- 0:25Yeah, let's do it. Oh, there is Chris Zach, I'm vigil.
- 0:30This is Andrew and on the other line is Jim and we we are
- 0:35the Ghosts Inside. We just put out a record. You did indeed,
- 0:39guys, thanks for joining us today. Thanks for yeah, thanks for having
- 0:43us man. Bye, absolute pleasure. So I think it's today there the
- 0:46ghost Inside drop your sixth studio album searching for Solis today. So how does
- 0:52it feel to have it finally out there in the world for people to digest?
- 0:56It's very exciting, man. We've been sitting on it for a while,
- 0:59you know. We been working on these songs for for how long now,
- 1:03it's been a while. Yeah. We started, Yeah, about a
- 1:06year and a half. Yeah, so weber twenty twenty two. Yeah,
- 1:07so we've been sinning on for a while. So it's been nice to see
- 1:11it come to fruition and see it out in the world and see people's reactions
- 1:15and stuff. So it's it's exciting, Like, can you dog into it
- 1:19a bit more from a musical point of view for us, Collis and tell
- 1:22us what you've gone for? Yeah, I think you know, Andrew can
- 1:27speak to quite a bit to this too. But you know, we feel
- 1:32like with self Titled, we really stuck with like the ghost in side formula.
- 1:36It didn't take any chances there. That record was very clear what the
- 1:40objective was, kind of like long before we went into it. It was
- 1:42gonna be the band's comeback record. Lyrical themes were all there right from the
- 1:48beginning. And this time I think we just felt a lot more freedom.
- 1:51And I'll let Andrew talk about that. Yeah, we we just didn't want
- 1:57to set any limitations on ourselves for this one. Wanted to you know,
- 2:01sometimes the band life can get it can weigh on you a little bit,
- 2:07and at times, you know, we we could be afraid to make certain
- 2:12decisions here or there with our music. But we went into this one having
- 2:15a clean slate and just doing whatever we thought, we liked, whatever we
- 2:19wanted to do. We tried anything and everything, and it was awesome to
- 2:23work with so many different co writers and producers and and they sort of unlocked
- 2:29like some things we didn't realize we had in us as a band, and
- 2:31it was cool to see the outcome. Yeah cool, You've released the singles
- 2:36Washed It Away, Death, Grip, Earn It, and Split, So
- 2:38just say all someone's heard of the ghost inside of those songs on the radio
- 2:43or something like are they a good sonic representation or what do you expect from
- 2:46the whole band, a whole album. As far as the album, yeah,
- 2:51it's really it's it's a it's a very push and pull record. It's
- 2:57a very back and forth, up and down record, and it's all with
- 3:00intention. And all the singles that have come out have been kind of contrasting,
- 3:05like they've been one extreme or the other, like they've been kind of
- 3:08pulling in different directions, and that's that's kind of how the vibe of the
- 3:12record is because in life, there's no like direct linear path to anything.
- 3:17Anything you you want, anything you do, is always going to have peaks
- 3:22and valleys. You know, it's always gonna be ups and downs. And
- 3:24we wanted to portray that in the in the songwriting process and in the record
- 3:29as a full listen through like it. You know it starts, it starts
- 3:32with just aggressive scream and it ends with a soft acoustic guitar with singing,
- 3:39you know, like it's it's it's all with intention. I like I said
- 3:44to you guys earlier, like I don't get out of bed early at all,
- 3:46and I got up at eight o'clock this morning. I put that album
- 3:47on and I reckon. I was awake within about five minutes. But there's
- 3:52one song on there, one line in particular that really grabbed me. Guys.
- 3:54There's a song called rap and the line and it says, the only
- 3:58way to heal is to hurt more like that is it's so spot on the
- 4:01money, but it's just not something you think of it. Where where that
- 4:04come from? Uh? We were writing Wrath and uh, we were thinking
- 4:13of a part for the build up, and I think it was something that
- 4:16I had just said as like a placeholder. And then the more we thought
- 4:21about it, we were like, you know what, like this is,
- 4:24this is exactly spot on what this song is about. Like you know,
- 4:28like you have to go, you have to go through the ship to get
- 4:31better, you have to to really live in the down to to see the
- 4:36other side of it, you know. And uh, that's kind of the
- 4:41the symbolism behind the song. And it was I'm glad you resonated that line
- 4:46because that's that's a that's a very cool line. It ended up ended up
- 4:50being one of the stronger lines of of that song, for sure. I
- 4:55think that's like chose another. It's another talent I guess in songwriting, like
- 4:59the way you describe it, and then like a lot of people would take
- 5:00that long verbouse way around describing it, but to sort of condense it all
- 5:04down in one little line and to say the only way to heal is to
- 5:08hurt more, it's just it should be on a T shirt. It's fucking
- 5:10great. That's definitely an idea. We're gonna, we're gonna be, we're
- 5:15gonna be doing. And I noticed there's no song on there called Searching for
- 5:19Solace, which which means that the title's got to have a bit more significance.
