- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Hey man, how's it going?
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: It is Thursday, Thursday, week one, college football.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: Let's go.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: Let's go.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: Let's do it.
- 0:48SPEAKER_03: We are going to see live football today that is happening in real life.
- 0:52SPEAKER_03: Um, we feel like it's been a long, long offseason.
- 0:55SPEAKER_03: Uh, today's show, we're gonna talk about week one games, games that you should pay attention to.
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: Um, we'll try to do this every week.
- 1:00SPEAKER_03: We'll probably do a uh usually it'll be a what happened what's happening, what you need to watch, and what happened the previous week.
- 1:06SPEAKER_03: So this is the first show.
- 1:07SPEAKER_03: We kind of already talked about week zero.
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: Anything else you want to add about SMU or Florida State, Georgia Tech?
- 1:12SPEAKER_03: Anything of that?
- 1:13SPEAKER_02: No, we talked we talked to Florida State.
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: The big thing moving forward is gonna be how good is is Georgia Tech?
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: Can Florida State recover?
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: What does their season look like?
- 1:22SPEAKER_02: Um, because they still have everything in front of them uh for all intents and purposes.
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: They still can win the ACC.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, they can still make the college football playoff.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, do they have what it takes?
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: Was it a fluke?
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we'll see.
- 1:36SPEAKER_03: We will see we will see.
- 1:37SPEAKER_03: We'll see.
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: Well, before we do that, let's go ahead and do a uh a story old as time tradition here at the Mike Blitz.
- 1:43SPEAKER_03: What you drank it, and actually today we're actually drinking beers together.
- 1:46SPEAKER_03: I am drinking a cerveza, uh a modelo especial 1925.
- 1:51SPEAKER_03: Um, it's crisp, it's light, it's refreshing, it's brewed in Mexico.
- 1:55SPEAKER_03: Um, what are you drinking?
- 1:56SPEAKER_03: I am drinking one from your fridge.
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: So I've got the same thing.
- 1:59SPEAKER_02: Thanks, bud.
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: Oh, very cool, absolutely.
- 2:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and come down anytime.
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: Any guys, any of you want to come, listeners want to come by my house, have a modelo with Mike and I, you're welcome to anytime.
- 2:07SPEAKER_03: Very cool.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: Uh, quick check-in.
- 2:09SPEAKER_03: Uh, what's new?
- 2:10SPEAKER_03: Anything happened?
- 2:11SPEAKER_03: I mean, we actually recorded like three days ago.
- 2:13SPEAKER_03: Anything new?
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we took it on a on a on a heater as far as recording goes.
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: We've jam-packed what, like three episodes in the last like week or so.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: It's kind of I really hope that you've all been been caught up on everything coming at you fast and hard.
- 2:25SPEAKER_03: It's really true.
- 2:26SPEAKER_03: It's true.
- 2:26SPEAKER_03: So if you haven't, you'll all all those podcasts are still up in uh uh Wingship Podcast, uh, Apple Spotify, uh, Stitcher, all those good things.
- 2:34SPEAKER_03: Um, I saw the Connor Stallions doc.
- 2:36SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, we wanted to talk about this.
- 2:37SPEAKER_03: I haven't seen it yet.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: So let's do like a quick fresh uh Yeah, yeah.
- 2:41SPEAKER_03: So Connor Stallion Doc, those those you don't know, it's on Netflix, came out a couple days ago.
- 2:45SPEAKER_03: Michigan cheating scandal.
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: Connor Stallions was the Navy, uh Navy grad who uh got hired by Michigan as an off-field analyst.
- 2:52SPEAKER_03: His job was quite literally to steal the signs from the other teams, which is allowed.
- 2:58SPEAKER_03: Um, but there are a set of rules on things you can do involving technology, the ways you do it, how advanced you do it, and Connor Stallions flirted with those lines and sometimes egregiously crossed them.
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: Sometimes fairly often.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: Sometimes for context, I know most people already know this, but he's also like a Michigan freak.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: Yes, like we consider ourselves super fans, and this guy would put us to shame.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: He wrote himself like a manifesto thousands of pages, yes, on how to become a Michigan legend, essentially.
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: Um, he would quite literally go to he would stop at no lengths to to make Michigan football a national champion.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: And he did, he did.
- 3:37SPEAKER_03: It actually worked out for him.
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: Uh, he is now a defensive coordinator for a high school team in the greater Detroit area, so he's still somewhat local.
- 3:43SPEAKER_03: But anyway, it's good watching.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: It's on, it's out on it's out now if you have Netflix.
- 3:47SPEAKER_03: It's a good football story, but honestly, the real content anybody who actually wants to watch is actual football.
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, instead of hearing football stories, we can talk about actual football.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: We also thought that this was appropriately timed to come out right when the heat was getting turned back up on Michigan after essentially a story that was going away.
- 4:05SPEAKER_02: So we were interested to see if there would be some new intel, some new things broken.
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: And apparently there was.
- 4:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, I saw it, I watched it, but we have to remember, I mean, Jim Harbaugh was already asked to sit out a number of games.
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: So, like, he's kind of already been punished, and all the things in the court of public opinion, like it is common sense.
- 4:22SPEAKER_03: Like, yeah, he probably cheated, but how much they can actually prove, how much they can take in front of the NCAA with actually hard and fast evidence, I don't know.
- 4:30SPEAKER_03: So, my gut instinct says this probably goes away, probably nothing, but it's an interesting story, nothing else.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: And now it's all for moot because now they all have headsets, so yeah, and sports fans are quick to move on to the next page, especially when that sport is ramping up again.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: So, like, whether the NCAA says that national championship doesn't exist anymore, like real fans, we saw it happen.
- 4:56SPEAKER_02: We don't care, it's over.
- 4:57SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, what's actually gonna come of this?
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, except for a besides a black guy.
- 5:03SPEAKER_03: Uh, very good.
- 5:04SPEAKER_03: So, like I said, if you have Netflix, check it out.
- 5:06SPEAKER_03: All right, let's talk about some week one previews.
- 5:07SPEAKER_03: Well, we'd like to do the show.
- 5:08SPEAKER_03: Mike and I are gonna highlight some of the games that most people care about in general game, the headlining ranked matches to power four.
- 5:14SPEAKER_03: We'll talk about some homers and we'll throw some just other stuff at you that we think is interesting.
- 5:18SPEAKER_03: Uh, but let's go ahead and start chronologically.
- 5:19SPEAKER_03: We'll start with Thursday tonight.
- 5:21SPEAKER_03: Tonight.
- 5:21SPEAKER_03: Tonight.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: By the time you listen to this, you will already know the eight.
- 5:25SPEAKER_03: Maybe maybe we'll see if we can get this out.
