- 0:00Tracy: Kiona and welcome to Constellations and all that.
- 0:03Tracy: I'm your host, Tracy Cartwright, and together we will be exploring the world of family constellations with facilitators for and clients from around the world, looking at different perspectives and experiences in the work, having a cup of tea, and just chatting with some friends around their experiences in constellations.
- 0:21Tracy: We'd love for you to join us.
- 0:23Tracy: I hope that you enjoy this series as much as I have loved making it.
- 0:30Tracy: Everyone, welcome to Constellations and all that.
- 0:33Tracy: Today I have the pleasure of chatting with Marico Schmidt Tower.
- 0:38Tracy: I think I've said that correctly.
- 0:40Tracy: Uh, we've had a little bit of practice with the rolling of the tongues just beforehand.
- 0:44Tracy: Um, welcome Marico.
- 0:46Mariko: Well, thank you, Tracy.
- 0:47Mariko: What a pleasure to be here.
- 0:48Mariko: Oh,
- 0:48Tracy: it's, it's been a while.
- 0:49Tracy: I've been, um, you and I have been in touch for quite a number of years now, and, and I keep, uh, oh.
- 0:54Tracy: I need to get you on my podcast.
- 0:55Tracy: I need to get you on my podcast.
- 0:56Tracy: So great to have you here.
- 0:57Tracy: Yeah,
- 0:58Mariko: thank you.
- 0:59Mariko: I'm looking forward to it.
- 1:01Mariko: And thank you for the work that you're doing, sharing, um, more about constellations through the podcast.
- 1:05Mariko: I find it very exciting.
- 1:07Tracy: Yeah.
- 1:07Tracy: Oh, you are welcome.
- 1:08Tracy: It's, it's really grown well beyond what I could have imagined when I first thought, oh, I'll do a podcast.
- 1:14Tracy: But that's how it usually rolls.
- 1:16Tracy: Hey?
- 1:17Tracy: Yep.
- 1:17Tracy: Yep.
- 1:18Tracy: Would you like to, um, introduce yourself where you're from, wave of Z sitting there for you?
- 1:25Mariko: What makes up my character quite a lot is my international upbringing.
- 1:28Mariko: So I was born in Hawaii to German and Austrian parents.
- 1:31Mariko: When I was two and a half, we moved to Greece.
- 1:34Mariko: After a couple years there, we moved to Germany and I went to an international school with kids from 40 different countries.
- 1:40Mariko: So really that international upbringing that just raised my curiosity for the people of the world and the different beliefs and cultures and backgrounds and, um.
- 1:50Mariko: I traveled a lot.
- 1:51Mariko: I had the opportunity with my parents to travel a lot around the world as well while growing up.
- 1:56Mariko: Then I followed the path that was told to be the appropriate, and I went to California and studied business and got a degree from the business school.
- 2:06Mariko: House, business school and worked in corporate for about 10 years, um, back in Europe.
- 2:10Mariko: Um, so back and forth too between Hawaii and California and Europe.
- 2:15Mariko: Worked in Europe and then realized I really wanted to help people in a different way.
- 2:18Mariko: Um, even though I was working in human resources or as project manager or as consultant, then at the end I really wanted to help people.
- 2:25Mariko: And so back in 2003, I decided to just.
- 2:28Mariko: Leave it behind and see what what magical journey I can is open to me.
- 2:32Mariko: And I've been blessed with some amazing experiences where I was invited back to the US to live with and work with a woman leading fire walks and breath work sessions and.
- 2:44Mariko: Sweat lodges and just then, then worked in nature awareness for four years and learned about the Native American traditions and mentoring, and I really appreciated all that.
- 2:56Mariko: Really working with people, their own inner stories, their developments, and uh, then in.
- 3:01Mariko: 2010, I came across, uh, Peter Deface, who is quite well known in our family Constellation mm-hmm.
- 3:08Mariko: Community.
- 3:09Mariko: And, um, we got along so well and, uh, he said, Hey, I have a training starting in a week.
- 3:15Mariko: I'd like to have you in the training.
- 3:16Mariko: And I said, oh, yes, that sounds exciting.
- 3:18Mariko: And so I um,
- 3:18Tracy: had you experienced it.
- 3:20Tracy: Or you just, I
- 3:21Mariko: had experienced it, um, in, in Germany already, um, with one of the first generation people who studied with Helga.
- 3:28Mariko: Um, his name was Pete.
- 3:29Mariko: Um, he's since passed and we had a, we had a whole weekend workshop, a big group of people, and I remember I was just blown away by that first experience back in Germany and, um, kind of like the end of my corporate career, just following that inner guidance that said.
- 3:46Mariko: Now go leave and something will happen.
- 3:49Mariko: And, and meeting people that invited me to join them for the firewalking, for the nature awareness for other things.
- 3:55Mariko: I, that's kind of how I was led back to Family Constellations.
- 3:59Mariko: Then I believe, um, where I sensed.
- 4:02Mariko: Ooh.
- 4:02Mariko: There was this, this thing that I had experienced, and even my spiritual teacher with the Firewalking community back then was saying, Marico, why don't you guide us through this constellation?
- 4:12Mariko: We need one for the group.
- 4:13Mariko: And I said, well, I'm, I'm, I, I haven't been trained yet.
- 4:16Mariko: And then it was two weeks later that I met.
- 4:17Mariko: Peter.
- 4:18Mariko: So, I
- 4:19Tracy: mean, it's just, it was all lining up, already waiting for you,
- 4:21Mariko: spirit lining up.
- 4:23Mariko: Yep, definitely.
- 4:24Mariko: And I really enjoyed that training.
- 4:26Mariko: It was a, a magical time and then getting to know other facilitators and finding my own in all this, and, uh, attending one of the conferences and.
- 4:37Mariko: Yeah, I'm drifting off on all these stories, but No, it's
- 4:40Tracy: great.
- 4:40Tracy: It's great.
- 4:41Tracy: That's what this is all about, you know?
- 4:42Tracy: It's, no, it's, it's whatever's there for you, whatever's sitting there and, yeah.
- 4:46Mariko: Yeah, so I'm so excited that I've been doing this now since, since 2011, so I've been facilitating different, different sessions.
- 4:53Mariko: I learned about individual sessions, which blew my mind at first.
- 4:56Mariko: I learned the traditional old way of.
- 4:58Mariko: We are looking at the family and, and in a group, and we have people to represent, to learn.
- 5:04Mariko: Wow, we don't, hmm, we don't need to, uh, to do this in a group.
- 5:07Mariko: We can do this as individuals as well.
- 5:09Mariko: We can, I can guide people, I can guide them from here in Hawaii.
- 5:13Mariko: I have some clients over in Europe and it's just, it's lovely to be able to use modern technology on the phone and, and be able to tap into the field from wherever you are.
- 5:24Tracy: Exactly.
- 5:24Tracy: Exactly.
- 5:25Tracy: I think that was one of the bonuses of COVID, right?
- 5:28Tracy: It made people realize, 'cause a lot of people were a little bit like, oh.
- 5:31Tracy: Don't know that I want to do this online.
- 5:32Tracy: It has to be in person.
- 5:33Tracy: Yeah.
- 5:34Tracy: Yeah.
- 5:34Tracy: I was already doing some stuff online.
- 5:36Tracy: Mm-hmm.
- 5:37Tracy: So, and I'd figured out, 'cause nobody taught me, I had to figure out how to do it myself.
- 5:40Tracy: Yeah.
- 5:41Tracy: And then suddenly, um, the world says, stay hurt.
- 5:46Tracy: Right.
- 5:47Tracy: All of a sudden I had lots of clients
- 5:49Mariko: online.
- 5:50Mariko: Yes, right.
- 5:51Mariko: I still do prefer working over the phone, which is interesting.
- 5:55Mariko: Um, I say that, um, it's kind of like reading a book.
- 5:59Mariko: Your mind is in a different space when you're, when you're looking at the screen, you're given an image and we're so visual beings.
- 6:07Mariko: Whereas if I'm reading, when I'm reading a book, my mind can go and imagine and put it into my own, something I can relate to maybe even more.
- 6:14Mariko: Mm-hmm.
- 6:14Mariko: And so I actually prefer working over the phone when I do individual sessions and, um, see really positive feedback for that.
- 6:21Mariko: I, I share everything that I'm feeling when I'm representing for people.
- 6:25Mariko: And I keep checking in with them.
- 6:27Mariko: And I think it, it was based though too on, um, part of my, my nature awareness, my four years we were training people in Europe over the phone.
- 6:35Mariko: We, I was translating from English to German.
