- 0:00Speaker 1: M from grandmothers who whispered in their baby girl in
- 0:13Speaker 1: two fathers on dimly lit street corners, instructing young soldiers
- 0:16Speaker 1: to always keep their eyes open. You be queen, you
- 0:21Speaker 1: will fired, you will pass through centuries on the hands
- 0:24Speaker 1: of your daughters. They called you wisdom. Proverbs on the
- 0:28Speaker 1: backs of diamond eyed school children who groomed into hymnals
- 0:32Speaker 1: recited by amethyst holding urban philosophers who recited neighborhood commandments
- 0:37Speaker 1: out of the windows of restored alchemyo chariots to keep
- 0:40Speaker 1: the warmth of their blood, be wise, be smart, being black,
- 0:46Speaker 1: opal brown parts, bloodstone, and prayer. Be every form of
- 0:50Speaker 1: Jim see king told, scribe, scribe, told son, son, told wife,
- 0:57Speaker 1: wife told her daughter, and daughter told the ant. This
- 1:00Speaker 1: is And the ancestors told me that you would come
- 1:04Speaker 1: to give you wisdom. They said you would come dropping
- 1:09Speaker 1: Dropping the Jim, Hey Stewie Brown, and you are listening
- 1:12Speaker 1: to the Dropping Jim's podcast. Today's episode features one of
- 1:16Speaker 1: the most brilliant and elevated financial planners in all of
- 1:21Speaker 1: the world, definitely one of the leading wealth managers. Business managers.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Happens to be my business manager, so he knows where
- 1:30Speaker 1: all the bodies are buried, and I actually haven't listed
- 1:33Speaker 1: as my emergency contact on most days. My dear friend,
- 1:37Speaker 1: Humble Loukanga, welcome, thank you, thank you, thank you, thanks
- 1:40Speaker 1: for having me. So I want to give a brief
- 1:42Speaker 1: rundown on Humble. He is many many things, um, but
- 1:46Speaker 1: specifically he's a wealth manager for professional athletes, entertainers, executives
- 1:51Speaker 1: and thought leaders. You have your NBA, your CFP, and
- 1:55Speaker 1: you're the founder of Lifeline Financial Group. You're also on
- 1:59Speaker 1: the board of trust Sees at the University of New
- 2:01Speaker 1: Mexico and you currently have offices in Denver in l A.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Some of the biggest clients out there. Yeah, I know, um,
- 2:09Speaker 1: you know, I won't get into your very private but
- 2:12Speaker 1: I'll talk about the clients that are in print because
- 2:14Speaker 1: the Hollywood Reporter recently did a big profile on you
- 2:18Speaker 1: in your life story in your career and quote in
- 2:20Speaker 1: the article were some of your clients like ray DeAndre
- 2:25Speaker 1: Hopkins as a client, um, Nicole Kine and myself right
- 2:30Speaker 1: right right, right right, lucky me. Yeah. I always kid
- 2:33Speaker 1: that I got all the queens in Hollywood. Man, Listen,
- 2:36Speaker 1: I got all the queens. Has amazing, you know, Humble
- 2:40Speaker 1: so I want to give everybody a little backstory and
- 2:42Speaker 1: how we know each other and how we started working together.
- 2:45Speaker 1: We initially met in Hawaii. That's the first time we met.
- 2:48Speaker 1: We were at the Pro Bowl. We met. My husband
- 2:51Speaker 1: had got voted into the Pro Bowl, so we were
- 2:54Speaker 1: out there. You were there with another client who had
- 2:57Speaker 1: introduced us to you Times Flying, and I just remember,
- 3:02Speaker 1: you know, I remember thinking, what a fascinating guy. You know,
- 3:07Speaker 1: And this is many moons ago, but I remember we
- 3:09Speaker 1: we ended up all of us at a big dinner together,
- 3:12Speaker 1: and you and I just kind of went off, remember,
- 3:16Speaker 1: like we had no idea what everyone else at the
- 3:18Speaker 1: table was talking about. And we initially bonded because we
- 3:21Speaker 1: had both just read um outlier spend Malcolm Gladwell Yeah,
- 3:26Speaker 1: and we're like, oh my god, and we just you know,
- 3:30Speaker 1: and ever since then, you know, we have been thick
- 3:32Speaker 1: as thieves. When I say that you are my emergency contact,
- 3:35Speaker 1: I mean that very literally. You know, um, anytime you know,
- 3:39Speaker 1: you sign up for anything, it's like, okay, spouse, family member,
- 3:42Speaker 1: emergency contact. Humble is my emergency contact on everything, specifically
- 3:46Speaker 1: because I'm like, listen, if something goes down, this is
- 3:49Speaker 1: the person that I know will give me how to dodge.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Absolutely absolutely, you have. Um you have a really really
- 3:59Speaker 1: really rich and huge kind of life story. And they
- 4:02Speaker 1: did a great job of talking about it in the
- 4:04Speaker 1: Hollywood Reporter piece. So if you guys get a chance,
- 4:06Speaker 1: just as a compliment to this episode, definitely look up
- 4:09Speaker 1: Humble on Google and check out that article. He also
- 4:12Speaker 1: did with another one of his clients, a really intensive,
- 4:15Speaker 1: great two hour discussion podcasts. It's called now What podcasts.
- 4:19Speaker 1: You know, you you spoke extensively about some of your upbringing.
- 4:23Speaker 1: But if you give people like, you know, just a
- 4:24Speaker 1: little bit of background about you, man, you're taking me
- 4:26Speaker 1: down memory lane with the with the pro bowl. You know. Um,
- 4:29Speaker 1: it's crazy now that we've been together, you know, seven
- 4:33Speaker 1: eight not years, I mean, uh in retrospect, I mean
- 4:36Speaker 1: you were believing in twenty four year old financial managers.
- 4:39Speaker 1: So that's kind of crazy spirit of a six year old. Yeah,
- 4:47Speaker 1: your knowledge, Yeah, you gotta do. You gotta treat those
- 4:49Speaker 1: Ugandan years like dollar years. But yes, so a background,
- 4:54Speaker 1: you know, Um, I grew up in in Uganda, small
- 4:57Speaker 1: country in East Africa. I grew up in a villa
- 5:00Speaker 1: called my Socca. I came from very very humble beginnings
- 5:03Speaker 1: and you know, no pun intended, but in the sense
- 5:05Speaker 1: of my parents grew up in the heights of like
- 5:08Speaker 1: Saydia means regime, right so and Idia mean man. If
- 5:12Speaker 1: you do some research on him, I think Time magazine
- 5:14Speaker 1: had him was a top five dictator of all time.
- 5:15Speaker 1: He was pummaging through the villages, you know, raping, killing,
- 5:20Speaker 1: massacres um and those times were really hard on the country.
- 5:23Speaker 1: He was kicking people out. It was a very very
- 5:25Speaker 1: crazy time in Uganda. And our parents, my father, you know,
- 5:28Speaker 1: if you think about his story, right, my father had
- 5:30Speaker 1: ten siblings and only ones alive right now, you know
- 5:32Speaker 1: what I mean. My mother side of the family, same
- 5:35Speaker 1: story us as children, even my own family. You know,
- 5:38Speaker 1: I lost my sisters, you know, when they were young,
- 5:39Speaker 1: both of them. I've lost my brother. So I'm a
- 5:43Speaker 1: thirty two thirty just turned thirty three. I'm the oldest
- 5:46Speaker 1: male in my family. I was. I've been lucky to escape,
- 5:48Speaker 1: you know, but I grew up and uh, I grew
- 5:50Speaker 1: up in this village man fetching water. I didn't get
- 5:52Speaker 1: my first pair of shoes, man, that I that I owned.
- 5:54Speaker 1: There were mind so I was like eleven. Uh, you know,
- 5:58Speaker 1: no electricity, you know, no indoor plumbing, just you know,
- 6:00Speaker 1: just just living in a thoroughwall country. And I was
- 6:03Speaker 1: so lucky to get a political asylum that allowed me,
- 6:05Speaker 1: that allowed um, my mother and my father to uh
- 6:09Speaker 1: to bring us to America. So we landed in Denver, Colorado,
- 6:12Speaker 1: where you know, you can start to breathe a little bit.
- 6:14Speaker 1: And you know, it's crazy because when I when you arrive,
- 6:16Speaker 1: on one hand, you feel so lucky that you have
- 6:18Speaker 1: you have a new chance of life. But other hand,
- 6:20Speaker 1: you have that survivor's guilt because a lot of the
- 6:21Speaker 1: people you're never going to see again, most likely, right,
- 6:23Speaker 1: So um so then you have this just this guilt
- 6:26Speaker 1: that like yeah, yeah, and you just feel like I
- 6:28Speaker 1: have to be worthy of this blessing, Like whatever I
- 6:30Speaker 1: do with my life has to be worthy that I
- 6:32Speaker 1: was spared, you know what I mean, why am I?
- 6:33Speaker 1: And you know why am I lucky than any of
- 6:35Speaker 1: my you know, siblings or anybody else? Right? So I
- 6:37Speaker 1: got here, man, it was really humble, and I really
- 6:39Speaker 1: couldn't speak English of course, or you know, barely, you know, uh,
- 6:42Speaker 1: And so you know you have to go backwards you know,
- 6:44Speaker 1: you like, in first second grade learning how to put
- 6:46Speaker 1: a bcs together, you know, learn how to put it
- 6:48Speaker 1: down together, what a bourbon is, how to construct a sentence.
- 6:51Speaker 1: And I'm sitting on chairs and don't even fit me,
- 6:53Speaker 1: but I'm trying to find my way, you know. But um,
- 6:56Speaker 1: I was really lucky in the fact that I could
- 6:58Speaker 1: learn past and uh progress very quickly, ended up being
- 7:01Speaker 1: a really really top student, and then tragedy just kept coming.
- 7:05Speaker 1: So by seventh grade, I'm I'm caught up to my
- 7:07Speaker 1: peers and maybe accelerating. Everything's going great. I'm adjusted to America,
- 7:11Speaker 1: so let's call it, you know. Three years in, but
- 7:13Speaker 1: then heading into high school, my mother has this this
- 7:16Speaker 1: crazy stroke that left the pair last from neck down.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Right in that moment, you don't have a mother anymore
- 7:21Speaker 1: in a sense, because she can't walk, she can't talk,
- 7:23Speaker 1: and they gave her six months to live because he
- 7:25Speaker 1: thought that, you know how, she would go in and
- 7:26Speaker 1: out of comas, you know, because of a stroke. And
- 7:29Speaker 1: my father, who has probably had the biggest impact of
- 7:31Speaker 1: my life, who has showed me in the physical sense,
- 7:33Speaker 1: what love looks like and what devotion looks like, you know,
- 7:36Speaker 1: they wanted to put my mom in like one of
- 7:37Speaker 1: those hospice hospitals where you know, she can have like
- 7:40Speaker 1: a sienna or somebody come like take it to, you know,
- 7:42Speaker 1: just to our dying days. And my father was like,
- 7:45Speaker 1: that's not happening, you know, he said, listening, Now we
- 7:47Speaker 1: have to take it to a specialist. That's one thing.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Maybe you can get an ambulance. But to take her
- 7:51Speaker 1: to the bathroom to brush your teeth, to brush your hair, um,
- 7:54Speaker 1: to bathe her, I'm gonna do that, right. My my
- 7:57Speaker 1: mother cleaned people's homes during the day. My father cleaned
- 8:01Speaker 1: restaurants and in office buildings at night. But in Uganda,
- 8:05Speaker 1: they were professors, right, yeah, yeah, you know. And my
- 8:09Speaker 1: father has a very crazy story in the sense that
- 8:12Speaker 1: of how of how much heartbreak has been through. Right,
- 8:15Speaker 1: So if we pause my story and just get I
- 8:17Speaker 1: give you a quick like movie trailer in my father's life.
- 8:20Speaker 1: So imagine growing up nine in Massacca, in this uh
- 8:24Speaker 1: in this village. But you are a savant in like
- 8:27Speaker 1: in finance and economics, so much so that all of
- 8:30Speaker 1: these top schools are just grabbing you to go to school.
- 8:33Speaker 1: You know, um and then so and so then you
- 8:37Speaker 1: get this opportunity to go to the University of a
- 8:39Speaker 1: Robe in Kenya to to to learn statistics and economics.
