Transcript
- 0:00All right, here's Andreas Kisser from Sepultura bras you it's beautiful. Andrea's thanks
- 0:07to join us today. Thank you man, pleasure. Okay, Delta will
- 0:13be an Australia is saying as part of Good Thing Is twenty twenty three,
- 0:16which kicks off in Melbourne of December the first, then H's Sydney Die After
- 0:20and finishes in prison on December thirds not far away, bry Are you packed
- 0:24and ready to go? Yeah? Man, excited. You know it's been
- 0:29since twenty eighteen. We we're not we don't come back to Australia, you
- 0:34know, the lockdown delayed everything by two years, and now we finally have
- 0:39this chance to play our new album not only at the festival, which is
- 0:43amazing, you know, like a very diverse lineup and very glad to be
- 0:47a part of it, but also our side shows. You know that we
- 0:50can play a larger, you know, longer set list with more songs and
- 0:55et cetera. It's gonna be a great way to close this amazing year for
- 1:00us, you know, fantastic. You mentioned the dog sled up My Life.
- 1:03It's got bands everywhere from Boy and olymp Biscuit, Davia Arbam, Valentine,
- 1:10tore Tala Behamoth Like, is is there anyone on there that you haven't
- 1:12played with before? Well, good question. I don't think we ever played
- 1:19with fall Out Boy or Devo, and we did play with Limp Biscuit and
- 1:26and Behemoth and uh with Corey Taylor. No, we played with Slip not
- 1:30a few times, but not with his project, and it would be great.
- 1:36I mean, to play festivals like that, it's awesome to play with
- 1:40people that never seen Sepultur, you know, I was not expecting to see
- 1:44us, and it's great. Also the backstage, you know, to meet
- 1:48to to to see new friends and old friends and stuff. You know,
- 1:53it's amazing atmosphere. And it's the first time we're doing a festival in Australia
- 1:57like that, you know, so it's really exciting. Yeah, I gotta
- 2:00mention that like backstage, the feeling it'd be, it'd be like a family
- 2:04reunion in some respects for you guys. He's also of made up from all
- 2:07over the world and get to catch up. Yeah, that's one of the
- 2:09best things about festival is it's not only the bands, but you know,
- 2:14grow people that we know around the world and friends that we made in Australia
- 2:20that you know, our following Sepultur for so many years, and uh,
- 2:23it's it's a great atmosphere that who knows some collaborations can you know happened?
- 2:30The ideas and stuff, and it's it's great. It's very fertile, you
- 2:37know, situations really to know people and to meet your idols and et cetera.
- 2:43You know, it's it's great. So I can wait really to to
- 2:46be there, you know soon. Have you touched on it a little bit?
- 2:51Bright? But you guys are making your way out here. All you
- 2:53have performed and such studying free Mail on November the twenty sixth, I think
- 2:58an Adelaide in Melbourne and you play you a lot the tour in Brisbane on
- 3:00the seventh and four. So what are fans of the side shows? Can
- 3:04you get that you might not be able to do it the festival shows.
- 3:07Yeah, festival shows we have like a shorter time, I don't know,
- 3:13around forty forty five minutes or so something like that. And on the side
- 3:16shows we have our headline show, you know, so we we can play
- 3:20our complete show the way we are presenting everywhere in the world, you know,
- 3:23and so we have a little more time to play newer and older songs
- 3:29of course, you know. So it's gonna be a more complete set list
- 3:34for the fans. But on the festival we're gonna represent of course, the
- 3:38whole history. We're gonna play new songs and a few classics, and it's
- 3:45gonna be very well represented what tapp Tour is all about. And we're very
- 3:50accustomed to do that, you know, especially in Europe when we do the
- 3:53festival run, we have like all types of different set times and stuff,
- 3:58so we're very were accustomed to build. We have like kind of a spine,
- 4:02you know, of the sett list that we are changing according to our
- 4:05limitations. But we're prepared. It's going to be a beautiful celebration for sure.
