- 0:04Speaker 1: one WASH.
- 0:04Speaker 2: That welcome to Wednesday Morning Toby and Chilly in the Morning.
- 0:08Speaker 2: It's ninety seven point one wash che FM. So the
- 0:11Speaker 2: question is, why are you feeling good this morning before
- 0:15Speaker 2: five o'clock in the morning. I know it's early, but
- 0:18Speaker 2: you know what, there's always a reason to feel good
- 0:20Speaker 2: this early in the morning.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Chili, I'm feeling good. It is tax day. Okay, that's
- 0:23Speaker 3: not necessarily why I'm feeling good. I'm feeling good because
- 0:26Speaker 3: we filed a couple months ago and we already got
- 0:30Speaker 3: our return or refund. So I'm glad and I'm feeling
- 0:34Speaker 3: good that I'm not stressing about getting it in just
- 0:37Speaker 3: under the wire or having to file an extension. So
- 0:40Speaker 3: I'll stick with that for my reason today.
- 0:42Speaker 2: No stress on this tax day. Just handle your business. Really,
- 0:46Speaker 2: you don't need to let it bug you. I mean,
- 0:48Speaker 2: they have so many ways to help, so many online tools.
- 0:52Speaker 2: It's still stressful because so many things.
- 0:54Speaker 3: It's just a lot of number crunching, and if you
- 0:56Speaker 3: don't like numbers, it ain't so good.
- 0:57Speaker 2: And you have to keep track of a lot of
- 0:59Speaker 2: different yeah good, yeah, which is one of the reasons
- 1:02Speaker 2: why I'm very happy today. I'm happy because I kind
- 1:05Speaker 2: of have almost finished kind of reorganizing my home office
- 1:10Speaker 2: space and home studio.
- 1:11Speaker 4: That's good.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I just decided that I wanted to get to work
- 1:14Speaker 2: on some things. I'm trying to decide if I want
- 1:17Speaker 2: to hang a new art up or if I want
- 1:20Speaker 2: to just leave it as like this black soundproof stuff
- 1:22Speaker 2: on the wall.
- 1:23Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:24Speaker 2: It's all temporary anyway, because it's an apartment. You know,
- 1:27Speaker 2: it's not forever for twenty years. But you know what, Yeah,
- 1:30Speaker 2: that's true.
- 1:31Speaker 4: It is been there a minute.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Yeah, two thousand and six. Oh look at the date.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Yeah wow. But you know what, Hey got my health
- 1:41Speaker 2: and it's baby steps toward getting it better organized in
- 1:45Speaker 2: my ADHD mind of chaos. Why are you feeling good?
- 1:49Speaker 2: Eight six six nine two seven forty three sixty one
- 1:51Speaker 2: is our number. Use it whenever this morning. You can

- 2:17Speaker 3: The US reportedly wants another round of in person talks
- 2:21Speaker 3: with Iran. The President said something could be happening in
- 2:24Speaker 3: Pakistan in the next day or two. And this all
- 2:27Speaker 3: comes as the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuse
- 2:29Speaker 3: is now in its third day. Ten people have been
- 2:32Speaker 3: arrested in Fairfax County after an undercover sting targeting individuals
- 2:36Speaker 3: who are seeking to engage in sexual activity with minors.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Authority say the operation was part of an ongoing effort
- 2:43Speaker 3: to identify and stop child exploitation. Virginia has officially decriminalized
- 2:49Speaker 3: suicide after Governor Abigail Spanberger signed a bill ending its
- 2:54Speaker 3: long standing status as a common law crime. The change
- 2:57Speaker 3: comes ten years after the death of a Fairfax came firefighter,
- 3:01Speaker 3: with supporters saying that it helps shift the focus from
- 3:04Speaker 3: punishment to mental health support. Maryland lawmakers have rejected Governor
- 3:09Speaker 3: Wes Moore's effort to redraw the state's congressional map, dealing
- 3:13Speaker 3: a setback to his push to boost democratic representation. The
- 3:17Speaker 3: proposals stalled in the state Senate over concerns that it
- 3:20Speaker 3: could face legal challenges and potentially backfire, while the Potomac
- 3:25Speaker 3: River has been ranked the most endangered river in the
- 3:29Speaker 3: country on a new list from American Rivers. The report
- 3:33Speaker 3: cites threats like pollution, a recent sewage spill, and the
- 3:38Speaker 3: rapid growth of data centers that could impact drinking water
- 3:41Speaker 3: for millions in the DC area. And Yugov's Best Bites
- 3:46Speaker 3: report shows that thirty percent of Americans by fast food
- 3:49Speaker 3: every single week. The survey ranks five guys as the
- 3:52Speaker 3: best for burgers, Pizza Hut for pizza, Taco Bell for
- 3:56Speaker 3: taco's and burritos, and McDonald's for fries as the top favorite.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Forecast for today sunny and hot. Hei's near ninety three

- 4:31Speaker 2: this brand new day, and we will share that time
- 4:34Speaker 2: together coming up in just a few time now for
- 4:38Speaker 2: us to take a moment together to talk about how
- 4:41Speaker 2: you're doing and maybe you find something that can help
- 4:44Speaker 2: all of us. It's your Morning Mindset ninety seven point
- 4:47Speaker 2: one WASHFM and it works like this.
