- 0:16SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 0:17SPEAKER_14: The audience has been warned what they're about to get into.
- 0:20SPEAKER_14: Welcome to KSJE's Sunday morning wake-up call.
- 0:24SPEAKER_09: That's it.
- 0:25SPEAKER_09: Oh, I'm glad you remembered that.
- 0:26SPEAKER_09: Thank you.
- 0:27SPEAKER_09: You're the woman I've always dreamed of.
- 0:28SPEAKER_14: I completely forgot about it until this very moment.
- 0:31SPEAKER_09: Until we went live.
- 0:33SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I remembered it when I needed to.
- 0:35SPEAKER_09: Well, that's great.
- 0:36SPEAKER_09: Well, listen, we're kind of kind of doing, we're doing I like this super uh heroic.
- 0:41SPEAKER_09: Is that what you said?
- 0:42SPEAKER_09: Yeah, super heroic.
- 0:43SPEAKER_09: I I kind of like that, but we also have some phone-ins, so we don't want to use some of those.
- 0:47SPEAKER_14: Because the real superheroes are our listeners.
- 0:49SPEAKER_09: That's all brand.
- 0:52SPEAKER_09: You themed that perfect.
- 0:54SPEAKER_09: You just gave me goosebumps.
- 0:56SPEAKER_14: I planned this just a little bit.
- 0:58SPEAKER_09: I just got goosebumps big time.
- 1:01SPEAKER_14: Thank you.
- 1:01SPEAKER_09: Uh all right.
- 1:02SPEAKER_09: Well, listen, let's go with our first phone call, which is I think we're gonna have him as a regular caller.
- 1:06SPEAKER_09: And he's a guy I used to work with.
- 1:08SPEAKER_09: Uh but yeah, we let's just give it a listen.
- 1:11SPEAKER_09: This is uh this is George Mattered, otherwise known as George of the Jungle.
- 1:16SPEAKER_06: Here he is.
- 1:17SPEAKER_06: First safe voice message.
- 1:19SPEAKER_10: Hey, General George of the Jungle here.
- 1:21SPEAKER_10: Oh, I just love the general wake-up call.
- 1:25SPEAKER_10: But listen, in the future, could you please kindly refrain from evoking the kind of dramatically horrifying imagery that comes to mind that veritably explodes into the mind?
- 1:37SPEAKER_10: Sort of like when an extra large triple keys for Google making the luxury pizza explodes in another bodily region after you follow it with a chaper of double strength milk of magnesia explodes, I say.
- 1:49SPEAKER_10: When you talk about the time you wore Hisco Pan.
- 1:52SPEAKER_10: I mean, I'm having PTSD.
- 1:54SPEAKER_10: I wake up in a cold sweat with BG songs running through my mind.
- 2:01SPEAKER_10: I can't get the vision out of my mind.
- 2:03SPEAKER_10: It's the kind of thing you just can't unsee, if you know what I mean.
- 2:06SPEAKER_10: But in honor of the mental image of a general in Hisco Pand, I would like to make a special request.
- 2:13SPEAKER_10: I mean, I might as well stop fighting it.
- 2:14SPEAKER_10: Would you please play Lucky Man by Starbucks?
- 2:18SPEAKER_10: And anybody who doesn't know the band Starbucks never worked at an old radio station with records lying around for the 70s.
- 2:24SPEAKER_10: Like you and I did if you remember those crazy days from long ago on 20th Street.
- 2:29SPEAKER_10: And I want you to wear those disco pants when you play that song.
- 2:33SPEAKER_10: And if you have no video feed, just tell us you're wearing disco pants, and we'll take your word for it.
- 2:38SPEAKER_10: Thanks for a great show.
- 2:39SPEAKER_10: Keep up the great work, and I'm so glad to hear that your radio career is staying alive.
- 2:44SPEAKER_04: End of messages, just a little shit, I'm a little bit of a tree.
- 5:18SPEAKER_14: Sorry for the interruption.
- 5:28SPEAKER_14: We are now going into a live call with Mr.
- 5:31SPEAKER_12: George of the Jungle.
