- 0:28Hey everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:30coop. Oh, look at him on the money
- 0:32with that one. So today we are talking about
- 0:35our addiction to chaos. And I know this is going to be a
- 0:39hard conversation for some people to listen to and admit
- 0:43that they have this problem, but some people are addicted to
- 0:47chaos. So what does that look like?
- 0:49What do I mean when I say that? Well, if you know, let's say you
- 0:54have a household and that household is chaotic.
- 0:56Every single morning you wake up and it's just hell getting your
- 1:01kids out the door and you just can't find your keys and the
- 1:06dogs are annoying you, the kids can't get their stuff together.
- 1:12You know, this is this, and this is a regular occurrence.
- 1:14Now, this is not a one off. This is a regular occurrence
- 1:16because we all have these one off chaotic days, right?
- 1:20But I'm talking about this being a regular occurrence for you.
- 1:25There is a great chance that this chaos has become part of a
- 1:31pattern, which is a pattern of addiction to having it happen.
- 1:35And we get something from it, because if we hang on to things,
- 1:38we get something from them. And that could be the story we
- 1:42get to tell about it, how terrible our mornings are.
- 1:44It could be the feeling that we get from it, of being able to go
- 1:49to our partners and complain that Oh my gosh, you're not
- 1:52doing enough and you don't understand how crazy it is.
- 1:55And I can't do this all by myself, blah blah blah.
- 1:58There is an addiction to that, and we need to stop the madness
- 2:04because the chaos is real and it is put out there all around us
- 2:08all the time. If you're taking in news, you
- 2:12know how chaotic it is. I mean, if if you've been a
- 2:15human being and been alive over the last three years, you
- 2:18understand the craziness that has been put upon us, Whether
- 2:23you know you believe it politically, you don't believe
- 2:26it politically. Whatever it is, the chaos that
- 2:29has been thrown our way through the pandemic, through just
- 2:33hearing about Monkey Pox, whatever it might be, everything
- 2:38has been so amped up, so high level and so chaotic that we
- 2:43have become desensitized to even recognizing it in ourselves.
- 2:49And if we jump back to the example I was using about your
- 2:52own house in the morning and the chaos that you experience, if
- 2:58that's happening for you on some level, you have to look and say,
- 3:01wait, I'm in control. It's my house, it's your house.
- 3:04It's your morning and I'm letting this happen now.
- 3:08I can assure you if there's one thing that I am rigid about,
- 3:13it's my non chaotic mornings because it sets the tone for the
- 3:17day. If you can get a handle on the
- 3:19mornings, you have a better chance of managing the chaos
- 3:23throughout your day. It's just a benchmark.
- 3:26If you go into it in the right mindset, you're going to be able
- 3:28to come through it with the right mindset.
- 3:31But you've got to start at the beginning.
- 3:33You got to start and look at your morning and say, OK, am I
- 3:38creating this chaos as a habit? Have I become addicted to it?
- 3:42Have I just been allowing it? Have I been ditching the the
- 3:46information giving to me because I don't want to deal with it?
- 3:49So what's so important is for you to look at the whole morning
- 3:54as a baseline and say where is it coming from?
- 3:58What's happening? Where are the where are the
- 4:01downfalls? Where are the things that that
- 4:03are my glitches? Where are the things that give
- 4:05me issues? And I don't care if it's small,
- 4:09tiny things like in my world, if we don't have the, you know,
- 4:14dishwasher turned on the night before, or at least set on so
- 4:18that it will wash overnight, then you wake up in the morning.
- 4:21You don't, you have dirty dishes.
- 4:23You don't have enough of what you need.
- 4:24You don't have enough silverware.
- 4:26You don't have somebody's favorite cup that causes chaos.
- 4:29That's something that can start the downhill slide immediately.
- 4:34So the prep work for a great morning does start the night
- 4:39before. So you have to look and see, OK,
- 4:43where, well, where are my hiccups?
- 4:44Because if you don't look at where the problems are from a
- 4:47very neutral standpoint, and what do I mean by that?
- 4:52If you're in the heat of the moment, it's very hard to
- 4:55discern what has to happen because you'll just start
- 4:57blaming other people. But if you sit down today when
- 5:00you are in a very non immediate emotional state about it, let's
- 5:06say you're outside your house and you're thinking about, OK,
- 5:08let me let me go through a normal morning now you're not in
- 5:11the chaos right now. So you can actually think about
- 5:13the chaos and come back with a pretty solid definitive line of
- 5:18how it works in your morning and you can lay it out and say
- 5:22without emotion being triggered. That's the way to look at it and
- 5:26then figure out where can I take these these hiccups and get rid
- 5:30of them. You know, I want, I want them
- 5:32gone. I don't want to have this chaos
- 5:34be part of my life anymore, but it has to start somewhere and
- 5:38that benchmark is you identifying it.
- 5:40So my suggestion would be that today when you were in a neutral
- 5:45place, when you are non emotional, start thinking about
- 5:49your chaos, start thinking about, and it might be that you
- 5:52know as you're going through this, you're like, it's not
- 5:53really my mornings, it's my evenings, It's when I come home
- 5:56or it might be when I get to the office.
- 5:57That's when all hell breaks loose.
- 5:59Sure, this is this can happen anywhere, but typically it all
- 6:04starts in the morning, waking up late, not having the clothes you
- 6:08wanted. Somebody can't find a shoe and
- 6:11it sets the tone of the entire day.
- 6:14Sometimes it sets the tone for the entire week, so I challenge
- 6:19you today to take that on, look at it, see if you can figure out
- 6:23those pieces and then set yourself up to win.
- 6:28I will talk to you tomorrow. Bye.
