- 30:01Speaker 5: music is running the industry right now. Right, even in
- 30:05Speaker 5: sikki or kurdu grun sab or scripture is written in music. Right,
- 30:09Speaker 5: you walk into any six temple, you're gonna hear music.
- 30:12Speaker 5: The gurdle grun sab rhymes right. So music is already
- 30:16Speaker 5: in my dna, and I just needed a kind of
- 30:20Speaker 5: connection to it being born and raised in Jersey or
- 30:23Speaker 5: the Punjabi music at the time when I was like
- 30:26Speaker 5: eight years old didn't connect to me, right, Like dadubkado kid,
- 30:30Speaker 5: that's not going to hit a eight year old, right.
- 30:32Speaker 5: But like, but when I first heard hip hop, it
- 30:37Speaker 5: was I heard shook ones by Mop Deep right. And
- 30:42Speaker 5: also at this time, you know, nine to eleven had
- 30:45Speaker 5: just happened. So if you looked anything like me, it
- 30:48Speaker 5: was lit for you, you know what I mean. So
- 30:51Speaker 5: I'm already in a back against the wall kind of mentality,
- 30:55Speaker 5: you know, even just growing up sick, the warrior, saint
- 30:59Speaker 5: soldier mentality was already there. And when I heard hip hop,
- 31:02Speaker 5: it was the first time where words and lyrics became
- 31:07Speaker 5: visual to me. Right, I could envision when Prodigy said
- 31:11Speaker 5: lock you in your face, that your brain with your
- 31:13Speaker 5: nose bone, right, it was like a funny it's it's
- 31:17Speaker 5: you know, I could I visualize that, like, oh shit,
- 31:19Speaker 5: you could do that my dad? Can I curse my
- 31:21Speaker 5: fat carry? Yeah? But but yeah, it was the first
- 31:27Speaker 5: time words like like connected directly to my brain and
- 31:32Speaker 5: that form of expression, just that that connection was made.
- 31:36Speaker 5: And then also the bridge between sick key and hip
- 31:40Speaker 5: hop is not a hard bridge to draw. You know,
- 31:43Speaker 5: we have a lot of similar themes. If I was
- 31:46Speaker 5: to tell you which one I'm describing, and I talk
- 31:49Speaker 5: about giving a voice to the voiceless, fighting against depression,
- 31:53Speaker 5: be a saint and a soldier, all that stuff, it
- 31:55Speaker 5: sounds like I could be describing hip hop or sicky right.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Like it's a.
- 31:59Speaker 5: It's a pretty easy bridge to draw right there too.
- 32:02Speaker 5: So when that connection was made, I got, you know,
- 32:06Speaker 5: obsessed with hip hop and just learning. I was born
- 32:09Speaker 5: in ninety four. The time I'm talking about right now
- 32:12Speaker 5: is like two thousand and three. I was like eight
- 32:14Speaker 5: years old. I wrote my first rhyme. I got introduced
- 32:18Speaker 5: to LimeWire, right, So now I'm I'm researching, you know, musicologist,
- 32:25Speaker 5: right yeah, yeah, yeah, So like I'm you know, I
- 32:30Speaker 5: heard Eminem and then I see Eminem give a speech
- 32:32Speaker 5: and he was naming all the mcs that inspired him,
- 32:36Speaker 5: and he said jay Z and Nas and and then
- 32:38Speaker 5: I go to a Nas album. Oh he got a
- 32:40Speaker 5: song with kolg Rap. Let me check out cool g Rap.
- 32:42Speaker 5: And then and then Dad goes into Big Daddy Kane
- 32:45Speaker 5: and Pop and Biggie and Big L and Big Pun.
- 32:47Speaker 5: And I did my hip hop history, you know what
- 32:49Speaker 5: I mean. I learned who Cool Herk was and Cedric Ave.
- 32:52Speaker 5: I learned about ll cool J and Trench from Naughty
- 32:55Speaker 5: by Nature, Red Man, Message Man, everybody like I had
- 32:59Speaker 5: to do that, right so while and then it's also
- 33:03Speaker 5: like when I where I grew up, I was also
- 33:06Speaker 5: everybody I was around I also was given the idea
- 33:09Speaker 5: you know, basically you got to show respect to when
- 33:14Speaker 5: you walk through a hood, you got to show respect.