- 6:38Mariko: We created sacred space.
- 6:39Mariko: We learned how to hold this space over the phone.
- 6:42Mariko: This was before, this was back in 2005.
- 6:45Mariko: We didn't have all this technology and Zoom and, and all that yet.
- 6:49Mariko: So I was quite comfortable with how we could connect across the world.
- 6:54Mariko: Um, just.
- 6:55Mariko: Buy that phone and, and there's something about feeling it more, which is kind of what Constellations is about in my experience.
- 7:03Mariko: It's dropping into the body.
- 7:04Mariko: It's that somatic experience out of your head, out of the, I need to figure it out.
- 7:10Mariko: So
- 7:11Tracy: beautiful.
- 7:12Tracy: Yeah.
- 7:12Tracy: It's definitely is that you can get your kid out of it and, and it's a felt experience.
- 7:17Tracy: Then there's whew.
- 7:18Tracy: So much more.
- 7:19Tracy: Right.
- 7:20Mariko: Yeah.
- 7:21Mariko: Yeah.
- 7:22Tracy: So much more to receive.
- 7:23Tracy: So you she about the far walking and.
- 7:26Tracy: The other things, do you incorporate that?
- 7:28Tracy: Have you ever you incorporated fire walking with your constellations?
- 7:32Mariko: Um, I have not actually.
- 7:33Mariko: That might be a nice, fun other next idea to hold a, a, a week or a week end workshop and integrate that in.
- 7:42Mariko: What I have integrated in is, um, in, in May of 2021, I started a training with Gabor Mate, um, with his psychotherapeutic approach called Compassion Inquiry.
- 7:51Mariko: And um, it's a beautiful blend in my experience of.
- 7:55Mariko: Various different modalities to bring people into more somatic, into more body awareness.
- 8:00Mariko: And it's a trauma informed approach.
- 8:02Mariko: So what is there?
- 8:03Mariko: And that has actually influenced my work quite a lot in the constellations.
- 8:08Tracy: Yeah, beautiful.
- 8:08Tracy: I remember, I remember having a session with you and that and just feeling so held and, and it was like I could completely just let go and that whole, you held such a beautiful space, so.
- 8:23Tracy: Thank you.
- 8:24Tracy: I have it written down here.
- 8:25Tracy: Compassionate Inquiry.
- 8:25Tracy: I was gonna ask you about that.
- 8:27Mariko: Yeah.
- 8:27Tracy: Yeah.
- 8:28Mariko: Well, compassionate Inquiry is, is so much about holding a safe place for a person to be able to dive back into that, which we have not completed processing yet.
- 8:39Mariko: So we talk about in that work, um, what, what triggers us, what, what.
- 8:44Mariko: And triggers a big word.
- 8:45Mariko: So what?
- 8:46Mariko: What just throws you off?
- 8:47Mariko: And it could be the smallest thing of somebody just cut me off in traffic and oh my gosh, this time it really irritated me.
- 8:54Mariko: And to feel into, well.
- 8:55Mariko: What, why?
- 8:56Mariko: What's coming up there?
- 8:57Mariko: Did it bring up something from the past, something that's unresolved yet?
- 9:01Mariko: And so to hold the safe space to allow yourself to drop in.
- 9:04Mariko: Wow, what's really, what am I still carrying?
- 9:07Mariko: What wants my attention if I'm feeling tension in my body?
- 9:10Mariko: I love how Garb Rush says it's calling for attention.
- 9:13Mariko: So, and to dive into that and that I bring into the Constellation work, I've learned when something comes up in representatives, when I'm working in groups or when even I'm doing individual sessions, when I check in with the client, oh, what's there?
- 9:26Mariko: Can we stay with it?
- 9:28Mariko: Can we be with what's there?
- 9:30Mariko: And help that emotional processing to happen.
- 9:33Tracy: Beautiful.
- 9:34Tracy: Yeah, because it's not easy to stay if you've, if it's.
- 9:39Tracy: Been something that you've bubbled that's bubbled up and you pushed it down and bubbled up and pushed it down, so.
- 9:44Tracy: Yeah, to have those skills.
- 9:45Tracy: It's beautiful.
- 9:46Mariko: Yeah.
- 9:47Mariko: I'm receiving that feedback more and more lately of, of working in the group sessions that everybody really benefits from being in that space and then to learn to stay with that, to be with what's coming up for their own sake as well as for the others.
- 10:01Mariko: And you've probably experienced this too, when you're working in groups of, I'm still in awe after all these years.
- 10:06Mariko: I am still so in awe of how exactly the right people show up.
- 10:10Mariko: Yes.
- 10:11Mariko: And they're asked to represent exactly the right role for themselves and the group and for the client.
- 10:17Mariko: Absolutely.
- 10:17Mariko: It's just mind
- 10:18Tracy: boggling.
- 10:19Tracy: Absolutely.
- 10:19Tracy: And, and it's not always that everybody's in this amazing, you know, heartfelt resonance.
- 10:24Tracy: Sometimes there's someone that's a little bit Oh yeah.
- 10:27Tracy: Squeaky wheel, or they're Oh yeah.
- 10:29Tracy: Little bit irritating to others in the group.
- 10:32Tracy: But as you go through, it's like they're the perfect, there's the perfect energies, the perfect catalysts.
- 10:36Tracy: And everybody, like you say, how.
- 10:39Tracy: The right people show up.
- 10:40Tracy: Right.
- 10:40Tracy: Yeah.
- 10:40Tracy: And then I think this work really allows that we can, in a very short period of time, we can, um, hold such a different space for someone.
- 10:50Mariko: Yes.
- 10:51Mariko: Yeah.
- 10:51Mariko: When you
- 10:51Tracy: can, when you get to, to experience or to resonate or to witness the process.
- 10:56Mariko: Yes.
- 10:56Mariko: Right.
- 10:57Mariko: And I think that's where the real healing happens, is in that witnessing is in that being held.
- 11:04Mariko: And that's where my.
- 11:05Mariko: Trauma-informed coaching comes in.
- 11:06Mariko: It's, it's, I do believe, I see it time and time again of how clients were finally able to go to those moments that we shut off, we shut away, we pushed aside.
- 11:15Mariko: And don't we say that so often in Constellation work too.
- 11:18Mariko: It's, it's that unconscious.
- 11:20Mariko: It's the secret.
- 11:21Mariko: It's the, that's draining our energy because we're keeping.
- 11:25Mariko: We're, we're keeping it hidden and once it can come to surface and find its place, then one person is no longer burdened by it and the energy drain stops and then we're freed to live our own lives more.
- 11:38Tracy: Yeah.
- 11:38Tracy: You just got me thinking about a piece of work I did recently around something that had run through.
- 11:43Tracy: I was third, I was actually the second generation that I've known of, and then my, that it's coming through my daughter and now it's gone to my grandson.
- 11:49Tracy: And what showed up was, was something that was like the elephant in the room, something that was never spoken about.
- 11:54Tracy: And the relief that my system felt, and it actually went behind my mum.
- 12:00Tracy: It was another generation behind.
- 12:01Tracy: But yeah, just allowing it to show up without having to have great big story or drama or anything like that.
- 12:08Tracy: Just allowing what needed to be seen.
- 12:10Tracy: Things could shift.
- 12:11Tracy: And
- 12:11Mariko: I do believe that the fear is the greatest.
- 12:15Mariko: It's like it builds it even up more.
- 12:17Mariko: It's that fear of what.
- 12:19Mariko: I can't, I don't know how to handle it.
- 12:21Mariko: We don't know how to handle it as a family or if it goes back generations.
- 12:25Mariko: And so by being able to, to have a look at it, mm, because it could come a fear
- 12:29Tracy: or shame or guilt, or.
- 12:31Mariko: Right, right.
- 12:31Mariko: Any emotion.
- 12:32Mariko: Yeah.
- 12:33Tracy: Yeah.
- 12:33Tracy: Any of those things, but it's
- 12:35Mariko: the, the fear of having that, whatever, shame, grief.
- 12:38Mariko: Yeah.
- 12:39Mariko: So I really enjoy holding joy.
- 12:40Mariko: Maybe that's the wrong word, but I do it, it, it feels so healing to hold that safe space for it all to come up.
- 12:48Mariko: And I've had a few groups where luckily I was in the correct, in a good location where we could let out a scream and where it was kind of the, oh no, oh no, the anger, ah, I should hold it down.
- 12:59Mariko: And, and once.
- 13:00Mariko: We encouraged and we knew the person could just scream.
- 13:03Mariko: Everybody else though, realized that was so clean.