- 4:14Decider, Like, you haven't been Atlustra since threeenty and eighteen, So
- 4:17what's changed with the band since last time here? Area? Wow? I
- 4:23mean, uh, I think we're better. I mean, uh, you
- 4:28know, we have a better album in my concert Quadra. It's actually it's
- 4:31a continuation for Machine Messiah. You know. The Machine Messiah was an amazing
- 4:35tour, an amazing album that really opened new doors for Sepultura and Quadra was
- 4:42one of them of those doors you know that we were inspired by to continue
- 4:47some ideas that we didn't finish on Machine Messiah. We used the same producer,
- 4:51the same studio, Gains Bogren in Sweden, stuff, you know.
- 4:55So uh, it was a very natural, you know, evolution of everything.
- 5:01So it's it's a very special album for us that we're very happy,
- 5:08you know that finally we're here able to present it live, you know.
- 5:14Ye. Now I want to go back in time a bit, right if
- 5:15we kind of like back to nineteen eighty seven when you first joined the band.
- 5:18Like I was talking with the boys that I'm here with this morning,
- 5:21and I mentioned the story of how you started as a writing for Match and
- 5:25then got into the band, Like I've never heard that before. Can you
- 5:27tell us that story when I joined Sepultura. Yeah, yeah, I mean
- 5:33I wasn't a time that was really you know, I didn't know what to
- 5:38do with my life. I wasn't you know, I'm not good in school
- 5:42at the time, didn't have a girlfriend, didn't have a band, you
- 5:45know, I just the band that I was with my friends. Everybody split
- 5:48and stuff. So when I met the Sepultura guys, I felt that they
- 5:54had the same wish or the same goal really to make it happen, you
- 6:00know. And uh soon I after I met them, Giro, the guitar
- 6:03player left, the guitar player who recorded the first two albums, you know,
- 6:08he left, and I was there really looking for some you know,
- 6:12bands, some some people really to to continue my my dream, you know,
- 6:16to play music, to be a professional and et cetera. And I
- 6:23went to Bello arizoni with the hometown of Sura, for vacation, you know,
- 6:27and to I went to the Sepultura's rehearsal. I jammed a lot with
- 6:31Egor. We we we got a immediate connection, you know, when we
- 6:35picked up our instruments. We played The Creator, we played Destruction and Slayer,
- 6:41you know, covers like that, and and it was amazing, you
- 6:44know, it felt like we we knew each other for a long time.
- 6:48And and a month later I was in the band because the guitar player left,
- 6:51Giro left, and and I was there. I moved to bellar Rizone
- 6:57and you know, they were looking for guitar player. I was looking for
- 7:00a band, and you know it was a perfect time for both of us,
- 7:03and and you know here we are several the has been around for nearly
- 7:13forty years. Bright, So how would you say the band's sound has changed
- 7:16and growing your Korea? Oh dude, they changed a lot. I mean
- 7:21it's still changing. I mean that's the beauty of why. That's why we
- 7:26put a new album out, you know, a new album, new music.
- 7:29I mean, it's kind of pathetic that try to copy what we did
- 7:32two or three or five years ago. You know. Of course we have
- 7:35the influence of everything we did, especially on Quadra since the very first album.
- 7:41The trash elements, the percussion and the groups parts, the more progressive
- 7:45sounds of machine messiah and melodic sounds and orchestral instruments and stuff. Everything is
- 7:50there on Quadra, you know. But we're doing with the twist of today,
- 7:56you know, exploring the possibilities of having Loi Kazagrandian drums, which the
- 8:01best drummer in the world, you know, So it opened the possibility to
- 8:05write better, to write more technical stuff. We are better musicians now,
- 8:11you know, because we never stopped growing, i mean learning and really interested
- 8:18in new songs or I still study music every day. You know, I
- 8:22love classical guitar. I still study classical guitar as much as I can.