- 33:16Speaker 9: Right.
- 33:16Speaker 5: So it's the same thing with with rap, right. And
- 33:20Speaker 5: then yeah, the art form and then the idea of
- 33:24Speaker 5: rappers back in the day, it was a lot different
- 33:27Speaker 5: than how people portrayed today. But a rapper was an
- 33:30Speaker 5: example of discipline, you know what I mean. Back in
- 33:32Speaker 5: the days, it was like like the vibe you got
- 33:35Speaker 5: when a rapper walked in the room was the same
- 33:37Speaker 5: as when like a usc fighter or a boxer walked
- 33:40Speaker 5: into the rap right, something to where it's like this person,
- 33:43Speaker 5: whatever they do, you could tell they put in hours,
- 33:46Speaker 5: they're dedicated to a craft.
- 33:48Speaker 22: Right.
- 33:48Speaker 5: And that's the idea of a rapper that I got
- 33:50Speaker 5: introduced to, right. And one of the things you had
- 33:54Speaker 5: the idea of a rapper was a Swiss army knife.
- 33:58Speaker 13: Right.
- 33:58Speaker 5: You could rap fast, wrap, slow, rap with punchlines, tell
- 34:01Speaker 5: a story, make a love song, make a club song, perform,
- 34:06Speaker 5: you know, and battling was just one of the things
- 34:08Speaker 5: you had to do if you were a rapper.
- 34:11Speaker 1: You know, Tom went on, Yeah, exactly as time.
- 34:14Speaker 5: Went on, you know, people started separating the two, and
- 34:17Speaker 5: then you started getting people that were just battle rappers
- 34:20Speaker 5: or just studio rappers, right, or just freestylers. But you know,
- 34:25Speaker 5: everybody before like two thousand and three did everything, you know,
- 34:29Speaker 5: and that idea of a rapper is what I got
- 34:32Speaker 5: introduced to it. And then battling, you know, just happened.
- 34:37Speaker 5: It was just one of the things that I was like,
- 34:39Speaker 5: I need to as I'm showing myself and you know,
- 34:43Speaker 5: going places in Ciphering and Jersey, and people are finding
- 34:47Speaker 5: out I rap, and obviously I'm the only sick they've
- 34:50Speaker 5: ever seen rap, let alone, the only South Asian they've
- 34:53Speaker 5: ever seen rap. Right, So they were like, oh yeah,
- 34:55Speaker 5: the Indian kid, Yeah he raps, he raps. And then
- 34:57Speaker 5: now I have to be crazy, you know what I mean,
- 35:00Speaker 5: Like they're the extra pressure there because there's no example
- 35:04Speaker 5: for the people around me at the time of somebody
- 35:07Speaker 5: that looks.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Like, let's talk about this this point right here. You're
- 35:12Speaker 1: in one of the most fiercest environments socially you can
- 35:17Speaker 1: find out there. Hey man, the battle rap environment. It's
- 35:21Speaker 1: like all yes, you know, all bets are off, and
- 35:24Speaker 1: and now you're in a position where you put yourself
- 35:28Speaker 1: there with an identity. It's clearly unique. Nobody looks like you,
- 35:32Speaker 1: Nobody has your background, nobody has the tattoos and the
- 35:36Speaker 1: stories and the turbine and all that right to where
- 35:41Speaker 1: that's drenched in our history. And for you to go
- 35:44Speaker 1: forward and actually have to represent I know that people
- 35:48Speaker 1: test that. They they ask you about it, They pushed,
- 35:51Speaker 1: they pushed the line a little bit on that. They
- 35:55Speaker 1: may even get offensive at certain times. My question to
- 35:57Speaker 1: you is how do you handle that? And let's for
- 36:00Speaker 1: me when I see that every time you have addressed
- 36:03Speaker 1: that moment, you've done it with such class and such
- 36:06Speaker 1: dignity for the culture and man. That must take so
- 36:09Speaker 1: much discipline for sure.
