- 0:13Speaker 1: A crime scene cleaner with stories to tell when sneaking
- 0:18Speaker 1: out goes wrong, and an odd man who turns out
- 0:23Speaker 1: to be a cannibal. Headphones recommended. Listener discretion advised. Welcome
- 0:36Speaker 1: back in everyone, I'm your host, Chad. You're just moments
- 0:40Speaker 1: away from true tales of terror that will leave you breathless,
- 0:46Speaker 1: so brace yourself. This is disturbed. We finally did it.
- 1:14Speaker 1: We're on to twenty twenty one, a new year and
- 1:17Speaker 1: a fresh start, but horror doesn't stop just because of
- 1:22Speaker 1: a date on the calendar, and because of that, we
- 1:25Speaker 1: carry on. Imagine being a crime scene cleanup tech. The
- 1:31Speaker 1: things you'd see on the job would be hard to
- 1:34Speaker 1: describe at times, but luckily we have Reddit user testically
- 1:39Speaker 1: six point twenty to tell us all about his experiences
- 1:43Speaker 1: in the field. Performing this experience is tom Aglio.
- 1:54Speaker 2: To start out, you need a little backstory to show
- 1:56Speaker 2: how I got into this situation. When I got out
- 1:59Speaker 2: of high school around on two thousand and three, finding
- 2:02Speaker 2: a job was difficult, so I took whatever horrible jobs
- 2:05Speaker 2: I could to get by. When I found a job
- 2:08Speaker 2: cleaning fire and water damage full time, I was excited
- 2:11Speaker 2: to have steady income and start saving, but this quickly
- 2:15Speaker 2: turned into a nightmare that I had to endure for
- 2:17Speaker 2: almost two years. The company I worked for put me
- 2:20Speaker 2: on my first job, which was a water damage claim
- 2:23Speaker 2: where a basement flooded with sewage. So after a few
- 2:26Speaker 2: days of work, we finished and it was on to
- 2:28Speaker 2: the next job. My boss then called me into his
- 2:31Speaker 2: office the next morning and told me about a special
- 2:33Speaker 2: crew that he was setting up and asked if I
- 2:35Speaker 2: would be the crew leader, supervising three other guys that
- 2:38Speaker 2: were just hired. I found this strange as I had
- 2:41Speaker 2: only been working there a total of around three days,
- 2:44Speaker 2: but figured my work ethic was already paying off and
- 2:47Speaker 2: I would get a raise. I only made ten an
- 2:50Speaker 2: hour to start. Not only did I not get that raise,
- 2:54Speaker 2: but I got no training in the new position other
- 2:56Speaker 2: than a work van with cleaning material and the phone
- 2:59Speaker 2: numbers for the three new guys that also were hired
- 3:02Speaker 2: in to do fire water damage clean up. The boss
- 3:05Speaker 2: told me what tools were best to use and what
- 3:07Speaker 2: cleaning products to use to sanitize, along with where everything
- 3:11Speaker 2: was located in the van with hazmat suits and respirators,
- 3:15Speaker 2: but he was vague about what kinds of things I
- 3:17Speaker 2: would clean up. He just said the situations were always different,
- 3:20Speaker 2: and I would get detailed instructions each job. He called
- 3:24Speaker 2: my position CSC crew leader. The boss told me that
- 3:27Speaker 2: I would never have to see the deceased, as the
- 3:29Speaker 2: coroner would have the remains gone by the time my
- 3:32Speaker 2: crew got there, and to use my logic to determine
- 3:35Speaker 2: what needed to be removed from the homes and what
- 3:37Speaker 2: could be cleaned. The first job I had in my
- 3:40Speaker 2: new position, which the boss told me about when I
- 3:42Speaker 2: got to the office, was cleaning up the remains of
- 3:44Speaker 2: an elderly man or woman who died in their house.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Had been laying in chair when we arrived. The coroner
- 3:50Speaker 2: had me come inside to show me a few things
- 3:53Speaker 2: that were considered hazardous material and needed to be removed
- 3:56Speaker 2: due to the risk of disease. I guess my boss
- 3:59Speaker 2: knew a few people from the county Coroner's office and
- 4:02Speaker 2: much of the work came from their recommendations. Not only
- 4:05Speaker 2: was the deceased still in the house, but was fully
- 4:08Speaker 2: visible to me and the other guy, and you could
- 4:10Speaker 2: smell the rot.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Through the masks.
- 4:12Speaker 2: As the house had no ac and this was mid June.
- 4:15Speaker 2: The coroner was backed up and waiting on additional people
- 4:18Speaker 2: to show up to load the body as it was
- 4:20Speaker 2: falling apart. And I call it the body because I
- 4:23Speaker 2: honestly couldn't tell if it was male or female and
- 4:26Speaker 2: was trying not to look too long as it was disturbing.