- 13:06Mariko: It was so pure.
- 13:07Mariko: It was so true.
- 13:08Mariko: It wasn't, it wasn't directed towards somebody or towards a self.
- 13:12Mariko: It was just an expression of energy and it was actually okay.
- 13:16Tracy: Isn't that interesting how we we're, um, a society and over generations, excuse me, we are taught to dial it down.
- 13:24Tracy: Dial it down.
- 13:25Tracy: Yes.
- 13:25Tracy: Right.
- 13:25Tracy: Keep that suppressed.
- 13:27Tracy: Don't make noise.
- 13:28Tracy: The neighbors might hear you.
- 13:30Tracy: I'm practicing the art of making lots of sound 'cause I've had a journey with that as well.
- 13:35Tracy: And, and I said to my husband,'cause I had a little workshop, a small workshop here recently.
- 13:41Tracy: I said, oh, you know, it might make some funny sounds, honey.
- 13:43Tracy: And he goes.
- 13:44Tracy: You make them all the time.
- 13:45Tracy: It's okay.
- 13:46Mariko: I love it.
- 13:46Mariko: Oh,
- 13:47Tracy: wonderful.
- 13:47Tracy: To have that shower and I'll just start sounding, or I'm walking around and suddenly there's a, like sound that wants to come outta me, so I let it happen, or I'll grab a drum and I'll, you know.
- 13:58Mariko: Yeah.
- 13:58Mariko: It's like
- 13:58Tracy: you
- 13:58Mariko: do
- 13:59Tracy: it all
- 13:59Mariko: the time, so
- 13:59Tracy: it's okay.
- 14:00Mariko: In one of my constellations, not, not too long ago, I, my drum was like, I. Just play me.
- 14:06Mariko: So yeah, I'm just like, okay, we're starting to play the drum here and uh, yeah.
- 14:11Mariko: And it allowed some energy to move and shift.
- 14:13Mariko: It was beautiful.
- 14:14Tracy: Yeah.
- 14:14Tracy: So good, aren't they the different tools?
- 14:15Tracy: Yeah.
- 14:16Mariko: Different tools.
- 14:17Mariko: Yep.
- 14:17Tracy: So, uh, normally one of the questions is I ask how did Constellations find you?
- 14:21Tracy: But you've shared that.
- 14:22Tracy: Yes.
- 14:22Tracy: Um, is there anything that you wanted to add to that?
- 14:26Tracy: I think it does find us.
- 14:28Mariko: Yes.
- 14:28Mariko: Yeah, it does find us.
- 14:30Mariko: Yeah.
- 14:30Mariko: I mean even, even the first experience I had in Germany, I was still working in the corporate world and I was just starting to, there must be more out there and then finding that, and then it, it stayed, the residents, a residue of that stayed with me over all the years until it was just time of, and it was multiple things.
- 14:47Mariko: It was beautiful.
- 14:48Mariko: I think I picked up a novel on my flight and I was reading it and a constellation came up in there and then my spiritual teacher had mentioned it, and then there, there were multiple things.
- 14:57Mariko: And so I just thought, okay, I'm gonna have to, I just, who's in this area?
- 15:02Mariko: Who could I work with?
- 15:03Mariko: And, uh, I was guided to the right person.
- 15:05Mariko: I really jade working with Peter Drees.
- 15:06Mariko: He's, he's so open and, and has had experiences with so many different, uh, styles.
- 15:14Mariko: So he brought that into the training, which is what I really appreciate.
- 15:18Mariko: And everybody's different.
- 15:19Mariko: I mean, some have their, this, this is the way to do it.
- 15:22Mariko: And he was very open about that and I really enjoyed that, that we could, uh, he had met, I'm trying to remember the name.
- 15:29Mariko: I think it was Chris who brought out, um, walking in Your Shoes at that time.
- 15:34Mariko: And they introduced us to that.
- 15:35Mariko: Um, we held business constellations.
- 15:38Mariko: We held personal, we held the individual, we held.
- 15:42Mariko: And so we, we did this training over, um, we did two trainings over.
- 15:46Mariko: 13 months, I think, or, or over a year.
- 15:49Mariko: Um, it's a beautiful time to spend.
- 15:51Mariko: And I was so fortunate and gifted that the, he had trained a group and he said, let me train this group that I was in, and then we'll do a follow up for all of you.
- 16:00Mariko: And they wanted to keep it up.
- 16:02Mariko: And one of the, the women had her, her office space for practice space, and she said, well, once a week just come and, and you guys come as well and we can just.
- 16:10Mariko: Play, we can try this out.
- 16:12Mariko: And so on top of the training I had once a week, we just, we'd try everything we could think of with people who had been trained.
- 16:19Mariko: So we knew what kind of we were doing and we said, is there anything we can think of?
- 16:23Mariko: And I just, I love that exploration.
- 16:25Mariko: Oh, have we?
- 16:26Mariko: How about from conception to birth?
- 16:28Mariko: Hmm.
- 16:28Mariko: That would be an interesting constellation.
- 16:30Mariko: Mm-hmm.
- 16:30Mariko: How about, you know, we'd, we'd try all kinds of things and so over the years I've been so open.
- 16:35Mariko: That has also influenced my, my, uh, constellations.
- 16:39Mariko: I, I still do that.
- 16:40Mariko: I feel so comfortable in the field.
- 16:42Mariko: I talk with my clients and wow, I've never considered that one.
- 16:45Mariko: Are you, do you wanna try it?
- 16:46Mariko: Let's go.
- 16:47Mariko: Let's, let's see.
- 16:48Mariko: What will the field will show us if, I mean, I've held multiple about I wanna sell my house and the house won't sell, or the inherited house from the parents.
- 16:57Mariko: What needs to be finished or completed?
- 16:59Mariko: What energies are there?
- 17:01Mariko: So we've, we've looked at so many various different aspects of constellations.
- 17:06Mariko: Yeah.
- 17:07Mariko: I, I really love that.
- 17:09Mariko: And in, there's such a variety,
- 17:10Tracy: isn't there?
- 17:11Tracy: Yeah.
- 17:11Tracy: And, and I've been in situations where some people that I've met have Right.
- 17:16Tracy: Been really, really, um, loyal to the original structure of Constellations.
- 17:22Tracy: Mm-hmm.
- 17:22Tracy: And that is the only way.
- 17:24Tracy: But even Heer himself evolved and grew beyond that.
- 17:27Tracy: He did.
- 17:28Tracy: Yes.
- 17:29Mariko: Yeah.
- 17:29Tracy: There is so much to it.
- 17:30Tracy: And my understanding is that his, his wishes were for people to take the bones of the work.
- 17:35Tracy: And to incorporate their own, um, uniqueness and their gifts into it as well.
- 17:42Tracy: And it will morph and evolve with you.
- 17:44Tracy: Um, yeah.
- 17:45Tracy: So I, as a trainer, I'm trying to teach my, um, students the bones.
- 17:49Tracy: Mm-hmm.
- 17:50Tracy: So it does feel a little bit like, you know, like, you're getting this, this is how it is.
- 17:54Tracy: I'm teaching you this so that you can.
- 17:56Tracy: Do something else with it.
- 17:58Tracy: Exactly,
- 17:59Mariko: yes.
- 17:59Mariko: Yeah.
- 17:59Mariko: Yeah.
- 18:00Mariko: And, and those bones are very important.
- 18:03Mariko: I think we, we do need the foundation.
- 18:05Mariko: We do need the structure, but as in any ceremony, I was just reminded of attending a sweat lodge ceremony and, and Gilbert walking bowl saying, you know, it's just people are asking him, and, and so how do I do this?
- 18:17Mariko: And what and why?
- 18:18Mariko: And it's like, don't get lost in the, it has to be A, B, C, D, but understand that.
- 18:23Mariko: Somewhere in the flow, include them in, and maybe it's a DCB, or, you know, allow the flow, be present, be open, and how do we teach that to others when you're in, in facilitator training.
- 18:35Mariko: But it's that, you know, understanding as you said, the bones, but then allowing spirit to come in and, and let's try something and yeah, I, I need to create that safe container.
- 18:47Mariko: For sure and make sure that everybody has the balance, that we're not losing somebody that, that everybody's safe in that container.
- 18:55Mariko: And then also releasing the container at the end.
- 18:57Mariko: I mean, those are things that are very important to me as well, that I've come across some facilitators I've seen.
- 19:02Mariko: They maybe because of my more.
- 19:04Mariko: Ceremonial background, but understanding how important it's to close off the space at the end.
- 19:09Mariko: To release the roles, to release the, the energies that have come in to serve us in gratitude.
