- 0:13SPEAKER_11: I drive past his house on my way home from work.
- 0:18SPEAKER_08: Guys, this is like me seeing my favorite rock band on behind stage, like they fucking hate each other.
- 0:24SPEAKER_11: Oh no.
- 0:25SPEAKER_11: He told me to go screw off with the tallest uh of endearments.
- 0:35SPEAKER_05: Welcome to Model Car Mania, a modeling insanity productions podcast dedicated to everything automotive and car modeling.
- 0:43SPEAKER_05: Here are the hosts of the Model Car Mania Podcast: BG, Jason Hanscom, Justin Ryan, Mike Outlaw, and Jody Doyle.
- 1:02SPEAKER_11: Hello and welcome to the Model Car Mania Podcast, a podcast by model car maniacs for model car maniacs.
- 1:08SPEAKER_11: This is your friend Mr.
- 1:09SPEAKER_11: BG, along with a bunch of guys here that are just really awesome and kind of nice, because I have to say that because I didn't think of anything else I could write for him, but uh thought we'd go with the nice aspect of it.
- 1:19SPEAKER_11: So starting off with, we have Mr.
- 1:21SPEAKER_11: Jody Doyle.
- 1:22SPEAKER_11: Welcome back, everybody.
- 1:24SPEAKER_11: Next we have Mr.
- 1:25SPEAKER_11: Jason Hanscom.
- 1:27SPEAKER_11: What's up, everybody?
- 1:28SPEAKER_11: And thirdly, but not lastly, we have Mr.
- 1:30SPEAKER_11: Justin Ryan.
- 1:32SPEAKER_11: Not lastly, but I'm thirdly.
- 1:34SPEAKER_09: Hey everyone.
- 1:36SPEAKER_11: I said thirdly because they couldn't spell tertiary.
- 1:40SPEAKER_11: It kept coming out tushy-e.
- 1:43SPEAKER_11: I like tushy.
- 1:44SPEAKER_11: Yeah, okay, that's good.
- 1:46SPEAKER_11: Uh unfortunately, Mikey couldn't be here with us tonight because he's living up to the moniker of Outlaw.
- 1:52SPEAKER_11: The less I say, the better.
- 1:54SPEAKER_11: Okay, so this episode we have a special guest here to report on the IPMS National Convention, and that's Mr.
- 2:00SPEAKER_11: Keith McGregor.
- 2:01SPEAKER_11: Hello, Keith.
- 2:02SPEAKER_11: Hi, everybody.
- 2:03SPEAKER_11: Thanks for having me.
- 2:04SPEAKER_11: I appreciate it.
- 2:05SPEAKER_11: You're very welcome.
- 2:06SPEAKER_11: Well, we'll see you in the next one.
- 2:07SPEAKER_11: Bye, folks.
- 2:08SPEAKER_11: I'm just too good times.
- 2:12SPEAKER_11: So Keith uh graciously agreed through whatever persuasion Jason was able to put onto him to actually report on the IPMS convention that none of us could make because we're all like living lives and stuff.
- 2:26SPEAKER_11: And Keith, how far away was the venue from you?
- 2:29SPEAKER_08: It was only four hours.
- 2:30SPEAKER_08: I'm in northern Illinois in Rockford, and it was in Fort Wayne.
- 2:33SPEAKER_08: It was right around a four hour, four and a half hour drive.
- 2:36SPEAKER_11: Okay, that's that's not too bad because four hours any direction Arizona, I'm still in Arizona, so that's awesome.
- 2:45SPEAKER_11: But I'm already off script.
- 2:47SPEAKER_11: How about that?
- 2:49SPEAKER_11: So you uh what prompted you to actually want to go to this convention?
- 2:54SPEAKER_08: A friend of mine, uh Eric Pearson, he and I joined a club in January, and he's been real encouraging to me.
- 3:02SPEAKER_08: And he went to the show in Madison a couple years ago, and uh he just said it's it's over the top, we gotta go.
- 3:09SPEAKER_08: And it's like, let's get some rooms, and we just made it happen.
- 3:13SPEAKER_08: And I was really anticipating it, and uh yeah, and I can see why.
- 3:18SPEAKER_11: That's excellent.
- 3:18SPEAKER_11: Glad to hear that.
- 3:19SPEAKER_11: Had you ever wanted to see a show?
- 3:21SPEAKER_11: Like, was that ever on your radar before?
- 3:23SPEAKER_08: It was, and once you recognize the the the size of it and the scope of it, then you really recognize like I need to be here and I need to go to another one because it's just it's just sensory overload compared to any show that I've ever been to.
- 3:40SPEAKER_08: I haven't been to as many as you you guys have, but uh this was just over the top, and just your eyes couldn't take it all in quick enough.
- 3:47SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 3:49SPEAKER_11: Well, I have been to my affairs, share of shows, but uh no, the conventions always knock it out of the park.
- 3:54SPEAKER_11: I I swear.
- 3:55SPEAKER_11: Now, as far as the venue was concerned, I was curious about how the venue was.
- 4:00SPEAKER_11: Was it like uh they have enough room for everything?
- 4:02SPEAKER_11: Was there the table layout pretty cool?
- 4:04SPEAKER_11: Things able to see on the table, you're able to see the things on the table well enough, that kind of a thing.
- 4:09SPEAKER_08: They did a tremendous job in in my estimation.
- 4:13SPEAKER_08: Uh, they were very well organized.
- 4:15SPEAKER_08: It took it took a village to make these things happen, which again, I failed to recognize just seeing it on a 10-minute YouTube review of the show.
- 4:25SPEAKER_08: You recognize how many volunteers and how many people it does it takes to make everything happen.
- 4:30SPEAKER_08: It was in a large arena, and they had three different rooms, uh, one main room which was on one side, and then on the far side they had two other rooms, and in the middle was the contests, and it was just enormous.
- 4:49SPEAKER_08: They had like 3,000, over 3,000.
- 4:52SPEAKER_08: It was just tables after tables of tables of black tablecloth.
- 4:56SPEAKER_08: It was just in like over 200 and some, like it was 208 categories.
- 5:01SPEAKER_08: I didn't know there were so many categories.
- 5:04SPEAKER_08: Wow, but they were it was organized, you had room to move, you weren't like, oh my god, I just tipped something.
- 5:10SPEAKER_08: They did a fantastic job.
- 5:12SPEAKER_11: That's awesome.
- 5:13SPEAKER_11: I'm glad to hear that.
- 5:14SPEAKER_11: Sounds like they knew what they were doing.
- 5:16SPEAKER_11: My understanding, the IPMS shows, because they're held in different areas of the country by different clubs kind of running the shows, you're gonna get a different flavor with every single show.
- 5:26SPEAKER_11: So it's really good to hear that the last two shows have been um really, really good shows.
- 5:31SPEAKER_11: So I have high hopes for the next ones coming because that's like in Huntsville, Alabama, and I want to go because that's like Rocket City, USA.
- 5:37SPEAKER_08: And the next year after that, I think it's gonna be in Louisiana.
- 5:40SPEAKER_08: Louisiana it is.
- 5:42SPEAKER_08: Louisiana, yeah.
- 5:43SPEAKER_11: We're at Louisiana, just all of Louisiana or something.
- 5:47SPEAKER_08: I was trying to was it Shreeport?
- 5:49SPEAKER_08: I can't recall.
- 5:50SPEAKER_08: I can't recall.
- 5:50SPEAKER_11: Is it above the waterline or below the water line?
- 5:53SPEAKER_08: It's all below the waterline.
- 5:56SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it depends.
- 5:57SPEAKER_10: It's down near the locks.
- 5:59SPEAKER_06: There you go.
- 5:59SPEAKER_06: That's right.
- 6:00SPEAKER_10: Gotcha.
- 6:01SPEAKER_06: How was the uh how was the vendor vendor area?
- 6:04SPEAKER_06: I heard that uh there was a lot of stuff.
- 6:06SPEAKER_08: It's and again, I use this terminology, it was it was sensory overload.
- 6:10SPEAKER_08: I I think I bought a B29 engine, and and I don't have any airplane kits, but it just they had so many pieces and parts, and as we say, as they say in Chicago, dis and that just you I went into the AK and it took me 10 minutes to walk three feet.
- 6:31SPEAKER_08: Um, they just had all sorts of stuff.
- 6:34SPEAKER_09: You know what I'm going home with?
- 6:35SPEAKER_09: I'm going home with a B29 engine.
- 6:37SPEAKER_09: Exactly.
- 6:38SPEAKER_09: I shouldn't buy one.
- 6:39SPEAKER_08: I need to get one because I got some great engines for it.
- 6:43SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 6:44SPEAKER_09: Um what scale?
- 6:46SPEAKER_08: It was, I don't know.
- 6:47SPEAKER_09: Um, can you put it into a model car?
- 6:49SPEAKER_08: I think so.
- 6:50SPEAKER_08: I think so.
- 6:51SPEAKER_08: Oh there you go.
- 6:53SPEAKER_08: Umia had a nice, a nice set of very professionals you'd expect from them.
- 6:58SPEAKER_08: Um squadron, and again, I'm a car guy squadron.
- 7:02SPEAKER_08: Had I mean a store in there, it was people were lined up just buying their stuff.
- 7:07SPEAKER_08: Those guys over at Squadron are awesome.
- 7:09SPEAKER_08: Yeah, and uh, I was sent to get to get some stuff for our raffle for our club, and they were extremely, extremely kind and helpful to us.
- 7:20SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 7:20SPEAKER_08: Um a lot of just also besides the names you'd know like Edward and Rivel and and and and the and those sorts, they had a lot of just big vendors selling nothing but kits.
- 7:33SPEAKER_08: And man, they had stuff that I hadn't seen in years before.
- 7:37SPEAKER_08: So many specialty things.
- 7:39SPEAKER_08: Again, I'm looking at things, I'm it's kind of kidding, but I'm looking like, what is that?
- 7:42SPEAKER_08: It's like I gotta have it.
- 7:43SPEAKER_08: I don't even know what it is.
- 7:44SPEAKER_08: They just had photo action, different adhesives I've never seen before, and sable brushes and just tremendous amounts of support material, uh, 3D all over the place, carbon fiber, scale.
- 7:58SPEAKER_08: Motorsports are there with the carbon fiber decals and books and publishers, everything everything's so specific.
- 8:06SPEAKER_08: North Africa campaign 1941 and all these things for the military people, but it was just uh yeah, you couldn't bring enough money, let's put it that way.
- 8:15SPEAKER_11: Nice.
- 8:16SPEAKER_11: Edward is like really high on my love list right now because I'm I'm teaching myself how to do photoetch for the first time, and their photo watch stuff seems like it's actually pretty decent.
- 8:25SPEAKER_10: So man, I wish I could get photo etch seat belt, Edward Photoetch seatbelts still.
- 8:29SPEAKER_10: I can't find them anywhere.
- 8:31SPEAKER_10: They're the best I've ever used.
- 8:33SPEAKER_10: You tried going right to their website?
- 8:35SPEAKER_10: Uh no.
- 8:37SPEAKER_10: That would be the obvious thing to do.
- 8:39SPEAKER_10: I've tried nothing, and I'm all out of ideas.
- 8:42SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you're you I get it though.
- 8:44SPEAKER_09: You you try to do it with your local shops and whatnot.
- 8:46SPEAKER_03: I get it.
- 8:47SPEAKER_10: Yeah, all my all my regular places, yeah.
- 8:49SPEAKER_10: I try and and nobody's got them in stock, but maybe I will have to go to the website in a few minutes.
- 8:56SPEAKER_11: I picked up a set of Edward seatbelts, racing, racing seat belts, and I was so stoked that I bought them because they were like five bucks or whatever, some some flea market thing.
- 9:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:04SPEAKER_11: Got home, opened them up, and realized, oh wait, these are actually 120th scale seat belts.
- 9:09SPEAKER_11: Son of a bitch.
- 9:10SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 9:11SPEAKER_11: It's not gonna fit anything, I gotta go buy a model to put them on.
- 9:13SPEAKER_10: Well, I have a couple of questions for Mr.
- 9:15SPEAKER_10: McGurregator.
- 9:16SPEAKER_10: Please, please do.
- 9:17SPEAKER_10: So the first one is let me see if I can rephrase this the correct way.
- 9:21SPEAKER_10: I was gonna say, does everything go right over there?
- 9:23SPEAKER_10: I'm gonna stroke.
- 9:26SPEAKER_10: Feel free to ask this.
- 9:27SPEAKER_10: Does it smell like burnt toast?
- 9:29SPEAKER_10: Does it smell like burnt toast?
- 9:30SPEAKER_10: Yes, actually.
- 9:30SPEAKER_10: I'm kind of hungry.
- 9:32SPEAKER_10: Was there a list of people that you were hoping to meet that you actually did get to?
- 9:37SPEAKER_10: Like, I mean, I know when I go to a show, I have a a list of people in my head that I'm like, oh, I hope I run into this person or that person.
- 9:44SPEAKER_10: Did you run into anybody really cool that you've never met before and was hoping to?
- 9:49SPEAKER_08: Or there was uh Frank Dinati was there.
- 9:52SPEAKER_08: And uh EBay, yeah, yeah, and and he was a uh what do they say?
- 9:56SPEAKER_08: He was a rock star at the place, and yeah, and uh I was a bit shy to talk to him, and and and I didn't want to pay ten bucks for the autograph.
- 10:04SPEAKER_08: I just thought that was a little high, but it was maybe Canadian dollars.
- 10:06SPEAKER_08: I don't know what the exchange rate was.
- 10:09SPEAKER_08: Well, that the line's kind of long to talk to him because of all the people filing the paternity suits, so but he was at squadron, he was very busy and very popular, and it was just kind of fun to watch that interaction that he had with with the other folks, and and then I met Jim Drew, and Jim Drew is a big time sports car, Isa Laman's builder, and that's really one of my big passions.
- 10:32SPEAKER_08: And uh literally bumped into him at the at the contest, and uh we chatted for about 10-15 minutes, and it was just a real joy.
- 10:40SPEAKER_08: He's a real nice guy and knows his stuff, and uh yeah, it was fun in that regard.
- 10:45SPEAKER_08: He builds one hell of a model too.
- 10:46SPEAKER_08: He's yeah, I think he he won I think two awards at the show.
- 10:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah, oh good, good.
- 10:52SPEAKER_11: Uh I've only talked to him like online, but he seems like such a nice guy.
- 10:57SPEAKER_11: Any other celebrity spottings?
- 10:58SPEAKER_08: Uh, you guys weren't there, so I didn't see any of any of that, but uh no, not really.
- 11:04SPEAKER_08: Not really.
- 11:05SPEAKER_08: That was about it.
- 11:06SPEAKER_08: That was about it.
- 11:08SPEAKER_10: Yeah, they were they were late sending the contracts, that's why we weren't there.
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: There you go, yeah, that's right.
- 11:13SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:13SPEAKER_11: I am so bad with with like actual celebrity spotting.
- 11:17SPEAKER_11: When I used to work at the airport, this guy comes in, he's got like this entourage of young women with him, and he's talking to them all, and they're all you know, yay, you know, type of thing.
- 11:26SPEAKER_11: And then he buys a couple of things and leaves the store.
- 11:28SPEAKER_11: He actually buys goes up to my register, buys a couple things and leaves the store, packages of batteries is what it was, and then he leaves the store, and the girls are all following him and stuff.
- 11:36SPEAKER_11: I'm like, what the hell is that all about?
- 11:39SPEAKER_11: And one of the other sales associates comes over and she's all starry-eyed, and she's like, Do you know who that was?
