Latest / Banter with the Boys / F1 2024 Season Recap - Fast Laps with the Boys
Transcript
- 0:00At least up. Let's go.
- 0:02It's time for Banner with the boys.
- 0:13Yo, yo, welcome back to Banter with the boys.
- 0:15Fast laps.
- 0:18I saw you adjust your McLaren hat there as we.
- 0:22I know it's like all the way down here.
- 0:23Wait. Oh, OK.
- 0:24I thought you were making sure everybody could see.
- 0:26Well, I mean, also Aaron constructors champion hat.
- 0:29Yeah, we are champions. We got it.
- 0:32Oh, we are champions. Yeah.
- 0:33Yeah. Of course, Joe, how's it going?
- 0:35It's going great.
- 0:37I'm both equally incredibly happy,
- 0:39incredibly excited and incredibly sad.
- 0:41The season's over.
- 0:44I think when in Abu Dhabi, definitely more
- 0:48not carnage per se, but a bit a bit more eventful
- 0:51than I think I was expecting going in.
- 0:53I didn't I did not expect that much excitement in the first half.
- 0:56Yes. Oh, yes, definitely.
- 0:57I think I think I definitely take Abu Dhabi.
- 0:59I love the track. It's a fun race to watch, but it's usually
- 1:03relatively on the crappy game. It is. It is.
- 1:06But it's usually relatively like boring.
- 1:08The actual race itself. So it was nice.
- 1:10We actually got a bit of action.
- 1:12Looking forward to talking to talking about it.
- 1:14Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:16Well, let's not let's not hold off too much because we just got to get into it.
- 1:20And obviously, we'll talk just a little bit about our thoughts
- 1:23on the end of the season for each team as well.
- 1:25And then obviously wrap up with our, you know, our predictions
- 1:29and where Tyler and Cole race for first stacked up with Joe and I.
- 1:35I wonder where I ended up.
- 1:36Well, let's not talk about it. It's a good idea.
- 1:38It got closer than you think for both races.
- 1:40So it'll be interesting. So stay tuned.
- 1:42But anyway, anyway, with that, Kev, let's head right into our Abu Dhabi recap.
- 1:47And starting off the Abu Dhabi recap, actually, Joe, I did not see quality.
- 1:54So you you just had a couple of bullet points here that you noticed.
- 1:58So why don't you lay those on us? Yeah.
- 2:00Watch it. Try watching every single quality.
- 2:01I, you know, skip the practices, but quality we had.
- 2:06I think the biggest thing next year. Sorry.
- 2:08Not the energy. No, that's great. Finally, I'm not going to be able to do it.
- 2:10I'm going to be able to do it.
- 2:12I'm going to be able to do it. I'm going to be able to do it.
- 2:14I'm going to be able to do it. I'm going to be able to do it.
- 2:16Sorry, not the energy. Finally, I'm going to purchase F1 TV because it seems like it's worth it.
- 2:20Oh, yeah. It's super, super worth it.
- 2:21I love catching the qualities because there's typically some crazy thing that happens.
- 2:26Obviously, you know, it's only an hour long.
- 2:28So, you know, you get you get most of the day back for sure.
- 2:31So I'll say the biggest thing that happened during during quality was turn one.
- 2:35We had a couple of laps deleted and then reinstated.
- 2:38I believe we had Lando or no Oscar and
- 2:42Checos lap they had they had deleted because they went a little too wide on that turn one.
- 2:47Oh, I saw that. It was reinstated.
- 2:49Yeah. So you could see like there was a very, very close for.
- 2:51I mean, it's so close.
- 2:53And then we had Charles and this is actually what knocked him out.
- 2:55He got his lap invalidated, which unfortunately put him in 14th and then just sent
- 2:59because they're comparing Charles and in check.
- 3:02Yes, that's what everybody's like. Yeah, they're uprising.
- 3:04But like there is a it's it's really fine.
- 3:07But there is a difference if you look at both pictures side by side.
- 3:10Yeah, I remember looking at Facebook after the race and someone had posted the side
- 3:14by sides between Charles and Checo.
- 3:16And it was like it was like a blurry big foot picture.
- 3:19And they were like they were like, how could they do this to Charles?
- 3:22Like like it was the same exact line.
- 3:24I was like, you can clearly see a blue line in between the white for Charles
- 3:28versus Checo.
- 3:30It doesn't look good, but it's at least a lot closer.
- 3:33So, yeah. So that was probably the biggest thing that came for it.
- 3:35That knocked out LeClair and he already had a 10 place grid penalty.
- 3:38So just going into the session, it was like not looking good for, you know,
- 3:42the highest that LeClair could get was 10.
- 3:45So it's like this championship could already be over before this race.
- 3:48You've already got to start. Yeah.
- 3:50That's pretty much it, though. That's like the biggest thing.
- 3:53Lewis got knocked out as well.
- 3:54This is I think important as we get into the race recap.
- 3:57Lewis got knocked out early because KMAC setting up for his lap, knocked a
- 4:01bollard into the Mercedes fast lap.
- 4:06Guys. Yeah. OK.
- 4:08They stole that from us.
- 4:09Yeah. Into Lewis's fast lap, just ruining his arrow and, you know, knocking him down
- 4:13to, I think, like 16th or something like that.
- 4:15So another unfortunate Q1 exit for Lewis.
- 4:19But that is what we got for the race. Quali.
- 4:23Yeah, for sure. No, I appreciate that.
- 4:25Just kind of gives us an idea of what happened.
- 4:27Everybody usually forgets about kind of what happens in quali.
- 4:30So I definitely want to make that more of a point going into next season, for sure.
- 4:33Sure. So even some of the practices would be good as well.
- 4:37Yeah. Not that we want to get too long winded on everybody.
- 4:39But yeah, no. I mean, I feel like if something crazy happens in practice,
- 4:43you just got to sometimes sometimes it bleeds into quality.
- 4:45Like if you crash out in practice three, there's a good chance
- 4:48you're affected for for your first qualifying session.
- 4:50So we've seen that a handful of times.
- 4:52And then obviously that was dumb. Wow. I was going to be dumb.
- 4:56I was going to say, you know, obviously quality affects, you know,
- 4:58but possibly the Grand Prix. No, no, really. Good job.
- 5:01Honestly, Mike. Sorry. Beginner at work here.
- 5:04So anyway, with that, let us go into Red Bull. Let's do it.
- 5:09We're just starting with Red Bull because obviously Max winning the WDC.
- 5:14We've already touched on that.
- 5:15Nothing, nothing crazy to say there, but he kind of went for a ride on that first lap.
- 5:21Yes. That first lap was interesting, to say the least.
- 5:25So whose fault is that for you?
- 5:28For me, it's Max. Between Max and Oscar. Yeah.
- 5:31It was Max. And he ended up getting a penalty.
- 5:33He got a 10 second penalty for it,
- 5:35which I'd like to touch on as well as we get closer to the end.
- 5:39Not a time time needs spent on it, but yeah, Max caused a collision with Oscar.
- 5:43He just took the turn poorly.
- 5:45He had a bit of understeer knocked into Oscar.
- 5:47Of course, he won the radio and said there was just nothing I could do.
- 5:49That was just bad luck.
- 5:51And Oscar came back with with the whole, you know, world champion.
- 5:55That's a world champion right there.
- 5:56You know, obviously putting Oscar in last, putting, I think, Max in 10th
- 6:02or something like that. He fell pretty far. Yeah.
- 6:06Yeah. So that was that was the first lap.
- 6:07And then a little further down the grid, Sergio also knocking into Botas
- 6:12and then just ending possibly his last race in F1 with a retirement.
- 6:17I had looked up because it didn't look like his car was that damaged.
- 6:21It looked like he just spun. That's why I was curious.
- 6:23Yeah. So I looked it up earlier today because I was like, I've gotten like no info.
- 6:27So I looked it up and he said, I found out that it was possible
- 6:30that his car was already broken before the race even started.
- 6:33But only he was having trouble.
- 6:35He was having trouble getting into gear at times.
- 6:37Interesting. So when he spun, he was just like, it's I don't care anymore.
- 6:40I'm done. Yeah. Which is.
- 6:43I mean, it sums up his whole year, more or less, right?
- 6:47For sure. His whole year and not career, hopefully.
- 6:52You know what I mean? But like it would suck to go out like that, though.
- 6:55You know, and we'll get into it in the news, but those conversations
- 6:59are going to be had at the end of the season. Yeah.
- 7:02Everybody's already admitted it.
- 7:03So it's it's it's that it's probably the end of Checo and Red Bull.
- 7:07But again, we'll we'll touch on that in a little bit.
- 7:09But I definitely would love to see.
- 7:11I don't love to see is not the right answer, but I think it would be funny
- 7:15to see Checo still have the seat and then everyone has to eat their hats.
- 7:19All of ESPN, F1 TV.
- 7:22But so but Sky Sports, so at Horner and Checo at this point,
- 7:26because they both came out and that's what I think.
- 7:28But I think I think or do you think that's all my Red Bull might.
- 7:30Red Bull might be like, we're going to cycle literally everybody out.
- 7:33They do love the drama.
- 7:34I mean, Liam, I would absolutely not put him in that seat.
- 7:39I think he needs to stay in the V car.
- 7:41You know, it's crazy that I've said this.
- 7:44I feel like a few races already.
- 7:46It's crazy that they're putting Liam in that seat before Yuki.
- 7:50Yeah, no, I would agree. I mean, Yuki was testing.
- 7:53So I did see that.
- 7:55I don't know. Do you think it means anything?
- 7:57Ah, did Liam test in the car?
- 7:59No, Liam tested in.
- 8:02I I if he if he tested in early, I think. Yeah.
- 8:07Did he did Liam test the Red Bull early in the season, though?
- 8:11Early in the season? Yeah, like really early.
- 8:14I can't remember. I don't remember.
- 8:17But either way.
- 8:22I don't know. Yeah, I I think Yuki testing.
- 8:25I mean, they got to test somebody, right?
- 8:26But I think Yuki testing in the car could could absolutely have
- 8:30a factor on the start of next season.
- 8:32Absolutely. And with knowing that these talks are going to happen.
- 8:36Yeah, that's the that's the easiest assumption.
- 8:38I mean, that's that's me being lazy.
- 8:40Yeah, Yuki, you know, he's probably in the car.
- 8:43It's got to be because they have their sources that are telling us.
- 8:46I just can't see the reasoning to do Liam over Yuki. I wouldn't.
- 8:50I think that would be that'd just be a crazy.
- 8:52It's it's it's it seems like they would do it because they've seen Yuki
- 8:58drive for a handful of years now.
- 8:59Liam is still untested.
- 9:01And so they are banking on him being better.
- 9:04Right. Then then Yuki, which is just like, yeah, sure.
- 9:09But Yuki has all this experience.
- 9:11He's I don't know. It just seems weird.
- 9:13He had he was testing in the Red Bull.
- 9:15I just looked it up. Liam tested in the Red Bull last postseason.