- 4:29Speaker 2: The other three guys I worked with handled it well,
- 4:31Speaker 2: but two got sick from the smell and had to
- 4:33Speaker 2: go outside to puke. We all waited outside after the
- 4:37Speaker 2: coroner showed us the chair, the fluids that leaked into
- 4:39Speaker 2: the carpet, and the basement, where the fluids went through
- 4:42Speaker 2: the subfloor and puddled on some boxes in the basement.
- 4:46Speaker 2: The coroner's support arrived and took the deceased out, and
- 4:49Speaker 2: me and the crew started working. After about five minutes,
- 4:53Speaker 2: weird things started to happen, the first of which was
- 4:55Speaker 2: when I began to disassemble the chair. I had removed
- 4:59Speaker 2: the back of the chain and was putting it into
- 5:01Speaker 2: the special hazmat bags that I was given, and the
- 5:03Speaker 2: base started to rock when I was about ten feet
- 5:06Speaker 2: away putting the bag with the back of the chair
- 5:08Speaker 2: by the front door. Nobody else was in the same
- 5:11Speaker 2: room as the other guys were in the basement, dealing
- 5:13Speaker 2: with moving boxes. I brushed it off and took apart
- 5:16Speaker 2: the base of the chair as much as I could,
- 5:19Speaker 2: and when I got it into the bag, I got
- 5:21Speaker 2: a chill up my back and then began feeling sick.
- 5:24Speaker 2: I just figured it was the shock of what I
- 5:26Speaker 2: was cleaning hitting me and pushed on, even though the
- 5:28Speaker 2: chill was strange, as I was very hot and full
- 5:31Speaker 2: hasmat in June. Next was removing the carpet and assessing
- 5:35Speaker 2: the floor to see if it would be able to
- 5:37Speaker 2: be cleaned or if I had to remove a section
- 5:39Speaker 2: of the floor. So I called the boss to ask him,
- 5:42Speaker 2: and he told me just to pour the special cleaner
- 5:44Speaker 2: on the area to soak into the floorboards and it
- 5:47Speaker 2: would be fine. So I got it out of the
- 5:49Speaker 2: truck where he said it was and brought it inside.
- 5:52Speaker 2: When I got inside, all three of the guys in
- 5:54Speaker 2: the basement were scrambling to get out of the basement,
- 5:57Speaker 2: tripping over each other, and all three ran outside. When
- 6:01Speaker 2: I asked them what was up. All three said there
- 6:03Speaker 2: was someone in the cluttered basement, and they assumed it
- 6:05Speaker 2: was a homeless person or junkie. Detroit has many issues
- 6:09Speaker 2: with these kinds of things. I listened at one of
- 6:12Speaker 2: the open windows to the basement. It's kind of the
- 6:14Speaker 2: first thing we did when we started working, open any
- 6:17Speaker 2: window possible propped the doors open, so maybe someone got
- 6:21Speaker 2: inside then, or possibly before we got there, and was hiding.
- 6:24Speaker 2: After listening a few minutes and hearing nothing, me and
- 6:27Speaker 2: another of the workers went inside, armed with a mag
- 6:30Speaker 2: light and a piece of metal fence post, and searched
- 6:32Speaker 2: the basement. Nothing was down there but the footprints of
- 6:36Speaker 2: the shoe covers we used, But when we started up
- 6:39Speaker 2: the stairs, we heard a horrible hacking cough from somewhere
- 6:42Speaker 2: in the basement. When we looked for it, there was nothing,
- 6:45Speaker 2: but the corner of the basement had a bunch of
- 6:47Speaker 2: dust stirred up like someone was moving things very recently.
- 6:51Speaker 2: That weirded us both out. We called the guys back
- 6:54Speaker 2: in and they got back to the boxes, but all
- 6:56Speaker 2: of them kept feeling like they were being touched while
- 6:58Speaker 2: throwing away material from the boxes that got fluids on them.
- 7:03Speaker 2: I went back to my upstairs job, but found that
- 7:05Speaker 2: the cleaner I put next to the floorboards was gone,
- 7:08Speaker 2: and I started getting frustrated as it was the only
- 7:10Speaker 2: jug I had of this cleaner, and I clearly remember
- 7:13Speaker 2: it being set next to the area before the guys
- 7:16Speaker 2: ran up the stairs and my attention was redirected. I
- 7:20Speaker 2: began to take out trash, figuring I would find it
- 7:22Speaker 2: eventually or the basement. Guys took it from the floor,
- 7:26Speaker 2: and I found it on its side behind the bag
- 7:28Speaker 2: that had the back of the chair. This is impossible.
