- 3:38Speaker 3: Man.
- 3:38Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying. That's why I'm on here, man,
- 3:40Speaker 4: because I want everybody to understand. Man, we ain't just
- 3:43Speaker 4: out here to be killing and all this crazy stuff
- 3:46Speaker 4: and we aut here for some positive stuff for sure.
- 3:48Speaker 1: It's definitely. Man, listen now this show we love you.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Know what I'm saying. Keep the feats right. You got
- 3:53Speaker 1: some of the coldest shoes basketball history. In fact, I
- 3:56Speaker 1: don't want to skip around. What's that moment like with
- 3:59Speaker 1: GP Fine he getting his own signature shoe.
- 4:02Speaker 3: You know what, that's crazy? Man? That just mean you
- 4:05Speaker 3: know you're doing work. You know you're doing work.
- 4:08Speaker 4: When a company like Nike could come and say, look here, man,
- 4:11Speaker 4: we don't want you just to be in a shoe.
- 4:13Speaker 3: We want you to have your shoe.
- 4:16Speaker 4: And when they came at me in talk about the
- 4:18Speaker 4: glove man and all that other stuff, and then they
- 4:21Speaker 4: said they want.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Me to be a part of making the shoe.
- 4:25Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying. Usually they just give you
- 4:26Speaker 4: a shoe and say, yo, this is it. They wanted
- 4:29Speaker 4: me to be a part of the shoe and make
- 4:30Speaker 4: it meat. When I did the zipper on that thing,
- 4:33Speaker 4: that's a glove. That's what you zip up and on
- 4:36Speaker 4: your hand, and they fit like a glove, you know
- 4:38Speaker 4: what I'm saying. So when they did that and they
- 4:40Speaker 4: start giving me that opportunity. It was a big thing
- 4:44Speaker 4: for me. But you got to understand, we got to
- 4:46Speaker 4: represent them shoes too. You got to get out there
- 4:48Speaker 4: and play that game the way it is. And I
- 4:51Speaker 4: think they thought that they knew that I played that
- 4:53Speaker 4: game that way, so they gave me my own signature
- 4:55Speaker 4: to shoe. But what was the good thing about it
- 4:58Speaker 4: is that the shoes stuck in everybody. Yeah, and I
- 5:02Speaker 4: had to always think about it.
- 5:04Speaker 3: What's gonna make these people keep doing the shoe? Y'all?
- 5:07Speaker 3: Don't get it.
- 5:08Speaker 4: The women love to shoe more because they can throw
- 5:10Speaker 4: them down and go down with the monkey part when
- 5:13Speaker 4: I had all the different colors in it.
- 5:15Speaker 3: So the women was rocking a real.
- 5:17Speaker 4: Tough even with the men. But it was just great
- 5:20Speaker 4: to have a shoot. You just gotta be blessed to
- 5:23Speaker 4: have a shoe, you.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Know what I'm saying. Jordans can go with that.
- 5:27Speaker 4: You know, Pippy could come with it, Penny Hardaway could
- 5:30Speaker 4: come with it, you know, Ken Griffy.
- 5:34Speaker 3: But it ain't too many Bo Jackson.
- 5:35Speaker 4: It ain't too many people that got shoes and do
- 5:38Speaker 4: their thing, you know, Lebron and all.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Them dudes in a different era. But in my era
- 5:43Speaker 3: them there was the dudes.
- 5:43Speaker 4: That we had shoes and we was pretty we was
- 5:46Speaker 4: pretty cold at it.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Yeah, and to see us standard testing times at dope
- 5:49Speaker 1: part because I remember my brother coming home. I had
- 5:52Speaker 1: a brother's teams older than me. Came home with him
- 5:54Speaker 1: and you first on zipp the joints.
- 5:55Speaker 3: What I'm saying. You see the red joints on the side,
- 5:57Speaker 3: It's like I gotta had him. That was the kick
- 6:00Speaker 3: it off. Yeah, in Minnesota, played them in Minnesota. Did
- 6:04Speaker 3: you zip them down? I warmed up with them down
- 6:07Speaker 3: and yeah, I seen you Jeff going them on there.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Man. It was a pleasure to see some of the
- 6:14Speaker 4: younger guys that come after me to wear my shoe,
- 6:16Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying, And it'll be cool. When
- 6:19Speaker 4: I seen you wearing them, I was like, shit, young
- 6:21Speaker 4: guys is sucking with me, you know I'm And they
- 6:24Speaker 4: got down a lot of a lot of people get
- 6:26Speaker 4: there with my shoe, man, and it's cool, and I
- 6:28Speaker 4: appreciate that.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Man.
- 6:29Speaker 4: It's always I always look up to the old g's too.
- 6:33Speaker 4: And when you look up to the old gs and
- 6:35Speaker 4: so respect like that, it makes us feel good. You
- 6:38Speaker 4: know what I'm saying. And then we treated another different
- 6:41Speaker 4: way with with with the youngsters. And like I said,
- 6:44Speaker 4: if it wasn't for Jeff, I wouldn't be on here.
- 6:46Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
- 6:47Speaker 4: I don't really get out with too many podcasts. I
- 6:50Speaker 4: just get out with the people I love and it's
- 6:52Speaker 4: all good for that.
- 6:53Speaker 3: I appreciate that.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Just the counter off that you have any times you
- 6:56Speaker 1: see somebody your shoes like, hey, hey, take them shoes off, nigga,
- 6:58Speaker 1: Like you can't wear my shoes like that?
- 7:00Speaker 3: You put some work here? Well where they giving that?
- 7:02Speaker 3: The money? To me? I ain't You know what I'm saying,
- 7:06Speaker 3: You ain't do it, man. You know what I'm saying.
- 7:08Speaker 4: They're paying for them. What you think about it? You
- 7:11Speaker 4: be like, nig you really can't get out of me.
- 7:13Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying. But that's cool though, you know,
- 7:16Speaker 3: but it just shows hommage to to me. You know
- 7:20Speaker 3: what I'm saying. Even when I went.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Into the cannabis business and everybody smoking my mind strands.
- 7:27Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, I can't say you don't
- 7:30Speaker 3: smoke it.
- 7:31Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying. I can't say it don't smoking, man,
- 7:35Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. But it's good man. And
- 7:37Speaker 4: you look at some dudes like, dude, you know my shooting.
- 7:40Speaker 4: You ain't really getting it like that, you know what
- 7:42Speaker 4: I'm saying.
- 7:43Speaker 3: But it's cool though, man, because they paying hummage to me. Man,
- 7:46Speaker 3: for sure.
- 7:47Speaker 4: And don't nobody ever grew up talking about man they
- 7:50Speaker 4: have to shoot man and everybody man they thing.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Man.
- 7:52Speaker 4: I came out of open California, man in the hood,
- 7:55Speaker 4: and I didn't never think that I was gonna be
- 7:57Speaker 4: who I am, you know what I'm saying. So it's
- 8:00Speaker 4: just I just respect everything that people get and they
- 8:04Speaker 4: respect me, and it's good.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Man.
