- 0:25Speaker 3: All right, welcoming back to an audition of the Bets
- 0:28Speaker 3: Company podcast. Of course I'm one of the hosts, Jameson Wells,
- 0:31Speaker 3: and of course I'm joined by Louise. Louise spend a
- 0:35Speaker 3: couple of weeks. What's going on? What's going on?
- 0:38Speaker 2: Well, a lot has been happening in the boxing world.
- 0:41Speaker 2: But yeah, I'm really happy to be back on the mic.
- 0:43Speaker 2: A little bummed out that Spooky season is over now
- 0:45Speaker 2: we're in Thanksgiving season. But that's fine. I'm gonna keep
- 0:48Speaker 2: the horror movies going all year long. And now I'm
- 0:51Speaker 2: gonna prep to stuff my fat face with a bunch
- 0:54Speaker 2: of turkey and mashed potatoes and everything.
- 0:56Speaker 3: So fair enough, fair enough.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, No, it's not that you know what. I
- 0:59Speaker 2: don't like Ristmas. Honestly, I like Halloween, Thanksgiving air, but
- 1:04Speaker 2: the Christmas music. I'm just sick of it. It's the
- 1:06Speaker 2: same damn songs and I kind of hate it. So
- 1:09Speaker 2: I've grown to hate it so much. I don't know
- 1:10Speaker 2: about you, Ah, it is what it is.
- 1:14Speaker 3: I don't take much to it. Why, I don't even
- 1:16Speaker 3: be thinking about it. It comes and goes, so I
- 1:19Speaker 3: don't pay no mind too. I was, you know, but
- 1:21Speaker 3: the holidays, it's one of those things where it comes,
- 1:24Speaker 3: it goes, and we just keep keeping moving.
- 1:27Speaker 2: That's fair. That's fair. I mean it's easier for us
- 1:28Speaker 2: because we don't have kids, so we don't have to
- 1:30Speaker 2: worry about all right, So let's get into the news man,
- 1:34Speaker 2: let's talk about what's been going on. It's our sip
- 1:37Speaker 2: recurring segment the Boxing Gazette, the finest source in boxing news,
- 1:41Speaker 2: brought to you, as always by our sponsored Delightful Smoke
- 1:44Speaker 2: Shop here in Tucson. Thanks to them for sponsoring the segment.
- 1:49Speaker 2: So yeah, the biggest thing that we got to talk
- 1:50Speaker 2: about is actually, let me start here. We got to
- 1:53Speaker 2: do a quick promo because last week, as you know,
- 1:57Speaker 2: you weren't able to participate, but the show was invited
- 2:00Speaker 2: to the Tucson Celtic Festival to do a remote episode.
- 2:03Speaker 2: So our producer Jabrian Davis and I we went out
- 2:06Speaker 2: there to the fest were recorded actually a fifteen minute
- 2:08Speaker 2: mini episode that's available on YouTube right now. And it
- 2:11Speaker 2: was a hell a lot of fun. We had a
- 2:12Speaker 2: good time, okay, so I will give y'all it was great.
- 2:17Speaker 2: So the fest was you know Scottish Scottish heritage fest.
- 2:22Speaker 2: You know, it had some people throwing logs and like
- 2:25Speaker 2: hay bails. There was like food, there was drinks, so
- 2:29Speaker 2: you know, as music, it was really good people playing there,
- 2:32Speaker 2: like playing in a band with like guitars and drums
- 2:35Speaker 2: and also bagpipes you know, mixed into the to the
- 2:39Speaker 2: style of music. So it was a lot of fun.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Okay, okay, cool, cool, good to hear.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Let's let's check out this quick little reel for for
- 2:47Speaker 2: everybodies to give a preview of the of that episode.
- 2:50Speaker 2: The show invited us to do a special remote episode
- 2:52Speaker 2: at the Tucson Celtic Festival. Hege Borie Davis here, a
- 3:03Speaker 2: producer for the Mixed Company podcast. His reason the show exists.
- 3:06Speaker 2: So we're gonna ask him a little bit about his
- 3:08Speaker 2: history with boxing and where his love of it came from.
- 3:10Speaker 3: And then as the fight's wrapping up, I'm like, hey,
- 3:14Speaker 3: it's probably time to go. And everybody made it home safe,
- 3:17Speaker 3: feel safe?
- 3:17Speaker 2: Do that here?
- 3:18Speaker 1: That's not always the case, hints the Mixed Company podcast.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Hey, apologies, I said Scott a heritage. I meant Celtic
- 3:28Speaker 2: heritage to encompass you know, a lot of that region.
- 3:31Speaker 2: But but yeah, you know, we have all these episodes
- 3:34Speaker 2: are up on YouTube. We have a playlist under the
- 3:36Speaker 2: nineteen Media group channel. Uh and that Celtic Festival video
- 3:42Speaker 2: is exclusively on YouTube, so please go check that out.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I edited the video myself, interviewed our producer about his
- 3:49Speaker 2: you know, not just where his love of boxing came from,
- 3:51Speaker 2: but how the show started, where the idea came from.
- 3:53Speaker 2: So it was it was a good time, cool, cool,
- 3:57Speaker 2: good here, good here.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:00Speaker 2: So off, let's jump into the official boxing news. So,
- 4:04Speaker 2: the biggest thing that happened very recently is that the
- 4:08Speaker 2: Paul versus Tank Davis fight was officially canceled due to
- 4:13Speaker 2: Tank Davis getting into more legal trouble after he allegedly
- 4:16Speaker 2: put his hands on another woman, choked the woman allegedly
- 4:20Speaker 2: in a strip club, and he has a restraining order
- 4:23Speaker 2: filed against them, and there is a civil lawsuit. No
- 4:26Speaker 2: criminal charges, it appears, but he is being sued in
- 4:30Speaker 2: the civil court. And that was enough for you know,
- 4:33Speaker 2: the Paul team, the MVP team to call the entire
- 4:36Speaker 2: fight off. You know, this man just cannot stop putting
- 4:39Speaker 2: his hands on women. It's just it's it's a sickness
- 4:41Speaker 2: that seems like. And you know, I wasn't excited about this,
- 4:46Speaker 2: this Paul fight anyway, but I think this ses to show.
- 4:49Speaker 2: We talked in a previous episode about Tank Davis's legacy
- 4:53Speaker 2: and this is just gonna this is just gonna sour
- 4:57Speaker 2: the end of his career even more. So, what are
- 4:59Speaker 2: your thoughts on all this?
- 5:01Speaker 3: So I don't even know, be honest with you, what
- 5:04Speaker 3: his career is anymore. I don't because yeah, he was
- 5:07Speaker 3: a great boxer and he knocked guys out. But it's
- 5:12Speaker 3: too much that's happened outside the ring that is now
- 5:17Speaker 3: covering up for what he did in the ring. And
- 5:19Speaker 3: it's very unfortunate. But it's to the point now where
- 5:23Speaker 3: it's one thing to have one bad situation. Things happen anyone.
- 5:26Speaker 3: We are not perfect people. None of us are perfect.
- 5:28Speaker 3: We're all human. We all make mistakes. However, the same
- 5:32Speaker 3: mistake can't happen like five times with the same exact situation.
- 5:35Speaker 3: It can't. Why I don't, I'm not a big fan
- 5:39Speaker 3: of people leading women like that's not cool, especially when
- 5:42Speaker 3: you have his skill set and his profession that you
- 5:46Speaker 3: know that should not be happening. So to be honest
- 5:49Speaker 3: with you, man, I'm cool on him if they these
- 5:54Speaker 3: things just can't keep happening. It can't keep over and
- 5:58Speaker 3: over and over again. It can't be the same thing
- 6:01Speaker 3: every time when something happens you're accused of hitting someone.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Come on, man, like what we doing? It keeps on happening,
- 6:09Speaker 3: It keeps on happening, and we're not It's been a
- 6:13Speaker 3: while since we talk about boxing with him, that real boxing.
- 6:17Speaker 3: It's been too long since we focus on the actual
- 6:21Speaker 3: sport itself, not some gimmick, not money, but actual boxing.
- 6:26Speaker 3: The last time he was in a ring, he got
- 6:28Speaker 3: out box for twelve whole rounds, and no one's talking
- 6:31Speaker 3: about that. And now we don't know when he's gonna
- 6:34Speaker 3: fight again, or if he ever does.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, and I'll even I'll make this very clear.
- 6:40Speaker 2: When it comes to boxers getting in trouble. You know,
- 6:43Speaker 2: if a boxer's cut with drugs or something like that, Man,
- 6:46Speaker 2: I don't give a shit. I do not care. Honestly,
- 6:49Speaker 2: that's not a scandal. That's not like an issue. But
- 6:52Speaker 2: this is different. You know, putting your hands on somebody,
- 6:54Speaker 2: on a woman or anybody, that's a big, big deal.
- 6:57Speaker 2: And yeah, that's just not not okay. Period. But you know,
- 7:01Speaker 2: I'm the guy who's you know, if the if a
- 7:03Speaker 2: boxer is like drunk at a strip club or whatever,
- 7:06Speaker 2: you know, obviously you shouldn't be doing that because you
- 7:08Speaker 2: should be in the gym, you should be focused, ready
- 7:09Speaker 2: for fighting. But at the end of the day, you know,
- 7:11Speaker 2: if they get back into into the gym and they're
- 7:15Speaker 2: ready for fight night, I do not care. That does.
- 7:18Speaker 2: None of that matters to me. But this actual, you know,
- 7:22Speaker 2: assault against women, like that's that's just too too much
- 7:26Speaker 2: to put up with. And yeah, you know, like it's
- 7:29Speaker 2: it's a very good point that this guy's been in
- 7:31Speaker 2: the news for other bullshit that's not you know, Wow,
- 7:33Speaker 2: that fight he had was great or you know whatever. Uh,
- 7:37Speaker 2: the last fight was was in March of this year.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I just looked it up. The Lamont Roach fight was
- 7:40Speaker 2: March of this year, and everything since has just.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Been just bullshit. That's the issue. And the thing is,
- 7:49Speaker 3: you keep getting accused of the same crime. You keep
- 7:53Speaker 3: getting accused of the same thing. Now, this is a
- 7:55Speaker 3: civil suit happening a shrimp club. All bets are off
- 7:59Speaker 3: on what actually happened in there because he says, she say,
- 8:03Speaker 3: it's a strip club. Who knows. However, with his reputation,
- 8:07Speaker 3: you can't keep on getting accused of this. It cannot
- 8:11Speaker 3: happen now. If it happened a strip club, there's a
- 8:13Speaker 3: pretty good chance that there's footage of this. If there
- 8:18Speaker 3: is footage of this, if he did indeed hit a
- 8:20Speaker 3: woman out of the blue for no reason, I don't
- 8:24Speaker 3: see him fighting again. I don't.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Yeah, And even though I said I don't, never really
- 8:29Speaker 2: cared about the pull fight anyway, I think a good
- 8:32Speaker 2: there has to be consequences to this behavior and him
- 8:34Speaker 2: losing out on this, but definitely was gonna be a back.
