October 1st
Surf rock, soul, blues-rock, alternative rock and funk come together in today’s episode of The Music Dial, with stories connected to October 1.
We return to The Beach Boys’ debut album Surfin’ Safari, remember Donny Hathaway and the final studio days of Janis Joplin, revisit U2’s The Unforgettable Fire, and look back at Prince entering a new era with Diamonds and Pearls and the New Power Generation.
One date, several generations, and music stretching from early-’60s California to soul, stadium rock and funk-pop.
