- 0:11Hello, friends. It's Sean here.
- 0:13It's a Wednesday. It is the 11th of September, a
- 0:17date, unfortunately, that lives in infamy, 9/11.
- 0:21Yeah, that was what, 23 years ago?
- 0:24Our world changed with that terrible atrocity that went down
- 0:27in the other side of the world. Well, from here, but maybe
- 0:30closer to home for you. I know I've, I've been touched
- 0:33by many stories from that event of people's connection and
- 0:38kindness and bravery and service for each other.
- 0:41And you know what? I think we need to reclaim
- 0:44today's date. And we need to Live Today as
- 0:47though it was a new day filled with possibility.
- 0:50Because here we are living this life, not wanting terror to be
- 0:54able to impact again and again and again just by hearing a day.
- 0:59So I wish you a happy Wednesday today on this the 11th of
- 1:04September. May your day be filled with good
- 1:06things and optimism, hope and love.
- 1:11And well, what a great way to start or wherever you are in
- 1:14your day, by coming together to hear the words of encouragement
- 1:19from the God of the universe who loves you, wants you to know
- 1:23more about his love for you. And that is why we read God's
- 1:28word to discover more about our incredible God.
- 1:32So let us do just that. Let us read together this
- 1:35chapter, Second Corinthians Chapter 7,
- 1:48because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse
- 1:52ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit.
- 1:57Let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.
- 2:02Please open your hearts to us. We have not done wrong to
- 2:06anyone, nor LED anyone astray, nor taken advantage of anyone.
- 2:11I'm not saying this to condemn you.
- 2:13I said before that you are in our hearts and we live or die
- 2:17together with you. I have the highest confidence in
- 2:21you and I take great pride in you.
- 2:24You have greatly encouraged me and made me happy.
- 2:27Despite all our troubles, when we arrived in Macedonia, there
- 2:33was no rest for us. We faced conflict from every
- 2:37direction, with battles on the outside and fear on the inside.
- 2:42But God, who encourages those who were discouraged, encouraged
- 2:46us by the arrival of Titus. His presence was a joy, but so
- 2:51was the news he brought of the encouragement he received from
- 2:54you. When he told us how much you
- 2:57longed to see me and how sorry you are for what happened and
- 3:01how loyal you are to me, I was filled with joy.
- 3:06I'm not sorry that I sent that severe letter to you, though I
- 3:10was sorry at first, for I know it was painful to you for a
- 3:14little while. Now I am glad I sent it, not
- 3:17because it hurt you, but because the pain caused you to repent
- 3:22and change your ways. It was the kind of sorrow God
- 3:26wants His people to have. So you were not harmed by us in
- 3:30any way. For the kind of sorrow God wants
- 3:33us to experience leads us away from sin and results in
- 3:38salvation. There's no regret for that kind
- 3:41of sorrow, but worldly sorrow which lacks repentance results
- 3:46in spiritual death. Just see what this godly sorrow
- 3:51produced in you. Such earnestness, such concern
- 3:55to clear yourselves, such indignation, such alarm, such
- 4:00longing to see me, such zeal and such a readiness to punish
- 4:05wrong. You showed that you have done
- 4:07everything necessary to make things right.
- 4:10My purpose then, was not to write about who did the wrong or
- 4:14who was wronged. I wrote to you so that in the
- 4:18sight of God you could see for yourselves how loyal you are to
- 4:22us. We have been greatly encouraged
- 4:26by this. In addition to our own
- 4:28encouragement, we were especially delighted to see how
- 4:32happy Titus was about the way all of you welcomed him and sent
- 4:37his mind at ease. I told him how proud I was of
- 4:41you and you didn't disappoint me.
- 4:44I have always told you the truth, and now my boasting to
- 4:48Titus has also proved true. Now he cares for you more than
- 4:53ever when he remembers the way all of you obeyed him and
- 4:56welcomed him with such fear and deep respect.
- 5:00I am very happy now because I have complete confidence in you.
- 5:15Oh Lord, what a wonderfully clever God you are.
- 5:19You have created us and this world so intricately and these
- 5:24emotions like sorrow that we would push away and reject as
- 5:28not useful but just unpleasant. Well, You have a greater
- 5:34purpose, that sorrow would convict us of what it is that is
- 5:38wrong in our lives, so that we can turn closer to You, put our
- 5:43sin to death, and live in Your way, Your love and Your
- 5:48forgiveness. So, Holy Spirit, please convict
- 5:53us of those places in our lives, those corners of our hearts,
- 5:57which pull us away from You. May our hearts know clearly
- 6:03through the way we experience them that these are not of You
- 6:07so that we can turn from them, turn back to You and be
- 6:12transformed day in and day out to be more like You.
- 6:18Thank You that You love us and You care enough about us to want
- 6:22to turn us back closer to You. So we ask this through your holy
- 6:28transforming and saving name, Jesus, Amen.
