- 0:04Becca Hammond: What's new 802?
- 0:04Becca Hammond: The Burlington talks podcast may include graphic or explicit content listener discretion is advised.
- 0:13Becca Hammond: Hi, this is Becca Hammond and this is the second interview on Burlington Talks and I'm here today with Jesse Taylor, the front person in the Jesse Taylor Band where she sings and also plays guitar.
- 0:23Becca Hammond: The band just recently won a contest and will be making an album with Plaid Dog Recording in Boston.
- 0:29Becca Hammond: Besides that, Jesse also plays out as a solo artist.
- 0:33Becca Hammond: Jesse, thank you very much for being on the show today.
- 0:35Becca Hammond: Welcome.
- 0:36Jesse Taylor: Thank you.
- 0:36Jesse Taylor: Thanks for having me.
- 0:38Becca Hammond: Would you like to just tell me a few things about yourself?
- 0:40Becca Hammond: Whatever you want to share?
- 0:41Jesse Taylor: Sure.
- 0:43Jesse Taylor: Um, yeah, so I've been in Burlington for seven years now.
- 0:46Jesse Taylor: I moved here from Maine.
- 0:48Jesse Taylor: I grew up in Gray, Maine, right outside of Portland.
- 0:52Jesse Taylor: Um, I have always been a singer, but I never really was into writing songs or playing music until my early twenties so that's been kind of a newer thing since I moved here.
- 1:04Becca Hammond: Cool.
- 1:04Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 1:05Becca Hammond: So how long have you been playing guitar in total?
- 1:11Jesse Taylor: Uh, five years.
- 1:13Jesse Taylor: Like intentionally, intentionally.
- 1:15Jesse Taylor: Like you know, my dad was always playing guitar, had guitars around the house, would like try to hand me one, you know, I'd would like maybe like pluck the strings but I never, yeah, I never like put the time in, you know.
- 1:29Becca Hammond: Cool.
- 1:29Jesse Taylor: Never wanted to practice or really I wasn't into it.
- 1:32Jesse Taylor: I wasn't ready I guess.
- 1:33Becca Hammond: So did you do formal lessons?
- 1:36Becca Hammond: Did you teach yourself?
- 1:37Jesse Taylor: Yeah, I guess you could say I'm self taught.
- 1:40Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 1:41Becca Hammond: Well you can basically learn anything online these days.
- 1:44Jesse Taylor: I know it's kind of true.
- 1:45Becca Hammond: I find that with ultimate guitar has always been my, I've gone there since I was 12 probably.
- 1:51Becca Hammond: I found that one.
- 1:52Becca Hammond: I was like...
- 1:53Becca Hammond: This is the place, this is where I could find every song I'll ever need to play.
- 1:58Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 1:59Jesse Taylor: I guess though vocally I did take voice lessons and I would say that that's like my main instrument.
- 2:04Jesse Taylor: And when I did start writing songs or realized that songwriting was a thing for me, it kind of felt like more of a vehicle to write the songs with like guitar playing.
- 2:13Jesse Taylor: I was like I guess gotta I got to learn to accompany myself if I'm going to play out.
- 2:17Becca Hammond: Yeah, that's a great, well it definitely gives you a more rounded show experience than if you were just going to play by yourself and then you don't have to rely on a band or someone else to be there with you.
- 2:27Becca Hammond: Yep.
- 2:28Becca Hammond: Yeah that makes a lot of sense.
- 2:29Becca Hammond: When did you take vocal lessons?
- 2:32Jesse Taylor: Probably like middle school.
- 2:34Jesse Taylor: High school, probably high school.
- 2:36Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 2:37Becca Hammond: And was it a longterm thing or did you just...
- 2:39Jesse Taylor: No, I think I just kind of like did a few and was like figuring out if I liked it.
- 2:44Jesse Taylor: Like I did drama.
- 2:45Jesse Taylor: I wasn't really normally into that but I like was thinking about the musicals cause I like to sing.
- 2:49Becca Hammond: Yeah r ight.
- 2:51Jesse Taylor: Yeah I always did chorus and chamber choir and whatever in high school so I just was like awesome.
- 2:57Jesse Taylor: Rolling with it.
- 2:58Jesse Taylor: My parents got me a few lessons Mr Tweedy.
- 3:01Jesse Taylor: I thought that was funny.
- 3:02Jesse Taylor: That was my vocal teachers name.
- 3:02Becca Hammond: Wow.
- 3:03Becca Hammond: That's a very apt name for someone who teaches people to sing.
- 3:08Becca Hammond: That's great.
- 3:10Becca Hammond: Cool.
- 3:11Becca Hammond: So that was all in Maine that you were taking those lessons.
- 3:14Becca Hammond: So you haven't done anything when you were in your 20s any formal lessons?
- 3:19Jesse Taylor: I took a couple when I moved here t o just to like refresh c ause I k ind o f took a few years off from like singing and.
- 3:26Becca Hammond: yeah, understandable.
- 3:27Jesse Taylor: You know, whatever.
- 3:28Jesse Taylor: When I was like, am I going to go to college?
- 3:29Jesse Taylor: Those years of weirdness.
- 3:31Jesse Taylor: Um, so then I did take a couple of lessons when I moved here.
- 3:34Jesse Taylor: I just found somebody through a friend and couple lessons to kind of get back into it.
- 3:38Becca Hammond: So where did you take the lessons from, if you don't mind my asking?
- 3:42Jesse Taylor: Samara Lark Brown.
- 3:43Jesse Taylor: I don't know if she is currently teaching, but she teaches and has, yeah.
- 3:48Jesse Taylor: Yeah, she studied voice in California.
- 3:50Jesse Taylor: Yeah, she's great.
- 3:51Becca Hammond: Cool.
- 3:51Becca Hammond: Yeah, that's[ to hear about.
- 3:53Becca Hammond: [inaudible] I've heard a few different places around town that people like going and I've just, I've never taken formal lessons since I've been in an adult.
- 4:02Becca Hammond: I always took them when I was in high school and yeah, super convenient back then.
- 4:06Becca Hammond: It's pretty fun.
- 4:07Becca Hammond: And then like you said on YouTube, so like before shows now I have this like eight minute vocal warmup that I really like.
- 4:13Becca Hammond: That's just like a YouTube video that's like, you know, mommy made me mash my M and a.
- 4:18Becca Hammond: That's great.
- 4:19Becca Hammond: Just finding a few that you like cause it really helps
- 4:22Jesse Taylor: to just get it all moving.
- 4:24Becca Hammond: Right.
- 4:24Becca Hammond: Just to practice, have you seen these new apps that teach you how to sing?
- 4:29Becca Hammond: Have you tested these out now?
- 4:33Becca Hammond: Thirst.
- 4:33Becca Hammond: I, I managed to download one just on a whim.
- 4:36Becca Hammond: It's like Smule or something.
- 4:39Becca Hammond: Now this one was called musician and I downloaded it because it said you could, it would give you base exercises or guitar exercises and vocal exercises all using the magic of your phone's microphone.
- 4:51Becca Hammond: And I was actually really surprised at how accurate it was.
- 4:54Becca Hammond: It would tell you if you're all on key or if you are on beat.
- 4:57Becca Hammond: It would, it could tell if I was just playing my acoustic bass, which I didn't plug in at all just to see if it could hear it.