- 5:27SPEAKER_03: Uh, North Dakota State at Colorado.
- 5:29SPEAKER_03: Uh, time of recording.
- 5:30SPEAKER_03: They were about minus nine and a half.
- 5:32SPEAKER_03: It's gonna get eight o'clock tonight.
- 5:33SPEAKER_03: It's at Folsom Fields.
- 5:35SPEAKER_03: Um, the horns nest that is Folsom Field, Colorado.
- 5:37SPEAKER_03: This is Dion's show.
- 5:38SPEAKER_03: This is Dion on the camera.
- 5:40SPEAKER_03: All eyes are probably gonna be on him.
- 5:42SPEAKER_03: Most some folks will watch Minnesota, North Carolina, but most folks are chants on him.
- 5:46SPEAKER_03: North Dakota State is the perennial power for a long time.
- 5:49SPEAKER_03: They're really good.
- 5:50SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 5:50SPEAKER_03: Um, what's your what do you got?
- 5:52SPEAKER_03: What'd you take?
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: I think that Colorado covers this pretty easily.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: Um, it's at home.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: You know, this is a one of the most winnable games on their schedule.
- 6:02SPEAKER_02: And I think that their their star players do too much for North Dakota State.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: It's I think it's it's pretty simple.
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be one of the times when they're kind of in the prime spotlight and they deserve to be, and they're gonna show up and show out, and everyone's gonna be super excited again about Colorado.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: And then as we get further along the season, uh they're proven to be fool's goal.
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: Colorado at the front line, we talked about this last week.
- 6:25SPEAKER_03: You know, Shadur Sanders is NFL back.
- 6:27SPEAKER_03: Travis Hunter's one of the best players in college football.
- 6:28SPEAKER_03: And when they are at their healthiest, which is week one, they will never be healthier than they are right now, with out being channeled for the depth.
- 6:34SPEAKER_03: They're really good.
- 6:35SPEAKER_03: And they're, I think I should think they're a pretty good team.
- 6:37SPEAKER_03: I expect them to kind of roll over this as well.
- 6:39SPEAKER_03: No disrespect to the bison of North Dakota State, the Fargo dome.
- 6:42SPEAKER_03: I know you guys are really great.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: Um, got a lot of loyal listeners out there.
- 6:46SPEAKER_03: A lot of loyal listeners out there at Fargo.
- 6:48SPEAKER_03: Um, but this is this has got Kyle Runner written all over them.
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: But I'm looking forward to seeing uh Dion because honestly, this is more this is the most attention I'll probably give them all season.
- 6:55SPEAKER_02: That's what kind of uh we're gonna continue to give them attention just because Dion's gonna keep running his mouth, and they do have a couple really, really talented players.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: Uh, but yeah, they'll be one and oh.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: Undefeated.
- 7:05SPEAKER_03: That's what we're looking at.
- 7:06SPEAKER_03: So Mike and I both like them to cover.
- 7:08SPEAKER_03: Uh started high noon.
- 7:09SPEAKER_03: So we're gonna profile four of the biggest games plus the Homers.
- 7:12SPEAKER_03: Uh, high noon on Saturday, Clemson at Georgia.
- 7:17SPEAKER_03: Georgia's minus 14.
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: This game is in Atlanta, I believe.
- 7:20SPEAKER_03: That's worth being played.
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think so.
- 7:22SPEAKER_03: Uh uh, Colorado's a 14-point favorite.
- 7:25SPEAKER_03: Look, I uh Georgia is a 14-point favorite.
- 7:28SPEAKER_03: Georgia is my pick to win the national championship.
- 7:30SPEAKER_03: I do think the best team in the country.
- 7:31SPEAKER_03: I do think the best quarterback, I think they have the best coach.
- 7:33SPEAKER_03: That all said, give me Clemson in those points.
- 7:36SPEAKER_03: I think I think this game is a classic spot for week one weirdness.
- 7:40SPEAKER_03: Um, and Colorado, I mean, Clemson has a lot of talented on their roster.
- 7:45SPEAKER_03: Their defense is going to be good.
- 7:46SPEAKER_03: I think Kate Klubnick is going to do enough things to keep it close.
- 7:50SPEAKER_03: Georgia, I expect to only get better as the season goes on, the way the way they are, they're built with depth.
- 7:56SPEAKER_03: And I'm not sure in this week one they're gonna show all their cards.
- 7:58SPEAKER_03: I'm not sure they're gonna need to.
- 7:59SPEAKER_03: I'm not sure Clemson's gonna be dynamic on offense, but with this with two teams with this many four and five stars, I'm gonna go ahead and take the points.
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: Give me two touchdowns.
- 8:07SPEAKER_03: I'll take Clemson plus four teams.
- 8:09SPEAKER_02: Um, good take.
- 8:10SPEAKER_02: We have been um on the bandwagon to dunk on Clemson for a long time.
- 8:15SPEAKER_02: Uh, but so let's not forget that they still have one of the composite top five rosters in college football.
- 8:22SPEAKER_02: So the talent is still all over the field.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: The big question for me is it wasn't answered at all last year.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: Like, will Kate Klubnick live up to the to his hype as a as a as a high schooler?
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think it's a re- I think it's a recovery expectation because he certainly hasn't yet, but he's got a pretty reasonably high floor in terms of what he's gonna do.
- 8:43SPEAKER_03: Um, I think they really like I hear a lot of good things about their wide receivers are really like the offensive line seems to got better, and we know they're gonna play defense.
- 8:49SPEAKER_03: They're always really, really good at defense.
- 8:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think this game, I think if I'm Dabo, I think he's gonna shorten this game as much as possible, limit possessions, try and take his time, maybe eat up clock.
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: That's why I just don't think Georgia's gonna have enough time to build that big of a lead.
- 9:03SPEAKER_03: So uh I got Clemson with a plus 14.
- 9:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I could see I could see Georgia, I could see Georgia making this a blowout, but I could also see Clemson keeping it pretty close.
- 9:13SPEAKER_02: I don't see a world where Clemson wins this game.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: Uh, so I'm not gonna confidently say Georgia to Georgia to cover or uh Clemson to uh cover, uh, but I could confidently say that I like Georgia to win.
- 9:27SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay.
- 9:28SPEAKER_03: All right, let's keep it moving.
- 9:29SPEAKER_03: Also at noon, uh Penn State University is going to Morgantown.
- 9:33SPEAKER_03: They're playing the West Virginia Mountaineers, the Mayors at noon on Saturday.
- 9:38SPEAKER_03: Things that you probably already know about this game.
- 9:40SPEAKER_03: West Virginia is a Big 12 team, top half, hasn't been great for a while, but Neil Brown had a pretty good year with him.
