- 0:00Welcome to the Revolution of Purpose podcast. I'm your host,
- 0:03John Streit, and each week we bring you conversations with thought leaders,
- 0:07entrepreneurs, and individuals who have aligned their life
- 0:11with purpose and created extraordinary results. So I'm going to live
- 0:14through it and accept it radically with grace and hope and love.
- 0:18I mean, I would be proud to be in this household. It was an honor.
- 0:21I had so much fun. Tune in every Monday for the Revolution of Purpose solo
- 0:25show and every Thursday for Revolution of Purpose Conversations.
- 0:29Welcome to the Revolution of Purpose solo show. My name is John Streit,
- 0:33and I am so glad you're here with me today. I really wanna talk to
- 0:36you about something very important, and this is about the thief within,
- 0:41that voice that steals your purpose. So forget the thief in
- 0:46the alley that's trying to steal your purse. Instead, we need to pay attention
- 0:49to the thief that is in our mind who's after our purpose.
- 0:53Most people spend their lives trying to protect themselves from the thieves outside,
- 0:58And that's really important, but very few ever notice
- 1:02that there is a thief inside. And that one doesn't just want to steal your
- 1:05wallet. It steals your courage. It tries to steal your dreams,
- 1:09your calling, your confidence, your purpose. And here's
- 1:13what makes this thief so dangerous. It doesn't break into your life.
- 1:17It convinces you to hand over the keys. This isn't an episode
- 1:21about becoming more motivated. It is about becoming more liberated.
- 1:26Because I don't believe most people are trapped by their circumstances.
- 1:30I think that a lot of people are trapped by unconscious
- 1:34agreements that they have made with a version of themselves that they have
- 1:38already outgrown. That's not to say that there aren't circumstances
- 1:42that hold people back, that there aren't systems of injustice that hold
- 1:46people back. But what I do want to say is that you have so much
- 1:49more power inside yourself than maybe you realize.
- 1:53Over the last several solo episodes, we've been building something together.
- 1:57I've talked a lot about attention because what captures your attention eventually
- 2:01captures your life. We talked in one episode about your calendar because
- 2:05your calendar is writing your future. We talked about the 2 roads
- 2:09that are always before us, the fearful road and that of the Creator.
- 2:13But today I want to ask a deeper question. If you
- 2:17already know who you want to become, Why is it still so
- 2:21difficult to act like that person, to believe that
- 2:25you're that person, to literally flow in alignment
- 2:29with that person? Why is that so difficult,
- 2:32my friends? It's because the answer is the thief within.
- 2:35Let's find liberation from this thief together today. I'd like
- 2:39to show you how to shift your mindset and tap into your power
- 2:43so that this thief of your purpose loses his power.
- 2:47Here's 3 different shifts that we're going to talk about today. Shift number
- 2:511 is from limitation to identity.
- 2:55The question that I want you to ask yourself is this: who have I been
- 2:58believing that I am? Because the thief tries to
- 3:02steal your identity before it ever tries to even steal your dreams.
- 3:06Once the thief convinces you that you're not the person
- 3:10capable of living your purpose, You believe
- 3:14you can't do it, so you stop pursuing it. We've talked a
- 3:17lot lately about the law of identity transformation and how we first
- 3:22awaken to the possibility that we can be this person.
- 3:25You know, we awaken to that identity, we become that person, then we take aligned
- 3:29action as that person and we create our new reality. Well, the same
- 3:33thing goes when we're listening to that voice in our head saying that we're
- 3:37not capable. Because then we're awakening to a false thing that we're
- 3:41not that person. And then we take aligned action of not flowing in that
- 3:45identity. And then we're creating a reality that we don't like
- 3:49around us. We have to stop pursuing that voice that's telling
- 3:53us we can't do it. We have to change our identity. And that
- 3:57happens by shifting our paradigm of thinking. That happens by identifying
- 4:01beliefs that we have that are limiting us. So many
- 4:05times we have these limiting beliefs just through programming since we were kids,
- 4:09maybe. You know, it could be something that your parents told you,
- 4:12something that your teachers taught you. Somewhere down the line, someone said,
- 4:16you are not this person. Or maybe they said, you are
- 4:20this person. You know, growing up with my parents, we weren't
- 4:24wealthy. I didn't think that bad people were wealthy
- 4:27or wealthy people were bad. What I did think was that we weren't
- 4:31wealthy people. I just didn't see myself as that. I was taught that
- 4:35that's who we were not. And so then I believed that for years until
- 4:38finally one day I realized I'm holding myself back due
- 4:42to this programming, that internal dialogue that I had
- 4:45had for years. It's what I have observed and it was what I believed
- 4:50about myself. The thief was telling me something that was not true.