- 19:15Mariko: And I think that's a part, an important part of this.
- 19:18Mariko: And when there are challenges, I believe it's because those weren't respected, that somebody.
- 19:24Mariko: Takes carrying a role and takes it along with them and does not release.
- 19:29Mariko: And so there's, there's certain guidelines that are very important to, to stay by and, and that there's a safe space that I think is, is really key.
- 19:38Tracy: How do you feel about some ti, some facilitators talk about when someone still feels like connected to a constellation and they're representing that there is something in that for them as well.
- 19:51Mariko: Yes, I do believe, as I said, I'm in awe that exactly the person receives the role that is important to them.
- 19:59Mariko: And yet I don't want to send off somebody who has an active trigger, an active trauma.
- 20:06Mariko: But even when I do my trauma informed approaches, my my sessions, I will find a good closing, a place where a person can.
- 20:14Mariko: Go back out into the world of the everyday life and, and not be agitated or, or, or triggered from that experience.
- 20:23Mariko: And that's what I meant with releasing the role.
- 20:26Mariko: And yes, it might be something for them.
- 20:28Mariko: And that brings me to actually, I find it important to actually follow up with my, with my clients, or at least let them know that if something comes up, they can reach out to me or reach out to other people that there might be more support needed and welcomed.
- 20:42Mariko: I mean, not as a need, but as a, it's, it's all right.
- 20:45Mariko: This is good.
- 20:46Mariko: Yeah.
- 20:46Mariko: It might be bringing up something for you, for you to look at and know that you're not alone with this.
- 20:52Mariko: Yeah.
- 20:52Mariko: Either go to me or go to, to your therapist or another friend that you have, or somebody that you can trust and help you process what's coming up.
- 21:00Tracy: Exactly.
- 21:01Tracy: 'cause it's not necessarily one and done is it?
- 21:03Mariko: No.
- 21:05Mariko: I keep hearing from a lot of the people that are like, well, I'm still processing that one from,
- 21:09Tracy: yeah.
- 21:10Tracy: Yeah.
- 21:10Tracy: I had that with with a Constellation.
- 21:12Tracy: I did 20, 19 and fourth.
- 21:16Tracy: Oh yes.
- 21:17Tracy: Every now and then something would happen and I'd be like, yep.
- 21:19Tracy: Oh, this is this's another part of that process.
- 21:21Tracy: There's another layer in there.
- 21:23Tracy: Okay.
- 21:23Mariko: Yes.
- 21:24Tracy: Yeah.
- 21:24Tracy: Right, right.
- 21:25Tracy: Maybe
- 21:26Mariko: this is big, deep work.
- 21:27Mariko: I mean, it's, it's not just a little dabble in and watch a movie and, oh, the movie was interesting.
- 21:32Mariko: It's, it's really shifting something, which is the change, and we, we yearn for that.
- 21:38Mariko: We want it, and it can be scary, so it's good to know that there's support.
- 21:42Mariko: To help integrate and process the experience.
- 21:45Mariko: Absolutely.
- 21:45Tracy: Absolutely.
- 21:46Tracy: Do you have a timeframe that you say to people, okay, so you did a constellation and you can't do another one for at least.
- 21:55Mariko: Oh mm. Six months.
- 21:58Mariko: No, no, I actually don't.
- 22:00Mariko: Um, I tell them that usually it's, it's one in a rare, it doesn't happen often, but at some points it feels like we're at a point where an opportunity, like a door is about to open, but we just, it's not the right time yet to open it.
- 22:15Mariko: And so I let them know that, you know.
- 22:17Mariko: When you feel that, then let's do the next step.
- 22:20Mariko: So it might be in a week, it might take longer.
- 22:23Mariko: It might take yet another one.
- 22:25Mariko: Um, usually I work to a point of what I like to call resolution though, where it's really like, okay, I'm, I'm comfortable with this and I know that even if I'm not able to take the step yet, I see my path is now clear and I'm going to give it time.
- 22:40Mariko: Um, but no, I've, I've.
- 22:41Mariko: I don't believe I've ever told anybody.
- 22:43Mariko: I don't, don't do another one.
- 22:46Tracy: No.
- 22:46Tracy: So generally, so I will say to someone, give it a month to integrate before you come.
- 22:50Tracy: Oh yeah.
- 22:51Tracy: Okay.
- 22:51Tracy: Because they're like, can I come back again?
- 22:52Tracy: This was so cool.
- 22:53Tracy: And I'm like, yeah, but if, and then again, 'cause everyone's unique, right?
- 22:57Tracy: So sometimes there'll be someone that is really in weak 'cause the there is something big assets come up, so.
- 23:02Tracy: Right,
- 23:03Mariko: exactly.
- 23:03Tracy: It's like generally, I'd say a month, but occasionally.
- 23:06Tracy: And then gotta be careful of the ones who become hooked on it.
- 23:10Tracy: And they go from Yes.
- 23:11Tracy: Facilitator to facilitator to facilitator.
- 23:13Tracy: Right, right.
- 23:15Tracy: And, and, uh, had that, um, and the lady wasn't, she never shared with me that she was going to see another facilitator.
- 23:22Tracy: So she, she came to me and then a month later, oh.
- 23:26Tracy: 'cause I'd said to her she could only come once a month.
- 23:27Tracy: So in the, in the middle of that, she was coming to this other facilitator.
- 23:31Tracy: Yeah.
- 23:31Tracy: And so to both of us, she looked like she was doing, you know, I only come in once a month.
- 23:35Tracy: That's right.
- 23:36Tracy: Right.
- 23:36Tracy: But she ended up having quite a, um.
- 23:39Tracy: An overwhelming experience because it was so much, yeah.
- 23:42Tracy: It wasn't having the chance to integrate.
- 23:44Tracy: So
- 23:45Mariko: I do explain that integration time is, is important.
- 23:48Mariko: Um, we need that time, we need the downtime.
- 23:51Mariko: We need to give the body a chance to catch up.
- 23:53Mariko: We need, so too much work in any shape or form, though I believe.
- 23:59Mariko: It doesn't have to be just constellations, but if, if you're doing too much of something, and then again, I know how my, my intellect worked to override certain things, so I've learned that.
- 24:10Mariko: But doing three things different like a massage and a constellation and a something at the same time will help override my, my mind, my intellect.
- 24:21Mariko: Beautiful.
- 24:21Mariko: Yeah.
- 24:21Mariko: So people are different.
- 24:23Mariko: And I'm thinking too of, um, you know, being a representative in a constellation is so powerful.
- 24:30Mariko: And when I hold a weekend workshop, let's say then, and we're having, I don't know, eight constellations or more.
- 24:37Mariko: That's having more than just one.
- 24:40Mariko: And I remember my last trip to California, we did one weekend workshop.
- 24:44Mariko: So I had one participant for both days.
- 24:47Mariko: And then I had another workshop the following weekend with a different group of people.
- 24:51Mariko: And um, one of them said, but I wanna do some more.
- 24:53Mariko: And she came to that second weekend as well, only received a con, one constellation for herself, but I think every role that people are in.
- 25:02Mariko: But then again, she also had done a lot of work before.
- 25:05Mariko: Um, she was trained in a different modality, but so I felt like she was ready for, for this.
- 25:12Tracy: Yeah, exactly.
- 25:12Tracy: Yeah.
- 25:12Tracy: The individuals, isn't it?
- 25:14Tracy: Yeah.
- 25:15Tracy: I had, um, someone that I, that I know very well, and she found it really hard personally to let the energy in, to let just the energy of the, as a representative.
- 25:27Tracy: And, and so what it would do was that she would shake and, and it was almost like.
- 25:33Tracy: Pushing water up upstream when it's trying to go downstream, you know, like, so there's a thing happening to her and she killed and she had this story around'cause from her religious background.
- 25:44Tracy: And um, and I ended up saying to her, look, I after while I said, look, you can't come until you've done some work on Yeah.
- 25:53Tracy: On another level on, because you're actually, yes, you're actually, um, scaring by other clients.
- 25:58Tracy: Yeah.
- 25:59Tracy: And, and I really, I promised you that I would make sure that you were okay.
- 26:02Tracy: You know, that's part of my Yeah, right.
- 26:05Tracy: Role as a facilitator, so, right.
- 26:07Tracy: So I invited her to go and do like a, a spiritual development course and yeah, and some energy work, like go and learn reiki or, or something.
- 26:16Tracy: The energy can move through you.
- 26:18Tracy: And so she did that.
- 26:19Tracy: She went and it was about a year, maybe even longer, I think in a year, she had messaged me and said, I've done, I've been doing this.
