Latest / Foul Territory / Yankees “bag-gate" at Mets Camp was all the rage + New Nationals pitcher Miles Mikolas unfiltered on FT
Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Brent Rooker is very good on Twitter slash x. He's
- 0:07Speaker 1: at camp and he said a few reminders for everyone
- 0:10Speaker 1: as guys start reporting to camp. One, no one in
- 0:12Speaker 1: the locker room carries it all. If you show up
- 0:14Speaker 1: with your stuff in your old team's bag, cough cough.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I'm going to add this part, Luke Weaver moving over
- 0:19Speaker 1: from the Yankees to the met showing up at the
- 0:20Speaker 1: Yanks bag, which our show jokes about all the time.
- 0:22Speaker 1: And then it's funny how that played out. Number two,
- 0:26Speaker 1: I want to do both. Number two, it is pretty
- 0:29Speaker 1: much physically impossible to gain quote, fifteen to twenty pounds
- 0:33Speaker 1: of muscle, not weeight of muscle in four months of
- 0:37Speaker 1: off season training. And that is I will say I
- 0:40Speaker 1: can't be the expert on most things. I will say
- 0:43Speaker 1: that is essentially true. Fifteen to twenty pounds Todd Father
- 0:46Speaker 1: in four months easy, fifteen to twenty pounds every is
- 0:48Speaker 1: considered lean muscle near impossible without help, significant help, illegal help.
- 0:57Speaker 1: So anyway, what do you think of those two little
- 0:59Speaker 1: nuggets from Ruck?
- 1:02Speaker 2: That's great, fantastic.
- 1:04Speaker 3: I would have loved the game fifteen to twenty pounds
- 1:06Speaker 3: where there was more more mush than it was of gush.
- 1:10Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's a big moment because the only reason
- 1:16Speaker 3: it's a big problem not a problem. It's funny to
- 1:18Speaker 3: see him with the Yankees gear because he's if he
- 1:21Speaker 3: went from Yankees to Milwaukee. It's everybody he went to
- 1:24Speaker 3: the Mets marking the Yankee bag. That's why it's a
- 1:28Speaker 3: big thing. I think it's funny you laugh about it,
- 1:30Speaker 3: but people are like, oh man, he still misses the Yankees.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Now.
- 1:34Speaker 3: I just think that's the only big bag he had,
- 1:37Speaker 3: and those bags are very good of storing things before
- 1:40Speaker 3: you get the spring training. So yeah, in the Yankee
- 1:43Speaker 3: met world it's a big thing, but anywhere else it's.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Not that big.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Okay, Kratz looks like he's going to bring show and tell.
- 1:49Speaker 1: There's his Yankee bag. Before we get to Trevor May's
- 1:53Speaker 1: thoughts on this. He did this on May Day. There's
- 1:56Speaker 1: the Phillies bag. They are beautiful Krats, I mean not.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Some fans that care about this stuff are really perturbed.
- 2:04Speaker 1: There's another beautiful Yankee bag. They think that once you
- 2:08Speaker 1: join a different army, you should not be wearing your
- 2:12Speaker 1: ex girlfriend's stuff. Just using analogies, they're like, I see
- 2:16Speaker 1: your Brewers won. They're great, but krats My question to you,
- 2:19Speaker 1: fans want to know they're like number one players are rich,
- 2:22Speaker 1: many of them right, not the league? Mean, guys, we
- 2:24Speaker 1: can have that discussion. But Luke Weaver has money, right,
- 2:26Speaker 1: he could get a bag to bring a camp so
- 2:28Speaker 1: that it's not this number two. A team could send
- 2:31Speaker 1: them a bag in advance. That's like the two somewhat
- 2:35Speaker 1: okay arguments that a fan throws out there. Now, that's
- 2:38Speaker 1: if you care. Do I care about day one? That happening? No,
- 2:41Speaker 1: we talk about this all the time, but fans want
- 2:44Speaker 1: an answer to that. Why can't you just get rid
- 2:46Speaker 1: of the noise and bringing a bag from day one?
- 2:50Speaker 4: It's only noise because they're making it noise because Keith
- 2:55Speaker 4: went on you know is New York radio station and
- 2:58Speaker 4: made it noise. And then fans clap because they're jealous
- 3:01Speaker 4: of a different organization, all that stuff, like you have
- 3:05Speaker 4: your bag. Hey, I'm going to the field today, what
- 3:09Speaker 4: am I gonna take? I'm gonna take my Brewers bag.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Uh yeah, but you're playing for the Rays. Oh all right,
- 3:16Speaker 4: Well I'll just put my stuff in there and then
- 3:18Speaker 4: when I get to the field. They actually the equipment guy. Actually,
- 3:23Speaker 4: because I've just showed you all the bags that I had.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Those are the.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Teams that I ended seasons with, so that's why I
- 3:28Speaker 4: have them. You show up to the field, you have
- 3:31Speaker 4: a bat bag from the team, and you have an
- 3:34Speaker 4: equipment bag. Some teams even gave me a catcher's bag.
- 3:37Speaker 4: So I had three bags with the team's logos on it.