- 4:49Speaker 3: We share a quote to get you into a good headspace,
- 4:52Speaker 3: something for you to think about as you take on
- 4:54Speaker 3: the rest of your workday.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Courtney Carver reminds us that you don't have to do
- 4:58Speaker 2: everything today. Boy, that used to be one of the
- 5:02Speaker 2: toughest things for me to overcome. Courtney Carver says, you
- 5:07Speaker 2: don't have to do everything today, and you don't release
- 5:11Speaker 2: the pressure, focus on what matters most, balance the signal
- 5:15Speaker 2: to noise. You'll be fine. You don't have to do
- 5:19Speaker 2: everything today, you don't and take care of you in
- 5:23Speaker 2: the process. That is your morning mindset on this Wednesday.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Hopefully it helps, and if it does, share it with
- 5:29Speaker 2: somebody who might need it just like you did. You'll
- 5:32Speaker 2: find it on our insta the Toobyan Chilipage WASHFM Dot
- 5:36Speaker 2: com or just hit us with an email.
- 5:38Speaker 6: We'd be happy to send it your way.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Stay right there, because coming up in just a few
- 5:41Speaker 2: minutes here on ninety seven point one WASHFM.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Americans apparently have a magic number in mind for how
- 5:47Speaker 3: much they need to have in savings to retire in
- 5:50Speaker 3: reasonable comfort. Think about what that number is and you
- 5:54Speaker 3: may be surprised to find the actual answer.
- 5:57Speaker 4: Right, we'll share that with you coming up in just
- 5:58Speaker 4: a few minutes.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Dreams versus reality, it's ninety seven point one wash FM.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Retirement might be a dream for some people. For some
- 6:07Speaker 2: people it might be closer to becoming a reality than
- 6:09Speaker 2: we realize. But apparently, according to this here at ninety
- 6:13Speaker 2: seven point one WASHEFM with Toby and Chilly in the morning,
- 6:15Speaker 2: Americans have a magic number in mind because when they retire,
- 6:20Speaker 2: they want to be able to live comfortably.
- 6:22Speaker 3: And there's a number that they think they should have
- 6:24Speaker 3: in savings, and that is one point two six million dollars,
- 6:28Speaker 3: actually one point four to six million, Okay, so let's
- 6:31Speaker 3: say one point five just round it up. Okay, So
- 6:33Speaker 3: do you think having a million and a half dollars
- 6:36Speaker 3: in savings would help you to retire comfortably when you
- 6:39Speaker 3: get to that.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Point, given the way we've seen cost of living jump
- 6:44Speaker 2: through the roof over the last like say, six months
- 6:46Speaker 2: and stuff and whatnot.
- 6:48Speaker 3: No, well, I think if we're living in the DC area,
- 6:51Speaker 3: I agree with you. I think, if we're sixty something
- 6:53Speaker 3: years old, Yeah, and we have a million and a
- 6:56Speaker 3: half dollars in the bank, right, God willing will live
- 6:59Speaker 3: another twenty years right into our eightiesd hope. I don't
- 7:01Speaker 3: know that a million and a half is going to
- 7:03Speaker 3: be enough to get us twenty years of living, and
- 7:06Speaker 3: that living includes random things that we still have to
- 7:09Speaker 3: pay for.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Yeah, Like they say you need forty eight hundred dollars
- 7:12Speaker 2: per month in retirement income in this little blurb, Yeah,
- 7:16Speaker 2: the article. I just don't know if I do the
- 7:19Speaker 2: math on that. Around here, that's way too low. Forty
- 7:22Speaker 2: eight hundred dollars would leave you no money for anything
- 7:24Speaker 2: else around here.