- 7:31Speaker 2: There were like six other bags in front of this
- 7:33Speaker 2: one near the front door, and this was a gallon
- 7:36Speaker 2: bottle of cleaner. Again I got a chill, but this
- 7:39Speaker 2: one was brought on by what sounded like a whisper
- 7:41Speaker 2: that I could not make out the words to. I
- 7:44Speaker 2: cleaned the floorboards and moved out trash. Job complete. That night,
- 7:49Speaker 2: each member of my crew had a dream about an
- 7:51Speaker 2: older man telling us we were not welcome in his home,
- 7:54Speaker 2: touching his belongings and we need to leave. In my dream,
- 7:57Speaker 2: I was alone in his house the old man and
- 8:00Speaker 2: told me I was destroying his things and he couldn't
- 8:03Speaker 2: replace anything. He was trying to push me out of
- 8:05Speaker 2: his house, but it was like I was ignoring him.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Even when he would push me and scream at me,
- 8:10Speaker 2: no reaction from me. He then threw my cleaner into
- 8:14Speaker 2: the garbage pile I had made by the front door,
- 8:16Speaker 2: exactly where I found it. Two of the three guys
- 8:20Speaker 2: and the crew told me their dreams about the old
- 8:22Speaker 2: man pushing them as they went through boxes of ruined
- 8:25Speaker 2: pictures and other old stuff that needed to be thrown
- 8:27Speaker 2: out due to the risk of disease from his fluids.
- 8:31Speaker 2: They also said it was like they had no control
- 8:33Speaker 2: and were on autopilot. They said they were so sad
- 8:36Speaker 2: but couldn't do anything. The thing that got me about
- 8:39Speaker 2: the dreams of the other two guys was they both
- 8:41Speaker 2: said the man was getting so upset that he began
- 8:44Speaker 2: violently coughing, and that the man kept grabbing their arms
- 8:48Speaker 2: when they would touch boxes or throw things into the trash.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Neither of the guys were in the house when me
- 8:53Speaker 2: and the other guy heard the coughing from the basement.
- 8:56Speaker 2: The guy that went into the basement with me said
- 8:58Speaker 2: he had a dream, but all well he remembered was
- 9:00Speaker 2: waking up sad like he did something wrong and had
- 9:03Speaker 2: a horrible coughing fit, which might just be a coincidence,
- 9:07Speaker 2: but I connected it in my mind as relating to
- 9:09Speaker 2: the other dreams we all talked about it and came
- 9:12Speaker 2: to the conclusion that we were all just having a
- 9:14Speaker 2: reaction to a situation and it was nothing more than
- 9:17Speaker 2: our brains coping with what we had to do. I'm
- 9:20Speaker 2: very into psychology, so I rationalized it the best I could,
- 9:23Speaker 2: and we hoped for better assignments the next day. Next
- 9:26Speaker 2: few jobs were not so bad, cleaning up blood at
- 9:29Speaker 2: a home invasion, no casualty, but huge mess. Then there
- 9:32Speaker 2: was a few other bloody crime scenes with casualties, but
- 9:35Speaker 2: nothing notable happened. About two weeks into the job, we
- 9:39Speaker 2: began to learn the tricks of the trade and were
- 9:41Speaker 2: split into two different groups that I was responsible to
- 9:44Speaker 2: manage as crew leader, so I would have to go
- 9:47Speaker 2: to different sites if the other two guys had an
- 9:49Speaker 2: issue or didn't know what to do. I thought I
- 9:51Speaker 2: was getting used to the job as well as the
- 9:53Speaker 2: other guys, as we had no other experiences like the
- 9:56Speaker 2: first job.
- 9:57Speaker 4: But I was wrong.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Job that there was activity was a suicide of a
- 10:02Speaker 2: man that was middle aged. The coroner had already removed
- 10:05Speaker 2: the body, but it was a mess. The guy had
- 10:08Speaker 2: shot himself with what I think was a large caliber
- 10:10Speaker 2: handgun or shotgun. As the spray was everywhere in the
- 10:14Speaker 2: basement in like a second living room. There were skull
- 10:16Speaker 2: fragments lodged in dry wall, brain matter all over, and
- 10:20Speaker 2: again he was not found for a bit, so the
- 10:22Speaker 2: smell was horrible. To make matters worse, the family of
- 10:26Speaker 2: the man had come over and were crying upstairs, but
- 10:29Speaker 2: the vacuum noise helped to cancel out that. While I
- 10:32Speaker 2: was cleaning, the power to the lights went out and
- 10:34Speaker 2: it was completely pitch black. This was strange because my
- 10:38Speaker 2: vacuum was still powered. My crewmates started screaming at this point,
- 10:42Speaker 2: so I turned off my vacuum and climbed off my ladder.
- 10:45Speaker 2: I thought maybe he touched a wire to the lights,
- 10:47Speaker 2: but when my vacuum unit was turned off, he was
- 10:49Speaker 2: still screaming and I could hear things being knocked over.
- 10:53Speaker 2: I started fumbling around for my flashlight on my tool
- 10:55Speaker 2: belt and yelled for my friend, asking what was going on,
- 10:59Speaker 2: But all I got back was panicked screaming. Then I
- 11:02Speaker 2: saw in the pitch black something darker that was moving
- 11:05Speaker 2: in my direction, and I will admit I freaked out.