- 3:40Speaker 4: And you know what they do. They take those, they
- 3:43Speaker 4: give you a new one. They put your stuff in
- 3:45Speaker 4: the new Yankees bag, Brewers bag, Rai's bag, Philly's bag,
- 3:50Speaker 4: and then they send that bag back to the team
- 3:52Speaker 4: that you used to play for. That's it, like you're
- 3:55Speaker 4: actually helping the other teams out. Like Luke Weaver did
- 3:59Speaker 4: not take the Yankees bag back and then go out
- 4:02Speaker 4: to the gym the local Planet Fitness and go, yep,
- 4:06Speaker 4: just hanging out here with my Yankees bag even though
- 4:08Speaker 4: I'm even though I'm a met he had his stuff
- 4:11Speaker 4: and there's a good chance half his stuff was probably
- 4:13Speaker 4: in his Yankees bag from the season prior and it
- 4:16Speaker 4: didn't get taken out. That's what I did. Some years.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Yea all said, Okay, I usually I didn't send him
- 4:26Speaker 3: usually kept them in the back there and then probably
- 4:29Speaker 3: I would fill up this stuff I didn't need from
- 4:31Speaker 3: spring training and ship that bag back home or whatever
- 4:34Speaker 3: it is.
- 4:34Speaker 1: So there you go. We're gonna get the full scope here. Okay,
- 4:39Speaker 1: So you guys are position players. Trevor May explained this
- 4:44Speaker 1: on May Day. So we're gonna run that, and then
- 4:46Speaker 1: right off that, Miles Micheliss will be ready and we'll
- 4:48Speaker 1: ask him the same question because he's going from the
- 4:52Speaker 1: Cardinals to the Nationals this year. Here we go, this
- 4:54Speaker 1: is the this is the full experience.
- 4:56Speaker 5: On FT, it was reported that new Mets reliever Luke Weaver,
- 5:02Speaker 5: spent the last three season with the Yankees, arrived to
- 5:06Speaker 5: Port Saint Lucy with his old Yankees bag. I need
- 5:12Speaker 5: a minute, Just give me one minute. How could you loke?
- 5:23Speaker 1: Sorry about that.
- 5:27Speaker 5: I'm okay, I'm okay, I can do this. The move
- 5:29Speaker 5: that seemed to upset some fans and media personality, including
- 5:32Speaker 5: popular and YC radio host Keith Peerson and Michaelmichael Kay.
- 5:37Speaker 5: Weaver addressed the incident the New York Post John Hayman
- 5:40Speaker 5: to The New York Post John Hayman and Joel Sherman
- 5:42Speaker 5: on their show on the Show podcast. All right, here's
- 5:46Speaker 5: the quote from Luke Weaver. I thought it was a
- 5:50Speaker 5: bit silly personally. I understand why people are I wouldn't
- 5:54Speaker 5: say an uproar, but why they're talking about it. I
- 5:56Speaker 5: get it to your point. It's very common to bring
- 5:59Speaker 5: your old bag your new team. They don't like, they
- 6:01Speaker 5: don't like first class airmail a new bag. So I
- 6:04Speaker 5: didn't get a new bag from the Mets, like a
- 6:06Speaker 5: double bag. Just personally don't have like besides grocery bags
- 6:08Speaker 5: or something. I just don't have anything to put my
- 6:10Speaker 5: stuff in. Yeah, it's completely normal. That is exactly what
- 6:17Speaker 5: everyone does. You get there the first day with all
- 6:19Speaker 5: your crap in your bag, but you didn't chance and
- 6:21Speaker 5: transfer to another bag, and then you get a new
- 6:23Speaker 5: bag immediately. Don't worry. Kk's got it, dude, Kevin Kiers,
- 6:28Speaker 5: He's got him hooked up with the bag immediately. Holy crap,
- 6:31Speaker 5: Who cares?
- 6:34Speaker 1: Miles Michaels, new to the Washington Nationalists joining us right now.
- 6:38Speaker 1: The FT network is all over this bag gate story.
- 6:40Speaker 1: We'll get into plenty more with Miles, but for a
- 6:43Speaker 1: live report from a current player, Miles, your thoughts on
- 6:46Speaker 1: this controversy involving Luke Weaver's bag going from a Yankees
- 6:53Speaker 1: camp now to Mets camp this year before he got
- 6:55Speaker 1: a new one in one day.
- 6:58Speaker 6: My only thing would be if he drove to camp,
- 7:02Speaker 6: he could have put his stuff, like in any other
- 7:05Speaker 6: bag that he might have had laying around. But if
- 7:08Speaker 6: he flew, you need a nice big bag that you're
- 7:11Speaker 6: flying and you're shipping. And I played with Weave, you know,
- 7:15Speaker 6: in Saint Louis for a little bit, and I feel
- 7:18Speaker 6: like he's a he's a pretty simple, really well meaning guy,
- 7:22Speaker 6: and he's not gonna go out and like spend money
- 7:25Speaker 6: on a on a big bag just to travel with.
- 7:27Speaker 6: When he has a perfectly good Yankees bag, he's gonna
- 7:30Speaker 6: use that, and then he probably ditched it or shipped
- 7:32Speaker 6: home and now he's gonna use his Mets stuff.
- 7:36Speaker 4: Wait, Miles, are you two pieces here? Did you just
- 7:39Speaker 4: call Luke Waiver cheap? And did you bring your Saint
- 7:43Speaker 4: Louis bag to natscamp?