- 9:18So last year's postseason.
- 9:21But hasn't been in the Red Bull since.
- 9:23So I don't know if that means and he hasn't shown me enough to put him back in there.
- 9:27No, I mean, to be fair, neither of them have, but they're their best options.
- 9:30I mean, right. Are they, though?
- 9:33I feel better than check.
- 9:34Oh, right. And Vettel coming back.
- 9:36Never. I'm just kidding.
- 9:38Let's just put that to bed.
- 9:40Stop it. Stop it. Down.
- 9:42No, with that, we are actually going to move on to the next team.
- 9:45Now, I do want to make it clear.
- 9:47We are going to have a number of shows this offseason.
- 9:49We don't want to feel like your teams are being cut short.
- 9:53But in an effort to keep this thing at a respectable length here,
- 9:57we do have to go on.
- 9:58Joe's just eyeballing me over here because I'm pretty sure he could go on for three hours.
- 10:03I could. So we got we got plenty more of that coming anyway in the offseason.
- 10:08So don't don't you worry.
- 10:10Ferrari. Not a horrible race from them, obviously.
- 10:15They didn't get what they really ultimately wanted.
- 10:17But the constructors, but they OK, did you think they would battle
- 10:21for the constructors to start this season?
- 10:23I can't remember if we start this season.
- 10:25I got to go back and listen to the first episode now. Right.
- 10:28We should do that for part of that.
- 10:30I mean, I've been to some of our early episodes and early wild takes.
- 10:33That's a good idea.
- 10:34How ridiculous, especially our first episode.
- 10:36We'll do that. We'll look into our first episode and see if we can take some of our takes,
- 10:41especially because now I'm thinking back of it.
- 10:43We had some takes on who would finish in what place and constructors
- 10:46and stuff like that.
- 10:47Um, yeah, going into the race, going into the season, I don't I don't know.
- 10:52I can't I'm pretty sure we had for our at least competing a little bit.
- 10:55I don't know if we had them winning constructors per se.
- 10:58I think in my mind, Max was still, you know, Max and Red Bull were still dominating.
- 11:02We really thought that.
- 11:03Where did Chekhov finish in the I know I'm just throwing everything at you.
- 11:07Where did Chekhov finish in the driver's standings last?
- 11:09I think he finished second.
- 11:11Kev's going to pull it up quick, but I'm pretty sure he finished second.
- 11:13Yeah, yeah, he does. Yeah, second.
- 11:15So we had every reason to believe that Red Bull was going to come out and do it again.
- 11:20I certainly did. Yeah.
- 11:22And with how fast Max and how dominating Max was last year, I mean, it was
- 11:26I mean, it just seemed like a no brainer.
- 11:27It was almost
- 11:29I hate to just like.
- 11:31Cry dynasty right away on things because
- 11:35as Minnesota sports fans here in the States and Minnesota,
- 11:38we've had some pretty bad luck with pro sports teams.
- 11:40I don't know what you're talking about.
- 11:41Running into dynasties.
- 11:42But anyway, the Red Bull seemed like they were well on their way
- 11:46to being that lock almost until McLaren this season really showed something.
- 11:50And it wasn't just McLaren, his Ferrari and a little bit of Mercedes.
- 11:53But we'll get on that. But
- 11:55oh, darn it, I lost my train of thought.
- 11:58Just keep looking at me, Joe. I'll think about it.
- 12:01That didn't work. All right.
- 12:04Unbelievable. I don't know where you're going.
- 12:06Let's talk about more of a Ferrari, though. That's fine.
- 12:08That's disappointing.
- 12:10I'll think about it. But yeah, anyway.
- 12:11Ferrari to three to three. Really good race.
- 12:14I mean, going out with it. So I thought about it.
- 12:18Obviously, I'm rooting for my my orange boys, my papaya boys,
- 12:21every single race. But going into Sunday.
- 12:25I know. I know. Where does it come from?
- 12:26I don't I don't know.
- 12:27Going into Sunday, though, I wanted signs to win the race.
- 12:31I wanted him to have like an epic like why, though, like a prove it point
- 12:35or just because I send off part.
- 12:37It's the send off.
- 12:38I thought Lewis Hamilton. Are you are you like salty about Lewis?
- 12:44No, because Lewis picked picked.
- 12:46He chose to go to. OK. Yeah.
- 12:48That's probably why. That's fair enough.
- 12:50He can still win at Ferrari.
- 12:52I've seen I've seen him win at Mercedes a bunch and going into this race.
- 12:56He was super down on his luck.
- 12:58Like he it seemed like he didn't want to race.
- 13:00So he really wasn't even my mind.
- 13:02I'm really happy how he finished and we'll talk about it.
- 13:03But talking about going into the race, I wanted signs to win.
- 13:07Now, after lap one, that kind of went out the window.
- 13:09And I was like, all right, I need my need Lando to stay in first.
- 13:12Like, that's all that matters at this point.
- 13:14So I'm really happy he got second.
- 13:16That's just because Oscar wrecked. Yes. Yeah. Yeah.
- 13:19He had to carry the team at that point.
- 13:22So I'm really happy signs kept second.
- 13:24It was an incredible drive.
- 13:26Still a really, really strong way to end the season.
- 13:29So he he deserves all the praise. He deserves more than a William.
- 13:32I mean, come on a Williams.
- 13:34I mean, we were all pushing for him to be in that in that red.
- 13:37We'll see. And now potentially might end up being open.
- 13:40You know, like maybe sucks.
- 13:42Yeah. Not that he would have waited this long anyway.
- 13:44No. Yeah. Yeah.
- 13:46You got to lock in a job.
- 13:47It's really hard to like, yeah, be uncertain.
- 13:49And Red Bull has so many people they can pull from.
- 13:52But I mean, yeah.
- 13:56So many people, but not many.
- 13:57I don't know. Not many as qualified as signs, you know, like signs
- 14:00is just the best option out of any of the Red Bull picks, I think right now.
- 14:03Oh, yeah. That's a that's a given.
- 14:06Signs aside, LeClaire.
- 14:09Driving driver over the day, no, no questions asked.
- 14:12Nineteenth to third.
- 14:15What a crazy drive from that's insane.
- 14:19It's great to see him finish a season like that.
- 14:21I mean, they go out with such a dominating drive like that.
- 14:26I hope he I hope he holds like a vendetta now against like
- 14:29just every single team. No, no, not against Lewis, but like
- 14:32I'm kind of referencing the look he gave Lewis at the end of the race.
- 14:37You know, like he gave I don't know if it was like a it just
- 14:40it was just like a kind of like an evil eye look like we're going to come back
- 14:43next year. This car is going to be fast.
- 14:45Like we can do this, right?
- 14:47Because I think it's possible.
- 14:48Obviously, Lando was gone, right?
- 14:50Right. That Ferrari was competitive.
- 14:52Oh, no. And I think Ferrari ended the season
- 14:55a lot more competitive than we thought they were as well.
- 14:57So I think going into next season,
- 15:00there could be a lot of teams at the top.
- 15:02I think Red Bull is not going to be a favorite next year to win the constructors.
- 15:07But I think they'll be absolutely still in the conversation.
- 15:10I mean, with Max, they have to be. Yeah. So.
- 15:15But it's going to be a battle between those top 14 is 100 percent.
- 15:19But yeah, great. Mega drive from LeClaire.
- 15:21Mega drive from for sure. Yeah.
- 15:24But moving right along here, let me pull my my dock back up.
- 15:28Let's move on to McLaren. Let's move on.
- 15:30Yeah. You know what? You're just geeking over there. Go for it.
- 15:33What's what what are you geeking about?
- 15:35Other than the instructors, champions, champions.
- 15:37Last time they were constructors champion was 1998.
- 15:39Neither of the drivers were even born yet.
- 15:41Like, I just get that out of the way. Right.
- 15:44It's pure insanity.
- 15:45Zach Brown looks so happy. Oh, my gosh.
- 15:47I love seeing I love seeing Zach Brown geeking like it's crazy.
- 15:51No. Yeah, that was Piaz here.
- 15:53Unfortunately, really bad hand lap one.
- 15:56He only made it worse than himself.
- 15:57Crashing into Franco gave him another gave him his first
- 16:0010 second during the race.
- 16:01So really, I just wanted to see him get a point.
- 16:04That way we can say he contributed during this win.
- 16:07You got that. And not to say he hasn't contributed in other races
- 16:10because without Piaz, Lando could not have carried it by any means.
- 16:14No, I agree. 100 percent.
- 16:16But it was nice to see him pick up a point so he can kind of come.
- 16:19You know, say he contributed on the project. Exactly.
- 16:23For this race. Yeah. And then.
- 16:25But he's contributed all year.
- 16:26I mean, he's had a great season.
- 16:27His second season and he's already a Constructors champion.
- 16:30But it's scary. Right.
- 16:32Clarence scary. I am.
- 16:34You got to be excited about the prospect of them continuing this
- 16:37in the next season, even.
- 16:38I mean, it's a good chance of that.
- 16:40It's I'm kind of scared, actually, to be honest, because I know.
- 16:44Are you scared of a giant downfall?
- 16:46I am because we've seen it happen before.
- 16:48We've seen it happen to Mercedes.
- 16:50Like we've seen it happen to McLaren.
- 16:52The first Oscars first year, this they started awful.
- 16:55It was so bad.
- 16:57So I'm I am worried about that.
- 16:59I'm really worried about that.
- 17:00I still think they could take it away.
- 17:03I think they're going to next year really strong.
- 17:05So I'm hoping that that what do you do is over.
- 17:07Are you more afraid of like Ferrari at this point than than like Red Bull?
- 17:11Not knowing who could be in that second seat.
- 17:13If it's let's say it's Chacko.
- 17:15Are you more are you more afraid of Ferrari or Red Bull as a McLaren fan?
- 17:20I'm looking at the point of WDC because I honestly
- 17:23I would love to see Lando or Piazzetti.
- 17:25You're still afraid of Max.
- 17:26I'm still afraid of Max.
- 17:28That's probably my biggest threat in terms of teams.
- 17:31Is it Charles time, though?
- 17:32Or do you think I could be an issue with you?
- 17:34As a WDC, I would love to see Lando, Charles and Max.
- 17:38Or let's throw in.
- 17:40I was about to say George, but I mean like maybe Lewis.
- 17:43Yeah, right.
- 17:44You could say George.
- 17:45You really think so.
- 17:46I want to see.
- 17:47We'll get to George.
- 17:48I want to see Leclerc, Lando and Oscar fighting for WDC.
- 17:51Leclerc, Lando and Oscar.
- 17:52I want to see Oscar win the WC in his third year.
- 17:54That would be.
- 17:55That's what you want.
- 17:56I think Max will also be in that group.
- 17:58Yeah, 100%.
- 18:00Until he's done.
- 18:00Yeah, 100%.
- 18:03Or until he's Alonso's age, but he's already
- 18:05said he's not going to do that.
- 18:06Yeah, which is understandable.