- 5:04Becca Hammond: It actually did.
- 5:05Becca Hammond: It was really funny.
- 5:06Becca Hammond: I don't really take it extremely seriously cause having a real teacher would be way better.
- 5:11Becca Hammond: But it was a lot of fun cause it was kind of like guitar hero for your voice.
- 5:14Becca Hammond: That's cool.
- 5:15Becca Hammond: And it would score you.
- 5:17Becca Hammond: Yeah, it was entertaining.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Cool.
- 5:21Speaker 3: So let's talk about JTB.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Where did it all begin?
- 5:25Speaker 3: I guess full band began probably like two years ago, but I would say I started play[inaudible] out
- 5:36Jesse Taylor: like five years ago.
- 5:38Jesse Taylor: Five or six years ago now.
- 5:39Jesse Taylor: What year would that have been?
- 5:41Speaker 3: 2014 I think.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Yeah, 2014 into 2015 so
- 5:46Becca Hammond: a year, a year or so after you moved back or pretty re?
- 5:50Becca Hammond: Pretty soon after.
- 5:51Becca Hammond: A couple of years after I moved here.
- 5:52Becca Hammond: I am.
- 5:53Becca Hammond: Nice and yeah.
- 5:54Becca Hammond: Where was your first show at?
- 5:56Becca Hammond: I'm super curious.
- 5:59Jesse Taylor: Uh, I don't know cause I played a lot of, well my first hour long set was that drink bar, which I don't even think they have music anymore.
- 6:09Jesse Taylor: They used to, they used to um, some people at Manhattan open mic and like the list was full and at this point I didn't know anybody in town and like whatever, they just, I wasn't going to get to play the 15 minute time slot or whatever that you played open mic.
- 6:24Jesse Taylor: So this guy was like, you want to play tomorrow night at drink bar for an hour?
- 6:29Jesse Taylor: I was like, Oh my God, an app.
- 6:31Jesse Taylor: Do I even have an hour of song?
- 6:34Jesse Taylor: You can just stretch it.
- 6:35Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 6:36Jesse Taylor: So anyway, I did that and I was my first day, like hour long set and I was like, wow, I guess I can play for an hour.
- 6:42Jesse Taylor: That's cool.
- 6:43Jesse Taylor: And then from there I ended, I booked a show, I think radio bean might've been the first show I booked here.
- 6:48Jesse Taylor: That one's one.
- 6:49Jesse Taylor: I've heard a lot of bands.
- 6:50Jesse Taylor: That was their first place they played.
- 6:52Jesse Taylor: And then in Portland, Maine.
- 6:54Jesse Taylor: I was playing with somebody who had gone to high school with for a little while.
- 6:58Jesse Taylor: Um, and we played a show at flask lounge in Portland too.
- 7:01Jesse Taylor: So that was kinda fun.
- 7:02Jesse Taylor: Awesome.
- 7:02Jesse Taylor: But I have yet to play a show there.
- 7:04Jesse Taylor: I haven't played a show in Portland probably four or five years.
- 7:06Jesse Taylor: So while you get to get to have to bring the band there, I was going to say, got to get the guys to with you.
- 7:10Jesse Taylor: You guys get a little bit of gas money.
- 7:12Jesse Taylor: Yeah, I got that way after Boston.
- 7:15Jesse Taylor: So I guess, um, yeah, I was doing the solo thing.
- 7:19Jesse Taylor: I was playing piano.
- 7:21Jesse Taylor: It's kinda where it started.
- 7:22Jesse Taylor: Cool.
- 7:22Jesse Taylor: I didn't know you played piano.
- 7:24Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 7:24Jesse Taylor: Which also, you know, I took a few lessons when like fifth grade, my parents were like trying to coax me into playing music, which I'm grateful for.
- 7:31Jesse Taylor: I just wasn't into it at the time.
- 7:33Jesse Taylor: I dunno.
- 7:33Jesse Taylor: I like, you're like a kid and you're like in band and you don't want to practice your saxophone solo.
- 7:37Jesse Taylor: You know, very understandable when you're 10, 12, life is, you know, life is just full of interesting things and being forced into doing anything no matter how cool it is.
- 7:47Jesse Taylor: Maybe that's not cool enough for you when you're 12.
- 7:50Jesse Taylor: I was definitely in my room listening to lots of music though.
- 7:53Jesse Taylor: So definitely music has always been in my life for sure.
- 7:58Jesse Taylor: Um, so then I kind of add a couple open mics.
- 8:00Jesse Taylor: There was like sometimes there was a house tremor who would like play along and I was like, damn, this is really cool if the songs could like have way more life.
- 8:09Jesse Taylor: Um, yeah, it's a lot of fun playing with people.
- 8:12Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 8:13Jesse Taylor: Um, so I was playing with this guy who I went to high school with for awhile, Dave.
- 8:17Jesse Taylor: And we did this like Jesse and Dave kind of like piano and he played guitar, um, for awhile.
- 8:24Jesse Taylor: Um, and we played some of my songs and some of his songs and then that ended up not really working out, just like we both were kind of trying to do our own thing and it wasn't.
- 8:34Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 8:34Jesse Taylor: Understandable.
- 8:37Jesse Taylor: Um, so then from there I was like, well, I guess I want to, I want to do my own thing and make my own band and play the songs.
- 8:44Jesse Taylor: And from there I just, you know, Craig's list, good old Craigslist ad.
- 8:51Jesse Taylor: Yup.
- 8:52Jesse Taylor: Started finding everybody.
- 8:53Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 8:54Jesse Taylor: And then through people, um, like people, I had a couple of friends from work like at this point, it's funny, it's been two years now and there's already like this iteration of Jesse Taylor band is not anybody that was originally in it.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Oh really?
- 9:06Speaker 3: That's funny.
- 9:06Speaker 3: I didn't know that either though.
- 9:08Speaker 3: You know, it's just like life
- 9:10Jesse Taylor: from, it's hard to come in and shit happens and whatever.
- 9:15Jesse Taylor: So it's been, it's been funny.
- 9:16Jesse Taylor: It's only been a couple of years and just
- 9:19Speaker 3: being in a band is a serious commitment if you want to go out and record and have that sound that you sound serious.
- 9:27Speaker 3: That's a serious commitment.
- 9:29Speaker 3: I've, I've been in bands where I've played the same song for eight hours straight.
- 9:34Speaker 3: And you don't sound that good if you don't put in that time.
- 9:38Speaker 3: And that's, it's not really a hobby thing if that's what you're going for.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Yep.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Very understandable.
- 9:44Speaker 3: You know.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Right.
- 9:45Speaker 3: People
- 9:45Jesse Taylor: bull right time and it's a lot, but it's definitely worth it.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:51Speaker 3: The contest is so awesome.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Congrats on winning.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:54Speaker 3: That's such a cool thing.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:56Speaker 3: So that was after like, you know, it was like
- 9:58Jesse Taylor: six months of playing with this new iteration and thinking about recording.
- 10:03Jesse Taylor: Um, cause I had recorded an AP last year, 80 degrees in October, um, at robot dogs studio, another studio with dog in the name.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Was that also in Boston?
- 10:13Speaker 3: No, that's here and Williston actually you won't mind.
- 10:15Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 10:16Jesse Taylor: And that was something that I just was like, all right, it's been a few years.
