- 0:10Speaker 1: Hi, my name is Jennifer Lawrence and you're listening to
- 0:12Speaker 1: Movie Meltdown. It's showtime.
- 0:26Speaker 2: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:29Speaker 2: Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences
- 0:34Speaker 2: and parental discretion is advised.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Five more cooling in the containment chamber.
- 1:08Speaker 2: To your sentries, we have a rebound.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Meyer?
- 1:12Speaker 4: That is an Oscar Meyer?
- 1:13Speaker 5: That's Roger, dude.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Beth, you were standing with Oscar.
- 1:18Speaker 6: Is he your main wiener man?
- 1:25Speaker 7: Oldsmobile from Hollywood brings you one of the big special
- 1:29Speaker 7: events of the year. This is Bob Cummings speaking, and
- 1:31Speaker 7: this is the corner.
- 1:32Speaker 8: Of Hollywood and Vine.
- 1:34Speaker 7: The camera is panning you down the boulevard. These are
- 1:37Speaker 7: temporary bleacher seats to accommodate a crowd of thousands. The
- 1:40Speaker 7: line of traffic extends in both directions as far as
- 1:43Speaker 7: you can see. Everything in the central area here in
- 1:46Speaker 7: Hollywood is being funneled toward the Pantages Theater because this
- 1:50Speaker 7: is Oscar night. Oldsmobile brings you the 27th annual award
- 1:54Speaker 7: show of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
- 1:58Speaker 7: And now here is the Academy Awards Orchestra, the Overture,
- 2:01Speaker 7: and David Rose conducting.
- 2:23Speaker 9: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian and
- 2:26Speaker 9: this is the fifth annual Oscar Meltdown. For five years
- 2:29Speaker 9: now we've been doing our own little take on the Oscars.
- 2:33Speaker 9: Well this year we are coming to you live via
- 2:35Speaker 9: digital recording from Bo's house. Now keep in mind, this
- 2:39Speaker 9: time the gang decided to record the bulk of the
- 2:41Speaker 9: show after the Oscars. So I wanted to just get
- 2:43Speaker 9: rolling and get right into it. Well, there's no real
- 2:47Speaker 9: way to do a traditional intro in the middle of
- 2:49Speaker 9: what was going on there. So I'll just try to
- 2:51Speaker 9: ease you into it. So to set the scene, we're
- 2:54Speaker 9: sitting there at Bo's, a good amount of people on hand,
- 2:57Speaker 9: including Fred, Greg, Marlena, Ben, Bo, of course, myself. And
- 3:03Speaker 9: you'll hear a little of Bennett in the background, usually,
- 3:06Speaker 9: who I don't believe you met before, but he comes
- 3:08Speaker 9: into play.
- 3:09Speaker 1: And then there's Paul.
- 3:11Speaker 10: Paul.
- 3:13Speaker 9: Well, my words just won't do Paul justice. You'll just
- 3:16Speaker 9: have to hear him in action for yourself. But Paul
- 3:18Speaker 9: has been in all of Bo's movies. So if you
- 3:20Speaker 9: think he's great, which you should, and you want to
- 3:23Speaker 9: see him in action, that DVD that we have available
- 3:26Speaker 9: on the Movie Meltdown website, well, he's featured in that too.
- 3:30Speaker 9: Paul is quite a character and seemed very appreciative that
- 3:33Speaker 9: I introduced the Oscar Mayer element to the party this year.
- 3:37Speaker 9: So keep that in mind as well. So we've just
- 3:39Speaker 9: finished watching the 14 hours of the Oscars coverage, and
- 3:43Speaker 9: a good many people have been drinking the entire evening.
- 3:46Speaker 9: We've been eating loads of pork, and Beau served some
- 3:49Speaker 9: non-meat-related items as well, just to balance things out.
- 3:52Speaker 8: We've just seen the First.
- 3:53Speaker 9: Lady show up in the middle of the Oscar ceremony,
- 3:56Speaker 9: which you'll hear Paul's reaction to, which is hilarious. My
- 4:01Speaker 9: favorite part is, it's not really political as much as
- 4:03Speaker 9: it is just location.
- 4:05Speaker 8: Oh, it's too funny.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Yeah, you'll hear it.
- 4:10Speaker 9: And we're busting out the annual tradition of pastry crack
- 4:12Speaker 9: for dessert. And now we're going to try to take
- 4:15Speaker 9: all that insanity and channel it into an episode. A
- 4:18Speaker 9: lost cause, you say?
- 4:19Speaker 8: I find it more of a challenge.
- 4:23Speaker 9: That having been said, I will go on record as
- 4:25Speaker 9: saying this is not a good starter episode. I had
- 4:28Speaker 9: someone tell me last year that the first episode they
- 4:31Speaker 9: tried to listen to was one of our Oscar shenanigan-filled episodes. Well,
- 4:36Speaker 9: that's no way to do it. This isn't an intro episode.
- 4:39Speaker 9: This is for seasoned listeners, veterans even. who are familiar
- 4:44Speaker 9: with our dysfunctional family unit and style and appreciate hearing
- 4:49Speaker 9: the moments of genius that happen as you go off
- 4:51Speaker 9: the rails. So if that's you, hey, you came to
- 4:54Speaker 9: the right episode. We'll get right into it here in
- 4:56Speaker 9: a minute. But if not, yeah, go pick another one.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Or message me.
- 5:00Speaker 9: I can find you a good starter episode.
- 5:02Speaker 1: But this is not it.
- 5:04Speaker 9: With that all having been said, I give you this
- 5:06Speaker 9: year's Oscar Meltdown and introduce you to Paul.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Wow, pastry crack.
- 5:13Speaker 11: This is good.
- 5:15Speaker 4: What the hell?
- 5:17Speaker 1: Wake up, Marlena.
- 5:18Speaker 12: We got a podcast.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Bo, what was the name of this last cocktail here?
- 5:24Speaker 11: Oh, yeah.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Six Kinds of Crazy.
- 5:26Speaker 4: Six Kinds of Crazy.
- 5:27Speaker 12: Do you like it?
- 5:29Speaker 6: I do.
- 5:29Speaker 8: You should introduce yourself. Good.
- 5:32Speaker 1: It should be Steven because he's got the most booze.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Until they'll know who.
- 5:35Speaker 6: They're dealing with.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Time of the day to actually break the broadcast. Tell
- 5:40Speaker 1: them what your name is. I've lost something from my
- 5:43Speaker 1: own fridge.
- 5:45Speaker 11: Hello. My name is Paul Grohkopf. Is that good?
- 5:54Speaker 4: What?
- 5:54Speaker 1: That's your six. Actor. You're an actor yourself. You got
- 5:58Speaker 1: six shots in.
- 5:58Speaker 13: What?
- 5:59Speaker 8: In the fine film Symbiosis. Yes, I was in Symbiosis.
- 6:04Speaker 8: In fact, I was in all of it.
- 6:08Speaker 11: Most of Bo Kalin's films.
- 6:09Speaker 6: All of them.
- 6:10Speaker 11: Oh, excuse me. I stand corrected.
- 6:14Speaker 1: You sit corrected.
- 6:16Speaker 14: I sit corrected. I've been corrected twice. I sit corrected.
- 6:23Speaker 15: A lot more times than that.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 6:26Speaker 14: But in the past few minutes, I've been corrected twice.
- 6:31Speaker 14: I have been in all of Bo Kalin's very fine films.
- 6:36Speaker 4: I can't find my pizza rolls right now.
- 6:37Speaker 14: Cole Kaelin cannot find his pizza rolls.
- 6:42Speaker 1: This is a party.
- 6:43Speaker 12: There's lost pizza rolls.
- 6:45Speaker 11: He has lost his pizza rolls.
- 6:47Speaker 4: We are a classy operation.
- 6:50Speaker 1: We're dealing with pizza rolls.
- 6:51Speaker 11: I don't know what that means.
- 6:57Speaker 1: No, it's not.
- 6:59Speaker 6: I don't know how much.
- 7:00Speaker 11: Recording we've done here. How much recording have we done?
- 7:03Speaker 4: Way too much.
- 7:04Speaker 11: Way too much.
- 7:05Speaker 14: But I just want to say, for the record, in
- 7:07Speaker 14: case we haven't done a whole lot, Brian is a
- 7:10Speaker 14: culinary genius. I just want that to go out there
- 7:14Speaker 14: because the man is brilliant when it comes to bologna.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Hot dogs, and Spam, and bacon.
- 7:27Speaker 8: Okay?
- 7:29Speaker 4: You had to get wrapped in bacon.
- 7:31Speaker 14: It's more than just bacon and bologna. He has thrown
- 7:38Speaker 14: in Spam. And that is just, it's been wonderful.
- 7:45Speaker 7: Okay?
- 7:46Speaker 14: We've been sitting there watching the Oscars and I have
- 7:48Speaker 14: been eating his little Puffy things, which he stuffs with.
- 7:53Speaker 16: Those are hors d'oeuvres.
- 7:57Speaker 6: Hors d'oeuvres.
- 7:58Speaker 11: Okay, they are specifically hors d'oeuvres.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Not to be taken wrong.
- 8:02Speaker 8: No, no.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Not that there's anything wrong with them, but that's not
- 8:05Speaker 1: what was going on tonight.
- 8:06Speaker 6: No, not at all.
- 8:08Speaker 11: Except if you throw in Christopher Plummer.
- 8:11Speaker 6: That's a different story.
- 8:13Speaker 14: The man's 87 years old and he still has it.
- 8:17Speaker 11: But anyway, damn straight.
- 8:20Speaker 14: But anyway, I was talking about his food preparation abilities.
- 8:26Speaker 14: I just wanted that to go on the record that
- 8:29Speaker 14: he's just really good at that.
- 8:33Speaker 11: That's all. I just want to get that out there.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I'll drink to that.
- 8:37Speaker 11: Who was that?
- 8:39Speaker 1: That would be Ben.
- 8:40Speaker 14: Ben said he would drink to that, and I've been
- 8:43Speaker 14: drinking to that quite a bit.
- 8:44Speaker 6: Okay.
- 8:48Speaker 14: If it's not obvious to anybody, it should be because
- 8:51Speaker 14: I have been.
- 8:53Speaker 11: Okay. Thank you very much.
- 8:55Speaker 6: Thank you very much.
- 8:56Speaker 11: I've been drinking to that quite a bit.
- 8:59Speaker 6: And if it was up to Bo Kalin, I'd probably
- 9:01Speaker 6: be drinking to that quite a bit more.
- 9:03Speaker 14: Because Bo Kalin is like that.
- 9:06Speaker 11: He does that.
- 9:08Speaker 8: He's a bad influence.
- 9:10Speaker 11: He is a bad influence.
- 9:11Speaker 6: Well, I don't know if he's a bad influence. He's
- 9:13Speaker 6: an influence, whether it's for good or evil.
- 9:15Speaker 4: He's a very good bad influence.
- 9:18Speaker 15: Yes, that's exactly correct.
- 9:20Speaker 4: He's a good bad influence.
- 9:21Speaker 8: He likes to encourage peer pressure.
- 9:23Speaker 14: That's right, and Bo has ran off seeking his pizza rolls.
- 9:28Speaker 11: Which seems to have been lost somewhere.
- 9:33Speaker 15: Desperately Seeking Pizza Rolls.
- 9:36Speaker 8: That should be a film.
- 9:38Speaker 11: That should be a film.
- 9:40Speaker 8: Is Desperately Seeking Pizza Rolls.
- 9:45Speaker 11: This is a film thing, isn't it?
- 9:48Speaker 4: Yes. It's a film thing. I wouldn't understand.
- 9:52Speaker 15: I definitely don't understand.
- 9:57Speaker 11: Because I've been talking to the microphone all night and
- 9:59Speaker 11: I don't know what that means.
- 10:01Speaker 4: It's not even plugged up.
- 10:02Speaker 6: It hasn't even been plugged up.
- 10:05Speaker 8: My gosh.
- 10:06Speaker 1: All that stuff I've been saying to it.
- 10:08Speaker 6: And it hasn't even been plugged up.
- 10:10Speaker 17: This is the longest skit from America's Funniest Home Videos.
- 10:13Speaker 6: Oh my gosh.
- 10:14Speaker 16: I've been talking to this microphone all night and it
- 10:17Speaker 16: hasn't even been plugged up.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Is this one plugged up?
- 10:21Speaker 18: I have no idea where the pizza rolls are.
- 10:24Speaker 1: I've been looking.
- 10:25Speaker 6: We're always still trying to find the pizza rolls.
- 10:26Speaker 1: I don't know where the pizza rolls are.
- 10:28Speaker 14: He hasn't found the pizza rolls.
- 10:30Speaker 1: They're somewhere in the house.
- 10:33Speaker 11: Is this on now? Are we supposed to be talking
- 10:36Speaker 11: about anything?
- 10:37Speaker 1: We should probably start the show.
- 10:39Speaker 6: Oh, we're starting the show? I'm not even on the show.
- 10:44Speaker 1: You are now.
- 10:46Speaker 12: You are now the star of the show.
- 10:48Speaker 8: Pretty much this episode, definitely.
- 10:50Speaker 1: He has to.
- 10:51Speaker 15: Go home soon.
- 10:52Speaker 9: That's why I wanted to get the introduction in there
- 10:53Speaker 9: so they know who they're dealing with.
- 10:55Speaker 1: I feel like I woke up in time to watch
- 10:56Speaker 1: Jennifer Lawrence trip up the stairs.
- 10:58Speaker 11: Okay, what are we supposed to be talking about?
- 11:02Speaker 2: Oscars.
- 11:03Speaker 19: Oscars?
- 11:04Speaker 11: Okay.
- 11:04Speaker 4: And Myers.
- 11:05Speaker 12: Well, these are the Oscslurs.
- 11:08Speaker 11: Oscslurs.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I saw that in your email.
- 11:12Speaker 11: Yeah, I thought that was very clever.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Your half is the Oslers.
- 11:16Speaker 12: I brought the Oscar Mayer party.
- 11:18Speaker 14: He said there, Brian certainly did bring the Oscar Mayer party,
- 11:23Speaker 14: and I, for one, appreciate it immensely.
- 11:26Speaker 11: It was very good. It's very good.
- 11:30Speaker 6: And Bo wants to get.
- 11:31Speaker 16: His all-star pizza rolls.
- 11:33Speaker 1: It would make more sense if you lost them in
- 11:35Speaker 1: someone else's house.
- 11:38Speaker 6: Hey, Bo, Bo, Bo, forget the pizza rolls, man. The
- 11:41Speaker 6: pizza rolls are gone.
- 11:42Speaker 1: They're not gone.
- 11:44Speaker 8: In a couple of weeks, you'll smell them, don't worry.
- 11:46Speaker 1: That's what I said.
- 11:47Speaker 13: They're somewhere in the house.
- 11:51Speaker 1: You'll find them.
- 11:52Speaker 14: See, the way these things work is that one day,
- 11:56Speaker 14: if you're not suspecting it, you will trip over something
- 12:00Speaker 14: and it will be.
