- 2:04show this morning, Metro News Stay wide correspondent Brad Michael Hanny's going to be
- 2:07here. Interims continue plus with each day comes, it seems like a new
- 2:12information about the mascoon on a WVU. Brad and I are going to delve
- 2:15into that a little bit later on in the show. If you heard yesterday's
- 2:19show, and if you didn't, we'll shame on you. You can go
- 2:21back and listen to it on demand at WCHS network dot com or on our
- 2:24Facebook an X page of social media, so on and so forth. Former
- 2:29Delegate Doug scaff was on the show speculated in his future. Thank you pretty
- 2:32much spelled it out yesterday. What the future is going to be? Go
- 2:36back and listen for yourselves. We'll get into that a little bit later on.
- 2:38But I want to welcome in to the show right now a couple of
- 2:40my favorite people in the world, Nicole Christian and Susie Salisbury from the Charleston
- 2:45Area Alliance. Nicole, good morning, how are you? Good morning?
- 2:47David? At least you didn't say Chevy. I did so, Actually I
- 2:51did. I did say Chevy. That's what happens, you know. Here's
- 2:53a little behind the scenes information. Okay, we got new information to tell
- 2:57the people about the Thornhill Auto Group, and I printed it off when I
- 3:00have all these other papers here, and when I printed it off, I
- 3:05throw away the old copy as well as the new copy. And I just
- 3:07realized it about ten seconds before airtime. So I'm calling up my email on
- 3:12my phone with these you know, fifty three year almost fifty three year old
- 3:16eyes here who still can't see out of buy vocals after my third pair.
- 3:21And I'm trying to read it off my phone. So there you go.
- 3:24But thanks for embarrassing me. I can I got a wife to embarrass me.
- 3:28I don't you know they've thinking to make fun of me. I don't
- 3:30need you, but anyway, it's beside the point. And Susie, welcome
- 3:32back to the show. Good morning, Thank you for having great to have
- 3:36you folks with us. Big day, he's a big day for the Charles
- 3:38scenario night you got a big lunch and going on talk about them. It's
- 3:42actually it's one of my favorite days because it's an opportunity for us to stop
- 3:49and thank that so many people, organizations and projects that go on in this
- 3:54community that really make it such a great place to live, work and play.
- 3:58It's that we love our community of the Awards, and it is happening
- 4:01today four thirty pm at the Downtown branch of the library up in the third
- 4:05floor. It'll take about an hour and we will be awarding ten different folks
- 4:13and groups for their outstanding work. For example, we will be providing an
- 4:18award for Community, Best Community Celebration, Best New Development, Best Redevelopment.
- 4:26We actually have two redevelopment projects this year. We're also honoring you may recall
- 4:31Jim Thomas, and we started an award probably twenty five years ago to honor
- 4:38his volunteer work in this community. So it's called the James R. Thomas
- 4:42Outstanding Volunteer Awards. We're going to be honoring somebody with that award. We
- 4:46also have ad the Charleston Awards, so we have ten different ones. But
- 4:50we do this celebration a little bit different. So it's not your typical put
- 4:56up a power point and I said it was lunch and it's actually it's actually
- 5:00not yet dinner time. A little reception, your reception, okay, yeah,
- 5:05but it's not your typical awards program. Like I said, it will
- 5:09be about an hour, but we do it through a form of the arts
- 5:12and each year we invite back some previous award winners to help us in presenting
- 5:19the awards the next year. So this year, last year we honored Arts
- 5:24to the Max individual, we honored Matthew Jackfort, the composer, and so
- 5:29he's coming back and he's gonna be our entertainment. So if you've always wanted
- 5:31to come and hear some of Matthew Jackford's original work, come today. It's
- 5:36free at four thirty. And how are these awards voted on? We have
- 5:41a committee, we have a subcommittee, and we have a Community devote committee,
- 5:44and we have a subcommittee of that that we really work year round,
- 5:47and we compile a list and we look to see what kind of projects are
- 5:51going on in the community. Most of these are projects that were completed by
- 5:56the end of twenty twenty two, so we already have a list ready for
- 6:00next year because there's so many projects going on. And again, there are
- 6:03so many things going on here in the Charleston area. So how long how
- 6:08many years of the sixteenth year sixteenth year have there been any And I would
- 6:13imagine there probably had maybe some repeat winners from time to time. I mean,
- 6:15Pete, where do you try to go for somebody different every year.