- 9:47SPEAKER_03: Penn State is a perennial 10-2 team, top 10.
- 9:51SPEAKER_03: James Franklin's a pretty good coach.
- 9:53SPEAKER_03: They're doing well, there's they're they've been good enough to win a lot of games, except for Michigan, Ohio State.
- 9:58SPEAKER_03: Uh they're gonna play really good defense.
- 10:00SPEAKER_03: What you don't know is about probably is Penn State's new offensive coordinator, Anthony Coltonickey.
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: Coltonickey comes over from Kansas, really, really good job there.
- 10:08SPEAKER_03: Penn State last year just wasn't good enough on offense.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: They had Jewel R, they had all the talent, and they just weren't better.
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: So they hired him, they fired the old guy, brought in the new guy.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: And the question is how quickly can he make Penn State's offense look different?
- 10:22SPEAKER_03: They still have Nick Singleton and K-Tron Allen, which is probably the best running back tandem outside of Columbus, Ohio.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: Um, so I'm expecting what I want to know.
- 10:31SPEAKER_03: The point is, what we're gonna try what I'm trying to say is I want to know what Penn State's offense looks like in this game.
- 10:37SPEAKER_03: Is it is it a true departure from what we've seen at James Franklin offense this last couple years?
- 11:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the the joke amongst Penn State fans last year uh was basically are we ever gonna throw it down the field?
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: Are we ever gonna see like a big play?
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: Are we gonna take any deep shots?
- 11:30SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 11:30SPEAKER_02: Colt Nicky was was part of that uh life hold kind of offensive uh thinking, very creative.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: Uh a lot of big plays.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: Uh, they should see an immediate boost in their offensive production.
- 11:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: Uh I don't think West Virginia has the horses to hang with Penn State.
- 11:47SPEAKER_02: I mean, you think um about Neil Brown was on a hot seat just a year ago.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: Sure was.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: West Virginia is a tough place to play.
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: It truly is a hornet's nest.
- 11:55SPEAKER_02: Yes, it really is.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:57SPEAKER_02: We've got friends, uh we've got tales of uh a Thomas Wingabach playing uh offensive line and getting batteries showered down on him.
- 12:05SPEAKER_03: There's part of me that wishes this was a night game just because it's it's you know, obviously those campuses have more juice than nighttime, but I mean it's still gonna be.
- 12:12SPEAKER_03: I have they've been waiting for this game for eight, nine months.
- 12:15SPEAKER_03: I mean, the folks in Morgantown are gonna be jacked up.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: Um, but I still take I like Penn State to cover.
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: It's a small number.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: It's almost like a a like a it gives you pause, it's such a small number.
- 12:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, obviously I think for a week one.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: I think it's week one.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: I mean, the question is I mean, I I don't think anybody argues that Penn State's a better roster, better team, more talent.
- 12:34SPEAKER_03: The question is, is how quickly can this offensive change be enough?
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: And even if it's not, like even if it's not, even if it still looks the same and this new off-spring is not gonna make a difference, like they're still just gonna out-talent them and push them around.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: They still have talent in their 2D that that it that betters what West Virginia has on their roster.
- 12:50SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: I might be a sucker, but I would throw money on that on that eight points easily without thought.
- 12:56SPEAKER_03: All right, so far we're picking two teams to cover, two favorites.
- 12:59SPEAKER_03: I don't know, it's not a good number.
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: Let's keep it rolling.
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: All right, 3:30 game.
- 13:03SPEAKER_03: Uh the Miami Hurricanes, the Canes, minus two and a half on the roads at the at the swamp, the Gators, Florida Gators, my son's a gator for preschool.
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: That came is 3:30 Eastern on Saturday.
- 13:15SPEAKER_03: Um, it's going to be unbelievably hot.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: And humid, more importantly.
- 13:19SPEAKER_03: Unbelievably humid.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: I, you know, like is I have thrown up in my mouth at Benny Hill Griffith Stadium because of the humidity.
- 13:26SPEAKER_03: Different kind of dehydration, I imagine you were playing too.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: I wasn't, yeah, I was not on the athletic field.
- 13:32SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 13:32SPEAKER_03: So uh uh it's gonna be really, really hot, it's really warm.
- 13:35SPEAKER_03: Um, Florida needs this game.
- 13:36SPEAKER_03: As we we've already talked about last week, the hot seat.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: Billy Napir's, these Florida Gagers have an incredibly difficult schedule.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: This is kind of a game they bring.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: This is huge.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: This is a swing game, and it kind of has to have it.
- 13:45SPEAKER_03: It's at home at the swamp.
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: I don't love this, but I don't think I'm gonna take the gators.
- 13:50SPEAKER_03: I kind of think just I think that stadium is just brutal to play in.
- 13:52SPEAKER_03: I think the heat is gonna be substantial.
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: And honestly, I just don't, as good as Miami is, and I think Miami's gonna win a lot of games, their schedule sets up to be nine and three at worst, maybe better.
- 14:02SPEAKER_03: Um, I just don't think they are, I don't have the faith in Crystal Ball to have them ready to go into such a hostile environment against the Florida.
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: And I think honestly, Billy Napier is going to throw every trick he has.
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: Both of these coaching staff's backs are against the wall, they need results, they need them now.
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, The Swamp is, without a doubt, one of the toughest places to play.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: And every year they have some top 10 team come in town, and everyone thinks that a bad Florida team is gonna roll over, and you look at the fourth quarter, and you know, it's it's close, or it's always a weird game.
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: And even though I have predicted Florida to lose a bunch of games this year and Billy Napier to you know go down the drain, um, yeah, this is a this is one that just really gives you pause at two and a half points.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: I do think some fluky things happen.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: I do think Miami bringing in a lot of uh portal players, it's gonna take some time to to to gel into mesh.
- 15:04SPEAKER_02: Kram Mertz from Florida, their quarterback, actually really good last year.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: He's solid, solid quarterback.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I do think this is a weird one.
- 15:13SPEAKER_02: And uh if I could have it both ways, Miami wins but doesn't cover.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: But I kind of like Florida to keep this close and maybe pull out the win.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's what so I was convinced two years ago when uh Utah and Cam Ward went went down there and they lost, they were eight-point favorites, I think, in that game.
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: I mean, that was a very good Utah team.
- 15:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it was a very good Utah team.
- 15:34SPEAKER_03: And Anthony Richardson, who I'm still not that high on, they they won that game.
- 15:38SPEAKER_03: I just I mean, that game in the swamp, brutal environment.
- 15:42SPEAKER_03: I'm just I'm taking the home dog week one.
- 15:44SPEAKER_03: Too much, too much, too many offseason question marks that we have that we think we know about Miami.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: Just I'm not ready to because all that has to happen immediately.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 15:53SPEAKER_02: And yeah, I I hate to do it, but yeah, I agree with you.