- 8:43Speaker 1: You do so well that you get a scholarship to
- 8:45Speaker 1: come to southern California, you know what I mean to
- 8:47Speaker 1: and you get your MBA and public administration and economics.
- 8:51Speaker 1: You go back to your country and you start to
- 8:54Speaker 1: all your dreams are starting to come true. Right, Um,
- 8:56Speaker 1: you're very prominent, uh in in the government. My father
- 9:00Speaker 1: rose up at the time. Um, the coffee administration was
- 9:03Speaker 1: the biggest cash cow for as far as export for
- 9:05Speaker 1: for for our country. And my father was the head
- 9:07Speaker 1: of that entire operation. Right, so he's um, he's accomplished.
- 9:12Speaker 1: You know, he's probably the third or fourth powerful man
- 9:14Speaker 1: in the country. Um. You know, he was one of
- 9:16Speaker 1: the few guys then who had who had a car
- 9:18Speaker 1: and who had a show for an a driver. I
- 9:20Speaker 1: mean he had really went from um this village into prominency.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Right then the change in power came, right the violence,
- 9:31Speaker 1: you know what I mean, those those years of you know,
- 9:34Speaker 1: in our country, like there's no voting system, like the
- 9:37Speaker 1: powers made a power being taken. So when somebody wants
- 9:40Speaker 1: to come be president and they but they have they
- 9:42Speaker 1: have an army coup. They come in for everybody, right, so, um,
- 9:48Speaker 1: you know they took everybody else out. That's how they
- 9:50Speaker 1: that's how they deal, that's how they deal with high officials.
- 9:53Speaker 1: And my father suffered such a such a such loss,
- 9:56Speaker 1: you know, because my mother was was a second wife.
- 9:58Speaker 1: But my father had be or mom before he met
- 10:01Speaker 1: my mother. He had uh I don't talk about this
- 10:02Speaker 1: a lot, but I'm I'm hoping he can help somebody.
- 10:05Speaker 1: But he had um, you know, wife, two daughters, and
- 10:08Speaker 1: they planned to kill him. Right, They're planning to stop
- 10:10Speaker 1: his car. But when he stopped his car, he wasn't
- 10:11Speaker 1: in there for whatever reason. I think they got to
- 10:13Speaker 1: schedule wrong. But they executed everybody in that in that car.
- 10:17Speaker 1: His wife, his daughter's, his driver executed him. Can you
- 10:20Speaker 1: imagine just just just because just you know what I mean.
- 10:23Speaker 1: So he had to come home and find out about
- 10:25Speaker 1: that on television like like like he didn't even know, right,
- 10:27Speaker 1: Like it was crazy. My father never shared these stories
- 10:30Speaker 1: with me, man, because he died young. But my aunt
- 10:32Speaker 1: tells me all these stories now, which which now that
- 10:35Speaker 1: I'm now that I'm a father and I'm and I'm
- 10:37Speaker 1: a young man. It helps me understand my father more,
- 10:39Speaker 1: but it also helps me understand why I'm this way too, right,
- 10:42Speaker 1: because literally we come from the same cloth. So when
- 10:44Speaker 1: that happens to his first family and he gives everything up,
- 10:46Speaker 1: you know, he's like, you can have this, you know,
- 10:48Speaker 1: it's not worth it. On the eleven year gap where
- 10:50Speaker 1: he goes back to the village and he's just doing
- 10:52Speaker 1: community work and he's teaching and he's a professor, and
- 10:54Speaker 1: he's just he's just more um into community empowerment and
- 10:58Speaker 1: gets away from the big in that in in in
- 11:01Speaker 1: that big life. And that's when he meets my mother,
- 11:03Speaker 1: you know, uh, Joey Lucana you know, um, and the
- 11:07Speaker 1: name is like fitting right, and she brought joy back
- 11:10Speaker 1: in his life. Um, and then they had us, and
- 11:12Speaker 1: then he loses more children, right, so you get here
- 11:16Speaker 1: and literally that's why when they're saying, you know, to
- 11:18Speaker 1: sender somewhere, he's like, no, no, are you kidding me? Yeah,
- 11:23Speaker 1: this is yeah, this is the woman that my mother
- 11:26Speaker 1: restored my father's ability to love, you know what I mean,
- 11:29Speaker 1: Like she she she restored his ability to to smile,
- 11:32Speaker 1: to to taste again, you know, what I mean to to,
- 11:35Speaker 1: you know, to to live a rich life again, you know.
- 11:38Speaker 1: And they had such an amazing chemistry because my mother,
- 11:40Speaker 1: my mother was very vibrant, right, a big personality and
- 11:43Speaker 1: and sweet. And my mother was renegading the sense back
- 11:46Speaker 1: then most women were, you know, and even to this
- 11:49Speaker 1: day and and and her and and and you've got
- 11:51Speaker 1: almost African countries and more traditional this day. Just they
- 11:53Speaker 1: stay home and to take care of the family. But
- 11:56Speaker 1: my mother was like an entrepreneur. She had like shopping stores,
- 11:59Speaker 1: she was she was shipping cars from you Gonta to Japan. Yeah.
- 12:04Speaker 1: So so that energy is like it's like revide my
- 12:06Speaker 1: father to say this young lady and in the seventies
- 12:10Speaker 1: thing you Gonda, like, who's an incredible, incredible like business woman, right,
- 12:14Speaker 1: So she restored his love and then they had, you know,
- 12:17Speaker 1: four of four of us. And you know, but when
- 12:19Speaker 1: when we came there to start over again, right, my
- 12:21Speaker 1: father is like he's he's lived so many lives and
- 12:23Speaker 1: when you get here and now you have kids and
- 12:25Speaker 1: you have you have a country that maybe it's not
- 12:27Speaker 1: honoring um you know, your degrees or your resume or
- 12:30Speaker 1: your um because you know you're doing it somewhere else,
- 12:33Speaker 1: or you got your degree back in the nineteen seventies
- 12:35Speaker 1: or all these things, and you got you know, you
- 12:37Speaker 1: gotta you gotta get to it, you know what I mean.
- 12:39Speaker 1: And the Cricket thing to do was just clean, you know,
- 12:41Speaker 1: because uh that's what they did. But when when my mother,
- 12:45Speaker 1: when my father decided to take care of my mother
- 12:47Speaker 1: had that stroke and my father decided to take care
- 12:49Speaker 1: of her seven now he put the responsibility of like
- 12:53Speaker 1: cleaning the restaurants on me, you know what I mean.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I was fourteen, I was a freshman in high school,
- 12:58Speaker 1: you know, fourteen about to be fifteen, and so literally
- 13:02Speaker 1: I would, let's just say, I wake up, like say
- 13:05Speaker 1: six o'clock, be at the bus stop of sixty five,
- 13:07Speaker 1: be a school by seven fifteen, get done with school
- 13:10Speaker 1: three um uh, go to go to practice and have
- 13:13Speaker 1: an opter school activity, come home, do my homework, take
- 13:16Speaker 1: a nap. By ten o'clock, I'm at Bennigan's or Golden
- 13:19Speaker 1: Kroral cleaning toilets, cleaning a restaurant. I'm back three thirty
- 13:25Speaker 1: two hour nap. And I did that for three years
- 13:27Speaker 1: and three and a half years, you know what I mean.
- 13:28Speaker 1: So but it wasn't that journey you know where I'm like,
- 13:31Speaker 1: you're averaging like three hours. It was crazy, you know
- 13:34Speaker 1: it was, and it was, But it wasn't that journey
- 13:37Speaker 1: where like I would I would be like vacuum. I
- 13:39Speaker 1: would be like my father like dropped me off, and
- 13:41Speaker 1: like we'd be I'd be like vacuum or like like cleaning,
- 13:44Speaker 1: like um, a restaurant or whatever. And I'm thinking to myself, this, this,
- 13:48Speaker 1: this curse of poverty is gonna stop with me, right,
- 13:50Speaker 1: So I'm manifesting that, um that in my life. I'm
- 13:54Speaker 1: just I'm just speaking out loud. This curse of poverty
- 13:56Speaker 1: is gonna stop with me. This curse of poverty is
- 13:57Speaker 1: gonna start with me. It's gonna stop with me, right
- 13:59Speaker 1: Like like if you do a timeline of the of
- 14:01Speaker 1: that name of my name I'm going to when you
- 14:04Speaker 1: get to my my chapter, things are going to be different,
- 14:07Speaker 1: you know. Um. But in that journey, that's where I learned,
- 14:12Speaker 1: you know, sacrifices. Where I learned is where I got
- 14:14Speaker 1: my work ethic. But it's also it was also very
- 14:16Speaker 1: you know, very very very very painful, right because every
- 14:19Speaker 1: step you take, like you know, things are happy that
- 14:21Speaker 1: you really can't control, you know, so you know, we
- 14:23Speaker 1: found a way. But that's a little bit about my background,
- 14:25Speaker 1: you know. Um, and from there, you know, I graduated
- 14:28Speaker 1: obviously high school, I went, I went to Inversity in
- 14:31Speaker 1: Mexico and got undergraded my master's there. I left and
- 14:34Speaker 1: got into you know, business and representative of managing finances
- 14:37Speaker 1: for for really with these dynamic people. And I haven't
- 14:41Speaker 1: looked back since. You know. So when I tell my story,
- 14:43Speaker 1: when I when I share my story in retrospect, you know,
- 14:45Speaker 1: you have to relive things. So it's hard. But um,
- 14:48Speaker 1: but I'm open to talk about it now because I'm
- 14:50Speaker 1: just I just want to inspire, like somebody I did
- 14:52Speaker 1: to say, man, anything, anything is possible, like if you
- 14:55Speaker 1: if you just don't give up, no matter you know,
- 14:57Speaker 1: no matter what. And then my mother ended up dying
- 14:59Speaker 1: from natal right and routes to go bury here. You know,
- 15:02Speaker 1: my father died. So I'm sitting here burying both parents,
- 15:05Speaker 1: you know, you know, like relatively the same time. It's crazy,
- 15:09Speaker 1: so um, and this is all before yeah, this is
- 15:13Speaker 1: this is it's it's it's life is life is crazy man,
- 15:16Speaker 1: in a sense of like you can't control what can
- 15:18Speaker 1: happen to you. But the thing about it, though, is
- 15:20Speaker 1: like if tragedy should come, right, may may come when
- 15:23Speaker 1: you're young. That way, you're the rest of your life
- 15:25Speaker 1: to have these like this wisdom and these tenants and
- 15:28Speaker 1: this fortitude and this resiliency. Uh, and then the later
- 15:32Speaker 1: of your life because you're gonna spend more time being
- 15:34Speaker 1: old than you are being young, than at least that
- 15:36Speaker 1: those those years will be great because you're unshakable, like
- 15:39Speaker 1: you literally unshakable. And not that bad things don't continue
- 15:43Speaker 1: to happen, but that the meaning you drive you derive
- 15:47Speaker 1: from them stays consistent, you know. So um yeah, let
- 15:51Speaker 1: it happen young and let your heart stay open. Yeah yeah,
- 15:54Speaker 1: because because sometimes you know, if if you go through
- 15:57Speaker 1: your whole life you've never been through anything, and then
- 15:59Speaker 1: it hits you later, you don't you don't you have it.
- 16:01Speaker 1: You don't have that muscle memory, you know, so you
- 16:03Speaker 1: haven't built through the resilience. Yeah, yeah, you know. And
- 16:07Speaker 1: this is what always kind of puts me in all
- 16:09Speaker 1: of you. And and something I've always wanted to ask
- 16:12Speaker 1: you given your background, Um, given the immense amount of
- 16:16Speaker 1: trauma that you didn't even have, you know, the luxury
- 16:19Speaker 1: of being able to take time to work through right
- 16:22Speaker 1: like you know, because you're going through trauma, but you've
- 16:24Speaker 1: got to learn a new language. You're going through trauma,
- 16:27Speaker 1: but your mom you know, things are worse, so you
- 16:30Speaker 1: need to stay present in the moment, and you need
- 16:32Speaker 1: to stay helpful. You're going through trauma, but and assimilating
- 16:36Speaker 1: to a new country, but you gotta work all night.
- 16:39Speaker 1: You know, all of these things, and then you lose
- 16:41Speaker 1: your parents. Something that has always really struck me about
- 16:44Speaker 1: you is the level of enthusiasm enjoy that you carry
- 16:48Speaker 1: yourself with, you know, and I think for people if
- 16:51Speaker 1: people follow you on Instagram they'll know this it's at
- 16:53Speaker 1: age two humble or if they meet you in person, um.
