- 0:00Speaker 1: iHeart podcasts, bring you the ultimate Summer of love Tree.
- 0:04Speaker 1: This is Famously Available. Hey, I'm your host, Ben Higgins,
- 0:08Speaker 1: back with you on Famously Available and we are getting
- 0:11Speaker 1: ready for mercedes jingle Ball blind date. So I think
- 0:16Speaker 1: this is the perfect time for me to bring in
- 0:18Speaker 1: someone that I love, that I trust, I do trust
- 0:24Speaker 1: that I think is one of the best encouragers I've
- 0:27Speaker 1: ever met for me personally, and I believe she can
- 0:30Speaker 1: be an encourager to everyone she's around. She's going to
- 0:35Speaker 1: be my reinforcements tonight, my eyes and ears on the ground.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I'm bringing in no other than Famously Available Gal Kathy Swartz. Kathy, Hello, those.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Are such kind words. Ben. Thanks. I'm glad to be
- 0:48Speaker 2: here and be your.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Spy now tonight. Kathy and Deanna are going to be
- 0:53Speaker 1: my eyes and ears. You're going to be looking out
- 0:56Speaker 1: for Mercedes on this date. Kathy, Okay, I got her.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Will you agree to the terms that I'm offering.
- 1:03Speaker 3: If it's protecting her from life and limb, I'm on it.
- 1:07Speaker 1: You are going to be I mean, Mercedes has a
- 1:11Speaker 1: lot of really close friends going to jingle Ball with
- 1:14Speaker 1: her tonight, which is awesome and so Kathy. Really, what
- 1:19Speaker 1: I want from you and Deanna is to be the
- 1:21Speaker 1: eyes and ears, to be the watchful supporters, sometimes from
- 1:26Speaker 1: a distance and sometimes up close. I need you paying
- 1:30Speaker 1: attention to body language, the conversation that's happening, and how
- 1:35Speaker 1: he mingles with others. Now, Mercedes has already told me,
- 1:38Speaker 1: Kathy that something very attractive to her is when her
- 1:43Speaker 1: dates can mingle with her friends. Well, so we got
- 1:46Speaker 1: to watch for that.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Got it. I'm on it because.
- 1:49Speaker 4: He's coming in because it's like, you know, Katie, Jess,
- 1:52Speaker 4: Gabby's going to be there too. Oh, and we're all
- 1:54Speaker 4: in the same season. So I'm like, it'll be very
- 1:56Speaker 4: telling how he like.
- 1:58Speaker 2: You know, Yeah, can I be his mother? Yes?
- 2:00Speaker 5: You got it?
- 2:01Speaker 2: Girl actually holds doores?
- 2:03Speaker 5: What is that?
- 2:04Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, you can yell at them. I would love
- 2:06Speaker 1: for you to yell at them, Kathy. I would love
- 2:08Speaker 1: for you to be the the antivity, y'all.
- 2:11Speaker 2: I gently encourage.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Okay, fair Mercedes uh talking to Kathy right now, as
- 2:19Speaker 1: she will be the eyes and ears and also kind
- 2:21Speaker 1: of the the spy on the ground, but strategically placed
- 2:25Speaker 1: to also step in when she sees it's necessary and needed.
- 2:29Speaker 1: What are some red flags that Kathy can be looking
- 2:31Speaker 1: out for on this date and paying attention to.
- 2:35Speaker 6: Oh, like in me or him?
- 2:38Speaker 1: I guess both.
- 2:40Speaker 6: You yeah, zero, I don't know.
- 2:44Speaker 4: I feel like sometimes like my body language, you can
- 2:47Speaker 4: tell if I'm like, someone else could come in the conversation,
- 2:50Speaker 4: like maybe it's like it's awkward.
- 2:52Speaker 5: I don't know, so they I don't know. Maybe just
- 2:54Speaker 5: like my body languige.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Okay, what do you do when you're nervous? What'ta be
- 2:58Speaker 3: looking for? What do you do when you're feeling awkward
- 3:00Speaker 3: or nervous?