- 6:17How does that work? We go for somebody different every year? Yeah,
- 6:21and that's the beauty. I keep a big spreadsheet and every time when we
- 6:26get the subcommittee together and we sit down, you know, it's like,
- 6:30Okay, what's going on. Well, let's look back, and I've got
- 6:33that whole spreadsheet there shows exactly who was one what who was our entertainment,
- 6:39where we held the venue and all of that. So we moved the venue
- 6:42around. The library was one of our Redevelopment Award winning projects last year.
- 6:47So we're hosting it in the library this year. And I will say that
- 6:50if you haven't had an opportunity to see the library, it's been open for
- 6:55some time now, but it's absolutely a show place. I mean, it's
- 6:59really really is. It's one of the It's one of those hidden gems,
- 7:02I guess because people think, oh, it's a library, but there's there's
- 7:06there's a whole lot more going on there than that than just books and materials.
- 7:12It's it's a great community space. I mean, you know, Dave,
- 7:15we're in rotary meets there. It's it's, uh, what they've done
- 7:18with that facility. It's so welcoming and engaging. It's it's fantastic and and
- 7:24it just goes back to when you think about the premise for these awards,
- 7:28it's about recognizing all that's happening in this incredible community. And it takes more
- 7:33than just one person or one group. So this is our opportunity to to
- 7:40help showcase what's going on, but to really think all those that are supporting
- 7:46this, you know, the future and development and the growth in our community.
- 7:54I mean, it's it's amazing. We do have a lot to celebrate
- 7:58here. I get on the show Money through Friday, and we complained about
- 8:00things, you know, from time to time, that's the nature of it.
- 8:03But we do have a lot to celebrate here in the Canal Valley well.
- 8:05And you know, these programs are not possible without the sport of our
- 8:09sponsors, Like you have sponsors here for the show, Dave, I mean,
- 8:15we we are so thankful for the sponsors of these programs. Uh Spellman
- 8:20Thomas in Battle is our title sponsor, and then we have three other sponsors.
- 8:26We have our reception sponsor, which is ZMM Architects. We have Susie
- 8:31help me out here, Family care House Centers, is our music sponsor,
- 8:35and then the Federal Homelone Bank of Pittsburgh is our artist sponsors. Well,
- 8:39we actually commission an artist each year to create the awards, so the awards
- 8:43are never the same. We use a different artist every year. They're fantastic,
- 8:46they're beautiful, and it's so exciting and funna see. I think half
- 8:50of the excitement is the unveiling of the awards and then we usually try to
- 8:54put them in a poster too, so it's it's a lot of fun.
- 9:00It's it's really feel good. And listen, we get enough bad news and
- 9:05stuff that we have to deal with on a regular basis. It's a celebration.
- 9:09This is you know, let's celebrate the positive that's happening and what else
- 9:16we have going on with the alliance. Well, I did want to mention
- 9:18Dave, thanks for the opportunity, but we are open right now to accepting
- 9:26new tenants in our small business incubator. Incubator has been around since the eighties
- 9:31and it's a great space. It's a low cost space for entrepreneurs who are
- 9:39just getting started or who have not been in a commercial space before. It's
- 9:43our office building over at eleven sixteen Smith Street. We have three floors of
- 9:50incubator space and depending on the size of what the entrepreneur needs. But it's
- 9:56really fun. We just were reading about one of our former tenants who graduated
- 10:03out of the incubator, Watkins Design Works, will be celebrating their tenth anniversary
- 10:09in December. So the incubator is it is designed to help get those businesses
- 10:16and and even nonprofits up and running to be successful. So three oh four
- 10:24three four four two five three Drew Dunlap, he can take anyone on a
- 10:30tour and we're happy to help be you know, continuing to provide this needed
- 10:35space. Indeed, indeed, and uh so what else? I mean?

- 15:13good morning. How are you, sir? Hey, good morning. Dave's
- 15:16doing pretty good. I'm want to go and get this out of the way
- 15:18now, fake news, fake news, fake news, all right, I
- 15:22just I want to get that out of my system. So you have called
- 15:26me fake news, and I returned the same to you. Yea, yep,
- 15:31I cast stones at your restaurant and I declare it terrible. Yet I'm
- 15:37gonna come in and sit down and demand some biscuits. That's a very good
- 15:43analogy. Leave it to media folks to come up with analogies about food.
