- 0:48She's a happy girl.
- 1:03The world has much to offer you that may seem great on the surface.
- 1:07Your time is stolen by many entertaining things.
- 1:11Hours are passed in front of televisions, watching ballgames,
- 1:14as well as just socializing.
- 1:16It is very easy to get caught up in the things of this world.
- 1:20All the same, there is a price to pay for making the world your number one priority.
- 1:25You lose fellowship with the Savior, and you lose bunches of blessings.
- 1:31Join us in this program, Apart from the World, as Kim Miller of Women at the
- 1:35Well Ministries takes us through 1 John 2.15, which says, Love not the world,
- 1:42neither the things that are in the world.
- 1:44If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
- 1:50Hello and welcome to this broadcast of Woman at the Well Ministries. Let us pray.
- 1:55Our kind and most gracious dear Heavenly Father, Lord, we thank you for this
- 1:58and other opportunity to come before you.
- 2:00Lord, I ask that you would open our hearts and you would open our minds for
- 2:04these moments that we have together.
- 2:06That we would be fully focused on you and what you have done for us and the
- 2:11word that you've given us that we might know who you are.
- 2:13The commandments that you've given us that we might live
- 2:16the life that would give us the abundant life you've intended for
- 2:19us to have lord i pray that you would speak through
- 2:22these lips of clay that we i would be able lord to say something
- 2:25that would spark someone to draw closer to
- 2:28you to investigate more of your love and
- 2:31your scriptures and lord that we would be shining
- 2:34lights to all those that are around us lord i love you and i praise you and
- 2:39i thank you in jesus name apart from the world when you think about christians
- 2:45we realize that we go through the same heartache the same problems and,
- 2:52The same issues as individuals who have not given their life to Christ.
- 2:57And oftentimes, that seems to really throw a weak Christian,
- 3:02or perhaps give fodder to someone who does not know the Lord.
- 3:06Because somehow they think that when we become a child of God,
- 3:10that that means we're immune to the things of the world.
- 3:14But the Bible clearly says that the prince of the power of the air has domain over the world.
- 3:21But it clearly says that it has no more dominion
- 3:24over us who know the lord so though
- 3:28we live in a world where the devil has full reign and it doesn't take any amount
- 3:32of time of watching the news talking to other people reading the newspaper or
- 3:37just seeing things go on around you to know that the devil is running rampant
- 3:41in this world but i want you to know that greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.
- 3:46But we are subject to the same things happening in our lives as anyone else.
- 3:53The difference is that a true believer in Christ has the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of them.
- 4:00And so if two people are going through the same thing, and one person knows
- 4:06the love of God and has the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of them,
- 4:09and one person has not accepted the Christ as Savior and therefore does not
- 4:14have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of them,
- 4:17there should be a very distinct difference
- 4:20in how they deal with the circumstances that come to their life.
- 4:25First of all, the Christian has hope in all things because Jesus is the hope of all things.
- 4:32Second of all, the Christian has the promise that they'll never go through anything
- 4:38alone because the Bible says that he'll never leave you nor forsake you.
- 4:44Thirdly, since the Holy Spirit is dwelling inside of you,
- 4:48then you should be trusting in the Lord in such a way that you're leaving the
- 4:53footprints of God behind you and all around you as you shine the glory of God
- 4:59throughout your situation.
- 5:01Whereas those who do not know the Lord live in despair. They have no hope.
- 5:08And they're completely dependent upon what
- 5:11they can do themselves to get themselves out of the situation and you often
- 5:15see them hopeless and in despair but the scripture says that we should not act
- 5:24as those who have no hope the scripture says troubled on every hand perplexed but not despair.
- 5:31Because we have the hope of Christ in us.
- 5:34And so the first thing we need to look at as we look at this scripture is,
- 5:38can the world tell you apart from the world?
- 5:44If you were convicted of being a Christian, is there enough evidence in your life to convict you?
- 5:53If someone was accusing you of being a Christian,
- 5:56could they follow after you day by day and see the things that you do and hear
- 6:02your works and watch you and know that you are a child of the Most High God?
- 6:09Or would it be hard to find enough evidence to convict you?
- 6:14It is my prayer that as a child of God,
- 6:18you have a strong witness of your allegiance to Jesus Christ,
- 6:22that his love exudes from
- 6:26you in such a way that everybody knows
- 6:29you love him and that when
- 6:32you are faced with trials and temptations when trouble does come your way that
- 6:38you immediately cling to the hand of the almighty god that you instantaneously
- 6:44show that you believe that all things work together for the good to them that
- 6:49love the lord to them that are called according to his purpose.
- 6:52That even though the world would look at you and say, everything is falling
- 6:57apart, you can say, I am held by the hand of the most high God.