- 11:44SPEAKER_11: I'm like, No, and she's like, That was DMX.
- 11:47SPEAKER_11: I'm like, or DML or whatever his name is, and I'm like, Okay, well, I'm like, you paid in cash.
- 11:58SPEAKER_11: Can I check the cash?
- 12:02SPEAKER_11: Yeah, but uh anyway, that's my brush of fame, which nobody really cares about.
- 12:08SPEAKER_11: So I'll probably cut that part out anyway.
- 12:10SPEAKER_11: Perfect.
- 12:12SPEAKER_10: Jason, do you have any more questions for I I guess my only other question would be if it's possible to pick out one highlight from the nationals, what would it be?
- 12:21SPEAKER_08: Probably the amount of models at the contest.
- 12:24SPEAKER_08: It was just whatever show you've been to, they haven't had this many.
- 12:28SPEAKER_08: It was, I got the numbers over 3,100 models, 208 categories.
- 12:35SPEAKER_08: It just you had to see it table after table after table, 60 feet long, 12, 15 rows deep of of uh just the 48-scale aircraft.
- 12:47SPEAKER_08: It's like they were almost touching each other.
- 12:49SPEAKER_08: There were so many entries.
- 12:50SPEAKER_08: It was just uh that because that was amazing.
- 12:53SPEAKER_08: There were some categories I went to.
- 12:55SPEAKER_08: It's like, oh my god, there's only 10 10 builds in this thing.
- 12:59SPEAKER_08: It's like, oh I thought it'd be more, and then another one next to it would have 110 builds that you know both all go in for the same awards.
- 13:07SPEAKER_08: And that that was uh probably the most amazing thing is the amount of builds and the quality is just awesome.
- 13:14SPEAKER_09: That's that's where I find the argument of gold, silver, bronze shows are just handing out awards for being there, participate, participation, participate.
- 13:27SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that one trophies for participation.
- 13:32SPEAKER_09: Why am I not able to say that a word?
- 13:34SPEAKER_09: Holy crap.
- 13:36SPEAKER_11: Anyway, the word you're looking for is precipitation, precipitation, not precipitation.
- 13:42SPEAKER_09: Um, but then you hear about the Nats where it's got 208 categories, and 148th aircraft has like 12 of those categories.
- 13:52SPEAKER_09: Like, yeah, how is how is the participation participation pro trophy and the gold, silver, bronze when you're measured on your merit, on what you're actually putting on the table?
- 14:05SPEAKER_09: Whereas, sure, we got a first, second, and third for every single model that's here, you know what I mean?
- 14:11SPEAKER_09: But that's we don't need to get into all that, but you know, I just I I find that extremely so through all of that, you're asking if it was raining there?
- 14:20SPEAKER_09: Maybe I don't know.
- 14:22SPEAKER_09: Was it moist when you're there?
- 14:26SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I was gonna say the rant came a little early this episode.
- 14:30SPEAKER_03: No, this was not even a rant.
- 14:31SPEAKER_10: Uh here's the wind up.
- 14:33SPEAKER_10: Can you imagine, Jody?
- 14:35SPEAKER_10: Can you imagine sitting through like an award ceremony when we go to an IPMS show, right?
- 14:39SPEAKER_10: And there's what 50 50 categories, and we're like, cars are always last, and we're like that's right, yeah.
- 14:45SPEAKER_10: Can you imagine 200 to sit through?
- 14:48SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 14:49SPEAKER_11: I've sat through an awards ceremony through IPMS nationals, and oh boy, howdy.
- 14:55SPEAKER_08: Yeah, the cars were very well represented.
- 14:58SPEAKER_08: You hear that oh, it just means you're just blown away by all the armor and stuff.
- 15:01SPEAKER_08: There was over 500 car models there, and and many of them were just breathtaking.
- 15:07SPEAKER_08: I was amazed not only by the uh the builds, but by one, the presentation, the way they'd have dioramas or mirrors or lights or something to show off their work, and and you'd look at some of these dioramas where the plane or the car is, and I'm like, and this sounds so it's like god, I wonder where they bought that where they bought that stand.
- 15:29SPEAKER_08: It's like they made every single thing, and it's like you sometimes don't even rec it sounds silly, but you don't even recognize, like, yeah, all those grasses and those two people and all that was made by that artist.
- 15:41SPEAKER_08: Because it's funny, we talk about models as oh, you build toys or you play with model cars.
- 15:46SPEAKER_08: It's like it's to the point where some of these people, you guys included, it's artwork that's being done here, and we need to really recognize that.
- 15:54SPEAKER_08: Some build step one, step two, some step three, and others take it to the absolute tenth degree and build pieces of art.
- 16:01SPEAKER_08: If it was on a canvas, you'd be going, Oh my god, look at that.
- 16:04SPEAKER_08: You know, they're just incredible, incredible things.
- 16:07SPEAKER_11: I think you hit it right on the nail right on the head there.
- 16:09SPEAKER_11: The artist who did that, yeah, you know, that's definitely an artist.
- 16:13SPEAKER_11: Now I remember years ago, I was at a show and there was this one young woman here looking at uh something somebody done for diorama, and she's like, Wow, look at that! That guy made that out of metal.
- 16:23SPEAKER_11: I'm like, actually, that person actually made that out of styrene, plastic, they made it look like metal.
- 16:27SPEAKER_11: Oh, it's almost like you're an artist.
- 16:29SPEAKER_11: Almost, almost, and she's like, Yeah, like if you could do this on canvas, that would mean you're an artist.
- 16:34SPEAKER_11: I'm like, Oh, is that the discerning factor?
- 16:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's all on canvas, that's all it takes.
- 16:38SPEAKER_11: Okay, yeah, all right.
- 16:40SPEAKER_08: Come here, I want to put your face into a canvas where it was enterprise, it was just the enterprise, everything from the Star Trek to all sorts of ships.
- 16:50SPEAKER_08: I mean, they must have 50, and I'm doing this with my hands like people are seeing this.
- 16:54SPEAKER_08: Uh, they had about 50 different models, and everything that the key point was it was the enterprise, and it was just you run out of adjectives, amazing, superlative.
- 17:03SPEAKER_08: It's just wow.
- 17:05SPEAKER_08: The talent that some of these people have, it just knocks you out.
- 17:09SPEAKER_11: From my recollection, the sci-fi can show up really strong at an IPMS show, yeah.
- 17:14SPEAKER_11: At a national, you know.
- 17:16SPEAKER_11: Yeah, uh people will travel all over the country to go to an IPMS with uh sci-fi-wise, because I don't think there's many sci-fi model shows out there unless it's going to be something at like Comic Con or something like that.
- 17:28SPEAKER_11: But I could be wrong.
- 17:30SPEAKER_11: Um, hopefully I am, because it would be it's so sad to see that that there's not that many sci-fi model shows.
- 17:36SPEAKER_08: But yeah, in answer to your question, Jason, it was probably the contest room.
- 17:40SPEAKER_08: It was just I'm looking at these miniatures that are hardly taller than a 50 cent piece, and the level of detail on this miniature is just it's just wow.
- 17:51SPEAKER_08: Amazing.
- 17:52SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah, it is, yeah, it is.
- 17:54SPEAKER_08: And then the tiger meat they had upstairs, and they had over a thousand bits there.
- 17:59SPEAKER_08: And most of those were theme related.
- 18:02SPEAKER_08: The different clubs would have like International Harvester or this or Happy Birthday America stuff.
- 18:09SPEAKER_10: That's a good thing for you to bring up.
- 18:10SPEAKER_10: Can you for the listeners, what's the difference between the the actual contest floor and the tiger meet for people that might not know?
- 18:20SPEAKER_08: As simple as I can understand it and explain it, the tiger meet is is a uh display only, it's not in competition for anything.
- 18:29SPEAKER_08: And again, a lot of the model clubs, the local model clubs will say, let's do let's build Tom Daniel stuff, and you'll see 12, 15, 25 miles of Tom Daniel stuff.
- 18:39SPEAKER_08: Another one did the Happy Birthday America, another one did Truck Town International Harvester, and they would build it, but they're pretty much display only.
- 18:48SPEAKER_08: They're not they're not to be judged, but they were they are every bit as good as the ones downstairs.
- 18:53SPEAKER_09: Another phrase that is typically used would be SIG, special interest groups groups, yeah.
- 18:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:00SPEAKER_08: But they were theme-based, non-competitive, and just extraordinary.
- 19:04SPEAKER_08: Just extraordinary.
- 19:05SPEAKER_11: Are you here for the SIG?
- 19:06SPEAKER_11: Actually, I had to leave mine in the car.
- 19:07SPEAKER_11: Oh, wait, no.
- 19:09SPEAKER_11: No, I vape.
- 19:11SPEAKER_10: I was gonna say maybe that's like right here next to that's in in New Hampshire.
- 19:16SPEAKER_08: You know, it brings up the discussion, like, you know, oh, I'm not gonna display my model at this local at this local contest.
- 19:22SPEAKER_08: I'm just gonna put it for display only.
- 19:24SPEAKER_08: It's like, what it's not good enough to compete?
- 19:26SPEAKER_08: Oh, hardly.
- 19:27SPEAKER_09: No, I don't need more plastic junk in my drive.
- 19:29SPEAKER_08: I just choose not to compete.
- 19:31SPEAKER_08: I just choose to say, look at this great car I just built, and I'm really proud of it.
- 19:35SPEAKER_08: Exactly.
- 19:36SPEAKER_08: It's gonna get nothing but hey, good job.
- 19:38SPEAKER_11: In some cases, that model's already won the nationals, so they have to put it in display only as well.
- 19:43SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 19:44SPEAKER_11: So because sometimes they'll invite folks to bring stuff back again.
- 19:48SPEAKER_09: Uh so I've heard it's basically the the tiger meets for when you uh you want to just go and give the uh the Facebook thumbs up, like we were talking about earlier.
- 19:58SPEAKER_09: That's really all it is.
- 19:59SPEAKER_09: It's just to get the thumbs up.
- 20:00SPEAKER_11: Yeah, the thumbs up the game of the real Facebook likes.
- 20:04SPEAKER_09: And why is it called a tiger meet?
- 20:06SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I don't know.
- 20:07SPEAKER_09: There is a um, I don't know if it still goes on, but there was for a while nations from all over the world, and and any of our listeners can can correct me if I'm wrong, but uh all over the world they would do uh air forces would have a meetup, basically, uh almost like a car show, but you know, they're air forces, and they would typically come in with their aircraft painted up in in tiger meat schemes with like tiger stripes painted all over and everything like that.
- 20:34SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 20:35SPEAKER_11: It's funny you say that because we were just unloading a bunch of cases today that all had aircraft that had mingled tiger stripes and stuff.
- 20:41SPEAKER_11: I'm like, what the hell is going on?
- 20:42SPEAKER_09: That's probably yeah, that's probably livery from a tiger meat.
- 20:46SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 20:47SPEAKER_09: Gotcha.
- 20:47SPEAKER_09: All right, cool.
- 20:48SPEAKER_11: Why it became that, I don't know, but thank you for thank you for helping me solve that mystery, Scoob.
- 20:54SPEAKER_11: You get a snack.
- 20:55SPEAKER_08: One word I'd I'd recommend is if you do go to a nationals, normally think, oh, it's a weekend thing, we'll do a Friday, Saturday or whatever.
- 21:03SPEAKER_08: And Saturday, it's pretty much they're packing up.
- 21:06SPEAKER_08: It's it's it's award night.
- 21:08SPEAKER_08: And uh, if you're gonna go, go on a Thursday and or a Friday.
- 21:12SPEAKER_08: That's when all everything's open and all the lights are on.
- 21:16SPEAKER_08: Solid advice by Saturday.
- 21:18SPEAKER_08: By Saturday, they're packing up, and the awards is later that night, and they had a beautiful theater right across the street.
- 21:23SPEAKER_08: Fort Wynne was a very beautiful town, and uh they had it right across the street, the awards, and it was uh the the Fort Wynne people did a wonderful job for sure.
- 21:32SPEAKER_09: Excellent.
- 21:32SPEAKER_09: Now I know it's a completely different show on a different subject, but you you were talking about the um level of detail in the in the miniatures and stuff that were there.
- 21:42SPEAKER_09: Uh, I highly recommend this fall, if you can, uh getting over to the MMSI show in Chicago.
- 21:49SPEAKER_09: It's a figure show.
- 21:51SPEAKER_09: And so I'm a member of the MFCA and we do a show in Philly.
- 21:55SPEAKER_09: So uh, but it's you know, they're kind of basically the same thing, you know what I mean.
- 22:00SPEAKER_09: And you be you're gonna blow your socks off.
- 22:02SPEAKER_08: You say, Oh, I build car models, it's what I do, and then you look at the the word model is so broad, and you look at some of these other genres and these other subjects, it's like my god, that just the talent.
- 22:12SPEAKER_09: I guess if I was too much, why do I pigeonhole myself into just car modeling?
- 22:15SPEAKER_09: Look at all this stuff.
- 22:17SPEAKER_08: I guess if I was to it was uh I I would I'd put the experience into one word on how I felt about everything, it would be inspired.
- 22:26SPEAKER_08: Yeah, because you saw what can be done if you choose to push yourself and uh and uh you you couldn't go away from that not inspired after seeing some of those builds, they were just extraordinary.
- 22:40SPEAKER_11: Good good word to use because that's what these shows are supposed to do is inspire us to get back to the bench and build something epic, right?
- 22:49SPEAKER_09: But only after hitting the vendor room.
- 22:52SPEAKER_11: Well, yeah, I mean you would you wouldn't be a model builder if you if you went to a show and didn't buy a model that that you weren't gonna build for six years, right?
- 23:01SPEAKER_08: And atm's a plenty, believe me.
- 23:03SPEAKER_08: ATM's airpower.
- 23:05SPEAKER_06: Smart thinking on their part, that's for sure.
- 23:07SPEAKER_11: Yeah, good.
- 23:09SPEAKER_11: Uh I was at a show where they the the cash machine ran out, and it was like people were just waiting around for the armored car to show up so they could deliver more cash, you know.
- 23:18SPEAKER_11: Uh, quick question for you then.
- 23:19SPEAKER_11: Uh, would you attend another convention show again?
- 23:23SPEAKER_08: There'd be no question.
- 23:24SPEAKER_08: There's no question.
- 23:25SPEAKER_08: I'd I'd go to another one.
- 23:27SPEAKER_08: Um, there was plenty of room for everything.
- 23:30SPEAKER_08: I mean, it was a massive event, but again, it was well organized.
- 23:33SPEAKER_08: You weren't bumping each other.
- 23:34SPEAKER_08: Excuse me, excuse me, did you know, and have some guys bag.
- 23:37SPEAKER_08: It wasn't it wasn't like that.
- 23:38SPEAKER_08: They had it laid out that even the big boys could get around each other uh without without causing any problem.
- 23:45SPEAKER_08: And uh it's good.
- 23:46SPEAKER_08: The signage was good, the displays were good, it was just a well-run, but absolutely I would go again for sure.
- 23:52SPEAKER_08: I'd probably get there an hour earlier and leave an hour later.
- 23:55SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 23:57SPEAKER_11: That's that's a good point, though, because when uh we just had our planning uh meeting for our local IPMS show, Keith, you should come to that.
- 24:05SPEAKER_11: It's in November.
- 24:06SPEAKER_11: We were talking about table layouts and stuff, and we're like, you got to keep in mind that there are a lot of folks that have mobility issues, so you're gonna have motorized wheelchairs or mobility scooters, and you need to have enough space for them to pass each other in the aisles uh without catching a tablecloth and taking dragging off, you know, because boy man, uh, I have to rub my temples and roll my eyes.