- 11:08Speaker 2: I slipped trying to back up, still looking in my
- 11:11Speaker 2: belt for the flashlight and found it. When my back
- 11:13Speaker 2: hit the basement wall, I turned on the light aimed
- 11:16Speaker 2: at the blackest shape I have ever seen, and when
- 11:18Speaker 2: the light turned on, I saw the shape of a
- 11:21Speaker 2: man wearing a flannel shirt, beard and an expression like
- 11:24Speaker 2: he was about to attack me. Then it was just gone.
- 11:29Speaker 2: My crewmate was behind where the entity was, sitting on
- 11:32Speaker 2: the floor, rocking with his hands on his head. When
- 11:35Speaker 2: I approached, he picked up his flashlight off the ground
- 11:38Speaker 2: and turned it on, then ran up the stairs and
- 11:40Speaker 2: outside and threw up. I followed behind him, asking if
- 11:44Speaker 2: he was okay and why he was screaming. I thought
- 11:47Speaker 2: I'd just imagine the entity and the man because his
- 11:50Speaker 2: screaming scared me. But he told me that he was
- 11:53Speaker 2: scrubbing the wall and felt something pulling on something in
- 11:55Speaker 2: his tool belt, and he thought it was me. But
- 11:58Speaker 2: when he turned around, the lights went out and he
- 12:00Speaker 2: was engulfed by what he said was like dark smoke,
- 12:03Speaker 2: and he immediately could not breathe and was struggling to move.
- 12:06Speaker 2: He managed to pull his flashlight out, but it was
- 12:09Speaker 2: knocked out of his hand like his wrist was grabbed
- 12:11Speaker 2: with force, and he managed to scream when he screamed.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Trinkets started falling off an entertainment center that was about
- 12:18Speaker 2: three feet to his side, and the black smoke moved back,
- 12:21Speaker 2: but he was close to passing out from exertion. He
- 12:24Speaker 2: also said he lost hearing and didn't know that any
- 12:26Speaker 2: noise came out when he started screaming, and that the
- 12:29Speaker 2: stuff falling off the shelves was landing on him and
- 12:31Speaker 2: that's why he was covering his head. And he said
- 12:34Speaker 2: it felt like a weight was lifted off him when
- 12:36Speaker 2: the dark smoke backed up, But he felt sick right away,
- 12:39Speaker 2: and the light from my flashlight made the sick feeling increase.
- 12:43Speaker 2: We took an early lunch where he just sat there,
- 12:45Speaker 2: pale as ever and didn't say much other than he
- 12:48Speaker 2: said he breathed in that smoke and didn't feel right.
- 12:50Speaker 2: I got him some gatorade and his color started to
- 12:52Speaker 2: come back. I never told him I saw a man
- 12:55Speaker 2: when I turned on my light because we still needed
- 12:57Speaker 2: to finish, and I didn't want to put that in
- 12:59Speaker 2: his head since he never mentioned seeing it. When we
- 13:02Speaker 2: went back, the lights in the basement were on again.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Half the things that fell from the shelves were back
- 13:08Speaker 2: on the entertainment center and the TV was on baseball.
- 13:11Speaker 2: There was also a different smell in the room, similar
- 13:14Speaker 2: to burnt hair. My worker stayed a half hour, got
- 13:17Speaker 2: sick again and went home for the day, leaving me
- 13:19Speaker 2: alone to finish, which I didn't want to do but
- 13:22Speaker 2: had to do as the other guys had their own job.
- 13:25Speaker 2: After cleaning up everything with my vacuum, I began scrubbing
- 13:29Speaker 2: the old blood, which is hard after it congeals, mixing
- 13:32Speaker 2: brain matter and it's like glue even with the cleaner.
- 13:35Speaker 2: While I was finishing up, I kept seeing the shape
- 13:37Speaker 2: of a person always in the side of my vision.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Each time I would smell that strange burnt hair scent,
- 13:43Speaker 2: and a few times I also felt like a force
- 13:46Speaker 2: was pulling at items on my belt, not sure what item,
- 13:49Speaker 2: as there were several things in my belt. When I
- 13:52Speaker 2: finished the job, I went to use the bathroom upstairs,
- 13:54Speaker 2: and in the hallway. Along the way I heard like
- 13:57Speaker 2: muffled crying or moaning. I froze up and stayed still,
- 14:01Speaker 2: thinking maybe a family member had come back, and when
- 14:03Speaker 2: I panned around there was nothing, but I saw a
- 14:06Speaker 2: picture on the wall of a man with a beard
- 14:08Speaker 2: wearing a flannel. Several other pictures in the hallway of
- 14:11Speaker 2: other scenarios of the same man, different flannels with deer
- 14:15Speaker 2: or fish or family. I had not seen a picture
- 14:18Speaker 2: of that man, as I had not been anywhere else
- 14:19Speaker 2: in the house with a bathroom, nor did I use
- 14:22Speaker 2: the bathroom downstairs, because pulling off the hasmat stuff is
- 14:25Speaker 2: a pain. As I was securing the house, closing all windows,
- 14:29Speaker 2: locking doors, and shutting down every light but the front
- 14:32Speaker 2: porch light, I saw the front curtain move and again
- 14:36Speaker 2: saw the darker than black form in the front window.
