- 0:40extraordinary things. So please subscribe, like,

- 0:46notified anytime. I post new content.
- 0:49So, for today's episode, I want to ask a question if you're
- 0:53given the opportunity to choose between very big wedding and
- 0:59more. Gage, or buying a house, what
- 1:03would you prefer? What would you choose?
- 1:08So, this conversation started and social media?
- 1:11When a young lady, Twitter that she was refused access to her
- 1:18friend's wedding because she was only able to buy actually be.
- 1:22For those of you who don't know what actually bees is basically
- 1:25like brighter in how you have Bridal trains, but these are
- 1:29people With kind of native attire, maybe lays and Kara, or
- 1:34whatever. It is, like a uniform that they
- 1:37wear to identify. Maybe the groomsmen or the
- 1:40bride's Maids. So just let you saying that her
- 1:46friend, a very good friend of ours was getting married and she
- 1:52was excited about the wedding only for her to be informed that
- 1:56if he doesn't buy, there should be, she's not going to The
- 2:00wedding. And she was, she said she was
- 2:02devastated because her financial situation at that point.
- 2:07She couldn't like she had other commitments.
- 2:10Money was tied, so she couldn't call found that money to buy
- 2:14their shabby and she made her friend aware of it.
- 2:16That, you know, I'm happy to attend your wedding, but I
- 2:20cannot pay for their, she be and friend.
- 2:24Basically told her well, everything in the is in the
- 2:27hands of The Wedding Planner, if you I cannot buy.
- 2:30There should be you cannot attend my wedding and, you know,
- 2:33she was bitter about it. She was complaining bitterly
- 2:36that this is what it is, is a very good friend of mine.
- 2:39This is a wedding that I have. I've been looking forward to and
- 2:44only for my, you know, for me to be Uninvited because of what in
- 2:49our should be. So let me just break this down a
- 2:52little bit. For those of you who don't know
- 2:54about Nigerian wedding, most times people that say, Last
- 3:00tribute to people especially those who are not financially
- 3:05buoyant. So for them to raise money for
- 3:08their wedding, they usually sell a she be at several inflated
- 3:14price. So the money they make from
- 3:16selling actually be, they use this money to, you know, cater
- 3:20for some of the needs that they have for that wedding.
- 3:23And most times you see that everybody wants to have a big
- 3:26wedding. I remember a friend, Of mine.
- 3:31The causing was getting married and I was invited.
- 3:34I was excited about it and we sat down, and we are talking
- 3:37about this wedding here in the UK.
- 3:40And she was just giving me kind of a breakdown of the whole
- 3:44wedding, and she mentioned the whole.
- 3:50The whole was very expensive. So, I was basically asking I was
- 3:55like, why is your cousin paying such an amount of money for just
- 4:00The venue. And that is a ridiculous amount
- 4:03of money. They had to pay a year in
- 4:05advance, to be able to afford like a fraction of the price and
- 4:08it wasn't even weekend. It was during the week.
- 4:11So I was like, why do you have to pay that amount of money?
- 4:16I was looking at the whole thing.
- 4:18I was either put on my project management have, I was
- 4:21calculating the budgets and I was like, just for the venue
- 4:25alone. We're not talking about
- 4:26decorations. We're not talking about
- 4:28entertainment. We're not Talking about, you
- 4:31know food. We're just talking about the
- 4:35venue itself. I you spent all this money and I
- 4:39was telling her, this is a mortgage that, you know, she is
- 4:43spending just on a venue when you guys because I know them,
- 4:48she the both of them are just trying to, you know, get by.
- 4:53And I was looking at it in the sense that this were going to
- 4:56get married. They're going to start looking
- 4:58for accommodation where they are going.
- 4:59Move into because she the lady was staying with her parents.
- 5:04He was he had an accommodation but obviously they have to move
- 5:08from that accommodation, to accommodate the both of them in
- 5:13a bigger house. Even if they are starting, small
- 5:15is going to be like a one-bedroom house.
- 5:17And I was looking at the cost of that after the cause that they
- 5:22would have incurred during that wedding.
- 5:24And then starting a life together is going to be a whole
- 5:28new cost on it. Sewn.
- 5:30So I was like, why wouldn't you just get a mortgage?
- 5:33And, you know, do a very small wedding.
- 5:35You can now celebrate like an anniversary, very big one when
- 5:40you're relaxed and balanced. You know, my friend just said,
- 5:44well, that is what she wanted. She wanted.
- 5:47She wanted a big wedding. He started selling a freebie.
- 5:49It was inflated price. I got my she be and even at that
- 5:54point, you know, I wasn't really, I was thinking what
- 5:57would I will spend this amount of money on and on?
- 5:59This material that I will still have to go.