- 15:56SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna take Florida win, but the play I actually really love is actually the under.
- 15:58SPEAKER_03: The over-under of this game is 54 and a half points.
- 16:01SPEAKER_03: I think it's gonna be hot as all get out.
- 16:03SPEAKER_03: I think the offenses are gonna be sluggish, not crisp, not running big bombs down the field.
- 16:08SPEAKER_03: I like that.
- 16:09SPEAKER_03: I like this score of this game to be like a 21-17, actually.
- 16:12SPEAKER_03: 24-21 puts it to 45.
- 16:14SPEAKER_03: Over under 54 and a half, give me the uh give me the under.
- 16:17SPEAKER_03: Good play.
- 16:17SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: All right, moving on to what I think is actually gonna be the best game of the day.
- 16:21SPEAKER_03: Notre Dame at Texas AM, Texas AM's uh minus three points.
- 16:25SPEAKER_03: This game is 730.
- 16:26SPEAKER_03: This game is in Kyle Station, the 12th man, Kyle Fields.
- 16:29SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm just gonna jump right in and say it.
- 16:32SPEAKER_03: I like Texas AM all over Notre Dame this week.
- 16:36SPEAKER_03: Uh, so things you might not know about uh Notre Dame.
- 16:38SPEAKER_03: Notre Dame had a phenomenal offensive line.
- 16:40SPEAKER_03: Uh they lost some guys.
- 16:41SPEAKER_03: Joe All obviously went to the top five of the NFL.
- 16:43SPEAKER_03: They're starting left tackle, went down with a season injury in camp.
- 16:46SPEAKER_03: Texas AM has one of, if not the best defensive lines in college football up there with Michigan, Tennessee, Georgia, and a few other schools.
- 16:54SPEAKER_03: Very, very, very good up front, even with the departure of Walter Nolan, who is currently at Ole Miss.
- 17:00SPEAKER_03: I think there's gonna, I think on the road in a crazy loud place with 120,000 cadets, whatever it is that they see at that stadium.
- 17:10SPEAKER_03: Um, this is just not a good spot for Notre Dame.
- 17:12SPEAKER_03: Um, I like the quarterback, I like Riley Leonard.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: I think Marcus Freeman's a good coach.
- 17:17SPEAKER_03: I just like Mike Elko more.
- 17:18SPEAKER_03: I like Mike Elko, that defense, I think it's a flying specifically.
- 17:22SPEAKER_03: Just I think they're just gonna bulldoze what Notre Dame has up front.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I a hundred percent agree with you.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: One of the big storylines for this one is Mike Elko, former Duke coach, now at Texas AM, Riley Leonard, former Duke quarterback, who had the success with Mike Elko now at Notre Dame.
- 17:42SPEAKER_02: So former coach playing, former quarterback, and I love the edge to go to Mike Elko.
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: Uh he did so much at Duke with so little talent, and he's going into AM, and the cupboard is stocked.
- 17:56SPEAKER_02: They have like a top 10 uh talent, top 10 roster uh in the country.
- 18:01SPEAKER_02: They've recruited lights out every year.
- 18:03SPEAKER_02: They they even though they lost players, yeah, they're they're still super talented.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: And Notre Dame, as good as they've been, um, I just don't see them walking into that environment uh week one and coming out successful.
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: I I I love Anim in this one.
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: I still think AM has a long way to go looking down the road, yeah, but I think they pull this one this one out and then maybe fall off.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: My question to you is if Notre Dame loses this game, what are their what does that do to their playoff chances?
- 18:33SPEAKER_03: Probably not much.
- 18:34SPEAKER_03: They really only have three games that they have to win.
- 18:36SPEAKER_03: They only have three games all year that are really, really tough.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: Uh the USC game, Texas AM game, and there's one more game in there that's legitimately legitimately challenging.
- 18:46SPEAKER_03: And the rest of the games, like there just aren't that frisky.
- 18:48SPEAKER_03: There's a UVA in there, there's a Louisville in there, um, there's Purdue.
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, there's there's there's isn't a lot.
- 18:57SPEAKER_03: So I mean, I still think even if they lose, and I think I kind of think they very well might, there's only one or two other challenges.
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: I think that my point is I think there's I think I think they're better at USC.
- 19:06SPEAKER_03: They're gonna win.
- 19:06SPEAKER_03: I think there's even if they lose this game, they're still looking at 10 and 2.
- 19:09SPEAKER_03: A 10 and 2 Notre Dame, given what they bring, given what we know college football committees have done to big brand football teams, like even if they don't look like the sexiest 10 and 2, it's probably good enough to get in.
- 19:20SPEAKER_03: So even if they lose, I still like them to make the playoff.
- 19:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I looking at their schedule, um, they they they could lose this one and and not even be a very good team and still probably go 10 and 2.
- 19:32SPEAKER_02: But depending on how things shake out down the road with uh some of the other teams, maybe hearkening back to my bold prediction where the SEC sneaks in five teams, um, their strength of schedule could really hurt them and the lack of a conference championship.
- 19:47SPEAKER_02: Um, I mean, they don't really play anybody.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: And and Florida State.
- 19:50SPEAKER_02: Florida State, that's the third one.
- 19:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's a big name opponent on there.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: And and who knows what we get out of them.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: They've week one.
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they've been they have been downgraded a little bit.
- 19:59SPEAKER_03: So um give me give me the Aggies in this one.
- 20:02SPEAKER_03: I what I actually did, I actually took the alt line.
- 20:04SPEAKER_03: I took them, I teased the line up to uh um uh Texas AM minus six and a half at plus one eighty, about two to one in your money.
- 20:13SPEAKER_03: I got Texas AM winning this game comfortably.
- 20:16SPEAKER_03: So we shall see.
- 20:17SPEAKER_03: Uh all right, let's talk about some homers.
- 20:19SPEAKER_03: All four of our teams are actually going this Saturday, which is a huge win.
- 20:22SPEAKER_03: Um, uh first one was at Virginia Tech at Vanderbilt.
- 20:25SPEAKER_03: I think it's still like a construction site.
- 20:27SPEAKER_03: I think it's still in Nashville.
- 20:28SPEAKER_03: Um Vanderbilt's can it be a construction site and a graveyard?
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: It's not a good situation.
- 20:35SPEAKER_03: The forecast is terrible.
- 20:36SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be like 90 degrees and like torrential rain.
- 20:38SPEAKER_03: So, like, it's gonna be might be a weird one.
- 20:40SPEAKER_03: Might be a weird game.
- 20:42SPEAKER_03: Um, Vanderbilt stinks.
