- 0:05Speaker 1: Hey, this is Annie.
- 0:06Speaker 2: And Samantha.
- 0:07Speaker 1: And welcome to Stuff I Never Told You, a production
- 0:08Speaker 1: of iHeartRadio. And welcome to another edition of Happy Hour.
- 0:21Speaker 1: As always, if you choose to drink or whatever you're
- 0:22Speaker 1: choosing to do, please do so responsibly. Samantha, are you
- 0:26Speaker 1: sipping on anything?
- 0:27Speaker 2: I am drinking on some bubble water.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Yes. Which is interesting because I feel very energized.
- 0:37Speaker 2: We should be the opposite.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Yes, we'll talk about that more in a second. I
- 0:43Speaker 1: am sipping on my old classic red wine. And we
- 0:49Speaker 1: have to say, the time is coming for our voyage
- 0:53Speaker 1: with our friends at Virgin Voyages. We are going on
- 0:57Speaker 1: stuff at sea. This is a five-night adults-only sailing trip.
- 1:03Speaker 1: That is bringing together not only us, but fellow podcast,
- 1:08Speaker 1: stuff they don't want you to know and stuff you
- 1:10Speaker 1: should know. We're going to be having live podcast recordings
- 1:15Speaker 1: on the ship. We're going to be participating in events
- 1:17Speaker 1: and we're going to be out and about. It's going
- 1:19Speaker 1: to be really fun. Samantha and I were just talking
- 1:22Speaker 1: about the things we're excited about, the foods we're excited about,
- 1:26Speaker 1: the food. possible dancing. Yes, yes.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I saw that they had some like boy band dance
- 1:34Speaker 2: classes and I'm thinking, yeah, that might be for us.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I think it is for us, in fact. So we're
- 1:43Speaker 1: excited and we would be so excited to see you.
- 1:46Speaker 1: That would be so fun to get to meet you
- 1:50Speaker 1: and talk to you and just hang out. That would
- 1:54Speaker 1: be a lovely time. So it's from October 2nd to 7th, 2026.
- 2:00Speaker 1: And it's from New York to Bermuda. So if you
- 2:04Speaker 1: are interested, you can check out virginvoyages.com slash stuff. But yes,
- 2:09Speaker 1: it is coming up. And we are working on our topic.
- 2:11Speaker 1: And it's a fun kind of Halloween topic. It's going
- 2:15Speaker 1: to be cool.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Good and spooky.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Yes, I'm excited. So we're recording this on September 8th.
- 2:25Speaker 1: which is the day after DragonCon, because this episode is
- 2:28Speaker 1: my post-DragonCon review. And I was there yesterday. It feels
- 2:33Speaker 1: like a year ago, but it was merely yesterday. But
- 2:38Speaker 1: the episode is coming out way later, because we are
- 2:41Speaker 1: preparing for this voyage. So we're trying to get ahead.
- 2:45Speaker 1: So something might come out about this year's DragonCon later,
- 2:51Speaker 1: or I might find out I got COVID-19. Our cyclospora.
- 2:55Speaker 1: And later, the whole tune of this might change.
- 2:58Speaker 2: But not measles, right? You won't get measles, right?
- 3:02Speaker 1: No, I have that shot. Okay, good, good, good, good.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Making sure.
- 3:06Speaker 1: My mom was on top of that. No, so right
- 3:10Speaker 1: now I feel great. But it could be a couple
- 3:13Speaker 1: days from now I'm going to be kicking myself. I'm
- 3:17Speaker 1: just going to put the date in here. So... Everyone
- 3:22Speaker 1: knows in case I come back at a later date. Like, okay, well.
- 3:28Speaker 2: JK.
- 3:29Speaker 1: All right. But that's why I'm feeling so good. That's
- 3:36Speaker 1: very rare because it's a five-day event wherein I got
- 3:41Speaker 1: very little sleep. Very little sleep. But I did sleep
- 3:47Speaker 1: very well last night. I slept nine hours. Cool. It
- 3:50Speaker 1: was fantastic. Oh, I see what people are talking about. But, okay.
- 3:56Speaker 1: So this is my annual post-DragonCon review with the top
- 4:03Speaker 1: costumes and everything like that and some things I noticed.
