- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Not So Fast with Andrew Perloff and Paul Pabst,
- 0:05Speaker 1: where two longtime friends challenge each other on the biggest
- 0:08Speaker 1: sports stories of the day.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Here's Andrew Perloff and Paul Pabst. Not so fast, my friends.
- 0:15Speaker 3: Welcome in to Not So Fast. I'm Andrew Perloff. He's
- 0:18Speaker 3: Paul Pabst. And Paul, I got to say, this is
- 0:20Speaker 3: the wildest Monday that we've had since we started doing
- 0:23Speaker 3: Not So Fast.
- 0:24Speaker 4: Yeah, this is the point of the season where things happen.
- 0:26Speaker 4: Like there's fallout from the NFL weekend. And the college weekend,
- 0:29Speaker 4: we're going to dive into that a lot more. Dan
- 0:31Speaker 4: Patrick's going to stop by. But that college football Saturday,
- 0:34Speaker 4: I wish I could go back and do that one again.
- 0:36Speaker 4: It was that impactful and that much fun.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Impactful. I have a strong take on why I am
- 0:41Speaker 3: not surprised at all that so many top ten teams lost.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Because they're all overrated. The entire sport has overrated teams throughout.
- 0:49Speaker 3: But we're going to save that.
- 0:49Speaker 5: That sounds like a warm take tease.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Yes.
- 0:51Speaker 3: We've got to talk about NFL. Breaking news this morning.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will be out three months with
- 0:57Speaker 3: blood clots. have moved around within his body. What do
- 1:01Speaker 3: you think? Are the Eagles my Eagles, I might point out,
- 1:03Speaker 3: a Philadelphia native? Is this it?
- 1:05Speaker 4: Well, let's stay with the football side of this. The
- 1:07Speaker 4: NFC East is awful. All the teams are obviously playing
- 1:10Speaker 4: awful right now. The Commanders have a chance tonight. But
- 1:12Speaker 4: if you look at the Commanders, no one expects them
- 1:14Speaker 4: to do anything. I would say the silver lining for
- 1:17Speaker 4: the Eagles right now is they go to Tanner McKee,
- 1:19Speaker 4: who played medium-level football the other day in the loss
- 1:22Speaker 4: to the Panthers. But now he gets first-team reps. The
- 1:25Speaker 4: team is his for the next three months. If you
- 1:27Speaker 4: look at that division, you win two in a row,
- 1:29Speaker 4: you're hosting a playoff game. So the scenario isn't that bad.
- 1:34Speaker 5: The situation with Hurts is bad.
- 1:36Speaker 3: What's the point of going 8-9 and winning the NFC
- 1:38Speaker 3: East if you're the Philadelphia Eagles? You're just going to
- 1:40Speaker 3: get slaughtered in the playoffs.
- 1:42Speaker 4: It does seem like an inevitability. But then if you
- 1:44Speaker 4: look at the Rams seem vulnerable, the 49ers don't. But
- 1:47Speaker 4: the rest of the NFC does not seem threatening. You
- 1:49Speaker 4: don't love the Vikings. But I would say that the
- 1:51Speaker 4: Eagles right now, they were dealt a blow. There's a
- 1:53Speaker 4: lot more details coming out. When was Hurts hurt? When
- 1:56Speaker 4: was he allowed to play? Should he have been allowed
- 1:58Speaker 4: to play? So there's more to this.
- 2:00Speaker 3: This might be a war play, too. This is the
- 2:02Speaker 3: third most impactful injury on the Eagles this season.
- 2:05Speaker 5: Lane Johnson?
- 2:05Speaker 3: Lane Johnson, number one. They are terrible when Lane Johnson
- 2:08Speaker 3: doesn't play. The second he retired was a signal it's
- 2:11Speaker 3: time to rebuild. The second signal was when Cam Juergens
- 2:14Speaker 3: got traded. You don't trade a two-time Pro Bowl center
- 2:16Speaker 3: if you think this is the year. Howie Roseman, the GM,
- 2:19Speaker 3: knew that the Eagles were already in trouble. And third,
- 2:21Speaker 3: Saquon Barkley didn't play this week with a hamstring. So
- 2:24Speaker 3: Saquon is arguably more important than the Eagles because if
- 2:27Speaker 3: Saquon is not going to have a great year, what
- 2:29Speaker 3: is Jalen Hurts going to do? So I get this
- 2:31Speaker 3: is a big deal from a football standpoint and they
- 2:32Speaker 3: need him, but I don't think this is really changing
- 2:35Speaker 3: the narrative in any important way. They were going to
- 2:37Speaker 3: rebuild one way or the other.
- 2:38Speaker 4: It's true, but they could pick off a wild card appearance.
- 2:42Speaker 4: I know it doesn't mean anything. What I'm saying is
- 2:44Speaker 4: the Cowboys could do nothing on defense. They laid an
- 2:46Speaker 4: egg last night. The Commanders are probably going to lose
- 2:49Speaker 4: three of the next four. The Giants might be the
- 2:51Speaker 4: weirdly most threatening because they're not supposed to be threatening.
- 2:54Speaker 3: But I don't think that motivates anything in the Philadelphia
- 2:56Speaker 3: Eagles building. And tell me if you disagree with this.
- 2:58Speaker 3: I think 8-9 and making the playoffs is just the
- 3:01Speaker 3: same as 5-12. They don't see any difference.
- 3:03Speaker 5: We have more time to get into this. We can
- 3:05Speaker 5: do this tomorrow on the show.
- 3:06Speaker 4: But the Eagles' future, we want to be respectful to
- 3:08Speaker 4: the injury and Hurts has it. But Eagles' future after
- 3:11Speaker 4: this season with the result is going to be really interesting.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Does the coach get a hall pass because of the injury?
- 3:15Speaker 3: Well, maybe. The one thing about it, they are built
- 3:18Speaker 3: to get rid of Hurts after next year because the
- 3:19Speaker 3: cap hit is worse. Remember, they have two number ones
- 3:22Speaker 3: and two number twos next year. So they're all about these.
- 3:25Speaker 3: They traded A.J. Brown for a 20-28 first-round pick, and
- 3:28Speaker 3: they traded Cam Juergens for a 28 second-round pick. But
- 3:31Speaker 3: right now they sit eight in the draft order, so
- 3:33Speaker 3: this might be the end of the Jalen Hurts era.
- 3:35Speaker 4: All right, before we get to the weekend games, let's
- 3:36Speaker 4: talk about another incident that happened this morning. The Colts
- 3:39Speaker 4: got rid of their GM, Chris Ballard. Ballard's been there
- 3:42Speaker 4: a long time. A lot of people didn't want him back,
- 3:44Speaker 4: and he was back. But after the embarrassing loss yesterday,
- 3:47Speaker 4: I think people thought maybe it would be the coach go,
- 3:49Speaker 4: but the GM goes first, Chris Ballard.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Well, I mean, why are you firing a GM in
- 3:53Speaker 3: week six? This makes no sense to me. The GM's
- 3:56Speaker 3: busy time is in April. What's he doing in week six?
- 3:59Speaker 3: The stakes have already made. If you didn't trust him,
- 4:01Speaker 3: then you should have fired him earlier.
- 4:02Speaker 4: I can tell you why they did it, because you
- 4:04Speaker 4: have a nontraditional ownership group now. You have a new
- 4:06Speaker 4: group of ownership that is probably going to respond to
- 4:08Speaker 4: what the local media and local fans want.
- 4:10Speaker 5: They got embarrassed yesterday.
- 4:11Speaker 4: They look like a non-threatening football team. The owner is
- 4:14Speaker 4: now on the sidelines and sees everything. And she seems
- 4:17Speaker 4: like a person who's more proactive than reactionary and letting
- 4:20Speaker 4: things play out. And to get rid of Chris Ballard,
- 4:22Speaker 4: a lot of fans are going to think this is
- 4:24Speaker 4: a good day.
- 4:24Speaker 5: For the Colts.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Wait, but a proactive owner who likes to be involved
- 4:28Speaker 3: in the football, you're defining what? 25 years of ineptitude here?
- 4:33Speaker 3: Any owner who gets involved in football, you are dooming
- 4:35Speaker 3: your franchise completely. You know, you're basically Jerry Jones-like. You
- 4:38Speaker 3: are never going to win that way.
- 4:39Speaker 4: It does seem like the older Urses were more hands-off. Well, no,
- 4:43Speaker 4: Jim might have been hands-off.
- 4:45Speaker 3: But I don't think, generally, firing in Week 6, GM,
- 4:49Speaker 3: seems nontraditional to me. It says the owner's too interventionist
- 4:52Speaker 3: and doesn't know what they're doing. That's how I read it.
- 4:53Speaker 5: You know, this all goes back to 2018.
- 4:56Speaker 4: After the start of the 2019 season, Andrew Luck decides
- 4:59Speaker 4: to retire as a surprise.
- 5:01Speaker 5: No one knew it was coming.
- 5:02Speaker 4: They were 10-6 in 2018. Andrew Luck's 37 years old,
- 5:06Speaker 4: maybe 38. He would be ending his career right now
- 5:08Speaker 4: and probably a couple more Pro Bowls, a bunch more
- 5:10Speaker 4: playoff appearances. Since Luck left the sport, they've made the
- 5:14Speaker 4: playoffs once. It was a first-round wildcard exit. They've had
- 5:17Speaker 4: quarterbacks like Carson Wentz, Phil Rivers, Jacoby Brissett, Matt Ryan,
- 5:21Speaker 4: Gardner Minshew. Daniel Jones. But the one that stands out
- 5:25Speaker 4: to me there is Anthony Richardson. That's where the demise
- 5:29Speaker 4: of this franchise happened.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Swung and missed.
- 5:30Speaker 4: Big swing and miss. Fourth pick of the draft. The
- 5:33Speaker 4: guy couldn't keep his job at Florida. He was a
- 5:35Speaker 4: complete project, super athlete, not great quarterback, and they gave
- 5:39Speaker 4: the fourth pick of the draft for him.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Well, I mean, listen, that's worked out before. Josh Allen
- 5:44Speaker 3: didn't do anything in college.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Yeah, but Josh Allen didn't lose his job at Wyoming
- 5:48Speaker 4: in the middle of his senior year. Anthony Richardson was
- 5:51Speaker 4: barely in and out of the lineup. They were going
- 5:53Speaker 4: to move on from him.