- 15:46So you know, I said, that's kind of an insight. I'm I'm
- 15:50gonna address something about that a little bit later on. But we got bigger
- 15:52issues than biscuits, although I don't know if there are any bigger issues than
- 15:56biscuits, Brad, And that is that's at the top of the show.
- 16:00It seems like every day there's another piece of news out of Morgantown and it
- 16:04doesn't revolve necessarily around Neil Brown or Bob Huggins. So what happened yesterday that
- 16:11you were covering brand, Well, where do I even begin? That's true?
- 16:18True, So I mean, I hope everybody's familiar with the context.
- 16:22WVU is right in the middle of a bunch of paintball cuts programs Tapley staff,
- 16:30and those are going to be finalized later this week by West Virginia University's
- 16:36Board of governors. There has been a backlash that included a vote of no
- 16:40confidence against the current president, Gordon Gee, And so yesterday, what we
- 16:45thought was going to happen was that Gee himself and the Vice President for Strategic
- 16:51Initiatives, Rob Alsop, would address legislators. So, you know, timing
- 16:56is the key to everything, and this was going to be big moment.
- 17:00Alsop did speak and had a lot to say, and his tone was pretty
- 17:06interesting, vigorous tone. He was not there and what he apparently told faculty
- 17:11Senate on a zoom call yesterday, so the faculty WVU is that he's got
- 17:15some hip problems maybe having or is preparing for some hip surgery, so he
- 17:22did not make the trip to Charleston. Interesting timing, but he wasn't there.
- 17:26So nevertheless rob Alsop, who's his number two. Alsop is riker to
- 17:34gis Picard. So he goes in and tells the legislature, members of the
- 17:41Finance the Joint Finance Committee that w VU is experiencing pain, but is going
- 17:48through these cuts in a thoughtful and procedural manner. There of course, has
- 17:57been sort of a push on why doesn't the legislature provide more money to Cushing
- 18:03Wview so it can buy time or so it doesn't have to go through all
- 18:07this right now? What Altop said was we would happily accept state money.
- 18:15Who wouldn't, right, But if it's to be one time money, he
- 18:19doesn't think that that wouldn't necessarily solve w View structural problems, which are related
- 18:26at least in part to fewer and fewer students each year. Theew very well
- 18:32could be right back in the same situation next year. So his point was
- 18:37the university has to act now to address those structural imbalances in the budget and
- 18:44try to come out of it in a in better shape heading into the next
- 18:48budget here and Bratt, I know you've been keeping a close eye on this,
- 18:52and you've talked about and of course Hoppy has been covered it at length.
- 18:55I was able to listen to the majority at least the first hour of
- 18:56Hoppies Show yesterday, and Dave Wilson covered in Hoppies absence, and all eyes
- 19:00in the state have been have been on this thing. There's just so many
- 19:06different angles of this story. And like I said, it's kind of making
- 19:10light of a little bit. But every day, every hour, there is
- 19:12something new that comes out with all of these problems at w VU, and
- 19:18and there's you know, I had Senator Tarr and last week. I know
- 19:19he was a part because interims are going on to get to that with you
- 19:22here in a couple of moments. But it seems like there's so many different
- 19:26factors that have a voice in this. You know, you talked about President
- 19:30ge but you also talked about mister Olsop, and then then there's the faculty,
- 19:34and then there's the Board of Governors, and then there's the you know,
- 19:37the students themselves and they had a protest last week. I mean,
- 19:41there's just so many different nuances to the story brand, and one of them
- 19:45is what is President Ye's status. He's beyond obviously the typical retirement age.
