Transcript
- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. Episode 116! How are you feeling today? Luna: Hey Lucas! I'm good, but I've got a bit of a headache, honestly. Lucas: Oh no! Well, that's actually perfect, because today we're going to the pharmacy. You'll learn how to ask for medicine in Dutch. Luna: Perfect timing! So, what's the first thing I'd say? 'I have pain'? Lucas: Exactly. That's 'Ik heb pijn.' Let's say it together: Ik heb pijn. Luna: Ik heb pijn. Lucas: Good. Now, if you have a headache specifically, you'd say 'Ik heb hoofdpijn.' But let's stick with the general phrase. Repeat after me: Ik heb pijn. Luna: Ik heb pijn. Lucas: Great. Now, the pharmacist might ask 'Waar heeft u pijn?' — Where do you have pain? But we'll keep it simple. Next, you want to ask if they have something for a headache: 'Hebt u iets tegen hoofdpijn?' Luna: Hebt u iets tegen hoofdpijn? Lucas: Perfect! 'Hoofdpijn' is headache. 'Tegen' means 'against' or 'for'. So you're saying 'Do you have something against headache?' Luna: Ah, that makes sense. Hebt u iets tegen hoofdpijn? Lucas: Exactly. Now, the pharmacist might show you a few options. You can say 'Ik zoek een medicijn.' — I'm looking for a medicine. Luna: Ik zoek een medicijn. Lucas: Yes. 'Medicijn' means medicine. Repeat: Ik zoek een medicijn. Luna: Ik zoek een medicijn. Lucas: Good. Then they'll tell you how to take it. A common question is 'Hoe vaak moet ik dit innemen?' — How often should I take this? Luna: Hoe vaak moet ik dit innemen? Lucas: Yes. 'Innemen' means to take. So, 'hoe vaak' is 'how often', 'moet ik' is 'should I', 'dit' is 'this'. Luna: Hoe vaak moet ik dit innemen? Lucas: Excellent. And the answer might be 'Driemaal daags.' — Three times a day. Luna: Driemaal daags. Lucas: Right. 'Drie' is three, 'maal' is times, 'daags' means daily. So 'driemaal daags'. Luna: Driemaal daags. Lucas: Let's do a little scene. I'm the pharmacist, you're the customer. You come in and say 'Ik heb pijn.' Luna: Ik heb pijn. Lucas: Then I ask 'Hebt u hoofdpijn?' You say 'Ja, hebt u iets tegen hoofdpijn?' Luna: Ja, hebt u iets tegen hoofdpijn? Lucas: I give you a box and say 'Dit is een goed medicijn.' You say 'Ik zoek een medicijn.' Perfect. Then you ask 'Hoe vaak moet ik dit innemen?' Luna: Hoe vaak moet ik dit innemen? Lucas: I answer 'Driemaal daags.' You say 'Dank u wel.' Luna: Driemaal daags. Dank u wel. Lucas: Excellent.