- 5:54Speaker 3: I don't know about that. But, yeah, generally, no, I
- 5:58Speaker 3: don't think that's a problem. Forget all that that happened.
- 6:00Speaker 3: I know Andrew Luck got hurt. What's happening right now
- 6:03Speaker 3: this day? They thought they were 8-2 last year, thought
- 6:05Speaker 3: that they were going to be a real team. traded
- 6:07Speaker 3: for Sauce Gardner, gave up their future. Oh, terrible. But
- 6:10Speaker 3: I just definitely don't like the ownership being so involved.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Because you look at the best teams, the Hunts never
- 6:16Speaker 3: comment on football.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Steelers.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Nothing to do with it. The Steelers, probably nothing to
- 6:19Speaker 3: do with it. Jeffrey Lurie and the Eagles, he's never
- 6:21Speaker 3: calling Harry Roseman and says, I won't answer that. Generally,
- 6:24Speaker 3: how you become a bad franchise is when your ownership
- 6:27Speaker 3: puts their hands into the football side. So if they
- 6:30Speaker 3: wanted him gone, they had to do it before the season,
- 6:32Speaker 3: in my opinion.
- 6:33Speaker 4: Okay, Pearl, let's get to on the field this weekend.
- 6:35Speaker 4: It was a pretty saucy NFL weekend. What would you
- 6:37Speaker 4: say is the upset or the loss that really stands
- 6:40Speaker 4: out and has the most tentacles?
- 6:41Speaker 3: I mean, I was ready for the L.A. Rams run.
- 6:45Speaker 3: We were looking at their schedule last week. Yeah, they
- 6:49Speaker 3: had a losing record, but we're like, oh, they're going
- 6:51Speaker 3: to beat all these teams, and Arizona's the first one.
- 6:53Speaker 3: How is Arizona going to win in L.A.? But you forget,
- 6:56Speaker 3: first of all, L.A., there's not much of a home
- 6:57Speaker 3: field advantage. And then Arizona, once in a while, will
- 7:02Speaker 3: be feisty. Still, I'm shocked. Now, coming into the year,
- 7:06Speaker 3: you and I were not totally buying the dream team
- 7:09Speaker 3: undefeated season thing, but I didn't know 2-4. I did
- 7:11Speaker 3: not see this coming.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Yeah, Pearl, this Rams loss is the ugliest of losses,
- 7:15Speaker 4: not just to the Cardinals, but the score is 18-16.
- 7:18Speaker 4: That's an ugly number. You lose to a bunch of
- 7:20Speaker 4: field goals. They actually scored too early at the end
- 7:23Speaker 4: and gave the Cardinals another chance to score. There was
- 7:26Speaker 4: a penalty at the end that gave them a free 15th.
- 7:28Speaker 4: Everything went the Cardinals' way, but their defense really controlled
- 7:32Speaker 4: the Rams at different points in the game. So if
- 7:33Speaker 4: I put it out there right now before we move
- 7:35Speaker 4: on to college football, if you were to bet on
- 7:37Speaker 4: the Rams missing a playoffs or appearing in the Super Bowl,
- 7:41Speaker 4: not winning, but appearing in the Super Bowl, what would
- 7:42Speaker 4: you bet?
- 7:43Speaker 3: I would bet appearing in the Super Bowl. Let me
- 7:45Speaker 3: give you some odds, by the way. They are fifth
- 7:47Speaker 3: in odds to get to the Super Bowl. Fifth. They're
- 7:50Speaker 3: at 10-1. They are 15th in odds to make the
- 7:53Speaker 3: playoffs at minus 120. Because there's an overall odds. And
- 7:56Speaker 3: guess who the team is? They're below the Panthers and
- 7:59Speaker 3: just above the Cowboys. So Vegas is either betting they
- 8:02Speaker 3: miss the playoffs or make the Super Bowl. There's no in-between.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Right.
- 8:04Speaker 4: So Vegas thinks they're either going to right the ship
- 8:06Speaker 4: or completely wrong the ship. You do feel Puka is back.
- 8:10Speaker 4: The running back situation is a little weird. Blake Corr
- 8:12Speaker 4: may get more run. That's interesting to keep an eye on.
- 8:14Speaker 4: Matthew Stafford should be fine if he's healthy. But no
- 8:17Speaker 4: Miles Garrett. Every week it stands out more and more.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I read an interesting column that the Rams, because
- 8:23Speaker 3: of the way they built the team, have no depth.
- 8:25Speaker 3: They went for McDuffie and Garrett, and they got these
- 8:28Speaker 3: big names at these big positions. That's not always how
- 8:30Speaker 3: you build a Super Bowl champion. So I think this
- 8:33Speaker 3: is not a team that can deal with injuries. But
- 8:35Speaker 3: what's the biggest problem? Kicker. They just have not been
- 8:37Speaker 3: able to figure this out. Then their kicker gets hurt.
- 8:39Speaker 3: And there's just an anxiety around the kicking.
- 8:41Speaker 4: That little kicker going for the tackle. Don't be a
- 8:43Speaker 4: tough guy. Don't try to make that tackle.
- 8:45Speaker 3: You know, I think you were me trying to hit
- 8:46Speaker 3: an AFL guy.
- 8:47Speaker 5: The guy's smaller than me. He's like 5'9, 150. He
- 8:49Speaker 5: should be getting me a sandwich. Look at this play here.
- 8:51Speaker 3: What is he doing?
- 8:52Speaker 5: Hey, just push him casually out of bounds. You thought,
- 8:55Speaker 5: oh my gosh. That looked like Teen Wolf 2. It
- 8:57Speaker 5: looked like I'm making a tackle.
- 8:58Speaker 3: Well, remember last week they had that gigantic guy playing kicker,
- 9:01Speaker 3: and he cost them the game. This week could have
- 9:04Speaker 3: cost them the game. Maybe didn't.
- 9:05Speaker 4: In all seriousness, as a kicker, you can't risk yourself
- 9:07Speaker 4: like that. Your team needs you, especially in a tight
- 9:09Speaker 4: game like this.
- 9:09Speaker 5: All right, let's get to college football. An unbelievable Saturday
- 9:12Speaker 5: of college football.
- 9:13Speaker 4: No one saw this coming. Auburn drops Georgia. BYU over
- 9:17Speaker 4: Notre Dame. Miami double overtime Florida State. Ohio State Tennessee.
- 9:21Speaker 4: Tennessee over Alabama. What was the game where you said,
- 9:24Speaker 4: I can't believe this one's happening, this result?
- 9:27Speaker 3: I did not see Auburn beating Georgia.
- 9:28Speaker 2: No.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Yeah, listen, I think everyone's a little overrated. Nobody played
- 9:33Speaker 3: anybody until about this point of the season. So we
- 9:37Speaker 3: didn't really know how good Georgia was. Then they beat Alabama.
- 9:40Speaker 3: DP said it best, kind of an emotional hangover from
- 9:42Speaker 3: that one. But I didn't see Auburn, the team, to
- 9:45Speaker 3: take advantage of it.
- 9:46Speaker 5: No, nobody did.
- 9:46Speaker 4: This is a frustration of eight years for Auburn fans
- 9:49Speaker 4: finally getting this type of win. I'm going to go
- 9:51Speaker 4: Florida beating Texas because Florida just lost two in a row.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Texas supposedly got their wake-up call last week against Oklahoma.
- 9:58Speaker 4: They didn't get their wake-up call. They muddled through the game.
- 10:01Speaker 4: They didn't close at all. They let Florida stay with
- 10:03Speaker 4: them the entire way. And now Texas, I think there's
- 10:06Speaker 4: a real impact for Alabama and Texas. Two losses at
- 10:09Speaker 4: this point in the season with a lot of big
- 10:12Speaker 4: games left. That three-loss team is going to be watching.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Oh, my God. I mean, Texas last year was a
- 10:17Speaker 3: three-loss team. Lost to Florida, cost them the playoff. But
- 10:20Speaker 3: I don't even know if Texas is going to be
- 10:23Speaker 3: three losses.
- 10:23Speaker 6: No.
- 10:24Speaker 3: I don't know where there's, you know, there are a
- 10:25Speaker 3: lot of teams that could beat them right now.
- 10:26Speaker 4: I think you're 100% right. Texas, the meat of their
- 10:29Speaker 4: schedule is coming up. You know, like the Indiana loss
- 10:32Speaker 4: isn't so bad because it's to Ohio State and they
- 10:34Speaker 4: could have had it.
- 10:35Speaker 5: So we have to agree, I think.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Well, here's the thing. With NIL, do you have any
- 10:40Speaker 3: sense of the number one is Miami, number two is BYU?
- 10:43Speaker 3: Are they any better than the 8, 9, 10 team?
- 10:46Speaker 3: And Ohio State lost their quarterback. So what's happening there?
- 10:49Speaker 3: It's chaos. I think NIL spread out the talent so
- 10:51Speaker 3: much that we really have no idea. Now, I know
- 10:54Speaker 3: these are massive upsets, but it's almost like you don't know.
- 10:58Speaker 4: If I would have showed you this top 10 list
- 11:00Speaker 4: that we have on the screen.
- 11:02Speaker 5: Eight weeks ago, you said, well, that's not possible. I mean,
- 11:04Speaker 5: that's not mathematically possible.
- 11:06Speaker 3: And Notre Dame's still favored to win it all. For example,
- 11:09Speaker 3: number nine, UCLA. If UCLA played Alabama in the playoff,
- 11:13Speaker 3: would you be surprised if Alabama beat them by two touchdowns?
- 11:15Speaker 4: No, we're at the point, we're still using the old
- 11:17Speaker 4: AP top 10, and we think because you're in the
- 11:20Speaker 4: top 10, you're a heavyweight. And it's like this entire
- 11:23Speaker 4: sport is surrounded by or encompassed by middleweights.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Exactly. Exactly. I almost feel like they should get rid
- 11:29Speaker 3: of the AP Top 10 poll because it's too much reputation,
- 11:32Speaker 3: too much last year, too much five-star recruits, not enough reality.
- 11:37Speaker 4: But you know why they will never get rid of
- 11:38Speaker 4: that poll? Because when the networks are promoting what's coming
- 11:40Speaker 4: up this weekend. Number two versus number four. They have
- 11:44Speaker 4: to have those numbers next to it.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 11:46Speaker 5: All right.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Coming up next, we're going to get into the 24-team
- 11:49Speaker 3: college football playoff field. DP had a strong take, and
- 11:52Speaker 3: he's going to come in and defend the 24-est. That's next.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Not so fast.