- 8:36Speaker 2: It's gonna be a big back him losing on on that,
- 8:38Speaker 2: you know what.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Good.
- 8:41Speaker 2: I don't feel bad for the guy. I don't feel
- 8:43Speaker 2: bad for the well. Definitely don't care about losing this
- 8:46Speaker 2: fight at all. But yeah, I mean it's when we
- 8:51Speaker 2: talked about text legacy, I said, you know, people have
- 8:55Speaker 2: a lot of recent advice, they tend to kind of
- 8:56Speaker 2: remember what happens at the tail end more so not
- 8:59Speaker 2: to say that well, for example, you know, it's a
- 9:02Speaker 2: very different situation. You know, Manupeca had never got in
- 9:05Speaker 2: trouble like this, but he had a great career, had
- 9:08Speaker 2: a few losses, and we always talk about the knockout
- 9:12Speaker 2: where he got knocked out by juanmel Marquez, because I
- 9:14Speaker 2: was near the end of his career. That's just kind
- 9:16Speaker 2: of is always there, like following him around. But so
- 9:21Speaker 2: that's kind of just how people work. I think how
- 9:23Speaker 2: people's brains work, they remember the most recent thing for
- 9:26Speaker 2: a lot of fighters, for a lot of celebrities, to whatever.
- 9:28Speaker 2: You know, it's somebody, some musician has a great career
- 9:31Speaker 2: and they come out with a crappy album and then
- 9:33Speaker 2: people just don't stop talking about how that last album
- 9:35Speaker 2: was shitty forever, you know. So I think this is
- 9:39Speaker 2: definitely just adding more just making tanks. Legacy seems shittier
- 9:48Speaker 2: and shittier with more things that happened like this, him
- 9:50Speaker 2: taking the pul fight and not taking the Lamont Roach
- 9:53Speaker 2: rematch was was part of a part of the problem
- 9:57Speaker 2: for him. But man, it's a I think says he's
- 10:00Speaker 2: gonna be remembered as that guy who oh yeah, he
- 10:02Speaker 2: was pretty good, I guess, but then you know, he
- 10:04Speaker 2: got into some ship and did some stupid crap and
- 10:06Speaker 2: then he just kind of fizzled out. And I don't know,
- 10:09Speaker 2: they will be talking about Tank Davis in like five years.
- 10:12Speaker 3: We will because now a whole lot of guys that
- 10:14Speaker 3: can do pay per views technically, so whenever your guy
- 10:17Speaker 3: that can do pay per view and you're gone, you're
- 10:19Speaker 3: you will be missed some wayhape or form. This show
- 10:22Speaker 3: I have with it is we never saw a Tank
- 10:25Speaker 3: in his prime. We never seen him take an elevation
- 10:28Speaker 3: to take the next step as a boxer. You know,
- 10:33Speaker 3: we never saw, oh he's up and the level he
- 10:36Speaker 3: took us. We never seen that, like we see the
- 10:38Speaker 3: Terrence Crawford of his game. We never saw, oh he's
- 10:41Speaker 3: taking it. We never got to see that, and it's
- 10:43Speaker 3: unfortunate because he had that potential. Unfortunately it's long gone
- 10:47Speaker 3: and it's it's not happening.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Yeah, So all right, Peter, that fight people or Jake
- 10:53Speaker 2: Paul's already talking about finding a new opponent, and I
- 10:56Speaker 2: would just kind of like, so, yeah, I'd like to
- 11:01Speaker 2: yeah whatever. There's talks of him potentially fighting friends in
- 11:03Speaker 2: the GNU, and I'm like, you know what, immediately said
- 11:07Speaker 2: nay okay, okay, I didn't see that. Yeat Negata deserves
- 11:11Speaker 2: way better because he won that type of furiy fight.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Dam did.
- 11:15Speaker 2: All right, Another topic this is I guess it's the
- 11:19Speaker 2: show to air some grievances with the people that we
- 11:21Speaker 2: keep crapping on because Top Rank, oh, Top Rank. Last
- 11:24Speaker 2: week there was a fight between Michayla Mayor and Canadian
- 11:27Speaker 2: boxer Mary Spencer that I was excited to watch. I
- 11:31Speaker 2: went on Instagram. They even gave you a list of
- 11:32Speaker 2: how to watch. Top Rank still doesn't have a tv
- 11:35Speaker 2: TV deal, but they're figuring it out there. They had
- 11:38Speaker 2: a little list of where you can watch. It was
- 11:40Speaker 2: t B, Pluto TV, the Roku app and it was free.
- 11:44Speaker 2: I was like, that's cool, okay, you know what, Tom Brank,
- 11:46Speaker 2: I appreciate that, you know, yea, yeah, maybe maybe somebody
- 11:50Speaker 2: all get calls from your grandparents on how to the
- 11:53Speaker 2: computer question on how to watch this? What is what
- 11:55Speaker 2: is to be TV. But you know, every smart TV
- 11:58Speaker 2: has TV and Pluto and it's it's easy, got commercials.
- 12:01Speaker 2: But then it was Friday. I was like waiting for
- 12:04Speaker 2: you know, kind of figuring out what time it's gonna
- 12:06Speaker 2: be where I was gonna be out for Halloween. Turns
- 12:08Speaker 2: out the fight was actually the night before, on Thursday,
- 12:11Speaker 2: And turns out it was at eight pm Eastern.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Oh wow, I mean.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Yeah that I would have watched at five pm, Like,
- 12:18Speaker 2: who the hell's gonna watch that top Rank? Like, I'm sorry,
- 12:20Speaker 2: that's not that's not what boxing is. Yeah, like what
- 12:24Speaker 2: I can't remember the last time that you know, a
- 12:28Speaker 2: boxing match was before seven, you know, something like that.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:34Speaker 2: The worst part of it too is I just yes,
- 12:37Speaker 2: it was on me because I just kind of assumed
- 12:38Speaker 2: it would be on Friday. But also it's stupid Instagram's algorithm.
- 12:42Speaker 2: They're like showing you things from two days before and
- 12:44Speaker 2: they're like tomorrow it's the don't miss the Cala Mayor
- 12:49Speaker 2: on top Rank and I'm like, yeah, yeah, I know,
- 12:50Speaker 2: I know tomorrow because it's gonna be Friday, you know
- 12:53Speaker 2: what I mean. It just gets all confused. So but yeah,
- 12:57Speaker 2: I mean boxing on Thursday's little you know, a little
- 13:01Speaker 2: northodox anyway, because it's a Friday Saturday night'sport. But my
- 13:04Speaker 2: birthday last year, there was a toughy malopus fight on
- 13:06Speaker 2: Thursday night. On my actual birthday, went out to the
- 13:10Speaker 2: Silver Room in Midtown, cool little dive bar, and I
- 13:13Speaker 2: was there kind of just like waiting, like, all right,
- 13:15Speaker 2: come on, Teo, it's gonna get like ten pm or
- 13:18Speaker 2: any coming out, because again, that's when you expect the
- 13:21Speaker 2: boxing match to be, right, m h, why the hell
- 13:24Speaker 2: am I ever gonna be ready? Like for me as
- 13:27Speaker 2: a boxing fan, I'm not gonna be like, oh, it's
- 13:30Speaker 2: five pm, I gotta turn on this fight. I want
- 13:31Speaker 2: to watch this main event. You know what I'm saying, right, So,
- 13:34Speaker 2: top rank you just continue to disappoint me and I.
- 13:39Speaker 2: If you want to be on TV and show all
- 13:41Speaker 2: your fights, they're cool, like that's awesome. I even saw
- 13:43Speaker 2: people on Instagram saying, hey, free fights, that's cool. Everybody's
- 13:46Speaker 2: got asces to as long as they have a smart TV.
- 13:49Speaker 2: But it's this whole Thursday night at five pm. Shit,
- 13:52Speaker 2: I just I don't know. I don't know what they're thinking.
- 13:54Speaker 2: So they take advantage of us. They take our.
- 13:58Speaker 3: They take our watchability for granted, I don't the powers
- 14:04Speaker 3: that we need to get this figured out. I don't
- 14:06Speaker 3: have nothing against two B people make money on there.
- 14:08Speaker 3: I don't nothing against them, but boxing deserves better. Boxings
- 14:12Speaker 3: are is way better than that. However, when you don't
- 14:15Speaker 3: have a main contract, when things are unsettling, when you're
- 14:18Speaker 3: in business with different entities and different people, these are
- 14:21Speaker 3: things that can happen unfortunately. So so here we are.
- 14:25Speaker 3: You know, we're dealing with all these outside entities and
- 14:28Speaker 3: all these people who don't have boxes best interests at heart.
- 14:30Speaker 3: They're just trying to make the most money as possible.
- 14:33Speaker 3: This is what you get why we're used to the
- 14:36Speaker 3: HBO showtime ESPNS going forward, I have no idea what
- 14:40Speaker 3: to expect, to be honest with you, nut right.
- 14:43Speaker 2: For me, it's just a consistency.
- 14:45Speaker 1: You know.
- 14:45Speaker 2: If you tell me that every top rank fight for
- 14:47Speaker 2: the next whatever next year is going to be on
- 14:49Speaker 2: two b okay, cool, and I know then where I'm
- 14:52Speaker 2: gonna be on fight night.
- 14:53Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 14:54Speaker 2: But it's this like, you know, same thing too well,
- 14:57Speaker 2: consistency with with times of the main event. You know,
- 15:02Speaker 2: here's the thing. At first, I was like, wait a second,
- 15:04Speaker 2: is this time stupid because it's like overseas or something. No,
- 15:07Speaker 2: it was in Canada, like it was in Montreal, so
- 15:09Speaker 2: it's like it's it's not a matter of you know,
- 15:12Speaker 2: international time zone. So I was I was bummed out
- 15:14Speaker 2: about it because I was actually very interested in watching
- 15:16Speaker 2: the fight. You know, we're big supporters of women's boxing here,
- 15:21Speaker 2: but you can't, yeah, you can't expect even like really
- 15:25Speaker 2: hardcore boxing fans to be ready at five pm on
- 15:28Speaker 2: a Thursday for a main event that's just not yet.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Like it's just exactly so people are in traffic getting
- 15:37Speaker 2: home from work, get off time, they're stuck in traffic,
- 15:40Speaker 2: and by the time they get home, it's like the
- 15:42Speaker 2: last two rounds already, especially with the women's fight, because
- 15:44Speaker 2: it's only ten rounds, like they're gonna miss that. So
- 15:47Speaker 2: now eight pm Eastern time, Okay, I'll give that a
- 15:50Speaker 2: little bit of more leeway. But this was before the
- 15:54Speaker 2: times changed. Me in Arizona. Five pm is when that
- 15:57Speaker 2: when that one.
- 15:58Speaker 3: That's not gonna work. That don't work.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Yeah, So I know you mentioned the Canelo crop for
- 16:03Speaker 2: fight was a little too late, because what did that
- 16:04Speaker 2: started the East coast, was it like close to one?