- 7:25Speaker 6: Let's just be honest. It's expensive.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Yeah, even if you own your home just all right, Right,
- 7:30Speaker 3: you've got to pay taxes on it. You potentially have
- 7:32Speaker 3: a vehicle that has insurance. Yeah, I think things add.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Up, sure, No, and you never know when something might
- 7:37Speaker 2: go wrong with the house. I was actually just talking
- 7:39Speaker 2: with my parents about this the other day. You know,
- 7:42Speaker 2: you can't prepare for some things. You just have to
- 7:45Speaker 2: roll with them. But that is a big, big, staggering number,
- 7:49Speaker 2: one point five million dollars.
- 7:51Speaker 4: I think i'd feel better with three mil.
- 7:53Speaker 6: Three go big five. I'd be all right with you.
- 7:56Speaker 4: I don't know how. I'll never retire, That's never gonna happen.
- 8:01Speaker 4: I'm never gonna have that much money and save it.
- 8:03Speaker 2: I'd be oh God bless if i could find a
- 8:06Speaker 2: lottery ticket or maybe a powerball kind of a situation.
- 8:09Speaker 6: Seriously, Anyway, if you want to read more.
- 8:11Speaker 2: You can check it out the Tobya Chilli page washfm

- 9:33Speaker 3: all comes as the naval blockade of the Strait of
- 9:36Speaker 3: horm Moose is in its third day. Lawmaker is pushing
- 9:40Speaker 3: new aviation safety reforms after that deadly midair collision near
- 9:45Speaker 3: Reagan National Airport last year. The proposed Rotor Act would
- 9:49Speaker 3: require improved tracking, coordination, and collision avoidance technology to prevent
- 9:55Speaker 3: similar crashes. The Prince George's County Police Department is holding
- 10:00Speaker 3: a hiring blitz this Saturday to speed up its typically
- 10:04Speaker 3: months long recruitment process. The police chief says that the
- 10:08Speaker 3: one day event could cut hiring time from up to
- 10:11Speaker 3: six months down to about two to three months by
- 10:14Speaker 3: combining tests and interviews. Demolition of the former Lake Forest
- 10:18Speaker 3: Mall in Gaithersburg is now underway, marking the start of
- 10:21Speaker 3: a massive one point two billion dollar redevelopment project. The
- 10:26Speaker 3: site will be transformed into a mixed use community with housing, retail,
- 10:30Speaker 3: and green space. Governor Wes Moore signed a bill that
- 10:34Speaker 3: names the extinct Megalodon Maryland's official state shark. That's the
- 10:40Speaker 3: first time that's happened in the US. The move highlights
- 10:44Speaker 3: fossils that are found across the state and will take
- 10:47Speaker 3: effect October first. And Taylor Swift leads the American Music
- 10:51Speaker 3: Awards with eight nominations, adding to her record forty career wins.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Dean Somber, and Morgan Wallen follow with
- 11:00Speaker 3: seven nods each, and Lady Gaga and Alex Warren half six.
- 11:05Speaker 3: The show will air May twenty fifth from Vegas, on
- 11:08Speaker 3: CBS and it's going to be hosted by Queen Latifa.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Forecast today sunny skuys High's near ninety three right now
- 11:15Speaker 3: sixty six in Vienna.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Not is the news top stories at the top of
- 11:19Speaker 2: the hour, it is ninety seven point one wash FM
- 11:22Speaker 2: eight six six nine two seven forty three sixty one.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Give us a call because next we want to get
- 11:28Speaker 2: into this coming out of Massachusetts. Maybe you've heard that
- 11:31Speaker 2: lawmakers up in mass they've passed a bill that bans
- 11:35Speaker 2: kids under fourteen from using social media. A fan of
- 11:41Speaker 2: this ban thoughts phones are wide open. Now we'll tell
- 11:45Speaker 2: you what went into the story, what went into this decision,
- 11:48Speaker 2: and of course we've got to hear from you, and
- 11:51Speaker 2: we will. Coming up ninety seven point one WASHFM is
- 11:55Speaker 2: where you get Washington's variety of the eighties, nineties and
- 11:57Speaker 2: today with us Toby and Chile and the and we'd
- 12:00Speaker 2: love to hear from you at eight sixty six nine
- 12:02Speaker 2: two seven forty three sixty one. Is we get into
- 12:05Speaker 2: this law from Massachusetts that has everything to do with
- 12:09Speaker 2: social media.
