know, like you're huge.
- 15:18You and Josh had equally the same amount of interactions.
- 15:22I mean, and it's, it's cool to see because before we were
- 15:28friends, I was a fan and met you at BDC 2 officially and our
- 15:35friendship podcast. I think we met.
- 15:42I was fondling those. I actually, I think the first
- 15:46time we actually met was at Alpine.
- 15:48I thought so the first. Time I met you was at not this
- 15:53last, obviously not this last flying pig, but the flying pig
- 15:56before. That was the first time I've saw
- 15:58you in person because I've only been shooting for like about 2
- 16:011/2 years. But as soon as I started
- 16:04shooting, I was just look like I am.
- 16:08I like to tinker. If if I get really involved in a
- 16:12hobby, I like to know the insurance and outs of it.
- 16:14I like to freaking experiment, whatnot.
- 16:17So I hop on YouTube like when I start working for myself.
- 16:20That's how I taught myself how to do all the remodeling I did
- 16:23was mainly through YouTube. Yeah, better than college.
- 16:27So I come across your videos and exactly how you kind of brand
- 16:37yourself. You're the fun, like your videos
- 16:40are the fun of archery because I, I had no idea what archery
- 16:44was. You know, I'm shooting 15 yards
- 16:46in my backyard with my bow and I'm freaking I think, oh dude,
- 16:51I'm so good at this. I got a group like this freaking
- 16:53at 15 yards and then I go make it a little bit longer of a
- 16:58range at like 40 and I can't even hit the target half the
- 17:00time. So like, it's just a such a
- 17:03humbling sport. But yeah, so like I said, we
- 17:07were, I was a fan of yours before we became friends.
- 17:11So walking in, it just felt super surreal to be side by side
- 17:17with two people that I've been watching since I got into the
- 17:21sport. Yeah.
- 17:22And seeing the interaction, like it was really cool.
- 17:27And like I told you, I don't know how you keep such a humble
- 17:30personality. You're just just the humble
- 17:33popper, Sir. Dude he he says the best humble
- 17:36popper in the video. Coming up Wednesday.
- 17:39But yeah, was that, like, was that kind of surprising to you,
- 17:44the amount of people that would, like, come up to me and Josh,
- 17:47like, were you expecting that or does that, like, catch you off
- 17:49guard a little? I I mean, I knew it was going to
- 17:52be present. I had no idea to the extent that
- 17:56it actually was but and dude like you guys just absolutely
- 18:02spoiled me and I can't thank you guys enough for even having me
- 18:04on that trip. No dude, you're you're a treat
- 18:07to have. Well, we've never stayed
- 18:10anywhere overnight, you know, So it's like, all right, you guys
- 18:13are rolling the dice on this guy freaking.
- 18:15We're going to, I mean, we're going to be living to go there
- 18:17for the next almost a week. Because we added days at the end
- 18:20to vacation a little bit, which but I got so much shit I want to
- 18:23get to. So let's jump into let's jump
- 18:25into there's a part I'm definitely not missing in this
- 18:28pod that I'm going to get to, but I definitely so I remember
- 18:35like my first tack ever in 2019, right?
- 18:38And I remember showing up to the first shooting cone.
- 18:41I remember the target like yesterday.
- 18:43I remember the shot and I show up and I remember for some
- 18:47reason just being so nervous, like people are around, you know
- 18:51what I mean? It's like, Oh my God, there's
- 18:53like people everywhere. And then I shoot at I think it
- 18:56was a Panther target at like it was far.
- 19:00It was like 80. It was like 80 yards or
- 19:03something, right? And I, I just farm it, shoot
- 19:08over it, right? First target ever at a tac.
- 19:11I'm pretty sure I missed if I remember correctly.
- 19:13And what happened was at the time.
- 19:16And This is why I recommend TAC so much for people, especially
- 19:20the ones at higher elevation. I learned in that trip that like
- 19:24I need to cut a bunch of yardage at 10,000 feet and I didn't know
- 19:28that. So like at 80 yards, I didn't
- 19:30really miss the shot, but my arrow was this much higher than
- 19:35normal because of the elevation. And you don't get that in
- 19:37Pennsylvania or Oklahoma, some of these other ones.
- 19:40But that's the really cool part about doing your Montana's, your
- 19:43Utah's or Colorado's because it helps to teach you about
- 19:48elevation a lot and just about your shooting overall.
- 19:50So that's another reason I really like the events.
- 19:53What was elevation? Where was your first tuck at?
- 19:55Was it? Called Park City.
- 19:56Park City and the elevation, you said it was like 10,000.
- 19:59Probably almost 10, like somewhere between 8:00 and
- 20:0110:00. Yeah.
- 20:02And made a huge difference. And now of course I know that
- 20:05and with shout out to Precision Cut again, you can just dial
- 20:09that into your tape. Incredible.
- 20:11I've sat there and just messed around just to see the
- 20:13difference between like sea level 1000 feet for again, 3000
- 20:18feet and there really isn't a difference until you hit about
- 20:215006 once you get to like 8. Like if you're going from 3000
- 20:28feet to 6000 feet, I mean, you might see like a yard or two
- 20:34difference at like 110 yards. Because I've printed out the
- 20:38site tapes and saw them right next to each other just to see
- 20:41the difference. Because on the, on the computer
- 20:43screen, it looks like a significant difference.
- 20:46But that when you click between the two, but then when you put
- 20:50them side by side and they're actually the scale, it's like
- 20:52half a yard. But once you get to like 8000
- 20:55feet, then you start seeing that difference change around like
- 20:59about 40 to 50 yards. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:03And then by the time you're at 100, it could be 4 yards.
- 21:05Yeah. So a lot when we went to
- 21:08Colorado for that, OK, I printed out Drew and mine site tapes for
- 21:13I think I printed them out for like 12 or 13,000 feet.
- 21:17The highest elevation we were at was 15 five.
- 21:20And the site tape that I had on my bow was for Laguna, which was
- 21:24like I had it set at like 5500 feet and I forgot my site tapes
- 21:30up at the house I like I was looking for him everywhere.
- 21:33I couldn't find him and Drew had his.
- 21:36But I ended up freaking getting a shot opportunity on and out
- 21:39for the first time and sealed it over his back.
- 21:42So I'm going to blame it on not having the correct side tape.
- 21:46It's not nerds. Or anything.
- 21:47It wasn't shooting for 40 yards when he was actually at 28
- 21:50yards. It was a side tape.
- 21:52OK so anyway the reason I wanted to tell my story is because I
- 21:56remember that anxiety and nerves of my first target ever an
- 22:00attack. So I want to know you're already
- 22:02a shaky. Mask.
- 22:02You don't want to know, You already know.
- 22:04Tell. Me.
- 22:05So tell me when we pull up to that Sasquatch shot, our very
- 22:08first shot ever on attack worked for you and it's Jack Links,
- 22:12right? What were you pretty?
- 22:14Were you pretty nervous to pull it back and RIP it?
- 22:16I was nervous the entire time I was shooting.
- 22:21Like I'm shooting with, I'm pretty comfortable shooting with
- 22:26you now with you and Bree. But shooting with Jeff, Jeff's a
- 22:30freaking ringer. Josh is a freaking legend.
- 22:36You know, he's a hell of a shooter.
- 22:39And I shoot I think second or third you, you go up.
- 22:42I think Brittany or Bree shoots and then I go up and I neared
- 22:47your shot. You hit it.
- 22:50What left nipple? I hit it right nipple and I was
- 22:52like, thank God I hit the target, let alone freaking
- 22:55basically the same shot James had just mirrored.
- 22:58So I was like, all right, really?
- 23:01We pull up, dude. I mean, I think it's on Josh's
- 23:07channel, his video that it was either a video or a short that
- 23:13they put out. But I hand Scott my phone to I'm
- 23:18showing them the mantis X10 my my shot tracker.
- 23:21It shows like your stability and scores view accordingly.
- 23:26And I've never like scored like lower than like 8089.
- 23:30I want to say it for you. No, I'll say 86 is probably like
- 23:33my worst score I've ever had on that dude.
- 23:36This thing had to have been like a 62 like I didn't.
- 23:40I didn't see the shot record, but when I saw the short on
- 23:44YouTube, Dodds is filming his phone screen or my phone screen
- 23:50when Scott's holding the phone and this thing's going like
- 23:54like, and this is that this is holding like usually like it
- 23:58moves around and then you drop back and you see it drop in and
- 24:02then you see the pin just settle and like it'll move like kind of
- 24:06like real slowly. Mine looked like freaking 9.7 on
- 24:12the Richter scale. Dude was like and then brakes,
- 24:17you know, it's a freaking absolute spas and a hat.
- 24:21And that was the energy I had like the entire freaking weekend
- 24:26because it wasn't like all right, first time shooting with
- 24:29this group get through the 1st course all right, nerves settle.
- 24:36No, it's freaking second courses with a whole new group of guys
- 24:39that are freaking legends in the industry.
- 24:41And so the the nerves were just peaked the entire time.
- 24:44Dude I I was in bed for two days after that time getting back
- 24:47just for recovery. You are smoked.
- 24:50I could see by the time we're at the ball game, I was like, this
- 24:52dude is smoked right now and we're all smoked.