- 26:25Tracy: Do you think I could come back now?
- 26:27Tracy: And I was like, I tuned in.
- 26:28Tracy: I got a definite no.
- 26:30Tracy: I said no, a little bit, a bit longer.
- 26:31Tracy: Wow.
- 26:31Tracy: And so I think six months later she messaged me again and I was like, yeah, this feels good.
- 26:37Tracy: Yeah.
- 26:37Tracy: And so she came back and she had, she had, she bought some pen and paper so that when, as even as a witness, if the energy was too strong, she'd just let the pen run around on the page.
- 26:47Tracy: And that just dissipated the, the energy.
- 26:50Tracy: And, uh, yeah, she was much more able to, um, yeah, to represent and, yeah.
- 26:57Tracy: Yeah, it was great.
- 26:59Tracy: And it was also, I think that is so important for me too, because it was, I to say to someone, sorry, but you can't come, which was really big.
- 27:06Tracy: So really grateful for that experience and that opportunity that she gave me.
- 27:10Mariko: I think it's so important for us as facilitators, it it is that creating that safe space, watching out for individuals, and that might mean stepping up and saying, no, not really.
- 27:20Mariko: Or, or, or recommending some other work and, and checking
- 27:24Tracy: in.
- 27:24Mariko: Yeah.
- 27:24Mariko: Yeah.
- 27:24Mariko: And even,
- 27:25Tracy: even as a representative, I think sometimes, sometimes I've been able to say, um, I'm gonna invite you to sit.
- 27:30Tracy: Yeah, not sure.
- 27:31Tracy: Like there's a feeling that there's a little bit of their own, a lot of their own stuff that's running the show.
- 27:36Tracy: Right, right.
- 27:37Tracy: Or it's just not quite resonating and it's like you invite you to sit down.
- 27:41Tracy: Maybe there's another role for
- 27:43Mariko: you.
- 27:43Mariko: Yeah.
- 27:43Mariko: Yeah.
- 27:43Mariko: Well, yeah, I think that's important then.
- 27:46Mariko: And to me, I've learned that it's actually the individual work that I've done that has helped me.
- 27:51Mariko: So when I guide.
- 27:52Mariko: The, the group, I can tap into the individual roles because I'm so used to also doing the individual constellations so that I can see how much is appropriate, how much, and, and I have such a, a confidence in that now that I can allow it to flow a little bit more.
- 28:08Mariko: I used to guide more of what to say or using the healing statements.
- 28:14Mariko: Um, and now I can, I can sense of, and I give suggestions and put it in your own words though, and allow that to flow much more easily.
- 28:22Mariko: And it seems to bring in a, a beautiful dynamic of, of, uh, empowering the people in their roles, that they are really learning what is going on.
- 28:30Mariko: They're observing their bodies there.
- 28:33Mariko: That's, it's such a gift, I believe, to be a representative too.
- 28:37Mariko: And sometimes I've get gotten the feedback that people say being the representative was actually even more powerful experience for them than receiving the Constellation.
- 28:45Mariko: Yes,
- 28:46Tracy: yep.
- 28:46Tracy: And witnessing sometimes too.
- 28:48Mariko: And the witnessing.
- 28:49Mariko: Yeah, exactly.
- 28:51Mariko: Exactly.
- 28:52Mariko: Yep.
- 28:53Mariko: And it's such a, it's a felt experience though.
- 28:56Mariko: I mean, one of my favorite examples now was one woman from a a weekend workshop in this one role, and she found herself just.
- 29:03Mariko: No, wait, wait, no.
- 29:04Mariko: Okay.
- 29:04Mariko: Okay.
- 29:05Mariko: No, I feel called.
- 29:06Mariko: No, you have to.
- 29:07Mariko: Okay.
- 29:07Mariko: And so she's doing all this guidance and, and, um, at the end we revealed what she was and she didn't know.
- 29:14Mariko: And, and I love working in all kinds of realms.
- 29:16Mariko: So.
- 29:17Mariko: She's like, oh, okay.
- 29:18Mariko: What was this?
- 29:19Mariko: Well, you were healthy boundaries.
- 29:21Mariko: Oh my gosh.
- 29:22Mariko: For years I've been trying to understand with my mind how to set healthy boundaries, but here I held this role that for an hour I'm I'm, and now embodied it.
- 29:32Mariko: Yeah.
- 29:33Mariko: Beautiful.
- 29:33Mariko: I get it.
- 29:34Mariko: It was so powerful.
- 29:35Mariko: It was beautiful to witness and, and what a gift where.
- 29:39Mariko: Yeah.
- 29:40Mariko: Yeah.
- 29:41Mariko: When you work in those realms.
- 29:42Mariko: So I love working with like healthy boundaries or just particular emotions or can you be grief or, and it turns out to be so different and, and to, to have that expression and, and people learn a different relationship to whatever it might be.
- 29:58Mariko: The emotions, the healthy boundaries, the, yeah.
- 30:03Mariko: Or a chronic illness.
- 30:04Mariko: It's fascinating to look at if it might be giving a message, having a powerful message for a person, or just needing to be somewhere in the family system and finding its place.
- 30:14Mariko: There's just so much that comes to surface that is fascinating.
- 30:18Tracy: Can I ask, and you can say No, that's absolutely fine.
- 30:21Tracy: Is there any examples that you've got that you can think of without obviously.
- 30:25Tracy: No one's, um, personal details, but mm-hmm.
- 30:28Tracy: Right.
- 30:28Tracy: Um, examples of maybe a chronic illness or something that you've seen, you've either represented or you've facilitated that you feel like it would be great to share because we love to hear these stories.
- 30:39Mariko: Yes.
- 30:40Mariko: Yeah.
- 30:40Mariko: But yeah, I, I always love examples too.
- 30:42Mariko: It brings it to life.
- 30:45Mariko: Let's see.
- 30:45Mariko: Um, illness, there was one, I'm trying to remember the details of it.
- 30:50Mariko: We had two in one day, which was interesting for a workshop that had just happened to come up, and they, they unfolded so differently, which was fascinating, intriguing to me, where one was the illness actually really wanted to raise awareness to a.
- 31:04Mariko: It, it was a helper.
- 31:05Mariko: It was a protector.
- 31:06Mariko: It was trying to raise a person's awareness to a, um, needing to change a relationship.
- 31:14Mariko: This relationship is not healthy for me, and by having the illness, the focus shifted away and was being cared for.
- 31:21Mariko: But the more attention that came then to the person realizing this relationship isn't healthy for me.
- 31:29Mariko: The more the illness could just dissipate.
- 31:31Mariko: And at some point even stepped out of the circle and said, well, I'm no longer needed here.
- 31:35Mariko: And then that same day we had another one where the illness had come in and it was a, it was a lineage.
- 31:41Mariko: Um, it seemed to be going back multiple generations of similar issues that had come up and.
- 31:50Mariko: Um, what was beautiful to realize there was no, I'm not ready to go.
- 31:54Mariko: I don't, I I'm not meant to leave.
- 31:56Mariko: I'm meant to stay here.
- 31:57Mariko: I, I belong to this family.
- 31:59Mariko: I, I am, I have my place here.
- 32:01Mariko: So, to honor, sometimes to honor a, um, an experience, uh, sadly, I, I can't remember all the, the details of that particular constellation, but it was kind of like honoring the loss, the death over generations, through wars, through genocides, through, through different things that happened and.
- 32:18Mariko: Yet by acknowledging it, it could stay in the family system and didn't have to be attached to the one person who was having physical ailments caused by that.
- 32:27Mariko: Then
- 32:28Tracy: yeah, the overwhelm of not looking at it, isn't it?
- 32:32Tracy: Like I shared with what was showed up from in my family system recently that the elephant in the room I called it
- 32:39Mariko: Yes.
- 32:39Mariko: Yeah.
- 32:40Tracy: That wasn't being looked at, um, generations behind me and it just flowed on down through the system.
- 32:46Mariko: Those are powerful.
- 32:47Mariko: I, I had one client who came in and she had found out while clearing her family's estate.
- 32:54Mariko: That it was actually her.
- 32:56Mariko: What would that be?
- 32:56Mariko: So her grandmother's sister so removed, but in the past, but that there had been some bigger issue and she had ended up in, in a medical institution, but it never was talked about.
- 33:09Mariko: It was always kept quiet and we, we represented the whole situation and it was heart wrenching that it was a, I think they were five siblings.
- 33:19Mariko: And it was a time where it was embarrassing.