- 12:10Speaker 3: The bill that they just passed bands kids under the
- 12:14Speaker 3: age of fourteen from using social media and requires parental
- 12:17Speaker 3: consent for teams fourteen and fifteen. Now your daughter is
- 12:21Speaker 3: an adult just way past this age. My son is twelve.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Do you think this is a good idea?
- 12:27Speaker 2: Absolutely, because I remember back to when all of the
- 12:31Speaker 2: kids were using smartphones, and I know that it caused
- 12:34Speaker 2: some damage. There are things that are said, things that
- 12:37Speaker 2: are posted, things that are typed.
- 12:39Speaker 6: You know.
- 12:39Speaker 2: They they can be very painful at times, sure for
- 12:44Speaker 2: people who aren't used to going through that, and that
- 12:46Speaker 2: requires maturity, yeah, to be able to deal with those
- 12:49Speaker 2: emotions and process those emotions. And I don't know that
- 12:52Speaker 2: you can argue to me that you have that at
- 12:54Speaker 2: fourteen or fifteen.
- 12:55Speaker 3: I would say that I would love a band for
- 12:57Speaker 3: the age to be higher really like eighteen. Nobody under
- 13:01Speaker 3: the age of eighteen should be on social media because
- 13:05Speaker 3: to your point, I just don't think that they have
- 13:08Speaker 3: the maturity. And also it's addictive, like this is a
- 13:10Speaker 3: dangerous thing that they're finding for kids, the bullying that
- 13:13Speaker 3: takes place. So not only am I a fan of this,
- 13:16Speaker 3: I do wish the age would be higher.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Ben and Oxen Hill, you've heard us talking about this
- 13:21Speaker 2: new Massachusetts law man. The youngins from social media think
- 13:25Speaker 2: it's a good idea.
- 13:26Speaker 6: I don't think so. I think the parents should be
- 13:28Speaker 6: even regulate that.
- 13:28Speaker 7: I think the parents should be able to be responsible
- 13:31Speaker 7: as to regulate that and let them let their child.
- 13:32Speaker 6: Know, Hey, you can't use as much social media.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Yeah, it sounds like you don't want other people telling
- 13:36Speaker 3: you how to raise your kid.
- 13:37Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly, that's fair.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Ben, Thank you for jumping into the conversation. So what
- 13:42Speaker 2: do you think about this new Massachusetts law? Let us
- 13:45Speaker 2: know we're talking about it this morning and we'll get
- 13:47Speaker 2: back to our conversation together coming up in minutes with
- 13:50Speaker 2: Toby and Chilly in the morning. Toby at Chilly in
- 13:53Speaker 2: the morning at eight six, six, nine two seven forty
- 13:55Speaker 2: three sixty one. This it's ninety seven point one wash
- 13:58Speaker 2: FM talking about a massachuse. That's it's law that just
- 14:01Speaker 2: made its way through the mass legislature and it involves
- 14:05Speaker 2: our kids and social.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Media, basically banning kids under the age of fourteen from
- 14:10Speaker 3: using social media and then needing parental consent for fourteen
- 14:14Speaker 3: and fifteen year olds.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Everybody seems to have an opinion this morning. If you
- 14:17Speaker 2: want to chime in, feel free to do so. Good
- 14:20Speaker 2: morning in Brookville, Mimi, what do you think on board?
- 14:24Speaker 8: I don't know why we haven't done this sooner, because
- 14:26Speaker 8: social media is ruining these kids.
- 14:27Speaker 9: Cell phoneses are ruining these kids.
- 14:30Speaker 4: Get them out, what do you mean, get them out, get.
- 14:31Speaker 9: Them out of school, get them off social media, get
- 14:34Speaker 9: them outside and playing.