- 7:46Speaker 1: No?
- 7:46Speaker 6: I did not call him cheap. He's resourceful. I would
- 7:49Speaker 6: do the same thing. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna
- 7:51Speaker 6: go out and you know, you've got all these bags
- 7:54Speaker 6: laying around you've got these big baseball bags laying around.
- 7:57Speaker 6: I've got a Rangers one, a Cardinals one. I've got
- 7:59Speaker 6: like a big token Giants bag laying around. If I
- 8:02Speaker 6: need a big bag for something, I'm gonna grab one
- 8:05Speaker 6: of those old probably my most recent, you know, nicest,
- 8:08Speaker 6: good quality baseball bag to transport some stuff. That being said,
- 8:14Speaker 6: I was only making a short drive to camp. I
- 8:16Speaker 6: threw some cleats and turfs in a in a non
- 8:19Speaker 6: team related bag and just brought them over in my car,
- 8:24Speaker 6: so I didn't I didn't have to travel far, so
- 8:27Speaker 6: I I kind of had that luxury that he may
- 8:29Speaker 6: have not had.
- 8:31Speaker 2: That's that's great, that's great. I'd like to move on
- 8:33Speaker 2: from this now.
- 8:34Speaker 3: But round your background right now is incredible.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Is your phone on the ground or are you are?
- 8:43Speaker 6: You know I'm sitting out. I'm sitting out by my house, Scott.
- 8:50Speaker 6: You guys like this view better?
- 8:52Speaker 5: Wow.
- 8:53Speaker 6: I'm just out of my house in Jupiter and my
- 8:55Speaker 6: kids are inside finished up some school work because we
- 8:57Speaker 6: home school. I didn't want to distract them with all the.
- 9:01Speaker 1: All the no, you're good, you're good. And I don't
- 9:04Speaker 1: want you to hold the phone either, Miles, because then
- 9:07Speaker 1: everyone's going to get motion sick. You're good.
- 9:09Speaker 2: I love it.
- 9:10Speaker 3: I love the view. You could put it, but you
- 9:12Speaker 3: could put it back. I would just mesmerized by this.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Miles reporting from the from the sky. The beautiful, beautiful
- 9:18Speaker 1: weather we are experiencing in Florida this week, seventy five
- 9:21Speaker 1: and sunny every day. Don't worry about it. But Todd,
- 9:25Speaker 1: did you have one or you want to? I do
- 9:26Speaker 1: want to get the little Nationals load down here. Okay,
- 9:29Speaker 1: So Miles, Uh, congrats on the deal with the Nats. Uh.
- 9:33Speaker 1: We're excited to see you bring your talents and also
- 9:36Speaker 1: your experience to a very young team. So can you
- 9:38Speaker 1: tell us how it all went down? How was the
- 9:40Speaker 1: off season? Uh?
- 9:41Speaker 6: You know, it was a pretty slow market for you know,
- 9:44Speaker 6: for a lot of pitchers. But we had been you know,
- 9:46Speaker 6: talking to the Nats for most of the time. I
- 9:47Speaker 6: mean it's a team, you know, coming on my list,
- 9:51Speaker 6: you know, on my radar. I know there's you know,
- 9:54Speaker 6: there's some opportunity there with their with their young players
- 9:56Speaker 6: and you know veteran guys. Sometimes teams look for, you know,
- 10:00Speaker 6: someone on the older end of the spectrum to to
- 10:04Speaker 6: share some of their experience and you know when I
- 10:06Speaker 6: found out what they were what they were doing in
- 10:09Speaker 6: Washington with the you know, they've got a new front
- 10:11Speaker 6: office and they've got this new coaching staff and it's
- 10:14Speaker 6: kind of like everyone's starting from scratch a little bit.
- 10:16Speaker 6: So I feel good about getting in there, you know,
- 10:19Speaker 6: kind of on their ground floor.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Uh.
- 10:21Speaker 6: You know, they talked to me a lot about you know,
- 10:23Speaker 6: wanting to have this really good clubhouse culture and you know,
- 10:27Speaker 6: keep things like moving forward, and you know, they're going
- 10:29Speaker 6: to be doing a lot of great stuff with their
- 10:31Speaker 6: their player development, and I thought it'd be fun too
- 10:33Speaker 6: to be a part of that. And you know, I'm
- 10:35Speaker 6: not gonna lie. Being being home for spring training again
- 10:39Speaker 6: is you know, always a plus. I get to enjoy
- 10:41Speaker 6: this beautiful weather hang out of my my house that
- 10:44Speaker 6: we just moved into this last offseason.
- 10:46Speaker 7: So it's a it's a good fit all around.
- 10:50Speaker 4: Yeah, A big house that you just moved into this offseason.
- 10:52Speaker 4: Good for you. Anytime you can be home. It makes
- 10:55Speaker 4: other spring trainings that much worse. So good luck enjoying
- 11:00Speaker 4: your time at home, your afternoon naps after the games
- 11:03Speaker 4: are over. But you said, most of the time you're
- 11:06Speaker 4: talking to the nats most of the time. What do
- 11:09Speaker 4: you feel or what held up the fact that you
- 11:12Speaker 4: didn't sign until now? Was it one of those things
- 11:14Speaker 4: where they contacted you or like, hey, we want to
- 11:17Speaker 4: make you an offer, but we're not going to tell
- 11:19Speaker 4: you what the offer is until we see what other
- 11:22Speaker 4: guys make and what other teams offer you contracts.