- 4:07Speaker 1: If you somehow have missed it, DragonCon is a huge
- 4:10Speaker 1: event in Atlanta. It is a big fantasy sci-fi convention
- 4:15Speaker 1: that happens over Labor Day weekend. It has grown from
- 4:19Speaker 1: one hotel with like a thousand people coming the first
- 4:24Speaker 1: year to 75,000 people at least this year and five
- 4:29Speaker 1: host hotels and a bunch of secondary hotels. It was
- 4:35Speaker 1: packed out this year and it was the 40th anniversary
- 4:39Speaker 1: of DragonCon. So I don't know if that was a
- 4:42Speaker 1: part of it or if it just is because this
- 4:44Speaker 1: has become more mainstream, like this kind of convention. But
- 4:48Speaker 1: it was crowded. This is the only time I've ever
- 4:55Speaker 1: attended DragonCon and had to abandon the badge line.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Really?
- 4:59Speaker 1: Because the line was so long. It has never happened
- 5:02Speaker 1: to me before. I've been going at least 10 years,
- 5:07Speaker 1: I think. That has never, ever happened to me. But
- 5:12Speaker 1: there was a certain point because also we were experiencing
- 5:14Speaker 1: a heat wave.
- 5:15Speaker 2: It was so hot.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Here in Atlanta, there was rain, like sudden rain, heavy rain.
- 5:24Speaker 1: So Atlanta. Yes. But it was when people were trying
- 5:28Speaker 1: to pick up their badges on Thursday, which is when
- 5:30Speaker 1: the day it starts. And I think that's when the
- 5:32Speaker 1: line was the longest. And I mean, people were passing
- 5:37Speaker 1: out from heat exhaustion. It was... It was really bad.
- 5:42Speaker 1: But people were saying a lot, and just the rain,
- 5:45Speaker 1: huge downpour. So we had to wait until Friday. We
- 5:49Speaker 1: woke up at 7 a.m. to go get our badges.
- 5:54Speaker 1: And the line was an hour long, even so.
- 5:57Speaker 2: So, yeah, I drove down, I think it was like
- 6:00Speaker 2: two streets over from where the badge pickup line. I'm
- 6:04Speaker 2: not sure. I could be wrong, but Piedmont Road. Mm-hmm.
- 6:08Speaker 2: So I was going down to my class around, like,
- 6:11Speaker 2: 9 o'clock, and I saw a line wrapped around. I
- 6:15Speaker 2: was like, what?
- 6:16Speaker 1: Oh.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Oh, wow. And that was insane. And I think I
- 6:20Speaker 2: had texted you, and you were like, yep, it took
- 6:22Speaker 2: me an hour. Mm-hmm. Yeah.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I heard some people saying three to five hours it took.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Well, so is it true? So I heard, because, you know,
- 6:33Speaker 2: my feed was full of DragonCon for all my social medias,
- 6:37Speaker 2: That a part of the issue was that the computers
- 6:39Speaker 2: went down?
- 6:40Speaker 1: That's what I heard as well. I can't verify it
- 6:43Speaker 1: outside of what I saw on social media or Reddit.
- 6:46Speaker 1: But yes, that is what I heard. I also heard
- 6:50Speaker 1: that just the influx of people. I was telling Samantha,
- 6:57Speaker 1: when I used to go on Thursday, it was not crowded.
- 7:01Speaker 1: It didn't used to be. It used to be really
- 7:03Speaker 1: low key and I would go and it was like
- 7:05Speaker 1: nobody there and it was kind of lovely. Thursday is
- 7:08Speaker 1: now like they're already full swing. In fact, Wednesday has
- 7:13Speaker 1: become the new Thursday. Exactly. So I don't know if,
- 7:18Speaker 1: I think it's probably a combination of things, but I
- 7:21Speaker 1: did hear that as well, that the machines went down.
- 7:25Speaker 1: When we got our badges, everything went really smoothly. And
- 7:30Speaker 1: I actually had a friend who came later that day
- 7:34Speaker 1: and she didn't wait at all.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Oh, really?
- 7:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:36Speaker 2: On Thursdays?
- 7:38Speaker 1: No, she came on, she came later on Friday.
- 7:41Speaker 2: On Friday, on Friday. Gotcha, gotcha.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Man, Friday feels like such a long day because I've
- 7:45Speaker 1: never woken up that early at DragonCon to get a badge.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Wow.
- 7:48Speaker 1: It's like, wow. Yeah, but it was Friday. And we
- 7:52Speaker 1: did have some good luck with lines. We didn't wait
- 7:54Speaker 1: at all to get into the Mart. Amazing. The Mart
- 7:56Speaker 1: is where you buy all of your nerd.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that's always run, like, always overcrowded. That's surprising.
- 8:04Speaker 1: It's like, The longest line encounter. I'm not sure.
- 8:10Speaker 2: It was.