- 12:00Speaker 12: A bag of pizza rolls. Well, it might be a bottle.
- 12:04Speaker 11: It might be because he.
- 12:05Speaker 4: It might be a bottle.
- 12:06Speaker 6: Because I tell you what, man, you can't go to
- 12:08Speaker 6: Kroger without bumping into that guy.
- 12:11Speaker 1: But he turns up on the damn Oscars.
- 12:14Speaker 6: I mean, I'm watching the Oscars, and there they are.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I was trying to watch Obama the other day, and
- 12:21Speaker 1: the damn.
- 12:21Speaker 8: Oscars broke out.
- 12:22Speaker 1: That's right. I was watching Obama, and the Oscars broke out.
- 12:25Speaker 6: That's about as bad as it gets.
- 12:27Speaker 14: I tell you what, you just can't go anywhere without
- 12:31Speaker 14: him sticking the noses in it.
- 12:35Speaker 11: Come on, you know?
- 12:36Speaker 1: I was watching Argo and Michelle Obama. That's right, that's right.
- 12:40Speaker 6: I was watching The Life of Pies.
- 12:41Speaker 8: She crawled in the boat, you know?
- 12:45Speaker 6: I tell you, it was awful.
- 12:48Speaker 11: It was awful.
- 12:48Speaker 19: I was saying, well, what's going on here, you know?
- 12:52Speaker 8: Obama's in the boat.
- 12:52Speaker 16: I was watching Lincoln. And Obama, you know, came up there,
- 12:57Speaker 16: you know? And he's dressed like Frederick Douglass. I was saying, well,
- 13:02Speaker 16: what's this all about, you know? Obama said, let my
- 13:05Speaker 16: people go. And Lincoln said, well.
- 13:08Speaker 13: Okay, I guess I can, you know, if you want
- 13:11Speaker 13: me to. I mean, you know, I got nothing going
- 13:14Speaker 13: on tonight. You know, my friend, you know, look at me.
- 13:17Speaker 13: I said, what the hell is this about? Lincoln was
- 13:20Speaker 13: just bored. He hadn't even heard anything.
- 13:22Speaker 20: You know, I was watching Argo, and then they were
- 13:25Speaker 20: in Tehran, and Obama walks out, you know, and he.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Says, uh, Hey, guys, what are you doing? He said,
- 13:30Speaker 1: we're making a movie.
- 13:32Speaker 15: And they said, what kind of movie are you making?
- 13:34Speaker 15: We said, we're trying to get these guys out of here.
- 13:36Speaker 6: Obama said, well, can I help?
- 13:37Speaker 1: And they said, well, maybe.
- 13:39Speaker 15: And then, you know, there he was, right in the
- 13:41Speaker 15: middle of that. It was just, I couldn't believe it.
- 13:45Speaker 8: There he was.
- 13:47Speaker 1: He just can't get away from it.
- 13:48Speaker 6: Oh, they're in the cabinet. I'm not aware.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Bo has found his pizza rolls.
- 13:55Speaker 15: Oh, my God.
- 13:56Speaker 20: Bo has found the pizza rolls. They're in the cabinet
- 13:59Speaker 20: with the plates. He looked in the cabinet with the plates.
- 14:03Speaker 20: And what was really weird is Obama was in there.
- 14:06Speaker 20: Obama was in the cabinet. with the plates and the
- 14:09Speaker 20: pizza rolls. He opened up the can and there was
- 14:11Speaker 20: a Bob and said, here's your pizza rolls.
- 14:14Speaker 12: It was amazing.
- 14:15Speaker 15: It was just one of the most amazing things I've
- 14:17Speaker 15: ever seen.
- 14:17Speaker 1: I'm going to Indochina.
- 14:18Speaker 15: And I said, what are.
- 14:20Speaker 1: You doing here?
- 14:21Speaker 15: And he said, I'm getting Bobby's pizza rolls.
- 14:23Speaker 1: I tell you, it was amazing.
- 14:26Speaker 8: That was just.
- 14:27Speaker 12: I wish we could talk about movies. That's the captions
- 14:37Speaker 12: for every episode. This is the most downloaded episode ever, Brian.
- 14:41Speaker 15: I mean, I don't know.
- 14:42Speaker 12: I can't imagine it not being.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 14:46Speaker 8: What was your take on the Oscars, aside from the
- 14:49Speaker 8: Obama factor?
- 14:50Speaker 4: Singing.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Too much singing.
- 14:52Speaker 21: Every time I turned around, people were singing. I looked
- 14:54Speaker 21: on there, and they were singing about something. They were
- 14:57Speaker 21: singing about, I don't know. They were going back like Chicago.
- 15:00Speaker 21: They were singing about Chicago. They were singing about all
- 15:02Speaker 21: this stuff. I was saying, God, stop your singing. This
- 15:04Speaker 21: thing's going on and on and on.
- 15:06Speaker 15: And then when they said, why don't you award somebody something?
- 15:10Speaker 6: Anything.
- 15:10Speaker 12: I mean, throw an Oscar at them.
- 15:12Speaker 15: But still, they were singing. He said, no, let's sing
- 15:14Speaker 15: another song. And I'm saying, why are you singing another song?
- 15:17Speaker 15: I don't get it.
- 15:18Speaker 4: I don't get it.
- 15:18Speaker 22: So my take on Oscars is too much singing.
- 15:21Speaker 11: That's the first thing.
- 15:22Speaker 15: Second thing I have on Oscars is come up, get
- 15:26Speaker 15: your Oscar, walk off. They have to stand up there
- 15:29Speaker 15: and thank everybody. I know, I know, every year everybody says, why.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Do they have to thank everybody?
- 15:34Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 15:35Speaker 15: Now, I guess they feel beholden, but it's so self-serving.
- 15:38Speaker 15: Just go up there, get your Oscars, and say.
- 15:40Speaker 1: I won an Oscar.
- 15:42Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 15:42Speaker 23: And get the hell off there. That's what they ought
- 15:46Speaker 23: to do. Now, as for who won the Oscar and
- 15:48Speaker 23: what and all that, I don't know. I haven't seen
- 15:50Speaker 23: any of the movies. But if I had seen any
- 15:52Speaker 23: of the movies.
- 15:53Speaker 1: I guess I'd have an opinion.
- 15:55Speaker 15: But I don't. So that's that. But anyway, that's my
- 16:00Speaker 15: take on it. Too much singing, not enough awards.
- 16:05Speaker 4: I'm just the opposite. I haven't seen the movies, but
- 16:08Speaker 4: I have opinions anyway.
- 16:10Speaker 1: That's true every week.
- 16:11Speaker 14: Well, I obviously have opinions because I've read about the movies,
- 16:15Speaker 14: although I haven't seen any of them.
- 16:18Speaker 22: I do this thing, I get on the internet and
- 16:19Speaker 22: I read about them. Then I take what I read
- 16:22Speaker 22: about and I try to pick which ones win. And
- 16:24Speaker 22: then they don't... They didn't do a very good job
- 16:30Speaker 22: this year. Last year, they did a really good job.
- 16:32Speaker 6: This year, not so much.
- 16:33Speaker 4: I wanted Snow White to win so she could thank
- 16:36Speaker 4: the little people.
- 16:38Speaker 8: So she could go, I'd like to thank.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 16:44Speaker 8: How did I get here? Where are my pizza rolls?
- 16:48Speaker 15: Well, the pizza rolls have been found thanks to Obama.
- 16:51Speaker 8: But.
- 16:53Speaker 15: As for Snow White, she wasn't nominated for anything.
- 16:56Speaker 4: Was she? No.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Most annoying actress?
- 16:59Speaker 15: Well, if there was a category for that, there'd be.
- 17:02Speaker 4: A lot of nominations.
- 17:03Speaker 8: Most lackluster performance? Again, there's a category for that.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Career-wide?
- 17:10Speaker 15: Again, there's a category for that.
- 17:12Speaker 22: But yeah, there would probably be a lot of nominations.
- 17:18Speaker 15: See, now that was a movie I saw.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I saw Snow White and the Huntsman.
- 17:22Speaker 22: I didn't see any of the movies that were nominated
- 17:25Speaker 22: for Best Picture, but I saw Snow White.
- 17:27Speaker 4: I saw a couple of them.
- 17:28Speaker 11: I saw.
- 17:29Speaker 4: I don't even remember which ones I saw. I do
- 17:34Speaker 4: think I saw some. I saw Beast of the Southern Wild.
- 17:37Speaker 21: Yeah.
- 17:37Speaker 12: I love the title.
- 17:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:39Speaker 1: I was pretty sure that wasn't good.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:42Speaker 1: That really didn't deserve to be.
- 17:43Speaker 8: It was good.
- 17:44Speaker 1: It certainly wasn't Best Picture.
- 17:45Speaker 4: It was a fun movie to watch, but it wasn't
- 17:48Speaker 4: exactly good. You know what was a better movie than
- 17:52Speaker 4: that that was completely ignored by the entire world? It
- 17:57Speaker 4: was our old friend, Stakeland. It was actually a better.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Movie than that. Stakeland was 2011, though, wasn't it? Yeah.
- 18:05Speaker 4: No, it wasn't in the running or anything. But the
- 18:08Speaker 4: thing was, it was so obscure. Back then, blockbusters dotted
- 18:13Speaker 4: the earth.
- 18:15Speaker 8: Way back then.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Yeah, way back then, there were... When blockbusters roamed the earth.
- 18:22Speaker 12: 2011.
- 18:23Speaker 4: And they didn't, they'd never, it wasn't even in their system.
- 18:26Speaker 4: They'd never even heard of it. They couldn't even look
- 18:29Speaker 4: it up and say, we don't have it.
- 18:30Speaker 1: And we'd already covered it on the show.
- 18:32Speaker 4: And said, it doesn't exist.
- 18:34Speaker 1: That was a really good movie.
- 18:37Speaker 11: What is it?
- 18:39Speaker 3: It's kind of a post-apocalyptic, kind of like The Road,
- 18:44Speaker 3: but It's like the.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Best bits of all those post-apocalyptic movies. It's a little
- 18:47Speaker 1: bit of The Road, a little bit of Dawn of
- 18:49Speaker 1: the Dead, a little bit of 20 Days Later.
- 18:51Speaker 8: Yeah, and it was really good.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Everybody in it was pretty good.
- 18:55Speaker 8: It's no Lord of the Rings, but there was a
- 18:57Speaker 8: lot of The Lord of the Rings.
- 18:58Speaker 11: Oh, well, it is The Lord of the Rings.
- 19:01Speaker 4: Christopher Walken was in it.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, Christopher Walken. I can't wait for the re-edit.
- 19:07Speaker 4: You know the movie he was in this year that
- 19:08Speaker 4: was one of my favorite movies of this year that
- 19:11Speaker 4: nobody says anything about? The Dark Horse. He was the
- 19:15Speaker 4: dad in The Dark Horse. It was a great movie.
- 19:20Speaker 4: Nobody said a word about it.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I haven't even heard of it.
- 19:24Speaker 12: I don't even know.
- 19:25Speaker 4: It's that guy, you know, happiness and.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Oh, Todd Solan.
- 19:29Speaker 8: Yes.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Whoa, like he directed it?
- 19:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:32Speaker 24: I just remember scrolling through Netflix once with a friend,
- 19:35Speaker 24: and I was like, what's this?
- 19:36Speaker 1: He's like, it's Todd Solan.
- 19:37Speaker 15: Get the fuck away from me.
- 19:38Speaker 6: Get the fuck away from me.
- 19:39Speaker 4: No, it's really very, very lighthearted for him. Which means
- 19:44Speaker 4: it's skull-crushingly depressing.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Which is your favorite kind of movie.
- 19:49Speaker 8: But it's fun.
- 19:51Speaker 4: Well, according to my kids, it's one of Dad's skull-crushingly
- 19:54Speaker 4: depressing movies. But it's really kind of a fun movie
- 19:58Speaker 4: for him. It doesn't have, like, you know, a pedophile
- 20:03Speaker 4: that you have to feel sad for. Or any of those, like,
- 20:07Speaker 4: things that just... Yeah, grind your brains in the hamburger.
- 20:13Speaker 4: It's really kind of funny. It's almost like, kind of
- 20:18Speaker 4: like a cross between his normal sensibility and maybe like
- 20:22Speaker 4: a Judd Apatow film. So it's kind of fun for
- 20:27Speaker 4: a while before the knife gets twisted. You realize it's.
- 20:30Speaker 12: Two and a half hours long.
- 20:31Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 20:33Speaker 4: No, it's really good. It's a really good movie. It's fun.
- 20:37Speaker 4: I would definitely recommend it, and I don't know why
- 20:39Speaker 4: it's not on the radar as a good movie.
- 20:43Speaker 1: I'd say it's hard to market him. Yeah, there's some
- 20:46Speaker 1: weird things about it.
- 20:48Speaker 8: He did a sequel to Happiness, did he not?
- 20:52Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 20:54Speaker 11: He's sort of gone.
- 20:55Speaker 12: I mean, what is it about his films that's changed so.
- 20:57Speaker 8: Much that he's not really on the radar anymore? He
- 21:01Speaker 8: was always, like, in a weird area anyway.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Like, even when he was sort of popular, he never mainstreamed.
- 21:06Speaker 8: You can't deny people were talking about him a lot.
- 21:09Speaker 12: But, like, that group of people, not mainstream.
- 21:11Speaker 8: Like, he never broke through in a mainstream film, because
- 21:14Speaker 8: he's not going to.
- 21:15Speaker 12: He has too much literary content.
- 21:17Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true. He has way too much literary, like,
- 21:21Speaker 4: credibility for a filmmaker. And I watched Beast of the
- 21:25Speaker 4: Southern Wild, and I enjoyed it, and I loved it.
- 21:28Speaker 4: But it also left me thinking, what a corrupt medium
- 21:32Speaker 4: film is. Because you can just do shit and get
- 21:36Speaker 4: away with it if you make a good impression. It's
- 21:38Speaker 4: like sales. You can really kind of say anything. If
- 21:43Speaker 4: you have an adorable kid in a movie, you.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Can do whatever. You don't have to make any fucking
- 21:49Speaker 1: sense on earth.
- 21:51Speaker 6: You just go, but it's an adorable kid.
- 21:54Speaker 8: Are you referring to the career of sales or the
- 21:56Speaker 8: career of John Sayles?
- 21:58Speaker 4: Oh, no, the career of sales. It's like how people
- 22:03Speaker 4: act as though it's a real thing, but it's really
- 22:05Speaker 4: just whatever works, works. But it's not a science. It's
- 22:12Speaker 4: just charm.
- 22:14Speaker 1: And that is why I think Django Unchained was so great,
- 22:17Speaker 1: because it's the exact opposite of that. It has that
- 22:21Speaker 1: literary quality of... you know, the characters being, you know,
- 22:26Speaker 1: weird or dark or crazy for the service of the story,
- 22:29Speaker 1: and there's no, like... There's humor, and there's enough crowd-pleasing
- 22:34Speaker 1: things in the movie to, like, you know, get it
- 22:36Speaker 1: the popularity that it's gotten.