- 10:20Jesse Taylor: I have no music out there.
- 10:21Jesse Taylor: I need to like get something.
- 10:23Jesse Taylor: So I just, you know, tried to figure out the best way to just get in the studio and record.
- 10:27Jesse Taylor: I was just going to do a single, right.
- 10:30Jesse Taylor: Um, cause there was like some promo, a couple hundred bucks, record a single.
- 10:33Jesse Taylor: But then once we were in there, I was like, shit, we're in here.
- 10:36Jesse Taylor: Like let's just record a couple of songs.
- 10:37Jesse Taylor: Like, you know, it's like out, we can pay hourly and, and whatever.
- 10:41Jesse Taylor: So we ended up doing a whole AP.
- 10:43Jesse Taylor: Um, and that was really great.
- 10:45Jesse Taylor: And I played most of the songs on acoustic.
- 10:48Jesse Taylor: And then after that, you know, our drummer at the time moved to Japan and then like the guitar player, I left the band and it just like, you know, I kinda had to feel like I was starting over again.
- 10:58Jesse Taylor: And then, you know, Matt joined the band and the sound kind of started to shift a little bit.
- 11:03Jesse Taylor: I was playing more electric guitar, so it was kinda starting to just, yeah, morphed a little bit I guess as bands do.
- 11:11Jesse Taylor: Um, and then, so I was thinking about recording again, you know, a year later I'm like, damn, we need some like relative material, some new stuff.
- 11:17Jesse Taylor: And then that's when we saw the plaid dog thing that was like, you know, send us a video of what you have recorded and blah blah blah.
- 11:25Jesse Taylor: And I was like, whatever.
- 11:26Jesse Taylor: I'll send them our thing and
- 11:28Speaker 3: right.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:29Speaker 3: I know you've already got, I'm assuming, did you already have a couple of things like just quick recordings you had done.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:36Speaker 3: So easy it over.
- 11:38Speaker 3: Yup.
- 11:38Jesse Taylor: So they loved it and were like, let's do it.
- 11:41Jesse Taylor: And that was a lot of, honestly, I'm like, wow, I can't believe here we are like November 23rd and we're like done with the campaign.
- 11:49Jesse Taylor: Cause we started talking to the studio and planning for it like in July.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:55Speaker 3: From the sounds of it, there was a huge mountain of work from that end and now being done, it probably feels, yeah.
- 12:04Speaker 3: I'm so glad to be on this side.
- 12:06Speaker 3: It was, it was definitely a lot, but that's awesome.
- 12:09Becca Hammond: And I'm sure everyone who donated and everyone else in the community is excited to hear what you're going to come out.
- 12:14Becca Hammond: Yeah.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:15Speaker 3: And did Matt say you guys are going to record in the spring, you're going to start working?
- 12:20Speaker 3: Yeah, we're thinking it's going to be this spring also.
- 12:22Speaker 3: The studio is pretty cool.
- 12:23Speaker 3: It's like the only student in the country based on crowdsourcing.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Um, that's awesome.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's right in Boston.
- 12:31Speaker 3: It's in Austin, so I guess right outside of Boston I know nothing of anything other than Vermont, so I'll have to take your word.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:39Speaker 3: Um, Oh yeah.
- 12:41Speaker 3: So there's a couple of projects ahead of us that like, you know, successfully did their thing and they got to get in the studio.
- 12:46Speaker 3: So we're just trying to book our time hopefully.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Yep.
- 12:49Speaker 3: As soon as we can.
- 12:50Speaker 3: February, March and yeah.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Should it be out in the spring, I hope.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Is everything apply dog does the same sort of crowdsourcing platform where they have a contest, they find somebody or is this just some people just come forward and ask them?
- 13:06Speaker 3: I think some people will come forward and ask.
- 13:08Speaker 3: You can like submit.
- 13:09Speaker 3: I think they have like a rolling submission.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Okay.
- 13:12Speaker 3: I think they do like 30 projects a year or something.
- 13:15Speaker 3: You're just the lucky dogs won all the promotion and help with the, yeah, that's awesome.
- 13:20Speaker 3: And then additionally I think, you know, people can go to the studio to get like mixing and mastering services and not do, I'm sure they take money, right?
- 13:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 13:29Speaker 3: If you just record your own pieces, give them the raw files.
- 13:33Speaker 3: That's I'm sure that's a whole side other, other side of their business.
- 13:37Speaker 3: But they're the crown sourcing experts.
- 13:40Speaker 3: They definitely have the whole marketing plan and well it sounds like you do the whole they pulled through for you guys for sure.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Like it worked perfectly and was exactly what you were hoping and we get to keep 100% of our rights to, which is like, you know, at first I'm like skeptical about like what is the studio that we don't really have to pay for, but they help you, right?
- 13:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:59Speaker 3: You never know.
- 14:00Speaker 3: They could be claiming that then, you know, that's not really the deal.
- 14:04Speaker 3: They're going to.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Soon as we found out, it was like all good in that area.
- 14:07Speaker 3: We were like, let's do it.
- 14:09Speaker 3: I want to record music and I don't really have a bunch of money to take out of my pocket to record now.
- 14:14Speaker 3: I'm so, yeah.
- 14:15Speaker 3: And that expertise,
- 14:16Becca Hammond: this is something else, cause I've had a couple, like I've recorded a couple of ups with little bands and it sounded okay, but it wasn't, you know, a high level production that you could tell the a producer looked at or listened to, I should say, and worked on it.
- 14:35Becca Hammond: You definitely get a very different vibe from somebody's basement versus going to a real studio where they really know what they're doing.
- 14:44Becca Hammond: So yeah, it's much, much better if you can do it in a real studio.
- 14:48Becca Hammond: It sounds great.
- 14:48Becca Hammond: And then it's, I think that's more what people pay
- 14:52Speaker 3: more money for is that high audio quality.
- 14:56Speaker 3: So if you can deliver that, that's awesome.
- 14:58Speaker 3: And if the fans are literally the ones paying for it, then you know they are going to want to buy it.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:05Speaker 3: So Jesse, can you tell me about your cover band called laser dog dad.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Oh, I messed it up.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Okay.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Just, it's hard to keep track, like all these dogs and the studios and the dads and you know, he's her dad.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Let me fix up.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Okay.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Jesse, can you tell me a little bit about laser dad?
- 15:23Speaker 3: What is laser dad about?
- 15:25Speaker 3: Laser.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Dad is a
- 15:26Jesse Taylor: all about the 90s, so it is super fun.
- 15:32Jesse Taylor: Um, I knew the guitar player just like through, you know, I think we had jammed together a few years ago, just like looking for people to play with and whatnot.
- 15:42Jesse Taylor: Um, and they had formed this band like a year ago and their singer, Alex was moving to New York city, so he reached out and was like, Oh, I heard 80 degrees in October.
- 15:51Jesse Taylor: I loved Jerry P, you know, we're doing this 90s project.
- 15:54Jesse Taylor: Would you be interested in saying some 90 songs?
- 15:57Jesse Taylor: And I was like, yes,
- 15:59Speaker 3: I don't mind to, I think about it.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Yes.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Serious.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Eddie sent me the set list and I was like, Oh, this is amazing.
- 16:08Speaker 3: It's like, can you give a couple of the songs?