- 8:06Speaker 4: I just think that a lot of people look up
- 8:08Speaker 4: to me the way they look up to me, you
- 8:10Speaker 4: know what I'm saying, Because, like you said, people used
- 8:12Speaker 4: to come to me and be like, man at your shoe.
- 8:14Speaker 4: When I was I had my mama, my last money, man,
- 8:18Speaker 4: that was my Christmas good.
- 8:19Speaker 3: I'd be like, God, is that real? But it is good.
- 8:23Speaker 4: It's a good feeling for me that I touched people's
- 8:27Speaker 4: lives like that, you know what I'm saying, And that's
- 8:29Speaker 4: great for me to see here that.
- 8:31Speaker 1: And see that definitely, and especially in our community like
- 8:34Speaker 1: this sneaked thing, especially ill grow up hop and stuff
- 8:36Speaker 1: like that. No matter what you had going on, it's
- 8:37Speaker 1: a special moment. Even though you know it's just a shoe.
- 8:40Speaker 1: You just keep you know what I'm saying, where going
- 8:41Speaker 1: to keep your feet safe? It idolized the moment for you.
- 8:44Speaker 1: So I just would like to be an iconic moment
- 8:46Speaker 1: in people's lives. That's dope, hell man.
- 8:48Speaker 3: And you know what I'm gonna do for y'all.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Man, y'all don't give me y'all side is man, And
- 8:51Speaker 4: I'm I'm gonna send y'all some of the bloods. Man.
- 8:54Speaker 4: They're gonna be coming back out about another year. Man,
- 8:56Speaker 4: I'm gonna send y'all black joints.
- 8:57Speaker 3: You know what I'm gonna see, y'all. I'm gonna gift
- 9:06Speaker 3: y'all man and things. Man. You know, I got a
- 9:09Speaker 3: lot of them here.
- 9:10Speaker 4: Man with the Miami heat ones is here, Man in
- 9:12Speaker 4: my house here, So I got them, man.
- 9:15Speaker 3: So I'm gonna givet y'all that.
- 9:16Speaker 4: Man.
- 9:18Speaker 3: Man, it's all good, and we're gonna get off. You
- 9:23Speaker 3: know what I'm saying this to build that how.
- 9:24Speaker 1: It is like you know, you had the own shoot
- 9:26Speaker 1: and then you had the Jordan like peas, and now
- 9:29Speaker 1: to see them re released, you know what I'm saying,
- 9:30Speaker 1: Like you had that flavor back then.
- 9:32Speaker 3: What's that like? To see the like in every avenue
- 9:34Speaker 3: of the shoe. You're still just killing it. Let me
- 9:36Speaker 3: tell you so, y'all.
- 9:37Speaker 4: Y'all know I get at me and Jordan's was we clyd.
- 9:41Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, We get at it right.
- 9:43Speaker 4: So during that time, man, it was one of them things. Man,
- 9:46Speaker 4: I wanted to.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Change some stuff that I was doing. You know what
- 9:49Speaker 3: I'm saying.
- 9:49Speaker 4: I just got traded from the Seattle SuperSonics. A lot
- 9:53Speaker 4: of things was going in my mind. Man, I wanted
- 9:55Speaker 4: to change my life. So Nike came at me, man
- 9:58Speaker 4: and Jordan them came at me, and they came and
- 10:01Speaker 4: me and Jay Kidd. They wanted to do an open thing.
- 10:04Speaker 4: They wanted both of us to get in the thing.
- 10:06Speaker 4: I didn't really want to change shoes. I said, Man,
- 10:09Speaker 4: let me try it, man, let me see how much
- 10:11Speaker 4: funk I can get in. And it's Jordan because he
- 10:13Speaker 4: was getting big, really really big at this time in
- 10:16Speaker 4: his shoe game. And so when they came. I told him, Man,
- 10:20Speaker 4: the only ready I'm gonna wear them is that they
- 10:21Speaker 4: got to give me some funk.
- 10:23Speaker 3: And they gave me some funk. Man. When I went
- 10:25Speaker 3: when I went to the Lakers and the boat you
- 10:28Speaker 3: had here Amas holl.
- 10:36Speaker 4: And, they was giving me some wave colors. That was dope,
- 10:39Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. So I said, that's doing it,
- 10:42Speaker 4: and we did it, and I stayed for two years.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Then I went back when I went to.
- 10:45Speaker 4: Miami and went back to my thing and won the
- 10:48Speaker 4: championship in my things, you know what I'm saying.
- 10:50Speaker 3: So it was cool. Man. I want to ask you,
- 10:53Speaker 3: because we've been seeing you around. You know what I'm saying.
- 10:54Speaker 1: You always run basketball, which is super dope. What's that
- 10:57Speaker 1: feeling like to see your kid like? You know what
- 10:58Speaker 1: I'm saying, I have a great career in the NBA.
- 11:01Speaker 3: You know what.
- 11:02Speaker 4: I criticized my son so much. Man, I just told
- 11:05Speaker 4: him me it wasn't gonna be nothing, and he proved
- 11:07Speaker 4: me wrong, like what my.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Daddy did to me. Now, what's so good about this
- 11:12Speaker 3: is I could be a dad.
- 11:14Speaker 4: At the first time I was thinking about myself, I played,
- 11:18Speaker 4: and I want him to play that way.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Y'all gotta understand.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Man, it's only one Gary Payton, and that's me, and
- 11:24Speaker 4: I just named my son after.
- 11:26Speaker 3: That's it.
- 11:27Speaker 4: So I told my son, I said, look here, man,
- 11:30Speaker 4: I know you mad at me that we got into
- 11:33Speaker 4: a situation where our relationship wasn't really really cool because
- 11:36Speaker 4: of that. And I just told him, look, when he
- 11:39Speaker 4: made a decision to go to Oregon State behind me,
- 11:43Speaker 4: that was a big deal for me for him because
- 11:46Speaker 4: I really didn't think he was gonna do that, you know.
- 11:48Speaker 3: What I'm saying.
- 11:48Speaker 4: So I tell him all the time, I said, man,
- 11:51Speaker 4: look here, don't never think.
- 11:52Speaker 3: You got to be like me. It ain't gonna work
- 11:55Speaker 3: that way. I said.
- 11:56Speaker 4: If you want to be like be anything with me,
- 11:59Speaker 4: just get your picture up side of it and let
- 12:01Speaker 4: us be two legends together. Put your picture aside of
- 12:05Speaker 4: me when we when I got my my number retired
- 12:09Speaker 4: or to stay, which he's gonna get his retired or
- 12:11Speaker 4: to stay, just put your your picture up next mind,
- 12:15Speaker 4: and then we ain't gotta say nothing.
- 12:16Speaker 3: We can just say we two legends. You know what
- 12:18Speaker 3: I'm saying.