- 14:39Speaker 2: The last experience I will share in this thread happened
- 14:42Speaker 2: mid July in a very bad area in Detroit. There
- 14:45Speaker 2: had been an incident where a guy supposedly tried to
- 14:47Speaker 2: abduct the child was stopped by people in the neighborhood
- 14:50Speaker 2: who beat the man very bad, and he escaped to
- 14:53Speaker 2: his house, where the neighborhood people quickly called police and
- 14:56Speaker 2: civilians surrounded the man's house to prevent escape. The police
- 15:00Speaker 2: response time in this area is horrible. The people were
- 15:03Speaker 2: throwing rocks through the man's window and damaged his car.
- 15:07Speaker 2: The man was hurt bad by the mob and was
- 15:09Speaker 2: hurt by a rock or glass and died in the home.
- 15:12Speaker 2: This is assumption by DPD from what the police officer
- 15:15Speaker 2: told me. It was a misunderstanding and the man picked
- 15:18Speaker 2: up a girl that was injured riding her bike, and
- 15:21Speaker 2: some kids that knew her told their parents that the
- 15:23Speaker 2: man was kidnapping her, and people overreacted and the man
- 15:26Speaker 2: was brutally beaten. The cleanup was pretty simple to do.
- 15:30Speaker 2: We secured windows, cleaned up blood and bodily fluid. But
- 15:34Speaker 2: as soon as I entered the house, I just felt
- 15:36Speaker 2: wave after wave of fear and sadness like I never
- 15:40Speaker 2: felt this before, and it hit in waves that made
- 15:43Speaker 2: my legs weak. My working buddy who was there, showed
- 15:46Speaker 2: up late and didn't get the story from the cops
- 15:48Speaker 2: like I did, but experienced the same feelings I had
- 15:52Speaker 2: the whole time we were there. We saw a form
- 15:54Speaker 2: darting around corners like it was watching us then hiding.
- 15:58Speaker 2: It was similar to like a small bit of missed.
- 16:01Speaker 2: We also heard very slight cries for help coming from
- 16:04Speaker 2: several areas in the house, and also what sounded like
- 16:08Speaker 2: please stop and long no a few times from the
- 16:11Speaker 2: crowd came back and yelled at the house also, and
- 16:14Speaker 2: when this was going on, the activity in the house
- 16:17Speaker 2: increased and we could hear running footsteps going up the stairs.
- 16:20Speaker 2: A door slam and it sounded like the front door
- 16:23Speaker 2: would open and close, but we never saw any of
- 16:25Speaker 2: the doors move. The path of the footsteps sounded like
- 16:29Speaker 2: from the front door through the living room to the bathroom,
- 16:32Speaker 2: to stairs to the upstairs bungalow room. The part that
- 16:35Speaker 2: really got me was I could feel the floor impacts
- 16:38Speaker 2: that felt like the vibrations of someone running past me
- 16:41Speaker 2: when I was cleaning the areas, and each time I
- 16:44Speaker 2: would be hit by one of those waves of fear
- 16:46Speaker 2: and sadness. When we left the house, there were a
- 16:49Speaker 2: few people on porches hanging out like as usual during summer,
- 16:52Speaker 2: and the people were still hostile and yelling random things,
- 16:55Speaker 2: but directed at us. As we loaded the van and
- 16:58Speaker 2: took off hazmat suits ignored this. But before we had
- 17:01Speaker 2: loaded all the material from the house into the van
- 17:04Speaker 2: and locked the house, the front door slammed hard enough
- 17:07Speaker 2: to sound like a gunshot, which scared me and my
- 17:09Speaker 2: crew member along with the people on the front porch,
- 17:12Speaker 2: to the point where they went inside. The front door
- 17:14Speaker 2: dead bolt was somehow locked, and we could not get
- 17:17Speaker 2: it open. I think it was a different key than
- 17:19Speaker 2: the knob, so we ended up leaving several boards in
- 17:22Speaker 2: the house that were left over from boarding a few
- 17:24Speaker 2: of the windows. The feeling of relief when I left
- 17:27Speaker 2: the house was like night and day. Inside I was anxious, scared, paranoid,
- 17:32Speaker 2: and just really down, which could be due to knowing
- 17:35Speaker 2: the story. But when I got outside, it was like
- 17:38Speaker 2: flipping a light switch. I immediately felt better, and me
- 17:41Speaker 2: and the other guy and my crew were joking and
- 17:43Speaker 2: laughing about dumb stuff and normal nineteen and twenty year
- 17:46Speaker 2: old shenanigans. I have many of these stories written down
- 17:49Speaker 2: in detail in a journal I started after the first
- 17:52Speaker 2: three months of working at this job. I talked to
- 17:54Speaker 2: the guys on the crew and got other strange stories
- 17:57Speaker 2: from them too. I know that some of this could
- 17:59Speaker 2: very well be formed by my subconscious mind to cope
- 18:02Speaker 2: with traumatic situations, but some of it has no explanation.