- 16:56Speaker 1: But you know, you have this huge smile that's just
- 16:59Speaker 1: really charming presence about yourself and this this overall positivity.
- 17:05Speaker 1: You know, any You've given me some of the best
- 17:07Speaker 1: quotables you know, I've ever heard in my life. You're
- 17:10Speaker 1: always just the king of of lifting other people up,
- 17:14Speaker 1: friends and clients. Given your history, how do you still
- 17:17Speaker 1: manage to be kind and to believe in the goodness
- 17:22Speaker 1: of the world. Wow, that saw that's such a really
- 17:25Speaker 1: great question. When I think about being say happy, right,
- 17:28Speaker 1: I've always thought about it as because people have asked
- 17:30Speaker 1: me how do you how do you stay so happy?
- 17:32Speaker 1: And in my mind, it's like it's one of the options.
- 17:34Speaker 1: It's one of the options, you know, Like, like it's
- 17:37Speaker 1: the same way you can be mad, angry, happy, It's
- 17:41Speaker 1: one of the options. That's what's on your menu. I'm
- 17:43Speaker 1: having happy. Yeah, I mean, it's one of the options, right,
- 17:45Speaker 1: It's like, let me, let me have that, right. But also,
- 17:49Speaker 1: if you're happy with how things are, then you can't
- 17:53Speaker 1: be mad at how things were, because it's some things
- 17:56Speaker 1: don't happen. Some things don't happen, you know what I mean.
- 18:01Speaker 1: So so so I you can't have it both ways, man,
- 18:06Speaker 1: you can't. You can't be you know what I mean.
- 18:08Speaker 1: You can't. You can't. You gotta let you have to
- 18:10Speaker 1: let it go, you know. But the foundation of my life, though,
- 18:12Speaker 1: is gratitude. And that's the lesson I share with anybody
- 18:15Speaker 1: that listens to me. It's impossible to be sad all
- 18:19Speaker 1: the time and grateful all the time at the same time.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Your mind would explode before that happens, right to this,
- 18:26Speaker 1: So when you are really unhappy or just it's because
- 18:29Speaker 1: you're not practicing gratitude, you know what I mean, It's
- 18:31Speaker 1: like you are, and explain explain that for people, because
- 18:34Speaker 1: I think you know a lot of people. When you
- 18:35Speaker 1: think of the term gratitude, it's thankful for all I got,
- 18:38Speaker 1: wake up in the morning, thank you God for all
- 18:40Speaker 1: I have. What is practicing gratitude look like? You know,
- 18:45Speaker 1: I touch a great question, Okay, Like when you think
- 18:47Speaker 1: about gratitude, and I'm talking about the physical form of it, right,
- 18:51Speaker 1: not just like oh thank you, thank you, you know,
- 18:53Speaker 1: and just passing by practicing gratitude hashtag blessed hashtag right.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Practicing gratitude to me is this daily walk where like
- 19:06Speaker 1: you are literally literally open up a book and you
- 19:09Speaker 1: write down what you're grateful for and why. What I
- 19:11Speaker 1: do every single day, I dedicate that day to somebody
- 19:13Speaker 1: I love and I try to walk in their honor.
- 19:16Speaker 1: So I wake up today and I said, okay, man, today,
- 19:18Speaker 1: this is from a great great grandfather that I've never
- 19:20Speaker 1: even met, who did enough for me to be here.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I'm going to represent what what what he would have
- 19:24Speaker 1: hoped for me, and I walk in that. You know
- 19:26Speaker 1: what I mean, gratitude is like the most important thing
- 19:29Speaker 1: in life because it allows you to always not live
- 19:33Speaker 1: in your own not not not not to live in yourself,
- 19:36Speaker 1: but to be to be giving and to and to
- 19:38Speaker 1: understand other people's plight and also understand like how blessed
- 19:41Speaker 1: you are. And I tell you all the time. You know,
- 19:44Speaker 1: we get so lost in America. Like you know, but
- 19:47Speaker 1: if you have a global if you have a global citizen,
- 19:49Speaker 1: if you're global citizen, and you see the rest of
- 19:50Speaker 1: the world, to be to be in the top one
- 19:52Speaker 1: percent of the world, you gotta make like forty five
- 19:55Speaker 1: dollars to be in the top one percent of the world. Yeah,
- 19:58Speaker 1: the rest of the world would never own a car,
- 20:00Speaker 1: or buy a home or go to college. Are you
- 20:03Speaker 1: kidding me? Like, you know, look at all the poverty
- 20:04Speaker 1: in in in Africa, in South America, in Asia, you
- 20:08Speaker 1: know the thing. But these people are literally dying in
- 20:11Speaker 1: in holding sales right now trying to get to America. Yeah,
- 20:15Speaker 1: you see what I'm saying. So it's so that you
- 20:16Speaker 1: have to have a global if you have if you
- 20:18Speaker 1: really have a global perspective and you look like you
- 20:20Speaker 1: look at the world, there's so much to be really
- 20:22Speaker 1: really thankful for And so then you start to get
- 20:25Speaker 1: to the point where the things that used to bother you,
- 20:27Speaker 1: those feelings don't stay long. They visit, but they don't
- 20:29Speaker 1: spend the night, you know what I mean? And and
- 20:31Speaker 1: and that's to me not to visit, but they don't
- 20:33Speaker 1: spend the night. Write that down, yeah you know, but yeah,
- 20:36Speaker 1: it's yeah, they can visit. They can visit. Yeah, you're
- 20:39Speaker 1: you're you're a person, you know what I mean. And
- 20:41Speaker 1: and you you will be disappointed, you be heard that
- 20:44Speaker 1: things will happen not going your way. But so they'll
- 20:46Speaker 1: let them. They'll visit, but they can't stay to night.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Well does forgiveness look like to you? First? And I'll
- 20:51Speaker 1: forgive yourself? What do you mean? Um? I think we
- 20:54Speaker 1: are so hard on ourselves, you know, Um, But I
- 20:58Speaker 1: feel that every step of the in your journey of life,
- 21:01Speaker 1: you're making some of the biggest decisions with very little foresight.
- 21:04Speaker 1: And it's only in retrospect that you can see if
- 21:06Speaker 1: that was the right decisions. So, as you go through life,
- 21:08Speaker 1: you know, you can't find peace and someone else if
- 21:11Speaker 1: you don't have peace in yourself. Right, I already say
- 21:14Speaker 1: you can only meet someone as deeply as you've met yourself.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Sit still, deal with your own trauma, deal with your
- 21:20Speaker 1: own pain, deal with your own brokenness. Forgive yourself right first,
- 21:24Speaker 1: that createss abundant heart that you can then extend other
- 21:28Speaker 1: people to write. But but you gotta take care to
- 21:30Speaker 1: treat first, you know, or last the branches won't flourish. Right,
- 21:34Speaker 1: I'm I'm a big believer that the way to begin
- 21:39Speaker 1: your journey the wholeness for yourself and the way to
- 21:41Speaker 1: find yourself for healing yourself is through self inquiry. Right,
- 21:44Speaker 1: It's through like really excavating your thoughts, your past experiences,
- 21:49Speaker 1: asking yourself lots and lots of questions, and even when
- 21:53Speaker 1: you think you have an answer, ask more questions, digging.
- 21:56Speaker 1: So what does that look like for you, That that
- 21:59Speaker 1: experience of being able to get to a place where
- 22:02Speaker 1: you forgive yourself, that that experience of meeting yourself. I
- 22:05Speaker 1: should say, yeah, you know, and it's and it's and
- 22:07Speaker 1: it's just and it's it's a journey, you know what
- 22:09Speaker 1: I mean. It's it's it's it's that never has a destination,
- 22:12Speaker 1: but you but you are committed it to You are
- 22:14Speaker 1: just committed to it because you're still alive something justest
- 22:17Speaker 1: have work to do. But for me, it's um, it
- 22:20Speaker 1: starts with like having a value system, right, having pillars,
- 22:24Speaker 1: having a value system almost like a board members that
- 22:27Speaker 1: I want to answer to everything, you know what I mean,
- 22:30Speaker 1: And the value system allows me to allows me to
- 22:33Speaker 1: make sure that like if I'm honoring those five value
- 22:35Speaker 1: you know, there's a lot of values. You gotta pick
- 22:37Speaker 1: your own five that that you can I think like
- 22:40Speaker 1: like four or five values that you are not going
- 22:43Speaker 1: to compromise for anyone for anything. And you you know,
- 22:48Speaker 1: and you and you have those pillars, right, so like
- 22:51Speaker 1: minus freedom you know, uh, family, generosity, community, right and faith.
- 22:57Speaker 1: And so it's like when I'm oneing through decisions, I'm
- 22:59Speaker 1: making how they affected those five you know, um, and
- 23:02Speaker 1: if I don't feel good about it, I'm not doing it.
- 23:04Speaker 1: I love you so that I actually didn't know that
- 23:07Speaker 1: you did that, but I did the same thing a
- 23:09Speaker 1: few years ago. I kind of created a personal coat
- 23:13Speaker 1: of arms, if you will. You know those you know
- 23:15Speaker 1: those shields you know they have and they would have
- 23:18Speaker 1: four different sections and we like aligning with the bird's
- 23:21Speaker 1: head or you know, but I kind of I kind
- 23:23Speaker 1: of made one of those for myself. And you know
- 23:25Speaker 1: something that especially when I first started this journey of course,
- 23:30Speaker 1: you know healing. Yeah, when when you first start to
- 23:34Speaker 1: heal and transform and dive deeper into who you are,
- 23:37Speaker 1: you know, I thought similarly to you, I thought, how
- 23:41Speaker 1: how can I make this like a creed for my life?
- 23:46Speaker 1: You know? So I kind of I kind of came
- 23:47Speaker 1: up with a mission statement for myself, you know, is
- 23:51Speaker 1: my core belief system exists around the concepts of faith, loyalty, intimacy,
- 23:56Speaker 1: and adventure. I approached these with the knowing peace and
- 24:00Speaker 1: and proactive and their fulfillment. I flow effortlessly, using love
- 24:03Speaker 1: as a leading energy within which I operate daily. So
- 24:07Speaker 1: I kind of wrote that ASP as my mission statement,
- 24:11Speaker 1: and under that I broke down. You know what my
- 24:13Speaker 1: pillars are, which our faith, you know, um, spirituality and
- 24:17Speaker 1: the seeking of the sacred our paramount in my life.
- 24:20Speaker 1: I believe in resilience and transcendent thought. I'm going to
- 24:23Speaker 1: kind of speak through these, um because y'all don't need
- 24:26Speaker 1: to know all this. But the next filler was loyalty.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Honesty is the gift I give myself and others so
- 24:34Speaker 1: that I may build an unshakable trust. I support my
- 24:38Speaker 1: family above all else, and I'm fully committed to that.