- 8:11Speaker 1: The Dragon Con gods were with us, but there was
- 8:13Speaker 1: no line. Later we saw it, and the line was
- 8:17Speaker 1: three hours long. But that was awesome. And then the checkout.
- 8:22Speaker 1: When you check out of the hotel, everybody's usually trying
- 8:25Speaker 1: to get out at the same time. And the wait
- 8:27Speaker 1: for the elevators, which is kind of a notorious Dragon
- 8:30Speaker 1: Con thing, that you'll be waiting for the elevators. None.
- 8:34Speaker 2: And.
- 8:35Speaker 1: The four of us with all of our stuff got
- 8:38Speaker 1: one elevator to ourselves. There was nobody else in the elevator.
- 8:41Speaker 1: It was amazing. But we also woke up early because
- 8:45Speaker 1: I wanted to get out before the checkout crush. I
- 8:49Speaker 1: think that's the earliest we've ever left. Because I used
- 8:51Speaker 1: to be like, I paid for this hotel until 11
- 8:54Speaker 1: and I'm going to be staying until 11. This year
- 8:56Speaker 1: I was like, we're leaving.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Cannot handle this.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Let's go. Yes. But it was awesome. That was really great.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:05Speaker 1: As I said, the heat wave really put a damper
- 9:08Speaker 1: on some things because I think there were some events
- 9:14Speaker 1: that were canceled. Popular events, too, like the burlesque show,
- 9:19Speaker 1: which is huge. It was canceled because they were worried, basically,
- 9:26Speaker 1: that the HVAC system couldn't keep up with the amount
- 9:31Speaker 1: of people that would be in the room. And it
- 9:33Speaker 1: was so hot. And that there would be heat exhaustion,
- 9:36Speaker 1: so they canceled it.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Wow.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I think that the parade attendance as the parade marchers,
- 9:45Speaker 1: I think it was actually less this year, even though
- 9:48Speaker 1: it was the 40th, because it was so hot.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Yeah, that's dangerous.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Yes, but I wanted to tell you this, Samantha. I
- 9:55Speaker 1: learned an interesting fact okay about the parade it is
- 9:59Speaker 1: always led by a woman bagpiper oh yes yes named
- 10:07Speaker 1: jannie warts i hope i'm pronouncing that right but she
- 10:10Speaker 1: always starts it she's a fantasy author who traditionally yeah
- 10:14Speaker 1: has opened the parade i love that yeah i just
- 10:17Speaker 1: i when i learned that the crossover I need to
- 10:20Speaker 1: tell Samantha this. And that's because of our, at this point,
- 10:26Speaker 1: past episode on women and bagpiping. That's why I was thinking.
- 10:29Speaker 2: One of our recent episodes, whether it's future or past.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Yes. Again, we're recording this way in advance.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Right. We're all over the schedule. Yes.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Yes. I did appreciate that there was increased diversity this year.
- 10:46Speaker 1: I talked about this last year where I was happy
- 10:48Speaker 1: about it. And it had continued this year. There's a
- 10:52Speaker 1: huge range of ages. Just enormous. And I really loved
- 10:57Speaker 1: seeing just the kids being so happy, but also older
- 11:02Speaker 1: adults being so happy and having fun. And that was
- 11:05Speaker 1: really cool. Both me and a good friend of mine, Katie,
- 11:10Speaker 1: had interesting interactions with exes. But that's kind of, that
- 11:14Speaker 1: comes with the con. You have to.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:17Speaker 2: You have to share.
- 11:17Speaker 1: But they weren't bad. They weren't bad.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Good, good.
- 11:20Speaker 1: But I did have a creepy encounter.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 11:25Speaker 1: And we have talked about harassment and stuff at cons
- 11:28Speaker 1: and what that looks like. And so the last night,
- 11:31Speaker 1: probably I was out at 2 a.m. I was with
- 11:33Speaker 1: a good friend of mine. And this guy comes up
- 11:36Speaker 1: to us and he asked me if my good friend
- 11:40Speaker 1: was a woman. was my husband and then he kept
- 11:47Speaker 1: asking me how old I was and then he wanted
- 11:50Speaker 1: a picture and he was like make it look like
- 11:52Speaker 1: she's my girlfriend and all of this stuff excuse me
- 11:55Speaker 1: yeah it was really creepy and then my friend later
- 11:58Speaker 1: like I hate that I felt too uncomfortable to just
- 12:03Speaker 1: be like no because I was worried he would get
- 12:05Speaker 1: like violent.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Or something right legitimate.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Later my friend was like first of all If I
- 12:11Speaker 1: was your husband, how dare he?