- 24:26SPEAKER_11: I'm like, I do not want to ever have to witness something like that happening at a show.
- 24:30SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you know, it's a funny thing with the type of people that go to these shows, it won't surprise any of you.
- 24:35SPEAKER_08: I bought a something and uh gave the guy my discovery.
- 24:38SPEAKER_08: He says, Oh, we only take cash.
- 24:39SPEAKER_08: So I set the card down and gave him his cash and walked away.
- 24:42SPEAKER_08: And 20 minutes later, you know, the panic hits.
- 24:46SPEAKER_08: And sure enough, where'd you go?
- 24:48SPEAKER_08: Where'd you go?
- 24:48SPEAKER_08: And I started going back to the last place I think I was at.
- 24:51SPEAKER_08: And who comes meeting me halfway there?
- 24:54SPEAKER_08: Hey, buddy, you left your card.
- 24:56SPEAKER_08: Oh, see, that's a kind of that's the kind of you know, that's the model industry, that's the model community, I should say.
- 25:02SPEAKER_06: Did he have enough time?
- 25:03SPEAKER_06: Did he have enough time to run out to the local strip club and get some cocaine or anything?
- 25:07SPEAKER_06: Or is there a short time to get it?
- 25:10SPEAKER_09: Is that where you go to get it?
- 25:12SPEAKER_06: You gotta go to the strip club, that's where the good drugs are.
- 25:14SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I mean he he's like, as it turns out, nobody in Fort Wayne actually takes this cover, so here's your card back.
- 25:21SPEAKER_11: Yeah, right, exactly.
- 25:24SPEAKER_08: Yeah, no, they're just everyone was pleasant.
- 25:27SPEAKER_08: There was just no you didn't hear just one crossword.
- 25:30SPEAKER_08: It was just it was a wonderful event.
- 25:32SPEAKER_11: Awesome.
- 25:33SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:34SPEAKER_11: That's really good.
- 25:37SPEAKER_11: When they do the judging on that stuff and those shows, they actually do it after hours.
- 25:42SPEAKER_08: They do.
- 25:43SPEAKER_11: And I've known some guys that were like we were there till two, three o'clock in the morning getting stuff done, you know, just pushing through.
- 25:50SPEAKER_11: And then you'll you'll know who they are.
- 25:52SPEAKER_11: They're the ones that are like leaning up against the wall on Saturday morning.
- 25:55SPEAKER_11: They're just like, no.
- 25:57SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I can't imagine judging for a show that size again, especially in some of those categories where there was probably well over a hundred builds.
- 26:05SPEAKER_08: Like, how do you yeah?
- 26:07SPEAKER_11: Right, right.
- 26:07SPEAKER_11: Yeah, right.
- 26:09SPEAKER_11: And uh my friend a couple of friends of mine that are a car judges are like, you get done, and they're like, Are you done?
- 26:14SPEAKER_11: I'm like, Yeah, we're done.
- 26:14SPEAKER_11: Like, okay, cool.
- 26:15SPEAKER_11: You're gonna learn how to do armor now.
- 26:16SPEAKER_11: It's like, oh crap, okay.
- 26:18SPEAKER_03: No, we're not done.
- 26:20SPEAKER_11: Yeah, no, sorry, yeah, yeah, six more entries.
- 26:23SPEAKER_11: Uh that's cool.
- 26:24SPEAKER_11: Um, so hopefully that you didn't uh see well, you were you there for the award ceremony?
- 26:29SPEAKER_08: No, we had left about uh midday on Friday to head back.
- 26:32SPEAKER_11: Okay, all right, no worries, no worries.
- 26:34SPEAKER_08: It was also fun seeing the new releases.
- 26:36SPEAKER_08: I mean, everyone flocked to the the AMT thing and all this Corvair redo and that Mac truck.
- 26:42SPEAKER_08: Oh my god, people are just in they had to dry the thing off.
- 26:44SPEAKER_08: People were just salivating at that Mac truck that's uh that they're coming out with, and and the Sox and Barton car and all sorts of things.
- 26:52SPEAKER_08: And and that was really exciting to see grown men just going, Oh boy, I want that, I want that.
- 26:56SPEAKER_08: It was a lot of fun.
- 26:57SPEAKER_11: Well, thank you for mentioning the Corvair over everything else.
- 26:59SPEAKER_11: You're you're gonna find that.
- 27:02SPEAKER_08: You only if you've only got a dozen, you don't have nearly enough, Brian.
- 27:05SPEAKER_11: Yeah, did I I sent you a picture of that, didn't I?
- 27:07SPEAKER_08: You did.
- 27:08SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:09SPEAKER_11: I've got a dozen Corvair model kits, but uh there's always room for one more.
- 27:13SPEAKER_11: Did you see any other early releases from uh from other manufacturers other than AMT?
- 27:18SPEAKER_08: Um, yeah, there was one, and again, excuse my ignorance with the military.
- 27:22SPEAKER_08: Um, when squadron we had we'd gotten some stuff from squadron for our raffle, and they had the R SO2 German the Tamia one, and yeah, yeah, and the guy and then and they like you need one of these, and and again, people were flocking around that like crazy.
- 27:42SPEAKER_08: It was uh it was it was kind of funny.
- 27:45SPEAKER_09: They brought 400 of those and sold all 400.
- 27:48SPEAKER_09: I believe it.
- 27:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I believe.
- 27:50SPEAKER_11: Rob Rob actually did a video of a of a full build of that just recently.
- 27:54SPEAKER_11: So if you can if you can stand to listen to that, it's probably a good watch.
- 27:57SPEAKER_06: It's mostly it's mostly music, it's mostly music.
- 28:00SPEAKER_06: Okay, you'll be good.
- 28:01SPEAKER_06: I mean, just put put your put your finest uh music choice on and mute the TV and you're probably good.
- 28:07SPEAKER_11: So I just use the Charlie Brown uh talking track.
- 28:14SPEAKER_02: Not that we don't love Riv.
- 28:17SPEAKER_11: And now we're gonna put on the fucking tracks.
- 28:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 28:24SPEAKER_09: God damn it.
- 28:25SPEAKER_09: Why are these tracks fighting me for?
- 28:27SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 28:29SPEAKER_10: Why are these fighting me for?
- 28:31SPEAKER_02: Fighting me for the goddamn model.
- 28:35SPEAKER_02: What's wrong with you?
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: Are you broken?
- 28:38SPEAKER_08: That Mac truck at round two, that got a lot of attention.
- 28:41SPEAKER_08: Then I got a couple others.
- 28:42SPEAKER_08: I noted the 76 Ford F-150 shortbed.
- 28:45SPEAKER_08: That was exciting.
- 28:46SPEAKER_08: The 72 Soxamart Duster.
- 28:49SPEAKER_11: That's actually a short bed.
- 28:50SPEAKER_11: Yes, I'm sorry.
- 28:52SPEAKER_11: It's actually a short bed.
- 28:53SPEAKER_11: They're not they're not just disguising with with uh box art to make it look like a short.
- 28:57SPEAKER_11: No, it's a short bed.
- 28:58SPEAKER_08: I think and then the 91 Chevy 454 pickup, those were four of the of the big ones that people are pretty excited about.
- 29:04SPEAKER_11: Oh, they're repopping the 454.
- 29:06SPEAKER_10: That's good because have you guys seen sorry, have you guys seen the AMT 70-ish Chevy shortbed?
- 29:14SPEAKER_10: That's coming out too.
- 29:15SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 29:16SPEAKER_10: Oh.
- 29:16SPEAKER_10: So you can build a shortbed Chevy and a shortbed for it now.
- 29:20SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 29:21SPEAKER_08: And they're coming out with a Toyota pickup, the the uh is it the back to the back to the future one?
- 29:26SPEAKER_08: Yes, yeah, and an 82 Mitsubishi 2000 tilt bed pickup.
- 29:32SPEAKER_08: That looked pretty cool.
- 29:33SPEAKER_06: That does look kind of fun and technique.
- 29:35SPEAKER_06: I got that on my list for new kits to talk about.
- 29:37SPEAKER_06: Nice.
- 29:38SPEAKER_06: Oh, right on.
- 29:39SPEAKER_06: You also have another one.
- 29:40SPEAKER_03: Oh, you're good.
- 29:42SPEAKER_11: Also on Jody's list to buy.
- 29:44SPEAKER_11: Yeah, right.
- 29:45SPEAKER_11: Well, it's a mini truck, we should be sending out it to Justin.
- 29:48SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:50SPEAKER_11: With with my little pony decals for it.
- 29:52SPEAKER_08: Perfect.
- 29:52SPEAKER_08: What was fun too is that meeting people, not only people that I knew from podcasts or YouTube channels, but just you'd get talking to people.
- 29:59SPEAKER_08: And again, everyone's happy.
- 30:00SPEAKER_08: It's a happy place to be, and everyone's having fun, and we're spending money and we're talking about the thing we love, our passion, and just uh some pretty kind people.
- 30:07SPEAKER_08: And it really made you feel that this is a community that you belong to.
- 30:11SPEAKER_08: This was your tribe, and this is a good thing.
- 30:13SPEAKER_11: Oh, I like that.
- 30:14SPEAKER_11: This is your tribe.
- 30:15SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I mean, I think that down very much so.
- 30:19SPEAKER_06: I mean, that's really the that's really the big thing with the shows, you know, and people get hung up on trophies and awards and all those things, and you're really missing the picture if that's your focus, because the bigger focus is the people at the show, you know.
- 30:31SPEAKER_06: Yeah, the people you look forward to going and seeing, and yeah, I can't wait for the shows to come around because I'm excited to go hang out with my buddies, you know.
- 30:38SPEAKER_08: So I don't know how many strangers got on their phone to show me pictures of their builds.
- 30:43SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah, you know, you and just go, hey, what do you build?
- 30:46SPEAKER_08: Boom, there you go.
- 30:47SPEAKER_08: Here's 43 pictures later.
- 30:48SPEAKER_08: I knew what he builds.
- 30:51SPEAKER_08: Right, we can't help ourselves, it's what we love.
- 30:54SPEAKER_06: Yeah, if you see Mikey in person, don't let him show you any personal pictures on his phone.
- 30:59SPEAKER_08: All right, normally if I see Mike, I just avert my eyes and turn around.
- 31:04SPEAKER_08: There you go.
- 31:04SPEAKER_11: Hey, let me show you this up.
- 31:05SPEAKER_11: No, I don't want to see it.
- 31:06SPEAKER_11: No, no, no.
- 31:08SPEAKER_11: But I I I don't want to shatter any more illusions of you.
- 31:15SPEAKER_11: So, Keith, I I see you referencing notes.
- 31:17SPEAKER_11: Did you actually take notes on things for this show?
- 31:19SPEAKER_08: I did.
- 31:20SPEAKER_08: I just uh because I hadn't experienced it before and I wanted to be able to share some things, and sometimes uh the mind doesn't quite remember as much stuff.
- 31:29SPEAKER_08: And so yeah, I just took some some high points.
- 31:32SPEAKER_08: The dioramas knocked me out the way they were displayed, the figures, uh, the scratch building on any, whether it's a car or military, the scratch building.
- 31:41SPEAKER_08: It's like what kit did you get that out of?
- 31:44SPEAKER_08: It's like, no, I took a sheet of plastic and fabricated this, and and and not having that talent or ability myself, I'm just amazed by what people can do with that stuff.
- 31:53SPEAKER_08: And not only that, but how they even think of the idea.
- 31:56SPEAKER_08: I mean, you guys do that.
- 31:57SPEAKER_08: You're making a Camaro pickup truck.
- 31:59SPEAKER_08: It's like I can't, you know, my biggest I go from step one to step two to step three, yeah.
- 32:06SPEAKER_08: And it's like um for people to have that imagination and then to put it down on a piece of paper and draw it out, and then to lay it on a piece of scratch build and make templates and build that thing, that's just again, it's an artist.
- 32:18SPEAKER_08: These aren't guys playing with toys, this is artwork.
- 32:21SPEAKER_11: There there was there was no planning it out, there was just tape and sawing.
- 32:28SPEAKER_07: But you had an idea, you knew you had anyone.
- 32:31SPEAKER_07: That's right.
- 32:31SPEAKER_11: And I I still remember when the flash of inspiration happened, I was actually shaving, getting ready for work that morning, and I'm like, oh Camaro would be kind of cool as a pickup truck.
- 32:41SPEAKER_11: I should try that sometime.
- 32:42SPEAKER_11: I should try that right now.
- 32:43SPEAKER_11: So I called off sick and I started working on the wrong one.
- 32:47SPEAKER_11: I'm making it today.
- 32:49SPEAKER_08: Yeah, sometimes it's like when you you hear a musician, you like whoever it might be, and it's like, God, how'd they come up with those lyrics or how'd they come up with that riff or whatever?
- 32:57SPEAKER_08: And it's like it just comes to them, and it's kind of like these guys that do the scratch building stuff.
- 33:02SPEAKER_08: It's like, where do they get the ideas?
- 33:04SPEAKER_08: Where do they get the creativity?
- 33:05SPEAKER_08: And then it just happens.
- 33:06SPEAKER_08: They just a part of their brain functions, which other people it doesn't, and that's what artists are.
- 33:13SPEAKER_11: Inspiration can come from just about anywhere, uh Brian Denklow was telling us about some of the inspir how he gets inspired sometimes, and it's just the the the world around him, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:25SPEAKER_11: Yeah, and you don't even have to see it in a certain perspective either.
- 33:29SPEAKER_11: It's just kind of just well, I take that back.
- 33:32SPEAKER_11: I take that back.
- 33:33SPEAKER_11: I think you have to see the world in a certain perspective in order to be inspired by the things around you.
- 33:37SPEAKER_11: Let me let me say it that way.
- 33:40SPEAKER_11: That's the that's the artistic mind, I think.
- 33:42SPEAKER_11: But um I mean, there's so many things I I want to try to do because Jason's inspired me, Jody, Justin, not so much Mike, but you guys all inspire me to to to tackle things and do stuff, and I just want to try things out.
- 33:55SPEAKER_11: And I'm like, oh, I want to try that up.
- 33:57SPEAKER_11: Like Jason did that uh that scrambler kit, the Johan scrambler kit.
- 34:02SPEAKER_11: And I was so inspired to I actually found one for a really great price and I bought it and I got it home and I'm like, this is awesome.
- 34:08SPEAKER_11: And I watched Jason's videos on it.
- 34:10SPEAKER_11: I'm like, I'm gonna offer this up for the auction that comes up in December.
- 34:17SPEAKER_11: So that was my inspiration.
- 34:19SPEAKER_11: But uh okay, so Keith, knowing uh now what the convention had to offer, such as uh seminars and stuff like that, is there anything you would have done differently if you could go back and redo that trip?
- 34:31SPEAKER_08: I would have probably tried to attend one of the seminars.
- 34:35SPEAKER_08: Um you remember which one perhaps?
- 34:38SPEAKER_08: The one, yeah, I've got it written down here.
- 34:39SPEAKER_08: They had one on dioramas and vignettes.
- 34:41SPEAKER_08: Oh, perfect.
- 34:42SPEAKER_08: I thought that would have been that would have been interesting.
- 34:45SPEAKER_08: They had one on paint masks, one on 3D designs, and one on presenting models in photo stories, and one on gun claw.
- 34:54SPEAKER_08: But I think the one with dioramas and vignettes would have been really interesting.
