- 0:00Speaker 1: Elena Wood. There we go, Elena Wood, Nightingale College.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Good morning, Good morning, how are you today?
- 0:08Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't have much energy. Oh no,
- 0:12Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 0:13Speaker 2: I think I'm here.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Then I don't know how to manage my energy. I
- 0:17Speaker 1: need some energy management here. Would you just would you
- 0:21Speaker 1: maybe just telling me how to shape up and fly right? Yeah?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Yeah, you guys? Straighten up?
- 0:27Speaker 1: Pal Yeah, tell me tell me come on, you mean
- 0:30Speaker 1: to me?
- 0:32Speaker 2: Oh, that's not my that's not my mL I come
- 0:35Speaker 2: in nice, that's how I play.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Okay, play nice? Then what do we need to do
- 0:39Speaker 1: to get energy? What do we need to do?
- 0:41Speaker 2: Yeah? So the first recommendation is to check in with
- 0:45Speaker 2: your different types of energy, And there's four primary our
- 0:50Speaker 2: physical energy, which is impacted by how we sleep, the
- 0:55Speaker 2: food we eat, how we move our bodies. We have
- 0:59Speaker 2: our mental energy, which is how how well we're able
- 1:03Speaker 2: to focus where we put our attention. Emotional energy, which
- 1:08Speaker 2: is our stress, our mood, our feelings of connection, and
- 1:13Speaker 2: of course our purpose, which is connected to our meaning
- 1:17Speaker 2: and our values. So if we're taking care of our body,
- 1:21Speaker 2: if we're taking care of how we focus and making
- 1:25Speaker 2: sure we're connected and aligned with our purpose, We're going
- 1:28Speaker 2: to have more energy.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Well, okay, if you say so, I know it sounds
- 1:34Speaker 1: so simple, right, yeah, but I'm more I know it's
- 1:38Speaker 1: just easy, easy, easy. So if I give up fried food,
- 1:41Speaker 1: If I give up fried food, I'll find the meaning
- 1:43Speaker 1: of life. Is that sort of where we're staying.
- 1:45Speaker 2: I mean, you just might if you eat more broccoli,
- 1:48Speaker 2: you're going to be more aligned. I can feel it,
- 1:50Speaker 2: all right.
- 1:51Speaker 1: So what is this now? Energy to task? What is that? Yes?
- 1:57Speaker 2: So the idea here is that you do your more intense,
- 2:02Speaker 2: your harder tasks at the times of day when you
- 2:05Speaker 2: have more energy. If you're a morning person, knock out
- 2:09Speaker 2: the really hard stuff first thing in the morning. If
- 2:12Speaker 2: you suffer from that two pm crash, like so many
- 2:16Speaker 2: of us do, I'm raising my hand, try and do
- 2:19Speaker 2: those easier tasks later in the day when your energy
- 2:22Speaker 2: is a little bit more drained.
- 2:24Speaker 1: I don't have the two I don't know. I don't
- 2:26Speaker 1: have that two pm crash. I have I have that
- 2:28Speaker 1: nine thirty in the morning crash. Well, I'm going to
- 2:30Speaker 1: be back.
- 2:30Speaker 2: On the air at two per earlier than mine.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Yeah, so, so but what do you so you cause
- 2:38Speaker 1: just if you're aware of these things you like, like
- 2:41Speaker 1: I should write the Utah Word of the dayte scripts
- 2:44Speaker 1: that I don't like doing, I should do those earlier
- 2:47Speaker 1: in the day.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, exactly, exactly, do that stuff that demands a
- 2:52Speaker 2: little bit more of you when you've got a little
- 2:54Speaker 2: bit more in your tank.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, and then what what do you mean? Take
- 2:58Speaker 1: real breaks, real.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Breaks, step away from your work and your screens and
- 3:06Speaker 2: do something that gives your brain and your body a
- 3:08Speaker 2: chance to really restore and focus your energy. You know
- 3:13Speaker 2: a lot of times, and I'm guilty of this for sure.