- 12:14Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 12:14Speaker 1: How dare he ask for your picture and say, make
- 12:20Speaker 1: it look like she's my girlfriend? If you think we're... Together.
- 12:25Speaker 1: She had all of these grievances, and so we had
- 12:29Speaker 1: a good time having a little bitch and wine about that.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Good. Yes.
- 12:36Speaker 1: So I have more of my final thoughts at the end,
- 12:39Speaker 1: but before we get into that, I wanted to go
- 12:41Speaker 1: over the top costumes. Yes, that I noticed. I would
- 12:55Speaker 1: say that Samantha and I's predictions from our pre-DragonCon happy
- 13:00Speaker 1: hour were mostly right. I have to say, I'm not
- 13:04Speaker 1: sure if it's because I'm not familiar with the Odyssey,
- 13:06Speaker 1: but I didn't see too much of the Odyssey. Really?
- 13:09Speaker 2: Really.
- 13:10Speaker 1: But I did see a huge Trojan horse group. Oh.
- 13:14Speaker 1: But it could just be because I could mistake that
- 13:17Speaker 1: kind of costume for a bunch of different things, and
- 13:20Speaker 1: I haven't seen the Odyssey. So that was one I
- 13:24Speaker 1: was like, oh, okay. But the biggest one, in my opinion,
- 13:29Speaker 1: by far, was Dungeon Crawler Carl, which we talked about
- 13:35Speaker 1: with Genevieve. on our recent episode about books and editing
- 13:40Speaker 1: and publishing and all of that. I'm so glad we
- 13:43Speaker 1: talked about it on that episode because I would not
- 13:46Speaker 1: have known what it was otherwise.
- 13:48Speaker 2: You would have been confused.
- 13:50Speaker 1: I would have been very confused, but luckily I knew
- 13:53Speaker 1: what it was. Prepared. Yes, and it was everywhere. And
- 13:57Speaker 1: I think there are a couple of reasons for it.
- 13:58Speaker 1: I mean, obviously the popularity. I do think that for
- 14:02Speaker 1: the main cosplay, you could do that pretty low-key. So
- 14:07Speaker 1: that's accessible, that's easy enough. It doesn't have to be,
- 14:11Speaker 1: because some were much more elaborate.
- 14:14Speaker 2: The dedication to having Princess Donut was fantastic.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Yes, some of the other characters, absolutely. Not easy at all.
- 14:26Speaker 1: And I want to make it clear, I'm not judging
- 14:28Speaker 1: the easy characters. I have plenty of low-key, easy cosplay,
- 14:34Speaker 1: so I'm not judging that. I'm just wondering if that's
- 14:36Speaker 1: part of why it was so popular. Dolly Parton and
- 14:41Speaker 1: Tim Curry? Yeah. We were right about that. Tim Curry,
- 14:45Speaker 1: especially as Rocky, like Rocky Horror Picture Show Tim Curry. Yes, yes.
- 14:51Speaker 1: I didn't personally witness this, but two of my friends did.
- 14:55Speaker 1: But there's always a huge contingent of inflatable dinosaurs, like T-Rexes.
- 15:01Speaker 1: And my friends saw them dancing to 9 to 5.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Oh, that's so cute.
- 15:08Speaker 1: That's so great. And I've mentioned before, there's a Hall
- 15:12Speaker 1: of Shrines. And so there's three main, there's five hotels,
- 15:18Speaker 1: and then three of them are connected via sky bridges.
- 15:22Speaker 1: One of the sky bridges has like a Hall of Shrines.
- 15:27Speaker 1: And this year, the Hall of Shrines is, was more
- 15:31Speaker 1: somber than it usually is. Like, usually they're very funny.
- 15:34Speaker 1: And there were some funny ones, don't get me wrong. Like, Odyssey,
- 15:37Speaker 1: Matt Damon meme, whatever that is. This year there was, like,
- 15:42Speaker 1: Dolly Parton and Jim Curry and, like, Catherine O'Hara.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Yeah. And there were some, like, really big voice actors
- 15:48Speaker 2: who died, too.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, so it was a lot more like that
- 15:53Speaker 1: this year. Bad Bunny Grass from the Super Bowl halftime show. Huge.
- 16:01Speaker 1: So many people.
- 16:03Speaker 2: That's amazing.