- 24:55But but yeah, so, OK, so let's think about it.
- 24:58So we shot Jack Links, then we shot RMEF our second time.
- 25:03Ultra view, no Ultra view, Ultra View and then RMEF and then
- 25:07Brian. And then Brian, so we shot 4
- 25:09courses. Which which course would you say
- 25:14was your favorite of the four that we did?
- 25:18As far as technical shots go, so I'm a huge fan of the window
- 25:23shots. Like the tighter the shot, like
- 25:25I like it if I have like a 10% chance of making that window
- 25:29shot, you know, like I just love those super challenging,
- 25:32difficult, like if you hit the target, it's impressive shots.
- 25:35You know, I think Ultra View had the most of those.
- 25:39And on top of that is pouring rain.
- 25:41Luckily we didn't get the brunt of it because we were under a
- 25:44pretty thick canopy, but we still got sucked.
- 25:46Oh yeah. That was probably my favorite.
- 25:49I was probably the least nervous there because I was around
- 25:52mostly friends. And then Jeff, who I met for the
- 25:57first time this weekend, I thought I was friends with them.
- 25:59Like I listened to one of his podcasts and like I knew the guy
- 26:04and I could have swore that I like met him at like one of your
- 26:07shoots or something. Oh, really?
- 26:09Well, what's up, dude? How you been?
- 26:10And he goes, good. I was like, you Remember Me?
- 26:12He goes now yourself. Didn't I meet you somewhere?
- 26:15He goes no. Shout out to Jeff, Jeff.
- 26:19Jeff is a really, really cool guy.
- 26:21I had a lot of fun to shoot with him.
- 26:25Yeah, my favorite course. Shit, man.
- 26:26I mean, I to be honest, I I thought Prime was a lot.
- 26:30Or I mean, I thought all of them were fun, but I thought the elk
- 26:33one was actually pretty cool. That's my second I.
- 26:35Really like the elk course. I think there's something to a
- 26:3815 target course that I just love, and that's why some of
- 26:41these changes that we're going to be making for the challenge
- 26:44next year, like I'm excited for because 25 or 20 is fine, but I
- 26:50really think the sweet spot for a course length is somewhere
- 26:53between 15 and 20 targets, in my opinion.
- 26:56I think that's perfect. If they're gapped out enough,
- 26:59yeah. So you get some like scenic
- 27:01walks and stuff. And I think that's what makes it
- 27:03good. If it's a quick, short 15, then
- 27:06I'm like, I wish, you know, there could have been more.
- 27:09But when you get those walks that are creative, whether
- 27:11you're like going around rocks or upstate, you know, cliffy
- 27:16things or stuff like that, I think that can make a short
- 27:20course great. I I still loved the prime
- 27:25course, but I think it's because it was the most similar.
- 27:27I love the technical courses. Those are my favorite.
- 27:32Did you feel like just standing up taters or you know, undecided
- 27:36on things in life right now? He's getting too cozy.
- 27:39It's about to fall. He's going to get AMC here soon.
- 27:41He'll jump down, he'll pace around, come stare at people.
- 27:45There you go. There he's a.
- 27:47Good look too, he's with. It Abby, he's a sweetheart, but
- 27:50I like the prime one just because it was the best
- 27:53experience. You got.
- 27:54To like the mountain courses, you know, like that's most
- 28:01relatable still on a minute scale, but most relatable to
- 28:06some of the bigger courses you see at Utah and Montana that
- 28:10really like utilize the mountain would they just don't have the
- 28:17type of mountains that Utah and Montana have but.
- 28:20Well, they found like the biggest hill in Pennsylvania and
- 28:24you shoot down it like that. That one shot, the one where
- 28:28it's basically a drop off. Oh, the bison.
- 28:30The bison. You shoot down it and I think
- 28:33that was like 100 and like 405 yard shot go down, wasn't a pull
- 28:40and return, but then you go immediately to the right and
- 28:44then you're just shooting up that same mountain.
- 28:47It's all pull and returns. It seemed like they really used
- 28:51a lot of or utilized that mountain to get you.
- 28:53Yeah. I was cardio when we realized
- 28:56that, that you didn't have to go back up and over because I knew
- 29:01we came from the other side of that mountain.
- 29:03So I was like, there's no way. Well, they can't make you do
- 29:07this for three more targets. Like that's all that's left.
- 29:10Are we serious? But then we realized you pie cut
- 29:12the side of the mountain. I, I really like the prime
- 29:19course a lot, but what I thought was kind of fun is normally when
- 29:25I shoot any 3D course, I'm, you know, indexing the targets, I'm,
- 29:31you know, scoring. We did score it, but ahead of
- 29:36time we said, hey, we had a huge group.
- 29:39There was like 12 of us in the group and we were the last ones.
- 29:41We weren't holding anyone up. And in fact, we were actually
- 29:44pushing a group of two, which is very impressive.
- 29:46But be part of the efficiency was Scott and I had agreed
- 29:49prior, we said, hey, we'll score, but we're just using one
- 29:54range. So like one of us ranges it and
- 29:56people just shoot off it and no indexing.
- 29:58So we were literally just range, shoot, range shoot.
- 30:02So like and I learned that you can do that like off memory, you
- 30:06can do it somewhat. It definitely is going to reduce
- 30:09your score some for sure. But we didn't care.
- 30:11We're like we're just trying to hustle and have fun.
- 30:13So we're like just banging targets.
- 30:16And it was actually pretty fun to do it that way because
- 30:20normally, you know, it's like, OK, let me the twelves there and
- 30:24then like you're taking time and then shooting.
- 30:26This was just so nonchalant. Yeah, mystery and even more,
- 30:32more of a sense of challenge to it.
- 30:34Yeah, I didn't go along with that.
- 30:35Yeah, by any. Yeah, you were indexing, but my
- 30:37point is I had a lot of fun doing that with Scott and I
- 30:40think, did you index or no? No, I so yeah, you would there
- 30:43whip my buying us out if I did maybe like one time, but I don't
- 30:47think I would come out a single time.
- 30:48I did range a couple of times on my own just for some comparison,
- 30:54but. Yeah, I thought that was a fun
- 30:56way to do it. And then another thing I thought
- 31:00was fun about the trip was how we kind of mixed up the groups
- 31:03each day. So like we always shot with
- 31:05different groups and the so we shot with the our, our, our home
- 31:13team plus Jeff the first day, the second day we broke into two
- 31:17groups and shot. And then the third day we shot
- 31:21with the guy, guys from Adams Precision archery.
- 31:24Oh yeah, on elk course. And that was a lot of fun.
- 31:27They were real nervous, I thought.
- 31:28But we did 5 courses because we did 2 the last day we did
- 31:32loophole. Oh, that's right, that's right.
- 31:34That's right. And Loophole.
- 31:35Loophole might have been my favorite.
- 31:36It was. We just had our freaking group
- 31:38of Elvis and this one, yeah, the video concept was great.
- 31:41It was a lot sometimes. Those are always fun when it's
- 31:44just like the the main group that we're like staying with
- 31:48and. I can't wait to see that that
- 31:50clip come out of you interviewing Brittany.
- 31:54And so you worried. About I made a short out of it.
- 31:56You worried? About him hitting a talk, she
- 31:58goes. Not at all.
- 32:00Yeah, that you dream just like. About planning on it.
- 32:04But so you said you were, you know, a little bit nervous the
- 32:08whole time, a lot of bit nervous, but somewhat, somewhat
- 32:11because of the people you were shooting with.
- 32:12So like shooting with Josh and shooting with Jeff.
- 32:16So then the last day we throw him in with Josh Bomar.
- 32:20Dude, what a. Guy Dude was the best guy.
- 32:22But I'm saying, were you like goddamn it?
- 32:24I thought I was going to get a mellow day to not be so goddamn.
- 32:27Purpose. At that point I was you were
- 32:28getting used to. It by then a little bit I.
- 32:30Think my body was just, I've been, I was shaking so much the
- 32:35past two days that my body's all, well, I mean, yeah, you're
- 32:38nervous, but you're not going to shake us bad.
- 32:40And plus, I did switch. I shot my oh, you shot the hand
- 32:44well, and that was a crazy change.
- 32:47Freaking in the middle of tack. But you changed on the ELF
- 32:50course. So I changed on the ultra view
- 32:54court I shot. So first shoot at the
- 32:59Jacqueline's course, I shot my UV button and just punching the
- 33:04hell out of it. I was like like I would go into
- 33:07the shot mentally like preparing myself dude, just go through
- 33:10emotions, don't punch trigger. But I had so much float like
- 33:14I've only been shooting the proven 34 for like a week.
- 33:17So I didn't have like it all balanced or anything.
- 33:19I definitely needed to add weight, which I did the last day
- 33:22which helped significantly. But my float was just so drastic
- 33:29that like, as soon as I held on that target for more than like
- 33:33half a second, I'll go fuck it, you know, would just punch it.
- 33:37And then I switched to the clicker because I brought I
- 33:40brought this. Oh man, dude.
- 33:42I've got to give a count real quick for the camera.
- 33:44So I had I have the my main one was the UV button, the the heavy
- 33:52heavy metal 1 I had in my arsenal the knock on 2 special,
- 33:57which was like the limited edition release.
- 33:59I didn't shoot that the weekend, but I brought it with me.