- 36:13Speaker 5: But you know it comes with the territory, right If
- 36:16Speaker 5: you know, if if there's a white guy that tries
- 36:21Speaker 5: of taekwondo, he's going to stand out, right, he's in
- 36:25Speaker 5: a He's in something that people normally don't look like him,
- 36:29Speaker 5: right are doing so hip hop is a black art form.
- 36:33Speaker 1: I'm sick, so I'm.
- 36:35Speaker 5: Going to stick out. So it's part of the territory.
- 36:37Speaker 3: I know.
- 36:38Speaker 5: If I'm battling somebody, you know it's going to come up.
- 36:42Speaker 5: It's a Alison in the room again. Another reason I
- 36:44Speaker 5: put sick in my name, right, Like, when I was
- 36:47Speaker 5: growing up, nobody around me knew what.
- 36:49Speaker 1: A sick was.
- 36:50Speaker 5: I was the only kid in my school with a
- 36:53Speaker 5: with a turbin on, right, So like it wasn't like
- 36:56Speaker 5: the other South Asians who maybe were able to assimilate,
- 37:00Speaker 5: you know, if they didn't, you know, weren't comfortable with
- 37:04Speaker 5: standing out or whatever the case may be. I'm standing
- 37:06Speaker 5: out amongst South Asians and amongst Americans, you know, so
- 37:10Speaker 5: I have to kind of accept you know, why try
- 37:14Speaker 5: to fit in if you're a standout, right, So, I know,
- 37:18Speaker 5: walking into hip hop the same way, it's kind of
- 37:22Speaker 5: it's just a prideful thing to where I'm like, look,
- 37:25Speaker 5: I'm not trying to be anything I'm not. I'm not
- 37:27Speaker 5: putting on the front. This is me, this is who
- 37:30Speaker 5: I am. Do your worst, but I get to respond,
- 37:33Speaker 5: you know what I mean. And it's also battle rap.
- 37:35Speaker 5: There's a camaraderie there with competition. It's kind of like
- 37:39Speaker 5: you know sometimes when you get in a fight with
- 37:41Speaker 5: your friends, you got you become closer after that, right,
- 37:43Speaker 5: So it's kind of the same way. You'll you'll have yeah,
- 37:47Speaker 5: you'll have you'll have these you know, UFC fighters will
- 37:50Speaker 5: beat the crap out of each other and then you know,
- 37:52Speaker 5: shake hands.
- 37:53Speaker 1: So that's what I get that, Yeah, and to be
- 37:58Speaker 1: and to be honest.
- 37:59Speaker 5: The best part. Another another thing that I see working,
- 38:04Speaker 5: which is letting me know, you know, spreading, spreading uh
- 38:08Speaker 5: news about my identity is working. Is after the battle,
- 38:11Speaker 5: my opponent will always be like, you know, beautiful religion. Man,
- 38:15Speaker 5: I didn't know about it, you know what I mean?
- 38:17Speaker 5: And now like, uh, for example, I had a battle
- 38:20Speaker 5: in Canada and uh what they came out shout out
- 38:23Speaker 5: to Yeah everybody, Yeah, and everybody calls me sick in
- 38:28Speaker 5: battle Rap, right, just sick. They're like, yo, what's up? Sick?
- 38:31Speaker 4: Right?
- 38:31Speaker 5: And everybody that's walking by me, Yo, sick? What up? Sick?
- 38:34Speaker 5: What up? He's like, Yo. It's so dope to see
- 38:37Speaker 5: people just stay sick. The word sick is in the
- 38:40Speaker 5: ether now, you know what I mean. Growing up, it
- 38:43Speaker 5: wasn't that common. So just to see that, it's like
- 38:46Speaker 5: and now somebody that's a fan of battle Rap, if
- 38:49Speaker 5: they come across another sick, they'll be like, oh are
- 38:51Speaker 5: you are you sick?
- 38:52Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 38:52Speaker 5: I know, because a battle Rapp where I watch, et cetera,
- 38:55Speaker 5: et cetera. You know what I mean. So it had
- 38:57Speaker 5: its pro it's more more pros than cons. The cons
- 39:01Speaker 5: are obviously people you know, diverting things that might be
- 39:06Speaker 5: in the religious text or trying to use it against
- 39:09Speaker 5: you or disrespecting it or whatever. But people never really
- 39:12Speaker 5: go super you know, crazy like that. And then again, you,
- 39:17Speaker 5: like you said, I get a chance to respond, so
- 39:20Speaker 5: you know, I get.