- 16:11Speaker 3: Yeah,
- 16:11Jesse Taylor: I mean, we do some, no doubt, um, don't speak.
- 16:14Jesse Taylor: You ought to know Alanise.
- 16:17Jesse Taylor: Um,
- 16:18Speaker 3: serious narrowed.
- 16:18Speaker 3: I blind, you know, nine do soul music.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Yeah, no scrubs.
- 16:24Speaker 3: Yes.
- 16:25Speaker 3: That is one of my favorites.
- 16:27Speaker 3: She's so high.
- 16:30Speaker 3: Yes,
- 16:31Jesse Taylor: it's, it's great.
- 16:33Jesse Taylor: Um, so it's really fun to be able to kind of step away from serious newness of songwriting and vulnerability of singing your own songs and not that you're not feeling those feelings when you're saying someone else's songs, but you know what I mean.
- 16:47Jesse Taylor: It's fun to get with a group of people and play play covers and be with a crowd who knows and loves all of this.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 16:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:54Speaker 3: If the people already know the songs they're out, they're just open to singing them out loud with you and it's, it's great.
- 17:01Speaker 3: We, you know, I weigh the Fanny pack and everything.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Awesome.
- 17:05Speaker 3: So much fun.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Do you guys play out often?
- 17:07Speaker 3: Yeah, we play out
- 17:08Jesse Taylor: pretty often.
- 17:09Jesse Taylor: So we have actually, there's a weekend in December.
- 17:12Jesse Taylor: I don't know if you're going to do this at the end.
- 17:14Jesse Taylor: I was going to plug some shows.
- 17:16Jesse Taylor: Um,
- 17:16Speaker 3: yeah, we'll probably do a whole show.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Good contact details also for the band.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Sweet.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Awesome.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:23Speaker 3: That sounds amazing though.
- 17:24Speaker 3: So you're wearing a Fanny pack, you're singing songs that we all know off the radio.
- 17:29Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Wow.
- 17:33Speaker 3: How many people are in this band?
- 17:35Speaker 3: Five.
- 17:35Jesse Taylor: Five of us.
- 17:37Speaker 3: So you've been in a few months, it sounds like.
- 17:40Speaker 3: We'll see.
- 17:41Speaker 3: I guess I joined last January, so almost a year.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Awesome.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Yup.
- 17:47Speaker 3: So let's about your songwriting
- 17:50Becca Hammond: process.
- 17:50Becca Hammond: You've mentioned it a couple of times.
- 17:52Becca Hammond: What's it like?
- 17:53Becca Hammond: Is it very personal to you?
- 17:55Becca Hammond: Is anyone else involved from the band?
- 17:57Jesse Taylor: It's pretty personal.
- 17:59Jesse Taylor: It's weird, like today, like it's always what I feel like, I'm never gonna write a song again that like finally I'll get some little lyric or some little like chord progression that I like or something.
- 18:10Jesse Taylor: So that happened this morning.
- 18:12Jesse Taylor: So I was just trying to, like, you asked me that and I was like, it's back a little bit, but like, it still wasn't a whole song.
- 18:17Jesse Taylor: So I'd say, you know, it's like sleeting it comes in waves and sometimes the Meeses come and I'll write a whole song and sometimes they come for five minutes and I'll get a little snippet of something.
- 18:29Jesse Taylor: Um, so I would say mostly it's like stream of consciousness for me.
- 18:33Jesse Taylor: Like when I feel like writing, I'll like pick up my guitar and just like write.
- 18:38Jesse Taylor: And oftentimes those lyrics in the moment are really great.
- 18:42Jesse Taylor: So I'll just record that on my phone and then like go back and listen.
- 18:45Becca Hammond: Cool.
- 18:45Becca Hammond: I've always respected people who managed to just sing something spot and have it actually be usable later.
- 18:52Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 18:53Jesse Taylor: Or you know, I'll be like reading about something and thinking about something and then be able to kind of write a song about it.
- 18:58Jesse Taylor: Um, I can definitely be like, I wanna write a song about this and sit down and do it.
- 19:02Jesse Taylor: But I think the best songs for me are when it's just like something that needs to come out in some sort of way.
- 19:09Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 19:10Becca Hammond: You're expressing some sort of emotion more.
- 19:12Becca Hammond: Yeah.
- 19:13Becca Hammond: I thought you just need to express something.
- 19:15Becca Hammond: Yeah.
- 19:15Becca Hammond: Yeah.
- 19:15Becca Hammond: That's awesome.
- 19:16Becca Hammond: I've, I've written a little bit of music myself and it's always so weird how the same exact thing that you're describing where it's like suddenly I'll write lines and lines and I'll feel really good about all of them.
- 19:30Becca Hammond: And sometimes I'll think of two lines and then I'll scrape and try and keep writing and it's terrible.
- 19:37Becca Hammond: Yeah, it's, it's fun.
- 19:38Becca Hammond: It's interesting how different people write cause I hear some people can just write in a group and that one's always so interesting to me when people can just bounce off each other and just do that.
- 19:49Becca Hammond: So nothing like that with you guys.
- 19:52Jesse Taylor: I mean sometimes you know, our, I'll come in with unfinished ideas and we'll work through like structure stuff.
- 19:57Jesse Taylor: But I think for the most part I do a lot of it by myself.
- 20:01Jesse Taylor: Not that I'm like against working with a group, I just think it's like, I don't know.
- 20:06Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 20:06Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 20:07Jesse Taylor: And I mean they're your lyrics.
- 20:08Jesse Taylor: It's, yeah.
- 20:09Jesse Taylor: Yup.
- 20:09Jesse Taylor: Totally understood.
- 20:12Becca Hammond: Do you want to talk about the album a little more?
- 20:14Becca Hammond: Cause you, all the songs are written on the album already, correct?
- 20:18Becca Hammond: Yes.
- 20:19Becca Hammond: Is there a general theme about it or anything in particular?
- 20:23Becca Hammond: Tying them all together besides time,
- 20:25Jesse Taylor: particularly one of the songs, the single that we put out a door you that you can listen to, um, is actually an older song.
- 20:33Jesse Taylor: Like it's one of the first songs that I wrote on guitar.
- 20:35Jesse Taylor: I actually wrote it on my dad's guitar before I even had one, like on Christmas Eve down in my parents' basement.
- 20:42Jesse Taylor: I remember that, um, for some reason.
- 20:44Jesse Taylor: But, um, so that's kinda because that's a song that I didn't really think much about and it's just from so long ago that now it's really cool.
- 20:54Jesse Taylor: I'm like playing with the whole band and means a lot to a lot of different people, which is the cool thing about music is like at the time, maybe it meant a certain thing for me, but now it could mean something totally different completely.
- 21:06Jesse Taylor: Um, and then the other songs are definitely like more new, like in the past year or two years.
- 21:11Jesse Taylor: So I think it'll be like a good balance of like some older stuff and then some really fresh new material.
- 21:20Jesse Taylor: Cool.
- 21:21Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 21:22Becca Hammond: So do you have a general plan of how you're going to attack the recording process or are you just going to let the guys at plot dog do their thing and tell you guys what to do?