- 18:07Alonso's like 70 at this point, right?
- 18:09So he's going to be racing forever.
- 18:12Sorry, Fernando.
- 18:13I'm sorry, Fernando.
- 18:13There was a meme where it said people
- 18:16and great drivers in 2050.
- 18:18And it went through like Max, Lando, Oscar,
- 18:20and it all said retired.
- 18:21And it said Fernando Alonso just won.
- 18:23And he's like, yeah.
- 18:26Yeah, no, that's, he's, I wonder when he's going to retire.
- 18:29He's 43, jeez.
- 18:30Yeah, he's old for the sport.
- 18:31But I mean, Lewis is 40 plus too, isn't he?
- 18:34No, I'm going to date Lewis.
- 18:35I don't think he's at 40 quite yet.
- 18:37I'm going to feel like crap about this in a minute.
- 18:40But he's 39.
- 18:44OK, sorry.
- 18:45He's 39, so he's almost 40 actually.
- 18:46He turns 40 next month.
- 18:48I thought he was a tiny bit younger.
- 18:49You're welcome.
- 18:50I'm right, kind of.
- 18:51OK.
- 18:52But I will be right in a month.
- 18:53Listen to this episode in a month.
- 18:54Oh, he's 40 in a month.
- 18:56Oh, happy birthday, Lewis.
- 18:58Yeah, early birthday.
- 18:59Early birthday.
- 19:00Go get your next championship in Ferrari.
- 19:02Yeah, that'd be great.
- 19:04I don't know.
- 19:04Well, OK.
- 19:06I don't know how you felt.
- 19:08It's OK.
- 19:08Squirrel.
- 19:09I don't know how you felt watching the race.
- 19:11But when Oscar spun out, I got the same feeling
- 19:15I got in Miami with Lando kind of racing for the win,
- 19:19where I was just like a pit in my stomach.
- 19:20I felt sick immediately.
- 19:21I was like, Lando literally has to carry this now.
- 19:23Oh, yeah.
- 19:24And I heard the commentators say, if he wins, it's over.
- 19:27It doesn't matter what the Ferraris do.
- 19:29So I'm like, he just needs to stay in the clean air.
- 19:31You were just on the edge of your seat from turn one.
- 19:33Pretty much, yeah.
- 19:33I think when I got to maybe halfway to 3 quarters,
- 19:37I was more calm because I was like,
- 19:39Lando is handedly kind of taking this.
- 19:41But then if I were to get more calm like that,
- 19:43I'm going to be like, puncture.
- 19:45Oh my god, puncture.
- 19:46Shoot.
- 19:47Yeah.
- 19:47And just start immediately thinking the worst.
- 19:50Yeah, I was like, please don't say it to the car.
- 19:51He's got a line and wins.
- 19:53Yeah, so that's all I kind of have to say for McLaren
- 19:56at the time.
- 19:57I'm really happy for him.
- 19:58It's great to see my favorite team do so well.
- 20:01I don't know.
- 20:02I doubt I'm going to see them do this forever.
- 20:05So it's really nice that I was a fan of them
- 20:07when they were at their peak.
- 20:09And just a final thought for McLaren,
- 20:12I'm really excited to see what Oscar does.
- 20:14He's becoming more of a fan of Oscar than I am of Lando
- 20:17at times.
- 20:18I think he's shown so much potential.
- 20:21His driving, or just like.
- 20:22His driving.
- 20:23And also his attitude, too.
- 20:24Attitude, yeah.
- 20:25Lando's attitude has changed a little bit this year.
- 20:28I respect Lando's pessimism a lot of the time,
- 20:32where he's very hard on himself.
- 20:34Sure, sure.
- 20:35He was cocky a few times, but I think
- 20:37he rightfully can be at times.
- 20:40Oscar's like a mini Kimi Raikkonen,
- 20:42where he just doesn't say anything a lot of the time.
- 20:44He doesn't show emotions.
- 20:45It's just fun to see him get out there racing
- 20:48and come out of the race.
- 20:49And he get two wins.
- 20:50Yeah, he did.
- 20:50He's crazy.
- 20:51Yeah.
- 20:52So that's all I'll say about McLaren.
- 20:53I'll stop gushing.
- 20:54No, it's OK.
- 20:55It's OK.
- 20:56Don't worry.
- 20:56Before we end the show, if I remember anyway,
- 20:58we'll do our entirely, just between me and you,
- 21:02our entirely way too early 2025 predictions.
- 21:05Oh, man.
- 21:06Yeah, just constructors and WDC.
- 21:08Sure.
- 21:08Who's on your heart today.
- 21:09Not official.
- 21:10Not official.
- 21:10Not official.
- 21:11But we'll talk about it a little bit.
- 21:12It'll inevitably come up all off season.
- 21:14Yeah.
- 21:14Mercedes.
- 21:17Mercedes, Mercedes.
- 21:18I mean, and we'll again put down,
- 21:22I mean, Kev, you could put the ticker on now if you want.
- 21:24Just to go over it.
- 21:25You know, people can see the WDC final standings
- 21:28and then the constructors final standings.
- 21:31But Mercedes getting a P4 and P5 this race.
- 21:37Do you read anything into that Hamilton passing George late?
- 21:40Do you think that, do you think George gave that to him?
- 21:44I know that because the commentators are making it
- 21:46sound like a really big deal.
- 21:47And then I didn't actually see it because they didn't show it.
- 21:51So it's, I'm like, did he really drive the crap out
- 21:55of that thing to pass George in the last couple of turns?
- 21:57Or did George let him do it?
- 22:00Was there a team order?
- 22:01Was Lewis just like, I am Mercedes
- 22:03and you're going to remember my name, Sir Lewis Hamilton?
- 22:06You know what I mean?
- 22:06I don't know.
- 22:07I totally know what you mean.
- 22:08It's a great question.
- 22:09I don't have all the answers, but I have like.
- 22:12Get your hat out.
- 22:13OK.
- 22:14Hi.
- 22:15Here's what I think.
- 22:17George was told to keep it clean by Toto.
- 22:21For the whole race.
- 22:22Actually went on the radio.
- 22:23No, no, no.
- 22:23When Lewis was approaching.
- 22:25Oh, I missed it.
- 22:26Toto went onto the radio.
- 22:27Toto himself was like, keep it clean, obviously.
- 22:30We're doing that, Kev, next year.
- 22:31The calm thing.
- 22:32We'll do that.
- 22:32New for 2025.
- 22:33George.
- 22:33Bonehead and then maybe like.
- 22:34Yeah.
- 22:35We'll figure it out.
- 22:36Anyway, sorry.
- 22:36No, you're good.
- 22:37Derail you.
- 22:38George said, that's fine.
- 22:39So I do think he was allowed to race him.
- 22:42I don't know because I didn't see it either.
- 22:44They they cut to Lando winning.
- 22:46I don't know if George made it a lot of a fight,
- 22:49but Lewis sure had to fight getting up to him at least.
- 22:52Like it was the last lap when he passed him.
- 22:54Yeah, no, I was for sure the last.
- 22:56No, I know that for sure.
- 22:57They were just like they were just like freaking out
- 22:59like they were falling off their seat.
- 23:01I think I read passing him on the outside and the in a turn
- 23:04and going so fast.
- 23:07And I was just like, oh, my God.
- 23:08And then Lewis was just in front of them.
- 23:09They cut back.
- 23:10And then George had no chance to catch him.
- 23:12No, the line.
- 23:13And I don't think he would have been able to anyway.
- 23:15I do think I read somewhere where
- 23:16George said that he had to kind of or that it made sense
- 23:20for Lewis to pass him and that Lewis deserve to have passed
- 23:23him.
- 23:23I don't know if I read too much into that either.
- 23:26I don't think George would have fought very hard no matter what.
- 23:29I don't think he has an issue with it.
- 23:30Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 23:31You know, it's the guy's last race,
- 23:32Mercedes, a team that he's been with for 13 years like.
- 23:36Oh, and they are they are like good old chaps.
- 23:41So you know, a little bit British, a little bit, you know.
- 23:44But no, I do think they tolerate each other.
- 23:46I think there's something there, though, that's just like.
- 23:49So some sort of uneven, I would say, attention.
- 23:52But maybe that's just how it is when you.
- 23:55You know, you know, you're performing on an equal level.
- 23:58And I would say that George performed on an equal level
- 24:00as Lewis, if not outperformed him this season, you know.
- 24:03So I think that's just an uneven tension in there.
- 24:06And I think not to bring up McLaren again,
- 24:08but I think that's what we're going
- 24:09to see next season with Lando and Oscar.
- 24:11It's all fun and games, buddy, buddy right now.
- 24:13Just one constructors.
- 24:14That's fun.
- 24:16Each one a few races, you know what I mean?
- 24:18But I think that's that's going to end next year.
- 24:21But anyway, sorry, I don't know.
- 24:23Sorry, I just got excited.
- 24:23Yeah, man, there's a lot to look forward to.
- 24:26I don't. Yeah, I don't think George had anything to gain,
- 24:28you know, for no, I think he's just I think he's just ready.
- 24:32Yeah, I think he's ready.
- 24:33I think this is this what George said, Kev.
- 24:37We're just hard, but fairly.
- 24:38And it came down to the wire ultimate for me.
- 24:40Having these three years together, learn so much.
- 24:41Yeah, I honestly think maybe Lewis is probably one
- 24:43of Georgia's only friends right now.
- 24:45He deserved to finish ahead of me.
- 24:47That's what I read earlier.
- 24:48OK, yeah.
- 24:49So I don't think he probably didn't straight give it to him,
- 24:52but I don't think he probably fought very hard.
- 24:53It just doesn't make sense.
- 24:55You could ruin both your races in instant.
- 24:56I think George is better than that.
- 24:58100 percent. You still got four or five.
- 25:00You still ended the season what?
- 25:01Probably P4 and constructors.
- 25:03Yeah.
- 25:03I can't remember, right?
- 25:05That's sad.
- 25:05Red Bull's going to be.
- 25:07Yeah, Red Bull's going to be in between Ferrari and Mercedes.
- 25:12Yeah, yeah.
- 25:13P4 and constructors by a long shot.
- 25:16Yeah, but they didn't have they were not
- 25:17competing with the other three.
- 25:19No, not at all.
- 25:20But they had a pretty good lead on Aston, though.
- 25:22They did.
- 25:23Oh, yeah, like almost 400 points.
- 25:25Yeah.
- 25:27Yeah, I don't have anything else to say about Mercedes
- 25:29right now currently.
- 25:31Again, there's more coming in the off season.
- 25:32Did you watch the ending of the podium ceremony and stuff?
- 25:35I didn't watch the ceremony.
- 25:37I started looking up.
- 25:38So OK, so.
- 25:42I recorded the race so I could watch it again,
- 25:44because usually I'm trying to like take notes for, you know,
- 25:47for pod, you know, for the show while I'm watching it.
- 25:51And so sometimes I miss stuff or whatever.
- 25:53So I rewatch it again.