- 12:19Speaker 4: So don't never compare yourself to me, you know, because
- 12:22Speaker 4: you'll understand I don't really know if he's my kid anyway,
- 12:25Speaker 4: because he got too much affle.
- 12:30Speaker 3: I think that's male man. You know what, mother, If.
- 12:34Speaker 4: Be talking on motherfuckers, I'd be like, whoa man, I'm
- 12:38Speaker 4: gonna lay up king trying to do all that.
- 12:42Speaker 3: But you know, here athletic man.
- 12:45Speaker 4: But the best thing I like about my kid is
- 12:48Speaker 4: that when people come up to me, they don't talk
- 12:49Speaker 4: about basketball, talk about how much good of a person is.
- 12:53Speaker 3: You know, how sweet he is and how good he is. Man.
- 12:56Speaker 4: That makes a dash feel better because I know I
- 12:59Speaker 4: did what I did I had to do.
- 13:02Speaker 3: As a parent, you know what I'm saying.
- 13:04Speaker 4: I know I wasn't around all the time, you guys,
- 13:07Speaker 4: being at all the stuff he wanted me be at
- 13:09Speaker 4: because I was on his road doing the things I
- 13:11Speaker 4: was doing, and doing everything and other things, you know
- 13:14Speaker 4: what I'm saying. But as I went home, I became
- 13:18Speaker 4: a parent. So when I sit in the stands now,
- 13:21Speaker 4: I look at myself as being a parent. It's more
- 13:24Speaker 4: fulfilling for me to seem like that, you know what
- 13:27Speaker 4: I'm saying, instead of a basketball player. And that's the
- 13:30Speaker 4: greatest feeling to be.
- 13:31Speaker 3: A dad.
- 13:33Speaker 1: His competitor to the you know, defensive without effort. And
- 13:38Speaker 1: I don't know if you that trickled down from you
- 13:39Speaker 1: because you're a great defender. But he's one of those
- 13:42Speaker 1: lockdown defenders. Like every time he says in the game,
- 13:45Speaker 1: you know he's going on the best player, he gonna compete.
- 13:47Speaker 1: And it's been like that since Washington. Yeah, when I
- 13:49Speaker 1: seen him when he was on Washington, he played against something.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I'm like, man, don't play with the ball around him.
- 13:53Speaker 1: He's gonna still it. That's something that you like put
- 13:55Speaker 1: into his head, like a you're gonna make you gotta
- 13:57Speaker 1: play defense, Jeff.

- 15:17Speaker 1: The fans rebailed and wanted the old sent back and

- 15:23Speaker 1: fed up at our bringing the original cool Rush sent
- 15:25Speaker 1: back and it's exactly how you remember it, cool Chris
- 15:29Speaker 1: and fresh. There's the reason why it's the number one

- 15:37Speaker 1: Head to your local Walmart Target and try to og
- 15:40Speaker 1: cool Rush for yourself.
- 15:43Speaker 4: If you could go into a game and score thirty
- 15:46Speaker 4: and then the guys scored thirty six, that's a wash.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Yeah, it's six points different.
- 15:50Speaker 4: If you can go in the game and you score
- 15:52Speaker 4: thirty and hold him to twenty or sixteen, you've won
- 15:56Speaker 4: the game by fourteen or twelve ten, you know what
- 15:59Speaker 4: I'm saying. So you've done your job. So what he
- 16:02Speaker 4: did was with his long orange he became that thing.
- 16:06Speaker 4: But his mentality is that he don't have to score.
- 16:09Speaker 4: He can just lock you down. What I like about
- 16:12Speaker 4: him is every time he get in the game, he
- 16:13Speaker 4: always tell the person, let me guard the best person
- 16:16Speaker 4: on him. And that's what I like about it. He
- 16:19Speaker 4: guards always the best defender. I hate this game now
- 16:23Speaker 4: because them dudes try to shy away from guarding the
- 16:25Speaker 4: best defender when you know you're the best player. So
- 16:28Speaker 4: y'all both, y'all both ballot it out. But it is
- 16:31Speaker 4: what it is. But that's what I love about it.
- 16:32Speaker 4: You always want to guard.
- 16:33Speaker 3: The best offender. That's you say. Because be here just
- 16:36Speaker 3: brought it up. We talking about the playoffs.
- 16:37Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Like, we don't get the
- 16:39Speaker 1: main two players on the team, even if they play.
- 16:42Speaker 4: I missed that shit, bro, I missed that too in
- 16:44Speaker 4: my era, man, because you know me. If I'm playing
- 16:46Speaker 4: to Jordan Jordan, you feel what I'm saying. I'm guarding him.
- 16:50Speaker 4: If I'm if I got.
- 16:51Speaker 3: To go if when Magic was there, I'm guard Magic.
- 16:53Speaker 4: I don't care how big I was. I'm guarding that boy.
- 16:56Speaker 4: John Stockton, I'm guarding him. I'm going any tim hardaway.
- 16:59Speaker 4: I'm Kevin Kevin Johnson. I'm going to him. I'm not
- 17:02Speaker 4: shaving away. I'm not straying away from them, dudes. I'm
- 17:04Speaker 4: going out there.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Hey, you want them to get at them.
- 17:07Speaker 4: I want to get at them because I'm gonna tell you,
- 17:09Speaker 4: if I get you down here, you have a problem
- 17:12Speaker 4: down there, because I'm gonna go at you in the
- 17:13Speaker 4: offense again, I'm always don't get it to you because
- 17:19Speaker 4: if because I'm gonna get you on the block, and
- 17:20Speaker 4: I'm I'm gonna tell you him, I'm gonna back.
- 17:23Speaker 3: You in off saying forget that about you get it.
- 17:30Speaker 3: If I get you in the block, man, I'm gonna
- 17:31Speaker 3: kill you.
- 17:31Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Like, did you post up
- 17:34Speaker 1: in high school? I didn't because I don't know how
- 17:37Speaker 1: you got to play.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Let me tell you how that went down.
- 17:40Speaker 4: Right, two years in the NBA, I got drafted in
- 17:42Speaker 4: ninety right, eighty nine, ninety right.
- 17:45Speaker 3: I was horrible for two years in Seattle. They wanted
- 17:48Speaker 3: to trade me.
- 17:49Speaker 4: Then they changed coaches and went to George call and
- 17:52Speaker 4: they brought in Tim tim Girt, who came from here
- 17:55Speaker 4: from Tark.
- 17:57Speaker 3: They told us that we don't work out.
- 17:59Speaker 4: With him in the summer and in summer league, and
- 18:02Speaker 4: we got to go back to some league and trade us.
- 18:04Speaker 4: So when he went the first thing he did he
- 18:06Speaker 4: brought me in a suite just like this, and he
- 18:09Speaker 4: had two TVs. Yeah, one TV that had me playing
- 18:14Speaker 4: as a signing my two years and one TV as
- 18:17Speaker 4: Oregon State. He kicked the TV down with a signing.