- 11:26Speaker 6: Well, I mean teams have to do their due diligence, right,
- 11:28Speaker 6: they have to explore their options. They wanted to, you know,
- 11:31Speaker 6: I had a nice zoom call with them. I know
- 11:33Speaker 6: they want a zoom call with some guys. Get a
- 11:35Speaker 6: feel for everyone. They were. I feel like they were
- 11:38Speaker 6: being a little particular in who they bring in, you know,
- 11:42Speaker 6: from a veterans standpoint, because they want someone that's you know,
- 11:45Speaker 6: going to be maybe you know, while spoken is going
- 11:48Speaker 6: to be good with the young guys, gonna you know,
- 11:50Speaker 6: I think I can do a good job. I'm pretty
- 11:52Speaker 6: good with my work in the way room, the training room.
- 11:55Speaker 6: I'm always busy, so you know, hopefully I can you know,
- 11:57Speaker 6: lead by example and you know, just be a part
- 12:00Speaker 6: of a part of a fun group. So maybe they
- 12:03Speaker 6: were just narrowing that down. I know they made some trades.
- 12:06Speaker 6: Maybe they're waiting to see if they're going to trade.
- 12:08Speaker 6: Some guys are not to see if that spot would
- 12:09Speaker 6: would would open up, And everything just kind of came
- 12:13Speaker 6: together at the end, you know, by the skin of
- 12:15Speaker 6: my teeth, getting into spring training, getting into spring training
- 12:18Speaker 6: right on time.
- 12:19Speaker 4: Did you talk to any other teams? Was there any
- 12:21Speaker 4: other teams as it kind of really ramped up with
- 12:24Speaker 4: the Nets?
- 12:26Speaker 6: I believe there were, Yeah, there were, there were a
- 12:29Speaker 6: few teams, you know, some teams out in Arizona, you know, talking.
- 12:34Speaker 6: But you know, when you started thinking about the deals
- 12:35Speaker 6: and you know, what's the best fit, it's not always about,
- 12:39Speaker 6: you know, necessarily, you know, the the dollar amounts or
- 12:43Speaker 6: things like that. Not to say I had like giant
- 12:45Speaker 6: offers like poorn In you know, I not really that situation.
- 12:48Speaker 6: But when you think about the overall scenario of what
- 12:52Speaker 6: teams and you know, what what kind of team I
- 12:54Speaker 6: could be a part of, and where they're going with that,
- 12:56Speaker 6: and where I am in my career and what I
- 12:58Speaker 6: have to offer, you know, specific teams in general, and
- 13:01Speaker 6: what my role is going to be. And you know,
- 13:03Speaker 6: I slept the Nats ended up being a team that
- 13:05Speaker 6: was a better fit than most.
- 13:08Speaker 4: I mean, I wish you could just play that on
- 13:10Speaker 4: repeat because all the times people are like, well, why
- 13:12Speaker 4: would you sign there, what's the deal with that? What's
- 13:14Speaker 4: the you know what, You're a human like this guy
- 13:18Speaker 4: right over here, he's human. He's a human person with
- 13:21Speaker 4: a family. So good for you for saying that, and
- 13:24Speaker 4: good for you for making every one of your freaking starts.
- 13:28Speaker 4: One of the things I was thinking about when I'm
- 13:29Speaker 4: looking at your at your stat page is people are
- 13:33Speaker 4: gonna say, oh, you know, strikeout racos down, this goes down.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Baseball is always about all the negative, negative, negative.
- 13:39Speaker 6: Yeah, you make every one of your starts?
- 13:42Speaker 1: What does that mean to you?
- 13:44Speaker 4: And what does that mean to the team that you're
- 13:48Speaker 4: going to, because it is a rare, rare thing. Even
- 13:51Speaker 4: on the best teams, they're like, we're totally fine if
- 13:54Speaker 4: one of our best pictures only gets twenty five starts,
- 13:56Speaker 4: because that's not a big deal for us.
- 14:00Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, it speaks to a lot. Is like
- 14:03Speaker 6: just what I put into my my body and my
- 14:05Speaker 6: overall routine. You know, I try to eat healthy when
- 14:08Speaker 6: I can. You know, I like to exercise, I like
- 14:11Speaker 6: to be outside. I'm I'm power shagging. I'm in the
- 14:14Speaker 6: training room. I have a good routine. The training staff
- 14:17Speaker 6: in Saint Louis was great, and the experience I've had
- 14:20Speaker 6: so far in Washington's been great as well. But you
- 14:24Speaker 6: have to have a little bit of discipline to make
- 14:27Speaker 6: to make all those starts and to stay healthy. And
- 14:29Speaker 6: you know, I know there's a lot of stats you
- 14:32Speaker 6: know that don't shine the best lot on me, other
- 14:34Speaker 6: than you know, durability, which is one of the five abilities,
- 14:39Speaker 6: durability availability.
- 14:41Speaker 7: But there's when I look, they.