- 39:21Speaker 1: To defend it in the right way too, Yes, sir,
- 39:23Speaker 1: you do. I man, I have a lot of respect
- 39:25Speaker 1: for you, I really do, because of how you handle
- 39:27Speaker 1: yourself and how you do that and for you to
- 39:30Speaker 1: be out there and let's just call it kind of
- 39:34Speaker 1: like the culture you know, out there and representing our
- 39:37Speaker 1: culture and doing it in the way that you do. Man,
- 39:40Speaker 1: it's super commendable. And I wanted to give you a
- 39:43Speaker 1: big shout out on the air about that.
- 39:44Speaker 7: Man.
- 39:45Speaker 1: We have a lot of love and respect from us
- 39:46Speaker 1: for what you do out there in the culture. And
- 39:48Speaker 1: so thank you, thank you, man, Thank you. I appreciate Listen, brother,
- 39:52Speaker 1: before I let you go here, and as you guys know,
- 39:54Speaker 1: I'm talking to real sick here. One last question. You know,
- 39:58Speaker 1: one thing that people forget about you is, after all,
- 40:02Speaker 1: you are a recording artist. And yeah, the battleground of
- 40:06Speaker 1: being in the world of battle rhyme is one thing,
- 40:10Speaker 1: but at the end of the day, as a recording artist,
- 40:12Speaker 1: that the true heart of what you're doing out there
- 40:13Speaker 1: and the work that you're doing going forward is something
- 40:16Speaker 1: that you are really putting a lot of passion into.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Tell us about this last album that you put out
- 40:22Speaker 1: back in late twenty and twenty five, and what are
- 40:25Speaker 1: the plans they're going forward. Yeah.
- 40:28Speaker 5: So, like I said, you know, when I got introduced
- 40:32Speaker 5: the idea of a rapper, of somebody that did everything right.
- 40:35Speaker 5: So I've always made music. Battle rap is just the
- 40:39Speaker 5: first thing that really really popped off for me. It
- 40:41Speaker 5: gave me a lot of notoriety. But music has always
- 40:45Speaker 5: been a passion of mind. I've always been making music.
- 40:48Speaker 5: Music is in my DNA, right. So I finally started
- 40:53Speaker 5: releasing more music last year. I dropped the album. It's
- 40:57Speaker 5: more of an EP kind of, but it's just a project.
- 40:59Speaker 5: I guess you call it. I don't know the terms
- 41:01Speaker 5: I but uh, it's called Six Thoughts. It's a good
- 41:05Speaker 5: eight songs, a lot of versatility, on there basically since
- 41:11Speaker 5: people know me from battle rap. I know my fan
- 41:14Speaker 5: base likes watching transition with them and show them and
- 41:20Speaker 5: that or see how many people like listening to me rap. Right,
- 41:24Speaker 5: it's a different it's a different thing that you have
- 41:26Speaker 5: to maneuver when it comes from battle rapping and making music.
- 41:29Speaker 5: And then so I'm kind of just right now the
- 41:32Speaker 5: stage of my career that I am with music is
- 41:34Speaker 5: kind of just showing versatility, showing songwriting skills, showing I
- 41:40Speaker 5: could do both right basically, and kind of also bringing
- 41:43Speaker 5: some of that battle rap energy into song format in
- 41:46Speaker 5: a way to where it meshes and it's a it's
- 41:49Speaker 5: a perfect connection rather than you know, a lot of
- 41:52Speaker 5: battle rappers will mess up because they'll try to battle
- 41:55Speaker 5: on a song and it.
- 41:55Speaker 1: Doesn't work, you know what I mean, different balgains.
- 42:00Speaker 5: Yeah, music is what feelings sound like, right, So it's
- 42:03Speaker 5: kind of like that's what that's what my goal with
- 42:07Speaker 5: music is. And you know, I've been quietly working on
- 42:11Speaker 5: a lot of stuff that around mid June to late June,
- 42:14Speaker 5: I'm going to start releasing a lot. Music is kind
- 42:17Speaker 5: of the next focus for me because I've battled everybody,
- 42:20Speaker 5: you know, luckily that I've wanted to battle all my favorites,
- 42:23Speaker 5: you know, Disaster, Arsenal, Charlie, Clips from Nitty Tayrok, you
- 42:27Speaker 5: name that. I've battled everybody the greatest in battle Rap.