- 22:38Speaker 4: But it's coherent.
- 22:39Speaker 1: But it's coherent at the same time.
- 22:40Speaker 4: It has an internal logic.
- 22:41Speaker 1: It manages to do both things at the same time. Like,
- 22:43Speaker 1: it manages to be this crowd-pleaser, but at the same time,
- 22:45Speaker 1: it's like this kind of literary, like, really dark, bitter
- 22:49Speaker 1: pill of kind of... a movie that, like, you could only, like,
- 22:54Speaker 1: really compare it to, like, a novel. Like, it has
- 22:56Speaker 1: that aspect to it. No, and it's got so many
- 22:58Speaker 1: levels going on. It's like, there's parts of it that
- 23:01Speaker 1: are just so funny, but then.
- 23:02Speaker 9: There's, like, commentary upon commentary going on.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Yeah, it's so brutal, but at the same time, it's
- 23:07Speaker 1: so hilarious.
- 23:08Speaker 18: Tarantino said his next career beyond screenwriting or filmmaking would
- 23:12Speaker 18: be writing novels.
- 23:13Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 23:13Speaker 8: He said that's the next thing he'd be interested in,
- 23:16Speaker 8: and I can totally see that.
- 23:18Speaker 18: Now, your little comparison as to sales, I mean, I
- 23:20Speaker 18: don't know if that's even the worst thing to say.
- 23:23Speaker 8: I think that is art in general.
- 23:25Speaker 18: You say, oh, this movie's got a corrupt, terrible kind
- 23:28Speaker 18: of message to it, but I'm going to sell it
- 23:29Speaker 18: to them.
- 23:30Speaker 1: And that is art. That's Hollywood more than anything.
- 23:35Speaker 11: I think it's art.
- 23:35Speaker 8: I'm going to draw this ugly person, but I'm going
- 23:37Speaker 8: to make them look great.
- 23:38Speaker 18: I'm going to make them look as interesting as possible.
- 23:40Speaker 8: Whatever I think is good about this, I'm going to
- 23:43Speaker 8: make you think it too.
- 23:45Speaker 12: It's to win you over.
- 23:46Speaker 8: About what I think is worthwhile in this, whether it's ugly.
- 23:49Speaker 4: Or whether it's creepy. I'm not saying it's a terrible message.
- 23:52Speaker 4: I'm just saying, what the fuck is the message? I'm saying,
- 23:55Speaker 4: what is this actually about? It's about a place and
- 24:00Speaker 4: a time that doesn't exist. And it doesn't really make
- 24:04Speaker 4: any sense.
- 24:05Speaker 8: And we don't care.
- 24:06Speaker 4: Like you get to the point where they blow up
- 24:08Speaker 4: like the levee. And all this water, like miles and
- 24:13Speaker 4: miles of water goes rushing in. And I guess they
- 24:16Speaker 4: just gently float over it in their boat. What happens here?
- 24:20Speaker 8: But you don't care. There's a giant mythical beast as well.
- 24:26Speaker 8: What the fuck?
- 24:28Speaker 4: It's just we don't care. That was the hook.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Really, when you think about it, that was the hook
- 24:32Speaker 1: that got everyone. Because if that movie, when you think
- 24:34Speaker 1: about it, imagine watching Beast of the Southern Wild without
- 24:38Speaker 1: all the scenes of the magical realism and all the
- 24:41Speaker 1: giant you know, warthog monsters going everywhere and people talking. Like,
- 24:46Speaker 1: it would be the most boring fucking movie. Like, think
- 24:49Speaker 1: about it.
- 24:49Speaker 14: Like, really.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Like, it's so crucial, like, that being there. And it's
- 24:52Speaker 1: not even, like, those scenes where they're, like, kind of
- 24:54Speaker 1: trotting down. Like, they're stampeding down. Like, I know it's
- 24:58Speaker 1: a shoestring budget movie, but, you know, I mean, it's still,
- 25:02Speaker 1: it feels kind of, like, very, there's no sense of, like,
- 25:05Speaker 1: where they're coming from or, you know. Or where they're going. Yeah,
- 25:09Speaker 1: I mean, it's like, I'm not saying it's like this
- 25:11Speaker 1: minimalistic approach, but it's just so like weird and just there.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Like there's no sense of like narrative momentum. No.
- 25:22Speaker 12: And I don't know.
- 25:22Speaker 1: I just feel like that was kind of like that
- 25:24Speaker 1: movie was kind of built on these like, I don't know,
- 25:27Speaker 1: not necessarily gimmicks, but like definitely visual gimmicks.
- 25:31Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 25:31Speaker 4: I think so.
- 25:32Speaker 1: As far as those giant monsters were concerned.
- 25:33Speaker 4: And I mean that in the best possible sense.
- 25:35Speaker 1: I'm not putting it down like I didn't enjoy it.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Here's what I feel like when I was watching that
- 25:39Speaker 1: movie in the theater, what the audience's vibe towards it.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Because it was one of those movies where after it's over,
- 25:44Speaker 1: most people in the theater were like, that was a
- 25:46Speaker 1: really good movie. And as it was going along, people
- 25:48Speaker 1: were watching this kid who's talking to all these little animals.
- 25:54Speaker 1: I was like, oh, that's kind of cute. That's kind
- 25:56Speaker 1: of charming. And then it shows these giant monsters like, oh,
- 25:58Speaker 1: this is something cool and different.
- 26:00Speaker 4: Like, wow.
- 26:01Speaker 1: And that's the hook that gets you are those giant warthogs.
- 26:05Speaker 1: And no one talks about them. Even in the Oscars here,
- 26:07Speaker 1: they didn't show any footage from them.
- 26:09Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Which is weird to me because I feel like that
- 26:12Speaker 1: kind of fantasy... It's the keystone of the movie. That
- 26:15Speaker 1: fantasy aspect was seriously what made it such an interesting
- 26:20Speaker 1: movie for me. For a lot of people... The element
- 26:23Speaker 1: that made no sense... If you were to only see... Yeah...
- 26:25Speaker 1: If you were to only see... The clips that the
- 26:26Speaker 1: Oscars showed.
- 26:27Speaker 8: Of just.
- 26:27Speaker 1: You know... The.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Well.
- 26:28Speaker 1: I can't remember... I can't pronounce her name.
- 26:30Speaker 14: Uh.
- 26:30Speaker 1: No way you can.
- 26:31Speaker 4: It's okay... The... The consonants.
- 26:33Speaker 1: I've heard just like... Her and her dad... Which are like...
- 26:35Speaker 1: And a lot of those are... Scenes are interesting... Let's
- 26:36Speaker 1: just call her consonants... But... You would think like... When
- 26:39Speaker 1: you're watching those.
- 26:40Speaker 8: You're like.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Okay... What's so... Why did everyone love this movie so much?
- 26:43Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 26:43Speaker 1: I honestly truly think that... Like so much of... Why
- 26:47Speaker 1: that movie got the attention it did... Was because of those.
- 26:49Speaker 4: Scenes.
- 26:50Speaker 1: With those weird crazy creatures. Just thrown in there. Had
- 26:54Speaker 1: nothing to do with life.
- 26:55Speaker 8: To me, once I got there, I was like, why?
- 26:57Speaker 8: They're just sort of jammed in there. They don't really
- 27:00Speaker 8: affect the plot. And the movie is named for them.
- 27:04Speaker 7: I know.
- 27:04Speaker 1: And they don't really come into play. I was always
- 27:07Speaker 1: kind of curious.
- 27:08Speaker 8: There were moments in Beast of the Sudden Wild where
- 27:10Speaker 8: I saw drunken debauchery of just crazed people who had
- 27:14Speaker 8: kind of lost... I mean, there's some scenes.
- 27:17Speaker 1: In that movie, I'll be honest, that you're like, borderline
- 27:20Speaker 1: child abuse?
- 27:21Speaker 12: Like, really?
- 27:22Speaker 1: You're going to act this way towards a little kid
- 27:24Speaker 1: and not even give a shit?
- 27:25Speaker 18: They're rejecting civilization, and I thought maybe that could legitimize
- 27:30Speaker 18: the title.
- 27:31Speaker 8: That these are the beasts right here.
- 27:33Speaker 4: Right.
- 27:34Speaker 18: These are the people who would rather be animals. And
- 27:36Speaker 18: I'm not saying that the animal is an ugly thing.
- 27:38Speaker 18: It's like they want to just live. They want to feel.
- 27:41Speaker 18: And that's more of an animal thing. than the civilization
- 27:44Speaker 18: kind of thing. So I thought that could apply to
- 27:46Speaker 18: them just as much as the creatures you see.
- 27:48Speaker 1: You can definitely take it that way. Yeah.
- 27:50Speaker 4: And it's kind of like a James Joyce-ian thing. I
- 27:53Speaker 4: don't know why. But when I was reading international law
- 27:58Speaker 4: about the rights of people with diminished intellectual capacity, that's
- 28:05Speaker 4: when I understood James Joyce. Because he was like a
- 28:08Speaker 4: literary genius who was married to a woman who was
- 28:13Speaker 4: not even literate but he had that relationship and his
- 28:19Speaker 4: writing is really just about not being a snob about
- 28:24Speaker 4: what constitutes a decent human life and when Faulkner starts
- 28:29Speaker 4: trying to write about him he makes it more obvious
- 28:32Speaker 4: because he writes from the point of a severely retarded
- 28:35Speaker 4: guy and in that kind of stream of consciousness way
- 28:40Speaker 4: And then it's like, oh, I get it. And all
- 28:42Speaker 4: the things I didn't understand in James Joyce, like, you know,
- 28:45Speaker 4: there's that movie The Dead. There's a use of the
- 28:48Speaker 4: word irony in that story I never understood because she
- 28:51Speaker 4: was talking about his wife winds up talking about her
- 28:54Speaker 4: dead boyfriend. And he says, what was he? And she
- 28:58Speaker 4: says he worked in the gas works. And then he's
- 29:02Speaker 4: depressed by the failure of his irony. And I'm like,
- 29:05Speaker 4: what was his irony? I don't get it. What was his...
- 29:08Speaker 4: And it finally dawned on me, oh, it's because he
- 29:10Speaker 4: was a lower class guy, so what was he is
- 29:14Speaker 4: like ironic because he was nothing. And finally I understood
- 29:18Speaker 4: what that was supposed to mean. And it's all about,
- 29:22Speaker 4: you know, this guy who's a snob, essentially, without knowing
- 29:26Speaker 4: it because he's so highly educated. And he looks and
- 29:30Speaker 4: he offends the maid as he comes in the door
- 29:33Speaker 4: at the beginning.
- 29:34Speaker 8: It's like, oh, I get it.
- 29:36Speaker 1: And that's my relationship.
- 29:38Speaker 8: Barton Fink, John Turturro's character.
- 29:40Speaker 18: Is so proud of representing the common man while he
- 29:44Speaker 18: will not listen to the common man.
- 29:45Speaker 1: He won't listen, yeah.
- 29:47Speaker 4: And that was about Clifford Odets, who had that play,
- 29:52Speaker 4: I don't know, it was like, he didn't have the
- 29:54Speaker 4: same line in the movie, but it was something like,
- 29:56Speaker 4: I wouldn't trade that kid for a... You're going to
- 30:00Speaker 4: be hearing from that kid, and I don't mean a postcard.
- 30:03Speaker 4: What was that Clifford Odette's play? It was Awake and Sing.
- 30:08Speaker 4: If you read that play, it sounds just like Barton Fing.
- 30:13Speaker 4: But it's a little odd. Why are they making fun
- 30:16Speaker 4: of a guy that nobody pays any attention to anymore anyway?
- 30:19Speaker 4: It is kind of funny, though. So anyway, that's my
- 30:27Speaker 4: reaction to.
- 30:29Speaker 4: A beast of the southern wild.
- 30:31Speaker 6: All right.
- 30:32Speaker 9: On the other hand, you have had pastry crack for
- 30:35Speaker 9: the first time.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Ben, what do you think?
- 30:37Speaker 12: I think it is amazing.
- 30:39Speaker 1: I think it's delicious. I could have been talking while
- 30:43Speaker 1: I was eating it, but I was like, I'm just
- 30:45Speaker 1: going to shut.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Up and enjoy it.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Pastry crack. Yeah, this pastry crack. It's essentially what it is.
- 30:53Speaker 15: Can I have some pastry crack?
- 30:56Speaker 8: It has become an Oscar meltdown tradition.
- 30:59Speaker 1: I've had it before.
- 31:01Speaker 4: I had it last year.
- 31:02Speaker 1: I don't care. What am I?
- 31:07Speaker 4: A Hollywood starlet?
- 31:10Speaker 8: Dude, I've smoked asbestos.
- 31:13Speaker 1: You can hand me some pastry crack. I am proud.
- 31:19Speaker 4: Last year, I'm a vegetarian.
- 31:21Speaker 15: Last year, I ate the pork.
- 31:24Speaker 1: Because you can't fight. Because I don't want to be.
- 31:26Speaker 4: One of those people who's like, I don't do that.
- 31:28Speaker 4: I never do that. I'm like, okay, I'll do it.
- 31:33Speaker 4: I'm like that scene in Clerks, too.
- 31:35Speaker 6: What is it?
- 31:37Speaker 4: You never go ass to mouth. You never go ass
- 31:39Speaker 4: to mouth. And when you go, well, maybe sometimes.
- 31:43Speaker 8: There's certain circumstances.
- 31:47Speaker 1: So, okay, I have a question. What movies out of the, what,
- 31:52Speaker 1: nine Best Picture nominees did not feel like a self-conscious movie? Like,
- 32:00Speaker 1: the movie wasn't presenting itself like this is a movie
- 32:04Speaker 1: to you. Which, the worst example of that, I mean,
- 32:07Speaker 1: even though it was a good movie, of, you know,
- 32:09Speaker 1: that happening was Lincoln, for me. Lincoln was so, like, self-consciously.
- 32:13Speaker 4: Born to win.
- 32:14Speaker 1: A self... Like, a Steven Spielberg movie. Like, you could...
- 32:19Speaker 1: It was almost distracting how much, like, that kind of
- 32:24Speaker 1: sense of self-awareness was permeating through the... I don't know
- 32:28Speaker 1: if this is me.
- 32:29Speaker 8: I put.