- 11:56Speaker 5: Is he becoming a 24-est?
- 11:58Speaker 3: I think he's captain of the 24-est.
- 12:01Speaker 5: He was a forest for years. First team all forest.
- 12:04Speaker 3: It's a new sport, though. It's a different sport than
- 12:06Speaker 3: it was years ago.
- 12:07Speaker 2: 24-est.
- 12:09Speaker 3: Welcome back, Not So Fast, Perloff, and Paps. We are
- 12:12Speaker 3: very lucky right now to have DP with us. So
- 12:16Speaker 3: you came on this morning and I think defended the
- 12:18Speaker 3: 24-team playoff field and got us all fired up. We're 24-ists. Oh,
- 12:25Speaker 3: you are. We're 24-ists.
- 12:26Speaker 2: You're Kiefer Sutherland.
- 12:28Speaker 3: But I feel like you get a lot of pushback
- 12:30Speaker 3: on this topic. A lot of people are still not
- 12:32Speaker 3: comfortable with it.
- 12:33Speaker 2: I'm okay with it. Like, I have to look at
- 12:36Speaker 2: the totality of it. What are the positives here? Do
- 12:39Speaker 2: I like that these commissioners and presidents and chancellors and coaches,
- 12:44Speaker 2: you know, they're all greedy for this? Yes, they are.
- 12:47Speaker 2: And they fast-tracked from 12 to 24 way too soon,
- 12:51Speaker 2: in my opinion. But I still think that you're going
- 12:54Speaker 2: to have 40 schools that may entertain the hope that
- 12:59Speaker 2: they can make the playoffs. 24 you're taking, you're going
- 13:03Speaker 2: to have one– one win or one loss that's going
- 13:06Speaker 2: to separate a lot of schools here. Therefore, those games
- 13:09Speaker 2: in November are going to mean something. We have games
- 13:13Speaker 2: in September that mean things. The problem I have is
- 13:17Speaker 2: we get to November, those games don't mean anything. And
- 13:19Speaker 2: then the bowl games don't mean anything.
- 13:21Speaker 4: See, I think you're kind of a realist, not an extremist.
- 13:24Speaker 4: And so you would probably prefer 12, just staying 12.
- 13:27Speaker 4: But once you get to 24, and you saw the
- 13:29Speaker 4: reaction last week, people are like, Well, the regular season
- 13:31Speaker 4: is not going to matter at all. And you didn't
- 13:33Speaker 4: like that because that's way too extreme of a take
- 13:35Speaker 4: because this weekend would still matter.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Yes. You're still going to be excited about those games.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Like if you ask the BYU fans, hey, did you
- 13:43Speaker 2: like that game? Yes. But you know what that means
- 13:46Speaker 2: down the road for our playoff? I mean, yes, it
- 13:49Speaker 2: does help them.
- 13:50Speaker 4: Like as they're running on the field, they go, this
- 13:51Speaker 4: doesn't really matter so much.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Well, how about Auburn? Do you think if you ask
- 13:55Speaker 2: those fans, hey, that game mattered, but it's not going
- 14:00Speaker 2: to matter the rest of the season for you. You're
- 14:02Speaker 2: not going to make the playoff. And they'll be like, okay,
- 14:04Speaker 2: we still beat Alabama. I think appreciating those games in
- 14:09Speaker 2: the moment won't go away because it's 100,000 people at
- 14:12Speaker 2: those games. The NFL is different. The Rams could lose
- 14:17Speaker 2: that game to the Cardinals, and then you go, okay,
- 14:21Speaker 2: that won't hurt them. They can still win their division.
- 14:24Speaker 2: But I think we get lost in the, here we go,
- 14:27Speaker 2: just like college basketball. The regular season is ruined. When
- 14:30Speaker 2: I don't think it is, you could have bowl games
- 14:33Speaker 2: now moved up into September. Let's say you wanted to
- 14:36Speaker 2: do the— Pull in Weed Eater Bull and you affix
- 14:40Speaker 2: that to a game like Ohio State and Texas.
- 14:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Like who's to say you can't do that? So you
- 14:46Speaker 2: could front load games. What if I incentivized teams to
- 14:50Speaker 2: schedule quality opponents?
- 14:53Speaker 3: Please. That's exactly right.
- 14:54Speaker 5: That's exactly right.
- 14:55Speaker 4: Because if they somehow trick up the new system and
- 14:58Speaker 4: give you really like. Oregon scheduling Portland and winning 73
- 15:03Speaker 4: gets you nothing. But if Oregon schedules Notre Dame and
- 15:06Speaker 4: they lose by one, you get more for that than
- 15:08Speaker 4: you do for losing to a subpar team.
- 15:11Speaker 2: But if you can monetarily incentivize, why wouldn't you do that?
- 15:16Speaker 2: If you're trying to create a TV schedule, like you
- 15:18Speaker 2: want great games, your CBS, your ABC, ESPN. If you
- 15:22Speaker 2: can have a pool of money where you can go, okay,
- 15:24Speaker 2: whoever schedules these games or the best games wins. We'll
- 15:28Speaker 2: put you on, and then you get this kind of money.
- 15:31Speaker 2: I think you're going to see the Big Ten SEC
- 15:35Speaker 2: one weekend where it's just those teams matching up with
- 15:40Speaker 2: each other.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Oh, like a preseason.
- 15:43Speaker 2: They do that in basketball. Just like the Big Ten
- 15:46Speaker 2: and ACC. I think that's on the docket here.
- 15:49Speaker 3: What about blowouts in the first round? I actually have,
- 15:51Speaker 3: using the current rankings, some of the matchups, you'd have
- 15:55Speaker 3: Missouri against Tennessee in the first round, Texas-Houston. Boise, Kentucky.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Do you think you'd have blowouts early on?
- 16:02Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 16:03Speaker 3: But with NIL, there's so much parity. I'm not sure
- 16:06Speaker 3: how many blowouts there'd be.
- 16:07Speaker 2: I think the fact that you do have the parity,
- 16:11Speaker 2: you can't say, well, that team has no chance. Because
- 16:14Speaker 2: we're finding out that those teams do have a chance
- 16:16Speaker 2: because now you don't stack running backs and linemen and
- 16:21Speaker 2: they go elsewhere to play. Now you could have a
- 16:24Speaker 2: program that pops up. It's like little pop-up shops in
- 16:28Speaker 2: New York. It just pops up. You've got to deal
- 16:30Speaker 2: with them. And I think that's what's happening with college football.
- 16:33Speaker 2: So what if you have a blowout? We have blowouts
- 16:35Speaker 2: in college basketball.
- 16:37Speaker 5: All the time.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. And you have upsets, too.
- 16:40Speaker 5: Yes.
- 16:40Speaker 4: One thing I like that you brought up on the show,
- 16:42Speaker 4: because for those of us who are just north of 50,
- 16:44Speaker 4: you remember when it was a vote.
- 16:46Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 16:46Speaker 4: You had to tune in the next day and find
- 16:48Speaker 4: out who the AP decided would be the national title holder.
- 16:51Speaker 2: How crazy is that? You have coaches who voted on this,
- 16:54Speaker 2: coaches who don't. They watch the least amount of games
- 16:58Speaker 2: of anybody because they only care about their program. And
- 17:01Speaker 2: I'm going... And we're going to have Georgia Tech and
- 17:04Speaker 2: Colorado co-champs.
- 17:05Speaker 4: And this wasn't like 1954. This was 1991. This is
- 17:08Speaker 4: in recent life history.
- 17:10Speaker 2: So we've come a long way.
- 17:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:13Speaker 2: And if you said we're going to go back to
- 17:15Speaker 2: the BCS or we can have 24, I'll take 24.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Would I like 12? Yes. I wanted to stay at
- 17:23Speaker 2: 12 for a little while longer. But, you know, we
- 17:26Speaker 2: fast track. We want more playoff. Every league wants more
- 17:29Speaker 2: playoff teams, more revenue. And that's what college football has.
- 17:34Speaker 3: How good is Arch Manning? I know, not even from NFL.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Are they going to bench him?
- 17:40Speaker 2: Well, Rick Neuheisel suggested that.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Which I found interesting, because maybe you let him sit
- 17:48Speaker 2: and kind of... He already sat behind Quinn Ewers.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Yeah, two years, right?
- 17:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know what he's going to see here.
- 17:56Speaker 2: And Neuheisel said, look, he's not definitive. When he goes
- 17:59Speaker 2: back to pass... He doesn't plant that back foot. He
- 18:03Speaker 2: holds on to the ball. This goes back to what
- 18:06Speaker 2: a scout told me about him and Shador Sanders and
- 18:09Speaker 2: a couple other quarterbacks. You have to process so quickly.
- 18:13Speaker 2: This is college. College is supposed to be easy. Now,
- 18:17Speaker 2: Shador having trouble with that in the NFL. Arch shouldn't
- 18:20Speaker 2: be having problems. You're playing great teams. You should not
- 18:24Speaker 2: be having problems processing. And that's what his take was
- 18:28Speaker 2: on Arch. He said first-round talent matters. but there's so
- 18:31Speaker 2: much more when you're drafting quarterbacks.
- 18:33Speaker 4: And I'm so fascinated to see how this plays out.
- 18:35Speaker 4: If somehow Sarkeesian gets another year, because they have a
- 18:37Speaker 4: tough schedule to go, if it goes another year and
- 18:40Speaker 4: Sarkeesian decides he wants to go with a younger, more
- 18:42Speaker 4: promising recruit-type quarterback, could Arch Manning transfer? Lots of teams
- 18:47Speaker 4: would line up to have him, but the ending to
- 18:50Speaker 4: the story, it's like a college football saga.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Yeah, there's so much heat. It goes along with the territory,
- 18:56Speaker 2: but Sark is doing a disservice to the situation where
- 19:00Speaker 2: he's like, if this guy is John Smith, we would
- 19:04Speaker 2: be saying you've got to get that quarterback out of there.
- 19:06Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. He was right by saying we would treat
- 19:09Speaker 3: him differently, but not the way he meant.
- 19:11Speaker 5: No, no.
- 19:12Speaker 2: But look, I think maybe Sark is not the right
- 19:17Speaker 2: coach for him. It's the only thing I thought of. Now,
- 19:20Speaker 2: Quinn Ewers played great at Texas, but I just don't know.