- 42:31Speaker 5: Think I'm one of the best.
- 42:32Speaker 1: And that's that's I agree, you know.
- 42:35Speaker 5: And because that part is accomplished, now I want to
- 42:39Speaker 5: go to you know, the goal is that if you're
- 42:43Speaker 5: naming the top ten and my name is in there,
- 42:45Speaker 5: it doesn't sound crazy. And I am blessed enough to
- 42:49Speaker 5: where that got into battle Rap to where people can
- 42:51Speaker 5: name their favorites and if my name is there, people
- 42:53Speaker 5: will be like, yeah, he's Stipe. Now the goal is
- 42:57Speaker 5: when people say, yeah, Tupac, Biggy, Eminem, Jay z Real,
- 43:01Speaker 5: Sick Nas, whatever, and it sounds like it makes sense,
- 43:05Speaker 5: you know what I mean. That's the that's the next goal.
- 43:08Speaker 5: And you know, being a rapper, being an MC the
- 43:11Speaker 5: way that I am, I think that's pretty you know,
- 43:14Speaker 5: that's that's not hard to do, you know what I mean.
- 43:17Speaker 1: So we can see it now. It's it's within eyesight.
- 43:21Speaker 1: And you have a show here and a platform here
- 43:25Speaker 1: here to support you. Brother. We are big fans of you.
- 43:27Speaker 1: We wanted to thank you for all that you're doing
- 43:29Speaker 1: out there in the culture and how you're moving hip
- 43:31Speaker 1: hop forward, and not only for the mainstream and then
- 43:35Speaker 1: you're stretching out the consciousness of what mainstream hip hop
- 43:38Speaker 1: is and in a new direction with your presence, but
- 43:40Speaker 1: also for what you're doing in the South Asian community
- 43:42Speaker 1: and representing it. So hot's off to you.
- 43:44Speaker 5: Sure, yeah, thank you. I appreciate it. Well.
- 43:47Speaker 1: Listen, I wanted to thank you, And if you don't mind,
- 43:50Speaker 1: can you do us the big favorite? Listen, we're big fans,
- 43:53Speaker 1: a big big bird on this show, and so I
- 43:56Speaker 1: wanted to play this song sick to death really quickly.
- 43:59Speaker 1: Can you do it? That's the honor of introducing this
- 44:01Speaker 1: for us?
- 44:02Speaker 5: Yeah, for sure, So shout out the Big Bird for
- 44:06Speaker 5: me and him. Were always trying to get some work
- 44:09Speaker 5: in and we finally came across a beat with this
- 44:13Speaker 5: as a sample, a rung it but empty sample in it.
- 44:16Speaker 5: And it was also, you know, me putting this on
- 44:18Speaker 5: my project with the fan base that I have is
- 44:20Speaker 5: kind of like I'm introducing them to you know, the
- 44:24Speaker 5: culture and stuff. So this was kind of okay. This
- 44:27Speaker 5: inspired me to kind of write the attitude of being
- 44:31Speaker 5: as sick growing up where I grew up right back
- 44:33Speaker 5: against the wall mentality, that kind of stuff, and also
- 44:37Speaker 5: trying to evoke that kind of the warrior saint soldier
- 44:42Speaker 5: attitude that I have as a sick that we're all
- 44:44Speaker 5: brought up as right so, but doing it in a
- 44:47Speaker 5: hip hop way, right. So that's kind of the idea
- 44:51Speaker 5: of what this song is again shout out the Big
- 44:53Speaker 5: Bird and it's a dope, you know, storytelling kind of record,
- 44:58Speaker 5: a little bit more introspective, and it's just a glimpse
- 45:02Speaker 5: into the kind of things I was thinking while growing up.
- 45:05Speaker 1: Love it man. Here's the song Sick to Death for
- 45:07Speaker 1: you guys, Thank you so much, real thick. Here's the track.