- 32:30Speaker 18: Tarantino and Spielberg, I put them in the same boat,
- 32:33Speaker 18: the way how they regard what other movies.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's the thing, like, Tarantino, I can see, like,
- 32:38Speaker 1: maybe it's the John Williams movies, but the thing with Tarantino,
- 32:41Speaker 1: I totally get where people are like, you can totally tell, like, yeah,
- 32:43Speaker 1: that's a Tarantino movie, and his movies are definitely referencing movies,
- 32:47Speaker 1: but at the same time, I have to just, like,
- 32:51Speaker 1: I'm so, like, I guess you could say distracted or, like,
- 32:54Speaker 1: absorbed in, like, how original his concepts are. are, and, like,
- 32:59Speaker 1: how original his characters are, and, like, the scenarios that
- 33:02Speaker 1: he puts them in, that it's just, like, I don't
- 33:03Speaker 1: even notice that, like, I'm not, like, oh, I'm watching
- 33:06Speaker 1: a Tarantino movie, because it gets to a point where I'm, like,
- 33:10Speaker 1: this isn't a really, like, like, this, this story that
- 33:12Speaker 1: I'm watching of, like, this slave who becomes, basically, this, like,
- 33:15Speaker 1: bounty hunter god, like, it's just, it's never been done before,
- 33:19Speaker 1: and it's kind of crazy, and it's, like, it's funny,
- 33:22Speaker 1: but at the same time, it's really dark, and weird,
- 33:24Speaker 1: and depressing, and sad, but it's, like, I can't, you
- 33:27Speaker 1: can't put your finger on it and the whole sense
- 33:31Speaker 1: of I'm watching a movie made by Quentin Tarantino, like
- 33:34Speaker 1: that whole Kill Bill kind of vibe, totally just like,
- 33:38Speaker 1: you forget about it.
- 33:39Speaker 18: To answer your question, I think the only movie that
- 33:42Speaker 18: doesn't feel self-conscious is Amour.
- 33:44Speaker 1: That's a good, that's probably the perfect answer, actually. I
- 33:46Speaker 1: was going to say, like, because that's one movie that
- 33:49Speaker 1: I feel like, I haven't seen it.
- 33:50Speaker 11: Alright, so I.
- 33:51Speaker 10: Don't know people that actually did the Oscar ballots.
- 33:54Speaker 1: We had Ben, Greg, Sharon, Brian, and me.
- 33:59Speaker 13: And Paul.
- 34:00Speaker 11: And I.
- 34:02Speaker 4: Not to be a grammar person.
- 34:05Speaker 10: Alright, so in bottom place, just because you didn't finish
- 34:08Speaker 10: the ballot, would be Ben.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Oops. I voted for like two things.
- 34:13Speaker 10: Called by Greg at 39, Bennett at 44, Sharon at 46...
- 34:19Speaker 10: Me and Brian tied for at 51.
- 34:21Speaker 8: Brian and I tied.
- 34:28Speaker 12: And coming in first place for his second year in.
- 34:33Speaker 1: A row.
- 34:35Speaker 5: How does he do it?
- 34:38Speaker 1: He didn't see a movie. He didn't see a single
- 34:40Speaker 1: goddamn movie. That's the secret.
- 34:43Speaker 12: You don't watch the movies.
- 34:47Speaker 15: No bias.
- 34:48Speaker 1: What does this teach us? Seriously, don't watch movies and
- 34:52Speaker 1: you will be way more knowledgeable.
- 34:54Speaker 15: About movies than people who watch movies.
- 34:57Speaker 4: Pugs of Tawny Phil watch the Weather Channel?
- 35:00Speaker 12: No.
- 35:01Speaker 9: It's the same way. You know, you're picking the horse race.
- 35:04Speaker 9: You pick the pretty colored horse that you like. You're
- 35:07Speaker 9: just as likely to win as everybody who spends two
- 35:09Speaker 9: days looking at the odds.
- 35:11Speaker 4: Throw darts at the stock market.
- 35:14Speaker 17: Or you pick the NCAA tournament by which mascot beat
- 35:18Speaker 17: up the other one.
- 35:19Speaker 4: That's true.
- 35:20Speaker 12: Luray DVD everything. Second year in a row.
- 35:23Speaker 11: All right.
- 35:24Speaker 13: Woo!
- 35:25Speaker 8: Hey!
- 35:27Speaker 15: I'm the best commentator who's ever watched this movie you'll
- 35:32Speaker 15: ever see.
- 35:35Speaker 8: That's your billing everywhere you go now.
- 35:38Speaker 2: Oh shit, the pizza rolls.
- 35:41Speaker 6: This is the end.
- 35:42Speaker 5: Hold your breath and count to ten Feel the earth.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Moving then.
- 35:59Speaker 25: Hear my heart.
- 36:00Speaker 26: Burst again For this is the end.
- 36:11Speaker 4: I've drowned and dreamt this.
- 36:13Speaker 19: Moment So overdue.
- 36:19Speaker 5: I owe it then.
- 36:24Speaker 1: Sweat the way I'm.
- 36:26Speaker 25: Stolen Let the sky fall When it crumbles We will
- 36:39Speaker 25: stand tall I'll face it all Together at the skyfall.
- 36:47Speaker 5: When it crumbles.
- 36:54Speaker 25: I'll face it all together at Skyfall.
- 36:58Speaker 26: At Skyfall. Hi, I'm Seth MacFarlane, and I'll be hosting
- 37:08Speaker 26: the Oscars this year, where we'll be celebrating all your
- 37:11Speaker 26: favorite films, like the James Bond movies.
- 37:14Speaker 4: Welcome, martini.
- 37:16Speaker 11: Shaken, not stirred.
- 37:18Speaker 8: Yet no one has ever stirred a martini.
- 37:21Speaker 4: That's not how you make a martini.
- 37:23Speaker 2: Is this your first martini? This is your first martini,
- 37:25Speaker 2: isn't it? Yeah, yeah, you're gonna have fun.
- 37:30Speaker 4: The Oscars, live Oscars Sunday, February 24th on ABC.
- 37:37Speaker 1: People look like Edgar Winner.
- 37:39Speaker 20: Edgar Winner looks back, got long hair, and it's back.
- 37:43Speaker 6: I suppose.
- 37:45Speaker 15: Look at the chick here.
- 37:47Speaker 6: Oh, man, the chick.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Looks more like Edgar Winner than he does.
- 37:51Speaker 11: Look at her.
- 37:52Speaker 8: Move.
- 37:55Speaker 15: Who would win an Edgar Winner looks like contest here?
- 37:58Speaker 2: She would.
- 37:58Speaker 6: She would.
- 37:59Speaker 1: I bet she has man hands, too. I bet she does. Man,
- 38:02Speaker 1: I wouldn't want to.
- 38:03Speaker 11: Oh, man.
- 38:04Speaker 15: She could probably arm wrestle me to the ground.
- 38:07Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Anyway.
- 38:09Speaker 4: Sorry.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Just walk away.
- 38:11Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 38:12Speaker 6: Walk away. Look at her.
- 38:14Speaker 4: She is.
- 38:15Speaker 1: She is Edgar Winner. That's Edgar Winner in drag.
- 38:18Speaker 6: Look at that.
- 38:19Speaker 14: Edgar Winner in drag came out and picked up some
- 38:22Speaker 14: award for Skyfall, wasn't it?
- 38:24Speaker 8: Does any winner in drag kind of cancel itself out?
- 38:29Speaker 8: I think it does.
- 38:31Speaker 15: I still don't figure out how they got Ted out there.
- 38:33Speaker 1: I don't understand how that works.
- 38:36Speaker 15: I mean, he.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Walked out there. I saw Ted walk out there.
- 38:39Speaker 15: It's the magic of cinema.
- 38:42Speaker 1: It's the magic of cinema.

- 39:14Speaker 4: You know, when we called Walt Disney and asked him
- 39:17Speaker 4: to present the music awards tonight, he.
- 39:20Speaker 8: Said, well, we said, Walt, with all.
- 39:22Speaker 4: The songs you've commissioned, with your pictures and luck with
- 39:25Speaker 4: Fantasia and all, you'd be the right man to do it.
- 39:28Speaker 4: After all, think how much you've done for Walt Disney.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Music in Hollywood.
- 39:31Speaker 4: And his warm reply was, I would have thought of
- 39:34Speaker 4: it the other way around.
- 39:35Speaker 19: Let the sky fall.
- 39:47Speaker 1: Face it all together, let the sky fall. When it rumbles,
- 39:55Speaker 1: we will stand tall. Face it all together, let the
- 40:03Speaker 1: sky fall.
- 40:09Speaker 27: To get back to Spielberg, I think I had only
- 40:16Speaker 27: a brief time in which I hated Spielberg, and it
- 40:18Speaker 27: just dwindled away when I realized that he is really
- 40:22Speaker 27: good at preserving tradition, where I sometimes feel threatened by
- 40:26Speaker 27: filmmakers who are trying to make really self-conscious ethics that
- 40:29Speaker 27: he's the only one who's good at being self-conscious of
- 40:31Speaker 27: what a grand-looking movie should be like.
- 40:35Speaker 4: I hated him for a long time. I hated him, like,
- 40:41Speaker 4: the book Jaws came out when I was, like, in
- 40:43Speaker 4: sixth grade. And, like, a friend of mine read it
- 40:45Speaker 4: because he had an older brother who knew about stuff
- 40:48Speaker 4: before anybody else did. And we read Jaws, and then
- 40:51Speaker 4: we saw the movie, and it's like, he fucked it up.
- 40:54Speaker 8: He totally changed everything.
- 40:56Speaker 4: What happened to, like, the sex stuff?
- 40:58Speaker 11: You blame him?
- 40:59Speaker 8: I mean, that was a screenwriting process that led up
- 41:01Speaker 8: to the making of this.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I blame him.
- 41:03Speaker 4: I blame him. I'm just now starting to realize that.
- 41:06Speaker 1: What distinguishes a great, classic Spielberg film from just one
- 41:12Speaker 1: that just kind of sucks or is mediocre is just
- 41:15Speaker 1: basically the actors. Because all of his movies have that
- 41:17Speaker 1: sense of traditionalism, like War Horse, which came out the
- 41:22Speaker 1: year before. It still had that kind of, like, I'm
- 41:25Speaker 1: filming an epic, and John Williams kind of... sensibility. This
- 41:29Speaker 1: is clearly a school movie, but there were no standout
- 41:32Speaker 1: performances or nothing interesting. There wasn't an interesting script by
- 41:35Speaker 1: Tony Kushner. There wasn't an interesting performance by Daniel Day-Lewis
- 41:38Speaker 1: that really made it stick out. I still thought the
- 41:41Speaker 1: movie felt good. The movie felt good, definitely. I like
- 41:44Speaker 1: Lincoln a lot.
- 41:46Speaker 8: I'm talking about War Horse.
- 41:47Speaker 18: I even felt like it was a good feeling kind
- 41:51Speaker 18: of movie.
- 41:52Speaker 8: It was strangely based on a children's book.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Which I honestly don't think my own criticism against it
- 42:00Speaker 1: or not to Spielberg really at all because like I
- 42:02Speaker 1: think he's like as far as like being a a
- 42:08Speaker 1: showman or whatever you know like doing his thing like
- 42:10Speaker 1: he's really good at that and like when it works
- 42:13Speaker 1: it works really well and it worked really well in
- 42:15Speaker 1: War Horse but like the source material still had that
- 42:19Speaker 1: sense of like this is clearly from a play and
- 42:22Speaker 1: it's kind of awkward to me and like there's these
- 42:26Speaker 1: it felt repetitive at times yeah And it was a
- 42:30Speaker 1: lot better than a bunch of movies I'd seen in 2011.
- 42:32Speaker 1: I guess it was 2011. But I feel like Lincoln
- 42:37Speaker 1: was definitely the better movie because it had that extra
- 42:41Speaker 1: punch of a writer like Tony Kushner and an actor
- 42:44Speaker 1: like Daniel Day-Lewis or Sally Fields.
- 42:47Speaker 12: And also the subject matter.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Of Abraham Lincoln because there's never been a really serious... Oh,
- 42:57Speaker 1: I don't know about that. Like, really, like, I mean, well,
- 43:02Speaker 1: I mean, I haven't.
- 43:03Speaker 4: Seen the movie, so it may be at a level
- 43:06Speaker 4: of seriousness.
- 43:06Speaker 1: And I'm not like, I'm not even a fan of
- 43:08Speaker 1: like biopic movies, and this movie like was... I feel
- 43:11Speaker 1: like this was a biopic for people like me who
- 43:13Speaker 1: hate biopic movies.
- 43:15Speaker 4: You know, when you pronounce it biopic, it sounds myopic
- 43:20Speaker 4: rather than biopic. You know what that's called?
- 43:22Speaker 1: That's called me drinking the Lincoln cocktail. Me, the English major,
- 43:27Speaker 1: not knowing how to pronounce biopic.
- 43:33Speaker 14: Oh, sure.
- 43:34Speaker 8: I just thought that was the way we, as Americans,
- 43:36Speaker 8: bastardized the way this is.
- 43:39Speaker 4: I don't know. I thought it was biopic.
- 43:41Speaker 6: I thought it was because that sounds.
- 43:44Speaker 1: It is biopic.
- 43:45Speaker 18: People kept saying there was a Lincoln biopic on the way,
- 43:47Speaker 18: and when I finally saw it, I was like, wow.
- 43:50Speaker 18: You're going to call the last four months of his
- 43:51Speaker 18: life a biopic?
- 43:53Speaker 8: I love it.
- 43:54Speaker 18: This is concentrating on something and not trying to give
- 43:57Speaker 18: you too much.
- 43:57Speaker 8: Yeah, that seems rather biopic. I feel like I'm doing a.
- 43:59Speaker 1: Disservice by calling it a biopic. It's not a biopic.
- 44:03Speaker 1: It's kind of like an interesting... It feels like a
- 44:07Speaker 1: really good work of fiction. I know there's a lot
- 44:10Speaker 1: of factual research and bits of.
- 44:16Speaker 8: Basis.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Things, like actual, you know, meetings and things, you know,
- 44:20Speaker 1: taken from documentations or whatever and blah, blah, blah, political
- 44:23Speaker 1: jargon that they used to, you know, lay the foundation
- 44:27Speaker 1: for this movie, but it still felt like a really, like,
- 44:29Speaker 1: imaginative kind of way of, like, revisioning Lincoln. Like, you know,
- 44:35Speaker 1: it goes back to, like, the changing of the voice
- 44:38Speaker 1: and how he was this kind of... He was stuck
- 44:39Speaker 1: in this shitty marriage and... I don't know.
- 44:44Speaker 18: To hear Spielberg talk about Lawrence of Arabia totally justifies
- 44:48Speaker 18: everything about Lincoln. He talks about how the movie is
- 44:52Speaker 18: mostly not true.
- 44:54Speaker 8: Lawrence of Arabia. It may be the gayest movie ever made.
- 44:59Speaker 1: You know, the best movies, the movies that are really
- 45:02Speaker 1: good about real historical people or factual events are the
- 45:09Speaker 1: ones that take the most liberties.
- 45:10Speaker 4: I was looking at it going, no.
- 45:13Speaker 8: I'm sorry.
- 45:15Speaker 12: I'm sorry, guys.
- 45:17Speaker 1: I'm really sorry. This is two years in a row.
- 45:24Speaker 1: Paul is celebrating his win. I'm sorry.
- 45:26Speaker 6: I'm sorry.
- 45:27Speaker 1: I don't even watch them.
- 45:29Speaker 8: I'm sorry.
- 45:29Speaker 4: I don't want to drink.
- 45:31Speaker 6: I'm sorry.
- 45:31Speaker 1: I'm leaving now.
- 45:33Speaker 9: I'm out of here.