- 7:03And it may look like things are falling apart, but I am sure in his presence.
- 7:08Then there's the thing about our witness.
- 7:12The Bible says that we are his witnesses.
- 7:16And in Matthew chapter 5, beginning in verse 14, it tells us how our witness should be.
- 7:24And I think that it's worth bearing fruit for the Lord any and every day of the week.
- 7:31And I believe it's worth reading this scripture that we might be able to look
- 7:35at what God says we should be.
- 7:39He says that we should be a light. he
- 7:43says you are a light of the world a city that is set on
- 7:46a hill cannot be hid you can't hide
- 7:49the holy spirit that dwells inside
- 7:52of you and he says neither do men light a candle and
- 7:55put it under a bushel but on a candlestick and it
- 7:58giveth light unto all that are in the house then
- 8:02he says this is what we are to do let your light so
- 8:05shine before men that they may see your
- 8:07good works and glorify your father which
- 8:11is in heaven people need to see jesus
- 8:14in you you need to glorify jesus with your thoughts your actions your works
- 8:22with your entire being and you say well kim how can i do that well it's not
- 8:27that difficult given that in second corinthians 5 17 we're told that therefore,
- 8:33if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature.
- 8:35Old things are passed away. Behold, all things are become new.
- 8:41When we accept Christ as Savior, he says, For God so loved the world that he
- 8:46gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
- 8:50but have everlasting life.
- 8:52And he says that we become the sons of God when we believe in him.
- 8:57We're part of his family, so we should resemble him.
- 9:01And he says that old things are passed
- 9:04away the old things are the sin nature that
- 9:07we have to be a servant to sin but the
- 9:09bible says that sin has no more dominion over us and the bible tells us in first
- 9:15john that for whatsoever is born of god overcometh the world and this is the
- 9:21victory that overcometh the world even our faith he tells us also that greater
- 9:27is he that is in us than he that is in the world.
- 9:29The Bible is clear. The Holy Spirit leads us and guides us and directs us.
- 9:35It gives us peace and it comforts us.
- 9:38And it sets us apart from the world because it's the connection of the Holy
- 9:42Spirit we have inside of us that allows us to live the life that God intended for us.
- 9:49And yes, we make mistakes, but the Bible says if we confess our sins,
- 9:54he's faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- 9:58But perpetual repeated sin is not a mistake.
- 10:03Where our thoughts and our intentions are, what we're hoping to show the world
- 10:08needs to be focused on Jesus Christ.
- 10:13You see, the things of the world shouldn't hold a huge attraction to us.
- 10:18Sinful, wicked things should make us feel sick inside.
- 10:23Things that the devil puts in front of us that are anti-God shouldn't allure us.
- 10:30And if for a moment because there's pleasure in
- 10:33sin for a season our eyes get a little turned in
- 10:36that direction there should be that conviction of the holy spirit
- 10:39inside of us that says kim you don't need to be here kim walk away from this
- 10:44conversation kim there is no place for you to be here kim you need to read my
- 10:52word more yeah sometimes it's not about the sins of commission,
- 10:58but the sins of omission as a child of god we should have a thirsting and a
- 11:05hungering for the word of god because it's how we get to know who god is,
- 11:11how we get to understand how he works and operates in our lives.
- 11:16It grows our love for him and it increases our faith as we read about the protection
- 11:22and the provision and the love and the blessings of God that are from Genesis to Revelations.
- 11:28It allows us to grow deeper in our relationship with Christ,
- 11:32which allows us our light to shine even brighter.
- 11:35And what God wants for us is a close relationship.
- 11:39With him that draws others to him he
- 11:42says if i be lifted up i will draw all men
- 11:45unto me and our lives can lift him up
- 11:47but not if we're so mixed and mingled in
- 11:50the world that the world can't see that there's something different
- 11:53in us i'm so reminded
- 11:57of how the parable of the wheat and the chafe
- 12:00and they sifted the wheat which was good out
- 12:03and that which wasn't good went by the wayside but
- 12:06you could tell the difference between the good wheat and the
- 12:09bad that's what we need to be we need
- 12:12to be salt of the earth the bible says and we
- 12:16need to be clearly labeled as a christian and take that with pride and joy not
- 12:22in arrogance but that we know that we're showing the love of god and that we
- 12:26have the characteristics that make us christ-like through the power that is supplied to us by him.
- 12:33We're not much good to him if the world can't tell anything about us that makes us different.
- 12:38If we don't have something about our walk and our talk that would make other
- 12:43people want to love Jesus, then we need to stop and look at our walk and talk.
- 12:48And we need to talk to Jesus and allow him to strengthen us so that people walking
- 12:54behind us and walking around us would see Christ in us.
- 12:59It's high time we Christians were apart from the world.