- 19:24Speaker 2: There's a disconnect there. It just doesn't. Sark is supposed
- 19:27Speaker 2: to be the quarterback whisperer, offensive-minded.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:30Speaker 2: They have all the resources. Like, Texas should be the
- 19:32Speaker 2: best team in the country.
- 19:33Speaker 3: I remember when he was at Alabama, everybody seemed to
- 19:35Speaker 3: be running open, and that was when he was an OC, though, right? Right.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Yeah, but at Alabama, everybody did run open, though, Andrew.
- 19:42Speaker 4: Remember Lane Kiffin used to start celebrating before the play
- 19:44Speaker 4: was even open?
- 19:45Speaker 3: Yeah, Devontae Smith and Henry Ruggs.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I could have been the OC there.
- 19:49Speaker 5: You should have. That would have been fun.
- 19:50Speaker 2: All right, my next job.
- 19:52Speaker 3: I have to ask the gratuitous, are my Eagles done?
- 19:56Speaker 3: How done are we? And I went, wait.
- 19:58Speaker 2: It's not just the quarterbacking situation. You got injuries. You
- 20:03Speaker 2: got retirement. You trade a lineman. Sirianni... just never feels
- 20:11Speaker 2: truly embedded there. Like, it's just a weird vibe. And
- 20:15Speaker 2: it feels like every year we say the same thing.
- 20:19Speaker 2: I mean, if Sirianni doesn't win the Super Bowl, I
- 20:21Speaker 2: don't think there's any way he's still the head coach there.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Really? No.
- 20:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:25Speaker 3: No.
- 20:26Speaker 2: It's like, okay, you won the Super Bowl. All right,
- 20:29Speaker 2: you get to keep the job. And I think that that's,
- 20:33Speaker 2: it's always going to be there, but it's tricky because
- 20:35Speaker 2: they have so much talent and that division is winnable.
- 20:38Speaker 7: Yes.
- 20:38Speaker 6: Yes.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Like, everybody's going to lose. If the commanders lose tonight,
- 20:41Speaker 2: everybody's going to lose. That's back-to-back weeks where everybody lost
- 20:45Speaker 2: in the division.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Somebody's got to win. Are you doing a watch party?
- 20:49Speaker 3: Is it the Eagles, Cowboys?
- 20:50Speaker 2: I've got to find out if Shea and Irving wants
- 20:53Speaker 2: to go through the pain again.
- 20:54Speaker 5: It gets ugly, doesn't it?
- 20:56Speaker 2: Oh, it gets great. Yeah. Like, if you like to
- 20:59Speaker 2: see a grown man cry, then it's for you. And
- 21:03Speaker 2: you want to see the Cowboys lose, then it's great.
- 21:05Speaker 3: I'm a little bit afraid of coming to the Watch
- 21:07Speaker 3: Party because I'm afraid if the Eagles do beat the Cowboys,
- 21:10Speaker 3: I think Shea would beat me up on the live stream.
- 21:13Speaker 2: It's good content.
- 21:14Speaker 3: Yeah, you would.
- 21:15Speaker 2: I mean, that's... No, no, Shea just loves the Cowboys.
- 21:19Speaker 3: He does.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Like, he truly... It impacts his life. Way too much. But...
- 21:24Speaker 2: It impacted his life. Like, he was ready to leave.
- 21:27Speaker 2: He was going to leave, and he stormed out, and
- 21:29Speaker 2: he comes back, and he's just miserable. But it's awesome.
- 21:35Speaker 3: All right, Dan, thanks for the time. All right, we've
- 21:37Speaker 3: got to break down more of the college football. We've
- 21:41Speaker 3: got to break down more of the college football upsets,
- 21:43Speaker 3: and I have a warm take on the Green Bay Packers,
- 21:45Speaker 3: who is my new team. Is that fair?
- 21:48Speaker 2: And they're playing great defense.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:50Speaker 5: Your Packers.
- 21:50Speaker 3: Yeah, my Packers. And Jordan Love.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:53Speaker 3: Remember when I was an Eagles fan?
- 21:54Speaker 2: Last week.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Weeks ago. All right. Thanks, Dan. We'll be back. Not
- 21:58Speaker 3: so fast.
- 22:00Speaker 5: There it is.
- 22:00Speaker 3: That's it.
- 22:01Speaker 2: That's how we do it right there.
- 22:03Speaker 3: That's how we do it.
- 22:04Speaker 5: Corduroy hops.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Corduroy.
- 22:10Speaker 4: Back on Not So Fast. Passing Pearl off NBC Sports now.
- 22:12Speaker 4: Noah Eagle joining us from NBC Sports tomorrow.
- 22:15Speaker 7: Here we go.
- 22:16Speaker 4: Watch this play by Josh Allen. This doesn't look real. See,
- 22:22Speaker 4: when he does it, it works out, Pearl.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:25Speaker 4: When most quarterbacks do this, it goes pick six the
- 22:27Speaker 4: other way.
- 22:28Speaker 3: Yeah. I feel like there's only two QBs who can
- 22:31Speaker 3: do things like this, Mahomes and Allen. And now Allen
- 22:33Speaker 3: loves doing this. So I got to tell you, I
- 22:35Speaker 3: have seen times where it has not worked out.
- 22:37Speaker 5: That looked farvian. That looked like a power shovel pass.
- 22:40Speaker 3: It looked like a dad in the backyard playing with
- 22:42Speaker 3: the kids.
- 22:43Speaker 5: Yeah, and it worked out. It had another great game.
- 22:45Speaker 4: He's entering the point of his career where... Mahomes is
- 22:49Speaker 4: having fewer of these highlight-type plays, and they all are
- 22:53Speaker 4: sort of kind of going to Josh Allen these days.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Oh, absolutely. Yeah, I mean, Mahomes hasn't thrown a left-handed
- 22:57Speaker 3: pass or a no-looker in forever. Stafford throws a no-look.
- 23:01Speaker 3: That's really cool, but when you're 2-4, nothing looks good.
- 23:04Speaker 4: Yeah, Mahomes, spice it up a little bit. We're keeping
- 23:05Speaker 4: an eye on you. All right, it's time for Warm Takes.
- 23:07Speaker 4: A little warmness to get you ready.
- 23:09Speaker 5: For the October cold.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Here we go, Pearl.
- 23:12Speaker 5: For those of you.
- 23:13Speaker 4: Who love college football and love college football chaos, Saturday
- 23:16Speaker 4: was fantastic.
- 23:17Speaker 5: But do you know who really loves Saturday and college football?
- 23:20Speaker 4: The creators and supporters of a 24-team playoff. We talked
- 23:23Speaker 4: about this, but this was the perfect scenario. You drop
- 23:26Speaker 4: the intentions for a 24-team playoff on Thursday.
- 23:29Speaker 5: It gets chopped up on Friday.
- 23:31Speaker 4: And then on Saturday, you have a bunch of heavyweight teams,
- 23:34Speaker 4: air quotes heavyweights, getting taken down by air quote subpar teams.
- 23:38Speaker 4: This looks like the first round of the playoffs. Florida
- 23:41Speaker 4: versus Texas, it can happen. Ole Miss-Mizzou, Mizzou got smoked. Tennessee-Alabama,
- 23:47Speaker 4: that sounds like a first-round playoff game. This was the
- 23:49Speaker 4: perfect scenario for those who want a 2014 playoff, which
- 23:53Speaker 4: again is happening next year. Now, that said, did this
- 23:56Speaker 4: lessen the impact on people? Will this lessen the people
- 23:58Speaker 4: who don't want a 2014 playoff? Maybe a little bit,
- 24:01Speaker 4: but this day will have a different feel next year.
- 24:05Speaker 4: Next year, When this happens, Texas won't feel like they're
- 24:08Speaker 4: in a jam and Alabama won't feel like they're in
- 24:10Speaker 4: a jam. There'll be a lot more room for them
- 24:12Speaker 4: to breathe or a lot more room for them to
- 24:14Speaker 4: fail or lose another game.
- 24:16Speaker 5: That's the only thing.
- 24:17Speaker 4: Like Dan Patrick said 10 minutes ago here on Not
- 24:19Speaker 4: So Fast, if you're watching that BYU-Notre Dame game or
- 24:22Speaker 4: that Texas game, Florida, you're not going to be like,
- 24:25Speaker 4: As you're cheering your team on to the upset, you're
- 24:27Speaker 4: not going to be like, well, this won't matter that much.
- 24:29Speaker 2: No.
- 24:29Speaker 4: But during the week, as you chop it up, you're like, well,
- 24:32Speaker 4: that game didn't have a whole lot of impact.
- 24:34Speaker 5: Still, a great college football weekend.
- 24:35Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, look at when we went from 4
- 24:37Speaker 3: to 12. I still think college football is as fun
- 24:40Speaker 3: as ever. Right. So there was no huge downside. Now,
- 24:43Speaker 3: I think, and Dan brought up in the last segment,
- 24:45Speaker 3: there is a little bit of a fear that it
- 24:46Speaker 3: gets too big. Maybe 16 would have been a better number.
- 24:49Speaker 3: But I always go back to it. I've said this
- 24:50Speaker 3: many times. Last year, Notre Dame was 13th. Basically. They
- 24:54Speaker 3: didn't get in. They could have won the title last year.
- 24:56Speaker 3: They might have been the best team in that field.
- 24:57Speaker 3: They would have played Indiana very closely. I think Notre
- 25:02Speaker 3: Dame could have won last year. And this year, you
- 25:03Speaker 3: might have a team in the bottom half of the
- 25:05Speaker 3: 24 who is threatening.
- 25:07Speaker 5: Well, that's the real point here of this new 2014 playoff.
- 25:10Speaker 4: Is that teams who are ranked in the top 30
- 25:12Speaker 4: will still be in play. Like if you're Wake Forest,
- 25:14Speaker 4: you're having a season of your life. Now, you'll have
- 25:17Speaker 4: room for maybe one mistake, but I don't think you
- 25:20Speaker 4: get much more than that if you're Wake Forest. But
- 25:21Speaker 4: a team like Missouri, you could afford that mistake. Ole
- 25:25Speaker 4: Miss had a mistake early in the season. Now Ole
- 25:27Speaker 4: Miss is riding the ship. So there's a little more
- 25:30Speaker 4: room for the people who are trying to work their
- 25:31Speaker 4: way back up.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Oh, absolutely. I mean, that being said, Texas, I think,
- 25:35Speaker 3: is still– possibly floating around 25.