- 45:38Speaker 8: Bo, you should at least give the rundown of the
- 45:40Speaker 8: drinks this evening.
- 45:41Speaker 15: They were very impressive.
- 45:43Speaker 8: Oh, man. I could only drink like one and a half.
- 45:46Speaker 4: I could only drink like half a dozen of them.
- 45:49Speaker 6: After drinking a full jug of beer.
- 45:52Speaker 10: What, like the exact specifics on them as to the.
- 45:56Speaker 4: Recipes for the listeners?
- 45:57Speaker 8: The way they tie it in to the movie. Let
- 45:59Speaker 8: me get some booze first because I'm dry right now.
- 46:03Speaker 8: God forbid we have that.
- 46:04Speaker 4: I'm getting a little thirsty.
- 46:07Speaker 1: You have the most impressive liquor gun that I think
- 46:09Speaker 1: I've ever seen.
- 46:10Speaker 4: I know, it's like people of my parents' generation always
- 46:13Speaker 4: had a stocked bar.
- 46:15Speaker 12: Actually, that's not all of it because I've got a
- 46:16Speaker 12: bunch down in this one.
- 46:18Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
- 46:18Speaker 1: See, that's even more like my parents.
- 46:21Speaker 4: Because the first time my parents came to visit me
- 46:24Speaker 4: at my own house, they came in and they were like,
- 46:27Speaker 4: what's to drink? And I'm like, oh, fuck. Because I
- 46:31Speaker 4: don't keep, like, alcohol in my house.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Buy what you're consuming that night.
- 46:35Speaker 4: Yeah, and I didn't even do that back then. The
- 46:38Speaker 4: only time I started buying alcohol regularly was when I
- 46:42Speaker 4: lived in a dry town. Because I had to make
- 46:44Speaker 4: a point of it. But when I live and it's down.
- 46:47Speaker 8: The street, I would forget for years to buy alcohol.
- 46:51Speaker 4: And I didn't drink. But they came to visit me.
- 46:53Speaker 4: And I was like, all of a sudden, I'm like, oh,
- 46:56Speaker 4: I don't have a stocked bar. What do I do?
- 46:59Speaker 4: And my dad's like, it's okay. I've got some stuff
- 47:01Speaker 4: out in my trunk.
- 47:04Speaker 1: He's prepared.
- 47:04Speaker 4: He had a better stocked bar in the trunk of
- 47:07Speaker 4: his car than I had in my house.
- 47:10Speaker 19: I thought I was doing really well because I have
- 47:11Speaker 19: like four bottles or something on the table at home.
- 47:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 47:15Speaker 1: I was like, look at this impressive bar.
- 47:16Speaker 4: That I have. That's pretty good.
- 47:18Speaker 1: I've got one. It's pretty exciting.
- 47:19Speaker 4: That'll work.
- 47:20Speaker 10: Yeah, but the different drinks that I went with tonight,
- 47:24Speaker 10: the red carpet one that I went with, it's a shot.
- 47:27Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
- 47:31Speaker 8: Flashbacks? It was so good.
- 47:36Speaker 1: It was really just so good.
- 47:38Speaker 10: It's just a shot of this Thatcher's Blood Orange liqueur
- 47:42Speaker 10: and one of Palm, which is a pomegranate liqueur, and
- 47:45Speaker 10: then you just top off like the champagne flute with
- 47:48Speaker 10: a rose champagne, and that's it.
- 47:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:50Speaker 4: Very, very simple.
- 47:53Speaker 10: For the, let's see, what was the next one? The
- 47:55Speaker 10: next one was the Candyland, which was for... Actually, that's
- 47:59Speaker 10: the one I was thinking.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Of when you started out.
- 48:03Speaker 8: I don't normally partake, but there were only two. One
- 48:06Speaker 8: of which was Candyland, which I felt like it was
- 48:09Speaker 8: just to balance things out since I think that was
- 48:12Speaker 8: the person who was kind of robbed this evening. I
- 48:14Speaker 8: think Leonardo should have been nominate that's the best work
- 48:17Speaker 8: he's done his entire life leonardo.
- 48:20Speaker 10: Or samuel jackson i feel like if either had been
- 48:22Speaker 10: nominated they would have won because all the other contenders
- 48:26Speaker 10: in the category were previous winners i mean everybody was
- 48:28Speaker 10: a previous winner in tonight's best supporting actor yeah run
- 48:33Speaker 10: so um that's just so drastically different like the samuel
- 48:36Speaker 10: jackson was good but it was similar to what we've
- 48:38Speaker 10: seen but like leonardo was something different than we've seen
- 48:41Speaker 10: from him.
- 48:42Speaker 4: But back to alcohol.
- 48:43Speaker 8: But back to alcohol. This drink, it's like when you're a.
- 48:46Speaker 4: Child, what you imagine grown-ups are drinking that they're not
- 48:50Speaker 4: allowing you to have. And you're like, that must be
- 48:54Speaker 4: really good.
- 48:55Speaker 8: It must taste like candy.
- 48:57Speaker 10: Yeah, and that was the whole thing, is I wanted
- 48:59Speaker 10: something that tasted like candy. And I called it the
- 49:02Speaker 10: Candy Land in honor of his plantation. But the basic drink, it's...
- 49:10Speaker 10: It's actually six shots. One of Midori, which is like
- 49:13Speaker 10: a melon liqueur. One of Blue Curacao. One of both tequila.
- 49:20Speaker 10: Rose and Hot Rose. So you're getting both the strawberry
- 49:25Speaker 10: and the cinnamon in there. As well as the Butterschnaps. And, oh, God,
- 49:32Speaker 10: what is the sixth one? Oh, it's Swedish Fish Vodka.
- 49:36Speaker 4: That's the sixth.
- 49:37Speaker 1: What?
- 49:38Speaker 4: That's the one with the twist ending.
- 49:40Speaker 1: Now I know why I loved it so much.
- 49:42Speaker 10: And then I added about three shots worth of just
- 49:49Speaker 10: half and half, just to give it that milky flavor.
- 49:52Speaker 10: And then once I poured that into a glass... I
- 49:55Speaker 10: threw a bunch of strawberries into a food processor so
- 49:59Speaker 10: that way it just looked like ground-up flesh.
- 50:01Speaker 4: And I just threw that in.
- 50:03Speaker 10: And the last finishing touch, which I realized I forgot
- 50:06Speaker 10: on the first couple of them, is just you can
- 50:08Speaker 10: pour a little bit of strawberry syrup around the edges
- 50:11Speaker 10: on the inside so it drizzles down like blood.
- 50:14Speaker 4: This must be what angels taste like.
- 50:17Speaker 8: And after you drink them, you strip to the waist
- 50:19Speaker 8: and beat each other, one to the death on the floor.
- 50:21Speaker 10: I mean, that's where Alan is tonight, is he's actually
- 50:24Speaker 10: dead on the floor. And then, let's see, for Anne
- 50:30Speaker 10: Hathaway winning, I did Master of the House, is what
- 50:34Speaker 10: I called it.
- 50:35Speaker 4: To which Paul continued singing the entire time. Yes, yes
- 50:40Speaker 4: he did. But it was a shot of absinthe. Which
- 50:44Speaker 4: makes the heart grow ponderous. It does. Yes, it does.
- 50:49Speaker 4: Two of St.
- 50:51Speaker 10: Germain, which is an elderflower liqueur, and once you pour
- 50:54Speaker 10: that into a glass, just top it off with carbonated
- 50:58Speaker 10: apple juice.
- 51:00Speaker 4: And that's actually what that was. Heaven. The Life of
- 51:05Speaker 4: Pie drink, which I named.
- 51:08Speaker 1: That was my favorite. Oh, thank you.
- 51:11Speaker 4: Every time you recount one of these drinks, I want
- 51:13Speaker 4: Barbara Streisand to come out and sing Memories.
- 51:17Speaker 10: Or at least sing like she did tonight to where
- 51:19Speaker 10: it brings the show to an end.
- 51:20Speaker 1: It's called The Life of.
- 51:28Speaker 10: Pi, one that Richard Parker, and that was really, really simple.
- 51:31Speaker 10: It was just a shot of Amarula, one of Amaretto,
- 51:38Speaker 10: and one of Domaine de Canton, which is a ginger liqueur.
- 51:41Speaker 10: You shake those on the rocks and pour it over
- 51:44Speaker 10: the rocks and add some curry powder.
- 51:47Speaker 4: It's like butter.
- 51:48Speaker 11: It is very good.
- 51:50Speaker 4: It's very similar to butter.
- 51:51Speaker 1: I can't believe it's not butter.
- 51:54Speaker 4: It's like if a cinnamon roll.
- 51:55Speaker 1: Were an alcoholic beverage.
- 51:59Speaker 4: Let's see.
- 51:59Speaker 10: The other two, The Emancipator, Daniel Day-Lewis winning Lincoln. I
- 52:05Speaker 10: wanted something that was very Kentucky, so it's two shots
- 52:08Speaker 10: of moonshine and one of Knob Creek. And you just
- 52:12Speaker 10: top off the rest of the glass with alate. Alate
- 52:17Speaker 10: is good stuff with liquor.
- 52:19Speaker 11: It is.
- 52:20Speaker 1: For some people.
- 52:21Speaker 8: If you're not familiar with it.
- 52:23Speaker 4: Why are you mixing that with scotch? Because it's good.
- 52:27Speaker 4: That's my only rationale for anything.
- 52:30Speaker 8: I'm assuming the rest of the world has no idea
- 52:33Speaker 8: what that is. Flavor.
- 52:35Speaker 1: You can look it up online.
- 52:37Speaker 8: You'll probably be frightened by it if you run into
- 52:39Speaker 8: it somewhere.
- 52:40Speaker 10: And then the one that a couple people are finishing
- 52:42Speaker 10: off right now is what I call.
- 52:44Speaker 1: The one that's kicking my ass.
- 52:46Speaker 10: It's called Six Kinds of Crazy because it's got six
- 52:48Speaker 10: shots of alcohol in it, but it tastes like fruit juice.
- 52:51Speaker 1: I'm intimidated by it because it's one of those delicious, fruity,
- 52:54Speaker 1: Hawaiian Punch fun cocktails. But at the same time, I'm
- 52:59Speaker 1: told that there's 27 different flickers in it. or whatever,
- 53:06Speaker 1: you know, included in it, so.
- 53:08Speaker 4: Yeah, the glass pitcher guy is going to bust through
- 53:10Speaker 4: the wall any minute.
- 53:12Speaker 28: Oh, yeah.
- 53:13Speaker 14: Oh, yeah.
- 53:13Speaker 10: Well, I picked the silliest glasses I had, so. Yeah,
- 53:18Speaker 10: Paul earlier was reading the peanuts glass that he was
- 53:24Speaker 10: drinking out of.
- 53:26Speaker 4: Let's see. Fred has Mayor McCheese. Yes.
- 53:29Speaker 10: Ben has Theodore from Alvin and Chipmunks, and Brian has Grimace.
- 53:34Speaker 8: I specifically chose my Grimace, because he's my favorite.
- 53:37Speaker 4: But yeah, it is.
- 53:39Speaker 8: I'm enjoying that one in honor of my dear friend
- 53:42Speaker 8: Jennifer Lawrence.
- 53:43Speaker 10: Yeah, it's a shot of the Parrot Bay 90-proof coconut rum,
- 53:48Speaker 10: and a shot of banana rum.
- 53:50Speaker 1: I do taste the coconut, actually.
- 53:52Speaker 10: Yeah, one of mango rum, one of peach schnapps, one
- 53:55Speaker 10: of black duck, which is a cranberry liqueur, And Tattoo,
- 54:00Speaker 10: which is another rum.
- 54:01Speaker 4: I have to admit, I don't really taste anything anymore.
- 54:05Speaker 10: No, and I topped it off with V8 Splash. It's
- 54:10Speaker 10: like it's a mix of V8 plus fruit juices.
- 54:12Speaker 1: So it's good for you. It is.
- 54:15Speaker 4: It's healthy. It's healthy. It's health-licious.
- 54:18Speaker 10: And one I'll make in a sec, if folks are
- 54:20Speaker 10: up to it, is the golden statue.
- 54:22Speaker 8: No?
- 54:23Speaker 4: I'm in. Calm down.
- 54:24Speaker 6: All right.
- 54:26Speaker 4: I call the golden statue, which is.
- 54:29Speaker 1: You're going to wake up in the morning.
- 54:30Speaker 8: This is the greatest night ever.
- 54:33Speaker 1: If Jack Nicholson were here, he'd be drinking us all
- 54:36Speaker 1: under the table and just calling us all pussies. You'd
- 54:39Speaker 1: be like, who wants to go for the gold statue drink?
- 54:41Speaker 1: You'd be like, I'll go for that one.
- 54:45Speaker 10: It's kind of similar to what you're drinking, but what
- 54:47Speaker 10: it is, it's a shot of the coconut rum, a
- 54:49Speaker 10: shot of the banana rum, and then a shot of Galeano,
- 54:53Speaker 10: which is an anise-flavored liqueur, and then you double the
- 54:57Speaker 10: amount of liquor, or the... double the volume in there
- 55:00Speaker 10: with mango orange juice.
- 55:02Speaker 4: I'd like to point out before I began this grand adventure.
- 55:06Speaker 4: Grand adventure. Cut him off. Yes. Cut him off has
- 55:11Speaker 4: been like the running gag of the night, by the way.
- 55:14Speaker 4: Two Snuffy Smith jugs of beer that I was very
- 55:19Speaker 4: excited about because they were like $ 3. 99 and it's like
- 55:23Speaker 4: a really good beer. That's what I'm drinking right now.
- 55:25Speaker 8: Yeah, it's really good.
- 55:27Speaker 4: It's tasty. I usually like really heavy, dark beers, but
- 55:30Speaker 4: it's a light beer that tastes good, which surprises me
- 55:36Speaker 4: because I used to swear.
- 55:37Speaker 10: I would never buy a light beer.
- 55:41Speaker 4: What's the point? And you can have heavy beer. But
- 55:45Speaker 4: I got some one day because it was on draft
- 55:47Speaker 4: and it was cheap because I also like cheap beer.
- 55:51Speaker 11: Of course.
- 55:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, there are beers I drink ironically because... Like,
- 55:56Speaker 4: I remember them from when I was a kid.
- 55:58Speaker 6: You be careful.
- 55:58Speaker 1: That's hipster move right there. That's the ribbon! I can
- 56:03Speaker 1: drink PBL. Shut that shit!
- 56:05Speaker 4: Or Cook's was a really horrible beer we used to drink.
- 56:09Speaker 4: Or Black Flag was like one of the worst beers
- 56:12Speaker 4: ever made. But you get to the point, there was
- 56:15Speaker 4: like some Eastern European beer they had at Value Market
- 56:20Speaker 4: that tasted like some sort of Eastern European cologne. And
- 56:24Speaker 4: you just could not force it down your gullet. It
- 56:28Speaker 4: was like, I can't drink something that tastes like a
- 56:32Speaker 4: bad cologne that some guy in.