- 14:43Speaker 6: Hitted me a sheet of paper with with my my
- 14:46Speaker 6: numbers and some percentages, and while some of them aren't encouraging,
- 14:49Speaker 6: there's a lot of good ones there. I throw a
- 14:51Speaker 6: lot of strikes. I attack it as really well, and
- 14:54Speaker 6: I know that with with some you know, maybe a
- 14:57Speaker 6: little more deeper dive into the metrics, or you know
- 15:00Speaker 6: a little bit of more work with with some of
- 15:02Speaker 6: their pitching guys over there who I've talked to that
- 15:04Speaker 6: I really like. So I think there is a lot
- 15:06Speaker 6: of room for improvement there. You know, different approach with
- 15:09Speaker 6: two strikes, getting outside the zone, you know, setting up
- 15:12Speaker 6: pitches that I can get out of the zone a
- 15:14Speaker 6: little bit better, you know, maybe some sequencing changes, because
- 15:18Speaker 6: one thing I do do is I'm healthy and I
- 15:20Speaker 6: throw strikes and I'm going to attack hitters, but then
- 15:23Speaker 6: getting them to chase and you know, trying to use
- 15:26Speaker 6: this new zone the way they're going to have it.
- 15:29Speaker 7: I think it's fun. I think it's exciting. It's going
- 15:32Speaker 7: to be a fun year.
- 15:34Speaker 3: We know about Japan, how you loved it over there,
- 15:36Speaker 3: and they consider you one of their favorites of what
- 15:39Speaker 3: you did and how good you were.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Did any NPP team try and throw the bag at
- 15:43Speaker 2: you and maybe say, hey, dog, we want you back
- 15:45Speaker 2: coming through. Have you considered that?
- 15:47Speaker 7: No, No, I've definitely considered it. But last year I
- 15:52Speaker 7: got to my nine years.
- 15:53Speaker 6: So this year, if I can remain healthy and remain
- 15:56Speaker 6: effective and you know, being the major leagues the whole year,
- 15:58Speaker 6: that's my ten years. That's something I've I really want
- 16:01Speaker 6: to get to. I really want to take pride in that.
- 16:02Speaker 6: I know that's a you know, that's a mile so
- 16:04Speaker 6: and that a lot of guys are looking for, you know.
- 16:08Speaker 6: And then after that, I'd love to have another really
- 16:11Speaker 6: good year. I think I've got some more good baseball
- 16:13Speaker 6: in me. I'd love to play a couple more years
- 16:15Speaker 6: here in the States, but I would love a little
- 16:17Speaker 6: a little sign ar tour they called a sin Ar tour,
- 16:20Speaker 6: you go over to Japan for for one last hurrah.
- 16:23Speaker 6: I did recently hear they were getting rid of pictures
- 16:25Speaker 6: hitting over there, which was one reason I kind of
- 16:28Speaker 6: wanted to go back because I know that I think
- 16:30Speaker 6: this is their last year hitting. Had I known that, maybe,
- 16:35Speaker 6: but the baseball over there was was so wonderful, and
- 16:39Speaker 6: you know, their fans were so great over there, and
- 16:41Speaker 6: Japan is such a wonderful, beautiful place, whether it's playing
- 16:45Speaker 6: baseball or just on a nice long vacation. It's definitely
- 16:47Speaker 6: something I want to do all my kids to experience.
- 16:52Speaker 4: Well, that's a lot farther away from home. Just just
- 16:55Speaker 4: so you know, I just want to make sure you
- 16:56Speaker 4: know that on Google Maps, so that you know, oh,
- 17:00Speaker 4: but yes, it'll be an amazing opportunity for your kids
- 17:02Speaker 4: will be older, your kids, I don't even know if
- 17:04Speaker 4: your kids we were with you when you were over
- 17:06Speaker 4: there or not.
- 17:07Speaker 6: We had we had just had our first, our oldest
- 17:10Speaker 6: my daughter was born my last year there.
- 17:12Speaker 4: So okay, yeah, all right, so the team you just
- 17:16Speaker 4: came from the Cardinals. You were kind of in the
- 17:18Speaker 4: middle of the tear down, and now they really tore
- 17:20Speaker 4: it down. Yeah, what are your opinions of it and
- 17:24Speaker 4: what you've seen because you were there when they were
- 17:27Speaker 4: having success and the last few years it hasn't gone
- 17:31Speaker 4: well and now it's a shell of the team that
- 17:34Speaker 4: it used that you played with.
- 17:37Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, you know the Cardinals, you know, and
- 17:39Speaker 6: I know they were kind of in between the teardown
- 17:41Speaker 6: and the rebuil, but you know, sometimes you have to
- 17:44Speaker 6: you have to wipe the board clean before you can,
- 17:46Speaker 6: you know, you have to grab a new sheet of
- 17:49Speaker 6: paper before you can you know, paint that next masterpiece.
- 17:52Speaker 6: And you know, they got a new front office and
- 17:55Speaker 6: they're going forward with that, and I'm sure you know,
- 17:57Speaker 6: that's a really good, smart group of guys there. Know
- 18:00Speaker 6: they're gonna make the moves that obviously you know that
- 18:02Speaker 6: that they think are best. And it's definitely different. You know,
- 18:06Speaker 6: you had a team that was loaded with veterans my
- 18:08Speaker 6: first couple of years there, and then you know, I
- 18:10Speaker 6: was a little bit younger, but I think anytime you
- 18:13Speaker 6: get caught in between, right, like if you're going to
- 18:15Speaker 6: steal a bag and you're in between whether you're gonna
- 18:17Speaker 6: go or not. You need to thrown out every time.
