- 1:30takes us on a journey through the scriptures, revealing to you the amazing truth
- 1:35that God sees you and sees you as something special.
- 1:39Remember, you are loved. Jesus loves you.
- 1:43Hello, and thank you for joining us in this podcast of Woman at the Well Ministries. Let's pray.
- 1:49Our kind and most gracious, dear Heavenly Father, Lord, we thank you for the
- 1:52opportunity to come before you.
- 1:54Lord, we thank you for your precious word, the greatest love letter ever written.
- 1:58We pray that you would open our hearts and our minds and that we would hear
- 2:01exactly what you would have for us to hear from this reading.
- 2:04Lord, that we would be inclined to move upon the convictions that you put in our hearts.
- 2:11Lord, and that you would take captive every thought in our mind that doesn't
- 2:15belong there. Lord, thank you for loving us.
- 2:18Thank you for never leaving us. And Lord, I pray that you would remove me from
- 2:22this message as far as the east is from the west.
- 2:25And Lord, that your words would be what is heard, and that your words would be what is understood.
- 2:32And Lord, that all that you have given me would be given to those that listen.
- 2:37And in Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
- 2:41We're coming out of Luke chapter 19, verses 1 through 10.
- 2:44But as I begin to look at this passage of Scripture, it strikes me at how many
- 2:49people there are in the world, you know, where we're past eight billion people in the world today.
- 2:56And we are all trying to stick out at least a little bit.
- 3:04There's something we're trying to do to make our mark on the world,
- 3:07to be seen by those in our community, by those in our family,
- 3:13by those in our circles, by those that we work with.
- 3:17Something to make us stand out.
- 3:21But the truth of the matter is, we don't really stand out that much.
- 3:26Most of us are very normal, and we blend in with everyone else.
- 3:30And I don't think that's a bad thing, but I think sometimes in our heart and
- 3:34in our mind, we just want to be seen.
- 3:38And I bring to your hearing today in Luke chapter 19, verses 1 through 10,
- 3:42a very comforting piece of scripture because God sees us and we matter to him.
- 3:49And how do I know that? As we begin to read this story about Zacchaeus,
- 3:53we're going to see that Jesus saw Zacchaeus where Jesus was and where Zacchaeus was.
- 4:03I want you to see that Jesus came to where Zacchaeus was.
- 4:08And he looked and he saw him. And I submit to you today that Jesus is right
- 4:14where you are, with his arms stretched open wide,
- 4:19asking you to come and sup with him and to have a relationship with him,
- 4:25asking you to receive him as your Lord and Savior, asking you to make him Lord
- 4:32of your life and King of your heart, asking you to follow his commands.
- 4:39Jesus has come to where you are right now this very moment to have a conversation
- 4:44with you through his scriptures and through the words that he has given me to speak in your hearing.
- 4:50That's how much Jesus loves you. He's that personal.
- 4:54In Revelation 3.20, it says, Behold, I stand at the door and knock,
- 4:58and if any man will open the door, I'll come in with him, and I will sup with him.
- 5:02I want you to know that you matter to Jesus.
- 5:07You matter so much that if you were the only person ever born,
- 5:11he still would have come and died on the cross of Calvary to pay the penalty
- 5:14for your sins that you couldn't pay.
- 5:17He didn't save you to leave you. In fact, he never leaves you or forsakes you.
- 5:22He didn't save you to drop you.
- 5:24He's never lost a battle, and he's not going to start with yours.
- 5:27But tonight, it is so important that as we begin to look at these scriptures,
- 5:34that we begin to see that we, especially as children of God,
- 5:40have a responsibility to hear the voice of God and to live according to his scriptures.
- 5:46And he tells us that if you love him, you'll keep his commandments and they won't be grievous.
- 5:52And so today, as we begin to look at Luke chapter 19, verses 1 through 10,
- 5:58I want you to really hone in Luke 19, 10 as the lens at which we see all of these.