- 19:52Recently signed a one year extension into twenty twenty five for his contract. But
- 19:59he's on the seat. A lot of blowback from faculty and students. Clearly
- 20:04there was a vote of no confidence last week. Often, but not always,
- 20:10following that kind of vote of no confidence, the president of an institution
- 20:15will find that it's untenable to remain. So. Larry Road, delegate from
- 20:21Kinnau County, a Democrat who had been in years past the leader of West
- 20:26Virginia State's governing board, said, look, in my experience, when there's
- 20:32a vote of no confidence, eventually the president leaves. Should we begin now
- 20:37to have a national search for the leader of the flagship institution? And also
- 20:44pushed back on that, he said, the assertion is that there's going to
- 20:47be some sort of change, and I want to address that. He said
- 20:49that Gordon Ye is the guy until further notice. He said that Ye and
- 20:56the administration are fulfilling the will of the Board of Governors, which asked for
- 21:03this transformation, essentially to examine and carry out the cutbacks and I'll stop continued
- 21:11by saying, our president has the full support, I believe, or significant
- 21:14support from the Board of Governors. They asked for this, meaning the transformation,
- 21:18and they'll consider it on Friday. He Alsop did say that as WFEW
- 21:26comes nearer to the end of Gordon Guy's contract, he does expect that sort
- 21:30of national search, but the time is not now well and again as I
- 21:34talked to him, I met Sina tar Was on the show was this last
- 21:37week, and as I said, he made comments Chester Days, as have
- 21:41others, that there's a lot of attention on this story. And it's not
- 21:45just BRAD as you well know, in West Virginia. This is getting headlines
- 21:51Forbes, Pittsburgh Post, Washington papers I think have all done stories National,
- 21:55CNN, Fox and maybe have all done stories possibly on this cause it's not
- 22:00just that they're looking on it like, oh, look at these people in
- 22:03West Virginia. What they're looking at is that many of their institutions BRAD in
- 22:07their respective states are looking at many of the same issues that we had at
- 22:12WVU. Yeah, WU is Canary in the coal mine, so to speak,
- 22:18you know, talking about that coverage. One of the hopes at WVU
- 22:23is to bring in more students, and so that is one of the ways
- 22:30West Virginia University is assessing its programs. Which ones are the ones that students
- 22:36are enrolling in, that they that they envision as their majors, that they
- 22:38see career paths in the university is moving forward with a roughly three percent tuition
- 22:48increase, so trying to strike that balance. But students represent dollars. Unfortunately,
- 22:55sorry students, but you do. It is it's a business. I
- 22:57mean, it really is. And I think that maybe sometimes we get ahead
- 23:02of ourselves. We don't think about that it is a business. It is
- 23:07in many ways. It's a it's it's it's tough to strike that balance.
- 23:10It's it's a business. It's right now. The basic problem is the university
- 23:15has more expenses than it has money coming in. And one way to address
- 23:18that would be to recruit and retain additional students. That that cascade of bad
- 23:29publicity in the Pittsburgh Paper, in the New York Times, in the Washington
- 23:33Post, and the Chronicle of Higher Education probably doesn't help a view with recruiting
- 23:38in those areas. If parents are reading those stories, not great, but
- 23:44uh, you know, eventually, the w View does hope to be on
- 23:48firm or footing. This shall pass in terms of the being on the hot
- 23:55seat of bad publicity and w VIEW at some point hopes to get its feed
- 24:00under it to settle rally and encourage more students to attend well. And this
- 24:06is not a situation with like you know, those folks in Philippe at with
- 24:10Alders and abroad us. I mean, they're not going out of business anytime
- 24:12soon or anything like that. This is the Staint's Land Grand Institution. I've
- 24:15been here forever there that the institution is not having a fire sale at this
- 24:19point. But but but to your point, as West Virginia's we continue to
- 24:22move and try to get more people to come into West Virginia, Brad and
- 24:29a lot of these economic development announcements that we have each day about trying to
- 24:32bring more people into West Virginia, even those that maybe don't have kids that
- 24:37are going to be going to college or or they don't. I mean,
- 24:40it's got to be that's one of the one of the selling points of any
- 24:42state is going to be higher education, not only WVU, but Marshall and
- 24:47State and and and and all the others as well, and you've got to
- 24:52try to sell that and people associate I mean, I'm a Marshall guy,
- 24:56but people associate West Virginia University with Bean the state university. That's just the
- 25:00way it is. And when you are trying to go out to we had
- 25:06that big delegation just went up to Seattle not long ago to talk to people
- 25:08in California and even across the world. When you see those headlines, it
- 25:12doesn't it doesn't mode well for selling the state, right. Yeah. You
- 25:17know, if you are the flagship the land grant institution, you've you've almost
- 25:22got to be all things to all people. So you've got to provide those
- 25:26degree programs that are up and coming the jobs of the future, but also
- 25:32lean somewhat towards you know, the classics. Whether the philosophy program pays off
- 25:38or not, whether the literature program pays off or not, there's something to
- 25:45be said for for churning out students who are well versed in those those formative
- 25:52aspects of culture and education. And so the World Languages program is the one
- 25:57that really gets the attention. And you did make the decision to spare some
- 26:03of those from the shopping block Spanish, for example, but many of them.