- 16:04Speaker 1: That was awesome. I don't know this one, but we
- 16:08Speaker 1: were able to figure out what it is. It's Vultrumites,
- 16:11Speaker 1: Vultrumites from Invincible. I don't know, but it was huge.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Project Hail Mary, which I have to say I didn't
- 16:20Speaker 1: mention in the episode, but afterwards I texted Samantha and
- 16:23Speaker 1: I said, I wonder. Yes, it was huge. There was
- 16:28Speaker 1: a lot of, a lot of, Different types of Rockies.
- 16:32Speaker 1: My favorite one was the one in the, like, it
- 16:34Speaker 1: looks like a D & D dice to me. You know,
- 16:37Speaker 1: when he's in, like, his little device. His little tank. Yeah. Yeah.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I love that. There was, like, a puppet one that
- 16:43Speaker 1: somebody had. There was a lot of the Brian Gosling
- 16:47Speaker 1: sweater from that. So that was big showing. World Cup
- 16:51Speaker 1: stuff was big as well. I saw a lot of Hollands.
- 16:56Speaker 1: One had the raccoon. Yep, yep, yep.
- 17:00Speaker 2: The taxidermy raccoon oh no that raccoon yes not jimothy
- 17:05Speaker 2: but there was.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Jimothy we'll talk about jimothy later but yes um there
- 17:10Speaker 1: was a lot of people dressed as like the tartan
- 17:13Speaker 1: army or like they had cones um traffic cones there
- 17:19Speaker 1: was a lot of pro canada stuff i have to
- 17:20Speaker 1: say really yeah yes one we didn't guess but i
- 17:26Speaker 1: thought about later i wasn't sure but toy story was
- 17:29Speaker 1: pretty big obsession yes yes yes yes there was a
- 17:37Speaker 1: Nikki with the flowers at least one Nikki with a
- 17:40Speaker 1: cat like carrying around the cat there was somebody dressed
- 17:43Speaker 1: as the one wish willow there were people in like
- 17:47Speaker 1: the work outfit that they have for the music store
- 17:50Speaker 1: there were a bunch of Nikki's which makes sense that
- 17:54Speaker 1: makes more sense than anybody else but yes so that
- 17:57Speaker 1: was there Another thing I don't know, Amazing Digital Circus.
- 18:03Speaker 1: But that was a big one. It's like teeth. It's
- 18:09Speaker 1: like an animated show with a guy with big teeth.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Oh, I have seen that. Okay.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Yes. Has been Hotel. Mrs. Frizzle.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Oh, yay.
- 18:20Speaker 1: There were a lot of Mrs. Frizzles. I just said Mrs.
- 18:24Speaker 1: I'm so sorry. I get that mixed up all the time.
- 18:26Speaker 1: But yes, there were a lot of Mrs. Frizzles. There
- 18:29Speaker 1: were a lot of Leon from Resident Evil 4, and
- 18:34Speaker 1: I'm not sure why, but Resident Evil, I guess it's
- 18:36Speaker 1: in the zeitgeist because the new movie is coming out
- 18:39Speaker 1: and people are getting excited, but a lot of those.
- 18:43Speaker 1: So there were, like, in the kind of broader category,
- 18:49Speaker 1: there was pretty good showing of classics like Star Wars, comics,
- 18:53Speaker 1: Lord of the Rings, I would say. I'm not someone
- 18:57Speaker 1: who knows a lot about anime, but I have my
- 18:59Speaker 1: anime expert who is with me, and she sent me some.
- 19:02Speaker 1: She said One Piece, Hatsune Miku, Demon Slayer, Apothecary Diaries,
- 19:10Speaker 1: Jujutsu Kaisen. So those were there. And this brings us
- 19:16Speaker 1: to my honorable mentions, which are ones that I wouldn't
- 19:19Speaker 1: say there were a lot of, but like stood out
- 19:21Speaker 1: to me. This, my favorite one, probably. was this group
- 19:28Speaker 1: of J. Jonah Jamesons. So J. Jonah Jameson is the
- 19:34Speaker 1: guy in Spider-Man who's always like, get me pictures of Spider-Man.
- 19:38Speaker 1: And he's played by J.K. Simmons in the more recent movies.
- 19:42Speaker 1: But it was a group of about 10 people dressed
- 19:45Speaker 1: as him. And they had newspapers that said, like spider-man
- 19:51Speaker 1: we've got you and they all have the cigars and
- 19:55Speaker 1: every time they saw spider-man they would just so enthusiastically
- 19:59Speaker 1: be like it was like the best it made me
- 20:05Speaker 1: laugh so hard I think it's the only picture I
- 20:07Speaker 1: took of a costume.
- 20:09Speaker 2: You sent me that one, yeah.