- 6:06It says, for the son of man is coming to seek and to save that which was lost.
- 6:11I want you to really fasten your heart upon the word seek.
- 6:19Jesus came to seek you. Because Romans 3.23 says that all have sinned and come
- 6:26short of the glory of God.
- 6:28And if he's come to seek and to save the lost, we are all lost.
- 6:32But Jesus has come seeking you. And I submit to you, seeing you.
- 6:39This is so revealed to us in Luke 19, verses 1 through 10.
- 6:45Please listen as I read this in your hearing.
- 6:49And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. And behold, there was a man named
- 6:54Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
- 6:58And he sought to see Jesus, who he was and could not find for the press,
- 7:03because he was little of stature.
- 7:06And he ran before and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him,
- 7:09for he was to pass that way.
- 7:12And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up.
- 7:16And saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down,
- 7:21for today I must abide at thy house.
- 7:24And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.
- 7:28And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying that he was gone to be a guest
- 7:31with a man that is a sinner.
- 7:33And Zacchaeus stood and said unto the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods
- 7:38I give to the poor, and if I have
- 7:40taken anything from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
- 7:45Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house,
- 7:49for as much as he also is a son of Abraham.
- 7:52For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
- 7:58Now I want you to see the setting for this is Jesus is coming by.
- 8:03Jesus is going to be exactly where Zacchaeus needs him to be.
- 8:09I remind you that in John chapter 4, and the woman at the well,
- 8:13when she comes to the well and meets Jesus, he was there waiting on her.
- 8:18He was there where he knew she would be.
- 8:21Jesus is sitting right now where you know he needs to be.
- 8:27Because he's sitting right now in your presence, knocking on your heart's door, asking you.
- 8:36To hear him, asking you to act upon the convictions that he's placing in your mind and in your heart.
- 8:44Jesus has come to meet you where you are.
- 8:48Then I want you to see that when Zacchaeus couldn't get where everybody else
- 8:53was, he didn't have the prime seating.
- 8:56He didn't have the best place to meet him. He climbs up in a tree,
- 9:00and when Jesus passes by, he's seeking Zacchaeus, and he sees him.
- 9:07How do I know that he's seeking Zacchaeus? Because when he looks up,
- 9:12he calls Zacchaeus by name.
- 9:14I want you to know I know that he's called you by name.
- 9:18As you're listening to this message, as we are talking about Zacchaeus,
- 9:23I want you to see that you are a person that fits into the same life that Zacchaeus has.
- 9:30Zacchaeus was a man who thought he could make it on his own.
- 9:35He thought he didn't need Jesus. He was a rich man, and he got his money by swindling people.
- 9:41But Zacchaeus was a shrewd businessman, a practice that was kind of common in that day and time.
- 9:48And Zacchaeus thought he was
- 9:51just fine on his own. But when he encounters Jesus, everything changes.
- 9:57I want you to ponder this thought.
- 10:01Jesus sees you as something special.
- 10:07How do I know that? because not only did he call Zacchaeus by name,
- 10:11when he looked up and saw him, he wanted to be at Zacchaeus's house.
- 10:18That meant he wanted to spend time with Zacchaeus.
- 10:22He knew who Zacchaeus was. He called him by name. He knew what Zacchaeus did.
- 10:28And as you see further down in the scriptures,
- 10:32as we read it, the people around are just mortified that
- 10:35Jesus is going to the house of a sinner praise
- 10:38the lord he goes to the house of a sinner because all
- 10:42of us are sinners we've all sinned to come short of the glory of god but i want
- 10:48you to see in this passage of scripture that jesus looks up and i want you to
- 10:55hold on to the truth that that means you matter,
- 11:00in john chapter 4 verse 29 we read come see a man which told me all things ever
- 11:06i did is not this the christ when the woman at the well looks up and she sees
- 11:13jesus sitting on the well she is sure of who he is.