- 25:38Speaker 5: Every game's a playoff game.
- 25:40Speaker 3: That's a team that has enough talent that if they
- 25:42Speaker 3: snuck in in a 2014 playoff, they could win the
- 25:44Speaker 3: whole thing. Although it's definitely not going to make the 12th.
- 25:46Speaker 5: Like Notre Dame last year.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Like Notre Dame last year. No, I love it. I'm
- 25:49Speaker 3: a 24. It's full on. All right, let's go to
- 25:52Speaker 3: the NFL. We haven't really talked about this team who
- 25:55Speaker 3: was dominant on Sunday Night Football. The Green Bay Packers
- 25:58Speaker 3: beat the Dallas Cowboys. The Packers defense all of a
- 26:01Speaker 3: sudden is great. The last three games, they've let up
- 26:04Speaker 3: 14 points to Tampa Bay, 7 to Chicago, and 13
- 26:07Speaker 3: to Dallas. And Dallas, by all the analytics, has one
- 26:10Speaker 3: of the best offenses in the league. So this is
- 26:12Speaker 3: a great achievement. Offensively, Matthew Golden stepped up a couple drops,
- 26:17Speaker 3: but a couple amazing plays. All of a sudden, Green
- 26:19Speaker 3: Bay is back. Now, this to me proves a bigger point, Paul.
- 26:22Speaker 3: You have no idea what's happening after the first three
- 26:24Speaker 3: weeks of the season. Green Bay was 1-2. If you remember,
- 26:28Speaker 3: they blew that big lead against the Vikings in Week 1.
- 26:30Speaker 3: Then they went to overtime against the New York Jets,
- 26:33Speaker 3: who were terrible. Then they got blown out by Atlanta 35-14. Ugly.
- 26:37Speaker 3: We were ready to totally give up on this team.
- 26:40Speaker 3: They didn't look good on either side of the ball.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Now they look great on defense, and they're still getting
- 26:43Speaker 3: Micah Parsons back. and they look great on offense, and
- 26:46Speaker 3: they're getting Josh Jacobs, the running back, back. Their one
- 26:49Speaker 3: flaw is they can't run the ball, so they get
- 26:51Speaker 3: their running back back. Jordan Love, I think he's putting
- 26:54Speaker 3: to rest any questions about whether he's an elite quarterback.
- 26:57Speaker 3: He looks like the heir apparent to Aaron Rodgers as
- 26:59Speaker 3: far as talent goes. Now, he's not quite as accomplished.
- 27:02Speaker 3: He's so good. He was beautiful to watch last night.
- 27:04Speaker 4: A couple things that stand out there. I heard an
- 27:06Speaker 4: announcer say that Jordan Love throws an easy ball.
- 27:09Speaker 3: Yes, I love that.
- 27:09Speaker 4: He goes, he's just playing pitch and catch out there.
- 27:11Speaker 4: I don't know exactly what that means, but I think
- 27:13Speaker 4: it was a compliment. He does not have like a
- 27:15Speaker 4: laser arm. He just kind of cruises through the game
- 27:17Speaker 4: and easy throws right on the money.
- 27:19Speaker 3: That being said, he has plenty of arm strength.
- 27:21Speaker 5: Plenty of arm strength.
- 27:21Speaker 3: He can get the ball in anywhere he wants.
- 27:23Speaker 4: But you go back to, like you said, in September,
- 27:26Speaker 4: everybody was off the Packers. One thing we should learn
- 27:29Speaker 4: and we won't learn for next September. is that the
- 27:31Speaker 4: extreme things that happen in September, you should ignore. Like
- 27:35Speaker 4: how bad the Patriots and Drake May were, you should
- 27:37Speaker 4: actually ignore the extreme, but we won't in September.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Well, maybe we're, you know, the thing is looking forward.
- 27:43Speaker 3: Are we underestimating the Rams for the same reasons? Once
- 27:45Speaker 3: they get Myles Garrett back, maybe they're going to be
- 27:47Speaker 3: the best team in football because it's only six weeks in.
- 27:49Speaker 5: All right, my next warm take is this.
- 27:51Speaker 4: The end of the BYU upset game versus Notre Dame
- 27:54Speaker 4: on Saturday night was a wild scene. You could easily
- 27:56Speaker 4: make the case that Notre Dame was interfered with by
- 27:59Speaker 4: BYU on that final throw.
- 28:00Speaker 5: Maybe, maybe not. It looked like it, but even so.
- 28:03Speaker 3: There's no maybe, maybe not.
- 28:04Speaker 5: Let's watch it play. This looks like P.I.
- 28:05Speaker 3: Okay, great.
- 28:06Speaker 4: Now, the other bigger picture is there was one second
- 28:09Speaker 4: left on the clock, clearly, when this ball hit the ground. Now,
- 28:12Speaker 4: once the fans run on the field and the refs
- 28:14Speaker 4: don't say the hold up, hold up thing, there's nothing
- 28:17Speaker 4: you can do about it, right? So the Big 12
- 28:20Speaker 4: issued a statement after the game. They said quickly, within
- 28:22Speaker 4: 12 hours after the game, The Big 12 review of
- 28:25Speaker 4: the final play determined that it was one second left
- 28:28Speaker 4: on the clock when the ball hit the ground, and
- 28:30Speaker 4: the play was incorrectly cleared by the replay officiating crew.
- 28:34Speaker 4: So even in replay, they didn't signal down. The conference
- 28:37Speaker 4: will conduct a complete review, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 28:40Speaker 4: Doesn't help Notre Dame.
- 28:41Speaker 5: Totally helps BYU.
- 28:42Speaker 4: Now, the refs really can't clear 30,000 people off a field,
- 28:47Speaker 4: or can they? I guess they could if they just said, hey,
- 28:49Speaker 4: this game isn't over. The PA guy says it's not over.
- 28:51Speaker 5: They could do it. I don't think they had a chance.
- 28:53Speaker 5: And one of the reasons they didn't have a chance.
- 28:56Speaker 4: Was BYU legend Steve Young.
- 28:58Speaker 5: Watch in the bottom of your screen here.
- 28:59Speaker 4: When this ball drops, there's a guy in a blue
- 29:02Speaker 4: vest on brand for Greenwich guy.
- 29:04Speaker 5: Who runs on the field first. There's Steve Young.
- 29:06Speaker 4: The ball hasn't even settled yet, and Steve Young is
- 29:09Speaker 4: leading the charge.
- 29:10Speaker 3: Brilliant.
- 29:10Speaker 4: If I'm in the stands and I see BYU legend
- 29:13Speaker 4: Steve Young running on the field, I'm running right with him.
- 29:16Speaker 4: So he actually helped his team in the moment because
- 29:20Speaker 4: imagine nobody runs on the field.
- 29:21Speaker 3: There he is.
- 29:23Speaker 4: They're still tumbling around the field, and Steve's high-stepping like
- 29:26Speaker 4: it's FAMU.
- 29:27Speaker 3: I love it.
- 29:27Speaker 4: Great job by Steve Young to push the envelope. I
- 29:30Speaker 4: think he did it on purpose. I love where his
- 29:32Speaker 4: head's at. But that is a BYU legend leading the
- 29:34Speaker 4: fans on the field. And once those fans got on
- 29:36Speaker 4: the field, there was nothing the refs could do about it.
- 29:39Speaker 3: I don't think Steve would admit that he did that
- 29:42Speaker 3: intentionally to screw up the refs, though. I think he
- 29:44Speaker 3: would say in the moment.
- 29:45Speaker 5: If it's unintentional, it's great. If it's intentional, it's great.
- 29:47Speaker 4: But it really did have an impact on the refs
- 29:49Speaker 4: because you can't see the ref on the bottom by
- 29:51Speaker 4: the pylon. because he's already being swarmed by BYU faith.
- 29:55Speaker 3: I still think the ref sort of had his hand
- 29:57Speaker 3: in his back pocket. I think they were still thinking
- 29:59Speaker 3: about throwing the play. It was a maybe, maybe not.
- 30:01Speaker 3: That is defensive pass interference. I don't care what point
- 30:04Speaker 3: of the game it is. He grabbed both arms. It
- 30:06Speaker 3: was obvious to me there was some jostling, but I
- 30:09Speaker 3: don't know. I'm not even worried about the one second
- 30:11Speaker 3: because I would have called DPI. But that being said,
- 30:14Speaker 3: hopefully both teams are alive for the playoff, and I
- 30:16Speaker 3: think they will be.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Should be.
- 30:17Speaker 3: Okay, for my next warm take, back to the NFL.
- 30:20Speaker 3: I think that we can forget the rest of the
- 30:22Speaker 3: season in the AFC. Just everybody can relax and take
- 30:25Speaker 3: a break. We are going back to the early 2020s.
- 30:29Speaker 3: The Bills and Chiefs are playing in either the AFC
- 30:32Speaker 3: championship game or the AFC divisional round. Now, they played
- 30:35Speaker 3: four times since 2020, and the Chiefs have won them all.
- 30:38Speaker 3: But that being said, Josh Allen's got a breakthrough at
- 30:41Speaker 3: some point, and right now he's playing better than Mahomes.
- 30:43Speaker 3: So if you look at the odds, San Francisco is
- 30:45Speaker 3: the overall favorite. Then Chiefs and Bills are two and three.
- 30:49Speaker 3: What are we doing here right now? This feels like history.
- 30:51Speaker 3: They're basically bird magic for the NFL. And Josh Allen's
- 30:55Speaker 3: playing like Mahomes now. Mahomes still rounding into shape after
- 30:58Speaker 3: the injury. But it strikes me as crazy. It's like
- 31:02Speaker 3: nobody in the AFC really matters except for these two
- 31:05Speaker 3: teams since 2020. And I'm sorry, I don't even see anybody.
- 31:09Speaker 3: They might play in the divisional round, but I don't
- 31:11Speaker 3: see a real serious threat. to these two teams, and
- 31:14Speaker 3: I think history continues and wants Josh Allen and Patrick
- 31:17Speaker 3: Mahomes to have many showdowns, and it's coming. It's coming
- 31:21Speaker 3: at some point in the playoffs, and I cannot wait.
- 31:23Speaker 4: Does this remind you, not too long ago, when it
- 31:25Speaker 4: was Brady with the Patriots, Manning with the Colts, and
- 31:29Speaker 4: it felt like it was their division, sorry, their conference,
- 31:32Speaker 4: and someone else had to sneak in, but when you
- 31:33Speaker 4: look at this, There are some all-time possibly great quarterbacks
- 31:36Speaker 4: who may not get a shot at the Super Bowl. Now,
- 31:38Speaker 4: Joe Burrow had his shot, but Joe Burrow is going
- 31:41Speaker 4: to have a hard time getting back.