- 33:22Mariko: It was you if one of your people, you know, one of your was crazy.
- 33:26Mariko: Oh my gosh.
- 33:27Mariko: And so they had to just give her up, so to say, and place her in this institution and the name.
- 33:33Mariko: Was disappeared out of their history, but how all of the siblings and the parents had carried this burden and then that passed down to her generation and she now has children and or or her siblings have children.
- 33:47Mariko: And so over the generations, it was carried.
- 33:50Mariko: And to bring that to light and acknowledge this.
- 33:55Mariko: Grand aunt, I don't know how to relate to her anyway, but, um, from the past and give her like this acknowledgement that the mother had been heartbroken to have to give her up, that affected the other siblings because she wasn't really present with them.
- 34:08Mariko: The other siblings were embarrassed, didn't wanna look there, um, were mad at her getting the attention.
- 34:17Mariko: I mean, all these different dynamics that had showed up, it was just.
- 34:21Mariko: Intriguing.
- 34:21Mariko: And then to see the resolution of them coming together and placing them in the orders of love as, as beheading would say it, so in the correct order, and giving them the place and how all of a sudden it just felt, so there's a flow now there's a release happening here.
- 34:36Mariko: This, this is the truth, this is how it should be.
- 34:40Mariko: Yeah.
- 34:41Tracy: That's beautiful.
- 34:42Tracy: Yeah, because there is, because often, you know, in a situation like that, there's a. There's not space for you to be angry.
- 34:49Tracy: I'm angry that my mother's not looking at me because she's so busy focused on the one who's wrong.
- 34:54Tracy: Right, right.
- 34:55Tracy: So you don't have that expression or the opportunity to have that expression.
- 34:59Tracy: Right.
- 35:00Mariko: Yeah.
- 35:02Mariko: Absolute.
- 35:02Mariko: Acknowledging as human being
- 35:03Tracy: something, sometimes we can,
- 35:04Mariko: oh my goodness.
- 35:05Mariko: Yes.
- 35:07Tracy: Afraid we could take it from animals and shake it off a whole lot easier.
- 35:11Mariko: Well, that is one thing that I was taught of, of trauma release exercises, TRE.
- 35:15Mariko: But
- 35:15Tracy: yeah,
- 35:16Mariko: it doesn't quite work that way, like in the animal kingdom.
- 35:18Mariko: But I remind myself of that after just, ah, yeah, dance it off.
- 35:22Mariko: I love trauma
- 35:22Tracy: release exercise.
- 35:23Tracy: That was, has been really good.
- 35:25Tracy: And then a friend of mine.
- 35:26Tracy: They started, I think, called Shaking Medicine.
- 35:28Tracy: Mm.
- 35:29Mariko: Yeah.
- 35:29Tracy: Which is, which is lovely as well.
- 35:31Mariko: Yeah.
- 35:32Mariko: And five rhythms dance.
- 35:33Mariko: I've always appreciated that.
- 35:35Mariko: Just to be able to express your different emotions through different rhythms.
- 35:40Mariko: And, and dancing that out.
- 35:42Mariko: So how much movement actually helps.
- 35:45Mariko: And, and I bring that into the constellations too, when we do groups of allowing the movement to happen, encouraging the move around the room, or there was one that was beautiful.
- 35:54Mariko: It was more of a, I had one client who said, does it always have to be looking at something that's in our way and blocking or, or negative or frustrating?
- 36:02Mariko: It's like I wanted to see all the gifts I was given from my ancestors and how I can carry this forward.
- 36:07Mariko: And they ended up all.
- 36:10Mariko: Oh, I feel, I feel like I'm flying.
- 36:12Mariko: Oh, okay.
- 36:12Mariko: And, and so we had this whole group of people just, I'm flying through the row, we're like the birds and the flock and we're moving around and just feeling that.
- 36:21Mariko: And it was a beautiful thing to witness.
- 36:23Mariko: Um, and then this like, oh, I'm so high up.
- 36:27Mariko: I can, I can try and make, I can make a mistake and tumble, I won't crash anywhere.
- 36:31Mariko: You know, I can catch myself again.
- 36:33Mariko: And, oh, the, the freedom of it all.
- 36:35Mariko: It was, it was.
- 36:37Mariko: Yeah, yeah,
- 36:38Tracy: yeah.
- 36:39Tracy: 'cause we get caught so caught up in our Italy.
- 36:42Mariko: Yes.
- 36:43Mariko: Yeah.
- 36:43Mariko: Well, and that means, you know, bringing in the movement or bringing in objects, how powerful it is.
- 36:48Mariko: Sometimes I'm carrying this burden to actually give somebody a heavy, like look for a few books or something that's really heavy to hold and hold it.
- 36:55Mariko: Yeah.
- 36:56Mariko: Just really finally acknowledge this is the burden that you're holding to the point where they're like, okay, I don't wanna hold this anymore.
- 37:03Mariko: Good.
- 37:05Mariko: Pass it back.
- 37:07Mariko: Yeah.
- 37:07Tracy: Yeah.
- 37:07Tracy: Yeah.
- 37:08Tracy: That's, yeah.
- 37:09Tracy: I have some objects that I use for that.
- 37:11Tracy: Yeah.
- 37:12Tracy: Yeah.
- 37:12Tracy: Um, who would you, I know you've mentioned a couple of people already.
- 37:17Tracy: Mm-hmm.
- 37:17Tracy: Are there any other teachers that you admire, that you follow, or, um, any other teachers in this work?
- 37:24Mariko: What's just popping into my mind.
- 37:26Mariko: Mark Wolin with his book and then what he's shared about it did not, and did not start with you.
- 37:31Mariko: Um, I've worked with Michael Reddy for a while.
- 37:33Mariko: I've worked with, with quite a few different people.
- 37:35Mariko: Uh, I really enjoyed attending the, the North American Conference, a big conference just to meet a lot of different people.
- 37:43Mariko: Do I really follow them though?
- 37:45Mariko: Not, not so much anymore.
- 37:46Mariko: I dunno.
- 37:47Mariko: These last few years I've just, I am intrigued.
- 37:51Mariko: Very crossed for a while.
- 37:53Mariko: I dropped in with him.
- 37:54Mariko: I, I, I, once in a while, I, I get the attention of some Constellation facilitator or when you're doing the, um, the lovely, um, conferences and I can join online.
- 38:05Mariko: I'll drop in.
- 38:05Mariko: I'll just be reinspired, see if somebody's sharing something new, different, um, I think it, it just, it, it just widens my, the opportunities that are out there.
- 38:15Mariko: Think of something, a new approach.
- 38:18Mariko: And yet I just find working with.
- 38:20Mariko: People I follow where, where I, in Hawaii we say chicken skin, so where, where my hair stands, where, where the intuition is.
- 38:28Mariko: And um, and then we, we dive into it.
- 38:31Mariko: Oh, have we considered looking at this?
- 38:33Mariko: No, let's try that aspect.
- 38:35Mariko: It's, it's, yeah.
- 38:36Tracy: Beautiful.
- 38:36Tracy: Beautiful.
- 38:37Mariko: Yeah.
- 38:38Tracy: It's interesting that you mentioned Michael because he's, he came up yesterday, actually, I was doing some Oh.
- 38:43Tracy: File sharing and stuff like that.
- 38:45Tracy: Mm-hmm.
- 38:45Tracy: And um, some information that he'd sent me years ago, he'd come up and was like, oh, 'cause you know, he passed away.
- 38:51Mariko: I did not.
- 38:52Mariko: Ah, okay.
- 38:54Mariko: Years
- 38:54Tracy: ago, I think now.
- 38:55Tracy: Yeah.
- 38:56Tracy: But he, he was quite, um, instrumented in some of my earlier journeys in, in my work as
- 39:01Mariko: well.
- 39:01Mariko: Yeah.
- 39:02Mariko: Around
- 39:02Tracy: alter work.
- 39:03Tracy: Um,
- 39:05Mariko: some
- 39:05Tracy: of those.
- 39:06Tracy: Right.
- 39:06Tracy: He loved, he has a great sense of humor.
- 39:08Tracy: Really enjoyed him.
- 39:09Tracy: Yes.
- 39:10Mariko: Yeah.
- 39:11Mariko: Yeah.
- 39:12Mariko: That was a joy.
- 39:12Mariko: I had met him in person in, in California at the conference, and then we stayed in touch and worked together for a while.
- 39:18Mariko: Also, kind of philosophizing about how, how do we train, how do we pass this work along?
- 39:23Tracy: It's been
- 39:23Mariko: a, a bigger conversation with quite a few, you know, how do you really help encourage people to, to.