- 18:20Speaker 4: He said, I don't get shit. I don't want you
- 18:22Speaker 4: to playing like that. Did you play like him? And
- 18:25Speaker 4: next thing you know, I said, I'm there. I said,
- 18:28Speaker 4: what do I have to do? He said, you just
- 18:29Speaker 4: got to be a gym every day.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Every day. I tell you.
- 18:32Speaker 4: When I went in the gym, he said, I noticed
- 18:34Speaker 4: something about you. You're very big, you're very you're very athletic,
- 18:38Speaker 4: and you got both hands. Because I'm a lefty, but
- 18:42Speaker 4: I'm ambidescri he said, I can go both ways.
- 18:44Speaker 3: He said, I want you to post up players.
- 18:47Speaker 4: So he started putting me on the block, banging me,
- 18:48Speaker 4: banging me, and I started working at my game. I
- 18:51Speaker 4: started working at the spin and y'all know my spin
- 18:53Speaker 4: was was the colder is one of the colder spins anything.
- 18:56Speaker 3: I started spinning off people and filling people, and he
- 18:59Speaker 3: was like, be a beast.
- 19:01Speaker 4: And then that's what it happened. I start posting up people.
- 19:04Speaker 4: I start fading the way I started doing jumping, start
- 19:06Speaker 4: going in the middle. I started kicking it out and
- 19:09Speaker 4: then he said, ain't nobody gonna be able to stop you?
- 19:12Speaker 3: And then not to start doing it all the time. Man,
- 19:14Speaker 3: The dope. Part that you said is that happened after
- 19:16Speaker 3: year two.
- 19:17Speaker 1: We expect so many high draft picks to come in
- 19:20Speaker 1: the league now from day one to be polished and produced.
- 19:23Speaker 3: It takes time to get good. Yeah, take time. Everybody's
- 19:26Speaker 3: not gonna be good.
- 19:27Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, You come out because you
- 19:29Speaker 4: got to understand everybody up here is good too.
- 19:32Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
- 19:33Speaker 4: You're playing against college players with college players. How many
- 19:36Speaker 4: college good college players you're gonna play against. You're gona
- 19:38Speaker 4: play against one or two every now and then, and
- 19:39Speaker 4: then you're gonna play against them in the NCAA tournament.
- 19:42Speaker 3: That's it.
- 19:43Speaker 4: So when you get to here, we need the same
- 19:45Speaker 4: skilled as you, and we're probably even better than you.
- 19:48Speaker 4: So now you're gonna work against us all the time.
- 19:50Speaker 3: So how you gonna do it? How you gonna be
- 19:52Speaker 3: that way? And that's what it was. And then you know,
- 19:54Speaker 3: in my era, I was going against a lot of people,
- 19:57Speaker 3: a lot of dogs.
- 19:58Speaker 4: Man, they had people at it everything that the worst
- 20:01Speaker 4: dog I ever played with, and he was strong, was
- 20:03Speaker 4: Miss Richmond.
- 20:04Speaker 3: He changed because he he.
- 20:08Speaker 4: Got me away from being on the Sacramento started putting
- 20:12Speaker 4: him on me instead of point guards.
- 20:14Speaker 3: And he was bigger and he used to.
- 20:16Speaker 4: Pound me a lot, so he made me a little
- 20:18Speaker 4: bit different and then he can come down and score.
- 20:21Speaker 3: See what I'm saying.
- 20:21Speaker 4: So I was always taking the challenge to go play him,
- 20:24Speaker 4: but he was wearing me down. So it was like,
- 20:27Speaker 4: that's what I wanted to do, man, And I just
- 20:29Speaker 4: wanted that challenge every day.
- 20:30Speaker 3: I wanted a challenge.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Who was your best point guard? Mess up John Stockton
- 20:35Speaker 4: by far. He was just a little bit more crafty.
- 20:39Speaker 4: Everybody thought he was dirty, but he was just stupid.
- 20:42Speaker 4: We just didn't know how to plane. It took me
- 20:45Speaker 4: six years of figuring him out. And then when I
- 20:46Speaker 4: figured him out, when we beat him in the Western
- 20:49Speaker 4: Conference finals, I figured him out.
- 20:51Speaker 3: I figured out I can't.
- 20:53Speaker 4: Keep doing the same thing I do with him and
- 20:55Speaker 4: try to overmatch him. I got to play the same
- 20:57Speaker 4: way he played, and I gotta just every time I
- 21:00Speaker 4: pound him, he'll fall and take a charge.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Then I started saying, no, I know he gonna hit.
- 21:05Speaker 4: He gonna think I'm a hit him twice, but I'm
- 21:07Speaker 4: gonna hit him one time and I'm ana step off
- 21:08Speaker 4: and then to shoot a jumper in his face and
- 21:10Speaker 4: do everything and then face him up and go around him.
- 21:13Speaker 3: He couldn't deal with me that day.
- 21:15Speaker 4: And then when I figured him out, it was a
- 21:16Speaker 4: little bit different. And then, you know, like everybody know today,
- 21:20Speaker 4: I idolized him a lot, you know what I'm saying.
- 21:22Speaker 4: He's like one of my best friends, and you know,
- 21:25Speaker 4: and it was just I really love playing against players
- 21:30Speaker 4: like that, you know what I'm saying, because it got
- 21:32Speaker 4: me more of an IQ of the game. And I
- 21:36Speaker 4: John Stock and Tim Hardaway, Kevin Johnson, Rod Strickland, Mookie Blaylock,
- 21:43Speaker 4: people like that.
- 21:44Speaker 3: I wanted to play against men, you know what.
- 21:46Speaker 4: I'm saying, because they gave me more game and maybe
- 21:49Speaker 4: more of a basketball player for sure.
- 21:51Speaker 3: For sure. We got to talk about Oakland.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Yeah, like we said, you know what I'm saying, it's
- 21:59Speaker 1: a lot down to point guards come out of Oakland.
- 22:01Speaker 3: Uh.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Obviously y'all had a conversation recently on another podcast and
- 22:06Speaker 1: y'all was talking about top guards in Oakland and we
- 22:08Speaker 1: brung up Dame Lillard, Jason Kidd and you and I
- 22:13Speaker 1: went with Dane. That's my that's my class. That's the
- 22:17Speaker 1: guys I grew up playing against. I think Simba said
- 22:22Speaker 1: symbol symbol might have he said kid, he said he.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Everybody else says you right, and I've seen what you said.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Your response, I love for you to elaborate a little
- 22:35Speaker 1: more response. I see the ship, but you where you
- 22:42Speaker 1: really start because obviously, y'all, dame my guy.
- 22:44Speaker 3: You know Dan, that's our guy.
- 22:46Speaker 1: But when you started breaking down, like hold on, I
- 22:49Speaker 1: averaged twenty points.
- 22:50Speaker 3: The simple was over there said like yeah, because people forget.