- 4:54Have you ever heard of Roger Bannister? I know a lot of people probably have,
- 4:57but Roger Bannister was this amazing person
- 5:01who, who finally beat the 4-minute
- 5:04mile. So, up until Roger Bannister, every athlete believed
- 5:09you could not run a mile in under 4 minutes. The coaches
- 5:12believed it. The experts believed it. The scientists believed
- 5:16it. The doctors believed it. Everybody said, you cannot do it. It is impossible
- 5:20to beat the 4-minute mile. And yet, Roger Bannister did
- 5:24it. And then, what fascinates me is not simply that he broke
- 5:28the world record, but what happened afterwards. Suddenly,
- 5:32other runners began doing what he had done.
- 5:35Other runners began breaking that 4-minute mile. And what had
- 5:39seemed impossible became possible. And what changed?
- 5:43Was it human psychology? Somewhat. Was it human physiology?
- 5:47Not at all. Was it human belief?
- 5:50Absolutely. One of the most fascinating ideas that
- 5:55is discussed in quantum physics is the power of observation.
- 5:58And when we become aware of a new possibility, we begin perceiving
- 6:02opportunities that we couldn't see before. Roger Bannister didn't simply
- 6:06run a faster mile. He changed what people believed
- 6:09was possible. And once that belief changed, then actions
- 6:13followed. Think about the Wright brothers for a moment. The Wright brothers did
- 6:18something very similar. They didn't just simply build an airplane.
- 6:21They expanded humanity's belief about what humanity
- 6:25could even do, that we could actually take flight.
- 6:29I wonder how many 4-minute miles exist in our own
- 6:33lives, not because they're impossible, but because we've unknowingly accepted
- 6:38someone else's limits of our own. How many
- 6:41opportunities do we have to take flight? But we don't because we haven't
- 6:46seen it happen before to people like us. We haven't seen it happen before to
- 6:50people who were raised where we were raised or people who have our background
- 6:54or people who have our age or looks or whatever it is.
- 6:58So we stay grounded while others learn to fly.
- 7:01The second shift I want you to make in your mindset is from
- 7:05comfort to courage. The question to ask yourself for this is,
- 7:08what comfort have I mistaken for safety? Because here's
- 7:12the thing about the thief. He rarely tells us to quit. He simply tells
- 7:16us to wait. Wait until you're ready. Wait until you're
- 7:21more confident. Wait until you know enough. Wait until life
- 7:24settles down. Wait until the fear disappears. My friends, the greatest
- 7:29competitor to your purpose is not failure. It is familiarity.
- 7:33Because we have a paradigm where we are comfortable in what
- 7:38we know. And identity likes to protect itself.
- 7:41Our identity is our paradigm, believing that
- 7:45this is who we are and we can't become the other person. We can't become
- 7:48that guy. We can't achieve these dreams. So, why try?
- 7:53I think about Thomas Edison with this. You know, Thomas Edison didn't keep trying because
- 7:57he had some extraordinary willpower. He kept trying because he believed
- 8:02that he was an inventor. He saw himself in that identity.
- 8:05And you know what? Inventors, they experiment, but sometimes
- 8:09inventors fail. But when inventors fail, they learn.