- 31:42Speaker 3: But I don't think, is he all-time great like Josh
- 31:44Speaker 3: Allen's all-time great?
- 31:45Speaker 5: No, he doesn't have the plays, the explosive.
- 31:47Speaker 4: But Josh, there was a point when Joe Burrow, when
- 31:50Speaker 4: he made that Super Bowl, was like, oh, the NFL
- 31:52Speaker 4: is now his. And because of injuries and some things
- 31:54Speaker 4: with his team, he kind of reverted back a little bit.
- 31:56Speaker 3: I think it's really Patrick Mahomes. I mean, it's almost
- 31:59Speaker 3: like Michael Jordan was in the 90s, basically. But Josh Allen,
- 32:03Speaker 3: particularly to me, is really, really pushing up against it.
- 32:06Speaker 3: Like he's close to breaking through. I don't know what's
- 32:08Speaker 3: going to happen to Joe Burrow. He's stuck in Cincinnati.
- 32:10Speaker 4: And if you look at Mahomes, his first 10 years
- 32:12Speaker 4: is as good as any first 10 years of a quarterback.
- 32:14Speaker 5: But will he have that gap?
- 32:16Speaker 4: He already has a little bit of a gap, Patrick Mahomes,
- 32:18Speaker 4: because of injury and some things that have happened to
- 32:20Speaker 4: his team. But Brady had a nine-year gap between Super
- 32:23Speaker 4: Bowl victories, and no one remembers it because he was
- 32:25Speaker 4: in a couple, and they lost to the Giants twice.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know. I feel like the way they've
- 32:30Speaker 3: started out this season, it doesn't feel like the gap's
- 32:32Speaker 3: going to be that long.
- 32:32Speaker 5: It shouldn't be that long. The defense is pretty good.
- 32:35Speaker 3: Even though Holmes is coming off the knee injury, if
- 32:38Speaker 3: it's the fourth quarter of a playoff game, isn't he
- 32:39Speaker 3: the guy you still trust?
- 32:41Speaker 5: That's the thing.
- 32:42Speaker 4: We talk about this here on Not So Fast that
- 32:44Speaker 4: who's the best quarterback in football. I think everyone's going
- 32:46Speaker 4: to say Josh Allen right now. But if you just
- 32:49Speaker 4: change the semantic one word and say, Who would you
- 32:51Speaker 4: want down seven, three minutes to go, no timeouts? I
- 32:56Speaker 4: think you're lying to yourself if you say Josh Allen
- 32:58Speaker 4: over Mahomes, even today.
- 32:59Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I mean, I think that Allen is right there.
- 33:03Speaker 3: Right there. We'll see in the playoffs. Can he really
- 33:05Speaker 3: go 0-5 against the Chiefs in this decade? That seems unbelievable,
- 33:10Speaker 3: but very possible.
- 33:10Speaker 5: And as we say every year, this feels like the
- 33:12Speaker 5: year that the Bills get over the hump. We say
- 33:14Speaker 5: that every year.
- 33:14Speaker 4: All right, coming up next. Oh, a lot coming up next.
- 33:18Speaker 4: We'll talk about the NFL, college football, and a lot,
- 33:20Speaker 4: lot more. Plus, your constructive criticism in just a little bit.
- 33:23Speaker 5: Stick around. Not so fast.
- 33:27Speaker 3: God, I can't wait to see Josh Allen go. You know,
- 33:30Speaker 3: he's going to be in a key playoff game. Is
- 33:32Speaker 3: he going to get over the hump?
- 33:33Speaker 5: By the way, NFL Play of the Year, Josh Allen's
- 33:34Speaker 5: going to be cemented.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Oh. What is missing from this ingredient here with Arch
- 33:44Speaker 2: and Steve Sarkisian?
- 33:46Speaker 1: The ability to go back and hit your back foot
- 33:50Speaker 1: and the ball come out of your hands. It just
- 33:52Speaker 1: feels like arch for whatever reason is holding the ball.
- 33:56Speaker 1: And when you hold the ball and you have any
- 33:58Speaker 1: vulnerability in your front, uh, which clearly they do, arch
- 34:02Speaker 1: has been harassed. What seems like all season long, uh,
- 34:07Speaker 1: Now you're in harm's way. And even some of the
- 34:11Speaker 1: big plays this year, go back to those fourth down
- 34:13Speaker 1: conversions against Ohio State, go back to that beautiful touchdown
- 34:17Speaker 1: to Cam Coleman in the Oklahoma game. Those are off-schedule plays.
- 34:21Speaker 1: He's kind of running around. The idea that you go
- 34:24Speaker 1: back and throw the ball beyond the line of scrimmage,
- 34:26Speaker 1: down there 10 to 15 yards, and hit your back
- 34:29Speaker 1: foot and let it go, it doesn't happen at Texas.
- 34:32Speaker 1: And I'm not sure why.
- 34:34Speaker 4: Back on Not So Fast, that was Steve.
- 34:35Speaker 3: That was off.
- 34:36Speaker 4: Rick Neuheisel with Dan Patrick talking about Steve Sarkeesian and
- 34:39Speaker 4: Arch Manning.
- 34:40Speaker 5: What did you think of that? There was a lot
- 34:41Speaker 5: to that clip.
- 34:42Speaker 3: Well, first of all, I agree with one thing that
- 34:44Speaker 3: he said that people are not talking about. The offensive
- 34:46Speaker 3: line is god-awful. It's not just bad. It's god-awful, and
- 34:49Speaker 3: they get paid more money than any offensive line probably ever,
- 34:53Speaker 3: which is weird. They can't run the ball at all.
- 34:56Speaker 3: I think a lot of people near Texas say, there's
- 35:00Speaker 3: plenty of problems besides Arch. Arch is just one of
- 35:02Speaker 3: the problems. Now, I just don't know why Arch is
- 35:04Speaker 3: not getting rid of the ball. I can't figure it
- 35:06Speaker 3: out I blame Steve Sarkeesian largely because isn't that the
- 35:10Speaker 3: coach's job to teach the quarterback to get rid of
- 35:11Speaker 3: the ball?
- 35:12Speaker 4: Right, and as an offensive coordinator, he's worked directly with quarterbacks.
- 35:14Speaker 4: He's not a D.C.
- 35:15Speaker 5: Who happens to be the head coach of the team.
- 35:17Speaker 4: When you watch it, again, as a civilian watching, you
- 35:20Speaker 4: do think that the guy pauses a lot in the pocket.
- 35:22Speaker 4: And like Rick Neuheisel said, I don't know why it's happening,
- 35:26Speaker 4: but it is happening.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Yeah, is it lack of processing? You know, one thing,
- 35:30Speaker 3: I kind of disagree with Dan a little bit. I'm
- 35:32Speaker 3: not sure Sark did the greatest job with Quinn Ewers
- 35:34Speaker 3: because Quinn Ewers was the number one overall recruit.
- 35:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 35:37Speaker 3: And he ended up being a seventh-round pick. Arch was
- 35:40Speaker 3: the number one overall recruit. He's probably going to end
- 35:42Speaker 3: up being, at this rate, a second-round pick. So I'm
- 35:45Speaker 3: not sure that Sark has that quarterback magic right now,
- 35:47Speaker 3: or the players are just a little flawed.
- 35:49Speaker 4: You know, I think I said maybe three or four
- 35:50Speaker 4: weeks ago, and not so fast, I would talk about, like,
- 35:53Speaker 4: could Arch Manning, if he wants to play another year,
- 35:55Speaker 4: look to play another place?
- 35:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:57Speaker 4: Be, like, proactive and say, like, look, this might not
- 36:00Speaker 4: work out. Also, Texas may be bringing in a younger
- 36:02Speaker 4: guy because they want to attract a top recruit, and cutting...
- 36:06Speaker 4: Arch Manning is not really possible because of the TV
- 36:09Speaker 4: fallout it may be. Could you see Arch Manning proactively
- 36:11Speaker 4: joining another roster next year?
- 36:13Speaker 3: No.
- 36:14Speaker 5: It's Texas or NFL?
- 36:15Speaker 3: So I think the first person to go will be
- 36:17Speaker 3: Steve Sharkeesian. So the question is, if they fire Sark,
- 36:21Speaker 3: does that mean Arch goes to the pros or goes
- 36:23Speaker 3: to another school?
- 36:23Speaker 5: Or stays and is part of whatever the coach that
- 36:26Speaker 5: comes in.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Yeah, that seems unlikely.
- 36:29Speaker 5: That seems unlikely.
- 36:29Speaker 2: To me.
- 36:30Speaker 3: But also, I think Sark and Arch have a great
- 36:31Speaker 3: chance to come back. If Arch says, I'm coming back,
- 36:34Speaker 3: if Arch... If Shark comes back, what does that remind
- 36:36Speaker 3: you of? What movie? Oh, Hoosiers. Yeah, it's Hoosiers. But
- 36:39Speaker 3: although he's not playing as well as Jimmy Chitwood, I
- 36:41Speaker 3: do think... Nice reference. And by the way, Arch was
- 36:44Speaker 3: good enough to beat Ohio State, who is probably the
- 36:47Speaker 3: best team in the country. So it's just inconsistent. But
- 36:51Speaker 3: why can't they run the football? It's college football. It's
- 36:53Speaker 3: not that hard to run the ball.
- 36:54Speaker 4: And I looked up their running backs. They're top recruits.
- 36:56Speaker 4: These are big-time running backs.
- 36:57Speaker 3: Yeah, they paid time for these guys. They're both out
- 37:00Speaker 3: of transfer portal, and it's not working. Now, Arch is back,
- 37:03Speaker 3: but if Arch off-platform, that play that he made that
- 37:06Speaker 3: looked like to get the ball on the fourth down
- 37:09Speaker 3: to keep them in the game, that was incredible. He
- 37:11Speaker 3: still makes great plays.
- 37:12Speaker 5: Yeah, he's better rolling out.
- 37:13Speaker 4: All right, let's go back to that BYU-Notre Dame game.
- 37:16Speaker 4: You know, BYU, did they get the benefit of a
- 37:18Speaker 4: call or two late in the game? A lot of
- 37:19Speaker 4: people think so. Marcus Freeman, the head coach of Notre Dame,
- 37:22Speaker 4: was asked about the refs after the game.