- 34:01It's a little two finger Carter that Dudley did a crab with.
- 34:08I had the Stan Onyx thumb clicker and resistance.
- 34:12I only shot the clicker and then I ended up buying the evolution
- 34:17outdoors Ibex hinge, which is a hell of a release.
- 34:21Man, I love that freaking thing. Who has 6 releases?
- 34:24I only shot 3 though. So you, you brought six, one of
- 34:30which I brought to you, right? Yeah, you brought the thumb.
- 34:34One of which you bought. You shot 3.
- 34:38You shot your button, your UV button, your clicker clicker and
- 34:44the hinge and four, if we count you shooting. 05 if we count
- 34:48bummers. I shot his reverse thumb
- 34:51prototype, which is a dude. You guys are going?
- 34:53To I don't know if I think he takes the prize, the trophy for
- 34:58the only person ever to go through that many releases in
- 35:03one. Well, so my favorite.
- 35:06I almost brought my freaking Carter RX1 index release.
- 35:09So if we. Pause for one second and take a
- 35:11look at this I. I just took a video, he looks.
- 35:13Ridiculous. This is insane.
- 35:15This is insane but so my favorite Joey moment of the
- 35:19weekend. Oh, here we go.
- 35:22I just, I just loved it. So we're on the Elk course and
- 35:26we had this fun concept where you got a bonus ball and the
- 35:29bonus ball had a wrap on the front of the arrow and it's
- 35:31worth double. So I had been saving mine deep
- 35:35into the round because I knew that me and my partner like had
- 35:38a lead while we were shooting strong.
- 35:40I knew we were dial but a shot finally caught and he's the only
- 35:45one left. Me and him have a bonus ball.
- 35:47It was like a 30 yard uphill mini elk.
- 35:50It's like at the very worst I should tend this hopefully 10 it
- 35:54or 12 it. So I go up first, bang A12,
- 35:58right? So I'm like, OK, I just got a 12
- 36:00with my bonus ball, 24 points. That's great.
- 36:04Joey goes all right, he puts on Hell's Bells, whoops, off that
- 36:08fun, plays. Hell's Bells, steps up to the
- 36:10cone, throws his phone. He had just switched to the
- 36:16hinge. I think maybe one target prior,
- 36:18but this was uphill, right? Yeah, I shot at.
- 36:20Him. So he draws into this and I'm
- 36:24filming. I happen to be vlogging it, so I
- 36:26have all this document. It's great.
- 36:29He pulls back and he's holding and holding and Holden everyone.
- 36:35'S just there in the middle of it and all of a sudden his
- 36:38mental supports that you keep pulling through.
- 36:40And his bow is moving like so much and I I'm feeling I just
- 36:45start busting up laughing. I can't contain so like.
- 36:49Everyone. Starts laughing.
- 36:50Which made it worse, by the way. Finally, Yahoo.
- 36:53Finally, his bow goes off. And he did tend it.
- 36:57He shot a tent. By the grace of God, thank you
- 37:00Jesus, and. Everyone in the bunch just lost
- 37:05it. It was.
- 37:05So funny I hit you not I've. I've only thrown or shot my
- 37:13release through my bill once and I'll play with you.
- 37:17I don't know how the hell that happened to this day, but I was
- 37:20all I was holding my breath for at least 45 seconds.
- 37:27Dude, I I'm pretty sure if you look hard enough, my face starts
- 37:31to turn purple into something. I'm I'm pushing and pulling and
- 37:38I'm waiting for the click. The click hits and that's when I
- 37:41start just shaking because it scared the piss out of me.
- 37:45Dude, I'm like. Oh.
- 37:48Oh OK. And I just keep pulling and then
- 37:51I was, I tried to punch it but I didn't know how to punch a hinge
- 37:54because I've only shot a hinge like 5 times.
- 37:56Fiber. Yet.
- 37:58Oh my. God freaking 50 seconds.
- 38:00Holding my breath at this point and I almost just let go of the
- 38:03release. I was like fuck.
- 38:05It this, I think my favorite was so you shot at the remainder of
- 38:10that course, I think, and then the next day we went out on the
- 38:16loophole course in the morning. And my favorites also in that
- 38:21clip where Britney tries to shit talk you and gets proven wrong
- 38:24is the the very beginning of the interview and it's just you in
- 38:29the background, like, you know, they're interviewing whatnot.
- 38:33You're getting prepped for your shot and you're just like, you
- 38:35literally test your arm. You're like, OK, we're because
- 38:40we're he's got this whole process going on now to make
- 38:45sure that his arm's going to be OK if you know for this hinge.
- 38:48I didn't want to knock anybody up.
- 38:49They didn't. If I hit him like I hit my
- 38:51button, they would have been freaking and.
- 38:53Then there was one point, I don't know if it got captured on
- 38:55camera or not, where they were too close and you literally
- 38:59advised them like some like you, you guys might need to back up
- 39:03because my arm flies back now. The only thing I do is surprise
- 39:09breaks now, so well, I followed through.
- 39:11I felt it. I thought it was cool.
- 39:13I felt pretty steezy doing that. You were steezy.
- 39:16So OK, so let me hop back into it.
- 39:17So day four shooting with the friggin or massive bunch.
- 39:22Shout out to this is going to be a list of shout outs here, but
- 39:26shout out to the Hunter podcast guys.
- 39:29Well, let's do. Bo Mar Sarah David.
- 39:33Friggin David is an unbelievable shooter.
- 39:37That guy, and he's so he. Makes me so calm.
- 39:39He makes me look like trash. That's how good he talks.
- 39:41Like so good. Falls that good up he talking
- 39:43shit. Oh, no, he does talk shit.
- 39:45Oh, boy, he talks shit, and I love it.
- 39:47He's such a nasty boy. But David so impressed that,
- 39:52yeah, just that whole group was so fun.
- 39:54And oh, Micah Morgan, dude, we got to talk about how efficient
- 39:57that guy is at filming. You don't even know.
- 39:59You don't even know. He's like a spider man.
- 40:01He's a little ninja. He's a.
- 40:02Ninja. Yeah, he's insane, I told him.
- 40:06He was getting out the the ember camera and he's probably only
- 40:11like 15 feet behind me, you know, with the bag on the
- 40:14ground, gets the camera out. I see him stand up.
- 40:16I look away for couldn't have been 2 seconds maximum, probably
- 40:21a second. And I turn back and all of a
- 40:23sudden he's 30 yards back. He's like, how did you do that?
- 40:27Like, and no sound made whatsoever.
- 40:30He just must have backed up like, you know, on his toes and
- 40:34also like done the Michael Jackson sliding backwards the
- 40:38moonwalk and disappeared 30 yards back.
- 40:41And I was like. He's.
- 40:44Got the time to get back there. That was his first time film
- 40:46filming for Bomar. Yeah.
- 40:48So you know, that guy is freaking like on it.
- 40:50He's all dude like and I don't think anybody could make a
- 40:54better first impression. Well, he was so impressive.
- 40:57I told him I was like, dude, I'm just very impressed with your.
- 40:59I do not want. To know what his day rate is.
- 41:02But but so that was awesome. Filming with him was awesome.
- 41:07Our huge group photo was so badass.
- 41:10I love our group photo Hard. It's so hard, so hard.
- 41:13And yeah, it was awesome. So I think, you know, I think, I
- 41:19think to sum it up, I mean, I think you came to a really good
- 41:22first tack. You did get thrown into a lot of
- 41:27situations that most people don't get thrown into.
- 41:29And I thought you handled it really well and had a freaking
- 41:33great time. So it was awesome, dude.
- 41:36So how even the 11 freaking? Yeah, we can't tell that story,
- 41:39but it is. Yeah.
- 41:40He he was a nasty boy one time. Oh yeah.
- 41:43Yeah, yeah. It was the only time like, oh,
- 41:45oh, jeans on peak. And it turned out fine.
- 41:48Yeah, it was totally fine. It was freaking.
- 41:51And then at the end of the prime course, Mr. Josh Bomar let me
- 41:56freaking stroke his 90. Tell me about that.
- 42:01I had to have been like you showed me that video of Micah
- 42:04stroking it like nothing. It looked like a 6 LB buff.
- 42:07I had to have been just freaking spent because.
- 42:11You were. Often trying to draw it uphill a
- 42:15steep hill. That's a factor I mean, we're
- 42:17only 20 yards away from. That, yeah, but still it's.
- 42:19Still, it's still an incline the whole way.
- 42:21It didn't, like, Peter out to a plateau at any point.
- 42:23So, you know, like, the most plateau you might have had was
- 42:26right around the target where people had been, you know,
- 42:29pounded in ground and pulling arrows all weekend.
- 42:32But. That was the after the last
- 42:34target of the entire trip and I could like my endurance I
- 42:42thought was pretty good. So I didn't think that it was
- 42:46like muscle fatigue but after seeing I could do it and how my
- 42:51shoulders felt as soon as I got on that bus like it like just to
- 42:55hold my front hand, my delt was just on fire.
- 42:58Like I did some freaking delt like burnout workout on my
- 43:02delts. I was like twice but.
- 43:05Let me ask you, so you said the vendors was like, you know,
- 43:09Disneyland you liked all the shooting courses, Although I do
- 43:13think the beast course at BD Challenge was probably stronger
- 43:17than all the courses. It's not even questionable.