- 8:13His identity interpreted failure differently than
- 8:16everyone else. And once identity changes, aligned action
- 8:21becomes natural. Maybe not easy, especially at first,
- 8:24but natural. Unaligned action starts to make you
- 8:28feel uneasy. You can tell in your gut when you're doing something that just
- 8:32does not fit who your identity is. Have you
- 8:35ever noticed some habits just simply disappear as you grow older?
- 8:39Some fears stop making sense to you. They don't have power
- 8:43over you anymore. Some excuses don't even sound believable anymore.
- 8:47Why is that? It's because they belong to someone that you're
- 8:51no longer becoming. Have you ever gone back to see a house
- 8:55that you lived in maybe when you were a kid or 20 years ago or
- 8:59something like that? And you drive through the neighborhood and you just think, you know,
- 9:02this is nice. I have great memories here, but what I actually want
- 9:06is a time machine. Like, I don't want to literally move back right now.
- 9:08I just would love to have a time machine and go back and see my
- 9:11family and my friends. That's because you're recognizing that
- 9:15you're not that person anymore. You're not the person that still
- 9:19lived in that home, in that neighborhood, in that part of town. You've changed.
- 9:23Your identity has changed. And so now it no longer fits with you.
- 9:27The 3rd shift that I want you to make is from agreement to
- 9:31aligned action. Which voice am I going to agree
- 9:36with today? We just talked about in the last episode
- 9:39how we have 2 roads before us every day
- 9:43in every decision we make. Is that road going to be a road of fear
- 9:46and safety and comfort and not challenging the old paradigm?
- 9:50Or is that road going to be me as the creator of
- 9:54my destiny, of realizing that I am tapped into limitless
- 9:58potential and limitless power? Those are the voices that
- 10:02we have to decide who we're going to listen to, who we're going
- 10:05to agree with. Please pardon me while I interrupt your podcast episode
- 10:08with a quick message. If you're enjoying today's

- 11:10thing. If you've ever found yourself asking questions like,
- 11:14why am I here? Am I living my purpose? How do
- 11:18I get unstuck in life? How do I take my life
- 11:22to the next level? Then I would love to invite you to schedule a free

- 12:08And now let's get you back to today's episode.
- 12:12Have you ever heard of the story about the elephant in the circus? So you
- 12:16have these elephants, when they're baby elephants, they take a rope and
- 12:20they tie them to a pick in the ground. And so these baby elephants
- 12:23are so small at this point, that rope is really, really tight. They can't
- 12:28get off of that rope. And so they condition themselves that they can
- 12:31go just a certain perimeter around that pick in the ground.
- 12:35They're stuck there. It's their paradigm. It's who they believe
- 12:39themselves to be. But as the elephant grows older,
- 12:42that rope becomes no match for the weight of that elephant.
- 12:46These elephants grow to thousands of pounds, and at any point they
- 12:51could snap that small rope and just run away. But they don't do it because
- 12:55they've been conditioned from a young elephant that they can only walk
- 12:59around the perimeter of that pick. Y'all, the rope is
- 13:02not what's holding the adult elephant back. It is the elephant
- 13:06itself holding himself back. The thief is not the rope.
- 13:11The thief is the belief that they are trapped.
- 13:15The thief is the old labels. The thief is the old failures, the old fears,
- 13:19the old disappointments, the old identities, the old stories.
- 13:23The thief is your past that you say, I failed over and over and
- 13:27over again. So therefore, today I may fail again and tomorrow
- 13:31I may fail. So why try? What would have happened
- 13:34if Nikola Tesla had done that? What would have happened if Thomas Edison had
- 13:38done that? How long before someone else would have discovered the light
- 13:43bulb? How long before someone else would have discovered all of these amazing
- 13:47inventions that we use today? Every one of these
- 13:51old paradigms is asking for one thing, it's asking for
- 13:57your agreement. It's asking for you to say, I can't move because the rope is
- 14:00tied to my ankles. But the moment you withdraw your agreement,
- 14:04the moment you say, I know that I have power within
- 14:07me, the thief loses its power because you gain
- 14:12your authen— your authority. The thief does not leave because you fight harder.