- 34:58SPEAKER_11: Gotcha.
- 34:58SPEAKER_08: How they shape things, how they shadow uh shadow things, and how they go from higher to lower, like the topiary and all that stuff.
- 35:05SPEAKER_08: That was that's all pretty uh pretty amazing to me how they do that.
- 35:09SPEAKER_11: Nice.
- 35:10SPEAKER_11: Uh, would you recommend going to an IPMS Nationals uh for someone who hasn't attended one before?
- 35:16SPEAKER_08: If you can spend the time needed, don't sell it short, don't go for half a day and think think you'll you'll you'll get all you can.
- 35:24SPEAKER_08: There's times that you went by and made a second run second revolution of all the things, and it's like, I can't believe I missed that booth.
- 35:30SPEAKER_08: I can't believe I missed that booth.
- 35:32SPEAKER_08: And and sometimes the fun of it as it's as it is going to a swap meet is is looking at the diss and that's and the little pieces and parts and going like, oh my god, look at that, a photo Edge 4A, Sovereign Mercedes.
- 35:44SPEAKER_08: I didn't know they had that, or whatever it might be.
- 35:46SPEAKER_08: So give yourself time.
- 35:48SPEAKER_08: There's plenty of room, it's well laid out, it's well lit, but just give yourself at least a solid day and a half to really get everything out of it.
- 35:58SPEAKER_08: To go just in the model contest area, you're gonna be you could spend two hours there and not see it all.
- 36:05SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you know, it's just again some of the dioramas, some of the 12-scale, they had some 12-scale Formula One kits with a complete pit crew, even a can of WD-40 right in front of the rear tire.
- 36:17SPEAKER_08: It's like it's up.
- 36:19SPEAKER_08: It's the more you look at the detail, the more time you spend looking at these things, and you almost become mesmerized by the quality of these things.
- 36:26SPEAKER_08: Yeah, but yeah, if you go, I would definitely recommend you go, and especially if it's run as well as this Fort Wayne one was, and uh give yourself time, don't rush yourself and make a second circle because believe me, you missed a few things.
- 36:39SPEAKER_11: Makes total sense.
- 36:41SPEAKER_11: Um was there anybody there photographing other than scale uh fine scale Mutler?
- 36:46SPEAKER_08: Uh Tim, say the last name.
- 36:48SPEAKER_08: Tim K what?
- 36:49SPEAKER_08: Tim K.
- 36:49SPEAKER_08: Yeah, Tim K.
- 36:51SPEAKER_10: Um Tim Tim Custom.
- 36:55SPEAKER_08: Yeah, he he was there um with his new magazine, and uh we chatted for a while because he's gonna be sending this stuff for our show for some uh door prizes and such.
- 37:05SPEAKER_08: He's a very, very, very kind man, and uh he had a nice professional setup for for photography, and he had some models on the table, and he's uh he's quite a builder, my goodness.
- 37:15SPEAKER_08: Yeah, he is.
- 37:16SPEAKER_06: Yeah, he's quite cards.
- 37:19SPEAKER_06: Talk about vision, creativity.
- 37:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, he's he's one of the guys I'm chasing, you know.
- 37:24SPEAKER_06: Just the way he comes up with stuff is I don't know where it comes from.
- 37:28SPEAKER_08: And you hated all these guys that are so good at that, they're so humble and likable.
- 37:33SPEAKER_11: Yes, that's what makes me hate him even more.
- 37:36SPEAKER_11: I'm just kidding.
- 37:38SPEAKER_08: One of them with an attitude, yeah.
- 37:40SPEAKER_11: Have you ever got a chance to meet Clay Kemp?
- 37:43SPEAKER_11: That is one of the sweetest guys in the world.
- 37:45SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:46SPEAKER_08: I've watched his videos because I like building the indie cars and that sort of thing, and and to watch him do what he does is excellent.
- 37:53SPEAKER_06: I definitely want to make it to one of those at some point.
- 37:56SPEAKER_06: I mean, I guess I didn't really realize the scale of it either, you know, because I've never been to a national.
- 38:01SPEAKER_06: You know, I mean, and no, I mean NNL East as an overload for the census, we've talked about it many times, but to think of that times two would just be like overwhelming, you know.
- 38:12SPEAKER_06: I definitely am gonna have to make it to one.
- 38:14SPEAKER_10: Yeah, they need to have the nationals, needs to they need to have a nationals closer to this side of the country, honestly.
- 38:21SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:22SPEAKER_08: If they had one in your neck of the woods, I would definitely be able to attend that because we can't that's what people were surprised that it was gonna be in Alabama next year and then Louisiana the next year, yeah instead of moving it around more.
- 38:32SPEAKER_08: But like I said, two years ago they had it in Madison and now they had it in Fort Wayne.
- 38:36SPEAKER_08: Those are both, you know, Madison's an hour and a half from the end of the year.
- 38:39SPEAKER_10: A little more east and a little more north, yeah, yeah.
- 38:42SPEAKER_10: Like somewhere in New York would be great.
- 38:46SPEAKER_11: I was gonna say Kentucky, but yeah, okay, New York.
- 38:49SPEAKER_08: I mean, listen, uh I don't want to follow a new part of the country, new England part of the country.
- 38:55SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 38:56SPEAKER_11: Yeah, the newest England part of the country, please.
- 39:00SPEAKER_11: Uh yeah, the the OG 13.
- 39:03SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 39:04SPEAKER_08: If there's one in your area and you don't go to it, you'll regret that you didn't go to it.
- 39:09SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:10SPEAKER_08: It's not expensive to go to, and of course, you can spend all the money you want, but you don't have to spend all the money you want either.
- 39:16SPEAKER_08: You can just go and enjoy the show.
- 39:18SPEAKER_08: And like I said, the camaraderie.
- 39:20SPEAKER_08: I was talking to total strangers and they were showing me pictures on their phone of their builds, and it was that's just kind of fun.
- 39:26SPEAKER_08: That's the community.
- 39:27SPEAKER_08: That's that's the word that Jason always uses, and it's so true.
- 39:30SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I didn't know Jody hadn't been to one.
- 39:32SPEAKER_11: This should have been an intervention for him.
- 39:34SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I mean, I've never been to one of them.
- 39:37SPEAKER_11: Oh my god, two of you guys.
- 39:38SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, what are we even doing these days?
- 39:41SPEAKER_06: Okay, hey, we're up here in the middle of bumfuck, you know, it's a long way to go to get there.
- 39:45SPEAKER_06: Exactly.
- 39:46SPEAKER_06: Hey, get there from here.
- 39:47SPEAKER_10: Not only is it in the middle of bumfuck, it's bumfuck nowhere.
- 39:51SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 39:52SPEAKER_06: You have to drive for three days to get to this thing.
- 39:55SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 39:56SPEAKER_11: So, Keith, let us know when did you get started with model building?
- 40:00SPEAKER_08: I got started as you know, pretty much typical story to most people.
- 40:04SPEAKER_08: Um, I feel like I grew up in the best of childhood ages where I was 10 when Batman came on TV, I was 12 when Hot Wheels were released, and yes, I had all the originals, and no, I don't know where those are at.
- 40:15SPEAKER_08: Um, so you know, in in the in the late 60s when I was, you know, yeah, 10, 12 years old or whatever, and uh built the Batman, the Ice T and the Boot Hill Express and all those things, and that was fun.
- 40:26SPEAKER_08: And then of course, life gets in the way.
- 40:28SPEAKER_08: And I came back into it though, probably about 1996-97, and have been doing it since then, but more solitary, as as I might have mentioned to you guys before, where I kind of like didn't recognize that it was such a community that it is now, and it's it's so advanced that it is now, and you know, you got automotive paints, you got 3D and all this, and uh so finding out about that just encouraged me more and more, and then that got me to to join a club just this past January, uh right in the wrong scenario, uh the State Line area modelers, and uh having a lot of fun with it, but was very encouraged when I literally happened upon your old podcast with you and Jason, and it's like they're talking my language, and this is my this is my people, and uh this is my tribe, and they're they're they're talking about the exact same things that I'm concerned with or that I have problems with, or they're they're giving me solutions and and suggestions, and it was like, oh my god, I'm not out here alone.
- 41:23SPEAKER_08: It sounds so silly, but I truly didn't recognize that it's gotten as big as it has.
- 41:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 41:29SPEAKER_11: It's a very good point.
- 41:31SPEAKER_11: When I was in my early days of model building, there was an amazing car show that was just a few miles down the road from me called NL West, that I didn't hear about until just like a couple of years ago and started going for the very first time.
- 41:45SPEAKER_11: And I'm like, all this time I could have just been like coming down here from my house where I was living when I grew up and coming to the show, and now I'm driving all the way from Arizona.
- 41:55SPEAKER_11: Good lord, you know.
- 41:56SPEAKER_11: But uh like I the people that had been going to that show for all 40 of the years that show was going on.
- 42:03SPEAKER_11: I could have known them, I could have made friends with those guys.
- 42:05SPEAKER_11: I could I feel so left out because I didn't even know there was a show just down the road from me.
- 42:11SPEAKER_08: What's nice too is now with the media, the way we've got it, we're looking at each other on computers and we're we're texting, we're Facebooking, we're youtubing, and all that.
- 42:19SPEAKER_08: It's like we know each other, although we've never been in the same room together.
- 42:24SPEAKER_08: And that's just a real camaraderie, and that's uh that's a closeness of uh of the modeling hobby that's really a real magnet, I think, for many people.
- 42:33SPEAKER_08: Yeah, they're not strangers, they're accessible, you just have to try to get to them.
- 42:37SPEAKER_11: And there's uh there's a lot of online clubs, as a matter of fact, there people will do the monthly Zoom meeting and just hang out, and sometimes uh, you know, they'll do club business and what have you, but sometimes somebody will actually will uh talk about um like somebody will get selected to do uh a topic of the month and uh kind of do a tutorial or something like that online.
- 42:59SPEAKER_11: And I thought I thought that's kind of a really cool idea, you know.
- 43:03SPEAKER_11: And then of course there's also the the if you don't have a club in your area but you do have like-minded friends, start one, you know.
- 43:10SPEAKER_11: Uh I rebuilt a club recently and it's going pretty well.
- 43:14SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it's it's not easy, but uh it's rewarding.
- 43:19SPEAKER_11: So doing stuff online is great, but but but man, being in person and having that feedback of how'd you do that?
- 43:26SPEAKER_11: That paint job looks great.
- 43:27SPEAKER_11: When are our freaking shirts gonna show up?
- 43:29SPEAKER_11: You know, that kind of stuff.
- 43:30SPEAKER_11: Uh that's that's all that's all I can do.
- 43:33SPEAKER_11: That's it's it's really special stuff for me.
- 43:35SPEAKER_11: So I'm really I I'm glad you're I'm glad you're there, Keith.
- 43:37SPEAKER_11: I'm glad you're there also.
- 43:38SPEAKER_11: So the club that you're part of, what's it what's it called, Bill?
- 43:41SPEAKER_08: It's uh State Line Area Modelers, Sam Club.
- 43:45SPEAKER_08: And we're uh we're our normal meetings in the small town of Durand, Illinois, but um recently we started approaching other people and get some more meetings in the Rockford area, which is the biggest city in in my little world, and um we have a Or 55 years strong royal hobby.
- 44:02SPEAKER_08: We just had our first meeting there, and that was a ball.
- 44:06SPEAKER_08: We had new faces that, oh, I live in Rockford, the means in Rockford, and they and they attended, and then they kept the store open, and so they were able to you know buy some goods, and it was a real encouraging meeting.
- 44:17SPEAKER_08: And then our hobby town here in Rockford, it's a very highly ranked one and nationwide, and they've opened up their doors, so we're going to have a November meeting there.
- 44:27SPEAKER_08: Oh just having the meeting, it's a state-line area, so there's no specific spot.
- 44:32SPEAKER_08: And I just uh we all just kind of thought we need to kind of move it around a little bit, kind of come to where more of the population might be, and it's paying off.
- 44:40SPEAKER_08: And the stores are are liking it because they're kind to us.
- 44:43SPEAKER_08: And number two, they're they're selling a few kits and a little, you know, a couple bottles of paint and such.
- 44:47SPEAKER_08: So it's uh it's a nice circumstance, but it's a fun club, we're growing, and uh yeah, it's a good thing.
- 44:55SPEAKER_11: Oh, that's awesome.
- 44:56SPEAKER_11: So glad to hear that.
- 44:57SPEAKER_11: Are you guys talking about ever doing any shows or uh competitions or anything like that?
- 45:01SPEAKER_08: We have a show called Samcon, incredible name, right?
- 45:05SPEAKER_08: And uh this is our fifth annual one, it's coming up the third of October.
- 45:11SPEAKER_08: We have a uh a person in our club that lives in Marengo, Illinois, you know, 30, 40-minute drive, that's actually restoring a B-17 proper.
- 45:20SPEAKER_08: And so we're having a special category for B-17s, and um his name's Mike Kellner, and he actually gave a piece of the I've written it down, horizontal inspection cover with the part and serial number stamped on it from the actual airplane, and that's now being made into a trophy for the winner of the B-17 category.
- 45:42SPEAKER_10: Oh, that's cool.
- 45:43SPEAKER_08: And Mike himself is going to be doing the judging on that, and that's getting a tremendous amount.
- 45:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I see the showing off his B-17.
- 45:53SPEAKER_11: Justin's gone.
- 45:55SPEAKER_08: Durant high school, October 3rd, and uh that's getting a tremendous amount of of uh of good attention, and um and we're getting a lot of interest in the show.
- 46:05SPEAKER_08: It's growing, like I said.
- 46:07SPEAKER_08: Our Facebook has grown quite a bit, and and recently I started emailing anybody and everybody that has to do with the modeling industry, just asking for whatever to help us with door prizes or this or that or the other.
- 46:20SPEAKER_08: And the response has been quite amazing.
- 46:23SPEAKER_08: I've gotten 25, 26 companies and people, and all I'm telling them is whatever you've got to give us for a goodie bag or a door prize or whatever, what I'll do on my side is is advertise for you, promote you, and uh with whether you've got a new video as a YouTuber or a new product and that.
- 46:41SPEAKER_08: And the kindness generated is just amazing.
- 46:44SPEAKER_08: It's just amazing.
- 46:45SPEAKER_08: Could I take a moment and read just those that list off?
- 46:48SPEAKER_10: Well, sure.
- 46:49SPEAKER_10: Absolutely.
- 46:50SPEAKER_08: Okay BSI, Bob Smith with the with the adhesives, gonna be uh sending that's time sensitive, so he's gonna be sending uh some CA glue.
- 46:59SPEAKER_08: Um case mate uh publications.
- 47:02SPEAKER_08: They sent us a bunch of catalogs and then six books, military ones like the North of African Campaign 1941, that's the reference books.
- 47:11SPEAKER_08: Um Microscale sent us 16 B17 decals in 48th and 72nd scale.
- 47:17SPEAKER_08: Nice.
- 47:18SPEAKER_08: True Color Paints is going to be sending us some paint.
- 47:21SPEAKER_08: Auto modeler Nanny Colmer uh sent us a hat, some stickers, and some magazines, which was so kind.
- 47:27SPEAKER_08: Um STS decals, you know that.
- 47:29SPEAKER_08: Terry sent us some decals.
- 47:31SPEAKER_08: Evergreen plastic sent us these really neat little bags of sample products, and then also a mat and some CA glue.
- 47:40SPEAKER_08: Turbo Dork is going to be sending us some paint.