- 18:06Speaker 2: And when I hear other members of my crew tell
- 18:09Speaker 2: me their stories and they haven't been influenced by mine,
- 18:12Speaker 2: that is a horse of a different color. When I
- 18:15Speaker 2: have time, I will pull out the journal and give
- 18:17Speaker 2: more of my experiences. The job got way worse when
- 18:20Speaker 2: I started the journal after three months in several experiences
- 18:24Speaker 2: with what I think was paranormal, many situations that stressed
- 18:27Speaker 2: my mental state to the point where my mask of
- 18:30Speaker 2: sanity started to slip. In the end, I worked at
- 18:32Speaker 2: this place for almost two years, and of my crew
- 18:36Speaker 2: all died, two from suicides, one from drug overdose that
- 18:39Speaker 2: could have been intentional, but we will never know. I
- 18:43Speaker 2: just know that when these three guys my age around
- 18:46Speaker 2: nineteen and twenty started this job, all were normal, well
- 18:49Speaker 2: adjusted guys with no cares in the world other than girls,
- 18:53Speaker 2: parties and working. I watched each one of them slowly
- 18:57Speaker 2: drain their joys and passion for life. And I know
- 19:00Speaker 2: this sounds bad, but each one that died was considerate
- 19:04Speaker 2: enough to die in a clean way, most likely so
- 19:07Speaker 2: another person wouldn't have to see the horrible thing that
- 19:11Speaker 2: we all saw so often.

- 20:05Speaker 1: to learn the hard way why it may be a
- 20:07Speaker 1: bad idea to sneak out of the house performing this
- 20:11Speaker 1: experience is Sarah Thomas.
- 20:21Speaker 3: To start this off, I'd like to give a bit
- 20:23Speaker 3: of context. This happened four years ago. I'm a girl,
- 20:27Speaker 3: and at the time this happened, I was twelve going
- 20:31Speaker 3: on thirteen. In just a month or two, the friend
- 20:34Speaker 3: I mentioned in this story was fourteen. At the time.
- 20:38Speaker 3: The friend Sally, who I was staying with that night,
- 20:42Speaker 3: was quite a bit older than me, At least at
- 20:45Speaker 3: the time. The two year age gap was quite big.
- 20:49Speaker 3: At twelve to thirteen years old, I was about to
- 20:51Speaker 3: start my second year of middle school, whereas Sally should
- 20:55Speaker 3: have been about to begin her sophomore year of high school.
- 20:58Speaker 3: I met her in the beginning of my first year
- 21:00Speaker 3: at a new school. She was older than the other
- 21:03Speaker 3: kids in our grade and was considered one of the
- 21:05Speaker 3: popular kids, and I think that was what drew me
- 21:08Speaker 3: to her. At first. We became fast friends, and before
- 21:12Speaker 3: we knew it, we were spending every weekend together. Seriously,
- 21:17Speaker 3: every single weekend. Nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary.
- 21:23Speaker 3: It was your typical Friday night. We carpooled to her
- 21:26Speaker 3: family's apartment after school. I've always been a picky eater,
- 21:30Speaker 3: so when her family had dinner, I didn't eat with them.
- 21:33Speaker 3: I just snacked on the pop tart that I'd stowed
- 21:35Speaker 3: away in my backpack in case they ordered something that
- 21:37Speaker 3: I wouldn't eat. Something to note is that her family
- 21:41Speaker 3: was pretty religious. I wouldn't go as far as to
- 21:44Speaker 3: say they were fanatics, but they didn't allow their kids
- 21:46Speaker 3: to watch horror movies or anything that was rated PG
- 21:49Speaker 3: thirteen or older. It didn't stem from the desire to
- 21:53Speaker 3: protect them from something inappropriate. Sally's mother had an irrational
- 21:57Speaker 3: fear that scary movies had setan messages. We asked to
- 22:02Speaker 3: watch The Purge and her mom obviously said no. After
- 22:06Speaker 3: some negotiating, she agreed to let us watch Hunger Games instead.
- 22:10Speaker 3: After the movie, Sally and I went to hang out
- 22:13Speaker 3: in her room. She put on some music, and being
- 22:16Speaker 3: the age we were, we gave each other makeovers. By
- 22:19Speaker 3: the end of it. We were looking much older than
- 22:22Speaker 3: just twelve and fourteen. This part of the night is
- 22:26Speaker 3: when things started to seem off to me. Despite being
- 22:29Speaker 3: my best friend at the time, she was manipulative and
- 22:33Speaker 3: got off on putting me down. She had a habit
- 22:37Speaker 3: of talking to men online and lying about her age.