- 5:33SPEAKER_12: Are you there, George?
- 5:35SPEAKER_12: Can you hear us?
- 5:37SPEAKER_12: George?
- 5:38SPEAKER_12: George?
- 5:38SPEAKER_12: George, if you can hear us.
- 5:40SPEAKER_12: Oh, my bad.
- 5:41SPEAKER_12: Oh, yep.
- 5:42SPEAKER_12: Hold on.
- 5:43SPEAKER_14: We got the levels up.
- 5:44SPEAKER_14: Can you hear us now, George?
- 5:45SPEAKER_14: One more time.
- 5:46SPEAKER_11: Can you hear me?
- 5:47SPEAKER_14: Oh yeah, we got you.
- 5:48SPEAKER_14: Okay, so this is about my second call ever on this board.
- 5:54SPEAKER_09: Yeah, on the other one we didn't do live.
- 5:56SPEAKER_09: And this we're actually live.
- 5:57SPEAKER_09: This is happening at the time.
- 5:59SPEAKER_14: It happened right at this song.
- 6:00SPEAKER_14: It's only got 20 seconds left.
- 6:01SPEAKER_09: Oh, perfect.
- 6:02SPEAKER_09: Well, George, and we just finished your song that you had requested.
- 6:06SPEAKER_11: Yes, uh, and you know the origination of how I even knew that song existed.
- 6:13SPEAKER_11: I don't.
- 6:14SPEAKER_11: I am an old radio guy, like you.
- 6:19SPEAKER_11: And of course, I'm not as old as you.
- 6:23SPEAKER_11: And I'm not really as radio as you.
- 6:26SPEAKER_11: I mean, you're the general.
- 6:27SPEAKER_11: And at my highest point, I was only maybe a legitimate kernel.
- 6:34SPEAKER_11: You're the general.
- 6:35SPEAKER_11: No, but I was an I worked you you might remember the Rock 1280.
- 6:42SPEAKER_11: K-R-Z-E, K-R-A-Z with an AMFM combo on 20th Street that has long since been an amazing dealership now with what people would know it.
- 6:55SPEAKER_11: But it actually was a radio thing.
- 6:57SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 6:58SPEAKER_11: And they had all these old records in their production room, and I would go play around, and I discovered uh some really great stuff just by playing around with the old record.
- 7:10SPEAKER_09: Well, I tell you, we we are doing we've got a bunch of phone calls that we're gonna take well, a bunch.
- 7:15SPEAKER_09: I see we have a few phone calls that we're gonna that we're gonna take that I did record that people called in making requests, George, and of course you were number one to make you were the first one to request a song.
- 7:25SPEAKER_09: So we uh I am honored.
- 7:27SPEAKER_09: We yeah, well, we tributed what's the word I'm looking for?
- 7:30SPEAKER_14: We uh uh gave you credit.
- 7:32SPEAKER_14: We gave you credit, yeah.
- 7:33SPEAKER_12: We played the call and everything.
- 7:35SPEAKER_12: It was really cool.
- 7:37SPEAKER_12: Yeah, but thank you, George.
- 7:39SPEAKER_09: And honestly, you know, we've got to figure out some way to do this because my phone is linked to my iPad and the iPad comes off.
- 7:45SPEAKER_09: It's a long technical burnout story, so we'll figure out some way.
- 7:48SPEAKER_09: But thank you, George.
- 7:50SPEAKER_11: Back in my day, back in my day, we did it all with a bell telephone and a wire connection to the board.
- 7:57SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 7:57SPEAKER_14: Beautiful.
- 7:59SPEAKER_11: Did you ever did you ever did you ever see that old Sean Connery movie The Rock?
- 8:05SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 8:05SPEAKER_11: Remember when he was with the Navy Shield and they're playing out to uh uh Alcatraz and they're all getting their fancy sophisticated modern Cuba gear ready.
- 8:18SPEAKER_11: And he his old aging gray-haired old James Bond look flipped Nicolas Cage and said, Fucking my guy, we did it all with a pair of flippers and a snorkel.
- 8:30SPEAKER_11: So you and me, we come from the flippers and snorkel day.