- 56:34Speaker 3: Of.
- 56:36Speaker 1: All the colognes you drank, this.
- 56:38Speaker 4: Was the worst. Oh, it was horrible. I couldn't get
- 56:40Speaker 4: through it. And I felt defeated by it. I felt defeated.
- 56:45Speaker 4: I felt like the South after the Civil War. I
- 56:48Speaker 4: felt like, I'll rise again, goddammit. But you knew it
- 56:52Speaker 4: wasn't going to happen. I don't know where you're going
- 56:57Speaker 4: with that, actually. You started out. I got to where
- 57:00Speaker 4: I was going with that. That's where I was going.
- 57:03Speaker 29: Keep in mind, he's been hitting all of these drinks
- 57:06Speaker 29: along the way. So has Paul, in case the listeners
- 57:09Speaker 29: couldn't tell. Actually, I think this is going to be
- 57:11Speaker 29: the most downloaded episode ever, just to hear Paul.
- 57:14Speaker 1: We'll see about that.
- 57:15Speaker 4: Go on his tangent.
- 57:19Speaker 10: Did you need anything for me before I get over
- 57:20Speaker 10: there and start mixing drinks again?
- 57:22Speaker 29: No.
- 57:23Speaker 4: Nope.
- 57:23Speaker 1: You can get right on that.
- 57:24Speaker 15: All right, I will.
- 57:25Speaker 8: You never hit my heart Let the sky.
- 57:30Speaker 19: Fall When it crumbles.
- 57:35Speaker 5: We will stand together Face it all together Let the sky.
- 57:41Speaker 19: Fall When it crumbles.

- 58:23Speaker 20: Other film that's good for the wrong reasons for our

- 58:27Speaker 1: It's great slot and we rip the piss out of it.

- 58:51Speaker 4: That's the Crash and Burn Movie Podcast.
- 58:54Speaker 24: Www.crashandburnmoviepodcast.co.uk. A legend, Oscar-winning actor, Christopher Plummer.
- 59:07Speaker 11: Oh, okay.
- 59:08Speaker 13: All right, for those of you who have a Richard
- 59:11Speaker 13: Parker block pie, hurry up.
- 59:12Speaker 12: And drink it, because you're about to get an Anne
- 59:14Speaker 12: Hathaway one.
- 59:15Speaker 1: All right. And here, Christopher Plummer.
- 59:19Speaker 15: And I think the very best kiss in all of
- 59:21Speaker 15: movie history is him in the garden. Look at him.
- 59:25Speaker 1: He's still on.
- 59:26Speaker 12: Was him in which movie?
- 59:27Speaker 1: The Sound of Music. Sound of Music. In the garden
- 59:30Speaker 1: when he kisses her for the first time.
- 59:32Speaker 10: I think you're talking about his most romantic kiss was
- 59:35Speaker 10: in Beginners with another guy.
- 59:39Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 59:41Speaker 4: Chris!
- 59:42Speaker 15: Chris and another guy?
- 59:44Speaker 1: Well, I can't look at him the same way again.
- 59:47Speaker 12: It's so much hotter now?
- 59:49Speaker 9: Yes.
- 59:49Speaker 1: Is there a spit take about that?
- 59:52Speaker 4: Oh, wow.
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: Yeah, he almost made Galliano go have a nose. And
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: you all missed it over here.
- 1:00:07Speaker 6: You really just missed it. For an 80-year-old man. Damn.
- 1:00:16Speaker 12: You can't fight that.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: I won't even try.
- 1:00:32Speaker 28: This is John Wilson, the creator of the Razzie Awards,
- 1:00:47Speaker 28: and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:00:49Speaker 15: I think I love.
- 1:01:01Speaker 10: It's part of your problem, you know, you haven't seen
- 1:01:03Speaker 10: enough movies.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: All of life's riddles are answered in the movies.
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: And now, on with the show.
- 1:01:13Speaker 5: Loving arms, keeping me from wrong. Put your hand in
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: my hand and we'll stay.
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: Let the sky fall When it crumbles We will stand.
- 1:01:32Speaker 13: Tall Face it all together.
- 1:01:34Speaker 19: Let the sky fall When it crumbles.
- 1:01:40Speaker 25: We will stand tall Face it all together Let the sky.
- 1:01:46Speaker 4: Fall I just want people listening to know that there
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: is like TV white static in this room. Yeah, there is.
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: It's a great thing. I love TV white static. Ben
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: has to finish that drink before we.
- 1:02:03Speaker 15: I appreciate the very calm, soothing videodrome signal.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: Poltergeist. It was calming on Poltergeist.
- 1:02:09Speaker 8: TV white noises the new black. If we've gotten the
- 1:02:14Speaker 8: basic rundown out of the way, we do need to get.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: Through the Movie Meltdown Awards.
- 1:02:20Speaker 8: Let's do this.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: Oh, the Movie Meltdown Awards! Otherwise known as the Foilers.
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: We'll get those out.
- 1:02:31Speaker 8: They're pretty impressive. I know you're pretty excited. The best
- 1:02:34Speaker 8: part of the foil. Number one, it's the metal that
- 1:02:37Speaker 8: I think is most similar to our show.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: Is it gold?
- 1:02:41Speaker 11: Is it platinum? It's aluminum.
- 1:02:43Speaker 8: There's an electric blue reflecting off of it.
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: That's the magic of the foilers.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: It's just as beautiful as that Yeti ice sculpture.
- 1:02:52Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:02:53Speaker 8: And the other selling point is you can also take.
- 1:02:55Speaker 12: Leftovers in them.
- 1:02:56Speaker 6: So you can, you know.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: When you're done with the award ceremony, you can load
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: it up with pork.
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: He looks like he's feeling his breast.
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: Did you shape it around an award and.
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: Then somehow peel it off?
- 1:03:06Speaker 8: No. These come this way from their boiler's factory. There's
- 1:03:12Speaker 8: elves cranking them out in the factory. He looks like
- 1:03:14Speaker 8: Jay in Clark's 2 saying, I'd fuck me. I'd fuck
- 1:03:19Speaker 8: me hard.
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: If it was Christopher Plummer, sure.
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:03:23Speaker 11: Well.
- 1:03:24Speaker 8: That's the theme of the evening as well.
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: Right. No, look, I mean, it looks like his arms
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: are going like this.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: It's like an Oscar holding his own Oscar. Foiler knows
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: he's hot.
- 1:03:36Speaker 8: What do you know? They're trusting me to give out
- 1:03:38Speaker 8: this next award all by myself.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: What exactly do I do here, sir? What do I
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: do here?
- 1:03:46Speaker 12: Tell me.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: They just came in. That's the craziest thing.
- 1:03:49Speaker 11: That's how foil comes out of a box.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: In those shadows of an Oscar statue. You tear it off,
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: and it just does that.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: It's not even your name right now.
- 1:03:58Speaker 4: Oh, I have one, too.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: Are you adding one?
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: I have a Fred Trivia Award.
- 1:04:04Speaker 8: We were supposed to add them a while ago, but
- 1:04:06Speaker 8: most people didn't, except that dumb mustache award.
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: I don't know what it was.
- 1:04:10Speaker 8: Are we blaming Alan for that one?
- 1:04:12Speaker 4: I'm sorry for not voting, actually. Yeah, I'm sorry for voting.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: Your votes do not count.
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: I voted.
- 1:04:19Speaker 8: Don't talk about the shit.
- 1:04:20Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm the one that's not on.
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: Most of the movies I hadn't even seen, but I'm like,
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: I can form an opinion anyway.
- 1:04:26Speaker 8: See, that's what I wanted.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: A lot of other people were like, I haven't seen it.
- 1:04:30Speaker 11: I don't want it.
- 1:04:31Speaker 8: I'm like, I'm going for it anyway. All we are
- 1:04:34Speaker 8: is opinions based on nothing. Come on.
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: So that's what I did, and I wind up a pedophile.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: Well, we were just sort of breaking ties.
- 1:04:43Speaker 8: Now, technically... Hottest actress. We're not there yet. And I
- 1:04:46Speaker 8: go for Emma Watson.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: We're not there yet.
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: And then I watch the movie that night and I'm like,
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: I'm a fucking pedophile.
- 1:04:52Speaker 6: Well, we all knew that.
- 1:04:54Speaker 8: She's 12 years old. That's what's hot about her.
- 1:04:56Speaker 6: Good God.
- 1:04:57Speaker 9: Oh, whoa, whoa. Most of it actually came from the
- 1:05:04Speaker 9: Secret Circle, our hardcore fans.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Those of you who didn't vote for that, if.
- 1:05:10Speaker 8: You haven't reached that level of the hierarchy, well, you're
- 1:05:12Speaker 8: slacking and you need to email us and find out
- 1:05:14Speaker 8: how you can be part of that. But until then,
- 1:05:17Speaker 8: this is.
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: You know, most of which came from them.
- 1:05:19Speaker 8: And, you know, so thank you to them for actually
- 1:05:22Speaker 8: voting initially and sending in what they thought should have
- 1:05:25Speaker 8: been at least been in the running. So that's how
- 1:05:27Speaker 8: all this came into play. So the first question we
- 1:05:30Speaker 8: threw out there is, which nobody seems to like the
- 1:05:33Speaker 8: trailer questions. I still kind of like trailers, so I...
- 1:05:37Speaker 8: But they also ruin everything in trailers, so everybody seems
- 1:05:39Speaker 8: to avoid them. So we've had at least two people
- 1:05:42Speaker 8: in both of these next two categories that have voted
- 1:05:44Speaker 8: for I don't.
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: Watch trailers at all.
- 1:05:46Speaker 8: So we still ask, what was the best trailer for
- 1:05:48Speaker 8: a film in 2012?
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: Yeah. The winner is.
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: Shaken, Not Stirred. Skyfall?
- 1:05:56Speaker 8: Yeah. The winner is Django Unchained.
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: Ah, yeah, that was a good trailer.
- 1:06:00Speaker 8: I think the second one's a good trailer. Because I
- 1:06:03Speaker 8: just saw the second one for the first time. What's
- 1:06:05Speaker 8: the second one? Well, they just have different, like, the
- 1:06:07Speaker 8: very first one that they came out with is the
- 1:06:09Speaker 8: one that we were talking about a while ago that's, like,
- 1:06:12Speaker 8: horribly misleading. Like, it seems like the whole movie is
- 1:06:14Speaker 8: going to be them just touring around different plantations looking for,
- 1:06:18Speaker 8: when that's really, like, one scene, and they knock that
- 1:06:20Speaker 8: out of the way.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: So, I think the second one they made is actually
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: the better.
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: One, but... Yeah.
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: I'm not sure. They didn't specify. I personally feel, while I...
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: definitely think Django Unchained is like the better movie but
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: like Dark Knight Rises like that first trailer that came
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: out like I think it was like during the Super
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: Bowl like that was so dramatic like it was almost
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: like a self contained like two minute short film like
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: and they kept playing it over and over I think
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: that was probably the best trailer I don't remember the
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: specifically the Django Unchained I remember them showing like the
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: premise like what the premise what the first 50 minutes
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: of the movie is And not taking you further than that. But, like,
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: the Dark Knight Rises, like, showed all these, like, dramatic, like,
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: points in the movie. Like, mixed together. And you're like, oh,
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: you know that's going to be crazy, but you don't
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: know why. And it's not really spoiling anything, but it
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: still kind of gets your blood pumping. And it kind
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: of went through the whole, like, movie in, like, two minutes.
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: And that was kind of cool.
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: But it didn't reveal anything. Which is, like, I think
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: the best trailers kind of do that.
- 1:07:24Speaker 8: That's a good trailer.
- 1:07:25Speaker 6: I love movies.
- 1:07:26Speaker 12: But not the whole movie.
- 1:07:28Speaker 18: Exactly.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: That's why I liked it.
- 1:07:29Speaker 12: But that's why it was bad. But it was good.
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: Because of that. It was a trailer for a completely
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: different movie.
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: It was perfect.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: Exactly, yes. At the end of this, you're like, I
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: didn't see that trailer. We're all just like, yeah, I
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: didn't see the trailer.
- 1:07:46Speaker 10: The Dark Knight Rises was the trailer for Amor, which
- 1:07:50Speaker 10: was the trailer for Monsters University.
- 1:07:55Speaker 12: And that was not in 3D.
- 1:07:58Speaker 9: See, this is why we don't introduce alcohol into our
- 1:08:01Speaker 9: normal episodes.
- 1:08:03Speaker 8: Amour was originally titled Die Hard.
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: You're very pleased with that.
- 1:08:09Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm very.
- 1:08:10Speaker 8: Happy with that.
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: Shouldn't it be Die Soft?
- 1:08:11Speaker 8: I'm going to be doing that for years.
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: Think about it. It should be Die Soft, right?
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: Spoiler alert.
- 1:08:18Speaker 8: Am I right?
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: Am I right?
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: Am I right? I'm ignoring that.
- 1:08:24Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 1:08:24Speaker 11: I forgot.
- 1:08:25Speaker 8: It's actually called Deathbed, The Bed That Eats People.
- 1:08:29Speaker 15: A classic.
- 1:08:30Speaker 17: The trailer that got me the most excited about a
- 1:08:33Speaker 17: movie was Prometheus.
- 1:08:36Speaker 8: Well, that would be the next win because question two
- 1:08:41Speaker 8: is the most misleading.
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: Trailer for the film in 2012.
- 1:08:43Speaker 12: Prometheus wins.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: Prometheus should win.
- 1:08:47Speaker 15: Nobody voted for it.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: Like, nobody voted for that. Wow. It's hard to remember
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: trailers exactly.
- 1:08:51Speaker 14: I know.
- 1:08:52Speaker 6: I think that's why.
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: Apart from, like, once you see the movie.
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: After you see.
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: The movie Prometheus, then the trailer is like, what in
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: the world?
- 1:08:59Speaker 6: I didn't do it.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: That movie yeah it's a totally different like you totally
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: see it you see it like it's a different thing
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: once you see the whole thing completed.
- 1:09:07Speaker 9: Yeah so yeah nobody voted for Prometheus and once again
- 1:09:12Speaker 9: proving we had a couple of different ones the one
- 1:09:15Speaker 9: that got the most votes gave up on trailers in
- 1:09:18Speaker 9: 2012 yeah So, again, I think we're retiring the trailer
- 1:09:22Speaker 9: category because nobody really wants to watch trailers anymore.
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: Well, now everybody posts actual clips from the movie. Marlena
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: says she wanted a taste.
- 1:09:32Speaker 11: Thank you.
- 1:09:33Speaker 8: I'm still a big fan of the movie posters, too. Again,
- 1:09:35Speaker 8: I don't know how many people pay attention to movie posters,
- 1:09:37Speaker 8: but if you're a.
- 1:09:38Speaker 17: Real movie geek, you know. To me, it's almost like
- 1:09:41Speaker 17: I might see them once or twice, and then.
- 1:09:46Speaker 17: A lot of movies have multiple, have multiple, and then
- 1:09:49Speaker 17: I'm like, well, I can't, I couldn't really draw out of.
