- 0:00So many people especially in Houston, TX in the Bible Belt
- 0:03that love the Lord, they seek the Lord and then they go back
- 0:06to the office on Monday and for whatever reason, they either
- 0:09hide behind their faith or they honestly, they're not as strong
- 0:13in their faith walk that they just go.
- 0:15They compartmentalize. They don't let work in faith
- 0:17everything become this beautiful integration together of things.
- 0:21This is Virtuous Leaders, the podcast for based Catholics who
- 0:24will speak truth, do good, or die trying.
- 0:27Here's the show. You are the founder of Dad
- 0:35Voted, but tell us more more about that.
- 0:38Yeah, I mean, it's crazy. Dad voted for developing devoted
- 0:43dads. And honestly, you would have
- 0:46asked me four or five years ago. I I mean, I've always had this
- 0:48urge to like I marketing branding.
- 0:51I have a marketing major from Baylor, but I never had anything
- 0:54of my own. And, and honestly, this was
- 0:56revealed to me on day 40 of sobriety.
- 1:00Pretty cool. I was praying and I said, Lord,
- 1:02you told me to write this book. I have no clue.
- 1:05And it's going to well, you told me to write this book.
- 1:08It's going to help men and dads, but you never told me what to
- 1:11call it. What do you want to call this?
- 1:12And I heard the word dad voted and didn't know what it meant,
- 1:16looked it up. And then all of a sudden I'm
- 1:17buying it, buying a domain. And a week later I'm meeting
- 1:20with a trademark lawyer and setting up an LLC.
- 1:24And now I'm a couple years into a a ministry or mission for men
- 1:27and dads. How do you help dads?
- 1:31Yeah, man, that's great. The core of it is the core
- 1:34message is to be a better dad, you got to be a better man.
- 1:38And so it's really going at the heart of men.
- 1:41So I do that in a couple ways. I do that through through
- 1:43writing. I've written out two books.
- 1:45Dad voted his book one. Dad's devoted to discovering
- 1:48their duty, direction and destiny, and then wrote book 2
- 1:52it's which is a dad votional. So really, I know I want men to
- 1:55be able to read and and hear my journey and my story of my
- 1:58corporate, my struggles through alcohol, through other things.
- 2:02But then I do coach men. I coach men in fatherhood.
- 2:04I coach men in sobriety and I also do group coaching on like
- 2:07just strongholds. Who and what's holding you back?
- 2:11Is it addiction? Is it workaholism, right, That's
- 2:14approved this in in the world today.
- 2:17But I help, I look to help men and dads through that by
- 2:19uncovering their identity, locking in their purpose.
- 2:22And of course, it's 100% Kingdom focus on Christ.
- 2:26I, I sometimes try to not bring Jesus to the room, but it's just
- 2:30I can't do it without my story is just too powerful for them as
- 2:34well. So that's that's the heart of my
- 2:36coaching or my fatherhood ministry.
- 2:39And really it's just the basics. Dads, how are you showing up?
- 2:42There's so many really good dads, like there's the bad dads.
- 2:46We got the deserted dad way over here who's not even in the
- 2:48picture. And then you get into like this
- 2:50dad, this mission of dads that are, you know, actually towards
- 2:53the my 4th level of dad determined dad.
- 2:57They're good dads. They're coaching the football
- 2:59team, they're coaching the baseball team.
- 3:00They're home most nights of the week.
- 3:02They don't have any addictions or struggle, but the biggest
- 3:05thing they're missing is knowing the true heart of their child
- 3:09and knowing how to intentionally teach, train and coach them in
- 3:14in following following the Lord. That's that's the heart of of
- 3:17the mission. Give us top three tips for busy
- 3:21dads to take their dad game to the next level.
- 3:24Bro Top. Oh my goodness.
- 3:26Here's here. Alright, here we go.
- 3:28You caught me on a Monday. I've got plenty of coffee in me,
- 3:31thank thankfully. Family meals if you, there's
- 3:38like stats that say, I mean, you're, you're in the, you're,
- 3:40you're in therapy and counseling and helping people like the
- 3:43stats say something crazy. If you have 3 mils a week as a
- 3:47family, your kid, the likelihood of your kid suffering addiction.
