- 0:00Hi everyone. Welcome to Mini Scroll, the
- 0:03daily Internet culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories
- 0:06from social media, the creator economy and the digital space.
- 0:10Every Monday through Thursday and sometimes Fridays.
- 0:13I'm your host, Lauren Meisner, the founder of the youth digital
- 0:17media brand Centennial World. Welcome back to Mini Scroll,
- 0:21everyone. All right, I actually have four
- 0:24stories today, so let's just get right into it.
- 0:26I have no updates for you guys, but as always, Please remember
- 0:30to rate, review and subscribe. Buy us a coffee if you feel so
- 0:33inclined, star rate US on Spotify, leave us an Apple
- 0:36review. All of it helps us so much.
- 0:39OK, the first story that I have for you guys, Mr. Beast is
- 0:43apparently trying to launch his own mobile network.
- 0:47So this story is making the rounds right now.
- 0:50But the information was obtained apparently earlier this year.
- 0:53So some of you guys might have heard of this but it is like not
- 0:56going viral but it's like making the rounds right now.
- 0:59So, a leaked investor deck obtained by Business Insider has
- 1:03revealed that Beast Industries, which is the company founded by
- 1:06Mr. Beast, is considering launching its own phone service.
- 1:10According to sources, the team is actively seeking partnerships
- 1:13but doesn't have a set launch date yet.
- 1:16However, apparently a 2026 rollout is in the plans.
- 1:19The proposal outlines the service as an MVNO, which stands
- 1:23for Mobile Virtual Network Operator, meaning it would
- 1:26operate under the Mr. Beast brand but rely on existing
- 1:30networks like T-Mobile to provide coverage.
- 1:33MVN OS, buy access from larger carriers and then sell their own
- 1:38branded plans. Which is also I guess what Ryan
- 1:41Reynolds did with Mint Mobile, which I had no idea.
- 1:44Like I did not know he owned a mobile cell phone network.
- 1:47And apparently he also sold Mint to T-Mobile in 2024 for $1.35
- 1:53billion. So Mr. Beast, he's going for
- 1:56that billion dollar acquisition. I guess it kind of sounds like
- 1:59private labeling for cell service, which is really funny.
- 2:02But I'm actually going to say that this is probably a good
- 2:04idea for Mr. Beast because if you think about his audience, as
- 2:08we have established many times, his audience are between the
- 2:10ages of like 6 and maybe if we're pushing it, like 10.
- 2:15And that's probably when kids are starting to get their first
- 2:19cell phones, maybe not 6, but you know, like when you enter
- 2:21into your preteen years. So from a business perspective,
- 2:24I think this actually could be a good idea because if you're
- 2:28like, I don't know, a nine year old boy and your parents are
- 2:30talking about getting you your first cell phone, of course
- 2:32you're going to beg them to be on Mr. B's phone plan.
- 2:35OK, the next story that I have for you guys, this is a quick
- 2:38one as well. But luxury lifestyle TikTok star
- 2:40Becca Bloom got married. And I think the vibes were
- 2:44stunning. I have seen some users say that
- 2:47the wedding itself was kind of underwhelming.
- 2:49And I would personally strongly disagree.
- 2:52I will put some photos up. But in general, there were so
- 2:54many colors. She wore so many unique dresses.
- 2:57Like, I loved the vibe. I don't really know what people
- 3:00expect from weddings. Like, there's only so many ways
- 3:03that you can put your own spin on a tradition like a wedding.
- 3:07But yeah, people are saying, so she got married in Lake Como,
- 3:10Italy. And people are saying this is
- 3:11such like a typical basic Lake Como wedding.
- 3:16OK, she's getting married in Lake Como.
- 3:18Like I'm down for a basic wedding if it's in Lake Como.
- 3:22It was also not basic. Again, it was, I thought it was
- 3:24actually quite unique and it was beautiful.
- 3:26Anyways, there are some people, so people just like love to shit
- 3:29on weddings. That's been OK.
- 3:30But there are also some people that are like, I can't believe
- 3:33that her wedding was sponsored by Lancome.
- 3:35OK, so her wedding was not sponsored by Lancome.