- 43:20It was so that was Beast was insane and so was Podium
- 43:22actually and Tricer, just in different ways.
- 43:25All of them. All of them.
- 43:26They all are. But the difference is we only
- 43:29have to do one event a year. So like we can really dump all
- 43:31the time into making the shots like so epic, whereas they're
- 43:34doing like 15 of them and the courses are all still so
- 43:37excellent. But what was your thoughts on
- 43:42the practice range? Like just like, did you think it
- 43:46was cool how many targets are out there and options?
- 43:49And it would have been nice if it was flat.
- 43:52I would. If you want to shoot further,
- 43:55further than, I mean 40 yards, you're going to be winded by the
- 43:58time you go back to your butt or all the time you get to the
- 44:00target. I thought it was steep too.
- 44:02It doesn't look that steep, but. Till you start walking up and
- 44:05then you're like. Deceiving, but yeah.
- 44:07I'm going to shoot the close targets.
- 44:09Yeah, that's basically what I did.
- 44:11Yeah, and there was like a plateau and then it got like
- 44:14Steve again. I don't think I ever shot past
- 44:17that like 60 yard plateau. I think the very first ones I
- 44:20did I did it was like 70 something and after that I shot
- 44:24everything like 60 and in because I didn't feel like
- 44:26hiking up mountain. Title.
- 44:28It doesn't make sense though that they put it on on a hill
- 44:31that steep because if you do miss a target but you're only
- 44:34going well in the ground. I mean, if the ground wasn't as
- 44:37wet as it was, arrows would have been so much easier to find.
- 44:41The I mean the everything was so saturated that your arrow would
- 44:45just freaking bury to the notch. One of my first ones at the
- 44:48practice range before I knew that I had equipment issues.
- 44:54I, I shot like I don't know where in relation to somewhere
- 45:00right around the target. I mean, and it was at 76 yards I
- 45:04think. So like, I know my arrow didn't
- 45:05go that far in this 76 yards up this hill.
- 45:10So like it's going to be somewhere right there.
- 45:11James walks up with me. Could not find that arrow to
- 45:14save my life. Never found it.
- 45:16And I almost guarantee as like that one on prime where we
- 45:18started digging and it was like a trophy mine of arrows.
- 45:23Like we just kept pulling arrows out of the the mud or the salt
- 45:28almost. $200 worth of arrows and they were all good.
- 45:32So I guarantee that's also what happened to mine.
- 45:34It's like it's just that ground was so moist and soft from all
- 45:39the rain that they've gotten that everything was just burying
- 45:43into the dirt. And I don't often have that
- 45:45problem with my arrows, but I think mine took a digger into
- 45:48that that soft ground. But I was going to say, so how
- 45:53do you like you're just thoughts, not, you know, like
- 45:56rating or anything like that thoughts And like a shoot at
- 46:00this size capacity, like the amount that goes into setting
- 46:07up, you know, 8 to 10 courses in A1 given area in comparison to
- 46:13like doing local sheets, I guess.
- 46:16And like your your thoughts on it and just having participated
- 46:20in the whole thing in general archery wise.
- 46:25Yes. So they are definitely efficient
- 46:29with the space. I mean, I don't know how big the
- 46:32venue is, like the the size of the mountain, given it's a
- 46:35skiers or in Pennsylvania. I can't imagine it's that big.
- 46:39You know, it's pretty limited because I mean, I'm pretty sure
- 46:42that's only freaking hill and in Pennsylvania flying out.
- 46:45I thought for sure it was going to be flatland everywhere, but
- 46:48they they they found it and they definitely made utilized it.
- 46:54I think the best way that they could have.
- 46:59I would have liked to see more technical shots.
- 47:04I maybe it's just because I I'm such a fan of the way Jam sets
- 47:10up his course and the way he set up Beast.
- 47:13Dude was like, I still am freaking talking about that to
- 47:19everybody that wasn't there. Like I chopped Bruce's ass all
- 47:22the time. Like did you miss the best
- 47:25course? Like you will love that thing.
- 47:28So I, I really like the challenging shots.
- 47:31But given the, the incident that happened, I think at the tech
- 47:35prior to that, I understand why they did what they did.
- 47:40They didn't want to. I mean, I think they ended up
- 47:44having to use up a lot of their real estate to make most of the
- 47:49targets, like the pie cuts, as we call them.
- 47:51Yeah, basically pulling returns. Yeah, but not like pulling.
- 47:55Well, and that and that's and that's that's the thing to
- 47:57remember always is pulling returns are very safe.
- 48:04They're like the safest shots you can build because you go
- 48:07pull and then you watch the people come past and once
- 48:10they're pat like back to their stuff, you you know, you can
- 48:12shoot. I prefer courses that are a walk
- 48:15through trail the whole way, like all of bow disciples
- 48:18challenge. There was only one pull and
- 48:19return that got put in last minute, but that's what I
- 48:23prefer. But for safety I understand all
- 48:25the pie cuts and pull and returns because those.
- 48:27Are well, I think it also has to just do with the, and this is I
- 48:30think the fun part of the out TAC because there's so many of
- 48:35them and different terrain options, though that is now I
- 48:39think the biggest TAC event for the amount of people that attend
- 48:45in right there with Utah's terrain wise, I don't think you
- 48:53get as much as what you get at say Montana's, Colorado's or
- 48:59Utah's. And so those you get a lot more
- 49:05technical shots because you're like, it's either your shot, it
- 49:09goes in the target or goes in rocks or it hits trees or like,
- 49:12well, I've seen windows like friggin this big, like tiny.
- 49:16So it's fun because, you know, say you're like who?
- 49:19That one was fun and I got a lot out of the vendor village.
- 49:23But I want to try something that I think the train would be more
- 49:25technical. Then the next year, like OK, I'm
- 49:27going to plan to try to go to Utah's or Colorado's or whatever
- 49:31because you get options or say you shooting those all the time
- 49:36and you just want to try a different state like we did this
- 49:38year with going to all of them. But Oklahoma's or whatever.
- 49:42Which I was actually surprised at the amount of they utilize
- 49:48technical shots and windows a lot because of the amount of
- 49:51trees in Oklahoma. So I thought that was because
- 49:54you don't have the the topography as much.
- 49:56You get some little hills but nothing as far as like a
- 50:00mountain goes. Scott and I were kicking the
- 50:04tires on maybe some of the events we want to do next year
- 50:09and. It's kicking the tires, I mean.
- 50:11Just like throwing around ideas, you know?
- 50:14But we both kind of agreed that Oklahoma would probably be on
- 50:17both our lists again. I think so.
- 50:19I think that one's just a good fun time.
- 50:22He's like, honestly I would just, it would be cool if we
- 50:25could even just get the same Airbnb.
- 50:27Yeah, the courses were good enough that they weren't boring
- 50:31by any means. And I don't think there was
- 50:34probably a single tack out there that has boring courses because
- 50:37of how they choose to set. Up we we We thought this would
- 50:43be our last tack event of the year, but it turns out we have
- 50:48made a late addition of Montana. Audible baby.
- 50:53Which Montana is a new Montana location?
- 50:58Oh, it's an all beat Sky, no. No, it's called Red Lodge Red
- 51:02Lodge and so it's a new location so I'll never mind.
- 51:05So this will actually be my 11th different tac location I've been
- 51:09to. Oh, I thought you were going to
- 51:10say this year. I'm like.
- 51:11No, this year I'd only be 4, which is I said I would go to
- 51:15two every year I say, oh, this year I'm going to only do 2 and
- 51:17then I always end up doing like 3 or 4, which is fine.
- 51:21Like I, you know, if my, like, I think it's good to have two
- 51:26planned and then be like, well, if my schedule happens to align
- 51:29with any of the others and there's nothing going on, just
- 51:32blast out there, you know, because why not?
- 51:34They're fun, good chance to mingle, meet, meet people that
- 51:37support the show. Like to me, that's important is
- 51:40being able to shake paws with people that have supported the
- 51:44show, you know? So what better place to do it
- 51:47than, you know, a huge collection of Archers, you know
- 51:51what I mean? That's awesome.
- 51:52So it was bitching and then so we did a little vacation after.
- 52:00Oh, we're still talking about tech.
- 52:01We. Can go oh, we're we're about.
- 52:03OK, you don't want to get into my my or what is it?
- 52:09Popping my cherry with my first fan.
- 52:12Oh yeah, telling the story. This is a banger.
- 52:14So. Shout out to you, you know he's
- 52:16probably watching. Yeah, Chris, Chris, I don't know
- 52:19his Instagram, but so I'm shooting at the practice range.
- 52:23I think it was right after we shot R and the F I'm like, did I
- 52:28got to get this hinge freaking figured out like it was I needed
- 52:31to get a little bit hotter. I'm silly, Shannon and Chris
- 52:35comes up to me and as I turn around to like hang up my bow
- 52:39and he goes, hey dude, I saw you yesterday.
- 52:42I got a picture with Brie and Britt.
- 52:44I think you said you got a picture with you too.
- 52:46He goes, but I I wasn't able to get a photo with you.
- 52:49I really want to get a photo with you and I'm still there.