- 11:18And this King of Kings and Lord of Lords that was waiting on the well for her
- 11:22and standing going by the tree where Zacchaeus has climbed is standing at your
- 11:29heart's door right now, and he's asking you to have a conversation.
- 11:33He's asking you to turn your eyes upon him. He's asking you to love him.
- 11:40He's asking you to place your faith in him. He is giving you all of who he is,
- 11:46and he's seeking you so that you can have a personal relationship with him.
- 11:52In 1 Corinthians 15, 3, he says, For I delivered unto you, first of all,
- 11:57that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures.
- 12:03You talk about mattering? Let me tell you, Jesus knew that you had a sin debt
- 12:10you couldn't pay, and so he came and paid a sin debt he didn't owe.
- 12:15He left all of the splendor of heaven to rescue you.
- 12:20He left the comforts of heaven to die on the cross of Calvary so that you and I might go free.
- 12:30You matter. You know, we often put value on things based on how much it costs.
- 12:38Your salvation and my salvation cost me and you nothing.
- 12:43But it cost the life of the precious Son of God, the Lamb,
- 12:51Jesus Christ, who shed his blood for you and for me to wash away our sins,
- 12:57though they were scarlet, their whitest snow.
- 13:01Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
- 13:05When I look at Zacchaeus and I know that he's climbed to that tree because he
- 13:10didn't have the proper place to see him up front where Jesus was going,
- 13:16it reminds me that it's not about me.
- 13:19It's not about what I can do. It's not about my works of righteousness.
- 13:24It's not about what I can conjure up or I can make happen. It's about the works
- 13:29of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary.
- 13:32It is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast,
- 13:35according to Ephesians 2.8 and 9.
- 13:39So as we begin to look at this passage, realizing that Jesus is seeking to save
- 13:44those which were lost, knowing that that is all of us, and realizing that he
- 13:49took the initiative to look up to see Zacchaeus.
- 13:52He wasn't just single-minded, headed straight forward to where he was going.
- 13:59No, he looked up because he was always looking for the one who needed him.
- 14:08And I submit to you that today he is always looking for those of us who seek him.
- 14:15In Jeremiah 29, 13, he says that you may seek him while he shall be found. We are to seek the Lord.
- 14:25In Matthew 6.33, he says, Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness,
- 14:31and all these things shall be added unto you.
- 14:35We're to seek the Lord, but rest assured, he seeks us first.
- 14:40In fact, we are told we love him because he first loved us.
- 14:45Jesus looks up on this road going through Jericho, and he sees Zacchaeus,
- 14:53and he doesn't look at him and pass him by.
- 14:58He doesn't look at him and give him a nod.
- 15:03He doesn't look at him and condemn him.
- 15:07No, he looks at him and he calls him by name. And he says to him.
- 15:16Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must abide at thy house.
- 15:24Zacchaeus had hoped to get a glimpse of him.
- 15:27Zacchaeus had hoped to see him. But God gives us so much more than we ask or
- 15:34think, so much more than we deserve, and daily he loads us with benefits.
- 15:38But Zacchaeus went and positioned himself, and he was looking for God,
- 15:44but more importantly, Jesus was looking for Zacchaeus.
- 15:50And when he places his eyes upon Zacchaeus, he calls him by name.
- 15:58In John chapter 11, where it's recorded of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead,
- 16:06he calls Mary and Martha by name.
- 16:11I submit to you that he's no respecter of persons, and Zacchaeus hadn't registered
- 16:16on some registry before. he hadn't gone and signed up on the internet for a ticket.
- 16:23No, he found the only place he could get that he thought he might be able to see Jesus.
- 16:28But when Jesus passes by, Jesus looks for him and at him, and he already knows his name.
- 16:38But I also want to submit to you that he had a plan for Zacchaeus.
- 16:45In Jeremiah 29 11, he says, for I know the plans that I have for you to prosper
- 16:50you, to give you a hope and an expected end.
- 16:53He has a plan for you. He tells us
- 16:56that he wishes that all should come to repentance and none should perish.
