- 0:30what's going on everybody
- 0:31welcome to sunday night crossfit talk
- 0:34Your eyes do not deceive you.
- 0:36That is not Carolyn Prevost
- 0:38on the far right.
- 0:39That is Russ Mock.
- 0:41He is the director of Fresh Coast,
- 0:47an awesome competition
- 0:48going on in Michigan.
- 0:50And yes, to my left is Jamie Latimer,
- 0:53co-host extraordinaire.
- 0:55We're so excited to have Russ on.
- 0:58We had him on last year
- 0:58before Fresh Coast.
- 1:00And the big news last year was, hey,
- 1:02Rich Froning signed up for
- 1:03your competition.
- 1:04Yeah.
- 1:06And you had to figure that out.
- 1:08Yeah.
- 1:08A little freak out person, uh, and, uh,
- 1:11got the ship in the right
- 1:13direction and he's coming back.
- 1:16So you must've done something right.
- 1:18Yeah.
- 1:19That's like, yeah, that kind of, uh,
- 1:23maybe feel legit.
- 1:24Like if he had a good enough time and, um,
- 1:27they made a vlog about it and yeah.
- 1:29So it looked like he had a good time.
- 1:30So he's bringing some
- 1:32friends back this time.
- 1:33So yeah.
- 1:34How about that?
- 1:36We'll get into that in one second,
- 1:38a little teaser.
- 1:39So with that, um,
- 1:42he also immediately after
- 1:44on his podcast bragged
- 1:47about how much fun he had
- 1:49at your competition.
- 1:50Yeah.
- 1:51So as an event director,
- 1:54what's going through your
- 1:54head is Rich Froning is
- 1:56bragging about your comp.
- 1:58I mean, it kind of, yeah,
- 2:00legitimatizes it.
- 2:01Like this is going to be our
- 2:02ninth year and it started
- 2:03on like a Saturday.
- 2:04We talked about this last time,
- 2:05but it was like 10 teams on
- 2:07a Saturday and, uh,
- 2:09and it's just gone nuts from there.
- 2:11A lot of that's thanks to
- 2:12the venue that we have
- 2:13beautiful beach on Lake
- 2:14Michigan and a lot of beach.
- 2:16Um,
- 2:17and then our community just pours into
- 2:20it every year.
- 2:21And it's kind of like our, I don't know,
- 2:22like our highlight of the year.
- 2:23So, so Jamie, you've, you've done it.
- 2:27How many years?
- 2:28I think this is my seventh.
- 2:32I think I missed the,
- 2:33I definitely missed the first year.
- 2:34I'm not sure if I missed the second year.
- 2:38So people like games athlete,
- 2:40Jamie Latimer show up.
- 2:43Yep.
- 2:44And we've had, uh, yeah,
- 2:45Jamie's been there.
- 2:46And then, um, like the eight day team,
- 2:49they're going to the games.
- 2:50They're all their athletes have competed,
- 2:52um, across many years.
- 2:55Uh, we had, um, uh,
- 2:58you know, who else, uh, Jack Rosema.
- 3:02Yep.
- 3:02Jack Rosema.
- 3:03He was there last year, uh,
- 3:04page powers when she was a type.
- 3:07Um, and, uh, and yeah,
- 3:09so it's been cool to have
- 3:10those people come through
- 3:12and then see where they've gone to.
- 3:13And yeah,
- 3:14we'll definitely be cheering for
- 3:15Jack and then the eight day
- 3:16team and for sure.
- 3:19Yeah, it's funny.
- 3:19I was interviewing Jack,
- 3:20and I came across him at
- 3:22Fresh Coast when I was doing research.
- 3:25Brought it up, and he loved it too.
- 3:27He bragged about how fun it
- 3:28was doing that.
- 3:30And he grew up in Grand Rapids, so for him,
- 3:34it's like coming home.
- 3:35Oh, I didn't know he grew up that close.
- 3:36Yeah, cool.
- 3:37Yeah.
- 3:38And I think what Rich and I'm like,
- 3:41he's like, they got that OG mentality.
- 3:43And it's super chill.
- 3:44It's not super elaborate,
- 3:46like water blues or something,
- 3:48which water blues is a blast.
- 3:50But it's very like down to
- 3:53earth and chill.
- 3:54People bring their canopy
- 3:55tents and a lot less rules and stuff.
- 3:58So it's throwback.
- 4:01So last year you had a rig on the beach,
- 4:05correct?
- 4:06Doing that again this year?
- 4:07Yeah, yeah.
- 4:08Oh, yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 4:10That is quite the monumental
- 4:13thing to put up.
- 4:14My build crew is like
- 4:16literally two guys go out there on Friday,
- 4:18start in the morning,
- 4:19and just build that bad boy up.
- 4:21It's 90 feet.
- 4:22And, yeah,
- 4:23we'll be doing ring muscle-ups
- 4:25and all the stuff.
- 4:27Awesome.
- 4:28Well, our dear friend, Lana Marcin, said,
- 4:32see you there.
- 4:33So she must be coming down
- 4:34from Canada to check out
- 4:35all the action in Michigan.
- 4:37That's awesome.
- 4:38Yeah,
- 4:39we've got some teams traveling this year.
- 4:40We've got Colorado.
- 4:41We've got Texas.
- 4:42We've got Canada.
- 4:44I saw a lot of Canada.
- 4:45So pretty excited.
- 4:47So you alluded to Rich
- 4:49bringing some friends.
- 4:51You want to unveil who he's
- 4:52bringing as a teammate?
- 4:54Yeah, so I get a text, and his teammates,
- 4:59J-Web and Swift,
- 5:00Swift has a work engagement,
- 5:02and he's not going to make it.
- 5:04So I was like, oh,
- 5:05you're reading the text.
- 5:06You're like, oh, bummer.
- 5:07Okay, what does this mean?
- 5:08And then read further down, and it's like,
- 5:10eh, Dan Bailey's coming.
- 5:12So pretty excited.
- 5:14Ohio boy coming up to Michigan.
- 5:15Yeah.
- 5:17Yeah.
- 5:18He actually works out at my
- 5:19gym doing the open workouts.
- 5:22Dan's a great guy.
- 5:24And those two were training
- 5:25partners in the OG days of CrossFit.
- 5:28Oh, yeah.
- 5:28To see them back together on a team.
- 5:32When Rich first went team,
- 5:33people were calling for this.
- 5:36Yeah.
- 5:37They wanted Dan to be the
- 5:38other guy on the team.
- 5:40And it never happened.
- 5:42And here we are at Fresh Coast.
- 5:44You get to give the people
- 5:46what they've been wanting
- 5:48almost 10 years.
- 5:50Yeah, I mean, I consider myself an OG.
- 5:532012, I think it was, Big Sky,
- 5:55they actually worked out and stuff.
- 5:57And I found myself going
- 5:59back and watching those this week because,
- 6:01yeah, it's just like...
- 6:02Yeah, those are the glory days,
- 6:03some might call it.
- 6:04So to see them, you know,
- 6:07we've got a snatch ladder in our comp,
- 6:09and they're just going to
- 6:10be going rep for rep,
- 6:12climbing up that ladder.
- 6:12That's going to be pretty sweet.
- 6:15Yeah,
- 6:15my biggest memory of the two of them
- 6:17is Invitational times.
- 6:20They got to do the
- 6:20Invitational for Team USA and crushed it.
- 6:24So it's going to be fun seeing that again.
- 6:27Yeah.
- 6:28We're really excited.
- 6:29The weather's looking great.
- 6:29So, um,
- 6:31and then he's also bringing in Dre
- 6:33Strom's coming and, uh, Ben Davidson and,
- 6:36uh, yeah, we're just trying to, you know,
- 6:38spring the whole mayhem empire up here.
- 6:41Good people.
- 6:43Uh,
- 6:43Craig Pasley says Dan's 100 pound Murph
- 6:45workout is a total bad-ass
- 6:47video and accomplishment.
- 6:50Yeah.
- 6:50That thing was sweet.
- 6:53so yeah that's like a big
- 6:55crew of mayhem people
- 6:56coming up Dre just finished
- 6:58semifinals Ben Davidson the
- 7:00fittest videographer in the
- 7:01business yeah it's going to
- 7:04be fun seeing that yeah
- 7:06it's going to be sweet one
- 7:08of the cool things for me
- 7:10is I've talked to you now
- 7:11for the last two years
- 7:12Jamie brags about this
- 7:14event all the time and I
- 7:16get to go this year yeah
- 7:20And we're going to document it.
- 7:22We're going to document it
- 7:23from kind of a
- 7:25behind-the-scenes
- 7:26perspective where I just
- 7:28want to meet the people, hear the stories,
- 7:30why they come here,
- 7:32why they do this stuff,
- 7:34what they're trying to overcome,
- 7:36all that kind of stuff.
- 7:37We're going to try to tell
- 7:38that story while we're there.
- 7:40Yeah, that's going to be sweet.
- 7:41You're like our first real
- 7:43media other than Rich and
- 7:45Vanish Loop came down and
- 7:46they did that vlog.
- 7:47But yeah, I mean, it's going to be sweet.
- 7:51I got your media credentials on lock.
- 7:54Nice.
- 7:55And you know what?
- 7:56I got them sooner than two
- 7:58weeks before the event.
- 8:03what the best part of this
- 8:03whole thing was talking to
- 8:06Russ was when I was riffing
- 8:09about CrossFit,
- 8:10not letting me know if I
- 8:11could come to semifinals, Russ is like,
- 8:13Hey, we'll give you two months notice.
- 8:15We'll give you what, you know,
- 8:17what do you need backstage?
- 8:18Whatever you need, whatever you want.
- 8:21It'll be cool, though,
- 8:22to have you there because
- 8:23you'll do a good job of
- 8:23documenting the whole Rich and Dan thing.
- 8:26And the community will get to see that,
- 8:27hopefully.
- 8:28And it just, you know, some people can.
- 8:31Yeah,
- 8:32we want to document all the other
- 8:33athletes, too.
- 8:34Yeah, for sure.
- 8:36We want to showcase what
- 8:37this has been for years and
- 8:39why Rich and Dan want to come.
- 8:42Yep, for sure.
- 8:45But it'll be, honestly, as an OG fanboy,
- 8:48super excited about that aspect, too.
- 8:50Yep.
- 8:51Yeah.
- 8:52But Atlanta, who's been talking,
- 8:55she helped me with
- 8:56videography at Masters
- 8:58Fitness Collective when I was down there.
- 9:00So she's awesome too.
- 9:03Maybe I'll have to recruit
- 9:04her in to get some video
- 9:05shots for me as well.
- 9:10And it's kind of an OG year.
- 9:12I don't know if you want to
- 9:12talk about the events at all,
- 9:13but our first event is a
- 9:15callback to 2014.
- 9:17So 10 years ago, CrossFit Games events.
- 9:20Wow.
- 9:21So all the events are old
- 9:23CrossFit Games events or no?
- 9:25Just the first one.
- 9:26It's one I've been wanting
- 9:27to do for a long time.
- 9:28And it was called The Beach.
- 9:31It was back in California.
- 9:32And they had the team swim
- 9:34with a rescue raft.
- 9:35And this was back when they
- 9:36were teams of six.
- 9:37And then the individual,
- 9:38they had to swim like 250, 500, 250.
- 9:41And that's all it was.
- 9:44And then the individuals had
- 9:45to do a real swim without the raft.
- 9:48And some thrusters with
- 9:49kettlebells and some burpees.
- 9:51So we smashed those together.
- 9:52And...
- 9:55It's going to be pretty epic, I think.
- 9:59I remember that vividly.
- 10:00I remember that there were
- 10:01some really weak swimmers
- 10:02just hanging on and then
- 10:04their teammates had to push
- 10:05the raft with them being drug alongside.
- 10:09There'll be more of that.
- 10:14The current changed a week
- 10:17ago and the lake dropped to 50 degrees.
- 10:19Are you nervous about that?
- 10:21Because I am.
- 10:23The water temp changes with
- 10:26every gust of wind.
- 10:29We have written down 500 meters,
- 10:31but that's always up for
- 10:33changing depending on water
- 10:34conditions and stuff.
- 10:37Last year, there was no real swim, right?
- 10:40You just had to kind of run
- 10:41into the water?
- 10:42Yeah, probably.
- 10:44How high was it on you, Jamie?
- 10:46It got to my neck for sure.
- 10:47Um, but there was some guy,
- 10:48there were some guys who
- 10:49could definitely get away with walk.
- 10:51Like, well, I want, I mean,
- 10:53it was silly not to like,
- 10:54when you're waiting that, that high,
- 10:56you're better off just swimming.
- 10:58But, um, yeah.
- 11:00it was meant to be like a Wade.
- 11:01I think one day it was a
- 11:02little choppier and whatnot, but, um,
- 11:04yeah, we just try to mix it up.
- 11:05We use the water every year.
- 11:06Sometimes it's as a team.
- 11:07Sometimes it's as an individual,
- 11:09like one of the teammates will do it.
- 11:11Um,
- 11:11so this year it's cool cause they're
- 11:13all going to be out there,
- 11:13but they all have a flotation device.
- 11:15So I haven't gotten too many, uh,
- 11:17complaints or, you know,
- 11:19concerned athletes about that.
- 11:20So.
- 11:22Any other workouts you're
- 11:23super excited about?
- 11:26Um,
- 11:29I mean, the other two are great.
- 11:30I mean, we just,
- 11:31we try to put a really
- 11:32balanced competition together.
- 11:34Um, and I think we,
- 11:37we hit that pretty well.
- 11:38Um,
- 11:39we got some high level like ring muscle
- 11:40ups.
- 11:41Um, we're doing three bars synchro.
- 11:43We've never been able to do that.
- 11:45And we figured out a way to
- 11:45do that with using the men's bar,
- 11:48the women's bar and an axle bar.
- 11:50So that'd be cool to see the
- 11:52athletes navigate the axle bar.