- 20:43SPEAKER_03: Um, Diego Pavia, the transfer from New Mexico State, I believe.
- 20:47SPEAKER_03: Sounds right.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: Go Lobos.
- 20:48SPEAKER_03: Go Lobos.
- 20:49SPEAKER_03: Um, is a solid upgrade for Vanderbilt a quarterback.
- 20:52SPEAKER_03: I just think I'm I mean, we're we have already landed on this that we like the hookies and we think they're pretty good and gonna compete for the ACC this year, and Vandy's ain't it.
- 21:01SPEAKER_03: So um, I because of the weather, because of the nastiness, 13 points is probably a lot.
- 21:06SPEAKER_03: So I'm you you could talk me into Vanderbilt plus 13, but I see I think the Hokies are in no no there's no reasonable way the Hokies lose this game.
- 21:14SPEAKER_03: So give me give me Vanderbilt plus 13, but Hokies win.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: I like the Hokies the cover.
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: Okay, and yeah, I don't think Vandy puts up much of a fight.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: I think the Hokies do what they what the whatever they want to do, and we see a little more of that downfield passing game from drones.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: Of course, we're gonna see a nice rushing game, and I think the Hokies uh end up with a couple turnovers, uh maybe a maybe a scoop and score, a pick six by the defense.
- 21:36SPEAKER_03: I think it's to come down to the weather.
- 21:37SPEAKER_03: I mean, I think that I mean Virginia Tech has this trio of wide receivers headlined by Ally Jennings from old Dominion University, who's really, really good.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: But the question is but if it's a torrential downstorm and it needs to be Michelle Tootin and Kyron Jones on keepers, like they could do that.
- 21:51SPEAKER_03: They can do that, they could do that, they could stop the run and they could do that, and it's just gonna be a wet slog of a game.
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: And I just don't know if that happens, if they have enough time to get over the 14-point hurdle, but yeah, we'll see.
- 22:03SPEAKER_03: Uh moving on.
- 22:04SPEAKER_03: Uh, University of Richmond at UVA.
- 22:06SPEAKER_03: UVA is 18 and a half point favorites to 6 o'clock on Saturday.
- 22:10SPEAKER_03: U of our is not going to compete in this game.
- 22:12SPEAKER_03: I have the expectation, the line is about right.
- 22:15SPEAKER_03: Maybe I take UVA to cover.
- 22:16SPEAKER_03: That's not really what I'm interested in.
- 22:17SPEAKER_03: This one, frankly.
- 22:18SPEAKER_03: I want to see Kalandria.
- 22:19SPEAKER_03: It's time to see what Kalandria can do with our Richmond boys.
- 22:22SPEAKER_03: Chris Tyree, your neighbor, Andre Green, my neighbor out here.
- 22:26SPEAKER_03: They are offensive contributors.
- 22:28SPEAKER_03: They're expected to do good things for UVA outside of Malachi Fields and Kobe Pace.
- 22:33SPEAKER_03: So let's see the offense do what it's supposed to do and over an overmatched Richmond team.
- 22:39SPEAKER_03: Look, play like they're playing over Matt Richmond team.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:42SPEAKER_02: And this would be a nice boost for UVA because these are the games in years past, you know, the past few years that have kind of given them problems.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: So if you're a UVA fan, what you want to see is you want to go to the stadium and have fun and not be on the edge of your seat in the fourth quarter, wondering if you're going to have an embarrassing loss on the schedule.
- 23:02SPEAKER_02: UVA needs this one for multiple reasons.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: There aren't a lot of wins on that schedule for the taking, and this one is right there.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: Um, there they should outclass U of R, and you should be looking at this game, looking to improve on things, you know, fine tune, get ready for real football to be played in the coming weeks.
- 23:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think they go to, I think they go at week four is week two, and they host Maryland week three, which is probably gonna be a swing game.
- 23:27SPEAKER_03: Both teams will be two and oh at that point.
- 23:29SPEAKER_03: They should.
- 23:29SPEAKER_03: So we already talked about UVA not being on the hot seat, Tony Elliott not being on the hot seat.
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: Does that does that change?
- 23:35SPEAKER_03: And you said he wasn't.
- 23:36SPEAKER_03: I think I agree with you.
- 23:37SPEAKER_03: Does your opinion change if they lose this game?
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: Yes, yeah.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: Especially because it's Richmond, it's it's a it's a Virginia school.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's this unwritten rule, you know, when you're kind of the one of the big brothers, you can't you can't lose those games.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: Um, it's bragging rights, it's that changes the whole perception.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: He got he got a pass for last year.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you should win this game.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, if he, I mean, he's still it's not like they fire him tomorrow, but given the schedule and given the challenges that they have this year, they need this one, and they have to get to you know, your your five or six games, five or six wins, and they need this one to get there.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 24:15SPEAKER_03: Uh moving on, Chattanooga at uh Tennessee, Knoxville.
- 24:20SPEAKER_03: When I looked, it wasn't even a spread.
- 24:21SPEAKER_03: This is at 1245 Saturday, it's gotta be in the 40s or 50s.
- 24:25SPEAKER_03: I, you know, the spread doesn't really matter.
- 24:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Tennessee's gonna win by a lot.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: I what are you even why and I know why you're watching this game.
- 24:33SPEAKER_03: Watch anybody else watch this game.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: Uh well, first off, you know, if you're if you've been following college football for the last few years, you know the name Nico Iumaliava.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 24:43SPEAKER_02: He he was a one of the faces of NIL when it first came out.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: He's five-star quarterback, California.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: He's kind of flashy.
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: Um, you want to see him play and you want to see if he's lived up to the hype.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: He's a redshirt freshman.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: He sat all of last year, got his first start in the bowl game against Iowa, and looked really good.
- 25:00SPEAKER_02: What you want to see if you're a Tennessee fan is you want to see him operate smoothly, crisply.
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: You want to see him make um decisions, you know, quickly.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: Uh, you want to see a good down the field, good down the field attack.
- 25:13SPEAKER_02: You want to see you know, a couple deep balls, a couple deep shots, you want to see him use his legs a little bit just to move around in the pocket.
- 25:18SPEAKER_02: Probably not a whole lot of designed runs for him in a game like this.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: I wouldn't hope not.
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: Um and then you want to see you want to see the the D-line dominate because they should.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: I mean, this should be one of the top D-lines in the country, and you want to see them completely control the game on defense.
- 25:35SPEAKER_02: Uh, outside of that, anything is gonna be really nitpicky, really, for kind of the the hardcore fans.
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: You know, you want to see the third string running back, you want to see how how what the wide receiver rotation looks like.
- 25:47SPEAKER_02: Um, because most of the starters should be out, you know, third quarter.
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: In the past, hypo has waited and gotten first team guys, extra reps, extra reps.