- 6:03And so and it was just ridiculous for.
- 6:06I was like, if this is how I'm going to support this couple and
- 6:09happy to do that. So I went back and I was
- 6:12thinking about it. I was like, would I like if I am
- 6:18in her shoes, I mean, people are different and I was asking the
- 6:22question based on myself. I said, if I was in her shoes,
- 6:27and I have that money to pay. E-40 whole, we're not talking
- 6:32about the wedding dress. When I was talking about the
- 6:36outfit that both the bride and groom are going to where we're
- 6:39not talking about accessories. We're not talking about rings.
- 6:44When I was talking about, you know, a whole bunch of things
- 6:48that you have to think about before wedding that is more.
- 6:51Even this is just for the whole. So I was thinking if I have that
- 6:55money, Alfred I get a mortgage. Doesn't have like, I don't know.
- 7:01Like, people are different. Some people will tell you
- 7:04they've been planning their wedding when they were
- 7:06teenagers. Like you decided planning your
- 7:09wedding windy. We like 10 11, and I'm thinking,
- 7:13huh? How I think, for me, you can
- 7:17have the wedding of your dreams if you want, if you can afford
- 7:21it, but the reality is, a lot of people cannot afford the wedding
- 7:25that they want. They plan they have this, you
- 7:28know, big massive wedding. In in their head that they want
- 7:31to, you know, have for themselves or their finances
- 7:36does not match what they are planning our.
- 7:40Most of these people go into the get loans from Banks, especially
- 7:45the ladies because I think for men, they are kind of black and
- 7:48white. They are straight forward with
- 7:50their finances. If they cannot afford something,
- 7:53they will tell you, they cannot afford it.
- 7:55But most times it is the ladies that want to have That big
- 8:00wedding regardless of how much is going to cost.
- 8:03So you see a lot of families going into debt as this lady.
- 8:07Actually, some years back. She got married, like it was, it
- 8:13was a massive wedding. Like the Nigerian wedding.
- 8:16It was big. It was colorful.
- 8:19It was the Talk of the Town, everybody attended and I think
- 8:22she was trying to get into influence in at that point.
- 8:26So she kind of decided to use a big wedding to break.
- 8:29Into the world of influencing and it worked, it worked really
- 8:34well because everybody was talking about the wedding.
- 8:36Everybody was talking about the colors, the venue the food, and
- 8:40all that. So fast forward a few months
- 8:43later because she got the loan in her name to pay for the
- 8:49wedding. And I think maybe the husband at
- 8:51that point was saying, I cannot afford this, why are we even
- 8:55getting into debt before even getting married ball?
- 8:59You know, when people have that mindset of I want my wedding to
- 9:04be the Talk of the Town. She got the loan.
- 9:06She sponsored the wedding, and they were supposed to be as a
- 9:09couple. I think she porns that as a copy
- 9:14there. They are supposed to be paying
- 9:15for this loan. But when they got married, they
- 9:18started living together. Most of our money was going to
- 9:23pay this even known that she goes.
- 9:26While the husband is thinking, we're now down to, we are
- 9:29married. I know.
- 9:29I need you to help me with, you know, certain things.
- 9:32And from our own perspective. He is not being understanding
- 9:35because the money that she bought from the bank.
- 9:38She used it to sponsor. They are very massive, lavish
- 9:41wedding. So it caused quite a bit of
- 9:44friction between them and a couple of months later, the
- 9:49wedding, the marriage ended. And even the wedding was a
- 9:53success, but the marriage tanked and she came online.
- 9:57She was bitter. She was Cleaning about how the
- 10:01husband left, how its oldest loans that she took to sponsor
- 10:06the wedding. And the man came out and said,
- 10:08well, I did not ask you to borrow money for this wedding.
- 10:13We got married. We already started with huge
- 10:17debt. We got into this marriage with
- 10:19huge dead. And now we are two in this
- 10:21marriage and you're not even trying to help me.
- 10:24You're busy paying these debts and you're thinking I am, you
- 10:28know, not being a very Supportive husband, so you just
- 10:32got messy online. At the end of the day.
- 10:35I don't even know what happened or that was, how that marriage
- 10:38ended. So sometimes I think people that
- 10:43are selling actually be, you know, I should be is very
- 10:48beautiful. Like, if you want if you see
- 10:50weddings, one of the things that people actually, one of the
- 10:53things I look at is actually the actual babies, and it makes it
- 10:59so cold. We mix it.
- 11:00So beautiful. Both at the same time.
- 11:03You don't have to impose that on people, especially friends.
- 11:09I mean, if people want to buy and they can afford it.
- 11:13It's okay, even if you're having five people where you are should
- 11:16be that, I mean, I think I'm just different.