- 39:32Mariko: I like the way how you said, give them the bones, but then also how to embody it, how to make it their own.
- 39:37Mariko: How, what is it about the facilitation where I get out of my own way and really reading.
- 39:45Mariko: Field and allowing the unfolding.
- 39:48Mariko: And yet guiding because we do have those, those key structures or how the healing happens, those, those gifts that we were shown, like how to acknowledge maybe what healing statements to use.
- 40:00Mariko: Um, yeah.
- 40:02Tracy: And it's overwhelming.
- 40:03Tracy: I think.
- 40:03Tracy: Well not, it can be overwhelming when you first step into it 'cause you're like afraid you're gonna get it wrong.
- 40:09Tracy: But trusting the field and it's like using, it's, there's that intuition.
- 40:13Tracy: Yeah.
- 40:14Tracy: But there's also, there is some psychology in it as well.
- 40:16Tracy: Yes, right.
- 40:17Tracy: I think, you know, um, sometimes we, we really have to look at, uh, our own, we definitely have to look at our own blocks.
- 40:24Mariko: Oh, yes, definitely.
- 40:26Tracy: Yeah.
- 40:27Tracy: Yes.
- 40:27Tracy: Yeah.
- 40:28Tracy: I think the psychology comes with the bones of the work.
- 40:31Tracy: Yes.
- 40:32Tracy: I came to the work from a healers.
- 40:35Tracy: A healing angle.
- 40:36Tracy: Yeah.
- 40:37Tracy: Working in that round.
- 40:37Tracy: And then, um, was learning the psychology.
- 40:40Mariko: Yeah.
- 40:41Tracy: And a lot of people come from the other way, come from psychology and then Yeah.
- 40:44Tracy: Yeah.
- 40:44Tracy: Learn the energetics and the healing side of things, so.
- 40:47Tracy: Mm.
- 40:48Mariko: And we keep growing and learning and, and, and expanding.
- 40:51Mariko: As I said, you know, I, I had come in, I don't even know what I'd call it, probably from the healer background more as well with, with the different work, the breath work though.
- 41:00Mariko: Fire walks the nature awareness and, and this intuition of reading the field.
- 41:04Mariko: But then what do I do with it?
- 41:06Mariko: How do I guide it?
- 41:07Mariko: How do I, so more the psychology, the, the working with it as well.
- 41:12Mariko: And then now with this, this, uh, compassionate inquiry work, the trauma informed, I, I bring in a lot more space for presence, for being with the emotions, for allowing that.
- 41:25Mariko: I just, I had a constellation last week of.
- 41:29Mariko: Um, in a group and the client had, she wanted to look at.
- 41:33Mariko: Allowing in a new relationship and her issue with men and with money and the struggles.
- 41:40Mariko: And, um, so we represented her and, and the new romantic relationship and, and that struggle, which really went back a lineage.
- 41:49Mariko: It was so much about masculine and strength and money and finances and control and, and, um, got to the place of.
- 41:58Mariko: Uh, realizing she didn't allow herself to rest.
- 42:01Mariko: I have to, well, who My, my marriage has failed.
- 42:04Mariko: It's just me.
- 42:04Mariko: I have to, um, get this all and, and, and acknowledging, wow, I've, I've suffered from insomnia this whole year.
- 42:10Mariko: I have not been able to sleep.
- 42:11Mariko: I have not been able to rest.
- 42:13Mariko: And, um, often I bring in the, the clients at the end when we've come kind of to a place so that they can stand as themselves and have a relationship.
- 42:23Mariko: In this instant, I felt called to have her herself had laid down on the ground to rest, and I brought her in, and so herself was holding her.
- 42:33Mariko: For the first time, she's like, I'm not alone.
- 42:35Mariko: I myself am holding me though I'm not dependent on somebody else.
- 42:39Mariko: I have myself holding me and found herself with her head in the lap of this new romantic partner who was stroking her hair gently, and it was just like, you can finally be yourself.
- 42:51Mariko: And she could just lie there and relax for it.
- 42:54Mariko: Lasted for for quite a long time.
- 42:55Mariko: They all said no.
- 42:56Mariko: Well, this is so comfortable.
- 42:57Mariko: We're staying here.
- 42:58Mariko: And from that place, it was beautiful because the, the masculine and the, the finances, the money, the, the toughness finally acknowledged.
- 43:08Mariko: I, it's too much for me.
- 43:09Mariko: I can't do this anymore.
- 43:11Mariko: I've been fighting this.
- 43:12Mariko: I'm, I'm tired too.
- 43:13Mariko: And she said, I'm safe here.
- 43:15Mariko: Come here.
- 43:16Mariko: And, and so it could lay down too.
- 43:18Mariko: I mean, rarely do I end up with my participants on the ground cuddling each other in what they themselves call a puppy puddle.
- 43:24Mariko: But.
- 43:25Mariko: It just, it was beautiful to see this resolution where kind of the healing and the lineage of this, this money, the finance, the tough, the patriarchal, the could also then just, you have a place, it's okay, I'm not gonna do it your way, I'm gonna do it my way, but yeah, I accept you.
- 43:41Tracy: Beautiful.
- 43:42Mariko: And she could fine rest.
- 43:44Mariko: And, uh, supposedly now has also been able to sleep where, or she was struggling with this insomnia of, of, I need to, I need to do, I need to do, and kept waking up.
- 43:54Mariko: So
- 43:55Tracy: stay on alert, stay on flight mode.
- 43:56Tracy: Yeah.
- 43:57Tracy: Keep going.
- 43:58Tracy: Well, I feel like we're already just touching the surface and we've been chatting for like 15 minutes already.
- 44:02Mariko: See that?
- 44:03Mariko: Yes.
- 44:07Mariko: There's so many different stories and, and the depths of it.
- 44:11Mariko: There's one thing I did wanna add that I feel, well two things actually that I feel I do differently than a lot of different facilitators have come across, which is, um.
- 44:20Mariko: I've, I've now been told that they're calling what?
- 44:23Mariko: My work Double blind.
- 44:24Mariko: So, um, I, when I work in a group, I talk to the client and we work out the details and we work out what we wanna start with.
- 44:34Mariko: Let's say three, three different things, um, as in this last case, so herself and, and the new romantic relationship and that money and, and.
- 44:44Mariko: And masculine energy.
- 44:46Mariko: And then when we come back to the group and I asked her to write them on a piece of paper, so three pieces of paper, and then we're in the group and everybody gets to share their personal intention.
- 44:55Mariko: I believe that saying it out loud and saying it in a positive way into the space will allow the universe to respond and give you that experience that you need.
- 45:05Mariko: So everybody benefits,
- 45:06Tracy: are you referring to the client speaking it or everybody in the circle?
- 45:09Mariko: Everybody in the circle gets to say it.
- 45:12Mariko: So that to me is different than others that I've experienced.
- 45:15Mariko: And as, as we were talking though, like everybody finds their correct role, but if you actually br say it an intention out loud and into the space, it becomes more clear of what you're asking from the space.
- 45:28Mariko: One of my teachers had this beautiful example where they said, you know, I'm starving, I'm hungry.
- 45:33Mariko: I come to this universal.
- 45:35Mariko: Restaurant and I say, I'm star gimme food.
- 45:38Mariko: And I say, well, what do you want?
- 45:39Mariko: I just gimme food.
- 45:41Mariko: Okay, here's a red hot chili.
- 45:43Mariko: I, I can't eat that.
- 45:45Mariko: Well, what do you want?
- 45:46Mariko: You know, you have to say what you want.
- 45:49Mariko: I'm starving.
- 45:50Mariko: Please gimme something.
- 45:51Mariko: Okay, here's a, here's a bowl of ice cream.
- 45:53Mariko: Well, that's, no, I, I need something nourishing.
- 45:56Mariko: Yeah.
- 45:56Mariko: You know, so the clearer you can say what you want, the clearer the universe can respond and give you that experience.
- 46:02Tracy: Yes,
- 46:02Mariko: I'll ask everybody to actually share their intention out loud.
- 46:06Mariko: I'll ask my client to share theirs at the end, and I ask them to only share that one sentence.
- 46:11Mariko: And it could just be, I want to feel more at peace within myself, so the others don't know the story.
- 46:18Mariko: And so their minds, their intellects, don't get involved in this.
- 46:21Mariko: And I point out to them that whatever they are, it could be an animal, it could be an emotion, it could be an illness, it could be a building, it could be a person.
- 46:30Mariko: And then the double blind is then I shuffle these three papers and though my client and I know what's on the three papers, we don't know who is going to be what.