- 22:41Speaker 3: She showed me some texts between her and the man
- 22:43Speaker 3: she was talking to. I can't give you an exact
- 22:47Speaker 3: recount of them, but they consisted of him trying to
- 22:49Speaker 3: convince her to meet up with him, and just the
- 22:51Speaker 3: usual things you'd expect from a creep online. According to him,
- 22:56Speaker 3: he was nineteen, tall and blonde with soulfull blue eyes.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Once I saw the text, I asked if she had
- 23:06Speaker 3: a picture of him. Something didn't sit right with me.
- 23:10Speaker 3: After seeing the messages, she showed me what he looked like,
- 23:14Speaker 3: and he was very clearly not nineteen. This man was
- 23:18Speaker 3: at least forty and looked like he lived in his
- 23:20Speaker 3: mother's basement. Then we got a call from him. Sally
- 23:25Speaker 3: answered without hesitation, and when I heard the voice on
- 23:28Speaker 3: the other end of the call, I felt like I
- 23:31Speaker 3: was going to be sick. You're so pretty, why don't
- 23:35Speaker 3: you come meet me?
- 23:36Speaker 4: He asked.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Sally said that she couldn't because she was spending the
- 23:40Speaker 3: night with a friend. The mention of that sparked his interest,
- 23:44Speaker 3: and then he proceeded to try and ask us both
- 23:47Speaker 3: to meet him. Sally, lacking any common sense, said yes.
- 23:54Speaker 3: Thus began her plan for us to sneak out and
- 23:57Speaker 3: walk fifteen blocks to meet him in a deserted McDonald
- 24:00Speaker 3: parking lot. I didn't want to go. I was raised
- 24:04Speaker 3: on stories of what happens to teen girls who meet
- 24:06Speaker 3: random men from the internet in person. But after adamant
- 24:10Speaker 3: pleading from Sally that she didn't feel safe going by herself,
- 24:14Speaker 3: I agreed. We took our phones with us for the walk.
- 24:18Speaker 3: I had a kitchen knife stuffed in my bra in
- 24:20Speaker 3: case something were to happen and I needed to defend myself.
- 24:24Speaker 3: The route we had to take to get there didn't
- 24:26Speaker 3: have very many street lamps and there weren't any houses.
- 24:30Speaker 3: We were surrounded by trees on both sides of us.
- 24:33Speaker 3: When we got to the parking lot, the only car
- 24:36Speaker 3: parked nearby was a black, beat up two thousand Toyota Corolla.
- 24:41Speaker 3: The car was still running when we got there, and
- 24:44Speaker 3: from what we could tell, there was more than one
- 24:47Speaker 3: person inside. The man from the picture got out of
- 24:50Speaker 3: the front passenger seat and left the door open behind
- 24:53Speaker 3: him before approaching us. I turned my flash on so
- 24:57Speaker 3: I could see, and he was obviously on something. I
- 25:01Speaker 3: can't tell you what kind of drug it was for
- 25:03Speaker 3: the life of me, but his eyes were so wide
- 25:07Speaker 3: they looked like they were about to pop out of
- 25:08Speaker 3: his head. He was jittery and kept twitching. I became
- 25:15Speaker 3: very conscious of how big he was, maybe six foot two,
- 25:20Speaker 3: around two hundred eighty pounds for reference. My friend and
- 25:24Speaker 3: I did not look our ages even without make up.
- 25:27Speaker 3: I'm about five to two. My friend was pretty tall,
- 25:30Speaker 3: probably five six or five seven. We were both significantly
- 25:35Speaker 3: smaller than him. The man reached out for us and
- 25:39Speaker 3: caught my friend by the arm. I went to get
- 25:41Speaker 3: my knife as quickly as I could, and that's when
- 25:43Speaker 3: I saw his friends getting out of the car. He
- 25:46Speaker 3: invited us back to his car and offered us boos
- 25:49Speaker 3: and drugs, But after seeing my knife and that I
- 25:52Speaker 3: was ready to call the police, he released my friend.
- 25:55Speaker 3: I took Sally's arm and ran faster than I ever
- 25:58Speaker 3: had in my entire life. We took the long way
- 26:01Speaker 3: home to avoid them finding out where she lived in
- 26:03Speaker 3: case they were following us. Once we got there, her
- 26:07Speaker 3: family was still sound asleep. We locked all the doors,
- 26:11Speaker 3: closed the blinds, and blocked him on everything. There wouldn't
- 26:15Speaker 3: be any sleeping that night. We were constantly peeking out
- 26:18Speaker 3: the window, and to our dismay, the same toyota was
- 26:22Speaker 3: circling around her apartment building, not once, not twice, but
- 26:27Speaker 3: three times. I never mentioned any of this to my
- 26:31Speaker 3: parents out of fear of getting grounded or in trouble.