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: A hat what, you know, what best would be, so
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: I don't.
- 1:09:55Speaker 8: I think that's it. Nobody remembers, like, specifics. When you
- 1:09:58Speaker 8: go back at the end.
- 1:09:58Speaker 29: Of the year, you've lost track of them all, so
- 1:10:00Speaker 29: maybe that's part of the issue, too.
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: Time passes.
- 1:10:03Speaker 8: That was number three, what is the most awesome movie
- 1:10:06Speaker 8: poster for a 2012 film?
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: And, again, Django Unchained.
- 1:10:10Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:10:11Speaker 4: Now, the reason we vote for that, if you're, if
- 1:10:14Speaker 4: you don't really remember, is you just go, It's the
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: new Tarantino movie.
- 1:10:19Speaker 8: Right there, he's got best trailer.
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: Because it's like, it's a trailer for the new Tarantino movie.
- 1:10:26Speaker 4: And you go, I'm on board. Because it's the new
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: Tarantino movie. And it could be like any of the
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: other trailers. He could use any one of them. And
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: you'd go, but this is a new Tarantino movie. I'm
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: going to go see that.
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: It always kind of works.
- 1:10:40Speaker 17: Well, just seeing Christoph Waltz next to Jamie Foxx dressed
- 1:10:44Speaker 17: up like a cowboy.
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: It already looks like fun.
- 1:10:50Speaker 18: I can't wait to see Christoph Waltz or Jamie Foxx
- 1:10:54Speaker 18: go after whatever's in the trunk of that car.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: I know which poster is specific.
- 1:11:02Speaker 8: I wonder who's going to cut whose ear off. Yeah,
- 1:11:07Speaker 8: they didn't pick the specifics. I don't know if it
- 1:11:09Speaker 8: was the teaser or the actual one sheet, but... Even
- 1:11:12Speaker 8: the limb sheet's not bad, so.
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: I don't know about you guys, but I'm specifically, like,
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: I have in mind the poster where it shows the
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: silhouette of, like, I guess it's Jamie Foxx, like, holding
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: the chains up, and, like, in the background, like, you
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: see a guy, like, on horseback shooting, like, the chain link. apart,
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: like unchained. It's pretty badass. That's the one I thought
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: was awesome.
- 1:11:34Speaker 12: Does that even exist? I don't think that poster exists.
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: Oh, it totally does. It's like one of the three official.
- 1:11:40Speaker 12: Let's go online and you show it to me now.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: It's pretty badass. I just figured that's what you guys
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: voted for because it was the most badass version of Django.
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: You mean D'Jamie Foxx? D'Jamie Foxx.
- 1:11:51Speaker 6: D'Jamie Foxx.
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: And then he shoots the chain.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: The Jamie Foxx. The D and the second X are silent.
- 1:11:59Speaker 11: Oh, okay.
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: Which X?
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: The second. It could be the first one. I'll let
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: you decide. You can choose. Seriously, this was a real poster,
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: and it was awesome.
- 1:12:11Speaker 12: Either X can be silent. I'm not racist. That's really cool.
- 1:12:15Speaker 12: I've never seen that poster.
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: And it's like he's shooting it.
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: We're looking at a movie poster of.
- 1:12:22Speaker 8: On a podcast.
- 1:12:22Speaker 6: It's official, too.
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: It's not, like, a fan-made thing. I don't know.
- 1:12:25Speaker 12: It doesn't have any credits at the bottom of the.
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: Poster, though.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: It really was, like, the... It was, like, released by
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: the Weinstein Company. It was, like, these whole series of.
- 1:12:34Speaker 12: Is it one of those online posters, though?
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: No, like, I mean, it was a real... I.
- 1:12:40Speaker 12: Don't... It's not a real poster.
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: It's too cool to be, like, a real poster.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: It is.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure it's a real.
- 1:12:45Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: I mean, but like the official poster where it's just
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: like a chain going on. They're just like, it's Schultz.
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: Undechained.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like undechained. It's like Schultz and Django just
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: kind of walking off in the distance.
- 1:12:57Speaker 6: It's good, but it's just kind of boring.
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: I think that's the Weinstein silhouettes.
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure I recognize those silhouettes.
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: I'm moving on. Next one I liked as a question.
- 1:13:07Speaker 9: The most questionable career decision made by an actor, actress,
- 1:13:11Speaker 9: or filmmaker in 2012.
- 1:13:13Speaker 11: Who won?
- 1:13:15Speaker 9: Almost unanimous here. Michael Bay not retiring. Everybody liked that one.
- 1:13:20Speaker 9: Does he want to retire?
- 1:13:24Speaker 8: No, but everybody.
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: Really wants him to.
- 1:13:28Speaker 12: Let's see.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: The way it's worded initially is the movie moment that.
- 1:13:34Speaker 8: Made you say, oh my, in official George Takei style.
- 1:13:37Speaker 9: But yeah, it's the most shocking movie moment of 2012
- 1:13:41Speaker 9: for whatever reason.
- 1:13:42Speaker 8: Sex, violence, profanity, whatever you found to be shocking.
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: We got Samuel L.
- 1:13:47Speaker 8: Jackson.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: His character alone in Django Unchained. There's a lot of Django.
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: What were the other contestants?
- 1:13:56Speaker 6: Um, we had.
- 1:13:58Speaker 9: The only other main ones, we had the big fight
- 1:14:01Speaker 9: at the end. I say at the end because the
- 1:14:04Speaker 9: entire movie is a.
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: Fight in the raid.
- 1:14:06Speaker 9: And, again, I think the only time this movie is
- 1:14:09Speaker 9: mentioned in there, the C-section in Prometheus.
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: Huh.
- 1:14:14Speaker 8: Yeah, I saw that.
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: Yeah, that was.
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: I guess.
- 1:14:18Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: More of what for me?
- 1:14:21Speaker 8: What?
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: Until you mentioned the C-section, I forgot I had watched
- 1:14:26Speaker 4: that movie. If you had asked me five minutes ago
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: if I had watched Prometheus, I would have been like, no,
- 1:14:33Speaker 4: I don't think I have.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: I kind of want to do a whole episode. Then
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: you mentioned the C-section.
- 1:14:37Speaker 4: And I'm like, oh yeah, I saw that.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: I think we need to come back to that one.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: The why is Guy Pearce an old man....
- 1:14:45Speaker 8: Because he's Guy Pearce.
- 1:14:46Speaker 4: Why did it need to be?
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: I mean, it didn't need to be.
- 1:14:49Speaker 11: May I interject?
- 1:14:50Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:14:51Speaker 12: About Guy Pearce?
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:14:52Speaker 8: He doesn't want to be recognizable lately.
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: You notice this?
- 1:14:54Speaker 12: Every movie he appears in, he.
- 1:14:56Speaker 8: Doesn't look like Guy Pearce anymore.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: He doesn't look like Guy Pearce.
- 1:14:58Speaker 8: Look at him in Lawless. Eyebrows shaved, hair slicked back,
- 1:15:02Speaker 8: looking really creepy.
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: Yeah, the whole eyebrows, like the villain shaving their eyebrows
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: is getting a little old. I think that's happened like
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: three too many times.
- 1:15:11Speaker 8: But still, every time I see.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: Guy Pearce, he does not want to be recognized. He
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: dies really, really fast.
- 1:15:16Speaker 4: But I've been not looking like Guy Pearce for years
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: before he started doing it.
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: It's worked for my career to not look like Guy Pearce.
- 1:15:22Speaker 18: No, my girlfriend does not know who Guy Pearce is.
- 1:15:25Speaker 18: I just don't remember what he looked like.
- 1:15:27Speaker 8: I was like, L.A.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: Confidential.
- 1:15:29Speaker 12: She should write his name on her arm.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: She should get a guy piercing. Backwards.
- 1:15:40Speaker 18: There's also the other John Hillcoat movies where Guy Pearce
- 1:15:43Speaker 18: does not look like Guy Pearce in any of them.
- 1:15:45Speaker 18: Not the proposition, not the road where he's at the
- 1:15:48Speaker 18: very end of the movie.
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: Guy Pearce is a weirdo as well. Maybe he's going
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: to do that. Animal Kingdom, he had the Mustache.
- 1:15:59Speaker 8: He was so nice and tame in that one that
- 1:16:01Speaker 8: you couldn't recognize him.
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: He requires some kind of ridiculous facial hair, I guess.
- 1:16:08Speaker 8: So. Where are we?
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: Let's see.
- 1:16:10Speaker 9: Next up, again, from the show that said he kills good,
- 1:16:15Speaker 9: we asked the question, the goodest kill in a film
- 1:16:18Speaker 9: in 2012.
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: Goodest kill.
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: Which, again, most of the votes.
- 1:16:22Speaker 9: Went straight to every racist slave owner in Django Unchained.
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: Django's sort of.
- 1:16:27Speaker 12: Sweeping the boilers this year.
- 1:16:30Speaker 17: The dog wasn't necessarily goodest, but it was.
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: Worstest? It made an impression. Worstest, I think. But this
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: is all the racist.
- 1:16:41Speaker 4: Slave owners, though. Impressionistest.
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: You know, the handshake kill.
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: Was.
- 1:16:49Speaker 12: It catches you off guard.
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: It was rewarding. You know what kind of ruined the impact?
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: That was still a great scene. I feel like it
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: was coming. You know what kind of ruined it for me?
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: Because I knew what was coming was the handshake scene
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: in Drive. Because it was basically the same kind of deal.
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: I actually thought the same thing would happen. I was like,
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: oh fuck, he's going to do the exact same thing.
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: Spoiler alert. Calvin Candy is going to have a razor
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: or some kind of knife hidden in his sleeve and, like,
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: try to kill Schultz. But it was way more badass
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: that Schultz had his tiny Derringer or whatever, like, in
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: his sleeve.
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: For me, in Drive, it didn't feel necessary that he died.
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: It just felt like, well, he didn't think this through
- 1:17:33Speaker 4: very well. He seemed, like, pretty on his game up
- 1:17:36Speaker 4: till now. Now he just seems stupid. He didn't have
- 1:17:39Speaker 4: to die.
- 1:17:39Speaker 8: He could have, like, worked this out.
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:17:42Speaker 8: But it felt like the director.
- 1:17:45Speaker 4: Wants him to die. There was a lot of unnecessary.
- 1:17:48Speaker 17: yeah it didn't.
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: Really work for me i don't know and and it's
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: my intention and i'm never going to get around to
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: it so i'm going to go ahead and say it
- 1:17:59Speaker 4: as if i've done it right to splice in like
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: a a uh GPS talking to him while he's driving.
- 1:18:08Speaker 8: That would be so great. You could just put in
- 1:18:11Speaker 8: that automated voice.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: That's why it's such a great driver.
- 1:18:12Speaker 15: Recalculate.
- 1:18:13Speaker 11: Recalculate.
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: Every time he takes a turn, it's recalculated.
- 1:18:16Speaker 8: When possible, make a legal U-turn.
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: I get that so much. And I swear to God,
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: she sounds so pissed off.
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: Where are you going now?
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: You are at your destination. Please turn around now.
- 1:18:32Speaker 8: When possible.
- 1:18:34Speaker 4: Make a legal U-turn.
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: Continuing on with our proper grammar. Yes.
- 1:18:39Speaker 8: The wrongest actor or actress for a role in 2012. Again,
- 1:18:43Speaker 8: almost like completely unprompted. Everybody came through with the same answer.
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: Snow White.
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: Didn't even have to have it.
- 1:18:49Speaker 8: No, and I can't argue with this one.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: Tyler Perry is Alex Cross.
- 1:18:54Speaker 8: Yeah, because he isn't. Because he isn't.
- 1:18:57Speaker 28: He is not.
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: Rick Reynolds could be is better than Tyler Perry.
- 1:19:01Speaker 4: Tyler Perry's Medea, and that's it. And I still don't
- 1:19:04Speaker 4: know why he was in Star Trek. You also wonder
- 1:19:08Speaker 4: about Tyler Perry because I don't really follow him that much.
- 1:19:11Speaker 4: But I notice, like, as a white person, people draw
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: very strong lines between Wes Anderson movies. Like, some of
- 1:19:22Speaker 4: them are great, and some of them are the worst
- 1:19:24Speaker 4: movies ever made. To me, I don't understand how you
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: can like any of them and not like all of
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: them a little bit.
- 1:19:33Speaker 8: They're all pretty good.
- 1:19:35Speaker 4: And they had this note of elegy for a presumptively
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: white world.
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: All of them did.
- 1:19:41Speaker 12: I saw that with an all-black audience.
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: I don't know what you're talking about. I saw it
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: memorized with an all-black audience.
- 1:19:46Speaker 12: It was actually just me.
- 1:19:48Speaker 8: Jared, and the whole time.
- 1:19:50Speaker 4: Well, I just wonder if black people go to Tyler
- 1:19:53Speaker 4: Perry movies and it's like, well, when Madea did this,
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: I was totally on board. But when Madea did that... No,
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: that was bullshit.
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: So are you saying that Tyler Perry is the black
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: Wes Anderson? I don't know. That's where I thought you
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: were going. That's where I thought that's where you were going.
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: He's going, what?
- 1:20:13Speaker 10: So Medea goes to jail is the black royal tenenbaum.
- 1:20:17Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 1:20:21Speaker 8: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:20:23Speaker 11: But I don't know.
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: I like all Wes Anderson movies, but they're all kind
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: of The same movie.
- 1:20:30Speaker 5: Cool.
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: They're on the cold side. They're a little bit, you know, calculated,
- 1:20:36Speaker 4: and that's great. And, you know, I watched Moonrise Kingdom,
- 1:20:42Speaker 4: and I loved it, but I'm almost so amused I
- 1:20:45Speaker 4: can't care what happens. It's so amusing. It's just, and
- 1:20:50Speaker 4: then there's the house porn. You know, the whole house
- 1:20:54Speaker 4: porn element. I could just stare at the houses. Get
- 1:20:57Speaker 4: those fucking people.
- 1:20:58Speaker 11: Out of the way.
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: I don't care about them.
- 1:21:01Speaker 4: And the story is delightful, but it doesn't grip you
- 1:21:07Speaker 4: like other movies might. Because they're his little chess pieces.
- 1:21:13Speaker 4: He's moving them around, and it's fun. But it's kind
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: of like the greatest... like little magnetic puppet theater you've
- 1:21:21Speaker 4: ever seen.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: Well, the perfect movie for him is Fantastic Mr.
- 1:21:24Speaker 6: Fox.
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: Yeah, literally.
- 1:21:26Speaker 8: Great movie. That's exactly what he got to.
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: Do, finally.
- 1:21:29Speaker 4: Yeah, but you know, you can't deny that like his,
- 1:21:33Speaker 4: like Bottle Rocket, that kind of kills you, doesn't it?
- 1:21:39Speaker 4: It kind of kills you.
- 1:21:41Speaker 8: It's a good story.
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: It's just the way he does it is so cool
- 1:21:46Speaker 4: and so distant and I don't know. Everybody rags on
- 1:21:52Speaker 4: Life Aquatic. But man, I grew up watching Jacques Cousteau.