- 3:16Speaker 2: We eat lunch at our desk, we scroll our phones
- 3:20Speaker 2: while we're taking our ten minute break, whatever it might be.
- 3:23Speaker 2: So do your best to really break free from that
- 3:28Speaker 2: technology and the work while you're taking a break.
- 3:31Speaker 1: You have you so there are these apps and I
- 3:34Speaker 1: forget what it's called them, but you can you set
- 3:37Speaker 1: it so that you know you'll work for twenty five
- 3:40Speaker 1: minutes and then it gives you an alarm. Yeah here,
- 3:44Speaker 1: now take a five minute break, you know.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Yeah, those are a really great method to help you
- 3:50Speaker 2: kind of do some really intense work and then step away,
- 3:53Speaker 2: move your body a little bit, come back and be focused.
- 3:56Speaker 1: I think that app was called the cigarette cigarette break,
- 4:01Speaker 1: called Smoke them Up. A smoke breakap the one I've
- 4:04Speaker 1: heard of.
- 4:08Speaker 3: In that regard though obviously smoking not good for you,
- 4:11Speaker 3: but if you're if you're not a smoker, you should
- 4:14Speaker 3: follow that example and go outside and just spend five
- 4:17Speaker 3: minutes enjoy the fresh outdoor air.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Talk to the smokers. Yeah, they know everything. They have
- 4:22Speaker 1: a non smoke break.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Have a non smoke break. That's the advice.
- 4:27Speaker 1: All right, Now, let's see what is this. Reduce distractions.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Reduce distractions. This is both for while you're while you're working,
- 4:35Speaker 2: as well as while you're taking your breaks. A lot
- 4:37Speaker 2: of times our brain tries to jump between multiple tasks
- 4:41Speaker 2: and that is honestly really exhausting for our mental energy,
- 4:45Speaker 2: for our emotional energy. And so do your very best
- 4:49Speaker 2: to simply focus on one thing. See if you can
- 4:52Speaker 2: turn off notifications that kind of a thing.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Well, it's really hard in this office because we have cubicles,
- 5:00Speaker 1: and while I'm sitting there working there are people having
- 5:04Speaker 1: loud conversations around the very many different times of the day.
- 5:09Speaker 2: I wish we got to get you some noise canceling headsongs.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I should Uh, Okay, what else do we
- 5:17Speaker 1: have here? Oh? Last discovery recovery.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Yeah, the small recovery moments during your day. And this
- 5:25Speaker 2: is pretty similar to what we were talking about. That
- 5:28Speaker 2: kind of work for twenty five minutes and then take
- 5:30Speaker 2: a short recovery break. And this can be just walking
- 5:34Speaker 2: over to refill your water, maybe you stretch your body
- 5:37Speaker 2: a little bit, maybe you step outside or simply look
- 5:41Speaker 2: out the window. Just something to break up those chunks
- 5:45Speaker 2: of work.
- 5:45Speaker 1: I think I'm what I'm going to insist on is
- 5:47Speaker 1: that I have a medical gurney right next to my
- 5:51Speaker 1: next to my next to my cubicle. We could do
- 5:55Speaker 1: we could put that in the contract. Just lie down
- 5:57Speaker 1: on the gurney. Well, we'll wheel you outside for a
- 6:01Speaker 1: couple of minutes. What have That would be a good break?
- 6:06Speaker 1: I think, Well, Elena, those are those are really good
- 6:08Speaker 1: things that we should all read through those and be
- 6:11Speaker 1: it's and it's not really difficult. Just just do it.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's simple task for stores.
- 6:18Speaker 1: All right. Uh. If you want to find out more
- 6:20Speaker 1: what we what should we do?
- 6:22Speaker 2: You can learn more about this, as well as Nightingale's
- 6:25Speaker 2: amazing programs by visiting Nightingales Dot Edu.
- 6:28Speaker 1: All right right, thank you, thank you very much, thank you.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Take care.