- 21:33Becca Hammond: Yeah, with the single week
- 21:34Jesse Taylor: kinda like, you know, we had it already how the song, how I had originally written it and then I talked to that producer and we just kinda decided, you know, we're going to do like a double chorus at the end instead of just like ending on one chorus and just ending we're, and you're like a double chorus and then like fade out on the instrumental, they're like whatever.
- 21:51Jesse Taylor: Just like some little changes like that.
- 21:54Jesse Taylor: Um, no lyric rewrites though.
- 21:56Jesse Taylor: No, no.
- 21:57Jesse Taylor: That's always a good thing.
- 21:58Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 21:59Jesse Taylor: So pretty much, yeah.
- 22:00Jesse Taylor: As it is.
- 22:03Jesse Taylor: Mmm.
- 22:03Jesse Taylor: Kind of build.
- 22:04Jesse Taylor: It depends.
- 22:05Jesse Taylor: Like you can either go in and record the song altogether and do it live and then kind of like do it from there.
- 22:11Jesse Taylor: Like I'll keep my acoustic guitar track, not keep anything else.
- 22:15Jesse Taylor: And then like Matt will go in and listen to that and write on the drum track.
- 22:19Jesse Taylor: And then kind of like you just build from there.
- 22:22Jesse Taylor: Um, so I think that's probably how do it, I would think.
- 22:24Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 22:26Becca Hammond: I wanted to ask you how you describe your musical genre.
- 22:30Becca Hammond: Like what's your style?
- 22:31Becca Hammond: Cause there's so many different sub genres now.
- 22:33Becca Hammond: I know that's like my least favorite question to be honest because I don't know what to say.
- 22:39Becca Hammond: If you just had to pick like adjectives to describe what you think of your music and what you want to be.
- 22:50Jesse Taylor: Um, you just said want to be, and I was like, well that's another song we do.
- 22:53Jesse Taylor: [inaudible]
- 22:56Becca Hammond: Mmm.
- 22:58Jesse Taylor: I don't know.
- 22:59Jesse Taylor: I mean well you said adjectives, but I guess like back to John rhe I would say like indie rock maybe.
- 23:06Jesse Taylor: Um,
- 23:07Becca Hammond: yeah cause that's what Matt said and I was so curious if you guys were going to come out with the same term rock
- 23:13Jesse Taylor: before because it is like some of the songs are lyrically driven and I kind of have this like spoken word thing I do sometimes.
- 23:20Jesse Taylor: I don't know if you've lifted, listened to like Courtney Barnett at all where she'll kind of like a little bit go into like ramble-y spoken and then like go back into singing and stuff.
- 23:29Jesse Taylor: Um, so yeah, I guess I would say like honest rock, there's a couple songs that kind of have more of a punk vibe to them.
- 23:37Becca Hammond: What I noticed at your show, that's why I was so curious what you guys were going to say because I felt some punk moments and then there was where I could hear
- 23:46Speaker 3: it.
- 23:46Speaker 3: Like you've got a lot rock.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:48Speaker 3: Like there's so many different flavors.
- 23:51Speaker 3: What would you say?
- 23:53Speaker 3: Cause there was seconds, there was just moments in songs where I could hear just a touch of like folk in your voice.
- 23:59Speaker 3: And then I said something to Matthew about that and he said that you sing everything and you originally write with an acoustic guitar.
- 24:07Speaker 3: So it made a lot of sense.
- 24:08Speaker 3: And then he comes back and says that he likes to add a little bit of the pop rock to kind of give it some bouts.
- 24:15Speaker 3: Yep.
- 24:15Speaker 3: I can hear all of these different things happening and just rock, pop punk in general.
- 24:21Speaker 3: There's definitely a punk feel though.
- 24:23Speaker 3: A few of the songs you played.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:25Speaker 3: So yeah, it's just this Anna morphous rock and to T that's really cool.
- 24:30Speaker 3: But I wasn't sure what to call it.
- 24:32Speaker 3: I didn't want to define it for you.
- 24:34Speaker 3: I know.
- 24:34Speaker 3: I like that.
- 24:35Speaker 3: What did you say?
- 24:36Speaker 3: An amorphous rock.
- 24:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:37Speaker 3: And to, to you to entity.
- 24:39Speaker 3: I like that.
- 24:40Speaker 3: I like that.
- 24:41Speaker 3: I like honest rock to honest rock band.
- 24:43Speaker 3: That's a good one.
- 24:44Speaker 3: I can use that if I want to add more to the intro.
- 24:47Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Cool.
- 24:50Speaker 3: And a morphous honest rock band.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Excluding your own music for a little bit now, what is your favorite show that you've ever been to in the area?
- 25:01Jesse Taylor: Hmm, well, I saw, I mean, there's been so many great shows here.
- 25:07Jesse Taylor: I love Lake street dive and I first got into them like[inaudible], I dunno, five or six years ago.
- 25:15Jesse Taylor: I saw them play at the friendly gathering.
- 25:17Jesse Taylor: Like it wasn't a very big, they weren't really huge yet.
- 25:20Jesse Taylor: Um, so that was really amazing.
- 25:22Jesse Taylor: Show and I got to like, you know, hug Rachel Price and like, I really was like end of her style of singing for a long time and I kind of had to like take a break from it cause I was like starting to like almost like mimic her voice, not like intentionally, but like I was like singing along to that album.
- 25:37Jesse Taylor: That's how for just so many times that I just was like going there.
- 25:40Jesse Taylor: So, um, I saw them again over the summer at the waterfront and that was really amazing to see them again, like after five years and they have, uh, another band member and just have really grown a lot.
- 25:52Jesse Taylor: Um, awesome.
- 25:53Jesse Taylor: So that was really cool.
- 25:54Jesse Taylor: And I would say that's one of them.
- 25:55Jesse Taylor: And then when Merrill, I guess I was before you were here, was it, was it no Memorial, I'm getting my Maine and Vermont venues confused Memorial auditorium.
- 26:06Jesse Taylor: It's not a thing anymore, I guess.
- 26:08Jesse Taylor: Um, I mean it's still there, but they don't.
- 26:10Speaker 3: Yes.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Yes.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Okay.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I do not.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I'm talking about, I have two 42 main and they used to have a bunch of[inaudible].
- 26:17Speaker 3: I did get to go to a couple shows at two for two when I was a kid.
- 26:22Jesse Taylor: Um, I saw a modest mouse there, which was, I love modest mouse.
- 26:26Jesse Taylor: So that was like a great show for me.
- 26:27Jesse Taylor: Like it actually wasn't like an amazing like sound wise show, but like just for me like to see her, you know?
- 26:34Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:35Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 26:35Speaker 3: That's I would say it's half of the experience of the, yeah, cause you could sometimes go to a show that sonically didn't sound great,
- 26:44Becca Hammond: but it was your favorite person in the world.
- 26:45Becca Hammond: So it really doesn't matter or it could sound so good and you have no idea who they are, but it makes it them your favorite person in the world.
- 26:53Becca Hammond: Yeah.
- 26:53Becca Hammond: Like I've, I've never been to shows that so many of the different places that,
- 26:57Speaker 4: okay.
- 26:59Becca Hammond: Like people start playing, I've still never been a radio bean.
- 27:02Becca Hammond: I walk by it all the time.
- 27:03Becca Hammond: Right.
- 27:03Becca Hammond: Right over here.
- 27:05Becca Hammond: I've never Ivy in food there once, but I never got to see a show there, which is so sad.