- 3:01Speaker 5: Laugh a lot?
- 3:02Speaker 4: Like I think like someone will be like say something,
- 3:05Speaker 4: I'll just like laugh just because I feel like that
- 3:07Speaker 4: makes it feel better.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 3:10Speaker 6: So maybe that I don't know.
- 3:11Speaker 3: That's good.
- 3:12Speaker 2: It's good ice breaker. Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 3:15Speaker 5: I don't know other red flags. I don't know what's
- 3:19Speaker 5: his red flag?
- 3:19Speaker 2: What's something that could end this before it gets started?
- 3:22Speaker 6: Ooh maybe?
- 3:23Speaker 4: I mean honestly, what if he gets there and he's like,
- 3:27Speaker 4: you know, mingling doing his things and then doesn't give
- 3:29Speaker 4: me the attention, like doesn't make me feel seen, I'll
- 3:32Speaker 4: have a word with him.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Yeah okay, Yeah.
- 3:34Speaker 4: So that's that's the red flag that you got to
- 3:36Speaker 4: be looking for. Make sure he's giving me attention.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Okay, got it.
- 3:39Speaker 1: I trust Kathy when she says I will have a
- 3:43Speaker 1: word with him, she will make sure this guy is
- 3:46Speaker 1: on the straight note tonight. Now, Kathy, I need you
- 3:48Speaker 1: to be slick like this is not an upfront like
- 3:52Speaker 1: he doesn't need to know that. I've asked this of
- 3:54Speaker 1: you and Deanna, but I need you to be slick.
- 3:58Speaker 1: And I also, if you can, would you text me
- 4:02Speaker 1: some pictures? Does it have to be the two of
- 4:05Speaker 1: them together, even just some pictures and updates as the
- 4:08Speaker 1: night goes on. Absolutely, I appreciate that. And you know
- 4:13Speaker 1: we're gonna be strategically talking through the night about how
- 4:16Speaker 1: things are going now. I think the two of you,
- 4:20Speaker 1: because we have the ability to set this up beforehand,
- 4:23Speaker 1: need a code word. So Mercedes, when you need Deanna
- 4:27Speaker 1: or Kathy to step in, I think a code word
- 4:30Speaker 1: would be really helpful, helpful or necessary, good or bad?
- 4:36Speaker 1: Like she maybe you just need a break and you
- 4:38Speaker 1: need somebody to distract him for a bit.
- 4:40Speaker 5: Yeah, that code word, Bell.
- 4:42Speaker 2: I don't know what what comes to mind for you.
- 4:44Speaker 2: It's got to be something that you feel comfortable utter ring.
- 4:48Speaker 5: I don't know. I'm not good with coming up with
- 4:50Speaker 5: stuff like this.
- 4:52Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I got it's not a code word, But Mercedes, I
- 4:58Speaker 1: think you need to give Kathy a very clear wink
- 5:01Speaker 1: when you need it, like just a nice little wink,
- 5:04Speaker 1: because that can come off as you're just saying hey
- 5:06Speaker 1: to Kathy or I'm saying hey, Kathy, Deanna, I need
- 5:10Speaker 1: you to step in right now. But a nice wink
- 5:13Speaker 1: is just a really kind you.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Do.
- 5:31Speaker 1: So this this is going to be a ton of
- 5:34Speaker 1: fun and it is an event whether it's loud and
- 5:36Speaker 1: there's a lot of people. Kathy, obviously you and Deanna
- 5:40Speaker 1: are also participating with us in this whole experience when
- 5:45Speaker 1: it comes to a first date. Kathy, Uh, what is
- 5:49Speaker 1: your advice for Mercedes as she walks into these type
- 5:53Speaker 1: of scenarios.
- 5:53Speaker 3: You mean specifically tonight, I think tonight's a good Yeah.
- 5:57Speaker 1: In general, I think it's.