- 46:38Mariko: And so I asked my client to feel into it, and then just by feeling, give it to somebody.
- 46:42Mariko: And I asked them to just take the paper and put it on their body without looking at it.
- 46:46Mariko: And so we put this out for a while, and I believe that this way, really the mind can't take over.
- 46:52Mariko: I don't know what this is about.
- 46:53Mariko: I don't know that this is the sexual abuse that happened in childhood, and I am the abusive step.
- 46:59Mariko: Father, and so I'm gonna act this way.
- 47:02Mariko: I, I don't know what I am, so I have to trust whatever's there, whatever's coming up.
- 47:07Mariko: And then I guide them during the constellation to, because I can tap into it a little bit.
- 47:13Mariko: Are you aware of the others?
- 47:15Mariko: Well, sure, of course.
- 47:15Mariko: I'm aware.
- 47:16Mariko: I'm, I'm here, I'm present.
- 47:17Mariko: Yeah.
- 47:17Mariko: But I see you're looking out the window and you're really focused on, well, if you put it that way.
- 47:23Mariko: Um, yes, I'm actually, my attention is really out there.
- 47:27Mariko: Well allow that.
- 47:28Mariko: Just allow it to unfold.
- 47:30Mariko: Yeah.
- 47:30Mariko: I'm not really, yeah, they're talking, but I'm.
- 47:33Mariko: So I don't have to listen.
- 47:34Mariko: No, you don't have to.
- 47:35Mariko: Just allow that to unfold.
- 47:37Mariko: And then we get to a place in the constellation where it feels kind of like a resolution or we need to actually now clear if it's a family pattern, let's say, where, you know, who's who and who gets to stand and what role.
- 47:50Mariko: Um, so we re we we look at the papers, who's who, and then the client could share however much or little, usually it's.
- 47:57Mariko: Because they're like, oh my gosh, this was, this explains everything.
- 48:01Mariko: And then the, the representatives are relieved in a way too, because they know what they were representing.
- 48:08Mariko: Mm-hmm.
- 48:09Mariko: But in their experience, they could really.
- 48:12Mariko: They have no story.
- 48:13Mariko: So between their own experience and what this was, and then they are shared that.
- 48:18Mariko: And then what I do at the end is I, I give time to actually reflect.
- 48:22Mariko: So we do a meditation at the beginning.
- 48:23Mariko: We do one at the end as we release the space.
- 48:26Mariko: But then also, what are you taking along?
- 48:29Mariko: What did this mean to you?
- 48:30Mariko: And think back on the intention, you said out loud at the beginning.
- 48:34Mariko: How did this actually answer or give you that experience?
- 48:37Mariko: And it's beautiful how giving that extra space and giving the group the chance to mirror it back to the person, the person gets to integrate already much more.
- 48:46Mariko: And we were talking about the time it takes to integrate and understand what's coming up.
- 48:51Mariko: And so this helps a little bit as one of my favorite examples is a man had come in and said, well, um.
- 48:58Mariko: My intention is to figure out what, what I, I'm having this communication issue with my clients and in my IT world thing business.
- 49:06Mariko: And it turned out to be the mother of an adult mother child relationship to this daughter.
- 49:12Mariko: And he said, well, so what, you know, what, what does being a mother have to do with how I relate to my clients?
- 49:17Mariko: Well, what was it in that role that shifted that helped the mother communicate to her adult daughter?
- 49:22Mariko: What did she have to change?
- 49:25Mariko: Oh my gosh.
- 49:26Mariko: Yes, of course.
- 49:27Mariko: That's what you need to do with your clients.
- 49:30Tracy: Yeah.
- 49:31Mariko: And so giving that extra mirroring, giving that extra time.
- 49:34Mariko: That's why I say truly everybody that comes and even if it's, well, I was just the observer.
- 49:40Mariko: I was just sitting here.
- 49:41Mariko: Well, and what happened as that?
- 49:43Mariko: What came up for you?
- 49:44Mariko: What, well, I, well, I, I, I said I wanted to.
- 49:48Mariko: Be more present and allow things to unfold without me interfering.
- 49:52Mariko: Well, did that just unfold in that way as you were the witness and just sitting there?
- 49:57Mariko: So yeah, I've seen a lot of beautiful things coming through that process and I enjoy absolutely working that way.
- 50:05Mariko: Yeah,
- 50:07Tracy: absolutely.
- 50:07Tracy: You can be open to receiving and uh, and just that, that layering, that multidimensional layers as well, like.
- 50:15Tracy: What's going on around you and the reflections that are there?
- 50:19Tracy: I, I remember one time, uh, I was at a conference in Sydney and, and, and often I, you know, I like to represent what I can.
- 50:27Tracy: 'cause as a trainer now, I don't get the opportunity, but this day, yeah, I kind of wake up in a little bit of a funk.
- 50:34Tracy: And so the whole day I just, I witnessed, but everything that came in front of me, everything that I witnessed.
- 50:40Tracy: It was another layer and another peeling back when I put my own family members in those places that were, people were showing up in.
- 50:47Tracy: And it was beautiful because I didn't, I didn't have to sit in the hot seat.
- 50:51Tracy: I didn't have to share with anyone else.
- 50:53Tracy: I just allowed the process throughout the day.
- 50:56Tracy: Right.
- 50:56Tracy: I felt completely safe and held and, and without anyone even knowing, you know?
- 51:01Tracy: It was great.
- 51:03Tracy: Yeah.
- 51:03Tracy: I think this comes with with experience too, though, maybe.
- 51:07Mariko: Yes.
- 51:07Mariko: Yeah.
- 51:08Mariko: When, when we, when we can get ourselves, our minds out of the way, when we can allow, uh, life and, and come more from that observer role, I think there's much more magic around us in everyday life than, than we realize.
- 51:22Mariko: It's, it's quite a journey.
- 51:24Mariko: And doing this work, um, continue doing this work is like strengthening that muscle, strengthening the muscle to become more and more aware of what, what all is there?
- 51:34Mariko: And that we are part of this field.
- 51:36Mariko: We are all interconnected.
- 51:38Mariko: I mean,
- 51:38Tracy: yeah, let the humanness get out of the way so that, uh, as beings, we can have that full experience with evidence around us.
- 51:45Mariko: I wouldn't even call it the humanness.
- 51:47Mariko: I'd say it's the, the coping strategies and survival mechanisms that we learned.
- 51:51Mariko: So with compassion to recognize that, and that's where my Compassion Inquiry work comes in.
- 51:56Mariko: Where.
- 51:57Mariko: I've come to see, you know, as a 3-year-old, I couldn't say, well, my parents can't fulfill my needs.
- 52:03Mariko: I'm just gonna go out and I'm gonna take care of 'em my own, or I'm gonna turn to the neighbor.
- 52:06Mariko: You know, it's, they're not fulfilling my emotional needs.
- 52:09Mariko: Hmm.
- 52:10Mariko: So what do we do as human beings that need the, the attachment at that age as we start taking on these coping mechanisms and survival strategies?
- 52:21Mariko: Oh, if I'm just the good girl, oh, if I don't have any needs or if I don't trigger mom, then everything might be okay.
- 52:27Mariko: Or if I don't, uh, irritate dad who alcoholic or whatever, just, just is too busy and I want his attention.
- 52:35Mariko: And so it's those.
- 52:36Mariko: And so it's raising the awareness to those subconscious patterns that we have so we can recognize when they're coming up and be present with them.
- 52:46Mariko: Oh, oh, that's that part of me.
- 52:48Mariko: Okay.
- 52:49Mariko: What does she really need at that moment?
- 52:51Mariko: She's just this little 3-year-old who's scared in this moment.
- 52:54Mariko: Yeah.
- 52:55Mariko: Okay.
- 52:55Mariko: I gotcha.
- 52:56Mariko: I'm here.
- 52:57Mariko: Yeah.
- 52:57Tracy: That need over the want.
- 52:59Tracy: Right.
- 53:00Tracy: It's beautiful.
- 53:01Mariko: Yeah, and that is what I hope to share in, in this work too, that I see, that we can share in this tapping into the field, is bringing that awareness up, helping each other learn to not be that we're not alone in this, as we felt as that 3-year-old nobody to turn to.
- 53:18Mariko: You're not alone and you can do this and, and those people.
- 53:22Mariko: Wow.
- 53:22Mariko: I just, I'm so in awe and grateful for the people that are willing to do this deep work because it takes courage.
- 53:28Mariko: It's not easy, and yet it's so magical and beautiful, and, and I respect every one of 'em for showing up and being willing to do the work.