- 8:26You know, of course, guitar playing, I play with different styles of
- 8:28music. I love the blues. I love to play Brazilian popular music with
- 8:33different musicians and that keeps, you know, influences and ideas flowing, always
- 8:39new ideas and new wishes and possibilities, you know. So I think music
- 8:46it's great because you can keep doing that forever. I mean, you see
- 8:50Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney eighty plus some years old, like three hours on
- 8:54stage having the time of their life. Blues players that go there with ninety
- 8:58five Bloody Guy for instance, you know, still jamming around the world,
- 9:03and that's so inspirational for a musician. You know, we can keep doing
- 9:07that forever until we die, and that's the beautiful not every profession. You
- 9:13know, you have the possibility to do that, you know, So it's
- 9:16great. It us very motivated to keep going, you know, it's amazing.
- 9:22I sort of part of that a little bit bright Like there's been a
- 9:24lot of changes in the music industry over the forty years. You guys have
- 9:26been around, so as a bad if you ever tried to change with the
- 9:31times. I guess sort of most aachia in path and explort within yourselves.
- 9:35No, I think we absorb everything. You know. It's kind of uh
- 9:41stupid to ignore. I mean, Sepultura survived. If you put together the
- 9:48forty years of Sepultura's life, dude, just put together all the technology,
- 9:54technology changes, you know, from vinyl to CD CD to downlow computers,
- 10:03mobile phones and Spotify and Napster, and everything's happened during this forty years,
- 10:09you know, so quick, everything's so many information, and we still are
- 10:13going through a transitional phase. You know, everything is happening. A lot
- 10:18of different ways of selling albums came out of it, you know, the
- 10:22lockdown, the pandemic situation, and we're still here because we learn how to
- 10:26deal with the present and with the elements we have in our hands. It's
- 10:31kind of stupid not try to work something that is not there anymore, you
- 10:35know. So with the lockdown situation was like that we were ready to go
- 10:39on tour. Quadra was just released in February. In March, the word
- 10:43stopped, and then we move our energy and focus to the sepu Quarta stuff.
- 10:50We start working at home every Wednesday. We have a connection with our
- 10:56fans, with jam our music, and an album came out out of it,
- 10:58you know. So we kept working, but in a different frame,
- 11:01in a different energy. So we waited two years to finally start the tour
- 11:07in twenty twenty two, you know. So here we are on the second
- 11:11ear of the Quadra tour and it felt great because we respect, you know,
- 11:16the changes that it's not us. I mean, it's not up to
- 11:20us. Well, I mean, the pandemic situation. Nobody choses that.
- 11:24I mean, we have to deal with it right, And that's how it's
- 11:28life. If you have this idea that you control everything in your life,
- 11:33I mean that's an illusion, you know. So I mean we learn how
- 11:35to deal with the present and with the elements we have in our hands,
- 11:39and that's how we grow, you know, and we feel better than ever
- 11:45before letting go right. We've got reading Spotify playlists when we started with Heavy,
- 11:48just to let people get to know the bands a bit more. So
- 11:52heresn several shorter songs. Can you please give us a song for a pilist
- 11:54to get the party started, one for a pilist to save your marriage,
- 11:58and one for a list that could potentially end your marriage to say, my
- 12:05marriage. Wow, that's a Western I didn't expect. I don't know.
- 12:16To save the marriage, we could put like I don't know, the agony
- 12:20of defeat, you know, just to you know, not to get to
- 12:24that point in the marriage, you know, situation, not to feel defeated,
- 12:30but you know, to to move ahead and face the challenges and and
- 12:33build something together with your partner, you know. And I think that song
- 12:39it's really powerful, not only lyric wise but music wise, you know.
- 12:43And to end our marriage maybe I don't know. A fast, brutal song
- 12:52could be. I don't know, a very dirty song from roots, like
- 12:54spit for instance, not split spit, Yeah, splits can split. Then
- 13:05how about one to get the party started, brand the party started hatamahata of
- 13:11course. Yeah beautiful. All right, Well, thanks very much for your
- 13:15time today, Rover in an absolutely pleasure speaking with your Sepul tour will be
- 13:18here, he said, the first, second and third for good things and