- 20:10Speaker 1: I loved it. It was so funny just how they
- 20:14Speaker 1: would immediately pop up. Spider-Man! I loved it. Another thing
- 20:21Speaker 1: I sent you, and this was a thing I was
- 20:23Speaker 1: hoping to see, was Buff the Hutt from The Mandalorian
- 20:27Speaker 1: and Grogu. So I ran into one in the wild separately.
- 20:33Speaker 1: But I missed this. Apparently they had a whole parade
- 20:37Speaker 1: of them. Just inflatable buff the huts. Yeah, Rada. Rada
- 20:45Speaker 1: is his real name. But I like buff the hut.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I feel like it gets to the.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Point for people who don't know. If you say Rada
- 20:50Speaker 2: to me, I just look at you.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Exactly. But buff the hut, you're like, ah, yes.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I understand.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Yes. So there was a whole parade of them. There's
- 20:58Speaker 1: a lot of conga lines at Dragon Con where big
- 21:00Speaker 1: groups will go through the three main hotels. And so
- 21:03Speaker 1: there was one of those for them. I saw the
- 21:08Speaker 1: Mulan concubines. That was good. I really liked it. Perfect.
- 21:15Speaker 1: There were people dressed as lettuce in Cyclospora. There was
- 21:20Speaker 1: no Taylor's version. No. That I saw. But there were
- 21:23Speaker 1: people dressed as lettuce and the psychospora was giving out
- 21:27Speaker 1: free hugs. There was a Jimothy. I did not see,
- 21:35Speaker 1: but I know that the person who did the cosplay
- 21:39Speaker 1: is like a famous cosplayer. Oh. Yeah. A Darth Vader
- 21:45Speaker 1: drinking out of a pink bucket. That made my day.
- 21:49Speaker 1: That was so cute. Yes. Oh. Somebody did dead Bitch McConnell.
- 21:57Speaker 1: And he was doing like, you know, Weekend. What is
- 22:01Speaker 1: that movie called?
- 22:02Speaker 2: Weekend at Bernie's.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Weekend at Bernie's. And so it was like that picture,
- 22:08Speaker 1: but it was a dead body. That's amazing. Yes. Yes.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I also saw somebody doing a cosplay I've long wanted
- 22:18Speaker 1: to do, which is the Qui-Gon Jinn meme. So this
- 22:22Speaker 1: is a meme where it's a behind-the-scenes photo from The
- 22:26Speaker 1: Phantom Menace where George Lucas is talking to Liam Neeson,
- 22:30Speaker 1: who plays Qui-Gon Jinn, who is in full Jedi attire.
- 22:34Speaker 1: And he has a white layer of zinc on his nose.
- 22:42Speaker 1: And he's holding a rainbow umbrella. And he has this
- 22:46Speaker 1: bandage around his head to keep the sweat out. And
- 22:49Speaker 1: it's just the funniest....
- 22:52Speaker 2: Picture.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I love it. But somebody went as that.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Nice. Yes.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Yes. Somebody, there was a group of Galaxy Quest people
- 23:03Speaker 1: and they had the big rock and they were just
- 23:06Speaker 1: pushing it around. That was fun. There was a group
- 23:10Speaker 1: of people who were doing the 300, but they were
- 23:14Speaker 1: doing Marta.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Yeah. This is Marta.
- 23:16Speaker 1: This is Marta, which is our local um, public transport
- 23:21Speaker 1: in Atlanta. So that was fun. There was a Coors night.
- 23:26Speaker 1: There's somebody who was a night, but it was all Coors. Uh,
- 23:33Speaker 1: there was a hot ones, uh, and they had all
- 23:35Speaker 1: the sauces.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Wow.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Yeah. There, that was cool. There was a dick in
- 23:41Speaker 1: the box, which is a little wild display they had going, um,
- 23:46Speaker 1: Some of these costumes are a little bit not safe
- 23:49Speaker 1: for work, if you know what I mean. But that
- 23:53Speaker 1: was interesting. I also love somebody. It was a woman
- 23:56Speaker 1: and she had like a watermelon bra. And my friend
- 24:01Speaker 1: who was walking with me said, look at those melons.
- 24:03Speaker 1: And I was like, that's exactly what she wanted. That's
- 24:05Speaker 1: the exact thing. There were some people dressed as AO3 tags,
- 24:14Speaker 1: which is a popular fan fiction site. So I liked that, too.
- 24:19Speaker 1: So those were my big costumes. Those are the things
- 24:23Speaker 1: I noticed.