- 17:01For those of us who've received him as Savior, he wishes that we would take
- 17:05up our cross daily and deny ourselves and follow him.
- 17:10When Jesus looks at Zacchaeus and calls him by name, he knows him so well that
- 17:16he's also got a specific plan for Zacchaeus. And here's what he says to him.
- 17:22He says, make haste and come down, for today I must abide at the house.
- 17:30So Zacchaeus is now face to face with Jesus, and Jesus has called him by name.
- 17:36Jesus is looking at him through eyes of mercy and grace and love.
- 17:42And he's got a plan and he says, come quickly down because I'm going to your house.
- 17:48Oh, my friends, the next few words are so imperative to the demonstration of
- 17:56faith that Zacchaeus shows us.
- 17:59In verse 6, he says, and he made haste and came down and received him joyfully.
- 18:10Zacchaeus wasn't fiddling around. He wasn't fooling around.
- 18:13He wasn't saying, hey, I'll catch you when this little show's over.
- 18:16He wasn't saying anything like that. He made haste.
- 18:20He came quickly down the tree. In my mind's eye, I can see him just jumping
- 18:26from wherever he was to get there.
- 18:29And he's looking at Jesus face to face, and he receives Jesus joyfully.
- 18:39I want you to know that you've got to move toward God to be saved.
- 18:45You've got to take a step of faith.
- 18:49In Jesus Christ to receive the free gift of salvation and to live the life of
- 18:57abundance in God's mercy and grace,
- 19:01you've got to take that step to joyfully embrace,
- 19:07having the Lord not in your life only, but as Lord of your life.
- 19:14Daily he loads us with benefits daily
- 19:18he blesses us daily he
- 19:21has directions for us daily he wants
- 19:25to use us in his service but it requires that we make a move towards him whether
- 19:31it's the first move of salvation or the multiple moves of obedience we must
- 19:37move towards the lord in order to have a healthy,
- 19:42effective relationship with Jesus Christ, one that he can bless,
- 19:49one that is separated from the world, because to be a friend of the world is to be the enemy of God.
- 19:56He tells us in James 4, 4, if we draw nigh unto him, he'll draw nigh unto us.
- 20:01And as we take that one step in faith, he's all over us.
- 20:05I have to believe that when Zacchaeus made it to the place where Jesus was.
- 20:11His face was on full display because he did everything he could to get to Jesus.
- 20:17Do you understand it couldn't have been convenient for a short man to get through the crowd?
- 20:24I'm a short lady. I understand that it's a problem. It's a real thing.
- 20:28It couldn't have been convenient for him to climb up on a sycamore tree,
- 20:32but nothing was going to stand in the way of him getting to Jesus because his
- 20:38heart was already fixed on him.
- 20:40And when Jesus comes by, he looks up, he calls for Zacchaeus,
- 20:45he tells Zacchaeus what to do, and there is instantaneous obedience.
- 20:51Zacchaeus had confirmed in his heart that he was going to do what God asked him to do.
- 20:58In James 4.8, when we draw nigh to him, he draws nigh to us.
- 21:02And then he says to cleanse your hands, ye sinners, and purify your hearts, ye double-minded.
- 21:10Zacchaeus, come down from that tree. And as we move forward into this passage
- 21:16of Scripture, we see that this encounter with Jesus, it changed everything about him.
- 21:23But I want you to see that when he comes down, Jesus has said to him that I must abide at the house.
- 21:30I believe what Jesus is saying to him is, you make your move towards me.
- 21:36You put your faith in me. And we begin to walk hand in hand.
- 21:41I will abide with you forever.
- 21:45In Romans 10, 13, he says, whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
- 21:50And in John 3, 16, he says, for God so loved the world that he gave his only
- 21:55begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
- 21:59but have everlasting life,
- 22:01everlasting life with Jesus Christ, who never leaves you nor forsakes you,
- 22:09who provides all of your needs and gives you all the strength that you need,
- 22:15who daily loads you with benefits, who walks beside of you,
- 22:19surrounds you with his presence, places his angels round about you so you can't
- 22:24even dash your foot against a stone.