- 24:41Speaker 1: We practice forgiveness. We treat one another with empathy and compassion.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Another pillar is intimacy. By communicating our thoughts and feelings,
- 24:49Speaker 1: we foster a deep connection. I believe in facilitating conversations
- 24:53Speaker 1: and experiences so that I may share closeness and a
- 24:56Speaker 1: bond that strengthens me with other people. And the last
- 24:59Speaker 1: one is at vent sure, I believe in fun. I
- 25:01Speaker 1: take this. I operate under the belief that the expiration
- 25:04Speaker 1: of the world and the exploration of myself brings much
- 25:07Speaker 1: joy into me. I learned from and respect other cultures,
- 25:11Speaker 1: and I regularly find moments in which to laugh and
- 25:14Speaker 1: enjoy company the people I love. Wow, So I kind
- 25:18Speaker 1: of you know, because that's powerful and and and just
- 25:21Speaker 1: know when, just know when you and being in your life,
- 25:23Speaker 1: like every second of every day, I've seen you put
- 25:26Speaker 1: this to work. You. Thank you. I've seen you. I
- 25:28Speaker 1: don't always do it perfectly, but I'm telling you, I've
- 25:31Speaker 1: seen you put in the work. You know, and the
- 25:34Speaker 1: and the and the queen that you're transforming into and
- 25:37Speaker 1: the and uh your spirituality. You're you're you're you're like
- 25:42Speaker 1: just the core of you and what that means to
- 25:44Speaker 1: the people around you, you know, the the the pain
- 25:48Speaker 1: we've had to work through everything, Like you've just transformed
- 25:51Speaker 1: into this incredible soul. So thank you. That's the first
- 25:57Speaker 1: time you share with me those creed But it hit
- 25:59Speaker 1: me because I can say I can sit here and
- 26:01Speaker 1: look at you and tell you that's exactly how you're
- 26:03Speaker 1: lead in your life. Oh, thank you so much. So
- 26:05Speaker 1: that's that's powerful. That means a lot. It's funny because
- 26:07Speaker 1: that's actually the first time I've looked at it in
- 26:09Speaker 1: a couple of years. You know, when I first I think,
- 26:12Speaker 1: I think I made that maybe like six years ago,
- 26:15Speaker 1: six years ago, and you know, at first, like I
- 26:17Speaker 1: had printed it out and I would just have it
- 26:18Speaker 1: and it's kind of existing. I like to personally post
- 26:21Speaker 1: a lot of prayers of protection and just like ideology
- 26:26Speaker 1: like that right by my front door, and I take
- 26:28Speaker 1: a moment to take a breath and I read through
- 26:30Speaker 1: it before I kind of go into the world, right,
- 26:33Speaker 1: you know, it's like my armor. But yeah, that's my
- 26:36Speaker 1: first I'm actually reading that um and definitely reading that
- 26:38Speaker 1: loud to anybody and here I am telling it to
- 26:40Speaker 1: all y'all, but that's really powerful. But you know what said,
- 26:43Speaker 1: that's where it starts. All like you write it down
- 26:46Speaker 1: to really define your growth goals, you know, and you
- 26:50Speaker 1: have just wanted you have to you have to want
- 26:52Speaker 1: to be a good person. Yeah, you have to want
- 26:55Speaker 1: to do what's right because it's right, you know what
- 26:57Speaker 1: I'm saying. And you just you just have to fight
- 26:59Speaker 1: and and and uh and and just do it. You know.
- 27:02Speaker 1: I'm so proud of you. That's amazing. Thank you. Thanks
- 27:04Speaker 1: for sharing that. You know, I think too, because it's
- 27:06Speaker 1: like personal growth is so mystified sometimes and now in
- 27:10Speaker 1: this day and age, everything has a yin any yang.
- 27:13Speaker 1: So there's all the attributes of where we're at in
- 27:15Speaker 1: life right now, the chance to dive into that luxury
- 27:18Speaker 1: of figuring out who you are, finding your purpose and
- 27:22Speaker 1: have air quotes as I'm talking. But then there's also
- 27:24Speaker 1: the flip side of that. It becomes overexposed, It becomes
- 27:27Speaker 1: a lucrative way for people to manipulate the money, It
- 27:30Speaker 1: becomes surface in some ways. And so you know, when
- 27:33Speaker 1: you know that you want to grow or change something
- 27:36Speaker 1: in your life, you have to take it past that
- 27:38Speaker 1: surface level of posting the positive quote or the Bible
- 27:42Speaker 1: verse on Instagram, right, like you have to say to yourself, Okay,
- 27:45Speaker 1: I'm not this yet, but how can I embody? How
- 27:49Speaker 1: do I practice this? Just like you would with anything else.
- 27:52Speaker 1: And you know, at the time that I kind of
- 27:53Speaker 1: made that, I was working a lot like I was
- 27:56Speaker 1: when it comes to work. I'm so strategized, I'm so
- 28:00Speaker 1: very true committed, and you know, into the hustle, I
- 28:03Speaker 1: like the being tired and stressed out, and you know,
- 28:06Speaker 1: I'm making lists and vision boards and plans and data
- 28:09Speaker 1: at it up. And you know, I decided I wanted
- 28:12Speaker 1: to apply all of that same logic to my personal development.
- 28:17Speaker 1: I said, let me sit down and really take some
- 28:19Speaker 1: notes about myself. What are my needs? What am I lacking?
- 28:22Speaker 1: What am I great at? What can I enhance? And
- 28:24Speaker 1: so that's why I kind of took time to say,
- 28:26Speaker 1: what is the mission statement of my life? And what
- 28:29Speaker 1: are the pillars that hold that up to be true?
- 28:31Speaker 1: What are the active things that you can do every
- 28:34Speaker 1: day that make that mission true and make it grow?
- 28:37Speaker 1: You know, absolutely, and uh, and You've done it. I've
- 28:40Speaker 1: seen it. You've done it. I've seen it. I'm proud
- 28:43Speaker 1: of you, and I think and you know, we put
- 28:45Speaker 1: so much time into so many other things, but we
- 28:48Speaker 1: never take a step back and take care of the vessel.
- 28:51Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. Because your vessels where everything's
- 28:54Speaker 1: being poured out of. Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 28:56Speaker 1: So you gotta you gotta take care of the vessel.
- 28:58Speaker 1: And yeah, that's actually something I want to talk to
- 29:00Speaker 1: you about. Yeah, yeah, talk about taking care of the vessel.
- 29:04Speaker 1: I worry about you a lot. I know, I can
- 29:07Speaker 1: be anywhere I can. I'm like in London, I could
- 29:08Speaker 1: be anywhere around the world, and I get a text
- 29:10Speaker 1: from Debt, Hey, checking in on you. How you doing?
- 29:12Speaker 1: Are you eating? Did you take your vitamins? You know
- 29:15Speaker 1: what I mean? Like, Hey, did you meditate today? You know?
- 29:18Speaker 1: Are you good? You're You're the only thing about this.
- 29:21Speaker 1: You're the only client ever to actually send me a
- 29:24Speaker 1: SPA treatment. When you did that, he was like, remember
- 29:28Speaker 1: you called me. He was like, listen, you're gonna don't
- 29:30Speaker 1: care what you're doing the debt. You're gonna cancel your afternoon.
- 29:33Speaker 1: I've already booked it, remember that about Yeah, I've already
- 29:36Speaker 1: booked it already set up and if you don't go
- 29:38Speaker 1: home and lose my money. But that was like, it
- 29:40Speaker 1: was like, yeah, that was so sweet because at the
- 29:42Speaker 1: time you were out. We both live in Los Angeles now,
- 29:45Speaker 1: but at the time I think you were living in Yeah.
- 29:49Speaker 1: I was like Google, I looked up like amazing massage
- 29:53Speaker 1: or you know, like I think it was like I
- 29:55Speaker 1: had some energy work too, and yeah, and I was
- 29:57Speaker 1: like take the day off. You're having a point me
- 30:00Speaker 1: at this time. There's two times in my career that
- 30:03Speaker 1: I couldn't find the words right and like that I
- 30:06Speaker 1: remember distinctively. Um one was one of my clients, uh
- 30:11Speaker 1: Scheck mcmanusk um before we were just starting to work together.
- 30:14Speaker 1: He called me and he said hello in Yugana in Luganda,
- 30:17Speaker 1: you know, he called like he like you know what
- 30:19Speaker 1: I mean, and it was just such a sweet thing
- 30:21Speaker 1: for him. Hello, I used to be that thoughtful. It
- 30:24Speaker 1: feels so good to hear you. Yeah, I was like,
- 30:25Speaker 1: but I used to. And then that day when when
- 30:28Speaker 1: you uh and and that spot, it's like, uh, those
- 30:31Speaker 1: those days, those moments stick out for me. It's just like,
- 30:33Speaker 1: you know, somebody thinking about you. But yeah, so you're
- 30:35Speaker 1: worried about me. Huh, I legitimately sorry, I'm gonna guys,
- 30:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna take some SIPs of water. Sometimes they were
- 30:42Speaker 1: talking because I'd be thirsty. Um. Yeah, I really I
- 30:46Speaker 1: really worry about you sometimes because you have a really
- 30:49Speaker 1: big destiny, and I think anybody that meets you feels
- 30:54Speaker 1: the weight of who you are and who you're meant
- 30:57Speaker 1: to be. Yeah, in that first handshake, you know, like
- 31:00Speaker 1: kind of you have this deliberateness about you and this
- 31:04Speaker 1: incredible professionalism, this incredible drive, but really bigger than that,
- 31:08Speaker 1: this this profoundly deep empathy about you. So you are
- 31:12Speaker 1: the kind of person who you're very busy, like here
- 31:16Speaker 1: than probably the busiest person any of us know, you know,
- 31:20Speaker 1: like you have so many a list clients that are
- 31:23Speaker 1: doing world changing things right, and you're one of these
- 31:26Speaker 1: people that when you work with people, you're really the
- 31:28Speaker 1: one stop shop. Like you'r who I go to about finances,
- 31:31Speaker 1: about legal stuff, about life stuff, about ideas, about connections.
- 31:36Speaker 1: You know, like you're just one of those people that's
- 31:39Speaker 1: really a tool that connector you know. And so but
- 31:43Speaker 1: you still find so much time for your clients. And
- 31:45Speaker 1: I remember I was at a rough point in my
- 31:47Speaker 1: life many months ago, and no matter what day it was,
- 31:50Speaker 1: no matter what time it was, you could be in
- 31:53Speaker 1: a board meeting. You know, if you would, you would
- 31:55Speaker 1: stop what you were doing and you would sit on
- 31:57Speaker 1: the phone with me for however long I need it.
- 32:00Speaker 1: And I'm a very long winded person, so these weren't
- 32:03Speaker 1: you know. It wasn't like, okay, let me step out
- 32:05Speaker 1: real quick. Good, No, it was like, you know, I
- 32:08Speaker 1: would tie you to the phone for an hour or more.
- 32:12Speaker 1: And then when I started meeting more of your clients
- 32:15Speaker 1: and they would share that you would do the same
- 32:16Speaker 1: things for them. And then I'm trying to do the math,
- 32:19Speaker 1: and I'm like, well, there's only twenty four hours of
- 32:21Speaker 1: a day, you know. And I remember I asked you
- 32:24Speaker 1: about it once and I'm like, how how do you
- 32:26Speaker 1: find the time to be so much to so many people?
- 32:29Speaker 1: You know you had kind of shared that, well, you know,
- 32:32Speaker 1: the work still has to get done. So if I
- 32:34Speaker 1: had to take an hour or four hours to help
- 32:36Speaker 1: someone in crisis today, I still do my work. So
- 32:39Speaker 1: that takes away from my time with myself, That takes
- 32:42Speaker 1: away from me at home, and I you know, the
- 32:45Speaker 1: work is still going to get done, and that just
- 32:48Speaker 1: really stuck with me. One the level of self sacrifice
- 32:53Speaker 1: that you give to other people. And then it also
- 32:55Speaker 1: really hurt my heart because I thought about you, and
- 32:59Speaker 1: I thought about how hard you work and how much
- 33:01Speaker 1: you do for people on just a mental soul you
- 33:05Speaker 1: know level, and I'm like, wait, but who's going to
- 33:08Speaker 1: refill him? So how do you do that? How are
- 33:12Speaker 1: you juggling this? Nor have you had to set more
- 33:15Speaker 1: boundaries in your life and not take on things from
- 33:18Speaker 1: other people? You know? How do you fill your cup? Oh?
- 33:21Speaker 1: That's amazing, you know it's uh. When when I hear
- 33:24Speaker 1: you describe it, I'll go, my goodness, I'm maybe I
- 33:27Speaker 1: am taking on a lot, but honestly I love this.
- 33:33Speaker 1: It's like, um, the honor of my life is to
- 33:36Speaker 1: serve these families that are like to protect them and
- 33:41Speaker 1: fight for their for their dreams and help you guys
- 33:44Speaker 1: build your wealth and you know, like meeting your newborn
- 33:47Speaker 1: son quest and know when he's good forever. You know
- 33:50Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Yeah, Like that's like Dad, I mean,
- 33:54Speaker 1: I love what I do so much because of the
- 33:57Speaker 1: people I'm doing it with, but also like the empire
- 34:00Speaker 1: we're having in this world. And um and I always
- 34:03Speaker 1: say cliches, the cliches because they because because they're true,
- 34:06Speaker 1: you know. But like you know, I've never doesn't even
- 34:08Speaker 1: the hardest day doesn't feel like work, if that makes sense,
- 34:11Speaker 1: because I'm just trying. I know that once I cracked
- 34:13Speaker 1: this code for a client, once I figured this out,
- 34:15Speaker 1: you know, they're gonna take off and and and change
- 34:18Speaker 1: their family's lives. So there's two things. I really love
- 34:20Speaker 1: what I do, right, but too when I started this business,
- 34:23Speaker 1: I thought, in this business, I was like, I just
- 34:24Speaker 1: want to protect these people. I don't want to be
- 34:27Speaker 1: taking advantage of I want to teach finance. I want
- 34:29Speaker 1: to make sure they build wealth. I was on a
- 34:31Speaker 1: mission right and and and and I would and I'm
- 34:34Speaker 1: dedicated to that mission. But what came back to me
- 34:37Speaker 1: was seeing, you know, clients become family. Yeah, like I
- 34:41Speaker 1: don't know, I told you my story, like my whole
- 34:44Speaker 1: family has wiped out, so like my client's man's family,
- 34:48Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And so that devotion comes
- 34:50Speaker 1: from a sense of you know, I look at you
- 34:52Speaker 1: like my sister, like this is this is my family,
- 34:54Speaker 1: you know. So that's been the greatest blessings to have
- 34:56Speaker 1: a new family that like idi amine can't take from me.