- 8:34SPEAKER_11: Absolutely.
- 8:34SPEAKER_11: And Bailey.
- 8:40SPEAKER_09: We're kind of doing uh kind of super uh heroic songs and then uh call-ins.
- 8:47SPEAKER_09: Because our listeners, according to Ren, she had it are super heroic.
- 8:52SPEAKER_14: They are superheroes to us.
- 8:54SPEAKER_11: Wow, it almost has like a Marvel quality about it.
- 8:57SPEAKER_09: Perfect, perfect.
- 8:58SPEAKER_09: All right, George, thanks, man.
- 8:59SPEAKER_09: Appreciate you calling.
- 9:00SPEAKER_09: Okay, keep up the great work, both of you.
- 9:02SPEAKER_09: Thank you.
- 9:03SPEAKER_14: Thank you.
- 9:04SPEAKER_09: Bye-bye.
- 9:04SPEAKER_09: You're welcome.
- 9:05SPEAKER_09: Bye.
- 9:05SPEAKER_14: What a nice dude.
- 9:07SPEAKER_12: He is a cool dude.
- 9:08SPEAKER_14: He knows how to make an entrance.
- 9:13SPEAKER_09: Yeah, he's a good guy.
- 9:15SPEAKER_09: He's and he's funny.
- 9:16SPEAKER_09: I mean, he's funny, funny, funny.
- 9:18SPEAKER_14: Funny, funny dude.
- 9:19SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 9:19SPEAKER_09: Um, very intellectual too.
- 9:21SPEAKER_09: You guys would probably lose me if I just left you two to talk in front of me because he's super smart people.
- 9:29SPEAKER_09: I love to surround myself with super smart people because I I think that it makes me look smart, but really, if you're looking from the outside, it makes me look stupid.
- 9:38SPEAKER_14: But that's okay.
- 9:39SPEAKER_14: It makes you look like the wisest one there.
- 9:41SPEAKER_14: Oh, well.
- 9:41SPEAKER_14: You choose your company wisely.
- 9:44SPEAKER_09: All right, so listen, what are the guys?
- 9:46SPEAKER_09: We got another song ready to go over there.
- 9:49SPEAKER_09: Because I saw you fiddling.
- 9:50SPEAKER_14: Oh, I got it down.
- 9:51SPEAKER_09: Okay, so we're doing our super heroic stuff.
- 9:53SPEAKER_09: Super heroic.
- 9:54SPEAKER_09: And what are we going with next?
- 9:55SPEAKER_14: We're gonna be holding out for a hero with Bonnie Tyler.
- 9:58SPEAKER_14: Oh my god.
- 10:00SPEAKER_04: I mean a hero.
- 14:13SPEAKER_14: What?
- 14:14SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 14:15SPEAKER_09: I don't even you know, I I precisely Maybe we need a hero.
- 14:22SPEAKER_14: Maybe we need to hold out for a hero till the morning light.
- 14:25SPEAKER_09: I could do that.
- 14:26SPEAKER_14: I could do that.
- 14:27SPEAKER_09: I could do that.
- 14:28SPEAKER_09: Um I you know, I I just finished uh recording a show for the female encounters of the lifetime.
- 14:37SPEAKER_09: To where, you know, about once a month they have their mixologists come in, Dr.
- 14:41SPEAKER_09: Dre comes in and mixes his drink.
- 14:43SPEAKER_09: So I'm having a little sex on the beach and probably have had a little too much.
- 14:47SPEAKER_09: Have you ever heard a man say he's had too much sex?
- 14:51SPEAKER_14: I've heard, personally, I've heard any sex on the beach is pretty miserable.
- 14:55SPEAKER_12: There's too much sad.
- 14:58SPEAKER_12: Yeah, that's my point.
- 14:59SPEAKER_09: All the birds watch you.
- 15:01SPEAKER_09: Much less crap on you.
- 15:03SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 15:03SPEAKER_09: I've been crapped on sitting on the beach.

- 16:10SPEAKER_14: Did you see me?
- 16:11SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 16:12SPEAKER_14: Did you read my mind?