- 16:06Speaker 3: I think it'll started at one am Easter Eastern, right
- 16:09Speaker 3: around one. That's I mean ten here. A fight starting
- 16:12Speaker 3: at ten our time was rough for what we like
- 16:14Speaker 3: where you used to we've seen fight stars early as
- 16:17Speaker 3: eight eight pm, seven thirties eight pm, why yeah, it was.
- 16:22Speaker 3: It was ridiculous. But again, when you got multiple entity
- 16:24Speaker 3: during the show, you got multiple agendas going on, this
- 16:27Speaker 3: is what takes.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Place right well, in terms of a fight being too late,
- 16:33Speaker 2: I think because boxing has always been a late night thing.
- 16:37Speaker 2: You know, in my mind, I'm gonna say that as
- 16:39Speaker 2: long as that first spell rings no later than midnight,
- 16:43Speaker 2: that's the cool.
- 16:44Speaker 3: I'm cool with that on a Saturday.
- 16:47Speaker 2: On a Saturday, yes, yeah, I guess that a Saturday. Yeah,
- 16:52Speaker 2: I mean that for me. It's also like, let's think
- 16:54Speaker 2: about watch your boxing staying up late as a kid
- 16:57Speaker 2: in the summers on weekends sometimes it was just channel
- 17:00Speaker 2: surf and the would be random boxing matches in the
- 17:02Speaker 2: middle of the night, like the replaying matches at like
- 17:05Speaker 2: one two that so at the end, bossing has always
- 17:08Speaker 2: been middle of the night thing. So yeah, as long
- 17:10Speaker 2: as that bell rings twelve a m. First Bell fight
- 17:15Speaker 2: starts in less than an hour. I'll let that slide.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Fair enough, fair enough, fair enough.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Moving on, Speaking of Tank Davis, actually two of his
- 17:24Speaker 2: former opponent's opponents will be fighting each other December sixth,
- 17:28Speaker 2: Lamont Roach versus Pitbull Cruise. So first things I want
- 17:33Speaker 2: to say about this is I'm glad Lamont Rose just
- 17:35Speaker 2: kind of moved on and stop kind of hanging around
- 17:38Speaker 2: waiting for that rematch that wasn't gonna happen. I still
- 17:40Speaker 2: think Tank Davis was too scared to rematch Roach, and
- 17:43Speaker 2: that's gonna stand by that. But this is actually exciting.
- 17:47Speaker 2: You know, both guys went the distance with Tank Pitbull Cruise. Yes,
- 17:50Speaker 2: they both lost the fight, but Pitbull Cruise is excellent
- 17:54Speaker 2: aggressive fighter. You know, he's He's got that name for
- 17:56Speaker 2: a reason. And it'd be really interesting to watch these
- 17:59Speaker 2: two guys with those skins. And we've said before people
- 18:03Speaker 2: who lose to Tank seem to learn from that loss,
- 18:06Speaker 2: you know, Roly Romero uh lost a Tank and then
- 18:10Speaker 2: add an excellent upset against Ryan Garcia. So I think
- 18:14Speaker 2: we're gonna see these two. I'm excited about this fight.
- 18:16Speaker 2: These two guys kind of Lamont Roach has heat on
- 18:21Speaker 2: his name that he really needed to use this year.
- 18:24Speaker 2: You know, the best thing to do was running back
- 18:26Speaker 2: against Tank. But if that wasn't gonna happen, I think
- 18:28Speaker 2: it's a good matchup. And I don't know, I mean, uh,
- 18:31Speaker 2: do we think that Lamont Roach is going to be
- 18:33Speaker 2: a name to to keep an eye on? While saying,
- 18:37Speaker 2: while while being very you know, transparent about the fact
- 18:40Speaker 2: that we were both like, man, fuck this fight. Nobody
- 18:43Speaker 2: cares about Tank versus Roach before the thing.
- 18:46Speaker 3: That's how it starts, right like at first, like it's
- 18:49Speaker 3: just another guy, and then you're like, oh, now what
- 18:51Speaker 3: Roach is going to see If he's gotten better, if
- 18:54Speaker 3: he's taking everything seriously, if he's ready to the next step,
- 18:58Speaker 3: or he was excited to fight Tank. He's from DC
- 19:01Speaker 3: thanks from Baltimore's huge rivalry, et cetera, et cetera. So
- 19:04Speaker 3: we're just gonna see him in there with a different fighter,
- 19:07Speaker 3: what the mindset is, whatever, what's going on. I'm very
- 19:10Speaker 3: curious to see the level of preparation and whereas mental
- 19:12Speaker 3: is at for the upcoming fight. Because he wins this
- 19:15Speaker 3: fight after the last showing, then he gets other big fights.
- 19:19Speaker 3: If he loses this fight, it's over. He's not getting
- 19:22Speaker 3: another look. And that's just how it goes.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I've always thought that's kind of unfair. I mean,
- 19:27Speaker 2: you know, you can't. I think we tend to, not
- 19:29Speaker 2: we necessarily, but just the boxing world just tends to
- 19:32Speaker 2: write dudes off after you know, a couple of losses.
- 19:34Speaker 3: Like, but it's a cold game, man, like think of it.
- 19:39Speaker 3: It's it's it's a commission based job, if that makes sense.
- 19:44Speaker 3: If you do well, you get paid or a word
- 19:46Speaker 3: to well, if you don't, you lose, and you basically
- 19:49Speaker 3: get fired one way, shape or form.
- 19:52Speaker 2: That's true. I mean, I uh, I think I think
- 19:56Speaker 2: we got to give our fighters a little bit more grace.
- 19:58Speaker 2: You know, yes, you can, you can underperform, but man,
- 20:01Speaker 2: it's still you got to understand like how much uh
- 20:04Speaker 2: effort and time and and and how honestly dangerous it
- 20:08Speaker 2: is that they're getting in there. And I think we
- 20:10Speaker 2: kind of just kind of disregard folks too quickly, if
- 20:14Speaker 2: I'll put it that.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Way, we do. You're right, However, the way the game go,
- 20:19Speaker 3: I mean, we don't hear from them again. They don't
- 20:21Speaker 3: get any big fights. Once you get a chance, you
- 20:24Speaker 3: better take advantage of it, because like everything else, everything
- 20:26Speaker 3: moves fast. So if you're not winning, people aren't going
- 20:29Speaker 3: to contract someone that's not winning. It just doesn't work
- 20:32Speaker 3: that way. Boxers, like we talked about Danny last last show,
- 20:37Speaker 3: Danny Garcia is a product example of that. He got
- 20:39Speaker 3: his one shot, take advantage of it, became a star boxer,
- 20:42Speaker 3: made a lot of money on some belts. I don't
- 20:44Speaker 3: think it's a Hall of Famer, but he's that hell
- 20:45Speaker 3: of their career. Those are when you dropped two, you
- 20:49Speaker 3: better strike and you better win. Now, Roach got screwed
- 20:51Speaker 3: because Roach probably should have won the fighters, Tam probably
- 20:54Speaker 3: should have won. But you got a lot of eyes
- 20:57Speaker 3: on you.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Now.
- 20:57Speaker 3: People know who you are, you know what you're capable of.
- 20:59Speaker 3: So fight We expect just to give a performance, if
- 21:02Speaker 3: not better.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think the biggest issue, like I said,
- 21:06Speaker 2: the biggest handicap that he had is that when you
- 21:09Speaker 2: look like you should have won to fight when you
- 21:12Speaker 2: had a good performance, Uh, you run it back. That's
- 21:16Speaker 2: just how that shit goes. You run it back and
- 21:19Speaker 2: then you show whether that was a fluke or if
- 21:21Speaker 2: you had the skills. You definitely had the skills, yet
- 21:24Speaker 2: you just come out better the the on the other
- 21:26Speaker 2: side of it. I'm excited about Roach versus Pippoll Cruise,
- 21:30Speaker 2: but I don't think that's what he should have used
- 21:32Speaker 2: his improved skills to do. You know, you gotta you
- 21:34Speaker 2: gotta show. You gotta show the people who won, you know,
- 21:40Speaker 2: thought that you should have won, that they were right
- 21:41Speaker 2: about you, but also the people that said, no, screw
- 21:43Speaker 2: your Roach, full of shit, you know, blah blah blah.
- 21:45Speaker 2: You know, you gotta shut those haters up too, you
- 21:47Speaker 2: know what I mean. That's kind of the that's kind
- 21:49Speaker 2: of the the arc of of this type of fight
- 21:51Speaker 2: that we saw. So uh, I have a little bub
- 21:53Speaker 2: them that that we never got to see that rematch.
- 21:56Speaker 2: But I'm also I'm happy for Roach that he is
- 21:59Speaker 2: using the heat on his name to do something else
- 22:01Speaker 2: and something exciting, you know. And Piples don't joke that
- 22:04Speaker 2: man is is. I've seen him fight several times now
- 22:07Speaker 2: that that's he's a challenge no matter what.
- 22:09Speaker 3: So no, he's legit. He's definitely legit for sure. And
- 22:15Speaker 3: he normally is a guy that you're gonna have an
- 22:18Speaker 3: action fight. It's not just a guy that's gonna just
- 22:20Speaker 3: there to He's gonna be there to force action and
- 22:24Speaker 3: force you to to fight him. So that should be
- 22:26Speaker 3: a good match Like looking at it, it's a pretty
- 22:28Speaker 3: good matchup. Whoever wins that probably gets a pretty good
- 22:32Speaker 3: fight somewhere in twenty six, probably for a belt.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Yeah no, that's a really good point. Pippule is not
- 22:39Speaker 2: a boring fighter, so uh and I definitely think Roach
- 22:42Speaker 2: is gonna end there expecting that. I think it's another
- 22:45Speaker 2: another classic mixed company fight because pit Bull is a
- 22:49Speaker 2: Mexican guy, Roach black man.
- 22:51Speaker 3: But it's a lower profile one though, this is not
- 22:53Speaker 3: sure so the emotions all right, So the mixed company,
- 22:56Speaker 3: it's mainly for the big fights. It's mainly for the
- 22:59Speaker 3: big fight. So when you think of all the Dale
- 23:02Speaker 3: Hoya versus Pronell and Floyd versus de la Joya and
- 23:06Speaker 3: Floydver's Canelo, all those those are a big fucking a
- 23:10Speaker 3: lot of motion of those. There's a lot marketing, it's
- 23:13Speaker 3: a lot going on twenty four to seven. All access,
- 23:16Speaker 3: et cetera, et cetera. Mixed company don't apply to this fight.
- 23:20Speaker 3: It don't really apply, all right, you can, but the
- 23:23Speaker 3: emotions ain't there, Like boy was a scumbag. However, we
- 23:28Speaker 3: love that scumbag because he represented black people in the
- 23:30Speaker 3: ring in a weird way. That's just what it was like,
- 23:34Speaker 3: That's how how you want to describe it. That's what
- 23:36Speaker 3: it was. So but yeah, this fight is like it's
- 23:40Speaker 3: mixed company, but it's kind of not.