- 37:24Speaker 7: It was chaos, man. I'm obviously going to probably.
- 37:30Speaker 7: Feel some type of way when I'm out there.
- 37:31Speaker 2: We'll watch it, but.
- 37:34Speaker 3: It is what it is.
- 37:35Speaker 7: I know people are going to look for me to
- 37:37Speaker 7: put blame on somebody else. That's not what we do
- 37:40Speaker 7: around here. We own it, and we've got to be better,
- 37:43Speaker 7: and we've got to execute no matter what the situation is.
- 37:45Speaker 4: So I think this is a smart move by Marcus
- 37:47Speaker 4: Freeman because he's going to let other people rip the
- 37:49Speaker 4: refs at the end of that game and how they
- 37:50Speaker 4: handle it because it's pretty clear There was at least one,
- 37:53Speaker 4: if not two, mistakes. The one thing, though, Marcus Freeman
- 37:55Speaker 4: doesn't answer to anybody. If he decided to rip the refs,
- 37:58Speaker 4: there's no conference office that's going to find him. There's
- 38:00Speaker 4: no NCAA office that's going to find him. He's not findable.
- 38:04Speaker 4: So he actually took the high road, which is probably
- 38:07Speaker 4: a smart move. I'm curious what we'd be talking about
- 38:10Speaker 4: today if this were reversed. and Notre Dame was on
- 38:13Speaker 4: defense there, and BYU was on offense.
- 38:14Speaker 3: Everybody would say, oh, Notre Dame getting all the calls again.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Yes.
- 38:18Speaker 3: 100%. One thing about Freeman, though, and Notre Dame, is
- 38:23Speaker 3: this part, to me, the fact that they never schedule
- 38:25Speaker 3: anybody and that they have no idea how to play
- 38:27Speaker 3: a good team in a close game because they have
- 38:29Speaker 3: basically Navy, Army, all these terrible teams on their schedule?
- 38:33Speaker 4: Yeah, they schedule years in advance. They have Boston College
- 38:35Speaker 4: as like a legacy game. Navy's a legacy game. Stanford
- 38:38Speaker 4: is a legacy game on the roster. And those games
- 38:40Speaker 4: are often friendly. Sometimes Stanford's good. Sometimes Navy's threatening. But
- 38:45Speaker 4: more often than not, they're a C-level team. But I
- 38:48Speaker 4: do think, though, Notre Dame's in a situation like, was
- 38:50Speaker 4: that a good game for them?
- 38:52Speaker 5: Because they got tested hard. They did lose.
- 38:54Speaker 4: And they have Miami on November 7th at home. That's
- 38:57Speaker 4: the one they have to win. More so now.
- 39:00Speaker 3: I mean, listen, last year the committee did not let
- 39:03Speaker 3: them in. So now they kind of have, let's say
- 39:05Speaker 3: they have two losses to BYU and Miami. They're not
- 39:09Speaker 3: going to have the teams. There's no conference title game.
- 39:11Speaker 3: There's no way to get that back.
- 39:13Speaker 4: I think two losses really hurts Notre Dame in the
- 39:15Speaker 4: fact that there's so many teams jockeying for these 12 spots.
- 39:18Speaker 5: Notre Dame has a provision in their deal with the
- 39:21Speaker 5: NCAA right now.
- 39:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I forgot about that.
- 39:22Speaker 5: In their deal with the college football playoffs.
- 39:24Speaker 4: If they're ranked in the top 12, they're in. Nothing
- 39:28Speaker 4: else supersedes it. No other conference deal supersedes it.
- 39:30Speaker 3: So if they lose to Miami, can they stay in
- 39:33Speaker 3: the top 12? But how are they going to earn
- 39:34Speaker 3: those wins without strength? By the way, I think next
- 39:36Speaker 3: year they do have a hard schedule, I believe.
- 39:38Speaker 5: Yes, harder.
- 39:38Speaker 3: Yeah, a much harder schedule. So then they'll be at
- 39:42Speaker 3: 24 teams. And Notre Dame, that would be so embarrassing
- 39:45Speaker 3: if they didn't make the 12-team playoff.
- 39:46Speaker 5: This year, it would be really embarrassing.
- 39:47Speaker 3: Because they really only have two games on their schedule.
- 39:49Speaker 5: Yes, that should be worse than last year.
- 39:52Speaker 3: Okay, our next clip comes from our guy Jim Harbaugh.
- 39:56Speaker 5: Becoming regular.
- 39:57Speaker 3: There's nothing Jim Harbaugh can say to help the Chargers
- 39:59Speaker 3: right now, but he gave it his best shot and
- 40:02Speaker 3: commented on offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.
- 40:04Speaker 6: We're going to look at everything. The job I'm doing,
- 40:06Speaker 6: it starts with me. The plan is to watch this
- 40:13Speaker 6: and get with our offensive coaches. I see the I
- 40:20Speaker 6: see the effort. I see the, you know, the work
- 40:23Speaker 6: being put in, in the meetings on the practice field. And,
- 40:27Speaker 6: you know, to get that to translate to the field
- 40:32Speaker 6: is what's necessary. You know, I feel bad for our players,
- 40:39Speaker 6: our team, our coaches, our fans. And, He's a good wrestler.
- 40:45Speaker 5: Someone give my man a cup of coffee or a
- 40:47Speaker 5: nap or something. He looks beleaguered.
- 40:49Speaker 3: Yeah, or sort of confused about what's happening.
- 40:52Speaker 2: I mean, I think he is confused.
- 40:53Speaker 3: I don't think he ever saw this scenario playing out.
- 40:55Speaker 4: He's never been part of a losing team. I mean,
- 40:57Speaker 4: a real bad losing team. Even the early days at Stanford,
- 41:01Speaker 4: he was going uphill. But he seems like a guy
- 41:04Speaker 4: who has no answers, and he's Mr.
- 41:06Speaker 2: Positive.
- 41:07Speaker 4: He looks like he's struggling for a positive spin on this.
- 41:09Speaker 3: Right. Remember before the season how me and many other
- 41:12Speaker 3: people said, oh, my God, they got Mike McDaniel as
- 41:15Speaker 3: the best offensive coordinator hire. The other teams wanted him,
- 41:18Speaker 3: but the Chargers got him. Turns out it was a
- 41:20Speaker 3: bad idea.
- 41:20Speaker 5: So let's see how this plays out.
- 41:22Speaker 4: Jim Harbaugh probably not fireable at this point in the thing,
- 41:25Speaker 4: but Mike McDaniel is. You could easily get rid of
- 41:28Speaker 4: an OC. Every head coach gets one OC or DC firing.
- 41:32Speaker 4: So do you expect him to get fired during or
- 41:34Speaker 4: after the season, Mike McDaniel?
- 41:35Speaker 3: You know, I... I think it'll be during the season
- 41:39Speaker 3: because I don't see them turning this around anytime soon.
- 41:41Speaker 3: I think there's going to be some more brutal losses ahead. Also,
- 41:45Speaker 3: poor Justin Herbert. Does anybody get hit more than this dude?
- 41:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:49Speaker 3: He randomly took a knee to the head that would
- 41:52Speaker 3: have knocked out most people. He's just getting destroyed.
- 41:55Speaker 4: Him and Arch Manning have similar things. They got all
- 41:57Speaker 4: the spite on them. And they're not getting a lot
- 41:59Speaker 4: of support. People week to week don't really care why
- 42:01Speaker 4: they're not doing it.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, he's not playing well either. But he's taking
- 42:04Speaker 3: brutal shots every week because they're so desperate. But I wonder,
- 42:09Speaker 3: do you think Jim Harbaugh would step down after this year?
- 42:11Speaker 3: Say they were 2-15. Not 2. Maybe. I don't think
- 42:14Speaker 3: it would be that bad.
- 42:15Speaker 4: No, I thought about that as well because he doesn't–
- 42:18Speaker 4: I won't use the word quit, but maybe he says
- 42:20Speaker 4: this is not right for the franchise.
- 42:21Speaker 5: I'm going to do what's best for the franchise. But
- 42:23Speaker 5: he doesn't seem like a give-up guy.
- 42:24Speaker 3: By the way, he's got a show cause, can't go
- 42:26Speaker 3: back to college. You pointed that out.
- 42:27Speaker 4: He can't go to college until like 12 more years
- 42:29Speaker 4: or something like that. Coming up next, it's time for
- 42:31Speaker 4: your feedback from the weekend, constructive criticism, and to get
- 42:34Speaker 4: you ready for Monday Night Football.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Stick around.
- 42:37Speaker 5: Not so fast. Pabst and Perloff.
- 42:40Speaker 3: He'd be good in the booth, though. I would love
- 42:42Speaker 3: me some Jim Harbaugh on TV.
- 42:44Speaker 4: I like him on a college football show. I'd prefer
- 42:47Speaker 4: him on a college football show. Drinking milk, yelling at
- 42:49Speaker 4: the co-eds.
- 42:52Speaker 2: The Colts' first call will be, has been, to Peyton Manning.
- 42:57Speaker 2: The call will not only get names and suggestions, but
- 43:01Speaker 2: the call will explore whether or not Peyton would be
- 43:05Speaker 2: interested in being a general manager for the Colts as
- 43:08Speaker 2: the entry point that would include ownership interest in the Colts.
- 43:15Speaker 2: This would be the first major hire by Jim Ursae sisters,
- 43:21Speaker 2: the next generation. So now you have an opportunity to
- 43:24Speaker 2: put Peyton back in Indy as a GM and part owner,
- 43:30Speaker 2: and he gets to pick his quarterback. So now, all
- 43:34Speaker 2: of a sudden, the community is going to love this.
- 43:36Speaker 2: The league would love this. Would Peyton love this? So
- 43:40Speaker 2: that's the information I just got.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Actually, really into this. I thought that was a great idea.
- 43:52Speaker 3: It reminds me of John Elway taking over the Broncos.
- 43:55Speaker 3: Peyton Manning, of course, is associated so strongly with the Colts,
- 43:59Speaker 3: and he's obviously a brilliant football mind. I don't see
- 44:02Speaker 3: the downside. I think this makes so much sense.
- 44:03Speaker 5: Yeah, that was quite saucy.
