108. Haenyos, Smugglers, and 70s Funk
Is this the best underwater brawl we’ve ever seen??? South Korea’s national treasures, the Haenyos, make waves in 2023’s Smugglers, a splashy, bold action-flick inspired by real-life Haenyos’ smuggling dives during Korea’s turbulent 70s. And we’re all in! In this episode, we plunge into the film’s fantastic cast, soak up all that 70s grooviness, and uncover its fierce feminist themes that make us wanna dive in and take on some bad guys.