- 3:51Oh my gosh, the stats just go on and on.
- 3:53I'm, I'm blanking here, but it's like 3 mils.
- 3:55So I just, how do we focus around having three mils a week?
- 3:59That's, that's a number one, when I tell people out of 21
- 4:02mils, 2nd is when you walk in the door, what do you do with
- 4:05that phone? Do you turn that phone off?
- 4:07I mean, if you look, if you're saving lives, I mean, come on,
- 4:09your phone has to be on. I'm sorry, but if you're just a
- 4:12corporate fella, turn that daggone phone off.
- 4:14You're not saving lives. Exxon Mobil will be there
- 4:17tomorrow. I know people cringe when I say
- 4:21that, but put up your phone and have that and say that prayer
- 4:24when you walk in says, Lord, help me to give my best now give
- 4:28me a new revitalized strength and revitalize energy.
- 4:33And then the the last thing is for busy dads book end your day.
- 4:36What are the 1st 15 minutes of the last 15 minutes of your day
- 4:39look like? And what does that are you to
- 4:41take care of yourself mentally, physically, spiritually,
- 4:43emotionally? Cause so I kind of do 5 minutes
- 4:45of stretching. I used to mean I do a lot more
- 4:48than 5 minutes of prayer and meditation, but just that
- 4:51meditation in prayer 5 minutes. Then scripture reading gratitude
- 4:55statements at the end of the day.
- 4:56What am I thankful for? I pray with my spouse.
- 4:58So I, I probably packed in about 9 things into your three there,
- 5:02my friend. But that's kind of what I say
- 5:04for for for busy dads, family meals, the bookends of your
- 5:08days, and then just that prayer as you walk in that intentional,
- 5:12intentional prayer. I love that.
- 5:15Anything else you want to say about Dad voted before we go to
- 5:17your most recent venture? Yeah, man, man, Dad, stop trying
- 5:22so much harder. You're already doing a good job.
- 5:25Just be intentional and focus on the heart of your children that
- 5:30they are seen and known and loved.
- 5:33Those are three three things. Second, yeah, I've got dad voted
- 5:36book number twos coming out soon.
- 5:38I've got it. Really buckle down.
- 5:39But you know, we're about duty, direction, destiny.
- 5:42The the next book will be about dominating darkness, defeating
- 5:46divorce, developing disciples. So it's more alliteration along
- 5:50along those days. But we're probably a couple
- 5:51months still out on that hitting the shelves.
- 5:55Oh man, that sounds, that sounds amazing.
- 5:56Hey, so I'm curious from a entrepreneurship perspective,
- 6:00just the other half of this podcast.
- 6:02So what what kind of traction are you getting on these, on
- 6:06these book sales and coaching and where do you want it to go?
- 6:09Man, it's up. It's it's up and down all
- 6:11around. Some days I get paid well, some
- 6:13days I don't. It's, it's, it's just a it's a
- 6:16tough battle. Sell book sells kind of do do
- 6:19this. I've had, I've had a struggle
- 6:22getting my book on audible because of I unfortunately
- 6:25trusted somebody who has not come through.
- 6:29I've recorded it and I so I know 50% of book sales come on
- 6:32audible. So I, you got to have an audible
- 6:35book from, from just that traction, that traction
- 6:37standpoint. Speaking has been good.
- 6:40Sometimes I speak and get paid a lot.
- 6:42Sometimes I speak and get paid nothing.
- 6:45So again, it's just building that roof.
- 6:46But what I tell people is stop chasing what every I mean, I've
- 6:51and I've done it. I pay the 150 bucks for this
- 6:53coach or coaching course. I pay 500 bucks for this guy.
- 6:56I pay 7000 for coaching for this.
- 6:58Some of that's needed. You need accountability, you
- 7:00need coaching, you need, but you can't at the end of the day, you
- 7:02have, you can't chase and compare yourself to people that
- 7:05are further along than you. Naturally with the entrepreneur.
- 7:10I, I have a business background and so I also have kind of the
- 7:14dad voted principles buttoned up in a, in a business consulting.
- 7:18That's not faith as faith-based. It's spiritual in nature about
- 7:21purpose and it's called the wealthy leader.