- 24:24Speaker 2: I know that there was definitely a big group of
- 24:27Speaker 2: Widow's Bay, because I saw people doing the Patricia's Party,
- 24:31Speaker 2: quite a bit of that.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Yes. And I was telling Samantha, unfortunately, I haven't seen
- 24:35Speaker 1: Widow's Bay, so I didn't pick up on that.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Which makes me sad, because I'm like, when you see it,
- 24:40Speaker 2: you're going to be like, oh, oh.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Yeah, like looking back.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Because there was definitely a lot of Patricias. Patricia, she's
- 24:50Speaker 2: an it girl.
- 24:52Speaker 1: The it girl. Okay.
- 24:54Speaker 2: I need you to watch it.
- 24:57Speaker 1: I'm happy to watch it. I would love to watch it. Honestly.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Then next year, maybe. I could be like, oh, there
- 25:04Speaker 1: it is.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Well, I was wondering, because I did ask you sinners,
- 25:07Speaker 2: because I know it was last year, but at the
- 25:09Speaker 2: same time, with it coming back with all the Halloween houses,
- 25:12Speaker 2: were the sinners still pretty relevant or big?
- 25:18Speaker 1: Yeah, they still had, I'm pretty sure you saw it
- 25:22Speaker 1: over social media last year, but this year they still
- 25:25Speaker 1: had the kind of installment. Okay, I wonder. Like the
- 25:28Speaker 1: burning and the banjo. Yeah, because some of the cosplay's
- 25:33Speaker 1: costumes get really big and they have like sets.
- 25:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:37Speaker 1: And Sinner's had one last year and they had one
- 25:39Speaker 1: again this year. Nice, nice. Yes, yeah. So this brings
- 25:43Speaker 1: us to kind of my wrap up and just things
- 25:45Speaker 1: that I liked, things that I saw. So this is
- 25:49Speaker 1: the first year I went to the secret food court.
- 25:51Speaker 1: There's a secret food court.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Oh, you did?
- 25:53Speaker 1: Yes. Yeah, it was very on a whim. But I
- 25:58Speaker 1: was stuck in a line and I was like, there's
- 26:00Speaker 1: the secret food court. My friend was like, here we go.
- 26:02Speaker 1: We're going to the.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Secret food court.
- 26:04Speaker 1: And it was really cool. Okay. Good to know. Good
- 26:07Speaker 1: to know. This is the first time I've ever... gone
- 26:13Speaker 1: to the Hilton. I guess there's a trinket exchange in there.
- 26:17Speaker 1: I didn't know that. But it was the final night,
- 26:22Speaker 1: and I didn't want it to end. And I had
- 26:23Speaker 1: one friend that was like, I'll stay up with you.
- 26:25Speaker 1: So I said, let's go do a final walkthrough through
- 26:30Speaker 1: the hotels. And it was such a wonderful adventure. We
- 26:35Speaker 1: saw this huge inflatable Bowser trying to go up the stairs.
- 26:40Speaker 1: It was great. And then we saw this huge inflatable
- 26:44Speaker 1: dragon bigger than the inflatable Bowser trying to get into
- 26:47Speaker 1: the rave. That was fantastic. So we were seeing all
- 26:51Speaker 1: these really fun things. And we ended up at the Hilton. Which,
- 26:59Speaker 1: by the way, not sponsors. I didn't know. At this time.
- 27:03Speaker 1: But yes. Yes, that is where the final stop is.
- 27:08Speaker 1: And there was like an exchange of trinkets. And it
- 27:12Speaker 1: was so cool. I love it. I think it's like,
- 27:16Speaker 1: because a big tradition now is to hand out ribbons
- 27:20Speaker 1: and to hand out little trinkets or something. And I
- 27:25Speaker 1: think it's, you know, it's the final night. I didn't
- 27:27Speaker 1: get rid of all my trinkets.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 27:29Speaker 1: I just put them on a table. And so that
- 27:31Speaker 1: was really cool. I think that was one of my
- 27:33Speaker 1: favorite things I did this year was this random adventure
- 27:36Speaker 1: where I discovered that and there is a lot of
- 27:40Speaker 1: random stuff you can discover there are games that you
- 27:43Speaker 1: can do there's a a popular it's a guy who
- 27:47Speaker 1: has like a mimic chest from dungeons and dragons and
- 27:51Speaker 1: you can like go and roll and see what prize
- 27:53Speaker 1: you get and you can add modifiers if you do
- 27:56Speaker 1: like push-ups or something oh okay yeah you have to
- 27:59Speaker 1: get over a 14 to get something good But yeah,
- 28:05Speaker 1: there's just a bunch of stuff like that that's really
- 28:07Speaker 1: fun that you can stumble on. This year, we put
- 28:10Speaker 1: a sign on our hotel door. That was of Luke Skywalker, obviously.