- 52:52I'm like range is mine. So I'm like me.
- 52:59He goes, yeah, I'm all. Are you sure?
- 53:04Like what are you talking about? And he goes with both samples.
- 53:09He was like, can't get a picture with you.
- 53:11I'm like. Why?
- 53:16Because I'm just a dude that freaking like I love, I love
- 53:19hopping on your, your videos, dude.
- 53:21It's so much fun. I'm just a humble Papa like,
- 53:25well, I'm, I'm a shitty shooter. I don't know that that's true
- 53:32because in the playoff game, people are going to see the
- 53:34playoff game soon. Yeah.
- 53:36You know, yeah, yeah. Yeah, he's like, I don't know, I
- 53:46guess freaking he likes what I had to contribute to the
- 53:52channel. Yeah, I didn't know I did, but
- 53:56oh, I did. It was pretty cool.
- 53:58And sat there and chatted with him for quite a while, just
- 54:02shooting the shit and having like a real conversation with
- 54:06somebody. So it was.
- 54:09It was very humbling, very, very uncomfortable at first.
- 54:13I. Was like what I'm not James.
- 54:17We all look down like I mean we're both good looking though.
- 54:20Great. He's way better looking.
- 54:23But yeah, shout out to Chris. I was I was a cool experience.
- 54:26He hit me up the other day. I don't think I I typed up a
- 54:32response, but I don't think I sent it, so I'm not guessing you
- 54:36did. But shout out to Chris.
- 54:39He wants me to come do a podcast with him.
- 54:43Maybe like recapping the whole thing, maybe my experience with
- 54:46you and whatnot. And Speaking of which, like I
- 54:51said earlier, I was a fan of James's before I became a friend
- 54:55of his and now I consider him. I consider you like one of my
- 54:58best friends. Now you.
- 54:59Too Buddy, look at this bonding right now.
- 55:03I love it. Yeah, a lot of times, like you
- 55:06see a personality on the Internet, mainly on YouTube, and
- 55:12they put on a persona that is very different from what they
- 55:16actually are. Or that persona ends up getting
- 55:21so inflated and they get so much traction that they almost get
- 55:25full of themselves. And I will say, dude, you are
- 55:33who you are on camera is exactly who you are in real life.
- 55:36And you're a genuinely good dude.
- 55:38And if anybody says anything other than that, you know, we
- 55:45can catch these hands. Luckily, there's only about
- 55:48bodyguard. Luckily, there's only I
- 55:52appreciate the kind of words. Luckily, there's only there's
- 55:54probably less than five people that have have an issue with.
- 55:56Me, that's not directed towards anybody particularly, but.
- 56:00No, I appreciate that. I mean, I mean, for me it's, I
- 56:03think that it's like, I don't know, I just, I've been doing
- 56:11videos for so long in my life. Like I said, I put my first
- 56:16video on the Internet in 2000, in 2007.
- 56:19So I mean, I've literally been pumping out content on the
- 56:22Internet for almost 20 years. It's a long time, you know.
- 56:26So for me, it's just like, I don't know, to me it's like I
- 56:31don't even think about the camera at all.
- 56:33I'm just like, you know, maybe I'll throw an extra joke in or
- 56:37something here and there or that like, but it's like everything I
- 56:40do is just what I would do anyways.
- 56:43Like even if I didn't have the YouTube channel or like let's
- 56:46say I had it, but nobody watched it, I would still do the same
- 56:50thing. And there's you can go watch,
- 56:53you can go watch that. I did that.
- 56:54You know what I mean? Because I literally went through
- 56:56the channel actually earlier today and I was looking through
- 56:59old videos and I mean there's a bunch of them that have like
- 57:02like 68 views, like a lot, you know?
- 57:05So like we literally were doing the same shit when nobody
- 57:09watched and now the only difference is more people watch.
- 57:12That's the only difference. Yeah, I think it also has like
- 57:17being behind the camera and being a YouTube personality.
- 57:22It also amplifies your ability to interact with people, makes
- 57:27you so much more of a people person.
- 57:29If you guys think that he's only high energy when the cameras on,
- 57:33you are dead wrong, dude. This dude will wake up.
- 57:35He'll freaking tie one on harder than anybody else the night
- 57:38before and then wake up in the like 6:30 in the morning and
- 57:43just ready to go. Dude, I don't know.
- 57:45You're the freaking Energizer. Energizer Bunny on crack.
- 57:49Oh, to do with people the morning when we when we so the
- 57:53day we had to pack and check out by 10.
- 57:57I was such a demon dude to everybody.
- 57:59I, I mean, everyone's kind of like, Hey, we take our time, get
- 58:02packed and I get up and I'm basically like.
- 58:05Yeah. Let's go, Joey, what's taking so
- 58:09long up there? Brett, where's your case?
- 58:11I'm just on. Everybody asks about going
- 58:14faster. I've been hunting brand.
- 58:16I can tell you I'm absolute menace at like 4:00 AM dude.
- 58:19Dude, yeah, you and Drew are. Yeah, probably.
- 58:25I would love to see you guys in hunting camp together dude
- 58:28because like. They'd be looking at each other
- 58:30on the but can run faster up the mountain.
- 58:32Do you think you could do it faster?
- 58:33No, I think I could do it faster.
- 58:35And eventually they just both be sprinting up the mountain to see
- 58:38who can make it to the top first and get their glassing equipment
- 58:41out like it would be, I think, obnoxious.
- 58:44I'd be back there. Just do, do, do.
- 58:46Do you guys go on your way? I'll be there in 20 minutes or
- 58:50so. Can I share a story about my OH?
- 58:53Sure these do. OK, so we started in one unit,
- 59:00didn't have any luck. We glassed up.
- 59:03I glassed up like a herd of like probably a handful of bowls in a
- 59:09just a gang of of cows, but they were across the street and there
- 59:15was ranches that kind of blocked the access to them.
- 59:18So the only access to that herd was going up this fire road and
- 59:23dropping literally like almost 2000 feet within like 100 yards.
- 59:28And we would have had to follow this telephone pole line blew
- 59:31up, went up, took a look at it, decided against it.
- 59:36So then we drove, I want to say it was like 5-6 hours to another
- 59:41unit and the night that we got to that unit, we parked, I want
- 59:48to say around like 15,000 feet. I don't think we expected any
- 59:53weather. I mean it was kind of like
- 59:56misting or like drizzling on and off throughout our trip out
- 59:58there, but nothing crazy. Well, the way we were camping.
- 1:00:03We pull up the the truck. Drews Heinrich's just a friggin
- 1:00:10for how much? He dude, he.
- 1:00:11Beats the hell out of that thing and it just keeps going.
- 1:00:14F-150, baby. But he has canvas cutters and
- 1:00:19his son set him up, kind of. He helped the truck.
- 1:00:25Come off the side of. The truck literally no.
- 1:00:28So it's it's almost like a bed roll, but you got your canvas
- 1:00:32shell, which is completely waterproof.
- 1:00:36Then you have your bedding pad inside of it and then these
- 1:00:42almost like tent poles that you set up to kind of give you a
- 1:00:45little bit of a shell to sleep inside of.
- 1:00:48It's almost like sleeping in a coffin if you're claustrophobic.
- 1:00:52I mean, just you don't zip it up all the way, but I I didn't I've
- 1:00:58never experienced these things and he had them already set up
- 1:01:01ready to go. So I just set it up to where the
- 1:01:03bed pad was freaking facing up crawled in it.
- 1:01:09The warm. They're so freaking warm.
- 1:01:11Those things are awesome. Well, but the the insulation
- 1:01:18that they provide, like I don't think I even had to pull my
- 1:01:21quilt out once, but set them out sleep on them three days.
- 1:01:26Great freaking night's sleep. When we get to the new unit that
- 1:01:31night, we set them up and it's just starts pouring rain like we
- 1:01:38probably got like 6 inches overnight and I'm sitting there
- 1:01:42and do ice. I shoot you not I thought I
- 1:01:44pissed myself because I woke up. I'm all.
- 1:01:48Because your swamp I'm. Snowing my ass is soaking wet.
- 1:01:51Just soaking wet. Elmo What?
- 1:01:53The you just got swamp ass. No, dude.
- 1:01:55So his son set it up upside down.
- 1:01:58So where you zip it up, there's flaps that come over the
- 1:02:01zippers. Well, the zippers aren't
- 1:02:03waterproof, so the flaps were coming up, so all the rain that
- 1:02:07would hit the top of it would run down the sides of it and
- 1:02:11seep in through the zippers. Dude, I woke up in like the
- 1:02:15first time and I, I like, I was feeling myself.
- 1:02:17I'm like, dude, did I piss myself?
- 1:02:19I'm like, that's fucking embarrassing, you know?
- 1:02:22And I'm like sitting there smelling it, like seeing like
- 1:02:24what the fuck it is because it's just a puddle where my ass is
- 1:02:27because that's like the heaviest.
- 1:02:29That was the part closest to the bottom of the.
- 1:02:31Your ass is the heaviest. Dude, I got a dump.
- 1:02:36God damn that. Thing is thick but I kind of
- 1:02:40like readjust. I'm like it's water, maybe I
- 1:02:42spilled my water bottle or something, fall back asleep and
- 1:02:46then I wake up my shoulders soaked my entire like I'm a side
- 1:02:49sleeper so my entire rice on my body is soaking wet.