- 14:35Speaker 5: Well.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Couldn't agree with you more. Thanks for sharing that, Mimi,
- 14:38Speaker 3: and have.
- 14:38Speaker 2: A good morning in Brookville. Let's say hi to Amanda
- 14:41Speaker 2: in Sterling, Virginia.
- 14:43Speaker 6: What do you think?
- 14:44Speaker 4: I'm one hundred percent for it. I mean, thank god.
- 14:46Speaker 4: When I was fourteen, I wasn't able to be on
- 14:48Speaker 4: social media. I mean it seems like a horrible idea.
- 14:51Speaker 4: And how so they're trolls and they're bullies and they're
- 14:54Speaker 4: like gonna like really s them up.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Well, that is definitely one way to put it there, Amanda.
- 15:00Speaker 2: I'm so true, And thank you for jumping in this morning.

- 19:22Speaker 8: I have a bunch, but it's other people that are

- 19:35Speaker 3: Yeah, So you're saying nearly a third of people still
- 19:38Speaker 3: use their excess streaming account password. Absolutely, you're gonna have
- 19:42Speaker 3: to change that password if you do break up.
- 19:45Speaker 6: Yeah, yes, I will.
- 19:46Speaker 4: That's a great guess. It's also the correct answer.

- 20:23Speaker 2: to talk about this.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Phil called us to tell us about an issue that
- 20:27Speaker 3: he's having with his daughter's upcoming prom.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Maybe we can all help him out. We'll find out
- 20:31Speaker 2: what his dilemma is in minutes stay with us. One
- 20:35Speaker 2: of the greatest things about this job at times here
- 20:37Speaker 2: at ninety seven point one wash FM with Toby and
- 20:40Speaker 2: Chilly in the morning, at least to me and I
- 20:41Speaker 2: think maybe for you too, Chilly, is that there are
- 20:44Speaker 2: times when people come to us for advice. They ask
- 20:47Speaker 2: if we can, you know, pull the class as it were,
- 20:49Speaker 2: and see what they would say about certain situations you
- 20:52Speaker 2: might find yourself in.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Phil, thanks so much for listening to us in Arlington.
- 20:57Speaker 3: So it says you're a girl. Dad, What's going on?
- 20:59Speaker 7: So I've got a teenage daughter and I'm kind of
- 21:04Speaker 7: in a pickle because she's got this boyfriend and like
- 21:07Speaker 7: I don't like him, Like he's sloppy, he doesn't have
- 21:10Speaker 7: a job, like you know, he's like I just don't
- 21:13Speaker 7: like the dude. And it feels like the more that
- 21:15Speaker 7: I tell her that I don't like him, the more
- 21:18Speaker 7: like she kind of gets attached to him and wants
- 21:20Speaker 7: to be with him. Even more recently she asked me,
- 21:23Speaker 7: she was like, hey, could you pay for his tucks
- 21:27Speaker 7: and for his ticket to prom? And so I'm torn
- 21:29Speaker 7: because like I don't like the dude, but at the
- 21:31Speaker 7: same time, like this is the only problem she's going
- 21:34Speaker 7: to get, and I don't want to like ruin that
- 21:36Speaker 7: special night for her. So like, you know, I just
- 21:40Speaker 7: don't know what to do.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Well, maybe we should get the advice of those who
- 21:44Speaker 2: are listening to us right now at ninety seven point
- 21:46Speaker 2: one wash FM eight six six nine two seven forty
- 21:49Speaker 2: three sixty one, because I don't know, it sounds to
- 21:51Speaker 2: me like this guy could be taking advantage of you
- 21:54Speaker 2: and your daughter. I just I feel some sort of
- 21:56Speaker 2: way I don't know if I like.
- 21:57Speaker 3: It, even if I don't like the guy, I don't
- 21:59Speaker 3: want it to I've my child of having a fun
- 22:02Speaker 3: prom as much as I don't like it, So I
- 22:04Speaker 3: would probably just bite the bullet, pay for it, and
- 22:07Speaker 3: hope they break up down the road.
- 22:10Speaker 8: Right.
- 22:10Speaker 2: But I think what you have to ask yourself is,
- 22:12Speaker 2: in the long run, is this better just because she's happy?
- 22:16Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 22:16Speaker 7: See that, That's kind of what I'm taling about.
- 22:18Speaker 8: Pill.