- 18:20Speaker 6: So being able to what they you know, accomplish what
- 18:23Speaker 6: they want to do, and you know, get rid of
- 18:25Speaker 6: those contracts and get rid of some of those older
- 18:26Speaker 6: guys and bring in some some younger, fresher faces, and
- 18:29Speaker 6: they're gonna, you know, dip into that minor league system
- 18:32Speaker 6: that they've been working on the last couple of years.
- 18:35Speaker 6: You got to develop those guys, you know, I mean
- 18:37Speaker 6: at some point you have to roll over. I mean,
- 18:39Speaker 6: you had guys there for you know, ten, fifteen, twenty
- 18:42Speaker 6: years that have been part of that system, and you know,
- 18:46Speaker 6: understandably they want to go in in a different direction
- 18:49Speaker 6: because we you know, hadn't played good. We caught some
- 18:51Speaker 6: bad breaks the last couple of seasons. You know, we'd
- 18:54Speaker 6: lost some guys, guys had some down years. You know,
- 18:57Speaker 6: I'm gonna regret forever, uh not pitching better or you know,
- 19:00Speaker 6: my last couple of years in the Carlos uniform.
- 19:04Speaker 7: But that's the way baseball is. You know, you have
- 19:06Speaker 7: you have good years, you have bad years.
- 19:07Speaker 6: You bounce back, you have you know, comeback seasons and
- 19:11Speaker 6: things like that, and you know, wish all the best
- 19:14Speaker 6: for all my buddies over there on the team.
- 19:16Speaker 7: You know, I hope they do great, except for the
- 19:17Speaker 7: games that that I'm you know that that we're playing.
- 19:22Speaker 4: Did you see the new rule that they just came
- 19:24Speaker 4: out with or just officially came out with yesterday about
- 19:27Speaker 4: the first and third base coaches. Oh no, what's that
- 19:32Speaker 4: They have to stay in the box, which I'm pretty
- 19:35Speaker 4: sure you had mentioned. Hey, you know what, maybe we
- 19:38Speaker 4: need to keep these guys in there allotted box. But
- 19:41Speaker 4: it's going to me it's not a rule. It was
- 19:44Speaker 4: always a rule, it was just never enforced. How do
- 19:47Speaker 4: you feel about the fact that they said now they're
- 19:49Speaker 4: going to enforce it, except they can move closer to
- 19:53Speaker 4: their dugout if a pool side hitter is up for
- 19:56Speaker 4: safety purposes.
- 19:58Speaker 6: Has had a couple of really good jokes fly through
- 20:00Speaker 6: my head. I'm gonna hold back on those for now,
- 20:03Speaker 6: but I think it's good. I mean, if you know,
- 20:06Speaker 6: if you've got big pull side here and you want
- 20:07Speaker 6: to get out of the way, you know they're wearing
- 20:09Speaker 6: helmets now, you know there is definitely some safety concerned there.
- 20:13Speaker 6: You know, my issue was with you know, I was
- 20:16Speaker 6: tipping pitches. I was doing almost everything short of just
- 20:19Speaker 6: showing my glove to the guy. And that's on me,
- 20:23Speaker 6: you know, some of that's on me. It's not all that.
- 20:25Speaker 6: But you know how far back you're gonna go to
- 20:27Speaker 6: look to to sneak a peek at something? Right, like
- 20:30Speaker 6: you're gonna sneak a peak you know, if you're sitting
- 20:32Speaker 6: in class and the kid next to you is hiding
- 20:34Speaker 6: his test, if you're really looking, you know, are you cheating?
- 20:37Speaker 6: If he's just showing it to you, you know, just
- 20:41Speaker 6: giving you the answers. I was just giving him the
- 20:43Speaker 6: answers for for a couple of you know, goes there.
- 20:48Speaker 6: But I think it's good, you know. I mean, you
- 20:49Speaker 6: have these rules too, you know, if you're gonna have
- 20:52Speaker 6: these rules, enforce them, we'll just take the box away
- 20:55Speaker 6: right like it's it's there, you might as well use it.
- 21:00Speaker 4: Was it cheating? Was it cheating if let's say let's
- 21:03Speaker 4: say the guy was standing one foot in the box
- 21:06Speaker 4: and he's going, like he said, he's like, oh, he's
- 21:08Speaker 4: craning to get his head over there to see, or
- 21:11Speaker 4: if he's just is it cheating?
- 21:14Speaker 6: If no, if you're by the cut of the outfield grass,
- 21:21Speaker 6: which I know some teams will get there or they'll
- 21:23Speaker 6: get pretty close to there. But if you're on the
- 21:26Speaker 6: other side of first base and then getting close towards
- 21:29Speaker 6: the cut of the outfield grass, you know, and you're
- 21:34Speaker 6: if you're moving deliberately to see something that's not available
- 21:38Speaker 6: from a previous line of sight, and then you're signaling it.
- 21:41Speaker 6: I mean, that's not far from banging on a trash can,
- 21:44Speaker 6: right mm hmm.