- 5:58Speaker 3: Going to be a little different because there's it's going
- 6:00Speaker 3: to be so many people there and loud. So if
- 6:04Speaker 3: I were him, I'd probably be saying, hey, do you
- 6:07Speaker 3: want to just step out in the hallway and just
- 6:08Speaker 3: talk for a few minutes. I would do that if
- 6:11Speaker 3: I were you, because otherwise, you know, you're just not
- 6:13Speaker 3: going to be able to necessarily hear what you say.
- 6:16Speaker 6: Yeah, it'll be like chaotic too long.
- 6:18Speaker 3: You know, you just just long enough to see if
- 6:21Speaker 3: he deserves a second date.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Yeah, tonight will be a hard place to have, Like
- 6:38Speaker 1: it's a fun place to have a first day, I think,
- 6:40Speaker 1: but it will be a hard place to have too
- 6:42Speaker 1: high expectations of how much you're going to get to
- 6:44Speaker 1: know about this guy because it is loud.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Come on, let's be honest.
- 6:48Speaker 3: When you see someone and you look him in the
- 6:51Speaker 3: eye and you see his smile and how he's dressed
- 6:54Speaker 3: and what he looks like, you're going to know whether
- 6:56Speaker 3: you would really rather listen to the music or talk right.
- 7:00Speaker 6: Yeah, very true.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Yeah, the two of you have met how many times
- 7:04Speaker 1: previous to this?
- 7:05Speaker 3: Just once before at Katie, Katy and Zach's wedding party.
- 7:10Speaker 1: At Katie and Zach's party.
- 7:11Speaker 6: Last week was very recent.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Yeah, Mercedes, I probably should have asked for your consent
- 7:17Speaker 1: before I asked Kathy to be your wing woman at
- 7:20Speaker 1: this then are yes?
- 7:23Speaker 6: One hundreds?
- 7:24Speaker 3: She is gorgeous and listen to any guy that doesn't
- 7:28Speaker 3: just say, how did I get so lucky? Unless he
- 7:32Speaker 3: decides he wants a cougar, in which case you're out,
- 7:35Speaker 3: in which case, which in which case this experiment is over.
- 7:42Speaker 3: That does lead me to a question, Kathy, for you. Obviously,
- 7:45Speaker 3: you and Deanna are going to be there tonight, taking
- 7:47Speaker 3: part in everything going on and having a blast. But
- 7:51Speaker 3: will the two of you be keeping your eyes open
- 7:53Speaker 3: for yourselves you think at this event?
- 7:55Speaker 2: Does that really require an answer that?
- 7:58Speaker 1: Yeah, he does.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Answer, But yes, always, I always have one eye in
- 8:03Speaker 3: the present and one eye.
- 8:04Speaker 2: In the future.
- 8:06Speaker 5: Love that.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I think it's interesting, Kathy to be in the position
- 8:11Speaker 1: you are with Mercedes. You guys have different tastes. Everybody does.
- 8:16Speaker 1: But is there anything specific that you would be looking
- 8:19Speaker 1: out for, Kathy from a distance when it comes to
- 8:22Speaker 1: this guy that would maybe bring you a red flag?
- 8:27Speaker 2: Well, Mercedes said it.
- 8:29Speaker 3: If he is not looking at you and trying to
- 8:32Speaker 3: cultivate a relationship as best he can, if he's really busy,
- 8:36Speaker 3: for example, talking to the other single girls and not
- 8:39Speaker 3: spending time with you, that is a crimson waving red flag. Yes,
- 8:44Speaker 3: he better be devoting his time and attention to you.
- 8:47Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Well, and me, it'd be nice if you could listen
- 8:52Speaker 1: to this because it is very simple tonight. There's not
- 8:56Speaker 1: a lot of like hoops and things you have to do.
- 8:58Speaker 1: All you have to do is just give, you know,
- 9:00Speaker 1: to be curious about Mercedes, give her attention to see
- 9:04Speaker 1: where this can go. There's nothing else. And if he doesn't,
- 9:08Speaker 1: I would say that is a red flag.
- 9:10Speaker 5: Absolutely I would agree with that too.
- 9:12Speaker 2: And I would say it's here's your hat, what's your hurry.