- 26:07The university apparently intends to provide online in potentially in collaboration. You might
- 26:14be a student at WU taking your Russian course or whatever presented at another campus
- 26:22somewhere else, also potentially talked about a cooperative agreement with other Big twelve schools.
- 26:29But you know that when we talk about it around my dinner table,
- 26:33we say, but what is the VIV you doing with the languages programs?
- 26:37Don't we need to turn out, in a global economy students who are familiar
- 26:41with and well versed in other languages. And so that's the kind of balance
- 26:47that I think it's hard to strike right now. All right, So where
- 26:49are we as far as the interims go, Brad, we'll kind of move
- 26:52on to close with that. Interims are are continuing? Is that right?
- 26:56Still going on? This morning? The Department of trans Rotation presented some practical
- 27:02aspects and I'm going to have to go back over this in my notes,
- 27:06but you know the condition of the highways clearly hits home with people, especially
- 27:14if it is their road. And so there was some discussion this morning about
- 27:18what is highways doing, what is the progress, particular attention to mowing and
- 27:25mowing equipment. I am probably not there's probably not a whole lot of sizzle
- 27:30regarding our conversation me and you, Dave. But I just think that's that's
- 27:33really practical and people can relate to it. You know, if you mow
- 27:37your lawn or if you notice the side of your highway and whether it is
- 27:42properly mowed or not. The Highways Department is paying close attention to that and
- 27:48wants to do better, has gotten an increased amount of equipment to deal with
- 27:55that mowing that should bear fruit in the spring. And then the thing that
- 28:00I was watching right before going on with you is DHR is in the middle
- 28:04of that split into three agencies that the little bureaucratic more bureaucratic than knowing is,
- 28:11that's for sure, But you know, the state legislators need to pay
- 28:15attention to that to make sure it is as smooth as can be. A
- 28:18lot of West Virginians participate in the programs that DHHR offers, and they certainly
- 28:26don't want to see everything get messed up as the chairs are rearranged, and
- 28:32so the Health Committee with the Senate and the House listening right now to what
- 28:38progress is being made on that split into three. It's it's a local person,
- 28:45by the way, who is in charge of much of that, Doctor
- 28:47Sherry Young, the interim director of DHHR, and is going to move into
- 28:53the leadership role of the singled out Department of Health when all this is said
- 28:59and done well. Brad will be following along on x the Artists formerly known
- 29:03as Twitter, and on the website mv metronews dot com as well. I
- 29:07appreciate you taking time out of your schedule and go and UH and and study
- 29:11more of the riveting UH committee there on. On mowing. Yeah, I'm
- 29:15gonna have some mowing follow ups here. Person. All right, thanks a
- 29:18lot, Right, we'll talk soon. Thanks a lot. Twenty three minutes

- 29:41Brad and now we're kind of you know. I mean, it's again not
- 29:42the most riveting thing to talk about what's going on with with with highways and
- 29:48mowing. But as somebody who travels this state a whole heck of a lot,
- 29:52I'll be doing that today as a matter of fact, a whole lot
- 29:55today. Uh. There's a lot of work going on. There's a lot
- 29:59of construct action, there's a lot of paving, there's a lot of mowing
- 30:02going on in wester Ndinia. We complained about the roads, but I can
- 30:04tell you there is a lot of it going on out there, so hopefully

- 35:09means. It's a university created to receive a grant of federal land for the
- 35:14purpose of providing education to the working class. To call WVU a business betrays
- 35:19its land grant status. The focus of land grant is educating everyone. Wvu's
- 35:24focuses on making money while also being unaffordable to so many. According to a
- 35:29texture, Yeah, I mean you hear that term thrown around a lot,
- 35:32and I had to do a little research on exactly what land grant institution means.