- 27:10Becca Hammond: I need to go.
- 27:11Jesse Taylor: Yeah, I'm a shot and I don't know a lot of laser down.
- 27:16Jesse Taylor: Yes.
- 27:16Jesse Taylor: Yes.
- 27:17Jesse Taylor: Cool.
- 27:18Becca Hammond: Oh, okay.
- 27:19Becca Hammond: So now your favorite show that you guys have put on either solo or with the band, where was your favorite?
- 27:29Jesse Taylor: Um, one of them I guess would be like, sometimes I like little, like DIY basement D shows more than like a bar where people are not, you know, they're like drinking and not really paying attention or doing their own thing or they're just like, they're, yeah.
- 27:47Jesse Taylor: Um, there was a show he played at the gloom garden Winooski and um, there was a few other bands there and there wasn't that many people there, but everyone that was there, it was just like standing right in front of us, like all listening really intently.
- 28:01Jesse Taylor: And then there was a one song where they like all like grabbed, they put their arms around each other and were like,[inaudible], well, we were like spraying playing this lower song.
- 28:10Jesse Taylor: And it just was amazing.
- 28:11Jesse Taylor: So I was like, wow, I really appreciate it.
- 28:13Jesse Taylor: Sometimes a little listening room show more than, you know, a big, big shows are fun too, but, Oh yeah.
- 28:20Jesse Taylor: The intimate, like you feel like you're singing to these people and they really appreciate it.
- 28:25Jesse Taylor: You are.
- 28:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:28Becca Hammond: What's your favorite part of living in Burlington?
- 28:33Jesse Taylor: Um, probably the community aspect of it.
- 28:38Jesse Taylor: Um, I think growing up I kind of, I mean everybody throughout like their adolescence and growing up years is like trying to fit in or dealing with what that really means to them and whatever, when we all just kind of, you know, figure out how to belong to ourselves anyway, but that's a whole nother conversation.
- 28:55Jesse Taylor: But, um, I, I moved around schools a lot and I never really knew what I liked to do and I finally feel like, um, when I moved here, I've like been able to find my people and find my things that I like.
- 29:06Jesse Taylor: And you know, I'm fine.
- 29:08Jesse Taylor: My coffee shops that I like to go to and my yoga studio that I go to and teach at and have met so many amazing people through that.
- 29:15Jesse Taylor: And through music and cool.
- 29:17Jesse Taylor: I didn't know you.
- 29:18Jesse Taylor: I guess that's another thing we could, yeah, I'd love to hear about it.
- 29:23Jesse Taylor: It's awesome.
- 29:23Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 29:26Becca Hammond: I also feel the same way about the area cause I grew up in the middle of nowhere and was bullied constantly when I was a kid and never felt like I really belonged out there.
- 29:39Becca Hammond: And I still feel that way.
- 29:40Becca Hammond: But in Burlington I
- 29:42Speaker 3: don't feel that way at all.
- 29:43Speaker 3: I feel like I fit in just as much as anyone else in this area.
- 29:46Speaker 3: So I very much feel that community vibe.
- 29:52Speaker 3: You're a yoga instructor, you're in a cover band from the 90s, which is amazing.
- 30:00Speaker 3: Laser dad.
- 30:01Speaker 3: I needed to re say the name cause it's a so amazing place for dad, the nineties band.
- 30:08Speaker 3: And you're also in your own band, Jesse Taylor band to the Jesse Taylor band and you also play solo shows.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Is there anything else you're hiding that you do in this community that is really cool that we could talk about?
- 30:23Speaker 3: Well, I think that's pretty much pretty much all I have to offer right now.
- 30:29Speaker 3: That's quite a lot.
- 30:32Speaker 3: Um, well, you know, it's funny because my other side hustles are like dog sitting house sitting, but I don't need to plug myself for that right now cause I have like my sweet spot of like amount of gigs per year.
- 30:43Speaker 3: I'm like figuring that, you know.
- 30:45Speaker 3: Yup.
- 30:45Speaker 3: Definitely.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Go Ray.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Me, Dan a little.
- 30:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's, that's good for now.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:51Speaker 3: But I've found that that is better for me.
- 30:54Speaker 3: This is like, I guess it's been a year and a half now of like not working a 40 hour a week job, just like pushing myself to do that because that's what everybody is doing and need to pay my bills and blah, blah, blah.
- 31:04Speaker 3: I did the food service thing for like 10 years and was like so miserable.
- 31:08Speaker 3: So I'm like, my brain just does way better with like five different little things.
- 31:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:15Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 31:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:16Speaker 3: And if you can live that way, that's what so many other people aspire to do is just live being happy and support themselves.
- 31:24Speaker 3: That's the dream, right?
- 31:25Speaker 3: Yup.
- 31:26Speaker 3: So the yoga studio, where is the yoga studio located?
- 31:30Speaker 3: So Tsonga and there's two locations.
- 31:34Speaker 3: There's one on pine street, um, one 20 pine street.
- 31:37Speaker 3: I believe it is.
- 31:39Speaker 3: So not over here.
- 31:40Speaker 3: It's kind of more in town.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what I was thinking on the far end of pine street near the city.
- 31:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:46Speaker 3: So it's kinda like across from ski rack kind of over there in that area.
- 31:51Speaker 3: Cool.
- 31:52Speaker 3: Um, and then there's one in the old North end too, which is very convenient cause I, it's like five minute walk from my apartment.
- 31:58Speaker 3: Awesome.
- 31:59Speaker 3: On North Winooski.
- 31:59Speaker 3: So that's like right near, I guess they're building like a new grocery store across the street from where that is right now.
- 32:04Speaker 3: It's kinda near like Bush and babes.
- 32:05Speaker 3: I don't know if you're familiar with that area at all, but that's awesome to hear though.
- 32:09Speaker 3: We could always use more grocery stores.
- 32:11Speaker 3: So um, but that's been awesome.
- 32:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a really great studio and there's like so many teachers in class options for store active and Ian and flow and also blow massage flow.
- 32:22Speaker 3: So do you teach at both locations?
- 32:25Speaker 3: Um, I do right now for like one more the last week of November and then I'm going to be just teaching over at the North studio.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:30Speaker 3: I don't blame you for the winter.
- 32:32Speaker 3: Just not driving.
- 32:33Speaker 3: Yeah, sounds good.
- 32:35Speaker 3: Boom.
- 32:35Speaker 3: Block out of my house.
- 32:36Speaker 3: It's right there.
- 32:37Speaker 3: So cool.
- 32:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:38Speaker 3: So do specialize in
- 32:40Jesse Taylor: any special type of yoga?
- 32:42Jesse Taylor: Um, I just do PLO pretty much regular Hatha flow.
- 32:47Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 32:47Jesse Taylor: Move with breath.
- 32:48Jesse Taylor: Nothing too[inaudible]
- 32:50Becca Hammond: I know nothing of yoga terms.
- 32:52Becca Hammond: So everything you just said to me sounds amazing.
- 32:56Jesse Taylor: [inaudible] it's like your average, if you were to go to, I don't know, yoga studio and just go to your average flow or Vinyasa class or it might be labeled as HofA.
- 33:06Jesse Taylor: There's a lot of different names for like similar styles, you know, it's not hot yoga.