- 21:46Speaker 4: And And for everybody who Miles doesn't need to say it.
- 21:49Speaker 4: We have we have humid we have tracking devices on
- 21:53Speaker 4: the field. So if you just look it up, I
- 21:55Speaker 4: think it's baseball savant. You can see where the first
- 21:58Speaker 4: and third base coaches are for each team and where
- 22:01Speaker 4: they were on place. It's just like it's just a dot.
- 22:04Speaker 4: It's it's a dot, just like the third basement. People
- 22:07Speaker 4: can look it up themselves.
- 22:09Speaker 6: Do they have do they have the metrics for that?
- 22:11Speaker 6: Like does does the positioning of the first base and
- 22:15Speaker 6: third base coach correlate to higher batting averages? That would
- 22:17Speaker 6: be really interesting, a really interesting stat Do you can say, like, oh,
- 22:24Speaker 6: the five best hitting teams they had, you know, their
- 22:27Speaker 6: coach was the furthest the details of the line. I
- 22:33Speaker 6: wonder maybe they'll start recruiting really tall now that you
- 22:36Speaker 6: can't go that way. They're gonna recruit the tallest first
- 22:40Speaker 6: and third base coaches so they can try to look
- 22:43Speaker 6: down into your mint.
- 22:44Speaker 1: I love that.
- 22:45Speaker 4: I love that, the whole Bowl family, all the balls.
- 22:50Speaker 6: Coach, doll mean coaching third base, just looking in that mint,
- 22:55Speaker 6: just all over it.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Yeah, we're gonna have a five, right, So if you're
- 23:01Speaker 1: over six five, you can't be a base coach. If
- 23:02Speaker 1: you're under, you get a little stool or you can
- 23:05Speaker 1: wear a little heel so that it's equal. Okay, we
- 23:08Speaker 1: want everything to be equal eventually, same stats, same tech,
- 23:12Speaker 1: same payroll for everyone. Everything's gonna be equal one day.
- 23:15Speaker 1: That makes a lot of sense. I'm kidding them.
- 23:16Speaker 6: No, no, you can't have that.
- 23:18Speaker 1: No, no, exactly. Well you thought you would like that.
- 23:24Speaker 6: One said. You gotta have a storyline. You gotta have
- 23:28Speaker 6: your your your David and Goliath. You're you're good versus evil,
- 23:32Speaker 6: your you know, your big teams versus small teams, your you.
- 23:36Speaker 7: Know, stacked farm system, young guy, old vets. You gotta
- 23:39Speaker 7: have all that.
- 23:39Speaker 6: It's makes for more story. It's more fun that way.
- 23:43Speaker 1: It's it's the spice of life. I'm with you and
- 23:46Speaker 1: Twitter to the game. Yeah, You're Goliath. Is gonna be
- 23:49Speaker 1: when Bayana from the NBA over at third base is
- 23:51Speaker 1: the new third base coach for whatever team is going
- 23:54Speaker 1: to pay him in the off season to steal some pitch.
- 23:55Speaker 6: I mean, yeah, those guys aren't doing much in the summer, right,
- 23:58Speaker 6: get a tan baseball.
- 24:01Speaker 1: I'm in, I'm in. I love it. Dude, You're the best.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Thank you so much for catching up with us. Really
- 24:07Speaker 1: appreciate the time. Congrats on the deal, and we will
- 24:09Speaker 1: see you in camp. You'll run into Pierzanski in a
- 24:12Speaker 1: few weeks over at camp when we make the stop
- 24:14Speaker 1: on the tour, all right.
- 24:15Speaker 7: Always looking forward to seeing him. Thanks for having me on.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, Next up, an interesting one from Leo. I
- 24:30Speaker 1: like these specials, Oh, Kratz. We had so much fun
- 24:32Speaker 1: with this a couple of years ago. Run it back.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Fewest regular season wins minus four hundred for the Rockies,
- 24:41Speaker 1: and then if you want to play the rest of
- 24:43Speaker 1: the field, we'll give you a few names to consider.
- 24:45Speaker 1: White Sox plus seven hundred, Nationals plus eight hundred Cardinals
- 24:50Speaker 1: and Angels plus sixteen hundred, Marlins and Twins plus thirty
- 24:54Speaker 1: five hundred. Ooh, I see something on the board that's
- 24:57Speaker 1: very enticing, But I also just want a blanket state
- 25:00Speaker 1: in this Todd Father, remember when we talked to Ken
- 25:03Speaker 1: earlier in the show about how I think that tanking
- 25:06Speaker 1: has at least been helped a little bit by the
- 25:08Speaker 1: last CBA. When you look at this board, you're like,
- 25:11Speaker 1: I don't know, there's not that many terrible teams in
- 25:15Speaker 1: baseball right now.
- 25:17Speaker 3: No, I mean, Colorado is definitely a top pick that
- 25:23Speaker 3: you really have to consider.
- 25:24Speaker 2: They're the white size man plus seven hundred for the
- 25:26Speaker 2: White Sox. That's interesting.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Man.
