- 2:59In local news, in the tranquil waters of Cape Cod's Mares Pond, a unique group known as
- 3:05the Old Ladies Against Underwater Garbage is making waves in conservation.
- 3:11Comprised solely of women over 65, these underwater garbage ladies engage in underwater cleanups,
- 3:18transforming both the environment and perceptions of aging.
- 3:23Founded by Susan Bauer, a retired psychologist turned environmental activist, the group combines
- 3:29a love for nature with a commitment to community service.
- 3:34Through their efforts, these spirited seniors not only preserve the natural beauty of their
- 3:39local ponds, but also challenge societal views on aging, proving that the golden years can
- 3:45be a time of active, meaningful contribution.
- 3:53Now on to sports.
- 3:55In an unforgettable clash, the Washington Capitals clinched their playoff spot by defeating
- 4:01the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1.
- 4:03Thanks to TJ Aoshi's last-minute, empty net goal.
- 4:08This came after Flyers coach John Tortorella made the bold move to pull his goalie for
- 4:13an extra attacker in a tied game, a strategy that backfired when the Capitals seized the
- 4:19opportunity.
- 4:21Unbeknownst to Tortorella, the Flyers had already been eliminated from playoff contention
- 4:26due to a Detroit goal scored minutes earlier.
- 4:31The Capitals, who have overcome a challenging season, including a significant losing streak,
- 4:36now prepare to face the president's trophy-winning New York Rangers in what promises to be a
- 4:41thrilling first-round playoff series.
- 4:46In local sports, the Red Sox at home beat the Guardians 2-0 on an outstanding pitching
- 4:53performance by Tanner Hawk.
- 4:57He pitched the first complete game of his career, allowing only three kits, while mowing
- 5:02down nine batters on strikes.
- 5:05The Sox have a quick turnaround for Game 4 with the Guardians.
- 5:09Today is a getaway game, with a 1-30 start at Fenway, so the team can skip off to Pittsburgh
- 5:15afterwards.
- 5:18In top news, in San Francisco, seven-way-mo robo-taxis inadvertently blocked traffic leading
- 5:26to the highway.
- 5:28This incident highlights challenges faced as autonomous vehicles integrate into urban
- 5:33environments.
- 5:35Although Waymo is approved to operate without human drivers on freeways, it currently tests
- 5:40with humans on board.
- 5:42The disruption, which lasted about 30 minutes, ended with Waymo's roadside assistants resolving
- 5:48the situation.
- 5:50This event underscores ongoing issues with robo-taxi deployments in city settings, similar
- 5:56to difficulties experienced by GM's crews.
- 6:00Local officials are concerned about access during blockages and the inability to issue
- 6:05traffic citations to driverless cars.
- 6:10In business news, Bitcoin is on the brink of a pivotal halving event expected to occur
- 6:16on April 19 or 20, which could significantly impact its price.
- 6:22This halving will cut the reward for mining new Bitcoins in half, a mechanism designed
- 6:27to control inflation and increase scarcity.
- 6:31Historically, such events have led to a surge in Bitcoin's price due to increased scarcity
- 6:36and heightened investor interest.
- 6:39However, the effect of the halving on Bitcoin's price isn't guaranteed, as external economic
- 6:45factors and market sentiment also play crucial roles.
- 6:50This year's context is unique, with Bitcoin halving peaked at $70,000 before the halving,
- 6:57influenced by the introduction of Bitcoin ATS and varying investor strategies.
- 7:03The upcoming halving will also have profound implications for miners, potentially leading
- 7:08to industry consolidation as rewards diminish.
- 7:12In crypto movement, Bitcoin is just under $62,000.
- 7:18Ethereum is at $3,000.
- 7:21And Solana is $135.
- 7:26Moving on to a more local vibe.

- 8:11And now, back to the show.
- 8:14Let's talk tech.
- 8:17A groundbreaking study published in Nature Neuroscience reveals how different brainwaves,
- 8:23crucial for cognitive functions, originate from specific layers of the brain's cortex.
- 8:30Researchers have discovered that the cortex's outer layers predominantly produce rapid
- 8:34gamma waves associated with processing sensory inputs.
- 8:39Conversely, the deeper layers generate slower alpha and beta waves, which manage how the
- 8:45brain utilizes this sensory data.
- 8:49This pattern was consistently observed across various species and cortical regions, suggesting
- 8:54a fundamental aspect of brain function.
- 8:58This insight could lead to new approaches in treating neuropsychiatric disorders, where
- 9:03imbalances in these brainwaves play a role.
- 9:06For example, schizophrenia is associated with reduced gamma wave activity, potentially linked
- 9:12to specific cells in the cortex's outer layers.
- 9:16This finding opens the door to targeted studies and therapies aimed at addressing such imbalances.
- 9:23And in entertainment news, NBCUniversal is set to transform how the Olympics are broadcasted
- 9:32with the upcoming Paris Games.
- 9:35Recognizing the need to adapt to a diverse and fragmented media landscape, NBCUniversal
- 9:42aims to captivate a wider audience by infusing the coverage with celebrity appearances and
- 9:48varied programming.
- 9:50The traditional primetime broadcast will be revamped into a dynamic variety show featuring
- 9:55stars like Peyton Manning, Snoop Dogg, and Kelly Clarkson, alongside live streaming of
- 10:01every event on Peacock.
- 10:04This strategic shift is designed to enhance your engagement and capitalize on the cultural
- 10:10appeal of Paris, aiming to reinvigorate interest in the Olympics and maximize their substantial
- 10:16investment.
- 10:17Well, alrighty folks, it's time for the quote of the day.
- 10:23And today, our quote comes from Angela Bassett.
- 10:28And the Golden Globe winning actress said, it's important to surround yourself with good
- 10:33people, interesting people, young people, and young ideas.
- 10:38Go places, learn new stuff.
- 10:42Look at the world with wonder.
- 10:44Don't be tired about it.