- 35:01Speaker 1: So I like that. I Um, it's it's it's you give.
- 35:07Speaker 1: But the people you've given to, I'm filling you back up,
- 35:11Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Um and uh. And I've
- 35:13Speaker 1: been really and I said light attracts like, but I've
- 35:16Speaker 1: been really lucky to just work with clients that are
- 35:18Speaker 1: so not only the so dynamic, but there's such good people.
- 35:22Speaker 1: So we just fill each other, fill each other, you
- 35:24Speaker 1: know what I mean. We just we just filled each other. So,
- 35:26Speaker 1: but this is actually my dream, you know what I'm saying,
- 35:29Speaker 1: Like I'm actually living my dream. And and I guess
- 35:32Speaker 1: so paranoid sometimes because I think it's I think I'm
- 35:35Speaker 1: gonna wake up and stop a bucket on my head
- 35:37Speaker 1: and uganda, you know what I'm saying, fetching water and
- 35:40Speaker 1: so I get to my office every day. Of course
- 35:42Speaker 1: it was a dream. I was doing a podcast, you
- 35:44Speaker 1: know what I mean. In Los Angeles would baby like
- 35:47Speaker 1: drinking whatever whatever this stuff is Like I used to
- 35:51Speaker 1: fetch water. Yeah, I used to fetch water. So it's
- 35:53Speaker 1: like I don't I don't believe. I don't. I really
- 35:55Speaker 1: don't believe, Like I live and I don't believe anything.
- 35:58Speaker 1: It's like actually real, I feel like I'm even I'm
- 36:00Speaker 1: in this dream and I'm just trying to like sick
- 36:03Speaker 1: my teeth into it as much as I can before
- 36:07Speaker 1: before I wake up. You know, Oh humble, you got
- 36:10Speaker 1: all the gems, I swear. So you recently celebrated your birthday? Yeah, yeah,
- 36:15Speaker 1: yeah with you. Yeah we did it up. We celebrated
- 36:20Speaker 1: in Mexico, and yeah, we did some fun stuff. It
- 36:25Speaker 1: was great. It was great. Actually many things that cannot
- 36:28Speaker 1: be talked about on this podcast. But what is something
- 36:34Speaker 1: that you're walking into this new year of life with,
- 36:37Speaker 1: you know, at this age, having you know, the kind
- 36:40Speaker 1: of wisdom that is just so painstakingly earned. Man, that's
- 36:45Speaker 1: a great word. Yeah, this next year? What does that
- 36:48Speaker 1: feel like? What does that look like? Because you're still
- 36:50Speaker 1: so young? Yeah, yeah, you know, you're so young and
- 36:54Speaker 1: you're at the top of your craft and you've lived
- 36:57Speaker 1: five lifetimes, right, and I'm feel good, you know, I'm
- 37:00Speaker 1: feeling great. So I I there's a lot of when
- 37:03Speaker 1: I look at what I want to do, and I
- 37:04Speaker 1: look at like a triangle, right, an equilateral triangle. One
- 37:08Speaker 1: side of that triangle is my relentless pursuit of financial
- 37:13Speaker 1: and generational freedom for the families I'm responsible for, right
- 37:16Speaker 1: locked in the other part of that triangle is philanthropy,
- 37:20Speaker 1: right um, finding ways to continue to have an impact
- 37:24Speaker 1: on the children of a country. But and a new
- 37:27Speaker 1: side of the triangle that I'm getting into, UM storytelling,
- 37:30Speaker 1: you know, UM and uh you know, producing films and
- 37:35Speaker 1: and and television and uh and even docuseries that I
- 37:39Speaker 1: want to do. I really want to do two things
- 37:41Speaker 1: with this with this part of this journey. One, I
- 37:43Speaker 1: want to tell stories of women of color, especially Black women,
- 37:47Speaker 1: who are the heroes of their own story. Like nobody
- 37:50Speaker 1: saved them, you know, no husband came, no white guy
- 37:53Speaker 1: on a horse. Like they changed the curse of their
- 37:56Speaker 1: family through pure pain, and they took their changed everything.
- 38:01Speaker 1: I want to find those stories and tell stories because
- 38:04Speaker 1: nobody wants to have an honest conversation about the sacrifices
- 38:07Speaker 1: that black women, you know, indoor on the behalf of
- 38:10Speaker 1: broken men. And and I want to tell those stories
- 38:14Speaker 1: and and show them as the as the heroes, as
- 38:17Speaker 1: a superhero that they are. Right. I know, all the
- 38:18Speaker 1: women listening right now, just take a big breath. You
- 38:20Speaker 1: know somebody and too and too, I want to I
- 38:25Speaker 1: want to. I want to tell stories that make vulnerability
- 38:27Speaker 1: cool and fight this toxic masculinity that's affecting us, especially
- 38:32Speaker 1: as as black as black men. You know, I want
- 38:34Speaker 1: to help black men feel. I want to help black
- 38:37Speaker 1: men heal. And I want to tell stories that that
- 38:39Speaker 1: are very very impactful, that can that can do those
- 38:43Speaker 1: two things. You know. Um, I want to sit there
- 38:46Speaker 1: for just one second because I want to dive into that.
- 38:49Speaker 1: That's something another thing that I just love about you,
- 38:53Speaker 1: and I love seeing that you put into the world.
- 38:56Speaker 1: You're a big hugger, a big hugger. You can give
- 38:59Speaker 1: some of the hugs in life, right, Like there's like
- 39:02Speaker 1: only like you. There's a couple of people that just
- 39:05Speaker 1: give those hugs that you remember, you know. And that's
- 39:09Speaker 1: something that I see you do, especially a lot with
- 39:11Speaker 1: your male clients. You know, like like the physicality of touch,
- 39:14Speaker 1: like not just like a quick little bumper dab. It's like, now,
- 39:18Speaker 1: give me a tight hug, get this hog in my seat.
- 39:22Speaker 1: When you are managing someone's money, you know everything about them,
- 39:25Speaker 1: right It's a it's a very intimate, deep trusting how
- 39:28Speaker 1: much toilet paper they orders. I know, I know, I
- 39:33Speaker 1: know everything. You know what I'm saying, um, and I'm
- 39:36Speaker 1: a volt, so that some stuff I'll be like, I
- 39:39Speaker 1: don't want humble to know to what I just thought.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Let me go take out some cash system, right, that
- 39:50Speaker 1: cash of food. But when you when when you met
- 39:53Speaker 1: when you are managing finances for some of the some
- 39:55Speaker 1: of the biggest names in sports, right, these alpha males
- 39:59Speaker 1: that are warriors and their gladiators, right, and they've taken
- 40:02Speaker 1: they've they've changed their family's name through their physicality. Man,
- 40:05Speaker 1: you start to really see the pain they come from,
- 40:09Speaker 1: the families, they come from, the neighborhoods, they come from,
- 40:12Speaker 1: the trauma they're fighting, you know. And when you humanize
- 40:15Speaker 1: them and you and you, you take away the helmet,
- 40:18Speaker 1: you take away the athletic prowess, and you look at
- 40:21Speaker 1: the core of this human spirit. More than managing their wealth,
- 40:25Speaker 1: I need to manage their wellness, you know what I mean.
- 40:29Speaker 1: I will fly in and have the most intimate conversation.
- 40:33Speaker 1: You know what I mean. I will fly in just
- 40:35Speaker 1: to give them a hug. I'm gonna create a space
- 40:39Speaker 1: where they can tell me anything and I force them
- 40:42Speaker 1: to and going to help them heal. Right, and and
- 40:44Speaker 1: so to me, I can't give the whole world a hug, right,
- 40:48Speaker 1: or I can't. I can't give every um black man
- 40:52Speaker 1: a hug because because I understand their pain. So I'm like,
- 40:54Speaker 1: how do you tell stories that can be entertaining, that
- 40:57Speaker 1: can be impactful, that can be profound. But we can,
- 41:00Speaker 1: but we can start to heal, just start to cry,
- 41:04Speaker 1: start to feel, you know, because if we don't do that,
- 41:06Speaker 1: then we're going to destroy everything we touch, our families, marriages,
- 41:10Speaker 1: um our careers, you know, because we're just walking around
- 41:14Speaker 1: with this pain nobody talks about with his open wounds,
- 41:17Speaker 1: nobody's dealing with, you know, and and trying to find
- 41:21Speaker 1: um peace and and and and chasing women are trying
- 41:24Speaker 1: to find peace in gambling, trying to find peace and achievement.
- 41:27Speaker 1: I mean some people, so folks, they're just hiding from
- 41:30Speaker 1: the trauma. Right. And but what we wasn't We would
- 41:33Speaker 1: never talked to feel, never talked to feel. Like like
- 41:35Speaker 1: I thought about it, I said, my father was an
- 41:37Speaker 1: amazing man, my hero, but I can probably count him
- 41:40Speaker 1: on one hand. I mean, like when you know what
- 41:42Speaker 1: I mean, like if he ever hugged me. I remember,
- 41:46Speaker 1: I remember touch means so to me. So I remember
- 41:50Speaker 1: one of my clients said the real est thing to
- 41:51Speaker 1: me one day. He was like, man, humble, you're the
- 41:53Speaker 1: only man in my life that's never let me down.
- 41:56Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. And you know, another client
- 41:59Speaker 1: told me, may you the only has told me you
- 42:02Speaker 1: loved me? M you know what I mean? And so
- 42:05Speaker 1: like I make these guys, I don't care who you are,
- 42:07Speaker 1: you know what I mean. You know, I give these
- 42:10Speaker 1: guys the biggest hugs and I tell him I lovel
- 42:12Speaker 1: you know what I mean? And uh, and and I
- 42:14Speaker 1: forced them to have a safe place, you know. Um,
- 42:17Speaker 1: Like when you when you watch one of the movies
- 42:19Speaker 1: that really had a big impact in with Fences, right,
- 42:22Speaker 1: you're seeing Denzelo's character. He did such an amazing job,
- 42:24Speaker 1: but you can see his trauma will let him connect
- 42:26Speaker 1: to his son, you know what I mean. It was
- 42:28Speaker 1: like like he's right there in front of him, but
- 42:30Speaker 1: he just can't feel, you know what I mean. And
- 42:32Speaker 1: that and and he's destroying his family from that maximina
- 42:36Speaker 1: and that toxicity. Right, but I see it every day
- 42:39Speaker 1: as well. So something I would say all all the
- 42:41Speaker 1: time is you can't have real, real generation to change
- 42:46Speaker 1: until you see coldness for yourself, you know what I mean?
- 42:49Speaker 1: You know, of course, you know, like being able to
- 42:51Speaker 1: have access you know, to education and build your finances,
- 42:56Speaker 1: get great employment, like all of those things are absolutely valuable,
- 43:00Speaker 1: but real, real soul level generational change, right like breaking
- 43:07Speaker 1: of the quote unquote generational curses, you know, healing the
- 43:11Speaker 1: traumas and not passing them on. That can only happen
- 43:15Speaker 1: when you devote yourself to seeking wholeness or to holding
- 43:19Speaker 1: yourself to heal a thousand percent a thousand percent. And
- 43:23Speaker 1: we've never we've never had the tools or the safe
- 43:26Speaker 1: haven to feel you know what I mean? Men? You know?