- 11:54There'll be in the sand for the axle bar.
- 11:56So that's,
- 11:57some quirks and some
- 11:58challenges for them that
- 12:00they're not going to get inside their box,
- 12:01you know?
- 12:02And that's what it's all about.
- 12:03The best is you explaining
- 12:05it in Jamie's facial reaction,
- 12:07who has no poker face.
- 12:10I'm just bummed there's not
- 12:11a run this year.
- 12:12The shuttles don't count.
- 12:14Yeah, there are shuttle runs.
- 12:15Everyone loves shuttle runs, right?
- 12:16So we threw a couple of
- 12:18shuttle runs in there for a
- 12:19little race of a finish on
- 12:20the final workout.
- 12:22So I'm hoping for some
- 12:22really good pictures.
- 12:25We bring in speaking of pictures,
- 12:26we bring in FL sports guy.
- 12:28He's he shoots like he's
- 12:29been shooting the CrossFit
- 12:30games for I don't know how many years.
- 12:32He's like he shoots the
- 12:33finishes and he's been coming up.
- 12:36He takes thick pictures.
- 12:38So we're excited to have him back again.
- 12:41Yeah, super stoked for this.
- 12:44So it's teams of three?
- 12:45Teams of three, same sex.
- 12:48We have the Masters Division,
- 12:49and then we have the Individual,
- 12:50and then we have RX Day,
- 12:52and then Intermediate Day on Sunday.
- 12:54And what's kind of cool, I think,
- 12:56about our Masters Division is...
- 12:59they're competing against the,
- 13:01the young guns as well.
- 13:02So we don't change the workouts.
- 13:04I try to balance the workout so that,
- 13:06you know, it's not too crazy for them,
- 13:08but, um, yeah,
- 13:09like so rich and Dan will
- 13:11be competing in the master's division,
- 13:13but there'll also be
- 13:14competing in the regular RX.
- 13:16Um, so that might, you know,
- 13:18it's kind of cool that way they,
- 13:20they can see how they match
- 13:22up against the young, good young guys.
- 13:25my guess is it'll be okay
- 13:27though they'll match up
- 13:28okay yeah and I'm just
- 13:32jealous too because these
- 13:33guys get to compete against
- 13:34these legends and like I
- 13:35mean I I'm there for the
- 13:37you know to spectate it's
- 13:38gonna be awesome but I mean
- 13:39how many people get to say
- 13:41regular folk get to say
- 13:42they got to compete against
- 13:44these guys you know right
- 13:45it's really cool yeah way
- 13:48too cool um jamie what are
- 13:50you competing in masters okay
- 13:54And you won last year.
- 13:56We did master's predictions this year.
- 13:59Hmm.
- 14:03I don't know.
- 14:03It's not,
- 14:03they're not great workouts for us.
- 14:05I, the snatching, the snap.
- 14:07So like the snatching
- 14:08workout is technically half the day.
- 14:12Um, it's like a two-parter, but for,
- 14:14so I feel like that one's
- 14:15just gonna tank us, but that's okay.
- 14:19Yeah,
- 14:19we usually do like a true strength test.
- 14:21And this year we have a snatch ladder.
- 14:23So a little bit different.
- 14:27Who's the title sponsor?
- 14:30LRX.
- 14:31They've been with us for a
- 14:32handful of years now and
- 14:33they've been great.
- 14:34So lots of sweet stuff we'll
- 14:36have on the beach.
- 14:39Really glad to have those on one time.
- 14:41And then for spectators who come watch,
- 14:45admission, is there any admission?
- 14:47Yeah,
- 14:48so it's $10 a day or $15 for the
- 14:51whole weekend if you're
- 14:51going to be there both days.
- 14:53And so we fence it in and
- 14:55provide port-a-johns and all that stuff.
- 15:00And yeah, so $10.
- 15:01You can buy tickets online or at the gate,
- 15:03whatever.
- 15:05And yeah, all day, 8 a.m.
- 15:09to about 5 p.m.
- 15:11Okay.
- 15:12And then there's,
- 15:13Jamie keeps talking about
- 15:13this thing called the dock.
- 15:15We're like the deck deck.
- 15:21You want to tell them about it?
- 15:22It's it's just a barbecue
- 15:24place that's next door.
- 15:25It's huge.
- 15:25And it's got music and some
- 15:28like long games.
- 15:29And yeah, it's it's just a cool place.
- 15:31It started as like this very small spot.
- 15:34And like they've just it's
- 15:36just gone bonkers.
- 15:38It's they've got a concert
- 15:39or not a concert,
- 15:40like live band every night.
- 15:42So they're good neighbors.
- 15:43It's cool.
- 15:44Uh,
- 15:45defender village or anything like that.
- 15:47Food truck.
- 15:48Yeah.
- 15:48We got a ton of good vendors.
- 15:50Um,
- 15:50we're going to have some acai bowls out
- 15:52there.
- 15:52So excited for that.
- 15:54Um, yeah, food trucks, uh,
- 15:57clean eats will be in there, um,
- 15:59sampling food and take care
- 16:00of our volunteers and also selling meals.
- 16:03Um, and then, yeah, yeah.
- 16:05Tons of vendors.
- 16:06So definitely come check that out.
- 16:09Buy some swag.
- 16:11Last question.
- 16:12Anybody you want to shout
- 16:13out that's helped you put this on?
- 16:18Just my, I mean, my gyms community,
- 16:21Muskegon CrossFit.
- 16:22I mean,
- 16:22I have people that have done help
- 16:24me since day one and like
- 16:25they're there every year.
- 16:27I've got people taking the
- 16:28weekend or the Friday and
- 16:29the Monday off of work just
- 16:31to help us and like pull it off.
- 16:33And yeah,
- 16:34it's just yeah I couldn't be
- 16:35what it is today without
- 16:36those people and then a lot
- 16:38of volunteers from outside
- 16:39of our community like
- 16:40that's been growing and
- 16:41I've been trying to make
- 16:42that a better experience
- 16:43for people so um people
- 16:45driving and you know
- 16:46getting a hotel and staying
- 16:48just to help put an event
- 16:49on is just awesome so like
- 16:51anyone watching that has
- 16:53never volunteered for an event like
- 16:55it's super helpful and you,
- 16:58we try to make it fun.
- 16:59It's, it's hard work,
- 17:00but it's just like a CrossFit workout.
- 17:02You're in it together with other people.
- 17:03And so I recommend people, you know,
- 17:06reach out and try to get
- 17:07involved in other ways when they can.
- 17:11Well, thank you so much, Russ, Russ,
- 17:12for jumping on.
- 17:12Um,
- 17:13I'll probably be in touch with you this
- 17:14week just to get some
- 17:15finite details about some
- 17:17things that I need, uh,
- 17:18before I get up there.
- 17:20And other than that,
- 17:21thank you so much and good
- 17:21luck this weekend.
- 17:23All right, thanks, guys.
- 17:24Thank you.
- 17:25All right, thanks.
- 17:26And now we'll swap out Russ
- 17:28and bring in Carolyn.
- 17:31There we go.
- 17:32Hello, everyone.
- 17:33Hey.
- 17:36What's going on, Carolyn?
- 17:41I lost her.
- 17:42She's muted.
- 17:44I said just about to have dinner here.
- 17:45I've had amazing dinner
- 17:47every night here at Lex's parents' house.
- 17:50It's great, great, great food.
- 17:53Yes, how's it been in California?
- 17:55Getting used to the early
- 17:56morning workouts?
- 17:58Oh, man.
- 17:59Yes, we go to bed just so early.
- 18:02But I'm actually exhausted by 7.30.
- 18:04So it works out well.
- 18:07We get up around 4, 4.10,
- 18:10head on the road.
- 18:12Lex makes breakfast and everything,
- 18:14gets the dogs ready.
- 18:15And then we probably begin
- 18:17our first session around, first session,
- 18:19basically our only session,
- 18:21around 5 o'clock in the morning.
- 18:24then we do the class
- 18:26workouts that they like a
- 18:27class wad and the lifts
- 18:29that they have at their at
- 18:31their gym around six
- 18:33o'clock and then whatever
- 18:35we have left right after
- 18:36that before we uh walk the
- 18:38dogs for a few hours sounds
- 18:42fun well it's just so hot
- 18:44here like it that we just
- 18:46try to get everything done
- 18:47early in the morning um and
- 18:49then we have the rest of the day um
- 18:52do things or she obviously
- 18:54has work to do um so for
- 18:57her job um so I guess I'm
- 18:59the one that can chill
- 18:59because I'm off from work
- 19:02um but yeah no it's a it's
- 19:04a good it's a good system
- 19:05we have amy how's masters
- 19:08training going good um I've
- 19:13had some brutal pieces but
- 19:16it's fun it's it's fun like
- 19:19if there's some hot days
- 19:19here I try to do stuff outside to
- 19:22get some heat training in um
- 19:26but I spent the last let's
- 19:27see on thursday we went to
- 19:28grand haven I spent the
- 19:31last three four days there
- 19:33jumping in the lake trying
- 19:34to get used to the I think
- 19:36it was 60 but it was cold
- 19:39wow yeah I uh I just wish
- 19:43we knew more and hopefully
- 19:46yeah we'll talk about that
- 19:48as we get into the show a
- 19:49little bit but just wish we
- 19:50knew more about that
- 19:52I do have, like, it's been a great week.
- 19:56I actually had some alone
- 19:57time this weekend.
- 19:58Julie went on vacation with her family.
- 20:00So Walter and I just hung at
- 20:01the house this weekend,
- 20:02did some stuff kind of
- 20:04around the house a lot.
- 20:05And really, it was a nice,
- 20:07relaxing weekend.
- 20:08But growing up in the 80s,
- 20:11I was the biggest Beverly Hills Cop fan.
- 20:13Like, love that movie.
- 20:16And the new one just came out this week.
- 20:19Loved it.
- 20:20I haven't even seen it.
- 20:22It's came out on Netflix and
- 20:25it's really cool.
- 20:27And it's,
- 20:29it's not the greatest movie like
- 20:31standalone,
- 20:32but if you're a fan of the
- 20:34eighties movies, the first,
- 20:35especially the first two,
- 20:36there's so much nostalgia
- 20:38and so much like throwback to that,
- 20:41but not too much that it, it's just,
- 20:43it's a good watch.
- 20:44And it just,
- 20:45one of those like makes me feel good.
- 20:47Right.
- 20:50so just had to get that in
- 20:52there I know sometimes we
- 20:53talk about movies last time
- 20:55last time we talked about
- 20:56inside out too which I
- 20:58can't remember what I was
- 20:59watching it was I think it
- 21:03was jr saying that he cried
- 21:06at inside out too because
- 21:08of being a girl dad and uh
- 21:12and it got really emotional
- 21:14so I thought this week I'd
- 21:15talk about beverly hills cop
- 21:18I saw Despicable Me 4 as
- 21:20well with Lex this week.
- 21:22Was it good?
- 21:23It was good.
- 21:24I mean,
- 21:25I like just any type of funny movie,
- 21:28young movie.
- 21:30She likes all the scary
- 21:31movies and action movies,
- 21:32and I'm more just... I mean,
- 21:35just those type of movies make me happy.
- 21:37Yeah.
- 21:38Yeah.
- 21:40Yeah.
- 21:43So, yeah.
- 21:44Before we get into too much,
- 21:45make sure you like...
- 21:48subscribe hit that notifier
- 21:49it's the only way you'll
- 21:50know when new episodes are
- 21:51coming out is if you hit
- 21:52that little bell um and if
- 21:54you feel like supporting
- 21:55the show uh when we go do
- 21:57things like fresh coast and
- 21:58we're going to document
- 21:59that and put it out as a
- 22:01little documentary uh you
- 22:03can hit that join button
- 22:05for as little as 2.99 a
- 22:06month uh with that we
- 22:08really appreciate that but
- 22:12One of the things we're
- 22:13trying to do is listener
- 22:14question of the week.
- 22:15And we have one from Craig Passley.
- 22:20And his question is,
- 22:22will the games athletes
- 22:23strategize with each other
- 22:25to gain more information
- 22:27from Dave's interviews?
- 22:31I don't feel like they're
- 22:32talking and figuring out
- 22:33questions to ask.
- 22:35I don't even know that they've all, I mean,
- 22:36I think some have like Ruan said,
- 22:39he's been watching and was
- 22:40excited to ask the question, but I don't,
- 22:43I don't know.
- 22:43You would think they're all watching,
- 22:45but who knows?
- 22:46Yeah.
- 22:46A lot of them don't seem to
- 22:47be watching much of the
- 22:49interviews because some of
- 22:50the same questions have
- 22:51been repeated over and over about,
- 22:54What are you excited for
- 22:55Texas and what are what's
- 22:57the first workout and how
- 22:59often are we going to be outside?
- 23:01It's been a lot of the same questions,
- 23:04but there were some good
- 23:05ones this week as well.
- 23:06I agree.
- 23:07I think people that are
- 23:09friends like Ariel and
- 23:11Emily kind of felt like they talked.
- 23:15Because the question's kind
- 23:17of built on each other.
- 23:19But really,
- 23:19I don't think there's any
- 23:20strategy behind the question asking.
- 23:23I think they're just trying
- 23:24to figure out what to ask
- 23:28that Dave will actually answer.
- 23:30Yeah.
- 23:32And some of them have even
- 23:33given up on that, right?
- 23:37So that's that.
- 23:38If you have a list or
- 23:39question of the week that
- 23:40you want us to bring up on
- 23:41the show and talk about,
- 23:43you can submit that in the comments.
- 23:46after the show's over, uh, not the,
- 23:49the chat, but the comments.
- 23:51And we'll read that question
- 23:53on the air and answer that.
- 23:55Also,
- 23:56if you had a riff about something
- 23:59that happened in this week
- 24:01and you want to get it off your chest,
- 24:03record it two minutes or less,
- 24:06send it to us.