- 25:55Well, when I went to rewatch it, I recorded the show, the F1 race.
- 25:59But what it was actually playing was not F1.
- 26:02It was like water polo.
- 26:05And yeah, actually, it was insane.
- 26:07So it recorded two and a half hours of axe throwing and water
- 26:11polo.
- 26:12Watching ESPN at the Ocho.
- 26:14It was.
- 26:15Axe throwing was on the Ocho.
- 26:17That was on instead of the replay of the Abu Dhabi,
- 26:21because that's what I want to record,
- 26:22because I forgot to record the live one.
- 26:24But they replay it usually on Sunday night.
- 26:26So I'm like, perfect.
- 26:27I didn't have it apparently.
- 26:28No, it didn't happen.
- 26:29Listen, it was the water polo championship.
- 26:31How can they not play that instead?
- 26:33I don't think it was.
- 26:35I think it was just a conference water polo game in NCAA.
- 26:39I don't know.
- 26:40That's so funny.
- 26:41But the first one was the Ocho actually.
- 26:42Hey, look, that's us.
- 26:44Oh, yeah.
- 26:46Yeah, right?
- 26:47Oh my god.
- 26:48So anyway, long story short, wow, that was a sidebar.
- 26:54Where was I going with that now?
- 26:55I have no idea.
- 26:57Oh, I asked the podium celebration.
- 26:58Oh, yeah.
- 26:59So I started looking up some videos of post-race interviews
- 27:01and stuff, because I did want to see some things.
- 27:03But I missed the podium.
- 27:04Yeah, it was a night.
- 27:05Lewis got to do his donuts.
- 27:06That was a really long answer.
- 27:07Oh, I did see that.
- 27:08Lewis got to do his donuts.
- 27:09He got to pay homage to the car.
- 27:10And then he just, because he was supposed to do an interview
- 27:13with Terry Crews, I think.
- 27:15But he was lost with his team.
- 27:17Just hugging them.
- 27:18Terry Crews was lost?
- 27:18No.
- 27:19Oh, Lewis.
- 27:20I was like, wait, first off, why does Terry Crews have a team?
- 27:23Terry Crews was lost?
- 27:24Team of Terry Crews?
- 27:25Terry Crews, we still can't find him.
- 27:26If you've seen Terry Crews, please call this number.
- 27:30Oh my god.
- 27:30No, yeah.
- 27:31He would carnage right now.
- 27:32Yeah, no, Lewis Hamilton.
- 27:33He went to the garage, and he just
- 27:34started taking selfies with his team, saying good,
- 27:37hugging everyone.
- 27:38For sure.
- 27:39How do you feel about the donut?
- 27:41I have no issue with it.
- 27:42Oh, is there anyone against the donut?
- 27:45Oh, yeah.
- 27:45No.
- 27:46Yeah, well, this is on the book face, on Meta,
- 27:51on some of the groups that I follow, which is way too
- 27:53many F1 groups.
- 27:54And they all cry and moan and whatever.
- 27:57I want to use other words there.
- 27:59I got you.
- 28:00Yeah, yeah.
- 28:02Same brain cell.
- 28:03Hat situation.
- 28:04No.
- 28:05Darn it.
- 28:06Wow, this is really bad.
- 28:08Book face.
- 28:09Oh, no.
- 28:09They were complaining about the donuts.
- 28:11Like, well, it's not like he's retiring and blah, blah, blah.
- 28:14And like, oh, OK, I see some of that.
- 28:16But he still is like, he made who Mercedes is right now,
- 28:21essentially.
- 28:22You know what I mean?
- 28:23100%.
- 28:23They weren't a whole lot going on when he joined them.
- 28:26So I don't know.
- 28:28I think it was fine.
- 28:29I literally had no issue with it.
- 28:30The fact that some people are making it an issue
- 28:32is just like, OK, you are the people that
- 28:35will not have fun at parties.
- 28:36Yeah, you just like hate fun.
- 28:38For sure.
- 28:38100%.
- 28:39That's what I'm thinking.
- 28:40How often do we see F1 cars doing burnouts or donuts?
- 28:44We don't get to.
- 28:45Yeah, no.
- 28:45We get to see it at the end of the season.
- 28:47That's frowned upon.
- 28:48It's very frowned upon.
- 28:49End of the season or if something's
- 28:50very wrong during a race.
- 28:52Yeah, yeah.
- 28:53Or if Stroll hits a wall and tries to get out of it
- 28:56and beaches it instead.
- 28:57Beaches himself.
- 28:59Yeah, whatever.
- 28:59So I don't have an issue with it.
- 29:00I'm glad you don't either.
- 29:01I thought it was great.
- 29:02Lewis deserves to do it.
- 29:04Yeah, 100%.
- 29:05100%.
- 29:06Let's move on.
- 29:07Let's move on.
- 29:07Let's do it.
- 29:08Let's see.
- 29:08Who do we got?
- 29:09Alpine.
- 29:09Alpine.
- 29:11Alpine.
- 29:12Gasly had a decent race again.
- 29:13He actually finished the season fairly strong.
- 29:17He finished this race P7.
- 29:19But he really finished the season strong.
- 29:23That Alpine.
- 29:24Red Bull's going to buy out Gasly and bring him
- 29:26into the second Red Bull seat.
- 29:27They should.
- 29:28They should.
- 29:29Gasly is impressing me.
- 29:30That'd be so much fun.
- 29:31Impressing me.
- 29:32How much money would that take to throw out Alpine
- 29:34to make that happen?
- 29:35To throw it out.
- 29:36I was going to say Gasly would probably do it.
- 29:36Because that's how that would work, right?
- 29:37They'd have to almost pay Alpine.
- 29:39Because can you even do that?
- 29:40Oh my gosh.
- 29:41It would cost a lot of money.
- 29:43It's not going to happen for P and Gasly.
- 29:45You'd break a contract.
- 29:45No.
- 29:46It's not going to happen.
- 29:46They'd put Yuki in that seat before they did their question.
- 29:48They literally just re-signed him for Malta a year, I think.
- 29:50So it's not going to happen.
- 29:53And he already had his chance, unfortunately.
- 29:54I know.
- 29:55I don't know if they would do it anyway.
- 29:56Either way, that aside.
- 29:58That frustrated me.
- 29:59With the worst car on the grid, seven races ago.
- 30:04Yeah, right.
- 30:05To get points like that and get into six.
- 30:08And there he was right there.
- 30:08He just went the bottom of your screen.
- 30:10He's P10.
- 30:11He's in the points of WDC.
- 30:13That's insane.
- 30:14Ahead of both V-Carb drivers, that's insane.
- 30:18Right?
- 30:18What was that?
- 30:20Time to buy him out.
- 30:22Not even Gasly.
- 30:22Alpine in general, obviously, Oconn wasn't really flexing it.
- 30:25Doohan did nothing this race.
- 30:27But he got some little experience.
- 30:28That's fine.
- 30:29Right.
- 30:29That's totally fine.
- 30:31I'm actually very curious what Alpine's going to do next year.
- 30:34Are they going to compete with the likes of Ferrari?
- 30:36No.
- 30:36And McLaren?
- 30:37No, no, no.
- 30:37No.
- 30:38But I want to be more midfield.
- 30:39It would be fun to see somebody else compete with Aston.
- 30:44And I think Alpine would be the closest to it.
- 30:46Haas isn't that far off either, though.
- 30:48No, they aren't.
- 30:49But they're putting some interesting drivers
- 30:51in their car next year.
- 30:52Yeah, on behalf of Mike, I'm angry.
- 30:54I'll just say that.
- 30:55I'm angry, you know?
- 30:56Why?
- 30:57Because Haas got seventh, right?
- 30:59They beat out Haas.
- 31:01Right.
- 31:01So I'm happy.
- 31:03But on behalf of Mike, I'm not.
- 31:04Oh, on behalf of Mike.
- 31:05Yeah, you did say that.
- 31:06You did say that twice.
- 31:07And I just chose not to listen.
- 31:09In general, it's whatever.
- 31:10I saw red.
- 31:10Sorry.
- 31:11You're good.
- 31:11You're good.
- 31:14Apparently, I bleed Alpine, though.
- 31:16Do you think Alpine can be as strong as they are right now,
- 31:20though?
- 31:20That car.
- 31:21Just like to start the season?
- 31:22I don't know, man.
- 31:23They were so bad to start the season.
- 31:25And I mean, Pierre Gasly also, by the way,
- 31:29finished with costing his team nothing.
- 31:32First driver in F1 history.
- 31:36Really?
- 31:36Allegedly.
- 31:37So I did not double check that.
- 31:40Kev's on it.
- 31:41Kev's the new stack guy.
- 31:42I know that he didn't get any damage this year.
- 31:46And editor and producer.
- 31:47But historically, that's crazy good.
- 31:50Yeah, no.
- 31:51So that's really cool.
- 31:52The Destructors, if you will.
- 31:54The Destructors championship.
- 31:55No, yeah, that's awesome.
- 31:57But no, to start the season, I don't know.
- 32:00Does it make you worried thinking that Chekhov finished
- 32:03first in the Destructors?
- 32:04We should save this for an offseason.
- 32:06We'll talk about Destructors maybe in another offseason
- 32:09episode.
- 32:09I can always talk about Pierre.
- 32:10So that'll be plenty.
- 32:11Oh, Logan's up there.
- 32:12Oh, god.
- 32:12OK, yeah, that's good.
- 32:13Let's stable that.
- 32:14This is good content.
- 32:15We will talk about Destructors in another episode.
- 32:17It's good content.
- 32:18That's a great site.
- 32:21I like the colors.
- 32:22It's a very colorful site.
- 32:23Sorry.
- 32:24I'm getting distracted.
- 32:25Yeah, it makes you think, you got to hope
- 32:26that they didn't put everything they had into fixing
- 32:30their car for this year.
- 32:31I don't think so.
- 32:32And they just come out of the bat not swinging at all.
- 32:34I don't think so.
- 32:34They still feel very confident because they still
- 32:38have the rental power plant for one more year.
- 32:40I feel like it's one more year.
- 32:42No.
- 32:43And then going to Mercedes.
- 32:46I can't remember.
- 32:46Alpine, two Mercedes engines.
- 32:47I don't think it's Ferrari.
- 32:49I think it's Mercedes.
- 32:50I want to say it was 2025, right?
- 32:51If it's Ferrari, no, it is 2026.
- 32:53It is.
- 32:54So they got the rental engine for one more year.
- 32:56I think.
- 32:57I don't know.
- 32:58I think it could be fun because Renault thought
- 33:00before it came out that they were going to go Mercedes.
- 33:03Because that is right.
- 33:04Mercedes 2026.
- 33:05Yes.
- 33:06Yeah.
- 33:06Before that came out, Renault was very confident
- 33:09that they had a competitive 2026 engine.
- 33:13Now you're about to lose your F1s, the only team
- 33:17using your engine in F1.
- 33:18So of course, you're going to come out and say that.