- 35:36But the texture is absolutely right about that. But at the end of
- 35:39the day, it is still a business. I mean, we don't like
- 35:45to say that education is a business, but it is. We don't like
- 35:50to say that healthcare is a business, but it is, because it's all
- 35:53about dollars and cents. And when WVU is operating as at a deficit like
- 36:00it is, and again all this blame can be thrown around, it is
- 36:07what it is. And I know I hate using that term, but it
- 36:09is what it is, and it's a business. And when you operate a
- 36:13business the way that West Virginia University has been operating over the last few years,
- 36:17and we did you know again, they just didn't get into this overnight.
- 36:21It's been that way for a while. Then you're gonna have problems.
- 36:23You can't you can't operate your business this way, can't operate you know,
- 36:27your automotive repair shop, you can't operate your family's budget that way because you
- 36:32can't run into problems. And then that's what they're doing. They're running into
- 36:37problems right now, big doings and this is a kind of a story.
- 36:39It's unfolding right now in the drug world this morning here in Charleston. Reports
- 36:44are that nearly twenty warrants were executed this morning by the Charleston Police and the
- 36:47Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Now. It happened at
- 36:52around six this morning at the Vista View Apartments thirteen hundred Renaissance Circle Drive here
- 36:58in Charleston. Charles Police set to issue a statement that they haven't already we
- 37:02will have. I've overheard a conversation Jeff and and the team. We're working
- 37:06on the story right now. So if there's not something on the website now
- 37:09or on social media, there will be soon. We expect to have a
- 37:12statement. If it's not already, may have already been, uh, may
- 37:15have, But so just follow the follow the news on that and we'll keep
- 37:22you updated as well as as on the website and on the social media.
- 37:29The WC television reporting that math, fentnel and other numerous drugs as well as
- 37:34firearms were seized. So score one for the good good guys, Great job
- 37:37off, Anthony. I was having a problem hearing you there. Did you
- 37:39we have a call? Okay? We got a call. Let's go to
- 37:43don You're on five AD Live. Go ahead, Hey, how are you
- 37:45today? I'm doing fine, sir? How are you? Oh? Pretty
- 37:49good list. I'd like to comment about the Gordon situation. Yes, sir,
- 37:52I am sorry if you you be more in to now, if you
- 37:57don't think this is all at the Sea accord. Look what Kenny Bass uncovered
- 38:01about him? What in twenty sixteen or so, his how he spent money.
- 38:07He's been right off. I'm not gonna say I don't know that he's
- 38:10been fired from any universe, but he's been shown the back door under shady
- 38:16circumstances Ohio State, I think Vanderbilt, or there was a couple of other
- 38:22ones where he just spent more money than he was worked. In my opinion,
- 38:28he did. I mean when my son went up there in twenty fourteen
- 38:31to twenty seventeen, every every time tuition come due in two or three months,
- 38:38you would get another one where that we made a mistake. He owe
- 38:42us another thousand dollars, another five hundred dollars, and it just seemed like
- 38:45they were he has Anybody could have seen this coming, and I'm sure people
- 38:53did see it coming. And everybody's just in denial because they let it happen.
- 38:59Well, I'm on the as skid. Let let me jump and ask
- 39:00you a question. You said your son was there and just a couple of
- 39:02years ago. Is that right? Yes? Yeah, okay, So what
- 39:06is Okay, it's somewhat well, congratulations to your son. So what is
- 39:10what? What's his take on this? And I say that because he's somebody
- 39:14that was actually on campus, whereas the rest of us are not. We're
- 39:16here in the Charleston area, but he's actually on campus. What's his take
- 39:20on the whole thing? I had not talked to him about it. Uh,
- 39:22he lives he lives in Mobile, Alabama, So I haven't gotten a
- 39:28chance to talk to him. King on him. I mean, this isn't
- 39:30something on my upfront part, right, I get it. I get it.
- 39:34Well, yeah, but what I hear you all talk about, especially
- 39:37Hoppy Hoppy. I don't know Hoppy. Him and I have talked about it
- 39:42over the years. And I remember in twenty fourteen when my son was uh
- 39:46first went up there. Uh, and I think that's when President he came
- 39:52is twenty fourteen. I don't know the exact year. But what we'll go
- 39:58with that. Yeah, he lowered a tuition for out of state students,
- 40:04I believe, and he kind of raised him a very small amount for his
- 40:07state. I remember that kind of chapped me a little bit too. And
- 40:12all you have to do, I'll tell you something else, doctor Drake.