- 28:14Speaker 1: And we got offerings because of it. People leave stuff
- 28:18Speaker 1: outside of our door.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Yeah, cute.
- 28:20Speaker 1: Yeah, like little trinkets. We got a knitted potholder. Yeah,
- 28:23Speaker 1: that's amazing. Yeah, very, very cool. You can find a
- 28:27Speaker 1: bunch of this stuff online. out and about too. So
- 28:30Speaker 1: I sent Samantha a picture, but I found like a
- 28:33Speaker 1: tiny one wish willow. It has a stick inside of it.
- 28:37Speaker 1: And I found it. Yeah, it was so cool. And
- 28:39Speaker 1: I found it like on one of the elevator notice things. Also, yeah,
- 28:46Speaker 1: the ribbons, if you don't know, people have these ribbons
- 28:48Speaker 1: that you could attach to your badge and that's called
- 28:52Speaker 1: a beard and you can get a really long beard.
- 28:54Speaker 1: And they have a contest on Sunday to see who
- 28:57Speaker 1: has the longest beard. And it's gotten up to 10
- 28:59Speaker 1: stories at least.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that was insane. So there was videos of that.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I was like, whoa. It's wild. So this year, this
- 29:07Speaker 1: is the most ribbons I've ever gotten, which is not
- 29:10Speaker 1: impressive for me. I think the most I've gotten before
- 29:12Speaker 1: this is two. But one of them I got was
- 29:15Speaker 1: from the show Traders, the reality show Traders. And we
- 29:19Speaker 1: were in the elevator with this guy, and he had
- 29:22Speaker 1: all of my friends and I reach into this bag.
- 29:25Speaker 1: And everybody else got... traitor but I got murdered and
- 29:32Speaker 1: then he handed me a letter and it was like
- 29:34Speaker 1: wax sealed and I opened it up and it was
- 29:38Speaker 1: like dear boy whatever you have been murdered sincerely the
- 29:43Speaker 1: council fantastic like moments like that are so fun and
- 29:50Speaker 1: then somebody had like they were throwing these parachutes down
- 29:55Speaker 1: from a top floor and everybody's trying to catch them
- 29:57Speaker 1: and eventually we finally caught one And it just had
- 30:01Speaker 1: a worm, like a worm.
- 30:02Speaker 2: That's funny.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Like you'd get at a fishing store or something. It
- 30:08Speaker 1: was funny, though. So we did catch that.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Nice.
- 30:12Speaker 1: If you go back and listen to last year's, I
- 30:14Speaker 1: talked about how it was fun to have a new
- 30:17Speaker 1: friend and show her around and how it was kind
- 30:21Speaker 1: of rejuvenating. And she came back this year, and it
- 30:23Speaker 1: was still really fun because, you know, last year we
- 30:25Speaker 1: didn't get to do everything.
- 30:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:28Speaker 1: It was nice that she had such a good time.
- 30:31Speaker 1: She came back and this time she's already got her
- 30:33Speaker 1: badge for next year.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Nice. BT dubs, that worm, I think they were fishing
- 30:39Speaker 2: and they caught you.
- 30:40Speaker 1: That's what I thought too.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm pretty sure that the minute you said we
- 30:44Speaker 2: caught one, I was like, no, they caught you.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Because we were trying to figure out if it was
- 30:49Speaker 1: from something. And it's like, I think they're just fishing.
- 30:51Speaker 2: I think they're just fishing.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:53Speaker 2: And they got you.
- 30:54Speaker 1: And they get to watch all of us trying to
- 30:56Speaker 1: catch it.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Like going at it. You know, people were talking about it, like, no.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yeah. I did go one night out of cosplay. Oh?
- 31:06Speaker 1: And I have to say it was actually kind of nice.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I've never, I can't remember the last time I did that.
- 31:11Speaker 1: But it was nice to be able to, that was
- 31:13Speaker 1: the night I took the picture of the J. Jonah Jamesons.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Because it was easier. I didn't have all the stuff. Yeah, yeah,
- 31:20Speaker 1: that's difficult. Yeah, yeah. So that was cool.
- 31:23Speaker 2: But yeah.
- 31:25Speaker 1: I had a good time. I feel really good right now.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Hopefully I don't get COVID.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Cross your fingers.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Cross my fingers. Well, as always, thanks to everybody who