- 24:07And if it's good,
- 24:07we'll play it on the air.
- 24:09And, uh,
- 24:10And yeah, go from there.
- 24:12But we haven't had someone
- 24:13brave enough to do the riff of the week.
- 24:17So looking for someone to
- 24:18take that plunge.
- 24:20Because we've been having at
- 24:22least one riff a week,
- 24:24getting it out there.
- 24:25And we want to share in the fun.
- 24:30If you want to do a riff,
- 24:31just record it on your phone,
- 24:32send it to us,
- 24:33and we'll make sure to get
- 24:34it out on the air.
- 24:37So one thing I wanted to
- 24:39bring up before we dive
- 24:40knee-deep into stuff is I
- 24:42watched the latest episode
- 24:43of the West Coast Classic
- 24:45behind the scenes.
- 24:48I am telling you that is one
- 24:49of the best pieces of
- 24:50content that I have seen in five years.
- 24:56That's insane.
- 24:57It is.
- 24:58And because it is,
- 25:01it's back to what made
- 25:02behind the scenes great
- 25:04initially and talking to
- 25:05the athletes that nobody knows.
- 25:08Yeah.
- 25:09Now, some of them,
- 25:10like we know from
- 25:11interviewing on this show,
- 25:13like Gabrielle Spence and I
- 25:19know we talked to Jacob Schmidt a lot.
- 25:21There was.
- 25:24But in addition to that,
- 25:25he also caught these like
- 25:27conversations between coach athlete,
- 25:29athlete, athlete.
- 25:31There's one piece where he
- 25:33catches Jacob Heppner,
- 25:35Brent Fikowski and Pat Vellner talking.
- 25:39And they put out,
- 25:42or they were talking about,
- 25:43when do you know it's the end?
- 25:46And they were asking Jacob Heppner about,
- 25:48when do you know it's time to retire?
- 25:49And there's some funny pieces in it,
- 25:53but Jacob's like, you know,
- 25:56at the end of every season, you question,
- 25:58do I want to go through this again?
- 26:00But the year I knew it was
- 26:02over is when I was
- 26:03questioning it in the
- 26:03middle of the season.
- 26:04Hmm.
- 26:09those are things that we
- 26:10don't get in like a podcast
- 26:11interview or because it's
- 26:14just these three legends
- 26:16sitting in a tent talking
- 26:20and it's this episode is
- 26:22chocked full of that stuff
- 26:25when when pat the bed on
- 26:28the snatch ladder
- 26:30he talks right after that
- 26:31about how bad he feels.
- 26:33Like he literally says,
- 26:35I wish I could dig a hole
- 26:36in the middle of the
- 26:37stadium and go down in it.
- 26:43Again, stuff you don't get every day.
- 26:45Yeah.
- 26:50So just wanted to put that out there.
- 26:54Very, very good.
- 26:56This is, this is,
- 26:57do you have to be a member
- 26:58to watch these right now?
- 27:00The first episodes are free now.
- 27:02Okay.
- 27:04But this is the third.
- 27:06Got it.
- 27:09All right.
- 27:10Have you seen it, Carolyn?
- 27:13No, I haven't looked at it yet.
- 27:15It appeared in my notifications,
- 27:17but I haven't dug into them.
- 27:20Yeah.
- 27:22Yeah.
- 27:22Again,
- 27:23even this one is better than the
- 27:24first two.
- 27:26Like this one just hit all the feels.
- 27:30For me, semifinals,
- 27:31I kind of don't want to
- 27:33look at anything of it.
- 27:34I'm putting that way past me.
- 27:36It was not a good weekend.
- 27:38So I don't feel like
- 27:39watching anything of any
- 27:41regions of semifinals anymore.
- 27:44If I'm being honest.
- 27:46Fair enough.
- 27:48So the other thing that came
- 27:49out this week was we talked
- 27:51about it briefly last week
- 27:53with it being unknown,
- 27:54but it's the cut schedule.
- 27:56Yeah.
- 27:59So
- 28:00Now we know.
- 28:01And I'm trying to find my mouse.
- 28:06And I'm just going to take
- 28:07this directly from our notes.
- 28:14So there it is.
- 28:19All 40 athletes on Thursday,
- 28:20all 40 athletes all day Friday,
- 28:23part of Saturday with the 40,
- 28:25then cut to 30,
- 28:27and then Saturday night going into Sunday,
- 28:30cut to 20.
- 28:35Thoughts?
- 28:37Oh, you know my thoughts.
- 28:38Not a fan of the cuts.
- 28:41Same with me.
- 28:41I'm not a fan of it.
- 28:42I know it's entertaining.
- 28:44It is what it is.
- 28:47Um,
- 28:47Dave did say that the first cut would be,
- 28:49uh,
- 28:50that the athletes would get more
- 28:52events into the first cut
- 28:53than what they had last year.
- 28:55And if I'm not mistaken,
- 28:56they had somewhere around what,
- 28:58six or seven,
- 28:59maybe last year before the first cut.
- 29:01Am I right?
- 29:01It was six.
- 29:02There were three events a day.
- 29:04So the more opportunities for events,
- 29:09the better if you're going to make cuts.
- 29:11But I won't I won't give my
- 29:14opinion on cuts,
- 29:15but I've never I've never enjoyed them.
- 29:16I think everyone who is at
- 29:18the competition should take
- 29:20the full test always.
- 29:23If it means inviting less people,
- 29:25it means inviting less people,
- 29:26but ideally a full test for everyone.
- 29:29And you get an accurate representation of
- 29:32one through whatever it'll be.
- 29:35Yeah.
- 29:36I mean, the cuts are semifinals.
- 29:39That's why we do the season.
- 29:41The cuts are along the way,
- 29:42not at the event, in my opinion.
- 29:46Yeah.
- 29:46I think we've hammered this
- 29:48one to death about our feelings about it.
- 29:52Craig asked,
- 29:53do you think Chad will be the
- 29:54last workout before the cut?
- 29:57I don't.
- 29:58I don't either.
- 29:58I think that'll be like,
- 29:59could have some aspect to
- 30:01do with the Friday night lights thing.
- 30:05Like, I don't know.
- 30:07Oh, I hope not.
- 30:08I hope they do something
- 30:09else for the Friday night lights then.
- 30:12Well,
- 30:12I think it's going to be mixed with
- 30:13something.
- 30:14So I,
- 30:17so listening to one of the interviews
- 30:23today, I think it was Linda Keisman.
- 30:27dave said she her she asked
- 30:29the question what are what
- 30:31event are you most looking
- 30:32forward to and she said
- 30:33just give me a number and
- 30:35he said well one two chad
- 30:39the finale every one of
- 30:42them right and just the way
- 30:44he said it like it looked
- 30:45like he was going through
- 30:46in his head I think chad is
- 30:48the third event
- 30:52I'm probably wrong because
- 30:54Dave always misleads us.
- 30:57The way he just went through
- 30:58it in his head,
- 30:59it really appeared that he
- 31:01was just going down the order.
- 31:05Interesting.
- 31:06Do you think it's going to be step overs?
- 31:13I do.
- 31:14I do too.
- 31:18It would make it easier to judge.
- 31:20It would make it a whole lot
- 31:21easier to judge.
- 31:24Cause he also said to somebody like it's,
- 31:27it's just that over and over and over.
- 31:29And he was doing this with his head.
- 31:31But again,
- 31:32you don't know if that's a trick or like,
- 31:36yeah.
- 31:41Um,
- 31:42draw your dagger going outside the box.
- 31:46This would be a great
- 31:47listener question of the week.
- 31:48If you just submitted that in the comments,
- 31:50however, Carolyn,
- 31:52do you feel like advancing
- 31:53to the games is getting
- 31:54harder for athletes that are your style?
- 31:57I E well-balanced,
- 31:59no crazy outlier strength events,
- 32:01not a knock.
- 32:02The sport feels different.
- 32:04I think you need wheelhouse.
- 32:06I think you have to get top fives,
- 32:08especially at semifinals
- 32:09and get those points when
- 32:10you only have six events,
- 32:12unless you're well,
- 32:13if you can get all top tens
- 32:15of like you should be in, obviously in a,
- 32:17in a region like, um, North America, uh,
- 32:20East and West and Europe.
- 32:22But if you're in a field of
- 32:2440 and you have, you know,
- 32:26moderate finishes,
- 32:27it's just not good enough anymore.
- 32:28you have to go and get those
- 32:31top points because the way
- 32:33that the scoring system is,
- 32:34is you're rewarded for
- 32:35having a specialty.
- 32:37You're getting more points
- 32:38for not for having a
- 32:39specialty and you're getting punished,
- 32:41obviously, if it's not your specialty.
- 32:44So in that sense,
- 32:47I just find you need to have
- 32:49at least one or two workouts
- 32:51that you can knock out of the park.
- 32:52And sometimes I have that in competitions.
- 32:55And for instance, this semifinals,
- 32:56I had none,
- 32:58like none that I really was like, Oh,
- 33:00this is up my alley.
- 33:01You know, I had them in the open.
- 33:02I had them in quarters that were well,
- 33:04but just,
- 33:05it just didn't happen for semifinals.
- 33:07And that's the thing with
- 33:07our sport is you just don't
- 33:09know what directions
- 33:10they'll go for programming
- 33:11and whether it'll be good
- 33:12for you or less good for you.
- 33:15Like you prepare for everything.
- 33:16And obviously there's
- 33:17athletes that are just,
- 33:18fitter overall that it
- 33:19doesn't matter what the programming is.
- 33:21But for a lot of us, it does.
- 33:24And in certain, in certain times that,
- 33:26you know,
- 33:27it's in your favor and sometimes
- 33:28it's not.
- 33:30So I don't know if it's, I mean,
- 33:33I do have some wheelhouse workouts.
- 33:35That's the thing is it just,
- 33:36I just didn't have them this time around.
- 33:39So as a follow-up to that,
- 33:41do you think that that
- 33:42delineation between the two
- 33:44styles of programming were
- 33:47when the switch went from Dave to Boz?
- 33:50Or do you think it was
- 33:51happening even before that?
- 33:56I think it's still happening before that.
- 33:57If you look at this,
- 33:58like look at Dave
- 33:59interviewing the athletes and like,
- 34:01he'll ask the guys even
- 34:02like what's their weight.
- 34:04I haven't heard a single guy
- 34:05say under 200 pounds.
- 34:06And he's like, Oh,
- 34:06that's not typical for a guy to be,
- 34:08you know, as big as you.
- 34:09And almost every single one
- 34:11is six foot and about 205
- 34:13to 215 right now for the, for the men.
- 34:16You weren't seeing that before.
- 34:17Like the guys are just guys
- 34:18and girls are just stronger now.
- 34:22Better on the machines.
- 34:23Like you just have different,
- 34:27I mean, we don't have a lot of like super,
- 34:29super long events normally at semifinals.
- 34:31So those power output events
- 34:34are generating, I think,
- 34:37different types of athletes.
- 34:38Yeah.
- 34:39So in his interview with Heinrich,
- 34:42and I know he's probably
- 34:43done this in others as well,
- 34:44but this is the one I just
- 34:45watched most recently.
- 34:47He asked how tall he was.
- 34:48Heinrich said, I'm six foot one.
- 34:50And he said, oh,
- 34:51that's strange that you're
- 34:53six one and that tall.
- 34:55That's not strange anymore.
- 34:57And what does that say about
- 35:01Does Dave understand that
- 35:03his programming is now
- 35:05bringing us six-foot
- 35:08athletes over 200 pounds?
- 35:12Or is this a wake-up call
- 35:13for him in these interviews
- 35:15that this is now what you
- 35:18are programming into?
- 35:21But those athletes are very
- 35:23good on body weight movements as well.
- 35:25Like, don't get me wrong.
- 35:26Like they're, they're well balanced.
- 35:27They're well balanced,
- 35:28but like the shift is
- 35:30getting towards that larger athlete,
- 35:34male and female in general,
- 35:36it would be really
- 35:38interesting to actually
- 35:39have an accurate
- 35:40representation of the height and,
- 35:41weight of the athletes,
- 35:42like what they have on
- 35:43their profiles is sometimes
- 35:45I laugh at the weight that
- 35:46some of the girls put or some of the,
- 35:48you know,
- 35:48I feel like some of it's just so old.
- 35:51Some of them are way like 125, 135.
- 35:53I'm like, maybe five, 10 years ago.
- 35:56Right.
- 35:58But just to get an idea of
- 35:59what the average body type is,
- 36:02I think would just be interesting.
- 36:04Like obviously someone like Colton,
- 36:06he's been able to qualify regardless of,
- 36:11you know, his size because he's so fit.
- 36:14Right.
- 36:15And, and well balanced overall.
- 36:18And he,
- 36:18but he has those wheelhouses to
- 36:20allow him to have those
- 36:22holes so that he normally
- 36:23can make it through.
- 36:24I just don't remember this
- 36:27many machines when Dave did
- 36:28the programming throughout the season.
- 36:30Right.
- 36:31I think that's the biggest difference.
- 36:34Like we had two echo bikes
- 36:37this year and we had a row and we,
- 36:40Last year was even worse.
- 36:45Two air runners, two rows, an echo bite.
- 36:49It just seemed like Boz's
- 36:54programming leans more to machines.
- 36:57Agree.
- 37:00Which is surprising.
- 37:01You would think Boz would
- 37:02lean more towards gymnastics.
- 37:06Maybe he's overcompensating.
- 37:07Yeah.
- 37:12I just,
- 37:15draw your daggers question just
- 37:16made me kind of go down to,
- 37:22go down to all these lines
- 37:23of questions since we're there.
- 37:25But I just think like some
- 37:26of the things that like I
- 37:27would excel at or an athlete that has,
- 37:30you know,
- 37:31a lot of background in different sports,
- 37:32like aren't necessarily
- 37:33getting those things
- 37:34programmed at semifinals, you know,
- 37:36like a lot of agility stuff.