- 33:11Becca Hammond: I do, I've heard of hot yoga.
- 33:13Becca Hammond: And is that the same as Bikram yoga?
- 33:16Becca Hammond: Am I okay?
- 33:17Becca Hammond: I see.
- 33:17Becca Hammond: I kind of, I know some things.
- 33:20Becca Hammond: Yeah.
- 33:22Jesse Taylor: Oh that's cool.
- 33:23Jesse Taylor: So
- 33:24Becca Hammond: would this be something you'd call a beginner's course if someone walked in?
- 33:28Becca Hammond: Would you be teaching their beginners?
- 33:30Jesse Taylor: I would say that it is accessible to beginners, but some experience would be helpful.
- 33:37Becca Hammond: Okay.
- 33:38Becca Hammond: So it's a little, a little more[inaudible].
- 33:40Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 33:40Jesse Taylor: Like if you, you know, you would maybe want to know some of the basic poses like down dog and, right.
- 33:47Jesse Taylor: But I don't go super fast.
- 33:49Jesse Taylor: Like we pretty much move with breath and try to make it pretty awesome.
- 33:52Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 33:53Jesse Taylor: Cool.
- 33:53Jesse Taylor: Yeah, that sounds inviting.
- 33:55Jesse Taylor: Is it something you, how many classes do you teach a week?
- 33:58Jesse Taylor: Two a week right now.
- 33:59Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 34:00Jesse Taylor: Nice.
- 34:00Jesse Taylor: Which has been good for me.
- 34:02Jesse Taylor: Yeah, it's been like year and a half ago.
- 34:05Jesse Taylor: I got my certification and I kind of like did my teacher training and wasn't really sure if I wanted to teach.
- 34:10Jesse Taylor: I just was like, felt like I wanted to do that, um, for myself to deepen my practice.
- 34:16Jesse Taylor: And I was with two teachers who I really liked and felt the most connected with and I was like, Oh, they're doing a teacher training.
- 34:22Jesse Taylor: I definitely, that's awesome.
- 34:24Jesse Taylor: So I kinda was like, I don't even know if I'm going to want to teach.
- 34:27Jesse Taylor: But then I ended up trying it and liking it.
- 34:30Jesse Taylor: Of course at first it's weird.
- 34:32Jesse Taylor: Oh, I'm sure like anything starting to perform or anything is weird.
- 34:36Jesse Taylor: Um, but it gets less and less uncomfortable, so that's good.
- 34:39Jesse Taylor: That's awesome.
- 34:40Jesse Taylor: That's great to hear.
- 34:41Jesse Taylor: So how big are the classes normally?
- 34:42Jesse Taylor: How many people like I would say 15 average.
- 34:46Jesse Taylor: That's pretty good size.
- 34:47Jesse Taylor: I mean the 6:30 AM class I have right now is usually like probably two to eight but the, yeah, it's early in the morning to seven 30 has been pretty, pretty, pretty good.
- 34:56Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 34:56Jesse Taylor: Like 10 15 people usually.
- 34:58Jesse Taylor: Nice.
- 34:59Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 34:59Jesse Taylor: That's awesome.
- 35:00Jesse Taylor: Here about, yeah, which is the other great thing about Burlington is there's like so many yoga studios and like good food and yeah.
- 35:09Jesse Taylor: I have so many good local options and for like everything you could need.
- 35:14Jesse Taylor: Right?
- 35:14Becca Hammond: Yeah, exactly.
- 35:15Becca Hammond: Is there any other, do you like going to the comedy club or anything like I have not been to the comedy club.
- 35:19Becca Hammond: I was talking to my roommate about this actually recently.
- 35:21Becca Hammond: Like, I've been here now all these years and I have yet to go in there.
- 35:24Becca Hammond: So that's on my list this winter.
- 35:26Becca Hammond: I also have not been, so yeah.
- 35:28Becca Hammond: I also haven't been a lot of places.
- 35:32Jesse Taylor: If you had to pick a favorite restaurant, Oh, someone do you down made
- 35:38Speaker 3: you pick, I know it's hard.
- 35:40Speaker 3: I'm like, I almost was like, what John rhe that's not like a word you use for your restaurants.
- 35:45Speaker 3: What's the word I'm looking for?
- 35:47Speaker 3: Um, cuisine type.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Like, okay.
- 35:52Speaker 3: What revolution kitchen was out of the tub.
- 35:54Speaker 3: Two of my talk, and I wanted to say it as soon as you asked that and maybe that's because I went there last night, but maybe that's because it's one of my favorite restaurants, but if I'm on the mood for like FAU, I'm going to FAU Hong, right Ty?
- 36:07Speaker 3: Tiny Tai.
- 36:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:07Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 36:08Speaker 3: That's, that's the great thing about that city revolution kitchen.
- 36:12Speaker 3: Really good.
- 36:13Speaker 3: I'm also a vegetarian, so you know, obviously that makes influences my decision.
- 36:18Speaker 3: Yes.
- 36:19Speaker 3: You can't being a vegetarian restaurant, but go to every single place and get quite as great of a meal.
- 36:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel you.
- 36:25Speaker 3: I've been doing the keto diet and finding good salads is turning into this whole adventure that I never thought it would be so hurt.
- 36:36Speaker 3: Have you been to a Tom girl?
- 36:37Speaker 3: I have not.
- 36:38Speaker 3: Where's that one located?
- 36:39Speaker 3: A little expensive but it's really good and I bet they could hook you up.
- 36:46Speaker 3: Um, the soda plant?
- 36:47Speaker 3: Nope, I haven't seen, I haven't heard plug away.
- 36:50Speaker 3: Plug away.
- 36:51Speaker 3: Um, so, well it's like pine street.
- 36:53Speaker 3: I mean shit, soda is so way down near the end cause I've walked.
- 36:59Speaker 3: Yes.
- 37:00Speaker 3: Okay.
- 37:00Speaker 3: Okay.
- 37:01Speaker 3: That's good stuff.
- 37:02Speaker 3: I can't, I don't know if it's before or after that.
- 37:04Speaker 3: It's like a big parking lot.
- 37:06Speaker 3: It's like a big square parking lot.
- 37:07Speaker 3: Breo coffee where yes, I have seen this soda plant is what the whole Lake area is called.
- 37:13Speaker 3: But anyway, there's a place called Tom girl juice.
- 37:16Speaker 3: Really amazing juices, but they also have like a big ass salad bar.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Oh, with like avocado.
- 37:22Speaker 3: And are they legs and for dinner?
- 37:25Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 37:27Speaker 3: Oh shit.
- 37:27Speaker 3: I check it out.
- 37:29Speaker 3: I can place.
- 37:29Speaker 3: I definitely need to see there's so many little places in Burlington tucked in that I just never went to when I was a kid.
- 37:35Speaker 3: Cause we'd come here to buy clothes.
- 37:37Speaker 3: We'd come here to go to the mall and turn around and go the pit.
- 37:42Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 37:43Speaker 3: We go to that pit in the ground and then we'd go home after we went to like the olive garden or whatever, just whatever easy restaurant there was Ray on a convenient, a convenient roadway usually just cause it was literally an hour here, an hour back.
- 38:00Speaker 3: So we're not, we're not here to go explore the city.
- 38:03Speaker 3: You were here for business basically.