- 9:18Speaker 1: I hope you do, Kathy. I hope you don't have
- 9:20Speaker 1: to do that, but I hope you would if that's
- 9:22Speaker 1: the scenario that you get placed in tonight. I can't
- 9:25Speaker 1: wait to hear how this all goes. It's going to
- 9:27Speaker 1: be absolutely fantastic, Kathy. Before we close out, though, is
- 9:32Speaker 1: there any updates on your love life as we talk?
- 9:37Speaker 2: Not really.
- 9:38Speaker 3: I mean I met a guy I think I talked
- 9:40Speaker 3: to you about him, and it just it didn't He
- 9:44Speaker 3: kind of went for the local girl, nice guy, but
- 9:49Speaker 3: he decided Texas was a little too far away for him.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Is long distance now, Mercedes? Kind of in the back
- 9:54Speaker 1: of your mind after Boston?
- 9:56Speaker 6: Man, is it in the back of my mind?
- 9:59Speaker 1: Yeah? Is it something that could be a problem for
- 10:00Speaker 1: you or are you still open to it.
- 10:02Speaker 4: I'm still very open to it. I feel like it
- 10:05Speaker 4: doesn't matter where you are. If you like each other,
- 10:07Speaker 4: you're going to make it work. Yeah, it doesn't matter.
- 10:09Speaker 2: You find a way.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Yeah, And because like because that was the same thing
- 10:12Speaker 4: with Boston, Like he was like, oh the distance. But
- 10:14Speaker 4: I'm like, okay, so you just like you weren't willing
- 10:17Speaker 4: to make it work. We could have, but you didn't
- 10:19Speaker 4: want to. And that's fine.
- 10:19Speaker 6: Yeah, So like that's fun.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Well, you know, you figured out as far as I'm concerned.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Nice guy. But he didn't waste my time.
- 10:26Speaker 6: I didn't waste his exactly. I that was one thing too.
- 10:29Speaker 4: I think to him, I'm like, thank you for like
- 10:30Speaker 4: doing this now rather than in six months when we're like,
- 10:33Speaker 4: you know, deeper or whatever.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Although I will say, being from Boston myself, you would
- 10:38Speaker 3: love the city.
- 10:39Speaker 2: I know.
- 10:39Speaker 4: I went there one time and I fell in love
- 10:41Speaker 4: with it. I want to go back. But I'm like,
- 10:43Speaker 4: not for him, yeah, no, by myself.
- 10:47Speaker 1: This is going to be a night full of stories
- 10:49Speaker 1: and we're going to be recapping him all here at
- 10:52Speaker 1: Famously Available. I cannot wait for Kathy and Deanna to
- 10:55Speaker 1: be the slick little supporters from the South on Mercedes Date.
- 11:02Speaker 1: We'll be introducing Mercedes to her date tonight on the podcast,
- 11:08Speaker 1: so make sure you tune in for that. These episodes
- 11:11Speaker 1: will be coming out very very soon, and of course

- 11:17Speaker 1: get all the details with all the parties that are involved. Mercedes,
- 11:25Speaker 1: you just found out that you're meeting him on the podcast.
- 11:28Speaker 1: How does that make you feel?
- 11:29Speaker 3: Now?
- 11:29Speaker 6: I'm nervous.
- 11:31Speaker 4: I don't know why that made me more nervous than
- 11:33Speaker 4: just like at iHeart or at the jingle bell.
- 11:36Speaker 6: But it'll be fine, It'll be great.
- 11:38Speaker 1: It's gonna be awesome. You are fantastic, Mercedes. You catch
- 11:43Speaker 1: in a half. You guys go in, you know, stand
- 11:47Speaker 1: tall and just enjoy an evening, because goodness gracious, I
- 11:52Speaker 1: have a feeling that that guy is going to be like,
- 11:54Speaker 1: how did I get so lucky?
- 11:56Speaker 2: How did I get it'd be smart? That's exactly what
- 11:59Speaker 2: he's gonna.
- 12:00Speaker 1: You're If he doesn't, then he's not smart and you
- 12:03Speaker 1: don't need him.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Anyways.