- 16:12SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I guess I was just sitting right there.

- 26:26SPEAKER_04: I got the kitchen back if it's the last thing I do.
- 26:30SPEAKER_04: I go walking in a hurricane.
- 26:33SPEAKER_04: I go crawling in a dry rain.
- 26:37SPEAKER_04: I keep stretching till it goes.
- 26:42SPEAKER_04: I got the hell gonna cross the lane I know you're out there running with the net Round and round, who must play when I find it y'all It's just a matter of time that you go Hot in Chatter, dragging you down.
- 27:16SPEAKER_04: Put the chain around your heart, gonna put you in the bow.
- 27:20SPEAKER_04: I go walking in a hair tank I come growing in a dry brain.
- 27:27SPEAKER_04: I keep searching till the gold tank I got the hair below It's my time I got the same old wild shape Hanging out in misery Dota quit you long ago Just back it up and hit the rope I dump the joke it's the two plane I'm hooked on the danger C with the game I go walking in the hurricane I come crawling in the driver I keep searching to the gold train I got a hair I go walking in the hurricane I come crawling in a driver I keep searching to the gold sign I got a hair I go walking in a herti I come crawling in a driver I keep searching to the gold sign I got a hair I go walking in a herd time I come crawling You're listening to the wake up call on 90.9 FM and 103.3 FM at K SJE Farmington New Mexico This is some exciting stuff huh you have one new voice message hi I'm calling about the wake up call I love your show uh Ren and David are just awesome in that um I do like the tributes to the artists that you've been doing David Bowley was my favorite I think so far end of message on the streets on the streets There's a warning on the border there's a lot of sound your last for the homeless man We got kindler gentler machine on him doors we got a very good cover yeah we need to let's you know I want to talk about that because I hope someday Ren that you and I are big enough to tell Spotify to butt a stump.
- 33:31SPEAKER_14: Yeah or they pay us yeah they gotta pay us more or do what we say or hit the road but uh he didn't like their their agenda I guess the whole agenda the people that they let come on he's not a fan of uh some of the podcasters that are pushing uh uh misinformation and anti-vaccine stuff he doesn't like that Spotify potentially has become a platform for misinformation oh that's interesting yeah very interesting well Neil we respect you and uh you know what if we have to just personally go buy your music for a tribute we'll we'll talk about yeah or maybe it's on Apple Music and on a different streaming server yeah yeah yeah I agree we'll we'll figure it out so we're doing um super heroic super heroic I like I like the whole concept of heroes um and I took it kind of literally this is like for me comic book heroes yeah and no I I mean why not you know I yes I have heroes that are not that are real not comic book but um you know some of my growing up I mean you know I shaped my life around Mighty Mouse oh yeah Superman is super super common as being the icon of superheroes like you there's a million different songs called like Where is Superman Waiting on Superman Am I Superman He just represents the ideal of human human like a smart good fast strong guy who always does the right thing and is invincible and is invincible I there's many a time when I wish I was invincible yeah and and actually when I was your age I thought I was nothing's happened to me yet so I must be I haven't died yet I must be immortal right and some of the crap I pulled yeah um so let's what do what else you got what again another one I can tell but I can tell when you're looking at the iPad that you're like how can I work this in the conversation well you know the Queen they did a uh a soundtrack for a movie Freddie Mercury Queen yeah Freddie Mercury did the soundtrack for Flash Flash Gordon I didn't know that you know who Flash Gordon is I do yeah yeah the old science fiction superhero can run a thousand miles an hour or something savior of the universe he inspired George Lucas to do uh Star Wars I didn't know that you didn't oh yeah well now when you see space opera stuff you're like oh that's just like Star Wars but before Star Wars you would go oh that's just like Flash Gordon.
- 36:16SPEAKER_09: Flash Gordon I remember him from younger I wasn't a I I didn't watch a lot of him but he's been around forever since like the 30s I want to say the original Batman I liked because he had a pop belly at the West no body at all.