- 22:54Speaker 4: Any hog what you're said. People forgot how score. People
- 22:57Speaker 4: think about my defense. Yea, y'all gotta understand, man, I
- 23:00Speaker 4: was scoring like for eight straight years. I was scoring
- 23:02Speaker 4: over twenty points a game. I feel what I'm saying,
- 23:05Speaker 4: and then I was getting down, locking down people and
- 23:07Speaker 4: then averaging eight assist in three steals.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Got to understand that that's that's where the game goes.
- 23:13Speaker 4: And people don't understand I scored over like twenty one
- 23:16Speaker 4: thousand points.
- 23:17Speaker 3: People forget that. They overlooked that.
- 23:22Speaker 4: But what I say is about my two youngsters, right, Jay,
- 23:25Speaker 4: I raised him.
- 23:27Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying. Y'all gotta understand.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Jay didn't start scoring until the end of the years
- 23:31Speaker 4: of his career, right, so if we break it down,
- 23:35Speaker 4: Jay is a better passard than me. You feel what
- 23:37Speaker 4: I'm saying. Defender he's not. You know what I'm saying,
- 23:40Speaker 4: Score he's not. But he's a great IQ guy. You
- 23:44Speaker 4: know what I'm saying. Dame is my youngster. You know
- 23:47Speaker 4: what I'm saying. We can't put Dame in that situation
- 23:50Speaker 4: right now because he's not fulfilled all the things that
- 23:53Speaker 4: he's done.
- 23:53Speaker 3: But he's made his mark on the NBA as that
- 23:56Speaker 3: shooting and.
- 23:56Speaker 4: Scoring, and Dame is a little bit different to point
- 23:59Speaker 4: guard in us, you know what I'm saying, because this
- 24:02Speaker 4: era came a little different. It's about scoring here now,
- 24:05Speaker 4: it's not about passing.
- 24:07Speaker 3: The ball getting the other people into the game.
- 24:10Speaker 4: Jason was a better rebounder than both of us, you
- 24:13Speaker 4: know what I'm saying. So it's a little bit different
- 24:15Speaker 4: than what we do. Damed and steal the ball like
- 24:18Speaker 4: we stole the ball. So it's a little different than
- 24:22Speaker 4: what we're talking about eras it's an era thing. I
- 24:26Speaker 4: get everybody has their opinion about a lot of stuff,
- 24:30Speaker 4: but I just say where they're from.
- 24:32Speaker 3: From Oakland, you know what I'm saying. And she agreed.
- 24:35Speaker 3: We breathe that, and that's just the way we're different.
- 24:38Speaker 3: I'm the o G.
- 24:39Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying. So we did a little different.
- 24:42Speaker 4: You guys didn't watch me as much, but just know
- 24:46Speaker 4: who I am.
- 24:47Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying. Y'all watch me as much.
- 24:56Speaker 3: It'll be like that. But it was light you're talking
- 24:58Speaker 3: about overall is like you said, because I played. I
- 25:04Speaker 3: played against him? Why and I understand that.
- 25:07Speaker 4: I always tell people it's about an era what y'all did.
- 25:11Speaker 4: That's why I don't like people to ask me about
- 25:13Speaker 4: a goat, because a goat ain't gonna work for me
- 25:15Speaker 4: because y'all didn't play at the same time as each other.
- 25:19Speaker 4: So I can't tell you about a goat. You know
- 25:20Speaker 4: what I'm saying. All of us was good.
- 25:22Speaker 3: You feel what I'm saying, So you just think about stats.
- 25:26Speaker 3: That's why people go with a goat. They think about stats.
- 25:28Speaker 3: They say, oh, you want this, you want that? Man?
- 25:31Speaker 3: But did he play against him? Did he get down
- 25:33Speaker 3: at him like that? Now they didn't.
- 25:35Speaker 4: Then too many play against Larry Bird, one of the
- 25:38Speaker 4: coldest little motherfuckers I ever seen him on what what
- 25:41Speaker 4: what you're talking about?
- 25:42Speaker 3: You know I'm just saying, man, you know, we didn't.
- 25:46Speaker 4: Play against Wilt Chamblin and Kareem or dul Jabor who
- 25:49Speaker 4: couldn't stop a skyhooking, and and and and Will Chamblin.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Everybody bringing Will Chamber's records.
- 25:56Speaker 4: Feel me, they bringing all these records and they talk
- 25:59Speaker 4: about Eves and the seas or whatever. Well, he was
- 26:02Speaker 4: twenty two, twenty one, Silver was the same. You know
- 26:05Speaker 4: what I'm saying. So we don't do goats here, man,
- 26:08Speaker 4: I don't you know what I'm saying.
- 26:09Speaker 3: I don't do goats.
- 26:10Speaker 4: So, but the what the point guard thing in Oakland,
- 26:13Speaker 4: them three was pretty good. We were us three was
- 26:15Speaker 4: pretty damn.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Basketball.
- 26:18Speaker 4: And we and two of us is in the Hall
- 26:20Speaker 4: of Fame and top seventy five. Dame is already on
- 26:23Speaker 4: top seven five. He's gonna be in the Hall of Fame.
- 26:25Speaker 4: We're doing the thing. You know, Dame might be might
- 26:28Speaker 4: score more points in both of us, But it is
- 26:30Speaker 4: what it is, you know what I'm saying. And I
- 26:33Speaker 4: think when they go to New York and say that
- 26:34Speaker 4: stuff about the point gods, you know, we got the
- 26:38Speaker 4: point guards over.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Here in this West Another it's a trio like that
- 26:47Speaker 1: L a l A got some point guards the top
- 26:49Speaker 1: seventy five.
- 26:52Speaker 3: But I'm saying.
- 26:56Speaker 4: If the two made the top seventy five, b D
- 26:59Speaker 4: is is about is my youngster? If he would have
- 27:02Speaker 4: got hurt, it would have been you know what I'm saying.
- 27:05Speaker 3: But if we all three, if we played them three and.
- 27:07Speaker 4: Have been about yes, saying understand though Paul Pierce is
- 27:13Speaker 4: from Oakland, California too. He was born in Open California,
- 27:17Speaker 4: So we got another time. Yeah, Paul, Yeah, what's that?
- 27:22Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying. Paul Piers and grew up
- 27:24Speaker 4: around around the corner from me. I grew up with
- 27:26Speaker 4: his brother and now he moves from Oakland. When he
- 27:29Speaker 4: was eleven, I.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Can't talk Paul my yeah, I tell it ain't known
- 27:38Speaker 3: like Hill like. He ain't no l a boy. He
- 27:39Speaker 3: grew up eleven. So let me let me break it down.
- 27:47Speaker 4: That's the whare the game go?
- 27:49Speaker 3: You feel? So?
- 27:50Speaker 4: Yeah, so we got a lot of top seventy five yeahs,
- 27:55Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying.
- 27:56Speaker 3: So you was a.