- 37:39sprinting, but not on a machine sprinting.
- 37:41That's more like power output,
- 37:42but just literally running
- 37:45sprint and stuff like that.
- 37:46You're just not seeing that
- 37:47at the semifinal.
- 37:49You would see that more at
- 37:50the games as a one-off event,
- 37:52like a 40-yard dash or
- 37:53something like that.
- 37:55Zigzag.
- 37:57Now you brought up something.
- 37:58This isn't even in our notes.
- 37:59We're totally off script now.
- 38:02Everybody's saying this
- 38:03thing about having a
- 38:05combine at Farrington Field
- 38:07on Friday night.
- 38:09that has nothing to do with
- 38:11the tradition of high
- 38:12school football in Texas.
- 38:16The combine is an NFL test.
- 38:19It has nothing to do with
- 38:21what goes on in high school
- 38:22football in the state of
- 38:24Texas where everybody comes out.
- 38:26It's a big family get together night.
- 38:30I would be supremely
- 38:32disappointed if what they
- 38:34chose to do that night is
- 38:37an NFL combine test.
- 38:40It just doesn't even make
- 38:40sense in my head.
- 38:46Yeah, I don't know.
- 38:50There's so many more things
- 38:51you can do with a track and
- 38:52a field that would be so
- 38:54much cooler than watching a
- 38:5640-yard dash and a bench
- 38:57press and a high jump.
- 39:01Yeah, and, like,
- 39:02while it's not very cool to watch,
- 39:04perhaps, like,
- 39:05I think those are tests that are, like,
- 39:08in my opinion,
- 39:08very important and
- 39:09necessary and underutilized in our sport,
- 39:13like,
- 39:14heavily underutilized in our sport
- 39:15in terms of fitness.
- 39:17And, like, most athletes out there, like,
- 39:20speed is, like,
- 39:21a very important factor in
- 39:26fitness and just stuff like
- 39:28that that you just won't see or just,
- 39:29like, rush
- 39:31powerlifting strength, right?
- 39:32Is there numbers that you
- 39:33can easily compare with different sports,
- 39:35long jumps, but I just don't know.
- 39:37Like,
- 39:38that's not probably the right event
- 39:39for if you're just going to
- 39:40go one time to that field,
- 39:42like you're probably not
- 39:43going to use that.
- 39:44Uh, like Henrik in his interview,
- 39:46he asked if he could use his, um,
- 39:49like track cleats and Dave said,
- 39:54bring them in case we have,
- 39:55they haven't said that they
- 39:57can't use them.
- 39:58So
- 39:59obviously something on the
- 40:00track probably that we'll see.
- 40:02And perhaps some of them
- 40:03that have the advantage of
- 40:04having those type of shoes
- 40:05might be able to use them.
- 40:09So my, I am not opposed to testing those,
- 40:12those skills, those NFL combine skills.
- 40:15I don't think you need to do
- 40:16it outside under the lights
- 40:18on a football field.
- 40:20Like that event needs to be
- 40:21bigger than that.
- 40:23You can do a lot of those
- 40:24events inside the arena.
- 40:27You just can't.
- 40:2940 yards is not very far.
- 40:31The thing is, it's the deceleration.
- 40:33You can't just go into a wall.
- 40:35If you do a proper 40-yard dash,
- 40:37you have to have plenty of
- 40:39space to... They have
- 40:40indoor track meets that
- 40:43have the padded wall that
- 40:44you just kind of jump into
- 40:47after it's done.
- 40:49You know,
- 40:49Yeah.
- 40:50But I think I think we'll
- 40:51see something else.
- 40:52I think you'll see a
- 40:52traditional like MGW type CrossFit,
- 40:56like monostructural weightlifting,
- 40:57gymnastics, something that I mean,
- 40:59like a benchmark workout
- 41:00that everyone can do.
- 41:04I think it'll be exciting.
- 41:06You think they're putting a
- 41:07rig up out there?
- 41:07They could.
- 41:11I just don't know how much.
- 41:14they're going to do to that field.
- 41:16Like what did they get approval for?
- 41:18They, you know,
- 41:19like bringing in a rig is a big ask.
- 41:23So it's, it's a lot of work for one event.
- 41:27Exactly.
- 41:29They could move like strongman implements,
- 41:31right?
- 41:31Like sleds or yolks or stuff like that,
- 41:35that anything that like
- 41:36could utilize the turf part.
- 41:38I think strongman is an
- 41:39awesome event on the field.
- 41:42That was a great event to watch.
- 41:45Great event.
- 41:46And instead of handstand
- 41:47push-up or handstand walk,
- 41:48you do something on the
- 41:49track in between each lift.
- 41:56High rocks.
- 41:56Make them run.
- 41:57All right.
- 42:01So let's get back to...
- 42:04We've already kind of dove into this.
- 42:05Nuggets from Dave's interviews.
- 42:08And I have a list here,
- 42:09and please jump in with
- 42:10anything you may have.
- 42:15So one thing that caught me,
- 42:17and there's been so many, and please,
- 42:21I was so freaking wrong
- 42:22about him getting through
- 42:23all 80 and saying he was only doing 18,
- 42:25because we're like well over 40 now.
- 42:27Yeah.
- 42:29First of all,
- 42:29how good are these interviews?
- 42:30They've been really fun to watch, hear,
- 42:34listen to.
- 42:35I think he's done a really
- 42:37good job of asking questions,
- 42:39getting to know the athletes.
- 42:42I'm getting excited hearing
- 42:44some of them that I don't know.
- 42:45Have you guys had a favorite interview?
- 42:52I'm so far behind.
- 42:53I have not even touched
- 42:55social media since Wednesday.
- 42:57If you just want to smile the whole time,
- 42:59watch the Bruno one.
- 43:01He just made me smile so much.
- 43:04I was just happy listening to him.
- 43:06It was like a kid on Christmas morning.
- 43:08I think he's my favorite.
- 43:10All right.
- 43:11I'll watch that one.
- 43:13He was so good.
- 43:20I like the people who push Dave.
- 43:23So I really like the Saxon one.
- 43:26I really like Laura's because of that.
- 43:30I liked even Gabby giving him crap,
- 43:34and we'll talk about that in a second.
- 43:39I just like those people
- 43:40that kind of push back.
- 43:42But the overarching thing
- 43:44I've loved the most,
- 43:45we get to know Dave better now, too.
- 43:48Not only are we meeting these athletes,
- 43:50he's actually proud of his
- 43:52daughter and her cross
- 43:53country and couldn't brag
- 43:55more about how good she is.
- 43:57I did like that one.
- 43:59And he's done that in three
- 44:00or four of them.
- 44:03So I think those pieces are really great.
- 44:07Sarah,
- 44:08I have that in my notes to talk about.
- 44:12Um, so yeah, there's just, I can't,
- 44:16I can't pick one.
- 44:17They're all like, I think really,
- 44:18really good.
- 44:21Um,
- 44:22but one thing that one nugget I'm going
- 44:24to start with is Saxon's
- 44:25interview with Dave in that
- 44:28Dave asked him if they
- 44:30split off teams and
- 44:31individual to separate seasons,
- 44:34would he do both?
- 44:37And Saxon said he would.
- 44:40That's all cool.
- 44:42But the bigger story is here,
- 44:44is there a plan to make two seasons,
- 44:47a team season and an individual season?
- 44:52I think you would have much better,
- 44:54obviously, athletes in the team.
- 44:57And I think a lot of the
- 44:58individuals would team up and do team.
- 45:00However, if you want to grow the sport,
- 45:04I think allowing more athletes to play
- 45:07to compete at the games
- 45:09level is very important.
- 45:10And it allows people like,
- 45:12if you have no chance,
- 45:14if it's only the games
- 45:14athletes competing
- 45:15individually and then super teams,
- 45:18a lot of athletes are going
- 45:19to get so discouraged.
- 45:20And I mean,
- 45:21it's going to push them to be better,
- 45:22but I just think in terms
- 45:23of growing the sport within
- 45:26all the affiliates,
- 45:29having athletes choose
- 45:31whether they want to be in
- 45:34the individual space or the
- 45:35team space allows for more
- 45:37people to play that's um my
- 45:40opinion but I think there's
- 45:42an opportunity to do like
- 45:43an invitational where it's
- 45:45kind of like or like the
- 45:47socal tier wadapalooza
- 45:50where you're gonna get that
- 45:52super team and stuff like that
- 45:55but allowing more affiliates
- 45:56to actually have affiliate teams,
- 45:58I think is important.
- 46:01Here's, here's my overall beef.
- 46:04CrossFit seems to want to be
- 46:06able to do everything themselves,
- 46:09but they have demonstrated
- 46:10that they are not capable
- 46:12of even like marketing
- 46:13their own season and
- 46:17And getting everything right
- 46:19in the one season that they have.
- 46:21Right.
- 46:22By making a second season.
- 46:23Now you're taking away the
- 46:25off season from the rogues
- 46:27and the water paloozas and
- 46:29the SoCal's and all of that.
- 46:32I don't want to see those go away.
- 46:33Right.
- 46:35Those guys do a great job in
- 46:37having those events.
- 46:39And that's the place where
- 46:42people get competition
- 46:43experience to make their
- 46:44run at the games.
- 46:47If you overlap a team season
- 46:49over top of that,
- 46:50those guys lose everything.
- 46:53They lose viewers.
- 46:54They lose all of that stuff.
- 46:57And I,
- 46:59as cool as it sounds theoretically
- 47:01that we would get a full
- 47:02year of the best athletes in the world,
- 47:06I think you're sacrificing
- 47:07way too much by doing it.
- 47:08Yeah.
- 47:09And that just piggybacks on
- 47:11top of what Carolyn said,
- 47:12where you're taking away
- 47:14opportunity from so many of
- 47:15these young athletes to get experience.
- 47:17Now double that by taking
- 47:19away their off-season
- 47:20events where they can actually do that.
- 47:25think about the transitions
- 47:26that teenagers can also have by, you know,
- 47:28that gap, those gap years where they,
- 47:31it's hard unless you're, you know,
- 47:32there's very few that have
- 47:33been able to make that
- 47:35transitions from the
- 47:36teenagers to the elites,
- 47:38but a lot of them choose to
- 47:39go teams and get that
- 47:41experience and stuff like that.
- 47:42So I think keeping that around is good.
- 47:48Yeah.
- 47:50Yeah.
- 47:52bruce brings up this point
- 47:53that I did not have in the
- 47:54notes how about laura
- 47:56asking about the games in
- 47:57europe and dave actually
- 47:59giving uh like a projection
- 48:01I don't know if so jamie
- 48:04apparently you didn't see
- 48:05this everyone he said that
- 48:07he is hoping that the 21st
- 48:09crossfit games will be in
- 48:11europe and they're on 18 2027 interesting
- 48:23So Laura was hopeful because
- 48:25she wants to be still
- 48:26competing when it happens.
- 48:28But yeah, very, that was a really,
- 48:33there's so many nuggets.
- 48:34We're going to miss some as
- 48:35we go through this for sure.
- 48:39Dave programmed individuals,
- 48:41Boz program teams.
- 48:43He brought that up that he
- 48:44just felt like he was in
- 48:45the flow and said, give me my space.
- 48:49Here we go.
- 48:50I'm doing all the individual programming.
- 48:52Boz, you take the teams.
- 48:54And we'll just kind of check
- 48:56in with each other,
- 48:57make sure everything's going okay.
- 49:02Thoughts on that?
- 49:08I mean,
- 49:09I'm excited to see what Dave brings out.
- 49:14I'm curious to see if any of Boz's...
- 49:19influence has rubbed off at
- 49:20all or if he's just going
- 49:21to go back to typical dave
- 49:24um yeah I'm curious to see
- 49:26what happens so here's
- 49:30here's my question and I
- 49:31and I'm fine with it if
- 49:33that's what he wants to do
- 49:34that's what he wants to do
- 49:35but when he left when he
- 49:37was fired last time he said
- 49:38the one thing he regretted
- 49:40is not having a plan in
- 49:41place for someone to take
- 49:43over what he's doing
- 49:46It sounds to me like he's
- 49:47just reverted back to what
- 49:49it was before the firing.
- 49:52Yep.
- 49:53And maybe there is a place
- 49:55where they're talking about
- 49:56stuff enough where he is
- 49:58mentoring while he's like
- 49:59explaining why he's doing the stuff.
- 50:02Like, we don't know that for sure,
- 50:04but that's my only fear about it.
- 50:07Yeah.
- 50:10Yeah, I mean, to say give me my space,
- 50:14let me just go do my thing, like, yeah,
- 50:16that's kind of a problem a little bit.
- 50:20I would really like for one
- 50:22of the athletes to ask,
- 50:23because he says that he
- 50:24didn't really follow the 2022 games,
- 50:27but just ask him about his
- 50:30opinion of the last few
- 50:32years of games and how Boz
- 50:33did and what elements that
- 50:34he liked that Boz did and
- 50:37what would he have done differently?
- 50:38Just something like that,
- 50:39I think would be an interesting question.
- 50:41I don't know if anyone would
- 50:42go there with their question.
- 50:44But that would be an
- 50:45interesting one to to know the answer to,
- 50:47because, I mean,
- 50:49those two have worked so
- 50:50close for so many years.
- 50:52And there are things that
- 50:53Boz put in place that I
- 50:55think are here to stay and, you know,
- 50:59and that they were good for the sport.
- 51:00So I hope that they're
- 51:02working together because I think.
- 51:04Both of them have really good ideas,
- 51:06and I think in a teamwork fashion,
- 51:10you can always do a little
- 51:10bit better and less tunnel
- 51:12vision of maybe certain
- 51:14biases that you can have.
- 51:15I think they could balance
- 51:17each other a little bit better.
- 51:19But we'll see what the games are like.
- 51:20Dave has programmed
- 51:21tremendous games in the past.