- 25:57SPEAKER_02: Um, I think they're gonna look to rotate a lot more this year, so that's what I'm looking for.
- 26:01SPEAKER_02: And no injuries.
- 26:02SPEAKER_02: The big thing is always no injuries, of course.
- 26:04SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, whatever the give me Tennessee minus whatever.
- 26:06SPEAKER_03: Whatever some they'll hang up, they'll hang a number at some point.
- 26:09SPEAKER_03: The time recording, they had not done that.
- 26:10SPEAKER_03: Uh, last one.
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: Uh USC uh LSU.
- 26:14SPEAKER_03: LSU is a four-point favorite.
- 26:16SPEAKER_03: Actually, came down from six, which does not make me feel very good.
- 26:18SPEAKER_03: This game is Sunday, Sunday, 7:30 p.m.
- 26:21SPEAKER_03: Eastern in Vegas, allegiance stadium, home of the Raiders.
- 26:24SPEAKER_03: Gonna be primetime football.
- 26:25SPEAKER_03: The Raiders.
- 26:26SPEAKER_03: The Raiders.
- 26:27SPEAKER_03: All eyes of college football are going to be on it.
- 26:29SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm excited.
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: I mean, obviously, the funny thing was a big game.
- 26:32SPEAKER_03: It's a big game.
- 26:32SPEAKER_03: Really big game.
- 26:33SPEAKER_03: A lot of things.
- 26:34SPEAKER_03: One, it was a Brian Kelly's year three.
- 26:36SPEAKER_03: He has never won an opener.
- 26:38SPEAKER_03: Don't love that.
- 26:38SPEAKER_03: Lost the first year to Florida State.
- 26:39SPEAKER_03: Don't love that.
- 26:40SPEAKER_03: So, and honestly, it's not just we, I mean, Florida State both times were better teams than we were, but they just didn't look yeah.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: There was sloppiness.
- 26:47SPEAKER_03: We were sloppy as we weren't ready.
- 26:48SPEAKER_02: There were a lot of penalties that cost yeah.
- 26:51SPEAKER_03: This game looks pretty similar.
- 26:52SPEAKER_03: Both teams um have really good offenses, have a ton of receivers, and defenses that aren't good.
- 26:57SPEAKER_03: The question for me is what what I've what I'm coming back to and what I'm kind of relying on effectively is like what can you actually trust?
- 27:03SPEAKER_03: What can you what can you take home and say, oh, I feel really good about this?
- 27:07SPEAKER_03: The only thing I can feel really, really good about, frankly, right now, I can I'm optimistic about Garrett Nuss.
- 27:12SPEAKER_03: I'm optimistic about the defense, new new corners.
- 27:14SPEAKER_03: The only thing I really trust is the offensive line.
- 27:16SPEAKER_03: The offensive line, one of the best in the country.
- 27:18SPEAKER_03: One of the best in the country, two.
- 27:19SPEAKER_03: Two NFL tackles.
- 27:21SPEAKER_03: Will Campbell's probably top five pick.
- 27:23SPEAKER_03: USC's defensive front has not been good ever in uh the Lincoln Riley era.
- 27:28SPEAKER_03: And frankly, he's only had a good defense once.
- 27:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, one thing you should be able to rely on is that we're ground game.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 27:35SPEAKER_03: So if that's the only thing that we can go on, I think it really is, then I'm gonna give the edge to my tigers.
- 27:39SPEAKER_03: I like LSU to win.
- 27:41SPEAKER_03: I don't know if we're gonna cover.
- 27:42SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna be watching this game on pins and needles.
- 27:44SPEAKER_03: Give us, give me LSU by six, so maybe we cover.
- 27:46SPEAKER_03: But you know, their wide receivers or Zachariah Branch, those guys are absolute studs.
- 27:50SPEAKER_03: Our defensive backs we're breaking in, are talented for it five stars, but they've not stayed not looked billing.
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, plugged a lot of holes with transfers.
- 27:58SPEAKER_03: Plugged a lot of holes with transfers.
- 27:59SPEAKER_03: It's it's a kind of game, both teams are gonna have really good offenses.
- 28:03SPEAKER_03: And I think the over-under is 64 and a half.
- 28:06SPEAKER_03: So Vegas is calling for a 35-31 and a half type LSU total.
- 28:11SPEAKER_03: So it's gonna be a there's gonna be a lot of points, which are supposed to be.
- 28:13SPEAKER_03: I think it's gonna be a question of who can get more stops.
- 28:15SPEAKER_03: So, what I think is gonna happen is LSU is going to assert itself with the run game, pound the ball, give our defense a couple more breaks, and we'll get, I don't know, two, three more stops than they will.
- 28:26SPEAKER_03: I don't have a lot of confidence, so I don't feel great going to this game.
- 28:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think you're right when you say that there aren't a lot of proven pieces um for really either team, because when you look back at what USC's done, you know, what we have to go on is last year in the offseason, and um for lack of a better term, um, they've been soft.
- 28:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: And that's one thing if you're LSU, you think you should be able to push them around a little bit.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: Uh what you're worried about is you don't have a huge sample size from Nessmeyer at quarterback.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: Correct.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: Uh, and if he struggles and USC's offense looks as good as they're built to be early, you know, does relying on the ground game give LSU enough time to come back?
- 29:11SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: Um, I like LSU to win, but that if they don't, I like LSU to win and cover, honestly.
- 29:16SPEAKER_02: But if they don't, that's what happens.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: That they they sputter a little bit on offense.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: Nussmeyer, who's been rumored to have some turnover issues in camp.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, maybe they get behind and maybe they hit the panic button.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: Um, but I don't see that happening.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: I think both offenses are gonna play pretty well, and I like LSU's overall physicality much, much more.
- 29:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's what that's what I'm gonna take too.
- 29:37SPEAKER_03: I mean, there's certainly a world where one, and really this is true for either team, where he could start up 14-0, two big plays, two big shots.
- 29:43SPEAKER_03: Garrett Nusmeyer loves to sling it down the field.
- 29:46SPEAKER_03: I know USC.
- 29:47SPEAKER_03: I mean, Lincoln Riley has done that his entire career.
- 29:49SPEAKER_03: Both of them.
- 29:50SPEAKER_03: He can draw it up.
- 29:51SPEAKER_03: He's gonna have an offense.
- 29:52SPEAKER_03: He's going to have an offense.
- 29:53SPEAKER_03: This is not the team, you know, with our new new defensive staff, um, so many new starters on defense, trying to get back LSU back to respectability on that side of the ball, which hasn't been a problem for LSU in 25 years, frankly.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: Um, this is not the team that we want to really test ourselves again, especially away from the comfort configs, Baton Rouge, Tiger Stadium.