- 23:42Speaker 2: If that makes sense, makes sense, I understand what you're saying.
- 23:47Speaker 2: I will say also not but and also, uh, you know,
- 23:51Speaker 2: I live in Tucson, so if I were to you know,
- 23:54Speaker 2: be uh, you know where I go to see fights,
- 23:57Speaker 2: it's the neighborhood. It's straight up a Mexican firstplot. So yeah, yeah,
- 24:00Speaker 2: So if I was a fan of Lamont Roach and
- 24:02Speaker 2: wanted him to win this fight, I'm not really going
- 24:04Speaker 2: either way. I just want to see a great match.
- 24:05Speaker 2: But if I was, you know, going in there rooting
- 24:07Speaker 2: for a little mot Roach, I would maybe want to
- 24:09Speaker 2: not be that excited about it, kind of like when
- 24:11Speaker 2: I saw Schaquarue Stevenson versus Oscar Bodez there, I was
- 24:14Speaker 2: all in for Shakur, but I was, you know, just
- 24:17Speaker 2: kind of I didn't walk up with my SA Kerstin's
- 24:19Speaker 2: T shirt showing it off or anything like that, so yeah,
- 24:23Speaker 2: you know, it's still a consideration, especially in areas of
- 24:27Speaker 2: Tucson that are not just very heavily Vexican Hispanic brown,
- 24:32Speaker 2: but also a little little stabby, you know, a little
- 24:34Speaker 2: step which that neighborhood is. So yes, you're one hundred
- 24:39Speaker 2: percent right, it's not the same, but there's still some
- 24:41Speaker 2: consideration there, at least for me being in in Arizona
- 24:44Speaker 2: where there's shilettos Mexicans. But but yeah, that'll be December sixth.
- 24:50Speaker 2: I'm stoked actually, And and another thing too, I kind
- 24:53Speaker 2: of hate not knowing things like That's kind of also
- 24:56Speaker 2: why I just wanted I just kind of focus on
- 24:59Speaker 2: fights when they're announced and they have the date, this
- 25:00Speaker 2: back and forth like who are you going to fight?
- 25:02Speaker 2: Who's who's going to be next, blah blah blah, And
- 25:04Speaker 2: never really liked it, but I always kind of just
- 25:07Speaker 2: wanted to know what lamonk Roach was gonna do with
- 25:09Speaker 2: his catching. So this is kind of like, oh, finally,
- 25:12Speaker 2: thank god, we get to see the man back, and
- 25:15Speaker 2: not what I wanted to see, but you know, I'm
- 25:17Speaker 2: I'm happy for him that he came out on top
- 25:20Speaker 2: after this whole after this year's debacle. So hey, you know,
- 25:24Speaker 2: good year for lamont Roche, no matter.
- 25:25Speaker 3: What, most definitely, most definitely.
- 25:29Speaker 2: All right, here's a big one. We got to get
- 25:31Speaker 2: into tucks so called serious talks of many Packy Hill
- 25:36Speaker 2: versus Floyd Mayweather for twenty twenty six. My response is,
- 25:43Speaker 2: and uh yeah, I mean this week is just kind
- 25:45Speaker 2: of like just share our thoughts here and how you
- 25:48Speaker 2: feel about it. I'll let you I'll let you go
- 25:50Speaker 2: first man.
- 25:53Speaker 3: The problem with these fights is they're only relevant because
- 25:55Speaker 3: we don't have enough young guys fighting often. That's theory
- 25:59Speaker 3: that's one man comes up. We wouldn't be focused on
- 26:02Speaker 3: older guys if we had enough younger guys doing what
- 26:04Speaker 3: they're supposed to do. We don't have that, Like we
- 26:07Speaker 3: don't know when Kurstewhinson's like, you know, we don't know
- 26:11Speaker 3: his next situation, you know, like it sucks, but we
- 26:14Speaker 3: don't know, like hey he wins, the next fight's gonna
- 26:17Speaker 3: do this, this and that third They don't know any of that,
- 26:19Speaker 3: Like we don't know like hey, if James Boots does this,
- 26:25Speaker 3: this and this, he's doing that, Like it's just it's
- 26:30Speaker 3: not good, Like our our good fighters are not fighting
- 26:33Speaker 3: other good fighters. It feels like our good fighters are
- 26:35Speaker 3: always finding tune up guys and that's the problem, and
- 26:38Speaker 3: they're making a lot of money doing so, so it
- 26:40Speaker 3: doesn't force to really get matchups that we've been dying
- 26:42Speaker 3: to see. So right now it's going around the circle
- 26:46Speaker 3: of tune up fight for the tune up fight for
- 26:48Speaker 3: the tune up fights, and then when somebody wants to
- 26:50Speaker 3: fight somebody, Oh, well I'm not a side or I
- 26:54Speaker 3: need this, and it's next any of lose interest. So
- 26:57Speaker 3: then this bullshit comes up. It's like oh people, no,
- 27:01Speaker 3: oh a man, and it's like, nah, that's not we
- 27:04Speaker 3: didn't come from that, Like that's the how, That's not
- 27:07Speaker 3: how I supposed to go. It's not and here we are.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I totally agree with all that. And also what
- 27:14Speaker 2: really really bothers me is that Manny Paca came back
- 27:18Speaker 2: and what was it? A legitimate fight for a legitimate
- 27:21Speaker 2: belt that wasn't a showcase, wasn't a money I mean,
- 27:24Speaker 2: sure it was a money grab for him because he
- 27:25Speaker 2: needed the cash, but you know what I mean, it
- 27:27Speaker 2: was against a legitimate fighter for a belt, you know,
- 27:29Speaker 2: And same thing. This goes very I picked this topic
- 27:33Speaker 2: next because it went very well with the lavant roach thing.
- 27:36Speaker 2: You know, I wanted to see once he demonstrated that
- 27:39Speaker 2: he still had it. Sure wasn't prime many, but hey,
- 27:41Speaker 2: who was you know, he looked good. He looked better
- 27:43Speaker 2: than I expected. I will also admit I was on
- 27:46Speaker 2: the record as saying I thought he was gonna be washed.
- 27:49Speaker 2: I thought it was gonna be easy win for Mario Barrios.
- 27:51Speaker 2: You know I was wrong. I'll never I'll never be
- 27:53Speaker 2: afraid to admit that I was wrong. Uh, but with that,
- 27:56Speaker 2: I was excited, like, Okay, my man, what else he got?
- 27:59Speaker 2: What else he got in the chain? What are you
- 28:00Speaker 2: gonna do? And it's just kind of it's just lazy.
- 28:04Speaker 2: You know, it's another Netflix potentially a Netflix event where
- 28:09Speaker 2: you know, Netflix being involved in boxing is potentially a
- 28:13Speaker 2: good thing, but it has to be they have to
- 28:16Speaker 2: be a stepping stone for more fighters as opposed to
- 28:19Speaker 2: just kind of go into the biggest name possible for
- 28:22Speaker 2: the biggest you know, they're all Jake Paul fights are
- 28:24Speaker 2: gonna be on Netflix now it appears, and it's kind
- 28:26Speaker 2: of annoying. You know, they're not really using I don't
- 28:30Speaker 2: know which one is is where the problem is that
- 28:32Speaker 2: Netflix isn't using boxing as like a long term relationship
- 28:37Speaker 2: or boxing doesn't really think of Netflix as a lot. Somebody,
- 28:40Speaker 2: somebody's got cold feet, somebody is a commitment folbe here.
- 28:42Speaker 2: I don't know which one. Maybe it's both of them,
- 28:44Speaker 2: and it's just not exciting. You know, you're you kind
- 28:47Speaker 2: of want the the the the comforting, like like a marriage.
- 28:53Speaker 3: With boxing.
- 28:54Speaker 2: You want to know that you know you got somebody there,
- 28:56Speaker 2: they're gonna be You're gonna be able to see them
- 28:57Speaker 2: on you know when you get off of work, not
- 29:00Speaker 2: worry about you know, somethody that they're gonna leave you
- 29:02Speaker 2: on Red or who they're talking to next, or who
- 29:04Speaker 2: they're gonna be making it. I thought you were hanging
- 29:07Speaker 2: out with me this weekend. Now you're hanging out with
- 29:08Speaker 2: Bucket Twoby. All right, That's kind of how I feel that,
- 29:11Speaker 2: And I thought a Netflix partnership would been a great,
- 29:13Speaker 2: great option, but I'm not so sure anymore.
- 29:16Speaker 3: So. Netflix is in it for the money, Like, let's
- 29:18Speaker 3: call it what it is. They're in it for the
- 29:19Speaker 3: cash or not in it for anything else. They're literally
- 29:22Speaker 3: in this for the cash. They're in it for the
- 29:25Speaker 3: fights that make sense financially, they're going to be there
- 29:27Speaker 3: for I don't see them putting together a Friday Night
- 29:30Speaker 3: card or Saturday Saturday palooza one day at a quarter.
- 29:34Speaker 3: I don't see that could change absolutely, but I don't
- 29:36Speaker 3: they They're in it for the views. That's what they
- 29:39Speaker 3: make the money off of. They get the advertised Netflix
- 29:41Speaker 3: and all of the program that they offer throughout that
- 29:44Speaker 3: whole time block, so I get their process. The Jake
- 29:47Speaker 3: Paul thing is ruin boxing. It's really ruin boxing. For
- 29:50Speaker 3: traditionals like us, it's not real. It's a bunch of bs.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Jake Paul don't care about the support kettle making money,
- 29:57Speaker 3: so when he fights, it brings lit attention to the
- 30:01Speaker 3: sport for all the wrong reasons, and that has messed
- 30:05Speaker 3: up all the other fights that are actually boxing matches
- 30:09Speaker 3: because his numbers and his stats when it comes to
- 30:12Speaker 3: the watchability and the views and the metrics are all intertwined.
- 30:16Speaker 3: So that's where things are messed up at That's why
- 30:18Speaker 3: it's hard to find a good fight on TV these
- 30:21Speaker 3: days without having to pay for some random suscription you're
- 30:24Speaker 3: only gonna use once every six months, so it's just
- 30:27Speaker 3: all bad right now. With that being said, I don't
- 30:30Speaker 3: hate Jake Paul because he's not doing anything that he
- 30:33Speaker 3: shouldn't be doing. I hate people that support the bullshit
- 30:36Speaker 3: that Jake Paul does and people who put the money
- 30:38Speaker 3: behind him and behind the bullshit. That's why I don't
- 30:42Speaker 3: like And until that stops, we're going to keep on
- 30:44Speaker 3: getting it. But he makes so much money, he liked
- 30:47Speaker 3: by so many people. This is what it is now,
- 30:49Speaker 3: so we've got to get comfortable with this new reality.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it is unfortunate. I mean, my thing is that
- 30:56Speaker 2: everybody thinks short term and short term cash at the moment.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Not just don't just tie about fighters. I'm talking about
- 31:01Speaker 2: you know, streaming networks, this and that. I mean, And
- 31:04Speaker 2: just to kind of get into Netflix's model, I mean,
- 31:08Speaker 2: people who watch a lot of Netflix originals. I don't really,
- 31:11Speaker 2: but I've heard so many times over the years, oh man,
- 31:14Speaker 2: I'm really into the show and just got canceled after
- 31:16Speaker 2: two seasons or after one season.