- 22:27You are wrapped in the Holy Spirit, surrounded by the deity and filled with the Holy Spirit.
- 22:39And Jesus and God, the Trinity, are watching over you.
- 22:45They're developing you. They're loving you. They're showering you with grace and mercy.
- 22:52There is nothing that the world can give you that can compare.
- 22:56And the world didn't give you the peace that comes from walking in the center
- 23:00of God's will so the world can't take it away.
- 23:04I want you to see that Zacchaeus got more than I think he even bargained for.
- 23:11I believe that Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus, and I believe as soon as Jesus
- 23:16looked up and their eyes met,
- 23:18and Zacchaeus in obedience comes down from that tree to walk hand in hand with
- 23:26Jesus to his house, to associate himself with him,
- 23:31to throw away the things of the world.
- 23:35And be who God wants him to be. I believe he joyfully proclaimed that.
- 23:41See, I know that when Jesus comes in to live in your heart, when you have an
- 23:46encounter with Jesus, when you meet him, I know that Jesus changes everything.
- 23:53In 2 Corinthians 5, 17, he tells us that we are a new creature in Christ Jesus,
- 23:59that old things are passed away.
- 24:01Behold, all things have become new. The things we used to love will fall off
- 24:06of us if they're not the things of God.
- 24:08The things of this world will grow strangely dim in the presence of our Lord and our Savior.
- 24:15Our soul will no longer lust after the things of this world because sin has
- 24:21no more dominion over us.
- 24:22And praise be to God that we are victorious through Christ Jesus.
- 24:28We have a love that will never fail us, according to Romans 8, 38 and 39.
- 24:34Oh, Zacchaeus, his life was completely different.
- 24:38How do I know that?
- 24:41Because in verse 8, Zacchaeus stood and said unto the Lord, Behold,
- 24:47Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor, and if I've taken anything from
- 24:52any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
- 24:55So listen, he was giving half of his wealth away immediately,
- 24:59and then whatever part of the
- 25:01half that was left, he was given fourfold to the people he had cheated.
- 25:06He had once, no doubt, relied upon his wealth, upon his profession,
- 25:12upon the things he could gather with his own hands, with his own intellect,
- 25:16with his own reputation, with the fame that he had garnered.
- 25:21He was now distributing that out left and right because he realized that the
- 25:26true treasure was in front of him, that his relationship with Jesus Christ was
- 25:32the greatest wealth one could have.
- 25:34He understood that being in the presence of Jesus Christ meant he had it all.
- 25:42But it was requiring a surrender, perhaps a surrender you haven't succumbed to.
- 25:49Perhaps this is the first time it's ever been presented to you in a way that
- 25:54you could understand that you
- 25:56have to give up self-reliance in order to walk hand in hand with Jesus.
- 26:03Perhaps you've never fully understood that all of the things that you have are
- 26:08gifts from him, And as quickly as you get them, you could lose them.
- 26:13But you can't lose Jesus.
- 26:16And no man can pluck them out of his hand, according to John 10, 28.
- 26:21You're secure in the hands of Jesus. And they're not just any hands.
- 26:27They're nail-scarred hands.
- 26:29Every time you think back upon the cross and you look at those hands that are
- 26:34wrapped around you with your mind's eye through a heart of faith,
- 26:39you gotta know that if he held himself on the cross and took the humility and
- 26:46the pain and the beating and willingly gave his life for you,
- 26:51those hands will hold you through every storm, every trial,
- 26:57every problem, every setback, every disappointment, every act of slander,
- 27:05every attack that is upon you.
- 27:07And just like Teflon, nothing's gonna stick because those nail-scarred hands
- 27:14are sifting what he allows to touch you.
- 27:19This man named Zacchaeus gave everything he had. Pretty much,
- 27:24you say, well, he had some money left over. He did.