- 38:05Speaker 3: So I I totally miss out.
- 38:07Speaker 3: Like I didn't know radio beating existed.
- 38:09Speaker 3: Really.
- 38:09Speaker 3: I mean they have great food to the restaurant.
- 38:12Speaker 3: Do we know that's attached to radio bean, you know it's like cool three.
- 38:15Speaker 3: Yeah cause there's like the light shop, the lamp shop and the club lamp shop if you want to get.
- 38:21Speaker 3: Yes.
- 38:22Speaker 3: That one confuses me cause there's also a light Dow light club down here.
- 38:27Speaker 3: My arts riot, the same business.
- 38:30Speaker 3: But I want it to be because my brain can't handle it now.
- 38:34Speaker 3: That is too similar.
- 38:38Jesse Taylor: Okay.
- 38:38Jesse Taylor: So Tom girl, Tom girl.
- 38:41Jesse Taylor: Yep.
- 38:41Jesse Taylor: Tom girl juice.
- 38:42Jesse Taylor: Awesome.
- 38:43Jesse Taylor: Check this place out there.
- 38:44Jesse Taylor: Share.
- 38:44Jesse Taylor: Thank you so much for the recommendation.
- 38:46Jesse Taylor: Love it.
- 38:47Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 38:47Jesse Taylor: Those don't know where anything is.
- 38:52Jesse Taylor: And if you do go to revolution kitchen, I mean everything great.
- 38:55Jesse Taylor: But the Buffalo cauliflower and tacos.
- 39:00Jesse Taylor: Ooh.
- 39:00Jesse Taylor: Yeah, that sounds good.
- 39:01Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 39:03Jesse Taylor: And where's revolution kitchen?
- 39:04Jesse Taylor: I've heard multiple people talk about that one, but I don't know where that is.
- 39:09Jesse Taylor: Yes, it's right on that little strip.
- 39:12Jesse Taylor: Yeah, I love that little road.
- 39:13Jesse Taylor: That's my favorite.
- 39:14Jesse Taylor: The cute little mural.
- 39:15Jesse Taylor: Cool.
- 39:16Jesse Taylor: Okay.
- 39:16Jesse Taylor: Yes, I do know where that is.
- 39:17Jesse Taylor: See I walk by it and it just, yep.
- 39:20Jesse Taylor: I always crave it.
- 39:22Jesse Taylor: Sorry, I interrupted you.
- 39:23Jesse Taylor: I always crave it on Sundays and Mondays for some reason.
- 39:25Jesse Taylor: So like last night I was like about to go to city market or hot buy or something and I was like, it's Friday night.
- 39:29Jesse Taylor: I'm fucking taken myself to revolution kitchen and like getting it.
- 39:32Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 39:34Jesse Taylor: Cool.
- 39:34Jesse Taylor: Yeah, I do.
- 39:34Jesse Taylor: To check that place out.
- 39:35Jesse Taylor: There's so many different places.
- 39:37Jesse Taylor: Check out.
- 39:38Jesse Taylor: I mean, yeah, check out Songa I guess if you haven't, totally bunch of classes, two locations.
- 39:45Jesse Taylor: Um, and it's the only nonprofit studio in town and it's donation based.
- 39:50Jesse Taylor: So that's pretty cool too.
- 39:52Jesse Taylor: You can pay what you can, you know, that's really, yoga can be expensive and inaccessible to people.
- 39:56Jesse Taylor: So it's really cool to have options.
- 39:59Jesse Taylor: Um, and memberships are like$60 a month, which is pretty sweet too on unlimited yoga at both studios.
- 40:05Jesse Taylor: So, Oh, that's really cool.
- 40:07Jesse Taylor: That's not too bad.
- 40:07Jesse Taylor: If you want to go to three, four classes a week, it's definitely reasonable.
- 40:11Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 40:12Jesse Taylor: And we're about to do the schedule shift, like start our winter schedule or whatever, December 1st.
- 40:17Jesse Taylor: So there'll be some new class options like late-night restorative and stuff, which is really awesome.
- 40:23Jesse Taylor: Nice.
- 40:23Jesse Taylor: Like less movement, you know, hang out in poses and right.
- 40:27Jesse Taylor: Close your eyes and relaxing a little more.
- 40:30Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 40:30Jesse Taylor: Awesome.
- 40:31Jesse Taylor: So that's a good winter time activity.
- 40:34Jesse Taylor: Nice.
- 40:35Jesse Taylor: So do you want to tell us a little bit about upcoming shows you have with either of your bands or any of your solo shows?
- 40:41Jesse Taylor: Yeah, so I guess I'll just spew the next couple of months, I guess.
- 40:45Jesse Taylor: Here we are almost in December already.
- 40:48Jesse Taylor: Almost.
- 40:48Jesse Taylor: It's just, it's, if anyone is curious, it's November 23rd.
- 40:53Jesse Taylor: It's Saturday, November 23rd, 2019 yeah, go ahead.
- 40:59Jesse Taylor: Spear your shows.
- 41:00Jesse Taylor: Alright.

- 41:09Jesse Taylor: Um, yeah, we'll do an hour of originals.
- 41:11Jesse Taylor: That's a$5 cover.
- 41:13Jesse Taylor: And then the following day, December 14th I'll be with laser data arts riot.
- 41:18Jesse Taylor: Um, we're doing this fun eighties versus nineties fight night.
- 41:23Jesse Taylor: So there's also an 80s cover band and I think they have some originals too called night protocol.
- 41:28Jesse Taylor: I'll work.
- 41:28Jesse Taylor: So it's like night protocol versus laser dad.
- 41:31Jesse Taylor: And we're like going to be on stage and like, yes, 80 saw 90 songs.
- 41:36Jesse Taylor: Yes.
- 41:37Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 41:38Jesse Taylor: So, you know, pick your decade and rock it out and we'll see you there.
- 41:43Jesse Taylor: Cause that'll be a fun one for sure.
- 41:45Jesse Taylor: Um, and then new year's Eve weekend, December 28th, Jesse Taylor bandits DOE cider.
- 41:52Jesse Taylor: We just booked that gig.
- 41:53Jesse Taylor: So that will be cool.
- 41:54Jesse Taylor: That's like four to 7:00 PM, so it'll be like a nice little app.
- 41:58Jesse Taylor: Ray ski, cider music.
- 42:01Jesse Taylor: Hang.
- 42:02Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 42:02Jesse Taylor: That's a pretty long gig.
- 42:03Jesse Taylor: Yeah.

- 42:15Jesse Taylor: Hilariously far.
- 42:16Jesse Taylor: So tempted to go myself, which is great because I'm like, you know, I'm on this like kick of not drinking right now and like I love having like music or like a show to play or something on like celebration days.
- 42:29Jesse Taylor: Right.
- 42:30Jesse Taylor: Cause it gives me something to do or whatever.
- 42:32Jesse Taylor: And you get that adrenaline.
- 42:33Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 42:34Jesse Taylor: Too nice.
- 42:35Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 42:36Jesse Taylor: Yeah.
- 42:37Jesse Taylor: I guess that's pretty much it for now.
- 42:39Jesse Taylor: I mean, cool.
- 42:40Jesse Taylor: Okay.
- 42:41Becca Hammond: Yeah.
- 42:41Becca Hammond: Do you want to give your contact details?