- 5:27Yeah. You know, Vigil really is the leader when it comes to
- 5:30like lyrical things and thematic things, but he kind of let the rest of
- 5:33us into the process a little bit more on this record in terms of like
- 5:36helping to write lyrics. And so when we had finished the record and we're
- 5:42thinking about a title and what this record meant to us and what the process
- 5:46of making it writing it meant to us, it really was it became clear
- 5:50to us that it was about this journey that we're on together and that for
- 5:56so long. When we were younger, we were so focused on destinations and
- 6:00finding solace and like always chasing these things and sometimes missing parts of the journey.
- 6:04And as we are getting a little bit older and starting this new chapter
- 6:09in our lives with this record in particular, that we're trying to be more
- 6:13mindful of the journey and appreciate things as we experience them and not let life
- 6:16pass us by as it's happening, and that you know, if you want
- 6:20to find solace in life, it is an active process. Like peace and
- 6:25health and those things that we all want to have don't come to you for
- 6:28free. They don't fondo your lap. They take hard work, takes ups
- 6:31and downs, It takes the yin and the yang and all that stuff.
- 6:34And so you know, I think a couple of the words kind of pop
- 6:38together, and we mixed and matched them in every way you can imagine,
- 6:42and vidual kind of one one day when what about searching for Solace? And
- 6:46that that was it. So you know, now we're stuck with it for
- 6:47the rest of our lives. You've Dan broad State is producer for most of
- 6:54the album, but you also had quite a kind of quistad and Glenn mcfolland
- 6:57working on some of this song. So what was the reasonle having so many
- 7:00different produces, Uh just just just to broaden the the scope of the record
- 7:05and and not kind of box ourselves into one certain idea on one certain sound.
- 7:12We wanted to explore other avenues because with the self Tile record, the
- 7:15first one being back after the accident, obviously it was a very important record
- 7:19to us. But like you know, Jim was saying earlier, we kind
- 7:21of knew what the structure was going to be, We knew what the lyrics
- 7:25were going to be about, We kind of knew what it was going to
- 7:27be. And it felt like a very lateral move, which which is,
- 7:30you know, an elevated version of what we were doing before. But this
- 7:32one feels like a step up, like an actual uh yeah, just a
- 7:39push forward. And uh So we wanted to embrace all the ideas possible and
- 7:44work with some of our favorite producers and songwriters and and just get in there
- 7:49and see what clicked, what works, what we were capable of, what
- 7:51we wanted to do, because at the end of the day, you know,
- 7:56we know what it's like to almost lose this and never get another chance
- 7:59at that, so we if we had done anything that wasn't one hundred and
- 8:03fifty percent, which would have been selling ourselves short, and then it would
- 8:07it would just be fake. So we just did everything we could to just
- 8:11just push ourselves the extreme. And I think it comes through in the in
- 8:15the in the songwriting, in the lyrics, and in the performances. I
- 8:20think we worked really hard on them. So yeah, it's a it's a
- 8:24big record for us, and I can't wait for it to be in everyone's
- 8:26ears. I don't know that the average listener probably wouldn't be out of tell
- 8:31the difference between those different producers, But from a band perspective, can can
- 8:35you hear much difference in my different producers mix you stuff? I mean,
- 8:41each of those people brings something different to the table. Like when Dan Bronstein
- 8:46sits down with a guitar and riffs around, it's you know, it's it's
- 8:50stuff that we wouldn't have necessarily thought to try ourselves. So working with all
- 8:56these different people helped push us and like kind of kind of grow. But
- 9:01there's nothing on there that's not the ghost inside. You know. It's kind
- 9:05of like having your edgy friend who says we should we should go do this
- 9:09tonight and you're like, we can't do that, but you know, you
- 9:13try it and it feels right, you know what I mean? Yeah,
- 9:16for sure. Now Rowley is quite a design that we really know who we
- 9:20are and we also feel comfortable stepping into the future now, So can you
- 9:24elaborate on that a bit more? Yeah, you know, I think we
- 9:31we have been a band for fifteen years or so as the Ghost in Side,
- 9:33and all of us were in vance prior to this, and you know,
- 9:39we're guys who are married, have kids. We're like, we're more
- 9:43confident I think in our own skin now that we've ever been, and that
- 9:48we're going to tell people who the Ghost in Side is. We're not going
- 9:50to let people tell us who the Ghost in Side is. And you know,
- 9:54I think one of the things that we really tried to do with this
- 9:56record, and we keep going back to this word is just to be.