- 31:18Speaker 3: More.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Yeah, they're not really the they're not really the long
- 31:22Speaker 2: term commitment type. They want to hit it and qudit
- 31:24Speaker 2: after a couple of seasons.
- 31:25Speaker 3: So he put twelve episodes on, they'll put all season
- 31:28Speaker 3: on US on Friday at midnight, and yeah, I mean
- 31:32Speaker 3: that's what they do. So if yes, people aren't watching,
- 31:34Speaker 3: then is what it is. So Box is in a
- 31:38Speaker 3: very weird spot. Man, Like we talked about all it's
- 31:40Speaker 3: in a weird spot. There's definitely good fights to be made,
- 31:42Speaker 3: great fights to be made still, but at the moment
- 31:45Speaker 3: it's in a weird spot. I don't have the answers
- 31:46Speaker 3: on what get the old spot?
- 31:49Speaker 2: Yeah, what really needs to happen and I'm not saying
- 31:52Speaker 2: that I have the answers of how this could possibly work,
- 31:54Speaker 2: is that it needs to be treated as something with
- 31:56Speaker 2: potential again, because you know, it needs to foster time
- 31:59Speaker 2: and for people to grow fan sorry for it to
- 32:02Speaker 2: grow fans of certain fighters, of young fighters, people who
- 32:05Speaker 2: will follow their person. You know, Dank Davis's pay per
- 32:08Speaker 2: view name Canelo was probably still is for this year
- 32:12Speaker 2: for the coming year, a pay per view name, and
- 32:15Speaker 2: we don't have a lot more. But where the hell
- 32:17Speaker 2: are we going to get them if they're not actually fighting,
- 32:20Speaker 2: you know what I mean?
- 32:21Speaker 3: And a couple of names you mentioned are on the
- 32:23Speaker 3: way out, like Canelo's on the way. You got a
- 32:26Speaker 3: couple more than he's out Sam with Tag's we may
- 32:29Speaker 3: never fight again. You know, as great as Bud Craft is,
- 32:35Speaker 3: I don't know if he could do a pay per
- 32:36Speaker 3: view right now. Probably could, but the number wouldn't be great.
- 32:40Speaker 3: Like so it's it's rough.
- 32:43Speaker 2: We're in a rough spot right now. Well and but
- 32:45Speaker 2: also let's not okay, that's one hundred percent true. I
- 32:48Speaker 2: don't think I also don't think that Bud will do
- 32:50Speaker 2: a great pay per view. But we also talked about
- 32:52Speaker 2: how the pay per view model isn't the thing right now,
- 32:55Speaker 2: that it's not like the nineties. The nineties was absolutely
- 32:57Speaker 2: how you know, fighters made were some of the best
- 32:59Speaker 2: paid in the world. That model has changed and now
- 33:02Speaker 2: we do need for better or worse, to focus on
- 33:05Speaker 2: subscription services apps, Netflix to be et cetera. Whatever. Right,
- 33:10Speaker 2: but they need to both sides need to realize that
- 33:14Speaker 2: it's not just well, let's put this fight on Netflix,
- 33:16Speaker 2: let's sew this fight on TV, like there really needs
- 33:18Speaker 2: to be a place to go for all of boxing
- 33:20Speaker 2: that isn't just his own. Let's be real. And here's
- 33:24Speaker 2: the thing, dude, Turkey Yella Shak, the promoter from Sadi Araba,
- 33:28Speaker 2: has said, you know, oh, the area of pay per
- 33:29Speaker 2: view is over, and then isn't the next day of
- 33:31Speaker 2: Benavita Benavitaz fight also pay per view?
- 33:34Speaker 3: Now?
- 33:34Speaker 2: Sure?
- 33:35Speaker 3: True? True, And I think it's gonna be cased by
- 33:39Speaker 3: case when it comes to these things. And I shaidn't
- 33:41Speaker 3: use a work head for you. I want to talk
- 33:43Speaker 3: about Chance Crawford. It's we're out marketing wise, like as
- 33:47Speaker 3: great a boxer as he is, and he's definitely the
- 33:49Speaker 3: best boxer walking and breathing, now he needs a big
- 33:53Speaker 3: name besides him to have a mega fight. Him alone
- 33:56Speaker 3: is not a mega fight unfortunately, and there's nothing way
- 33:58Speaker 3: for Abram he is. He's just a boxer that say,
- 34:01Speaker 3: he don't do nothing else extra like he's not a rapper.
- 34:04Speaker 3: He don't have no crime outside the boxing ring. He
- 34:07Speaker 3: don't have no celebrity girlfriend like he has none other
- 34:10Speaker 3: that so he's just a great boxer. That's fine when
- 34:12Speaker 3: it comes to marketability and for mega mega fights, he
- 34:17Speaker 3: needs an opponent that is equally as popular or if
- 34:20Speaker 3: not more popular than he is in order to make
- 34:23Speaker 3: that happen. And that's just not in the card right now.
- 34:25Speaker 3: Some of the names I've heard and seen, you know,
- 34:29Speaker 3: and you know, in connection with his next fight. Nah,
- 34:33Speaker 3: like for four years ago, those will be on ESPN
- 34:36Speaker 3: Friday Night, Saturday Night Top rank card. So no, like,
- 34:41Speaker 3: I don't want to see him find a Charlo twin.
- 34:43Speaker 3: I don't like, No one wants to see that. There's
- 34:46Speaker 3: no need for that.
- 34:47Speaker 2: So well, let's let's let's speculate a bit now that
- 34:50Speaker 2: you mentioned that, because yes, they're mentioning a potential Charlow
- 34:53Speaker 2: fight against Bud Okay. So now that now that we
- 34:56Speaker 2: know the top rank is in, is just kind of
- 34:58Speaker 2: like playing the field with two Pluto TV, et cetera.
- 35:01Speaker 2: And you know he's got a big paper you name.
- 35:04Speaker 2: His mega fight against Canelo was on Netflix. Let's say
- 35:06Speaker 2: Bud fights Charlow next. Where the hell is that going
- 35:09Speaker 2: to air? Who's like, which network, which streaming service? Which? Like,
- 35:14Speaker 2: are we gonna see Bud Crafford on two v TV?
- 35:17Speaker 2: You know, of course I'll tune in to watch.
- 35:19Speaker 3: It would surprise me. A buz phone, a random app
- 35:21Speaker 3: or ram stream that maximize bad for him. It wouldn't
- 35:25Speaker 3: surprise me. And he's gone. He's done enough in boxing
- 35:28Speaker 3: to do that. He's done enough in boxing to where
- 35:30Speaker 3: you know, what. I understand what you're doing. I understand
- 35:33Speaker 3: the play here, get your money. I'm not saying I
- 35:36Speaker 3: want to see it, but I understand if you were
- 35:38Speaker 3: to go that route. But for him, we don't really
- 35:41Speaker 3: care about those things. So I probably guess like an
- 35:43Speaker 3: Amazon or a Netflix slide, I guess I guess that
- 35:48Speaker 3: was that to probably be the most likely because they're
- 35:50Speaker 3: still uh yep, they're still involved in appears.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean yeah, he could just kind of go
- 35:56Speaker 2: to left field and go to YouTube a free fight
- 35:58Speaker 2: on YouTube like there. You know, of course it's not
- 36:00Speaker 2: gonna be free for him, and YouTube does have tea pockets. Yep,
- 36:05Speaker 2: they're increasing not deep enough to keep ESPN because they
- 36:09Speaker 2: just dropped it from YouTube TV, and I think they
- 36:11Speaker 2: just always so it's it's a mess, man. It's uh,
- 36:16Speaker 2: it's it's it's wild just seeing where it's again, it's
- 36:20Speaker 2: the not knowing, it's the speculation. And you could we
- 36:23Speaker 2: could talk about, okay, just a year ago, two years ago,
- 36:26Speaker 2: you could say, right, this fighter whoever he is, you know,
- 36:28Speaker 2: he's kind of a middle mid range name, not super big,
- 36:32Speaker 2: kind of popular this and that, but you know they're
- 36:34Speaker 2: with top rank, they're gonna be on ESPN Fighter Saturday night.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Bo that's uh. And you know, so maybe some bigger
- 36:40Speaker 2: folks that go to the PBC, they go to Amazon,
- 36:42Speaker 2: et cetera. But you always knew that old faithful was
- 36:45Speaker 2: there ESPN Saturday nights. And it's it is so weird
- 36:50Speaker 2: just talking about the sport with without that there, without
- 36:53Speaker 2: that ongoing of like every not maybe not every Saturday,
- 36:56Speaker 2: but you know, you know what I mean, most Saturdays
- 36:59Speaker 2: you'd be able to tune in and they're just be
- 37:02Speaker 2: a fight and I don't care. I just like watching fights,
- 37:05Speaker 2: even if I don't know the names and the people
- 37:07Speaker 2: in the match. When you're at home, it got nothing
- 37:10Speaker 2: to do. You're bored, you don't want to go out,
- 37:12Speaker 2: you're too broke, you're hungover. Boom, let's watch in boxing.
- 37:15Speaker 2: And that's god. That's fucking god. And it's so weird.
- 37:19Speaker 2: It's unfortunate too. I think Big Party is unfortunate. We
- 37:23Speaker 2: don't have.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Say this, but back in the day, we'd have up
- 37:28Speaker 3: and comers that you watched because you saw them on
- 37:33Speaker 3: every undercard, and they become they became up and comers
- 37:36Speaker 3: to guys that you co feature on fights and then
- 37:38Speaker 3: became feature fighters. We don't have that no more. Man Like,
- 37:41Speaker 3: there's no either you're a name wh or not. Like,
- 37:44Speaker 3: there's no up and coming or minteria. Either your upcoming
- 37:47Speaker 3: name or there's another guy that fights. Somebody would a name.
- 37:51Speaker 3: And I think that's also hard things because we're not
- 37:53Speaker 3: developing fighters anymore. We're developing brands, we're developing names. So
- 37:58Speaker 3: if you're not able to do that, then you kind
- 38:00Speaker 3: of washed to the side and fight for peanuts and
- 38:03Speaker 3: hope to get your chance.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Right.
- 38:06Speaker 2: And I imagine too, it's another thing for a fighter,
- 38:09Speaker 2: a young fighter that's getting their name out there. You
- 38:11Speaker 2: know they're pro, but they have a couple of fights
- 38:13Speaker 2: under their under their belt. Literally, uh, you know, they're
- 38:17Speaker 2: they want to sign with somebody or you know, get
- 38:19Speaker 2: involved with some promotional company. They're gonna want to be
- 38:21Speaker 2: somebody that gets a lot of eyeballs on them. Absolutely,
- 38:24Speaker 2: I don't know anything about that. I don't know anything
- 38:26Speaker 2: about that life or you know what you're looking for.