- 51:23I expect nothing less.
- 51:24You said that this one's not
- 51:25going to be the hardest one
- 51:27that he has ever programmed,
- 51:30but that it will be a great test.
- 51:35Yeah.
- 51:35I think also the one thing,
- 51:38and Dave said to Abby Domet that every,
- 51:43every athlete at this level
- 51:44should have a coach because
- 51:46you have blind spots as an
- 51:47athlete and you need
- 51:49someone to make sure that
- 51:50you take care of those blind spots.
- 51:52And also you need someone to
- 51:54make sure like just finite movements,
- 51:56right?
- 51:57Well, as a programmer,
- 51:59don't you have the same blind spots?
- 52:01Don't you have... So it'd be
- 52:04interesting to see what
- 52:06those discussions are with Adrian.
- 52:08That's the piece that would
- 52:10level this out if those are
- 52:12good constructive feedback both ways.
- 52:16But like you said, Jamie, when you say,
- 52:18give me my space, let me do my thing,
- 52:22that doesn't sound like that.
- 52:25Yeah.
- 52:25Who knows?
- 52:29um then there was another
- 52:32one craig uh emma lawson
- 52:36talked about mental health
- 52:36with dave it was very
- 52:38interesting I added the
- 52:39very because it was I'm
- 52:41only two that's the one I'm
- 52:42on right now it would and
- 52:45if when I'm done I'm caught
- 52:46up by thinking let's see it
- 52:48releases more as we're on
- 52:49um I found this fascinating
- 52:52that she brought it up
- 52:54he followed up with it and
- 52:56they went down the path of
- 52:58what she was thinking this year.
- 53:01And she said that it,
- 53:03that she stopped having fun
- 53:04and it became too much
- 53:06pressure and too much.
- 53:09And that she needs to work
- 53:10through how to make it fun
- 53:12again and not put so much
- 53:16pressure and not so much of
- 53:20her wellbeing or worth on
- 53:22the leaderboard.
- 53:24Yeah.
- 53:26This is also,
- 53:27this is also her first year that,
- 53:29you know,
- 53:30she just graduated last year
- 53:31from high school.
- 53:33And this is the first year
- 53:34where she doesn't have that
- 53:36other activity or that
- 53:37other thing to get her mind
- 53:39off of CrossFit and, you know,
- 53:40being with different people away,
- 53:42like in the space.
- 53:43So it probably makes her
- 53:45think more and puts the
- 53:47pressure even more on her performance,
- 53:48especially because she did
- 53:50so well last year,
- 53:51having the leader's jersey for a
- 53:53good majority of the games
- 53:54and being so close being
- 53:55with the second place.
- 53:57Like, I wonder if, you know,
- 53:58just being all in this year
- 54:00for like literally all in,
- 54:02not having anything else on her plate,
- 54:03whether that just is like
- 54:05putting this extra pressure
- 54:08that she didn't have when
- 54:09she was in school.
- 54:11Yeah.
- 54:12And she did say all the pressure is,
- 54:14is from her.
- 54:16Nobody in her camp is
- 54:17putting that pressure on her.
- 54:19Nobody in her family.
- 54:20It's all her.
- 54:22Mm-hmm.
- 54:24So yeah, that was really good as well.
- 54:28So the next thing, uh,
- 54:29next nugget is during the Tia interview,
- 54:31uh,
- 54:33there was something cut right out of
- 54:36the middle.
- 54:37Oh, really?
- 54:38Uh,
- 54:38barbell spin posted on Instagram with
- 54:41the actual, where the cut was.
- 54:44And I immediately responded.
- 54:45That's exactly what I
- 54:46thought when I was watching it myself.
- 54:49There is a piece cut out of
- 54:50the middle of the TIA interview.
- 54:53It's the only interview
- 54:54where there's any cut.
- 54:58And like, like I said earlier,
- 54:59he was on with Alex Kazan
- 55:02with six minutes of
- 55:03technical issues and that didn't get cut.
- 55:08So what the hell happened or
- 55:10was said that had to be cut
- 55:13out of the middle of that interview?
- 55:16Very interesting.
- 55:19Yeah, it makes you go, hmm.
- 55:24It sucks because it's with Tia, right?
- 55:27Had it been with any other athlete,
- 55:29you don't think twice about it.
- 55:30You're like, oh,
- 55:31someone's call dropped or
- 55:33something like that.
- 55:34But it's the fact that the
- 55:36cut happened with that
- 55:37particular interview that
- 55:38it just speculates stuff.
- 55:39Now, I don't think that there was anything,
- 55:42but it's another
- 55:43opportunity for people to
- 55:45talk about things that
- 55:47could have been said or deleted.
- 55:50It's because of who she is, I think.
- 55:53Of anybody who doesn't need any help,
- 55:56it's her.
- 55:59Right?
- 56:00If you were to cut out some
- 56:03of the issues from the other interviews,
- 56:05I wouldn't have thought twice about it.
- 56:07Right.
- 56:08But because this one... Yeah.
- 56:13And the way it comes back, he's like, well,
- 56:17let's get back on...
- 56:19track and blah, blah, blah.
- 56:26So just, I just found it odd.
- 56:32And again,
- 56:34it's just those things that make
- 56:35you go that when there's
- 56:38already trust issues,
- 56:40those are things you don't want to see.
- 56:46So anyway,
- 56:50Yeah, that's what... Dave said,
- 56:52let's change the subject.
- 56:54That's the words he said.
- 56:58So, anyway, Bruce thinks it's nothing.
- 57:02I don't think it's nothing.
- 57:04I think it's nothing,
- 57:05but I want to tell myself it's nothing.
- 57:11Yeah.
- 57:12I want it to be nothing.
- 57:15I truly want it to be nothing.
- 57:17It's just...
- 57:18why only cut that out of the
- 57:2040 whatever you've done
- 57:22right because they're like
- 57:27if I was doing them there
- 57:28were things I would cut to
- 57:32like that alex kazan one
- 57:33like I almost turned it off
- 57:34it was so bad with her
- 57:36internet um and I would
- 57:40have cut a lot of that
- 57:41before releasing it but uh
- 57:45craig says it's something
- 57:48Agreed, Craig.
- 57:51All right.
- 57:52The next thing I have on my
- 57:53notes is Korean women with
- 57:55the interpreter.
- 58:00I thought that was awesome.
- 58:11Sorry.
- 58:13I thought it was awesome
- 58:16with the Korean women because
- 58:19With Rosa and Roman,
- 58:22there was so much
- 58:23speculation about it
- 58:24actually being accurate or this or that.
- 58:27There was no question with
- 58:28these ladies that it was
- 58:30definitely accurate.
- 58:31You saw it really good.
- 58:35I thought it was really cool
- 58:37to get to know these two.
- 58:38And Chung Young Choi is a
- 58:41really good athlete.
- 58:42To be able to learn about
- 58:44her past and how she got
- 58:46here and all the stuff
- 58:47she's going through,
- 58:48I thought was awesome.
- 58:51Did you guys see either of those?
- 58:54Yeah, I watched those two.
- 58:56I mean, I'm all caught up right now.
- 58:57Unless he posted some during this.
- 58:59I'm all caught up.
- 59:00I've been watching all of them.
- 59:02Been enjoying them.
- 59:04But yeah,
- 59:04the translator was the same for both.
- 59:06And I think she works for CrossFit.
- 59:09Yeah, she owns an affiliate in Korea.
- 59:12And she's a red shirt.
- 59:15Oh, wow.
- 59:17Yeah.
- 59:18That's the translator.
- 59:19So that was really cool.
- 59:22Oh, the translator is a red shirt?
- 59:25Yeah.
- 59:26Oh, okay.
- 59:28So I thought that was cool
- 59:29that Dave had resources to
- 59:30be able to have a translator.
- 59:32Yeah.
- 59:34The coolest part of them was
- 59:35they're both in Cookville right now.
- 59:37They're both Mayhem athletes.
- 59:38And the question was,
- 59:39how do you get around in Cookville,
- 59:42like getting groceries and
- 59:44ordering food and not speak the language?
- 59:48And Shung Young Choi says,
- 59:52Google Translate.
- 59:53Because they do not have a
- 59:55translator with them in Cookville.
- 59:59I'm glad they have each other, though.
- 1:00:01That would help.
- 1:00:04And the question was, are they friends?
- 1:00:07And I guess in Korean, friends,
- 1:00:09there's a double meaning.
- 1:00:11And so the translator had to go deeper.
- 1:00:14But they are friends' friends.
- 1:00:17Like we...
- 1:00:19They've known each other for five years.
- 1:00:21Went to a training camp
- 1:00:22together back in 19.
- 1:00:24And have been friends ever since.
- 1:00:27That's cool.
- 1:00:31Super cool.
- 1:00:34Then the Gabby Magawa
- 1:00:36interview where she calls
- 1:00:37out Dave for canceling her
- 1:00:38interview to book Laura.
- 1:00:41And they were both at
- 1:00:42Krypton at the same time.
- 1:00:44So they saw it all happen as
- 1:00:47he was canceling one for the other.
- 1:00:50oh wow and gabby did not let
- 1:00:53him get away with it good I
- 1:00:55love their friendship yeah
- 1:00:59and and I love how in
- 1:01:00laura's interview she was
- 1:01:02like oh um yeah I'm
- 1:01:04training with my brother's
- 1:01:06girlfriend instead of
- 1:01:07saying like gabby or like
- 1:01:10her best friend it was just
- 1:01:11like a little little poke
- 1:01:12at her I thought that was
- 1:01:13funny yeah yeah I feel like
- 1:01:17gabby is becoming more like laura
- 1:01:21100%.
- 1:01:22If you close your eyes,
- 1:01:23I don't know if I could
- 1:01:25tell them apart vocally.
- 1:01:28They seem to have a very
- 1:01:31similar sense of humor as well.
- 1:01:33Yeah,
- 1:01:35you can just tell that they've clicked.
- 1:01:37They've clicked.
- 1:01:38They've just clicked as friends,
- 1:01:42as training partners.
- 1:01:44Even like the way that they
- 1:01:45do their posts is very similar.
- 1:01:47And they both have each
- 1:01:49their little hashtags that
- 1:01:51they always use.
- 1:01:52Yeah,
- 1:01:54I think she's learning a lot from Laura.
- 1:01:56And she said that in her interview,
- 1:01:58how much she's learned from
- 1:01:59Laura and grown as an
- 1:02:01athlete from moving to
- 1:02:03Hungary and training with
- 1:02:04her every single day.
- 1:02:09Yeah, I thought it was really cool.
- 1:02:11I'm trying to pull up
- 1:02:12something on Instagram I saw today.
- 1:02:18Just thinking of this off
- 1:02:19the top of my head.
- 1:02:22I know we're not supposed to, like,
- 1:02:24judge things on the looks
- 1:02:25of an athlete or whatever.
- 1:02:29But I'm sharing the screen.
- 1:02:32Laura looks ready.
- 1:02:38And the caption, too.
- 1:02:42The caption is, however it goes,
- 1:02:43it will end with me winning.
- 1:02:49she looks so ready oh my
- 1:02:54goodness like yeah you wait
- 1:02:57as you're scrolling and
- 1:02:58then you see something like
- 1:02:58this and you're just
- 1:02:59stopping like oh my gosh
- 1:03:03she does look like she's
- 1:03:04leaned out wow anyway
- 1:03:12I know that fitness is more
- 1:03:14than just how you look.
- 1:03:15It is how you perform.
- 1:03:16But she has shown she can
- 1:03:17perform really well.
- 1:03:19So that's crazy.
- 1:03:25So next, Emily Rolfe asked Dave,
- 1:03:31what's the workout that he
- 1:03:32feels like he messed up the most?
- 1:03:37Draw your daggers just
- 1:03:38trying to poke the bear.
- 1:03:39Looks like a silver medal.
- 1:03:45Um, so Emily, we're all fast.
- 1:03:48And what is the one work?
- 1:03:49What's the workout you were,
- 1:03:50you messed up that you wish
- 1:03:51you like had to do over.
- 1:03:54And Dave actually started a laundry list.
- 1:03:57Wow.
- 1:03:59And what I,
- 1:03:59what I found fascinating with it and is,
- 1:04:01and with any person who is
- 1:04:03great at what they do,
- 1:04:05You don't hear the compliments.
- 1:04:08You only hear the criticism.
- 1:04:09You always beat yourself up.
- 1:04:12You're always looking to be
- 1:04:13better at this and that.
- 1:04:15And Dave just demonstrated
- 1:04:16that by answering that
- 1:04:17question the way he did.
- 1:04:18That's good.
- 1:04:24And I thought it was really
- 1:04:25cool how much he went into it.
- 1:04:31And the reason I said that I
- 1:04:32think Emily and Ariel
- 1:04:33talked is that Ariel,
- 1:04:35it might have been the vice versa,
- 1:04:36I don't remember what order, asked,
- 1:04:38how do you measure success
- 1:04:40of your performance at the games?
- 1:04:45And Dave's answer was that
- 1:04:47if the events all go as planned,
- 1:04:52and he always uses the same example,
- 1:04:54when Tia broke the test, that upset him.
- 1:04:57And he listed that as one of his mess-ups.
- 1:05:01And he said the reason that
- 1:05:02was a big mess up is Tia
- 1:05:03did two minutes of work and
- 1:05:05everybody else did nine.
- 1:05:07Right.
- 1:05:09And that can't happen.
- 1:05:11And so he was like,
- 1:05:14success is that all the
- 1:05:16testing is correct and that
- 1:05:18everything plays out the
- 1:05:19way it should on the floor,
- 1:05:22regardless of the winner,
- 1:05:23regardless of all that stuff,
- 1:05:25that it plays out in the right way,
- 1:05:28which I thought was really cool.
- 1:05:33Um, the next thing I, I said,
- 1:05:37and then this kind of got messed up today,
- 1:05:40maybe, uh,
- 1:05:41is he's mentioned a lot of swimming,
- 1:05:43a lot of cycling and a lot
- 1:05:45of cross country.