- 14:16The thief leaves because one day he realizes you
- 14:20no longer believe in him. And more importantly, you realize you no
- 14:24longer believe in him. I'd like to leave you with a coaching exercise this
- 14:28week. I want you to take a piece of paper and write down 3
- 14:31sentences that you have heard yourself say over and over and over
- 14:35again in your life. Either I'm not ready, or I'm too old, or I'm
- 14:39too young, or I'm not enough, or people don't like
- 14:43me, or people won't agree with what I'm saying. Whatever your limiting
- 14:46beliefs are, whatever these ropes are,
- 14:50that are tied to your ankles, I want you to ask yourself
- 14:53one question: who would I become if I no longer
- 14:57came into agreement with these questions? Because liberation
- 15:01does not begin when your circumstances change.
- 15:04Liberation begins when your agreements change.
- 15:08The thief loses its power when you stop agreeing with
- 15:12it. The late, great Bob Proctor once said, you are your own problem.
- 15:16But the good news is you are also your own solution.
- 15:20I had the pleasure of meeting Linda Proctor in person a couple
- 15:24of weeks ago. I was speaking in Toronto, Canada. She wrote the foreword
- 15:27for my book, Revolution of Purpose, and she was so gracious.
- 15:31She took an hour and a half and showed me Bob Proctor's studio.
- 15:35I got to see his desk. I got to see the stickman.
- 15:39Bob Proctor is such an amazing inspiration to me,
- 15:42and I can't tell you how many times I have reminded
- 15:46myself, I am my own problem in this, but thank God I am also
- 15:50my own solution because I am tapped into limitless
- 15:54possibilities. I don't have to agree with the thief.
- 15:57I can cut the rope. I don't believe that this means we're broken.
- 16:01I think it means something so much more hopeful. The same mind
- 16:04that learned these limitations can learn a new identity.
- 16:08The same imagination that built the prison can
- 16:12build the freedom. You don't have to become someone else. You simply
- 16:16have to stop believing that you're someone you're not and
- 16:19awaken to who you truly are. Your attention shapes
- 16:23your thinking. Your thinking shapes your identity.
- 16:26Your identity shapes your decisions, and your decisions shape
- 16:31your destiny. So maybe today is not about trying harder.
- 16:34Maybe today is about becoming free,
- 16:38free from the story, Free from the label, free from
- 16:41the fear, free from the rope around your ankles,
- 16:44free from the identity that no longer belongs to you because aligned
- 16:49action is not forcing yourself to act differently.
- 16:53It's finally acting in agreement with who you are deep inside.
- 16:58You know, every great story has a villain and every great story has
- 17:02a hero. Today we've talked about the villain, that thief within, but here's
- 17:06what I don't want you to miss. You're not the thief. Yeah,
- 17:09that thief is within you. That thief is that old paradigm. But you
- 17:14need to awaken to the fact that you, my friends, are the hero. We mistake
- 17:18most of our lives with believing that we're waiting
- 17:22for someone to rescue us. We're waiting for someone to come and change our circumstances
- 17:26or to give us permission to live our goals and our dreams. We're waiting
- 17:30for someone to believe in us. We're waiting for someone to unlock the
- 17:34door to that next level of our life. But the hero of
- 17:37your story is not coming because the hero
- 17:41of your story is already within you and has been inside
- 17:45of you all along. Every time that you choose truth over
- 17:49the lie, you're being the hero. Every time you choose courage
- 17:53over comfort, alignment over familiarity,
- 17:56the hero within you is getting stronger. And that
- 18:01voice from the thief just gets quieter and quieter until
- 18:04one day that thief doesn't leave because you
- 18:08fought harder. It leaves because it realized you no longer
- 18:12believe in him. You're no longer in agreement. So the thief just starts
- 18:16to disappear. And that's when aligned action begins, not because someone
- 18:20motivated you, but because you've been liberated.
- 18:23If today's conversation helped you recognize a thief within
- 18:27you that's been quietly stealing your purpose, your dreams,
- 18:30your hopes, then I would love to help you take the next step. This is
- 18:33exactly why I've created a coaching session called Shift.