- 36:31SPEAKER_04: And they danced why doesn't Batman dance anymore we're going old school with Flash I'm ready seemingly there is no reason for these extra has provided any explanation this morning's unprecedented solar eclipse is no cause to bring back his body Clash Clash I love you but we only have fourteen hours to save the earth That's pretty dang super heroic that is that was yeah I felt like I felt like I'd slipped into a comic book for a second.
- 39:25SPEAKER_14: Absolutely with all the people yelling I'm guessing that's from the movie.
- 39:29SPEAKER_09: Well you know I knew uh since this next our next caller our last caller I didn't she she didn't request this song she just invited me to come back and see her again but she busted me I'm busted because uh you know I guess she listened to she listens to this show and she listens to believe it or not mail encounters okay that's how she got started yeah and she got started with the uh when we pulled that April Fool's joke she just thought that was hilarious yeah so she's my kind of person she's the ideal fan yeah exactly but um so I you know I think on either that show or this show I talked about I had been on a diet but then I talked about eating tequitas or taquitos taquitos what do we end up calling taquitos I don't know if they're real food anyway rolled up fried tacos okay there you go yeah they're probably okay there we go but uh anyway so she she called and you know we're inviting people to call and leave good or bad messages so this one's a critical one here we go let's find out you have one new voice message I didn't create qualified I need to record anyway mental hoops she has got your number yeah you're gonna have to jump through a lot of mental hoops before you can accept that a taquito is a salad Dave you gotta be careful who you who you make friends with in what restaurants because now she's not gonna serve you junk food anymore.
- 41:24SPEAKER_09: No my cheat days I believe you're gonna be maybe even maybe even a uh a a maple covered cinnamon roll I don't know but when I have a cheat day man it's a cheat day I mean I go hard I can cheat with the best of them trust me I don't know I don't know why I keep looking at the screen I don't have any particular song cued up you're looking at me with a blank stare.
- 41:47SPEAKER_09: Let's say this it's the uh Sunday morning Sunday morning wake up call.
- 41:54SPEAKER_14: Oh yeah there we go save me Spider-Man there we go Spider Man Spider Man Spider Man.
- 44:01SPEAKER_07: Gentlemen let's broaden our minds Lawrence
- 45:27SPEAKER_04: Bye you want to put it on the book.
- 46:35SPEAKER_02: I think ya we don't come down.
- 47:03SPEAKER_04: No, no, no, gather around.
- 47:12SPEAKER_14: Party Man by Prince.
- 47:14SPEAKER_09: You know, um I I I I adore Prince, but what we were talking about uh off the mic was that the Joker that was Jack Nicholson.
- 47:24SPEAKER_14: Mm-hmm.
- 47:25SPEAKER_14: And uh Jack Nicholson's performance as the Joker inspired Prince to write that Party Man.
- 47:30SPEAKER_14: So that's on the Batman soundtrack, and it's technically the Joker song.
- 47:35SPEAKER_09: And it was and that was with Michael Keaton, who I personally think I don't think Cloud did too bad a job, but I personally think Michael Keaton was the best.
- 47:44SPEAKER_14: Oh, absolutely.
- 47:45SPEAKER_14: And that was really really I would say he's like got the best balance of like Suave, Suave in the daytime, Crime Fighter in the Nighttime.
- 47:56SPEAKER_14: He's like the the ideal comic book Batman.
- 48:01SPEAKER_14: But as far as like who was your favorite recently recently has just been Robert Pattinson as Batman.
- 48:07SPEAKER_09: Was that the latest one?
- 48:09SPEAKER_14: That is the very newest one.
- 48:12SPEAKER_14: Oh I don't blame you.
- 48:15SPEAKER_14: See, because my uh feelings with those early Batman movies, the 1989 one is incredible, it's a great visual feast.
- 48:24SPEAKER_14: Um, but the story is not about Batman.
- 48:28SPEAKER_14: And a lot of comic book readers in the last couple of decades have really embraced the idea that Batman is like, you know, tragic.
- 48:35SPEAKER_14: He's an orphan, he carries a lot of pain and a lot of sadness and a lot of guilt.
- 48:40SPEAKER_14: He can't connect with other people because he's made crime fighting his whole life.