- 43:30Speaker 1: So that's third part of that trial was I'm looking
- 43:33Speaker 1: forward to this year. Um, what's the name of your
- 43:35Speaker 1: production company? That's your too full, too ful Productions? Which
- 43:39Speaker 1: is too is like slang and in Luganda, my native tongue,
- 43:43Speaker 1: when somebody's being really honest, you you know, they say
- 43:45Speaker 1: something really honestly like to put too foul, like like
- 43:50Speaker 1: real he's talking about gospel truth, you know, you keeping
- 43:54Speaker 1: it out to do you know? Yeah, So I just
- 43:58Speaker 1: want to tell line of stories and I'm so luck
- 44:00Speaker 1: to be around so many, to be around so many
- 44:02Speaker 1: like incredible storytellers, um creators, And I come up with
- 44:06Speaker 1: these amazing ideas that I think are amazing, and then
- 44:08Speaker 1: I just give them to people that I that I
- 44:11Speaker 1: trusted and they helped me. But you know, I take
- 44:14Speaker 1: a step back, what, like, what is my real calling
- 44:16Speaker 1: in my life? Right? The real calling? Like you know,
- 44:19Speaker 1: this finance whatever you want to call whatever you want
- 44:21Speaker 1: to call me this this this fine this finance here
- 44:23Speaker 1: or this financial manager. Um. What I do is what documented,
- 44:27Speaker 1: but why I do it, um is what inspires me.
- 44:30Speaker 1: And I do it to to just help families heal
- 44:34Speaker 1: and transform, you know, and and and and yeah, sure
- 44:38Speaker 1: finances is a is a core part of that, but
- 44:40Speaker 1: it's more than just managing wealth. It's it's it's really
- 44:42Speaker 1: managing wellness and making and just helping people transform. And
- 44:46Speaker 1: I want to do that on a greater scale, you know.
- 44:48Speaker 1: And I think that's why I'm starting to step out
- 44:50Speaker 1: a little bit and tell my story. I'm so glad
- 44:52Speaker 1: you are. Yeah, I mean for years you've been telling
- 44:55Speaker 1: me too, and people have been telling me too. But
- 44:57Speaker 1: I just never wanted to be a target you know
- 44:58Speaker 1: and U. But but at the end of the day,
- 45:01Speaker 1: it's not about me. I just want to I want
- 45:02Speaker 1: to use my pain and my journey and I want
- 45:04Speaker 1: to I want to I want to uplift and and
- 45:07Speaker 1: uh and inspire people around the world to turn tragedy
- 45:11Speaker 1: into triumph. Yeah you know what I mean. And I
- 45:14Speaker 1: think I can. I can speaker, I can speak on
- 45:17Speaker 1: that confidently, right, So, um, yes, that's what That's what
- 45:20Speaker 1: I'm really looking forward to. But while I have such
- 45:23Speaker 1: a mastermind, uh, such a multi HYPHENI in front of me,
- 45:28Speaker 1: I really want to also give people some like game
- 45:31Speaker 1: right for their careers and for their finances. You have
- 45:35Speaker 1: your hands and a lot of things, as you've just shared.
- 45:37Speaker 1: I mean, you know again, you are running some of
- 45:40Speaker 1: the finances for the biggest hitters in Hollywood right now,
- 45:44Speaker 1: the biggest hitters in sports, executives, lots and lots of creatives.
- 45:49Speaker 1: You have, your your network is massive. The people that
- 45:52Speaker 1: you know and have great relationships with in entertainment and
- 45:55Speaker 1: finance and government and yeah, you got everybody right. Yeah,
- 46:00Speaker 1: I'm lucky. So how how do you get to that place? Like?
- 46:04Speaker 1: What what is one of the things that really helped
- 46:07Speaker 1: you to build and maintain relationships in your field of work.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Oh wow, that's a great question. Um, I want let
- 46:13Speaker 1: me take a step back, and no man is an island, right, So,
- 46:15Speaker 1: like I think that my biggest quality is I know
- 46:19Speaker 1: how to develop talent. So my my team is impeccable,
- 46:23Speaker 1: you know, like my guys, you know, Brandon, Wiobo, Matt,
- 46:27Speaker 1: like my guys incredible, you know how big guys. Your
- 46:31Speaker 1: staff Now, we got we about we had seventeen right
- 46:35Speaker 1: now and then to twenty four by June because we
- 46:37Speaker 1: were kind of a hiring frenzy. But but you know,
- 46:40Speaker 1: I've been with you know, my staff, So first you
- 46:42Speaker 1: got us wrong. First you you I've um, my team
- 46:45Speaker 1: is just impeccable, right and uh and we built a
- 46:49Speaker 1: company culture. There's no bosses, there's no hierarchy, there's nothing.
- 46:52Speaker 1: There's not in that nature. Man, it's just just like
- 46:54Speaker 1: undervoted love for the mission, the mission, the mission, the missions.
- 46:58Speaker 1: No job is too No job is too small, job
- 47:00Speaker 1: is too big? Right. Um? So but to maintain relationships,
- 47:04Speaker 1: you know, always build relationships. For me, it's like I've
- 47:07Speaker 1: always wanted to be around like minded people, you know
- 47:10Speaker 1: what I mean? And so like I like, I love
- 47:13Speaker 1: sitting down this morning and saying, hey, what are you
- 47:14Speaker 1: working on right now? That's that's really inspiring you. Or
- 47:17Speaker 1: tell me, tell me a book that you just read
- 47:19Speaker 1: man that has changed your perspective on something. And I
- 47:22Speaker 1: want to be around light, you know what I mean?
- 47:25Speaker 1: And uh, because then light attracts light, you know. But
- 47:28Speaker 1: how I build what what I'm becoming is through a
- 47:32Speaker 1: pure devotion to humanity. I forget the money, forget the
- 47:36Speaker 1: I mean the at tension. That stuff is not real,
- 47:40Speaker 1: Like it's it's not real because it's crazy. When the
- 47:43Speaker 1: Hollywoo reported it a story on me, right, um, now
- 47:45Speaker 1: everybody's it's hidening me. I'm the same guy, you know
- 47:48Speaker 1: what I'm saying. But it's just like people think that
- 47:50Speaker 1: once you've got people validate you, that now you validated.
- 47:53Speaker 1: But no, like I don't, I don't. I'm I'm grateful,
- 47:55Speaker 1: but I'm so committed to like the devotion of the
- 47:58Speaker 1: human spirit and like and like making sure that the
- 48:00Speaker 1: people I'm responsible for I taken care of, right, And
- 48:03Speaker 1: so I tell people the time, like you have to
- 48:05Speaker 1: figure out what that means for you, like, because if
- 48:07Speaker 1: you're chasing money, Well, you're not really chasing that purpose.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Even if you do attain the money, you're gonna feel
- 48:12Speaker 1: so empty. Yeah, you know what I mean. It's like
- 48:16Speaker 1: it's like it's like, when it's all said and done
- 48:19Speaker 1: and you're ninety years old, what impact did you have
- 48:21Speaker 1: on others? Like, how did you how did you serve?
- 48:23Speaker 1: Answer to me, My leadership style is servitude. I just
- 48:27Speaker 1: love to serve, serve, serve, serve, serve, and that creates
- 48:30Speaker 1: like this flow of of of of goodness that attracts people,
- 48:34Speaker 1: you know, and they tell people and other people tell
- 48:36Speaker 1: people and then you just you just keep serving, you know.
- 48:39Speaker 1: So that's that's my that's my mindset. And I think
- 48:41Speaker 1: your your network grows as you help more people. Yeah,
- 48:45Speaker 1: you know, I think a lot of people come into
- 48:46Speaker 1: it saying like, Okay, what can you do for me?
- 48:48Speaker 1: But I've never thought about it that way, even even
- 48:50Speaker 1: when I was in a kid, right, just like naturally,
- 48:52Speaker 1: even when I was starting out, I was always like, Okay,
- 48:54Speaker 1: I'm gonna help this person get here. I'm gonna help
- 48:56Speaker 1: this person get here. I'm gonna help this person get here.
- 48:58Speaker 1: And I tell people all the time, you can accomplish anything.
- 49:01Speaker 1: You can accomplish all that you want out of your
- 49:03Speaker 1: life if you help as many people as you can
- 49:05Speaker 1: get all that they want out of life. You know
- 49:09Speaker 1: what I mean, Because the high tide lips all boats. Yeah,
- 49:14Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And so service service service,
- 49:16Speaker 1: you know, And that's how And basically, so the cheat
- 49:19Speaker 1: code really is be authentic and be a good person. Help,
- 49:23Speaker 1: don't don't don't don't say what, don't say what can
- 49:26Speaker 1: somebody do for me? What can I do for you?
- 49:28Speaker 1: Or yeah, you want to do this, Okay, I'm going
- 49:30Speaker 1: to connect you with this person. And you want to
- 49:31Speaker 1: do this, I'm gonna connect you with this person. Even
- 49:33Speaker 1: when I was younger and and uh and I wanted
- 49:35Speaker 1: to get like some advice of eighteen years old, trying
- 49:37Speaker 1: to figure things out, and I would call like mentors.
- 49:39Speaker 1: I would say, hey, listen, I want to come more
- 49:41Speaker 1: your grass for thirty minutes of your time. Wow, you
- 49:44Speaker 1: know what I'm saying that again, So, like I always
- 49:48Speaker 1: knew that if I it always has to be like
- 49:51Speaker 1: it can't be a one way you know what I mean.
- 49:52Speaker 1: You can't be like I gotta feed you. I think
- 49:54Speaker 1: that's one of the biggest things that young people make, right,
- 49:57Speaker 1: because a big buzzword is mentor, like find a mentor,
- 50:00Speaker 1: or you know, get an internship or you know. But
- 50:04Speaker 1: it's this sense that young people have, and I think
- 50:06Speaker 1: it's really because they just when you're when you're at
- 50:09Speaker 1: a certain age, life has always revolved around you and
- 50:12Speaker 1: your home and at your school, so that narrative continues
- 50:15Speaker 1: until you get a little bit more life experience. But
- 50:18Speaker 1: you think that everybody needs to just give to you
- 50:22Speaker 1: because you're asking. I give knowledge, give time, give opportunity,
- 50:27Speaker 1: all simply because you're asking for it. And in no
- 50:30Speaker 1: way do you see the need to reciprocate their relationship
- 50:33Speaker 1: or give of whatever it is that you have. You
- 50:36Speaker 1: know that that I think that for me, that's my
- 50:39Speaker 1: biggest frustration when I've had interns in the past and
- 50:42Speaker 1: what I hear, you know, from other people about about
- 50:46Speaker 1: young minds that they've worked with, because it is a relationship.
- 50:50Speaker 1: It's just I don't know, you like that you have
- 50:53Speaker 1: my child, you know what. I think. I think a
- 50:55Speaker 1: lot of people want the mentor to take on the
- 50:57Speaker 1: role of a pseudo parent, of course, you know, like
- 50:59Speaker 1: I want to be able to have whatever kind of
- 51:01Speaker 1: bad or brady behavior I want, but still see the
- 51:04Speaker 1: best in me. Still give me chances and give me opportunities.
- 51:08Speaker 1: And you know it's I think the people that figure
- 51:10Speaker 1: that out younger do the best. That That's one of
- 51:14Speaker 1: the series I knew. I knew, like even in my
- 51:17Speaker 1: very first internship and you know, getting started. I used
- 51:19Speaker 1: to intern at a label and interned for Universal, I
- 51:23Speaker 1: interned for Interscope, I interned at a radio station. But
- 51:26Speaker 1: I was always like, what can I do for you
- 51:29Speaker 1: outside of the jest, you know, the very typical I'll
- 51:32Speaker 1: go get your coffee. People can get their own damn coffee.
- 51:35Speaker 1: What can I do for you? What do you need?
- 51:37Speaker 1: What are your pressure? How can how can I enhance
- 51:40Speaker 1: whatever you're working on without you telling me? How can
- 51:42Speaker 1: I be intuitive to what your needs are and provide something?
- 51:46Speaker 1: You know, to be able to have the honor of
- 51:48Speaker 1: getting your time and getting your attention and your opportunity.