- 7:24So I've also starting to move into the business consulting
- 7:27side and speaking side as well to train, train leaders on how
- 7:31to be well, do well and live well.
- 7:33And again, all of them are kind of those principles of just
- 7:36life, just life principles. So I don't know if I answered
- 7:39your question. Basically I'm up down and all
- 7:41around. I depend daily on the Lord to
- 7:43provide. I'm grateful for this season
- 7:46that he gave me to. I made very good money for many
- 7:49years, paid my house off, did a lot of things that to get us
- 7:53into this position. My wife is went back to school
- 7:56to get her master's in counseling.
- 7:57So hello, y'all might need to have a conversation at some
- 8:00point. She's one more year in her
- 8:02program remaining and, and then and then all of a sudden, this
- 8:06C-Suite for Christ thing landed in my lap, which is a
- 8:10marketplace ministry. So I know I don't know if you've
- 8:12seen that on any of my postings, but I was praying for
- 8:15partnerships. I love being solo, but I, I
- 8:17thrive around people and I was praying, Lord, if there's a
- 8:20partnership you need me to be aware of, make it so.
- 8:23And I've got AI got a text from from Paul, the founder of
- 8:27C-Suite for Christ and I am launching the chapter of Houston
- 8:31chapter of C-Suite for Christ of marketplace ministry, 100%
- 8:35discipleship in the marketplace. So to say.
- 8:38All that is I have lots of streams of income that's kind of
- 8:41kind of diversified in in this approach.
- 8:45Yeah, C-Suite for Christ was the next thing I wanted to ask you
- 8:47about. So why should I join that?
- 8:50Yeah, look, it's the marketplace is fertile and I say that in a
- 8:53way as such. There's so many people
- 8:55especially in Houston, TX in the Bible Belt that love the Lord.
- 8:59They seek the Lord and then they go back to the office on Monday
- 9:02and and for whatever reason, they either hide behind their
- 9:05faith or they honestly they're not as strong in their faith
- 9:09walk that they just go. They compartmentalize.
- 9:11They don't let work in faith everything become this beautiful
- 9:14integration together of things, but it is cease to be for grace
- 9:19is not professional development. Now yes, we will have speakers
- 9:22every month that come and you're going to get a nugget of
- 9:24something it's not networking. Are you going to meet some
- 9:27people sure if you need a new roof and the guy next to you
- 9:29owns a roofing company by all means use him you trust him.
- 9:32It is 100% discipleship in the marketplace.
- 9:35How do leaders come to get refueled and then in turn can go
- 9:39back home is because home is most important and then back to
- 9:42the marketplace to share the love of Christ.
- 9:44And so that's the that's the premise behind it monthly
- 9:49gatherings, but also there will be prayer calls and other things
- 9:51that we do, but it's linking up with like minded believers to
- 9:55further our to increase our faith and to grow and and cover
- 9:58this great city in Christ. Second, how do we steward these
- 10:01resources? There's no look, I'll be the
- 10:03first to say there's a lot of good resources.
- 10:05I'm not saying come give it all to C-Suite for Christ, but man,
- 10:09if your passion is for fatherlessness, if your passion
- 10:12is for prison ministries, if your passion is for the
- 10:14trafficked, if your passion is is for homeless, like let's
- 10:18gather these local nonprofits that are faith-based and help
- 10:21boost them so that these business leaders in this amazing
- 10:25city are doing things to cover Houston and Christ.
- 10:29How do we end abortion? How do we stop?
- 10:31I mean, I think the stat said if everybody in my church, I go to
- 10:34woods edge, woods Woods Edge Community Church.
- 10:38If every member woods edge adopted one child that the in
- 10:42Montgomery County, we would there would be no more foster
- 10:45care needed. And I'll get that's a big ass.
- 10:47Not everybody's called to that, but I'm just saying that's one
- 10:49church on mission. So I believe the Kingdom can do
- 10:53a lot, a lot of things, and it starts with business owners
- 10:56based on just our influence as well as our resources.
- 11:00So what's the connection between nonprofits benefiting and
- 11:04C-Suite for Christ? I think it's more it's exposure,
- 11:08right? And you're getting, you're
- 11:09getting, you're going to hopefully be sitting in rooms of
- 11:13business leaders that are also Kingdom minded.