- 33:20But they were very confident that it
- 33:22was going to be something and that they
- 33:24had a valid argument before the Mercedes news came out.
- 33:27So I think next year, French team, French power unit,
- 33:33I think they want to go out with a bang.
- 33:37But to answer your question, though, that you asked, no.
- 33:41I don't think they're going to come out super strong in 2025.
- 33:44Do I want them to?
- 33:45Of course.
- 33:45Hopefully they're fighting low midfield.
- 33:48I think they could still fight only because Haas's drivers
- 33:51have changed.
- 33:52I think you could see Jack fighting Ocon.
- 33:56I think that would be fun.
- 33:59At the moment, Alpine and Haas is
- 34:02going to be fighting V-Carbs again, no way, no how.
- 34:06I think those three teams could absolutely
- 34:08be racing against each other again next season
- 34:10if nothing else changes.
- 34:13Now with the Red Bull stuff, who knows?
- 34:15But put Jacko in a V-Carb.
- 34:18But it says no one.
- 34:21But yeah, anyway, yeah.
- 34:23Hope for the best for Alpine next season.
- 34:25But they ended very strong.
- 34:27They did.
- 34:28And grabbing P6 is absolutely massive for them.
- 34:30I think it's 10 or 12 mil or something extra that they get.
- 34:33So that's huge.
- 34:34It's massive.
- 34:35Yeah, I'm very, very surprised just how they started out
- 34:39them doing as well as it did.
- 34:41If you would have asked me midseason,
- 34:43I would never have placed them in sixth ever.
- 34:45No, absolutely not.
- 34:47I mean, the way it was going, V-Carb
- 34:48should have been there all day with the way
- 34:50he was performing.
- 34:52And then you had Haas, too, that was getting hot.
- 34:54I mean, Nico was pretty dang consistent.
- 34:56He came make it a couple races even, which is,
- 34:59I can't believe I'm saying that.
- 35:01But he had a couple decent races in there.
- 35:04Moving on, Aston, you just put here Alonso did
- 35:07what Alonso does best, defended Piazzari off.
- 35:11Yep, that's pretty much the only thing I got from Aston Martin.
- 35:13Alonso hard defended Piazzari from getting past him.
- 35:17It ruined his tires.
- 35:18And he had to just slide in behind him.
- 35:20If he got past him sooner, Piazzari
- 35:22would have finished ahead of him first off
- 35:24and would have probably gotten more points.
- 35:26So good on Alonso.
- 35:27How old did we say he was?
- 35:2843?
- 35:29Yeah, 43.
- 35:32Is he going to race one year in the 2026 car, you think?
- 35:36Before he would call it a retirement.
- 35:38What is his contract at?
- 35:39Is his contract through 2026?
- 35:40I think it's through 2026.
- 35:41He does like two to three year stuff, I think.
- 35:44Yeah, you and Tyler were mentioning early on
- 35:46that you never really know.
- 35:47Alonso just gets paid and races.
- 35:49He doesn't do super long.
- 35:51I think he just likes the money.
- 35:53But he's good at it, so why stop, I guess.
- 35:57Yeah, he's really hated this car recently.
- 36:01On the radio nonstop complaining about it.
- 36:04This car does not drive in the straights.
- 36:07This is the worst car.
- 36:08That's what makes me wonder how much work Nui
- 36:10is going to have to put into the 2025 car.
- 36:12You'd think, OK, we're going to focus on 2026 almost right out
- 36:16of the gate.
- 36:16But with how many problems they've had,
- 36:19if they want to compete and keep that P5 spot in constructors
- 36:24where it seems like nobody's touching them,
- 36:27you're going to have to fix that car a little bit.
- 36:29Yeah.
- 36:29Because if an Alpine V-Carb or Haas comes out
- 36:32strong out of the gate, maybe they're
- 36:34able to keep that cushion if Aston can't get it together
- 36:37early.
- 36:38I think that's a huge possibility.
- 36:39I don't think.
- 36:40And Lance right now, he's a big question mark.
- 36:43He is.
- 36:43I know we've joked about it.
- 36:45Every F1 fan has probably joked about it,
- 36:47probably since Drive to Survive came out, I'd imagine.
- 36:49Probably didn't help Lance's situation.
- 36:52But I think this is potentially finally a real possibility
- 36:57that they're going to have to pull him out of that car
- 37:00this off season, before the start of 2025.
- 37:03And I know, no, no way that's going to happen.
- 37:05That's my tin foil hat.
- 37:06I think they have to seriously consider it.
- 37:10Yeah, it's hard to believe.
- 37:11I don't think it's that tin foil.
- 37:13It's hard to believe that they would do it.
- 37:14It's not.
- 37:15Everybody's been saying that.
- 37:16It's hard to believe that they would do it,
- 37:17but it's what they need to do.
- 37:19Obviously, the car is not great either.
- 37:21They need to fix it.
- 37:22It's not.
- 37:22For sure.
- 37:23The stroll is not competing to the car's level.
- 37:25And he never really has.
- 37:27So you got to do something about that.
- 37:29I have no idea who they would pick up in his stead.
- 37:32But something's got to change.
- 37:35Valtteri Bottas.
- 37:38That would be cool.
- 37:38I want to see Bottas again.
- 37:40With Alonso would be interesting.
- 37:42Super interesting.
- 37:43Yeah.
- 37:44I don't think Nui is going to be their fix until at least 2026.
- 37:50If not beyond.
- 37:51If not beyond.
- 37:52I don't think he built Roman a day
- 37:54when he worked on the Red Bull.
- 37:56I think it's going to take a while.
- 37:58You could have.
- 37:59For sure.
- 38:00Totally.
- 38:01I believe you.
- 38:01I complete races on the game.
- 38:03You complete them?
- 38:04Yeah.
- 38:05You know what?
- 38:06I forgot I was talking to a professional.
- 38:07That's my bad.
- 38:08I didn't mention the difficulty.
- 38:10I was just saying I completed them.
- 38:12Moving on.
- 38:12Kick, let's see.
- 38:15You said super strong quality for Bottas starting the race
- 38:17in ninth, vying for his first points of the season.
- 38:20Yeah, that was tough to watch.
- 38:21We were really open.
- 38:22What happened on his lockup?
- 38:24I don't know.
- 38:25That was so weird.
- 38:25That was a crazy lockup.
- 38:26That was a little later in the race.
- 38:28He locked up and just fully went to the side of K-Meg.
- 38:31Yeah.
- 38:31He hit K-Meg, spun him around.
- 38:34Which K-Meg got back out on the track.
- 38:36Yeah.
- 38:37Bottas pulled a K-Meg on K-Meg in his last race.
- 38:40But potentially both of their last races or their finish,
- 38:43we don't know.
- 38:44We might not see another Bottas-Buck calendar.
- 38:47We might not see K-Meg on the grid again.
- 38:49No, don't say that.
- 38:49Bottas love hobbies.
- 38:50The calendars would keep coming up.
- 38:51Bottas likes having a hobby.
- 38:53He likes doing that stuff.
- 38:54If you don't know what I'm talking about,
- 38:56please go look it up.
- 38:57Google it.
- 38:57It's pretty hilarious.
- 39:00But yeah, no.
- 39:01And then obviously Joe.
- 39:03We saw him do some donuts.
- 39:04We did see him do some donuts.
- 39:06He did it not in front of any fans and away from cameras,
- 39:09but he did them.
- 39:10That's OK.
- 39:10Yeah.
- 39:10That's OK.
- 39:11I think.
- 39:11He did it for him.
- 39:13I think so, because he doesn't have a seat right now, right?
- 39:17I could be wrong.
- 39:18No, he definitely doesn't have a seat.
- 39:20I think he's staying within the motorsport maybe.
- 39:23I think we see his return at some point.
- 39:26I think he will be given another opportunity.
- 39:28And it's more.
- 39:29I'm hoping he gets a reserve, at least.
- 39:30And it's more along the lines of what you've mentioned
- 39:32is the money, unfortunately.
- 39:34But it's a factor.
- 39:36And actually, going back on a video that Kev sent me today,
- 39:39did he send you the one?
- 39:41Was it an F2 driver, Kev, I believe,
- 39:43that that guy was interviewing from India?
- 39:47And he's like, I can't remember who it was, though.
- 39:50Gosh, I can't remember his name.
- 39:51But his third factor was like, oh, it's totally a factor
- 39:55that I'm from India.
- 39:56I mean, straight up, because F1's a business.
- 40:00And they just want to keep growing that money.
- 40:03Absolutely.
- 40:03Yeah, they want to grow the sport everywhere.
- 40:05That's why I think we're not done seeing Joe yet.
- 40:08I hope not.
- 40:09I don't think he got a fair shot.
- 40:11He didn't.
- 40:12The car wasn't great.
- 40:13And he had some moments in the not great car.
- 40:17He had a few moments.
- 40:18Overall, it was not compelling enough to keep him anywhere,
- 40:22I guess.
- 40:22But it's hard for me to say how much was the car
- 40:26and how much was him.
- 40:27Do you like the Williams car over the kick car, though?
- 40:30In what way, do you think?
- 40:32Do you think the Williams car will outperform the kick car
- 40:34next year?
- 40:35Oh, yeah.
- 40:36Yeah.
- 40:36Not talking drivers, not talking drivers, just the cars.
- 40:41Next year.
- 40:42Yes.
- 40:44OK.
- 40:44So what did Joe win?
- 40:45They have Hulkenberg.
- 40:46And who else is going to kick?
- 40:53Oh, man.
- 40:55We'll think about it.
- 40:57We've talked about suits so much this year.
- 40:59Williams has signs now.
- 41:02They have Albon.
- 41:05We don't have a rookie going to kick, do we?
- 41:06No.
- 41:07Hold on.
- 41:08Stand by.
- 41:08I'm going to figure this out.
- 41:11In general, if the car is anything like it was this year,
- 41:15there's no way the Williams gets outperformed by it.
- 41:17It doesn't matter who's driving what car.
- 41:19I think Albon's been with Williams long enough
- 41:21to know how the car works to be able to drive it.
- 41:23And signs is a competent enough driver.
- 41:26Bortoletto.
- 41:27So it is a rookie.
- 41:28Bortoletto.
- 41:29Yeah, that's right.
- 41:29That's why it didn't come to me.
- 41:33So with that being said.
- 41:34Any sign of multi-year deal?
- 41:34Hulkenberg's the only one that's going
- 41:36to be able to score decent points right out of the gate.
- 41:38And that's if the car is good.
- 41:40Meanwhile, you have two really good drivers in the Williams.
- 41:43Do they, does Kick, that's probably a slap in the face.
- 41:46But does Kick keep Joe on as their reserve?
- 41:49Would you want to stay on and be like, you know,
- 41:52even though, like you said, didn't necessarily
- 41:55get a full fair shot.
- 41:56If I was an F1 driver, if they had asked me to go to reserve
- 42:03or go to a different motorsport, I'm
- 42:04probably going to reserve, right?
- 42:06I mean, it's the pinnacle sport.