- 51:51Speaker 1: The more people you can help, the bigger your inmpluments
- 51:54Speaker 1: are going to be and everything else they're going to
- 51:56Speaker 1: come to that. But one thing that I was I
- 51:58Speaker 1: tell young people they're listening, is just start where you
- 52:01Speaker 1: are and be excellent, Like be like if you if
- 52:05Speaker 1: if right now you are stock in the shelves at
- 52:09Speaker 1: office depot, be that be the greatest like at that
- 52:14Speaker 1: role than anybody in the company. You know, because when
- 52:17Speaker 1: you start to practice like habits of excellence, you get
- 52:20Speaker 1: just like muscle memory and then one day what you
- 52:22Speaker 1: really want to do or whatever's gonna happen, and guess what, man,
- 52:25Speaker 1: you have the you have those habits, you know. And
- 52:27Speaker 1: I tell people in the time, like if you know,
- 52:29Speaker 1: how are you gonna take over the role? And you
- 52:30Speaker 1: can't you don't make your bed in the morning, like
- 52:33Speaker 1: you's know what I'm saying. I don't like like it.
- 52:36Speaker 1: It's a discipline of just you know. And I'm like,
- 52:41Speaker 1: just more than knowing what you want to do with
- 52:43Speaker 1: your life, is just like getting really good at getting
- 52:47Speaker 1: really good, you know what I'm saying. And it's like
- 52:50Speaker 1: and and just dominating where you are because doors start
- 52:53Speaker 1: to open, you know, the mean doors start to open
- 52:55Speaker 1: and you'd be surprised it's gonna come. Someone's gonna notice that.
- 52:58Speaker 1: I'm like, man, you need to come work for me.
- 52:59Speaker 1: You need to do this because you are just so
- 53:02Speaker 1: committed to where you are mediocre is so prevalent. So
- 53:05Speaker 1: when you are seeking excellence, man, you stand out, comediate,
- 53:10Speaker 1: you stand out, you know, and uh, but you're not
- 53:15Speaker 1: gonna turn it on. Like it's it's like if you
- 53:17Speaker 1: don't if you don't have excellence, if you don't have
- 53:19Speaker 1: discipline and habits that you practice, even if you're an
- 53:22Speaker 1: opportunity comes, you're not going to be able to take
- 53:25Speaker 1: advantagement because you do not have the muscle memory. Yeah,
- 53:28Speaker 1: you know what I mean. It's almost like going to
- 53:30Speaker 1: work out, right, you go to work out and like
- 53:32Speaker 1: maybe you trying to put up two hundred pounds and
- 53:33Speaker 1: it's heavy and you can't do it, but you keep
- 53:35Speaker 1: going and keep going and keep going. Eventually you you
- 53:38Speaker 1: do it. You know the way it didn't change, you
- 53:41Speaker 1: got stronger. But but I see so many people wasting
- 53:43Speaker 1: their lives just like like the opportunity is here, but
- 53:46Speaker 1: your character isn't ready. It's not ready, like you know,
- 53:48Speaker 1: and it's like and wherever you are, like right now,
- 53:51Speaker 1: you're you're in the mail room, right, kill it, kill it,
- 53:56Speaker 1: kill it, because if you can't kill the marl room,
- 53:57Speaker 1: you're gonna you're gonna kill this next level. And you know,
- 54:00Speaker 1: I think is a is hard for people now. So
- 54:02Speaker 1: you and I are both at the very top end
- 54:05Speaker 1: of millennials at that point. Yeah, technically we're considered millennials, right,
- 54:09Speaker 1: but we are at the very very tippity top of it.
- 54:13Speaker 1: So we remember a life prior to cell phones. Really
- 54:17Speaker 1: like the girl, you just write me that letter and
- 54:20Speaker 1: folded up fancy, you know, let me let me unfolded,
- 54:23Speaker 1: make it a little shape. Damn, I haven't thought about that.
- 54:30Speaker 1: We had to work, but yeah, you know, so we
- 54:32Speaker 1: remember life prior to social media. I was in college
- 54:35Speaker 1: when Facebook launched, when you still needed it to You
- 54:38Speaker 1: still needed to actually be a college student to sign
- 54:41Speaker 1: up for Facebook. It was called the Facebook dot com. Yeah,
- 54:46Speaker 1: you know, the Black Planets and the my Space anyway,
- 54:49Speaker 1: So we remember life life before those things. Um, which
- 54:52Speaker 1: is truly a blessing now I'm realizing. But I think
- 54:55Speaker 1: what's really tough for young people now that are trying
- 54:57Speaker 1: to develop their character and go out and get it
- 54:59Speaker 1: is all of the social proof. Like when we were
- 55:02Speaker 1: when we were starting, there was at most I was
- 55:05Speaker 1: putting pictures up once in a while on my MySpace
- 55:08Speaker 1: page that I scanned into my computer. You know what
- 55:11Speaker 1: I mean. So it's like, and there wasn't a section
- 55:15Speaker 1: for like, you know, a bio in the sense that Hi,
- 55:18Speaker 1: I'm a you know whatever, I'm the CEO of you
- 55:22Speaker 1: double down production something that does not exist yet or
- 55:25Speaker 1: you know. So I think for now for a lot
- 55:28Speaker 1: of people, because everything they think, everything about their identity
- 55:33Speaker 1: is wrapped around what their social proof is, what they
- 55:36Speaker 1: can be perceived as a proof. Nobody wants to be
- 55:39Speaker 1: seen when they're starting. Everybody wants to be seen seen
- 55:44Speaker 1: from a standpoint yeah of people. You know, you want
- 55:49Speaker 1: people to compare yourself themselves to you. You want people
- 55:52Speaker 1: to have a little what are they doing? You know?
- 55:54Speaker 1: And it doesn't because their minds work that way. Doesn't
- 55:57Speaker 1: give them the opportunity to be grateful for where they're
- 56:00Speaker 1: at in the starting point and to just slowly cultivate
- 56:03Speaker 1: and grind and build where you want to be. They
- 56:05Speaker 1: have to wake up and be it or they're worthless,
- 56:08Speaker 1: you know. And so it takes out the understanding of
- 56:11Speaker 1: how work in the world works. It's such a big way. Yeah,
- 56:14Speaker 1: it's so true. And our say comparison as a thief
- 56:17Speaker 1: of joy, you know what I mean, because your journey
- 56:21Speaker 1: is your journey. It's yours. It's your journey. Man, like
- 56:25Speaker 1: you you we all got built different cards and so
- 56:28Speaker 1: may just play your hand as well as you can
- 56:30Speaker 1: and be proud of that. But they you know, it's
- 56:33Speaker 1: so true what you're saying, because when I take a
- 56:35Speaker 1: step back and look at the where we are with
- 56:37Speaker 1: social media, it is the first time, at least in
- 56:40Speaker 1: my life that people think people are disposable. Yeah, like people,
- 56:44Speaker 1: what you think people are disposable because you can just
- 56:46Speaker 1: follow on follow or swipe rights right, like you said, people,
- 56:49Speaker 1: It's just it's crazy, you know, so that the value
- 56:52Speaker 1: of humanity isn't a very crazy fun. It's a very
- 56:55Speaker 1: it's a crazy function. Right now where we are we
- 56:58Speaker 1: really crazy sensitized. I don't know if that's even the
- 57:00Speaker 1: right word to use for this, but like, for instance,
- 57:03Speaker 1: right like someone could have a million followers, but now
- 57:06Speaker 1: if there's someone else that has four million followers, then
- 57:08Speaker 1: they're not yet and you're and you're thinking to yourself, well, yeah,
- 57:11Speaker 1: they have a million followers, but whatever, that's one million people.
- 57:15Speaker 1: Like these numbers are getting so big that you can't
- 57:18Speaker 1: even wrap your mind around it for it to seem
- 57:20Speaker 1: like a real thing, you know, like I think one
- 57:23Speaker 1: of the Kardashians has one hundred million followers, one hundred
- 57:28Speaker 1: million people. I can't even envision that. That's that's like
- 57:32Speaker 1: a whole country, right, Yeah, it's bizarre, it's a very
- 57:36Speaker 1: but you also have to feel you also have to
- 57:38Speaker 1: you also take a step back and you kind of
- 57:40Speaker 1: seeing that you have to ask yourself what impact that
- 57:42Speaker 1: you're making with your Yeah? Yeah, how much do you
- 57:45Speaker 1: like really mean to you? You know, why are you
- 57:48Speaker 1: tied to that as your as your measure of how
- 57:51Speaker 1: you feel about yourself? And it's not all our fault.
- 57:53Speaker 1: I mean in reality, like this is this is a
- 57:57Speaker 1: new drug, been programmed some of the ways that we feel.
- 58:02Speaker 1: It's not even in our own wheelhouse to feel that
- 58:04Speaker 1: way like we have been trained to feel. And then
- 58:07Speaker 1: you have to try to figure out that you feel
- 58:09Speaker 1: this way and try to reel it back in. Um,
- 58:12Speaker 1: that's interesting. It's also it's also but it's also so
- 58:15Speaker 1: great because it's like now you have access to some
- 58:18Speaker 1: of them, you know what I mean, Like, can you
- 58:20Speaker 1: imagine that we were coming up you could I couldn't
- 58:21Speaker 1: talk to like a Malcolm Gladwell, I just hit him
- 58:24Speaker 1: up and we talk on or I couldn't you can
- 58:26Speaker 1: talk like you you didn't know what your favorite person like,
- 58:29Speaker 1: you know what I mean? You didn't like the people
- 58:31Speaker 1: You're world The world seem so far and like, but
- 58:33Speaker 1: now we're still connected, and now we're seeing things happen
- 58:35Speaker 1: in real time. We're seeing pros, you know, police brutality,
- 58:38Speaker 1: We're seeing like things happen in real time. You know,
- 58:41Speaker 1: we're having the same conversations. So there's so much there's
- 58:43Speaker 1: so much great things happening right now. But from the
- 58:45Speaker 1: young people, man, it's like you want to just make
- 58:48Speaker 1: sure that like dream your dreams, but don't pretend, like,
- 58:53Speaker 1: don't pretend like if that's what you want to do it,
- 58:57Speaker 1: don't don't have two lives right where on or on
- 59:00Speaker 1: your socials, you know what I mean. Don't calm people, Yeah,
- 59:04Speaker 1: don't calm your don't calm yourself. You know, like you
- 59:07Speaker 1: have your dreams, but don't pretend, like, put that grind
- 59:09Speaker 1: and put that work in and really be and really
- 59:13Speaker 1: get to where you want to go instead of instead
- 59:14Speaker 1: of instead of having one life that you that you
- 59:17Speaker 1: present and then the real life that you that you
- 59:20Speaker 1: live because the only person you're hurting is yourself. Right,
- 59:23Speaker 1: you got a chance to figure out who you are,
- 59:25Speaker 1: to love, who you are for for where you are.
- 59:30Speaker 1: What is what's one of the biggest difficulties that you
- 59:34Speaker 1: experience working with clients who have a lot of wealth.
- 59:38Speaker 1: Everybody is really different, but I think the biggest, the biggest,
- 59:40Speaker 1: the hardest challenge is slowing everything down and taking this
- 59:45Speaker 1: winning this race out of turtle space and keeping the
- 59:47Speaker 1: wolves away because is you know, family members, right, uh, friends,
- 59:55Speaker 1: you know, old pastors, you know, the whole, the whole.
- 59:58Speaker 1: Because what happens, especially in sports, to your salaries public
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: that's crazy to me, you know what I mean? Like
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: that the second client signs a big deal is everywhere
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: or espen Now now your pastors calling, You're saying, we
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: gotta fix the roof and it's gonna be two and
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: fifty dollars, you know what I mean. Every every dinner
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: you have, they're looking at you like, you know, every
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: family member doesn't want to work, and nobody wants to work.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: It's just like it's so much, it's so much pressure,
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: and they want to have the same level of lifestyle
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: as you. You know, what I mean they want yeah,
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: so and it's like and and also you know when
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: you come into money, so so suddenly you're still you're
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: still young, you know, but you have so much, right, So,
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: how do you how do you get a young person
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: you buy in right away, especially with their careers are
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: going to be short, right? Um, So you know the
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: challenges are there, but the most the hardest thing though
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: is behavior, behavior, behavior behavior. You have to influence behavior,
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: you have to change behavior because how you spend money
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: is directly linked to your value system, directly linked. You know.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: That's how to solve case is they just chase the money,
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: you know, that's what this person is into money? You know,
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: So how do you get someone not to buy the
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: chain and not to give money to their family members
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: and their friends, and not to pay everybody's rent? And
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: there's a difference, there's a difference between hoping and enabling, right,
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: And there's a difference also, um, And also it's like,
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: what tell me what's important to you and then let's
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: make sure that every decision we make is directly linked
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: to those values. If you're telling me the generational wealth,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: making sure that your your all these people are gonna
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: be good. Well, uh, those decisions directly, those decisions helping
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: that you know, so it's happened, really honest conversations. Money
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: is just a tool for freedom, um. And it's and
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: if you, if you're able to use it right, you
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: can free yourself and your family from a life of limitations,
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: especially for us people of color, where this country will
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: never be for us, right, it's just not the way
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: it's set up. Right. So you want your children's children
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: to never be never have a ceiling. You want them
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: to be free from all fear, all limitation. That's what
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: that's what's a powerful about this. And so any single
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: person that's like taking you from that, from that point
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: in your life, it's just not worth it, you know. Um.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: And I'm not saying don't help, but sometimes you have
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: to take a step back and realize, Okay, am I
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: really helping? Am I really enabling? And is there a
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: better way to do so? So I always tell clients
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: is this, if somebody calls your family, member, cousin, friend, whatever,
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: anybody calls you're asking you for money, it's just simply
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: just tell them just to write up a three four
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: page business plan. See if they'll do it. And then
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: you're thinking, yeah, don't do it. Want to give me
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: this just to go to go, you know what I mean?