- 27:28But I think he gave his profession up. See, he changed.
- 27:33If you're still living the same wicked, sinful life you lived before you think
- 27:37you had an encounter with Jesus, think again.
- 27:41Because I'm telling you, Jesus in you changes everything about you.
- 27:46The world doesn't have Jesus.
- 27:49So they shouldn't look the same way you do.
- 27:54Jesus abides in you and forever you have an eternal home not made with hands.
- 28:00In our Father's house are many mansions. That's what he tells us in John 14.
- 28:05And he says he goes to prepare a place for you that where he is, you may be also.
- 28:11See, he took Zacchaeus, I believe, hand in hand to Zacchaeus' house.
- 28:17I believe with every fiber of my body that on that day when I hear my name called
- 28:23and he says, Kimmy, come on home.
- 28:26Your time on earth is done. Your race has been run.
- 28:32It's time that you say goodbye world and hello, God.
- 28:36I believe with every fiber of my body, just as he reached out and grabbed Zacchaeus'
- 28:42hand and walked him to Zacchaeus' house.
- 28:45I believe this is a picture of Jesus walking me from this earthly tabernacle
- 28:52of my body, from this earthly home that I live in, to that home prepared for me,
- 28:58eternal into the heavens, where there is no night, there's no sickness,
- 29:03there's no pain, where he is the light, where we praise him day and night,
- 29:08where joy floods our soul.
- 29:10And I believe as he speaks in this passage in Luke chapter 19 about when Zacchaeus
- 29:18comes down, he receives him joyfully.
- 29:21I believe that is a picture of him taking him to his home, and we receive him joyfully.
- 29:27But we don't have to wait until we get to the other side to enjoy the relationship,
- 29:32the personal time that we have with him, the personal relationship, the friendship,
- 29:41the love, the grace, the mercy,
- 29:43the comfort, the bond.
- 29:47No, that's for the here and now.
- 29:51Heaven's sweeter because I know what awaits me.
- 29:55But this world is better because I know what's inside of me.
- 30:01And when I surrender, when I succumb and I humble myself,
- 30:09under the control of Almighty God, he will exalt me in due time.
- 30:16See, Ephesians 2, 10 says, For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus
- 30:22unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.
- 30:27From the beginning of time, God wanted only what was best for us.
- 30:31That was his plan. And man, in its deceitful, wicked, fleshly ways, messed that plan up.
- 30:39But Jesus came to offer himself as the way, the truth, and the life so that
- 30:47we could joyfully receive him so that when he's in our presence,
- 30:54we would embrace him and be obedient and follow after him.
- 31:02Zacchaeus proves to us that we matter because Jesus saw him.
- 31:07Calls him by name, gives him a plan.
- 31:11Zacchaeus humbles himself and surrenders. He makes haste and he follows the plan.
- 31:20And Zacchaeus shows us about the eternal forever, precious relationship that
- 31:29we have with Almighty God. He's not a stranger.
- 31:33He called Zacchaeus by name.
- 31:36He's not distant. He was right there with him.
- 31:40And nothing about Zacchaeus was ever the same.
- 31:47My friend, I submit to you that you too are special to Jesus.
- 31:54I believe that right now he's speaking to your heart.
- 31:57And if you don't know him as Savior, he's asking you to believe,
- 32:02to trust in him with all your heart,
- 32:05to receive the free gift of salvation by acknowledging that you're a sinner,
- 32:10believing in him and confessing that he is God.
- 32:14But my friend, if you know him as Savior, I believe he's speaking to your heart,
- 32:20and telling you to trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not into your understanding.
- 32:24In all thy ways, acknowledge him and he shall direct your paths.
- 32:28He directed Zacchaeus' path to an eternal abiding with him.
- 32:37My friend, Jesus is looking at you and he wants to be hand in hand with you.
- 32:43But you must choose him.
- 32:48Choose you this day who you will serve. Jesus is looking at you. Remember you are loved.
