- 18:19makes campaigns stop in Pikeville by Terry L. May News editor,
- 18:27One of the several Republican candidates seeking the U. S.
- 18:31Senate seat being vacated by Mitch McConnell, talked with local
- 18:37voters in Pikeville as part of a whirlwind tour in
- 18:41eastern Kentucky during the morning of April first, Daniel Cameron
- 18:47came to Pikeville and talked to supporters during a morning
- 18:50session at Heavenly Doughnuts. After that, he traveled to Paintsville
- 18:56and Hazard, respectively. He ended his day at Young Republicans
- 19:01in Turning Point USA rally on the campus of the
- 19:04University of Kentucky. During his time in Pikesville, Cameron emphasized
- 19:10his focus on issues like lowering taxes, energy independence, and
- 19:14America First Movement. He also talked about his tenure as
- 19:19Kentucky's Attorney general, his pro family philosophy, conservative values, and
- 19:24his Christian beliefs. Drawing on Pike Counties in Eastern Kentucky's
- 19:30history with the mining industry, he promoted several co related topics,
- 19:35such as extracting rare earth minerals essential for high tech
- 19:39defense and green energy applications, and increasing coal stockpiles for
- 19:47energy utility for energy production. I believe there are more
- 19:53and more concerns about blackouts and gray outs, Cameron said.
- 20:00The way to rectify that is to ensure that we
- 20:02have a stockpile of coal here. That means we have
- 20:06of the reserve, but it also means that we can
- 20:09put more people back into the mining operations. That can
- 20:13allow for exploration to get coal and have it in
- 20:17stockpiles while while which will maintain our security interests not
- 20:23only here but across the country. He is currently, he said,
- 20:30current guidelines require up to a one hundred and twenty
- 20:33day stockpile for emergency situations. However, Cameron wants to see
- 20:38that emergency stockpile reserve increased to one hundred and eighty
- 20:41day to one hundred and eighty day requirement. When I
- 20:45think about what our issues are as a nation, its
- 20:50energy independence, its national security, Cameron said, some of the
- 20:55things that power our iPhones and cell phones and other
- 21:00electronic devices are what we are referred to as rare
- 21:04earth minerals. We have a lot of coal ash in Kentucky.
- 21:09If we extract rare earth elements from the coal ash,
- 21:13that will allow us to source those mineral materials domestically,
- 21:18He continued. It would be really critical and really big,
- 21:24big important step for Kentucky. He said plants would be
- 21:29needed for extraction of that process. Kentucky would be perfect
- 21:34location for that. Cameron also stressed that when large industries
- 21:40would be recruited for rural areas, having multiple smaller manufacturing
- 21:46opportunities located in these areas would also be an economic
- 21:51boom for struggling communities. He also addressed term limits and
- 21:58said that if elected, he would see to have only
- 22:00two terms. I think every every so often we need
- 22:04new blood and new ideas in the Congress, a new energy,
- 22:09a new vigor. Cameron said, that is what I hope
- 22:12to bring during this period of time when he asked
- 22:16when asked about his relationship with McConnell, Cameron said he
- 22:21would be he would be beholden to no one but
- 22:25his constituents. I have had I have had people ask
- 22:29me if I would like Rand Paul, if I'm more
- 22:33like Rand Paul or Mitch McConnell, he said, I tell
- 22:36people that I am going to be Daniel Cameron. I
- 22:40am not someone that I have that I have shown
- 22:43repeatedly that has was formed by Braith, formed by the constitutions,
- 22:50formed by values of Kentuckians, and that it is all
- 22:53that I ever want to lead me. I am my
- 22:58own man. I make my own decision, he continued. My
- 23:02identity is in Christ and that is the way I
- 23:05view myself as a man, a husband, a dad, and
- 23:09in the role that you will give me. If you
- 23:11will give me that opportunity. In the article itself, it
- 23:15shows a picture of the US candidate Daniel Cannon talking
- 23:20with local voters during a Can's Paint stop in Pikeville.