- 1:05:47And to me,
- 1:05:47those three things add up to
- 1:05:49some kind of triathlon.
- 1:05:52Then today someone asked him
- 1:05:54about triathlon.
- 1:05:55I think it was Linda Keisman
- 1:05:57and he like totally dogged the triathlon.
- 1:06:01said that when he was a SEAL,
- 1:06:03they made fun of triathletes,
- 1:06:05that they just felt it was silly,
- 1:06:06the three together.
- 1:06:08And he said that he likes
- 1:06:09all the tests separate,
- 1:06:11but does not like them as one test.
- 1:06:15He's done it before, obviously,
- 1:06:17at the games, but a different order.
- 1:06:21You could see that again, or like a run,
- 1:06:22swim, run, or bike, swim, run.
- 1:06:27Yeah.
- 1:06:28Something of a different order.
- 1:06:32Yeah, but yeah, a lot,
- 1:06:33a lot of benchmarks asking
- 1:06:35everyone about their benchmarks.
- 1:06:36So it makes me think like as
- 1:06:38as we get more info on the events,
- 1:06:40I'd be interested to see
- 1:06:41whether it's a benchmark
- 1:06:43games and if we could see
- 1:06:47something like that or where there's,
- 1:06:48you know,
- 1:06:48multiple benchmarks being performed.
- 1:06:53Cindy has been mentioned quite a bit.
- 1:06:55Yeah.
- 1:06:56Yeah.
- 1:06:57Yeah.
- 1:07:02You think that's a judgeable event?
- 1:07:05No.
- 1:07:08I watched him do a version
- 1:07:12with Bailey Rail.
- 1:07:13I was trying to see on her
- 1:07:15YouTube channel whether
- 1:07:16there was any hints or
- 1:07:17anything like that.
- 1:07:18They did a bar muscle-up push-up,
- 1:07:21or burpee it was, I think they switched,
- 1:07:23and then a sandbag up a hill.
- 1:07:26He talked about the workout, Cindy,
- 1:07:28and how you can't really judge
- 1:07:30the push-up and even the air
- 1:07:32squat would be tough to
- 1:07:33judge in that video so when
- 1:07:36I watched that I was like
- 1:07:37oh so it can't be Cindy at
- 1:07:38the games that's that's how
- 1:07:40I looked at that
- 1:07:41conversation from the video
- 1:07:43yeah yeah I just think it'd
- 1:07:47be very similar to like
- 1:07:47Mary and and Mary was so
- 1:07:50good at the games Mary was
- 1:07:52good yeah Mary gave me
- 1:07:55rhabdo but it was a good event
- 1:08:01Well, and you had two epic performances,
- 1:08:04like one on each side.
- 1:08:06So it made it like this.
- 1:08:10Nobody's ever going to
- 1:08:10forget Noah and Carrie's
- 1:08:12performance in that event.
- 1:08:13Right.
- 1:08:15And that's why it's great.
- 1:08:17Was it the workout itself or
- 1:08:19was it the performances by the athletes?
- 1:08:21And I think that's where
- 1:08:22Dave's analogy of when you're programming,
- 1:08:25it's a test to make the athletes...
- 1:08:29show their stuff right like
- 1:08:31they're the stars not the
- 1:08:33programming you just have
- 1:08:34to give them the right test
- 1:08:35to be able to do it oh my
- 1:08:42god this would be horrible
- 1:08:44you could set up an assault
- 1:08:45runner on one side of of an
- 1:08:47indoor pool and an echo
- 1:08:48bike on the other side that
- 1:08:50would be the most boring
- 1:08:51event to watch ever I would
- 1:08:56like to see swimming stuff
- 1:08:59come back from the 2020
- 1:09:00games that they did because
- 1:09:02a lot of the athletes that
- 1:09:03competed there the five and
- 1:09:05five um said how hard that
- 1:09:07event was and it's too bad
- 1:09:08that that event was used on
- 1:09:10only 10 athletes instead of
- 1:09:11a full field of athletes um
- 1:09:14because I think that was a
- 1:09:16cool event not that I would
- 1:09:17want to do it because I'm
- 1:09:17not a great swimmer but I
- 1:09:18think that would be a good
- 1:09:19one to um to watch yeah I
- 1:09:24like that event I didn't
- 1:09:25like the d-ball part
- 1:09:27I think if they swapped that
- 1:09:28out for something different,
- 1:09:31I would be cool with it.
- 1:09:33Even just a sandbag squat or
- 1:09:35something like that.
- 1:09:37But the D-ball was hard to judge,
- 1:09:38and there was controversy around that.
- 1:09:40We don't need that.
- 1:09:41But what I did love is the
- 1:09:46building effect on the swim.
- 1:09:51Like each time through the swim,
- 1:09:52if you were not a good swimmer,
- 1:09:54it took its effect on you
- 1:09:56as you move forward.
- 1:09:57Yep.
- 1:10:00So, um, then I, I,
- 1:10:04I watched the Linda Keesman
- 1:10:06and I'm talking about this.
- 1:10:07She's had a lot.
- 1:10:08Um, and I, and I thought, oh my gosh,
- 1:10:11she's trying to make Carolyn's argument.
- 1:10:14it just got lost I think in
- 1:10:17the accent and the
- 1:10:19technical pause ups about
- 1:10:22you're letting these people
- 1:10:23from other regions
- 1:10:24accumulate points at the
- 1:10:28games and semifinals and
- 1:10:30then there are better
- 1:10:31athletes not making it to
- 1:10:33the games and she asked the
- 1:10:35question do you think
- 1:10:37There's a way to get it.
- 1:10:41It's easy.
- 1:10:41She said,
- 1:10:42is it easier to make the games
- 1:10:43from some regions other than others,
- 1:10:48which for a rookie to be
- 1:10:50that ballsy to ask that question?
- 1:10:51I was like, yes, that is awesome.
- 1:10:55And then she tried to
- 1:10:56actually make Carolyn's
- 1:10:57argument about the points
- 1:10:59and how it's going to have
- 1:11:00a compound compounding effect over time.
- 1:11:06Did he have a response?
- 1:11:09he kind of skirted her
- 1:11:11question and answered another one.
- 1:11:13Oh, geez.
- 1:11:15He did mention that like
- 1:11:16representation from each, um,
- 1:11:18region is important, which I've,
- 1:11:21I've always thought that
- 1:11:21that was important as well.
- 1:11:23We didn't say go to zero.
- 1:11:24We said go to one.
- 1:11:25Yeah.
- 1:11:26Go to one.
- 1:11:26Right.
- 1:11:27Um, and then he said, would Europe, uh,
- 1:11:30be better with two regions?
- 1:11:32Yes, but they're just not there yet.
- 1:11:33And he said that in the past,
- 1:11:35they had a better way of
- 1:11:36getting people to the games.
- 1:11:39Um,
- 1:11:40and they're just not quite
- 1:11:42at the right formula right now of things.
- 1:11:45But that's essentially what he said.
- 1:11:47Yeah.
- 1:11:52Like everyone knows that
- 1:11:54it's not necessarily the
- 1:11:56top 40 in the world.
- 1:11:57You could have a top,
- 1:11:57like a better top 40 in the world.
- 1:11:59But I think with him saying
- 1:12:01that they want that representation,
- 1:12:03then they're okay with this
- 1:12:05being the top 40 with the
- 1:12:06representation from every region.
- 1:12:08And I think that's where his mind is.
- 1:12:10And if that's their intention,
- 1:12:11then they got like,
- 1:12:12they're getting what they're,
- 1:12:14what they're wanting.
- 1:12:17So Bruce says,
- 1:12:17not everyone at the Olympics
- 1:12:19deserves to be there, but they are.
- 1:12:20We are not big enough to be in Olympics.
- 1:12:24The Olympics takes like
- 1:12:25hundreds of athletes in a
- 1:12:27field and cuts it down as
- 1:12:28the week goes on.
- 1:12:31CrossFit's taking 40.
- 1:12:33And we're not getting people
- 1:12:34from every country.
- 1:12:35We're getting it from
- 1:12:36continents because we're
- 1:12:37just not big enough.
- 1:12:39And to try to fit CrossFit's
- 1:12:41model into an Olympic model
- 1:12:42is just insane.
- 1:12:45We're not there.
- 1:12:45We're not even close to there.
- 1:12:49You can get global
- 1:12:50representation in other ways.
- 1:12:53We can maybe get into this next week,
- 1:12:54but Matt O'Keefe had a
- 1:12:56brilliant plan on death by
- 1:13:01brilliant plan.
- 1:13:03It was so good.
- 1:13:05Um,
- 1:13:06and it was a way for people to have
- 1:13:08hope to build and grow and
- 1:13:10get better and better to
- 1:13:11eventually make it to like the top tier.
- 1:13:14Yeah.
- 1:13:14Yeah.
- 1:13:16basically have tiers of
- 1:13:18levels of athletes and you
- 1:13:20make it to the top tier.
- 1:13:22You're at the games next year.
- 1:13:24You go to CrossFit
- 1:13:24sanctioned events that are
- 1:13:26a different level,
- 1:13:27but you can accumulate
- 1:13:28points and get better and
- 1:13:29better and move up the ranks.
- 1:13:31Um, and so it was, it was really good.
- 1:13:36I probably needs tweaked a tad bit,
- 1:13:37but it was really good.
- 1:13:41Uh, try your dagger guys.
- 1:13:43The points are like shrewd bucks.
- 1:13:47I'm not an office fan,
- 1:13:48so I don't know what that means.
- 1:13:50I know who Dwight Schrute is,
- 1:13:52and I have seen a lot of episodes.
- 1:13:53I just have never watched
- 1:13:54the show straight through.
- 1:14:02So anyway, there's that.
- 1:14:03And then one thing that I
- 1:14:07thought was cool was when
- 1:14:08athletes were asked who
- 1:14:09they look up to or who their hero was,
- 1:14:13so many people said Rich Froning.
- 1:14:16That's awesome.
- 1:14:17And I think that we always
- 1:14:19have this debate,
- 1:14:19who is the greater athlete?
- 1:14:22And I always argue that it's
- 1:14:23Rich for what he's done.
- 1:14:26He's the most impactful athlete,
- 1:14:30that's for sure.
- 1:14:31Correct.
- 1:14:32Not only as an athlete,
- 1:14:33but as what your potential
- 1:14:34can be as an athlete in
- 1:14:36terms of a business and
- 1:14:39just everything that he stands for.
- 1:14:42He's grown his brand so much.
- 1:14:46When he's an affiliate owner,
- 1:14:48he was a seminar staff member.
- 1:14:50Like he, he did all the things right.
- 1:14:53He's a part of the,
- 1:14:54he's continuously a part of
- 1:14:55the community.
- 1:14:58And I've never,
- 1:14:59ever seen him be mean to a
- 1:15:01person behind backstage in the crowd,
- 1:15:07whatever.
- 1:15:08Like he always takes time.
- 1:15:11And so anyway,
- 1:15:12I just thought that was really cool.
- 1:15:14Because he hasn't competed
- 1:15:15as an individual in 10 years.
- 1:15:18Right.
- 1:15:19And they're still listing him.
- 1:15:25And then the last note I
- 1:15:26have is the Moritz Fiebig interview.
- 1:15:31If CrossFit does not take that video,
- 1:15:34chop it up,
- 1:15:35and make a marketing campaign around it,
- 1:15:38they are making a massive mistake.
- 1:15:47What did he say?
- 1:15:50He talked, he's an affiliate owner.
- 1:15:52Okay.
- 1:15:53He's a coach.
- 1:15:55And he talked about the
- 1:15:57athletes that come into his
- 1:15:58gym that are out of the
- 1:15:59office and out of shape and
- 1:16:01just trying to like live
- 1:16:02their life again.
- 1:16:03Like all this,
- 1:16:05all the cool shit we talked
- 1:16:06about in 2012.
- 1:16:10right here's this guy going
- 1:16:11to the crossfit games but
- 1:16:13what makes his day is when
- 1:16:15this 55 year old dude comes
- 1:16:17into his gym and gets his
- 1:16:18first strict pull-up right
- 1:16:23yeah that should be out on
- 1:16:25instagram tonight go clip it
- 1:16:32they haven't uh the games
- 1:16:34site has our games
- 1:16:35instagram has been posting
- 1:16:37more in the last week or so
- 1:16:39of different athletes and
- 1:16:41stuff like that they've
- 1:16:42still yet to post a single
- 1:16:43clip of the dave castro
- 1:16:45interviews I would like to
- 1:16:46see them you know reshare
- 1:16:48at least clips of it uh I
- 1:16:49know hillar did you know
- 1:16:51some of it tagging crossfit
- 1:16:52to facilitate it even more for them
- 1:16:56uh they didn't you know uh
- 1:16:58accept the the what do you
- 1:17:01what do you call it just
- 1:17:02the tagging of the videos
- 1:17:04but I hope it's in the
- 1:17:05works for them to use
- 1:17:07different clips of um the
- 1:17:09interviews because there's
- 1:17:10a lot of great stuff within
- 1:17:11those interviews for people
- 1:17:13to know uh the athletes more and
- 1:17:16much larger platform
- 1:17:17obviously the crossfit
- 1:17:18games um instagram then
- 1:17:20dave castro's uh youtube
- 1:17:22channel that just you know
- 1:17:23like we're seeing it but if
- 1:17:25you want more people to see
- 1:17:26it it has to be shared by
- 1:17:27the crossfit games that has
- 1:17:28almost three million
- 1:17:29followers so I i have
- 1:17:32noticed that like we've
- 1:17:34been dogging crossfit for
- 1:17:35no posts their instagram
- 1:17:37has been flooded with these
- 1:17:39single shots of an athlete
- 1:17:40coming down a floor
- 1:17:42Like from the games last
- 1:17:44year and from semifinals,
- 1:17:48finally something used of
- 1:17:51those 50 people on the floor taking shots,
- 1:17:53we're finally getting
- 1:17:54something put out there.