- 11:19I think that's the way my mind works or imposing inflated
- 11:24material price on people, just because you want to raise money
- 11:28for your way. Aging.
- 11:30I don't think that is fair. I don't think that is fair.
- 11:33And even after that wedding, people are not even thinking
- 11:37after wedding was going to happen in the marriage.
- 11:40People plan for wedding, but they don't float plan for
- 11:42marriage. Like the friend.
- 11:45I was telling you about after marriage.
- 11:47It was just it anyway. Anyway, don't just want to do
- 11:57big wedding. That's everybody's going.
- 11:59Talk about and then you get into the marriage.
- 12:02You're like scraping by drinking Gary on a daily basis just to
- 12:07get by like how is that you're just doing wedding to please
- 12:12people and then you in the marriage and you're literally in
- 12:17debt paying different money. You're trying to just why do
- 12:23people do that? Why even for me, even if I get a
- 12:27sponsor that will tell me I am going to Sponsor your wedding.
- 12:31And if I have a point in time, I don't have a mortgage or I don't
- 12:36have a house. If I know that I'm going to
- 12:38spend all this amount of money on the wedding, and then for the
- 12:43marriage, I'm going to be probably managing daily trying
- 12:50to pay bills, you know, even just working to pay bills and
- 12:55rather. Thank you for your generosity
- 12:59and I will explain why I am going to have a smaller wedding
- 13:04and use the rest of that person, especially anybody that is happy
- 13:10to contribute financially if you explain to them why and how you
- 13:15want to spend that money wisely. I don't think any reasonable
- 13:19person would tell, you know that.
- 13:20No, I just I just want you to have a big wedding.
- 13:24No, they're going to understand. They use cell in a Chevy to
- 13:27people. You're kicking friends out there
- 13:30cannot afford. You are shibby just because
- 13:34you're trying to raise money for your wedding.
- 13:37That is not nice. I think people should start
- 13:40making better financial decisions, especially when
- 13:44you're coming together as two people to live together.
- 13:48I mean, the first thing you need to be talking about is how to
- 13:50manage your finances, how you're going to get things, make life
- 13:55easier for you along the line. And at the end of the day,
- 13:59you're still going to actual drain, regardless of how you
- 14:01think. Okay.
- 14:02I am financially, okay, and he is financially, okay, you're
- 14:06going to have children. And along the line, you're going
- 14:09to struggle at some point, but if you don't have the, the issue
- 14:15of, you know, moving from house to house, then it's a bit
- 14:20easier. It it makes life much, much
- 14:24easier. So people should start
- 14:26rethinking certain things. Don't just have big wedding
- 14:29because everybody is having big weddings.
- 14:32Don't just think. Okay, my brother or my sister
- 14:36got married. And she hired 15 million whole
- 14:41me that is getting married right now.
- 14:43I want to hire a hundred million hole because I can do it.
- 14:48No, it's not a competition. Where what?
- 14:51I think that's the problem. People are always competing.
- 14:55You see somebody you they said, oh this person they are showing
- 14:58be is about 100,000 Nara and you're thinking our me, my own
- 15:04is going to be 200,000 error, but the You're imposing that on
- 15:09canvas. Can you afford it?
- 15:11Can your inner circle. Inner friends are follow those
- 15:15things, and if they cannot afford it, are you happy to to
- 15:19just work on them as friends and not just keep them out just
- 15:23because they cannot pay for your she be.
- 15:26So people should start thinking about things.
- 15:29I mean, if we talk about financial literacy, Financial
- 15:33intelligence financial management, it's not about What
- 15:37unique is it's not even about what you save.
- 15:41It's about how you put that money in.
- 15:44Use question is a very big wedding or baggage or house.
- 15:50Let's say you have a very, you know, financially stable.
- 15:53Your husband-to-be is not financially.
- 15:55Stable and somebody very generous donor, General sponsor
- 16:00tells you. I'm happy to sponsor your
- 16:03wedding. Am happy to give you this amount
- 16:05of money to spend for your wedding.
- 16:07Would you blow all that money on a wedding?
- 16:11And then, you know, starts trembling during the marriage?
- 16:14Or would you get a mortgage and make life easier for you when
- 16:20you get into that marriage? What would you do?
- 16:24Resist the urge to the Chalet resist the urge to Pepper people
- 16:30resist the urge to appear where Elijah life is too short.
- 16:35Make life easy for yourself. So what that is, more an
- 16:38opinion, I want to hear your opinion.
- 16:40What would you do if you're giving that option, which option
- 16:46would you take? So let me know in the comment
- 16:48section, please like like like share this video And subscribe
- 16:52to my channel and thank you very much for watching.
- 16:56Bye. Bye.