- 42:07If you, especially if you've worked up
- 42:09to this point your entire life, you want that chance.
- 42:13Like what if.
- 42:14And who's to say like other teams aren't talking to you
- 42:16on the race weekends.
- 42:17You know, just keeping those conversations going.
- 42:19Yeah.
- 42:20Unless that's considered tampering enough one.
- 42:22I don't know how that works.
- 42:23But I'd imagine you can talk freely to other teams
- 42:26out in the open.
- 42:28So Joe's going to be Ferrari's reserve driver for 2025.
- 42:32I like that.
- 42:33He's expected to be.
- 42:34I don't think it's been.
- 42:35I don't think it has been confirmed yet.
- 42:36I hope he gets that.
- 42:37That would be interesting.
- 42:37Why not?
- 42:38You know?
- 42:39That's interesting.
- 42:39That's an interesting opportunity for him.
- 42:41And he's got a really great opportunity
- 42:43to learn from two really great drivers.
- 42:45One of them obviously a multi-time WDC champion.
- 42:49So interesting.
- 42:50Interesting.
- 42:51Yeah.
- 42:52All right, enough about kick.
- 42:53No offense.
- 42:54Haas.
- 42:55Mike, where are you, buddy?
- 42:57Not crickets.
- 42:58Haas.
- 43:00Hard really to say much about Haas.
- 43:03They had a race and they raced it.
- 43:05Hulkenberg got some points.
- 43:06I hope you're doing that because Mike's your friend.
- 43:09Of course.
- 43:10Hulkenberg, he started behind Gastly.
- 43:13He finished behind Gastly, I think one place.
- 43:15So he raced a consistent race.
- 43:17K-Mag did get into some trouble in some areas.
- 43:20But I don't think most of it was his fault.
- 43:22So I'm just trying to see if he picked up any penalties.
- 43:25I don't think he did.
- 43:26No, he didn't.
- 43:26So they had a race.
- 43:28They raced it.
- 43:29It was as much as they could do.
- 43:30I was definitely hoping.
- 43:31Going into the weekend, because Doohan was taking over
- 43:35Ocon, I was like, there's a possibility, man.
- 43:38Haas could take this.
- 43:40But it just wasn't in the cards.
- 43:42Sorry, I just thought of something ridiculous.
- 43:44What?
- 43:45Nothing.
- 43:46I was like, man, it's sad that K-Mag is done.
- 43:49He's just kind of a gritty driver.
- 43:51And then I put the title of grinder on him.
- 43:53And then I was like, oh, sometimes he grinds too hard,
- 43:56or too much with other people.
- 43:58And I'm like, ah, that's not really what I wanted to go with.
- 44:00But you know what I mean.
- 44:01Sometimes he gets a little too close to people.
- 44:03Sure.
- 44:04Yeah.
- 44:05No, his swan song getting spun out by Boatoss,
- 44:09but it is what it is.
- 44:11Hulkenberg, though, great season for him.
- 44:15Really interested to see what he does in that kick car.
- 44:18I don't think it'll be any better than what Haas can
- 44:21give him, to be honest.
- 44:23Yeah, I mean, if it was anything like this year,
- 44:26there's no way.
- 44:27And obviously, having Bierman and Ocon in there next year
- 44:31is Ocon the right driver to have next to Bierman?
- 44:37So he's a veteran at this point.
- 44:41A veteran at this point.
- 44:42He put that in air quotes.
- 44:43But I mean, by definition, I think he would be.
- 44:47It's good to have.
- 44:48I don't know, man.
- 44:50Ocon's so hit or miss all the time.
- 44:53I know.
- 44:53So it's hard to say.
- 44:56Is he the best person to be teaching a young driver?
- 45:00Definitely not.
- 45:01I mean, he's still young himself, even.
- 45:04But he's there.
- 45:06He knows how to drive the car.
- 45:07He can give off some tips.
- 45:08I, unfortunately, think it's probably
- 45:10just going to be them driving their own race most of the time.
- 45:13For sure.
- 45:13Yep, for sure.
- 45:14So that's kind of how I see it going.
- 45:17I just looked it up because I was curious.
- 45:19Hulkenberg's still kind of in the game.
- 45:21K-Mag's getting booted out.
- 45:22Hulk is five years older than K-Mag.
- 45:24I didn't realize the age.
- 45:25I thought they were both really close in age.
- 45:28But Hulk's 37.
- 45:30That's crazy.
- 45:31For Hulk to have the career he's had so far, which has been.
- 45:34And beat out a couple other drivers for a seat that's open
- 45:37is interesting.
- 45:38He's been relatively not phenomenal.
- 45:41I love Hulk.
- 45:42Don't get me wrong.
- 45:44He hasn't done anything crazy amazing
- 45:46since he first started.
- 45:48So it's 37 and still going.
- 45:51Still competing.
- 45:52He gets that Audi money next year, 2026.
- 45:55That's fun.
- 45:55I am curious to see how that whole situation goes.
- 45:58They probably won't come out of the gate swinging.
- 45:59But hey, you know.
- 46:00Well, they won't.
- 46:01Same with Cadillac.
- 46:02They won't.
- 46:03Yeah, probably not.
- 46:04But is Cadillac set to join 2026, though?
- 46:06Or are they later?
- 46:07Can't remember.
- 46:08I'll look it up.
- 46:09I think it might be 2026.
- 46:10Let's go on to the next team, though.
- 46:12Racing Bulls.
- 46:13We've already really talked about the Racing Bulls
- 46:15and their situation.
- 46:17They should be a little bit disappointed,
- 46:18I think, with the way their season ended.
- 46:24I don't know.
- 46:24Bad.
- 46:25Yeah.
- 46:25Just bad.
- 46:26Liam, no.
- 46:27Bad.
- 46:28Liam, no.
- 46:30Stop doing your best Logan.
- 46:32Yeah.
- 46:33You know what I mean?
- 46:33He picked up a penalty.
- 46:34He picked a stop and go.
- 46:36So this is, we're getting to penalties in a second.
- 46:38He picked up a 10 second stop and go penalty
- 46:40for an unsafe release from the pit lane.
- 46:43Was he the car that did not have his tires on all the way?
- 46:49Who?
- 46:50Am I thinking of a different?
- 46:52Didn't someone leave the pit lane
- 46:53without one of their tires being tightened on all the way?
- 46:56God, that does sound vaguely.
- 46:58And I do think it was a blue car.
- 47:00That does sound right.
- 47:01It could have been.
- 47:02Oh, yeah.
- 47:03I guess, yeah.
- 47:03Yeah, Racing Bulls.
- 47:04Blueish.
- 47:05Fleece.
- 47:06Abu Dhabi.
- 47:07Yeah, I think one of the, yeah, the front left.
- 47:09So literally, no joke, they slotted the wheel on
- 47:14and they did not wheel gun it.
- 47:16And he went off.
- 47:17I don't know how.
- 47:19I don't know how the wheel stayed on, but it did.
- 47:22So he got a 10 second stop and go for that.
- 47:24So he had a pit to fix it.
- 47:26And then he got a 10 second stop and go.
- 47:28There's one fricking nut.
- 47:30They just didn't do it.
- 47:31They just did not.
- 47:32They did not do it.
- 47:33I don't know why.
- 47:34One.
- 47:34Just put it on.
- 47:35Whoop, up, up.
- 47:36Good to go.
- 47:37It was shocking to say the least.
- 47:39It was the first time I've seen that in a long while.
- 47:43I've never seen that.
- 47:44I've seen Haas do it.
- 47:45We've seen Haas do it in DTS before.
- 47:47Yeah, because they were cross-sorting it.
- 47:49Now, they did use the wheel gun, at least.
- 47:51But yeah, I've seen a Haas wheel just fall off.
- 47:54Well, yeah.
- 47:55But you're talking a couple years ago, though, right?
- 47:58I mean, yeah, they started DTS.
- 48:00Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:01OK.
- 48:02So yeah, unfortunately, Lawson picks up the penalty.
- 48:05Not his fault, though, to be fair.
- 48:07That's his team's fault, right?
- 48:10Well, yeah, that, yes.
- 48:11But the rest of the race, yeah, you're right.
- 48:13Not very.
- 48:13The rest of the race, the last few races, honestly, just,
- 48:16I don't know.
- 48:17I think he had one solid race in the last four.
- 48:20Which was not a super good way to end the season for him.
- 48:22Oh, yeah, and then he unfortunately
- 48:23retires at the end of it.
- 48:24Yeah, just a tough race.
- 48:26And then Yuki was not really anything to watch, I guess,
- 48:30unfortunately.
- 48:30No, no.
- 48:31But I think he does have the edge in that Red Bull seat
- 48:33next year, if it is indeed.
- 48:34Yuki or Liam?
- 48:35Yuki, if and it is indeed.
- 48:37We think that.
- 48:37But I know.
- 48:38The commentators know something else, apparently.
- 48:40Why?
- 48:40I don't get it.
- 48:41Would Liam have dirt on Horner?
- 48:42And they just don't want it to get out?
- 48:44More dirt?
- 48:45More dirt?
- 48:46I forgot Horner had that whole thing.
- 48:47There's that reasoning I said earlier in the episode,
- 48:51where they know what you can do.
- 48:53They don't know what Liam can do.
- 48:54So they want to go with the unknown.
- 48:55There's also a darker, more icky reason
- 49:00that involves Helmut that I don't really want to get into.
- 49:04Well, you can't say that and not say it now.
- 49:06I mean, Helmut, he's part of the older generation.
- 49:12OK.
- 49:14So he doesn't like certain people for certain reasons.
- 49:17OK.
- 49:19So that's why they're thinking that Liam would get it over
- 49:22Yuki?
- 49:22I don't think that's the main reason.
- 49:24But it's happened before with Helmut, I think.
- 49:28I mean, maybe that is why Liam's so sought after right now.
- 49:32People think he's racist.
- 49:33That's what I've been trying to say.
- 49:34Yeah, no, no.
- 49:35I got you.
- 49:35I realize it was OK to say that.
- 49:37Why am I trying to save him?
- 49:39He's not a good guy.
- 49:40I can just say it.
- 49:41Yeah, no.
- 49:42You're not a fan of him.
- 49:43I would like to think that that's not the case.
- 49:46But you're right.
- 49:47My other reasons seem so out of this world.
- 49:50I just don't know why they would pick Liam over Yuki.
- 49:52It doesn't make sense.
- 49:53Yeah, no, I agree.
- 49:54Yuki over Liam here at Banter with the Boys all day.
- 49:57Williams, before we close out here of our Grand Prix.
- 50:02I don't know.
- 50:03Not a lot to say about Williams either,
- 50:04other than the fact that they have two pretty experienced
- 50:07drivers coming back for him next season.
- 50:10Yeah.
- 50:10I think that could be fun for them.
- 50:12I think I'd like to see them compete
- 50:15with the likes of Alpine, Haas, and who's the other one?
- 50:19Vicar, like that little grouping that ended the season.