- 48:45SPEAKER_09: So is he always a rich guy out of disguise?
- 48:48SPEAKER_14: Yes, he is.
- 48:49SPEAKER_14: And he uh there's there's the common lore that Batman is his true face.
- 48:55SPEAKER_14: Bruce Wayne is the is the disguise.
- 48:59SPEAKER_14: And Batman is the real him.
- 49:00SPEAKER_14: So that's why I really liked the new one because I feel like it tackled that well.
- 49:04SPEAKER_14: But as far as like an entertaining, like fun movie that you can bring your whole family to, it's not exactly the new one.
- 49:11SPEAKER_09: Okay, so there you go, Ren Rance for the new.
- 49:14SPEAKER_14: Ren Rant, oh, that was I didn't even realize you were getting me on a rant.
- 49:18SPEAKER_09: You know, I still like the old original TV Batman where they have the music and they would hit somebody and you never see them hit, but you see them pow on the screen.
- 49:28SPEAKER_09: Absolutely.
- 49:29SPEAKER_09: You know, come on, that was my all-time.
- 49:31SPEAKER_09: And you used to think it was so stupid when you were watching it, but you just couldn't take your eyes off us.
- 49:35SPEAKER_14: Absolutely, they knew exactly what they were doing.
- 49:38SPEAKER_14: They were being camp.
- 49:39SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's right, that's right.
- 49:41SPEAKER_09: All right, so we're doing super heroic.
- 49:43SPEAKER_09: Super heroic.
- 49:44SPEAKER_09: So what do you got next?
- 49:45SPEAKER_14: I got this one.
- 49:46SPEAKER_14: This one's about a little lesser-known figure.
- 49:49SPEAKER_14: You know, um Superman, we all know and love him.
- 49:51SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 49:52SPEAKER_14: Of course, Clark Kent, Lois Lane, but do you know poor little Jimmy Olsen?
- 49:57SPEAKER_14: Superman's pal, Jimmy Olson.
- 49:59SPEAKER_14: This is the Jimmy Blue.
- 50:02SPEAKER_14: He was, yeah.
- 50:03SPEAKER_14: Superman's best buddy, and he took all the pictures.
- 50:05SPEAKER_14: Well, this is the Jimmy Olson blues.
- 50:08SPEAKER_14: Oh, nice.
- 50:09SPEAKER_14: Maybe Jimmy feels a little bit sad that he's being overshadowed by his superpowered uh co-workers.
- 50:16SPEAKER_14: Oh, nice.
- 50:31SPEAKER_04: I don't think I can in the business.
- 50:40SPEAKER_04: I think I talked my air list I think so beautiful.
- 50:48SPEAKER_04: So this is the ball and two ball.
- 50:58SPEAKER_04: I think that's a bad so bad.
- 51:23SPEAKER_04: We'll be like, I got a party I'm gonna see with my place that I'm telling my wood that I make, straw you're training So we got keep that makes the best way to be my daddy's with the still that's gonna be like a full, I got a mark in the list, make sure the business and the list of powerful to the journalist, we got to be that we're gonna be nobody has to know the mistakes I make.
- 54:43SPEAKER_14: Yeah, you never know.
- 54:45SPEAKER_14: They'll never know.
- 54:47SPEAKER_14: And they'll never know because we're about to say goodbye.
- 54:50SPEAKER_12: Right, it's all over now.
- 54:52SPEAKER_14: It's all over now.
- 54:53SPEAKER_09: It's so funny.
- 54:54SPEAKER_09: I can't say.
- 54:55SPEAKER_09: Uh that looked like your car driving out there, but it's not.
- 54:58SPEAKER_14: No, good thing I better not be.
- 55:00SPEAKER_09: Someone stole it.
- 55:02SPEAKER_09: Maybe we really do have to go.
- 55:04SPEAKER_09: Well, listen, I you know, I this is I don't know, it's been kind of uh an interesting day for me.
- 55:11SPEAKER_09: I, you know, things are changing uh in the big time.
- 55:13SPEAKER_09: I want to really thank the callers.
- 55:16SPEAKER_14: Absolutely, thank you guys for that.