- 1:17:56But it doesn't tell a story.
- 1:17:59It's just highlighting one
- 1:18:00person coming down the
- 1:18:01floor to finish an event.
- 1:18:03Like,
- 1:18:05And then that thing they put
- 1:18:07out today with Jeff Adler
- 1:18:09and Roman Krennikoff
- 1:18:10running at the syndicate crown,
- 1:18:14putting script of the
- 1:18:17Terminator over it like
- 1:18:22Roman is the Terminator and
- 1:18:23Jeff Adler is like,
- 1:18:26what the hell was that?
- 1:18:31I will find Sarah Connor.
- 1:18:33Like, what?
- 1:18:36Weird.
- 1:18:39I'm glad they're posting things.
- 1:18:41It is an improvement.
- 1:18:44I just want to see, like you said,
- 1:18:45the stories, right?
- 1:18:46Like we want those stories.
- 1:18:48We want those stories to be shared.
- 1:18:50I think this is at least a
- 1:18:53huge step versus what
- 1:18:54they've been posting, which is nothing.
- 1:18:58The quality of the videos
- 1:18:59and stuff is good.
- 1:19:01It's just let's get the stories now.
- 1:19:05if you would have posted
- 1:19:06that Terminator thing after the games,
- 1:19:10then it makes sense because
- 1:19:12they just had their beef, right?
- 1:19:16We're a year later that
- 1:19:17they've reconciled and
- 1:19:19they've been chummy.
- 1:19:20And now you put it out.
- 1:19:23Like when you're doing reels,
- 1:19:24it has to be timely, right?
- 1:19:27Like, and it's,
- 1:19:29it just isn't making sense.
- 1:19:38The rest of it has been better, though.
- 1:19:42Overall.
- 1:19:44Better.
- 1:19:45That one was a fail.
- 1:19:48But the rest of them are...
- 1:19:50I'm a 54-year-old dude.
- 1:19:53Like,
- 1:19:53I am so out of the loop on what is...
- 1:19:59Like, my shit looks better than that.
- 1:20:05And I'm one guy with a
- 1:20:07little laptop at 54 years
- 1:20:09old putting together stuff.
- 1:20:11Come on.
- 1:20:14Sorry.
- 1:20:16That just, that was awful.
- 1:20:21Speaking of awful,
- 1:20:23Chad was released this week.
- 1:20:29Oh, yes.
- 1:20:33What are your thoughts?
- 1:20:38I mean,
- 1:20:38it's got to be stepovers or there's
- 1:20:41going to be all kinds of judging fiascos.
- 1:20:48I think it's a long... I don't know.
- 1:20:50I don't think it's going to
- 1:20:51be as straightforward as
- 1:20:52Chad as we know it.
- 1:20:56There's not...
- 1:20:59There's got to be a way to
- 1:21:01make that one progress and
- 1:21:02make sense and be a little
- 1:21:04bit more interesting to watch.
- 1:21:06Whether it's something in
- 1:21:07between rounds or going and
- 1:21:09picking up a different rucksack.
- 1:21:11I don't know.
- 1:21:12Maybe they change the weight
- 1:21:13each hundred or something
- 1:21:15and do something different.
- 1:21:15Yeah.
- 1:21:19Do you think a step-up is
- 1:21:20harder to judge than an air squat?
- 1:21:22I don't think a step-up is
- 1:21:24that hard to judge.
- 1:21:25I just think that having a
- 1:21:27live judge there that can
- 1:21:29give... The problem is it
- 1:21:31needs to be consistent between each lane.
- 1:21:34That's probably the biggest issue.
- 1:21:36I think you could see
- 1:21:37something after 10 rounds of...
- 1:21:42up 100 and in between you
- 1:21:44could see something yeah
- 1:21:45just to break the flow of
- 1:21:47it um but I think by
- 1:21:49breaking the flow you you
- 1:21:50break sometimes the mental
- 1:21:52toughness of what that
- 1:21:53workout is so I don't know
- 1:21:55right like those step overs
- 1:21:56would be an easy fix um but
- 1:22:01like I don't think step ups
- 1:22:02are that ridiculous to judge or that hard
- 1:22:07to judge in general, but I just don't,
- 1:22:10the consistency between lanes.
- 1:22:13It'll be the consistency.
- 1:22:14And I actually think the
- 1:22:15workout would be
- 1:22:16drastically different being step overs.
- 1:22:18Like there's something to
- 1:22:20that standing up tall every rep.
- 1:22:26So I don't have a problem
- 1:22:27with the workout or a test.
- 1:22:29I think when watching his
- 1:22:32interviews and talking
- 1:22:33about the mental test that
- 1:22:35he wants to test, I get that.
- 1:22:38I totally get that.
- 1:22:40But from a spectator's point of view,
- 1:22:43don't make this a primetime event.
- 1:22:46Right.
- 1:22:48Make this early in the
- 1:22:49morning when people aren't
- 1:22:50getting there yet or something.
- 1:22:52Because I think it's just...
- 1:22:57So that's the crux of the issue.
- 1:23:00I think it's a good test.
- 1:23:01I think it is like,
- 1:23:03can you keep focused
- 1:23:04through the monotony of the
- 1:23:05same thing over and over again?
- 1:23:07Can you stay focused?
- 1:23:08Because you're all at this
- 1:23:10level where little things
- 1:23:12are going to matter.
- 1:23:15But don't force people to
- 1:23:18watch an hour of step-ups.
- 1:23:21I watched the whole marathon row.
- 1:23:23I did too.
- 1:23:23And I, I enjoyed, I love,
- 1:23:25I love the marathon row.
- 1:23:26I was in the stands.
- 1:23:28I was like, Oh,
- 1:23:28I'm going to go out and do
- 1:23:29something in between.
- 1:23:30I ended up staying in my seat.
- 1:23:31I think the whole three hours I did too.
- 1:23:33I was like stuck on the race,
- 1:23:35watching the little things
- 1:23:37randomly on my phone, listening to the,
- 1:23:39um, commentators at that point.
- 1:23:42Uh,
- 1:23:43think you're gonna see a
- 1:23:44bunch of boxes and you'll
- 1:23:46see you'll still see the
- 1:23:47race and the real fans are
- 1:23:49gonna are gonna watch it's
- 1:23:51not gonna be great for
- 1:23:52other people uh I've done
- 1:23:54this workout I think three
- 1:23:55times it's a hard test
- 1:23:57mentally um it's long the
- 1:24:01calves were sore after just
- 1:24:02from the eccentric loading
- 1:24:05Um, the first time I did it,
- 1:24:06I remember my calves were really sore.
- 1:24:08The second time my quads were more sore,
- 1:24:11but yeah, it's, it's, uh,
- 1:24:14it's a good test.
- 1:24:16I've never done it like
- 1:24:18racing as much as like what
- 1:24:20they'll be doing.
- 1:24:21Like I just did it, um, to do like,
- 1:24:25I've always been of the
- 1:24:26opinion that hero workouts are
- 1:24:29in a competition.
- 1:24:29Like,
- 1:24:30I don't know that we need to race
- 1:24:32hero workouts.
- 1:24:32I think what they were designed for was to,
- 1:24:36um, do them, you know, suffer and, um,
- 1:24:40and do them for that person
- 1:24:41thinking about that person
- 1:24:42versus racing the standards.
- 1:24:45Um,
- 1:24:46so I always think it's weird when we
- 1:24:49put not weird.
- 1:24:50I know it's part of our sport, um,
- 1:24:52to put hero workouts there, but like,
- 1:24:54I prefer benchmark workouts
- 1:24:56versus workouts that are,
- 1:24:58for people,
- 1:24:59but I understand that this is a
- 1:25:01big something very close to
- 1:25:05Dave's heart and obviously
- 1:25:06can bring awareness to, you know,
- 1:25:09PTSD and suicide awareness
- 1:25:13and stuff like that.
- 1:25:14So in that way, it's important,
- 1:25:17but I don't know.
- 1:25:19But what are your thoughts
- 1:25:20on doing hero workouts for
- 1:25:23time in competitions?
- 1:25:26Yeah, I totally agree.
- 1:25:27I don't love the hero workouts for a time.
- 1:25:30I think honoring the people
- 1:25:32through the suffering is
- 1:25:34much more important.
- 1:25:36But there is something to be
- 1:25:37said to bringing it to a
- 1:25:38stage and getting more eyes on it.
- 1:25:42We all loved Murph at the games.
- 1:25:45Right.
- 1:25:47We all loved Murph.
- 1:25:48So to just make the blankets,
- 1:25:50I think it depends on the hero workout.
- 1:25:52Yeah, but Murph has been bastardized,
- 1:25:54honestly.
- 1:25:55You see people doing it, and you're like,
- 1:25:59wow, you're not even close.
- 1:26:02I mean, not even close,
- 1:26:05not even quarter pull-ups,
- 1:26:06not even quarter squats,
- 1:26:08not even quarter push-ups.
- 1:26:10It's a joke now.
- 1:26:11People race it to the point
- 1:26:12that it is a joke.
- 1:26:14So putting it on a CrossFit
- 1:26:15stage where there are
- 1:26:16standards shows the world
- 1:26:18this is the way it's meant to be.
- 1:26:23I'm good with that.
- 1:26:26And like they'll be
- 1:26:26following like strict standards,
- 1:26:28obviously.
- 1:26:30So in that way, we get to see what,
- 1:26:33you know,
- 1:26:33what these top times are of
- 1:26:35these hero workouts
- 1:26:37following actual standards
- 1:26:38than what people will post
- 1:26:40on their social medias.
- 1:26:43Right.
- 1:26:43And so in that way,
- 1:26:45I almost hope it is not step overs,
- 1:26:47that it's step ups and that
- 1:26:49we make people stand tall, right?
- 1:26:51Yeah.
- 1:26:52And it's consistent across the board.
- 1:26:54That's the key.
- 1:26:55It's just got to be consistent.
- 1:26:59So next thing I have is,
- 1:27:00I'm going to skip over that.
- 1:27:03Failed drug test.
- 1:27:06Another one in North America,
- 1:27:07North America West team, Carla Corneo,
- 1:27:12uh,
- 1:27:12was reported by the barbell spin
- 1:27:14CrossFit complex.
- 1:27:15What X was the team.
- 1:27:17They took third place, North America West.
- 1:27:20They have been disqualified and the, uh,
- 1:27:24Rhino dogs, um, are in their place.
- 1:27:29And that is, um, Roth Duran's team.
- 1:27:34I talked to him last night.
- 1:27:35He could not be more excited to be going.
- 1:27:38Um, so super stoked for them, but,
- 1:27:42The failed drug test.
- 1:27:44This was going to be the
- 1:27:44first Mexican team to
- 1:27:46qualify for the CrossFit Games.
- 1:27:48It was a huge story,
- 1:27:49but that was the fact.
- 1:27:51And then one of the athletes
- 1:27:52tested positive.
- 1:27:55Teammate Sasha Nieves.
- 1:27:58did not hold back on how
- 1:28:00disappointed she was and
- 1:28:02how her and another
- 1:28:03teammate fought through
- 1:28:04injury to get to this point
- 1:28:06and to then have it ripped
- 1:28:08away by someone being so stupid is,
- 1:28:12is horrible.
- 1:28:15And then I took this
- 1:28:15directly from the spin.
- 1:28:16She was found to have
- 1:28:1816-A-hydroxy-1-methyl-5-A-androst-1-N-3,
- 1:28:2017-Dione-N-3-A-hydroxy-1-methylene-5-A-anderstone,
- 1:28:2217-1.
- 1:28:22They are all metabolites of metanolone.
- 1:28:38And it's banned by the World
- 1:28:39Anti-Doping Agency.
- 1:28:42And it's used... It does
- 1:28:44have a medical reason to be used,
- 1:28:46but it's used in the
- 1:28:47bodybuilding community as a
- 1:28:48way to boost metabolism,
- 1:28:50thereby increasing fat burn
- 1:28:51while promoting muscle gain.
- 1:28:53It's also known as Primo Bolan.
- 1:28:56So...
- 1:29:01I don't believe it's
- 1:29:02Kiefer's team that made it.
- 1:29:05These are underdogs because
- 1:29:08underdogs has promoted that
- 1:29:09their team has made it to the games.
- 1:29:11If you go to the underdogs Instagram page,
- 1:29:14they are the one
- 1:29:14congratulating the team to move forward.
- 1:29:19And I'm pretty sure Raph is
- 1:29:20with underdogs not proven or Kiefer.
- 1:29:25So... But yeah...
- 1:29:29Great conversation with Raph.
- 1:29:30He's super excited.
- 1:29:31But on the other side,
- 1:29:32you have this fiasco where
- 1:29:35it was a huge celebration
- 1:29:38that this team from Mexico
- 1:29:39made it to be the first
- 1:29:41team from that country to
- 1:29:42make it to the CrossFit Games,
- 1:29:44only to have it ripped away.
- 1:29:47Thoughts on drug testing, drug failings,
- 1:29:50anything?
- 1:29:51We've been here.
- 1:29:51We've done this.
- 1:29:54Yeah, that sucks.
- 1:29:55I mean,
- 1:29:55I can't even imagine it a team
- 1:29:57aspect and putting your
- 1:29:58trust into teammates and
- 1:29:59then having something come out like that.
- 1:30:03But good for her for speaking her mind.
- 1:30:06For Sasha speaking her mind.
- 1:30:08Yeah,
- 1:30:09I was happy to see her give her opinion.
- 1:30:14Yeah, just on how it affected her and
- 1:30:18how disappointed she is because yeah,
- 1:30:21that's the trust that you
- 1:30:22put in going team.
- 1:30:23And that's what scares me about, you know,
- 1:30:25the possibility of going
- 1:30:26like on a team is putting
- 1:30:28my trust in athletes that I don't know.