- 50:22I'd like to see them compete in that group next year.
- 50:26But will they?
- 50:27I don't understand what's going on there.
- 50:30Just their history.
- 50:31They seriously need a solid bounce back season.
- 50:34Where did they finish?
- 50:35It's on WDC right now.
- 50:37But I'm looking at the bottom.
- 50:40They finished in ninth.
- 50:42So they finished ahead of Keck, which is not hard to do.
- 50:45And they finished well behind Vicar.
- 50:47Yeah, see, that's a disappointment for me.
- 50:49Pretty big disappointment.
- 50:50I feel like every year we hear people saying,
- 50:52they have a comeback.
- 50:53They don't obviously win races, but they have a comeback.
- 50:55We should see them higher up.
- 50:57They get overhyped a little bit.
- 50:58But I wonder if last season, I feel
- 51:01like they had more points than they did this season.
- 51:03I can check really quickly.
- 51:04That should be pretty easy to look at.
- 51:06Last season, they finished in, hello, computer.
- 51:10They finished in, oh yeah, seventh with 28 points.
- 51:13So only like nine more points, really.
- 51:15But where they're finishing, that
- 51:18could be nine more races that they finished in points.
- 51:22Or nine more races that they actually
- 51:24felt like they were accomplishing something.
- 51:26And they're sponsors.
- 51:27At some point, you got to start producing something.
- 51:31But I mean, landing Carlos Sainz is probably the biggest thing
- 51:34you could have done for Williams.
- 51:36Yeah, I will admit, having Logan early on the season
- 51:39definitely didn't help the car whatsoever.
- 51:42Having Franco later in the season.
- 51:44Yo, that's a problem.
- 51:46That's a problem for Franco.
- 51:47That's not a good look.
- 51:49Yeah, I don't think it's his.
- 51:50I think we're going to see him again.
- 51:51We will.
- 51:51Isn't he a reserve driver next year?
- 51:53Probably.
- 51:54I don't know exactly.
- 51:55But probably.
- 51:57But yeah, he didn't end the season amazing.
- 51:59He did get crashed out.
- 52:00And he did have to retire at the end of this race, which
- 52:02I don't think was really his fault.
- 52:03But overall, he was really good the first stint that he had.
- 52:09And then near the end, he just started making mistakes.
- 52:11Teetering, and it started getting more consistent,
- 52:13the mistakes.
- 52:13Yeah, unfortunately.
- 52:15I'd put Joe in the car over him all day right now.
- 52:17Dang, yeah.
- 52:18100%.
- 52:19I think you're probably.
- 52:19I mean, yeah, no, you're right.
- 52:20Joe at least won't crash it.
- 52:22Let's say an Aston, right?
- 52:23Mid-tier car.
- 52:24Aston.
- 52:25I'm putting Joe in there over who the heck we're talking about.
- 52:29Franco.
- 52:29Franco, there we go.
- 52:30Yeah, no, he won't crash it.
- 52:31So you're totally right.
- 52:32Too many names.
- 52:33We can hope that Williams won't have to spend so much next year
- 52:36on broken cars.
- 52:37So hopefully, and that probably hindered them
- 52:40a lot this season.
- 52:41So hopefully, they can make a step up.
- 52:43100%.
- 52:44We don't really need to do the final standings.
- 52:47Maybe just hit the top three for constructors and drivers,
- 52:50which we already really know.
- 52:51I mean, constructors being what?
- 52:53McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull.
- 52:54Yep.
- 52:55McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull.
- 52:58McLaren with 666 points.
- 53:01Pretty cool.
- 53:01Oh, boy.
- 53:03Mark of the beast.
- 53:04So they're going to win 2025, too.
- 53:06They're going to run the sport now.
- 53:07Oh, maybe.
- 53:08Hey, Ferrari with 652 and then Red Bull at 589.
- 53:13Those were the only three that were ever competing.
- 53:15That's a steep drop to Red Bull even.
- 53:17It is definitely a steep drop.
- 53:18I mean, you had Checo.
- 53:19There was just, you know.
- 53:19Yeah, that's unreal.
- 53:21And then we had Mercedes at 568.
- 53:23468, sorry.
- 53:25And then we get down to under 100 with the rest of the team.
- 53:27Aston, Alpine, Haas, V-Carb.
- 53:30I mean, Haas finishing above V-Carb is great for them, too.
- 53:32That's great.
- 53:34They definitely wish they would have beat Alpine, though.
- 53:36Guaranteed.
- 53:36Definitely.
- 53:37And then in terms of drivers, Max obviously taking it.
- 53:40Lando getting second, Charles in third.
- 53:43Probably, like honestly, if you asked me earlier in the season,
- 53:46that's probably the top three I would have given you, more or less.
- 53:48I might have put in Checo because I wasn't sure how fast the Red
- 53:51Bull was.
- 53:52Well, or how fast Checo was going to be in a Red Bull, I guess.
- 53:56I don't.
- 53:56Yeah, and maybe I do have late 2025 season brain, or 2024 season
- 54:01brain.
- 54:02Dang, you jumped a year.
- 54:03I'm, yeah.
- 54:05Who's four and five in WBC?
- 54:06We have Oscar in fourth.
- 54:08Oscar.
- 54:08Wow.
- 54:09Beating out Carlos by two points.
- 54:11Wow.
- 54:12Think about it.
- 54:12If Oscar did not get, no, he still would have won by one point.
- 54:16Never mind.
- 54:18If he didn't spin out.
- 54:20I was going to say, if he didn't score in this last race,
- 54:23Carlos would have had it, but no.
- 54:24So Oscar in fourth.
- 54:25Beating out Carlos, though.
- 54:27That's interesting.
- 54:27Beating out Carlos.
- 54:28And then we have George and then Lewis, and then Sergio in eighth.
- 54:32And then we kind of get down to under 100
- 54:34with Fernando, Pierre, Nico, Yuki, Lance, Esteban.
- 54:37I've never seen 24 drivers on this record before.
- 54:41Yeah, that's kind of fun.
- 54:42And last, Jack Duann.
- 54:43That was the only one in one race, obviously.
- 54:46Second to last, Logan Sargent.
- 54:47He had a whole half season.
- 54:49Right where he belongs.
- 54:51And then 22nd, unfortunately, Boatoss.
- 54:53That sucks.
- 54:54That's rough.
- 54:55That's, hey.
- 54:56Sorry, Boatoss.
- 54:56Hey, that's rough.
- 54:57We'll see him.
- 54:57We'll see him in the Cadillac.
- 55:00Speaking of, Kev, let's head right to our news.
- 55:04And then to start off our news, Ferrari confirms an engine deal
- 55:19with Cadillac, which I think we already knew
- 55:21was coming for the first two years.
- 55:22And then Cadillac's going to produce their own.
- 55:25Might not even be till 2027, I think, that Cadillac brings.
- 55:28That sounds right.
- 55:29I think.
- 55:29It's something like that.
- 55:31That Cadillac will bring their own power unit.
- 55:34This was interesting.
- 55:35Oh, do you have something on Cadillac?
- 55:36No, no.
- 55:37I was just going to copy you.
- 55:39It was pretty interesting.
- 55:40I would have thought that maybe Merck.
- 55:43I was thinking for a second that, hey,
- 55:45maybe Ford gives them their engine.
- 55:46But I don't think Cadillac would do that.
- 55:48Why?
- 55:49Yeah.
- 55:49They're going to make their own.
- 55:50That's not going to happen.
- 55:53Andrea Stella.
- 55:55Andrea?
- 55:55Andrea?
- 55:57Andrea Stella?
- 55:58I don't know what this is.
- 55:59I don't know what this is.
- 56:00You don't know what this is?
- 56:00No.
- 56:01OK.
- 56:01Andrea Stella coming out with quote,
- 56:04he's calling poison biscuits.
- 56:05So he's just warning team members of McLaren
- 56:08that now that they've won, that there's
- 56:10going to be people trying to put quote, poison biscuits
- 56:14into everything.
- 56:15Not literal.
- 56:16I was going to say, that's metaphorically something?
- 56:17Yes, yes.
- 56:18Trying to get in between everybody
- 56:19or trying to steal people to other teams.
- 56:21He's like, our rival competitors will come in the doors now
- 56:24and try to coax you out and type deal.
- 56:28And he's like, you just need to ignore
- 56:30the poison biscuits, essentially.
- 56:32We got something good.
- 56:33Let's keep it going and see what happens type of deal.
- 56:36So it was just funny.
- 56:37Poison biscuits.
- 56:40Yeah, that's just kind of like the whole don't eat the apple
- 56:43from the garden.
- 56:44They've even kind of made this kind of deal.
- 56:46That's funny.
- 56:47And we've already kind of talked about Chacko,
- 56:49but he kind of admits for the first time publicly
- 56:51that indeed the Red Bull end is kind of near.
- 56:54He was outscored by Max by 285 points.
- 56:57Just a little bit.
- 56:59That's too much.
- 57:00Just a little bit.
- 57:01To be in a Red Bull seat, that's way too much.
- 57:03So that's a little bit.
- 57:04I did not see this.
- 57:05K-Meg going to sports car racing with BMW.
- 57:07That's cool.
- 57:08That is very cool.
- 57:08He's going to be driving the hypercar, the LM2,
- 57:11the Le Mans car, off for BMW.
- 57:13So every year I go to Road American Wisconsin
- 57:16to watch sports car, I have a new person to root for.
- 57:18There you go, K-Meg.
- 57:19Yeah, K-Meg.
- 57:20I actually know one of the drivers.
- 57:22Yeah, you never know anybody.
- 57:23I know Sebastian Bordeaux, but he's famously
- 57:27known for sports cars.
- 57:28So I need drives for Caddy.
- 57:30So yeah.
- 57:31I'll watch three or four MotoGP races in a year.
- 57:35And I'm like, I've heard of two guys.
- 57:37And I'm like, I don't know who any of these people are.
- 57:39Yeah, I watch Road America, and I watch Le Mans,
- 57:41and that's pretty much it.
- 57:42So it'll be nice to see K-Meg.
- 57:43I'll watch the Rolex.
- 57:45Yes, the Rolex is good, too.
- 57:46And I think we're going to probably see Mick Schumacher
- 57:49come into Le Mans as well.
- 57:52That'd be a great win.
- 57:53I think they did that last year.
- 57:55De Vries was racing Le Mans last year.
- 57:57So we'll see F1 drivers pop in.
- 57:58For sure.
- 57:59It'd be so funny to see Max Strijblimmer mid-season F1.
- 58:03That would be crazy.
- 58:04I wonder if he would just straight
- 58:05dominate that, too.
- 58:06I would imagine.
- 58:06Man, I think he'd do good.
- 58:08I don't know if he would straight dominate it,
- 58:09because it's different classes.
- 58:12But I think he would do good.
- 58:14Yeah, it's not open wheel racing.
- 58:16Anyway, before we get to our post-race testing,
- 58:23I just was curious, because we've
- 58:25seen pictures being taken.