- 1:21:58Speaker 4: Jacques Cousteau was my introduction to moral relativity because I
- 1:22:03Speaker 4: thought it was Jacques who stole as a child when
- 1:22:08Speaker 4: I was like three or four. And I'm like, well,
- 1:22:11Speaker 4: I guess he was a criminal. But now he's made
- 1:22:14Speaker 4: a life for himself on the open seas. And people
- 1:22:18Speaker 4: seem okay with it. And I figured he was like
- 1:22:21Speaker 4: a pirate or something. And he was always looking for treasure.
- 1:22:25Speaker 4: He was Jacques Cousteau. And he's marked for life. You know,
- 1:22:29Speaker 4: it's like branded.
- 1:22:30Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:22:32Speaker 8: What do you do when you're branded?
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: Join the Navy?
- 1:22:35Speaker 4: Yeah. He was innocent. Not a charge was true. But
- 1:22:42Speaker 4: that's what I thought Jacques Cousteau was. And then I
- 1:22:44Speaker 4: watched this movie, and I don't know, everybody hates it,
- 1:22:47Speaker 4: but I think it's so funny. When he says, like,
- 1:22:49Speaker 4: what would be, when they ask him what would be
- 1:22:51Speaker 4: the point of the, he's like, revenge.
- 1:22:56Speaker 8: Come on, that's not funny.
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: Are you kidding me?
- 1:22:59Speaker 8: How is that not funny? That's funny. I don't know. Anyway,
- 1:23:04Speaker 8: I like all of.
- 1:23:05Speaker 4: Them a little bit. You can pick and choose among
- 1:23:08Speaker 4: them all you want. But they're all Wes Anderson movies
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: to me.
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: Has there been a Wes Anderson movie that's been nominated
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: for Best Picture?
- 1:23:17Speaker 11: Has there? No. No, never happened.
- 1:23:21Speaker 10: You know, I'm surprised they didn't do it with Moonrise
- 1:23:23Speaker 10: Kingdom this year.
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: It seemed like if there ever was going to be
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: a Wes Anderson movie nominated for Best Picture, it would
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: have been this one.
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: And so Norman Rockwell. But every scene in it has
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: some little gesture that reminds you how good a filmmaker
- 1:23:40Speaker 4: he is. He just can't stop himself from telling you,
- 1:23:44Speaker 4: I am a fucking good filmmaker. And that's not good.
- 1:23:48Speaker 4: That's not really a great thing to have in a movie.
- 1:23:52Speaker 4: As a filmmaker, he keeps poking you like he's on Facebook.
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: Remember what a great fucking filmmaker I am? He can't
- 1:24:00Speaker 4: get through a single continuous shot. Without going, look at that.
- 1:24:05Speaker 6: Wasn't that cool?
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: You could argue that about Tarantino. But he's also right.
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: But Tarantino's a little bit more like, what's his name?
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: John Malkovich. Because you watch John Malkovich as an actor,
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: and you can tell he's good, and you can tell.
- 1:24:24Speaker 8: He knows he's good.
- 1:24:26Speaker 4: But somehow it doesn't break you out of, it doesn't
- 1:24:29Speaker 4: ruin it.
- 1:24:29Speaker 10: I was going to say, when it comes to Tarantino,
- 1:24:32Speaker 10: it feels more like self-parody.
- 1:24:34Speaker 4: Than it does with.
- 1:24:35Speaker 8: It's like he can.
- 1:24:36Speaker 4: Be a show-off and be vulnerable at the same time.
- 1:24:39Speaker 28: Yeah.
- 1:24:40Speaker 4: Kind of like when Tina Fey makes fun of somebody.
- 1:24:43Speaker 4: She's like, I'm making fun of somebody. I'm going out
- 1:24:47Speaker 4: on a limb here. And so you give it to her.
- 1:24:50Speaker 4: Whereas other people are just being bitchy and you go,
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: I'm not giving that to you. You're not asking me.
- 1:24:57Speaker 4: And here's the thing about Les Mis. I haven't seen
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: the movie, but I'm going to condemn it to hellfire anyway.
- 1:25:04Speaker 8: I have not seen it.
- 1:25:05Speaker 4: I've seen the stage play, but the story fucking twists
- 1:25:09Speaker 4: your arm to care about the characters. Guy stole bread
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: and he went into jail for 19 years.
- 1:25:18Speaker 8: I give. Uncle.
- 1:25:20Speaker 6: Whatever.
- 1:25:20Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: It's like it's not going to just let you care
- 1:25:24Speaker 4: on your own merit. It's going to say, no, goddammit,
- 1:25:27Speaker 4: you have to care. Goddammit, we're going to keep piling
- 1:25:30Speaker 4: this on. You cannot walk out of this theater without
- 1:25:34Speaker 4: caring about this motherfucking shit. And then I start to rebel.
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: Then I start to go, well, now I don't care.
- 1:25:43Speaker 4: And then he goes to, like, who's the guy who's
- 1:25:45Speaker 4: going to steal the silver? And the guy says, oh,
- 1:25:47Speaker 4: we'll take this too. And I know how that is,
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: because you hate to break up a set. Like, somebody
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: stole a power drill off my back porch. And I'm like, dude,
- 1:26:01Speaker 4: the thing has a charger and a battery. You've got
- 1:26:04Speaker 4: a very clumsy screwdriver.
- 1:26:07Speaker 12: And you left me.
- 1:26:08Speaker 8: No address to forward the shit you need. I don't know.
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: I don't know about Les Miserables. I just don't see
- 1:26:17Speaker 4: myself seeing it in a big hurry. And that's kind
- 1:26:21Speaker 4: of how I felt about people on this show have
- 1:26:24Speaker 4: debated Perks of Being a Wallflower. But I kind of
- 1:26:29Speaker 4: feel like Perks of Being a Wallflower is not a
- 1:26:31Speaker 4: very honest movie. It's not very honest. It's not coming clean.
- 1:26:36Speaker 4: It's like, oh, you feel bad for the guy about
- 1:26:39Speaker 4: his aunt because she died. And right when you're getting
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: over that, oh, and she abused him. So there's that too.
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: And then he's writing a letter to who?
- 1:26:51Speaker 8: Who the fuck is he writing to? You don't know.
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: They don't care.
- 1:26:54Speaker 8: It's a device.
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: He's writing a letter to you. Exactly.
- 1:26:58Speaker 4: He's narrating it to us, but it's not us. He's
- 1:27:03Speaker 4: going to use a misdirection. Instead of just narrating the
- 1:27:07Speaker 4: story to us, the viewer, it's like, no, no, I'm
- 1:27:11Speaker 4: narrating it to some other person who goes to a
- 1:27:15Speaker 4: different school. You don't know them. But in a way,
- 1:27:19Speaker 4: it's kind of bullshit, but it's also kind of the
- 1:27:21Speaker 4: mark of authenticity, because damaged people, like sincerely damaged people,
- 1:27:27Speaker 4: do shit like that. But it doesn't really capture, like,
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: when the girl he's obsessed with is going upstairs with
- 1:27:36Speaker 4: another guy, it doesn't capture how fucking awful that really is.
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: It just doesn't begin to even know And many other
- 1:27:47Speaker 4: things do. Like, my so-called life is so much better
- 1:27:50Speaker 4: at the agony of being in high school than Perks
- 1:27:54Speaker 4: of Being a Wallflower is. Perks of Being a Wallflower
- 1:27:57Speaker 4: is kind of like, yeah, it's bad, but look.
- 1:28:00Speaker 8: Everything's cool.
- 1:28:02Speaker 4: Nothing is cool about my so-called life. Yeah, and people
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: love you. Everybody loves you.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: All of a sudden. I don't know. There's something about
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: it that.
- 1:28:12Speaker 8: Don't add up.
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: It was kind of really weird how, like, shoehorn like
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: how like their whole basically his initiation into like you
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: know becoming their friends like they were just like oh
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: we'll take him to this party they weren't really hanging
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: out with him but he's like my best friend killed
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: him killed themselves and they're and she's just like he
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: just told me his best friend's killed himself that's fucked
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: up no like we gotta be his friend now and
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: now like that's like that's like the turning point like
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: oh shit like okay that's what it takes and then
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: like yeah like you said the rest of the movie
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: is like really happy and cheerful and then all of
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: a sudden there's this like weird twist with his aunt
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: which I didn't even know there was an aunt my.
- 1:28:49Speaker 4: Wife read the book and she's watching the movie we
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: get to the end and I'm like wait I'm getting
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: a weird vibe here did she molest him and my
- 1:28:56Speaker 4: wife is like I don't know You read the book,
- 1:28:59Speaker 4: wouldn't you? No, it didn't stand out, really.
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: Even the scenes foreshadowed where it's flashing back to where
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: he's a kid. I didn't even know those were flashbacks.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: I thought they were just really bad disjointed scenes of
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: his siblings or something. He had a younger brother. I
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: was like, oh, that was him? I thought that was
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: just a misplaced... It was weird.
- 1:29:20Speaker 11: I don't know.
- 1:29:21Speaker 4: It was odd, but it was a good movie in
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: its way. In some ways, I think it's for real,
- 1:29:26Speaker 4: but it's kind of fucked up at the same time.
- 1:29:29Speaker 4: And I feel really bad because I voted for Emma
- 1:29:32Speaker 4: Watson as hottest actress and I watched the movie and
- 1:29:34Speaker 4: I was like, she's 12! She's fucking 12 in this movie.
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: And that's what you like. Yeah, right.
- 1:29:41Speaker 15: Well, we're not that far yet.
- 1:29:44Speaker 8: Right. We're still at CGI now.
- 1:29:48Speaker 9: We're at the most obnoxious use of CGI in a
- 1:29:52Speaker 9: 2012 film. And I believe the person who sent this
- 1:29:55Speaker 9: in specifically worded.
- 1:29:56Speaker 28: It as.
- 1:29:58Speaker 8: Twilight, Breaking Dawn part, who gives a fuck?
- 1:30:01Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: And the specific was digital baby face.
- 1:30:06Speaker 4: Oh, God.
- 1:30:07Speaker 9: Yep.
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: Digital baby face. I think that's okay.
- 1:30:11Speaker 4: You've got the cutest little digital baby face.
- 1:30:18Speaker 8: Oh, I do think this needs to be in more
- 1:30:19Speaker 8: shows because there's something about having a good villain in
- 1:30:22Speaker 8: your movie. So the best villain of a 2012 film.
- 1:30:26Speaker 4: My vote is not Javier Bardem.
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: Well, you sort of didn't win.
- 1:30:32Speaker 14: Oh.
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: It's actually a tie. He's one of the two.
- 1:30:35Speaker 8: I think it's between him and Calvin Candy.
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: Both of which, I don't know, I.
- 1:30:41Speaker 4: Still, again. I think I voted for Calvin Candy without
- 1:30:45Speaker 4: seeing the movie.
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: Stephen didn't count?
- 1:30:48Speaker 8: Samuel L.
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: Jackson.
- 1:30:50Speaker 8: Is he not more evil than Calvin Candy?
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: I'd say he's more evil than Calvin Candy.
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: Nobody. Nobody with Steven. He got mentioned a couple other times,
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: but not that one. I hated him more than Candy.
- 1:31:05Speaker 9: Yeah, because he seems like, if anybody, Candy has deluded himself.
- 1:31:10Speaker 12: Yeah, he's a little bit clueless. He's stupid.
- 1:31:12Speaker 8: Yeah, whereas Steven knows better.
- 1:31:15Speaker 4: If anything, you almost feel like he's manipulating Candy to
- 1:31:18Speaker 4: an extent.
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely.
- 1:31:19Speaker 8: By the end of it, you realize he is.
- 1:31:21Speaker 4: I just voted against Bardem because he didn't do the
- 1:31:24Speaker 4: cool stuff you see a villain do. And he was
- 1:31:28Speaker 4: trying to be like a Joker-like, larger-than-life villain, and it
- 1:31:32Speaker 4: just didn't add up. All he did was like, shoot
- 1:31:37Speaker 4: a woman in the head. William Burroughs did that to
- 1:31:41Speaker 4: his wife.
- 1:31:42Speaker 8: That's nothing.
- 1:31:47Speaker 4: That's like when you find out what the initiation is
- 1:31:51Speaker 4: for being in the Hells Angels.
- 1:31:53Speaker 11: It's like, you pussies.
- 1:31:55Speaker 8: I've done that.
- 1:31:56Speaker 4: I never thought twice about it.
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 1:32:00Speaker 8: From villain to monsters. Once again, monsters.
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: Kristen Stewart.
- 1:32:05Speaker 8: So the best monster, and that was my favorite, is
- 1:32:07Speaker 8: that someone nominated Kristen Stewart as best monster.
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: Didn't win, but that was probably my favorite. Definitely in
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: that category, that was my favorite nomination. Oddly enough, Merman
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: from Cabin in the Woods.
- 1:32:19Speaker 10: Huh.
- 1:32:20Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: That was cool. Everybody liked that one.
- 1:32:23Speaker 4: That was cool.
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: Monster moment.
- 1:32:24Speaker 12: Everybody liked that one.
- 1:32:27Speaker 11: Oh, let's see.
- 1:32:28Speaker 13: Ooh.
- 1:32:28Speaker 9: Round out this half here with the one that I
- 1:32:31Speaker 9: think is a little too trendy.
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: It's not my doing, people.
- 1:32:36Speaker 8: I only asked for you guys to come up with
- 1:32:38Speaker 8: one official new category.
- 1:32:39Speaker 4: I think it was really Brian's doing.
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: I think it was Alan.
- 1:32:43Speaker 8: I think it was.
- 1:32:44Speaker 12: He's not here.
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: Let's blame Alan.
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: Alan. Alan.
- 1:32:47Speaker 8: I do like the wording, though.
- 1:32:48Speaker 11: But really, Brian.
- 1:32:49Speaker 8: Best supporting mustache in 2012. Oh, yeah.
- 1:32:53Speaker 12: So, I don't know.
- 1:32:54Speaker 8: I mean, and actually, it seems to me the people voted.
- 1:32:57Speaker 4: Did Burt Reynolds' Lifetime Achievement. No, that's either that or
- 1:33:01Speaker 4: Adam West and Hooper. This is going.
- 1:33:04Speaker 8: To make the hipsters that live a couple doors down
- 1:33:06Speaker 8: from you happy.
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: I'm sorry, the douchebags.
- 1:33:09Speaker 8: The douchebags, yeah.
- 1:33:10Speaker 9: But obviously the people at home don't care either because,
- 1:33:13Speaker 9: once again, it tied and half of the votes went to.
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: I have mustache blindness.
- 1:33:17Speaker 8: So, that's my vote too, really.
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: But I think we need to retire this one already.
- 1:33:22Speaker 9: The other tie half here was Zach Galifianakis in the campaign.
- 1:33:28Speaker 9: I think just because that's the way he always looks, really.
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: He's just sort of always like that.
- 1:33:32Speaker 4: With this kind of cast, the show was bound to
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: come off with or without a director. But I thank