- 47:42SPEAKER_08: And the heartwarming story to me is a company I'd never heard of called Roden R-O-D-E-N.
- 47:47SPEAKER_08: Military people would know that when they're in Kyiv, Ukraine.
- 47:50SPEAKER_08: And they sent us uh a box that had unopened the packages that had not been assembled, and then they had bags with numbers on them, and they were five kits, um, which was just amazing from considering the circumstances that they're living under right now.
- 48:04SPEAKER_08: They sent you five kits?
- 48:05SPEAKER_08: They sent us five kits, yeah.
- 48:07SPEAKER_03: It was pretty cool.
- 48:10SPEAKER_08: And our friend Tiffany at Dirt Road Cinderella sent them some cards and stickers, and of course, knowing her, every card had a handwritten, encouraging word on the back of it.
- 48:19SPEAKER_08: That's who she is.
- 48:21SPEAKER_08: She's one of the best.
- 48:22SPEAKER_08: On the bench from Australia's podcast, sent us some stickers.
- 48:26SPEAKER_08: Uh scale finished it today, just sent us some paint, some some uh Q-tip, sort of uh yeah, and um four$25 gift certificates for door prizes.
- 48:40SPEAKER_08: Nice VCG Resins sent us 25 goodie bags with uh an MSD box, a distributor, a battery, and a shifter.
- 48:51SPEAKER_08: $25 for our goodie bags.
- 48:53SPEAKER_08: And yeah, Josh is the best.
- 48:55SPEAKER_08: Um, scale modeling Tim is gonna be sending us some magazines.
- 48:59SPEAKER_08: Fred Henry, our friend there, sent us some cards and stickers from his YouTube channel.
- 49:04SPEAKER_08: Uh Merc Creations, he makes these really crazy wild Camaros and Novas with the fat fenders and that.
- 49:10SPEAKER_08: He's gonna be sending us something.
- 49:11SPEAKER_08: Windsor and Newton Brush Company in England is gonna be sending us product.
- 49:16SPEAKER_08: Uh John from Amateur Scale Model Building is gonna be sending us some stickers.
- 49:20SPEAKER_08: Godhand, yay, they're gonna be sending us some stuff.
- 49:24SPEAKER_08: Um I love their stuff.
- 49:28SPEAKER_08: Rebel is sending a kit and some catalogs.
- 49:31SPEAKER_08: Um, there's one guy contacted him and he kind of modeling or insanity podcasts.
- 49:38SPEAKER_08: A guy named Is it Rick or Ron Riv or something?
- 49:42SPEAKER_08: It's Rob.
- 49:44SPEAKER_08: That's the guy.
- 49:45SPEAKER_08: He's gonna be sent us the stickers.
- 49:49SPEAKER_08: Had to give him a little bit there.
- 49:51SPEAKER_08: Uh uh, and from model building retirement sent us some stickers, Red Wild Diorama.
- 49:56SPEAKER_08: God, do they got beautiful stuff?
- 49:57SPEAKER_08: Send us some stickers, scale motorsports, send us some stickers.
- 50:00SPEAKER_08: So, yeah, we're getting a lot of good support, and uh, yeah, like I said, it's a wonderful community.
- 50:06SPEAKER_11: Well, maybe maybe we should come up with something to send you.
- 50:09SPEAKER_11: Well, I was thinking, but we're gonna send you Mike.
- 50:17SPEAKER_06: Just don't wag it.
- 50:19SPEAKER_06: Yeah, exactly.
- 50:20SPEAKER_06: Don't be the wash, don't feed them after midnight.
- 50:23SPEAKER_06: I mean, yeah, don't don't get a wagon.
- 50:25SPEAKER_10: Yeah, all those listen, if you get a big box on your ports, it smells like Corslight in Copenhagen.
- 50:30SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that's right.
- 50:31SPEAKER_10: There's a lot of holes touched in it.
- 50:32SPEAKER_10: Don't forget the holes in it this time.
- 50:34SPEAKER_10: Yeah, you better open it.
- 50:35SPEAKER_08: And then along that line as well, uh, for our raffle prizes, our local Hobbytown, he did very good by us.
- 50:42SPEAKER_08: He, what's your budget?
- 50:43SPEAKER_08: And we told him, and he he was very kind to us, so we appreciate Hobbytown.
- 50:47SPEAKER_08: And then Brandon Lowe at Squadron did the same thing.
- 50:51SPEAKER_08: And when I went there to the show at IPMS, I said, He's a what do you want?
- 50:54SPEAKER_08: I said, I don't know anything about military.
- 50:55SPEAKER_08: He said, Give me a half an hour.
- 50:58SPEAKER_08: And he itemized things and minded he treat us well.
- 51:01SPEAKER_08: So thank you, Squadron, for their kindness.
- 51:03SPEAKER_08: It was wonderful.
- 51:04SPEAKER_10: Very nice.
- 51:05SPEAKER_08: Good people in the industry, it's all I can say.
- 51:06SPEAKER_08: There's just some good people.
- 51:08SPEAKER_08: There's some I don't there's some shits, you know, in the world, but man, there's some good people doing this work.
- 51:13SPEAKER_10: Well, that's the thing.
- 51:13SPEAKER_10: You gotta it's nice to finally hear instead of all the negative about people, it's good to hear positive, you know, that there's actually good things happening in this hobby.
- 51:24SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 51:25SPEAKER_10: It's good to hear.
- 51:26SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 51:27SPEAKER_08: What was fun is that when I was sending all these emails, I was trying to find things anywhere I could, just any way to resource if they did anything with the modeling industry, and they were gonna get an email from me.
- 51:37SPEAKER_08: And uh and so, like, if I sent something to like God hand in Japan, I'd translate it to Japanese, or if I was sending something to Roden in Ukraine, I'd send it yeah, you'll be able to translate it, you know, just to show them a bit of respect for that.
- 51:49SPEAKER_08: And uh yeah, the response has just been incredible.
- 51:53SPEAKER_11: So that's really awesome.
- 51:54SPEAKER_08: I never even thought about reaching out like that for uh shoot, maybe I'll just write Godhand just because yeah, well, they'll send you the Texas, he'll take care of you.
- 52:04SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 52:05SPEAKER_08: The thing is, it sounds like you know, it it worked out, but and as you guys know, doing the work you guys do, it's work, it's effort to get all those emails out and to to double check back on them, and then they get another mailing three weeks later because I'm kind of tenacious that way, and you know, you'd have to be somewhat organized, and and uh, but it's so worth it because all this stuff.
- 52:23SPEAKER_08: I just want people that when they come in, they get a little get a little blue tag, and it's like call number, and they're gonna maybe win just something.
- 52:29SPEAKER_08: It might be just some stickers and stuff.
- 52:31SPEAKER_08: So what?
- 52:31SPEAKER_08: It's like everyone likes to win stuff.
- 52:34SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah.
- 52:35SPEAKER_08: Well, again, we're all 12-year-old kids, we just got more money than we used to have as 12-year-olds, you know.
- 52:39SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah.
- 52:41SPEAKER_11: Well, a little bit more.
- 52:42SPEAKER_11: Mr.
- 52:43SPEAKER_11: BG has me on the tight budget these days.
- 52:45SPEAKER_11: There you go.
- 52:46SPEAKER_11: But the yeah, the IP minute show that we have here, one of the biggest draws is the the um the drawings, yeah, the raffle.
- 52:55SPEAKER_11: It's just like hey, hey, there's there's models on the table, like shit, numbers are coming up, numbers are coming up.
- 53:00SPEAKER_11: Yeah, but there's models on the table.
- 53:01SPEAKER_11: Shut up, dude.
- 53:02SPEAKER_11: You know, it's like okay, I'm not gonna get between them and their their source of entertainment.
- 53:07SPEAKER_11: That's right.
- 53:07SPEAKER_11: But uh, that's dude.
- 53:09SPEAKER_11: I'm I'm I'm so jazzed for you because you're gonna have to come back and report to us how the show went.
- 53:13SPEAKER_11: Absolutely.
- 53:14SPEAKER_08: Oh, I would love to.
- 53:15SPEAKER_08: I'd be honored to be able to do that for you for sure.
- 53:18SPEAKER_08: We're real excited.
- 53:18SPEAKER_08: We got a wonderful location.
- 53:20SPEAKER_08: It's funny how things work.
- 53:21SPEAKER_08: We we were meeting at a church and uh an event got in their way, and so we just heard recently like it's not gonna happen here, and so we ended up at Durand High School in the open cafeteria, and it's it's bigger, it's better, the parking.
- 53:35SPEAKER_08: It's just how amazing that when something bad happens, something better comes along.
- 53:40SPEAKER_08: So, but we're real excited.
- 53:42SPEAKER_06: Was it divine intervention?
- 53:44SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 53:47SPEAKER_11: I was gonna ask, is it they give access to the tater tots if you're gonna be at the school?
- 53:51SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, no, but we will have an ATM there.
- 53:55SPEAKER_08: We I believe that we will have an ATM on site.
- 53:59SPEAKER_11: Okay, perfect.
- 54:00SPEAKER_11: Wait, there's an ATM at a high school.
- 54:02SPEAKER_11: I don't want to know.
- 54:02SPEAKER_11: Um yes, there is.
- 54:06SPEAKER_11: Oh man, okay, that's gonna be really awesome.
- 54:09SPEAKER_11: So, this is this is your first show for your club, correct?
- 54:11SPEAKER_08: It is, yeah.
- 54:12SPEAKER_08: This is our fifth annual, but this is the first one, and I'm in charge of you know, with my mouth and whatever and my tenacity, it's like let's get some stuff we can give away to people.
- 54:20SPEAKER_11: All right, good.
- 54:21SPEAKER_11: That that's that's gonna be really awesome.
- 54:23SPEAKER_11: And um, dude, you're setting that bar real high.
- 54:25SPEAKER_11: I like that.
- 54:26SPEAKER_11: As a matter of fact, what take a notes at the IPM show, you set your buyer bar really high so for the next person we have to uh go off and do a show for us.
- 54:34SPEAKER_11: They got uh um some big shoes to fill.
- 54:37SPEAKER_11: Feel sorry for that guy.
- 54:40SPEAKER_11: Uh he doesn't wear shoes, and this might be why we don't get emails.
- 54:45SPEAKER_08: Maybe that's right.
- 54:46SPEAKER_08: You'll get one next week, I'll send you one.
- 54:50SPEAKER_10: You know, it also might have something to do with the fact that the email address was wrong for like six months.
- 54:56SPEAKER_10: It was it was whoops, yeah.
- 54:59SPEAKER_10: Was that my fault?
- 55:01SPEAKER_10: I don't know whose fault it was, but it was yeah, it was on the yeah goddamn it, Mike.
- 55:06SPEAKER_11: We don't we don't want to focus on that.
- 55:08SPEAKER_11: Yeah, oh okay, says the guy whose fault it was.
- 55:14SPEAKER_09: Well, you know what the Animaniac said?
- 55:16SPEAKER_09: You can't go back to Constantinople.
- 55:19SPEAKER_11: That's right.
- 55:20SPEAKER_11: It's nobody's business about the Turks.
- 55:23SPEAKER_11: I tell you what, let's go ahead and take a quick break and we'll hear from VCG Resonance by Reese, and we'll be right back after this message.

- 56:29SPEAKER_11: Always good to hear from VCG Resins, even though it is Rob doing the commercial, but you know, Josh is in there, he's he's in our hearts.
- 56:36SPEAKER_11: All right, so we've been talking to Keith McGregor, and we cannot say that without using an accent.
- 56:41SPEAKER_11: Sorry, Keith.
- 56:43SPEAKER_11: Yeah, right, right.
- 56:44SPEAKER_11: It's like uh can't say Pomona without what's a whatever now.
- 56:47SPEAKER_11: What's a what's a Pomona?
- 56:49SPEAKER_11: What's a it's the what's a show?
- 56:51SPEAKER_11: Oh, I like that.
- 56:52SPEAKER_11: That's a good title.
- 56:53SPEAKER_11: The what's a show.
- 56:54SPEAKER_11: So Keith, you were telling us about the show that you've created for the SamCon show, right?
- 56:58SPEAKER_11: That you're working on, and all the sponsorship that you got from that.
- 57:01SPEAKER_11: And while we're on commercial break, Jody has hammered out a deal with him, but we're gonna be um using Jody's fund to uh buy an awards back.
- 57:12SPEAKER_11: So thanks for taking that again, Jody.
- 57:14SPEAKER_11: Absolutely.
- 57:15SPEAKER_11: Somebody got paid.
- 57:16SPEAKER_06: I mean, if they're taking Mikey, I mean it's like free money.
- 57:19SPEAKER_11: Yeah, right, exactly.
- 57:21SPEAKER_11: Might as well send them some a box of kibble, too, you know.
- 57:26SPEAKER_08: Regarding the trophy sponsorship, what we're doing with the local clubs in the area of the Chicago area or wherever, southern Wisconsin and such, we're kind of like saying, if you can help us out, we'll help you out.
- 57:36SPEAKER_08: So the money just kind of circulates, you know.
- 57:38SPEAKER_08: No one you give us$35 and we'll give you$35 in two months when you have your show.
- 57:44SPEAKER_08: And again, it's it's more of a community thing, it's not a competition.
- 57:47SPEAKER_08: We want everyone to be successful.
- 57:49SPEAKER_08: And if you live 90 miles away, yes, go to your club 90 miles away, but we'll support you and then you'll support us.
- 57:54SPEAKER_08: Just like we offer tables to some of the those folks as well to come to our show, the SamCon show, October the third, and uh, you know, put your stuff up there, and we'd be happy to have you.
- 58:05SPEAKER_08: We're not gonna charge you for that, just set up a table and and show us your wares and what you folks have.
- 58:10SPEAKER_11: That's an excellent way to be.
- 58:11SPEAKER_11: Uh with our IPMS club.
- 58:13SPEAKER_11: We actually will be approached by surrounding clubs, you know, New Mexico, uh, Nevada, California, and they'll say, We have a show coming up.
- 58:22SPEAKER_11: Would you guys like to help help us out by buying an awards package?
- 58:25SPEAKER_11: And then we'll do a vote and we'll you know appropriate the money for that.
- 58:29SPEAKER_11: And then um when it comes time for our show, we'll reach out to them and then we'll say so.
- 58:33SPEAKER_11: It's a nice, it's a nice handshake deal going on, gentlemanly agreement.
- 58:36SPEAKER_11: I guess is the best way to say that.
- 58:38SPEAKER_11: Where um we we agree to spend money with each other's clubs by buying awards and stuff like that.
- 58:43SPEAKER_11: So I think that's awesome.
- 58:45SPEAKER_11: I'm glad that you're reaching out to local local clubs around you and uh greasing the wheels, participating what they have going on and asking them to participate with you.
- 58:54SPEAKER_11: So that's awesome.
- 58:55SPEAKER_08: It's just a cost that you don't want one club to have to just take the take the the hit on all those trophies, and and that way if you can share it with one another, then when they come to you, then then you can it goes back right to them.
- 59:07SPEAKER_08: You reciprocate in kind, and then everyone gets their trophies paid for, and you know, the monies they get in the RAF or whatever can help with some other things.
- 59:15SPEAKER_11: Right, right.
- 59:16SPEAKER_11: Because if if you can't get those awards uh taken care of, the club takes the hit.
- 59:21SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 59:21SPEAKER_11: And by the club, I mean that one guy, there's always that one guy who ends up paying for all the awards and is like, well, I'll just pay myself back, and then you never do, you know.
- 59:31SPEAKER_11: So so I I I've I've seen it happen time and time again.