- 1:30:30I don't know what they do
- 1:30:32behind closed doors.
- 1:30:33Right.
- 1:30:33You don't have that control
- 1:30:35over what they're taking or doing.
- 1:30:38So yeah, I mean,
- 1:30:42Happy that that athlete got caught.
- 1:30:46See you later.
- 1:30:47And very happy for the Rhino team.
- 1:30:51Excited to have them at the games.
- 1:30:53Yeah.
- 1:30:53And just so everybody knows,
- 1:30:55the reason I'm super happy for Raph,
- 1:30:57if you weren't a listener two years ago,
- 1:30:59Raph was actually our
- 1:31:01expert at the CrossFit
- 1:31:02Games that we brought on
- 1:31:04for the wrap-up shows every night.
- 1:31:06So Raph is super close with
- 1:31:08the show and was awesome in
- 1:31:11that role back then.
- 1:31:13But he's made the games
- 1:31:14every year since then.
- 1:31:14So bright things are in
- 1:31:18Jamie and Carolyn's future,
- 1:31:19it looks like.
- 1:31:20Yeah.
- 1:31:23So, yeah, with that.
- 1:31:26All right,
- 1:31:27next big thing that came out this week,
- 1:31:29and Hayley Adams announces
- 1:31:32that on the Dave Castro
- 1:31:34interviews that she's back
- 1:31:35in Cookville training with Mayhem.
- 1:31:41Josh and Hayley were just on
- 1:31:43Get With The Programming talking about
- 1:31:46what they're doing with
- 1:31:47haley how they're uh
- 1:31:50coaching her and then it's
- 1:31:52like less than a week later
- 1:31:54she's announced she's at
- 1:31:55mayhem do you think she's
- 1:31:56still being coached by
- 1:31:57haley yeah just working out
- 1:32:01there I think she just
- 1:32:04wanted to be in cookville
- 1:32:06maybe have some people to
- 1:32:08train around um gauge maybe
- 1:32:11where she's at have some
- 1:32:12races against people
- 1:32:15um she's friends with that
- 1:32:16community right like she
- 1:32:17left but there were I don't
- 1:32:19think that she had any bad
- 1:32:20blood with with mayhem at
- 1:32:22all um she has very close
- 1:32:24friends there so I think
- 1:32:25it's just a good
- 1:32:26environment maybe for her
- 1:32:27prior to the games um you
- 1:32:29know there's a lot of games
- 1:32:31athletes training there
- 1:32:32right now uh to prepare
- 1:32:34So I think just being there
- 1:32:36and then maybe getting
- 1:32:37coached from a distance by Josh,
- 1:32:40Josh is probably what's
- 1:32:41going on and Haley.
- 1:32:44But I expect them to be her
- 1:32:46coach at the games.
- 1:32:48Yeah.
- 1:32:49And her primary training
- 1:32:51partner is Luke Parker.
- 1:32:53Oh, who doesn't know what Cindy is?
- 1:32:58Did she sell her house in Cookeville?
- 1:33:01I don't believe so.
- 1:33:04And someone said, Bruce says,
- 1:33:06did she ever announce she
- 1:33:07wasn't with Mayhem?
- 1:33:09She never really made an
- 1:33:10announcement about coaches.
- 1:33:11It just was, hey, she's working with Haley,
- 1:33:14blah, blah, blah.
- 1:33:15And there was never a formal
- 1:33:17announcement about anything.
- 1:33:18So maybe that's it.
- 1:33:19It's just like a co-op almost.
- 1:33:22Yeah.
- 1:33:24So I know Haley and Josh do
- 1:33:26other things outside the CrossFit space,
- 1:33:28right?
- 1:33:29Uh,
- 1:33:29training actors and actresses for movie
- 1:33:32roles, things like that.
- 1:33:33So my guess is that that's
- 1:33:36probably still a pretty
- 1:33:37lucrative business that
- 1:33:39they didn't want to dive at
- 1:33:41first into CrossFit stuff.
- 1:33:43So maybe the co-op thing is
- 1:33:45better for them.
- 1:33:49Uh,
- 1:33:52Media credentials, still don't have them.
- 1:33:53We're a month out of the games.
- 1:33:58This is the first time ever
- 1:33:59I've actually bought a
- 1:33:59plane ticket in a hotel
- 1:34:01room prior to having
- 1:34:03approval for my tickets,
- 1:34:05for my credentials.
- 1:34:06So I may be just hanging out
- 1:34:08in the beer garden for the
- 1:34:09weekend at the games.
- 1:34:12But who knows?
- 1:34:15Just a little update there.
- 1:34:17But we did buy the stuff we
- 1:34:18were going to go there, so...
- 1:34:22And I actually emailed Chris
- 1:34:23Madigan today and said,
- 1:34:24what's the timeline on this?
- 1:34:27And then I said, hey,
- 1:34:28have you guys ever thought
- 1:34:29about doing a yearly
- 1:34:29approval so that media can
- 1:34:32actually make plans ahead
- 1:34:34of time knowing that they're approved?
- 1:34:38I got back a response saying, hey,
- 1:34:40we're giving 20 X number days.
- 1:34:42You were supposed to hear this week,
- 1:34:4420 X days that we feel that
- 1:34:47that's plenty of time and
- 1:34:49that it's not really a
- 1:34:50season like other things.
- 1:34:52It's more like an all-star
- 1:34:53game or an event.
- 1:34:58And I said,
- 1:35:00so it's going to change how
- 1:35:02many people are allowed and
- 1:35:03stuff like that.
- 1:35:05I said, yeah,
- 1:35:05but there are companies that
- 1:35:07are there every year and
- 1:35:09every event that can you
- 1:35:12give them approval to say, hey,
- 1:35:13we're going to have some representation.
- 1:35:16That number may change.
- 1:35:17The structure may change of who can go,
- 1:35:20blah, blah, blah.
- 1:35:21But at least say, hey, morning chalk up.
- 1:35:24Hey, barbell spin.
- 1:35:28Hey, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:35:29You are approved.
- 1:35:31We'll let you know the
- 1:35:32numbers as we get closer.
- 1:35:37So the response back,
- 1:35:38I see Halpin's response here.
- 1:35:41Anybody who applied before
- 1:35:42July 5th will hear in the next week.
- 1:35:46The deadline is July 19th.
- 1:35:48So if you're waiting that long,
- 1:35:49you may not hear until later.
- 1:35:52But I put my application in the first day.
- 1:35:56the application was out as I
- 1:35:57do on everyone and I feel
- 1:36:00like I wait for freaking
- 1:36:01ever to find out and I'm a
- 1:36:04small company who can't
- 1:36:05just throw a thousand two
- 1:36:08thousand dollars at
- 1:36:09something and hope right so
- 1:36:18with that uh then I think
- 1:36:20that just kind of
- 1:36:22a little bit of finishing up
- 1:36:24is Sean Woodland actually
- 1:36:25reached out to me this week,
- 1:36:28said that he actually heard
- 1:36:29our podcast last week and
- 1:36:31wanted to thank us for the
- 1:36:32kind words that we said about him.
- 1:36:36But then he appeared on the
- 1:36:37WOD Prep podcast.
- 1:36:40And that was very interesting.
- 1:36:42So just a couple notes, recap.
- 1:36:46Uh,
- 1:36:46he hadn't heard Dave in one of the
- 1:36:48interviews said,
- 1:36:50or we can review said that
- 1:36:52they had plans for Sean in Texas.
- 1:36:57Okay.
- 1:36:59Sean has heard nothing about that.
- 1:37:06He was finally reached out
- 1:37:07to by Don fall saying that
- 1:37:11they still want to work
- 1:37:12with him in the future.
- 1:37:14but they just wanted to go
- 1:37:15in a different direction this year.
- 1:37:21He knew two weeks before he made the post,
- 1:37:24but never through official
- 1:37:25channels until after the
- 1:37:30post and was reached out to by Don.
- 1:37:33It does sound like
- 1:37:36is sure he's doing rogue and
- 1:37:38he's in talks to do other
- 1:37:40events this off season but
- 1:37:42he's also trying to reach
- 1:37:43out and expand into
- 1:37:46non-crossfit sports uh to
- 1:37:50do some other stuff so he
- 1:37:53said the only bad thing is
- 1:37:54he hasn't done some of that
- 1:37:55in a long time and so he
- 1:37:57needs to get reps in and
- 1:37:58get some tape to be able to
- 1:38:00give so he's just trying to
- 1:38:01figure out that path
- 1:38:05But I thought that was
- 1:38:06really cool that he was on
- 1:38:08there and he was very open
- 1:38:10and transparent.
- 1:38:11And he said the reason he did the post,
- 1:38:13even though he wasn't reached out to,
- 1:38:15was he didn't want it to be
- 1:38:16a discussion point at the games.
- 1:38:20He wanted it out there and over with,
- 1:38:22so he was not the
- 1:38:24distraction at the games.
- 1:38:30We will miss him,
- 1:38:31but I know that he'll do
- 1:38:32well wherever he'll go.
- 1:38:34His voice is awesome.
- 1:38:37he does always a lot of
- 1:38:38homework on the athletes
- 1:38:39and whatever he'll do, he'll,
- 1:38:41he'll crush it.
- 1:38:43Yeah.
- 1:38:45So the last thing I have for
- 1:38:47tonight is for people who
- 1:38:51don't know our very own
- 1:38:53Carolyn Prevo was a junior
- 1:38:56pan American champion in
- 1:38:58Taekwondo when she was small.
- 1:39:01Second place.
- 1:39:02I lost it.
- 1:39:03I lost a Peru championship.
- 1:39:06And if you've not gone to
- 1:39:07her Instagram and seen her
- 1:39:08do some damage to Bob with her Taekwondo,
- 1:39:14you need to go do it.
- 1:39:15It is worth the watch.
- 1:39:17But in Dave's interview with
- 1:39:19Shung Young Choi,
- 1:39:20her background was Taekwondo.
- 1:39:25So I put it out to you, the audience,
- 1:39:27who would win in a Taekwondo match?
- 1:39:30Our very own Carolyn Prevost
- 1:39:32or Shung Young Choi?
- 1:39:34Dave also said that he did Taekwondo,
- 1:39:36so you can throw Dave in the mix as well.
- 1:39:40I used to fight against the boys too,
- 1:39:41so let's put him in there.
- 1:39:49Anybody have any response?
- 1:39:50Do you think you could beat both of them,
- 1:39:52Carolyn?
- 1:39:55I haven't done Taekwondo in a while,
- 1:39:57but I feel pretty confident
- 1:40:00in my background is what I'll say.
- 1:40:05I go with Carolyn.
- 1:40:08Nice.
- 1:40:09How big is Sun Yung Choi?
- 1:40:14She must be a little bit taller than me,
- 1:40:18which is not very difficult
- 1:40:19because I'm one of the shorter athletes.
- 1:40:23I would say she has maybe
- 1:40:2610-ish pounds on me.
- 1:40:29Somewhere around there.
- 1:40:30She's solid.
- 1:40:31Very solid.
- 1:40:33I can't picture her.
- 1:40:35She actually got really strong.
- 1:40:37Taekwondo comes from Korea.
- 1:40:39So I had to learn words, like Korean words,
- 1:40:42growing up in that sport.
- 1:40:46So not surprised at all that
- 1:40:48she has that background
- 1:40:49since that's where the sport started.
- 1:40:51That's where probably the
- 1:40:52top athletes are.
- 1:40:55Well,
- 1:40:55I don't know if they're the top athletes.
- 1:40:56Craig Passley picks Guerlain.
- 1:41:01uh bruce says dave said they
- 1:41:03were in talks about using
- 1:41:04him in a different capacity
- 1:41:06right that's what I alluded
- 1:41:07to bruce but sean had not
- 1:41:09been contacted about any
- 1:41:11capacity and how do you how
- 1:41:15are you in talks if the
- 1:41:16person doing the thing is
- 1:41:17not in the talks yeah
- 1:41:23because whatever you may
- 1:41:24come up with crossfit he
- 1:41:26may not want anything to do with right
- 1:41:32He actually did also say he
- 1:41:34didn't know if he was even
- 1:41:35going to go to the games.
- 1:41:36Oh, my gosh.
- 1:41:37He does not want to be a distraction.
- 1:41:40Even though Talking Elite
- 1:41:41Fitness will have a presence there,
- 1:41:43he wasn't sure he was going to go.
- 1:41:45Hmm.
- 1:41:53So, yeah, that's just crazy.
- 1:42:00But again,
- 1:42:00I should have had Carolyn's
- 1:42:03Taekwondo video ready to go,
- 1:42:04but I didn't.
- 1:42:08Anyway, well, that's the show for tonight,
- 1:42:10guys.
- 1:42:12Don't forget, like, subscribe,
- 1:42:14hit that notifier.
- 1:42:16Join the channel if you want
- 1:42:17to support us in going different places.
- 1:42:20And also,
- 1:42:22if you have a question of the week,
- 1:42:24submit it in the comments
- 1:42:25below or shoot me a DM.
- 1:42:28Either way.
- 1:42:31And if you have a riff about
- 1:42:32something that's happened this week,
- 1:42:34as Dave has announced,
- 1:42:36more pieces to the puzzle
- 1:42:38will be released throughout this week.
- 1:42:43And I think you even alluded
- 1:42:44to the first event will be
- 1:42:46released this week.
- 1:42:49All right.
- 1:42:52So with that, do all those things.
- 1:42:56Send us a riff.
- 1:42:58Send us a riff video, two minutes or less,
- 1:43:00and we'll get it on the air.
- 1:43:02And with that, it's been a fun night,
- 1:43:04guys.
- 1:43:04Thank you to everybody in
- 1:43:05the chat for being here.
- 1:43:07We will see everybody next
- 1:43:08time on Sunday Night CrossFit Talk.
- 1:43:12Bye, guys.