- 30:09SPEAKER_03: But here we go.
- 30:10SPEAKER_03: It is what it is.
- 30:11SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, I'll be watching that game.
- 30:13SPEAKER_03: Really excited.
- 30:14SPEAKER_03: Uh, very cool.
- 30:15SPEAKER_03: Uh, fun facts, a little additional homework time uh statistic for you.
- 30:18SPEAKER_03: Uh JMU, minus eight and a half at Charlotte.
- 30:21SPEAKER_03: Charlotte's game's 8 p.m.
- 30:22SPEAKER_03: on Saturday.
- 30:22SPEAKER_03: This is interesting because one, JMU is one of the best schools in Virginia.
- 30:26SPEAKER_03: Also, the the the press conference was Charlotte's coach.
- 30:29SPEAKER_03: Coach's name is Biff Pokey, by the way, which is the most football name of all football names, Biff Pokey.
- 30:34SPEAKER_03: Um, they're out nine starters with injuries from camp.
- 30:38SPEAKER_03: He had a press conference earlier this week and he said, Well, we knew JMU was coming, they're one of the best teams in the Sun Belt, they're really good.
- 30:44SPEAKER_03: We kind of overdid it on camp.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: It was probably too physical, blah, blah, blah.
- 30:47SPEAKER_02: He was saying if you did that, don't admit that.
- 30:50SPEAKER_03: Right?
- 30:50SPEAKER_03: And he also admit that the weird thing is he was like unlucky.
- 30:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the weird thing is he was like, Oh, these eight or nine guys, which is like half their starters, when you start 22 guys on a secret offensive defense, like they're all gonna be back in like three or four weeks, which is like not they're all hurt, and they're all hurt, but the same amount, like they're all gonna be back.
- 31:08SPEAKER_03: Like, it's it's a that's a I mean, and when you think about it, that's not like that's a long time.
- 31:13SPEAKER_03: Long time, third of the season.
- 31:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like you've been training for eight months, you're gonna miss a lot of it.
- 31:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, it's like going to see Dune 2 and just skipping the first 45 minutes.
- 31:22SPEAKER_02: Charlotte Niners, yeah.
- 31:23SPEAKER_03: So uh keep an eye on that.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: Um also the spread's eight.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: You didn't mention uh you're outside of the state of Virginia, hammer JMU on the card.
- 31:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, if you look at Virginia, you could bet on that one.
- 31:33SPEAKER_03: Go ahead and take uh take the Duke's as well.
- 31:35SPEAKER_03: Uh, because they're down nine stars, and JMU is just good.
- 31:37SPEAKER_03: I know they lost a lot.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: Obviously, Kirks and Netty moved on.
- 31:39SPEAKER_03: You know, we we asked I'll talk about Indiana this summer because Indiana sorry, the season, because Indiana, new head coach Kirks and Netty, former JMU, and like just like 10 JMU starters on that team.
- 31:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he has taken his whole Sunbelt team, which was an awesome Sun Belt team, and put him in the Big Ten.
- 31:54SPEAKER_03: So we'll see how he does with Indiana.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: I suppose they're good.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: Sneaky goods.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: Sneaky good.
- 31:58SPEAKER_03: We'll see.
- 31:58SPEAKER_03: We will see.
- 31:59SPEAKER_03: Um, wildcard.
- 32:00SPEAKER_03: This is kind of an off-the-books game that I just think is kind of interesting.
- 32:04SPEAKER_03: Um, I picked Southern Mists at Kentucky, Kentucky minus 28 points, game of 745 on Saturday.
- 32:10SPEAKER_03: So here's the thing.
- 32:11SPEAKER_03: So uh Kentucky's quarterback, his name is Brock Vandegriff, five-star quarterback.
- 32:16SPEAKER_03: He came out in 2021.
- 32:18SPEAKER_03: Look at this list of quarterbacks he came out with: Quinn Ewers, Caleb Williams, Sam Heward, who was a miss, Drake May, Brock Vandegriff, JJ Caden Salter.
- 32:28SPEAKER_03: That's five quarterbacks.
- 32:30SPEAKER_03: Three of them are pros, two of them are awesome, one miss, and Brock Vandegriff.
- 32:33SPEAKER_03: Carson Beck is considered the quarterback of Georgia who took the job and obviously Brock lost him, is considered the best coach in college football.
- 32:40SPEAKER_03: There is a world where Brock Vandegriff might be the second best coach, second best quarterback in college football.
- 32:46SPEAKER_03: There's nothing wrong with losing a job to the best quarterback in college football in Carson Beck.
- 32:51SPEAKER_03: Blah, blah, blah.
- 32:52SPEAKER_03: My point: keep an eye on Kentucky this year and keep an eye on Brock Vandegriff.
- 32:57SPEAKER_03: He's a five-star, he's been in the program for three years.
- 33:00SPEAKER_03: He's gotten incredible coaching at Georgia.
- 33:02SPEAKER_03: He looks good at camp.
- 33:03SPEAKER_03: He's moving over to a Kentucky team coached by Mark Stoops, who's made his career in Lexus, doing less with more.
- 33:10SPEAKER_02: And they they've got a new offensive coordinator.
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: They're they're doing a little bit more up-tempo stuff, they're trying to get a little bit more progressive because their offense has kind of hurt them in the past.
- 33:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:20SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, I mean, that that's definitely one to watch.
- 33:23SPEAKER_03: So Vegas has their win total like six and a half or seven.
- 33:25SPEAKER_03: I'm not saying they're going to win the Big Ten or challenge for the former, but they're gonna pull some big upsets.
- 33:30SPEAKER_03: Or they could or challenge for the former SEC East, which doesn't exist anymore.
- 33:33SPEAKER_03: But they absolutely could pull some upsets, and they're there could absolutely be a team that is worth the watch.
- 33:38SPEAKER_03: This is a this is one of the best parts about week one is like we're gonna be doing this show in a week from now and saying, like, oh my god, did you see what happened in the Iowa games?
- 33:45SPEAKER_03: All these games are not off our radar.
- 33:47SPEAKER_02: It's the best thing about college football, or one of the best things, because every week you've got new, exciting players emerging, taking over, putting teams on their backs.
- 33:57SPEAKER_02: Um, players don't come out of nowhere often in the NFL.
- 34:00SPEAKER_02: No, they do it all the time in college football.
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 34:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the difference.
- 34:03SPEAKER_03: I mean you talk about the difference between 19 and 20-year-old, you know, that all season training, like it just is tremendous, tremendous.
- 34:08SPEAKER_02: All it takes, you know, new environment, you know, new training program, new uh, you know, new coach on on their side of the ball, and then all of a sudden it clicks and you've got a star.