- 59:35SPEAKER_11: So um I'm glad you're doing it that way, dude.
- 59:38SPEAKER_11: And and selling awards packages is it's a weird thing to have to do to go to businesses and be like, you don't know me.
- 59:47SPEAKER_11: I'm putting on this show that you have no idea exists for model cars or model airplanes, whatever.
- 59:52SPEAKER_11: And we would like some money, please, to buy an award, put your name on it, and put it on the table.
- 59:56SPEAKER_11: And they're like, um, okay.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_11: Thanks for having me.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_02: How'd you get past security?
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_02: How'd you get past security?
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_08: Oh, he bought a package too.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_08: I was thinking of going to some of the restaurants in the area and seeing that they might want to sponsor a trophy because these guys are gonna they want to eat somewhere, so we can certainly say, Hey, these guys have helped us out, go have a sandwich over there.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_08: You know, you don't ask, you don't get in a sense, and it's not, you know, it's right and and nothing's free.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_08: If they're gonna give us a trophy sponsorship, then we're gonna give them some help to try to get some people their way.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_08: It's just how it's how life works, you know.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_11: Are you gonna have like flyers in your goodie bags of like explaining who was uh a sponsor or stuff like that?
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_11: Because if you do, see if you can get a QR code from them to actually put with their logo so people can scan those and yes.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_08: In fact, all of our literature has a QR code, which is wonderful to have.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_08: It just gets you right to where you need to be.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_08: But yeah, we're definitely giving people the shout-outs, and especially on Facebook.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_08: When again, when so-and-so has a new YouTube, I always throw it on there, and again, they appreciate it as well, as much as we do getting what they've got to offer for us.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_08: It goes both ways, it just does.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_11: It does, it does.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_11: Excellent.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_11: Well, it sounds like you're doing everything right, man.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_11: And which means I I got no crystal ball near me, but uh it sounds like you're gonna do well with this show.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_08: We hope so.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_08: Yeah, we hope so.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_08: We'll let you know for sure.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_11: Yes, please do.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_11: Please do.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_11: Okay, I tell you what, guys, thank you very much for uh for all of your reporting, Keith.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_11: And you have really set the bar nice and high for the next person that has to do a show report.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_11: Jody's giving you the polite claps.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_11: I tell you what, let's uh let's go on to what's on our benches, okay?
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_11: And Keith, you're definitely qualified to do this part of the show with us, so please stick around.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_11: But uh, we're gonna start with Justin because he's looking at his phone.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_11: I got nothing on my bench.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_11: You got nothing to bench.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_11: Knew that was coming.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_11: Knew that was coming.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I mean, I've been I've been chiseling away here and there, still finding my way back.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_09: That B-17 that I showed up, and obviously this is an audio podcast, and no one actually saw it.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_09: B-17 that I showed up, I actually took out during um last week's Saturday club meet at the uh the local hobby shop, and I did some decaling on it.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_09: That's pretty much been the extent of my hobbying in the past month.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_09: I've got a couple dinosaurs that every now and again I put some paint in the airbrush and spray some paint on them, but for the most part, I'm I'm still trying to find my way back.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_11: I can't remember, are they actual dinosaur models or just old models you have in turn?
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_09: Um you know what?
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_09: If I don't hurry up, it's gonna be just spray painting some fucking coal.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_11: Well, you want to create this, so Jurassic-Y.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_11: It's very Jurassic-Yeol, awesome.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_11: Thank you, Justin.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_11: I'm glad that you're finding your way back, even though so.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_11: Here's my philosophy on this.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_11: You're finding your way back a little bit at a time, right?
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_11: You're not just jumping back onto the bench again.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_11: So if you're doing it in the in the in the small increments of getting back into the things, it'll give you more staying power once you get back to the bench.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_11: Yeah, definitely.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_11: Definitely.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_11: Because then you're not you're not having to rethink anything, or you know, your mind hasn't been changed by something else or whatever.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_09: Like I'll be I'll be sitting in my in my chair watching TV, just kind of mindlessly spacing out going, yeah, I want to work on that.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_09: But I but I never get over to my bench to actually work on it.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_09: So yeah.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm looking at you, bitch.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna work on you.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_11: Thank you very much.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_11: And uh yeah, send me some pictures of the decal job you did on that B17 because I want to see that up closer.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_11: Absolutely.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_11: Or post it on oh, post it on the uh the the Facebook page.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_09: Uh yeah, I can do that too.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_09: We've got a place that we can do that.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_09: We do that.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_11: Uh Jason, what's on your bench, sir?
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_10: Oh, you're gonna have to indulge me because I have a little bit of a story that I have to share because it's it's so about a lot of can't anyway.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_10: Um so I've got the AMT 67 Mercury Cyclone that I just started.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_10: Put that in paint.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_10: Chassis on its way to being done.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_10: I also started the MCV products John Deere cooling tractor, just for the fun.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_10: At like 12 parts.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_10: So it's mostly just kind of spray painting and putting it together.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_10: It's gonna be really cool.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_10: Um, but here's where the story takes place.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_10: I just finished my Tamia Nissan Skyline uh GTR, the street custom version, and it it was less than some there was a higher power that was trying to prevent me from finishing this model, I'm convinced.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_10: Sometimes they do that.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_10: I am convinced.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_10: Um they're summoning things?
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_10: Well, she might be.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_10: The the paint gave me gave me trouble.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_10: Um, it didn't come out as nicely as I thought it would.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_10: Uh that's the least of my worries, though.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_10: And during Final Assembly, uh, I got a big glue spot on the door that I and I didn't even have glue out, so tell me I don't know how that happened.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_10: Sonzi must have been doing something suspicious.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_10: And that same night that I had the glue spot, I was okay, that's it.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_10: I'm done.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_10: I'm gonna set it right here in front of me.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_10: I'm gonna walk away.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_10: And I did so, and then I had a bottle of craft beer that I had on my shelf above my desk with some other bottles explode.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_10: When you say explode, do you mean like pop open and fuzz?
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_10: I mean the bottle broke into two pieces, it exploded.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_09: When you say craft beer, do you mean like blue label like the macaroni and cheese?
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_10: No, no, no.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_10: No.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_10: So this was this was uh like I had some cr I'm a craft beer fan, have been for years, and sometimes if if I have a very rare beer or a discontinued beer or something I know I can't get a hold of or something that has a really cool label, I'll save one and I'll put it up on the shelf.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_10: Unopened because that to me that seemed to be the cool way to do it anyway.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_10: One of them exploded.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_10: Oh my god.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_10: Uh beer on the ceiling, beer on my model stash, beer on the door over there, beer across the room, beer everywhere.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_10: Um, and it waterfalled off of the shelf directly onto that model.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_10: It was a mess, it was a mess.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_10: I I I did manage to rescue it though.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_10: I saved it.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_10: I can't I cleaned it up, I sanded the glue spot down, so you almost can't see it, and it came out pretty good.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_10: So I'm excited that that's done, and it came out as nice as it did with all of its issues.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_11: Man, I I I can't imagine having something like that explode in my hobby room and and not be okay as you are right now about it.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_11: Well, I wasn't okay.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_11: You can ask Jody.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_10: I messaged him that night.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_10: I was not okay.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_10: Um I mean, if you've been in my office and you've seen or you've watched one of my videos, there's these cases up above here that have all my those were covered.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_11: Those are like those are like at my eye level, so yeah.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_10: It like if I was sitting here when that happened.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, dude.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah, it would have been bad.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_10: I would be I would be moist, real moist, yeah.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_11: Yeah, could you imagine if that had happened while we were recording?
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_11: The podcast was just foam.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah, and it was it was loud enough so Heather and I were in the other room watching TV.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_10: This room was completely closed down, and it was like all three cats were like into other parts of the house.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_10: I was like, was that a gunshot?
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_10: What the heck was that?
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_06: Good lord.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_06: Yeah, this is our generation of a broken chair.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_06: It is, it is, it is.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_11: Thank you, thank you for playing, Jody.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_11: You you went the right sort of me.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_11: See you guys later.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_10: That's awesome.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_10: So I did what I did.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_10: I pulled it out, I rescued it.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_10: I actually had to peel it off of the desk, and uh, yeah.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_11: Never in my life.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_11: So now I have a question for you.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_11: Yeah, are you gonna put that in a dior diorama with a police car behind it and the officer going, Have you been drinking, sir?
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_11: Oh beer.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_10: Well, it's funny because I've had I I did a little YouTube video about told the story, and the comments were hilarious.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_10: Don't bring it to a model show, you might get pulled over and recipe for DWI.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_10: Um, you know, all kinds of good stuff.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it was fantastic.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_10: It was fantastic.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it's always nice when the comments can cheer you up.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_10: Exactly.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that's awesome.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_06: But that's so that's what's been going on here.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_06: I'm glad you stuck with it through all of the uh adversity.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_10: So yes, yes, yes, and I will have I will have that at an upcoming show.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_10: I plan to bring it to uh actually the next show I plan to go to.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_11: So okay.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_11: Well, um as an interesting side note, back in the Edwardian period when they wanted to polish wood, they actually used beer to polish the woodwork and uh yeah, gave it a nice glow.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_10: Yeah, here's the problem that model's not wood.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_11: No, but your floors are.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_10: Uh they are, and actually they it does kind of brought back some of the shine.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_11: So yeah, except for the except for the dent that I put in it with a bottle that didn't open.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_11: There's been more beer dropped in this room.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_11: Why is this like a frat house in here?
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_06: Um I mean, I've had my wood polished through lots of consumption of beer, you know.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_09: Um easy there, making me jealous that you're that somebody was polishing yours with your food.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I'm sorry about that.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_11: There it is, off the rail.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_11: Oh my.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_11: You see what you signed down for, Keith?
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_06: Welcome to the show.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_06: Yeah, welcome to the show.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_02: Let's case I ever mentioned it.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_08: It's a pleasure to be here.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_09: Not nearly as pleasurable as Jody's.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_11: Ah, yeah, stop.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_11: You're polishing wood.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_10: Jody gave me pointers for polishing the floor.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_11: There you go.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_11: BG BG came up with archaic wood polishing history, and Jody jumped right in on that.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_11: That's right.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_11: Uh okay.
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_11: I tell you what, why don't we ask Keith what he's got going on on his bench?
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_11: Keith.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_08: I've got um, I was at the 2004 Monds race, and that was a real highlight.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_08: And back then, they had about 30, 35 of the actual cars that you can get in kits and 43rds.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_08: So I'm knocking it away at those.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_08: It's only been 20 years that I'm getting them.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_08: So that's one car I'm working on.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_08: And then I've got a 56 Chevy that I'm working on, the Del Ray.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_08: And I love the I love the I love the two-tone colors of the 50s cars.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_08: They're just you know that one engineer was taking care of the front of the car and one was taking care of the back, and they didn't talk to each other, right?
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_11: What color green did you put on that?
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_08: I don't have the it was scale finishes 56 Chevy Green.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_08: I'm not sure what it was called.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_08: Okay, and then the other thing is I'm working on a Peter build.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_08: I've never built a big truck before for a friend, and I got STS uh just sent me the decals of the local, the local is it's grandson that it's uh he's built it for.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_08: And that's kind of fun.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_08: So nice, cool, and then the only other thing I built in my first ICM kit, oh, and I don't know if you guys have built any, but the level of detail, it's like the starter is four parts the top, the bottom, the front, and the back.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_08: It's detailed like crazy, but it's a gorgeous kit.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_11: So ICM does some crazy detailed stuff, like almost like you think it's like 3D printed resin or something, you know.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I I noticed that too.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_10: Matter of fact, I think it was last year's Branit Con, Jody.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_10: I picked up that ICM Unimog.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah, 135th scale, and it's got more parts than a detailed 125th scale.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_11: Uh ICM is one of those kids that's just like I'll just I'll go to the extreme here.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_11: They want you to put the lugs on the off-road tires, you know.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_11: Right, yeah.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_11: Holy cow.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_08: If two pieces work on this component, yes, then let's make it four.
- 1:12:31SPEAKER_11: Right, yes.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_11: Just because what's crazy is that that model that model is it a model T or model A, or you said A.
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_07: Model A.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_11: Model A.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_11: I have the Model T version, but it's from uh Ravel of Germany.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_11: But what's crazy is the same kit, it's the same kit, but I got it for like 15 bucks less.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_11: I was like, Oh, nice! Oh, really?
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_06: Oh, cool.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_11: Yeah, can't wait.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_11: Yeah, so if you see a um Ravel model A or Model T kit out there, buy it because it's actually not a Ravel kit, it's an ICM kit.
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_08: A lot of those kits they put really nice figures with them, the Bonnie and the gangster ones and the bootlegger ones.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_08: They got some really cool figures as well.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_08: It's uh yeah, it's an outstanding company.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_11: We have a set of 125th 124 scale mechanics for like the Model T car.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_11: It's all ladies, and like they're all wearing high heels and stuff with it.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_11: They have mechanic you uh overalls on and everything.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_11: But I'm like, hmm, okay.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_11: I'm not quite sure who put who got this one past the uh the the the uh standards in uh whatever person, but well done, ICM.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_11: I applaud you.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_11: Cool, and what else you got going on, Keith?
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_08: That was it.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_08: Those are pretty much the four or five that have I got going.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_08: I tend to have that many going because I get to a point where like I get frustrated or something, and so I just grab something else, and and then within a week, two or three of them all come together and they're complete.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_08: So it's good, yeah.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_11: Yeah, just the way it works.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_11: All of a sudden, wow, they're all done.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_11: What do I do now?
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_11: Awesome, man.
- 1:14:01SPEAKER_11: Well, I I can't wait to see how that model A turns out for you.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_11: And the uh the Del Ray is looking beautiful.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_11: Uh, you you've been posting pictures online of the of the Del Ray, correct?
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_08: No, I have I don't normally do post too many pictures of my builds.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_08: Um, yeah, I should though.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_08: Why not?
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_08: Man, I enjoy the airbrush, and that's probably my favorite part of the uh of the hobby.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_08: I just I've got I'm ashamed to say that I got probably 45 models downstairs where the bodies are all painted and buffed and put back in the box, ready for the next person that inherits the inherits the kids.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_08: Wow.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_08: I've got all the I've got all the airs that are interested.
- 1:14:37SPEAKER_11: I enjoy that.
- 1:14:39SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that's awesome.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_11: I hear so many people that are like timid about the airbrushing thing, so I'm glad to hear that you you actually love it a lot.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_08: You know, it's so funny.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_08: We had we had a conversation earlier where people kind of talk about or you still use a rattle can.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_08: It's like rattle can is an art in itself.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_08: Um, I can't use a rattle can.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_08: I worry about it spittering and spattering, and airbrush I just feel comfortable with, and it's like rattle can't a lesser way of doing it, it's just a different way of doing it.
- 1:15:07SPEAKER_08: The results are just outstanding.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_11: And I I I do both.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_11: Rattle cans are great for filling in large fields, and um the airbrush is great for doing the detail work.
- 1:15:18SPEAKER_11: But if I have been uh rattle canning earlier that day and then I come in to actually do the airbrushing, uh I gotta take a break because I'll naturally want to shake the airbrush in between passes.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_11: Oh gosh, that can be bad.
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_11: The garage floor shows it.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_11: I didn't make the noise I expect.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_11: Ah no.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_11: Yeah, so well, thank you very much, Keith.
- 1:15:49SPEAKER_11: Thank you, appreciate that.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_11: Jody, what have you got on your bench, sir?
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_06: Oh, a few things going on.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_06: So I've been diligently working away at the Blue Ox model shop street machine group build.