- 3:39She did one sponsored post for Lancome, the beauty brand, about
- 3:44her makeup. From working in the industry
- 3:47myself, I'm going to guess that the brand provided all the
- 3:51makeup for her wedding. They could have provided the
- 3:53makeup artist as well, like the glam, and obviously paid a
- 3:57premium to be a part of her wedding content.
- 4:01Not me out here, like defending someone who is so wildly rich.
- 4:04Like that's her entire brand. But honestly, I feel like people
- 4:07get really savage about weddings and they can get really mean.
- 4:10And also, I do have somewhat of a soft spot for Becca Bloom, a
- 4:14parasocial relationship with her, if you will, because she
- 4:16commented something really nice on my TikTok very recently.
- 4:19So me and Becca Bloom besties, OK, the next three that I have
- 4:24for you guys. This is like a bombshell today.
- 4:26Selena Gomez's mental health charity has been exposed by The
- 4:31Cut. Now I say Selena Gomez because
- 4:34she is the Co founder of it. But essentially the expose is
- 4:36about her mom Mandy. So Selena and her mom Mandy are
- 4:40the Co founders of Wonder Mind which is a mental health
- 4:43charity. Their Co founder is Daniella
- 4:46Pearson who is also the founder of the new Zet.
- 4:49But recently this is like an aside.
- 4:51But recently Daniella has come under fire by Forbes.
- 4:54Forbes wrote this scathing piece about her in August calling her
- 4:58career quote, smoke and mirrors. So I'm not going to get into
- 5:01that today, but it's a really interesting read if you want to
- 5:04go down that road. Anyway, back to wonder mind.
- 5:06So the piece by the cut mostly claims that Mandy again,
- 5:09Selena's mom was a quote, erratic boss and she was accused
- 5:13of, quote, hallucinating a break in at the company, spending
- 5:17several nights sleeping at the office, including with her young
- 5:19daughter and regularly received injections of liquid Benadryl,
- 5:23though she reportedly told others that they were vitamin IV
- 5:26drips. One former employee described
- 5:28her office as a quote drug den, while others claimed they
- 5:32witnessed her snort what they believed to be Ritalin, which is
- 5:35a medication to treat ADHD. This is directly from the piece
- 5:38Quote. Employees at Wonder Mine had
- 5:40come to expect erratic behavior from their boss, like
- 5:43disappearances that lasted days or even weeks, and unpredictable
- 5:47angry outbursts since the company was launched a year and
- 5:49a half before TV. So Selena's mom's name is Mandy.
- 5:52TV had gone through phases of sleeping in her office where she
- 5:56had two couches. She seemed to stay for days
- 5:58without bathing. There was number shower in the
- 6:00suite and sometimes without changing her clothes.
- 6:03And then this is another quote. According to dozens of
- 6:06conversations, the company's grand mission and basic
- 6:08operations were tanked by Gomez's and TV's personal and
- 6:12family dysfunction, including the denial of TV's instability.
- 6:16Selena knew her mother was not well enough to be running that
- 6:19company. Now, this is actually not the
- 6:20first time that we have heard issues about Wonder Mind.
- 6:24Back in May, reports emerged saying that the company couldn't
- 6:28make payroll. Quote according to several
- 6:30staffers, TV said Gomez had stepped in multiple times to
- 6:33cover employee payroll. The article also does share some
- 6:37things about Selena, including one instance where she was
- 6:40apparently noticeably drunk and slurring her words at a team
- 6:43dinner in its first year, like in the charity's first year, and
- 6:47was telling the table of employees that she would be
- 6:49leaving early to have sex. Now, in a statement to Us
- 6:52Weekly, Mandy denied snorting Ritalin in her office, saying it
- 6:56absolutely never happened. Quote, I started wonder mind
- 6:59because I wanted to help people with mental illness.
- 7:01It's unfortunate that a few disgruntled employees with an
- 7:04axe to grind can spread lies about me and distort the truth.
- 7:08Even more disappointing that the media is willing to amplify
- 7:11their lives. I actually don't really know
- 7:14anything about Selena Gomez's home life.