- 1:02:53It's like 80 during the day and drops to like 30 like probably
- 1:02:5935 at night. So it's fucking cold at night
- 1:03:03and I'm like feeling around in the dark, get my headlamp on,
- 1:03:08like turn it on and there is, I shit you not like an inch or two
- 1:03:12of water in inside of my canvas cutter everywhere.
- 1:03:16And I'm like, Oh no, what the fuck, dude.
- 1:03:20I I was so quick. I'm like.
- 1:03:24Fuck these things. These things are shit blah blah,
- 1:03:27blah. Like I and it was like at 2:00
- 1:03:29in the morning and from 2:00 till about 4:30 when Drew wakes
- 1:03:34up, I'm sitting there just miserable, like shivering my ass
- 1:03:37off and Drew freaking pops out of his canvas cutter.
- 1:03:40He goes all right, guys, you guys ready to go come on guys,
- 1:03:44this guy and I'm sitting like I pop, I freaking, I hear he's up
- 1:03:47and I just RIP it open them all. Fuck these things, dude.
- 1:03:50These things are bullshit blah blah.
- 1:03:52Like also I'm soaking wet and just miserable and it's freezing
- 1:03:58outside so I'm I'm absolutely drenched.
- 1:04:02I'm in like 35° weather, drew as chipper as fuck and I am just
- 1:04:07like. And that just makes you a bit
- 1:04:09more irritated. I might leave.
- 1:04:11We were going to go out and scout our area that day.
- 1:04:15I'm all leave the truck keys dude, I'm staying in the truck
- 1:04:17friggin with the heater on. I am like borderline going to
- 1:04:20catch pneumonia right now. I go to friggin throw my Crocs
- 1:04:23on and friggin my Crocs are filled with water and I'm just
- 1:04:27it was just not a good time. But we come come to find out
- 1:04:31that the canvas cutter was the shell was upside down.
- 1:04:34So all the water came in through the zippers.
- 1:04:39But I don't know how you freaking held it together.
- 1:04:44But he just he keeps the same type of energy, you guys or you
- 1:04:47keep it. You guys are just so positive
- 1:04:49and freaking. That dude is an absolute
- 1:04:51freaking pack meal of a of a dude.
- 1:04:54It'll go and how old is he? Like 3638 or something or
- 1:04:59something like that? Yeah, it's like 4 or 6 years
- 1:05:03older than I am and he's just free to dude Billy goat.
- 1:05:06Oh yeah. Goes and you wouldn't think of
- 1:05:09it or you wouldn't think it, but yeah, great, great hunting
- 1:05:15partner. Very, very blessed to have been
- 1:05:19invited on that trip even though I've screwed up our only shot
- 1:05:23opportunity that we had it. Happens, man.
- 1:05:25Yeah, it was just cool to get out there and get at least a Rep
- 1:05:28and. Oh, first dude.
- 1:05:30I mean, that's what it's all about.
- 1:05:31It's just the experience and. I could not even imagine you
- 1:05:35guys in hunting camp together. You guys would bring just the
- 1:05:38biggest vibe. It'll have to happen,
- 1:05:41absolutely. Right, so you should you should
- 1:05:43plan some some dirty sea hunt where we just go out and.
- 1:05:47I'm in. And just James loves camping so
- 1:05:49much, you know. I do, I do, I do like it.
- 1:05:52Is it grown like you? Yeah, a little bit.
- 1:05:54Yeah. Now one thing I want to get.
- 1:05:57To oh. We're past an hour.
- 1:05:58Oh, I had to. I had some questions lined up.
- 1:06:01Oh, you have questions? Yeah, OK.
- 1:06:03You get your questions. I'm going to save my thing for
- 1:06:04last. You obviously got to I think one
- 1:06:07of the best experiences honestly, other than like a lot
- 1:06:09of cool different courses and so many to choose from and whatnot.
- 1:06:13Whereas like, you know, you might your local shoots like the
- 1:06:16same every time, maybe a little different variation, but coolest
- 1:06:21thing is like it's basically like going to an X milk, but you
- 1:06:23get to try stuff and use stuff and touch it.
- 1:06:26Feel like what not What was probably your favorite booth?
- 1:06:31Or you could give a top couple that you got to go see or talk
- 1:06:35to be either the people or the product itself or your favorite
- 1:06:42one or two unbiased. You know, just so you got to
- 1:06:44walk around what was your favorite to get to see,
- 1:06:47experience, talk to, etcetera. So probably the one that I had
- 1:06:57the most rapport with or I built the most rapport with was
- 1:07:01probably Index ENDEX. They're a nonprofit veteran
- 1:07:08support organization that from what I gathered, they do
- 1:07:13incredible things for vets with PTSD, or I mean, just vets in
- 1:07:17general. But being a bet, I mean, my
- 1:07:20military career wasn't what I wanted it to be, but I am very
- 1:07:24supportive of the veteran community.
- 1:07:26And I just like to see small organizations like that because
- 1:07:33that's when you know that they're the most pure and
- 1:07:36they're more, they're the most like mission focused.
- 1:07:41Jay came out freaking by the end of the the trip would have
- 1:07:49thought where we none each other for freaking years.
- 1:07:51Just hell of a dude. Love what they do.
- 1:07:55Ended up they had a little raffle and it was like $5 to
- 1:08:02$100. Thank God.
- 1:08:04I didn't want to bow. I probably would have given that
- 1:08:07back to him because I just saw that they had something for like
- 1:08:11a like a fundraiser and it was a raffle and it's like $5 for a
- 1:08:17ticket or like I don't know, or maybe it's $20.00 for a ticket
- 1:08:21and then like 6 for 100 and I had 100.
- 1:08:25So I was all here. Dude gave me some tickets, ended
- 1:08:28up winning two raffles. I got a a set of stabilizers and
- 1:08:34the second one was a pair of sheep feet socks, which those
- 1:08:39things are great. I really, really like those.
- 1:08:41They felt they're super thin, but they're definitely the
- 1:08:45temperature regulating. But yeah, I was very, that was a
- 1:08:51very good first impression of the booths.
- 1:08:54And then went over to when it started getting really cold.
- 1:09:00I needed another layer and I saw the 2O booth next to the check
- 1:09:05in, went over there, started chit chatting with them.
- 1:09:08They're more of like a budget friendly hunting clothing.
- 1:09:12Yeah, they're they're typically. I love their pattern.
- 1:09:14I just wish that female stuff. Oh, they don't have.
- 1:09:17They don't have female. Light at all?
- 1:09:19Not yet. They're too new.
- 1:09:20Yeah, they're trying to expand. So that's like they're kind of
- 1:09:24sister companies with a lot of other big name like budget
- 1:09:28companies like sent the sent lock.
- 1:09:30I want to say it is sent lock or sent Bakker or something like
- 1:09:32that. But they're I think that section
- 1:09:372O is trying to expand or move from like the East Coast
- 1:09:41whitetail game or. They're killer.
- 1:09:43Greater West Coast to out West, yeah.
- 1:09:45And that's what they're basing, Yeah, not.
- 1:09:48A lot of bright greens and whatnot, very tans, oranges,
- 1:09:52Browns and their camo patterns Fit a lot with like the
- 1:09:58sometimes you just never know what he's doing, but fit a lot
- 1:10:01with the West Coast rocky stuff. A lot of dry environment.
- 1:10:06Yeah, they were great, great people over there.
- 1:10:12Marsupial was another one, you know, I love.
- 1:10:15With them being as big as they are, you'd think that they
- 1:10:19wouldn't be as personal, you know?
- 1:10:22Yeah, but because, I mean, they had people freaking in and out
- 1:10:25of their booth the entire weekend.
- 1:10:27I mean, it was one of the most pop frequented booths, I would
- 1:10:30say. But very cool guys.
- 1:10:33And it's nice because I get, like, the raw experience of it.
- 1:10:36Because you guys are well known in the industry.
- 1:10:39I am not. But being with you, I see your
- 1:10:43interactions with vendors and then I'm able to see, like, the
- 1:10:47average person's interaction because that's who I am.
- 1:10:51Nobody knows me except for Chris.
- 1:10:57So it was cool to see you guys get treated one way and then go
- 1:11:03up to him and without them knowing our affiliation, being
- 1:11:08treated the same way. Yeah, that's our marsupial
- 1:11:12beast. Oh, yeah, Beast.
- 1:11:14I mean dude, I can't say enough good things about Bomar.
- 1:11:17I like him and Sarah. Both great.
- 1:11:22I mean that dude freaking helped.
- 1:11:24Gave me a lot of tips that helped me out with my target
- 1:11:26panic. Freaking Just a very selfless
- 1:11:29guy from what I gathered. Always the first one, like
- 1:11:35glassing for people's arrows, watching everyone shoot, being
- 1:11:39encouraging. I shoot the freaking target in
- 1:11:42the leg. He goes great shot man.
- 1:11:44He goes. He goes a little love, but he
- 1:11:46goes. He's all great break.