- 28:18Speaker 2: Who like showed you the way coming up in Oakland,
- 28:21Speaker 2: Like who put the ball in your hands?
- 28:23Speaker 3: My daddy? Really, you guys.
- 28:26Speaker 4: Get my daddy coached everybody were talking about everybody.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Every one of these guys y'all.
- 28:32Speaker 4: Y'all were talking about my daddy coaches and touched hands
- 28:35Speaker 4: on So they brought me into that. I really, I
- 28:38Speaker 4: really idolized George Gervin, who is my stepdad now like
- 28:42Speaker 4: my step pops to now.
- 28:43Speaker 3: But that's coming up in the hood and Oakland.
- 28:46Speaker 4: My daddy was the one who put hands on me
- 28:48Speaker 4: and touched me, you know, and he touched a lot
- 28:50Speaker 4: of them. He coached Jay you know, Dame came a
- 28:54Speaker 4: little too later because he was in a later but
- 28:57Speaker 4: he played against my daddy and my daddy's scenes and
- 28:59Speaker 4: stuff like that.
- 29:00Speaker 3: But that was it.
- 29:01Speaker 4: You know.
- 29:02Speaker 3: You gotta understand.
- 29:03Speaker 4: We had b Shaw, Yeah, Antonio Davis there, Greg.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Falls, we had all them.
- 29:09Speaker 4: Cliff Robinson a player y'all forgot. Bill Russell was from Oakland.
- 29:15Speaker 4: Paul Solis is from Oakland. You done have a lot
- 29:18Speaker 4: of basketball player. Yeah, you know what I'm saying.
- 29:22Speaker 1: You know that, don't part about that. This that's Pops. Yeah,
- 29:27Speaker 1: in the city, bro, everybody heard.
- 29:29Speaker 4: Heard about his dad a lot man. He reminds me
- 29:32Speaker 4: of my dad a lot. Your dad reminds me.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Of my dad a lot man.
- 29:43Speaker 4: And my dad did the same thing. So, but you know,
- 29:45Speaker 4: it wasn't just about basketball, my pops.
- 29:47Speaker 3: My pops.
- 29:48Speaker 4: You score around the school and the DC dudes shooting
- 29:51Speaker 4: dice over there, and you say, oh, go there go
- 29:53Speaker 4: my daddy's They go, Miss Page's white white, uh, escalator whatever.
- 29:58Speaker 3: Whatever. Let's jump over fence and get up. Body help
- 30:00Speaker 3: because he's gonna get at us. You know what I'm saying.
- 30:02Speaker 3: My daddy put life in a lot of people. Man.
- 30:05Speaker 4: He told them how to cook, told him how to
- 30:07Speaker 4: do every other things. And that's what I thought about
- 30:10Speaker 4: why I went into coaching now. While I coach young
- 30:13Speaker 4: guys now, because I want to make them men. Everybody
- 30:16Speaker 4: ain't gonna make it in basketball or profession. They got
- 30:19Speaker 4: to understand that their lives is be more and more
- 30:21Speaker 4: than sports. Their life is everything because they're gonna be.
- 30:24Speaker 3: A parent at one time too.
- 30:26Speaker 4: And you got to raise somebody, and that's what I
- 30:29Speaker 4: always tell them, and that's what that's why I got
- 30:31Speaker 4: into coaching because I want to tell them that and
- 30:35Speaker 4: understand that you can't always be who you want to be,
- 30:38Speaker 4: but you can be who you want to be a
- 30:40Speaker 4: different work in a different aspect.
- 30:42Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
- 30:43Speaker 4: You could be a lawyer, doctor or whatever and make
- 30:46Speaker 4: an impact on anybody's life.
- 30:48Speaker 3: And we got to understand that. Yeah, and that's what
- 30:50Speaker 3: you will take you as well. Big them up. He
- 30:52Speaker 3: coaches the Alma mater, you know what I'm saying.
- 30:54Speaker 1: So the impact you have on them kids, not even
- 30:56Speaker 1: from a basketball standpoint, just to show like you can
- 30:58Speaker 1: be something in life where you can move like you
- 31:00Speaker 1: can have these morals and be successful other avenues is
- 31:03Speaker 1: very important because we don't got that much representation our community.
- 31:06Speaker 4: Absolutely, and that's what we got to always be big on.
- 31:10Speaker 4: When my daddy gave it to me, but then God
- 31:12Speaker 4: told him to pass it on to me and keep
- 31:14Speaker 4: it going, you know what I'm saying, Because we got
- 31:16Speaker 4: to catch these young kids because his mental health stuff
- 31:19Speaker 4: is really killing us right now. They don't know how
- 31:22Speaker 4: to respond to people and say yo, I know you
- 31:25Speaker 4: helping me.
- 31:26Speaker 3: Let me, let you help me. Let me tell you
- 31:28Speaker 3: about my.
- 31:28Speaker 4: Situation, because I can get a lot of these kids
- 31:31Speaker 4: out of their situations and get them into some help
- 31:33Speaker 4: programs and do the things that they have to do.
- 31:35Speaker 3: But you have to give them some support because none
- 31:38Speaker 3: of them really grew up like that.
- 31:39Speaker 4: They only grew up with a mama. Me and Jeff
- 31:42Speaker 4: grew up with a daddy. See, our daddy was a
- 31:45Speaker 4: big partner life. Most of the people didn't grow up
- 31:48Speaker 4: with the pops like that, So we got to understand that.
- 31:50Speaker 4: And most of my guys who I deal with didn't
- 31:52Speaker 4: grow up with daddy's like that. They grew up mamas
- 31:55Speaker 4: where they can go on the streets and do whatever
- 31:56Speaker 4: they wanted to do any time in their life. And
- 31:59Speaker 4: my daddy was there to take take responsibilities for him.
- 32:02Speaker 4: So we have to understand that. So we got to
- 32:04Speaker 4: give them that support. Got to get into it that.
- 32:08Speaker 2: I definitely want to ask you to uh Sean Kent
- 32:11Speaker 2: from our state. He's Indiana, you know.
- 32:13Speaker 4: What I mean, our court Indiana, Indiana?
- 32:17Speaker 2: Yeah for sure, right man, You know, I know all
- 32:22Speaker 2: of us want to ask you, man, how was that
- 32:24Speaker 2: playing with him?
- 32:25Speaker 3: Man? Like that was crazy, crazy, what a turn this out?
- 32:35Speaker 3: Real ship.
- 32:37Speaker 4: Listen, man, let me let me tell you all about that.
- 32:39Speaker 4: Everybody talk about this Live City. No no disrespect to
- 32:43Speaker 4: uh CP and them and all, like we were the
- 32:46Speaker 4: first ones with Love City. Me and Sean was the
- 32:49Speaker 4: first one to get it like that. You know what,
- 32:51Speaker 4: I'm playing with him for seven years was amazing. Me
- 32:55Speaker 4: and him are partners now in the cannabis business and
- 32:58Speaker 4: all that stuff I see shot on a regular basis.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Man, and playing with.