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: Or just make them do a little work, you know
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: what I mean? Or hey, I want to get into this. Okay, cool,
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: I'll pay for your courses, you know. So like make
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: people meet you, make people meet you, Um, at least halfway,
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: you know. But um, it's it's it's tough to it's
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: it's tough when you're younger because of the survivor's guilt
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: and the way people make you feel. And also, um,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: you don't want to be the only person on the
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: hill by yourself. Right, So I'm like, you'll pick your
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: ball and let's go. Everybody can't come? Yeah, and you're young.
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: Everybody more people, Yeah, you gotta everybody can come. What
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: are ways that the average person without much extra unspoken
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: for income, you know, how can they start financially empowering themselves?
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: The great question I think the first thing for anyone
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: at the end of the day, um, is like, have
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: a conversation about money and what it means to you.
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: What what does it mean? What does it mean? Right?
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Because I don't think people like is it it's to
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: get rich? Is it to have nice things? Like what
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: is it? What is it? Um? What is the value
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: that you want to derive for money? From there, you
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: have to start being disciplined and how you're spending. Right,
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: so it's like figure out what are your bills? What
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: your bills are? You know, and I said, I said
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: pay yourself first. So before you pay your your bills,
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: pay yourself first. But what I mean that say first,
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: you know, put ten percent away first, and then oh yeah,
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: you know, you know, whatever you can, whatever you can
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: afford to. Just start to discipline of putting something away,
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: pay both paying yourself first. You know, your check comes
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: in and you're saving his account, you save ten percent
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: whatever it may be. Paid yourself first. Then you start
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: to pay your bills and over time like that discipline,
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: you know what I mean, allowed you to to to
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: start to build up your cash reserves. Right then you
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: also have to think about debt. What kind of debt
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: do you have? You know? And I think a lot
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: of young people a man get to get really unraveled
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: and consumer debt um and so a lot of credit
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: card debt and so you have to figure out you
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: gotta take care that that that debt as soon as possible,
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: because just so crippling. This interest rates are crazy, right,
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: and nobody prepares you for that. They walk, you walk on,
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: you walk onto college campus, and you know, for a
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: pizza and a T shirt. He's a he's he's a
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: he's a he's a visa credit card. Not no one,
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: you know. Literally that's what happens to me. And I
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: think it's illegal. Now. When I was in college, it
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: was like every time you went to the quad, there
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: would be a new credit card company trying to sign
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: you up and give you hot dog or slice the pizza.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: And you know, one days where I was running low,
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: like well, dang, I wants the visa, I was signed
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: up for the card. Now you know, I had no
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: I had no financial literacy, had no concept of credit
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: or what it could do to you, or you know
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: even that you really had to pay it back right
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: away or what it interests rate is you know, you know,
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: and it's in trouble for a while. Man, that is
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: that is crippling. You know, I had an old Navy
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: card that almost took me out. Yeah, but you know,
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: um having financial stability, Um, it's almost like you know,
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: um getting in shape, right, It's very simple, like you know,
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: you make this much, live like this, save this much,
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: and and and and as you get more you you escalate.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: You in those disciplines, people just overspend, you know. I
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: mean I see people all the time with balenci balenciagas
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: on and I'm like, what what would you have an
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: et T shirt on? You know what I mean? And
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: and you're and you have you know, used to working
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: in your Like it's just it's just changing the mindset
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: of just not being a consumer but being um, you know,
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: an investor if anything, like you know you're buying all
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: this George may buy some Nike style, you know, go
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: from being the consumer to be the investor, you know
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: what I mean. So hard, we're not most of us
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: are not tough financial literacy, you know, and most of
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: us there's a lot of people whose parents weren't financially
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: literally who you know exist see one pay check to
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: one paycheck, So you just don't have that modeling, especially
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: in black and brown communities. I feel like, you know,
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: you know what's so crazy, there's so much survival, so
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: much survival, and it's almost like even even like trying
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: to talk ment to heaven you know, I try to
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: do a lot of work workshops and enighbor and you know,
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: an urban neighborhoods and talk about communities and trying to
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: get people to put together will man. Man, it's like
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: you know they you know, it's it's like it's almost
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: like you've been beating up for so long that you're
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: like your own your own life is worthy, right because
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: think about it, the reason why you save, or I save,
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: or anyone saves is because they innately believe that the
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: feature will be better. Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: It's like you you know, you're saving because you like
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: life is going to get better, right, But if you
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: don't have that home and you know, and like you
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: just living day to day, it's very very hard. You know,
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: it's very very very very hard to change that that
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: that generation of that of that plight. So I'm sensitive
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: to that. For sure. This is the age and we're
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: gonna have to wrap up soon, but this is the
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: age of the entrepreneur. So one way that I definitely
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: see a lot of people elevating themselves um in the
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: recent years is by having side hustles. It's by doing
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: things on the side to add that extra money, so
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: they have disposable income to do things like travel or
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: save or you know, build towards something else. Like a
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: lot of people are fully on their grind mode right now.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: What are what would you think are some ways that
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: people can start generating extra income, even just small amounts,
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: right Just to give you a little more breathing room, Yeah,
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: we know, there there, there's there are a lot of
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: things you can do to make extra income that I'm
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: sure are legal. But this is what I fundamentally believe
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: in my heart of hearts. The quicker you can find
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: something that that just keeps you up at night that
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: you love. I just want to sinking teething and put
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: in ten years of undeniable persistence. That's how you transform
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: your life because at some point you only get compensated
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: based on how rare you are. Write that down, you
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. That's you will you will only
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: get conservation how rare you are. You know, you can
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: have six stand up comedy, six stand up comedians doing
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: doing routines, but one is making. It's just like I'm
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: telling you, you can be you know, you can be
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: doing the same job. But so so it's like a
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: lot of side houses to me, like it's it's almost
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: like when when when the captain doesn't know what direction
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: you know the ship is going no wind dis favorable,
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So it's like it's, you know,
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: the quicker come, you know the quicker. You can just
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: like lock in on something and put in ten years,
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: you know, the quicker. You're gonna be gonna separate yourself
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: and then the money will come, you know what I mean.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: But the nobody wants to Nobody wants to talk about
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: ten years though, you know I say nobody wants to nobody.
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: They just so I just feel like, if you're if
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: you want to transform your life, you gotta you gotta
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: lock in the way we think about time is so interesting.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: You know, ten years seems like an eternity. Actually, depending
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: on what age you are in early twenties, ten years
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: is unfathomable. Um, but ten years fly blink of an eye.
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: And the thing that I've really realized is the time
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: is going to pass anyway. It's going to pass anyway.
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: You know, the time is gonna pass anyway. Because sometimes
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: some of your goals seem very like insurmountable or like
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: oh God, but that's gonna you know, if I want
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: to do this, that's gonna take me four years to
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: do and that so I'm just not even going to
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: attempt this too much. Well, the time it's going to
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: pass anyway, pass anyway, But the end of that four
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: years or ten years or what will you have to
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: show for it? Man? You know? And we get into
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: our thirties, right, which is a crazy which is a
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: crazy time because you know, I remember being a high
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: school and fifties had the realist line. He was like,
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: damn homie. In high school, he was the man homie.
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: Well you know what happened to you, happened up you,
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: and and it was just like you didn't thought about
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: it because you was a kid. But now I'm thirty
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: three and you're saying, like the people you grew up with,
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: it's just like, man, that ten years can change everything,
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: you know what, it can change everything? And so and uh, man,
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: it's what you have to put in the work, and
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: there's no way, there's no way around it, right, um.
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: And I just think that sometimes people just want to
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: like get there, right, But think about it, man, Like
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: you if you if you were driving from New York
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: City to California and the pitch dark, and the only
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: thing you can see is the hundred feet of headlight.
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: Right That's all you can see. But if you keep
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: going forward, the next one to feet show up. You
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: keep going forward, the next hun to fee show up.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: Eventually you get to California. Only see a hundred feet
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: at a time, you know what I mean. And so
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: to me, that's how life works. It's like, what is
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: your hundred feet right now? So the hundred feet right now?
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: Maybe okay, man, I need to go finish this accounting
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: class or this design course. You'll go kill it, and
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: then then the next hundred feet, you know what I mean.
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: So when then you'll be you'll be surprised how far
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: you've It's almost like when you keep your head down
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: and you lock in. When you look up, you're surprised
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: as far you went because you've been so you know
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: what I mean when you like, I made that much headway?
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: But harn I feed at the time. Are you avid reader?
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: Oh my god? If man, you have, reading is the
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: most important thing to me because it allows you. Reading
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: is almost like having this like two months, like dinner
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: with one of the most brilliant minds in the world.
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: Can you imagine you read man? You gotta If you don't,
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: you you got to read. You have to read, man,
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: because it just changes how you read the world. You know. Yeah,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: so much, so much. Listen to podcasts, love podcasts, audio books,
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: you know, And that's why I go back to a
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: lot of people. You know, we have so much access
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: to information that if you're not getting it done, you
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: just don't want to. Yeah, and you can't and you
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: can't teach one to and you can't teach one to
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: like it's man Like, we've seen some crazy things in
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: that generation. Man, We've seen some crazy We've seen people
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: transfer Like, you can do anything if you just want to,
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: and you really if you put that work in, you know.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: So I've never someone who's hard working, who's extremely disciplined
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: and and works at their craft, you know, diligently daying
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: and day out, like complain of bad luck. You know,
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: I've never seen it. You're gonna get somewhere worth going,
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: you know, before we get out of here, give everybody
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: listening one book recommendation and one podcast recommendation. Definitely, definitely
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: definitely this podcast, um, you know, but they're already here
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: they're already here. I know the book that changed my
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: life is Thinking Grow Rich. But Napoleon Hill. I think
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: if you haven't read it, you gotta read it. Think
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. It's like, man, it
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: just changes your mindset. It just really really really really
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: changes your mindset. Um. And uh in a podcast that
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: I really love that I listened to all the times. Uh.
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: I like Tim Ferris podcast because seeing the views world
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: class leaders and and he dissects like their and their
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: qualities on how they got what they got, you know,
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: and he breaks down he breaks it down. And I
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: think for people that want to just learn about all
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: types of different fasts, that's are really really good one. Um, yeah,
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: that's what amazing. Write it down. Yeah, son, this is
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: crazy to Thanks for having me, you know what I mean. Um,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: you know, I gotta say this, you know before I go. Um.
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: You know, humility should be um a part of um
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: of any person, especially when the successes of your life
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: is because of the sacrifices of your friends. Right. And
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: so as a man, I'm a I'm a African from Uganda,
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: financial manager. This is crazy, right, what I've become is
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: because you you guys believed in me when it when
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: it was just like it doesn't make sense, you know
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: what I mean to put your entire life into this
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: young man's hands a years old, right, So to me,
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: I just want to thank you and thank all my
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: other my other clients to who have really really gave
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: me a chance to to to to prove them right
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: right and so, um, I'm honored to be in your podcast.
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: I'm honored to be in your life, um, and I'm
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: honored that i I've served you well you know, so
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: thanks for having me for sure. Thank you, humble, Thank
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: you for existing. Oh man, I'm grateful to God for you.
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: I'm glad he made you. I'm honored to know you
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: and very grateful that he made you. So. I love you.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: I love you more, I love you more. Peace, peace, big.