- 1:11:49Freaking awesome shot arrow look good flying dude, sick arrow
- 1:11:54building any anything that he can compliment you on, he'll
- 1:11:59compliment you on. Never say negative thing or like
- 1:12:02kind of chop your ass at all of it isn't the vibe you would get
- 1:12:06from a dude. So when I when we first pulled
- 1:12:12up and I saw him from a distance, we took him, I saw
- 1:12:18him, we took a break, went to go eat and I can't.
- 1:12:22I was all, dude, you know, Beaumar doesn't look as big as
- 1:12:25he does on camera. He had a puffy on.
- 1:12:28And then we get back a little bit.
- 1:12:30Yeah. James is all, really.
- 1:12:34Yeah, so I. Thought he he's bigger.
- 1:12:37I think the cracks on that. Man, I was like, Nah, just you
- 1:12:40didn't seem freaking like out of out of like he looked jacked,
- 1:12:44but I was like, I think he looks bigger on camera.
- 1:12:47And then we go back over to the booth right after and he takes
- 1:12:49his butt or he. I think he had his puffy on or
- 1:12:52puffy off. And I saw him and I turned James
- 1:12:55on. Where's James?
- 1:12:56Yeah, don't fucking say a word about what I've and.
- 1:13:03I'm so funny, dude. Well.
- 1:13:05Dude, I mean we're both the same freaking height and I have had
- 1:13:11quite the cocktail of gear back in my neck and so he I've got
- 1:13:17nowhere near as big as that dude and it is hard to fill a
- 1:13:20freaking tall frame. Like most of those professional
- 1:13:22bodybuilders are between like 5/8 to 5/10 at the.
- 1:13:26At the mats, high end, Yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:28And. A lot of them are like. 55 Yeah,
- 1:13:30you. I never know.
- 1:13:31But Josh is a big dude. Josh is a freaking massive dude
- 1:13:34and a hell of a guy. Freaking great heart.
- 1:13:36Really good guy. I'm a big fan I.
- 1:13:38So I, I, I'll go ahead and. I know, I know.
- 1:13:41I'm well. Moving on, what would you say if
- 1:13:46you know like a recap the the best thing you think you learned
- 1:13:54out of the experience or just learned in general by attending
- 1:13:59attack? Yeah, like your your number one
- 1:14:04take away. So what I learned is that on a
- 1:14:08boat like your cams don't need to be buried to the right
- 1:14:11Ernest. So tune your freaking bow that
- 1:14:16just freaking no, your side picture doesn't need to have
- 1:14:19your playboard involved. For.
- 1:14:21A Reese more than anything, like my take away is like the most
- 1:14:30positive thing that I took away is that all the big
- 1:14:33personalities that I've been watching on YouTube that I
- 1:14:36didn't know in person or have any affiliation with, we're
- 1:14:41very, I mean, everybody's just so cool in the archery
- 1:14:44community. You know, I got a very raw
- 1:14:48encounter with with with Josh the last day we were at the
- 1:14:53Airbnb when he took off. He came up, give me a big hug,
- 1:14:58told me if I ever need anything to hit him up.
- 1:15:00What not then It's just nice, nice to see people with the the
- 1:15:09fame that they have be as down to earth and as humble as they
- 1:15:13are. Yeah.
- 1:15:14You know, I mean, I don't know everybody.
- 1:15:17I mean, James is the only one that I know very intimately.
- 1:15:21Oh yeah. Baby.
- 1:15:22But first impressions and being in in like very close quarters
- 1:15:31with people, I was very impressed with like how how Josh
- 1:15:35was as a person. Very good dude.
- 1:15:38Dodds was a awesome dude. I've had a little bit of a tiff
- 1:15:45with them. At first he was just chatting my
- 1:15:47ass, man. I'm like, dude, I'm already
- 1:15:49freaking nervous. This, we don't even add on to
- 1:15:51this, just talking. But I mean that.
- 1:15:56I love that regardless. Yeah, I'm a freaking.
- 1:15:59I'm a very competitive guy. Rarely do people get in my head
- 1:16:02by that, that that dude got in there.
- 1:16:06Everybody's just can't say enough good things about
- 1:16:09everybody. And thank you guys for the
- 1:16:11opportunity for I'm going to invite me on the trip.
- 1:16:15I'm glad to get to go to more, more, more of them in different
- 1:16:18locations because I think it's just and sometimes, you know,
- 1:16:22there's different vendors and obviously different people in
- 1:16:25attendance and whatnot. And I think that is the coolest
- 1:16:29thing about it because you take yourself out of your local
- 1:16:32environment and a local environment is great.
- 1:16:34You always find your experts that you rely on and lean on for
- 1:16:37opinions and you know, questions and whatnot.
- 1:16:40Yeah, your go to people, but that's, you know, that's
- 1:16:43localized and getting to go to attack.
- 1:16:46You just get to from people like Josh who are are, you know, bow
- 1:16:52shop owners as well and knowledgeable to like your
- 1:16:56average stranger who you might just hear something or, you
- 1:17:00know, see a setup that you're like, Jim, tell me about that
- 1:17:03because like, I wouldn't have thought of that.
- 1:17:04And then it clicks. You're like, God, that makes
- 1:17:06sense. Like I'd like to try that or
- 1:17:07whatever. You just pick up little things
- 1:17:10here and there from be it a stranger to a professional or an
- 1:17:13influencer or an expert or whatever that you may not see at
- 1:17:19home just because it's not something that is at home.
- 1:17:22Yeah, a lot of things are region based, you know, Yep, different
- 1:17:25people. So yeah, you do get a lot of lot
- 1:17:27of other people's way of doing things, which is cool.
- 1:17:32And brands that you don't like get to see here or whatever that
- 1:17:36like are at the vendor village because they're East Coast based
- 1:17:39or whatever. And it changes based on the tech
- 1:17:44you're at, so I think it's cool to go to different ones.
- 1:17:48And both the vendor village and the courses, everything changes
- 1:17:52at every tack as well as the town itself.
- 1:17:55Like this town, you didn't have as much to go out and do, but
- 1:18:00then that changes. Like that's why Oklahoma may not
- 1:18:03be one of like the shining star tax, but the town makes it that
- 1:18:08because it's like it's still you're still in this little
- 1:18:12essentially mountain town in those not mountains, but such a
- 1:18:16fun vibe in the everything's named.
- 1:18:18I'm gonna say again, everything's named after sex in
- 1:18:21the whole town. In Oklahoma, In Oklahoma in.
- 1:18:24Broken Bow. In Broken Bow.
- 1:18:27Yeah, it's classic. But it's funny and there's like
- 1:18:30it's family friendly as well because like you could bring
- 1:18:33your family and stay at one of the Airbnb cabins and the family
- 1:18:37can go to there's a petting zoo, a bowling alley, a bunch of
- 1:18:42different restaurants. And then one of the restaurants
- 1:18:45has like actual like line dancing and in out upper deck,
- 1:18:48lower deck, like just so much to do in this little town.
- 1:18:55And so it's just all town dependent on like what
- 1:18:59experience you get out of the tack.
- 1:19:01And sometimes that makes attack. Other times it's the event in
- 1:19:04the vendors itself that makes attack.
- 1:19:08So I'm. Just so impressed.
- 1:19:10Like I don't even know the a sliver of what it takes to put
- 1:19:15on a shoe. We have this.
- 1:19:17I think they employed. So freaking use me.
- 1:19:21I'm like dude, hit me up anytime like I want to help and I mean.
- 1:19:25You did a sort party. Yeah.
- 1:19:27But I mean that was I would like to help out more if I can next
- 1:19:32year. I know it's a lot.
- 1:19:33For you next year, I'll put I'll put you up to it, but I wanted
- 1:19:37to before we're we're like an hour 20 right now.
- 1:19:41So this is long run time. This is long run time.
- 1:19:44But before we finish and maybe we'll do a part another one at
- 1:19:48some point because I do want to do more pods this for our next
- 1:19:52trip, I want to talk about Flight 93 Memorial that we went
- 1:20:01to because I was very impressed by it.
- 1:20:08I thought it was extremely well done.
- 1:20:13Very heavy, you know, very heavy.
- 1:20:16But like it was beautiful at the same time.
- 1:20:19So you would like do that walk by that wall.
- 1:20:22And then there's the gate with the rock and the like flight
- 1:20:25path, you know, and you're just walking out there and it's like
- 1:20:29really pretty. But you feel this like, wait,
- 1:20:32you feel that very daunting. You feel that something really
- 1:20:37gnarly happened. Very tragic.
- 1:20:39And and then like the visitor center when you're walking
- 1:20:43through and and seeing, you know, all of us are at age where
- 1:20:46we're we, we remembered not all of that remember.
- 1:20:49Yeah. And dude, a lot of those
- 1:20:53graphics were like really tough to look at.
- 1:20:56And then the phone. Calls the phone, calls.
- 1:20:59Wow. Forget about it.
- 1:21:00I was. Yeah, PSA there.
- 1:21:02If you ever go to it, if, if you feel too emotional at the time,
- 1:21:06are already affected, do not pick up the phones, no.
- 1:21:10I think even there you do have. To.
- 1:21:13Because that that that keeps the memory of those people that
- 1:21:16ended up real. I mean, they prevented that
- 1:21:23flight from crashing in. So the Capitol building, yeah,
- 1:21:27you know, And it was only like, I think. 20 minutes out, I think
- 1:21:3120. Minutes, 20 minutes out. 20-30
- 1:21:33minutes from from hitting their destination.
