- Lucas: Luna, welcome back. Ready to add some useful words to your Malay toolkit? Luna: Yes! I've been practicing 'pedas' and 'masin' from last time. My tongue is still tingling. Lucas: Love it. Today let's talk about money — well, prices. Two very handy adjectives: 'murah' and 'mahal'. Luna: Ooh, I think I've heard those at the market. 'Murah' means cheap, right? Lucas: Exactly right. 'Murah' — cheap. And 'mahal' — expensive. Let's hear them slowly. 'Murah'. Luna: 'Murah'. Lucas: Perfect. And 'mahal'. Luna: 'Mahal'. Lucas: Good. Now, let's put them in simple sentences. 'Ini murah' — This is cheap. Luna: 'Ini murah'. Lucas: And 'Itu mahal' — That is expensive. Luna: 'Itu mahal'. Got it. Lucas: Now imagine you're at a market stall. You see a nice shirt. You can say 'Ini murah' — This is cheap. Luna: What if I want to say 'I like the cheap one'? Lucas: Great question. 'Saya suka yang murah' — I like the cheap one. Luna: 'Saya suka yang murah'. Can I use that for anything? Lucas: Absolutely. 'Yang' means 'the one that is'. So 'yang murah' — the cheap one. 'Saya suka yang murah'. Luna: 'Saya suka yang murah'. That's super useful. Lucas: Let's do some back and forth. I'll say a phrase, you repeat. 'Ini murah'. Luna: 'Ini murah'. Lucas: 'Itu mahal'. Luna: 'Itu mahal'. Lucas: 'Saya suka yang murah'. Luna: 'Saya suka yang murah'. Lucas: You're nailing it. Now, let's create a mini scene. Let's say we're at a fruit stall. There are two papayas. One is cheap, one is expensive. Luna: Okay, I'll point to the cheap one. 'Ini murah'. Lucas: And the other one. 'Itu mahal'. Luna: 'Itu mahal'. So I'd buy the cheap one. Lucas: And say 'Saya suka yang murah'. Luna: 'Saya suka yang murah'. Perfect.