- 7:16She was a little just going to like, make me sound so old, but
- 7:19like, she was a little bit too like, young for me coming up.
- 7:23Like, I was more of like a Hilary Duff era girl.
- 7:26So I didn't follow Selena very closely in those younger years.
- 7:30I don't know much about like her Disney career and her parents
- 7:33and the family stuff that comes along with being being a Disney
- 7:35kid. I know we often do hear about
- 7:37that. So if you guys did follow Selena
- 7:40and you're more familiar with that, like let me know what you
- 7:42think about this whole story. I will say I do not like the
- 7:45disgruntled ex employees narrative.
- 7:48You know, like I don't know anybody that is going to the
- 7:50media with stories of their ex bosses unless something like
- 7:53really serious was going on at their workplace.
- 7:55I'm not saying that these are all totally the truth, but I am
- 8:00saying I don't like the narrative that like anybody who
- 8:02speaks out about someone in power, about an ex employer is
- 8:05just spreading lies and looking for attention.
- 8:08They were just bad at their job. They couldn't copy it.
- 8:10Like whatever the narrative is often painted around these ex
- 8:13employees. Like I think they usually have a
- 8:16leg to stand on. OK.
- 8:17And the last way that I have for you guys is that Sophia Richie
- 8:20has teased that she is launching a fashion brand.
- 8:23Sophia Richie is seemingly about to launch a fashion brand.
- 8:26Today, she posted a screenshot of a new Instagram page called
- 8:30SRG Atelier for Sophia Richie Grange, obviously.
- 8:34And she set in it almost here. Then the bio of that page says
- 8:38coming soon. And Sophia also reposted this
- 8:41infographic from people, brands and things that reads spotted.
- 8:45Sophia Richie Grange has just started teasing the launch of
- 8:48her fashion brand SRG at Tilly Gay with a sneaky photo of some
- 8:52items and their new social account.
- 8:54Oh, yeah. She posted this photo with like,
- 8:56the eyes emoji, like the emoji. And you can only just see like
- 9:01the top of a bunch of jackets and they look maybe like leather
- 9:04jackets. But I fear you guys.
- 9:07I fear this is going to be really boring.
- 9:09I don't know, maybe she will surprise us.
- 9:11I also could see that I could see her coming out with
- 9:13something like really cool, but my initial gut reaction is I
- 9:18foresee very expensive neutral basics that like every celebrity
- 9:24influencer brand is already selling us like Morgan Stewart,
- 9:28Molly May, Matilda Girf, like that kind of vibe.
- 9:31I know Morgan Stewart is like more elevated and there is more
- 9:33creativity with her designs, but still like still in that same
- 9:36realm of like these are basics. You can wear these everyday and
- 9:39they're expensive. However, she has been partnering
- 9:41with Amazon on like shopping related stuff lately, like doing
- 9:45shopping related partnerships with them.
- 9:47So I also maybe could see her doing a more affordable range.
- 9:51But I still think it's going to be that kind of like elegant
- 9:55elevated clean girl aesthetic. I'm so done.
- 9:58I'm so done with the clean girl vibe.
- 10:01Bring back color, sequins, sparkles, fun pattern.
- 10:07Bring back full glam. Bring back big hair.
- 10:10Give me like a smoky eye and a nude lip or a red lip and a
- 10:15wings liner. Like give me a beat to the gods.
- 10:20That will get me every single time clean girl, I'm done.
- 10:24It looks good when you're like this close to somebody, but far
- 10:27away. We all look with the slick back
- 10:30like so few people can pull off the slick back.
- 10:32I can't pull off the slick back when they wear a slick back.
- 10:34I know it's like unwell, but it's just like desperation, you
- 10:37know, so few people look good with the slick back.
- 10:39Please let your hair flow let it down.
- 10:42We're all getting receding hairline.
- 10:45OK anyways guys, that's it for mini scroll today.
- 10:47Thank you so much for listening. I love you guys.
- 10:50Please remember to rate, review and subscribe.
- 10:53I love you and I will talk to you tomorrow for a Friday mini
- 10:56scroll. Bye.