- 33:03Speaker 4: Him and becoming a friend with him is more important
- 33:06Speaker 4: than that. That's how a chemistry comes together, and that's
- 33:10Speaker 4: how we did it. And people just don't understand I think,
- 33:14Speaker 4: And I always tell Sunnis, I said, if we wouldn't
- 33:17Speaker 4: have got our ego messed up and his ego messed up,
- 33:20Speaker 4: if he would have stayed with me more years, he'll be.
- 33:23Speaker 3: A Hall of Fame by now.
- 33:24Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, Because we'd have made a
- 33:26Speaker 4: bigger dynasty than what we did. We were one of
- 33:29Speaker 4: the two warner one or one of the greatest duos
- 33:32Speaker 4: ever played with each other. And what I think, and
- 33:35Speaker 4: I'm trying to get him in the Hall of Fame
- 33:36Speaker 4: now for what he's done with me, you know what
- 33:40Speaker 4: I'm saying. So I just think I had a blessing
- 33:43Speaker 4: to play with a person with that much talent because
- 33:47Speaker 4: I can just throw the ball up to him and
- 33:49Speaker 4: he would go get it anywhere. But people don't understand
- 33:52Speaker 4: how good he was with the basketball and shooting in
- 33:55Speaker 4: the mids, in the mid in the mid range game
- 33:57Speaker 4: and his back to the basket. He was a beast,
- 34:00Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. And so people didn't really
- 34:02Speaker 4: understand that about how much freak ability he had. Man,
- 34:07Speaker 4: you feel what I'm saying. He had a freak ability
- 34:09Speaker 4: that nobody really really knew that he had. But if
- 34:13Speaker 4: you see it every time y'all watch the highlights of
- 34:15Speaker 4: all our games, he did some stuff that was so
- 34:19Speaker 4: incredible to me.
- 34:19Speaker 3: Man. I used to be like, Wow, you know I'm
- 34:22Speaker 3: playing with this this dude. We used to see the
- 34:24Speaker 3: lobs you do it? Yeah, yeah, I usually you used
- 34:27Speaker 3: to always tell me.
- 34:28Speaker 4: He's always telling me, Man, give me a challenge today, Man,
- 34:32Speaker 4: throw it somewhere where I own.
- 34:33Speaker 3: You don't think I'm gonna go get it. And I
- 34:35Speaker 3: was just throw it up there and he'll go get it.
- 34:37Speaker 3: Was that instant chemistry though it was. It was what
- 34:42Speaker 3: happened was in eighty nine.
- 34:44Speaker 4: I was in college and he was just coming out
- 34:46Speaker 4: right and Sonny's drafted him and they wanted the point guard.
- 34:49Speaker 4: And then Bernie Bickerstaff see me, and he said, I
- 34:53Speaker 4: think this is a kid that we're gonna get. So
- 34:56Speaker 4: he started telling Sean to watch me, and Sean started
- 34:59Speaker 4: watching me. And I was in college. They hit me
- 35:02Speaker 4: in every now and then, and then they they didn't
- 35:04Speaker 4: have a chance to get me at all, you know
- 35:07Speaker 4: what I'm saying. And then all of a sudden they
- 35:10Speaker 4: food around and didn't make the playoffs and then got
- 35:12Speaker 4: lottery and their balls was a chance of what Dallas
- 35:16Speaker 4: was this year they get the cool flags. Their chances
- 35:20Speaker 4: were twelve percent to get the number two pick or
- 35:22Speaker 4: the number one pick, and they food around and got
- 35:25Speaker 4: the number two pick. Wow, And I knew I wasn't
- 35:30Speaker 4: gonna go no lord and one or two. And New
- 35:33Speaker 4: Jersey wanted me, but they wanted a point guard and
- 35:36Speaker 4: a big man. And Derrick Coleman was coming out. And
- 35:39Speaker 4: then Kenny andershonw was gonna come out next year. So
- 35:41Speaker 4: I went and told him, don't drafted you can get
- 35:43Speaker 4: Kenny the next year. So I wanted to go to Seattle.
- 35:47Speaker 4: So they drafted Derrick Coleman and then I went, I
- 35:51Speaker 4: went number two to Seattle.
- 35:52Speaker 3: Yeah, so he was a part of the bullshit. Ear real, bro.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Hein't no way Dallas get that big it happens, man,
- 36:07Speaker 1: Hey man, they crucified my boy and go man man
- 36:11Speaker 1: because he he traded Lucas Man. But then all of
- 36:15Speaker 1: a sudden, the batn't even worse when all the mothers
- 36:18Speaker 1: got all them injuries, and then all of a sudden,
- 36:21Speaker 1: big bang bang. I went into one of them all
- 36:27Speaker 1: crazy Litton.
- 36:28Speaker 3: Man, pay ten dollars and got a lottery. What I do?
- 36:33Speaker 1: I get.
- 36:35Speaker 4: Hit for that billion.
- 36:38Speaker 3: And got the boy boy boy man.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Listen, that's one of my favorite NBA moments, man, that
- 36:45Speaker 1: they showing that draft from.
- 36:47Speaker 3: Yes, I'm like they cheating. Ain't no way it's supposed
- 36:49Speaker 3: to happen. No way it's supposed to happen. Bing along,
- 36:53Speaker 3: I knew.
- 36:53Speaker 4: He was going to a whack team, a team that
- 36:56Speaker 4: was going to be losing, and all of a sudden,
- 36:58Speaker 4: I said, man.
- 36:59Speaker 3: You get the at the lottery and hit the lot
- 37:02Speaker 3: and then those teams are at the bottom of the lottery.
- 37:05Speaker 3: He their chances were z it's.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Not fair that zero Dallas to get that pick, and
- 37:14Speaker 1: they went to the finals last year.
- 37:18Speaker 3: That was in the finals, they lost to Boston.
- 37:21Speaker 4: You feel what I'm saying, But you know what I
- 37:26Speaker 4: feel for my boy Jay Kidd as a head coach,
- 37:28Speaker 4: I love it. And then I feel for Nico Man.
- 37:31Speaker 4: Nico was my rep at Nike. That's like a little
- 37:35Speaker 4: brother than me. Man. He always looked up to me
- 37:37Speaker 4: like that. So I feel for him because what he took.
- 37:40Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying. People don't understand.
- 37:42Speaker 4: He's the president general manager. He can't make them calls
- 37:45Speaker 4: on his own. Owner has to make that call. He
- 37:49Speaker 4: can't just say I'll make the call because he's gonna
- 37:51Speaker 4: get He's going to get fired. So all you fans
- 37:55Speaker 4: out there messing out him like that, get up out
- 37:57Speaker 4: of here with that.
- 37:58Speaker 3: He wasn't his call. Man make that decision.
- 38:01Speaker 4: He made a decision on what he was told to
- 38:03Speaker 4: do or what it was it was supposed to be done,
- 38:06Speaker 4: and that's what they did.