- 44:05Speaker 4: When the news broke about Chris Ballard, Dan went right
- 44:07Speaker 4: back to his phone during the break, and I saw
- 44:08Speaker 4: him texting his source. And when he brought that up,
- 44:10Speaker 4: that's a real source. I look at Manning as a
- 44:13Speaker 4: competitive person. He's got this huge production company. He's got
- 44:16Speaker 4: a lot going on. The Manning cast has been going,
- 44:20Speaker 4: cooling off a little bit. I want to be fair
- 44:22Speaker 4: to it. But I could see him saying, okay, let's
- 44:24Speaker 4: pivot at this juncture in my career. The big part
- 44:27Speaker 4: for me is, can Peyton Manning be a competitor part-time
- 44:30Speaker 4: and still be able to watch his kids' football games?
- 44:33Speaker 4: I think that would be the biggest dilemma for him
- 44:35Speaker 4: in some role with the Colts.
- 44:36Speaker 3: We were arguing about this off-camera. There's tons of people
- 44:39Speaker 3: who have big jobs in the NFL who have kids
- 44:41Speaker 3: playing football, and they all make it work. Now, if
- 44:44Speaker 3: he's the president and GM and his son is playing
- 44:46Speaker 3: on Friday night, if he's a GM, where else is
- 44:50Speaker 3: he going to be? Just go fly and watch your
- 44:52Speaker 3: kid play.
- 44:52Speaker 4: I think he could work it out. I don't think
- 44:53Speaker 4: Peyton's flying commercial anymore. I think he would work it out.
- 44:56Speaker 4: But I could see his competitive Jones now starting to itch.
- 44:59Speaker 4: He's been away from the game for a while. He's
- 45:01Speaker 4: got Omaha Productions flying.
- 45:03Speaker 5: He could do it now.
- 45:04Speaker 3: Yeah, well, the funny thing is, I said, why fire
- 45:06Speaker 3: your GM in week six? They're not doing anything in
- 45:08Speaker 3: week six. Their job is in March when they're evaluating prospects.
- 45:12Speaker 5: Well, you want to paint the office, get it ready
- 45:13Speaker 5: for the next game.
- 45:13Speaker 3: Yeah, so Peyton doesn't have to watch his kid when
- 45:16Speaker 3: the most important thing for the Colts, and Dan said it,
- 45:18Speaker 3: was they really have to make a decision at quarterback.
- 45:20Speaker 3: I did not really get the Daniel Jones re-sign thing,
- 45:23Speaker 3: but they can get out of that. I think this
- 45:25Speaker 3: makes all the sense in the world. If I could
- 45:26Speaker 3: bet on this, I would bet on Peyton being signed. Okay,
- 45:30Speaker 3: Monday Night Football, Paul. Ooh, this is interesting. Okay, so
- 45:33Speaker 3: it's the Niners hosting the Commanders. Now, everyone remembers Jaden
- 45:38Speaker 3: Daniel holding onto the ball at the end of the
- 45:40Speaker 3: Giants game. But what people don't remember is that Jaden
- 45:43Speaker 3: Daniels actually came back from injury and played pretty darn
- 45:46Speaker 3: well and ran for over 100 yards. So the spread
- 45:48Speaker 3: is only 7.5. Only? Yeah, I mean, yes.
- 45:52Speaker 5: Oh, no, we're showing it again.
- 45:54Speaker 3: Yeah, no, this is bad. But it just struck me
- 45:57Speaker 3: all week. It's been at 7.5 and has not moved.
- 46:00Speaker 3: The Niners are arguably the best team in the NFL
- 46:02Speaker 3: at 5-0. They're hosting a team that really doesn't beat anybody.
- 46:06Speaker 3: You would think it'd be bigger to me. I think this...
- 46:09Speaker 3: Points to the Commanders being sneaky competitive.
- 46:11Speaker 4: This is an opportunity game for Jaden Daniels to remind
- 46:14Speaker 4: everybody what type of quarterback he has. Monday Night Football
- 46:17Speaker 4: against a good defense, a team that should beat them.
- 46:19Speaker 3: Should kill them.
- 46:20Speaker 5: Should kill them.
- 46:21Speaker 4: This is on a plate for Jaden Daniels to have
- 46:23Speaker 4: a very good game, get a win, and completely reset
- 46:26Speaker 4: his career, not only their season.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Well, maybe.
- 46:29Speaker 3: I feel like even if he plays well, I think
- 46:31Speaker 3: the defense is going to have trouble containing the Commanders.
- 46:33Speaker 4: Again, you win by one point and you play well.
- 46:35Speaker 4: Everyone will be like, oh, Jaden Daniels, yeah, I remember him.
- 46:37Speaker 4: And you'll... Push that thing from last week. I know
- 46:39Speaker 4: what you're going to say.
- 46:40Speaker 3: Oh, I say, but what if they lose by three
- 46:41Speaker 3: and he plays well?
- 46:43Speaker 4: It helps because they have a tough schedule coming up. But, like,
- 46:46Speaker 4: he needs a statement game on national TV.
- 46:48Speaker 5: Like, nobody's business.
- 46:49Speaker 3: See, I think he could have that statement game and
- 46:51Speaker 3: they could still lose because if Brock Purdy's playing like
- 46:53Speaker 3: an MVP, they have all those weapons. And I think
- 46:55Speaker 3: the Commanders have some real— even if Jake Daniels is good,
- 46:57Speaker 3: they have some real problems. They're a bad franchise and
- 47:00Speaker 3: a bad team. Meanwhile, the Niners— are a juggernaut right now.
- 47:04Speaker 3: I'm surprised. You think the spread would have been higher?
- 47:06Speaker 3: I mean, or the same? I thought the Niners would
- 47:09Speaker 3: be favored by 14 like the Rams were with Cardinals.
- 47:11Speaker 5: I thought it would have been 9.5. I thought 9.5
- 47:13Speaker 5: or more. I think it's going to be fun.
- 47:14Speaker 4: Let's get to a little constructive criticism, your feedback from
- 47:17Speaker 4: the weekend. Hit us every day on Twitter. Send your questions.
- 47:20Speaker 5: We'll pop them on the show. NotSoFast at NotSoFastDP on Twitter.
- 47:23Speaker 5: First one, Pearl.
- 47:25Speaker 4: This has been an incredible day of college football, watching
- 47:28Speaker 4: nine screens for 12 hours. That's my boy, by the way,
- 47:31Speaker 4: Montreal Max. He's my connection out in the desert.
- 47:33Speaker 3: Oh, I know Montreal Max.
- 47:34Speaker 4: You know Montreal Max on Twitter. He's a great follower.
- 47:36Speaker 3: Oh, that's a little different. He's got financial investments.
- 47:38Speaker 5: He sure does. And he's a 9TV guy. I'm so jealous.
- 47:42Speaker 5: I'm rarely jealous of anybody. All right, one more. Here
- 47:44Speaker 5: we go.
- 47:45Speaker 4: Top says, there's going to be a new football pack
- 47:48Speaker 4: with a PSA Walter Payton rookie card in a pack.
- 47:53Speaker 4: That means you find a Walter Payton rookie card?
- 47:55Speaker 3: Yeah, PSA 10 means it's in perfect condition. PSA 10
- 47:59Speaker 3: is worth a lot.
- 48:00Speaker 5: I do have one of my own here.
- 48:01Speaker 4: I don't know if it's PSA 10, but I know
- 48:04Speaker 4: it's PSA 34, which means it's Walter Payton looking awesome
- 48:08Speaker 4: before the jerry curl.
- 48:09Speaker 3: Here, let me see this. I'll tell you the PSA
- 48:12Speaker 3: in real time.
- 48:13Speaker 1: Be nice.
- 48:14Speaker 3: Ooh, Paulie, this is... It's not looking good. You got
- 48:16Speaker 3: a little hand down there.
- 48:17Speaker 5: You're not saying anything negative about Walter Payton, are you?
- 48:19Speaker 3: No, I'm saying something negative about your card and your college, kids' college.
- 48:24Speaker 4: It's probably not worth that much. It's got a little tear,
- 48:26Speaker 4: a little bit there. That's because Walter was laying people out.
- 48:28Speaker 4: That's why it's all banged up.
- 48:29Speaker 3: So are you going to invest in this PSA 10?
- 48:31Speaker 3: Does Not So Fast have a budget for any of that?
- 48:34Speaker 3: Of course we do.
- 48:34Speaker 4: It's time for the feel-good here in Not So Fast,
- 48:36Speaker 4: something for the weekend that.
- 48:37Speaker 5: Made you and me feel great.
- 48:39Speaker 3: Here we go.
- 48:40Speaker 5: Look at this young fella. Brewer's fan, gets a card
- 48:43Speaker 5: from Pops, Jackson Turio. That's cool, Dad. Thanks. What's on
- 48:47Speaker 5: the card? What's with the card?
- 48:49Speaker 4: With this card comes two tickets to the World Series.
- 48:51Speaker 5: Love, Grandma and Aunt Kathy. Grandma and Aunt Kathy.
- 48:54Speaker 2: Wow.
- 48:55Speaker 5: Always great gift givers. Everyone knows that. Look at my
- 48:57Speaker 5: man tearing up.
- 48:58Speaker 2: Good tears, dude.
- 49:00Speaker 3: Wow. Too bad he can't stay up for that at
- 49:03Speaker 3: the night game.
- 49:04Speaker 5: Yeah, you get him a nap. You take him to Starbucks.
- 49:06Speaker 5: He won't know what he's drinking. Get him all pumped up.
- 49:09Speaker 5: Get him ready for the game.
- 49:10Speaker 3: I'll be on the weekend, too. No, this is amazing.
- 49:12Speaker 3: Could you imagine when you were a young kid going
- 49:14Speaker 3: to a World Series game?
- 49:15Speaker 4: No, I didn't get to go to Burger King when
- 49:18Speaker 4: I was a kid. It's good for you, young kid.
- 49:20Speaker 4: Good job by Aunt Kathy and Grandma.
- 49:22Speaker 3: Yeah, Kathy.
- 49:23Speaker 4: Coming up tomorrow on this show, Noah Eagle from NBC Sports,
- 49:26Speaker 4: the launch of the NBA season on NBC Sports, and
- 49:29Speaker 4: the Dan Patrick Show before us on Not So Fast
- 49:32Speaker 4: right after.
- 49:32Speaker 5: We'll get you ready. Enjoy the football and enjoy the
- 49:34Speaker 5: baseball tonight.
- 49:35Speaker 3: Take care.