- 1:16:01SPEAKER_06: I'm building a 69 Cobra Jet Mustang.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_06: Found a really good reference image, yeah.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_06: I think it was last year, and I was like, it just had a really great look, and I was like, I'm gonna build that at some point, and now is the time.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_06: So really trying to slow things down.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_06: You know, we've talked about this a bunch, but slow things down, add more detail.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_06: Every part of the model is a detail, right?
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_06: Or every every piece is a model in itself.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_06: So um it's turning out really good, you know.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_06: I first time using uh MCW finishes, you know.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_06: I've always steered clear of wanting to spend too much money for a little bottle of paint, you know.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_06: I'm a use of craft paint, cheap, cheap paint guy, you know, but worked really well.
- 1:16:41SPEAKER_06: It's painted uh Al Capoco blue and the interior is um light alcohol blue metallic.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_06: That turned out really well.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_06: Got good detail on the engine, did a bunch of detail on the chassis.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_06: Um I've been posting regular updates over on Jason's uh Blue Ox Model Shop page.
- 1:16:57SPEAKER_06: You know, I kind of showed what I was gonna do and you know said, you know, did people want to see a build thread?
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_06: So I've been kind of keeping up with that.
- 1:17:05SPEAKER_06: So it's come along good.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it looks really nice.
- 1:17:09SPEAKER_06: I've got the interior detail is next pretty much, and then once that's done, you gotta kind of put some of the kit together.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_06: I I want to do um you know brake line and gas line detail on the underside, but the chassis and all that stuff needs to be in first to kind of be able to do that because it's okay kind of a two-piece thing, it's kind of weird, but so I hope to have that done.
- 1:17:30SPEAKER_06: My goal is to have that done for PATCON so end of September.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_06: Shouldn't be a good one.
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_06: Oh, sweet, okay.
- 1:17:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:17:38SPEAKER_06: And then um I started on so the Mount Mansfield Scale Model Club.
- 1:17:43SPEAKER_06: We do we try to do two or three group builds a year, and um, we're doing an AFV build now, and I've got this Tamiya Challenger Mark III tank that I started on.
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_06: Um most of the uh the uh hull all built and cleaned up a lot of parts and pieces, but I gotta continue building that and then that'll be ready for paint here pretty quick.
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_06: And then uh I just started the um Aoshima DeLorean kit for the next uh Automarbler magazine uh kit review.
- 1:18:12SPEAKER_06: So I've clipped clipped parts and pieces and started doing a little bit of detail painting, and um I've got over my left shoulder over here, I got a bunch of stuff on trees and stuff to go down and do a do a good paint session, get that done, and then I'll focus the extra time to get the body sorted out and all that stuff and get a good paint job on it.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_11: So I'm curious to know what you're gonna use for the for the color of that for the for the stainless steel.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I so I've got so I've got some um Mr.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_06: Hobby super metallics, so just it's just great paint, you know.
- 1:18:45SPEAKER_06: And I've I bought it's kind of tough to get it.
- 1:18:47SPEAKER_06: And um, you know, in my quest to find good products for that metal finished look, um, I just happened to buy those, you know.
- 1:18:56SPEAKER_06: I bought a couple jars of each and I've been slowly working through that.
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_06: And they've got a stainless steel that's actually really nice.
- 1:19:01SPEAKER_06: So if you put that over black, black primer, you know, light coats, you can get a really nice, it'll really pop.
- 1:19:08SPEAKER_06: So my plan is to do that.
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_06: Maybe some other tricks and there I don't want to give away too much, but uh I'm gonna go for a good stainless steel finish uh that that car would have had the detail stuff, not as much on that, but really focus on the the exterior finish is the is the goal.
- 1:19:23SPEAKER_06: So those are pretty much the three primary things.
- 1:19:26SPEAKER_06: I want to get that Mustang done, and then um keep working on this tank, and then um we'll get the magazine car done, move on to the next thing.
- 1:19:34SPEAKER_06: So the six kits looking at me over here off to my right saying, Why haven't you touched me in months?
- 1:19:39SPEAKER_06: You bastard.
- 1:19:40SPEAKER_11: So that's it for me.
- 1:19:42SPEAKER_11: Right on, right on.
- 1:19:43SPEAKER_11: I was just thinking about that uh the Ocean uh DeLorean kit where the fit and finish on that model kit's way better than the actual car.
- 1:19:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah, uh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:19:52SPEAKER_06: No, no, no, no doubt about it.
- 1:19:54SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, it's a it's a just a cursory glance, a really nice kit, you know.
- 1:19:58SPEAKER_06: The not huge part count, but you know, there's enough there to be impactful.
- 1:20:04SPEAKER_06: And um, I think it's one of those things, you know, you've got a good starting platform to do lots of stuff with it if you wanted to, you know.
- 1:20:11SPEAKER_06: And um and the nuts and bolts are there, you know.
- 1:20:15SPEAKER_06: It's just how you kind of put those together.
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_06: So it's a pretty cool kit.
- 1:20:18SPEAKER_06: You know, I'd be inclined maybe to buy a second one and maybe kind of go a little bit crazy with it, you know.
- 1:20:23SPEAKER_06: So right on.
- 1:20:24SPEAKER_11: Well, don't get it from the same place I got mine from Amazon.
- 1:20:27SPEAKER_11: Oh my god, that took like 10 months to come in.
- 1:20:30SPEAKER_11: That's great.
- 1:20:31SPEAKER_11: I forgot about that.
- 1:20:33SPEAKER_11: It did, that's right.
- 1:20:34SPEAKER_11: We had like DeLorean watch 2025 going on or whatever it was.
- 1:20:37SPEAKER_11: We did.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_11: That's right.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_11: Yeah, okay.
- 1:20:40SPEAKER_11: Well, awesome.
- 1:20:41SPEAKER_11: Everybody's doing a great job.
- 1:20:42SPEAKER_11: And for me, you might be asking yourself silently, BG, what have you got on your bench?
- 1:20:46SPEAKER_11: Well, I'll tell you the same shit I had last recording, only it's in different places on the bench.
- 1:20:52SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I moved things around.
- 1:20:54SPEAKER_11: Uh, I've actually finished the Walker Bulldog tank, and then I jumped right into another armored vehicle, which is an M109 uh self-propelled gun.
- 1:21:03SPEAKER_11: You guys probably don't care about that, but it's not a great kit.
- 1:21:07SPEAKER_11: And we were talking about this at work the other day, how there's you know, kind of jokingly, as there's life's too short for shitty kits.
- 1:21:15SPEAKER_11: And I'm like, well, well, hang on now.
- 1:21:17SPEAKER_11: Uh, we were talking to Frank Dinati about this on our last uh uh Sunday live stream.
- 1:21:22SPEAKER_11: Yep, and Frank had a great, great philosophy about it, which is kind of my philosophy now as well.
- 1:21:28SPEAKER_11: Where I've done a couple of Tamiya armor vehicles, I'm not an armor builder, but I did a good job with them, so now I have to ask myself, is it me or is it the model?
- 1:21:36SPEAKER_11: Are the models really easy to build?
- 1:21:37SPEAKER_11: That's why they turned out really well, or am I actually got some talent going on that I don't know about?
- 1:21:43SPEAKER_11: Well, let me build this kit, which is an old italery kit.
- 1:21:46SPEAKER_11: And back in the day, when this kit came out, this was actually a decent kit.
- 1:21:50SPEAKER_11: But you flash forward um a hundred years later, and it's like, um, it's not that great a kit.
- 1:21:56SPEAKER_11: So should I try practicing my model building skills on a kit that I got for absolutely free because it was offered to me by a club friend and uh which now I have actually spent well over fifty dollars on aftermarket stuff for, so it's not that free.
- 1:22:10SPEAKER_11: Yeah, right.
- 1:22:12SPEAKER_11: The expensive kits are the free ones, but now I'm like, I'm testing my skills on this thing and and we'll see how it goes.
- 1:22:18SPEAKER_11: It's not not the easiest build in the world to do, but all the bodywork bricks and stuff that I have learned from working on model cars has actually applied themselves very well to this build, to the point where a couple of armor builders that are that are in the IPMS club are like, I how'd you do that?
- 1:22:34SPEAKER_11: And I'm like, Well, this is an old car modeling technique, and they're like, Son of a bitch, okay, all right, yeah.
- 1:22:42SPEAKER_11: So it's always the new guy that comes up with the surprises, you know, type of thing.
- 1:22:45SPEAKER_11: Where like the side of the the side of the uh the the uh tank hole was actually all rippled and stuff, not in a good way, not like an Arnold Schwarzenegger way, but it had lots of divots and stuff in it because of all the sinkholes.
- 1:22:57SPEAKER_11: So instead of filling all that stuff, I just sanded it smooth and then slapped on another piece of styrene card and just covered up all that stuff, just reskin the whole thing.
- 1:23:06SPEAKER_11: And people are like, Oh, that's actually actually that's actually kind of a cool idea.
- 1:23:09SPEAKER_11: I'm like, no, it's the lazy way to do shit, and that's the name of the game here at this shop.
- 1:23:15SPEAKER_11: So that's basically what I got going on, plus you know, thousands of other things too, but uh, but that's me in a nutshell.
- 1:23:22SPEAKER_11: Uh I tell you what, let's uh let's do another quick sponsor break, and we'll be all right back after this.

- 1:25:13SPEAKER_10: That's a show you can uh swing into and talk to both Jody and I, and I believe Brian Denklow and uh all sorts of cool people will be at that show, so swing in.
- 1:25:26SPEAKER_10: Then October 4th, my former uh model club, the classic plastic model club's 32nd annual model car exhibition.
- 1:25:36SPEAKER_10: That's a lot of words.
- 1:25:38SPEAKER_10: That's a lot of words held at the Lawrence Elks Hall, 652 Andover Street, Lawrence, Massachusetts.
- 1:25:44SPEAKER_10: Uh the show themes are 32 Fords and Long Roof Vehicles.
- 1:25:52SPEAKER_10: Love that long roof.
- 1:25:54SPEAKER_10: Long roof, okay.
- 1:25:56SPEAKER_06: I'll be there signing autographs all day.
- 1:25:58SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah.
- 1:25:58SPEAKER_10: Jody will be there signing autographs, and I don't think his will be 10 bucks.
- 1:26:02SPEAKER_10: I was just gonna ask.
- 1:26:04SPEAKER_10: Just five dollars, yeah.
- 1:26:06SPEAKER_11: 225.
- 1:26:07SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:26:08SPEAKER_11: He's ready to sign, he's ready to sign all of your long roofs, folks.
- 1:26:12SPEAKER_10: Yes, he'll sign all of your long roofs, five bucks for an autograph, ten bucks for an autograph, and a smooch.
- 1:26:17SPEAKER_06: There you go.
- 1:26:18SPEAKER_10: Then lastly, October 18th, Granite Con 33.
- 1:26:22SPEAKER_10: That's presented by IPMS Granite State Modelers and held at the Where Middle School, Route 114, Where, New Hampshire.
- 1:26:32SPEAKER_10: I love it.
- 1:26:35SPEAKER_06: I'll be there as well, wrestling Jason.
- 1:26:37SPEAKER_10: Yes, we will be there.
- 1:26:39SPEAKER_10: Gymnasium.
- 1:26:39SPEAKER_10: We'll be at that show.
- 1:26:40SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 1:26:41SPEAKER_09: We get video footage of that, please.
- 1:26:42SPEAKER_09: Absolutely.
- 1:26:44SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:47SPEAKER_09: I love peanut butter.
- 1:26:49SPEAKER_10: Oh, he's very desperate.
- 1:26:51SPEAKER_06: Oh Greco Roman peanut butter wrestling.
- 1:26:55SPEAKER_10: Jesus Christ.
- 1:26:57SPEAKER_06: Crunchy.
- 1:26:58SPEAKER_09: Bedtime's gonna be fun tonight, guys.
- 1:27:00SPEAKER_11: Oh, isn't this isn't there like a little red box right outside your door of your apartment building?
- 1:27:05SPEAKER_11: It's like a case of emergency break glass for for a hoe or something like that.
- 1:27:12SPEAKER_11: I don't know what area Pennsylvania live in.
- 1:27:14SPEAKER_11: All right.
- 1:27:15SPEAKER_11: Apparently, the good part.
- 1:27:17SPEAKER_11: Yeah, Keith, I tell you what, why don't you plug your show?
- 1:27:21SPEAKER_08: It is the fifth annual SAMCON, October 3rd at Durand High School, Durand, Illinois, 200 West South Street, and it's an IPMS Region 5 event.
- 1:27:34SPEAKER_11: Ah, very good.
- 1:27:35SPEAKER_11: Very nice.
- 1:27:36SPEAKER_08: Fantastic.
- 1:27:37SPEAKER_11: So, uh note here from Iceman Collections the 2026 tournament build-off hosted by Iceman Collections is underway.
- 1:27:44SPEAKER_11: Follow the builders' progress over on Facebook in the Iceman Collections group.
- 1:27:49SPEAKER_11: They also posted the 20 great sponsors that helped put together the huge prize packages, and we are one of those.
- 1:27:56SPEAKER_11: We are.
- 1:27:57SPEAKER_09: I like huge packages.
- 1:27:58SPEAKER_11: So remember the actual Tournament's gonna end on 1010, so that's October 10th.
- 1:28:03SPEAKER_11: It's the only bracket style build-off.
- 1:28:07SPEAKER_11: Justin, read your email.
- 1:28:09SPEAKER_11: Emails! It's emails!
- 1:28:13SPEAKER_09: Sit back, ladies and gentlemen, and enjoy this tale.
- 1:28:16SPEAKER_09: This email is written to us by Steve Demo, or demo, depending on what part of the country you're from.
- 1:28:22SPEAKER_09: Greetings from Indiana.
- 1:28:23SPEAKER_09: He's from Indiana.
- 1:28:24SPEAKER_09: I'd like to start off by saying Tropical Glitz Paint is amazing.
- 1:28:29SPEAKER_09: One point that wasn't mentioned, and in parentheses, I don't think, was that it doesn't craze the plastic like lacquer base paints do.
- 1:28:37SPEAKER_09: Or at least he has not had that issue.
- 1:28:40SPEAKER_09: Next thing is, I think we need a Justin Rance segment like the Insanity has Riv Rance.
- 1:28:46SPEAKER_09: There's plenty of material on the Book of Faces.
- 1:28:49SPEAKER_09: Just an idea.
- 1:28:52SPEAKER_09: And I'll give him some fuel.
- 1:28:54SPEAKER_09: Yes, Mr.
- 1:28:55SPEAKER_09: Surfacer 1500 Black is getting hard to find.
- 1:28:58SPEAKER_09: But if you use Rustoleum Primer and Paint in one, you would need it.
- 1:29:04SPEAKER_09: Not sure exactly what that means.
- 1:29:06SPEAKER_09: While also complaining about kit prices.
- 1:29:09SPEAKER_09: Great show! And keep up the great work.
- 1:29:12SPEAKER_09: Steve from Crazy Scale Models.
- 1:29:17SPEAKER_11: Steve, I think I think you have missed your calling, and you should change your channel name to Steve the Trigger Guy.
- 1:29:25SPEAKER_11: Because you're triggering Justin all over the place.
- 1:29:27SPEAKER_11: I know, right?
- 1:29:29SPEAKER_09: So I did like the idea, but I don't want to take the full-on rants.
- 1:29:34SPEAKER_09: And I and I did.
- 1:29:35SPEAKER_09: I had a little a little something that I wanted to get off of my chesticles.