- 26:34Speaker 3: I'm sixteen now and they still have no clue. I
- 26:37Speaker 3: still get nervous when I see a car similar to
- 26:40Speaker 3: the one from that night. As for Sallie, her parents
- 26:44Speaker 3: never found out either. We agreed to never speak about
- 26:47Speaker 3: it again. Thankfully, she moved into a new house just
- 26:52Speaker 3: a few weeks after that happened. Safe to say, Salie
- 26:55Speaker 3: and I haven't spoken in three years. She was pissed
- 26:59Speaker 3: at me for winning her night, and our friendship didn't
- 27:02Speaker 3: last for long after that. We had a pretty bad
- 27:06Speaker 3: falling out, but looking back on it now, it was
- 27:09Speaker 3: definitely for the better. So to Sally, thank you for
- 27:14Speaker 3: teaching me a very valuable lesson and making me realize
- 27:17Speaker 3: that some people are best just left alone. And to
- 27:20Speaker 3: the man and his friends who tried to prey upon
- 27:22Speaker 3: two young girls, let's not ever fucking meet again.

- 28:23Speaker 1: draw the line between someone who is just odd or
- 28:26Speaker 1: eccentric and someone who is capable of something much darker?
- 28:31Speaker 1: Reddit user Anna Molly Lives had an experience with a
- 28:35Speaker 1: man that was on the wrong side of that line.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Performing this experience is Nicole Goodnight.
- 28:48Speaker 4: A few years ago, I worked at a small local
- 28:50Speaker 4: pet store during college. I was one of two women
- 28:53Speaker 4: who worked there, and we didn't generally work at nights together.
- 28:57Speaker 4: The store kind of specializes in saltwater fish and reptiles
- 29:00Speaker 4: in particular, so it wasn't too odd to have newbie
- 29:04Speaker 4: reptile or aquarium people or people looking to just learn
- 29:07Speaker 4: some more before actually getting a little companion. About a
- 29:11Speaker 4: year into me working there, this one man would come
- 29:13Speaker 4: in and start asking questions about the bearded dragons in particular.
- 29:17Speaker 4: I humored him the first couple times he came in
- 29:19Speaker 4: and answered his questions for an hour and a half
- 29:21Speaker 4: to two hours each time he came in, but then
- 29:25Speaker 4: he just kept coming in, not buying anything, not looking
- 29:30Speaker 4: at other animals, refused to talk to my other coworkers
- 29:33Speaker 4: standing right next to me. He was definitely a dude
- 29:37Speaker 4: with a creepy vibe. But after about the third time
- 29:39Speaker 4: this guy came in and questioned me about bearded dragon
- 29:42Speaker 4: mating habits for an hour, we all started getting uncomfortable.
- 29:47Speaker 4: He knew my schedule. Because we were such a small store.
- 29:50Speaker 4: I would call my friends and tell them to come
- 29:51Speaker 4: hang out at the shop while he was there because
- 29:53Speaker 4: he was just so persistent about talking to me and
- 29:57Speaker 4: only about the bearded dragons. With the occasional do you
- 30:00Speaker 4: have a boyfriend or pickup line. I told him I
- 30:03Speaker 4: wasn't interested each time and told him I had a
- 30:05Speaker 4: boyfriend even though I didn't. At first, we were all
- 30:09Speaker 4: pretty forgiving, chalking it up to social awkwardness, but it
- 30:12Speaker 4: started getting scary when he'd come in look for me,
- 30:16Speaker 4: not find me, but he'd find my car with significant
- 30:19Speaker 4: damage at the time and decorated very obviously my car
- 30:22Speaker 4: back then, and just hang out outside the shop. My
- 30:27Speaker 4: boss managers started telling me to hide out in our
- 30:29Speaker 4: back employees only rat mouse room when he'd come in.
- 30:32Speaker 4: My friends were weirded out. I was getting uncomfortable around him,
- 30:37Speaker 4: and my coworkers were actively trying to curb his enthusiasm
- 30:40Speaker 4: for coming in. I ended up quitting that job about
- 30:44Speaker 4: a month later. I'm watching the news with my dad
- 30:46Speaker 4: and oh, buddy, were we in for a surprise. This
- 30:51Speaker 4: same guy had been escorted off his ex's property in
- 30:54Speaker 4: a local town by police, came back to the house
- 30:57Speaker 4: the same night and murdered her When she didn't show
- 31:01Speaker 4: up for work. Her coworkers called for a welfare chap.
- 31:04Speaker 4: Police get there. He answers the door and tells him
- 31:06Speaker 4: his name is Zeus, which it most definitely was not
- 31:10Speaker 4: his real name. Let's the police in and they found
- 31:13Speaker 4: her in the bathtub on a tarp. They also found
- 31:16Speaker 4: bloody plates, silverware, and pans in her sink. He had
- 31:20Speaker 4: cooked and eaten parts of her heart, liver, and brain.
- 31:24Speaker 4: He's still waiting for trial in our state. And his
- 31:27Speaker 4: interviews clips of newspeople questioning him while the police are
- 31:30Speaker 4: escorting him to court, or just bonkers He tried to
- 31:34Speaker 4: claim demonic possession. At one point, he had previously murdered
- 31:38Speaker 4: two people and had been released from prison before moving
- 31:41Speaker 4: to our area. Trust your instincts about the people you
- 31:44Speaker 4: interact with. People are wild. Let's definitely not meet again.