- 38:07Speaker 3: So I'm happy for him. What's gonna happen?
- 38:10Speaker 4: You get Kyrie back after this injury man, which he'll
- 38:13Speaker 4: probably come back in January or something like that and
- 38:16Speaker 4: they'll be rolling. They'll make it up there, make a
- 38:18Speaker 4: thing ad come back. What it is, get all the
- 38:21Speaker 4: guys get.
- 38:22Speaker 3: Healthy, because if their whole team get healthy, it's gonna
- 38:25Speaker 3: be a beast. That it's gonna be a beast.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Speaking of the finals, and we all watched the last dance,
- 38:31Speaker 1: I want to ask you on this show, how did
- 38:34Speaker 1: they feel knowing you going to the finals against Michael Jordan.
- 38:37Speaker 3: In ninety six?
- 38:38Speaker 4: That was great man. You remember I got on I
- 38:41Speaker 4: got on cover Sports, illustrating and saying mission impossible. I
- 38:46Speaker 4: just won the Defensive Player of the Year, first point
- 38:48Speaker 4: guard they ever do it, And it was just something,
- 38:51Speaker 4: but people didn't know. I got hurt. I tore my
- 38:53Speaker 4: cat muscle and I and I really would and couldn't move.
- 38:57Speaker 4: What I did was I went in there and they
- 38:59Speaker 4: found to a solution. They found a little miracle miracle
- 39:03Speaker 4: thing to do. They got my leg better. I wrapped
- 39:06Speaker 4: it up a little bit and then all of a sudden,
- 39:08Speaker 4: you know, it's a miracle, you know. So then I
- 39:12Speaker 4: started playing and I started feeling better and better and better.
- 39:15Speaker 4: Then we got down too much and then I just
- 39:16Speaker 4: start saying, let me guard it. And he was averaging
- 39:19Speaker 4: thirty three at the time, and then I started making
- 39:21Speaker 4: it a pest for him. I started making it a
- 39:23Speaker 4: pest for him, and then I broke it down to
- 39:25Speaker 4: twenty three. And then what coaches do? They knew I
- 39:30Speaker 4: started becoming a problem, so they had to make to
- 39:33Speaker 4: solve the problem.
- 39:34Speaker 3: What do you do? You solve the problem?
- 39:36Speaker 4: So Jordan was taking it personal with me, which I
- 39:40Speaker 4: wanted to happen. And then you know, Phil Jackson said, nah,
- 39:44Speaker 4: let me put somebody.
- 39:45Speaker 3: Bigger on him and distract him and make it a
- 39:48Speaker 3: problem for him.
- 39:49Speaker 4: And he put Pipping on me. And Pipping is a
- 39:51Speaker 4: bigger player than me. He was six seven, he could
- 39:53Speaker 4: be He's mobile. He was there, and it was taking
- 39:56Speaker 4: a toll on me. Took a real toll on me
- 39:59Speaker 4: to try to score and guard Jordan at the same time.
- 40:02Speaker 3: And it took a toll on them.
- 40:03Speaker 4: And then by the time the sixth game came, we
- 40:06Speaker 4: had broke it down the three to two.
- 40:08Speaker 3: That six game came on, I got a little fatigue,
- 40:11Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, And they took us out.
- 40:14Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying. It is what it is.
- 40:15Speaker 3: It just took us out the game.
- 40:17Speaker 1: But it was just good Buffy, who fast to see that,
- 40:19Speaker 1: Like that's a hell of a matchup, like to hold
- 40:21Speaker 1: y'all against one of the players that we called it
- 40:23Speaker 1: go like you said, that situation, that just got.
- 40:25Speaker 3: To be dope for you in that moment. It's like,
- 40:26Speaker 3: I'm here. You know what.
- 40:29Speaker 4: It was easy for me because of my mindset. I
- 40:32Speaker 4: thought it was always I wanted to play against all
- 40:34Speaker 4: the time. You remember they were seventy two and ten.
- 40:38Speaker 4: We were sixty four and eighteen. Y'all forgot that we
- 40:41Speaker 4: were the number two team in the league at the time,
- 40:44Speaker 4: and we beat them. We beat them out of that
- 40:46Speaker 4: one tent out of that ten. So it was like
- 40:49Speaker 4: I just wanted the competition. I just wanted to play
- 40:53Speaker 4: the bast You know what I'm saying. I don't straight
- 40:55Speaker 4: away from nobody, man, when I play. My daddy always
- 40:58Speaker 4: told me, man, let ain't broken and off, get on
- 41:01Speaker 4: the floor and get it. And that's what I did.
- 41:03Speaker 4: I just went and got it. And he was always
- 41:06Speaker 4: the one to take the competitive to me.
- 41:09Speaker 3: I love it.
- 41:10Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, how did you respond when you see him laugh?
- 41:13Speaker 1: Like I know you are. You probably was laughing too, I.
- 41:16Speaker 3: Laugh right, I said it is. I wouldn't even Jeff.
- 41:20Speaker 3: I wouldn't even respected him if he didn't say that.
- 41:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I wouldn't even respected him to say anything like that,
- 41:26Speaker 4: unless because it's his it's his documentary.
- 41:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't care. Man. We all knew what the
- 41:33Speaker 3: game was and Rusher was whoever. Whatever, it's good, we
- 41:37Speaker 3: knew what it was. Nah. Listen, man, o g We
- 41:41Speaker 3: are honored. Man.
- 41:42Speaker 1: We appreciate you pulling up on this. Man, it's been
- 41:44Speaker 1: a pleasure. Listen, man, we can't wait. Some things in
- 41:46Speaker 1: the works. Man, we can't wait to see that happens.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Man. We ain't gonna say too much. You know what
- 41:49Speaker 3: I'm saying. Yes, you know I got it. I got
- 41:51Speaker 3: it all getting it. You know what I'm saying.
- 41:53Speaker 4: I'm gonna get it man, anytime I want me on
- 41:55Speaker 4: this five twenty club, I'm with y'all. Man, do it
- 41:58Speaker 4: a club five twenty Man, y'are doing a great job.
- 42:01Speaker 3: I told you. I respect y'all to the fullest. Man.
- 42:03Speaker 3: This is what I want to see and young guys
- 42:06Speaker 3: like y'all.
- 42:07Speaker 4: Man, get it, man, do what y'all want to do.
- 42:09Speaker 4: Man and they always. Man, set a mark for yourself. Man,
- 42:13Speaker 4: always when you lead something special with you, Jeffy playing
- 42:16Speaker 4: in the league, do your thing. Man, keep doing this
- 42:18Speaker 4: with your boys. Hook it up, man, do it and
- 42:21Speaker 4: tell y'all need me.
- 42:22Speaker 1: Halla Mobile Club five twenty out.
- 42:27Speaker 3: I appreciate it.
- 42:29Speaker 1: The volume