- 11:16So they want to give, they understand that they're, they
- 11:19want to see their dollars go further.
- 11:20Honestly, right. You, you give to there's some
- 11:23great non ministry missions out there, but what do you give 100
- 11:28bucks you'd like to see as much of 100 bucks go to that mission.
- 11:31And so I, I look at how do we help these local nonprofits in
- 11:35this area just get more exposure, get access to Kingdom
- 11:38fighting folks that are also business leaders who
- 11:41predominantly should have more resources.
- 11:44Doesn't always need to get, you know what I mean?
- 11:46Have they have a heart to give? Generosity flows and they would
- 11:49rather see generosity go towards Kingdom stuff than to a
- 11:53university or a a school. Which kid?
- 11:56Not bad things, but that's where a lot of that other funding goes
- 11:59to well. Hopefully not bad things.
- 12:02You can't really take that for granted anymore.
- 12:04You can't, absolutely. So how do you how do you get
- 12:08your speaking engagements for Dad voted?
- 12:11You know, it's hard like it's referral, man, Everything's
- 12:13referral word of mouth. I, I post areas of me speaking.
- 12:17I invite lots of folks. Churches are, are I've pursued
- 12:21lots of churches. Some want are open arms.
- 12:23Some are. It's just based on the church
- 12:25and that's nothing right, wrong or indifferent.
- 12:26They have to take a risk on me to to be in front of their their
- 12:30pulp. The mainly most of my speaking
- 12:31comes from just that word of mouth.
- 12:33I spoke Friday at an event and even while I spoke at that
- 12:37event, I had a church watching me speak, you know, live behind
- 12:42the scenes. And so I I then I just send out
- 12:45clips. I had lots of proposals.
- 12:47I get told more no today than I ever got told in my whole life,
- 12:50and that's OK. I I went to my prior thing on
- 12:52Friday. I spoke at as a inspired leaders
- 12:54here in the woodland and I just prayed.
- 12:56I said, Lord, if there's one person you need that you need to
- 12:59hear this message today. That's sufficient for me and
- 13:02man, what do you know? I give a business speech, but
- 13:05interwived, interweaved as my testimony in the Lord's hand.
- 13:08And after that I had a handful of people, but one guy said I
- 13:11literally was turning around to not come to this and I came I'm
- 13:15calling somebody to get today to get help.
- 13:18I have anger issues. It's it's influential.
- 13:20I'm going to call I'm calling my therapist today to get back in.
- 13:24I'm going to go see this person. I'm going to get help here.
- 13:25I'm going to start going to this ministry and it's like, that was
- 13:28why I needed to speak a gal I just got off the phone with
- 13:31today. She said, I've been praying to
- 13:32meet a person like you for two years that understands business,
- 13:36faith, work, all this stuff mixed in.
- 13:39So I look at that as you know what, that's that's the heart of
- 13:42the message. If that one person goes away
- 13:45fulfilled and changed with action with action, you can't
- 13:48just be emotionally feel good. Like I'm going to text this guy
- 13:51go. Did you call your therapist on
- 13:53Friday? Like you said, like that's that
- 13:55goes that's the coaching side of me, right?
- 13:57Tangible take away accountability.
- 14:00So yeah, if anybody listening needs a passionate speaker, I'll
- 14:03send you a link or two. Let's go so and.
- 14:06How do people find you, Kevin? Yeah, it's Linkedin's kind of my
- 14:09my source of where I stay and play.
- 14:11Just Kevin goodnight. Of course, Dad, voted.com,
- 14:14thewealthyleader.com and wealthy is spelled, well, WELLTHY.
- 14:20And that's kind of where I hang out.
- 14:21Of course. Come see us at C-Suite,
- 14:23September 18th, our first gathering.
- 14:25We will have one in The Woodlands and one in the
- 14:27Galleria area. So you're invited my friend.
- 14:30Please come. And it will will definitely link
- 14:34arms and just go to battle together.
- 14:36That's the heart of my mission and goal.
- 14:40Love it. Thank you.
- 14:42Yes, Sir. Thank you.
- 14:44Thanks for listening. Please like, subscribe and share
- 14:46with your friends. See you next time.