- 40:16He's the one that replaced him at Ohio State University. If you can read
- 40:20between the lines on an interview he did where he said, finally we're starting
- 40:23to get our budget back under control and starting to break them. And then
- 40:32let's not verbatim, but if you read that, that is on the hills
- 40:36of Nordon Gee, okay or grifter Gee is out all right? All right,
- 40:42don he makes some good points. I appreciate your phone call. Thanks
- 40:45a lot. Yeah, twelve minutes away from ten five eighty lie brought to
- 40:46you a part by General General Hardware and Lumber and Winfield. Come see their
- 40:51new contractor's showroom, lumber yard and more. They deliver service and quality right
- 40:54to your door. Don't buy to get a quote from General Hardware and Lumber
- 40:59of Winfield, Tex says Dave. I noticed the governor and all the flags
- 41:01that have massed on nine to eleven, but invited the masterminds to play golf
- 41:06at this hotel resort. Something is wrong here. According to a texture,
- 41:12Texture says, Lincoln would be a rhino in today's radical Republican Party, extremism
- 41:16is the currency of the modern goop. They excuse the attack on the Capitol,
- 41:22support partnering violent criminals who committed today's conspiracy, and openly suggests another civil
- 41:27war and political violence. You know, that's not true of all Republicans.
- 41:32Texture, that is not true of all Republicans. But I will say extremism
- 41:36is a problem. It is a big problem within the Republican Party. It's
- 41:39also a big problem within the Democratic Party. I'm not trying to play what
- 41:43a baodhism, but i'd actually, you know, I sat down this morning
- 41:45in my computer and sometimes I get an idea and I just roll with it,
- 41:49and I wrote out all this stuff. I don't know whether I'll get
- 41:51to it, but I'll save it for a future show. Because I heard
- 41:53something yesterday that my good friend Danny Jones was on with the Hoppy yesterday and
- 42:01he was talking about where we are now and where we were as I kind
- 42:07of alluded to this a little bit yesterday too. In September eleventh, as
- 42:10we commemorated that day yesterday, September eleventh, the two thousand and one compared
- 42:15to where we are now. Danny's take was, and I agree that we're
- 42:19in a dark place in America right now. And I don't know that I
- 42:27have seen the attitude, attitudes, if you will, of America on both
- 42:32sides and just as a whole, be any worse than what they are now.
- 42:37And no, it's not because of Joe Biden. No, it's not
- 42:39because of Donald Trump. It they're factors, and the strong feelings towards both
- 42:45are factors. But it goes much deeper than that, and well before that,
- 42:52So I'll maybe get into that a little bit later. Ron, all
- 42:57right, h let me see, let me get to this. Five EVE

- 46:08do not know Texas. All Republicans aren't white nationalists, but white nationalists cozy
- 46:14with Republicans, and you never hear Republicans announcing the white nationalist. Take from
- 46:20that, what you will well, this Republican denounces white nationalists. I'm only
- 46:23one, but I'm just that guy. But I will Texas nice both sighting
- 46:29the extremism problem. Show me where the Democrats attacked the Capitol and the leaders
- 46:32of the Democratic Party support the attack. Unless you can, there is no
- 46:37comparison. Did you see the video yesterday when? Now this is not to
- 46:40try to equate this to what happened on January six Do you know my feelings
- 46:45in January sixth? But did you see the video yesterday where several folks and
- 46:51I think they were HIV activists did a sit in at Kevin McCarthy's office yesterday?
- 46:58Did you see again not comparing the two? There are two different things.
- 47:00But yeah, no, I'll hold true to that there is extremism on
- 47:05both sides. I mentioned yesterday my interview with a former delegate and an also
- 47:09state senator, and I say former delegate because he resigned on Friday, Doug
- 47:13Scaff. The same thing I said yesterday holds true today. Doug Scaff will
- 47:16run for something else, in my opinion, possibly secretary of state. He
- 47:21certainly sounded like a secretary of state candidate yesterday on the show and speaking of
- 47:25that office. Current Putnam County Clerk Bryan Would, who was one of the
- 47:29first to announce he would be running for the office of Secretary of State,
- 47:30will be on the show tomorrow. Delicate. Chris Pritt is in the race,
- 47:35as well as former Delegate Ken Reid. I would think that Brian Wood
- 47:38would have a lot of statewide support from from county clerks and people like that.