- 45:11Speaker 3: I want you to travel with me and walk through
- 45:13Speaker 3: the passive bit before the boys and the raps and
- 45:16Speaker 3: why all this is happening. When I grew up in
- 45:18Speaker 3: a world feel the targeted as a sick, only support
- 45:21Speaker 3: I had was the ball in my pack against had
- 45:23Speaker 3: to be motivated saint in a soldier. I can't no
- 45:26Speaker 3: one breaking so much strength holding my own with the
- 45:28Speaker 3: lonely road I'm taking, boring and raising it. Moiver, your
- 45:30Speaker 3: culture will portray it hope to make a statement associated
- 45:34Speaker 3: with representing sick kid had to build up respect he
- 45:36Speaker 3: every city.
- 45:37Speaker 1: Step by step, I.
- 45:38Speaker 3: Quickly set the message never been agiss me and the.
- 45:40Speaker 7: Rest is history.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Gotta protect the effortlessly trying to set the records risky,
- 45:44Speaker 3: so I kept a weapon with me, playing remenentd art.
- 45:47Speaker 3: Can't edit the thought of a man ready for ball
- 45:50Speaker 3: whose ancestors were martyrs. When you're purpose grady, you're gonna
- 45:53Speaker 3: raise it.
- 45:54Speaker 1: To you die.
- 45:54Speaker 3: And now I'm gonna walk to the light with this
- 45:56Speaker 3: song playing in my mind. When you're purpose grater, you're
- 46:04Speaker 3: gonna raise a deep God. I'm gonna walk to the
- 46:07Speaker 3: light with this song playing and my mind. When you're
- 46:15Speaker 3: purpose grater, you're gonna raise a deep God. And I'm
- 46:17Speaker 3: gonna walk to the light with this song playing in
- 46:20Speaker 3: my mind.
- 46:20Speaker 7: My praying the land of.
- 46:21Speaker 1: The Five Rivers what I'm buried on.
- 46:23Speaker 3: When we run with the five k's like a marathon,
- 46:26Speaker 3: carry on the tradition strictly bearing off only fearing God,
- 46:30Speaker 3: it would definitely scared it off. Seeing evil deeds of
- 46:33Speaker 3: meaning that we had to strike reason being we is
- 46:36Speaker 3: a people dream to be at the fight bleeding for
- 46:38Speaker 3: believing if freedom no traumatic sight, every sacrifices a bragging
- 46:42Speaker 3: right in the after life.
- 46:44Speaker 1: Being kicked at the curb, a gifting.
- 46:45Speaker 3: The curse, all of the bridges I've earned, ignited, the
- 46:48Speaker 3: will to be heard, given the realism it happens, They
- 46:50Speaker 3: never gonna sense of my worst if I get killed
- 46:52Speaker 3: while I'm rapping in my spirit to finish the first
- 46:54Speaker 3: still still the filling, dealing with high steaks, no villain
- 46:58Speaker 3: kill the will of a militant mind state. When your
- 47:01Speaker 3: purpose gready, you will raise it to you God. And
- 47:03Speaker 3: I'm a walk to the light with this song playing
- 47:05Speaker 3: in my mon. When you're purpose gady, you will raise
- 47:14Speaker 3: it God. I'm a walk to the light with this
- 47:16Speaker 3: song playing, and my mom, when you're purpose gay, you
- 47:24Speaker 3: will raise God the delight with this song playing.
- 47:30Speaker 1: The song is called Sick to Death, produced by Big Bird.
- 47:35Speaker 1: And I really enjoyed that conversation with Real Sick, and
- 47:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna share more on this in the closing remarks.
- 47:42Speaker 1: He are coming up. But if you're only seeing Real
- 47:45Speaker 1: Sick as a rapper, or if you're only seeing him
- 47:49Speaker 1: as a freestyle battle rapper, you're not seeing who he
- 47:54Speaker 1: is and I'll share more on this, but I'm just
- 47:58Speaker 1: really impressed by real sick. Now, let's bring Induita to
- 48:01Speaker 1: the show.