- 10:00And I actually have Winston from Parkway Drive to blame for putting that word in
- 10:03our head. We saw him pretty early in this writing process and he was
- 10:09asking, you know, how things were going, you know, maybe what
- 10:11direction we were going to go in? And I said, you know,
- 10:13like the record at that time definitely didn't feel like it was quite coming together
- 10:18yet. It felt like a bunch of different songs written with different people,
- 10:20different producers. And he said, whatever you do, go after it one
- 10:24hundred percent. He's like, don't take the edge off anything because you think
- 10:30someone else isn't gonna like it. He's like, if you like it,
- 10:33that is the litmus test, and don't let anyone else decide what your band
- 10:37is. He's like, so, whatever you do, be bold and go
- 10:39for it one hundred percent. Yeah. I was actually only speaking of Winston
- 10:43a couple of days ago when you guys came up, and that guy is
- 10:46probably one of the most inspirational people I've ever met. Like, he's so
- 10:50so positive with everything, and he's so driven, isn't he's He's just one
- 10:54of a kind. He's superman for sure. Yeah, he's a Speaking of
- 11:03Winterton on Parkway Drive, you guys actually making your way back to Australia in
- 11:05September for a run of shows for the twentieth anniversary. Tool like those shows
- 11:11nearly all sold out already, guys, it's gonna be fucking massive. The
- 11:16crazy thing about that, it's It's like Parkway Drive could have done these that
- 11:22arena tour without any other bands. They were like, dude, they literally
- 11:26could have just announced them that them doing this in arenas for you know,
- 11:31come back to Australia doing a tour. They hadn't they haven't done it and
- 11:33for you know, a home tour and forever, and then they would have
- 11:37sold out with me playing with them. But that's the out of the kindness.
- 11:41We're like, dude, let's bring some some sick bands and let's make
- 11:43this like a whole ordeal. So you know, we're very honored that they
- 11:48thought of us, and we had you know, we had we've been having
- 11:52uh stuff in Australia in the works and it's kind of hadn't worked out for
- 11:58us, and we were trying to get down there and then yeah, one
- 12:01day we got this call and it was like, yep, we're doing that.
- 12:03There's no no chance for turning down a Parkway Drive arena tour in one
- 12:07of the best countries in the world. So yeah, we're we're very grateful
- 12:11that they asked us to hop on those shows. And uh, I mean,
- 12:15I think it might be what I'm most excited for this year is is
- 12:18that tour and to be able to play some arenas and just have those vibes,
- 12:24it's it's very exciting. Yeah, and it's not just you guys of
- 12:26Couls is our pro Vile and Void of Vision as well. So you go
- 12:31full headline is in one bill like it's it's no wonder it's sold out.
- 12:35Yeah, it's a it's a wild lineup, man, it's a wild line
- 12:37up from If my research is correct, you guys were Last Daddy if it's
- 12:43Full Children twenty twenty two. No, the Full Till ended up getting canceled.
- 12:50I'm not exactly sure why it happened, but we were supposed to be
- 12:52on Full Till and it ended up not happening. Oh, the whole tours
- 12:58ended up not happening. Solast time we were in Australia was we played Unify
- 13:03in the outskirts of Melbourne in twenty twenty twenty. Yeah, twenty twenty and
- 13:09for the pandemic, right before the pandemic and then yeah, the time before
- 13:13that would have been what twenty fourteen. Yeah, Yeah, it's been Yes,
- 13:16we've done a full yeah, so yeah, it'll have been ten years
- 13:20since. Some of the people have seen us so because I don't imagine everyone
- 13:24was able to make it to unify, you know, like it's in the
- 13:26middle of nowhere and you know, yeah, well three fresh to everyone's memory.
- 13:31What what can stray and fans expect from the Ghost and sidel like run
- 13:35us Through like it? I like, say, a typical live show,
- 13:37because there's no such thing as a typical live show, but run Us Through
- 13:39what you got I reckon you guys would be explosive as fuck. Yeah,
- 13:45just just a lot of intensity, a lot of interaction, a lot of
- 13:48sing alongs, and a lot of energy. I think that's a big thing
- 13:52for our band, is we We really thrive on on putting off the energy
- 13:56and getting it back from the from the crowd and the every single time we've
- 14:03ever come to Australia, man that they've been so supportive and and all the
- 14:05people down there have been been so into our band. And we've been going
- 14:09there since we've been lucky enough to be able to go there since two thousand
- 14:11and eight, pretty much every year, if not every other year, and
- 14:16we have a good career down down in Australia, So just excited to get
- 14:20back there and play for some people and play for some fans, and then
- 14:24play for a lot of people who've never heard of us before. Because Parkway
- 14:28is the biggest band in the whole world. You know, they're playing I
- 14:31think people arenas. It's like, yeah, that's insane. So the other
- 14:35side of that too is the band hasn't been there for a full tour in
- 14:37ten years, so you have to imagine that there's quite a few people who
- 14:39may not even know the band exists at the point. Yeah, So it's
- 14:43a really awesome opportunity that Parkway is giving us to play for people who may
- 14:46have they've never even heard the band before. Why he's gone to be playing
- 14:50a half of Australia right but side all right, boys, well, thanks
- 14:56very much guitar. It's been a pleasure of the album searching for Solaces out
- 15:01now and she's a fucking bracker. Your boys will be out here with Parkway
- 15:03Drive later on this year in September, so there's plenty happening guys, and
- 15:07I'll be in the Brisbane show so hopefully catch up Forrivera Let's go. Yeah,
- 15:13thank you for having us. Cheers man, I oh Way trapped in
- 15:41Sam Rocks in Ruppin and know her and know her look, and I start
- 15:50to feel the drug. Oh growing nod nolder sons so funny. Make Shi
- 16:03shake your rocket. Pispin can't because wristim when you back so quick him it's