- 58:26We've seen reels taken by fans all season of post-race
- 58:31or something.
- 58:31They're filming a scene with Brad Pitt.
- 58:33He won in Abu Dhabi.
- 58:34Crashing.
- 58:35And this week, it was him on the podium.
- 58:37He won.
- 58:37And celebrating.
- 58:38Do you think that was just the race,
- 58:39or do you think he won the championship?
- 58:40I think he may have won the championship.
- 58:41He probably won the championship.
- 58:42That's crazy.
- 58:43But did you see the reel of them filming him
- 58:46stumbling on the track?
- 58:47And then he falls over like a mattress looking thing?
- 58:49Yeah, they have a smoke machine coming from the car.
- 58:50Yeah, I saw that.
- 58:51So anyway, my question is, do you think,
- 58:54this is quote me, by the way, do you think this Brad Pitt
- 58:56movie will be any good, LOL?
- 58:57No.
- 58:59You don't think so?
- 59:00I don't think it'll be good.
- 59:01I'm going to try watching it.
- 59:02I need to get Apple TV.
- 59:03So I'm going to try watching it.
- 59:05Is that where it's going to be?
- 59:06Is it Apple TV?
- 59:06Yeah, it'll be Apple TV.
- 59:06OK, I'm going to have to do it just for this,
- 59:08just to see if it's any good.
- 59:09I mean, they got Brad Pitt.
- 59:11They got Javier Bardem.
- 59:12So they got a little star power.
- 59:14But yeah, I don't think it's going to be good.
- 59:16Brad Pitt is older than Fernando Alonso, no?
- 59:20And he's out here racing in an F1 movie now?
- 59:22I mean, I think that's the thing of the movie.
- 59:24That's the point.
- 59:25That veteran driver.
- 59:26He's coming back as a veteran driver to help out the team,
- 59:29I think.
- 59:29So Lewis has another 10 years yet, probably.
- 59:31Maybe.
- 59:31We're good.
- 59:32He's 39, so we got a minute.
- 59:34It's so trippy to see who was it.
- 59:36Was it Russell and LeClaire on the podium with Brad Pitt,
- 59:39and they were celebrating with them?
- 59:40It was so trippy to see that.
- 59:41I was like, LeClaire just had a great race,
- 59:44and now he's doing this?
- 59:45And I feel like Russell and Max are like, yeah,
- 59:47this is kind of cool.
- 59:48Whatever, it's different.
- 59:49Season's over anyway.
- 59:50It's crazy.
- 59:52Post-race testing, just before we go to our quick wrap up
- 59:55here.
- 59:56It wasn't televised, so I don't have a lot of notes on it.
- 59:58I just read quick headlines.
- 1:00:00These could not be true, just really quick what I read.
- 1:00:03These could be lies is what he said.
- 1:00:04It could be lies.
- 1:00:05Charles overall the fastest.
- 1:00:07So Ferrari's still looking OK with whatever
- 1:00:10they were testing.
- 1:00:11And then Sainz, the fastest of the two in Williams.
- 1:00:14OK, interesting.
- 1:00:16Well, and he was fastest by like a good, well,
- 1:00:19I was going to say a good chunk.
- 1:00:21Like I said, I got headlines.
- 1:00:22I don't know.
- 1:00:233 tenths.
- 1:00:24I don't know.
- 1:00:24I'm not even.
- 1:00:26This is faster than that for next year as well.
- 1:00:29This could be nothing.
- 1:00:30Just that final test.
- 1:00:31You know.
- 1:00:32Yeah, with that kept, let's head right into our wrap up here.
- 1:00:44And this, of course, would normally actually
- 1:00:46be our preview section.
- 1:00:47But there ain't nothing to preview right now.
- 1:00:51Other than off season, it's all we got so much to talk about.
- 1:00:54It's not even funny.
- 1:00:55Yeah.
- 1:00:56Like we'd mentioned, we could talk all for hours, for hours.
- 1:00:59I don't know whether people would listen to us.
- 1:01:01Anyway, going off topic.
- 1:01:03So yeah, no race preview by Joe, period.
- 1:01:05The big sad, period is what I put.
- 1:01:07Big sad.
- 1:01:07I didn't have to do anything today, which was nice, I guess.
- 1:01:09But still, I did have to prep.
- 1:01:11But yeah, it just means we won't have a, I guess,
- 1:01:14like it would have been funny if I came with a Bahrain preview.
- 1:01:18That would have been, I was curious
- 1:01:20if you were going to come up with some random previews
- 1:01:22or just like two sentences about off season or something.
- 1:01:24Oh, I could have done like an off season preview.
- 1:01:26No, no.
- 1:01:27That would have been crazy.
- 1:01:28Because then there would have been high expectations.
- 1:01:30Maybe.
- 1:01:31Or like I'll say like what happened in off season
- 1:01:33last year or something like that.
- 1:01:34Oh my god, that would have been hilarious.
- 1:01:35Yeah, I may be able to do that next year.
- 1:01:36That sounds good.
- 1:01:37So with that, let's head to our prediction championship
- 1:01:40standing really quick.
- 1:01:41We could probably skip this, right?
- 1:01:41Yeah, you would wish.
- 1:01:43I do.
- 1:01:44With the events that transpired this weekend,
- 1:01:47we'll go from the bottom up.
- 1:01:49Why?
- 1:01:49So finishing with 37 points.
- 1:01:52Let's go.
- 1:01:53Finishing in fourth place out of four.
- 1:01:57And then Smeltzi, me, finishing with 38 points.
- 1:02:02No.
- 1:02:02Only one above you.
- 1:02:03You gained one on me.
- 1:02:04But you lost one on me like two weeks ago.
- 1:02:06Otherwise, you would have like tied me.
- 1:02:08That's crazy.
- 1:02:09That's crazy.
- 1:02:09And then our championship race coming down
- 1:02:13to the last race of the season.
- 1:02:15Kev's over here drum rolling.
- 1:02:17Thailand cold tide.
- 1:02:19No.
- 1:02:19Did they really?
- 1:02:20They tied at 48 points a piece.
- 1:02:22We do not have a tiebreaker.
- 1:02:24This sucks.
- 1:02:24We don't have a head to head.
- 1:02:25We don't have anything crazy.
- 1:02:27I guess I could have win like who got the most bonus points
- 1:02:31than the other.
- 1:02:32I did.
- 1:02:33Who got the bonus point question right more times.
- 1:02:35I did mention last week that I think one of them
- 1:02:38had picked their predictions.
- 1:02:40They kind of matched each other a little too much.
- 1:02:42So this could have inevitably happened.
- 1:02:44Yeah.
- 1:02:44Well, maybe we'll find a winner and then announce it.
- 1:02:46But I'm happy with them tying.
- 1:02:47Yeah, if we somehow go through it.
- 1:02:50Does that mean they both got first and they both got second?
- 1:02:52Because one of them makes me feel a little bit better.
- 1:02:53They both got second.
- 1:02:54Thank God.
- 1:02:55Nobody won this year.
- 1:02:56Nice.
- 1:02:56Wank, wank.
- 1:02:57We got to play again next year.
- 1:02:59You know what?
- 1:02:59The viewers win.
- 1:03:00But to them, oh yeah.
- 1:03:02Our listeners win.
- 1:03:02A little.
- 1:03:03First.
- 1:03:03Yeah.
- 1:03:05We retired the number one for our fans.
- 1:03:08So no car up here will ever win number one.
- 1:03:11What do you know what I mean?
- 1:03:12Anyway, let's see.
- 1:03:14OK, the last thing.
- 1:03:15Standout moment of the season.
- 1:03:17I don't know if it has to define the season for you, per se.
- 1:03:21But I mean, I guess that's what a standout moment would be.
- 1:03:23But what was a big moment for you this season?
- 1:03:26The moment that I think I'd probably always go back to,
- 1:03:28and because of the way I felt during it as well,
- 1:03:31was probably Miami and Lando's first win.
- 1:03:34Really?
- 1:03:34I just remember feeling sick during that entire race.
- 1:03:36It definitely wasn't the best race of the season.
- 1:03:38But it's the moment that I keep going back to, I think.
- 1:03:41For sure.
- 1:03:42Yeah.
- 1:03:42Fair enough.
- 1:03:43How about you?
- 1:03:43I mean, I'm not a fan of Ferrari.
- 1:03:45But honestly, it was Charles winning at Monaco.
- 1:03:48I thought that was so cool.
- 1:03:50I mean, finally.
- 1:03:52Obviously, he was just so emotional about it.
- 1:03:53And I just thought that was a cool moment.
- 1:03:55And for Ferrari, who wasn't really expecting
- 1:03:57to be doing too much this year, and now they ended up
- 1:04:00finishing P2 in Constructors, it's just insane.
- 1:04:03So I don't know.
- 1:04:04I thought that was a big moment for the season for me,
- 1:04:06for sure.
- 1:04:08Normally, we would have asked Tyler and Cole,
- 1:04:09but they're not here with us to hang out today.
- 1:04:12So maybe we'll get that and let you know.
- 1:04:14But man, what a season, Joe.
- 1:04:20We got a lot of off season coming up, though.
- 1:04:22We were even going to list some of our ideas.
- 1:04:24But we'll just wait.
- 1:04:25We'll just wait.
- 1:04:25You guys will see.
- 1:04:26We'll just do them.
- 1:04:26Yeah, you'll see them.
- 1:04:27Yeah, we'll just do them.
- 1:04:28They'll come out.
- 1:04:29We probably won't do an episode every single week.
- 1:04:31But we'll come out occasionally with some fun little F1 tidbits.
- 1:04:35Maybe one before Christmas.
- 1:04:37Otherwise, right after Christmas,
- 1:04:38you'll see something come back out from us for fast laps.
- 1:04:41OK, why not both?
- 1:04:42Yeah, why not both?
- 1:04:43So we got plenty to talk about this off season.
- 1:04:46If not, maybe we'll even go into some history.
- 1:04:48You never know.
- 1:04:49We could do that.
- 1:04:50You never know.
- 1:04:50But Joe will have his tin foil hat for 2025.
- 1:04:53I will.
- 1:04:54I promise.
- 1:04:54Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:56In the flesh.
- 1:04:57No, in the foil.
- 1:04:58Ah, whatever.
- 1:04:59In the foil.
- 1:04:59In the foil.
- 1:05:00Anyway, with that, thanks, Joe, for being here all season.
- 1:05:03Thanks, Melty, for hosting, man.
- 1:05:05Dude, no, I appreciate it.
- 1:05:06I can't wait till 2025 to be honest with you.
- 1:05:09So much crazy stuff is going to happen in 2025.
- 1:05:12All those rookies.
- 1:05:13We'll get after it.
- 1:05:14We're getting fired up again.
- 1:05:15Here we go.
- 1:05:16Kev, of course, thanks for being here all season,
- 1:05:19getting everything done to make this happen.
- 1:05:21Thank you, viewers, for everything you guys do.