- 38:28Speaker 2: But if I'm a young guy and I got some
- 38:30Speaker 2: heat on skills and heat on social media, for example,
- 38:34Speaker 2: and they tell me like, well, you can sign here
- 38:36Speaker 2: to fight on two b I don't think there's a
- 38:39Speaker 2: problem with that. But you know, for for for a
- 38:42Speaker 2: kid that grew up watching you know, uh Tyson or
- 38:45Speaker 2: you know, or a Canello and the big Papy fights,
- 38:47Speaker 2: watching Floyd and watching money Mayweather, you know, just to
- 38:51Speaker 2: lay those stacks of cash out. You're like, well, okay,
- 38:54Speaker 2: that's cool, Like that's what I aspire to because I
- 38:57Speaker 2: want of course, you want to be a star. You know,
- 38:59Speaker 2: nobody wants to be boxer. Used to be a bot,
- 39:01Speaker 2: you aspired to that and now you got you know, yeah,
- 39:04Speaker 2: no disrespect it to me, but it is also very,
- 39:06Speaker 2: very different from even even the cachet of an ESPN
- 39:09Speaker 2: say what you will about them, like that is the
- 39:12Speaker 2: biggest name in sports, you know what I mean, And
- 39:15Speaker 2: now there's every other sport is on there except yours.
- 39:18Speaker 2: As a young guy, I can't imagine. That's got to suck.
- 39:21Speaker 3: That's rerual.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Anyway, staying on the topic of the Mayweather Pakia fight,
- 39:28Speaker 2: I want to get your take on, you know, just
- 39:30Speaker 2: where socially speaking, racially speaking, we think we stand today.
- 39:35Speaker 2: You know, we've talked, You've mentioned before, you have said
- 39:37Speaker 2: before about how there was a big divide between their fans.
- 39:42Speaker 2: You know you either Mayweather Pacquiao guy. You also said,
- 39:46Speaker 2: which you know we we may very clear because this
- 39:49Speaker 2: is the show we're on. A lot of people gravitated
- 39:52Speaker 2: toward many Pacio because of racism. They did not want
- 39:54Speaker 2: to support a black fighter, a a boisterous black fighter,
- 39:58Speaker 2: a man who ran his mouth, and a lot of
- 40:00Speaker 2: people do not like that. And so I just want
- 40:03Speaker 2: to get your take on, as someone who again never
- 40:05Speaker 2: really paid attention to what happened outside the ring, what
- 40:08Speaker 2: was the the people that really shied away from Floyd?
- 40:11Speaker 2: I mean, what was it about him specifically other than
- 40:13Speaker 2: just being a black guy.
- 40:16Speaker 3: He was loud, he was obnoxious, and he was rich,
- 40:18Speaker 3: and he constantly reminded you how rich he was. He
- 40:21Speaker 3: constantly reminded you that I got more money than you,
- 40:25Speaker 3: and I'm making this shit look easy and I'm getting
- 40:28Speaker 3: paid more money than you ever could get in your life.
- 40:31Speaker 3: That's what it was, and it was constant, it was
- 40:33Speaker 3: every day. And the biggest thing is people more people
- 40:37Speaker 3: tune in to see him lose and win, and that's
- 40:40Speaker 3: always an odd thing, but he mastered that and he
- 40:43Speaker 3: became his aora in a sense, is people want to
- 40:47Speaker 3: tune in and see if he's going to lose. And
- 40:50Speaker 3: when you get that, you mastered the marketing. And he's
- 40:53Speaker 3: a great marketer. But it was basically a lot of
- 40:56Speaker 3: people didn't like how arrogant he was and the constant
- 41:00Speaker 3: flashing of money, cars, jewelry, et cetera. They turn off
- 41:05Speaker 3: a big section of this country with that, right.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Uh, what not to say that these two are in
- 41:12Speaker 2: any way the same by any means. But my issue
- 41:15Speaker 2: with Jake Paul is that a lot of people also
- 41:17Speaker 2: ted in to watch him lose, that they're hoping that
- 41:19Speaker 2: he loses. But with him, it's not a matter of
- 41:22Speaker 2: he's just so skilled that he's gonna win every time.
- 41:24Speaker 2: It's just, you know, he he picks fake fights, he
- 41:26Speaker 2: picks you know tomato.
- 41:27Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not the same man, It's not the same.
- 41:30Speaker 3: And like, why no one takes him seriously? Why I'm
- 41:34Speaker 3: gonna be honest, Like, I don't take him seriously. He's
- 41:37Speaker 3: he's just a guy. Like I mean, he's making a
- 41:40Speaker 3: lot of money, so God bless him, But no one
- 41:42Speaker 3: cares at the end of the day. No, like, no
- 41:45Speaker 3: one boxing wise cares. He's not gonna find a real
- 41:47Speaker 3: boxer like I don't know what would happened to when
- 41:49Speaker 3: him and Tang. I don't know if I was if
- 41:51Speaker 3: thing's gonna literally hit him, hit him, but we don't care,
- 41:53Speaker 3: like that wasn't No.
- 41:56Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's just that's just an aside. But yeah,
- 41:58Speaker 2: I mean interesting, I means as Floyd Mayweather is kind
- 42:02Speaker 2: of estem changing people's mind because he's also here's the thing,
- 42:06Speaker 2: what has he actually been doing. He hasn't been involved
- 42:08Speaker 2: in anything that I've seen in other brands, Like he's
- 42:11Speaker 2: been just quiet. He's just been enjoying his fat stacks
- 42:14Speaker 2: of cash. I guess.
- 42:15Speaker 3: Yeah, he's been a lot of business deals and whatnot,
- 42:17Speaker 3: so he's taking care of that. But yeah, there's nothing.
- 42:22Speaker 2: But there's no like I've never seen like, oh he's
- 42:25Speaker 2: got his energy drink. He knows what people usually do,
- 42:28Speaker 2: got an energy drink. He's got you know whatever, advertising
- 42:31Speaker 2: for vetting companies, you know, advertising for any of that stuff.
- 42:35Speaker 2: He didn't seem to be doing any of that.
- 42:36Speaker 3: Best. He's doing a lot of business stuff. I know that.
- 42:39Speaker 3: I know he's involved a lot of business, does a
- 42:41Speaker 3: lot of real estate. But other than that, boxing is
- 42:44Speaker 3: not really involved like that, notespecially on day to day.
- 42:47Speaker 2: Yeah, so what how do we feel about is there
- 42:50Speaker 2: going to be another racial divide for Paki, the.
- 42:54Speaker 3: Racial violes when people care. People don't care about this fight.
- 42:58Speaker 3: So it's whatever. Now, ten years ago they fought absolutely
- 43:02Speaker 3: well between eight in that fight. There's a big divide
- 43:06Speaker 3: because you're either one side or the other. You couldn't
- 43:09Speaker 3: be neutral. So it was huge back in the day.
- 43:12Speaker 3: Now they're both washed up, no one cares well.
- 43:16Speaker 2: And you know, I think about it too. It's something
- 43:18Speaker 2: that we we are missing as well. These days. It's
- 43:21Speaker 2: very few fighters have that big of a fan base
- 43:23Speaker 2: where if you're either this person or that person. Not really.
- 43:26Speaker 2: I mean, yes, there's the big fights where you know,
- 43:29Speaker 2: Canelo versus, but it's like, you know, Black versus Mexican,
- 43:32Speaker 2: et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. But something like, I
- 43:35Speaker 2: don't know, it would be the equivalent of I don't
- 43:39Speaker 2: Chaves versus Deloya, right, Like you were either you were
- 43:43Speaker 2: if you're a Chilvis, you were not a Delaya.
- 43:45Speaker 3: Fan, right.
- 43:46Speaker 2: And you know I've alluded before my show. My mother
- 43:49Speaker 2: to this day says terrible things about delay, my old mother,
- 43:52Speaker 2: who I was like, Mom, you can't say that ship,
- 43:55Speaker 2: but yeah, we don't do we do we really have
- 43:59Speaker 2: anybody like that today? Two fighters are just kind of
- 44:03Speaker 2: not just about passion because you're a fan of a fighter,
- 44:06Speaker 2: but like you're a fan of the fighter and you're
- 44:08Speaker 2: k and you hate the fans of the other fighter,
- 44:10Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. Like, we lost that too.
- 44:12Speaker 3: We definitely lost that. It's not the same anymore. But
- 44:14Speaker 3: also it's not marketing the same. These guys are making
- 44:18Speaker 3: money and ducking off. They're now social media like that.
- 44:21Speaker 3: It's just not the same. It's a different, different generation.
- 44:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like this episode has been I'm not
- 44:28Speaker 2: gonna say a bummer, but it's definitely been a lot
- 44:30Speaker 2: of you know, kind of the darker side of the
- 44:32Speaker 2: boxing world. The absolute like but hey, you know what,
- 44:35Speaker 2: that's important too, you know, And this is I still
- 44:37Speaker 2: love it. This is the greatest boor in the world.
- 44:39Speaker 2: I can watch a fight and just be super excited,
- 44:41Speaker 2: even if I don't know the fighters. I can be
- 44:43Speaker 2: just obsessed with watching the way they move, the skills
- 44:46Speaker 2: they have, you know, super inspired and all that. But
- 44:49Speaker 2: there's a lot of things about bucksting this trash and
- 44:52Speaker 2: we gotta we gotta take the good end together, you know.
- 44:55Speaker 2: And I'm not just gonna sit here and just you know,
- 44:58Speaker 2: talking about how everything is honey Dory, and hey, you know,
- 45:01Speaker 2: we're we've always strived to be a very real show
- 45:03Speaker 2: about real issues in the sport. So well, moving on
- 45:07Speaker 2: to something that we can absolutely talk about the heydays
- 45:13Speaker 2: of the show, We're going to move into our segment
- 45:17Speaker 2: called pop Pugilism, a recurring segment in which we talk
- 45:19Speaker 2: about a movie or TV show about boxing documentaries as well,
- 45:24Speaker 2: which is what we're talking about today. And as always,
- 45:26Speaker 2: this segment is brought to you by our friends at
- 45:28Speaker 2: the Bad Movies, Worst People Podcast, and we've got a
- 45:31Speaker 2: commercial to run from them. Let's check them out. Guys.
- 45:35Speaker 2: I got a new philosophy, right. Life is a lot
- 45:38Speaker 2: like a bad movie. It can suck, But if you
- 45:41Speaker 2: get together with friends and you drink, you can at
- 45:43Speaker 2: least have a good time while the movie sucks. What
- 45:45Speaker 2: about other things? Can you do other things? You can
- 45:48Speaker 2: have any sort of caveat you want. But I mean,
- 45:51Speaker 2: I just more mean, do you guys want to get
- 45:52Speaker 2: together and just watch bad movies and make fun of them?