- 48:02Speaker 23: Hi, everyone, this is the Urakas Avenue Radio music correspondent
- 48:06Speaker 23: back with another artist spotlight. Today we're spotlighting Wazir Potter,
- 48:10Speaker 23: the multi talented Punjabi producer, rapper, director and beat architect
- 48:15Speaker 23: from Amitzer. Born in nineteen ninety six, Wazir built his
- 48:19Speaker 23: reputation behind the scenes producing massive tracks at the last
- 48:23Speaker 23: rack for Sidney Musawala, which was his final recording.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Now he's officially stepping into.
- 48:28Speaker 23: The booth as a recording artist, with his debut EP,
- 48:30Speaker 23: Wazir Tank, released alongside a mini documentary about restoring a
- 48:34Speaker 23: nineteen ninety Mercedes W one twenty four, a powerful metaphor
- 48:38Speaker 23: for his creative vision. Blending heritage with innovation, Wazir's sound
- 48:43Speaker 23: is uniquely his traditional Punjabi folk melodies layered over hard
- 48:47Speaker 23: hitting hip hop beats, crafted with precision and purpose. Most recently,
- 48:51Speaker 23: his song Notorious is being hailed as a stand up
- 48:54Speaker 23: piece that really captures his artistry. Wazir Potter isn't just
- 48:58Speaker 23: making music. His built a movement rooted in cultural memory,
- 49:02Speaker 23: technical mastery, and authenticity. Well that's all from me. Stay

- 57:19Speaker 1: called is Dada. What a great interview and a great
- 57:23Speaker 1: conversation with real sick today and I wanted to give
- 57:25Speaker 1: you my closing remarks on my thoughts of the conversation today.
- 57:30Speaker 1: You know, I'll tell you something started a hip hop
- 57:33Speaker 1: group in the late nineties called Karmacy. You guys probably
- 57:36Speaker 1: know this, And I'll tell you what we never did.
- 57:41Speaker 1: We never stepped into a battle rap cipher, not because
- 57:46Speaker 1: we couldn't write, because we knew that what would happen
- 57:49Speaker 1: the second we walked in. The whole point of battle
- 57:52Speaker 1: rap is to find the thing about you that you're carrying,
- 57:55Speaker 1: your identity, your family, your culture, your difference, and take
- 57:59Speaker 1: it apart in front of a crowd that came specifically
- 58:02Speaker 1: to watch you get taken apart for it. That was
- 58:06Speaker 1: the room, and the room hasn't gotten any softer in
- 58:10Speaker 1: the last twenty years, twenty five years since I was there.
- 58:14Speaker 1: It's gotten harsher. The Internet, the cameras, the leagues, the audiences,
- 58:20Speaker 1: the vote, it's all more brutal now than it ever
- 58:23Speaker 1: was then. And into that room walks real Sick, wearing
- 58:28Speaker 1: a turban, with his faith on his chest, with no
- 58:31Speaker 1: part of himself sanded down to make the moment easier
- 58:34Speaker 1: on him. And what does he do? He wins the
- 58:38Speaker 1: respect of that room. He turns the thing that they
- 58:40Speaker 1: thought would be a disadvantage into the thing that nobody
- 58:44Speaker 1: could take from him. He actually gives every young South
- 58:48Speaker 1: Asian kid who was ever made to feel less than
- 58:53Speaker 1: for who they are a blueprint they didn't have before.
- 58:58Speaker 1: He takes the part of himself somebody else wanted to
- 59:00Speaker 1: mock and turns it into the part somebody else has
- 59:04Speaker 1: to honor. That isn't a rapper, that's a hero. Real
- 59:08Speaker 1: Sick is a modern day superhero and his cape isn't
- 59:11Speaker 1: about rap. His cape is about identity. We owe him flowers,
- 59:16Speaker 1: our community does all of us. He took our battle
- 59:20Speaker 1: face first by himself in the harshest arena of this
- 59:24Speaker 1: society puts in front of any artist an he won.
- 59:28Speaker 1: Kudos to him, respect to him today on this show,
- 59:32Speaker 1: the man himself sat down with me and I enjoyed it.
- 59:35Speaker 1: Great conversation. Tonight, go listen to his work, Go watch
- 59:39Speaker 1: some of his videos, and tell a kid in your
- 59:42Speaker 1: life what he just showed them was possible. See tomorrow,