- 47:46But you also have to ask yourself this question, and that is what
- 47:52party will Doug scaff be. There continues to be speculation that mister scaff and
- 47:57he kind of was very coy with it yesterday, that he may be changing
- 48:04parties from from Democrat to Republican. One thing is for sure, he didn't
- 48:08ask for my political advice, but I'll give it to him that it would
- 48:12be very, very difficult for Doug Scaff or anyone else to get elected in
- 48:19West Virginia as a Democrat on a statewide level period. Like it or not,
- 48:23West Virginia is a super red state and getting reader by the day,
- 48:28and again starting this was starting before Donald Trump, and as mister scaff said
- 48:35yesterday on the show, a lot of it is based on the national identity
- 48:37of the Democratic Party and what it's become. Period. One of our own
- 48:45is getting into the political arena. Joe Parsons, who you don't hear on
- 48:50the air, but trust me, he's here serving as the general manager of
- 48:54the Charleston cluster of all the WVRC media radio stations here at eleven eleven,
- 48:58announcing yesterday he will be running for the House of Delegates on the Republican ticket.
- 49:02Now, this is the sixties delicate district made up primarily Jackson County Delicate.
- 49:07Steve Westfall is currently in that seats. He, mister Westfall, not
- 49:13running for his seat again, is said, choosing to run for Jackson County
- 49:19Commission. I want to give credit where credit is due to my fellow media
- 49:23scumbag Steven Allen Adams VOGDA Newspapers for an excellent op ed that he released yesterday.
- 49:30You can find it easily online or on Steven's social media, Wheeling Intelligence
- 49:35or newspaper other papers as well. He was talking about something that I have
- 49:39mentioned, that is the fact that there are many who when they don't like
- 49:46the results of something, be it a news story, being a pole in
- 49:50this particular case whatever. Even admittedly when mistakes were made in doing, said
- 49:54Paul, talking about the West Virginia Pole and Research America Rectory Pass and whatnot
- 49:59that you label it and the organization behind it his fake news. And again
- 50:05you know, rex Repass, Research America made a mistake, and the Polly
- 50:07Metro News was a part in publicizing that. That showed Attorney General Patrick Morrissey
- 50:15wasn't as far away in second place as was originally thought. The poll showed
- 50:21more capital about the race for governor Republican ticket. The pole showed more Capito
- 50:25in first in the poll for the Republican nomination for governor, followed by Attorney
- 50:30General Morrissey, Auto magnate Chris Miller, and then Secretary of State Make Warner.
- 50:35Originally reported that mister morrissey support level was at twenty three percent, when
- 50:39later it was discovered it's actually twenty seven percent. Capito was still in the
- 50:44lead, but perhaps the bigger winner overall was the always popular candidate undecided,
- 50:50because that's where most people, well obviously most that's where a lot of people
- 50:54are right now in the race on the Republican side for governor, many are
- 50:58undecided. Now. Morrissey called out the polling and Metro News, as did
- 51:02Secretary of State Mike Warner and you throwing out the term fake news. And
- 51:09by the way, I shared Steven Allandam's column on my social media pages in
- 51:14the case you'd like to read it for yourself. And thank you, by
- 51:16the way, to Stephen for referring to Metro News is being fair in the
- 51:22middle of the road. Appreciate that although I'm a very very very small part
- 51:27of the big picture of Metric an hour a day part. As a matter
- 51:30of fact, I appreciate that. You know, mistakes were made in the
- 51:32polling, apologies were issued and hopefully we can move on. Brad alluded to
- 51:37this though earlier. Is he and I did our segment earlier in the show.
- 51:40As I said, they never call us fake news when they reach out
- 51:45to us asking for airtime. It's funny. It's funny how that works,
- 51:51tech, says Dave. I am a Republican who denounces white nationalism. Well,
- 51:54I see there's two of us. Now, there's actually a lot more
- 51:57than that. All right, gotta go. Thanks to all my guests for
- 52:00being on the show today. My producer of the A Train, Anthony Harmon,
- 52:01thank you so much. As well, coming up on the show tomorrow,
- 52:04say Senator Amy Grady is going to be here, and as I said,
- 52:07Republican candidate for West Virginia Secretary of State current Putnam Kenny Clert Brian Wood
- 52:10will be on the show tomorrow as well. Follow the news of the day
- 52:14w Metronews dot com, WCHS Network dot com. Two Denny Harmon, thank