- 45:54Speaker 3: Yeah? I do.
- 45:55Speaker 2: That anyway by myself might as well doing together. Ooh,
- 45:58Speaker 2: I'll get so bullets. I think we can start a podcast, guys,
- 46:02Speaker 2: I think we should. I have a great name for it,
- 46:04Speaker 2: Bad Movies Worse People, and you'll be able to find
- 46:07Speaker 2: it anywhere you can get podcasts, or you can go
- 46:10Speaker 2: to Badmovies, Worse People dot com.
- 46:11Speaker 3: That's amazing.
- 46:12Speaker 2: And you can tell there's no actors on this podcast,
- 46:15Speaker 2: like I mean, it's really painfully clear that the acting
- 46:18Speaker 2: is not where we shine. Yes, it's very clear, very clear.
- 46:22Speaker 2: Thanks a lot of guys, Badmovies, Worse People dot com.
- 46:25Speaker 2: So today we are talking about a movie called Facing Ali.
- 46:28Speaker 2: It is a documentary from two thousand and nine, directed
- 46:31Speaker 2: by Peter McCormick. And yeah, this one was really cool
- 46:34Speaker 2: because you know, I've seen several Elee documentaries. There's I
- 46:37Speaker 2: mean a million of them out there. This one I
- 46:41Speaker 2: liked was specifically because it was his opponents speaking about
- 46:45Speaker 2: their experiences in the ring with him. And if you're
- 46:49Speaker 2: watching us on YouTube, but you totally showed it so
- 46:51Speaker 2: you can look at our handsome mugs. We've got a
- 46:53Speaker 2: poster here with the list of the people that are
- 46:55Speaker 2: actually interviewed a lot of names that had a lot
- 46:58Speaker 2: of good and bad experiences against Ali. So yeah, gave
- 47:03Speaker 2: us the first thoughts, what do you think? What do
- 47:04Speaker 2: you think about this documentary?
- 47:06Speaker 3: Very polarizing figure, and people liked that word around a lot,
- 47:09Speaker 3: but Ali was very polarizing. Whenever you whenever you're able
- 47:13Speaker 3: to get former opponents to get on record to speak
- 47:16Speaker 3: about their experience, is good, bad, and ugly with someone,
- 47:21Speaker 3: it's very impressive. And also he came to this everybody.
- 47:24Speaker 3: It's not for everyone. This is for only the greats.
- 47:27Speaker 3: So this was different. This was actually really good film.
- 47:31Speaker 3: I guess you could say it's kind of a documentary
- 47:33Speaker 3: but film so to speak. No, it's definitely definitely dope.
- 47:38Speaker 3: But also they each have different situations with him, because
- 47:44Speaker 3: Joe Fraser and Larry Holmes have two totally different stories, right,
- 47:49Speaker 3: like totally different eras and everything. So it's all really
- 47:53Speaker 3: really fascinating. With that being said, though we have never
- 47:58Speaker 3: seen someone like Muhammad Ali terms of an actual boxer,
- 48:03Speaker 3: we haven't seen that since then. What I mean is
- 48:06Speaker 3: not it's I can carry a fight, but that can
- 48:09Speaker 3: make the public interested in boxing to where they only
- 48:13Speaker 3: tune in to watch it we haven't found that guy,
- 48:15Speaker 3: like we've missed him since his prime or is later prime.
- 48:19Speaker 3: We have not had a guy captivate maybe Tyson, maybe,
- 48:23Speaker 3: but it is in general, a guy is very It
- 48:28Speaker 3: gives timing is the eras are different, so they boxing
- 48:30Speaker 3: in the seventies eighties was waiter than this today. But
- 48:34Speaker 3: let me believe it's like a he was a megastar
- 48:37Speaker 3: and he could have been in any era and he
- 48:39Speaker 3: would have got casual fans in any era, and we're
- 48:42Speaker 3: lacking that now. As a better way of saying it.
- 48:47Speaker 2: Yeah, that's really really well said. I mean, the thing
- 48:51Speaker 2: I really liked about this most is because we talk
- 48:54Speaker 2: everybody talks about Alee and they always say greatest of
- 48:56Speaker 2: all time. It's kind of it's cliche at this point.
- 48:58Speaker 2: You know, you could ask anybody name name a fighter
- 49:02Speaker 2: that's ever lived in history, and most people who don't
- 49:04Speaker 2: know anything about sports at all will probably know who
- 49:06Speaker 2: Muhammad Ali is.
- 49:07Speaker 3: Wow.
- 49:08Speaker 2: But I really like that the people on the other end,
- 49:12Speaker 2: the other end of those punches are literally talked about
- 49:15Speaker 2: why he is so skilled and what they saw in
- 49:18Speaker 2: what they fell and you know, them getting rocked, them
- 49:20Speaker 2: not even being able to lay a hand on him,
- 49:23Speaker 2: you know, his heavyweight six one, I believe, I don't remember,
- 49:27Speaker 2: but one of the fighters that he moved like he's,
- 49:30Speaker 2: you know, a little guy. And that's something that we
- 49:32Speaker 2: talked about Tyson. You know, he was under six feet tall,
- 49:36Speaker 2: which is strange for a heavyweight, big beefy guy, but
- 49:40Speaker 2: he moved light on his feet like he's just you know,
- 49:43Speaker 2: a middleweight dude. And so having that for somebody that
- 49:47Speaker 2: at that weight class is just amazing, and it's so
- 49:50Speaker 2: cool to hear the actual people that were there talk
- 49:53Speaker 2: about they just just remembering. I mean, my god, just
- 49:56Speaker 2: remembering like the way were they able to try to
- 49:59Speaker 2: get through his jam so they kind of got through
- 50:01Speaker 2: his defense and this and that, and the way that
- 50:05Speaker 2: they these guys are like, I know I heard him.
- 50:08Speaker 2: He played it off for you, but I know I
- 50:09Speaker 2: heard him, like I I was there, Like I actually
- 50:11Speaker 2: led to that punch. I know he was hurting during
- 50:14Speaker 2: This match was so interesting because you know, you could
- 50:18Speaker 2: just say you can watch it on a leaf and
- 50:19Speaker 2: it was like he didn't get touched, he didn't get rocked.
- 50:21Speaker 2: Yeah he got hit, but it didn't phase him at all.
- 50:24Speaker 2: But this is from either announcers, you know, audiences, but
- 50:27Speaker 2: hearing from the people that were there is really, really,
- 50:29Speaker 2: really cool. So I definitely appreciate that about this movie.
- 50:33Speaker 2: Definitely something This is something that you could just do
- 50:36Speaker 2: for so many fighters, Like you just do the same
- 50:38Speaker 2: format for Chavis, for Mayweather. Like I'm kind of surprised
- 50:42Speaker 2: that it hasn't been done.
- 50:43Speaker 3: Already like that.
- 50:44Speaker 2: People didn't rip off people Kormicks, I guess format rip
- 50:49Speaker 2: off his whole flow.
- 50:50Speaker 3: Well, so back in the day, we didn't have all access,
- 50:54Speaker 3: we didn't have podcasts, we didn't have those things. So
- 50:58Speaker 3: the insensitive is something like this backland is way different.
- 51:01Speaker 3: Now you get on the podcast and share. You know,
- 51:04Speaker 3: you can get eight different guys that Floyda's fought and
- 51:07Speaker 3: get different perspectives and whatnot. You can get eight guys
- 51:11Speaker 3: Sarre Crawford fought and get their perspectives on that. Back
- 51:15Speaker 3: this time in the two thousands, con tricky, right, we
- 51:19Speaker 3: didn't have podcasts like that. There was you know, the
- 51:23Speaker 3: docs and movies were different. So I can understand why
- 51:27Speaker 3: that this was done, but not for a lot of
- 51:29Speaker 3: others because others it's more of a YouTube short film,
- 51:32Speaker 3: short story thing rather than actual movie itself.
- 51:37Speaker 2: That's fair, and that's definitely something that technology has made
- 51:41Speaker 2: a lot easier. But there is something about you know, yeah,
- 51:44Speaker 2: there's documentaries are still being made, even though you can
- 51:47Speaker 2: still tell stories on podcasts. So I think that something
- 51:50Speaker 2: like this for fun, maybe not maybe not in Mayweather,
- 51:52Speaker 2: maybe not a butt, but you go back, let's say
- 51:54Speaker 2: like early Tyson, you know, get his opponents up there
- 51:57Speaker 2: who are still around. I think I think it would
- 52:00Speaker 2: actually be very interesting. More so, how about this, I'd
- 52:02Speaker 2: be more interested in that documentary that's in this format
- 52:06Speaker 2: than another biopic, you know, with somebody playing.
- 52:09Speaker 3: Oh yea.
- 52:11Speaker 2: Yeaeah. Like the bioplays all take a certain they're all
- 52:14Speaker 2: a certain cliche format anyway, So something like this I
- 52:19Speaker 2: definitely think would would would hit. I think it would
- 52:22Speaker 2: do great, agreed. Another thing I liked is that each
- 52:27Speaker 2: fighter also got to tell a little bit of their
- 52:28Speaker 2: own story, so it's not just about the match, but also,
- 52:32Speaker 2: you know, George Chavalo all of a sudden just talking about,
- 52:35Speaker 2: you know, how he lost some kids, kids passed away
- 52:38Speaker 2: to drugs. His wife passed away as well. She committed
- 52:41Speaker 2: suicide after one of their kids died and it's really intense,
- 52:43Speaker 2: you know he is. He went from just kind of
- 52:46Speaker 2: being very upbeat talking about how he heard Ali and
- 52:48Speaker 2: Ali was definitely bleeding for the kidneys, and he went
- 52:51Speaker 2: out dancing with his lady that night that he was all,
- 52:53Speaker 2: you know, super super excited about it. And then you know,
- 52:57Speaker 2: he got super serious and went into the story. And
- 52:59Speaker 2: every fighter gets to their little their chance to tell
- 53:01Speaker 2: a little bit something about themselves. And it was super
- 53:05Speaker 2: cool because a lot of these names I've some of
- 53:08Speaker 2: them we know, like George Foreman, of course, but some
- 53:10Speaker 2: of these names I've heard but don't know enough outside
- 53:14Speaker 2: of them being Alia Putts, you know. Right, ron Lyle
- 53:19Speaker 2: is a guy who straight up said like, yeah, I
- 53:21Speaker 2: lost to Tali, but hey, if I hadn't, you wouldn't
- 53:24Speaker 2: be sitting here talking to ron Lyle like about what,
- 53:27Speaker 2: which is really funny. And I mean he's right. You know,
- 53:30Speaker 2: we know a lot of people know Joe Fraser, like
- 53:31Speaker 2: I said, don't George for him, but I didn't know
- 53:34Speaker 2: ron Lyle or much about Ernie Shavers either, So yeah,
- 53:40Speaker 2: it was. It was really interesting and really enlightening about
- 53:43Speaker 2: the sport itself, not just about the man Ali. They
- 53:48Speaker 2: do go through a lot of history as well, and
- 53:50Speaker 2: a lot of stuff that we as fight fans who've
- 53:52Speaker 2: seen other movies already know about him refusing to go
- 53:55Speaker 2: to Vietnam, about you know, being suspended from boxing, going
- 53:58Speaker 2: to jail, et cetera, or whatever. So they do go
- 54:01Speaker 2: through that history. So it is good for beginners. But
- 54:06Speaker 2: at the end of the day, I think I liked
- 54:07Speaker 2: more than it showed at least style changing over the years.