- 1:21:37And I mean, they're heroes dude. Those were the first heroes of
- 1:21:41the war. And one thing I, Scott and I
- 1:21:43talked about this yesterday, we were hanging out.
- 1:21:45We were talking about who they experienced.
- 1:21:48And I was really impressed by the people on the phone call
- 1:21:54because they know they're going to die like that.
- 1:21:57You know, they know they're dying.
- 1:21:59You're either hitting the Capitol building and you're
- 1:22:00dying or you're hitting the ground and you're dying, but
- 1:22:03you're not getting off that plane alive.
- 1:22:05And they didn't sound scared. At all only one one once a.
- 1:22:08Little bit shook, yeah. At the, at the and all of them,
- 1:22:12I mean I am rightfully so, all started.
- 1:22:15You could tell that they were trying to keep it together and
- 1:22:18then they just started breaking down and.
- 1:22:20I was just just. Kept repeating I want you to
- 1:22:24know I love you, tell the family I love you, tell the kids I love
- 1:22:27you. She just couldn't stop repeating
- 1:22:29it. Yeah, she was so heavy and I was
- 1:22:32just so impressed with how composed all the people on those
- 1:22:36phone calls were. It was very impressive when you
- 1:22:39think about the just the weight of the call they're making and
- 1:22:43how kept together they were. Wonder how short their their
- 1:22:48voicemails were because you'd think like, I wouldn't want to
- 1:22:51hang up the phone. Well, they're probably, but
- 1:22:52they're they're like, they literally felt this need to get
- 1:22:58off the phone to allow everybody this chance to try to speak to a
- 1:23:02loved. One and the one where like the
- 1:23:03lady gave like her, you know, combo to her safe to her sister
- 1:23:07and stuff. Just like it's heavy, you know,
- 1:23:10because sure, when you're on the call you, you might have a, you
- 1:23:14know, a thought that like maybe somehow we'll make it out of it.
- 1:23:17But it's like, you know, you're not going to like, and that's
- 1:23:19the crazy part about it. Because either scenario, the
- 1:23:24only difference is 1 of the scenarios, more people die and
- 1:23:26there's more damage because you hit, you hit a building.
- 1:23:28The other version is the best case scenario, but everyone on
- 1:23:32the plane still dies. Then everyone.
- 1:23:34It was just heavy, dude. Or there's a scenario, I mean,
- 1:23:38maybe there's a pilot on the plane that could if they.
- 1:23:41Oh yeah, hope. Yeah.
- 1:23:42But that's like some real unlikely.
- 1:23:44Yeah, yeah. But even those planes like yeah,
- 1:23:47there's, I do have a book in. There 5000 gallons of freaking
- 1:23:50jet fuel. Oh dude, that was another thing
- 1:23:52that blew. Anything up like?
- 1:23:54That dude, that was another thing that blew my mind, was how
- 1:23:58the center of the plane hit. It was like a crater.
- 1:24:01There was like nothing there. Yeah.
- 1:24:03But then enough, enough blew into the trees that made it like
- 1:24:08that's actually like they found that credit card and it ended up
- 1:24:10like we do a lot of the. Terrorists, that's how they
- 1:24:13track the the panics through or the funding right for you.
- 1:24:18But if if anyone gets the opportunity, you got to go.
- 1:24:23Like I'm so happy that our group went and took the time to go
- 1:24:27over there and we didn't rush. We saw every part of it.
- 1:24:30We really took our time and it was just like.
- 1:24:34Yeah, a memorial that I've heard about obviously numerous times
- 1:24:38through. We have a ship in the Navy name
- 1:24:40the USS Somerset. And so we send 40 sailors every
- 1:24:46year off that ship to go in September for.
- 1:24:50They do memorial there and everything, obviously.
- 1:24:53And in my mind, I was like, this is a field like this.
- 1:25:01Why are we sending the no joke. Like you can call me an asshole
- 1:25:05if you want, but like in my mind, I'm like, we are spending
- 1:25:09boatloads of money because you got to think you have to house
- 1:25:12every sailor, every sailor's plane, every sailor's food, and
- 1:25:15then a vehicle per every X amount of sailors.
- 1:25:18It adds up real fast when you check the the tracker and you're
- 1:25:22like, why there are so many ships applying for outreach
- 1:25:26funding? Why are we sending 40 sailors to
- 1:25:31go to this memorial every single year?
- 1:25:33Like why don't we get some other ships, some opportunity and
- 1:25:35spread that funding out? And then like it doesn't even
- 1:25:38like it click, it doesn't click in your mind till you go there
- 1:25:41and you realize like there's a reason to spend 40.
- 1:25:44There were 40 heroes that day, the very first, very first
- 1:25:47report. So it's, it's a, it's a memorial
- 1:25:52in just the, the idea that we send 40 sailors as well.
- 1:25:56And it ends up being a little bit more because you've got some
- 1:25:59officers and whatnot going in attendance as well.
- 1:26:01It's like some civilian contractors and things.
- 1:26:04But there are 40 sailors attending.
- 1:26:07And when you go to the memorial, you don't understand until you
- 1:26:10realize why the number is 40 and why we continue to send that
- 1:26:15amount every single year regardless of the cost that it
- 1:26:18takes. And so like, sometimes if you
- 1:26:21think the military's dumping money on stupid things, just
- 1:26:23remember there's a reason why we're dumping money on something
- 1:26:26that you think is like frugal, Sir, non frugal spending.
- 1:26:31Yeah, sometimes. But it, it was eye opening to
- 1:26:35see. Like it was something that I
- 1:26:36had, I have funded sailors to go to for years.
- 1:26:39I'd helped organize their trip for it, but never actually like
- 1:26:45experienced it. I was just the person on the
- 1:26:47back end, you know, setting up their travel cost and
- 1:26:50everything. And then you get to actually go
- 1:26:54to this thing that you have, you know, organized for for years
- 1:26:59and see it and it is it is something else.
- 1:27:04It, it definitely makes you like, regardless of your job,
- 1:27:08whether a reservist or just doing public affairs, like
- 1:27:13whatever your job is, it definitely makes you like just
- 1:27:16weirdly feel this like bigger sense of pride in what you've,
- 1:27:20what you've done. And regardless like of your
- 1:27:26opinions on 9/11, like I I dabble in the conspiracy
- 1:27:31theories, but regardless, there are still 40 people, 4040
- 1:27:35Americans that lost their life on that plane doing what they
- 1:27:39thought was right. So.
- 1:27:42Well, and not to mention too, like there's a lot of first of
- 1:27:45all, it's a good thing that they stopped the plane from getting
- 1:27:47to the Capitol building, but also when you see the plain map
- 1:27:50of the seating, it was like almost empty.
- 1:27:53So that's a blessing too. Yeah, it was a plain quarter
- 1:27:55full and maybe 1/4. So thank, thank God it wasn't a
- 1:27:58pack flight. That'd be even worse.
- 1:28:00I mean, obviously it's still a super tragic, but given given
- 1:28:04all the stuff like it was, you know, it went pretty well.
- 1:28:07I mean, really well for the circumstances, you know.
- 1:28:11But yeah, that was my favorite part about the trip.
- 1:28:14And then I mean, the Pirates game was awesome too.
- 1:28:17Piss PNC. PNC Park is beautiful.
- 1:28:22Dude and skis is freaking stud. Dude, Can you imagine pitching 8
- 1:28:26innings, giving up one earned run and getting the loss?
- 1:28:28For a pile of garbage. Bro his ERAI think his I think
- 1:28:33his ERA now is like almost it's almost.
- 1:28:36Like 2. .18 It's almost some too 'cause he's had two starts since
- 1:28:40where he's given up like no runs.
- 1:28:42Dude, I mean. He's going to win the Cy Young
- 1:28:45unless not like he has some blow UPS.
- 1:28:46Yeah, but imagine if he was like on a Dodger, because he's
- 1:28:50probably going to end up going to the Dodgers for sure.
- 1:28:53I mean, I, I still wish that he would go to the Padres, but.
- 1:28:57He'll be traded to the Dodgers within two years, I guess.
- 1:29:00Like what a fucking bummer dude. Like the only thing worse could
- 1:29:05have been going to the Rockies. But the Rockies are what I mean.
- 1:29:09But still, like, even like not being with high, well, all the
- 1:29:15teams go through their their phases and what not.
- 1:29:17We're the freaking Padre fans. We're yeah, we've had our fair
- 1:29:21share of that for sure. Yeah.
- 1:29:23But even being with a team that's definitely not at the
- 1:29:27caliber you are and still giving your best.
- 1:29:29I mean, that dude was a freaking stud.
- 1:29:31Pitched 8 innings, gave up one run.
- 1:29:33That what was this solo hot? Yeah.
- 1:29:37Solo shot. So, yeah, I mean, overall, great
- 1:29:41trip. Glad.
- 1:29:43You know, Joey, you were able to come for your first tack and we
- 1:29:47were able to kind of do a little vacation with everybody.
- 1:29:49That was awesome. And yeah, I think that'll wrap
- 1:29:54up this pond. But it's been a pleasure, ma'am.
- 1:29:57Thank you very much for your contributions, Joey.