- 34:19SPEAKER_03: So I'm looking forward at I'm looking, I'm keeping, I got a loose eye on Kentucky.
- 34:23SPEAKER_03: They might be one of my deep sleepers.
- 34:25SPEAKER_03: So, and I really because I just want to see what Brock Vandergriff can do as the guy.
- 34:28SPEAKER_03: This high high five-star super recruit.
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: Let's see, now that he finally gets to be the guy, let's see what he can do.
- 34:35SPEAKER_02: So before we wrap up, tell the folks about your um Monday take.
- 34:39SPEAKER_02: You got a big pick.
- 34:40SPEAKER_02: Yes, Florida State plays Boston College 7:30 on Monday night.
- 34:44SPEAKER_03: Yes, Florida State plays Boston College 7 30 Monday night.
- 34:46SPEAKER_03: Another chance for Mark Norvell.
- 34:48SPEAKER_03: Um Mike Norvell to kind of bounce back.
- 34:49SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna say it right now.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: I got Florida State up big.
- 34:53SPEAKER_03: I think Florida State is going to beat the brakes off them.
- 34:55SPEAKER_03: This is one that I'll be betting my personal money on.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: My personal money, not your money, my money with special.
- 35:00SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 35:00SPEAKER_03: Um, I just Boston College is supposed to be very good this year.
- 35:03SPEAKER_03: They're gonna Tallahassee.
- 35:05SPEAKER_03: This is gonna be the second chance in two weeks for Mike Norvell to have all the eyes of college football because there's no NFL.
- 35:10SPEAKER_03: So it's going the Monday night, the Monday night slot prime time is going to be Boston College at Florida State.
- 35:16SPEAKER_03: I think they're out for blood.
- 35:17SPEAKER_03: And I think there'll be a big bounce back.
- 35:19SPEAKER_03: I just think there's I just think there's gonna be um, I think it's gonna be a reckoning.
- 35:22SPEAKER_03: And I think Florida State's gonna win this game by 25.
- 35:25SPEAKER_02: They played, they played a week early before everybody else in the country, and everyone has been dogging them for an entire week.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 35:36SPEAKER_02: What do you think's happening in that D-line meeting room?
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: Everyone's saying they're overrated, they're saying they're soft.
- 35:41SPEAKER_02: They're gonna come out and they're gonna light Boston College up.
- 35:44SPEAKER_02: They're too talented not to.
- 35:46SPEAKER_02: Like, let's put aside the fact that they've got four and five stars all over the place.
- 35:50SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 35:51SPEAKER_02: Let's let's add let's sprinkle in a little added incentive, a little a little juice to the equation.
- 35:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and yeah, you don't want to be an eagle rolling in there right now.
- 36:00SPEAKER_03: No, and I'm just really also just really high on Mike Morvellan.
- 36:02SPEAKER_03: How could you not be?
- 36:03SPEAKER_03: He's just a phenomenal coach who's done a really good job of getting Florida State back to where they are supposed to be in their echelon of just college football.
- 36:10SPEAKER_03: Great program.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: So I I'm sorry for Boston College, but that is a tough spot.
- 36:14SPEAKER_03: What you really wanted was them to beat Georgia Tech by 30, and then they've been sleepwalking on you.
- 36:19SPEAKER_03: That's not gonna happen.
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: No, they need this win so bad, and the poor Boston College Eagles are go of Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts are just gonna they're gonna take it.
- 36:27SPEAKER_03: So I got Florida State covering 28 points, 30 points.
- 36:30SPEAKER_03: I think you're gonna see a real show.
- 36:32SPEAKER_03: I think you're gonna see the best version of DJU that we've seen in a long time.
- 36:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he can still flash, he's still very talented.
- 36:38SPEAKER_02: Uh, he he has his limitations.
- 36:41SPEAKER_02: Uh, I don't think that he is what anyone thought he would be.
- 36:45SPEAKER_02: And I think, but I don't think he needs to be that Florida State to still have a very good year.
- 36:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's not gonna put the team on his back.
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: That's fine.
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: He's got plenty of guys around him that that can that can pick shoulder that load.
- 36:56SPEAKER_03: I don't think he's be that guy to beat Boston College by 30.
- 36:58SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, no.
- 36:59SPEAKER_02: No, I'm thinking more big picture.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: I'm thinking more like national championship stuff.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:03SPEAKER_02: Not Boston College.
- 37:04SPEAKER_02: Not Boston College.
- 37:05SPEAKER_03: Uh, any other any other games you want to talk about, highlight before we get out of here?
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: No, I think uh I'm just ready, man.
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm I'm ready to go.
- 37:12SPEAKER_02: Tonight's prime time.
- 37:13SPEAKER_02: Let's get into it.
- 37:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's awesome.
- 37:15SPEAKER_03: Folks, this is uh our first ever side-by-side in-person recording.
- 37:18SPEAKER_03: So good to see you.
- 37:19SPEAKER_02: That was that was the the slap of our hands.
- 37:21SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 37:23SPEAKER_03: Thanks for coming, Mike Blitz.
- 37:24SPEAKER_03: We'll be back next week.
- 37:25SPEAKER_03: We'll talk about what happens week one.
- 37:27SPEAKER_03: We'll look at you prime for week two, more college football.
- 37:30SPEAKER_03: Um, Mike and I are actually going to a college football game for week two.
- 37:33SPEAKER_03: We're gonna be at Still don't have tickets.
- 37:34SPEAKER_03: Still don't have tickets, but we are going to the we have a we have a hotel room so that counts for something.
- 37:38SPEAKER_03: We are going to NC State.
- 37:39SPEAKER_03: We're at least sleeping together.
- 37:41SPEAKER_03: Going to be in the same city as Tennessee.
- 37:44SPEAKER_03: Maybe there's no football involved.
- 37:45SPEAKER_03: Maybe we're not.
- 37:46SPEAKER_03: Maybe we just have a nice hanging out in the parking lot.
- 37:48SPEAKER_03: Maybe just cuddle up.
- 37:49SPEAKER_03: So we'll be putting out some content related to the NC State Tennessee game, which we're excited about going to next week.
- 37:54SPEAKER_03: We will be there in person for that.
- 37:56SPEAKER_03: Uh very excited.
- 37:57SPEAKER_03: Thanks.
- 37:58SPEAKER_03: Make sure you like, subscribe, comment, send us some uh emails if you have questions or talk on the show, all the things.
- 38:03SPEAKER_03: You guys are great.
- 38:04SPEAKER_03: Love you guys.
- 38:04SPEAKER_03: Uh see ya next time.
- 38:14SPEAKER_04: You can't hear, but I can hear it.
- 38:21SPEAKER_00: Hallelujah.