- 54:11Speaker 2: And like you said, yeah, very different from when he
- 54:14Speaker 2: fought Joe Fraser to when.
- 54:15Speaker 3: He fought what is it, Larry Holmes, Larry Holmes.
- 54:20Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Yeah, I'm looking at the names and I'm
- 54:22Speaker 2: getting all mixed up. But yeah, when he fought Larry Holmes,
- 54:25Speaker 2: you know, he was on his way up.
- 54:27Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 54:28Speaker 2: You can also see just the difference in how he
- 54:32Speaker 2: spoke his cadence. You know, he was very fast on
- 54:35Speaker 2: his feet, uh and then close to that fight he
- 54:39Speaker 2: was just kind of slowed down in his in his
- 54:42Speaker 2: sweet pens and is a real bumber to watch. So yeah,
- 54:47Speaker 2: another thing I want you mentioned about this, Uh So
- 54:53Speaker 2: this was this is a tough I'm gonna tread carefully here.
- 54:57Speaker 2: A lot of these all these fighters are old guys, okay, yeah,
- 55:00Speaker 2: and a lot of them needed subtitles because it was
- 55:03Speaker 2: very hard to understand. And I think it really shows
- 55:06Speaker 2: like is this because of what boxing did to them
- 55:10Speaker 2: in their youth and how they're just very I guess
- 55:14Speaker 2: we're very bumbly. We're just kind of difficult to understand.
- 55:17Speaker 2: I mean, you know, it takes a toll on you.
- 55:20Speaker 2: What did you think about that part?
- 55:23Speaker 3: It's rough, man, because we know what it is like.
- 55:25Speaker 3: We're not stupid. We know that sport is unforgiving, that
- 55:29Speaker 3: sport is not a sport where you last long. You know,
- 55:33Speaker 3: it's not. So we understand the challenge their brains or
- 55:37Speaker 3: both adults. We know how this works. Unfortunately, the game
- 55:40Speaker 3: was the game. Unfortunately they worked in a profession, they
- 55:44Speaker 3: had a lot of risk, so unfortunately this is what happens.
- 55:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, so these guys are when this was made,
- 55:52Speaker 2: I guess in the sixties. And here's the thing. Yeah,
- 55:55Speaker 2: they sound very very different than sixty. Isn't that old,
- 56:00Speaker 2: you know, especially these days. So but these guys, you know,
- 56:04Speaker 2: their speech patterns, their cadence, the way that's to be.
- 56:06Speaker 2: It was a little hard to watch to be honest,
- 56:08Speaker 2: even as a fan of boxing, I was like the
- 56:10Speaker 2: way somebody comes down on the other side. It was
- 56:14Speaker 2: just kind of it was it's kind of hit like
- 56:16Speaker 2: a ton of breaks, watching one guy after another just
- 56:19Speaker 2: kind of have difficulties speaking clearly, and it was a
- 56:22Speaker 2: little bit of stuff, to be quite honest with you.
- 56:25Speaker 3: The medical back then was not like what it is today.
- 56:30Speaker 2: Absolutely absolutely so. But it was a sobering reminder of
- 56:34Speaker 2: you know, we watch the sport and we can critique it.
- 56:36Speaker 2: We say it's we have a lot of fun watching,
- 56:39Speaker 2: or you know, talk a lot of shit about fighters
- 56:41Speaker 2: this and that, but you're right, it is unforgiving and
- 56:43Speaker 2: we always have to remember that the human element of
- 56:46Speaker 2: people getting into that ring, they're getting sucked up like
- 56:48Speaker 2: they are not this is you don't play boxing and
- 56:51Speaker 2: you don't you know, just go in there. You don't
- 56:54Speaker 2: go in there unprepared, and you don't go in there
- 56:55Speaker 2: without knowing the risks you can. And my hat's off
- 56:58Speaker 2: to all these guys.
- 57:01Speaker 3: Yep.
- 57:01Speaker 2: Just final thoughts on this, Jamison and overall the on
- 57:04Speaker 2: the documentary what you.
- 57:05Speaker 3: Said, we need more of these for other guys, even
- 57:08Speaker 3: if it's a short film. I think just the overall
- 57:11Speaker 3: boxing knowledge is cool. I think Floyd Crawford, Canelo, de
- 57:16Speaker 3: La Hoya Dela Hoya fall like eighty five people, so
- 57:18Speaker 3: it'd be cool to have that, But just in general,
- 57:21Speaker 3: I think it would be more good than harm if
- 57:24Speaker 3: we have more of these ties because it really gives
- 57:26Speaker 3: you a detailed emphasis on the matchups and also each fighter.
- 57:31Speaker 2: Yeah, Peter mcormick, I don't know what you're up to
- 57:33Speaker 2: these days. But although I did see I had not
- 57:35Speaker 2: heard this guy. But he also made a Bruce Lee
- 57:38Speaker 2: documentary I'm definitely gonna check out, and Less Less Your Parent.
- 57:41Speaker 2: He did a Joe Frasher documentary, So okay, yeah, yeah,
- 57:45Speaker 2: so we're I'm calling now We're going to see Peter
- 57:47Speaker 2: McCormick's moving back on this show very soon on this second.
- 57:51Speaker 2: So yeah, definitely really cool, really interesting. And another thing too,
- 57:56Speaker 2: is for fighters, I guess even the nineties, because we're
- 57:59Speaker 2: we're washing getting up there. If a movie like this
- 58:02Speaker 2: is going to be made, it has to be soon
- 58:03Speaker 2: for a lot of these guys for the same reasons
- 58:05Speaker 2: we just mentioned, not just age, but they're they're limited
- 58:08Speaker 2: faculties after boxing for so long, you know, Oscar Deloya
- 58:12Speaker 2: fought a lot, and he still seems to be on
- 58:15Speaker 2: his game. You know, tesn't slowed down a bit, But
- 58:17Speaker 2: I don't know that's that's surprising, to be honesty, that
- 58:19Speaker 2: Oscar still is.
- 58:21Speaker 3: Austria to take a lot of punishment though, if you
- 58:23Speaker 3: think about.
- 58:24Speaker 2: It, that's true, that's true. That's a good point.
- 58:25Speaker 3: He didn't take any like while he got beat in
- 58:29Speaker 3: a few fights, but it wasn't like, oh I'm worried
- 58:31Speaker 3: about his health. He just got out classed at times,
- 58:34Speaker 3: especially at the end, but I don't remember him taking
- 58:36Speaker 3: any like really bad punishment per se.
- 58:41Speaker 2: That's a good point. That's I guess, kind of the
- 58:42Speaker 2: same thing with with Chavez. I mean, yeah, he's he
- 58:45Speaker 2: wasn't exactly he got beat several times, but yeah, there
- 58:49Speaker 2: was never him getting you know, knocked down over and
- 58:50Speaker 2: over and over, hit in the canvas, you know, get
- 58:53Speaker 2: rocked over and over.
- 58:54Speaker 3: So yeah, that.
- 58:54Speaker 2: Would make sense, but uh yeah, no, I don't know
- 58:57Speaker 2: if if if it can be, even if it could
- 59:01Speaker 2: be like like I said, a podcast series of fighters
- 59:04Speaker 2: who have fought who are lesser known, who have fought
- 59:06Speaker 2: the big names over the years, whatever it is, I
- 59:08Speaker 2: absolutely loved this format, and I think it's super cool
- 59:11Speaker 2: and interesting and it's I think it's very enlightening for
- 59:14Speaker 2: non boxing fans as well. You know, nobody's really talking
- 59:16Speaker 2: technically about the way they're moving, Like I don't know,
- 59:19Speaker 2: it's just like, oh I threw I threw a three,
- 59:21Speaker 2: and then I threw like a six and then I
- 59:23Speaker 2: got caught with this because I moved you know, uh
- 59:26Speaker 2: this on this side of the ring ball blah. They're
- 59:28Speaker 2: just being very clear about like what they were trying
- 59:30Speaker 2: to do, how they're trying to land punch just to
- 59:32Speaker 2: the body, to the head, get on the inside. Nothing
- 59:35Speaker 2: too technical. But a newbie can't you know, I can't
- 59:37Speaker 2: pick up on Yeah, So on this show. We always
- 59:42Speaker 2: rate movies out of four gloves. It's a weird rating
- 59:44Speaker 2: documentaries because they're not like, you know, narratives. But Jamison
- 59:47Speaker 2: out of four gloves, how would you rate Facing All
- 59:49Speaker 2: Leave from two thousand and nine? Ah?
- 59:51Speaker 3: Three point three three? Okay? They looked really good, like
- 59:57Speaker 3: it was really really good.
- 59:59Speaker 2: What keeps you for reading it higher?
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: Like?
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: What keeps it from being a full four?
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: It was kind of simple, like the the there wasn't
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: anything that like I learned through it, per se, and
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: it wasn't something where the way it was done I get,
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: I appreciate the concept of it, but it wasn't anything
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: that was like groundbreaking or anything like that. Like they
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: got people that we knew of, they asked them to
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: interview them, and that was kind of it. There was
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: nothing really outside of that that was like mind blowing
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: my opinion, per se. But I think it was shot well.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: I think it was done well professionally. I see anything
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: that was like, oh wow, they should get a four
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: or three point seventy five, sure fair?
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: I mean yeah, And I what I liked about it
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: wasn't that it was very enlightening that I got a
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: lot of new knowledge about it. For me, it was
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: just that new perspective on on on Ali and you know,
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: from these fighters who were actually there and just kind
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: of seeing how just what they look like now and
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: what they sound like was was just really interesting. So
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: I'll go three point.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: Five on it.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: Still very solid, Still good time and h yeah, definitely uh,
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: definitely worth your time if you're interested in boxing learning
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: about it. Okay, So Jamison, where can people find you
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: on social media?
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: On Twitter? At the Jamison usually on there. Hopefully it's
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: some great fight nights. I know, we got some guys
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: coming up, and if not for this year, we got
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: some guys come up early next year. Hopefully. We still
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: do't have a Tia femo and UHM is supposed to
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: fight there you go. We still don't have that lined
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: up and it's odd to me, so whatever, sooner or
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: later hopefully.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: Yeah, they said it'd be for January, and there's some
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: there's always something coming up they're still working on. I mean,
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: I just do the damn fight. Give us something to
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: look forward to in the new year, you know, just
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: to give us some some slight amount of joy to
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: look forward to in this damn this life of ours.