- 1:29:40SPEAKER_09: Um actually took place kind of today.
- 1:29:42SPEAKER_09: The group shall remain nameless, the offender shall remain nameless.
- 1:29:47SPEAKER_09: And it's not so much a rant, it's just a overall tone of fatherly disappointment.
- 1:29:53SPEAKER_09: Because I sometimes think that that's worse.
- 1:29:56SPEAKER_02: That's even worse.
- 1:29:57SPEAKER_09: All too familiar with that.
- 1:29:59SPEAKER_09: There was a post, and I and it was probably on several pages, because we know how Facebook works.
- 1:30:04SPEAKER_09: Everybody will post everything on multiple pages just to get their their thoughts out there.
- 1:30:11SPEAKER_09: This gentleman had some issues with a kit.
- 1:30:15SPEAKER_09: I don't know what his background isn't building.
- 1:30:17SPEAKER_09: He could be brand new to the hobby, he could be an old hand, never had a problem in 30 years, kind of guy.
- 1:30:23SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 1:30:23SPEAKER_09: All I know is he said the kit had some shortcomings.
- 1:30:27SPEAKER_09: Those were my words, but that's pretty much what it was.
- 1:30:30SPEAKER_09: And multiple times in one particular group, I saw people piling onto him stating, it's all about the builder.
- 1:30:40SPEAKER_09: Never had a problem.
- 1:30:41SPEAKER_09: Guys, come on now.
- 1:30:43SPEAKER_09: Let's let's let's think about this logically.
- 1:30:45SPEAKER_09: How do we know that this guy isn't a one-armed deaf mute carney?
- 1:30:50SPEAKER_09: You know, like we don't know what challenges he's got in his life, we don't know what his history is of building.
- 1:30:56SPEAKER_09: He could be brand new to the thing, 77 years old and blind in one eye.
- 1:31:01SPEAKER_09: He had trouble with the kit.
- 1:31:03SPEAKER_09: Instead of saying it's all the builder, nobody else has had problems.
- 1:31:07SPEAKER_09: Why don't we ask him where his shortcomings were and how we can help him fix it?
- 1:31:12SPEAKER_09: That's one thing I've found in the model car world we see more of than in any other genre is this 30 years, never had a problem.
- 1:31:22SPEAKER_09: Oh, you must not be a very good builder.
- 1:31:24SPEAKER_09: Like, no, stop this bullshit, car guys.
- 1:31:27SPEAKER_09: Look, see, now I'm starting to rant and I'm starting to rob riv reveal.
- 1:31:32SPEAKER_09: I don't want to do that.
- 1:31:33SPEAKER_09: It's late, my voice is deepening, I want the fatherly disappointment.
- 1:31:40SPEAKER_09: So, guys, let's be cool to each other.
- 1:31:43SPEAKER_09: If we see someone that says, hey, I you know, this kid wasn't the best, you know.
- 1:31:47SPEAKER_09: Instead of piling onto this guy that he's just an inadequate builder, let's ask him what his shortcomings were and where he thought it could be different.
- 1:31:56SPEAKER_09: How about that?
- 1:31:57SPEAKER_09: Let's be kind to each other, people.
- 1:31:59SPEAKER_09: Bad out.
- 1:32:00SPEAKER_10: All right.
- 1:32:01SPEAKER_10: Yes, agreed.
- 1:32:02SPEAKER_10: If you can't be kind, learn to scroll.
- 1:32:04SPEAKER_10: That's right.
- 1:32:05SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:32:06SPEAKER_09: If you can't be kind, rewind.
- 1:32:08SPEAKER_11: It's just amazing how much courage folks have by being behind a keyboard.
- 1:32:12SPEAKER_11: Absolutely.
- 1:32:13SPEAKER_11: Pretty amazing.
- 1:32:14SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:32:14SPEAKER_11: So I tell you what, uh, with with that story, Justin, I took a phone call today at work uh from a builder.
- 1:32:20SPEAKER_11: Sounded like he was an older gentleman, but he was having difficulty with doing the decals for a particular ship that he was building.
- 1:32:27SPEAKER_11: And so he was a ship model.
- 1:32:29SPEAKER_11: Yeah, so I so he's a yeah, he's a ship modeler.
- 1:32:32SPEAKER_11: So I uh I took the phone call because it was one of those deals of like uh BG's not moving fast enough here.
- 1:32:39SPEAKER_11: Okay, great.
- 1:32:41SPEAKER_11: But I had a lovely conversation with the guy, and he he sounded like somebody who who has just never come across this particular issue before, and he hadn't seen a decal set where you have to have the white field of the it was a Japanese uh cruiser, the white field of the flag background, and then the uh red star uh sunburst from the um the rising sun, and then you have to put another white circle on top of that starburst, and then you have to put the red circle on top of the white circle.
- 1:33:10SPEAKER_11: So he was a little confused by all this type of stuff, but by just asking a few questions, he was able to understand where he was with the with the build, and then was able to understand where where he was at with everything, and then was able to just explain to him that in some cases it it's easier for the printer to do these decals layered like this, especially since that uh rising sun thing is supposed to have a very, very fine white pinstripe around the around the outside of it, a border, yeah, a border, thank you.
- 1:33:40SPEAKER_11: And we don't talk about that here in Arizona borders, but um, but yeah, so it was very easy to to figure out where this guy was and then help him with his issue.
- 1:33:53SPEAKER_11: And if we could just do that a little bit more online rather than blaming somebody for the mistakes that they may or have made may or may not have made with a model, I think we'd all get along a little better.
- 1:34:04SPEAKER_09: And you know what?
- 1:34:05SPEAKER_09: The best part of that entire exchange with me, and actually it was two other uh model builders, it devolved quickly into oh, it looks like someone got their panic in a twist.
- 1:34:16SPEAKER_09: Did I hurt your feelings, cupcake?
- 1:34:19SPEAKER_09: No, you didn't hurt my feelings, not at all.
- 1:34:22SPEAKER_09: But don't be a dick, yeah, yeah.
- 1:34:25SPEAKER_09: Like, don't be a dick.
- 1:34:26SPEAKER_08: Yep, that's the logo of our new t-shirts that we're working on for our model club.
- 1:34:31SPEAKER_03: Don't be a big package, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:34:36SPEAKER_03: Perfect.
- 1:34:37SPEAKER_11: Okay, let's move to New Hampshire, no Vermont, and talk about model kits with Jody.
- 1:34:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so I got a few things written down here.
- 1:34:46SPEAKER_06: I'll do things a little bit backwards this time.
- 1:34:48SPEAKER_06: Usually I'm always looking at kind of the more domestic stuff, right?
- 1:34:52SPEAKER_06: That comes along.
- 1:34:53SPEAKER_06: But I know my buddy Jason over there is a big uh big foreign car guy.
- 1:34:57SPEAKER_06: So a lot of these I was thinking of you when I put this list together.
- 1:35:00SPEAKER_06: I appreciate you.
- 1:35:01SPEAKER_06: You're welcome.
- 1:35:02SPEAKER_06: And we got Keith here too, so he'll appreciate a couple of these.
- 1:35:06SPEAKER_06: So um I found a good resource online that really lists out a lot of the you know, um, foreign kits, if you will.
- 1:35:13SPEAKER_06: Aoshima, Pujimi, Hasegawa, good reference.
- 1:35:18SPEAKER_06: So I kind of went through the normal channels to find those, then I found that and then then went out and kind of searched to to kind of look these up.
- 1:35:27SPEAKER_06: So uh first one is a uh Hasigawa Toyota 88C.
- 1:35:33SPEAKER_06: It's an Imsa GTP car.
- 1:35:36SPEAKER_06: So the box it's uh it's a 1989 Daytona uh livery on 24 scale, and uh that's set to be released here um September of 26th.
- 1:35:47SPEAKER_06: So that'll be out pretty quick.
- 1:35:48SPEAKER_06: Very basic, uh, basic, not a lot of like fancy decaling like some of the uh IMSA cars would have.
- 1:35:55SPEAKER_06: Fairly basic, yeah, but uh kind of a kind of a neat kit.
- 1:35:58SPEAKER_06: Uh I saw that and I was like, that's got Jason's name written all over it, and Keith McGregor.
- 1:36:03SPEAKER_06: Uh next one on the list, another Sagawa, 1983 Starlet.
- 1:36:08SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah, Asano Racing Service.
- 1:36:11SPEAKER_06: Uh great uh great box art, really cool kit.
- 1:36:15SPEAKER_06: Those little Starlet Toyota Starlets are just awesome.
- 1:36:19SPEAKER_06: That's also 124th uh scale set to be released here, nine of 26.
- 1:36:25SPEAKER_06: And my assumption is I didn't really find a lot of detail relative to parts count and all those things, right?
- 1:36:31SPEAKER_06: They're they're curbside kits, I'm sure.
- 1:36:33SPEAKER_06: Yeah, which most of them are.
- 1:36:35SPEAKER_06: But uh really, really great um box art, great liberally, you know, livery, good inspiration, right?
- 1:36:42SPEAKER_06: That's the thing we get from these.
- 1:36:43SPEAKER_06: Exactly.
- 1:36:44SPEAKER_06: And then moving on to kind of the more mainstream stuff, uh AMT 1963 Pontiac Tempest Laman's convertible.
- 1:36:53SPEAKER_06: That's uh 125th scale.
- 1:36:55SPEAKER_06: It's an AMT kit that's slotted for uh September 26th.
- 1:36:59SPEAKER_06: That's cool.
- 1:37:00SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so I didn't get a lot of detail on either that either.
- 1:37:03SPEAKER_06: I don't know if it's uh if it's like um you know, they've got these craftsman uh plus kits out, right?
- 1:37:08SPEAKER_06: I I don't know if that's what it is.
- 1:37:11SPEAKER_06: My assumption that's what it is, but I haven't really heard too much about that specifically coming out.
- 1:37:15SPEAKER_11: That that would slot right into that category, no problem with all the Tempest Le Mans.
- 1:37:20SPEAKER_11: That's awesome.
- 1:37:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:37:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's got a good look to it.
- 1:37:23SPEAKER_06: I'm sure it's an old uh promo kit, probably, right?
- 1:37:26SPEAKER_06: Is where it started.
- 1:37:28SPEAKER_06: So that's coming out here in September.
- 1:37:30SPEAKER_06: The AMT 1982 Mitsubishi L200 tiltbed pickup.
- 1:37:34SPEAKER_06: I Keith stole my thunder earlier.
- 1:37:37SPEAKER_06: Uh one 125th scale, uh, that's coming out here in September as well.
- 1:37:44SPEAKER_06: And that's uh that kit's been kind of kicking around for a little bit, you know.
- 1:37:48SPEAKER_06: I think there's been different iterations of that over the years, but big mini truck uh, I know Jason or Justin's had a anchor in for a mini truck too.
- 1:37:55SPEAKER_06: And um, yeah, I know that there's there's been a few clubs that have done uh and shows where that's been the theme.
- 1:38:01SPEAKER_06: So if that's your shtick, be a cool kit to uh get your hands on, especially with 3D printed parts and all the stuff we got available today.
- 1:38:08SPEAKER_06: You could do something really, really cool with that.
- 1:38:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah, all the like the pumps and stuff like that you can get that are 3D printed, those are and all the uh Joelle's got all the stereo equipment over there, you know, and uh sub boxes, and you could do something really, really cool with that.
- 1:38:23SPEAKER_09: Yeah, tell me how to live my life.
- 1:38:25SPEAKER_06: Fair enough.
- 1:38:26SPEAKER_06: Fair enough.
- 1:38:28SPEAKER_06: Fair enough.
- 1:38:29SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 1:38:30SPEAKER_06: Um, and then we've got um MPC is coming out with a uh it's an MPC Chevy Camaro 1981 Pro Street.
- 1:38:40SPEAKER_06: So again, I there's not a lot of detail on that.
- 1:38:42SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's so that's what it says, but my definition of Pro Street, right, for the the 90s era Pro Street was big fat meats under the back of the car.
- 1:38:51SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and I don't and I don't know the box art didn't really look like maybe that's what it was.
- 1:38:55SPEAKER_06: It's an earlier kit that's been released and re-released, new parts, reboxed, new decals.
- 1:39:01SPEAKER_06: So I don't know if they've done any sort of new tooling on that, you know.
- 1:39:04SPEAKER_06: The 79 Nova Pro Street kit that they did there somewhat recently, right?
- 1:39:09SPEAKER_06: That's more of a traditional ProStreet car.
- 1:39:12SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 1:39:12SPEAKER_06: Where I don't know that this is necessarily that, but it's another Camaro kit, you know, it's kind of cool.
- 1:39:17SPEAKER_06: You know, I built the Ravel Stranger Things Z28 there for the magazine uh earlier this year.
- 1:39:23SPEAKER_06: I think I did that.
- 1:39:24SPEAKER_06: So, you know, that um that generation, if you will, of Camaro, right, is really starting to come into its own collectibility to get more rare.
- 1:39:33SPEAKER_06: I had a I had a 79 uh Z28 back in the day, black and gray was a really cool car.
- 1:39:39SPEAKER_06: So this kind of falls within that, you know.
- 1:39:42SPEAKER_06: But that's an October 26th release that's coming.
- 1:39:45SPEAKER_06: The last one to note on here, which we've talked about and kicked around, finally, is the NPC Home Alone Dodge Ram Band.
- 1:39:53SPEAKER_06: No kidding.
- 1:39:54SPEAKER_06: Nice one 25th.
- 1:39:56SPEAKER_06: Uh, that's slotted for September of 26th.
- 1:39:59SPEAKER_06: So I got a feeling I don't know that's gonna sell out, but I got a feeling that's gonna be pretty popular.
- 1:40:05SPEAKER_06: You know, I mean, just just just the age of the movie, right?
- 1:40:08SPEAKER_06: A lot of us that were in the hobby got out, raised kids, saw the movie, get back into the hobby.
- 1:40:15SPEAKER_06: Yep, I think there's gonna be some popularity with that.
- 1:40:17SPEAKER_06: So yeah, that may be a cool one to get your hands on.
- 1:40:20SPEAKER_06: And I think that was an earlier uh MPC kit, right?
- 1:40:23SPEAKER_06: That they added new tooling and some new parts and things like that to just kind of build that out.
- 1:40:29SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so that's kind of neat.
- 1:40:30SPEAKER_06: Looking forward to that coming out, may get my hands on that.
- 1:40:34SPEAKER_06: But uh again, lots of cool kits coming out, you know.
- 1:40:36SPEAKER_06: Yeah, a lot a lot of good foreign kits, foreign manufacturers, the Hasigawa, Aoshima, those guys are always popping those things out, you know.
- 1:40:44SPEAKER_06: It's a lot of reboxing, rebranding, but uh great kits.
- 1:40:48SPEAKER_06: Again, I'm doing this uh DeLorean's first time doing an Aoshima kit.
- 1:40:52SPEAKER_06: I've never built one, so kind of dabbling, yeah, dabbling my toes in it, and depending on how that goes, maybe I'd be inclined to want to grab some more.
- 1:40:59SPEAKER_11: So, yeah, dude.
- 1:41:01SPEAKER_11: That's it for new kits.
- 1:41:02SPEAKER_11: Thank you.
- 1:41:03SPEAKER_11: I'm curious to know how you're gonna like once you get into that DeLorean kit, how how you like building the Oshima kits.
- 1:41:10SPEAKER_11: So you'll have to keep us informed on that.
- 1:41:12SPEAKER_11: Absolutely.
- 1:41:13SPEAKER_11: Yep.