- 25:30Speaker 3: My one team that I mentioned and we talked about earlier, Dude,
- 25:32Speaker 3: the Marlins could could could be that worst team too
- 25:36Speaker 3: as well with the teams they have to play. So
- 25:38Speaker 3: I would I would throw a little bit on the
- 25:40Speaker 3: Marlins just just to do it. I mean, a plus
- 25:43Speaker 3: thirty five hundred, you can't go wrong with that. So
- 25:46Speaker 3: I don't see the Nationals being that team. I don't see.
- 25:51Speaker 3: I don't see Angels. They'll find some way. Saint Louis, we.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Talked about a little bit, yeah, I would say, I
- 25:57Speaker 2: would say.
- 25:59Speaker 3: I put a little on Miami and you know, sorry, yeah,
- 26:04Speaker 3: I apologize, but it's a tough bet.
- 26:06Speaker 2: You got to pick one.
- 26:08Speaker 1: I know what you're saying. I mean, hey, when you
- 26:09Speaker 1: get odds like that, it's the odds that it's enticing. Wait,
- 26:13Speaker 1: but hold up. I'm looking right next to them, and
- 26:16Speaker 1: I'm like, could Minnesota be that team at thirty one
- 26:20Speaker 1: or thirty five to one odds where it gets bad
- 26:22Speaker 1: and then it gets really bad when they start trading
- 26:25Speaker 1: off some of the bigger names at the trade deadline.
- 26:27Speaker 1: I don't know. Let's see Kratz, well, well, get yeah,
- 26:30Speaker 1: I was gonna Saykratz, let's get his pick, but also
- 26:32Speaker 1: we'll see if he likes your Miami pick or my
- 26:34Speaker 1: my Minnesota pick.
- 26:36Speaker 4: I actually don't like the Miami pick, but I know
- 26:39Speaker 4: why you're going after the thirty five hundred. I don't
- 26:42Speaker 4: like the Minnesota pick because I think Minnesota. Yeah, did
- 26:47Speaker 4: they get rid of Byron Buxton? Maybe, like, does Joe
- 26:51Speaker 4: Ryan go somewhere?
- 26:52Speaker 6: Sure?
- 26:52Speaker 4: I get that. Does it get awful? I don't know
- 26:56Speaker 4: if it gets awful to me. A place that could
- 26:58Speaker 4: get awful is Saint Louis and at sixteen hundred, I
- 27:04Speaker 4: love that number. Now. Obviously, the lingering effect here is
- 27:08Speaker 4: the Rockies, like the Rockies are gonna be the worst team.
- 27:12Speaker 4: If I'm going somewhere where it's gonna be bad, where
- 27:15Speaker 4: I'm gonna get the worst, and I get some good
- 27:17Speaker 4: numbers at plus sixteen hundred, I feel like I have to.
- 27:20Speaker 4: I had to pick Saint Louis.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Okay, I Todd Father since he said he didn't like
- 27:25Speaker 1: either of our suggestions, I really don't like his. I'm
- 27:29Speaker 1: not with you on that one. I do not see
- 27:31Speaker 1: Saint Louis with the worst record in all of baseball.
- 27:34Speaker 4: They got rid of Funny Gray. Yes, they don't have
- 27:37Speaker 4: Miles Michaelis, who made thirty one starts. They need to
- 27:39Speaker 4: our thirty two starts. You need to find someone else.
- 27:42Speaker 4: Wilson Catreras has gone. I get it. You know, Ernato
- 27:46Speaker 4: wasn't that great. You lost your one all star Brendan Donovan.
- 27:50Speaker 4: You still have Mason Wynn. I get that. Large Newt
- 27:52Speaker 4: Bar's got a lot going on, so hey, you know what,
- 27:55Speaker 4: that's cool? Alex Burlow.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Lineup's not bad. Who the lineup's not bad? Lars Newbar
- 28:02Speaker 1: I'm just giving you the fan grafts against Righty's Von Herrera,
- 28:06Speaker 1: uh Alec Burlason, Nolan Gorman, Mason Win, JJ Weatherholt. They
- 28:10Speaker 1: think he'll break camp, Jordan Walker, Pedro Pajes, Victor Scott, Like, yeah,
- 28:15Speaker 1: a lot of those guys haven't done a ton yet,
- 28:17Speaker 1: but I think there's enough potential there where it's going
- 28:20Speaker 1: to be like f it mode. You know, we know
- 28:23Speaker 1: we're bad. Let's have fun and they'll shock I don't
- 28:25Speaker 1: want to say shocked the world. But they weren't as
- 28:27Speaker 1: bad as people think. Yeah, but I just don't think
- 28:30Speaker 1: they're a terrible fifth place team.
- 28:32Speaker 4: So okay, that's fair.
- 28:34Speaker 3: Yeah, with how the with how the percentages are and
- 28:38Speaker 3: the juice, you could take a couple of teams.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Just put a little, yeah, little little something on it. Yeah,
- 28:43Speaker 2: why not.
- 28:44Speaker 4: It's it's the Rockies though. I mean, the Rockies got
- 28:47Speaker 4: to play in the National League East. They gotta play
- 28:49Speaker 4: in the National League. They gotta play in nationally Sorry
- 28:51Speaker 4: minus four hundred, I'm not touching that.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Nationally West. Yeah, Nation West, he said, he's yeah, I'm
- 29:01Speaker 1: just that guy. I just I jumped the trolls. UH
